curtis s past that he was a (cannibalist) boon joon ho uses symbolism art of hidden meaning behind

Personal Narrative Essay About Diabetes
September 3rd, 2010. Quite an utterly unassuming day for most. On this day, I am eleven years old
and I have a doctor s appointment. I heaved myself out of my restful bed, and my stomach grumbled
and protested along with me. The doctors previously informed me not to eat following midnight, and
my absolute favorite meal is breakfast, so I was not too fond of this advice. Ravenous was the only
word to describe how I was feeling. After proceeding through the motions of readying myself for the
day ahead, I loaded into the car with my mother, and off we went. My mother s face was haggard with
perturbation, and her fingers gripped the steering wheel with a ferocity I had never distinguished
before. She was petrified. I was too, but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We asked you to fast the night before so we could be certain that this was not just due to your
breakfast. These results mean that you most likely have type one diabetes. Those last three words
bounced around my brain before settling right behind my eyes, making them sting and water. What
did she mean? I thought that diabetes was what grandmothers were diagnosed with not eleven year
olds who were just enrolled in middle school. The doctor could detect the denial and dubiety in my
face. She explained to me that my weight loss, extreme thirst, and overall lethargy were caused by this
diagnosis. The puzzle pieces began to click into place, but I wanted to decimate them. The rest of the
information from my doctor was directed toward my mother because I had begun to cry. Hot, silent
tears burned rivets down my face, but I just let them trickle onto the thin paper of the table. My
mother gently tugged at my arm, and she led me to our car and explained that we were on our way to
an endocrinologist. The endocrinologist would be able to better explicate all of the technicalities
associated with my diagnosis. As we drove, my tears dried on my skin, and my face felt hot and itchy.
My whole world felt like it was cascading down,

Executive Functions In Older Adults Essay
Introduction The present paper reviews the benefits of exercise on executive functions in older adults
and discusses a potential mechanism through which exercise may change the way the brain processes
information for better cognitive outcomes. Specifically, older adults who are more physically active
demonstrate a shift toward local neural processing that is associated with better executive functions.
We discuss the use of neural complexity as a sensitive measure of the neural network plasticity that is
enhanced through exercise. We conclude by highlighting the future work needed to improve exercise
prescriptions that help older adults maintain their cognitive and physical functions for longer into their
lifespan.

Age related neuromuscular junction (NMJ) plays a key role in musculoskeletal impairment that occurs
with aging. Changes in the NMJ precede or follow the decline of muscle mass and strength remains
unresolved. When a motor neuron is lost, fibers previously innervated by that neuron, defined as a
motor unit, are no longer controlled by the nervous system and fail to contribute to the force generated
during a volitional muscle contraction. In the attempt to counteract the functional consequence of this
process, denervated orphan fibers express proteins and produce chemotactic signals that stimulate the
sprouting of new dendrites from residual motor neurons. This process leads re innervation by the
expansion of pre existing motor units and is aimed at returning to function previously denervated
muscle fibers. There is evidence that this compensatory mechanism starts failing with aging. The
reason for a progressive impairment of the re innervation process with aging is unknown, but some
lines of evidence point to changes that occur with aging in the neuromuscular junction (NMJ), which
is the synaptic interface between a branch of a motor neuron and muscle cells. The NMJ is composed
of three elements: pre synaptic, intrasynaptic, and post synaptic part. The function of the NMJ is to
transmit signals from the motor neuron to the skeletal muscle fibre quickly and

Fall Concert Analysis
On November 16th, 2017 I attended the Riverview High School Kiltie Band s Fall Concert at
Riverview High School at 7:00pm and there were about 200 people in attendance. The Wind
Ensemble started by playing First Suite in E Flat for Military Band, Op. 28, No.1 by British Composer
Gustav Holst. The composition was first premiered in 1920 at the Royal Military School of Music, but
the manuscript was first completed in 1909. This composition was Holst s first for a military band.
The First Suite has three movements, each with their own form and character. Movement 1 is called
Chaconne . The tempo is allegro moderato. The movement is in ¾ time with and eight bar melody
initiated by low brass. The melody repeats 16 times throughout Chaconne . The brass and percussion
outline the theme and the whole passage is marked brilliante. There are combinations of solo
instruments including a solo horn, duet between flute and oboe, and a solo alto saxophone. The section
eventually develops into a minor key. Movement 2: Intermezzo has a vivace tempo, which is lively
and fast. All of this movement is dedicated to a rhythmic oboe, clarinet and cornet solo. The
movement is light in character and an instrument called the euphonium brings us back to the first
theme. The second theme is then played in a major key. Movement 3: March is played at a march
tempo, which is played at a consistent and regular rhythm for people to march to. This movement
opens with a bass drum solo that is very

Last year s finale left our two main protagonists in rather different circumstances. Hood had already

more than he gained after Gordon died in the shootout and Job was snatched from under their noses.
Whereas Proctor finally wrestles back control of his business after Rebecca s persistent meddling,
skilfully bringing his family unit even closer despite the damage done, and brokering a new deal with
Hector and the Salvadorians. This final season promises jaw dropping twists, a stellar guest cast

Examples Of Individualism In Bartleby The Scrivener
Colton Cummins
Professor Stief
ENGL 2327.702 American Literature To 1865
10 December 2017
(Title)
Gender was a massive factor for writers in the 19th century, as Herman Melville explores in Bartleby,
the Scrivener. In Bartleby, the Scrivener, Herman Melville presents Bartleby as an employed scrivener.
He is the person that copies documents for the narrator in the story. This work was not uncommon for
someone like Bartleby in the 19th century society. The society approved of the male professional
writer, but Bartleby refused this profession and through his I would prefer not to statements, he
challenges the standards held to him by society, reinforcing his individualism. In Bartleby, the
Scrivener, multiple examples imply acceptance of writing as a male profession. For example, what
seems to be everyone at the office is men. At the period just preceding the advent of Bartleby, I had
two persons as copyists in my employment, and a promising lad as an office boy. First, Turkey;
second, Nippers; third, Ginger Nut (Melville ). This shows that the office is comprised of men
including Turkey, Ginger Nut, Nippers, and also the narrator when he states he is a rather elderly man
(1). From this, you can see that this work environment is more of a place for men rather than women.
The narrator also mentioned men being the main workers earlier in the story. The narrator states, The
nature of my avocations for the last thirty years has brought me more than ordinary contact with an
interesting set of men I mean the law copyists, or scriveners (3). Through his labor in law, and through
the years of employing scriveners, he has only come in contact with him. Women weren t considered
upon any mention of the scrivener s position as well as professional writers. Also, Turkey and Nippers
were actual copyists, but the young Ginger Nut is the promising lad as an office boy. They are
teaching Ginger Nut the ropes and hope that he also becomes a copyist. Ginger Nut isn t a perfect
candidate because he is an aspiring writer, but mainly because he is a male, and would, therefore, fit
the standard set by society and the narrator. Furthermore, the Narrator gives nicknames to his three
employees, which can be

How Did William I Win The Norman Conquest
The Norman Conquest of England started in 1066, when William the Conqueror (Duke of Normandy)
led the invasion. His success at the Battle of Hastings, against Harold II (the last Anglo Saxon King of
England), allowed the Normans to rule over England (although it took until 1071 for the country to be
fully subdued because of numerous rebellions). William I was finally crowned and became King of
England on Christmas day 1066, after he had forced the submission of the Witan and other opposition
leaders. But he still faced much resistance from the locals for many years, particularly Northern
England, so he had them restrained.
While William s repressive measures were taking place, there were needs for fortification. Motte and
Bailey castles were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also made sure he controlled elections and had royal presence at Church councils. England s
Church soon became disconnected to Rome and papal influence was excluded. As for the Church s
staff members, William first got rid of Stigand (Archbishop of Canterbury) as he was
excommunicated, along with other bishops and abbots. Again he continued to fill vacancies with
Normans. In 1075, thirteen out of twenty five abbots were English but in contrast, in 1087 only three
were English. William went on to appoint Lanfranc as Archbishop of Canterbury (who was also his
personal abbot of St Stephen s at Caen) who contributed hugely to the English Church. He also
instated Thomas as Archbishop of York, but this subsequently led to quarrels over Thomas s
independent power, which made William determined to dispose of separatism entirely. Rules and
guidelines surrounding priests became stricter and they were encouraged with better clerical morals.
This, together with other criteria like the restructuring of dioceses, created a better organization and
increased the status of the church. These changes secured William s divine control by bolstering his
royal authority, through the spread of his influence and a supporting partnership with the church.
Combined with the feudal system the boundaries of the kingdom were strengthened, as was William s

is in sharp contrast with the Japanese collectivist nature of working in a group for the company as a
whole. The individualistic nature of the Americans also leads to power conflicts among themselves.
This is because, when additional responsibilities are given to them, they view it as an extension of
their individual sovereignties (because of their thirst for personal achievements and accomplishments)
and this leads to power conflicts in the case of overlapping sovereign areas. The Japanese being
extremely high on the dimension of ³masculinity´, the job culture is often in contradiction to the
American workers who lay equal emphasis to personal life as to professional, and their work life
balance is imbalanced. The excessive importance given to dedication and devotion to work can create
work stress for the Americans who put ³personal and family happiness first´. This is also evident in
their recruitment philosophy: It is the ability, performance and attitude of an individual which is
measured in an interview, rather than assigning a pseudo ± status to one owing to the prestige of his
degree. This often leads to a communication gap between the Japanese and the Americans, which is
literally evident in the meetings and discussions which happen at late hours when the Americans have
retired for the day, among the Japanese in their language. Needless to say, this created apprehension in
the minds of the Americans but the management tries to rectify the issue by

The Importance Of Law Enforcement
b. Introduction a. When it comes to upholding the law this essay will identify the explanations on how
the law enforcement exactly does that. It will further examine how law enforcement is implemented

Analysis of Bertrand Russell´s The Problems of Philosphy...
06455401
1)
The philosopher Bertrand Russell in his work, The Problems of Philosophy, comes to some
conclusions of the truth of objects in our world. Through questioning certain ideas and problems in
our world, he breaks down what can know what really exists in the world and what does not. Russell,
an empiricist, believes that through our sensory perception of our environment. However, our own
individual perception can be skewed, and therefore is susceptible to err. Russell gives an example of
three people, one is color blind, one is sick, and one is inebriated sick, and one is inebriated, and ask
them to describe the same chair, they will all give you slightly different answers. Then if you take that
chair and put it behind a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This consistency proposes to Russell, that we, at least, must have faith in the reality of a single,
specific, real chair. To this commonsensible belief, he also goes on to propose the idea that real objects
cause the sense data we intake, so therefore must be related to them in a certain noteworthy way. So
from this what can we believe and not believe to exist? Well first of all we can believe that, if we are
looking at the chair, we can conclude the object itself is real, there is a chair there. Our senses take in
the sense data of a chair, four legs, a back rest, etc. We then take this data and use our prior knowledge
of other chair like things, and we can come to the solution of the object we are looking at is a chair.
This logic applies to all objects in such a manner. However we cannot truly believe that certain things
truly exists. Such as the fact that we cannot truly believe the existence of certain characteristics of an
objects when it s subject outside influence, such as a chair in water. To the naked eye, the chair would
look distorted, but it is not so, the water distorts our perception of the chair, therefore deceiving our
view of the reality of the characteristics of the chair. In conclusion, Russell gives us an answer to the
question, if our senses can be easily deceived and tricked into perceiving and reality that is false, how
can we believe it

Sedna s fingers become them. These myths reflect the Canadian culture by expressing the need to

The value of family is evident in each. In Sedna, Goddess of the Seas, Sedna s father comes to save

Sustainable Development Policies Can Reduce Urbanization...
Cities all over the world are developing. This urbanization process is causing a number of problems
and can be met by sustainable development policies. In the beginning, it is important to know what is
the reason for urbanization. Most people move to the city because they want to get a better life.
Another important term is a sustainable development. There are some definitions for sustainable
development, but simply they say that sustainable development is a development which using
resources now and preserving them for future generations (Adams, 1999, p.137). This concept has
been agreed internationally at a Rio Conference in 1992 to be implemented by all government policies

In the developing countries, the urban population is increasing 500% while in the developed countries
only 200% at the same period. In Africa, the number of people who live in cities might increase two
fold by 2010 than in 1950 (Bilham Boult, Blades, Hancock, Keeling, and Ridout, 1999, p. 127). To
conclude, these trends show that urbanization and the problems with it such as traffic jams and
housing problems will focus on urban areas or cities around the globe, especially in developing
countries.
Increasing population in urban areas is causing traffic jam. The reason for this is the fact that
automobile dependence in cities is increasing all over the world from the 1980s to projected 1990s.
US, European, Asian, Australian, and Canadian cities increase the number but with a different pace
(ESCAP as cited in Newman, 1999, p. 153). Some Asian cities like Bangkok, Jakarta, and Kuala
Lumpur suffer from this automobile dependence trend. The traffic jams in these cities are very bad. A
lot of money is wasted because they burned fossil fuels for nothing except pollution. Inefficiency is
happening everyday. These happen because wrong government policies that make the automobile
dependence increase. According to Newman (1999, p. 156), the government in Bangkok and Jakarta

It is still common in today s society to dismiss women s experiences in the workforce. According to
pureresearch.org, women are more likely than men to adjust their career in order to take care of their

terms of women in the workforce. She explains in her article Why Women Can t Have It All , the
difficulty of keeping a high profile job while taking care of her family. Her experiences is very
common among women all over the spectrum of the workforce. As a feminist her article has touched a
very sensitive issue. Many people sees the article as a slap in the face or a step backwards in the fight
for women rights, however upon examination of the article, I don t really think Anne Marie is
necessarily talking about inequality in the workforce rather the guilt that women feel when they are
not fully involved in their children s life as well as the perception that women with a high profile job
and a family is viewed upon as a superhuman as she eloquently stated; The women who has both
managed to be both mothers and top professionals are superhuman, rich, or self employed . For
women who looked up to Anne Marie as an important role model this article is seen as a

Emma Amos Research Paper
The first artist name is Emma Amos s, a painter and printmaker who was born in 1938 in Atlanta
Georgia. She began painting and drawing when she was six. Emma was also in a five year program at
Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio where she spent her fourth year abroad at the London
Central School of Art studying printmaking and painting. Amos s first solo exhibition was in an
Atlanta gallery in 1960. Amos s work has been exhibited internationally and is included in the
collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Wadsworth Athenaeum, the New Jersey and Minnesota
state museums, and the Dade County and Newark museums. She has won prestigious awards and
grants . (Amos) The next artist is Hale Woodruff, an African American artist known for his morals,
paintings, prints. Returning to the U.S. in 1931, Woodruff established an art school at Atlanta

could tell Emma really put her all into it and enjoy painting this. The mood I get from this painting is a

she or a woman is relaxing on an air bed in the pool soaking up some sun while enjoying life. What I
really like about this painting is that you can see all the details put into it and details in the
brushstrokes really makes the picture come alive. Woodruff finished his painting Giddap in 1996.
What stood out to me about this painting is that it tells a story. Most of Woodruff pieces in the gallery
told a story but with this one, it made me want to know what was the background/idea behind painting

Advantages Of Indium Based Solders
Indium based solders have distinct features of low melting temperature and low temperature ductility.
They have very rapid rate of recovery and recrystallization, which could be as fast as their work
hardening rate. These characteristics make the indium joint seldom to fail under thermal cycling:
usually they fail due to overload or unidirectional creep [1]. Therefore, indium solders could be a
preferred choice to solder dissimilar materials to be used under thermal cyclic service condition [2].
Pure indium has low wetting and spreading characteristics along with mediocre mechanical strengths,
therefore usually is not a choice of soldering materials with gold. However, above mentioned
characteristics could be ameliorated by the incorporation of alloying elements like: Sn, Pb, Ag, or Bi.
Alloy addition effectuates formation of eutectic phase(s) rendering certain practical benefits.
Primarily, the alloying causes formation of multiphase microstructure, which improves ... Show more

The primary reason is the restricted solubility of gold in indium, while other solders readily dissolve
gold at soldering temperatures. The dissolution continues till the depletion of gold under the solder
occurs making the joint vulnerable to low mechanical strength and insufficient electrical conduction.
Contrarily, indium forms an intermetallic compound (AuIn2), also known as scavenging phase, at the
interface of gold [4]. If the compound forms a continuous layer on the interface of gold, further
dissolution of gold is restricted. The formation of continuous intermetallic layer is supported by
selective alloy additions e.g. silver. In the presence of silver, the interfacial layer takes the form of
continuous grains of the AuIn2 compound embedded entirely in primary indium. The silver restricts
facile diffusion between the solder and the gold coating, therefore limiting the reaction to continue

Super Size Me Argument
Thesis and supporting argument of the film: The main point of Super Size Me is that McDonald s
product causes overweight and obesity in the United States. The film makes the case for this thesis by
showing that McDonald s sale strategy is inducing customers to eat more than they need. First,
McDonald s always encourages customer spend a little more to upgrade the meal size. By knowing
customer psychology which is getting the best deal in comparative pricing, McDonald is welling to
earn a little more from each customer. The company clearly is profit orientated, and this is not a huge
problem unless its products have harmful side effect. According to Dir. Morgan Spurlock s

The film provides facts, experiment, and lots of experts opinions. First, it gives out the fact that
America is the fattest nation in the world. Over 100 million Americans are overweight or obsess. 60%
of all US adults are overweight or obsess. (Dir. Morgan Spurlock, 2008) It shows that the problem is
real and it should be an issue that everyone pay attention to. According to Eric Schlosser, American
Journalist, there is one in fourteen American having meal in McDonald and nine in ten children having
McDonald once a month. By this shocking fact, the film director started his own experiment with 30
days McDonald s meal. Though a normal person may not do this in real life, the experiment is
convincing that McDonald s product have harmful effect over human health in long tern. On the other
side, some free market supporter might think the McDonald s product already passed government s
food regulation, such as FDA, and this should indicate the food safety is within the standard. They
believe in the idea of free market, the business is good to operate as long as they follow the laws and
rules. However, I believe when a company has too much impact over people, it should have more
responsibility or liability over its business. Like Hollywood movies, MTV and blue jeans, fast food
has become one of America s major cultural exports. (Eric Schlosser, Charlie Wilson, 2008) In fact,

Mechanical Chest Compression Analysis
There is strong correlation between high quality chest compressions and patient survival with positive
neurological outcomes (J). Despite this, the quality of manual CPR depends on the endurance and
skills of the first responder and has been found to only provide approximately 30% of normal cardiac
output. This quality of CPR being particularly poor during patient transport (E). This is why numerous
mechanical chest compression devices have been invented and implemented in ambulance services.
These devices attempt to improve circulation, uniformity and free up more paramedics to perform
other critical patient care tasks such as, airway management (L). However, research surrounding
whether there are increased benefits for patients that receive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, there were still more occurrences with the mechanical device which aids in supporting the
previous studies. The study identified that among 1000 patients that received mechanical and manual
chest compressions, 7 experienced adverse events with mechanical and 3 with manual (E). However, a
proportion of these events were more serious than those mentioned in the previous study. For example,
in the mechanical chest compressions there was 1 reported case of a ruptured spleen, 1 pneumothorax
and 1 fractured thoracic vertebrae. Within the manual chest compressions there was a fractured rib and
an abdominal aortic aneurysm (E).
This is indicative that adverse events are more likely to occur with manual chest compressions.
However, in any cardiac patient management, the risk of an adverse event occurring should be
weighed against the benefit of applying a mechanical chest compression device that will provide the
patient with regular compressions. In addition, correct positioning and maintenance of the device may
eliminate many of these events (C F). Incorrect positioning of the device increases risk of damage to
the rib cage and internal organs, and can compromise blood circulation, increasing poor perfusion

American Indian Identity
Throughout the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian , the author uses various
symbols, motifs, and themes to explore life on a native American reservation, through the eyes of a
teenager named Arnold or Junior. Through the book, Junior s identity developed due to his
circumstances. The book presented the various issues a young teenager living on the Spokane Indian
reservation due to his intersectionality, of being poor, native American, male and heterosexual. The
author presents various serious issues through a comical way, but still makes the reader actively
rethink stereotypes.
Juniors live on his reservation was fulfilled with poverty, alcoholism, and tragedy. Throughout the
book junior often noticed the issues which plagued his life and realized and internalized some of the
views these circumstances plagued him with. For example, But we reservation Indians dent get to

Art Appreciation
Art cannot be classified into one category, style, or period. Art is very diverse, ranging from the
beginning of the human being to today. Through the years, art has evolved dramatically from stick
figures and two dimensional animals to three dimensional sculptures and intricate paintings. The
artwork featured at the Seattle Art Museum shows many different types of art and features several
different periods in which these artworks were created. Two pieces of art that stuck out the most at the
museum was Albert Bierstadt s Puget Sound on the Pacific Coast and Robert Arneson s Pool with
Splash. Both of these pieces of art showed character and seemed to almost speak to the viewer.

The pool that Robert formed using the ceramic media is three dimensional in form and is closely
shaped like a lima bean. The water of the pool, is made up of many different pieces of ceramic and has
several different shades of blue and green. In order to represent the movement of water within the
pool, Robert used complimentary blues and greens together and slightly swirled them to make it look
close to how water moves. Each piece of the pools water fits together like a tight puzzle. They are
numbered so that the colors and shapes can be set together perfectly while on display. In the center of
the pool, is a large white ceramic splash . Robert gave this piece curves and form to represent the
splash of water as if someone was jumping into the pool and creating a huge backsplash. The edge of
Roberts Pool with Splash is created to look like the cement barrier that contains the water of the pool.
He formed each piece to look like a block which forms the shape of the lima bean pool. These parts of
his masterpiece do not have the glazy appearance that the water pieces give. The Pool with Splash by
Robert Arneson really shows and represents how a pool in someone s backyard would look on a hot
summer day.

Robert put the style of pop art into the pool. He wanted

Children With Asd ( Autism Spectrum Disorder )
Summary:
Parron and colleagues conducted a study where children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) were
asked to recognise biological motion through the use of PLDs (point light displays). They aimed to
find whether high functioning children with autism showed the same specific problem with perceiving
emotional material in PLDs in comparison to typically developing children. Secondly, they wanted to
explore the degree performance on these tasks and whether it is comparable to high functioning adults
with ASD. The use of PLDs depicted different motions depending on the four conditions which
included, a person s actions, subjective states, emotional condition and everyday objects. Participants
were asked to describe the PLD as accurately as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, autistic children seem to have difficulty in recognising bodily gestures and context on an
emotional level, yet seem to compare similarly to typically developing children on recognising simple
actions (Hubert et al, 2007). ASD consists of various mental disorders such as autism, Asperger s
syndrome, and childhood disintegrative disorder (DSM IV). Autism is undeniably a part of ASD,
defined as a triad of impairments, it consists of specific deficits which may be more susceptible in
recognising certain types of motion (Wing and Gould in 1979 as cited in Mitchell Fenja, 2013). As
Parron et al hypothesised to find differences in autistic children, the findings are more generalised to
ASD rather than autism thus reducing the internal validity of the findings. Gepner and Mestre in 2002
found those with autism showed less postural reactivity in comparison to those with Asperger s
syndrome whom showed increased postural activity (as cited in Greffou et al, 2011). This suggests,
regardless of the subcategories within ASD, there are variations amongst the specific mental disorders,
which affects the internal validity of this study.
The use of PLD is prominent in studies which have undeniably influenced Parron et als research,
particularly when measuring recognition of biological motion (Moore, Hobson Lee, 1997 as cited in
Parron et al,

Participation Backwards Argumentative Essay
Every year people complain that kids get awards they didn t earn simply for participating in an event.
This is damaging to their future perspective on rewards, which are earned through effort rather than
just showing up and giving minimal effort. Giving kids rewards for the effort they exhibit while
participating in events can be beneficial, but if you constantly reward children they ll receive the
wrong message. That no matter the amount of effort or what the outcome is you ll be given a reward.
As parents you are not doing the best you can for your kids if you allow this to happen. You are not
setting them up for success if you always give them a trophy, especially when they give minimal effort
or lose.
Participation trophies are always under scrutiny by many different groups of people. Even with this
huge stigma following them, the issue isn t usually covered by the media or debated on a large scale.
That silence was broken when the Pittsburg Steelers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

up and doing anything, it will keep kids interested in playing the game or coming to practice. Until
everyone got a trophy for just showing up, they truly meant something. The definition of a trophy is as
follows, something gained or given in victory or conquest especially when preserved or mounted as a
memorial (Merriam Webster). When did trophies designed to be given as rewards for great victories
become the means to get kids show up? Instead we should be giving them ice cream, cookies, or pizza
as a reward for showing up. These would get them to participate but are small enough rewards that
won t damage their understanding of the effort really needed to obtain the top

Four Major Body Systems
The human body works in complex way. Comparable to that of a well oiled machine, the slightest
error or mistake can cause chaos to ones body. The mistakes made in essential body processes, such as
homeostasis, can be especially catastrophic. The body systems, or specific categories that most
processes in the body are attributed to, are what must be held to perfection. The major body systems
each play a key role in helping to maintain the internal homeostasis of the body. To begin with, the
four major body systems that deal with life systems, the respiratory, cardiovascular, and immune
system, all play separate roles to maintain homeostasis. The respiratory systems function is to provide
the body with oxygen so that it may use it in other purposes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The skeletal system, which deals with the body s support and structure, keeps homeostasis by
regulating the calcium supply in the bones. By doing this, out bones stay as healthy and as strong as
possible. The muscular system, which is attached to the skeletal system, deals with the body s
movement. One way the muscular system maintains homeostasis is by sweating. If the body gets to
hot and needs to cool down, it produces sweat which allows the skin cool down. Next, comes the
endocrine system. This system is a collection of glands, which produce hormones to basically regulate
a range of processes including sleep, sexual functions, growth and even development. It maintains
homeostasis by making sure the correct amount of hormones are released, for example, if there is an
insufficient amount, then more will be released and vice versa. This system works closely with the
reproductive system. The reproductive system is the body s sex organs and helps in the reproduction
of humans. It maintains its homeostasis in different ways for both men and women. For men, on cold
days, the testes will retract so they are closer to the body to stay warm. On a hot day, the opposite
happens. For women, the menstrual cycle is a carefully balanced system, which helps to regulate the
times at which the body is most

Illegal Immigrants Cause High Unemployment in Califorina...
California is one of the United States largest producers of agricultural goods. As a result, there has
always been a demand for more labor to meet the quantity demanded. In order to fill the demand for
labor, workers from Mexico or other countries south of the United States border crossed the border
into California illegally, hoping to find work. In other cases, citizens from other countries will apply
for visas in the United States and then overstay their visas. These workers become undocumented
migrant workers, roaming from farm to farm, hoping that they can make enough money to send home.
Farmers hire these workers and pay them illegally with cash. A recent report by Leon F. Bouvier states
that Since 1979, legal immigrants have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, it can be inferred that perhaps undocumented migrant workers benefit California s
economy more than they hurt the economy. There is an increasing number of undocumented
immigrants, but field agents and census takers are unable to obtain a semi accurate count of how many
undocumented immigrants actually exist in the United States. These immigrants often hide from
government officials in order to avoid being caught, and subsequently being deported back to their
home country. As they are also migrant workers and constantly move around the state from farm to
farm, it is also difficult to try and formulate a number of how many illegal or undocumented
immigrants reside in the state of California. (Immigrant and Migrant workers in the Santa Maria
Valley, California 2) Therefore, it is difficult to estimate how many jobs the undocumented migrant
workers have taken from legal citizens that are looking for work within California s agricultural
sector. A report from the LA times published in 2010 estimates the number of undocumented
immigrants residing within California at around 12 million. Although it is difficult to say whether or
not all of these immigrants work in the agriculture sector, it is apparent that these immigrants have a
large impact on California s economy. People assume that undocumented workers are taking

Persuasive Essay On Legalizing Abortion
Abortion: the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by
the death of the embryo or fetus. Throughout our lives we are constantly taking other people s
opinions into consideration. We care more about what people think of us, rather than how we think of
ourselves. In reality, the only opinion that matters is your own. Abortion has been legal since 1973.
People have been arguing whether it should be legal or illegal ever since. Abortion should stay
legalized for various reasons. A woman has rights, and these rights include what she gets to do with
her body. The U.S. Supreme Court decided in favor of abortion rights during the case of Roe v. Wade
on January 22, 1973. They stated that This right of privacy... is broad enough to encompass a woman s
decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy. People argue that a baby is capable of feeling pain
when it is killed. This is completely false. A developing fetus s brain starts to structure between the 7th
and 8th months of gestation and during this time they start to perceive pain. This is far past the time
when an abortion is carried out. So technically, the baby can t feel anything at the time of the ... Show

  • 3. Personal Narrative Essay About Diabetes September 3rd, 2010. Quite an utterly unassuming day for most. On this day, I am eleven years old and I have a doctor s appointment. I heaved myself out of my restful bed, and my stomach grumbled and protested along with me. The doctors previously informed me not to eat following midnight, and my absolute favorite meal is breakfast, so I was not too fond of this advice. Ravenous was the only word to describe how I was feeling. After proceeding through the motions of readying myself for the day ahead, I loaded into the car with my mother, and off we went. My mother s face was haggard with perturbation, and her fingers gripped the steering wheel with a ferocity I had never distinguished before. She was petrified. I was too, but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We asked you to fast the night before so we could be certain that this was not just due to your breakfast. These results mean that you most likely have type one diabetes. Those last three words bounced around my brain before settling right behind my eyes, making them sting and water. What did she mean? I thought that diabetes was what grandmothers were diagnosed with not eleven year olds who were just enrolled in middle school. The doctor could detect the denial and dubiety in my face. She explained to me that my weight loss, extreme thirst, and overall lethargy were caused by this diagnosis. The puzzle pieces began to click into place, but I wanted to decimate them. The rest of the information from my doctor was directed toward my mother because I had begun to cry. Hot, silent tears burned rivets down my face, but I just let them trickle onto the thin paper of the table. My mother gently tugged at my arm, and she led me to our car and explained that we were on our way to an endocrinologist. The endocrinologist would be able to better explicate all of the technicalities associated with my diagnosis. As we drove, my tears dried on my skin, and my face felt hot and itchy. My whole world felt like it was cascading down, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Executive Functions In Older Adults Essay Introduction The present paper reviews the benefits of exercise on executive functions in older adults and discusses a potential mechanism through which exercise may change the way the brain processes information for better cognitive outcomes. Specifically, older adults who are more physically active demonstrate a shift toward local neural processing that is associated with better executive functions. We discuss the use of neural complexity as a sensitive measure of the neural network plasticity that is enhanced through exercise. We conclude by highlighting the future work needed to improve exercise prescriptions that help older adults maintain their cognitive and physical functions for longer into their lifespan. Anatomy Physiology The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Age related neuromuscular junction (NMJ) plays a key role in musculoskeletal impairment that occurs with aging. Changes in the NMJ precede or follow the decline of muscle mass and strength remains unresolved. When a motor neuron is lost, fibers previously innervated by that neuron, defined as a motor unit, are no longer controlled by the nervous system and fail to contribute to the force generated during a volitional muscle contraction. In the attempt to counteract the functional consequence of this process, denervated orphan fibers express proteins and produce chemotactic signals that stimulate the sprouting of new dendrites from residual motor neurons. This process leads re innervation by the expansion of pre existing motor units and is aimed at returning to function previously denervated muscle fibers. There is evidence that this compensatory mechanism starts failing with aging. The reason for a progressive impairment of the re innervation process with aging is unknown, but some lines of evidence point to changes that occur with aging in the neuromuscular junction (NMJ), which is the synaptic interface between a branch of a motor neuron and muscle cells. The NMJ is composed of three elements: pre synaptic, intrasynaptic, and post synaptic part. The function of the NMJ is to transmit signals from the motor neuron to the skeletal muscle fibre quickly and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Fall Concert Analysis On November 16th, 2017 I attended the Riverview High School Kiltie Band s Fall Concert at Riverview High School at 7:00pm and there were about 200 people in attendance. The Wind Ensemble started by playing First Suite in E Flat for Military Band, Op. 28, No.1 by British Composer Gustav Holst. The composition was first premiered in 1920 at the Royal Military School of Music, but the manuscript was first completed in 1909. This composition was Holst s first for a military band. The First Suite has three movements, each with their own form and character. Movement 1 is called Chaconne . The tempo is allegro moderato. The movement is in ¾ time with and eight bar melody initiated by low brass. The melody repeats 16 times throughout Chaconne . The brass and percussion outline the theme and the whole passage is marked brilliante. There are combinations of solo instruments including a solo horn, duet between flute and oboe, and a solo alto saxophone. The section eventually develops into a minor key. Movement 2: Intermezzo has a vivace tempo, which is lively and fast. All of this movement is dedicated to a rhythmic oboe, clarinet and cornet solo. The movement is light in character and an instrument called the euphonium brings us back to the first theme. The second theme is then played in a major key. Movement 3: March is played at a march tempo, which is played at a consistent and regular rhythm for people to march to. This movement opens with a bass drum solo that is very ... Hood had already been hit hard by Siobhan death, but although his team took both Chayton and Stowe he arguably lost more than he gained after Gordon died in the shootout and Job was snatched from under their noses. Whereas Proctor finally wrestles back control of his business after Rebecca s persistent meddling, skilfully bringing his family unit even closer despite the damage done, and brokering a new deal with Hector and the Salvadorians. This final season promises jaw dropping twists, a stellar guest cast (including Eliza Dushku) and of course all the best choreographed fight scenes and breathtaking stunts you can handle including a mind blowing kick ass action sequence filmed in the Banshee ravine during the closing days of filming and Greg ... • 8. Examples Of Individualism In Bartleby The Scrivener Colton Cummins Professor Stief ENGL 2327.702 American Literature To 1865 10 December 2017 (Title) Gender was a massive factor for writers in the 19th century, as Herman Melville explores in Bartleby, the Scrivener. In Bartleby, the Scrivener, Herman Melville presents Bartleby as an employed scrivener. He is the person that copies documents for the narrator in the story. This work was not uncommon for someone like Bartleby in the 19th century society. The society approved of the male professional writer, but Bartleby refused this profession and through his I would prefer not to statements, he challenges the standards held to him by society, reinforcing his individualism. In Bartleby, the Scrivener, multiple examples imply acceptance of writing as a male profession. For example, what seems to be everyone at the office is men. At the period just preceding the advent of Bartleby, I had two persons as copyists in my employment, and a promising lad as an office boy. This shows that the office is comprised of men including Turkey, Ginger Nut, Nippers, and also the narrator when he states he is a rather elderly man (1). From this, you can see that this work environment is more of a place for men rather than women. The narrator also mentioned men being the main workers earlier in the story. The narrator states, The nature of my avocations for the last thirty years has brought me more than ordinary contact with an interesting set of men I mean the law copyists, or scriveners (3). His success at the Battle of Hastings, against Harold II (the last Anglo Saxon King of England), allowed the Normans to rule over England (although it took until 1071 for the country to be fully subdued because of numerous rebellions). William I was finally crowned and became King of England on Christmas day 1066, after he had forced the submission of the Witan and other opposition leaders. Again he continued to fill vacancies with Normans. In 1075, thirteen out of twenty five abbots were English but in contrast, in 1087 only three were English. William went on to appoint Lanfranc as Archbishop of Canterbury (who was also his personal abbot of St Stephen s at Caen) who contributed hugely to the English Church. He also instated Thomas as Archbishop of York, but this subsequently led to quarrels over Thomas s independent power, which made William determined to dispose of separatism entirely. Rules and guidelines surrounding priests became stricter and they were encouraged with better clerical morals. This, together with other criteria like the restructuring of dioceses, created a better organization and increased the status of the church. The Japanese being extremely high on the dimension of ³masculinity´, the job culture is often in contradiction to the American workers who lay equal emphasis to personal life as to professional, and their work life balance is imbalanced. Analysis of Bertrand Russell´s The Problems of Philosphy... 06455401 1) The philosopher Bertrand Russell in his work, The Problems of Philosophy, comes to some conclusions of the truth of objects in our world. Through questioning certain ideas and problems in our world, he breaks down what can know what really exists in the world and what does not. Russell, an empiricist, believes that through our sensory perception of our environment. However, our own individual perception can be skewed, and therefore is susceptible to err. Russell gives an example of three people, one is color blind, one is sick, and one is inebriated sick, and one is inebriated, and ask them to describe the same chair, they will all give you slightly different answers. Then if you take that chair and put it behind a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This consistency proposes to Russell, that we, at least, must have faith in the reality of a single, specific, real chair. To this commonsensible belief, he also goes on to propose the idea that real objects cause the sense data we intake, so therefore must be related to them in a certain noteworthy way. So from this what can we believe and not believe to exist? Well first of all we can believe that, if we are looking at the chair, we can conclude the object itself is real, there is a chair there. Our senses take in the sense data of a chair, four legs, a back rest, etc. We then take this data and use our prior knowledge of other chair like things, and we can come to the solution of the object we are looking at is a chair. This logic applies to all objects in such a manner. However we cannot truly believe that certain things truly exists. Such as the fact that we cannot truly believe the existence of certain characteristics of an objects when it s subject outside influence, such as a chair in water. To the naked eye, the chair would look distorted, but it is not so, the water distorts our perception of the chair, therefore deceiving our view of the reality of the characteristics of the chair. In conclusion, Russell gives us an answer to the question, if our senses can be easily deceived and tricked into perceiving and reality that is false, how can we believe it ... In Africa, the number of people who live in cities might increase two fold by 2010 than in 1950 (Bilham Boult, Blades, Hancock, Keeling, and Ridout, 1999, p. 127). To conclude, these trends show that urbanization and the problems with it such as traffic jams and housing problems will focus on urban areas or cities around the globe, especially in developing countries. Increasing population in urban areas is causing traffic jam. The reason for this is the fact that automobile dependence in cities is increasing all over the world from the 1980s to projected 1990s. US, European, Asian, Australian, and Canadian cities increase the number but with a different pace (ESCAP as cited in Newman, 1999, p. 153). They have very rapid rate of recovery and recrystallization, which could be as fast as their work hardening rate. These characteristics make the indium joint seldom to fail under thermal cycling: usually they fail due to overload or unidirectional creep [1]. Therefore, indium solders could be a preferred choice to solder dissimilar materials to be used under thermal cyclic service condition [2]. Pure indium has low wetting and spreading characteristics along with mediocre mechanical strengths, therefore usually is not a choice of soldering materials with gold. However, above mentioned characteristics could be ameliorated by the incorporation of alloying elements like: Sn, Pb, Ag, or Bi. If the compound forms a continuous layer on the interface of gold, further dissolution of gold is restricted. The formation of continuous intermetallic layer is supported by selective alloy additions e.g. silver. The water of the pool, is made up of many different pieces of ceramic and has several different shades of blue and green. In order to represent the movement of water within the pool, Robert used complimentary blues and greens together and slightly swirled them to make it look close to how water moves. Each piece of the pools water fits together like a tight puzzle. They are numbered so that the colors and shapes can be set together perfectly while on display. In the center of the pool, is a large white ceramic splash . Robert gave this piece curves and form to represent the splash of water as if someone was jumping into the pool and creating a huge backsplash. The edge of Roberts Pool with Splash is created to look like the cement barrier that contains the water of the pool. He formed each piece to look like a block which forms the shape of the lima bean pool. These parts of his masterpiece do not have the glazy appearance that the water pieces give. The Pool with Splash by Robert Arneson really shows and represents how a pool in someone s backyard would look on a hot summer day. The group that Robert was in featured pop art in many of their pieces. With his Pool with Splash, Robert put the style of pop art into the pool. He wanted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Children With Asd ( Autism Spectrum Disorder ) Summary: Parron and colleagues conducted a study where children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) were asked to recognise biological motion through the use of PLDs (point light displays). They aimed to find whether high functioning children with autism showed the same specific problem with perceiving emotional material in PLDs in comparison to typically developing children. Secondly, they wanted to explore the degree performance on these tasks and whether it is comparable to high functioning adults with ASD. The use of PLDs depicted different motions depending on the four conditions which included, a person s actions, subjective states, emotional condition and everyday objects. Participants were asked to describe the PLD as accurately as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, autistic children seem to have difficulty in recognising bodily gestures and context on an emotional level, yet seem to compare similarly to typically developing children on recognising simple actions (Hubert et al, 2007). ASD consists of various mental disorders such as autism, Asperger s syndrome, and childhood disintegrative disorder (DSM IV). Autism is undeniably a part of ASD, defined as a triad of impairments, it consists of specific deficits which may be more susceptible in recognising certain types of motion (Wing and Gould in 1979 as cited in Mitchell Fenja, 2013). As Parron et al hypothesised to find differences in autistic children, the findings are more generalised to ASD rather than autism thus reducing the internal validity of the findings. Gepner and Mestre in 2002 found those with autism showed less postural reactivity in comparison to those with Asperger s syndrome whom showed increased postural activity (as cited in Greffou et al, 2011). This suggests, regardless of the subcategories within ASD, there are variations amongst the specific mental disorders, which affects the internal validity of this study. The use of PLD is prominent in studies which have undeniably influenced Parron et als research, particularly when measuring recognition of biological motion (Moore, Hobson Lee, 1997 as cited in Parron et al, ... • 33. Participation Backwards Argumentative Essay Every year people complain that kids get awards they didn t earn simply for participating in an event. This is damaging to their future perspective on rewards, which are earned through effort rather than just showing up and giving minimal effort. Giving kids rewards for the effort they exhibit while participating in events can be beneficial, but if you constantly reward children they ll receive the wrong message. That no matter the amount of effort or what the outcome is you ll be given a reward. As parents you are not doing the best you can for your kids if you allow this to happen. You are not setting them up for success if you always give them a trophy, especially when they give minimal effort or lose. Participation trophies are always under scrutiny by many different groups of people. Even with this huge stigma following them, the issue isn t usually covered by the media or debated on a large scale. That silence was broken when the Pittsburg Steelers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most common argument for participation trophies is that by giving the kids trophies for showing up and doing anything, it will keep kids interested in playing the game or coming to practice. Until everyone got a trophy for just showing up, they truly meant something. The definition of a trophy is as follows, something gained or given in victory or conquest especially when preserved or mounted as a memorial (Merriam Webster). When did trophies designed to be given as rewards for great victories become the means to get kids show up? Instead we should be giving them ice cream, cookies, or pizza as a reward for showing up. These would get them to participate but are small enough rewards that won t damage their understanding of the effort really needed to obtain the top ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Four Major Body Systems The human body works in complex way. Comparable to that of a well oiled machine, the slightest error or mistake can cause chaos to ones body. The mistakes made in essential body processes, such as homeostasis, can be especially catastrophic. The body systems, or specific categories that most processes in the body are attributed to, are what must be held to perfection. The major body systems each play a key role in helping to maintain the internal homeostasis of the body. To begin with, the four major body systems that deal with life systems, the respiratory, cardiovascular, and immune system, all play separate roles to maintain homeostasis. The respiratory systems function is to provide the body with oxygen so that it may use it in other purposes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The skeletal system, which deals with the body s support and structure, keeps homeostasis by regulating the calcium supply in the bones. By doing this, out bones stay as healthy and as strong as possible. The muscular system, which is attached to the skeletal system, deals with the body s movement. One way the muscular system maintains homeostasis is by sweating. If the body gets to hot and needs to cool down, it produces sweat which allows the skin cool down. Next, comes the endocrine system. This system is a collection of glands, which produce hormones to basically regulate a range of processes including sleep, sexual functions, growth and even development. It maintains homeostasis by making sure the correct amount of hormones are released, for example, if there is an insufficient amount, then more will be released and vice versa. This system works closely with the reproductive system. The reproductive system is the body s sex organs and helps in the reproduction of humans. It maintains its homeostasis in different ways for both men and women. For men, on cold days, the testes will retract so they are closer to the body to stay warm. On a hot day, the opposite happens. For women, the menstrual cycle is a carefully balanced system, which helps to regulate the times at which the body is most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Illegal Immigrants Cause High Unemployment in Califorina... California is one of the United States largest producers of agricultural goods. As a result, there has always been a demand for more labor to meet the quantity demanded. In order to fill the demand for labor, workers from Mexico or other countries south of the United States border crossed the border into California illegally, hoping to find work. In other cases, citizens from other countries will apply for visas in the United States and then overstay their visas. These workers become undocumented migrant workers, roaming from farm to farm, hoping that they can make enough money to send home. Farmers hire these workers and pay them illegally with cash. A recent report by Leon F. Bouvier states that Since 1979, legal immigrants have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, it can be inferred that perhaps undocumented migrant workers benefit California s economy more than they hurt the economy. There is an increasing number of undocumented immigrants, but field agents and census takers are unable to obtain a semi accurate count of how many undocumented immigrants actually exist in the United States. These immigrants often hide from government officials in order to avoid being caught, and subsequently being deported back to their home country. As they are also migrant workers and constantly move around the state from farm to farm, it is also difficult to try and formulate a number of how many illegal or undocumented immigrants reside in the state of California. (Immigrant and Migrant workers in the Santa Maria Valley, California 2) Therefore, it is difficult to estimate how many jobs the undocumented migrant workers have taken from legal citizens that are looking for work within California s agricultural sector. A report from the LA times published in 2010 estimates the number of undocumented immigrants residing within California at around 12 million. Although it is difficult to say whether or not all of these immigrants work in the agriculture sector, it is apparent that these immigrants have a large impact on California s economy. • 38. Persuasive Essay On Legalizing Abortion Abortion: the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. Throughout our lives we are constantly taking other people s opinions into consideration. We care more about what people think of us, rather than how we think of ourselves. In reality, the only opinion that matters is your own. Abortion has been legal since 1973. People have been arguing whether it should be legal or illegal ever since. Abortion should stay legalized for various reasons. A woman has rights, and these rights include what she gets to do with her body. The U.S. Supreme Court decided in favor of abortion rights during the case of Roe v. Wade on January 22, 1973. They stated that This right of privacy... is broad enough to encompass a woman s decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy. People argue that a baby is capable of feeling pain when it is killed. This is completely false.
