Methylcyclohexane Lab Report
Arenes 5. Introduction In this experiment, the relative rates of free radical chain bromination where
determined. Five arenes were used for this comparison along with two controls for each set. One set
was kept in the dark while the other was put under light. This allowed for better observation of the
reactions, as the light set would proceed fast to show which arenes reacted slowest, while the dark set
would proceed slowly to show relative differences between the faster reacting arenes. The time it took
for the arenes to react was recorded to determine the relative rates of the reactions. 6. Data and Results
The five arenes used for this experiment were toluene, ethylbenzene, tert butylbenzene, cyclohexane,
and methylcyclohexane. All solutions were a dark orange right after the addition of bromine. Toluene
had 1º benzylic and 2º aromatic hydrogens. Ethylbenzene had 2º benzylic, 1º aliphatic, and 2º
aromatic hydrogens. tert butylbenzene had 1º aliphatic and 2º aromatic hydrogens. Cyclohexane had
2º aliphatic hydrogens and methylcyclohexane had 1º, 2º, and 3º aliphatic hydrogens. In the set that
was exposed to light, Ethylbenzene was the first to react. It turned from a dark orange color to a
colorless liquid. Next, toluene turned colorless. After that, none of the other solutions turned colorless.
However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More specifically, secondary benzylic hydrogens are more reactive than primary benzylic hydrogens,
which are more reactive than tertiary aliphatic hydrogens and so on. This is due to the fact that
secondary benzylic hydrogens are more accessible than primary benzylic hydrogens due to less steric
hindrance. With less steric hindrance, the transition states formed from secondary benzylic hydrogens
are more stable than transition states formed from primary benzylic hydrogens and therefore the
resulting products are more

Good Neighbor Nextdoor Problem Analysis
The Good Neighbor Nextdoor program seeks to address two problems facing communities across
America Today. The first problem is the shortage of doctors in rural and undesirable communities. The
second problem is the prevalence of blight and vacant housing in many of the same communities
suffering from a shortage of doctors. Both of these problems have solutions, by offering citizenship to
foreign doctors willing to move into communities having both a shortage of doctors and a surplus of
vacant housing. The final benefit offered by the Good Neighbor Nextdoor program will be in the long
term economic growth within the community caused by the opening of a doctor s office in the
neighborhood. The act of placing doctors into struggling communities ... Show more content on

the patients. All of these jobs are better paying than standard minimum wage jobs. In addition, not
only will billing create jobs in the community, but also it will bring in outside money from insurance
companies and government reimbursement programs. The economic benefits my not bear fruit

A Very Long Winded Essay By John Berger
The way in which one views the world and forms an opinion about it is entirely based on what they
have experience throughout their lives. This idea was presented in a very long winded essay by John
Berger. While keeping this idea in the back of my mind I analyze image D form the Orphan Black
Stills that we were provided without any prior knowledge of what story this TV show was supposed to
tell. After viewing the episode in which the still I had chosen to decipher my views on what occurred
changed a surprising amount simply from the context now provided. With context to frame the still it
shows how even a seemingly innocent image can be very different than how it is first presented; even
when viewed in hundreds of different locations simultaneously. This potentially challenges John
Berger belief that the way one sees something is based primarily on a set context highlighted by one s
life experiences; but instead one s life experiences highlight what they see with the context helps them
form their interpretation. John Berger would have in no way considered Orphan Black art; let alone
high art. His reasoning for this is can be summed up with this quote The inherent contradiction in
perspective was that it structured all images of reality to address a single spectator who, unlike god,
could only be in one place at a time. After the invention of the camera this contradiction gradually
became apparent. The camera isolated momentary appearances and in so doing destroyed the

Cognitive Psychology Essay
Cognitive neuroscience categorised as one of the many approaches to human cognition, focuses on the
study of both the brain and behaviour in collaboration. Evidence from such approaches can be used to
understand in depth, the mental processes forming cognition. Consequently, this contributes to our
understanding of the mind. Despite vast development in this field, various challenges are posed as no
single method can answer every question raised due to its limitations and therefore must be combined
in order to produce a more reliable understanding. Cognitive psychology was the first to make
progress in the understanding of these areas and accordingly it can be noticed that the tasks used by
cognitive neuroscientists for brain imaging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brain imaging techniques used by cognitive neuroscientist s aid research into such field by analysing
the different parts of the brain that become active when a certain task is performed. The main
technique that can be discussed in the role of trying to understand the mind is Functional magnetic
resonance imaging. This technique uses an MRI machine to measure brain activity by looking at
changes in one s blood flow. Stern et al, 1996 carried out research into the parts of the brain crucial for
encoding and storage of information in the long term memory store. Using fMRI, participants were
monitored while performing a novel picture encoding task. Evidence was provided to show that the
encoding of these pictures depends on how the ventral cortical regions and the hippocampal region
interact. This highlights a link between the two which therefore creates a valid contribution to our
understanding of the mind as it identifies the parts of the brain crucial for engaging in essential mental
processes. On the other hand, although this link can be identified, the method used by cognitive
neuroscientists cannot explain exactly how the hippocampal formation is crucial in the encoding of
information in long term memory meaning that it cannot be explained as to why it is needed and what
exactly would happen to the encoding process if damage to this formation was to occur. In terms of
the technique itself, low temporal resolution and high expense can be noted as another

Analyzing The Three Mile Island In Age Of Miracles
In the novel, Age of Miracles, the Three Mile Island incident is referenced when Julia state s, People
had been sounding alarms for decades, since the earliest drops of acid rain fell, since the sublest
thinning of the ozone layer, since Chernobyl and Three Mile Island and the oil crisis of the 1970s
(103). Julia compares the Three Mile Island and the slowing to an event where people thought the
world was going to end but then it did not. In Age of Miracles, Julia does not know what to say about
the world ending or if people are gonna die during the slowing. In the sentence mentioned above she
says that if all of these people thought that the accidents above were gonna end the world that the
slowing probably will not. Even though the slowing

Emily Dickinson And Walt Whitman
Steve Jobs advised students that, Your time is limited, so don t waste it living someone else s life. Don
t be trapped by dogma which is living with the results of other people s thinking. Don t let the noise of
other s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow
your heart and intuition... ( You ve Got to Find What You Love ). Job explains to the Graduates of the
Stanford Class of 2005, that in order to be successful one must assert their unique personality, one
must stand up for what they believe in, and one must create their own perspective of the world. In life,
a choice has to be made, to take a stand for what you think is right, or sit passively and listen as peers
debate, Job recommending the former. Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman agree that living life in a
passive manner is not acceptable. The standard of asserting oneself is seen through Walt Whitman s
poem, To a Pupil, in Paul Schutze s photograph Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., as well as in biographical
information about Dickinson and Whitman; however, Dickinson claims in her poem, I m Nobody!
Who are you? that on occasions, it is okay to stay out of the spotlight.
Whitman and Dickinson embraced the idea of nonconformity and taking a stance for their beliefs in
their day to day lives. According to The Academy of Authors, during the second year of the Civil War,
Whitman would spend any excess money he had nursing injured soldiers ( Poet Walt Whitman ).

The experiment could be changed to have a more accurate answer if more frequencies were tested.
This would give a wider range of frequencies to make absolutely sure that every frequency as it gets
lower the wavelength gets longer. This experiment answered my primary question with specific and
meaningful data. The scientific principles that can be learned from this experiment is that as frequency
goes lower the wavelength gets longer. Another scientific fact that can be learned from doing this
experiment is that sound waves are caused by vibrations moving through substances in this
experiment that substance was water. Another scientific fact that can be learned is that sound moves
through water very well. What other substances can sound move through well? Conclusion The data
supports the hypothesis If the frequency of a sound increases, then the wavelengths of a sound will
decrease, because the wavelength is the speed of sound divided by the frequency. The experiment
supported the hypothesis because the experiment showed that the relationship between wavelengths
and frequencies is as hypothesized. In all cases, as frequency increased the wavelength decreased.
When the speed of sound is divided by the frequency the calculated wavelength was not equal to the
measured wavelength. This difference is because standing waves were used for measurements and
standing waves do not have the same constant as the

How Did King George III Changed Our Lives
America gaining independence from Britain was something fought for in the 1700 s. It is something
we can nowadays take pride in. The American Revolution was a group of event that changed our lives
drastically. There were significant hardships that Britain bestowed upon the colonies. The tyrannical
ways King George III controlled the American colonies and unfair acts such as the Stamp Act, the
Intolerable Act and the Boston Massacre. King George III s reign did not make America represent the
land of opportunity, actually it did the opposite. He was largely portrayed as an oppressor to the
American colonies. Profoundly because of the extreme taxation of the American colonies without

The Importance Of Flag Desecration
The first meeting was with Tony Lorenza, the president of American Veterans for the Flag, who
suggested allowing citizens the freedom to desecrate the flag will weaken it. A call that I listened to
later stressed the same issue; should the flag amendment not pass the flag desecration would continue
to weaken the flag. While I do not agree with this opinion, I understand why many may feel this way.
The flag is a symbol of our freedoms, but the flag is a piece of cloth. It only has one purpose, to
represent. Had our forefathers chosen a paperweight it would still represent the same freedoms. I
received another call, this time from a parent whose daughter saw a picture of a man burning the flag,
and then asked why they had to say the pledge of allegiance if the government allowed people to
desecrate the flag. His reasoning for voting for the amendment is the type of example parents would
be setting for their children by not allowing someone to abuse the flag. I m going to assume that he
chose his reasoning with thoughts that showing that he cared about the flag would encourage his
daughter to respect the flag, as it is one of our countries most important symbols. I suppose that by
respecting the flag, one can show that they respect the country, but how would one define the limits to
what can and cannot be done to the flag based on their definition of respect? This is where it would
start to get complicated because we all have different views and there is no guarantee that the

Sustainable Economic Growth And The Success Of A Country
Abstract
Last few decades we have seen a changing notion of what constitutes a successful nation. According
to the old school approach, sustainable economic growth is primarily seen as the best way to make a
successful country . There are a few questions that arise as to what factors contribute to the success of
a country. Is sustainable economic growth the best way to get there?
A country comprises of its citizens and the two most important components contributing to the success
of a country are the health and happiness of its citizens. Wealth becomes an important aspect only in a
manner where it encourages greater well being of the citizens.
Another aspect that we need to consider is that of sustainable well being. The term means maintaining
a balance between environment sustainability and well being. Thus, countries must provide well being
within environmental limits.
Economic growth as measured by gross domestic product doesn t really tell us much about citizens
general well being. Here we will be discussing about the change in approach towards what we
consider a successful nation today.

The Baroque era began in the year 1600, at the end of the Renaissance period (Kamien 99). The word
Baroque has had several different meanings. Back in its time, the word Baroque has meant: Bizarre,
Flamboyant, and Elaborately ornamented. Historians, however, used this word to indicate the
particular style in all different forms of art that fills space; which includes canvas, stone, or sound
(Kamien 99). The Baroque Period is also known as the age of absolutism because so many different
rulers of the time used and abused their royal power to control their subjects. For example, in
Germany, the duke of Weimar imprisoned the famous Johann Sebastian Bach into prison for a month
just because Bach asked to leave his job as the Duke s musician (Kamien 99). This era in time was
also home to scientific discoveries by Newton and Galileo. The Baroque era has shaped the world, as
they knew it, to what the people of the twenty first century all know and love. In music during the
Baroque era, there were two composers that well represented the style of its time, George Frideric
Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach (Kamien 102). Bach was such an important aspect to the Baroque
era that when he died in 1750 it marked the end of the Baroque era pushing the era into the Classical
period (Kamien 102). Other famous

Andrea has learned to cope with life stressors by binge eating food, so Andrea needs to learn healthier

because her binge eating has already led her to obesity, which has its own physical risks like type II
diabetes, metabolic syndrome, arthritis, chronic pain, hypertension, and ulcers (Bulik, Trace, Kleiman

with just talk therapy or just medication. Andrea needs a holistic approach that will target her

I then had to make slide show and lab report.

How The Military Changed My Life
Before I joined the military I was a reckless teenager who had no direction in life. Growing up in the
slums of New York City my days consisted of stealing anything I could get my hands on, smoking
weed, drinking and hanging out with my friends until the early hours of the night. My sense of
accomplishment and achievement came from the fact I graduated high school. I cared for only myself
and I wasn t dedicated to anything that didn t work in my favor. That all changed the day I enlisted in
the United States Navy. Since that very first day of boot camp the military has had a positive effect on
my life and changed me in so many ways.
One change the military has had on me was living with discomfort. Living at home with my mother, I
had all the comforts in the world. Air conditioning, a comfy bed, whatever food I wanted was right
around the corner and privacy. Life in the military is quite rough, especially on a naval vessel.

Seasonal Affective Disorder
Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, is a common problem of people living in northern United States.
People who are affected by this disorder commonly suffer from depression, lethargy, inability to

because of the shortened days. It appears, that due to the deficiency of sunlight some people suffer
from these symptoms. The shortened days have a hormonal effect on the body that causes these
symptoms, and the use of artificial sunlight is the best way to relieve the disorder. It was not until

patient is exposed to the light there is a significant decrease in depression and the craving for
carbohydrates. It is not known if SAD is directly caused by melatonin. We are still not sure what is the
direct cause for the depression of SAD. We do know why people who suffer from SAD crave
carbohydrates. Serotonin is the chemical that regulates a person s appetite for carbohydrate rich foods.
A patient who suffers from SAD, and is given an artificial shot of serotonin called d fenfluramine
leads to a decrease in stress induced eating (Scientific American 1986). In each person blood stream
we have a hormone known as trypton that is a derivative of serotonin. When it enters the central
nervous system and reaches a group of cells called raphe nucli it is converted into serotonin. The
amount of trypton in the blood is increased when carbohydrates are consumed. This may explain why
many people who suffer from SAD have an increase their intake of carbohydrates. In testing results it
patients who suffer from SAD when given an 800 calorie, high carbohydrate meal (six cookies), they
reported feeling vigorous and energized
(Health 1989). A large

Brave New World Analysis
In Aldous Huxley s Brave New World, Bernard Marx discovers the vivid emotion of nature through
his visit to the Savage Reservation, America s last remnant of unadulterated wilderness and humanity
in a bleak, dystopian world. Writing critically on society, Huxley comments on the degradation of
morals, and the rise of a superfluous and perpetually distracted, albeit technologically advanced,
world, amid the dying influence of nature. Similarly, in his 2008 book, Last Child in the Woods,
Richard Louv expresses concern over the widening divide between people and nature, in particular
children and nature. Citizens in Huxley s novel are infatuated with dazzlingly visual entertainment
machines, which provide transitory pleasure; likewise, Americans today have forgone nature for
equally trivial technological pursuits. Louv s sharp critique on the bastardization of nature for short
sighted whims, and his concern about the effects of isolating children from nature, are achieved and
expressed through exploring science s relationship to nature, several subsequent illustrative examples,
and ironic social commentary through these techniques, Louv calls for action to preserve posterity s
interest in and exposure to nature s romantic beauty.
Louv s reportage on the State University of New York s scientific achievement and inclusion of
commentary by Richtel jointly reveal society s enthusiasm about synthetic nature, and thus by
extension the perceived unimportance of true nature.

The Importance Of Fate In The Aeneid
Is life pre ordained? In living, are we consciously making decisions that affect how our lives play out
or are people simply characters preforming from a script containing the information of all of time?
This concept of destiny verses human agency is a common thread through the epic poem, The Aeneid
by Virgil as Aeneas is destined to found Rome, and that Rome that he founds is destined to prevail and
be great. In The Aeneid, destiny is inevitable, because fate is inescapable and will come to pass in
spite of interfering situations as demonstrated in the catalogues of the shield of Aeneas and the
characters presented in the Underworld. Fate is unavoidable, but may not occur in the expected
method as demonstrated by Palinurus in the underworld. This is reminiscent of Greek oracle
prophesies of fate in which the fated future will always occur, but the path along the way is unknown
to humans. Palinurus was foretold [to be] unharmed at sea, yet was amongst those who did not have a
proper burial which brings the truth of the prophecy and fate into question. He had tried to escape
being harmed by being a helmsman, but was still killed because it was his fate. Fate got around the
obstacle of him being at sea, by being knocked overboard, [washed] close inshore in other words away
from the sea, and killed by natives (Virgil 998). It important to note that it was specifically mentioned
multiple times in this section that no god had interfered in this ordeal (Virgil 998). This must therefore
be a work of fate that lead to his death.
Fate occurs regardless of human agency as seen in the tales of Romulus and Remus and Manlius and
the goose. Romulus and Remus were abandoned by their human mother and excepted to die, but they
had a fate to fulfil so could not die. They ended up being cared for by a she wolf who is part of the
natural fate world, not the human controlled world (Virgil 1062).
This notion is continued later on the shield when Manlius, a human, was about to be ambushed whilst
sleeping, but was woken up by the silver goose (Virgil 1062). The Gauls [were] swarming the thickets,
about to seize the fortress, shielded by the shadows of night (Virgil 1063). They were ready. The time

Why Do You Admire Helen Keller
Strong people don t put down others down, they lift them up is a internet sensational quote that means
a lot to me. It means a lot to me because I admire many strong people. These people have never
groaned once while suffering through pain. I admire Helen Keller greatly because she persevered
through being blind and deaf beginning at the age of just six months old. Another strong person that I
admire is my mother. I admire my mother because she has fit time into her daily schedule to take my
sisters and I all kinds of places when she could have been doing other things. I also admire my mother
because she has accomplished many things while going through very hard times. The last person that I
admire the most is my father. My father is the strongest person I know because his body has been
through too many injuries to even count; during those injuries, he never cried once. There ... Show

Keller funded many projects and started many organizations. She wrote a great amount of letters to
ask for donations to fund her projects. Eight of the many letters that she wrote went to eight different
presidents. Helen Keller is known as an inspirational figure. Helen Keller is the most admirable person
in my point of view because of all of her accomplishments.
Secondly, I admire is my mother. My mother has accomplished so many things during hard times. My
mom has accomplished having three children, having a job, taking care of her mother with Alzheimer
s, and many many other things. My mom s mother, my grandmother, was diagnosed with Alzheimer s
Dementia when she fell and hit her head about two years ago. My mom has struggled with taking care
of her and taking care of her children, my sisters and I, along with sending my oldest sister off to
college this year. I want to be just like my mother and I want to be able to handle as much as she does
and not let it take hold of me. My mother is the strongest woman I know. She is truly an inspiration to

Jelly Fish Swarms
One day you decide to go on a boat ride into the ocean. Once you are out you see hundreds of
jellyfish. This can actually happen, it s called a swarm. Jellyfish are very pretty but they can cause lots
of damage. People and business are being affected by swarms of jellyfish but there are ways to control
them. What is a swarm of jellyfish? Jellyfish normally travel in groups called swarms, when these
groups multiply that s when issues arrive. Steve Hay, a plankton ecologist said, Science data shows
that over the past few years there has been an increase in swarms of jellyfish. When these swarms
form they eat tons of larva and fish eggs. There has also been reports of them clogging filters. Beaches
have also been made to close when the swarms

Comparing Schoolsville, By Billy Collins And Carol Ann Duffy
Poets Billy Collins and Carol Ann Duffy educate the public on the student teacher relationship. In
Billy Collins Schoolsville the poem is written from the point of view of a teacher, whereas Carol Ann
Duffy s teacher is written in a student s point of view. The two poets have completely different ideas
of what the school atmosphere is like. For Bill Collins he believes that the teacher holds the role of a
mayor and the students are citizens who all belong to different social classes. As for Carol Ann Duffy,
she believes that students warship teachers because the teacher is the reason for a student s knowledge.
Although the poets do share different opinions they both use poetic devices to develop their phones.
Therefore the poetic devices used are the only common ground the poets have. In schools Billy
Collins presents the idea that the students are categorized by their grades. For example the a students

Carol Ann Duffy uses it to glorify the life as a teacher whereas Billy Collins uses it to make teaching
sound on intolerable. Duffy says when you teach me your hands bless the air. This makes a teacher
sound very heroic as if she s doing the most. As for Billy Collins he makes teaching seem as if it is a
chore by saying sometimes one will appear in a window paper to watch me lecturing the wall paper.
Great poets often differ in opinions but they both know that using poetic devices can build their poem.
Using both metaphors and personification is what led to the development of both poems. Billy Collins
is metaphor of being the mayor and him. Personified the paper is what led to the detection of him
disliking teaching. The same goes for Carolyn Duffy and her metaphor and use metaphors of
personification in making teacher sound holy. The use of poetic devices often leads to the
development of great poems and that becomes clear when they are the chief elements into totally

The Importance Of Instant Gratification
Instant gratification plaguing the U.S workplace?
Since the late 20th century the temptation to fulfill Instant gratification has become more prevalent in
society which has put America in a precarious predicament. In Robert Paul s novel The Impulse
Society: America in the Age of Instant Gratification he claims America has found itself in an era
where we desire extensive indulgence which has made us culturally narcissistic , blinding us from the
value of investment and inducing a high risk lifestyle. This currently has managed to raise concerns
regarding the problems that serve as a detriment to the labor force. with instant gratification even
shaping a newer generation of workers, Millennials who were born in an age where they are used to
technology and social media giving them immediate feedback and results in almost every aspect of
their life. with one notable problem being that decisions influenced by instant gratification seem to be
leading to higher rates of unemployment seen with machines threatening to replace laborers (Derek
Thompson). Former president Nixon goes into claim how work ethic is what allows us to be a
industrial nation and is what allowed us to change from a poor nation to a powerful one over the
course of two centuries (Address to the Nation on Labor Day,1). with this claim, it is pivotal to see the
that contemporary times have encouraged instant gratification which has spread egocentrism in the
workforce. This has resulted in the

Status Of Women In The 1800s
Throughout the twentieth century the status of women has been on a slow, but steady upward slope.
The women of this time worked extremely hard to earn the rights and status we hold today. The
improvements in the status of women were subtle in the beginning. In time though, it became well
known the overall status of women and how they once were viewed was to be changed for the better
in the eyes of society. The change in women s status included but was not limited to: improvement in
their every day work atmosphere, voting rights were given, and the ability to be noticed for their hard
work was achieved. Solely the women themselves did not achieve the noticeable improvement in the
status of women; the federal government played a large role in the improvement as well. The federal
governments involvement included but was not limited to: maximum laws ... Show more content on

By the early 1900 s the percentage of women who worked out side the home worked in factories.
Factories were unclean, held no proper safety regulations, and required the women to work long hour
shifts. The average shift for a women working in the factories at this time was excessively long.
Because the women were working these long hours they felt they needed to be heard when it came to
the complaints they had. The 25 percent of women that made up the work force were a crucial factor
in the ever growing U.S economy. In their ability to provide the U.S with essential economic power
the women gained so called public visibility. The ability for women to be in the work force signified
the beginning of true modernity in female roles. The newfound visibility and forcefulness of women
in the work force would lead to their later well earned rights. Meanwhile, the men who worked in the
factories faced the same harsh conditions as the women and were subject to working long shifts as

The Economic Growth And Development Of A Country
Over the years, there has been much debate over whether the state plays a role in the economic growth
and development of a country. Some believe that the state is essential, arguing that its intervention
promotes investment, mobilizes industry and capital, and creates jobs. Some view it as an obstacle,
claiming that its role should be deregulated and reduced because its involvement can lead to market
distortions and corruption. Some do not like either argument, declaring that the state is less important
compared to other factors in determining the development trajectory of a country. These factors
include geography, ethnic diversity, conflict, and political institution. I believe that the last position is
the strongest; while the state does play an important role in growth, it is not the most important. I
believe that the political institution a country operates under is more significant to dissecting this
relationship than the intervention of the state. First off, what are the arguments in favor of the
correlation between the state and economic development? One argument is that the state provides
structure and order, which in turn reassures domestic and foreign investors, giving them an incentive
to invest. A state provides order by controlling violence, as told by Robert Bates in The Formation of
States. Bates describes how the rise in prosperity in 14th and 15th century Europe led to an increase in
violence and conflict. As the value of agricultural land and its

Ronald Reagan s Reaganomics
Ronald Wilson Reagan was born on February 6, 1911, in Tampico, Illinois. He was the 40th President
of the US, and was a Republican party candidate that served for two terms (1981 1989). I believe
Ronald Reagan had a successful presidency because he ended the Cold War, developed Reaganomics ,
and revitalized the GOP.
Ronald Reagan was president during the Cold War era. During this era, communism was becoming a
major threat in the world, and the Soviet Union was a major communist power. Reagan did not like
the Soviet Union, calling them an evil empire , and he believed that the US not only had a foreign
policy duty to oppose but a moral duty to compete with the USSR as well. Reagan knew that if the
USSR could be weakened, that it could bring an end to the Cold war, therefore, he developed the
Reagan Doctrine. The Reagan Doctrine was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The economy at the end of Jimmy Carter s term was in a recession, as inflation was high and so was
federal spending. Reagan wanted to develop his own economic policy, as he claimed an undue tax
burden, excessive government regulation, and massive social spending programs restricted economic
growth. Therefore, Reagan develops a new tax program, at which is now referred to as Reaganomics .
This plan began with Reagan s Economic Recovery Tax Act of 1981, aggressively cutting income
taxes from 70 percent to 28 percent for the top income tax rate, and from 48 percent to 34 percent for
the corporate tax rate by the end of his term. Reagan did this because of his knowledge in Trickle
down economics, as he knew that the wealthy played a large role in that of the lower and middle class
economies. Reagan also began his work with employment, as he created 20 million new jobs and
Unemployment fell from 7.6% to 5.5% by 1988. His battle on inflation was also a success, as Inflation
dropped from 13.5% in 1980 to 4.1% by the end of his

Drug Testing And The Workplace
In many years, companies adopted many programs to monitor substance abuse in the workplace. The
implementation of drug testing by companies grew in recent years. American workers have seen a
dramatic increase in the use of drug testing in the previous years. Drug testing is implemented to
assure safe workplaces for American workers. Drug testing can reduce the company s health care and
insurance costs. Even though drug testing has become common in the workplace, there is little
research that exists regarding this matter. Overall, drug testing affects the decisions of workers by
adopting a zero tolerance policy. Experienced users try to beat these tests by using drug to cancel the
tracking of the drug itself. These workers attempt to avoid the detection of drug use for long periods
(Borack, 1995). Literature implies that employee drug use in the workplace may create high costs to
firms in the form of lower productivity, increased absences, and an increase in workplace accidents.
As a response to these costs, employers have implemented a variety of policies and programs to
decrease employee drug use. Educational programs and standards such as Zero Tolerance policies,
employers have turned to drug testing programs more in the past decades. About 46 percent of
American workers report that their employer conducts drug testing, although other sources indicate
that 90 percent of Fortune 200 companies use some type of drug testing (Flynn 1999). The factor

  • 2. Methylcyclohexane Lab Report Arenes 5. Introduction In this experiment, the relative rates of free radical chain bromination where determined. Five arenes were used for this comparison along with two controls for each set. One set was kept in the dark while the other was put under light. This allowed for better observation of the reactions, as the light set would proceed fast to show which arenes reacted slowest, while the dark set would proceed slowly to show relative differences between the faster reacting arenes. The time it took for the arenes to react was recorded to determine the relative rates of the reactions. 6. Data and Results The five arenes used for this experiment were toluene, ethylbenzene, tert butylbenzene, cyclohexane, and methylcyclohexane. All solutions were a dark orange right after the addition of bromine. Toluene had 1º benzylic and 2º aromatic hydrogens. Ethylbenzene had 2º benzylic, 1º aliphatic, and 2º aromatic hydrogens. tert butylbenzene had 1º aliphatic and 2º aromatic hydrogens. Cyclohexane had 2º aliphatic hydrogens and methylcyclohexane had 1º, 2º, and 3º aliphatic hydrogens. In the set that was exposed to light, Ethylbenzene was the first to react. It turned from a dark orange color to a colorless liquid. Next, toluene turned colorless. After that, none of the other solutions turned colorless. However, ... More specifically, secondary benzylic hydrogens are more reactive than primary benzylic hydrogens, which are more reactive than tertiary aliphatic hydrogens and so on. This is due to the fact that secondary benzylic hydrogens are more accessible than primary benzylic hydrogens due to less steric hindrance. With less steric hindrance, the transition states formed from secondary benzylic hydrogens are more stable than transition states formed from primary benzylic hydrogens and therefore the resulting products are more ... • 3. Good Neighbor Nextdoor Problem Analysis The Good Neighbor Nextdoor program seeks to address two problems facing communities across America Today. The first problem is the shortage of doctors in rural and undesirable communities. The second problem is the prevalence of blight and vacant housing in many of the same communities suffering from a shortage of doctors. Both of these problems have solutions, by offering citizenship to foreign doctors willing to move into communities having both a shortage of doctors and a surplus of vacant housing. The final benefit offered by the Good Neighbor Nextdoor program will be in the long term economic growth within the community caused by the opening of a doctor s office in the neighborhood. • 4. A Very Long Winded Essay By John Berger The way in which one views the world and forms an opinion about it is entirely based on what they have experience throughout their lives. This idea was presented in a very long winded essay by John Berger. While keeping this idea in the back of my mind I analyze image D form the Orphan Black Stills that we were provided without any prior knowledge of what story this TV show was supposed to tell. After viewing the episode in which the still I had chosen to decipher my views on what occurred changed a surprising amount simply from the context now provided. With context to frame the still it shows how even a seemingly innocent image can be very different than how it is first presented; even when viewed in hundreds of different locations simultaneously. This potentially challenges John Berger belief that the way one sees something is based primarily on a set context highlighted by one s life experiences; but instead one s life experiences highlight what they see with the context helps them form their interpretation. John Berger would have in no way considered Orphan Black art; let alone high art. His reasoning for this is can be summed up with this quote The inherent contradiction in perspective was that it structured all images of reality to address a single spectator who, unlike god, could only be in one place at a time. After the invention of the camera this contradiction gradually became apparent. The camera isolated momentary appearances and in so doing destroyed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Cognitive Psychology Essay Cognitive neuroscience categorised as one of the many approaches to human cognition, focuses on the study of both the brain and behaviour in collaboration. Evidence from such approaches can be used to understand in depth, the mental processes forming cognition. Consequently, this contributes to our understanding of the mind. Despite vast development in this field, various challenges are posed as no single method can answer every question raised due to its limitations and therefore must be combined in order to produce a more reliable understanding. Cognitive psychology was the first to make progress in the understanding of these areas and accordingly it can be noticed that the tasks used by cognitive neuroscientists for brain imaging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brain imaging techniques used by cognitive neuroscientist s aid research into such field by analysing the different parts of the brain that become active when a certain task is performed. The main technique that can be discussed in the role of trying to understand the mind is Functional magnetic resonance imaging. This technique uses an MRI machine to measure brain activity by looking at changes in one s blood flow. Stern et al, 1996 carried out research into the parts of the brain crucial for encoding and storage of information in the long term memory store. Using fMRI, participants were monitored while performing a novel picture encoding task. Evidence was provided to show that the encoding of these pictures depends on how the ventral cortical regions and the hippocampal region interact. This highlights a link between the two which therefore creates a valid contribution to our understanding of the mind as it identifies the parts of the brain crucial for engaging in essential mental processes. On the other hand, although this link can be identified, the method used by cognitive neuroscientists cannot explain exactly how the hippocampal formation is crucial in the encoding of information in long term memory meaning that it cannot be explained as to why it is needed and what exactly would happen to the encoding process if damage to this formation was to occur. In terms of the technique itself, low temporal resolution and high expense can be noted as another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Emily Dickinson And Walt Whitman Steve Jobs advised students that, Your time is limited, so don t waste it living someone else s life. Don t be trapped by dogma which is living with the results of other people s thinking. Don t let the noise of other s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition... ( You ve Got to Find What You Love ). Job explains to the Graduates of the Stanford Class of 2005, that in order to be successful one must assert their unique personality, one must stand up for what they believe in, and one must create their own perspective of the world. In life, a choice has to be made, to take a stand for what you think is right, or sit passively and listen as peers debate, Job recommending the former. Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman agree that living life in a passive manner is not acceptable. The standard of asserting oneself is seen through Walt Whitman s poem, To a Pupil, in Paul Schutze s photograph Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., as well as in biographical information about Dickinson and Whitman; however, Dickinson claims in her poem, I m Nobody! Who are you? that on occasions, it is okay to stay out of the spotlight. Whitman and Dickinson embraced the idea of nonconformity and taking a stance for their beliefs in their day to day lives. According to The Academy of Authors, during the second year of the Civil War, Whitman would spend any excess money he had nursing injured soldiers ( Poet Walt Whitman ). ... This would give a wider range of frequencies to make absolutely sure that every frequency as it gets lower the wavelength gets longer. This experiment answered my primary question with specific and meaningful data. The scientific principles that can be learned from this experiment is that as frequency goes lower the wavelength gets longer. Another scientific fact that can be learned from doing this experiment is that sound waves are caused by vibrations moving through substances in this experiment that substance was water. Another scientific fact that can be learned is that sound moves through water very well. What other substances can sound move through well? Conclusion The data supports the hypothesis If the frequency of a sound increases, then the wavelengths of a sound will decrease, because the wavelength is the speed of sound divided by the frequency. The experiment supported the hypothesis because the experiment showed that the relationship between wavelengths and frequencies is as hypothesized. In all cases, as frequency increased the wavelength decreased. When the speed of sound is divided by the frequency the calculated wavelength was not equal to the measured wavelength. This difference is because standing waves were used for measurements and standing waves do not have the same constant as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Importance Of Flag Desecration The first meeting was with Tony Lorenza, the president of American Veterans for the Flag, who suggested allowing citizens the freedom to desecrate the flag will weaken it. A call that I listened to later stressed the same issue; should the flag amendment not pass the flag desecration would continue to weaken the flag. While I do not agree with this opinion, I understand why many may feel this way. The flag is a symbol of our freedoms, but the flag is a piece of cloth. It only has one purpose, to represent. Had our forefathers chosen a paperweight it would still represent the same freedoms. I received another call, this time from a parent whose daughter saw a picture of a man burning the flag, and then asked why they had to say the pledge of allegiance if the government allowed people to desecrate the flag. His reasoning for voting for the amendment is the type of example parents would be setting for their children by not allowing someone to abuse the flag. I m going to assume that he chose his reasoning with thoughts that showing that he cared about the flag would encourage his daughter to respect the flag, as it is one of our countries most important symbols. I suppose that by respecting the flag, one can show that they respect the country, but how would one define the limits to what can and cannot be done to the flag based on their definition of respect? This is where it would start to get complicated because we all have different views and there is no guarantee that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the old school approach, sustainable economic growth is primarily seen as the best way to make a successful country . There are a few questions that arise as to what factors contribute to the success of a country. Is sustainable economic growth the best way to get there? A country comprises of its citizens and the two most important components contributing to the success of a country are the health and happiness of its citizens. Wealth becomes an important aspect only in a manner where it encourages greater well being of the citizens. Another aspect that we need to consider is that of sustainable well being. The term means maintaining a balance between environment sustainability and well being. Thus, countries must provide well being within environmental limits. The Baroque era began in the year 1600, at the end of the Renaissance period (Kamien 99). The word Baroque has had several different meanings. Back in its time, the word Baroque has meant: Bizarre, Flamboyant, and Elaborately ornamented. Historians, however, used this word to indicate the particular style in all different forms of art that fills space; which includes canvas, stone, or sound (Kamien 99). The Baroque Period is also known as the age of absolutism because so many different rulers of the time used and abused their royal power to control their subjects. For example, in Germany, the duke of Weimar imprisoned the famous Johann Sebastian Bach into prison for a month just because Bach asked to leave his job as the Duke s musician (Kamien 99). This era in time was also home to scientific discoveries by Newton and Galileo. The Baroque era has shaped the world, as they knew it, to what the people of the twenty first century all know and love. In music during the Baroque era, there were two composers that well represented the style of its time, George Frideric Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach (Kamien 102). Bach was such an important aspect to the Baroque era that when he died in 1750 it marked the end of the Baroque era pushing the era into the Classical period (Kamien 102). Other famous ... According to the DSM 5, Andrea meets all of the diagnostic criteria for BED and the disordered eating is not associated with the compensatory behavior of anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. She experiences recurrent episodes of binge eating that are characterized by inappropriate amounts of food several eggs, toast, and juice for breakfast or many bowls of cereal, a few sandwiches with whole sleeves of cookies, chips, and cheese for lunch. Andrea claims she did not feel out of control when deciding to eat, as she thought she could stop when she was finished. This, however, did not happen, and Andrea spends much of her time fighting urges to eat. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Andrea has learned to cope with life stressors by binge eating food, so Andrea needs to learn healthier coping skills. In addition, it is important that Andrea sees a medical doctor as well as a therapist because her binge eating has already led her to obesity, which has its own physical risks like type II diabetes, metabolic syndrome, arthritis, chronic pain, hypertension, and ulcers (Bulik, Trace, Kleiman Mazzeo, p. 499, 2014). It would be irresponsible as a counselor or a medical doctor to treat Andrea with just talk therapy or just medication. Andrea needs a holistic approach that will target her disordered eating through cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, nutritional counseling, and possibly psychotropic medications to help with depression, anxiety, obsession and compulsion. Since many people who suffer with BED have a history that dates back to their childhood (Bulik, Trace, Kleiman Mazzeo, p. 499, 2014), it is vital that a counselor explores this start with talk ... Growing up in the slums of New York City my days consisted of stealing anything I could get my hands on, smoking weed, drinking and hanging out with my friends until the early hours of the night. My sense of accomplishment and achievement came from the fact I graduated high school. I cared for only myself and I wasn t dedicated to anything that didn t work in my favor. That all changed the day I enlisted in the United States Navy. Since that very first day of boot camp the military has had a positive effect on my life and changed me in so many ways. One change the military has had on me was living with discomfort. Living at home with my mother, I had all the comforts in the world. Air conditioning, a comfy bed, whatever food I wanted was right around the corner and privacy. Life in the military is quite rough, especially on a naval vessel. Immediately I had to learn ... • 23. Seasonal Affective Disorder Essay Seasonal Affective Disorder Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, is a common problem of people living in northern United States. People who are affected by this disorder commonly suffer from depression, lethargy, inability to concentrate, overeating and weight gain. People from the north tend to suffer more from this disorder because of the shortened days. It appears, that due to the deficiency of sunlight some people suffer from these symptoms. The shortened days have a hormonal effect on the body that causes these symptoms, and the use of artificial sunlight is the best way to relieve the disorder. It was not until recently that SAD was discovered. It was discovered by Peter Mueller, who was reviewing a case of a 29 year old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The findings were that melatonin levels were greatly decreased. The decline in melatonin usually happens in the early morning, but in a SAD patient this does not occur until about two hours later. In order to suppress the levels the patient needs to be exposed to sunlight. It is found, that when the patient is exposed to the light there is a significant decrease in depression and the craving for carbohydrates. It is not known if SAD is directly caused by melatonin. We are still not sure what is the direct cause for the depression of SAD. We do know why people who suffer from SAD crave carbohydrates. Serotonin is the chemical that regulates a person s appetite for carbohydrate rich foods. A patient who suffers from SAD, and is given an artificial shot of serotonin called d fenfluramine leads to a decrease in stress induced eating (Scientific American 1986). In each person blood stream we have a hormone known as trypton that is a derivative of serotonin. When it enters the central nervous system and reaches a group of cells called raphe nucli it is converted into serotonin. The amount of trypton in the blood is increased when carbohydrates are consumed. This may explain why many people who suffer from SAD have an increase their intake of carbohydrates. In testing results it patients who suffer from SAD when given an 800 calorie, high carbohydrate meal (six cookies), they reported feeling vigorous and energized (Health 1989). A large ... • 24. Brave New World Analysis In Aldous Huxley s Brave New World, Bernard Marx discovers the vivid emotion of nature through his visit to the Savage Reservation, America s last remnant of unadulterated wilderness and humanity in a bleak, dystopian world. Writing critically on society, Huxley comments on the degradation of morals, and the rise of a superfluous and perpetually distracted, albeit technologically advanced, world, amid the dying influence of nature. Similarly, in his 2008 book, Last Child in the Woods, Richard Louv expresses concern over the widening divide between people and nature, in particular children and nature. Citizens in Huxley s novel are infatuated with dazzlingly visual entertainment machines, which provide transitory pleasure; likewise, Americans today have forgone nature for equally trivial technological pursuits. Louv s sharp critique on the bastardization of nature for short sighted whims, and his concern about the effects of isolating children from nature, are achieved and expressed through exploring science s relationship to nature, several subsequent illustrative examples, and ironic social commentary through these techniques, Louv calls for action to preserve posterity s interest in and exposure to nature s romantic beauty. Louv s reportage on the State University of New York s scientific achievement and inclusion of commentary by Richtel jointly reveal society s enthusiasm about synthetic nature, and thus by extension the perceived unimportance of true nature. ... • 25. The Importance Of Fate In The Aeneid Is life pre ordained? In living, are we consciously making decisions that affect how our lives play out or are people simply characters preforming from a script containing the information of all of time? This concept of destiny verses human agency is a common thread through the epic poem, The Aeneid by Virgil as Aeneas is destined to found Rome, and that Rome that he founds is destined to prevail and be great. In The Aeneid, destiny is inevitable, because fate is inescapable and will come to pass in spite of interfering situations as demonstrated in the catalogues of the shield of Aeneas and the characters presented in the Underworld. Fate is unavoidable, but may not occur in the expected method as demonstrated by Palinurus in the underworld. This is reminiscent of Greek oracle prophesies of fate in which the fated future will always occur, but the path along the way is unknown to humans. Palinurus was foretold [to be] unharmed at sea, yet was amongst those who did not have a proper burial which brings the truth of the prophecy and fate into question. He had tried to escape being harmed by being a helmsman, but was still killed because it was his fate. Fate got around the obstacle of him being at sea, by being knocked overboard, [washed] close inshore in other words away from the sea, and killed by natives (Virgil 998). It important to note that it was specifically mentioned multiple times in this section that no god had interfered in this ordeal (Virgil 998). This must therefore be a work of fate that lead to his death. Fate occurs regardless of human agency as seen in the tales of Romulus and Remus and Manlius and the goose. Romulus and Remus were abandoned by their human mother and excepted to die, but they had a fate to fulfil so could not die. They ended up being cared for by a she wolf who is part of the natural fate world, not the human controlled world (Virgil 1062). This notion is continued later on the shield when Manlius, a human, was about to be ambushed whilst sleeping, but was woken up by the silver goose (Virgil 1062). The Gauls [were] swarming the thickets, about to seize the fortress, shielded by the shadows of night (Virgil 1063). They were ready. The time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Billy Collins Schoolsville the poem is written from the point of view of a teacher, whereas Carol Ann Duffy s teacher is written in a student s point of view. The two poets have completely different ideas of what the school atmosphere is like. For Bill Collins he believes that the teacher holds the role of a mayor and the students are citizens who all belong to different social classes. As for Carol Ann Duffy, she believes that students warship teachers because the teacher is the reason for a student s knowledge. Although the poets do share different opinions they both use poetic devices to develop their phones. Therefore the poetic devices used are the only common ground the poets have. • 29. The Importance Of Instant Gratification Instant gratification plaguing the U.S workplace? Since the late 20th century the temptation to fulfill Instant gratification has become more prevalent in society which has put America in a precarious predicament. In Robert Paul s novel The Impulse Society: America in the Age of Instant Gratification he claims America has found itself in an era where we desire extensive indulgence which has made us culturally narcissistic , blinding us from the value of investment and inducing a high risk lifestyle. This currently has managed to raise concerns regarding the problems that serve as a detriment to the labor force. with instant gratification even shaping a newer generation of workers, Millennials who were born in an age where they are used to technology and social media giving them immediate feedback and results in almost every aspect of their life. with one notable problem being that decisions influenced by instant gratification seem to be leading to higher rates of unemployment seen with machines threatening to replace laborers (Derek Thompson). Former president Nixon goes into claim how work ethic is what allows us to be a industrial nation and is what allowed us to change from a poor nation to a powerful one over the course of two centuries (Address to the Nation on Labor Day,1). with this claim, it is pivotal to see the that contemporary times have encouraged instant gratification which has spread egocentrism in the workforce. The women of this time worked extremely hard to earn the rights and status we hold today. The improvements in the status of women were subtle in the beginning. In time though, it became well known the overall status of women and how they once were viewed was to be changed for the better in the eyes of society. The change in women s status included but was not limited to: improvement in their every day work atmosphere, voting rights were given, and the ability to be noticed for their hard work was achieved. • 31. The Economic Growth And Development Of A Country Over the years, there has been much debate over whether the state plays a role in the economic growth and development of a country. Some believe that the state is essential, arguing that its intervention promotes investment, mobilizes industry and capital, and creates jobs. Some view it as an obstacle, claiming that its role should be deregulated and reduced because its involvement can lead to market distortions and corruption. Some do not like either argument, declaring that the state is less important compared to other factors in determining the development trajectory of a country. These factors include geography, ethnic diversity, conflict, and political institution. I believe that the last position is the strongest; while the state does play an important role in growth, it is not the most important. I believe that the political institution a country operates under is more significant to dissecting this relationship than the intervention of the state. First off, what are the arguments in favor of the correlation between the state and economic development? One argument is that the state provides structure and order, which in turn reassures domestic and foreign investors, giving them an incentive to invest. A state provides order by controlling violence, as told by Robert Bates in The Formation of States. Bates describes how the rise in prosperity in 14th and 15th century Europe led to an increase in violence and conflict. As the value of agricultural land and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Drug Testing And The Workplace In many years, companies adopted many programs to monitor substance abuse in the workplace. The implementation of drug testing by companies grew in recent years. American workers have seen a dramatic increase in the use of drug testing in the previous years. Drug testing is implemented to assure safe workplaces for American workers. Drug testing can reduce the company s health care and insurance costs. Even though drug testing has become common in the workplace, there is little research that exists regarding this matter. Overall, drug testing affects the decisions of workers by adopting a zero tolerance policy. Experienced users try to beat these tests by using drug to cancel the tracking of the drug itself. These workers attempt to avoid the detection of drug use for long periods (Borack, 1995). Literature implies that employee drug use in the workplace may create high costs to firms in the form of lower productivity, increased absences, and an increase in workplace accidents. As a response to these costs, employers have implemented a variety of policies and programs to decrease employee drug use. Educational programs and standards such as Zero Tolerance policies, employers have turned to drug testing programs more in the past decades. About 46 percent of American workers report that their employer conducts drug testing, although other sources indicate that 90 percent of Fortune 200 companies use some type of drug testing (Flynn 1999).
