Intersubjectivity And Self Disclosure On The Age Of The...
Intersubjectivity and Self Disclosure in the Age of the Internet The subject of self disclosure has
become a popular point of debate and contention within the psychoanalytic literature. From the
conservative stance of traditional Freudian schools of thought to the more permissive stance of the
Relational school, the choice to self disclose and what content is permissible to disclose to patients has
been the subject of diverging viewpoints. As mediums of communication continue to evolve, self
disclosure has become a complicated issue, specifically as it concerns the Internet. The pervasive role
the Internet plays in the lives of many people and the ways in which effects patient analyst
communication have yet to be fully explored by analytic thinkers. As result, both the intentional and
unintentional opportunities for self disclosure via the Internet can be anxiety provoking for an analyst
to navigate. However, this paper proposes that an analysts and patient s presence on the Internet
underscores aspects of Intersubjectivity Theory, and that, when thought about intersubjectively, the
anxiety of internet self disclosure can be better managed and assuaged as compared to other
theoretical frames that largely rely on Cartesian, subject object working models. The psychoanalytic
theory of Intersubjectivity posits that psychoanalysis seeks to illuminate phenomena that emerge
within a specific psychological field constituted by the intersection of two subjectivities that of the

Characteristics Of Mercantilism
Mercantilism is a political and economical system that continued on the 16th to late 18th century. It
means that a country s economic power is related to the maintenance of a positive balance of trade.
That is, in order to remain economically and politically exist, a country most export more than it
imports. Such a positive balance of trade, according to mercantilist thought, causes the gold to surplus
in the country s treasury. So as to achieve these, international trade must be done. Key ideas of
mercantilism is that national wealth will came through the accumulation of gold or other precious
metals such as silver. They can be acquired by export. Raw materials were imported and final products
were exported to provide a positive balance of trade. Colonial possessions should serve as markets for
exports and as suppliers of raw materials ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These companies would sell foods and other consumer goods at high prices to make a profit from the

economy, this situation might be encountered. For that, companies can be regarded as mercantilist

Repairing the Problem with America s Transportation...
Repairing the Problem with America s Transportation System
There is a serious problem with our nation s roads and highways. I find myself repeatedly avoiding
trips to the city for this very reason, as I m sure many others do as well. This nerve wracking
congestion is even beginning to find its way into the suburbs and surrounding areas of large cities. It is
a serious problem that affects everyone who owns an automobile, as well as, businesses that are
dependent on reliable and convenient transportation. To top it all off, this problem is getting worse
every year. The population of this nation is growing, which translates to an increase in cars on the
road. More people are moving to cities and the suburbs that surround them, ... Show more content on

The Clinton administration proposed a plan called the National Economic Crossroads Efficiency Act,
or NEXTEA. I personally think they spent more time on the name of this act than on the actually
content of it. This plan will increase the amount of money in the Highway Trust Fund, yet reduce total
spending by $500 million. And the purpose of that is?????? you got me, I guess there isn?t a logical
one. The number of federal programs and non highway projects will also be increased, thus diverting
even more money away from are already under funded roads and highways (Fay 4).
Another pathetic attempt by the federal government was the 1991 transportation bill called the
Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act, yet more proof of Washington?s tremendous skill at
naming bills. But wait, this bill raised overall funding to record levels! Let?s examine it a little more
closely. It increased the number of non highway projects to be funded, including $30 million for a
moving sidewalk in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Now that makes me mad every time I think about it. A
moving sidewalk? In the end, this bill actually reduced the amount of money that was used for roads
and highways (Henderson 1). It is clear that Washington is not capable of or willing to handle our
transportation problems effectively.
My solution is to not let Washington ?screw? this problem up anymore and let the states and private
investors handle

How Did Copernicus Create A Paradigm Shift To A...
This paper analyzes the veracity of the fairly commonplace belief that Nicolaus Copernicus produced
a paradigm shift in the field of astronomy from the geocentric Ptolemaic model to his own heliocentric
model that resembles what contemporary astronomy deems as true. The starting point is the analysis
of the work put forth by Copernicus in contrast to his Ptolemaic predecessors and his heliocentric
successors. The framework for this analysis is the one suggested by Thomas Kuhn in his description
of a paradigm shift in the context of scientific development. The paper concludes that Copernicus
deserves a lot of credit for initiating the heliocentric paradigm shift, similar to the widespread
sentiment that his work revolutionized astronomy and produced a paradigm shift to a heliocentric
model, but not quite the same. His work retains a large number of elements from the Ptolemaic system
which prevented it from being a clear shift, but he does indeed challenge the geocentric and
geostationary (that the earth is at rest) assumptions in a move that threatens the core of the Ptolemaic
system. Nonetheless, his work did little more than argue from a position with weak ... Show more

Kuhn himself used the term rather loosely in his landmark book The Structure of Scientific
Revolutions , referring to either the laws and principles that govern scientific inquiry within a specific
field or just a collection of landmark works showcasing a common body of beliefs. Although one
could consider arguing that the Copernican revolution (but definitely not Copernicus himself) started
the shift away from deriving scientific knowledge from scripture and thus he started a paradigm shift
in the former sense, those implications are fairly removed from Copernicus himself. As such, arguing
whether he initiated a paradigm shift in the latter sense is a more meaningful

Chaim Potok s The Chosen Essay example
Chaim Potok s The Chosen
In the book The Chosen, by Chaim Potok, Reuven Malter is shaped by everyone around him. During
this interaction his character becomes more developed and engaging. Through the interactions, it
becomes apparent that Reuven s father is always teaching his child how to improve himself. The
conversations between Reuven and his father help prepare Reuven develop the mentality and the
personal qualities, such as wisdom, compassion, and tolerance, necessary to become a rabbi.
In all of their conversations, Mr. Malter seeks to pass his moral wisdom onto Reuven. At the

talking about certain current events, Mr. Malter begins to talk about his life. At the end of his speech
to Reuven, he says: A life filled with meaning is worthy of rest (217). In the speech Reuven s father
gives to him, he talks about how short life is. He says Reuven is growing up and it is time to think of
the future. The speech allows Reuven to understand his father s aging as well as realize that he himself
should live life to the fullest and do what he wishes. Giving his life a meaning and a purpose is
something Reuven needs to do to succeed in the future, and Mr. Malter tells him to follow his heart in
deciding occupations. Reuven s father uses his knowledge to give Reuven a new perspective on a life,
and to clear up uncertainty in his future.
Mr. Malter tries to teach his son understanding, compassion, and tolerance which are mandatory
qualities of rabbis. A good example of this lesson occurs after Reuven has gone with Danny to Danny
s synagogue and does not comprehend the actions of Danny s father and the tradition that took place.
When he comes home to his father late at night, his father tries to help him comprehend what he just
witnessed:
My father shook his head. It s not terrible, Reuven. Not for Danny, not for his father, and not for the
people who listened. It is an old tradition, this kind of Talmudic

Indian Removal Act Report
After the removal, Indians began to completely change their culture to live as an American culture.
Schools were created and they had their own newspapers as well as their own governments (Peppas
2013, page 41). They wore the same clothes as Americans (Indian Affairs). Throughout the years, they
have been able to create their own governments and were recognized by the American government.
The Indians had every reason not to trust Americans after all they went through being constantly
pushed off their land. They were always seen as two separate groups and Americans have treated the
Indians as less than them until recently. The government began to see that the way the Indians were
treated was wrong and should have never been forced to move. There was never an official apology
for the Indian Removal Act and treatment until 2009, when President Barack Obama signed the Native
American Apology Resolution into law (Peppas 2013, page 43). This was to improve the relationship

Our Lady Of Guadalupe Summary
Our Lady of Guadalupe is one of the most popular sacred icons in the hemisphere. Elizondo considers
Our Lady of Guadalupe as an American Gospel. This reading tells about the first time Elizondo visited
the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe at Tepeyac in Mexico City, the enforcement of Spanish rule of
Mexico s Aztec Empire, and the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe to Juan Diego.
When Elizondo finally arrived at Tepeyac he felt like everything was sort of in slow motion and every
one moved as a procession up to see the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He felt like her image
seemed to be moving toward him rather than him moving toward it. He described it as a core moment
of his life. The appreciation of Our Lady of Guadalupe can only ... Show more content on

She is not unapproachable; she is friendly, warm, and kind. How she speaks with affection and sounds
like she has known Juan Diego his whole life. Juan was not afraid of Guadalupe when she called his
name even though he had never seen or met her before. Our Lady of Guadalupe respects him even
though he is of the lowest class and she is obviously greater than any of the classes. Meeting Our Lady
of Guadalupe changed everything for Juan Diego. He saw things with a more positive attitude; he
looks for the beauty in everything. Juan has a new purpose in life due to meeting her. The apparition
of Our Lady of Guadalupe will tell the people more about church and God than what they had
guessed. She, like Jesus, is absolute human but also absolutely divine. The greatest thing about the
apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe to the natives was the fact that she was not some statue or
image, she was a person that looked like the natives, spoke their language, and her appearance was
breath taking. Guadalupe is seen as an equal and it is so important that her apparition was just a

This campaign was executed perfectly because of the way it made people want to forward the video to
other people within their social network. Perception of content quality within a video is based off three
things control, inclusion, and affection (Southgate, 102). The KONY 2012 video posses all of these
traits mainly focusing on inclusion and affection in a way that makes the user feel as if they are part of
something bigger and want to share this message with his or her peers. Quality perception can also be
broken down into two categories: content quality perception and content empathy perception
(Southgate,102). KONY 2012 most certainly falls under the content quality perception because of the
intent in which people decided to share it with was to provoke strong feelings to the recipient, while
empathy is forwarding a video with the expectation of feedback from the recipient. Other campaigns
such as Old Spice s YouTube video campaign that portrayed actor Isaiah Mustafa an over dramatized

Propaganda Used In 1984
1984, a book written by George Orwell provides an inside look to the future of a perfect totalitarian
society. In this picture perfect society Big Brother is the face of the Party. To the citizens of Oceania
he is the leader of the nation and the head of the political group. When it comes to a successful leader,
his regime is a strong structure that wins the approval of the nation. Big Brother is a great example in
this case as he is almost spoken of as a god. As well as Big Brother, Infamous Iraq leader Saddam
Hussein was another high powered head. Hussein also constructed a strong regime that was fairly
similar to Big Brothers. The key connections these two individuals have in their regimes are their

Both Big Brother and Saddam Hussein used propaganda in very effective ways. They used advertising
in a way that made them look superior to every other human being. In 1984, Big Brother s propaganda
was a type of comforting reassurance. His propaganda encouraged people to follow him as a leader.
However it was also effective since it was designed to overwhelm the mind s capacity for independent
thought. The giant screen in every citizen s work and home blasted a constant stream of propaganda.
Everywhere they would go, citizens were continuously reminded that BIG BROTHER IS
WATCHING YOU, This led individuals to believe that Big Brother was closer to some type of god.
Big Brother also used Oceania s nation Eurasia to attract citizens. In comparison to this method,
Saddam Hussein used his propaganda to have the nation of Iraq favor him over others. As well as Big
Brother, Hussein used rival nations in his propaganda to attract citizens. He down played countries
such as the US in order to gain the support of other Arab countries. However, as well as Hussein s
attempts to rope in the support of others he also frightened citizens into following him as a leader. He
did this by showcases events such as public hanging or embarrassment. This can be seen as
propaganda focused towards citizens with opposing thought. The different methods of propaganda

Persuasive Essay On Ocean Pollution
Throughout many decades there has been a huge environmental problem, not only putting marine life
at risk but also human health. Ocean pollution is a big threat to the habitat and still today we haven t
stopped throwing trash, chemicals or toxins into the oceans. During the 1940 s, a technical service of
the Army dumped a lot of chemical warfare into the sea, believing the type of gas will dissolve in the
water becoming harmless in minutes. At that time, fishermen were able to catch a lot of fish, it wasn t
until they were out of luck and all they could see were dead fish floating on the surface. Many people
think that oil spills and trash are the only types of ocean pollution, but they re also forgetting about
chemical, bacterial and thermal pollution. Polluted seas can be the cause of many diseases or
infections, especially if people don t take big measures like telling their kids not to accidentally drink
water from rivers or lakes when swimming. Marine animals are a big part of our food chain if they
carry diseases or toxins we re also in big danger. Today, there have been many people who have been
trying to stop others from polluting the oceans, but they still haven t been able to convince the whole
world to end ocean pollution. The government, instead of wasting money on unnecessary things like
building walls or building more towers and creating more trash they should build trash contractors that
will help with the trash floating around in the seas. There are

They d be passing within the next 5 minutes.
He focussed upon the ground of the ahead of him and began counting the bricks. One, two, three,
four...he stopped at the fifth, crouched down, and retrieved a small spatula from his jacket. He pried
the fifth brick out of the ground, about half an inch; just enough so that it would catch the foot of the
intended target. Jack stood up once more, glancing down at the dislodged brick. It looked about right,
as if it would fulfil its intended purpose effectively. Perhaps it wasn t quite as covert as he tended to
prefer, but he was sure it was good enough to handle the task required of it.
Jack unzipped the duffle bag he d brought with him. Inside, a small metal rake lay alone in the main
compartment. He used it in several of his visions, Both as a weapon and as a prop. Whilst the heads on
approach would certainly have been more satisfying for Jack, it often resulted in injury or death on his
part within his visions. Thus, he much preferred the odds of its usage as a prop, even if that meant
making the occasion somewhat less fun .
He hurried back over to the dislodged brick and placed the rake exactly five bricks away, before
observing his setup once more. He internally counted out the bricks upon which the handle of the rake

There is also intracellular digestion and extracellular digestion. Intracellular digestion is the breaking

digestion is when food breaks down into utile molecules that are then internalised by cells. This is
done in the extracellular space where cells secrete substances that break large molecules into smaller

The Pros And Cons Of Reconstruction After The End Of The...
Reconstruction began early in 1865 after the end of the civil war when the South was undergoing
political, social and economic upheavals (Foner 15). The South embraced Union methods of total wars
that led to damage to their land and crops. As a result, many people died while others were captured as
slaves due to the huge drought and inflation facing their state, while their masters fled oncoming
unions. From these losses, policymakers by 1865 in Washington had no other choice rather than
reconstruction. Reconstruction involved several initiatives including abolishment and transformation
of the Southern society, recovering the Southern Unions and most importantly the enactment of an
assimilation legislation program that would aid in favoring the freed blacks into the American social
and economic system. President Lincoln had pardoned reconstruction of the South long before in1863
two years before the war ended (Kennedy and Cohen 44). This was known as the ten percent plan that
supported one of the initiatives. This plan allowed the Southern state to be assimilated to the union
after every ten percent of the population. Later in the year 1865 president Lincoln got assassinated and
Andrew Johnson succeeded him. President Johnson carried on with the ten percent plan. Both
presidents shared a similar interest during their reign which was to abolish slavery before joining the
union.
The radical republic congress as well admitted that the Southern States had to be transformed fully

Analysis Of The Secret Life Of Bees By Sue Monk Kidd
The Secret Life Of Bees, written by Sue Monk Kidd, should be considered a classic because of its
unique way of relating the characters and the story line to the reader s emotions and to history. In The
Secret Life Of Bees and all books descriptive detail and skillful writing is crucial. The principle reason
this story is a classic is because of how Sue Monk Kidd was able to use a metaphor throughout the
entire story. Bees represent society and life and without help from other bees and the queen bee, the
hive dies an incredible and unique way to show the readers the importance of appreciating life.
Classics need numerous features to be considered one of the highest quality, and The Secret Life Of

The Secret Life Of Bees should be considered a classic. It says ¨... uniquely suited to helping us to the
rhythms and habits of daily life...¨ , just like Italo Calvino said classics need to have a way of
influencing and relating to readers, this article says it is necessary for classics to be able to teach
readers something by bringing them into the story. The passage I recognized those ideas in the novel
of The Secret Life Of Bees was when August and Lily were taking care of the bees. That section of the

Calvino and Nelson Lowhim both agree in saying classics have to teach the reader something and
there has to be a moral to the story. In The Secret Life Of Bees , many bits of the book had the ability

Similarities Between The Balloon And The Red Balloon
GEORGETA HARPAD
ESL 101
JOBST
Love and Friendship
Stopping for a few seconds to admire a flower, an insect, a phenomenon of nature, an architecture,
etc., in days full of worries, have become memorable. Also, all these seconds sent me every time into a
wonderful world, just like Confucius said, Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it . The
short films The Balloon directed by Martynas Zaremba and The Red Balloon directed by Albert
Lamorisse have the plot people s reaction for a few seconds at sight of a black balloon. The Balloon
film submits a series of reactions from various people in the city caused by a simple black balloon
with no intended meaning. The balloon starts to appear above the city one night while people were
sleeping. The Red Balloon , too shows an emotional story of friendship between a boy called Pascal,
and his red balloon. The writer and director Lamorisse succeeds through fiction to combine reality, the
wonder, and the magic of this friendship. In both short films, the main focus is a floating balloon, but I
believe that their differences are more striking than their similarities. Both films The Balloon and The
Red Balloon have a similar high point. In my opinion The Balloon high point is that when the balloon
appears on a street where a bad boy with a knife in his hand is ready to commit an act of violence. The
presence of the balloon in that area stops the bad boy to commit it. Moreover, the bad boy looks his
way to sky to admire the balloon for a few seconds. Likewise, the balloon from Lamorisse s film
avoid an act of violence. For example, a gang of older kids chases Pascal around city, determined to
steal and destroy his balloon. The red balloon performs a miracle, it saves little Pascal from that chase.
It sacrifices itself and lets itself tortured with stones to save Pascal s life. Furthermore, the red balloon
dies for this cause. However, in three distinct ways, The Balloon and The Red Balloon films are

Use of Force
Use of Force One night, a small town patrol officer stops a car driven by two teenagers. The officer
believes that one of them might be responsible for a string of recent burglaries. The teens are
questioned, and the officer becomes angry at their responses. Over the objections of the teenagers,
both teens are pulled out of the car and shoved around a little. They are both told that they are under
arrest and the officer begins to place handcuffs on them. Both fight back and both are beaten badly
(Bruno, 2010). The question is what legal recourse is available to the families of the teens if any? Let

Now that I have discussed the use of force and whether it is excessive or not I will begin to answer the
original question posed. Does the family of the teens have any legal recourse available to them, and if
so what is available to them? The answer to this is yes the families definitely have legal recourse
available to them for a number of reasons. The first mistake the officers made was pulling over the
teens because they thought they might have been involved in a recent string of burglaries. That right
there is a violation of the teens Fourth Amendment to have probable cause to stop them in the first
place. Police officers have to have probable cause or more than a hunch to pull someone over. The
scenario said nothing about the car was pulled over because maybe a witness saw the car leaving the
scene of the crime, or maybe the officer had a description of the suspect and they matched it, he just
thought they might be involved. Secondly, they did question the teens and because of their responses
the officer becomes angry and pulls the teens out of the car. The officer had no right to pull the teens
out of the car because of what they said.

For the Texans in the tejanos, that were born in mexico, in San Antonio that didn t volunteer might be

For a Anglo soldier defending the Alamo might be happy since they got their independence and maybe
ready for the battle.
For the general Santa Ana might be angry since he wanted Texans to be punished since they didn t
follow things from Mexico, and now he wants to win the battle.

Micro Suites As A Solution To Vancouver’S Housing Problem.
Micro Suites as a Solution to Vancouver s Housing Problem Bienvenue à Vancouver, where people
meet unrealistic housing and living costs. It is no secret that Vancouver s housing issue is blowing out
of proportion due to the demand for more affordable housing units. The problem is not a question of
production, but the type of housing that is being supplied (Gold, 2016). However, this would take a
great deal of time and nationwide discussion amongst lawmakers and the government to solve. While
the nation is busy talking about the housing problem of Vancouver, some developers and innovators
propose to adopt the idea of micro suites to help solve the issue. Micro suites, micro apartments, micro

This may be a reflection of how designers have shaped spaces to meet how people nowadays live.
According to the City of Vancouver s zoning and development by law, no more than one person shall
occupy a micro dwelling and it must have a floor area of at least 29.7 sq. m. or 319.69 sq. ft. Because
of these numbers mandated by the City of Vancouver, Vancouverites are not expected to be
experiencing to live in smaller conditions. However, places like Japan, Hong Kong, New York and
San Francisco have micro dwelling units smaller than 320 sq. ft, which shows that there are people
who are willing to live the micro life and make the community around them into their extended space.
According to Sam Baron, 29, who has lived in a 248 sq. ft. space for two years, states that the space
was comfortable, functional, and allowed him central access between his work and school (Bellett,
2015). However, some studies show that there are dangers in living in a confined space and how micro
living is really not for everyone. Developers, in theory, design and build these homes to market to the
single young professionals who spend most of their day outside of their homes. This is assuming a sort
of stress free, constantly healthy young person. Someone who loses their job or is ill, or breaks up

The Character of Don John in Much Ado About Nothing Essay
In the play Much ado about nothing , Don John is a puppet whose strings are pulled by various
characters and the society in which he lives. Although he does monkey businesses like every character
in the play, he is the one who gets harshly judged and punished for it. His villainy is not an innate trait
but rather, he chooses it to distinguish him from others. Don John is the illegitimate half brother of
Don Pedro in the play. Don Pedro is the Prince of Aragon and is highly respected throughout the play,
whereas Don John is treated with cautious attention and indifference. In Act one scene three, Leonato

He even says that he prefers being hated rather than people feigning their emotions, because of his

identification within the play, as he is a bastard born. His birth status automatically makes him
untrustworthy, I am trusted with a muzzle, and enfranchised with a clog. Therefore I have decreed not
to sing in my cage. If I had my mouth I would bite (1.3.2 28), and a villain without meaning to, so he s

as they are the only ones who seem to have faith in him. In the beginning, when Don John asks them
You are both sure and will assist me? Conrad replies To the death, my lord (1.3.54 55). That line pretty
much seals the deal and Don John makes them his confidantes. This is also because the rest of the
society doesn t trust him because of his illegitimacy and self proclamation of being a villain. When
Borachio comes with the news of an approaching marriage, Don John plans to create mischief for the

Why Is Memorial Important
Memorials and monuments are important because they offer a method of recognizing and celebrating
notable figures achievements. There are more complications when constructing memorials and
monuments than people think. Agencies that construct memorials need to take into account the
demands of various people in order to satisfy their concerns. Once the agencies can establish a plan
for a monument that has a neutral position, then they should begin to create them. Agencies should
think about the significance, controversy, location, and the emotional connection when constructing a
monument or memorial. Foremost, the significance of a monument is an important element. The
agencies responsible for making the memorials need to question the story behind the monument to

It is worth recognizing Lincoln for his achievement in ending the American Civil War and outlawing
slavery in the United States. Through the statue the feeling of authority and greatness is conveyed to
the audience who stands before it and reads the text of the two speeches. While it can be easy to read
Lincoln s most famous speech in a history textbook, the experience of seeing the actual monument
itself is much more powerful. The significance of the statues need to matter to people or else there is
no point in celebrating the the person or thing who was made into a monument. Similar to the Lincoln
Memorial, the Statue of Liberty s significance is of importance. The Statue of Liberty represents the
idea of freedom and democracy which is what the United States values greatly. When the Statue of
Liberty was designed the architects wanted to create a symbol for the United States that would
embody freedom. Through the use of the depiction of the Roman goddess Libertas they were able to
accomplish that. The meaning has to be taken into account, if not the memorial can become like The

Altruism Is Unique In The World Of Animals
Altruism is the practice of selfless concern for the well being of others, or the behavior of an animal
that benefits another at its own expense. Evidence shows that the act of altruism is unique in the world
of animals. The interaction between those who are selfish and those who are altruistic is vital to
human cooperation. A small group of altruistic people can give enough motivation to a large number
of egotistical to move a mountain. Just as a large number of selfish people could push a small group of
charitable people to change the world. It is the interaction between both that make this world go

Survival of the fittest is a concept that is widely known across the idea of evolution. The study done
by Haldane concluded that genetic altruism would show some advances in population numbers, which
is overall increasing the spread of genes. The increased number of altruistic individuals in the society
would overall increase the group fitness, or number of genes spread due to the group benefitting
behavior. Altruism can be known for the cause of all charitable behavior, but there is the argument that
all charity is directly tied in with egoism. This happens when a person taking part in the charity helps
with the idea that someday his own self will be in need of the same charity. This concludes that all
altruistic events make just be a part of a long cycle of egoism. If so, then altruistic people are
essentially just an egoist in a twisted way. The world overall is a selfish, conceit place. Some say that
charitable work, also known as altruistic behavior is all part of a social contract. If the egoist breaks
the contract in any way, then there is a change that another person in the future will also break the
contract. Maybe that time the contract is broken it will be the egoist who needs the help and will not
receive it. It is all a vicious cycle that ends up revolving around one s own self interests (Hammond

Once shareholders became drawn to stocks because everyone else was buying, realistic valuations of
stocks based on their earnings potential got crowded out by what Greenspan characterized in 1996 as
‘irrational exuberance . This kind of bull market is typically fuelled by cheap money and lots of debt.
The low interest policy pursued by the Fed in the wake of the Asian crisis in 1997–99 induced many
investors to take out broker loans for additional stock purchases. With shares serving as collateral for
those loans, rising stock prices enhanced the borrowing capacity of investors and so became a funding
machine for the bull market. In addition, many firms took out a lot of debt to buy back their shares and
so counter the dilution of stock ownership brought about by the extensive use of stock options as a
new form of employee compensation. It is this interaction between debt and asset inflation which
turns a reasonably bullish stock market into a speculative bubble.
Such a bubble is, however, unsustainable. It will burst when the rosy expectations about future profits
underlying those sky high stock market valuations turn out to have been unrealistic. As market
sentiments shift and disappointed investors try to cash in their capital gains, selling waves ensue to
push stock prices rapidly lower. Pressured by high levels of indebtedness in the face of declining asset
values and mounting capital losses, investors rush to liquidate their

How Does Collins Present Capitalism In The Hunger Games
Suzanne Collins dystopian novel The Hunger Games, published in 2008, portrayed a post apocalyptic
Northern America, in the hedonistic nation of Panem. The Hunger Games were an annually televised
event in which the governing body, The Capitol , appointed two tributes from each impoverished
district. Twenty four children were in opposition of each other and were forced to compete for their
survival. The novel concentrated on the link between the contemporary society to an enhanced
adapted dystopian nation. This was achieved by using allegory and opinionated descriptions of the
identifiable problems of systems and ideas gone astray. Collins raised many questions in the
concerning themes of The Hunger Games on the negative future development of Panem. This included
capitalism resulting in income equality, questioning the humanity of the games and merging
entertainment with sacrifice on reality TV. The Hunger Games, presented a variety of issues that were
interpreted in various ways. The novel presented capitalism as an economic system that derailed into
forms of exploitation. Capitalism was displayed in The Hunger Games as the Capitol controlled the
trade and industry of the nation. Instead of capitalism as it was not considered a free market the
economy was reliant on comparative advantage and exploitation, in turn, creating income inequality.
This was due to the governing body treating the districts unfairly in order to benefit from their work.

The Life of Spanish Baroque Painter Martolome Esteban Murillo
On January 1st, 1618, Bartolome Esteban Murillo was born in Seville Spain. Murillo was the most
famous Spanish Baroque painter of his time, known for his religious works.
Murillo was the youngest of fourteen children, born to Gaspar Esteban, a barber, and María Perez .
Murillo gained his surname from a traditional Andalusian custom, taking the name of his grandmother,
Elvira Murillo. In 1627, Murillo s father passed away, and his mother died a year later. Murillo was an
orphan at ten years old, and was sent to live with his older sister and her husband.
Murillo was exposed to the art world from a young age. His uncle was a painter, who married the

Even despite this, the 1660 s were the busiest in Murillo s entire career. His portraits from this time are
some of his best,.
In 1680, Murillo was commissioned to paint the main altarpiece for the Capuchins church in Cádiz.
This was an incredible honor. While working up on a scaffold, Murillo fell and died soon after.
During his lifetime, Murillo left an incredible art legacy. His style has similarities from his teacher,
and Zurbarán, the most popular painter in Seville before himself. In his early years, Murillo painted in
the style known as Chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is a style with strong contrast between light and dark.
Murillo used a lot of lighting techniques he learned from Zurbaran, but Murillo s works were lighter
and softer than Zurbaran. Overtime, Murillo stopped painting in Chiaroscuro, and his style evolved to
be lighter and more like the style of Federico Barocci. His trip to Madrid further changed his style,
encouraging him to use thick brushstrokes, warm tones, highlights, and richer color. In Murillo s late
life, his style changed again. Murillo used looser brush strokes, and sober colors. It is said that his
work during this time in his life was vaporous and more refined.
One of his more famous paintings is called The Young Beggar and is on display at the Musée du
Louvre, in Paris, France. This painting shows a sad beggar boy sitting alone on a street

There were a lot of factors which affected women s employment in Britain in the 1950s and 1960s
such as social attitudes towards the family. Many people were traditional and saw women who worked
to be selfish and neglecting their responsibilities in the home. Many working class women could not
afford child minders and therefore relied on family and friends. Also, nursery education was expensive
thus only an option for wealthier families. Women also had limited education; with limited
educational opportunities for girl s women were restricted to lower paid employment as they required
fewer skills. In the 1960s only 15% of doctors and 5% of the law profession were women and 80% of
all factories, secretarial and shop work was done by women. There was also lack of government
legalisation. Employers were reluctant to appoint women to responsible positions as they thought they
would get married and leave. Also when women had the same job as men they were often paid lower.
Employers argued that many women returning to work will work less hours and want a lot of time off

A Defense Of Abortion By Judith Jarvis Thomson
Abortion is a major issue that has lead to many different opinions, ideas, and various debates.
Proponents for abortion often use the fact that a fetus is not a moral person to justify their position,
whereas those who are against the issue often claim that a fetus is a moral person and should deserve
every right a moral person has, including the right to live. Judith Jarvis Thomson, however, takes an
entirely different approach. In her article A Defense of Abortion Thomson argues that even if a fetus is
considered to be a human being does not automatically ensure it the right to live. Thomson s position
leads to many oppositions and critiques. Foot s article, for example, Killing versus Letting Die
attempts to point out the flaws in Thomson s argument. Foot claims that a fetus status must be
considered when addressing the issue of abortion and that Thomson s argument is invalid. Although
Thomson s argument may seem valid at first, Foot does offer considerable evidence critiquing the
validity of Thomson s argument. One of the main issues Foot has with Thomson s argument is the
analogy her paper consistently relies on to relay her position. In the analogy, a person is kidnapped
and placed in a kidney machine that is connected to an ill violinist, who is in desperate need of a
functioning kidney. With that analogy, Thomson argues that an individual s right to agency trumps
over another person s right to life if that person has to depend on and is a burden to the

A community credit union is a financial cooperative operating to lend money to its members. The
constituents of a mutual organization put money into a collective, where it may then be disbursed to
members in need of loans, at agreeable rates and with good terms. By eliminating the need to turn a
profit, mutual organizations are able to give lower rates on loans than traditional banking
organizations. The sub prime lenders are considered, in some instances, as a last resort since they tend
to give loans to people with a very low credit scores or an otherwise extremely high risk of default.
This type of lender offers loans at exorbitant interest rates as a way of covering losses from the high

Study on Delhi
The lack of standard concepts in research is perhaps the most significant difficulty in the comparison
of results between studies.[1] In the running injury field, many researchers have noted the problem of
how to define a running related injury.[2 4] Some investigators have suggested the need for a
standardised definition of running related injury.[2, 5 7] However, a consensus has not yet been
reached; thus, researchers have used different definitions in their studies.[3, 8, 9]
Currently, the rates of prevalence and incidence of running injuries vary between 19% and 92%,
depending on the injury definition adopted in the study. This means that the lack of standardisation of
injury definitions may affect study results.[2, 3, 5, 9 15] For instance, Bovens, et al. [16] used a broad
definition of running related injury as any physical complaint developed in relation with running
activities and causing restriction in running distance, speed, duration or frequency ; they found an
injury incidence of 84.9%. On the other hand, Blair, et al. [17] adopted a more stringent definition of
running related injury as an injury that causes the runners to stop running for at least seven days ; they
found a lower injury incidence of 24%. The higher rate of injury found in the first study may be due to
the lack of a specific period of interruption or time off from running in the definition used, in contrast
to the definition used in the second study, which clearly specifies the period of

Descartes Meditations On First Philosophy
Descartes uses the dream experience and the idea of an evil genius to explain that our senses can
deceive us. Descartes explains that there is systematic doubt meaning our sense experiences such as
sight, smell, touch, taste, and hear can deceive us. However, Descartes explains how sight (vision) can
deceive us, such as our dreams. Descartes goes in deeper to explain his dream theory in the First
Mediation in the Meditations on First Philosophy by saying that there isn t a way for us to determine
whether the experiences in our dreams from those experiences when we are awake because they are
real that they are able to deceive us. This is because while we are dreaming, we usually are not aware
that we are dreaming. For example, dreams can deceive us by experiencing a visual sensation.
Imagine while you are dreaming of being fully clothes with a shirt, pants, and shoes. Descartes
explains the visual sensation of our dreams must have had influence from outside objects and that
those objects in our dreams do exist in the outside world. So, even though our dreams may look real it
is false. The main question comes into play, How do we know if we re not dreaming now? we don t he

Sympathy In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
In Truman Capote s novel based upon non fictional events, In Cold Blood the reader is set up to feel
remorseful for the murderers in the text. The same set of feelings are bestowed upon the viewers in the
movie Capote directed by Bennett Miller. The novel is based around the story of the 1959 Clutter
family murder in the community of Holcomb, Kansas. The film adaptation is more structured around
the life of Truman Capote (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) throughout the time he was creating In Cold
Blood; therefore, more behind the scenes analysis took place even though the film is fictional.
Sympathy drags in the spectator of a text or film much greater than any other emotion. It creates a
personal bond between the characters being depicted and themselves. This bond of sympathy can
become even greater when it is known that the characters being bonded to the spectator are based
upon real people and their events. Sympathy is built by Truman Capote through characterization and
imagery while Bennett Miller builds sympathy through clever screenwriting and casting the correct
personalities. While Dick Hickock (Mark Pellegrino) and Perry Smith (Clifton Collins Jr.) were brutal
murderers, their notoriety brought in so much fear that more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

How Does The Use Of Culture Affect Emily Bronte s Character
As the novel Wuthering Heights progresses, Emily Bronte develops much of the story through the
characters. Bronte s use of culture, geographical, and physical surroundings, manipulate the characters
psychological and moral standings. Especially apparent in Catherine, Emily Bronte s use of culture
and physical surroundings creates a psychological split within Catherine s character. From the
beginning of the novel, Bronte establishes a cultural paradox that directly reflects Catherine s
personality; the ambiance of Wuthering Heights as opposed to Thrushcross Grange. Wuthering
Heights being wild and passionate in nature, yet Thrushcross Grange eloquent and publicly
sophisticated. Through the novel we see Catherine s character constantly at battle with these wild and
eloquent sides. Bronte emphasizes this when she acts violently towards Edgar after she has argued

The Themes Of Fate And Fate In Oedipus The King
Destiny and fate both play a similar role in this play. These are two crucial themes that are central to
the play; they have a devastating impact on the story line and unleash terror on the characters. Fate is
one of the opposition elements of the play that is influenced by one s own action but ultimately is
dictated by events beyond anybody s control. By elevating the importance of fate, Sophocles suggests
that characters cannot be fully responsible for their actions, but instead, they are unaware that their
destiny is controlled by a supreme power. These two main themes cause tragedy and despair to many
characters, however, the most affected one is King Oedipus.

His destiny decided by the God s is particularly cruel and pitiless since the oracle of Delphi decided
that his fate was to kill his father and marry his mother. An ancient Greek audience would accept the
wisdom of the gods. However, Sophocles skill as a playwright is to challenge the ancient Greek
received wisdom: even though Oedipus ought to accept his destiny because of some heinous sin
committed by his forefathers, he inspires sympathy in the audience by using dramatic irony. Oedipus
dire warning as he imposes on himself the penalty of exile: severe sentence // will be exile shows the
reader that Oedipus is ignorant of the fact that he is the guilty one and that therefore he is
inadvertently condemning his own future and his own life. Also, the quotation I curse him is another
example of dramatic irony since the King is unaware that he is cursing himself and consequently,
putting at risk and at danger his own future. This again shows the strength of the God s who are able
to arrange and decide people s destiny. Later on the play, the audience discover him as being blind
since he does not manage to see the truth about himself. Therefore, this makes him exposed and
vulnerable to his unknown and unwanted devastating destiny. Sophocles uses the quote: For blind of

Analysis Of Small Steps
Author Style To start off, Louis Sachar writes in many different styles in the different books he writes.
There are many different books that he has written and has gotten many awards. Sachar won the
Newbery Medal for one of his top selling books, called Holes. Another book that he is written is called
Small Steps. Small Steps is about how you have one thing at a time in life and not do so many things
at once. In the book Small Steps, Louis Sachar uses figurative language, conflict to help keep the
reader engaged, and uses the same character s name in multiple of his books as his writing style. One
style that Louis Sachar uses in the book Small Steps is conflict. Conflict is a struggle between
opposing forces or when two characters in a story get in a fist fight or just a fight over a conversation.
In the book Small Steps, an example of conflict is on page 217, She picked up her cup and tossed the
contents at him, splattering him with coffee and cream. Kira got mad at Armpit because Armpit said
that Kira should consider another profession besides singing and Kira was really upset that Armpit
said that. Kira tossed the cup of coffee at him while everyone in the store stared at Armpit with coffee
all over his shirt. This relates to the author s style because Sachar likes to use a lot conflict in his
books to keep the reader engaged. Another example of conflict in the book Small Steps is on page
199, Moses whacked him on the side of his head. X Ray gets hit on the side of his head very hard by
Moses, who is a man who wants the counterfeit tickets that X Ray has. X Ray s glasses broke, and his
tickets were stolen by Moses, while X Ray lay on the floor after he got punched in the face. Sachar
uses a lot of conflict in the books he writes. In addition to conflict, another style that Louis Sachar
uses in his books, especially Small Steps and Holes, is figurative language. Figurative language is a
language that uses words of expressions with a meaning that is different from the literal interpretation.
It also uses exaggerations or alterations to make a linguistic point. An example of figurative language

Comparison Of Lewis And Clark Expedition
The expeditions of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark of the newly purchased Louisiana Territory
radically shaped American scientific knowledge as well as relationships with Indians. The framework
for their expedition was laid far before they first set sail from the mouth of the Missouri River is 1804.
In 1801, France reacquired its North American Louisiana territory from Spain after a series of secret
deals with Spain brokered by French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Almost immediately, US trade at
the port of New Orleans was blocked, enraging many Americans. Realizing that this presented a
bottleneck on US expansion and trade, president Thomas Jefferson sent his Secretary of State, James
Monroe, to Paris to discuss the possibility of purchasing the territory. ... Show more content on

This territory nearly doubled the size of the US, extending it to the Rocky Mountains. Shortly after the
approval for the purchase of the territory came the approval for the creation of a group known as the
Corps of Discovery. This company would have the responsibility (and support of the government) to
create maps and establish diplomacy with the Indians of the new territory, all of these activities had
the purpose of not only discovering more about the unfamiliar new lands, but also allowing for new
trade, and thus, economic growth. Jefferson decided to put his personal secretary, Meriwether Lewis,
in charge of the Corps of Discovery. As his first action, Lewis chose his former military officer, and
close friend, William Clark, to aid him in leading the journey, thus giving birth to the legendary duo,
Lewis and

Humber North Case Study
Daily Parking
Introduction and Background
Humber College North Campus, a home to over 19,000 people and residence to 1,000 students, have
decided to expand its premises by building a new building. In doing so they plan on bringing in more
students both residential and international, thus increasing the surplus population of its school. We
have noticed that while doing so they have decreased the space of parking for both staff and students.
If parking spaces are limited to the members of this school now, how do they plan on bringing in more
people, who will be coming in from all over the world?
Parking at Humber College is next to impossible. With 10 minutes left to the start of class starts you
are guaranteed to be late. There are approximately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, only 32 members participated in the survey, many either did not drive or had no
interest in participating. Figure 1 shows the percentage of students, professors, security, and other
faculty individuals who partook in the survey.
Conclusions
Based on the results from the Humber North s Parking Survey from the individuals of Humber
College North campus, the following conclusions were obtained:
Most of the members, students in particular, do not drive to school, they either get a ride, carpool, or
take public transit.
87% of the surveyors agreed that something needs to be done about the parking situation at Humber
North, because 64% of them find themselves arriving early, for it takes them on average 10 minutes to
find parking.
86% agreed that separate parking was in order, it is considered that it would be less of a hassle if the
staff and students did not mix in the parking lot.

France Is A Country With A Long And Proud History
France
Jesse E. Oliver
13B30 Advanced Leader Course Class 503 17
France is a country with a long and proud history. Sitting in the heart of Europe France is a large and
influential country, the center of agriculture in Europe while also having a strong and diverse
industrial base. Historically The French Republic, as it is officially known, has been seen as standard
bearer of western secular liberalism, a stance that at times marks the French people as targets for
religious and secular extremists alike.
France lies near the western end of the great Eurasian landmass, largely between latitudes 42° and 51°
N. Roughly hexagonal in outline, its continental territory is bordered on the northeast by Belgium and

deregulation of banks and is a part the French accepting the move towards a single European market
and an interest in investing in other advanced countries such as Germany and the United States of
America. French investors have historically preferred to invest in the fields of chemicals, electronics,
and engineering, focusing on investments to improve urban lifestyles. Trade is also an important part
of the French GDP accounting for a fifth of the GDP is primarily grain and other agricultural concerns.

With the shift to what the French consider to be more advanced pursuits there has been a dramatic
drop in mining and smelting across the country. A country poor in mineral resources, France now
relies primarily on importing to meet their energy demands with the exception of Uranium which the
French still mine. Most of these power plants are located in the Rhône and Loire valleys, a reflection
of the need for large quantities of cooling water. More than three fourths of electricity in France is
produced in nuclear plants, the highest proportion in the world. (https://www.britannica.com)

Finding The Absorbance Value And T % Of Cobalt
OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of the experiment was to find the absorbance value and T% of cobalt (II) nitrate solutions
at various wavelengths. Using Beer s law to determine the concentration of an unknown cobalt (II)
nitrate solution with the %T and A values of the known Cobalt (II) nitrate concentrations.
THEORY:
The purpose of this experiment is to find out if we can identify an unknown Cobalt (II) nitrate
concentration by using Calorimetry. Calorimetry involves the use of light to determine a specific
solute in solution (Sullivan 238).A given molecule absorbs particular frequencies of light and passes
others. If we are able to determine the degree in which various frequencies are absorbed, the
population or concentration of a given molecule in solution can be determined. In this experiment we
are trying to find out the visible spectrum of the known Cobalt (II) nitrate solution by using absorption
versus the wavelengths to determine the analytical wavelength. Once the analytical wavelength is
found we can use that to identify the unknown Cobalt (II) nitrate solution, by using the Beer s law.
Beer s Law is a direct liner relationship between the absorbance of light are a selected wavelength and
the concentration the absorbing species in the solution. (Sullivan 241). Beer s Law shows a
relationship between several concentrations. To determine if the determine our data consistent with
Beer s law, we will plot a graph of absorbance versus concentration with a linear regression

Republican Revolution Research Paper
The Republican Revolution, Revolution of 94 or Gingrich Revolution refers to the Republican Party
(GOP) success in the 1994 U.S. midterm elections,[1] which resulted in a net gain of 54 seats in the
House of Representatives, and a pickup of eight seats in the Senate. The day after the election,
conservative Democrat Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama changed parties, becoming a Republican.
The Democrats only picked up 4 seats in the House, all of which were open seats. No Republican
incumbents were defeated at any level. Rather than campaigning independently in each district,
Republican candidates chose to rally behind a single national program and message fronted by
Georgia congressman Newt Gingrich. They alleged President Bill Clinton was

  • 2. Intersubjectivity And Self Disclosure On The Age Of The... Intersubjectivity and Self Disclosure in the Age of the Internet The subject of self disclosure has become a popular point of debate and contention within the psychoanalytic literature. From the conservative stance of traditional Freudian schools of thought to the more permissive stance of the Relational school, the choice to self disclose and what content is permissible to disclose to patients has been the subject of diverging viewpoints. As mediums of communication continue to evolve, self disclosure has become a complicated issue, specifically as it concerns the Internet. The pervasive role the Internet plays in the lives of many people and the ways in which effects patient analyst communication have yet to be fully explored by analytic thinkers. As result, both the intentional and unintentional opportunities for self disclosure via the Internet can be anxiety provoking for an analyst to navigate. However, this paper proposes that an analysts and patient s presence on the Internet underscores aspects of Intersubjectivity Theory, and that, when thought about intersubjectively, the anxiety of internet self disclosure can be better managed and assuaged as compared to other theoretical frames that largely rely on Cartesian, subject object working models. The psychoanalytic theory of Intersubjectivity posits that psychoanalysis seeks to illuminate phenomena that emerge within a specific psychological field constituted by the intersection of two subjectivities that of the ... It means that a country s economic power is related to the maintenance of a positive balance of trade. That is, in order to remain economically and politically exist, a country most export more than it imports. Such a positive balance of trade, according to mercantilist thought, causes the gold to surplus in the country s treasury. So as to achieve these, international trade must be done. Key ideas of mercantilism is that national wealth will came through the accumulation of gold or other precious metals such as silver. They can be acquired by export. I find myself repeatedly avoiding trips to the city for this very reason, as I m sure many others do as well. This nerve wracking congestion is even beginning to find its way into the suburbs and surrounding areas of large cities. It is a serious problem that affects everyone who owns an automobile, as well as, businesses that are dependent on reliable and convenient transportation. To top it all off, this problem is getting worse every year. The population of this nation is growing, which translates to an increase in cars on the road. The number of federal programs and non highway projects will also be increased, thus diverting even more money away from are already under funded roads and highways (Fay 4). Another pathetic attempt by the federal government was the 1991 transportation bill called the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act, yet more proof of Washington?s tremendous skill at naming bills. But wait, this bill raised overall funding to record levels! Let?s examine it a little more closely. It increased the number of non highway projects to be funded, including $30 million for a moving sidewalk in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Now that makes me mad every time I think about it. A moving sidewalk? In the end, this bill actually reduced the amount of money that was used for roads and highways (Henderson 1). It is clear that Washington is not capable of or willing to handle our transportation problems effectively. My solution is to not let Washington ?screw? this problem up anymore and let the states and private investors handle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Did Copernicus Create A Paradigm Shift To A... This paper analyzes the veracity of the fairly commonplace belief that Nicolaus Copernicus produced a paradigm shift in the field of astronomy from the geocentric Ptolemaic model to his own heliocentric model that resembles what contemporary astronomy deems as true. The starting point is the analysis of the work put forth by Copernicus in contrast to his Ptolemaic predecessors and his heliocentric successors. The framework for this analysis is the one suggested by Thomas Kuhn in his description of a paradigm shift in the context of scientific development. The paper concludes that Copernicus deserves a lot of credit for initiating the heliocentric paradigm shift, similar to the widespread sentiment that his work revolutionized astronomy and produced a paradigm shift to a heliocentric model, but not quite the same. His work retains a large number of elements from the Ptolemaic system which prevented it from being a clear shift, but he does indeed challenge the geocentric and geostationary (that the earth is at rest) assumptions in a move that threatens the core of the Ptolemaic system. Nonetheless, his work did little more than argue from a position with weak ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kuhn himself used the term rather loosely in his landmark book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions , referring to either the laws and principles that govern scientific inquiry within a specific field or just a collection of landmark works showcasing a common body of beliefs. As such, arguing whether he initiated a paradigm shift in the latter sense is a more meaningful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When Elizondo finally arrived at Tepeyac he felt like everything was sort of in slow motion and every one moved as a procession up to see the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Today, there have been many people who have been trying to stop others from polluting the oceans, but they still haven t been able to convince the whole world to end ocean pollution. It looked about right, as if it would fulfil its intended purpose effectively. Perhaps it wasn t quite as covert as he tended to prefer, but he was sure it was good enough to handle the task required of it. Jack unzipped the duffle bag he d brought with him. • 18. The Pros And Cons Of Reconstruction After The End Of The... Reconstruction began early in 1865 after the end of the civil war when the South was undergoing political, social and economic upheavals (Foner 15). The South embraced Union methods of total wars that led to damage to their land and crops. As a result, many people died while others were captured as slaves due to the huge drought and inflation facing their state, while their masters fled oncoming unions. From these losses, policymakers by 1865 in Washington had no other choice rather than reconstruction. Reconstruction involved several initiatives including abolishment and transformation of the Southern society, recovering the Southern Unions and most importantly the enactment of an assimilation legislation program that would aid in favoring the freed blacks into the American social and economic system. President Lincoln had pardoned reconstruction of the South long before in1863 two years before the war ended (Kennedy and Cohen 44). This was known as the ten percent plan that supported one of the initiatives. This plan allowed the Southern state to be assimilated to the union after every ten percent of the population. Later in the year 1865 president Lincoln got assassinated and Andrew Johnson succeeded him. President Johnson carried on with the ten percent plan. The principle reason this story is a classic is because of how Sue Monk Kidd was able to use a metaphor throughout the entire story. Bees represent society and life and without help from other bees and the queen bee, the hive dies an incredible and unique way to show the readers the importance of appreciating life. It says ¨... uniquely suited to helping us to the rhythms and habits of daily life...¨ , just like Italo Calvino said classics need to have a way of influencing and relating to readers, this article says it is necessary for classics to be able to teach readers something by bringing them into the story. The passage I recognized those ideas in the novel of The Secret Life Of Bees was when August and Lily were taking care of the bees. That section of the book intrigued me and added to my life because of the dialogue, setting, and mood. Along with the first article citation from the Wall Street Journal, a second fragment of the article goes along with my point . ¨ People have always received life guiding wisdom from certain types...(of books)¨ Italo Calvino and Nelson Lowhim both agree in saying classics have to teach the reader something and there has to be a moral to the story. Similarities Between The Balloon And The Red Balloon GEORGETA HARPAD ESL 101 JOBST Love and Friendship Stopping for a few seconds to admire a flower, an insect, a phenomenon of nature, an architecture, etc., in days full of worries, have become memorable. Also, all these seconds sent me every time into a wonderful world, just like Confucius said, Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it . The short films The Balloon directed by Martynas Zaremba and The Red Balloon directed by Albert Lamorisse have the plot people s reaction for a few seconds at sight of a black balloon. The Balloon film submits a series of reactions from various people in the city caused by a simple black balloon with no intended meaning. The balloon starts to appear above the city one night while people were sleeping. The Red Balloon , too shows an emotional story of friendship between a boy called Pascal, and his red balloon. The writer and director Lamorisse succeeds through fiction to combine reality, the wonder, and the magic of this friendship. In both short films, the main focus is a floating balloon, but I believe that their differences are more striking than their similarities. Both films The Balloon and The Red Balloon have a similar high point. In my opinion The Balloon high point is that when the balloon appears on a street where a bad boy with a knife in his hand is ready to commit an act of violence. The presence of the balloon in that area stops the bad boy to commit it. Moreover, the bad boy looks his way to sky to admire the balloon for a few seconds. Likewise, the balloon from Lamorisse s film avoid an act of violence. For example, a gang of older kids chases Pascal around city, determined to steal and destroy his balloon. The red balloon performs a miracle, it saves little Pascal from that chase. It sacrifices itself and lets itself tortured with stones to save Pascal s life. Furthermore, the red balloon dies for this cause. However, in three distinct ways, The Balloon and The Red Balloon films are almost opposites. First of all, their score is very different. The Balloon film sound source is the song with lyrics titled Time to Leave of the band Suicide DJs. The lyrics can provide depth, powerful to the song, and make the audience to ... Does the family of the teens have any legal recourse available to them, and if so what is available to them? The answer to this is yes the families definitely have legal recourse available to them for a number of reasons. The first mistake the officers made was pulling over the teens because they thought they might have been involved in a recent string of burglaries. That right there is a violation of the teens Fourth Amendment to have probable cause to stop them in the first place. Police officers have to have probable cause or more than a hunch to pull someone over. The scenario said nothing about the car was pulled over because maybe a witness saw the car leaving the scene of the crime, or maybe the officer had a description of the suspect and they matched it, he just thought they might be involved. Secondly, they did question the teens and because of their responses the officer becomes angry and pulls the teens out of the car. The Hunger Games were an annually televised event in which the governing body, The Capitol , appointed two tributes from each impoverished district. Twenty four children were in opposition of each other and were forced to compete for their survival. The novel concentrated on the link between the contemporary society to an enhanced adapted dystopian nation. This included capitalism resulting in income equality, questioning the humanity of the games and merging entertainment with sacrifice on reality TV. The Hunger Games, presented a variety of issues that were interpreted in various ways. The novel presented capitalism as an economic system that derailed into forms of exploitation. Proponents for abortion often use the fact that a fetus is not a moral person to justify their position, whereas those who are against the issue often claim that a fetus is a moral person and should deserve every right a moral person has, including the right to live. Judith Jarvis Thomson, however, takes an entirely different approach. In her article A Defense of Abortion Thomson argues that even if a fetus is considered to be a human being does not automatically ensure it the right to live. Thomson s position leads to many oppositions and critiques. Foot s article, for example, Killing versus Letting Die attempts to point out the flaws in Thomson s argument. Foot claims that a fetus status must be considered when addressing the issue of abortion and that Thomson s argument is invalid. Although Thomson s argument may seem valid at first, Foot does offer considerable evidence critiquing the validity of Thomson s argument. One of the main issues Foot has with Thomson s argument is the analogy her paper consistently relies on to relay her position. In the analogy, a person is kidnapped and placed in a kidney machine that is connected to an ill violinist, who is in desperate need of a functioning kidney. Study on Delhi The lack of standard concepts in research is perhaps the most significant difficulty in the comparison of results between studies.[1] In the running injury field, many researchers have noted the problem of how to define a running related injury.[2 4] Some investigators have suggested the need for a standardised definition of running related injury.[2, 5 7] However, a consensus has not yet been reached; thus, researchers have used different definitions in their studies.[3, 8, 9] Currently, the rates of prevalence and incidence of running injuries vary between 19% and 92%, depending on the injury definition adopted in the study. This means that the lack of standardisation of injury definitions may affect study results.[2, 3, 5, 9 15] For instance, Bovens, et al. On the other hand, Blair, et al. [17] adopted a more stringent definition of running related injury as an injury that causes the runners to stop running for at least seven days ; they found a lower injury incidence of 24%. The higher rate of injury found in the first study may be due to the lack of a specific period of interruption or time off from running in the definition used, in contrast to the definition used in the second study, which clearly specifies the period of ... Characterization of the murderers stays possible through Truman Capote s selective language while Miller shows it through his actors. Capote could have easily just characterized Perry Smith as a dead beat murderer who did not have much to live for, but he does the complete opposite. Truman Capote decides to pick out a positive trait of Perry Smith, his intelligence, and use it towards his audience to give them a deeper bonding to this character and provoke ... • 38. How Does The Use Of Culture Affect Emily Bronte s Character As the novel Wuthering Heights progresses, Emily Bronte develops much of the story through the characters. Bronte s use of culture, geographical, and physical surroundings, manipulate the characters psychological and moral standings. Especially apparent in Catherine, Emily Bronte s use of culture and physical surroundings creates a psychological split within Catherine s character. From the beginning of the novel, Bronte establishes a cultural paradox that directly reflects Catherine s personality; the ambiance of Wuthering Heights as opposed to Thrushcross Grange. Wuthering Heights being wild and passionate in nature, yet Thrushcross Grange eloquent and publicly sophisticated. Through the novel we see Catherine s character constantly at battle with these wild and eloquent sides. Bronte emphasizes this when she acts violently towards Edgar after she has argued with Heathcliff. This proves an example of how she could not conceal her wilder behavior when her two characters collide. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 39. The Themes Of Fate And Fate In Oedipus The King Destiny and fate both play a similar role in this play. These are two crucial themes that are central to the play; they have a devastating impact on the story line and unleash terror on the characters. Fate is one of the opposition elements of the play that is influenced by one s own action but ultimately is dictated by events beyond anybody s control. By elevating the importance of fate, Sophocles suggests that characters cannot be fully responsible for their actions, but instead, they are unaware that their destiny is controlled by a supreme power. These two main themes cause tragedy and despair to many characters, however, the most affected one is King Oedipus. In the Greek tragedy, Oedipus the King , the irony of fate and destiny is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His destiny decided by the God s is particularly cruel and pitiless since the oracle of Delphi decided that his fate was to kill his father and marry his mother. An ancient Greek audience would accept the wisdom of the gods. However, Sophocles skill as a playwright is to challenge the ancient Greek received wisdom: even though Oedipus ought to accept his destiny because of some heinous sin committed by his forefathers, he inspires sympathy in the audience by using dramatic irony. Oedipus dire warning as he imposes on himself the penalty of exile: severe sentence // will be exile shows the reader that Oedipus is ignorant of the fact that he is the guilty one and that therefore he is inadvertently condemning his own future and his own life. Also, the quotation I curse him is another example of dramatic irony since the King is unaware that he is cursing himself and consequently, putting at risk and at danger his own future. This again shows the strength of the God s who are able to arrange and decide people s destiny. Later on the play, the audience discover him as being blind since he does not manage to see the truth about himself. Therefore, this makes him exposed and vulnerable to his unknown and unwanted devastating destiny. Sophocles uses the quote: For blind of seeing to show that Oedipus frequently ... • 40. Analysis Of Small Steps Author Style To start off, Louis Sachar writes in many different styles in the different books he writes. There are many different books that he has written and has gotten many awards. Sachar won the Newbery Medal for one of his top selling books, called Holes. Another book that he is written is called Small Steps. Small Steps is about how you have one thing at a time in life and not do so many things at once. In the book Small Steps, Louis Sachar uses figurative language, conflict to help keep the reader engaged, and uses the same character s name in multiple of his books as his writing style. One style that Louis Sachar uses in the book Small Steps is conflict. Conflict is a struggle between opposing forces or when two characters in a story get in a fist fight or just a fight over a conversation. In the book Small Steps, an example of conflict is on page 217, She picked up her cup and tossed the contents at him, splattering him with coffee and cream. Kira got mad at Armpit because Armpit said that Kira should consider another profession besides singing and Kira was really upset that Armpit said that. Kira tossed the cup of coffee at him while everyone in the store stared at Armpit with coffee all over his shirt. This relates to the author s style because Sachar likes to use a lot conflict in his books to keep the reader engaged. Another example of conflict in the book Small Steps is on page 199, Moses whacked him on the side of his head. X Ray gets hit on the side of his head very hard by Moses, who is a man who wants the counterfeit tickets that X Ray has. X Ray s glasses broke, and his tickets were stolen by Moses, while X Ray lay on the floor after he got punched in the face. Sachar uses a lot of conflict in the books he writes. In addition to conflict, another style that Louis Sachar uses in his books, especially Small Steps and Holes, is figurative language. Figurative language is a language that uses words of expressions with a meaning that is different from the literal interpretation. It also uses exaggerations or alterations to make a linguistic point. An example of figurative language in Small Steps ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparison Of Lewis And Clark Expedition The expeditions of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark of the newly purchased Louisiana Territory radically shaped American scientific knowledge as well as relationships with Indians. The framework for their expedition was laid far before they first set sail from the mouth of the Missouri River is 1804. In 1801, France reacquired its North American Louisiana territory from Spain after a series of secret deals with Spain brokered by French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Almost immediately, US trade at the port of New Orleans was blocked, enraging many Americans. • 45. Finding The Absorbance Value And T % Of Cobalt OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the experiment was to find the absorbance value and T% of cobalt (II) nitrate solutions at various wavelengths. Using Beer s law to determine the concentration of an unknown cobalt (II) nitrate solution with the %T and A values of the known Cobalt (II) nitrate concentrations. THEORY: The purpose of this experiment is to find out if we can identify an unknown Cobalt (II) nitrate concentration by using Calorimetry. Calorimetry involves the use of light to determine a specific solute in solution (Sullivan 238).A given molecule absorbs particular frequencies of light and passes others. If we are able to determine the degree in which various frequencies are absorbed, the population or concentration of a given molecule in solution can be determined. In this experiment we are trying to find out the visible spectrum of the known Cobalt (II) nitrate solution by using absorption versus the wavelengths to determine the analytical wavelength. Once the analytical wavelength is found we can use that to identify the unknown Cobalt (II) nitrate solution, by using the Beer s law. Beer s Law is a direct liner relationship between the absorbance of light are a selected wavelength and the concentration the absorbing species in the solution. (Sullivan 241). Beer s Law shows a relationship between several concentrations. To determine if the determine our data consistent with Beer s law, we will plot a graph of absorbance versus concentration with a linear regression ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
