This document outlines the objectives and exercises for Chapter 1 of the course INFO 2701 – FOUNDATION OF QUANTIATIVE ANALYSIS. The chapter introduces basic concepts in statistics including differentiating between data and information, populations and samples, parameters and statistics, the two main branches of statistics, types of data and levels of measurement, methods of data collection, sampling techniques, and key terms like confounding variables, placebo effects, and randomization. Students are asked to define and provide examples for each topic.
