How Did Ben Tillman Influence South Carolina
By 1892, South Carolina had fallen under the spell of one single man, Benjamin Ryan Tillman, often
called Ben Tillman. Who is Ben Tillman, how did he manage to control South Carolina and why was
he able to shape South Carolina into the state it is today? Ben Tillman was born August 11, 1847 in
Trenton, South Carolina to Sophia Hancock and Benjamin Ryan Tillman. Ben thought of himself as a
dirt farmer , but was actually purely flourishing. He owned a 2,200 acre farm with a total of 30
workers. Just like his fellow farmer buddies , Tillman came close to losing everything in the 1880s.
Before Ben Tillman came along to save the day many farmers were saddened due to the decline of
income, high railroad shipping charges, and high interest rates ... Show more content on

Tillman had multiple political ambitions and wanted to be a governor. At the Farmer s Convention,
Tillman s followers, also known as Tillmanites, used deceitful strategies to secure the idea of their
hero becoming the Democratic Party s choice for governor. With the nod from the Convention,
Tillman gained the encouragement from approximately all the Democrats immediately winning the
election against A. C. Haskell. Not only did Ben win the election, he also won control over the
General Assembly and kept control through his entire two terms as governor. Throughout his terms
Tillman and the Tillmanites did not show much interest is achieving the goals of the farmers and
Populist who supported him. But he did show interest in punishing his enemies, especially Wade
Hampton. Tillman s first action as governor was to cease the Senate career of Wade Hampton. With
his manipulative powers, he was able to persuade the Democrats in the General Assembly to vote
Hampton out of office. Another goal of Tillman as governor was to improve agricultural education. He
achieved his goal by lashing out at the University of South Carolina and renamed it South Carolina
College, fired some staff, and shut down its new agricultural study department to make Clemson the
state s prime agricultural college. Tillman also furthered the education for women by administering the
assembly of a new campus for

From Suffering To Overcoming By John Walsh
From Suffering to Overcoming Imagine taking your young child with you to run errands. You race
into Target and then are delayed as you search for the one item you need. In that one moment, your
child walks off to find the toy section. You begin to search around you and then quickly become
frantic. Your mind takes you places you have always feared. What if someone has taken my baby?
This scene and other similar to it are far too familiar in our world.
An estimated 797,000 children are reported missing in one year, however, only approximately 100 of
them are stereotypical kidnappings (Martindale 6). Many times children that are reported missing have
either run away or cannot be found for a few hours. Only a handful are taken for ransom and against
their own will. The stereotypical kidnapping, which is very rare, involves abduction by a stranger or
slight acquaintance who detains the child overnight, transports him or her at least 50 miles, holds the
child for ransom or intends to keep him permanently, or kills the child (Martindale 6). John Walsh,
host of America s Most Wanted, criminal investigator, and loving father of Adam Walsh has placed his
mark on a world full of corruption and dangerous crimes. After the murder of his son, John Walsh
used this tragic event as a motivation and inspiration to become passionate for the safety of others. He
has been able to bring some safety to a world that is full of treacherous and life threatening people,
save many lives, and

The Progression of Film
The biggest problem humans have been having since the dawn of time is, how do we entertain
ourselves? . One would assume it began with fire, something that aroused the eyes and entertained the
mind.Though fire may have been the beginning, centuries upon centuries later a much more highly
intelligent form of entertainment revolutionized the world, motion pictures. In the dog eat dog world
of entertainment Film reigns alpha dog. Film has some of the biggest influence on the world around
us. It shapes our adolescence, teaching foreign things to the young developing mind. Cinema has
spurred riots, love, and murder. So the question is, whats are these powerful pieces of art? I am going
to make a name for myself. If I fail, you will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Motion pictures became the leading attractions on the vaudville bill. Owners of vaudeville theaters
could choose the filmt they desired from the Edison inventory and show them in whatever order they
pleased. The Edison Company developed a more efficient projector known as the Projectoscope or
Projecting Kinetoscope in November 1896, and abandoned marketing the Vitascope (About). In the
modern world of Film, money rules all. Critic reviews have little to do with the status of your film,
production companies are typically intersted box office results. In the media, films that gross the
highest are considered the best, but some patrons of cinema disagree. Many cult films such as
Napoleon Dynamite or Dazed and Confused did poorly in the boxoffices and are now considered
classics. This is where the politics of a sort come to play in the industry. Many directors and writers
are creating works of art, in which they pour their feelings into, yet the media occasionally portrays
major production companies as only being concerned with financial profit. It can create quite a quarel
between the creators and the companies covering the costs. Due to ticket inflattion and the changing of
currency values, it is difficult to determine what is the highest grossing films through the entire history
of motion pictures. Some say Snow White did amazing in the box office and could even compare to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of ASP, Sales And Sales And...
.2.1 Introduction
Every company or firm requires CRM to handle its sales and marketing activities. The manual
processes of CRM are now replaced with automated services like SFA and EMA.
The latest trend with respect to software services is to lease or hire the services. The increasing costs
of installing software and the complexities involved in creating an infrastructure, and human resources
to maintain and manage the technical aspects have given rise to this trend. As a result a business
model where a particular organisation provides computer services to its various companies. These
organisations or third party entities are called Application Service providers or ASPs. These ASPs
have bought down the costs to a great extent. These have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

are also a few more examples of free ASP tools. Besides, there are paid ASP services also. So how
does ASP operate? It operates as given below.
 The software provider owns the software, the hardware like servers and resources like the support
team
 The software provider makes the software available to the customers through Internet
 And the customer pays the service provider on a fixed model that is, on a monthly basis or per use
format.
c) Advantages and disadvantages of implementing ASP:
The advantages of implementing ASP is that, this model helps in saving time and cost involved in
implementing a technological infrastructure, like servers, network software, database etc. Besides this,
each time software updations happen, expert support is provided by the service provider. However, the
service terms and conditions are to be defined. Besides, these some more advantages are listed here.
Elimination of Software integration problems from the client s premises
The cost of the software application is spread over a number of clients
The service providers gain more experience in the application than the internal staff
The maintenance and management of the software systems is taken care of by experts from service

Techniques and Concerns of Modernism
Demonstrate your understanding of the context and values of Modernism by close analysis of the
techniques and concerns of Modernism that are reflected in one poem and one short story. Modernism
as a movement is an artistic reaction to the conventional art and literature of mid to late 19th century.
World War I introduced advanced technology and the introduction of industrialisation provoked
Modernist writers to express their concerns about the changing society and the complexities it of
through their works. Urban alienation, the meaning of life as well as inner psychological perspectives
are some issues explored through the experimentation of new literary techniques as the progression

Due to the need to prove the effects of the harshness of reality, the modernist concerns of the post
World War I period resulted in changing views on traditional Victorian values and a loss of ontological
ground. The Modernist movement saw a break from traditional Victorian values such as having sex
after marriage and the perception of sex before marriage and its consequences which is illustrated
through Hills Like White Elephants . Hemingway explores the complex thoughts of the characters Fig
and the man through non linear structure of dialogue. The process of abortion is new to the woman
who tries to receive reassurance from the man but through stream of consciousness, it is apparent that
the man is all too accepting of the abortion and desensitised to it They just let the air in and then it s all
perfectly natural. Hemingway portrays the man as an insensitive human as he continues to proclaim
that the abortion is nothing and that he will love her regardless of her choice. The human condition is
also explored in Hills Like White Elephant where the meaning of life is questioned and freedom from
the burdensome pregnancy. Hemingway reflects that society has become numb to issues such as
abortion, hinting that unwanted pregnancies as a product of sex before marriage prevailed in the post

Dual Tasking And Cognitive Tasks
Dual tasking is the simultaneous execution of two tasks, (McArdle, 2015) these tasks include two
elementary cognitive tasks (ECT), or secondary tasks. ECTs are basic tasks which require a small
number of mental processes (Caroll, 1993.) Dual tasking is the combination of two ECTs. Main
cognitive functions, utilised in ECTs, are affected during the process of dual tasking specifically in
executive function and attention. Executive function includes complex mental processes such as:
problem solving, planning and dual tasking as shown in a study by Zelazo (2002.) Attention includes
mental processes such as the ability to concentrate on people; actions, objects and restraint from
impulsive actions. This cognitive function, along with executive ... Show more content on

This refers to focusing on one task until it is completed, rather than sharing attention to another task
and simultaneously trying to complete both (Jayne, 2006.) Patients inflicted with PD, which are
subject to dual task conditions, are seen with an increase in festinating steps and a worsened state of
bradykinesia. In other words; an increased amount of shuffling steps and a slower pace of gait (Brauer,
et al. 2011.) Furthermore, patients with the disorder whilst dual tasking demonstrate: increased
variability in step length and width, leading to asymmetry in gait, and frequent motor blocks compared
to walking alone (Yogev, Plotnik, Peretz, Giladi, Hausdorff, 2007; Spildooren, et al. 2010; Bloem,
Valkenburg, Slabbekoorn, Dijk, 2001.) Therefore, it can be argued that gait present in PD worsens
once a patient is subject to dual tasking

Bartleby Totalitarianism
The Narrator in Bartleby the Scrivener makes a point to describe the setting and its interactions with
the characters to Elucidate not only the question of Free Will but to create Melville s indictment of
labor within the structure of Capitalism. The Concept of Free Will and necessity play an important
role in constructing the universe and laws therein. They not only aid in structuring the plot and how a
thing occurs in a fictional universe. They give insight to the author s view of the world and are
recurring themes in Herman Melville s work. The concept of Free Will and necessity allow for an
immediate change in the moral paradigm and give Melville a platform and structure with which to
create his indictment of labor and Capitalism. In Bartleby the Schrivener, he mentions two
Necessitarian philosophers from a Christian background. The two works by these philosophers and
Necessitarianism in general give a unique perspective as to what Melville is trying to convey in this
story. They construct a world not of possibilities, but of rigidity and lacking in the traditional
conception of freedom.

a world where you must act in accordance with obtaining these necessities, meaning you must work,

The English Of The Middle English
American English is consistently changing it began with the Anglo Saxon settlement. The next
settlement that helped influence the English language was the Scandinavians which have some words
with hybridization with spelling from Old English and Norse origins. During the Middle English
period is when the most influencing happened with the Old English being broke down and replaced
with the same English system we use today. During the early modern periods standardization began
giving a standard for spelling and grammar. From there on English continued to evolve and was
influenced from all over the world.
The Proto Indo European language is spoken in the Baltic area until the Celtic s take over and inhabit
Spain, France, Germany Austria, Eastern Europe, and the British Isles. It is suggested by many that the
Celtic language helped influence the English Language today. In 55 B.C. the Romans begin to raid the
British Isles and end up taking over Britain. The first Germanic tribes Jutes, Angles and Saxons arrive
in England from the North Sea. The Roman Empire collapses and Romans start to leave Britain. 400
600 A.D. occurred during the Old English time period where most of Britain had become settled by
the Germanic people, the Angles spoke dialects of Englisc which comes from the words England and
English. The language is related to Latin due to the early contact with the Romans. Angelo Saxons

Theme Of Pullman In Northern Lights
In Addition, Pullman s hate to the Church. Pullman always attacks churches and priesthoods, the
trouble is that all too often in human history, churches and priesthoods have set themselves up to rule
people s lives in the name of some invisible god (and they re all invisible, because they don t exist)
and done terrible damage. In the name of their god, they have burned, hanged, tortured, maimed,
robbed, violated, and enslaved millions of their fellow creatures, and done so with the happy
conviction that they were doing the will of god, and they would go to Heaven for it. That is the
religion I hate, and I m happy to knowns as its enemy . Pullman make the reader ask magnificent
questions, like questions about universe and how the universe was made, makes the Catholic Church
accused Pullman s writings as anti Christian and accused him of promoting a vision of the world
which leaves no room for hope. Even he has anti Christian ideologies and thoughts, however, there are

Roman Land Reform Essay
The Gracchus brothers, Tiberius and Gaius, were Romans who both served as Tribunes in the late 2nd
century BC. They attempted to pass land reform legislation that would redistribute the major
aristocratic landholdings among the urban poor and veterans, in addition to other reform processes.
However, after achieving some early successes, both were assassinated by enemies of these reforms.
The period which we have considered as the most heroic in Roman history, is one of the saddest and
one of the most interesting. It is one of the saddest, because it was a time when the Roman state was
torn apart by civil strife. As the arms of the conquerors were turned against themselves. It is one of the

Inaccuracies In Armageddon
The movie Armageddon is a great movie, but contains many scientific inaccuracies. The movie has
many scenes that are set in outer space where many things such as gravity act different. While
watching the movie many things are portrayed to act in space as they do on Earth, which is not true.
Forces that act upon an object in space behave completely different than those that act upon objects on
Earth due to the differences in atmosphere. There are four specific instances from the movie where I
can prove inaccuracies. In the movie when the crew was on the crater drilling, nothing was coming out
of the hole. When there is drilling taking place the rock or dirt needs to be displaced into the
surrounding area. In the movie nothing came out of the hole during the entire drilling process. There
was almost no gravity on the asteroid to be able to hold the remnants and dust in the hole being
drilled. Therefore, the dust and remnants should be up on the surface of the asteroid and floating
around in space. The way I would fix this inaccuracy of how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This could never happen because gun powder is used to create an explosion which requires oxygen.
The space shuttle had crash landed, releasing all the oxygen from within the shuttle. In turn a gun
would be rendered useless in space. There is new ammunition than can be fired in space, but the
movie also failed to show that outcome correctly as well. If a gun was shot in the vacuum of space, the
gun and whatever is holding it would be launched backwards just as the bullet is launched forwards
due to there being no gravity to holding anything in place. To fix this inaccuracy I would show the
space vehicle being blown backwards by the gun shot or I would show the gun on the space vehicle

Persuasive Essay Marijuana Legalization
Cannabis has been used for over 6000 years without its legality being questioned until the 1930 s
when the United States Government criminalized its possession. Now seventy years later, its
prohibition is being reconsiderat both State and Federal levels of the government. The push for
legality has never had as much support as it does now, with the legalization of medical marijuana in
20states, decimalization in 16 states, and 2 states that allow commercial cultivation, manufacture, and
sale of cannabis. An overwhelming majority of the United States population, including me, see the
legalization of cannabis as a profitable and harmless idea.

The damage can only be done through heavy drug usage on a daily basis, which is extremely rare for
teens according to an ABC report. The next argument is that marijuana is addicting. The fact is
marijuana is less addicting than many other drugs, including alcohol, painkillers, and tobacco. Recent
studies have suggested that sports drinks, soda, and other sugary drinks are more addicting then
marijuana. The reason why many marijuana users go to rehab is that if they are arrested for possession
of marijuana, their jail time or fines are greatly decreased if they go to a rehab center as part of their
sentence. Because of this, the reports of how many people are addicted to marijuana are greatly
exaggerated. The final argument I will be addressing is the typical stoner (a person who regularly uses
marijuana) stereotype. The stereotype is that people who use or used marijuana won t be successful in
life. This stereotype has and will continue being proven wrong. The most relevant example is the
President of the United States Barack Obama, who as a teen and young adult used marijuana regularly.

I. Abstract
The purpose of this water experiment is to compare two sources of waters and see if they would affect
the growth of beans. For the purpose of this test, multiple samples were implemented to gather results
with as much accuracy as possible. Every two days a study of our beans was conducted. Measuring
the growth/length of each bean. 40 samples were used. The team hypothesized that the water from
Foster Lake would grow plants faster than the water from Kanakadea Creek due to the bio diverse
nature of the lake and its inhabitants. The results gathered show a surprising find in this study.
II. Introduction
Water is the most natural thing we have on earth. It sustains many organisms and those organisms
depend on it almost daily. Plants are such organisms. For this study the focus is the growth of beans.
Over the course of two weeks my team and I conducted research comparing the two types of waters
that were selected and seeing if they had any significant differences in growing beans. The first week
was inconclusive due to bean rot and negligence. Test two led to a more constant observation of
growth and change of location. Results gathered from this experiment have shown a difference that
different waters may have on the growth of plants. Beans that consumed certain water sources

The Dangers Of Self Esteem
In today s society, I believe that there are many possible hazards if we focus too much on heightening
the self esteem of children. One example is that children with very high self esteem could have a lack
of motivation in regards to academic assignments and exams. They may not feel the need to study or
put in the work to try their best due to the fact that they have the mentality of I m so smart, so I don t
need to study. Another example is that high self esteem could lead children to losing respect towards
authority. When children become too arrogant, they develop this know it all attitude. They feel that
they are better than the authority figure and there is no reason to respect them. All in all, too much
focus on heightening self esteem can cause children to lack high goals and expectations and influence
them to disrespect authority figures. Instead, we should focus on developing a secure self esteem in
which children feel comfortable and happy about themselves. We should teach children the idea that
not everyone is perfect and that they should accept their flaws. When children realize that they are not
perfect and can still make improvement, they can set goals for themselves and establish determination
to get better.

Subprime Lending Research Paper
Subprime lending has been a part of the financial industry for decades. Liberalization of lending
regulations since the late 1970 s has allowed for the proliferation of the practice of subprime lending,
most notably with subprime mortgages and their associated securities. Subprime lending is the
practice of lending to borrowers who do not have the financial stability to qualify for a more
traditional loan. A subprime loan differs from a traditional loan in that it is offered to less qualified
borrowers, they are riskier for the lender, and as such use much higher interest rates, often one that

The issues with subprime loans and their uses in the economy can be read from the various economic
theorists, each coming at it with vastly different perspectives. The tricky thing with analyzing these
loans and applying them to the economy as a whole lies with connected the movements of the debt
sector to the movements of the economy as a whole, and connected what each economist might say
about the importance of debt in our modern world. One side of the argument studied in class
emphasized the self righting nature of the market economy, and as such, nothing can be done to create
a long term recession. Their beliefs in the self righting market economy stems from the idea that
given, people naturally move towards the best possible deal, to maximize their potential, the economy
must be able to right itself in the event of mass value loss given people may do this automatically. To
truly believe in the idea of the self righting market economy, these economists must also subscribe to
the idea that people are rational maximizing actors in the economy. Any possible issues with the
proliferation of subprime loans seen by this class of economists would likely not be seen as a threat to
be dealt with, but a misstep that will get naturally ironed out as it is exposed to the free market. For
these economists, the actions taken by the

Ecological Economics Vs. Welfare Economics Essay
Ecological Economics vs Neoclassicial Welfare Economics
In the past, economic school of thought regarded the resources as unlimited and focused on more
production under the light of the unlimited growth assumption. Every economic action was suggested
to only consider about making more profit. While the economy and the human population are
growing; more natural resources are used and more pollution is observed. Human become to deal with
the results of its production such as enviromental problems and resource scarcity. A debate has
emerged in economics and the mainstream economics is brought into question since its unlimited
growth assumption is collapsed. Ecological economists argues the neoclassical welfare economics for
ignoring the enviromental and ethic values by only focusing on the cost benefit analysis. It also claims
that the neoclassical economics fails to calculate the value of the enviromental capital and the loss of
the economic activities on the environment. This paper is going to explain the problems with the
neoclassical welfare economics and the alternatives offered by the ecological economics in terms of
economic growth and environment.
The neoclassical welfare economics explains the economic production and behaviour by using the
mainstream terms of economic literature. Specifically, it focuses on the Pareto efficieny and suggests
two theorems related to it. Firstly, the Pareto efficieny is stated by maximisation of preferences under
a restricted budget and

New Jersey Plan
The New Jersey Plan was made up of 11 resolutions that were an alternative option to the Virginia
Plan. The New Jersey Plan was given in the form of eleven decision prepare by members from the
small states consisting of New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, and Delaware. The New Jersey Plan
detailed a legislature of only one house and featured equal representation in which each state had the
same number of representatives. The goal of this plan was for smaller states to have the same level of
power in the legislature as some of the larger states. Also, the New Jersey Plan proposed for one house
consisting of a single Congressional legislative body in which each State would have an equal number
of representatives. William Paterson had hoped that his New Jersey Plan would address the concerns
of both large and small states. The large states would no longer need be concerned about the
development of upcoming alliances and the small states would not be put on account of their smaller
populations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Is the Nature of Crime in Our Society Accurately Presented...
1. Is the nature of crime in our society accurately presented by the media? Discuss.
Like every society, Australia has always had its share of criminal activity, from the founding of our
country as a penal colony in the 18th century, bushrangers in the 19th century, underworld violence in
the 20th century to recent youth violence on our city streets in the 21st century. In this essay, I will be
discussing how the media presents crime in Australian society and how this does not necessarily
reflect crime statistics. The media presents us with the idea that the majority of crime in Australia is
violent, and it is only getting worse. In contrast, statistics show that Australia s crime rate has
remained relatively steady. In fact, most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Australian Institute of Criminology, 2009, p. 6) The media s representation of a rapidly increasing
violent crime rate is not supported by statistics which reflect that while the crime rate is rising, the rate
is steady and it is believed that this number could even be fluctuated by the increase of victims
reporting these types of crime to the police. According to the Australian Survey of Social Attitudes
2007, 74% of the respondents had quite a lot/a great deal of confidence in the police to solve crime.
(Australian Institute of Criminology, 2007 p. 16 17) Although the statistics show the general trend of
violent criminal offences is static, a significant proportion of our population still has the perception
that our crime rates are increasing (Australian Institute of Criminology, 2010) due to media influence.
Another way the media misrepresents Australia s crime rate is by selectively reporting violent crimes
whilst under reporting other offences, which are more prevalent in society.
Contrary to the perception of the majority of Australians, most reported crimes in Australia are in fact,
not violent. The rate of incidence of violent crimes is considerably lower in comparison to property
crimes and fraudulent activity. For example, personal and consumer fraud costs between $3 billion
and $3.5 billion per year in Australia which is roughly one third of all crime costs. (Australian Institute
of Criminology, 1997, p. 2) The media

The Judgment of Athena in Oresteia
The Judgment of Athena in Oresteia
Athena resolves the conflicts of the Oresteia with an ambiguous judgment that seems to satisfy all
parties involved. However, in any conflict, at least one party must make sacrifices to work toward a
resolution. Athena achieves her paradoxical result by misleading Apollo to think that he has received
total victory in judgment and by offering compensatory powers to the Erinyes, thus creating an
illusion of satisfaction for all amidst a reality of compromise.
Athena first addresses Apollo s argument of the superiority of paternity, but she allows compromise by
never fully admitting that Clytemnestra s murder was morally justified. Initially, Athena announces, I
approve the male in all things... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Orestes departs without a judgment of justice, the Erinyes nonetheless cry out, I am bereft of
honor, unhappy one! (Eumenides 780). On the surface, it appears that Athena s judgment, by granting
greater importance to paternity and the male gender roles of Apollo and Orestes, has compromised the
honor of the female Erinyes, who were acting on behalf of the significance of Clytemnestra s
maternity. Athena replies by saying, In all justice I promise you shall have a seat and a cavern in this
righteous land, (Eumenides 804 805). Here, Athena offers the Erinyes justice, which she denied
Orestes. This offer convinces the Erinyes to change their ancient ways to become part of the newer
Olympian order by serving as protecting goddesses of Athens. This agreement parallels one of the
main themes of the Oresteia: just as justice progresses from a system of blood guilt to a more civilized
trial system, so the Erinyes progress from the old generation of earth gods to become a part of the new
Olympian order.
Athena herself participates in the judgement not as an unbiased arbiter of justice, but as a participant
in the conflict who compromises and gains advantage from the consequences of her judgment just as
Apollo, Orestes, and the Erinyes did. Athena judges with the interest of Athens, her city, in mind.
When her judgment releases Orestes, he promises that if they [his descendants] always honor this city
of Pallas with the spear of allies,

The Controversy Over The Ethics Of Stem Cell Research Essay
The Controversy of Embryonic Stem Cell Research THE 210/04December 2, 2012
There is a debate over the ethics of stem cell research and many people on opposing sides of the issue
are not aware of all aspects. In order to intelligently debate the legal and ethical issues regarding stem
cell research, one must understand what stem cells are, the applications currently available, and the
impact of the research. It is also important to understand the distinction between adult and embryonic
stem cells before exploring their uses and impacts Stem cells possess unique properties that make
them different from all other cells in the body. Most cells do not have the ability to replicate where
stem cells have the potential to multiply indefinitely. Before they have a specific function in the body,
stem cells are essentially blank slates. There are two basic types of stem cells, which have different
empirical properties and ethical implications.
Researchers successfully attained embryonic stem cells from the embryos of mice in 1981, which led
to the discovery of this process in human beings in 1998 (National Institutes of Health, 2001).
Embryonic stem cells are derived from an in vitro embryo between five days and seven weeks.
Regenerative medicine can benefit greatly from the characteristics of embryonic stem cells. This
process enables damaged organs and tissues to heal themselves with the help of implanted stem cells
matching the organ (Hunziker, 2010, p. 1). There are two traits

  • 2. How Did Ben Tillman Influence South Carolina By 1892, South Carolina had fallen under the spell of one single man, Benjamin Ryan Tillman, often called Ben Tillman. Who is Ben Tillman, how did he manage to control South Carolina and why was he able to shape South Carolina into the state it is today? Ben Tillman was born August 11, 1847 in Trenton, South Carolina to Sophia Hancock and Benjamin Ryan Tillman. Ben thought of himself as a dirt farmer , but was actually purely flourishing. He owned a 2,200 acre farm with a total of 30 workers. Just like his fellow farmer buddies , Tillman came close to losing everything in the 1880s. Before Ben Tillman came along to save the day many farmers were saddened due to the decline of income, high railroad shipping charges, and high interest rates ... At the Farmer s Convention, Tillman s followers, also known as Tillmanites, used deceitful strategies to secure the idea of their hero becoming the Democratic Party s choice for governor. With the nod from the Convention, Tillman gained the encouragement from approximately all the Democrats immediately winning the election against A. C. Haskell. Not only did Ben win the election, he also won control over the General Assembly and kept control through his entire two terms as governor. Throughout his terms Tillman and the Tillmanites did not show much interest is achieving the goals of the farmers and Populist who supported him. But he did show interest in punishing his enemies, especially Wade Hampton. Tillman s first action as governor was to cease the Senate career of Wade Hampton. With his manipulative powers, he was able to persuade the Democrats in the General Assembly to vote Hampton out of office. Another goal of Tillman as governor was to improve agricultural education. He achieved his goal by lashing out at the University of South Carolina and renamed it South Carolina College, fired some staff, and shut down its new agricultural study department to make Clemson the state s prime agricultural college. Tillman also furthered the education for women by administering the assembly of a new campus for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. From Suffering To Overcoming By John Walsh From Suffering to Overcoming Imagine taking your young child with you to run errands. You race into Target and then are delayed as you search for the one item you need. In that one moment, your child walks off to find the toy section. You begin to search around you and then quickly become frantic. Your mind takes you places you have always feared. What if someone has taken my baby? This scene and other similar to it are far too familiar in our world. An estimated 797,000 children are reported missing in one year, however, only approximately 100 of them are stereotypical kidnappings (Martindale 6). Many times children that are reported missing have either run away or cannot be found for a few hours. Only a handful are taken for ransom and against their own will. The stereotypical kidnapping, which is very rare, involves abduction by a stranger or slight acquaintance who detains the child overnight, transports him or her at least 50 miles, holds the child for ransom or intends to keep him permanently, or kills the child (Martindale 6). John Walsh, host of America s Most Wanted, criminal investigator, and loving father of Adam Walsh has placed his mark on a world full of corruption and dangerous crimes. After the murder of his son, John Walsh used this tragic event as a motivation and inspiration to become passionate for the safety of others. He has been able to bring some safety to a world that is full of treacherous and life threatening people, save many lives, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two works by these philosophers and Necessitarianism in general give a unique perspective as to what Melville is trying to convey in this story. Pullman always attacks churches and priesthoods, the trouble is that all too often in human history, churches and priesthoods have set themselves up to rule people s lives in the name of some invisible god (and they re all invisible, because they don t exist) and done terrible damage. In the name of their god, they have burned, hanged, tortured, maimed, robbed, violated, and enslaved millions of their fellow creatures, and done so with the happy conviction that they were doing the will of god, and they would go to Heaven for it. That is the religion I hate, and I m happy to knowns as its enemy . Pullman make the reader ask magnificent questions, like questions about universe and how the universe was made, makes the Catholic Church accused Pullman s writings as anti Christian and accused him of promoting a vision of the world which leaves no room for hope. The movie has many scenes that are set in outer space where many things such as gravity act different. While watching the movie many things are portrayed to act in space as they do on Earth, which is not true. Forces that act upon an object in space behave completely different than those that act upon objects on Earth due to the differences in atmosphere. There are four specific instances from the movie where I can prove inaccuracies. In the movie when the crew was on the crater drilling, nothing was coming out of the hole. When there is drilling taking place the rock or dirt needs to be displaced into the surrounding area. In the movie nothing came out of the hole during the entire drilling process. The push for legality has never had as much support as it does now, with the legalization of medical marijuana in 20states, decimalization in 16 states, and 2 states that allow commercial cultivation, manufacture, and sale of cannabis. The reason why many marijuana users go to rehab is that if they are arrested for possession of marijuana, their jail time or fines are greatly decreased if they go to a rehab center as part of their sentence. Because of this, the reports of how many people are addicted to marijuana are greatly exaggerated. • 22. The Dangers Of Self Esteem In today s society, I believe that there are many possible hazards if we focus too much on heightening the self esteem of children. One example is that children with very high self esteem could have a lack of motivation in regards to academic assignments and exams. They may not feel the need to study or put in the work to try their best due to the fact that they have the mentality of I m so smart, so I don t need to study. Another example is that high self esteem could lead children to losing respect towards authority. When children become too arrogant, they develop this know it all attitude. They feel that they are better than the authority figure and there is no reason to respect them. All in all, too much focus on heightening self esteem can cause children to lack high goals and expectations and influence them to disrespect authority figures. Instead, we should focus on developing a secure self esteem in which children feel comfortable and happy about themselves. We should teach children the idea that not everyone is perfect and that they should accept their flaws. When children realize that they are not perfect and can still make improvement, they can set goals for themselves and establish determination to get better. 4. • 23. Subprime Lending Research Paper Subprime lending has been a part of the financial industry for decades. Liberalization of lending regulations since the late 1970 s has allowed for the proliferation of the practice of subprime lending, most notably with subprime mortgages and their associated securities. Subprime lending is the practice of lending to borrowers who do not have the financial stability to qualify for a more traditional loan. A subprime loan differs from a traditional loan in that it is offered to less qualified borrowers, they are riskier for the lender, and as such use much higher interest rates, often one that increases significantly over a short period of time. Along with this, the growth of specifically subprime mortgages came after the tax deduction for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The issues with subprime loans and their uses in the economy can be read from the various economic theorists, each coming at it with vastly different perspectives. The tricky thing with analyzing these loans and applying them to the economy as a whole lies with connected the movements of the debt sector to the movements of the economy as a whole, and connected what each economist might say about the importance of debt in our modern world. One side of the argument studied in class emphasized the self righting nature of the market economy, and as such, nothing can be done to create a long term recession. Their beliefs in the self righting market economy stems from the idea that given, people naturally move towards the best possible deal, to maximize their potential, the economy must be able to right itself in the event of mass value loss given people may do this automatically. To truly believe in the idea of the self righting market economy, these economists must also subscribe to the idea that people are rational maximizing actors in the economy. Any possible issues with the proliferation of subprime loans seen by this class of economists would likely not be seen as a threat to be dealt with, but a misstep that will get naturally ironed out as it is exposed to the free market. For these economists, the actions taken by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Ecological Economics Vs. Welfare Economics Essay Ecological Economics vs Neoclassicial Welfare Economics In the past, economic school of thought regarded the resources as unlimited and focused on more production under the light of the unlimited growth assumption. Every economic action was suggested to only consider about making more profit. While the economy and the human population are growing; more natural resources are used and more pollution is observed. Human become to deal with the results of its production such as enviromental problems and resource scarcity. A debate has emerged in economics and the mainstream economics is brought into question since its unlimited growth assumption is collapsed. Ecological economists argues the neoclassical welfare economics for ignoring the enviromental and ethic values by only focusing on the cost benefit analysis. It also claims that the neoclassical economics fails to calculate the value of the enviromental capital and the loss of the economic activities on the environment. This paper is going to explain the problems with the neoclassical welfare economics and the alternatives offered by the ecological economics in terms of economic growth and environment. The neoclassical welfare economics explains the economic production and behaviour by using the mainstream terms of economic literature. Specifically, it focuses on the Pareto efficieny and suggests two theorems related to it. Firstly, the Pareto efficieny is stated by maximisation of preferences under a restricted budget and ... • 26. Is the Nature of Crime in Our Society Accurately Presented... 1. Is the nature of crime in our society accurately presented by the media? Discuss. Like every society, Australia has always had its share of criminal activity, from the founding of our country as a penal colony in the 18th century, bushrangers in the 19th century, underworld violence in the 20th century to recent youth violence on our city streets in the 21st century. In this essay, I will be discussing how the media presents crime in Australian society and how this does not necessarily reflect crime statistics. The media presents us with the idea that the majority of crime in Australia is violent, and it is only getting worse. In contrast, statistics show that Australia s crime rate has remained relatively steady. In fact, most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Australian Institute of Criminology, 2009, p. 6) The media s representation of a rapidly increasing violent crime rate is not supported by statistics which reflect that while the crime rate is rising, the rate is steady and it is believed that this number could even be fluctuated by the increase of victims reporting these types of crime to the police. According to the Australian Survey of Social Attitudes 2007, 74% of the respondents had quite a lot/a great deal of confidence in the police to solve crime. (Australian Institute of Criminology, 2007 p. 16 17) Although the statistics show the general trend of violent criminal offences is static, a significant proportion of our population still has the perception that our crime rates are increasing (Australian Institute of Criminology, 2010) due to media influence. Another way the media misrepresents Australia s crime rate is by selectively reporting violent crimes whilst under reporting other offences, which are more prevalent in society. Contrary to the perception of the majority of Australians, most reported crimes in Australia are in fact, not violent. The rate of incidence of violent crimes is considerably lower in comparison to property crimes and fraudulent activity. For example, personal and consumer fraud costs between $3 billion and $3.5 billion per year in Australia which is roughly one third of all crime costs. • 29. The Judgment of Athena in Oresteia The Judgment of Athena in Oresteia Athena resolves the conflicts of the Oresteia with an ambiguous judgment that seems to satisfy all parties involved. However, in any conflict, at least one party must make sacrifices to work toward a resolution. Athena achieves her paradoxical result by misleading Apollo to think that he has received total victory in judgment and by offering compensatory powers to the Erinyes, thus creating an illusion of satisfaction for all amidst a reality of compromise. Athena first addresses Apollo s argument of the superiority of paternity, but she allows compromise by never fully admitting that Clytemnestra s murder was morally justified. Initially, Athena announces, I approve the male in all things... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Orestes departs without a judgment of justice, the Erinyes nonetheless cry out, I am bereft of honor, unhappy one! (Eumenides 780). On the surface, it appears that Athena s judgment, by granting greater importance to paternity and the male gender roles of Apollo and Orestes, has compromised the honor of the female Erinyes, who were acting on behalf of the significance of Clytemnestra s maternity. Athena replies by saying, In all justice I promise you shall have a seat and a cavern in this righteous land, (Eumenides 804 805). Here, Athena offers the Erinyes justice, which she denied Orestes. This offer convinces the Erinyes to change their ancient ways to become part of the newer Olympian order by serving as protecting goddesses of Athens. This agreement parallels one of the main themes of the Oresteia: just as justice progresses from a system of blood guilt to a more civilized trial system, so the Erinyes progress from the old generation of earth gods to become a part of the new Olympian order. Athena herself participates in the judgement not as an unbiased arbiter of justice, but as a participant in the conflict who compromises and gains advantage from the consequences of her judgment just as Apollo, Orestes, and the Erinyes did. Athena judges with the interest of Athens, her city, in mind. When her judgment releases Orestes, he promises that if they [his descendants] always honor this city of Pallas with the spear of allies, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The Controversy Over The Ethics Of Stem Cell Research Essay The Controversy of Embryonic Stem Cell Research THE 210/04December 2, 2012 There is a debate over the ethics of stem cell research and many people on opposing sides of the issue are not aware of all aspects. In order to intelligently debate the legal and ethical issues regarding stem cell research, one must understand what stem cells are, the applications currently available, and the impact of the research. It is also important to understand the distinction between adult and embryonic stem cells before exploring their uses and impacts Stem cells possess unique properties that make them different from all other cells in the body. Most cells do not have the ability to replicate where stem cells have the potential to multiply indefinitely. Before they have a specific function in the body, stem cells are essentially blank slates. There are two basic types of stem cells, which have different empirical properties and ethical implications. Researchers successfully attained embryonic stem cells from the embryos of mice in 1981, which led to the discovery of this process in human beings in 1998 (National Institutes of Health, 2001). Embryonic stem cells are derived from an in vitro embryo between five days and seven weeks. Regenerative medicine can benefit greatly from the characteristics of embryonic stem cells. This process enables damaged organs and tissues to heal themselves with the help of implanted stem cells matching the organ (Hunziker, 2010, p. 1). There are two traits ...
