Basic Aspects Of Standards Research
Introduction
This paper will discuss various aspects of standards research. First, it will select one of the
working groups in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) or Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and thoroughly summarize what this group is working on. Next, this
paper will justify the need of the IEEE 802 standard used in networking. Also, it will evaluate the
three standard organizations including IEEE, ISO, and ANSI to determine the most important for
communication technology. Finally, this paper will describe the author s position on the need for a
Federal regulating body of standards such as NIST.

Clearly, the OPSAWG focuses on the operations side of the house, and would be the most logical
working group to submit a request for review of an operational guideline.
Specifically, the focus of this WG is on topics that manage the behavior of other working groups in
the O M area (e.g., manageability requirements). Equally important, it focuses on small, highly
focused projects that do not warrant a separate working group, or belong to ones that have already
concluded (e.g. advancement of documents on the standards track, application statements,
extensions of MIB modules). (Operations and management area working group, n.d., para 3).
IEEE 802
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) decided that there was a significant
need for a set of rules or standards for data to travel from one computer to another. Essentially, it
decided to standardize these methods for data packets transfers by implementing a set of rules and
regulations called IEEE 802 standards. Consequently, these standards help the industry by providing
advantages such as low product cost, interoperability, and easy to manage standards, divided into
many parts. Interestingly, these standard parts include everything from cabling to network
standards. Of note, these IEEE standards affect only Local Area Networks (LAN) and Metropolitan
Area Networks

Parental Isolation In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Letting problems fester can lead to a domino effect. Many of the problems that come from parental
abandonment and isolation from the world, are the inability to handle problems. In Frankenstein,
the monster is unable to handle situations the correct way, leading to him killing multiple people
throughout the book. The creature s only thoughts are to get revenge on his creator, and he feels
as if he only has two options of what to do with his life. ...if I cannot inspire love, I will cause fear;
(Frankenstein129). The monster goes around killing the people close to Victor just to exact
revenge on him. First the monster starts off by killing Victor s younger brother, William, in the
woods. The monster does have reasons to be angry at Victor, those being Victor abandoning him
and also destroying the wife that he was creating for him. His... Show more content on

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Group Project
In online courses, group projects have two (2) benefits: 1.Helping students connect with one
another, which helps counteract potential isolation 2.Providing the experience of working on
distributed teams, which an increasingly common requirement in the workforce Group projects in

Wind and Waves
WIND:
пЃЅWinds are caused by differences in air pressure.
пЃЅThey move from areas of high pressure to low pressure.
пЃЅDifferences in air pressure are caused by unequal heating of the atmosphere.
пЃЅCool air has higher air pressure so it flows underneath the warm, less dense air.
пЃЅWinds that blow over short distances and are caused by unequal heating of Earth s surface
within a small area.
Waves
пѓ Waves start in the open ocean
пѓ The size of a wave depends on the strength of the wind, the length of time that it blows, and the
distance over which it blows
пѓ Waves move energy, not water. The water in a wave does not actually move forward, just the
energy generated by the wind.
пѓ The wind affects the water at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

пѓ The cold, saltier water sinks and starts moving back towards the equator along the bottom of the
ocean.
пѓ When the water reaches the equator, it warms and rises again.
пѓ Deep currents flow slowly. They may take as long as 1,000 years to flow from pole to equator
and back again.
TIDES:
пѓ Tides are the daily rise and fall of Earth s waters on its coastlines
пѓ When water on the coast reaches its highest point it is high tide.
пѓ When water on the coast reaches its lowest point it is low tide.
пѓ Unlike surface waves, tides are regular and do not depend on wind. If not wind, then what
causes tides?
пѓ Tides are caused by the interaction between the Earth, the moon, and the sun.
пѓ The gravity exerted on Earth s oceans by the moon and the sun cause the water to move from
one side of the planet to the other side.
пѓ The moon is much closer to the Earth than the sun, so it exerts a greater gravitational effect on
the tides.
пѓ There are two high tides and two low tides about every 25 hours.
пѓ That means every six or so hours you have a high tide and then a bit
пѓ more than six hours later you have a low tide.

Usefulness and Reliability of Information Provided By...
An ongoing concern in financial reporting is the usefulness and reliability of information provided
by corporations. The financial accounting standard board defines usefulness as the information that
is useful for the users in decision making (FASB, 2011). Reliability is inferred when the information
is verified, objective, and can be relied on. Therefore, Statement of Financial Accounting Standards
No. 157 standardizes the valuationand disclosure of fair valuefor assets and liabilities in order to
achieve both usefulness and reliability. The reasoning for the hierarchy was due to the
inconsistency in previous definitions and guidance (FASB, 1992).
Introduction to Fair Value Hierarchy
To begin, SFAS defines fair value as the value... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
SFAS Relating to the Conceptual Framework
The framework for measuring fair value is easy to understand and follow, and relates to the
conceptual framework. As stated earlier the preferred measure of fair value is the market
approach, because the prices are observable. For this reason the standard recognizes the need for
relevant, reliable, and comparable information in order for users to make better decisions about the
current financial position of a company. Financial readers are aware of the valuing measurement
used to calculate the fair value, whether the measurement were derived from an observable or
unobservable input. The measurement establishes the existence of reliable and relevance
qualitative factors that make accounting information useful for decision making (Barbera, 2007).
If it were observable then the value derived can be researched and verified. However, if it were
unobservable then the user must read the disclosures which will be discussed later in the research
paper, and determine the reliability of the internally generated measurement. In return it can be
understood that the level 1 inputs are more reliable and relevant than the other two levels.
In addition, the fair value hierarchy also enhances the comparability and consistency of information
among companies due to following practices: all companies must

Why Did Gunsmith Shops Like Retail Shops
Gunsmith shops were not like retail shops today. Gunsmith shops were very small buildings
typically not on main streets of major towns. They usually built their shops out of stone because
it was fire resistance. They used gravel, flat stone, clay, or a mixture of these. They used this
because of its strong stainability to fire, and its long life span. The most basic shops had only two
rooms. One for metal working and one for wood working. The metal working room contained the
forge and the wood working room had many basic tools. Sometimes, their shops were located on
their personal property. As tensions arise between the colonists and the British, gunsmiths had to
work longer hours and they had to increase the amount of guns they made. In result, gunsmiths

Gunsmiths would use a boring bench to bore a hole in the guns barrel. This was a very precise
job because of the exact measurements for the barrel Gunsmiths also used a device similar to
the boring bench. They used a rifling bench its job was to cut a series of spiral groves into a
rifle. This made the bullet spin which would increase its accuracy. Gunsmiths also used a device
called a pan borer. Its purpose was to carve depressions in the pan of the firing mechanism.
Gunsmiths also used tools that people in other professions use. For example, saws, axes, drills and
bits, chisels, rasps, floats, and planes. Gunsmiths and blacksmiths both used very similar tools
because they both worked with metal. Some tools they both use include: anvils, hammers, vises,
clamps, tongs, files, shears, bellows, and the forge. Gunsmiths made the stocks out of wood

Lady Macbeth Character Analysis
Two scenes later, Shakespeare delves deeper into Lady Macbeth s character which adds another
perspective to the predicament Macbeth finds himself faced with. Lady Macbeth makes apparent,
to the audience, regarding her husband, that she has fear concerning thy nature , and that Macbethis
too full o th milk of human kindness . This suggests that Lady Macbeth fears that her husband is
incapable of producing what she deems necessary for him to gain the kingship. He possesses the
desire, but the ruthlessness required in order to secure kingship and usurp the throne, is
something that Lady Macbeth opts to take upon herself after minimal deliberation, which reveals
much about her and her husband, in terms of Lady Macbeth s dominance that would shock a
contemporary audience. The word milk is perhaps alluding to her belief that Macbeth doesn t
possess the strength of character that at the time was seemingly synonymous with masculinity.
The audience may well feel as though Lady Macbeth believes that Macbeth yearns for the
kingship, yet he will not be proactive in going about obtaining it by illegitimate means as she
labels him as too kind to take a leading role in an approach of that ilk. Shakespeare arguably here
raises a wider debate by using the play as a mouthpiece to voice his concerns regarding the twisted
society of the time in that kindness could be seen as something that would be detrimental to an
individual. Shakespeare also perhaps intends to voice concerns over

Mohandas Gandhi vs. Martin Luther King Jr.
Mohandas Gandhi vs. Martin Luther King Jr. People all over the world know that Mohandas
Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. did great things in their life times. But which one was more
effective during his time? The answer to this question is somewhat biased, usually depending on
your race, geographical location, and if you or someone you know has directly experienced the
effects of the actions of these men. An Indian would choose Mohandas Gandhi over Martin Luther
King Jr. without even thinking about it. African Americans are going to choose Martin Luther
King Jr. because he fought for their rights. Someone living in or near South Africa or India would
most likely choose Mohandas Gandhi as the more effective person, whereas a person near... Show

The petition was presented to the Assembly after only one month. This cause became obvious
that it wasn t only for the Indian s right to vote but for their survival as a community in Natal.
The majority of Indians had just stayed in South Africa after their time as slaves on plantations
or in mines ended. These men were about to have to pay a tax of twenty five pounds, an amount
they couldn t pay. Gandhi appealed to the Viceroy of India, the Colonial Secretary in London,
and to Naoroji, the Indian member of Parliament (Coolidge 44). He registered as an advocate
before Natal s Supreme Court, wrote articles, gave speeches, and even removed his turban while
the court was in session. Though he could not win voting privileges for immigrants from India, he
did retain the power to vote for those Indians already on the voting lists. Unfortunately, Gandhi s
hard work did not abolish the tax but he managed to get it reduced to three pounds, still only some
could pay this. More important than these two achievements was the Natal Indian Congress. This
was a permanent organization with an educational branch and it was available to the poor. Its wide
availability exposed the organization to the masses. After his accomplishments in South Africa
Gandhi returned to India. A pivotal moment in India s struggle for independence came on March
12, 1930. This two hundred mile, twenty four day walk was taken by seventy eight men and
women with Gandhi, 61 at the

John Stuart Mills Romanticism And Radicalism
John Stuart Mill was born in 1806 and was the eldest son of James Mill and Harriet Barrow.
James Mill taught John Greek at the age of three and Latin at age eight. By the age of 14, John
had read many Greek and Latin classics. He had studied world history, logic and mathematics and
had mastered the basics of economic theory, all of which was part of his father s plan to make John
Stuart Milla young advocate of the views of the philosophical radicals. By his late teens, Mill spent
many hours editing Jeremy Benthams manuscripts, and he threw himself into the work of the
philosophic radicals. John also founded a number of intellectual societies and began to contribute to
periodicals, including the Westminster Review, founded by Bentham and James Mill. In 1823, his
father secured him a junior position in the East India Company, and he, like his father before him,
rose in the ranks, eventually taking his father s position of chief examiner. In his twenties, John
Stuart Mill felt the influence of Historicism and Romanticism. This led him to begin searching for a
new philosophic radicalism that would be more sensitive to the limits on reform imposed by culture
and history and would emphasize the cultivation of our humanity, including the disposition of
feeling and imagination.
John Stuart Mill influenced the shape of nineteenth century greatly through British thought and
political discourse. James Mill, John Stuart Mill s father, and Jeremy Bentham led the Philosophic

Going back to chapter 1, millions of cats and dogs are euthanized a year and endure being stray.
These high numbers are mostly because of a big litter that was unplanned. Removing a pet s
reproductive organs is a great way to battle animal overpopulation. The price of spaying or
neutering has a range of about $45 $175. That is not too much relative to caring for a whole litter
of kittens or puppies. There are other great reasons to spay and neuter animals besides the fact that
it doesn t contribute to overpopulation. For instance, spaying helps prevent uterine infections and
breast cancer, which is fatal in about 50 percent of dogs and 90 percent of cats. (pets.webmd.com)

Trends in the Hospitality Industry
Nowadays trends are everywhere. You can find them in every industry and they play a huge role.
The retro trend in clothing, the SUV trend in the car industry, but nowhere else are trends more
important than in the hospitality industry. But what exactly is a trend? A trend describes usually
the time measurable course of a development into a certain quantitative and/or qualitative direction.
In economics, trends are changes of the behavior of the society. In marketing research this describes
the change and development of the consumerism and consumption behavior.

A lot of business travellers want to stay in well known hotels like Mariott or Hilton. Only 16%
want to stay in individual hotels. So for the industry it is important to have a very good
reputation. Of course the people try to get the best price for a room and most hotels have
company rates which are below the normal rack rate. Also important for a booking is the location
of the hotel and the bonus programs. For 26% of the guests Airline milage is important. So the
hotels have to work with airline companies and they want special conditons as well.
Because of the fast going world today the guests have no time to wait long for the check in or
check out procedures. They expect Express service. Also 68% want complimentary transportation
to the airport. The Opryland Hotel Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee, developed a system
to avoid long check in or check out times. You can check in or out via credit card. The system
checks the data and the credit range and the guest is checked in in seconds.

Comparing Max Bohm s Painting The Happy Mother And Child
Both the painting featured above have a common theme of Motherhood. They both picture a
smiling mother holding their child to their chest. The painting on the left is called The Happy

She even feels empowerment by hiding a box of small objects and memorabilia that she claims
are her secrets though they hold no real value and would not matter to anyone else either way.
When her play, The Tales of Arabella fails to succeed as she had anticipated, she feels as if she is
a failure and has no control, a concept she has not experienced before. As seen through her
mental depiction of Arabella and disappointment when Lola had assumed the role and had paled
in comparison to her standards, Briony suffers from an inability to grasp reality and maintains
exacerbated views of what things should be like and how she is fully capable of keeping things
are under control. This necessary sense for control extends past her dawn of her selfhood into
her adulthood and end of her life when she is still trying to make amends with Robbie and
Cecilia (295). Briony fails to separate herself from her fictional world and face reality or grasp
the fact that she would not be able to control and fix everything in what she feels is real life. She
loses her ambiance of innocence and develops feelings of adult emotion upon revelations
between Robbie and Cecilia (106). The first of these sightings being the two estranged lovers

Characteristics Of Secret Societies In The 18th Century
In the eighteenth century, Europe had the largest number of Secret Societies. There were three
trends that Secret Societies got something good out of: The Enlightenment (a philosophical
movement (Locke, Montesquieu and Voltaire) advocating human reasoning over obedience while
strengthening the reasons for Scientific thinking), Enlightened Despotism (where society of every
rank and status felt their values were threatened by the state. Freemasonrytherefore seemed very
appealing as it taught ways of conveying ancient wisdom and virtue), and The growth against the
reasoning of Rationalism and Enlightenment as well as the fascination for nature s secrets which
brings about a mystical, magical and even occult exaltation.
As secret societies is the topic at hand, i d like to start by speaking about secret societies before
continuing with the classification of secret societies for the purpose of developing the discussion.
Secrecy is defined as an exclusion of reciprocal knowledge by members of associations and the
concealment is premeditated. As having full knowledge of any information is trusting, the
complete absence means distrust. It is very natural for us to understand that what is forbidden is
permitted and for what is not permitted is forbidden. Secrecy is one of the greatest

Movie And Film Version Of To Kill A Mockingbird
The film version of To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), which stars Gregory Peck as Atticus and Mary
Badham as Scout, is as much a classic as the novel itself. (The film received eight Academy Awards
nominations and netted awards for Best Actor, Best Screenplay Based on Material from Another
Medium, and Best Art Direction Set Decoration, Black and White.)
Ideally, a novel and its film version complement each other, which, on many levels, is the case with
To Kill a Mockingbird. However, film can accomplish things that novels can t, and vice versa.
Likewise, film has limitations that a novel doesn t. This essay explores some of the differences
between To Kill a Mockingbird, the film and the novel.
Narration
By its nature, film is a visual medium, which makes a first person story difficult to tell. To have
Scout narrating throughout the film as she does in the book would prove distracting, so Scout as
narrator is only presented to set the mood of a scene in the film. As a result, viewers don t get a
strong sense of Scout s first person narration as they do in the book; instead, they simply notice the
childlike perspective portrayed in the story. (The film uses music to help reinforce the child s point
of view. The music is very elementary, and much of the score is composed of single notes without
chords or embellishments.)
Because the narration is not as straightforward in the film, the film seems to shift more to Jem s
experiences. For example, Jem finds all the articles in

The Importance Of Water Infrastructure Financing
Water Infrastructure Financing
Water and sewer utilities are faced with the task of ensuring water quality, addressing aging
infrastructure and meeting with innovations in the industry. There is an urgent need for capital
investment and infrastructure financing to address these issues. This requires hundreds of billions
of dollars and the active participation of both the policy makers and other stakeholders.
Water infrastructure financing comes from several sources, including federal, state, and local
sources, and also from private sectors. Various forms of financing exist including state revolving
funds (SRFs), non SRF state funds, private activity bonds (PABs) and Municipal Bonds
(Vedachalam Geddes 2017). Environmental Impact Bonds... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The method of trenchless pipe repair is cutting down on disruptive digging (Bonura 2002).
The use of pipe bursting to replace aging pipes was employed by the city of Austin, Texas,
thereby reducing cost and limiting environmental impacts. Some other cities are moving towards
newer technologies like city of Saginaw, Michigan which replaced all service water pipes with
C909 PVC pipes (Brzozowski 2016).
The corrosive resistant nature of these newer material gives it advantage over corrosive pipes that
are over the country as was highlighted in Flint, Michigan. Utilities are breaking away from the old
methods and using newer materials (Brzozowski 2016).
Water and sewer utilities all over the nation are adopting and upgrading to new technologies like the
smart water meters. These technologies provide real time information on consumption data,
monitor and detects leaks leading to quick and accurate pinpointing of leaks, and they are essential
tools in management of water resources. Studies utilizing smart water meters have shown that
information from the data can be used as management tool, determine water usage patterns, and
detection of leakages (Gurung et al 2014).
Deteriorating Water Quality
Ground and surface water are the main sources for water providers. Many of these nation s waters
are contaminated by pollutants. There are several federal and state regulations to address the issues
of pollution of the waterways by industrial and other sources.

Colorectal Cancer Increasing Risk Factors
To start, one already has an increased chance of getting cancer if one already has a history of
colorectal, ovarian, endometrial, or breast cancer. Thus, due to her family s history of getting
colorectal cancer, Ms. Wilson should have already been more wary of colorectal cancer. Although
her race is not mentioned, the following races have highest occurring colon cancerrates from highest
to lowest: Black, White, Asian/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan natives, and then
Hispanic. With the specificity of sex, women are less likely than men to contract colorectal cancer,
but do so at roughly the same incidence. In addition, being 61 years old gave her a 0.92%
chance of developing colorectal cancer after 10 years, 2.37% after 20 years, and 3.76 after 30
years [5]. In regards to environmental factors, colon cancer shares many similarities with other
forms of cancer. For example, some environmental factors for colorectal cancer are diet, tobacco,
and lack of exercise.
In addition, there are several polyposis disorders, colorectal cancers that are passed on via errors or
mutations within the genetic code, that can also contribute to the development of colorectal cancer.
Examples of polyposis disorders are familial adenomatous polyposis, turcot syndrome, attenuated
familial adenomatous polyposis, and hyperplastic polyposis syndrome. On the other hand, non

Liberty | Definition of Liberty by Merriam Webster, n.d.) We as Americans have come to know
liberty since the colonies broke away from England on July 4, 1776 and the Declaration of
Independence was issued. (Morone, 2016, p.10) Liberty along with freedom is one of our
expected rights as an American citizen. Liberty can be viewed as either negative or positive.
Negative liberty is, freedom from constraints or the interference of others (Morone, 2016, p.11).
Most Libertarians agree with Negative liberty and feel that the government should not be in
control. A Libertarian is a group of people who believe in minimal government: specifically, that
public officials only role should be defending borders, prosecuting crime, and protecting private
property (Morone, 2016, p. 12). I think that negative liberty means that although we should help
others in our community, state or country we should not be forced to do so by the government.
We should not feel responsible to help out others when they are not doing anything to better
themselves. The government cannot put limits on one s own actions or desires. I believe the
Affordable Care Act was a violation of Negative liberty. American citizens were forced to
purchase a healthcare insurance plan for them and their families. If you did not enroll you would
be penalized when filing income tax. The fine for not being insured in 2016 ranged from

The Existence of ADD and ADHD Essay
The Existence of ADD and ADHD
Some of the most common words moving around in the psychiatric circle are attention Deficit;
hyperactivity; Ritalin; ADD, ADHD. These words are being most commonly discussed by most
educators, physicians, psychologists and young parents in the society today. In spite of extensive
advancements in technology which has brought new insights into the brain and learning, there is
still a lacuna in the field of problems faced by children who are unable to remain focused on the
task given to them in the classroom owing to their inability to pay attention.

The most common behavioral indications are that of distractibility or very low attention span to a
particular task; impulsivity or in some cases hyperactivity which are shown through excessive
activity as well as physical restlessness.
According to the 1994 Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition (DSM
IV) of the American Psychiatric Association, the primary behaviors symptomatic of ADHD include
persistent difficulty sustaining attention and concentration, inappropriate activity levels,
impulsivity and distractibility.
Those suffering from ADHD exhibited over a period of six months, six of nine behavior patterns
indicative of problems sustaining attention, organizing around tasks, remembering and completing
assignments or six of nine behaviors indicative of difficulties sitting still, being quiet and waiting
patiently before responding. [Divoky, Schrag. 1975]. These behaviors appear in at least two
different settings (such as at home, in school, in peer group activity), and are usually present in
children before the age of 7, and is considered disruptive to normal function.

Texas Government Reflection
I really enjoyed and learned new things about the Texas government. This class was not a usual
class for me, usually I take in class sessions, so it was little challenging for me the way I learn
things. Through this class I understand my weakness and strong side of my learning style and the
good and bad of my style. The online session taught me how I can learn by myself, manage the
time and get a good grade. Usually I just read over the notes and study the material for the tests,
but for this class I have to create my own notes and understand what does it mean. All of the
assignments especially the focus free writing, helped me to understand about the Texas government
and how does it works. The reading assignments were so interesting, usually

The Democratic Party Of The Republican Party
Convention Speeches
America is considered as a global superpower, and has a critical role to play in the global
socioeconomic and political landscape. Critical examination of US presidential elections show that
they draw widespread attention from across the globe. In many instances, the major political parties
differ significantly on policies, a prospect that may work to the advantage or the disadvantage of
the candidate for Democratic Party of the Republican Party. After months of the long bruising
primaries, the GOP conducted its convention in Cleveland while the democratic sect held their

3). Trump further pointed out that large fractions of the US annual budgets are set aside to finance
the international economic obligations of the country. As such, the Republicans pointed out that
cutting such parts of the budget would help to boost the American economy and to reduce budget
deficits.
Further, the sect outlined that the allies of America will have to pay if the country is to offer
military assistance and other services. Through this strategic approach, the republicans equally
believed that returning American troops home and abandoning international missions would help
save revenues that, in their view, are wasted on programs that do not directly benefit the American
people. Ideally, the Republicans exhibited belief that continued involvement of America in
international aids and assistive missions would affect the economy negatively, and would make
America vulnerable in the global market (Smith 3). On debt, Donald Trump recounted his
experience as a business mogul to be a value that will help him overcome the economic barriers and
ensure that the country does not accumulate debts.
Another fundamental subject that was explored in the Republican convention was trade between
America and the international community. The Republican Party noted that America was getting
raw deals in many instances. They cited the case of trade between America and china in which the

The J Curve
Kelsey Wright History 201 A. Scotti Test One Essay The colonies during the time of early
America experienced many hardships from the British, and at multiple times were let down from
what they estimated they were deserving of. The J curve is known as a diagram indicating the
climbing up and the sudden down of any idea, or action. The J curve is an accurate representation
of the colonist s expectations at the time of the oppressive British. The J curve seems to center
around two main points for the colonists. The first was the wars they fought, the outcomes, and the
government and the economy. The second was the legislatures that were designed by or against the
colonies. The expectations of the colonists in relation to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The J curve may also be referred to when dealing with the legislatures that existed during those
times. The legislatures were both those that were forced upon the colonists and those that were
created by the colonists. The legislatures dealt with both political and religious ruling. When the
colonies were just beginning there were two reforms set up in 1619. The first was called the
head right system. The head right system stated that if one could pay their own way to get to
the Americas then that person would receive fifty acres of land per head of household. The
people were expected to stay at least three years so that they could approve upon the land that
was given to them. In those days land was power and so those who held it also held speaking
rights in the meeting and assemblies that were held in each town. Most people however were
unable to pay their own way and so went to the new land as indentured servants. They would
work off their debt over the next few years and become free people, some even coming to own
their own land as well. The second reform was called the House of Burgesses. This was the first
representative assembly in the colonies and was called a little Parliament . The true Parliament
however in England gave little to no credit to the assemblies that the colonists created on their own.

The Historical Existence Of Jesus Essay
Introduction
Some scholars argue that evidence of Jesus of Nazareth s existence can only be found within the
writings of the New Testament. They believe that the New Testament is a biased and unreliable
source for the existence of Jesus. They therefore claim that Jesus did not exist. The historical
existence of Jesus is necessary to demonstrate the truth of Christianity. While Christian scholars do
not discount the reliability of the New Testament as a historical document, they are also able to
point to other historical documents and consider non Christian writings which support the existence
of Jesus. In this paper I will argue that Jesus the Nazarene was an actual, historical person and that
this can be demonstrated through extra Biblical resources.
Tacitus
Tacitus, perhaps the greatest Roman historian, provides us with an account of the fire of Rome.1 It
is within this account, recorded in The Annals, that Tacitus mentions Jesus. In chapters 38 through
45 of Annals 15, Tacitus discusses how Nero implicated Christians as those responsible for the fire.
But neither human resourcefulness nor the emperor s largesse nor appeasement of the gods could
stop belief in the nasty rumor that an order had been given for the fire. To dispel the gossip Nero
therefore found culprits on whom he inflicted the most exotic punishments. These were people
hated for their shameful offences whom the common people called Christians. The man who gave
them their name, Christus, had been executed

Through the application of his work, Norman Borlaug has saved hundreds of millions of lives
from starvation, more lives than any other person in history (Heam). The results of the

manage a sustainable transition from poverty without increasing agricultural productivity as
well as production (Heam). His work directly led to the entrance of less developed countries into
the global market, evident in his work in Mexico, India, and China, and this work fueled
research for the development of other GMOs that directly provided people in developing

in implementing genetically modified crops into starving regions. This implementation of his
work in developing regions allowed for a sustainable food source, reducing competition for food.
Providing a sustainable food source also allowed for the decrease in the average family size,
since families in developing regions no longer needed to have a large family to maintain fields.
This also allowed many countries to move away from subsistence farming, limiting the number of
people required to feed growing countries. As Norman Borlaug once said It was impossible to build

Police Enforcement And The Law Enforcement
What is law enforcement? The term has different meanings for individuals in our society based on
personal experiences. Law enforcement officers are members of society that come together in an
organized fashion and enforce the law. Law enforcement officers enforce the law by deterring,
punishing individuals and rehabilitating them. Law enforcement officers have been a part of our
society since the beginning of our democracy. Law enforcement officers are public servants to the
public to maintain peace in our society. Is this the case? In recent years, individuals have felt how
law enforcement agencies treat minorities. With the on growing population of minorities in the
United States, communities are becoming more diverse in policeagencies. Should police agencies
be a representation of the communities they serve? When individuals picture a law enforcement
officer they tend to get the image of a white male officer. Individuals hardly or do not see
minority, gender officers in police agencies. In our history, law enforcement officer have always
been one certain race and individuals have accepted this way of order up until recent years.
Many minorities or genders do not apply to police agencies for several factors or barriers it brings
to them. Several factors that play a role in the diversity in police agencies are communities, fear,
barriers within the agencies (promotions, work environment), and culture of our society. Society
has made the image of law enforcement look bad,

Examples Of Andy In Shawshank Redemption
An individual s personality or persona is created through a combination of events a person
would receive from society, and how the individual absorbs these events gives the bases for that
individual to develop hishers persona. In the novella, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank
Redemption, Stephen King uses the character Andrew Dufresne to demonstrate the influence
society has on the development of a person s persona or identity. When change of social
environment occurs to an individual, it is natural reaction for the individual to climb the social
chain, so that they may find contentment. The first time Andy talks with Red, and Andy is still
new and is faced with the drastic change in environment and the way of communication being
less formal, thus making Andy look more of a snob to other inmates at Shawshank, an Red s
thoughts Andy had a reputation for being a [snob] and a [cold fish]. (King 20). The words cold
fish and snob are used to clearly describe how the character Andy is seen by others, is used by
King to present the readers a starting point for which the character Andy can build up from and
develop a new persona. Once an individual finds their place in the new environment, society molds
the individual into a working part of the social chain. The day Andy, Red, and a couple of others
were working on the top of a roof, and Andy overheard one of the guards talking about the fortune
he had made, but complaining about the income taxes. Andy agrees with the guard, that

John Wilkes Booth Was The Actor Of His Life
John Wilkes Booth was known as one of the greatest actors of his time, who decided to abandon
his career to kill the president. Booth s life was very complicated; it led him to make wrong

Bel Air, Maryland, he lived from 1838 to 1865. He won acclaim as a contemporary
Shakespearean actor in the 1850 s and 60 s ( John ). People admired his talent; however his life
was much more complicated than that. The mid nineteenth century was also the time period of the

For example, the South hated the slave line established during the Missouri Compromise, and
abolitionists were hated by southerners. Booth was deeply committed to the South, and he had
little patience for abolitionists (Otfinoski 15). This commitment eventually lead him to join the
militia. As Booth wrote of a abolitionist who was hung by the Confederacy, I saw John Brown
hung, he later wrote, . . . and while I live, I shall think with joy upon the day when I saw the sun

Booth was a man who had a hard time making up his mind, so he made a crucial mistake when he
joined the militia. Soon after John Brown s execution, he realized his feelings for him were
confused, and he quit the militia. He didn t quit because he stood for Brown s abolitionist views,
but because he admired Brown s determination to stand for something until his death. And that was
exactly what Booth intended to do, Despite his intense focus on his successful acting career, Booth
never lost his passion for the southern cause (Otfinoski 30). Booth made a vital mistake when he
joined the militia, because the Civil War and southern pride only sparked more of his persistent

Definition Of Globalisation
The term globalisation describes the process of becoming worldwide in scope or application, and
the increasing interdependency of nation sates. At least that gives us one loose definition for
globalisation, but as Scholte (2000) realises, globalisation is a thoroughly contested subject, with
arguments extend across the issue of definition as well as measurement, chronology, explanation
and normative judgement. In fact, Scholte identifies five contrasting definitions for the word
globalisation as used by a number of the subject s commentators and critics internationalisation,
liberalisation, universalisation, western/modernisation and deterrioralisation are (2000: 13). In
choosing a definition of globalisation, one is also selecting how they wish to interpret it, and
what points they wish to convey. For example, the choice of western/modernisation leads to a
view that globlisation sees the economically and politically powerful west globalising the rest of
the world, whilst universalisation leads to a more neutral stance, taking it s root from the
dictionary definition of the word gloalise , meaning to universalise. To judge whether or not
globalisation is a myth or fact therefore requires the full understanding of what the term means to
it s critics and advocates, and in which ways they belive it to be myth of fact. Giddens simplifies
the debate into two main schools the sceptics and the radicals. A radical himself, he writes that

Analysis Of The Goophered Grapevine By Charles Chesnutte
Charles Chesnutt s Writings for Social and Political Change Charles Chesnutt was a well known
African American author who was known for his short stories that conveyed racist African
American dialect and conveyed his wishes for equality and social and political change for African
Americans. The purpose of this paper is to delve into Chesnutt s short storyThe Goophered
Grapevine to define the way Chesnutt manipulated his audience and worked towards white
sympathy for the black community. Chesnutt knew that if he attempted his goal with his white
audience s knowledge, they would resist and he would therefore be unsuccessful. Therefore,
Chesnutt needed to disguise the motive of the story so he could affect his audience without their
knowledge of his manipulation. Chesnutt did so through the use of storytelling with three
characters that served to show the three sides of the racial divide. Through the use of storytelling,
Chesnutt used the three main characters in The Goophered Grapevine as a whole to represent and
show the different sides of the racial divide and manipulate his audience into sympathizing with the
black society in order for social and political change; Uncle Julius functioned as the storyteller as
well as the black society, John functioned as the white side of the community who resisted change,
and Annie functioned as the side of the white community that sympathized with the black
community and sought political and social change for the black community.

When it first touches the ground, fresh, pure, unaffected, it s like a lovely white blanket that

The links between nutmeg and madness, or rather the symptoms of being in an altered physical and

When Fantine gave birth to Cossette she was unable to support her and herself, so she was
forced to have Cossette live with the Thenardiers. What is the history of Fantine? Is it society
buying a slave...? (67). However, even that was not enough, as the Thenardiers made her pay for
Cossettes medicine. All of this forced Fantine into prostitution, and overall made her very ill, as
she was constantly worrying about Cossette. During this time, Jean Valjean, known as Monsieur
Madeleine was able to help Fantine. Right after these events, Fantine died, but during this short
time she was out of poverty. Life and social order have spoken their last word to her. (67).
Without Jean, she would have died ill, and alone, but because of Jean she died happily. Therefore

The First World War Was A Time Of Huge Change For Technology
The first world war was a time of huge change for technologies and many innovations were made.
The first of the three I will write about is the change of machine guns and how useful and
significant they were in the first world war.
On the one hand, machine guns could be said to be significant because of the extra fire power they
provided on a battlefield. It has been estimated that a machine gun creates the equivalent to
anywhere between 60 to 100 rifles, depending on the source, in from one weapon. This gave an
army defending a position a huge advantage over the attacking side and almost certainly
prolonged the stalemate as breaking enemy lines became so difficult as reaching the enemy
trench was a near impossible thing to do with the machine gun firing at the attacking men. It has
been estimated that around 20% of the casualties of world war 1 were caused by the machine
gun. and This figure is very high considering all the possible causes of death in the battlefields of
WW1. What also made the machine gun of the first world war significant was how it affected
the future. These early models were the basis of a weapon used in all places of the world ever
since these first guns were used in the before and mainly during the first world war. The first
world war was the period that caused the potential of the machine gun to be recognised. Germany
saw the machine gun for the potential it held before the war and had far more of them. This
proved to be a big advantage for the

Media Carts Add to Customer Satisfaction Kudler Fine Foods uses a loyalty program which, as it
currently stands, serves to increase the consumer purchase cycle as a means to increase the loyalty
and profitability of its consumers, (p. 1, University of Phoenix, 2007); management is proposing
the implementation of a new multi media shopping cart that will appeal to the high end clientele as
well as track more customerdata and improve sales. The Media cart gathers key information that will
enable the marketingdepartment to customize better the shopping experience, making use of in
store advertising, and collect data related to consumer activity (Media Cart, 2010). Although the

Return on Investment for Media Carts As mentioned in this report, the return on investment is
not immediate but there are long term advantages to using the Media Cart. The advertising and
suggestions made to the consumer can cater to reducing excess inventory before spoilage
occurs, improving the effectiveness of sales, and introduce consumers to brands which may
interest him or her; these directives can increase sales and decrease loss. The on board
navigation system will help customers to find the products they are seeking; this allows the
customer to find products without taking time from the customer service employees. Use of the
navigation system also allows customer to find what products they are looking for; if they find
the product at Kudler they are less likely to go to another store and give the sale to a competitor.
Long term, the cart also can be part of an expedited check out system that decreases congestion
during the check out process (Media Cart, 2010). Consumers scan items as they put them into their
carts and directly into bags. At the end of their shopping experience, they move the cart onto the
scale to check for accuracy and for additional items, before they pay and leave; this process could
save money by reducing customer service personnel. The customer saves time through the use of
the built in navigation system, the system directs the customer through the store to the correct
location of the product he or she is

Case Is Foss V. Harbottle
Q2
Foss v. Harbottle
In September 1835, Victoria Park Company was set up to establish a residential area to the east
of Wilmslow Road, an estate of substantial houses in spacious grounds. The prosperous business
and professional families could live there. Richard Foss and Edward Starkie were two minority
shareholders, and claimed that the property of the company had been misapplied and various
mortgages were given improperly over the company s property. During the general meeting, they
said that no action should be taken against them. At last, the Court dismissed and rejected the
two shareholders claim, and held that a breach of duty by the directors of the company was a
wrong done to the company for which it alone could sue. The first reason is because of the
proper plaintiff rule is that a wrong done to the company may be vindicated by the company alone
where the corporation has separate legal entity. The second reason is the majority rule principle , it
states that if the alleged wrong can be confirmed or ratified by a simple majority of members in a
general meeting, then the court will not interfere, cadit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, as an ultra vires act is not void vis Г vis a third party [Section 25(1) CA 1965], the

is effectively defunct. Any one of the member may ask a court to restrain it from doing something
that is ultra vires, in the sense of being beyond the company s restricted object, Simpson v

As I Lay Dying By William Faulkner Essay
As I Lay Dying Final Essay
In the novel As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, relates to what seems to be the main concern and
topic throughout the story, which is the death of Addie Bundren. The long and strange journey to
Jefferson County, Mississippi to bury their mothers body seems to undertake the family together.
Faulkners technique throughout his story presents individual sections of the characters throughout
their thoughts, perspectives or the events taking place throughout the novel. You can see all the
family members and characters have different characteristics of their identity. This idea can be seen
as grotesque and the death of their mother inspires several questions about the character s existence
and identity and they all seem to encounter the death of their mother uniquely.
Each member of the family has a difficult time understanding death and react to it differently.
Throughout the Bundren s experience, we see that Varadman is obsessing over a fish he caught
shortly after his mother s death. Vardaman, who is the youngest does not yet seem to understand
or grieve with the concept of death. As he says, I can feel where the fish was in the dust. It is cut
up into pieces or not fish now, not blood on my hands and overalls. Then it wasn t so. It hadn t
happened then. And now she is getting so far ahead I can t catch her (Faulkner 32). This statement
shows how Vardaman sees Addie in his fish because like the fish, it represents his mother being

old French prison. The V (Viet Cong) referred to it as Hoa Loa meaning Hell Hole. He was later
moved from Hoa Loa and into a place called the ZOO, a more comfortable and welcoming camp

describing his tribulations at the Hanoi Hilton and is summed up at the end of the book talking
about his return home and his hopes for the future including finding a new wife because his
current wife had divorced him after his 5th year of captivity. While reading this book you actually
get to feel what the pilot s feeling and the pain from the tortures are quite evident and during the
story about the tourniquet torture I almost lost feeling in my arms, that is how strong the
descriptions were. This book had no index but the table of contents was very thorough and one

What Is The Ruination Of Women In The 21st Century
There once stood a haven on the corner of East 63rd Street and Lexington Avenue in New York
City. The Barbizon Hotel For Women offered a port in the storm for aspiring actresses, models
and female professionals who came to New York, to pursue their dreams of fame and fortune. New
York City was a mecca for dreamers in the 1900s, and the renowned Barbizon assured
impressionable ingenues shelter and protection from the sinister side of the cityand its citizens.
In spite of New York s iconic image as a world class city, the road to fame in the Big Apple was
fraught with danger; this was especially true for young women who were away from home for the

Determining Primortem Trauma in Forsic Pathology and...
There are many factors involved in the determination of perimortem trauma time in both forensic
pathology and forensic anthropology. This is critical information when it comes to legal issues or
the interpretation of prehistoric bone fractures. There is an extensive difference in fracture
properties that depend both on the time that has passed since death, and the type of environment
where the specimen has been exposed after death. A study was performed by Luis Coelho and Hugo
F.V. Cardoso, the purpose of this study was to determine the effects of different environments and
the time of exposure in the environment on bone fracturepatterns. They are taking a Forensic
anthropological approach in which bonetissue quality (whether the bone is dry(postmortem) or
fresh (perimortem)), is used, instead of using time intervals relative to the tume of death. The
Fractured Freshness Index, which combines fractureangle, fracture surface, and fracture outline as
criteria to determine the time of bone fracture, was used along with postmortem interval. Fresh
limbs from pig and goat were exposed to three different environments. Seven sets of ten
segments of the limbs were either buried, submerged, or left on ground surface. Five segments
were pig and five were goat. Each sets were buried within twenty eight days of the previous. The
postmortem intervals were 28, 56, 84, 112, 140, 168, and 196 days. The first set was buried for 196
days and the last set was buried for 28

Muckrakers In The 1920 s
Muckrakers According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary a muckraker is someone who searches
out and publicly exposes real or apparent misconduct of a prominent individual or business (
Muckraker ). During the 1890s to the 1920s, muckrakers were a group of American journalists who
exposed the corruption in society and informed the public about important social issues. The term
muckrakeroriginally came around when President Roosevelt gave a speech about reporters who
exposed political and corporate corruption ( Who Are the Muckrakers? ). There have been so
many muckrakers in American history whose works have been the cause of new laws and changes;
some of the most important and famous of these muckrakers were Upton Sinclair, Samuel Hopkins
Adams, and Jacob Riis. The first of the muckrakers to be discussed is Jacob Riis. Riis was born and
raised in Denmark, but moved to New York when he was twenty one years old. He grew up in
an impoverished household with fourteen other siblings; therefore, he understood the struggle
of the needy that lived in New York ( Jacob Riis Muckraker ). In 1888, Riis was given a job with
the New York Evening Sun as a photojournalist ( Jacob Riis ). His pictures primarily portrayed the
awful living conditions of those who lived in New York s Lower East Side ( Jacob Riis Muckraker
). In 1889, Riis became a police reporter, which exposed him to the horrid living conditions. After
seeing what really went on in parts of his new hometown, he decided

Tylor s Conception Of Religion
In our society, religion is commonly held as a matter of belief. The religious believe, atheists do not
believe and agnostics are unsure what they believe. Is this way of conceptualises religion consistent
across religions, through cultures? And through time and space? Anthropologists have disagreed
about how to conceptualise religionsince the founding of the discipline. Early accounts of religion
tend to centre on belief as being the most fundamental activity and characteristic of religion.
Twentieth century anthropologists, most notably Clifford Geertz, distanced themselves from the
evolutionist tendencies of earlier writers but continued to hold belief up as central to understanding
religion. However, many anthropologists have argued that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He argues that diverse pssibilbeies and power dyanamics that are placed under the label of
religion must be explained as products of historically distinctive disciplines and forces, not as
the result of superimposed systems of belief, ritual, political power and other elements . Like
Ruel before him, Assad argues that the bias towards belief as a verbalizable inner condition for
true religion comes from the Christian Church. Assad argues that what Geertz and other call the
religion , in a universal sense, is closely connected to Modernity in Europe and the subsequent
spread of this modernity to other parts of the world. Geertz s notion of religious belief, which is
central to his account of religion, is a modern privatised Christian one because it prioritises belief
as a physiological process rather than as something embodied in practice. His analysis marks a
shift away from a symbolic approach to a poststructuralist one which is less concerned with
interpreting symbols and more focused on power and discipline and the way in which religious
subjects are

Making Yeast Doughs
There are four basic ingredients used in making yeast doughs flour, water, yeast and salt. Lean
doughs contain these four, with or without addition of little sugar or fat. So how come there are
so many kinds of different breads: crunchy baguette, chewy bagel, soft rolls...? Proper
manipulation of these same ingredients can result with large variety of breads. If you add some
more fat, sugar and eggs to this mixture, you will make enriched yeast dough. Making Yeast
Doughs There are nine basic steps in making yeast dough: 1.Scaling the Ingredients It is important
to measure ingredients accurately and it is preferable to have them at the proper temperature. All
ingredients combined and well kneaded should reach 25ВєC. The amount of flour may vary
depending on the humidity level and the amount of protein in the flour. Flour with more protein
will absorb more water. 2.Mixing and Kneading the Dough The yeast dough must be kneaded
properly so the ingredients are combined uniformly and the gluten is developed. There are several
methods of mixing the yeast dough. Straight Dough Method is the simplest and the most common
method of mixing yeast dough. Yeast is firs dissolved in water, and then it is added to flour and
salt mixture. After that dough id kneaded until smooth and elastic. Sponge Method has two stages.
First yeast, liquid and half of flour is mixed to make a thick batter sponge (Fr. poolisch). The
sponge is then left to rise until doubled in size. After that

The Iditarod ...would violate animal cruelty laws...in 38 states and the District of Columbia. Of
course, Alaska has no such law ( Dogsled Racing ). The Iditarod is a race in which dogs are
forced to run over 1000 miles from Anchorage to Nome within a period of eight to sixteen days.
This distance is equivalent to the distance between NYC and Miami. The race began in 1973,
and since then, over 140 dogs have died (Molidor). This number does not include the dogs who
have died after the race or in the kennels because this information is not released. Sporting events
like the Iditarod are abusive to dogs in the name of entertainment and need to be discontinued or
seriously reformed. To understand how the Iditarod originated, we have to step back in time. The
Iditarod was founded by Joe Redington for two reasons. The first was to keep the tradition of sled
dogs alive because snowmobiles were becoming a more popular form of transportation in Alaska.
The second reason was to protect the historic Iditarod Trail. The... Show more content on

Descriptive Essay About Tourism
The modern day nomad is any person who has to ask themselves where their travel begins and
where they end and what exactly counts as the whole soul searching shebang. The thing about those
collectors of cool things is that their routine is the lack of one. If that s so, what happens when they
come into a highly structured environment that is very direct and singular? I m talking about what
happens when they go camping, specifically in the bush of Botswana, largely because that s where a
gang of merry international students and I recently found ourselves.
The first event, before the whole camping ordeal, is the packing. The reconsideration of
possessions started the process before I even left the hotel room. While I could probably find
sneaky ways to get all of my possessions into the campground, the people I look up to then not to
bring everything and the kitchen sink with them. Sinks do become less useful without running
water, as do a lot of things we drag around with us. Do I really need five books, three devices, 20
pairs of socks, and a sore back to enjoy myself? Me and many others come to the answer of no,
and some take it a step further and decide that for this trip, they will become a minimalist like no
other. This has never turned out so picture perfect for m, but it does represent the start of
sacrificing comfort in the hope of gaining something from the lack of it.
Often people tell me that they have got one big grand reason that they camp: they want to get

  • 2. Basic Aspects Of Standards Research Introduction This paper will discuss various aspects of standards research. First, it will select one of the working groups in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) or Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and thoroughly summarize what this group is working on. Next, this paper will justify the need of the IEEE 802 standard used in networking. Also, it will evaluate the three standard organizations including IEEE, ISO, and ANSI to determine the most important for communication technology. Finally, this paper will describe the author s position on the need for a Federal regulating body of standards such as NIST. Clearly, the OPSAWG focuses on the operations side of the house, and would be the most logical working group to submit a request for review of an operational guideline. Specifically, the focus of this WG is on topics that manage the behavior of other working groups in the O M area (e.g., manageability requirements). Equally important, it focuses on small, highly focused projects that do not warrant a separate working group, or belong to ones that have already concluded (e.g. advancement of documents on the standards track, application statements, extensions of MIB modules). (Operations and management area working group, n.d., para 3). IEEE 802 The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) decided that there was a significant need for a set of rules or standards for data to travel from one computer to another. Essentially, it decided to standardize these methods for data packets transfers by implementing a set of rules and regulations called IEEE 802 standards. Consequently, these standards help the industry by providing advantages such as low product cost, interoperability, and easy to manage standards, divided into many parts. Interestingly, these standard parts include everything from cabling to network standards. Of note, these IEEE standards affect only Local Area Networks (LAN) and Metropolitan Area Networks ... Wind and Waves WIND: пЃЅWinds are caused by differences in air pressure. пЃЅThey move from areas of high pressure to low pressure. пЃЅDifferences in air pressure are caused by unequal heating of the atmosphere. пЃЅCool air has higher air pressure so it flows underneath the warm, less dense air. пЃЅWinds that blow over short distances and are caused by unequal heating of Earth s surface within a small area. Waves пѓ Waves start in the open ocean пѓ The size of a wave depends on the strength of the wind, the length of time that it blows, and the distance over which it blows пѓ Waves move energy, not water. (Page 384) пѓ The cold, saltier water sinks and starts moving back towards the equator along the bottom of the ocean. пѓ When the water reaches the equator, it warms and rises again. пѓ Deep currents flow slowly. They may take as long as 1,000 years to flow from pole to equator and back again. TIDES: пѓ Tides are the daily rise and fall of Earth s waters on its coastlines пѓ When water on the coast reaches its highest point it is high tide. пѓ When water on the coast reaches its lowest point it is low tide. пѓ Unlike surface waves, tides are regular and do not depend on wind. If not wind, then what causes tides? пѓ Tides are caused by the interaction between the Earth, the moon, and the sun. пѓ The gravity exerted on Earth s oceans by the moon and the sun cause the water to move from one side of the planet to the other side. пѓ The moon is much closer to the Earth than the sun, so it exerts a greater gravitational effect on the tides. пѓ There are two high tides and two low tides about every 25 hours. пѓ That means every six or so hours you have a high tide and then a bit пѓ more than six hours later you have a low tide. пѓ Changes in the positions of Earth, the moon, and the sun affect the пѓ heights of tides during a ... • 6. Usefulness and Reliability of Information Provided By... An ongoing concern in financial reporting is the usefulness and reliability of information provided by corporations. The financial accounting standard board defines usefulness as the information that is useful for the users in decision making (FASB, 2011). Reliability is inferred when the information is verified, objective, and can be relied on. Therefore, Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 157 standardizes the valuationand disclosure of fair valuefor assets and liabilities in order to achieve both usefulness and reliability. The reasoning for the hierarchy was due to the inconsistency in previous definitions and guidance (FASB, 1992). Introduction to Fair Value Hierarchy To begin, SFAS defines fair value as the value... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... SFAS Relating to the Conceptual Framework The framework for measuring fair value is easy to understand and follow, and relates to the conceptual framework. As stated earlier the preferred measure of fair value is the market approach, because the prices are observable. For this reason the standard recognizes the need for relevant, reliable, and comparable information in order for users to make better decisions about the current financial position of a company. Financial readers are aware of the valuing measurement used to calculate the fair value, whether the measurement were derived from an observable or unobservable input. The measurement establishes the existence of reliable and relevance qualitative factors that make accounting information useful for decision making (Barbera, 2007). If it were observable then the value derived can be researched and verified. However, if it were unobservable then the user must read the disclosures which will be discussed later in the research paper, and determine the reliability of the internally generated measurement. In return it can be understood that the level 1 inputs are more reliable and relevant than the other two levels. In addition, the fair value hierarchy also enhances the comparability and consistency of information among companies due to following practices: all companies must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Why Did Gunsmith Shops Like Retail Shops Gunsmith shops were not like retail shops today. Gunsmith shops were very small buildings typically not on main streets of major towns. They usually built their shops out of stone because it was fire resistance. They used gravel, flat stone, clay, or a mixture of these. They used this because of its strong stainability to fire, and its long life span. The most basic shops had only two rooms. One for metal working and one for wood working. The metal working room contained the forge and the wood working room had many basic tools. Sometimes, their shops were located on their personal property. As tensions arise between the colonists and the British, gunsmiths had to work longer hours and they had to increase the amount of guns they made. In result, gunsmiths became staff mangers overseeing large... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gunsmiths made a range of weapons per day sometimes they would make zero or sometimes they would make three or four depending on the gunsmith, and his experience in the trade Gunsmiths would use a boring bench to bore a hole in the guns barrel. They used a rifling bench its job was to cut a series of spiral groves into a rifle. This made the bullet spin which would increase its accuracy. Gunsmiths also used a device called a pan borer. Its purpose was to carve depressions in the pan of the firing mechanism. Gunsmiths also used tools that people in other professions use. For example, saws, axes, drills and bits, chisels, rasps, floats, and planes. Gunsmiths and blacksmiths both used very similar tools because they both worked with metal. • 8. Lady Macbeth Character Analysis Two scenes later, Shakespeare delves deeper into Lady Macbeth s character which adds another perspective to the predicament Macbeth finds himself faced with. Lady Macbeth makes apparent, to the audience, regarding her husband, that she has fear concerning thy nature , and that Macbethis too full o th milk of human kindness . This suggests that Lady Macbeth fears that her husband is incapable of producing what she deems necessary for him to gain the kingship. He possesses the desire, but the ruthlessness required in order to secure kingship and usurp the throne, is something that Lady Macbeth opts to take upon herself after minimal deliberation, which reveals much about her and her husband, in terms of Lady Macbeth s dominance that would shock a contemporary audience. The word milk is perhaps alluding to her belief that Macbeth doesn t possess the strength of character that at the time was seemingly synonymous with masculinity. The audience may well feel as though Lady Macbeth believes that Macbeth yearns for the kingship, yet he will not be proactive in going about obtaining it by illegitimate means as she labels him as too kind to take a leading role in an approach of that ilk. Shakespeare arguably here raises a wider debate by using the play as a mouthpiece to voice his concerns regarding the twisted society of the time in that kindness could be seen as something that would be detrimental to an individual. Shakespeare also perhaps intends to voice concerns over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mohandas Gandhi vs. Martin Luther King Jr. Mohandas Gandhi vs. Martin Luther King Jr. People all over the world know that Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. did great things in their life times. But which one was more effective during his time? The answer to this question is somewhat biased, usually depending on your race, geographical location, and if you or someone you know has directly experienced the effects of the actions of these men. An Indian would choose Mohandas Gandhi over Martin Luther King Jr. without even thinking about it. African Americans are going to choose Martin Luther King Jr. because he fought for their rights. The petition was presented to the Assembly after only one month. This cause became obvious that it wasn t only for the Indian s right to vote but for their survival as a community in Natal. The majority of Indians had just stayed in South Africa after their time as slaves on plantations or in mines ended. These men were about to have to pay a tax of twenty five pounds, an amount they couldn t pay. Gandhi appealed to the Viceroy of India, the Colonial Secretary in London, and to Naoroji, the Indian member of Parliament (Coolidge 44). He registered as an advocate before Natal s Supreme Court, wrote articles, gave speeches, and even removed his turban while the court was in session. Though he could not win voting privileges for immigrants from India, he did retain the power to vote for those Indians already on the voting lists. Unfortunately, Gandhi s hard work did not abolish the tax but he managed to get it reduced to three pounds, still only some could pay this. More important than these two achievements was the Natal Indian Congress. This was a permanent organization with an educational branch and it was available to the poor. Its wide availability exposed the organization to the masses. After his accomplishments in South Africa Gandhi returned to India. A pivotal moment in India s struggle for independence came on March 12, 1930. This two hundred mile, twenty four day walk was taken by seventy eight men and women with Gandhi, 61 at the ... • 10. John Stuart Mills Romanticism And Radicalism John Stuart Mill was born in 1806 and was the eldest son of James Mill and Harriet Barrow. James Mill taught John Greek at the age of three and Latin at age eight. By the age of 14, John had read many Greek and Latin classics. He had studied world history, logic and mathematics and had mastered the basics of economic theory, all of which was part of his father s plan to make John Stuart Milla young advocate of the views of the philosophical radicals. By his late teens, Mill spent many hours editing Jeremy Benthams manuscripts, and he threw himself into the work of the philosophic radicals. John also founded a number of intellectual societies and began to contribute to periodicals, including the Westminster Review, founded by Bentham and James Mill. In 1823, his father secured him a junior position in the East India Company, and he, like his father before him, rose in the ranks, eventually taking his father s position of chief examiner. In his twenties, John Stuart Mill felt the influence of Historicism and Romanticism. This led him to begin searching for a new philosophic radicalism that would be more sensitive to the limits on reform imposed by culture and history and would emphasize the cultivation of our humanity, including the disposition of feeling and imagination. • 17. Movie And Film Version Of To Kill A Mockingbird The film version of To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), which stars Gregory Peck as Atticus and Mary Badham as Scout, is as much a classic as the novel itself. (The film received eight Academy Awards nominations and netted awards for Best Actor, Best Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium, and Best Art Direction Set Decoration, Black and White.) Ideally, a novel and its film version complement each other, which, on many levels, is the case with To Kill a Mockingbird. However, film can accomplish things that novels can t, and vice versa. Likewise, film has limitations that a novel doesn t. This essay explores some of the differences between To Kill a Mockingbird, the film and the novel. Narration By its nature, film is a visual medium, which makes a first person story difficult to tell. To have Scout narrating throughout the film as she does in the book would prove distracting, so Scout as narrator is only presented to set the mood of a scene in the film. As a result, viewers don t get a strong sense of Scout s first person narration as they do in the book; instead, they simply notice the childlike perspective portrayed in the story. (The film uses music to help reinforce the child s point of view. The music is very elementary, and much of the score is composed of single notes without chords or embellishments.) Because the narration is not as straightforward in the film, the film seems to shift more to Jem s experiences. For example, Jem finds all the articles in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

( Liberty | Definition of Liberty by Merriam Webster, n.d.) We as Americans have come to know liberty since the colonies broke away from England on July 4, 1776 and the Declaration of Independence was issued. (Morone, 2016, p.10) Liberty along with freedom is one of our expected rights as an American citizen. Liberty can be viewed as either negative or positive. Negative liberty is, freedom from constraints or the interference of others (Morone, 2016, p.11). Most Libertarians agree with Negative liberty and feel that the government should not be in control. A Libertarian is a group of people who believe in minimal government: specifically, that public officials only role should be defending borders, prosecuting crime, and protecting private property (Morone, 2016, p. 12). I think that negative liberty means that although we should help others in our community, state or country we should not be forced to do so by the government. We should not feel responsible to help out others when they are not doing anything to better themselves. The government cannot put limits on one s own actions or desires. They believe that the New Testament is a biased and unreliable source for the existence of Jesus. They therefore claim that Jesus did not exist. The historical existence of Jesus is necessary to demonstrate the truth of Christianity. While Christian scholars do not discount the reliability of the New Testament as a historical document, they are also able to point to other historical documents and consider non Christian writings which support the existence of Jesus. In this paper I will argue that Jesus the Nazarene was an actual, historical person and that this can be demonstrated through extra Biblical resources. Tacitus Tacitus, perhaps the greatest Roman historian, provides us with an account of the fire of Rome.1 It is within this account, recorded in The Annals, that Tacitus mentions Jesus. In chapters 38 through 45 of Annals 15, Tacitus discusses how Nero implicated Christians as those responsible for the fire. But neither human resourcefulness nor the emperor s largesse nor appeasement of the gods could stop belief in the nasty rumor that an order had been given for the fire. At least that gives us one loose definition for globalisation, but as Scholte (2000) realises, globalisation is a thoroughly contested subject, with arguments extend across the issue of definition as well as measurement, chronology, explanation and normative judgement. In fact, Scholte identifies five contrasting definitions for the word globalisation as used by a number of the subject s commentators and critics internationalisation, liberalisation, universalisation, western/modernisation and deterrioralisation are (2000: 13). In choosing a definition of globalisation, one is also selecting how they wish to interpret it, and what points they wish to convey. For example, the choice of western/modernisation leads to a view that globlisation sees the economically and politically powerful west globalising the rest of the world, whilst universalisation leads to a more neutral stance, taking it s root from the dictionary definition of the word gloalise , meaning to universalise. To judge whether or not globalisation is a myth or fact therefore requires the full understanding of what the term means to it s critics and advocates, and in which ways they belive it to be myth of fact. • 32. Analysis Of The Goophered Grapevine By Charles Chesnutte Charles Chesnutt s Writings for Social and Political Change Charles Chesnutt was a well known African American author who was known for his short stories that conveyed racist African American dialect and conveyed his wishes for equality and social and political change for African Americans. The purpose of this paper is to delve into Chesnutt s short storyThe Goophered Grapevine to define the way Chesnutt manipulated his audience and worked towards white sympathy for the black community. Chesnutt knew that if he attempted his goal with his white audience s knowledge, they would resist and he would therefore be unsuccessful. Therefore, Chesnutt needed to disguise the motive of the story so he could affect his audience without their knowledge of his manipulation. Chesnutt did so through the use of storytelling with three characters that served to show the three sides of the racial divide. Through the use of storytelling, Chesnutt used the three main characters in The Goophered Grapevine as a whole to represent and show the different sides of the racial divide and manipulate his audience into sympathizing with the black society in order for social and political change; Uncle Julius functioned as the storyteller as well as the black society, John functioned as the white side of the community who resisted change, and Annie functioned as the side of the white community that sympathized with the black community and sought political and social change for the black community. ... Some people love it, others not so much. It can bring joy, happiness and laughter, but can bring just as much destruction, danger and misery. When it first touches the ground, fresh, pure, unaffected, it s like a lovely white blanket that covers our world. The first of the three I will write about is the change of machine guns and how useful and significant they were in the first world war. On the one hand, machine guns could be said to be significant because of the extra fire power they provided on a battlefield. It has been estimated that a machine gun creates the equivalent to anywhere between 60 to 100 rifles, depending on the source, in from one weapon. This gave an army defending a position a huge advantage over the attacking side and almost certainly prolonged the stalemate as breaking enemy lines became so difficult as reaching the enemy trench was a near impossible thing to do with the machine gun firing at the attacking men. It has been estimated that around 20% of the casualties of world war 1 were caused by the machine gun. and This figure is very high considering all the possible causes of death in the battlefields of WW1. What also made the machine gun of the first world war significant was how it affected the future. These early models were the basis of a weapon used in all places of the world ever since these first guns were used in the before and mainly during the first world war. The first world war was the period that caused the potential of the machine gun to be recognised. Germany saw the machine gun for the potential it held before the war and had far more of them. Richard Foss and Edward Starkie were two minority shareholders, and claimed that the property of the company had been misapplied and various mortgages were given improperly over the company s property. During the general meeting, they said that no action should be taken against them. At last, the Court dismissed and rejected the two shareholders claim, and held that a breach of duty by the directors of the company was a wrong done to the company for which it alone could sue. The first reason is because of the proper plaintiff rule is that a wrong done to the company may be vindicated by the company alone where the corporation has separate legal entity. As I Lay Dying By William Faulkner Essay As I Lay Dying Final Essay In the novel As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, relates to what seems to be the main concern and topic throughout the story, which is the death of Addie Bundren. The long and strange journey to Jefferson County, Mississippi to bury their mothers body seems to undertake the family together. Faulkners technique throughout his story presents individual sections of the characters throughout their thoughts, perspectives or the events taking place throughout the novel. You can see all the family members and characters have different characteristics of their identity. This idea can be seen as grotesque and the death of their mother inspires several questions about the character s existence and identity and they all seem to encounter the death of their mother uniquely. Each member of the family has a difficult time understanding death and react to it differently. Throughout the Bundren s experience, we see that Varadman is obsessing over a fish he caught shortly after his mother s death. Vardaman, who is the youngest does not yet seem to understand or grieve with the concept of death. As he says, I can feel where the fish was in the dust. It is cut up into pieces or not fish now, not blood on my hands and overalls. Then it wasn t so. It hadn t happened then. And now she is getting so far ahead I can t catch her (Faulkner 32). This is critical information when it comes to legal issues or the interpretation of prehistoric bone fractures. There is an extensive difference in fracture properties that depend both on the time that has passed since death, and the type of environment where the specimen has been exposed after death. A study was performed by Luis Coelho and Hugo F.V. Cardoso, the purpose of this study was to determine the effects of different environments and the time of exposure in the environment on bone fracturepatterns. They are taking a Forensic anthropological approach in which bonetissue quality (whether the bone is dry(postmortem) or fresh (perimortem)), is used, instead of using time intervals relative to the tume of death. The Fractured Freshness Index, which combines fractureangle, fracture surface, and fracture outline as criteria to determine the time of bone fracture, was used along with postmortem interval. Fresh limbs from pig and goat were exposed to three different environments. Seven sets of ten segments of the limbs were either buried, submerged, or left on ground surface. Five segments were pig and five were goat. Each sets were buried within twenty eight days of the previous. The postmortem intervals were 28, 56, 84, 112, 140, 168, and 196 days. Flour with more protein will absorb more water. 2.Mixing and Kneading the Dough The yeast dough must be kneaded properly so the ingredients are combined uniformly and the gluten is developed. This number does not include the dogs who have died after the race or in the kennels because this information is not released. Sporting events like the Iditarod are abusive to dogs in the name of entertainment and need to be discontinued or seriously reformed. To understand how the Iditarod originated, we have to step back in time. The Iditarod was founded by Joe Redington for two reasons. • 56. Descriptive Essay About Tourism The modern day nomad is any person who has to ask themselves where their travel begins and where they end and what exactly counts as the whole soul searching shebang. The thing about those collectors of cool things is that their routine is the lack of one. If that s so, what happens when they come into a highly structured environment that is very direct and singular? I m talking about what happens when they go camping, specifically in the bush of Botswana, largely because that s where a gang of merry international students and I recently found ourselves. The first event, before the whole camping ordeal, is the packing. The reconsideration of possessions started the process before I even left the hotel room. While I could probably find sneaky ways to get all of my possessions into the campground, the people I look up to then not to bring everything and the kitchen sink with them. Sinks do become less useful without running water, as do a lot of things we drag around with us. Do I really need five books, three devices, 20 pairs of socks, and a sore back to enjoy myself? Me and many others come to the answer of no, and some take it a step further and decide that for this trip, they will become a minimalist like no other. This has never turned out so picture perfect for m, but it does represent the start of sacrificing comfort in the hope of gaining something from the lack of it. Often people tell me that they have got one big grand reason that they camp: they want to get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
