Prison Vs. Prison Analysis
I watched the video and was not surprised about what I had seen. I have relatives that have been in
state and local jails and prisons. The way they describe prison life is horrifying. Most of them come
they are released from jail or prison say have glad they are to be and is never going back. Of course,
for some that was not true. I was often told of how it is harder in prison versus being in jail. It is my
opinion for some people being incarcerated in jail or prison is a challenge, simply because of the
living conditions and having to follow mandatory rules that is set in place such as when to take a bath,
eat, sleep, when to make their beds an even when they are allowed to receive visitors. When thinking
about this question it should be very easy to answer, but it not looking at all of the different crimes a
person can be charged with; and place in jail or prison for a long period of time. A person can be
charged from one year to life without the possibility of parole. ... Show more content on

According to our reading, early prison were considered to be harsh environments (Siegel, L.,
Bartollas, C. 2014). Every prison does not holds its prisoners in poor conditions (Clarke, Peter, 2017).
Prison is designed to be uncomfortable as the law will allow. It is my opinion that life in jail or prison
for an inmate is to try and correct their behavior and to rehabilitate the prisoner to see if he/she are
able to function in society. DO I think that jail or prison is too tough or too lenient on inmates? First, I
will say it has been too many inmates crime that has committed the same crime and got released early
to be able to go back out into society and repeat the same crime or another one a vicious as the first
one. Although, some people that a gone to jail or prison that committed a crime and served the
sentence has had great success after being

Progesterone
Progesterone is a steroid hormone that belongs to a group of sex hormones called progestogen. It is
secreted primarily by the placenta (during pregnancy), the corpus luteum and adrenal glands. The
corpus luteum is a temporary endocrine gland that is produced in a female body after ovulation and is
involved in the early stages of pregnancy. If the eggs are not fertilised, the corpus luteum reverts to a
corpus albicans and menstruation takes place. If the egg is fertilized, then progesterone is secreted by
the placenta.
Progesterone has the chemical formula of C21H30O2. Progesterone is composed of three 6 carbon
rings and one 5 carbon ring fused together, satisfying the the structure of a steroid. It contains two
ketone groups as well as an alkene group and is a hydrophobic molecule. Progesterone s main function
is to prepare the lining of the uterus to accept a fertilized egg and allow for further development into a
fetus. During pregnancy, progesterone allows for the development of the milk producing glands in the
breasts. Progesterone is also a neurosteroid that allows for normal brain function. It protects the brain
from damage and stimulates repair after injury. Some other functions include raising the epidermal
growth factor , normalizing blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, progesterone will only carry out its function if the cell contains the intracellular
progesterone receptor. These receptors are embedded in the cytoplasm. The progesterone and the
progesterone receptor form a covalent bond creating a single unit called a dimer. The dimer then
enters the nucleus and binds to the DNA which stimulates the writing of genes and creates RNA that
are specific to progesterone. The RNA that was formed is transformed into new protein. This entire
process changes the metabolic character of the cell allowing for the cell to carry out tasks specific to
the progesterone

Soccer Concussions
Although soccer is one of the leading sports to cause concussions, I believe that soccer players should
be able to head the ball at all ages because it takes away from the fundamentals of the game, and it
causes the game to feel unnatural to the players while it also causes players to overthink. On February
16, 2016, the United States Soccer Federation declared that no one under the age of 13 was allowed to
head the ball because of the staggering concussion numbers that soccer had brought in. A concussion
is any trauma or blow to the head, and some symptoms of a concussion is headache, unconsciousness,
nausea, and dizziness. This new rule has made drastic changes to the game that we used to think was
soccer. Not enabling heading for soccer players clearly defies the fundamentals of the game because
players will, or would, often use their head to propel the ball forward to move away from their
defender, but now with the new heading rule, players are not allowed anymore to use their head until
they are at least 13. This new rule will forever change the way that soccer will develop all around the
United States because players will not be able to use a very useful part of their body until they are a
teenager. As stated by Sahar Milani of the American Youth Soccer Organization(AYSO), The new
policy includes that an indirect free kick will be awarded to the opposing team if a player age 10 or
younger, deliberately touches the ball with his/her head during a game . This

Theme Of Incest In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
The discourse of incest is considered almost universally as taboo and so is the study of the phenomena
of sexual relations between closely related individuals in its diverse manifestations. Literary texts at
length have tried to explore incest as social and psychological deviance but the discussion moves to
the margins of the narrative into unspoken or rather unspeakable territory. The mainstream discourse
prevents the writers from representing and speaking about the theme of incest explicitly. It remains
restricted to a marginal space and can be understood only through a deep exploration of the individual
characters and the narrative style of the text.
Edgar Allen Poe s short story The Fall of the House of Usher, published in 19th century indirectly
represents the incestuous love between Usher and his twin sister Madeline. The plot or the narrative
doesn t speak of the attraction at an external level. A similar relationship exists between Estha and

The Fall of the House of Usher, a 19th century Gothic short story indirectly deals with the theme of
incest between the protagonist Roderick Usher and his twin sister Madeline. The author takes the
utmost care not to mention the term anywhere in the text but rather conveys it through the description
of the extraordinary nature of their family.
I had learned, too, the very remarkable fact, that the stem of the Usher race, all time honoured as it
was , had put forth, at no period, any enduring branch; in other words, that the entire family lay in
their direct line of descent, and had always, very trifling and very temporary variation, so lain.

President Ronald Reagan National Missile Defense
National Missile Defense
Historical Perspective On March 23, 1983, through a nationally televised address to the nation, then
President Ronald Reagan envisioned a Star Wars defense system to replace the existing element of
mutual deterrence between the two Cold War superpowers. The system calls for a high tech
impenetrable ballistic missile shield for the United States. The speech marks the birth of the Strategic
Defense Initiative1 (SDI). It came about when the Soviets then had numerical advantage over the
United States in ballistic missiles that are increasingly accurate and powerful. In fact, the Soviets has
the ability to overwhelm the United States missiles on the ground should a conflict ever occur. Arms

Unfortunately, some of these nations are not in concert with the goals and vision United States has for
world peace. In fact, they oppose United States growing influence in their region and view the
presence of United States an obstacle to fulfilling their own regional agenda. They harbor anger and
contempt towards the United States for its role. Furthermore, today s environment provides increasing
accessibility to technology, information and expertise to design, build and deliver weapons of mass
destruction that can threaten our security. There exists an immediate need to address our nation s
capability to defend itself competently in the event of a missile attack from these nations.
The recent years has also seen the emergence of many groups that embrace terrorism. The world
witnessed in pure anger the events of September 11, 2001. Also, mindless suicidal bombings on streets
and shopping malls full of innocent civilians constantly filled our news. These acts underscore the
undivided intent of groups to disrupt world peace at any cost. Accordingly, these groups have
expressed interest in acquiring chemical, biological or nuclear capabilities to further enhance their
ability to terrorize. Their indiscriminate use of these new abilities threatens our interest at home and
aboard.
In 1999, then President Clinton signed into law The National Missile Defense Act of 1999 2 that
allowed the United States to deploy a National Missile Defense (NMD) when technologically

Importance Of The Micro Economic Environment
Activity one: 1.1Explain the importance of the micro economic environment to business
organisations: Microeconomics looks at how individual players in the economy, such as households
and firms, interact. It focuses on the impact that their economic choices have on the allocation of
scarce resources to meet unlimited demand. These interactions match what one party wants or
demands in economic term and what the other gives in exchange (supply). Each time someone buys a
chocolate bar from a newsagent or undertakes the morning paper round, there s an interaction between
supply and demand (ESRC). (P) Demand curve Equilibrium point of D S Supply curve (Q) Fig1.1:
equilibrium of consumer demand curve and firm s supply The Above picture clearly illustrate that
where the Demand and supply curves intersect, that is called equilibrium point of demand and supply
where consumer demand is equal to supply from firms or production sector and Q shows quantity and
P shows price. The collective way of all the decisions on demand and supply, use of resources and
opportunity costs made by millions of people or firms sets the price for goods, services, assets and
labour demand and supply therefore form the main principle that underlines all microeconomics
(ESRC). The microeconomics environment is the study of individuals and firms or organisations,
which are directly linked to business. The study of microeconomics focus on subsisting and
prospective stakeholders of company.

This is an almost insignificant change in momentum so therefore it can be said with confidence that
the law of conservation of momentum was conserved in this scenario.
For the second collision in part one, the change in momentum from initial conditions to final
conditions was 59.9 percent. This is change in momentum indicates that an external force (such as a
friction force) was present on the two cars. This friction force was caused by the additional mass
added onto Truck A so this added force from the weight on Truck A justifies the idea that the law of
conservation of momentum is only applicable when there are no other outside forces acting on the

Brief Summary Of Chapter Four Yemaya
Chapter Four Yemaya Other Names: La Sirene, Mommi, Nana Buruku, Iemanja, Iemaia, Yemalla,

Orishas. Yemaya exists within and influences over the oceans, seas and lakes. Also recognized as the
Mother of All, she consequently rules motherhood. Since all life began in the sea, the amniotic fluid
inside the womb is a representation of the sea. The embryo needs to change and grow in the
configuration of a fish ahead of becoming a human baby. To the human eyes, Yemaya appears as a
mermaid, and this is how she is normally represented. This brings up her observed form from Mami
Wata religion of the ancient water deities that were portrayed with upper bodies as human and fish or
snake lower bodies, which are not part of the Yoruba pantheon of the Orishas. Yemaya is connected

Cause And Effects Of Tsunamis
Tsunamis are one of the most destructive natural disasters. A series of waves in an ocean or lake
caused by the displacement of a large body of water is known as a tsunami, meaning harbor wave in
Japanese. A tsunami is also known as a tidal wave or seismic sea wave. Their wavelength is much
longer than a typical sea wave, therefore tsunamis do not resemble normal undersea currents. Instead
of appearing as a breaking wave, a tsunami may instead resemble a very tall tide or wave. Unlike
typical wind generated ocean waves, tsunamis are not caused by the gravitational pull of the Sun and
Moon but instead are generated by the displacement of water. Tsunamis are very destructive and their
causes and impact to the environment and to humans show this; so, looking at and understanding a
past example of a devastating tsunami and preparing for one in the future can help save lives and
lessen the overall damage.
There are several main causes of a tsunami. Doubtlessly, the most damaging tsunamis are caused by
earthquakes with a fault line near the ocean floor, or even underwater. Researchers from the
International Tsunami Research Center say that sudden vertical displacement over large areas, displace
water and end up creating destructive tsunami waves (What Causes Tsunamis). Less periodically,
submarine landslides can motivate a tsunami. The United States Geological Survey conducted
research and have found that Tsunamis can be generated on impact as a rapidly moving landslide mass

Mondavi Five Forces Analysis
The Five Forces and Mondavi The competitive forces that shape company strategy are very important
to consider in any organization. However, they are especially important when an organization s forces
fall closer to the intense side on the scale between intense forces and benign forces. Almost no
company earns attractive returns on investment when forces are intense, like those in industries that
sell luxury goods. (Porter, 2008). Yet, Robert Mondavi s wineries have leveraged the five forces
(barriers to entry, bargaining power of suppliers/buyers, threat of substitutes, and competitive rivalry)
in order to maintain consistent profits. The five forces are discussed in detail below with the level of
importance increasing throughout the descriptions. While bargaining power of buyers is ranked the
least important of the five factors for Mondavi s strategy, its importance should not be understated.
One of the Wine is typically sold to wholesalers who then distribute to retail outlets. With the
decreasing number of wholesalers and the consolidation of retailers, buyers negotiating power is
increasing. It is difficult for companies like Mondavi to make consistent profits and maintain market
share if they cannot keep products on retailers shelves. The second least important factor in Mondavi s
corporate strategy is the threat of substitutes. A substitute offering arises when there is a product in a
different industry that can satisfy the same need as the product a company sells. If one looks at wine as
an alcoholic beverage, there really is no substitute for wine, as beer and liquor are technically in the
same industry. However, if seen as a luxury item that s purpose is for the experience, there are some
substitutes for wine. Examples include high end chocolates or cheeses, as customers might desire to be
connoisseurs in these two items instead of wine. It would seem that the cost of switching to one of
these products would be rather low for customers, indicating there could be some risk. Mondavi does
have many competitors in three different areas. The intensity of the rivalry amongst these competitors
makes this factor ranked next in importance. Per the case, the three types of competitors are rival

Examples Of Sectionalism In The United States
Sectionalism and Nationalism In the United States of America Did you know what nationalism or
Sectionalism is? Well ill tell you! Sectionalism is when people in a country feel loyalty or pride to a
certain section of their country. Nationalism is when the people of a certain country feel pride and or
loyalty to their country as a whole. In the early 1800 s, the U.S. was divided by sectionalism, but was
also united by nationalism. The Missouri Compromise is a good example of nationalism. The Missouri
Compromise stated that Missouri would enter the union as a slave state and that slavery would be
prohibited above the 30 degree 30 latitude. This compromise essentially split the country into two
parts; pro slavery south and a anti slavery

Romanticism In Sense And Sensibility
In the eighteenth century, reason and emotion no longer worked together. Emotion was kept down and
was considered inferior. Social conventions were more important than individual convictions. In other
words people considered form more significant than content. As regard art, this period was called
Classical period. The opposite of this was slowly being prepared to burst out at the time of the French
Revolution. This period was called Romantic.
What Romanticism tried to do was stir all the way through the Age of Reason so in this case man and
nature became fused through participation in the one mighty being , so that the most elemental natural
objects became humanised . The term of sensibility emerged as a concept in the Enlightenment Era
but continued to be defined during the Romantic period and beyond. This new concept describes
people s capacity to be affected by the world around them. It also directly correlates their emotional
capabilities with their moral development. A high moral standard should result in an appropriate
emotional response. What was considered appropriate was different for men and women, however.
People thought that sensibility led ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Unconventional Warfare
Reading Colonel Maxwell s article, I started to think of the United States (U.S.) Unconventional
Warfare (UW) history. If you look at our nation s history prior to the 1900s, I believe the policy
makers may have understood UW better, but more importantly, they did not have to deal with the
modern day constraints of employing UW today. The issue today is not do we understand UW, as
much as the employment of UW in the world we live in today. We live in the age of I have to have it

does not have a joint doctrine developed for UW, but I do not believe that has prevented us from
employing UW as a strategy to support U.S. interest. Even without a joint doctrine, the U.S. has had
and I feel still has the capability to employ UW. The real issue is policy and decisions makers in
Washington have no patience for UW to be successful as a real strategy. The other issue is policies can
change every four to eight years in our country. Do not get me wrong I like our democratic political
system, but I do not think the Taliban has to worry about pole numbers or a change in their
administration when it comes to making strategic level decisions. Even with a complete grasp of UW,
I believe UW would have a limited chance of a successful end state because of time along with the
modern day information age. An example, which he quoted, was Afghanistan after 9/11. It had
complete support of our policy makers and the public. The general understanding of a successful end
state was to have the Taliban removed. Success was quick, public opinion was high, and UW was the
flavor of the day, it was the quick fix in 2003. History tells us that all changed, then the presentation of
information changed followed by public opinion and the final change policy change. The biggest issue
for US policies makers is any employment of U.S. forces in a conventional or UW capacity has a time

The Act That Ignited the Revolution Essay
Prior to gaining its independence, America endured various controlling methods brought on by the
Crown that were focused on directly benefiting Britain, rather than Britain providing much needed
support and assistance to the colonists attempting to settle the new rugged land. While attempts to
control every aspect of daily life in the colonies was nothing new, the most critical and obviously
selfish move was The Stamp Act of 1775 (Tindall Shi, 2010). This tax, proposed by Chief Minister of
Britain, George Grenville, and enforced by King George III, was the first law or tax passed without

without representation of the mainstream society, Britain did provide the larger cities with an

to day life of the businessmen, who were the most vocal and influential colonists, it was imposed
without any opportunity to voice alternative solutions from the colonists or the appointed officials
present in the colonies (Tindall Shi, 2010). The famous quote, No taxation without representation
displays the outrage this selfish British act caused among the colonists. This was the first move made
by King George III that showed that he intended to use Britain s new land for revenue building during
his reign and this patronizing and disrespectful act ignited a series of events that became the American
Revolution (Tindall Shi, 2010). Driven by their anger toward the Crown for implementing this
thoughtless tax, the colonists began to unite despite their varying religious and political views. This
was the first time the colonist came together and looked past their differences for the good of the
colonies as a whole. Bostonians displayed their outrage by hanging a disrespectful depiction

The Locus of Control Contsruct Essay
Locus of Control, originally conceptualized by Julian Rotter (1966), has been found to be critical to
numerous studies. Within psychology, it is considered to be a generalized expectancy regarding the
forces that determine reinforcement. Individuals with internal orientation perceive rewards as
contingent based on personal behavior, whereas those with external orientation attribute reinforcement
received to external factors such as chance and powerful others (Levenson 1981). This essay examines
the nature and significance of this psychological construct, especially in academic achievement and
health domains. Additionally, it has been argued that high internality is positively associated with
leadership while high scores of powerful others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The creator, Leveson (1972), found that participants with chance orientation shared traits which could
not be distinguished by the P or I scales. Further, the study in anti pollution activism also support the
validity. Responses from participants demonstrated that involvement was different for those having
high scores on the P scale, compared with the Chance scale (Levenson 1974). Therefore, the Levenson
Scale is more sufficiently reliable and appropriate.
As an important predictor of health behaviors, generally, Locus of Control construct supplies health
problems and treatments with essential insights. There is evidence to suggest that patients scoring high
on the I scale might be better suited to ameliorative and preventive treatment for the sake of recovery
(Strickland 1974 cited in Levenson 1981). Additionally, patients participation in health treatment
cannot be emphasized more. Individuals that view themselves as masters of destiny are more likely to
engage in better adjustment since they have positive expectations and self control which are pivotal
determinants with regard to health outcomes (Wallston and Wallston 1978). Critics might argue that
the correlations between Locus of Control construct and health issue are not significant. Some
researchers, however, suggest that this construct has low predictive power since it fails to predict some
aspects of health, including survival rates with regard to cancer patients, controls of metabolic in
diabetes

INTRODUCTION
During the recent years, there is a growing trend in real time voice communication using Internet
protocol (IP). Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that allows delivery of voice
communications over the Internet or other packet switched networks rather than the traditional Public
Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Many VoIP applications are available on the internet: Skype,
Viber, Tango, and Yahoo messenger. All of these applications provide good quality and free calls. In
VoIP, the analog voice signal from the transmitter is converted into the digital format before
compression and encoding it into a stream of IP packets for transmission to the receiver over IP
network. At the receiving end,

His parents were Carl Friedrich Wagner, who was in the Leipzig police service and Johanna Rosine.
Wagner was very young when he began showing interest for music. At a young age he learned to play
piano. He also wrote a couple of plays. Wagner ended up going to Leipzig University. Some of
Wagner s inspirations were Beethoven, Mozart and Shakespeare.
In 1836, Wagner married the singer and actress Minna Planer. They moved to Konigsberg, where
Wagner became musical director at Magdeburg Theatre. Also in 1836, Das Liebesverbot was produced
there. Wagner wrote both the lyrics and music. He called his concept Gesamtunkstwerk which meant
total work of art and was his method. Which was used to come up with German myths about love and
redemption.
He then moved to Riga, Russia, in 1837. Wagner became the first musical director of the theater and
began to work on his next opera, Rienzi. They got on a ship to London and made their way to Paris.
He got a job at writing vaudeville music for small theaters. Wagner was part of the quasi revolutionary
Young Germany movement, and his politics were reflected in his work, Rienzi. Which was unable to
be produced in Paris. He sent it to the Court Theatre in Dresden, Germany, where it was accepted. In
1842, Wagner s Rienzi, a political opera set in imperial Rome premiered in

I Walk Into A Local Coffee Shop
I walk into a local coffee shop, eager to begin researching the topic for my thesis paper. Immediately, I
am bombarded by a series of sense experiences: the glowing orange yellow of the overhead lights, the
smell of roasting coffee and steamed milk, the warmth flowing from my cup, and the chatter of the
patrons around me as they talk amongst themselves or engage in their own work. As you read that
sentence, you likely begin to create your own mental image of my coffee shop with a varying degree
of accuracy depending upon the skill of your imagination. Suppose that you have the best coffee shop
imagination skills in the entirety of human history, and can take my description, however lacking, and
create a perfect representation of my coffee shop. I take a look at your picture and am amazed by how
closely you have captured every detail. It is as though you were there with me, and I begin to
reminisce on my experience. But, is it possible for you to reminisce alongside me? Can you smell the
coffee and feel the impact of your shoes on the concrete floor as I did? Obviously not, you would
probably say, as you were not there with me. However, suppose that I brought you with me. Are you
smelling the coffee, seeing the lights, and feeling the floor in the same way that I do? I would say no,
as would many philosophers. This is because you and I are fundamentally different persons with
fundamentally different qualia. In this paper, I will examine three highly influential arguments for

Major Determinants of Interest Rates
Major Determinants of Interest Rates
Inflation
Inflation is a factor that decisively affects the nature or outcome of interest rates. Inflation is an
increase in prices of goods and services over time (Financial Institutions, Instruments and Markets,
2012). Inflation is the natural byproduct of a robust, growing economy. No inflation, or deflation (the
lowering of prices), is actually a much worse economic indicator. Also, in a healthy economy, wages
rise at the same rate as prices. A standard explanation for the cause of inflation is too much money
chasing too few goods This is also called the demand pull theory. For several possible reasons, more
money is being spent than normal. This could be because interest rates are low and ... Show more

In other words, the rate at which one currency can be exchanged for another (Investopedia, 2012).
Exchange rates play a fundamental role in Australia s level of trade. Exchange rates are among the
most watched, analysed and governmentally manipulated economic measures, but exchange rates
matter on a smaller scale as well because an example being they impact the real return of an investor s
portfolio (Investopedia, 2012). Exchange rates and interest rates, as well as inflation, are all
interconnected. Higher interest rates offer lenders, such as Australia s four big banks; ANZ, NAB,
Commonwealth and Westpac, a higher return compared to other countries...however lower interest
rates tend to decrease exchange rates (Investopedia, 2012). Australia s exchange rates are published

We, my family and friends, have written to you today to show our concerns and point of view of the

The first act would be the Quartering Act. This act is where we, as the colonists, have to provide food,

Alexander The Great Legacy
Alexander the Great is the most famous conqueror in the history of the world. His legacy and conquest
has shaped the world we know today. Many leaders after him have looked to him as an example of
what a good leader should be. Alexander the Great s tomb was one of the biggest tourist attractions of
the ancient world. Roman emperors, including Pompey, Julius Caesar, and Caligula traveled to
Alexandria to pay their respects. It all started at the age of 18 when Alexander took charge of the
Companion Cavalry and helped his father in defeating the Athenian and Theban armies. Starting from
such a young age Alexander has been already shaping the empire he would create. At the age of
twenty he became king, then by the age of twenty six he conquered the Persian Empire and at age
thirty explored the Indian frontier. He was an unstoppable force conquering the world. Alexander the
Great is the greatest conqueror of the known world, because of the personal teachings of Aristotle of
Stagira, his innovated military genius and multicultural integration methods. Aristotle is one of the
greatest intellectual figures of Western history. Still today we are using his works in philosophy and
the sciences. This allowed Alexander to take in vast amounts of knowledge. Aristotle saw the love for
learning Alexander had and helped him further his studies. Growing up Alexander was interested in
the secrets of medicine. King Philip wanted to give his son the best education he could. He asks

Claudia Garrity Mrs. Proud The Butterfly Revolution, William Butler Lord of the Flies, William
Goulding 1 221; 1 208, Response #2 The setting in the two novels plays important roles in both of the
plots. In The Butterfly Revolution, the setting shifts in the very beginning of the story. In the journal
Winston Weyn receives for his birthday from his uncle, he describes his home. Winston also shares
with us that from his parents he half heartedly accepted a trip to High Pines for the summer. Winston
was not like most boys, and instead of playing baseball and doing things that most boys do, he read
books. This bothered his brother Howard, which just encouraged Winston to read more and more. His
father and mother, both concerned, had multiple talks with Winston but none of these talks resulted in
anything. And here I am, sitting on a thin and kind of smelly narrow mattress on my bunk in a cabin at
High Pines (22). He went from the comfort of his own bed to the smelly mattress of High Pines. The
central conflict of the story begins at the camp. This shift of setting allows the real story to begin.
Later in the novel, the setting shifts again. Some of the boys begin to venture off into the girls camp,
or Low Pines. After the revolution has begun, they take over the girl camp, also. If the girls camp was

Critique Of Stephen Seamands Ministry
Critique of Stephen Seamands Ministry in the Image of God
Trinitarian Ministry Stephen Seamands proffers a Trinitarian description of Christian Ministry as the
ministry of Jesus Christ, the Son, to the Father, through the Holy Spirit, for the sake of the church and
the world. The author seems to presume that many in the Christian faith have not adequately observed
or applied the doctrine of the Trinity significantly in the vocation of ministry. It is with this perception
that he postulates a Trinitarian approach of ministry that emphasizes communion with God shaping
our language about God to shape our heart so we might share in the life of God. In arriving at his
conclusions, Seamands uses well grounded Scriptural foundations, along with a descriptive of the Icon
of the Holy Trinity painted in 1425 by a Russian Monk, Andrei Rublev, including the historical
significance that is traced back to the Enlightenment, and the findings of renowned theologians
beginning with Karl Barth. The preponderance of evidence provided supports the author s contention
that the grammar of the Christian faith and life is rooted in the doctrine of the Trinity having created
the current Trinitarian renaissance. There are three foundational points in this theological approach
that provide comprehension for that which seems beyond understanding God in one being; God in
three persons. First, the main idea is centered on joining with Christ in the continuing ministry that
substantiates the

Many people feel the issue on immigration and birthright citizenship may have become a touchy

rightful US citizens. Also people say that the undocumented citizens want to have a baby in the United
States of America with the assumption they will grant US citizenship to them as a family. In certain

If the situation were turned around the feeling of confusion and alienation would hurt so much to think
about how a person thinks what we look like, and possibly become scared of what someone could do
if they found out that the person is undocumented.
Arizona made it tougher for undocumented citizen by making a federal law called the Arizona Senate
Bill 1070. The controversial bill gives Arizona law enforcement the authority to stop people whom
officers have reasonable suspicion of being in the country illegally, detain these individuals while
verifying immigration status, and arrest undocumented immigrants for transfer to ICE custody.
(McFadyen) The article also states The bill, also known as the Support Our Law Enforcement and
Safe Neighborhoods Act also makes it a crime to be in the state illegally and to provide transportation
to someone you know is undocumented. (McFadyen) With that said, it seems to me, it gives the police
in Arizona authority to stop anyone they feel like. It also touches on the subject of racial profiling and
discrimination just by the way a person looks making it ok to stop them. Furthermore, by making this
bill it says that it is ok to look at someone and judge them for what they look like.
Another argument that some people argue is that undocumented immigrants steal jobs away from
rightful American citizens, making it harder for people to find a job. But at the same time the

In the words of Vice Admiral James Bond Stockdale, USN, integrity consists of knowing one s

1965, Commander Stockdale ejected from his plane only to be captured by the Vietcong during the

in that time, he observed the actions of his men. He witnessed honorable, high ranking officers cave

How Celtic Folkore has Influenced My Family Essay
Every family has a unique background that influences the way they live and interact with other people.
My parents, who emigrated from Ireland to the States with my three brothers in 1989, brought over
their own Celtic folklore and traditions that have helped shaped the way our family operates and lives.
One aspect of folklore that has helped shape my family dynamic is the Celtic cross both its
background and what role it has played in our lives. The Celtic cross has an extensive history in

With the help of other immigrants and traditions that have been passed on, this piece of folklore has
become a symbol of both Christianity and womanhood in my family. As is tradition, my mother would
give each of my sisters a Celtic cross when she made her communion. This ritual extends beyond my
immediate family due to our unusually large numbers: while my grandmother is one of eight children,
both my mother and I are one of nine. While these strange familial patterns have never been properly
explained, they have created a great way for the bond of the women in each family to go much further.
Since almost all of my extended family still lives in Ireland, the cross is a consoling connection to my
aunts and grandmother who have upheld the tradition. It is also a powerful example of how folklore
changed and adapted from Ireland to the United States (particularly to my family). Both this and the
giving of the Celtic cross have created a significant tradition that we were able to maintain when we
came to the United States. Although the Celtic cross became fashionable as a cemetery marker in
Victorian Dublin around the 1860s, it is still an important part of my religious and familial life

Archaeologists destroy the sites they excavate. This has been one of the major criticisms that has been

The Euthyphro, Socrates And Euthyphro
Ortecia Guity
Introduction to Philosophy
4/30/15
In Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates and Euthyphro have a battle concerning the meaning of piety. Socrates
interrogates Euthyphro on whether or not is possible to have an objective definite definition of a
concept/object. This came to be known as Euthyphro s Dilemma. This argument can be clarified as
follows; what is dear to the gods is pious, and what is not is impious : if an object is God love, than the
object must be loved by all Gods; therefore, pious objects are those that are necessarily loved by all
Gods. (10a). The dilemma emanates when one realizes it is God loved if it is pious, and pious due to
being God loved; in this case, piety in itself would be considered irrational in ... Show more content

Also justice should be applied and any man who breaks the law should be prosecuted. Euthyphro s
second attempt to define piety is; What is dear to the gods is pious, and what is not is impious (7a).
What he s saying is that actions that are pleasing to the gods would be pious and those opposed to
them are impious. Socrates didn t agree with this because what s pleasing to one god isn t to another,
thus piety cannot be simply what is dear to the gods. In the real world, we could apply this to a
religion that serves one God, Christianity. By being a Christian we work to live our lives in a positive
way by what s written in the bible. But are our actions pious because God tells us to do so, or does
God tell us to do them because they are pious? In comparison to Euthyphro, our actions are pious
because God says to do them, while he says if were not pleasing the gods than were not pious.
Because we believe that God is omnipotent, we view his work as pious and want to live by his word.
Socrates points out that he has yet to answer the question and asks, how can you be so sure that your
action is not impious? His third attempt; The godly and the pious is a part of the just that is the care of
the gods, while that concerned with the care of men is the remaining part of justice (12e). Euthyphro

The Nature Of Religion In Robinson Crusoe
Robinson Crusoe is much more than a novel that focuses on the religion of its fictional character
Crusoe, it s a philosophical investigation into the nature of religion. By looking through the
philosophical works that preceded Daniel Defoe s novel we can see how it ponders the questions of its
time and presents a metaphor of the development of morality, economics and religion. Both, the ideas
presented by Thomas Hobbs and Bernard Mandeville s An Enquiry into the Origin of Moral Virtue
will serve us well in understanding where Defoe is coming from and how he is actually developing
upon theses philosophies. Defoe boldly takes the ideas of his time and applies them to religion in a
way that perhaps his contemporaries were afraid to. He posits that religion is an economic
construction developed to help us cope with our condition. In many ways Defoe s novel asks questions
that were far ahead of their time. To begin this investigation, we must look to the text to find evidence
that more is going on here than simple faith.
The biggest problem with Crusoe s faith is that it s generally not present during his day to day life. He
only prays when he needs something or is terribly fearful of death, then after he overcomes his trial he
practically forgets the Lord all together. The first chapter of the book has Crusoe praying for salvation
from a nautical storm, he sees his survival as a sign to never go back out to sea again. Yet, in the same
chapter he blows off his recent religions resolution claiming to be but a young sailor, and had never
known anything of the matter (52). Crusoe s religious fickleness carries on throughout the novel but
each act of coming back to God in fear can also be seen as an act of repentance. This repentance doesn
t distract from the novel as a religious allegory, but it does reveal the selfish nature of man. At its core
Robinson Crusoe is a novel about our origins and base desires. As many have suggested, by placing a
man alone on a deserted island Defoe recreates the savage man in his state of nature that both Hobbes
and Locke were so concerned with philosophizing over before Defoe wrote his novel.
Philosophers of the late 17th and early 18th century were questioning the nature of

Perception philosophical problems with Perception
First of all, let us know that what this perception is? In general, perception is the process by which we
acquire the information about the world around us and inside us, using our senses. For example If I
feel that a red car is going by the road and a women is sitting on it, drinking coffee, then first of all I
should have sense that what is car, roads, red, coffee etc. These all perceptions require possession of
concepts, but there exists another class of perception that does not require any possession to perceive
them. Let take example of a busy bus stand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two things always try to defend all the theory of relating perception and reality are illusion and
hallucination. Many scenarios we have seen where these two things are really making ourselves to
scratch our heads. Let s look something on illusion. Illusion is nothing but distortion of our senses. It
is shared sometimes that illusion distort reality, but that is not the case, it is just a thought of some
peoples. As we discussed above also that reality is nothing but, a commonly experienced perception.
Some illusions are due to the general assumptions made by our brain during perception. These
generalizations are made on a theory of human perception, which is called gestalt theory. But the

Sweatshops Thesis Statement
Thesis statement: Sweatshops, when left to operate without government intervention, are the most
efficient way of out poverty.
Introductory rationale: When it comes to social justice issues, most people believe the government
needs to solve the problem. Social justice in sweatshops is no exception. In my research, I have found
that what people see as the cause of injustice in developing countries, sweatshops, are actually what is
responsible for lifting people up out of poverty. As a result, any sort of government regulation will fail
to solve the problem. The audience I am writing for is a diverse group of peers who are concerned
with social justice though they may have different solutions and beliefs about the topic. My goal in
this draft is to expand their knowledge and show them the benefits of not interfering with the free
market.
I. Claim 1: Sweatshops increase the standards of living for the workers and their communities
1. Evidence:
1) Where Sweatshops Are a Dream is a short article in favor of sweatshops. The author talks about
how the living standards rose due to sweatshops when he was a kid (Kristof). This article has a
personal story from the author about improving conditions. This makes for a good pathos argument.
2) In the interview with the Mises Institute called, Sweatshops: A Way Out of Poverty, Powell talks
about how living standards rise in areas with sweatshops as well as how sweatshops actually pay well
in comparison to other jobs (Powell,

  • 2. Prison Vs. Prison Analysis I watched the video and was not surprised about what I had seen. I have relatives that have been in state and local jails and prisons. The way they describe prison life is horrifying. Most of them come they are released from jail or prison say have glad they are to be and is never going back. Of course, for some that was not true. I was often told of how it is harder in prison versus being in jail. It is my opinion for some people being incarcerated in jail or prison is a challenge, simply because of the living conditions and having to follow mandatory rules that is set in place such as when to take a bath, eat, sleep, when to make their beds an even when they are allowed to receive visitors. When thinking about this question it should be very easy to answer, but it not looking at all of the different crimes a person can be charged with; and place in jail or prison for a long period of time. A person can be charged from one year to life without the possibility of parole. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to our reading, early prison were considered to be harsh environments (Siegel, L., Bartollas, C. 2014). Every prison does not holds its prisoners in poor conditions (Clarke, Peter, 2017). Prison is designed to be uncomfortable as the law will allow. It is my opinion that life in jail or prison for an inmate is to try and correct their behavior and to rehabilitate the prisoner to see if he/she are able to function in society. DO I think that jail or prison is too tough or too lenient on inmates? First, I will say it has been too many inmates crime that has committed the same crime and got released early to be able to go back out into society and repeat the same crime or another one a vicious as the first one. Although, some people that a gone to jail or prison that committed a crime and served the sentence has had great success after being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Progesterone Progesterone is a steroid hormone that belongs to a group of sex hormones called progestogen. It is secreted primarily by the placenta (during pregnancy), the corpus luteum and adrenal glands. The corpus luteum is a temporary endocrine gland that is produced in a female body after ovulation and is involved in the early stages of pregnancy. If the eggs are not fertilised, the corpus luteum reverts to a corpus albicans and menstruation takes place. If the egg is fertilized, then progesterone is secreted by the placenta. Progesterone has the chemical formula of C21H30O2. Progesterone is composed of three 6 carbon rings and one 5 carbon ring fused together, satisfying the the structure of a steroid. It contains two ketone groups as well as an alkene group and is a hydrophobic molecule. Progesterone s main function is to prepare the lining of the uterus to accept a fertilized egg and allow for further development into a fetus. During pregnancy, progesterone allows for the development of the milk producing glands in the breasts. Progesterone is also a neurosteroid that allows for normal brain function. It protects the brain from damage and stimulates repair after injury. Some other functions include raising the epidermal growth factor , normalizing blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, progesterone will only carry out its function if the cell contains the intracellular progesterone receptor. These receptors are embedded in the cytoplasm. The progesterone and the progesterone receptor form a covalent bond creating a single unit called a dimer. The dimer then enters the nucleus and binds to the DNA which stimulates the writing of genes and creates RNA that are specific to progesterone. The RNA that was formed is transformed into new protein. This entire process changes the metabolic character of the cell allowing for the cell to carry out tasks specific to the progesterone ... • 4. Soccer Concussions Although soccer is one of the leading sports to cause concussions, I believe that soccer players should be able to head the ball at all ages because it takes away from the fundamentals of the game, and it causes the game to feel unnatural to the players while it also causes players to overthink. On February 16, 2016, the United States Soccer Federation declared that no one under the age of 13 was allowed to head the ball because of the staggering concussion numbers that soccer had brought in. A concussion is any trauma or blow to the head, and some symptoms of a concussion is headache, unconsciousness, nausea, and dizziness. This new rule has made drastic changes to the game that we used to think was soccer. Not enabling heading for soccer players clearly defies the fundamentals of the game because players will, or would, often use their head to propel the ball forward to move away from their defender, but now with the new heading rule, players are not allowed anymore to use their head until they are at least 13. This new rule will forever change the way that soccer will develop all around the United States because players will not be able to use a very useful part of their body until they are a teenager. As stated by Sahar Milani of the American Youth Soccer Organization(AYSO), The new policy includes that an indirect free kick will be awarded to the opposing team if a player age 10 or younger, deliberately touches the ball with his/her head during a game . • 5. Theme Of Incest In The Fall Of The House Of Usher The discourse of incest is considered almost universally as taboo and so is the study of the phenomena of sexual relations between closely related individuals in its diverse manifestations. Literary texts at length have tried to explore incest as social and psychological deviance but the discussion moves to the margins of the narrative into unspoken or rather unspeakable territory. The mainstream discourse prevents the writers from representing and speaking about the theme of incest explicitly. It remains restricted to a marginal space and can be understood only through a deep exploration of the individual characters and the narrative style of the text. Edgar Allen Poe s short story The Fall of the House of Usher, published in 19th century indirectly represents the incestuous love between Usher and his twin sister Madeline. • 7. Importance Of The Micro Economic Environment Activity one: 1.1Explain the importance of the micro economic environment to business organisations: Microeconomics looks at how individual players in the economy, such as households and firms, interact. It focuses on the impact that their economic choices have on the allocation of scarce resources to meet unlimited demand. These interactions match what one party wants or demands in economic term and what the other gives in exchange (supply). Each time someone buys a chocolate bar from a newsagent or undertakes the morning paper round, there s an interaction between supply and demand (ESRC). (P) Demand curve Equilibrium point of D S Supply curve (Q) Fig1.1: equilibrium of consumer demand curve and firm s supply The Above picture clearly illustrate that where the Demand and supply curves intersect, that is called equilibrium point of demand and supply where consumer demand is equal to supply from firms or production sector and Q shows quantity and P shows price. The collective way of all the decisions on demand and supply, use of resources and opportunity costs made by millions of people or firms sets the price for goods, services, assets and labour demand and supply therefore form the main principle that underlines all microeconomics (ESRC). • 10. Cause And Effects Of Tsunamis Tsunamis are one of the most destructive natural disasters. A series of waves in an ocean or lake caused by the displacement of a large body of water is known as a tsunami, meaning harbor wave in Japanese. A tsunami is also known as a tidal wave or seismic sea wave. Their wavelength is much longer than a typical sea wave, therefore tsunamis do not resemble normal undersea currents. Instead of appearing as a breaking wave, a tsunami may instead resemble a very tall tide or wave. Unlike typical wind generated ocean waves, tsunamis are not caused by the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon but instead are generated by the displacement of water. Tsunamis are very destructive and their causes and impact to the environment and to humans show this; so, looking at and understanding a past example of a devastating tsunami and preparing for one in the future can help save lives and lessen the overall damage. There are several main causes of a tsunami. Doubtlessly, the most damaging tsunamis are caused by earthquakes with a fault line near the ocean floor, or even underwater. Researchers from the International Tsunami Research Center say that sudden vertical displacement over large areas, displace water and end up creating destructive tsunami waves (What Causes Tsunamis). Less periodically, submarine landslides can motivate a tsunami. • 11. Mondavi Five Forces Analysis The Five Forces and Mondavi The competitive forces that shape company strategy are very important to consider in any organization. However, they are especially important when an organization s forces fall closer to the intense side on the scale between intense forces and benign forces. Almost no company earns attractive returns on investment when forces are intense, like those in industries that sell luxury goods. (Porter, 2008). Yet, Robert Mondavi s wineries have leveraged the five forces (barriers to entry, bargaining power of suppliers/buyers, threat of substitutes, and competitive rivalry) in order to maintain consistent profits. The five forces are discussed in detail below with the level of importance increasing throughout the descriptions. While bargaining power of buyers is ranked the least important of the five factors for Mondavi s strategy, its importance should not be understated. One of the Wine is typically sold to wholesalers who then distribute to retail outlets. With the decreasing number of wholesalers and the consolidation of retailers, buyers negotiating power is increasing. It is difficult for companies like Mondavi to make consistent profits and maintain market share if they cannot keep products on retailers shelves. The second least important factor in Mondavi s corporate strategy is the threat of substitutes. A substitute offering arises when there is a product in a different industry that can satisfy the same need as the product a company sells. If one looks at wine as an alcoholic beverage, there really is no substitute for wine, as beer and liquor are technically in the same industry. However, if seen as a luxury item that s purpose is for the experience, there are some substitutes for wine. Examples include high end chocolates or cheeses, as customers might desire to be connoisseurs in these two items instead of wine. It would seem that the cost of switching to one of these products would be rather low for customers, indicating there could be some risk. Mondavi does have many competitors in three different areas. The intensity of the rivalry amongst these competitors makes this factor ranked next in importance. Per the case, the three types of competitors are rival ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The term of sensibility emerged as a concept in the Enlightenment Era but continued to be defined during the Romantic period and beyond. This was the first move made by King George III that showed that he intended to use Britain s new land for revenue building during his reign and this patronizing and disrespectful act ignited a series of events that became the American Revolution (Tindall Shi, 2010). Within psychology, it is considered to be a generalized expectancy regarding the forces that determine reinforcement. Therefore, the Levenson Scale is more sufficiently reliable and appropriate. There is evidence to suggest that patients scoring high on the I scale might be better suited to ameliorative and preventive treatment for the sake of recovery (Strickland 1974 cited in Levenson 1981). Additionally, patients participation in health treatment cannot be emphasized more. Individuals that view themselves as masters of destiny are more likely to engage in better adjustment since they have positive expectations and self control which are pivotal determinants with regard to health outcomes (Wallston and Wallston 1978). Roman emperors, including Pompey, Julius Caesar, and Caligula traveled to Alexandria to pay their respects. It all started at the age of 18 when Alexander took charge of the Companion Cavalry and helped his father in defeating the Athenian and Theban armies. Starting from such a young age Alexander has been already shaping the empire he would create. At the age of twenty he became king, then by the age of twenty six he conquered the Persian Empire and at age thirty explored the Indian frontier. He was an unstoppable force conquering the world. Alexander the Great is the greatest conqueror of the known world, because of the personal teachings of Aristotle of Stagira, his innovated military genius and multicultural integration methods. Aristotle is one of the greatest intellectual figures of Western history. Still today we are using his works in philosophy and the sciences. This allowed Alexander to take in vast amounts of knowledge. Aristotle saw the love for learning Alexander had and helped him further his studies. Growing up Alexander was interested in the secrets of medicine. King Philip wanted to give his son the best education he could. He asks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The green and yellow colors of this piece blend together perfectly as to create a great visual pleasure, and the hues of blue and black in the background emphasize the yellows and greens in the foreground, creating a great blend of color. The color pallet is somewhat contrasting as there are green and yellow hues as well as darker colors such as black. Texturing is done quite nicely in this piece as well, with the stars and the ground being great examples of this. In the Butterfly Revolution, boys that age from ten to seven teen attend a summer camp named High Pines. The camp was delightful for the younger boys, but the older boys were not so entertained. The big boys were bored by games that they thought of as games for children (capture the flag, swimming, marshmallow roasts, baseball, etc.) The boys were separated into their cabins by their age. Claudia Garrity Mrs. Proud The Butterfly Revolution, William Butler Lord of the Flies, William Goulding 1 221; 1 208, Response #2 The setting in the two novels plays important roles in both of the plots. In The Butterfly Revolution, the setting shifts in the very beginning of the story. In the journal Winston Weyn receives for his birthday from his uncle, he describes his home. Winston also shares with us that from his parents he half heartedly accepted a trip to High Pines for the summer. Winston was not like most boys, and instead of playing baseball and doing things that most boys do, he read books. This bothered his brother Howard, which just encouraged Winston to read more and more. His father and mother, both concerned, had multiple talks with Winston but none of these talks resulted in anything. And here I am, sitting on a thin and kind of smelly narrow mattress on my bunk in a cabin at High Pines (22). He went from the comfort of his own bed to the smelly mattress of High Pines. The central conflict of the story begins at the camp. This shift of setting allows the real story to begin. Later in the novel, the setting shifts again. Some of the boys begin to venture off into the girls camp, or Low Pines. After the revolution has begun, they take over the girl camp, also. • 28. Critique Of Stephen Seamands Ministry Critique of Stephen Seamands Ministry in the Image of God Trinitarian Ministry Stephen Seamands proffers a Trinitarian description of Christian Ministry as the ministry of Jesus Christ, the Son, to the Father, through the Holy Spirit, for the sake of the church and the world. The author seems to presume that many in the Christian faith have not adequately observed or applied the doctrine of the Trinity significantly in the vocation of ministry. It is with this perception that he postulates a Trinitarian approach of ministry that emphasizes communion with God shaping our language about God to shape our heart so we might share in the life of God. In arriving at his conclusions, Seamands uses well grounded Scriptural foundations, along with a descriptive of the Icon of the Holy Trinity painted in 1425 by a Russian Monk, Andrei Rublev, including the historical significance that is traced back to the Enlightenment, and the findings of renowned theologians beginning with Karl Barth. The preponderance of evidence provided supports the author s contention that the grammar of the Christian faith and life is rooted in the doctrine of the Trinity having created the current Trinitarian renaissance. There are three foundational points in this theological approach that provide comprehension for that which seems beyond understanding God in one being; God in three persons. First, the main idea is centered on joining with Christ in the continuing ministry that substantiates the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In September of 1965, Commander Stockdale ejected from his plane only to be captured by the Vietcong during the Vietnam War. In eight years of captivity, the Northern Vietnamese tortured and isolated Stockdale; and in that time, he observed the actions of his men. This ritual extends beyond my immediate family due to our unusually large numbers: while my grandmother is one of eight children, both my mother and I are one of nine. While these strange familial patterns have never been properly explained, they have created a great way for the bond of the women in each family to go much further. It is also a powerful example of how folklore changed and adapted from Ireland to the United States (particularly to my family). Both this and the giving of the Celtic cross have created a significant tradition that we were able to maintain when we came to the United States. Although the Celtic cross became fashionable as a cemetery marker in Victorian Dublin around the 1860s, it is still an important part of my religious and familial life (Thuente, 56). Socrates interrogates Euthyphro on whether or not is possible to have an objective definite definition of a concept/object. This came to be known as Euthyphro s Dilemma. This argument can be clarified as follows; what is dear to the gods is pious, and what is not is impious : if an object is God love, than the object must be loved by all Gods; therefore, pious objects are those that are necessarily loved by all Gods. (10a). The dilemma emanates when one realizes it is God loved if it is pious, and pious due to being God loved; in this case, piety in itself would be considered irrational in ... Euthyphro s second attempt to define piety is; What is dear to the gods is pious, and what is not is impious (7a). What he s saying is that actions that are pleasing to the gods would be pious and those opposed to them are impious. Socrates didn t agree with this because what s pleasing to one god isn t to another, thus piety cannot be simply what is dear to the gods. In the real world, we could apply this to a religion that serves one God, Christianity. By being a Christian we work to live our lives in a positive way by what s written in the bible. But are our actions pious because God tells us to do so, or does God tell us to do them because they are pious? In comparison to Euthyphro, our actions are pious because God says to do them, while he says if were not pleasing the gods than were not pious. Because we believe that God is omnipotent, we view his work as pious and want to live by his word. Socrates points out that he has yet to answer the question and asks, how can you be so sure that your action is not impious? • 37. The Nature Of Religion In Robinson Crusoe Robinson Crusoe is much more than a novel that focuses on the religion of its fictional character Crusoe, it s a philosophical investigation into the nature of religion. By looking through the philosophical works that preceded Daniel Defoe s novel we can see how it ponders the questions of its time and presents a metaphor of the development of morality, economics and religion. Both, the ideas presented by Thomas Hobbs and Bernard Mandeville s An Enquiry into the Origin of Moral Virtue will serve us well in understanding where Defoe is coming from and how he is actually developing upon theses philosophies. Defoe boldly takes the ideas of his time and applies them to religion in a way that perhaps his contemporaries were afraid to. He posits that religion is an economic construction developed to help us cope with our condition. In many ways Defoe s novel asks questions that were far ahead of their time. To begin this investigation, we must look to the text to find evidence that more is going on here than simple faith. The biggest problem with Crusoe s faith is that it s generally not present during his day to day life. He only prays when he needs something or is terribly fearful of death, then after he overcomes his trial he practically forgets the Lord all together. The first chapter of the book has Crusoe praying for salvation from a nautical storm, he sees his survival as a sign to never go back out to sea again. Yet, in the same chapter he blows off his recent religions resolution claiming to be but a young sailor, and had never known anything of the matter (52). Crusoe s religious fickleness carries on throughout the novel but each act of coming back to God in fear can also be seen as an act of repentance. This repentance doesn t distract from the novel as a religious allegory, but it does reveal the selfish nature of man. At its core Robinson Crusoe is a novel about our origins and base desires. As many have suggested, by placing a man alone on a deserted island Defoe recreates the savage man in his state of nature that both Hobbes and Locke were so concerned with philosophizing over before Defoe wrote his novel. Philosophers of the late 17th and early 18th century were questioning the nature of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introductory rationale: When it comes to social justice issues, most people believe the government needs to solve the problem. Social justice in sweatshops is no exception. In my research, I have found that what people see as the cause of injustice in developing countries, sweatshops, are actually what is responsible for lifting people up out of poverty. As a result, any sort of government regulation will fail to solve the problem.
