The Significance Of White Collar Crime, And White Collar...
When we hear the word crime, we automatically assume that it involves criminal or civil crimes.
These crimes usually involve people in robberies, murders, or even injuries. However, there are
also crimes that are committed by a company or a business. Business crimes or white collar crimes
are crimes committed by a businesses or government professional. These crimes are often
committed using confidential information attained by an individual to commit fraud. There are
diverse types of white collar crimes, including tax fraud, telemarketing fraud, and insider trading.
White collar crimewas first introduced by Edwin Sutherland in a presidential address to the
American Sociological Society in 1939. During this address, he discussed the importance of these
crimes and why they should be considered crimes (Shover 133). The reason that these crimes are
often overlooked or not discussed are because of the difference in backgrounds and characteristics
of the parties involved. The Internal Revenue Service(IRS) was established to carry out duties to
the Secretary of Treasury. Under Code Sec 7801, the Secretary of Treasury reserves the right to
establish any agency to help enforce revenue laws (Rettig 59). Thus, the IRS Criminal
Investigation Unit was created on July 1, 1919, for the sole purpose of investigating claims of tax
fraud (The History of IRS Criminal Investigation (CI)). Tax fraud is one type of white collar crime,
which occurs when a company or individual tries to

Dont Judge a Book by the Cover Essay
You Can t Tell
Many people feel that you can tell a lot about a person by observing what they wear and what
they eat. This is not the case. Choice of clothing and eating habits, in no way, allow you to pass
judgment on a person. Judging people based on these factors is extremely shallow. What one wears
and eats in no way depicts character, behavior, or even intelligence. One simply cannot know a
person by looking at them and observing what they eat. Such a thought is ridiculous.
Instead of looking at clothing and what one is eating, character should be the basis for opinion.
Judging a book by the cover only leads to surprises, and in this case, judging a human by dress can
lead to surprises as well. Just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wearing nice clothesand eating fancy food means nothing if the person behaves like a child. A
person wearing dirty clothes and eating out of the garbage may behave better. This is why
prejudging people can often wrong. A bum with good mannersand behavior would be more
pleasant to be around than a rich, snob with no manners and horrible behavior. One cannot have a
full outlook on an individual by just viewing their dress and eating habits. Looking at someone s
clothing or what is in their refrigerator does not depict behavior.
By seeing what one wears and eats in no way allows you to know if the person is intelligent.
Crazy as it sounds, some bums are educated, smart people. These bums eating from garbage s
may even carry a conversation better than someone wearing a business suit and eating Red
Lobster every night. An intelligent person could simply choose not to care about dress. Not all
smart people conform to what society feels is appropriate. Some may choose to dress like bums
simply because they don t care. It doesn t mean they re any less smart or have less money. It could
mean that such petty things do not get to this person. To me this shows tremendous strength.
Intelligence cannot be judged by observing one s clothing and eating habits.

The Importance Of Technology In Life
Much like the rest of the developed world, technology has become a colossal part of my day to
day life. From the second my cell phone s alarm function wakes me up in the morning, to the
calculator I use in class, to the show I m currently watching on netflix when I m falling asleep.
Technology is always right there with me.
The biggest role that technology plays in my life is as an entertainment source. The modern cell
phone is like a swiss army knife of entertaining things. If I m feeling particularly social, I ll open
up snapchat and chat with a friend. Say I showed up way too early for my lecture, well then I
would just set up Youtubeand watch a few videos until the class time comes around.
Technology also plays an integral role in my school workflow. Both are completely reliant on
the use of a computer or cell phone. Every single one of my classes relies on the D to L
programme. It lets me know whether or not classes are canceled, what assignments are due when,
it s even where I turn in most of my assignments. In fact, my Digital Media Culture class is a
hybrid class, meaning that half of the criteria is to be met on my own time on a computer.
A large part of my Digital Media classes rely on me being able to create content. And most of the
time it is expected of me to finish this content on my own time. To do this, I use my laptop. My
focus being filmmaking and graphic design, there really isn t anything that I don t use technology
for. From creating photoshopped

The Waste Of Waste
Canadians throw out garbage in their everyday lives, but how much Canadians properly dispose
of it? In 2015, roughly 2.3 million tonnes of garbage were thrown away in British Columbia
alone, an average of 497 kilograms per capita. Imagine Canada s waste combined about 25 million
tonnes. Often, household garbage ends up in landfills, but landfills are piling up and reaching
maximum capacity. Unfortunately, it is becoming a struggle to find new areas to dispose of the
tonnes of waste. Additionally, the problem of over capacitated landfills contributes to the
environment s health and as a consequence, make approximately 25% of Canada s greenhouse gas
emissions. Improperly discarding items, like batteries, electronics, and so forth, also contributes to
the environment s health, creating the risk of water and soil contamination. It is up to Canadians
and the decisions they make when it comes to recyclingand protecting the environment.
Most household items, such as TV remotes, cell phones, wireless video game controllers, and
more, require batteries to operate. Ultimately, single use or rechargeable batteries run out of juice
or corrode, and become no longer usable. Nonetheless, Canadians are guilty disposing of batteries
improperly, whether in the garbage bin or the blue bin, that later enter landfills. Statistics Canada
informs, the most common method of disposal was taking them to a depot or drop off centre
(43%), while some put them in the garbage (32%) or returned them

Comparing The Film Cinderella And Charles Perrault s...
A Fairytale s Interpretation Movies create a new medium for fairytales to be enjoyed. The visual
appeal of tales is much greater rather than reading them; however, fairytale films lack an element
of imagination. Cinderella, for example, is a tale that exists in both the written and visual
mediums. The tale as written by Charles Perrault, named The Little Glass Slipper, provides room
for imaginative visual interpretation from his words. An interpretation that movies do not allow. In
both the film version and Perrault s written version, for instance, the audience receives the image
of the glass slipper. The written version allows the audience to imagine the glass slipper in
whichever way they see fit; the film portrays the glass slipper... Show more content on

Using words in a fairytale would be more difficult and tedious to explain this part of the story.
Films do provide a visual stimulation for audiences, and this Cinderella live action movie provides
an interesting depiction of the fairytale.
Charles Perrault s The Little Glass Slipper provides a readable version of the Cinderella
fairytale. This well known version of Cinderella was not his first take of this tale, which may be
how it became so famous: he managed all the kinks out of the tale for it to be child and adult
friendly. This written tale gives you more context to the tale by the language used. The wording in
the story provide deeper meaning by the connotation of the words. Such language includes odious,
wretched, wench, magnificent, charming, and treasure. These words have ideas around them that
associate feelings and previous experiences. These feelings allow the audience to use their own
imagination and experiences to illustrate the fairytale. When Perrault describes Cinderella s
treatment from her step family, this scene can identify with many readers, thus making their own
inferences about the visual aspect of the tale and its characters. An example would be interpreting
it as the demeaning hands and knees labor while scrubbing soot off the floor. Others can view their
own version of hard labor.
Charles Perrault s The Little Glass Slipper shares plot similarities with the Disney film version, but
Disney adds more theatrical elements to their

Don Juan Womanizer
Charming, attentive, interested, witty, flirtatious, these are all traits of a womanizer. The only
difference between a womanizer and a good man is a womanizer acts in this manner to get in
your pants, not your heart. Don Juan the Trickster of Seville, his name says it all. Don Juan is a
smooth talking, egotistical, cunning, never changing womanizer who thrives off of seducing
women. His love for romance and women and his lack of moral obligation make him a guy that
mothers warn their daughters about. His intoxicating wit and charm are irresistible to those who
catch his eye. Not only is he a womanizer but a true representation of the wages of sin. Don Juan

portrays arrogance and high self esteem. He has an unrealistic self image in that he believes he

of his noblemen upbringing. His father is a kingsmen and so is his uncle so he feels he can get

What Is The Evil In Lord Of The Flies
There is darkness inside everyone. Evil, malice, wickedness. Society attempts to stomp out these
innate traits. In his critically acclaimed novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding explores what
happens to a person when the pressures of society are removed. A group of British boys are
stranded on an island without any adults. They form a society that slowly falls apart as half of
the boys, led by Jack, are drawn into the savage life accepted on the island. Ralph s group
attempts to remain civil, but their success is questionable. Jack s group becomes more and more
brutal and savage, and three of the boys die. Golding wrote this book as an allegoryfor the
psychoanalytic theory of the personality, the Id, Ego, and Superego. The Id is the evil part,
driven by base instincts and desires. The Superego strives for morality and rules, and the Ego
attempts to balance the two out. Golding strongly believed that humans at their most base level
are evil, a theory developed through his life experiences. Golding fought in WW II, and is quoted
saying World War II was the turning point for me. I began to see what people were capable of
doing. ( William Golding3) Golding believed that without society people would revert entirely to
the Id, foregoing the Superego. He expressed this message in Lord of the Flies by characterizing
different boys as the different parts of the personality. He explored what happens to the personality
through the development of these characters. Golding

The Near Crash Of The Qantas A380
QF32 THE NEAR CRASH OF THE QANTAS A380 OVER SINGAPORE
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Airbus A380, one of the largest passenger aircraft in the world, made its debut commercial
flight with Singapore Airlines flying from Singapore to Sydney in October 2007. Qantas Flight 32
was the scheduled passenger flight of the A380 fleet which suffered an uncontained engine rotor
failure on November 4, 2010 and made an emergency landing at Changi Airport.
The UERF was caused by the crack present in the oil feed pipe which developed over a period of
time due to fatigue. The crack grew to a size which allowed the oil in the pipe to be released in the
HP/IP buffer space, during the occurrence flight. There was severe damage caused to the flight.
However, the robust design and structural strength of the jet sustained the damage which might
have destroyed the airlines of the past decade.
The crew members of Qantas displayed excellent skills in managing the incident and the high
standards of piloting culture saved QF32 from a catastrophic crash which enabled Qantas to keep
up the brand name and protect its values of safety of customers . The management decided to
ground the fleet of A380s for further inspection after the incident.
The ATSB carried out a detailed investigation along with Rolls Royce and several other global
agencies. Numerous lapses were identified including the factors which resulted in the manufacture
and release into service of non conforming oil feed pipes and appropriate

My Problem with Procrastination
Upon further review, it appears that what I thought was a problem is more of an issue. As well
as I needed to add a problem to my previous essay, so I would like to list a problem I have with
procrastination. I seem to be dealing with increased instances where I have waited to the last
minute to complete homework or a work project. Investigating my problemof procrastination, I will
consider the pros and cons of not getting my schoolwork completed, in a timely manner. The pros
outweigh the cons by a long shot. It is never a good ideato waste time and then rush through just to
complete an assignment. I will work out the details of my problem by setting aside a certain
time every day to work on my schoolwork. I will also invest in using my dayplanner daily to
make sure I am meeting my daily goals and weekly goals. I Googled free .pdf printables for
increased organizational inserts for my planner. I downloaded printed and added pages for meal
planning, project planning, and homework to my planner. Adding more tools to keep me on
track will ensure that I am getting what I need done, and when it needs to be done. This will also
help take some of the pressure of me. Waiting until the last minute to get my schoolwork done
adds pressure and I have to scramble on my work late at night to get it turned in on time. As I
stated in our previous assignment my issue is with my relationship. I was thinking of a way I can

Greasy Lake Analysis
Greasy Lake Story Analysis
Greasy Lake was published in 1985 along with other stories from the author, T. Corahessan Boyle.
The story is a gripping tale of three teen boys living on the edge , in which the author presents
himself and his friends as a group of dangerous individuals. One would think that the narrator has
truth in his words, but all events in the story point to the contrary. T. Corahessan Boyle, or T. C.
Boyle for short, is an unreliable narrator. The truth of this story is not in the text, but in the
underlying meanings and subliminal nuances. This hidden reality really helps the reader make a
direct judgment of the characters. After reading between the lines, one quickly finds out who the
characters are, but more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The unknown aggressor starts to engage in hand on hand combat with the three. The narrator
reminds us that Digby, a friend of the narrator s, has just finished a course in martial arts (that
his parents probably helped pay). Digby stands in position with wrists cocked and ankles bent in
a swan like stance ready for the assailant, but sadly for the young ninja, the narrator tells us, The
greasy character was not impressed. He merely backed off a step, his face like a Toltec mask, and
laid Digby out with a single whistling roundhouse blow (Boyle 166) . . . Tough guys do not get
knocked out in one blow, they stand and fight.
When all hope for the young rebels seems to be lost, the narrator remembers an old tire iron he
has hidden under his seat. He recalls the last time he was in a fight, which was too long ago to
even matter. I came at him and brought the tire iron down on his ear (Boyle 166). Primal instinct
kicked in and the greaser from the 57 Chevy was out cold. It was far from a deserving victory as the
one man put up a hell of a fight. The greaser nearly nailed a hat trick if it wasn t for the narrator s
cheap knockout. In reality only cowards fight with metal pipes, real bad dudes fight with their fists.
Now if the unworthy victory was not enough for the pathetic trio, they proceeded to attack the
greaser s innocent girlfriend. Weak and helpless, no shoes or pants, they had her pinned against the
car half naked. Just before a horrific

Irony In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Flannery O Conner, a Gothic literature writer, has written several short stories throughout her life.
Among these stories, two of them being A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People,
she has included some of the most fleshed out and grotesque characters I have ever read. O Conner
brings her characters to life throughout her writing in near flawless and subtle detail with ironic
humor. For example, O Conner makes skillful use of ironic names for her characters. The titles and
names such as grandmother, the misfit, Joy/Hulga, and the bible salesman are used ironically.
These subtle characterizations help guide the reader to the final, and often times ironic, conclusions
all her characters deserve.
The Grandmothers character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He further explains how as a result of people focusing on her status as a grandmother rather than
how she behaves, most people dismiss her annoying nagging and racist comments (1). In the text of
A Good Man is Hard to Find, when the grandmother and the children are dancing, O Conner
emphasizes how one may see the grandma as a harmless happy person when the grandma asks
her son Bailey to dance. He refuses, claiming he does not have a sunny disposition like his mother
who is able to just get up and dance. Unfortunately, I must agree with Bandy because it is
something most people tend to do, and it is important to beyond a person s outward appearance.
As Bandy mentions, the grandmother and the misfit are often intertwined in many critics
reviews of A Good Man is Hard to Find (1). One of the most obvious ironies they share is that
you perceive one as being the opposite of the other for the wrong reasons. With the grandmother,
as stated before, one may assume her to be a good person, while she is in fact the opposite.
While the Misfit would most likely be associated as a murderer and a horrible monster, he in fact
is a decent human being. Wynne emphasizes the humor in the grandmother s attempt to save
herself by calling the Misfit one of her children (1). As if she is good and therefore he, being of
the same good blood, must also be good. In these aspects I completely agree with these writer s
interpretations of the grandmother and the

What Is The Theme Of The Ruins Of A Great House
Ruins of a Great House is a symbolic poem written by Derek Walcott that tries to explain the

He describes the poor condition of an abandoned house, it s surroundings and tries to visualize the
effect of British imperialismin the then society. Walcott talks about the effect of British Imperialism
to establish colonial slavery, the awful treatment of slaves, and the gradual destruction of the
imperialism system. At the very outset of the poem he says, though our longest sun sets at right

Farewell, green fields, Farewell, ye happy groves! The background of this quote taken from
William Blake s Night is opposition of British monarchy. And thereby Walcott means that with the
beginning of British imperialism the green fields lost their life. It s like the British Empire sucked
all the life of common people and made the society sick like a leprosy patient. It s like the green
fields are affected with leprosy. The poet is angry for such heinous attitude of the British
towards the slaves of the seventeenth century. And he bids farewell to the good old days with
the introduction of the British Imperialism. But this system didn t last long when the poet
mentions, Deciduous beauty prospered and is gone, But where the lawn breaks in a rash of
trees. As British Empire got involved in immoral colonial slavery, the system lacked proper
authority to ensure effective administration which resulted in its decay and loss. The lime trees
and an wagon wheel under manure describes the use of slaves led by British silt. Walcott uses
imagery to make the readers perceive how the society felt like from his perspective. He says, The

Research Paper On Zebra Mussels
Did you know zebra mussels can lay up to 1 million eggs a year? The zebra mussel has been
overpopulating the Great Lakes since the mid 1980s. They re destroying everything around them.
The communities of Northeast Indiana should battle the zebra mussels because they are destroying
the ecosystem, they re destroying every manmade object around them, and they are overpopulating.
To start with, the zebra mussels are destroying the ecosystem. As it says in the National Wildlife
Foundation, They devastate native species by stripping the food web of plankton, which has a
cascading effect throughout the ecosystem. Lack of food has caused populations of alewives,
salmon, whitefish, and native mussels species to plummet. The zebra mussels are... Show more

In the King County site they say, zebra mussels cause far reaching damage to water structures,
they attach to manmade structures, particularly pipelines, impeding water movement through
hydroelectric turbines and intake structures for drinking water and irrigation systems. Although
they seem small and harmless the zebra mussels are breaking and destroying every manmade
object they can find. Since they have their tentacles that can stick to things very well, when they
come off the structure they are taking pieces off of the structure with them. The zebra mussels
need to attach to a hard surface, so they are attaching to boats, motors, pipes, etc... They are
breaking those objects piece by piece and if we don t stop them now our objects will be ruined
or destroyed. Finally the zebra mussels are overpopulating the waters. In the Alien Profile it
says, A female zebra mussel can produce 30,000 to 1,000,000 eggs in one year! Now think of
that number of eggs times 5 trillion. That s a lot isn t it, well that s how many zebra mussels

Different Theories About Learning Styles Essay
Introduction Learning style is an individual s unique approach to learning based on strengths,
weaknesses, and, preferences. Learning styles explains the concept that every person learns
differently. Assessments of learning style typically ask individuals to evaluate what sort of
information presentation they prefer, and, what kind of mental activity they find most engaging,
and, attractive for them. Theories about learning stylesagree that all people can be classified
according to their style of learning. In this paper different theories about learning styles are
reviewed briefly. At the end, Gendlin experiential theory is reviewed in detail.

There is a model that use to classify some of the most common ways of individuals learning styles.
The name of this model is VARK. New Zealand teacher Neil D. Fleming was inventor of VARK

The Impact Of Digital Technology On Society
With new technical breakthroughs happening every minute, technology is advancing far beyond
our imagination. The internet has become increasingly accessible with new smartphones and
smart devices, and with them came new social media applications. Social media has now
become a large factor in the lives of many people across the globe as a means of finding and
distributing information. People spend more and more time on the internet, and less time having
face to face human interactions. Instead of human interactions and networking, popularity and
social status is now based on friends on Facebook, followers on Twitter, and Instagram likes .
The lack of meaningful social interactions has caused an increase in mental health issues such as
social anxiety and depression, and adversely impacts human society. Digital technology
negatively affects happiness because it causes loneliness, mental illness and a disconnection from
the real world. Social platforms negatively affect happiness because it causes loneliness. As
social media becomes more pronounced in our daily lives, the further apart we grow from each
other physically and the closer we become on the internet. A person might have 2,000 friends on
Facebook but in reality has no real friends to connect with on a more personal level. The phrase,
your real friends, captures the anxieties that social media have produced: the fears that Facebook
along with other social media platforms is interfering with our real friendships,

Dietitian Case Study
Lesson 5
18. Read the following case study from the perspective of a dietitian. In point form, write five
statements that you would discuss with Curtis, with the goal of improving his health. For each
point, add a sentence that gives him information about metabolism that he should be aware of
reasons why he should consider changing his diet and lifestyle.
Case study:
Curtis is a 50 year old male. His job is sedentary and he participates in no physical activity. He quit
smoking when he was 40, after having a near fatal heart attack. His mother and father both suffered
heart attacks in their fifties and his grandmother (on his mother s side) had two stokes. He drinks

causes an increase of metabolism. For lunch, he should consider creating a healthy soup, or a
tuna whole wheat wrap with yogurt on the side to eat later, for example. For supper, he should
swap his diet pop for water or pure fruit juice, keep the salad or eat steamed vegetables and switch
his meat with steamed fish or chicken. Finally, for his snack he should replace this with a healthier

Race Representation In American Cinema

eagerly convincing everyone I knew to go see it (including you!), I found that my requests were
met with concern as many said oh, I do not like scary movies. It is unfortunate that so many
would forgo seeing the movie in light of someone s preconceived idea of what a horror movie is.
The entire genre is compartmentalized into a one size fits all description and what arises out of
this generalization is an entire group of people who miss out on seeing a good film and instead
see some sequel, prequel, reboot, spinoff, remake of a franchise film that only feeds into big studio

The term became popular when it was adopted by the Black Lives Matter movement and is a

start of the film. There is an evident in the connections that black filmmaker s make by using
music made by black musicians (Taylor). The score is a formative and fundamental reference
for black art (ibid). In Get Out, Jordan Peele wanted to have a noticeable presence of Afro music
that would be more than an assemblage of music backing a motion picture. The main theme
music in the film is a Swahili song entitled Sikiliza Kwa Wahenga (Something Bad Is Coming

plays in the developmental scenes where audiences are not yet aware of the dangers Chris is in.
Some of the lyrics translate to save yourself and listen to your ancestors. Michael Abels is the
orchestral and choral composer for the film and was instrumental in creating a soundtrack that
has black roots but also presents a lack of optimism that is needed in a horror movie. It was his

Vagueness In Dracula
TO BELONG OR NOT TO BELONG
Throughout the gothic history, the vagueness between the outside and inside has existed
permanently, which is considered as one of the main features of gothic novels. According to this,
the development of the differentiation between outside and inside has encountered two periods,
using vampire gothic novels as examples. Firstly, using the novel Dracula , Count Dracula is
defined as the outside , which still mirrors some human tendency and instinct. Secondly, using
Interview with the vampire , the introspective vampire like Louis is considered as the inside ,
which symbolizes modern consciousness however lacking in the outside . Ultimately the outside

For instance, Dracula satisfies its needs for food and sexual intercourse simultaneously, which
corresponds with the vampire s survival instinct. Similarly, human beings also have such kinds
of needs for self preservation, yet we separate the needs for sexuality and eating individually. In
addition, Dracula has to marry outside for reproduction due to a physical barrier, which is also
reflected in the human being s instinctive desire for foreign women. However, the imperialism of
Dracula, reflecting the Outside aspects of Dracula is still observable. Dracula serves as a superior
figure who possesses tremendous seduction power to the women who originally belongs to the
good men s group and turns them into the opposite of their original group. The statement of Mina
Leagued with your enemy against you. (Stocker 337) quite voices the anxiety and fear of the good
men s group. Also, the image of the women after being transformed into vampires encounters an
entire change. The purity of women is forever lost and instead they turn voluptuous and demanding
and thus become otherness, which deepens the fears of losing masculinity of the Good men s
group. With all the fears ascribing to the superior potency of Dracula,

Seeing a child who is overweight may not seem like a big concern to some, but the future
consequences can be deadly. Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine state that, children
and adolescents who are obese are likely to be obese as adults and are therefore more at risk for
adult health problems such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, several types of cancer, and
osteoarthritis. Children who are obese are more likely to grow up to be obese as adults resulting
in long term health effects (3). It seems the rise of obesity is going to be a great concern for
healthcare professionals in the future. These statistics provide the obvious clue to the pattern of

The Wings Wings bring lift to animals so as they may fly. In the study of the Enneagram, the
wings are the adjacent types to your core type. Each person has two wings but the balance
between these two to the core type varies from person to person. The wings may be more potent
than the core. They may be hidden or be proportioned. The wings exist to introduce a person s
alternate self or his other side. Wings may improve the core personality or contradict it completely.
The whole idea of wings merely points out that personality fluctuate and explain how a person may

The Arrows From the diagram shown before, we find arrowheads at the end of the line. In the
Enneagram, there are arrows of integration and disintegration. Integration, as defined in a
dictionary, is the idea of blending something into a whole while disintegration duly means the
opposite.
Arrows like the wings affect the core personality type only that arrows are triggered with the
person s state of mind or stress level. When stressed, as strained or due to certain circumstances
leaves the mind in tumultuous bearings, the person would exhibit the arrow of disintegration or
the type which points to your core type. Here, a person acquires the sin of the arrow or the
negative attributes of that type. This is why the arrow of disintegration is also referred to as the
negative arrow. For the arrow of integration, a person is calm or relaxed in his present state

It occurred when a white mob started attacking residents and businesses of the African American

racial violence in the history of the United States. Although the riot itself lasted only a few hours,
its repercussions are still felt today. The riot started after a young black man was accused of

Homeless Families Essay
Homeless families compose a fraction of the homeless population as they represent roughly a third
of the homeless population in the United States (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development, 2010), and approximately 1.5 million children 1 in 50 youngsters are homeless each
year in the United States (p. 389). These homeless families often struggle to find permanent
residency as a collective unit. There are several types of housing situations available for homeless
families such as temporary housing, transitional housing settings, and shelters, yet the housing
situation for homeless families often causes stress for families as stability and a secure home is
always in question. The lack of stable, consistent housing is the central, defining characteristic of
families experiencing homelessness, distinguishing them and their experience(s) from those with
stable housing who experience other correlated conditions (e.g., poverty) (Kilmer, Cook, Crusto,
Strater, and Haber, 2012, p. 394). Homeless families often seek different types of housing usually
by first reaching out to temporary shelters in emergency situations like domestic violence that often
lead to homelessness, which provide services for children and families. There are many challenges
families encounter in the process of seeking permanent housing.
These homeless families face many adversities and issues when seeking permanent housing like
possible separation from their family members due to many

The best solution to the mortgage crisis America is facing today is both easy . . . and difficult to

while also making concrete changes in the way the lending industry works. Both demand taking a
long term view in order to be successful.
A New Philosophy
Changing one s philosophy is easy, but putting it into practice on a daily basis is not. One needs
to employ will power, diligence and the ability to think long term, all virtues that fell by the
wayside long ago in America. Anymore, Americans get what they want, when they want it from a

in the case of sales, their products. Not only did banks offer exotic loans that were generally not
sagacious for most Americans, but individual salespeople didn t necessarily understand their
products (let alone buyers) which made for a risky combination that led to the current crisis. People
signed on the dotted line without understanding what they were committing to, and those employed
to guide them through the process were no more versed in the products themselves. Enforcing more
stringent certification requirements for individual loan officers would help salespeople to better

beneficial for borrowers to demonstrate a certain level of understanding of what they are

Harm Principles
In order to begin discussing how lawmakers can legitimately draw a line between permitted and
criminal activity there are two principles which need to be defined and acknowledged, the harm
principle and the offense principle. The harm principle, initially created by John Stuart Mill in
his essay On Liberty , is heavily centred around the protection of society. According to Mill, the
only sufficient reason to criminalise certain behaviours and activities is if it causes harm to
members of the society or society as a whole, harm to oneself is not a strong reason to criminalise
behaviours as we have a right to individual autonomy. The modern harm principle used now is Joel

The fact that it is a psychological disorder that causes individuals to want to amputate their limbs
may be a sufficient reason to criminalise those who carry out the procedure of amputating a person

one is following the guidelines laid out in the Mental Capacity Act 2005 meaning that it can be
concluded as the bodily harm of mentally ill patients. Muller raises a case against amputation based
on the principle of autonomy. On the one hand autonomy can be used to argue for the rights of
body modifications like for plastic surgery for aesthetic or sexual purposes but on the other hand the
autonomy of BIID patients is heavily doubted. Autonomy requires insight, free will and rationality,
those suffering from a neuropsychological condition cannot be classified as autonomous and thus
performing an amputation on them should be prohibited. This then turns the attention to those who

Self Control And Its Effect On Society
According to BrainyQuote, Buddha once said, To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to
one s family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one s own mind. If a man
can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will
naturally come to him. Self control is the restraint from oneself and actions, particularly in one s
desires and emotions. It separates us, humans, from ancient ancestors as well as the rest of the
animal kingdom. When one has the chance to enact poorly and cause harm to others, self control
is the essential aspect one must learn to withdraw from these activities. Commonly, being able to
control one s actions provides the difference between life and death. To many people in today s
society, emotions that arise from sensitive situations may result in the use of violence in order to
receive closure. Guns, for example, are deadly weapons used to accomplish these acts, and when
people fail to yield the use of guns, problems arise. Gun control is a well disputed argument
regarding the regulations enacted upon the withdrawal from guns.
History of Gun Control and the Origins of the Problem Gun control involves laws and policies that
regulate the ownership and use of guns in order to reduce crime. These regulations control the
manufacture, sale, possession, transfer, and use of firearms in the interest of controlling violence.
One key term to become familiarized with firearms is an assault weapon.

The life and ministry of Jesus is usually defined as the moment where God intervened in human
history for a special purpose. This intervention occurred so humanity s relationship could be
restored to the way it was originally intended to be. Sin entered the world through the disobedience

could only be restored through the atonement of JesusChrist. A surface look of Jesus life would

A traditional Christology would attribute it to His divine nature while Spirit Christology would
claim that it was from the Spirit who empowered Him. Scripture recorded that Jesus claimed many
different times that He performed miracles through the Spirit of God including texts such as Mt.
12:28. Observing the ministry of Jesus from the Spirit Christological perspective does not transform
the paradigm of Jesus ministry, rather it shifts the source of Jesus power. Presenting the comparison
between His divine nature and the Holy Spirit should not be a focused issue rather it should
promote insight to the interworking of Jesus ministry.
The power of the Spirit in Jesus should be an example of how believers should interact with the
Spirit. As Jesus told His disciples of the helper He would send to them (Jn 15:26), believers
today have the privilege to be empowered by the Holy Spirit as well. The disciples witnessed the
miracles which Jesus performed and from this example they were able to have powerful ministries
as well. Jesus ministry consisted of redeeming humanity from sin, performing miracles full of the
Spirit and making available the power of the Spirit. His mission did not stop at establishing the

shows the tremendous change in some of the assiduous characters. Anakin s critical moments in his
life are when he becomes a Jedi, then a Sith, and then saving his son from death all throughout Star
Wars. Anakin had a tough childhood and was afford a choice to become a Jedi. Anakin choose to
leave home to become a Jedi, but he had to leave his mother behind. Qui Gon told Anakin this
path has been placed for you, Annie; the choice to take it is yours alone. (Episode 1) Qui Gon
couldn t get Anakin s mother free and Anakin had to decide whether to stay with family or start
a new life. This choice shows that Anakin can make hard decisions, even at a young age. After
going with Qui Gon to Naboo, droids start to attack. Anakin was told once we get inside, Annie,
you find a safe place to hide and stay there. (Episode 1) Anakin was joined by R2 D2 and hid inside
of a ship. He turned it on to try to aid his new friends and accidentally flew into space with the
other ships. He eventually destroyed the droid invasion... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Musical Taste Is Subjective
Musical taste is subjective. Everyone has a different musical preference that depends on their age,
where they live, where they are from, what mood they are in, and so on. For example, according
to an interview with Freddy Matt who is a college student in New Jersey, I listen to music, which is
pop music, when I get bored, or when I want to be relaxed. Otherwise, usually I do not listen to
music (Matt). According to another interview with bar patron Tom Hunk, who is 35 years old, I
listen to music for fun. Friday and Saturday night, I do go to a bar in order to let myself go (Hunk).
These examples show that people listen to music with different purposes. On the other hand, people
listen music when they do sports such as running, weight lifting, walking, playing tennis, etc. Even
though they live in the same community, their perspective on music is different.
I have been living in Bergen County for two years, and I really want to explore our county s
musical culture. In order to look for the musical life and culture in Bergen County, I searched for
some musical stores and locations that are being used for live music. When I was searching for
venues, I found that many hired house bands, which gives us the opportunity of experiencing live
performance. For example, Dodo Orchestra is one of them. According to gigmasters.com: Dodo
Orchestra is a unique retro world jazz ensemble that has enchanted audiences with their vivacious
energy and a refined repertoire. In addition,

Stephen Glass In The Film Shattered Glass
Who is Stephen Glass? Is he trustworthy and truthful or manipulative and deceitful? After watching
the film Shattered Glass, the viewer is able to grasp a greater understanding of the central character
in this film, Stephen Glass, and answer this question once and for all. Glass is considered an
extremely kind, unique, manipulative, and, overall, interesting character. In the beginning of the
movie, his coworkers in the office fall in love with him, making him everyone s favorite. Abruptly,
everything goes downhill. Glass finds himself shifting from the New Republics key to success, to
the biggest downfall of the company; all within the matter of a few days. Although he is extremely
likable, he uses his manipulative personality to cover up... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One little mistake ended up exposing him completely, landing him with no job and no friends
who have his back. Stephen Glass published his biggest article yet, Hack Heaven , where he
falsely reported an immense amount of information. He claimed that he was present at the event
taking place regarding a hacker convention, but in reality he was not. In fact, none of it was true,
every single detail he wrote in the article was fake news. Glass argued that he acquired enough
information from other random sources he came across, leading him to believe nobody would find
out if he had no personal fact to back up the information himself. He made up fake people, quoted
them, referenced different nonexistent companies, and participated in other unethical actions.
Everything began deteriorating when a man named Adam Penenberg, a writer for another
newspaper, dug further into Glass story. Starting as theories, Penenberg and his co worker Andy
Fox built up a case and began supporting it with facts, finally becoming confident with the fact that
Stephen Glass fabricated the entire piece, Hack Heaven . Facts such as dates and times did not
match up with Glass statements and neither did websites and phone numbers. For example,
Penenberg told Stephen Glass that the website for one of the sources that he mentioned in his
article, Juke Micronics, was not believable. He said, Quite frankly, it

Canada s Annual G20 Summit
In the summer of 2010, Canada s largest city had the honour of hosting the annual G20 summit to
discuss contemporary global economic issues. Given that such international events typically attract
thousands of protesters, organizers formed an Integrated Security Unit consisting of police officers
from across the country to provide security during the summit in downtown Toronto. Little did
Torontonians know, public safety and security came with the heavy price tag of surrendering
certain rights and freedoms, such as the right not to be unreasonably searched and the freedom of
expression, which are guaranteed by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. According to
Ombudsman Andre Marin, Regulation 233/10, which permitted police officers to infringe on these
fundamental rights and freedoms, would almost certainly be illegal and unconstitutional under the
Charter therefore its implementation was as a result of a one time governmental error. However,
Carl Schmittargues that a country s positive laws simply hide the actuality of sovereignty, since the
sovereign is he who decides the exception. This paper will argue that the extensive authority
granted to the police during the G20 reveals the fundamental reality of the inherent need for
violence in the preservation of national sovereignty as contended by Carl Schmitt. The first part of
this essay will discuss the necessity and justification of extraordinary measures that must be taken
in times of emergencies. The second part of this

Essay on What Is Really Behind Advertisement
Many people are in the debate whether companies use persuasion or manipulation in their
advertisements to get people to buy a certain product. In the Innocent ones advertisement the
Stop the Abuse organization shows a picture of a sad, abused little boy. The advertisement only
shows half of his face, but the color in his face has been lightened so it has a gray tint. To the
right, where the other half of his face should be, there is a stop sign. The stop sign is bright red,
and below the stop sign are big bolded words that read, I am Not a punching bag. The word not is
underlined to bring the significance of the advertisement to end child abuse. The advertisement is

And then there are some people who look at it and their heart will break and they will donate
immediately. The picture can only be counted as unfair if it invoked the same emotion in everyone
no matter who viewed it. Another reason the advertisement is not manipulative is because even
though the way the advertisement was structured was skillful, it was more on the creative side.
The creativity is shown by the content of the advertisement. With the use of a stop sign to replace
half of a child s face, big bolded words, color scheme, and half of a child s face the company used
creativity in designing the advertisement. The only skill that was used was the structure of the
advertisement. With the child s face to the left, the stop sign to the right, and the bolded words
underneath the stop sign it made the advertisement very easy to follow. However, that was the only
skill used in the advertisement which is why it was more creative than skillful. The advertisement
that the Stop The Abuse organization has recently came out with is persuasive and not
manipulative because even though the advertisement is sad and may touch the emotions of some
people, the fact of the matter is that it is only an advertisement and it is strictly the person s, who is
watching the advertisement, choice on whether to donate to the advertisement. The whole purpose
of why the organization used the advertisement is in an attempt

Analysis Of That Lean And Hungry Look By Suzanne Britt
We All Can be Equal A few of the many problems in this world occur because we judge each
other based on our differences whether is be, color, size, or shape. An example of one of the
biggest differences would be size. Suzanne Britt discussed her view of fat and thin people in a
brief essay called, That Lean and Hungry Look where she explains how fat people are far better
than thin people. She states, You ve got your together thin person, your mechanical thin person,
your condescending thin person, your tsk tsk thin person, your efficiency thin person (Britt 181).
Many people in society actually go off of Britts statement, everyone puts fat and thin people into
separate categories just because that is the way it has always been. There are many examples of
how we see each other in categories, but in the end there s always a fact that disproves it. One of
the most biased categories thin people are put into is being logic thinkers and enjoying math. There
have been many thin mathematicians in the history of the United States such as, Albert Einstein,...

They all, fat and thin, navigate towards people like them in their times of need because they feel
as though since they don t look the same they won t understand each other. Suzanne Britt states,
Thin people are neither gooey nor soft (181). She also states, What you want when you re down
is soft and jiggly not muscle and stable. This can be true when some people are down, maybe
they want someone comfortable like a fat person to hug and make themselves feel better.
However, some people when they re down navigate towards a thin person to get the motivation
they need to move on and work on things to make themselves feel better such as working out. To
feel better, a combination of a fat and thin person can help you more overall rather than just one

Straightener Research Papers
The straightener is a woman s (or man s) number one companion when it comes to getting ready
for any occasion. It has been part of women s lives throughout history, dating back to the ancient
Egyptians. Long straight hair was a popular style in Egypt. If you were born with straight hair, you
were blessed by the gods. If not, then you would heat up two flat ironplates in the fire and run it
through your hair until smooth. This would often cause severe burns to the face and hands, but
woman would go through anything to fit in. As time went on, different hair styles came and went.
Then in the 1800s, straight hair once again became the new trend. Erica Feldman was the first to

Essay on Zero Tolerance Policy of Education in America
Zero Tolerance Policy of Education in America In Bedford, Texas, a 16 year old honor student
was expelled after a security guard noticed a kitchen knife on the floor of the student s car. The
knife apparently had fallen unnoticed as the student carted some of his grandmother s possessions
to Goodwill. He was ordered to spend a year in a juvenile justice educationprogram and banished
from district property and school sponsored activities. [...] In Deer Lakes, Pennsylvania, a

If a student was a relatively good kid with no past disciplinary actions taken against him or her, they
were much more likely to have a punishment that actually taught them something, rather than
creating a sense of resentment towards the school authorities, and the system in general. Before the
era of zero tolerance, a kid with a great future ahead could not screw it all up by making one simple
mistake.
The line that zero tolerance crosses is one of intent. Zero tolerance looks only at the offense that has
been made, not at the circumstances that brought it about. If someone with no intent of doing
something unlawful accidentally commits a crime, they are punished equally with one who
deliberately inflicts harm.
So how did zero tolerance laws come about? When major incidences of school disruption, like the
Columbine shooting, started occurring, school officials decided they needed to start cracking
down on discipline. After realizing certain things were starting to get out of hand, the federal
government made it mandatory for, [...] a zero tolerance policy toward the possession of illegal
drugs and weapons on school grounds, (Copenhaver 1).
In the beginning days of zero tolerance, the laws truly did focus on behavior that could be deemed
dangerous and criminal, and required a mandatory expulsion for

Essay on The Cause of the Devastation of Hurricane Katrina
The historical event of Hurricane Katrina, a category three hurricane with winds ranging from 111
130 mph, in August 2005 revealed major structural failures in the levee systems of New Orleans.
Though not all structural failures are as catastrophic, the breeched levees led to loss of life, homes,
businesses, highways, and left a trail of destruction that is still being repaired today. The result of
this failure led to lawsuits, conspiracy theories, and court cases. Hurricane Katrinahad a major effect
upon our country and those results are still rippling on today. Though a city once devastated, major
improvements to the failed system have been made and leave the city feeling safe once again.
When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between these three levees alone, the congressional inspection discovered more than fifty breeches
in the structural design. Once the speculations of a faulty levee system were proven correct, the
blame inevitably fell upon the designer s shoulders; the federal company of the U.S. army corps
of engineering. This organization admitted to have fallen short of the specifications required for
the levee. Five main studies were completed to determine the cause of the levee failure, two of
which derived from LSU and FEMA.
The studies found: that the levees did not follow design specifications, there were incomplete
sections, surrounding soil gave way, substandard construction of levee segments, and warning signs
were ignored.
Many comparable breeches along the levees were found throughout the city. Sections of the wall
that were incomplete and cracked prior to the hurricane were the first to fall. Many junctions of
the canals were poorly engineered and were too weak to handle any great amount of pressure.
The safe load for the canals was designed to hold around fourteen feet of water flow. In reality,
the canals were only built to safely hold seven feet of flow. In most places the water never
capped the tops of the canals, they simply broke when halfway full. One of the main causes for
this was that the steel sheet pilings were seven feet less deep than the designs called for. This
allowed for the already

Homer s Heroes
The epic poem called The Iliad written by Homer concerns the Trojan War. It shows Trojan and
Achaean warriors courage, bravery and their attempt to become the best fighter to get fame, glory,

Achilles strength comes from their desire for fame, glory, honor and their acceptance of fate.
These qualities are considered to be characteristics of Homer s heroic code. However, the actions
of Paris are not heroic causing trouble and conflict for many people. In fact, Paris non heroic action

Thetis...tells me of two possible destinies...two ways: if on one hand I remain to fight around Troy
town, I lose all hope of home but gain unfading glory; on the other, if I sail back to my own land
my glory fails but a long life lies ahead of me. (K 47 54)
The proper burial which Achilles does for all his victims in the war is a heroic action. Since
burial is a very important thing for both Achaeans and Trojans, the families of the dead ones were
able to appreciate Achilles respect for the dead people. Andromache says of Achilles attack on her
father:
He killed him, but, reverent at least in this, did not spoil him. Body, gear, and weapon forged so
handsomely, he burned, and heaped a barrow over the ashes. Elms were planted round by mountain
nymphs of him who bears the storm cloud. (J 127 33)
Achilles requests to his mother, Thetis, to ask Zeus and make the Trojans stronger until
Agamemnon and his army realize that they need Achilles back in order to win the war. So,
Thetis asks Zeus, Lend the Trojans power,/ until the Achaeans recompense my son/ and heap new
honour upon him! (C 20 23) The strategy that Achilles plans works out and eventually he is back
in the army. However since he chooses fame and glory over a long and relaxing life, the time for
Achilles death comes. Being the hero that he is, Achilles accepts his fate when Hector foreshadows
it and mentions his death is close by.

Banquo s Influence On Macbeth
Sometimes a thunder god can help out a mischief god. Often times throughout history and
ancient mythology, a person viewed as evil has a counter part that is viewed as good. For example,
Thor, the Norse god of weather/thunder was considered to be a good guy. However, his brother
Loki, the Norse god of mischief, was considered to be a bad guy. Thorhad to help keep his brother in
line throughout their childhood because if he did not, Lokiwould get in trouble. Loki would go
around playing tricks on the other gods and their children. He loved making himself laugh as
well as making others laugh. However, sometimes he pushed things too far. In Shakespeare s
The Tragedy of Macbeth, Banquo and Macbeth share some qualities with Thor and Loki. Thor
tried to help Loki just like Banquo tries to help Macbeth. Banquo is a person that is seen as a
leader because of his level headedness, just like Thor was a leader among the Norse gods. Like
Loki, Macbeth pushes things too far. He commits multiple murders and lies through his teeth

is how he had his friend murdered. He even sees Banquo s ghost and has a little fit in front of a

  • 2. The Significance Of White Collar Crime, And White Collar... When we hear the word crime, we automatically assume that it involves criminal or civil crimes. These crimes usually involve people in robberies, murders, or even injuries. However, there are also crimes that are committed by a company or a business. Business crimes or white collar crimes are crimes committed by a businesses or government professional. These crimes are often committed using confidential information attained by an individual to commit fraud. There are diverse types of white collar crimes, including tax fraud, telemarketing fraud, and insider trading. White collar crimewas first introduced by Edwin Sutherland in a presidential address to the American Sociological Society in 1939. During this address, he discussed the importance of these crimes and why they should be considered crimes (Shover 133). The reason that these crimes are often overlooked or not discussed are because of the difference in backgrounds and characteristics of the parties involved. The Internal Revenue Service(IRS) was established to carry out duties to the Secretary of Treasury. Under Code Sec 7801, the Secretary of Treasury reserves the right to establish any agency to help enforce revenue laws (Rettig 59). Thus, the IRS Criminal Investigation Unit was created on July 1, 1919, for the sole purpose of investigating claims of tax fraud (The History of IRS Criminal Investigation (CI)). Tax fraud is one type of white collar crime, which occurs when a company or individual tries to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Dont Judge a Book by the Cover Essay You Can t Tell Many people feel that you can tell a lot about a person by observing what they wear and what they eat. This is not the case. Choice of clothing and eating habits, in no way, allow you to pass judgment on a person. Judging people based on these factors is extremely shallow. What one wears and eats in no way depicts character, behavior, or even intelligence. One simply cannot know a person by looking at them and observing what they eat. Such a thought is ridiculous. Instead of looking at clothing and what one is eating, character should be the basis for opinion. Judging a book by the cover only leads to surprises, and in this case, judging a human by dress can lead to surprises as well. Just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wearing nice clothesand eating fancy food means nothing if the person behaves like a child. A person wearing dirty clothes and eating out of the garbage may behave better. This is why prejudging people can often wrong. A bum with good mannersand behavior would be more pleasant to be around than a rich, snob with no manners and horrible behavior. One cannot have a full outlook on an individual by just viewing their dress and eating habits. Looking at someone s clothing or what is in their refrigerator does not depict behavior. By seeing what one wears and eats in no way allows you to know if the person is intelligent. Crazy as it sounds, some bums are educated, smart people. These bums eating from garbage s may even carry a conversation better than someone wearing a business suit and eating Red Lobster every night. An intelligent person could simply choose not to care about dress. Not all smart people conform to what society feels is appropriate. Some may choose to dress like bums simply because they don t care. It doesn t mean they re any less smart or have less money. It could mean that such petty things do not get to this person. To me this shows tremendous strength. Intelligence cannot be judged by observing one s clothing and eating habits. One cannot tell a lot about people by observing what they wear and eat. • 4. The Importance Of Technology In Life Much like the rest of the developed world, technology has become a colossal part of my day to day life. From the second my cell phone s alarm function wakes me up in the morning, to the calculator I use in class, to the show I m currently watching on netflix when I m falling asleep. Technology is always right there with me. The biggest role that technology plays in my life is as an entertainment source. The modern cell phone is like a swiss army knife of entertaining things. If I m feeling particularly social, I ll open up snapchat and chat with a friend. Say I showed up way too early for my lecture, well then I would just set up Youtubeand watch a few videos until the class time comes around. Technology also plays an integral role in my school workflow. Both are completely reliant on the use of a computer or cell phone. Every single one of my classes relies on the D to L programme. It lets me know whether or not classes are canceled, what assignments are due when, it s even where I turn in most of my assignments. In fact, my Digital Media Culture class is a hybrid class, meaning that half of the criteria is to be met on my own time on a computer. A large part of my Digital Media classes rely on me being able to create content. And most of the time it is expected of me to finish this content on my own time. To do this, I use my laptop. My focus being filmmaking and graphic design, there really isn t anything that I don t use technology for. From creating photoshopped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Waste Of Waste Canadians throw out garbage in their everyday lives, but how much Canadians properly dispose of it? In 2015, roughly 2.3 million tonnes of garbage were thrown away in British Columbia alone, an average of 497 kilograms per capita. Imagine Canada s waste combined about 25 million tonnes. Often, household garbage ends up in landfills, but landfills are piling up and reaching maximum capacity. Unfortunately, it is becoming a struggle to find new areas to dispose of the tonnes of waste. Additionally, the problem of over capacitated landfills contributes to the environment s health and as a consequence, make approximately 25% of Canada s greenhouse gas emissions. Improperly discarding items, like batteries, electronics, and so forth, also contributes to the environment s health, creating the risk of water and soil contamination. It is up to Canadians and the decisions they make when it comes to recyclingand protecting the environment. Most household items, such as TV remotes, cell phones, wireless video game controllers, and more, require batteries to operate. Ultimately, single use or rechargeable batteries run out of juice or corrode, and become no longer usable. Nonetheless, Canadians are guilty disposing of batteries improperly, whether in the garbage bin or the blue bin, that later enter landfills. Statistics Canada informs, the most common method of disposal was taking them to a depot or drop off centre (43%), while some put them in the garbage (32%) or returned them ... • 6. Comparing The Film Cinderella And Charles Perrault s... A Fairytale s Interpretation Movies create a new medium for fairytales to be enjoyed. The visual appeal of tales is much greater rather than reading them; however, fairytale films lack an element of imagination. Cinderella, for example, is a tale that exists in both the written and visual mediums. The tale as written by Charles Perrault, named The Little Glass Slipper, provides room for imaginative visual interpretation from his words. An interpretation that movies do not allow. In both the film version and Perrault s written version, for instance, the audience receives the image of the glass slipper. The written version allows the audience to imagine the glass slipper in whichever way they see fit; the film portrays the glass slipper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using words in a fairytale would be more difficult and tedious to explain this part of the story. Films do provide a visual stimulation for audiences, and this Cinderella live action movie provides an interesting depiction of the fairytale. Charles Perrault s The Little Glass Slipper provides a readable version of the Cinderella fairytale. This well known version of Cinderella was not his first take of this tale, which may be how it became so famous: he managed all the kinks out of the tale for it to be child and adult friendly. This written tale gives you more context to the tale by the language used. The wording in the story provide deeper meaning by the connotation of the words. Such language includes odious, wretched, wench, magnificent, charming, and treasure. These words have ideas around them that associate feelings and previous experiences. These feelings allow the audience to use their own imagination and experiences to illustrate the fairytale. When Perrault describes Cinderella s treatment from her step family, this scene can identify with many readers, thus making their own inferences about the visual aspect of the tale and its characters. An example would be interpreting it as the demeaning hands and knees labor while scrubbing soot off the floor. Others can view their own version of hard labor. Charles Perrault s The Little Glass Slipper shares plot similarities with the Disney film version, but Disney adds more theatrical elements to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Don Juan Womanizer Charming, attentive, interested, witty, flirtatious, these are all traits of a womanizer. The only difference between a womanizer and a good man is a womanizer acts in this manner to get in your pants, not your heart. Don Juan the Trickster of Seville, his name says it all. Don Juan is a smooth talking, egotistical, cunning, never changing womanizer who thrives off of seducing women. His love for romance and women and his lack of moral obligation make him a guy that mothers warn their daughters about. His intoxicating wit and charm are irresistible to those who catch his eye. Not only is he a womanizer but a true representation of the wages of sin. Don Juan lives his life as if he is untouchable and true definition of a risk taker when it comes to sin. When he is seducing Aminta he is mocking the innocence by saying by this white hand, a winter of pure snow, take my hand (III, 290). He knows his hand (actions) aren t as pure as snow. Don Juan portrays arrogance and high self esteem. He has an unrealistic self image in that he believes he is superior to others, and feels it s his right to mock them. Don Juan feels he is superior because of his noblemen upbringing. His father is a kingsmen and so is his uncle so he feels he can get away with more than the average person. He has this air about him that he is better than everyone else and proves it with mockery. Everything to Don Juan is a joke and he doesn t see why everyone gets so upset about his tricks. • 8. What Is The Evil In Lord Of The Flies There is darkness inside everyone. Evil, malice, wickedness. Society attempts to stomp out these innate traits. In his critically acclaimed novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding explores what happens to a person when the pressures of society are removed. A group of British boys are stranded on an island without any adults. They form a society that slowly falls apart as half of the boys, led by Jack, are drawn into the savage life accepted on the island. Ralph s group attempts to remain civil, but their success is questionable. Jack s group becomes more and more brutal and savage, and three of the boys die. Golding wrote this book as an allegoryfor the psychoanalytic theory of the personality, the Id, Ego, and Superego. The Id is the evil part, driven by base instincts and desires. The Superego strives for morality and rules, and the Ego attempts to balance the two out. Golding strongly believed that humans at their most base level are evil, a theory developed through his life experiences. Golding fought in WW II, and is quoted saying World War II was the turning point for me. I began to see what people were capable of doing. ( William Golding3) Golding believed that without society people would revert entirely to the Id, foregoing the Superego. He expressed this message in Lord of the Flies by characterizing different boys as the different parts of the personality. He explored what happens to the personality through the development of these characters. Golding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The crack grew to a size which allowed the oil in the pipe to be released in the HP/IP buffer space, during the occurrence flight. There was severe damage caused to the flight. However, the robust design and structural strength of the jet sustained the damage which might have destroyed the airlines of the past decade. The crew members of Qantas displayed excellent skills in managing the incident and the high standards of piloting culture saved QF32 from a catastrophic crash which enabled Qantas to keep up the brand name and protect its values of safety of customers . The management decided to ground the fleet of A380s for further inspection after the incident. The ATSB carried out a detailed investigation along with Rolls Royce and several other global agencies. The story is a gripping tale of three teen boys living on the edge , in which the author presents himself and his friends as a group of dangerous individuals. One would think that the narrator has truth in his words, but all events in the story point to the contrary. T. Corahessan Boyle, or T. C. Boyle for short, is an unreliable narrator. Among these stories, two of them being A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People, she has included some of the most fleshed out and grotesque characters I have ever read. O Conner brings her characters to life throughout her writing in near flawless and subtle detail with ironic humor. For example, O Conner makes skillful use of ironic names for her characters. The titles and names such as grandmother, the misfit, Joy/Hulga, and the bible salesman are used ironically. These subtle characterizations help guide the reader to the final, and often times ironic, conclusions all her characters deserve. The Grandmothers character ... He further explains how as a result of people focusing on her status as a grandmother rather than how she behaves, most people dismiss her annoying nagging and racist comments (1). In the text of A Good Man is Hard to Find, when the grandmother and the children are dancing, O Conner emphasizes how one may see the grandma as a harmless happy person when the grandma asks her son Bailey to dance. He refuses, claiming he does not have a sunny disposition like his mother who is able to just get up and dance. Unfortunately, I must agree with Bandy because it is something most people tend to do, and it is important to beyond a person s outward appearance. As Bandy mentions, the grandmother and the misfit are often intertwined in many critics reviews of A Good Man is Hard to Find (1). One of the most obvious ironies they share is that you perceive one as being the opposite of the other for the wrong reasons. With the grandmother, as stated before, one may assume her to be a good person, while she is in fact the opposite. While the Misfit would most likely be associated as a murderer and a horrible monster, he in fact is a decent human being. Wynne emphasizes the humor in the grandmother s attempt to save herself by calling the Misfit one of her children (1). As if she is good and therefore he, being of the same good blood, must also be good. In these aspects I completely agree with these writer s interpretations of the grandmother and the ... The riot started after a young black man was accused of having sexual contact and raping a young white female who was operating an elevator. He was later taken into custody and rumors raced all throughout the Negro Community. Over 800 people had to be taken to the hospitals and over 6,000 negroes were taken into custody. Tulsa Policemen made every negro evacuate their homes. After the homes vacated, said one Greenwood resident, one bunch of whites would come in and loot. Even women with shopping bags would come in, open drawers, take every kind of finery from clothing to silverware and jewelry. Men were carrying out the furniture, cursing as they do so, saying, These damned Negroes have better things than lots of white people. • 33. Homeless Families Essay Homeless families compose a fraction of the homeless population as they represent roughly a third of the homeless population in the United States (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, 2010), and approximately 1.5 million children 1 in 50 youngsters are homeless each year in the United States (p. 389). These homeless families often struggle to find permanent residency as a collective unit. There are several types of housing situations available for homeless families such as temporary housing, transitional housing settings, and shelters, yet the housing situation for homeless families often causes stress for families as stability and a secure home is always in question. The lack of stable, consistent housing is the central, deп¬Ѓning characteristic of families experiencing homelessness, distinguishing them and their experience(s) from those with stable housing who experience other correlated conditions (e.g., poverty) (Kilmer, Cook, Crusto, Strater, and Haber, 2012, p. 394). Homeless families often seek different types of housing usually by first reaching out to temporary shelters in emergency situations like domestic violence that often lead to homelessness, which provide services for children and families. There are many challenges families encounter in the process of seeking permanent housing. The solution is two pronged: change the American philosophy on consumerism and debt while also making concrete changes in the way the lending industry works. Both demand taking a long term view in order to be successful. A New Philosophy Changing one s philosophy is easy, but putting it into practice on a daily basis is not. One needs to employ will power, diligence and the ability to think long term, all virtues that fell by the wayside long ago in America. People signed on the dotted line without understanding what they were committing to, and those employed to guide them through the process were no more versed in the products themselves. Enforcing more stringent certification requirements for individual loan officers would help salespeople to better understand their products, making them more capable of guiding clients into the best fit loans. Finally, in addition to increasing the level of training required for loan officers, it would be beneficial for borrowers to demonstrate a certain level of understanding of what they are committing to. Harm Principles In order to begin discussing how lawmakers can legitimately draw a line between permitted and criminal activity there are two principles which need to be defined and acknowledged, the harm principle and the offense principle. The harm principle, initially created by John Stuart Mill in his essay On Liberty , is heavily centred around the protection of society. According to Mill, the only sufficient reason to criminalise certain behaviours and activities is if it causes harm to members of the society or society as a whole, harm to oneself is not a strong reason to criminalise behaviours as we have a right to individual autonomy. Muller raises a case against amputation based on the principle of autonomy. On the one hand autonomy can be used to argue for the rights of body modifications like for plastic surgery for aesthetic or sexual purposes but on the other hand the autonomy of BIID patients is heavily doubted. • 40. Self Control And Its Effect On Society According to BrainyQuote, Buddha once said, To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one s family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one s own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him. Self control is the restraint from oneself and actions, particularly in one s desires and emotions. It separates us, humans, from ancient ancestors as well as the rest of the animal kingdom. When one has the chance to enact poorly and cause harm to others, self control is the essential aspect one must learn to withdraw from these activities. Commonly, being able to control one s actions provides the difference between life and death. To many people in today s society, emotions that arise from sensitive situations may result in the use of violence in order to receive closure. Guns, for example, are deadly weapons used to accomplish these acts, and when people fail to yield the use of guns, problems arise. Gun control is a well disputed argument regarding the regulations enacted upon the withdrawal from guns. History of Gun Control and the Origins of the Problem Gun control involves laws and policies that regulate the ownership and use of guns in order to reduce crime. The creativity is shown by the content of the advertisement. With the use of a stop sign to replace half of a child s face, big bolded words, color scheme, and half of a child s face the company used creativity in designing the advertisement. The only skill that was used was the structure of the advertisement.
