Essay On Sacrifice In Victor Hugo s Les Miserables
After any child is born, the parents hold them in their arms and stare at all their little features. The
parents make a promise to them to do whatever it takes to protect them. Their little eyes looking into
their parents, with an instant connection. In the book, Les Misérables by Victor Hugo, displays the
unconditional love parents should have for their children.
Fantine makes sacrifice after sacrifice in order to try to provide a happy life for Cosette. I have eighty
francs, Cosette says, That will leave me enough to go into the country if I walk. I will earn some
money there, and as soon as I have I will come for my little one (44). Fantine has given her child to a

They take advantage of their children and only care for themselves. When Cosette comes in their life,
they treat her extremely unjust. While Cosette is living with the Thénardiers, her life could be
compared to that of the Cinderella story. They treated her like an animal as, They fed her on the odds
and ends, a little better than the dog, and a little worse than the cat (46). Basically, the Thénardiers
were just using Cosette for the money that Fantine was sending in. They would lie to Fantine about the
child being sick or needing something, just to get more money from her. Monsieur Thénardier
exclaimed, I will confound her with the brat in the midst of her concealment. I must have more money
(47). The family of thieves sucked all the money from Fantine, but didn t even use it on Cosette.
Although the Thénardier biological children were treated a little better than Cosette, they wouldn t

Campus Stadium Case
The resurgence of Temple University s football program has lead the school wanting a $126 million,
35,000 seat stadium in the heart of North Philadelphia. The surrounding community outcry, skeptical
legislators and a summer leadership crisis forced Temple s president, Neil Theobald, to step down.
Since Theobald was the driving force behind the stadium, Temple has no clear timeline to bring a
proposal to City Hall. The Owls have paid rent since 2003 to play at Lincoln Financial Field, home of
the Philadelphia Eagles. To build its own campus stadium, Temple needs legislation passed by City
Council. Although a stadium would bring a vibrant buzz to the campus, difficult obstacles stand in the
way of North Philadelphia seeing a stadium in their backyard.

Arming the individual employee with the working knowledge associated with their work environment

Guilt In Macbeth And Lady Macduff
Most people have, at some time in their life, felt a great sense of guilt. The emotion is an unforgiving
attitude towards oneself, that occurs when a person has violated their moral standard. Guilt can either
destroy one or catapult them into action. This profound emotion is a noteworthy theme in the tragedy,
Macbeth. It dramatically impacts the characters in the Shakespearean play; they suffer terribly because
of their senseless actions. In Shakespeare s Macbeth, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Macduff suffer
from terrible guilt; however the cause of their remorse and the stages in which they deal with their
emotion differ.
Macbeth s actions cause him to inherit a great sense of remorse. However, as his personality develops,
Macbeth begins to overlook his guilt. When the thane gains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

How Did The Airplane Change The World
Planes are very helpful and instrumental in the time we live in. Wilbur and Orville Wright fell in love
with the idea of flight through watching birds soar through the air. While the Wright brothers wanted
to glide in the sky, they had no idea what the future of the airplane would look like. From the time that
they designed and began taking test flights in 1903, their airplane became transformed. As a society
we have become dependent on the modern day aircraft. Whether for travel, deliveries, or for use
during war, the airplane is an amazing invention that has changed our world. Once the Wright brothers
took their first flight, the airplane began changing rapidly. In 1915 the United States started making
fighter planes to use in WWI. The plane quickly changed the face of war. Airplanes were now able to
take pictures of the enemies land, attack without using ground troops, and support the needed ground
troops in a new way. Today the Air Force uses planes for their speed, cargo capacity, support to
countries in need, and for possible bomb drops. Bombers, attack aircraft, and fighters are what make
up the Air Force. Without planes, a lot of lives would be lost. ... Show more content on

vessels causing vasoconstriction which lessens the amount of blood circulating in the brain resulting
in a decreased ICP (Zink and McQuillan, 2005). According to Zink and McQuillan, this intervention
should only be utilized 24 hours after the initial injury because cerebral blood flow is often reduced at
this point and constricting the vessels more may cause ischemia to occur. While using this technique it
is important to monitor oxygenation to the brain tissue to assure no irreparable damage is

Steven Spielberg s Reputation Of Jaws
Sharks have a bad reputation for being some of the most vicious animals on the face of this earth.
Steven Spielberg s 1975 block buster thriller movie jaws demonized sharks and portrayed them as
these vicious human eating animals and gave people a different perception of these animals. Jaws
served as that catalyst that propelled other movie makers to create films based on the vengeance of
sharks. All of these movies feed off of the fear that Jaws started. Jaws capitalized on the public fear of
sharks following the rise in human/shark interactions. With the increase in shark attacks, people
lauded the film that gave them both a monster shark and an experienced hunter that killed it. The

which is often the case when attacked by predators or stepped on.

Negative Ramifications Of The Industrial Revolution
Positive and Negative Ramifications of the Industrial Revolution Long hours, low pay, new
inventions, and business booms all became a commonplace in the Industrial Revolution. The
Industrial Revolution took place between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It began in Great
Britain and over time eventually spread throughout the rest of Europe. During this time period a lot of
changes in the economy occurred. These changes affected everything from manufacturing to how an

New and different inventions were a positive ramification that came out of the Revolution. New
inventions were a way of building on society and without almost all of these inventions technology
and production would not be advanced later on in time. Some of the inventions to come out of this
were the Steam Engine, Steam Boat, the telephone, Spinning Jenny, Cotton Gin, and Power Loom. All
of these inventions helped to create industrialization and advancement in technology ( Important
Inventions ). Another significant result of this time era was new laws and regulations. Early in the
Revolution in factories and workplaces there were no laws or regulations that prohibited things like
the bad treatment of employees, under age working children, dangerous machinery, and many more.
The Factory Act for example limited nine sixteen year olds an eight hour a day work shift, thirteen to
eighteen year olds a twelve hour work shift a day, and children who are under the age of thirteen have
to have at least two hours of education paid for by their employers. Other acts that were put in place
are the Health and Moral of Apprentices Act, Peel s Factory Act, and the Mines Act ( The Industrial ) .
Mass production and the assembly line were a great outcome of the Industrial Revolution. Before
mass production most products were handmade

The Integration Of The Mdgs Into The Indonesia s National...
3.2. The NLTDP, NMTDP and the MDGs
As a reflection of Indonesia s increased willingness to play a cooperative role in the international
arena, the government is becoming increasingly aware of the importance of providing a systematic
data to measure development progress. Although there are many instances where various international
development programs are being incorporated into the national development plan, in this dissertation I
present a case study on the integration of the MDGs into the Indonesia s national development plan as
a specific example where the Indonesian government takes a proactive role in integrating an
international development agenda into its national development plan.
3.2.1. Why MDGs?
Aside from the MDGs being the first comprehensively outlined global development goals that were
agreed by UN member states, the fact that they provide specific indicators illustrate that the MDGs are
able to provide the initial frameworks for developing countries to achieve development objectives
deemed as important by setting specific goals and targeted indicators which statutory countries have
pledged to fulfil by the end of 2015. The multi dimensional nature of what consist of development as
outlined in the MDGs will also enable us to incorporate a more holistic view of development, as
opposed to the traditional interpretation of development that almost exclusively refers to economic
progress.
Furthermore, Indonesia was one of the 189 UN member state signees of the

Pechorin s decision to never back down from a duel parallels to Lermontov s life and how he fought
like a man in order to be thought upon as a man. Lermontov died from a duel, however he was a

strong role as a Russian male of the 19th century. Cossack Village, a town in The Fatalist exemplifies
the importance of the male s military experience. During this time, males enrolled in the military

Comparing Opera Seria to Orfeo Ed Euridice by Gluck and...
Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck, was written in 1762 and The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart was written
in 1786. It is interesting to analyse the changes and developments from opera seria to these two
examples.
During the eighteenth century, composers wrote in a style of opera called opera seria. Opera seria had
the following characteristics:
They used similar plots involving a hero and usually some sort of conflict of human passions, and
these operas were often based on a story from an ancient Greek or Latin Author. The opera always
consisted of three acts with alternating recitatives and arias. To show the virtuosic skill of the singer,
cadenzas were used within arias. The action was created from the dialogue within the recitatives, ...

There were also stricter demands of the solo singers. The two mid eighteenth century composers,
Jomelli and Traetta played a big part in the reform of Italian opera in the late 18th century by
influencing the French towards opera of a more international flavour.
Born in Bohemia, Gluck built a more international style of opera. He was strongly affected by the
movement of the reform in the 1750s. He became court composer to the Emperor at Vienna after visits
to London and studying under Samartini in Italy. After a collaboration with a poet named Raniero
Calzabigi, Gluck composed two of his famous operas, `Orfeo ed Euridice in 1762 and `Alceste in
1767. Gluck s aims were to remove the unpopular characteristics of opera seria, as shown by his
famous quote:
To confine music to its proper function of serving the poetry for the expression and the situations of
the plot
He removed the overuse of da capo aria or the showing off desire of the singer; he also broke down
the contrast of the recitative and aria and gave his opera more dramatic relevance than had been the
case in opera seria:
I believed that my greatest effort should be directed to seek in a beautiful simplicity ...and there is no
accepted rule that I have not thought should be gladly sacrificed in favour of effectiveness.
One important way, in which Gluck reformed opera, was the use of his choruses as we can see in the
beginning of Orfeo ed Euridice. Example below.

Secret Sin In The Scarlet Letter
Happy you, Hester, that wear the scarlet letter openly upon your bosom! Mine burns in secret! Thou
little knowest what a relief it is, after the torment of a seven years cheat, to look into an eye that
recognizes me for what I am! (Hawthorne 131). The inner torment seen within Dimmesdale reflected
the weight of his sin emphasized by the Puritan culture. The social constructs created and withheld by
the Puritans lead to the demise of one character, and the awakening of another in The Scarlet Letter.

The Pearl Reflection
The Pearl, written by John Steinbeck in 1944, is a thoughtful classic. The Pearl follows Kino, the main
character, along with his wife, Juana, and their baby, Coyotito. The family lives in a poor town by the
sea. Kino is a pearl diver and lives a peaceful life. This all goes awry when a scorpion bites Coyotito,
and they are unable to receive medical help because of their poor status. Despite being unable to
receive treatment, they continue with their normal routines. However, the next day was anything but
normal; Kino found a large pearl during his dive. He was the center of the town s attention, and he
now had the attention of the doctor. Coyotito was healed, but the doctor was still treating him; since
the doctor wanted to act like he healed Coyotito, just to get the pearl. Kino and Juana decided that they
should sell the pearl, As they look for buyers, they were forced to elude thieves. When they left the
town to sell the pearl, they were followed by trackers who wanted the pearl. Kino ambushes them to
protect his family, but Coyotito is killed from the attack. The family blames all of their misfortune on
the pearl, and they throw it back into the sea. The pearl has shown that greed is a powerful force. This
is reinforced in many ways throughout the book.
The power of greed is first shown through the doctor, who purposely misdiagnosed Coyotito. The
doctor had always only wanted to help those who could pay well, he did not care about the poor
families. The doctor refused to see Coyotito at first since the family would be unable to pay. Coyotito
suffered until Kino found the huge pearl. Once the doctor learned that the family had the valuable
pearl, he wanted to help and treat the baby. He treated the baby but also infected him on purpose just
to later treat him. The doctor had hoped that his heroic medical treatment would earn him the pearl.
When the doctor demanded payment, Kino refused and explains that he plans to sell the pearl. The
doctor is furious and plans to steal the pearl instead. He hits Kino in the head, but Kino stabs and kills
him. This proves that the power of greed for the pearl can make someone purposely make a someone

People know a day s live in a generation where they rely on technology for an everyday basis, and

it can be the reason why this generation is considered The Dumbest Generation. With there being

Biomedical Approach Vs Biopsychosocial Approach
Imagine, for a moment, a mother who is the life of the party, the center of attention, and the ultimate

what would be the proper approach to her condition? There are two options that this paper will

Piaget Developmental Stages
Piaget believed that learning was an individual and physical process. He claims that development
occurs in stages. Piaget classified a stage as a period during which children s behaviours and thoughts
reflected a certain type of underlying mental structure (Fialho, 2016). He believed that each stage was
interconnected, in that each of the stages derives from its predecessor. The stages must be performed
in the order in which Piaget specified. Piaget also claimed that the stages were universal across all
cultures (Tourmen, 2016). The first stage, the Sensorimotor stage occurs from birth to two years old.
During this time, children gain knowledge regarding their sensory and motor abilities. The second
stage is called the preoperational stage, which occurs from the ages of two, to seven. Once children
reach this stage, they can use language, symbolic thought and mental imagery (Wellman, 2011). The
Concrete operational stage is the third stage of development and occurs around seven to eleven years
old. Piaget claimed that children are now able to obtain certain logical structures which will allow
them to perform mental operations (Brown Modgil, 2006). The final stage is called the Formal
operational stage, which occurs at the age of eleven to fifteen years old. Once ... Show more content

The Syrian Refugee And Migration Crisis
The pioneering seminars for this course identified and introduced the groupings of the multiplicity of
theories, which exist in the world of International Relations today. The study of International Relations
like any other academic field of study makes use of theories and frameworks through which the field
is conceptualized; therefore, one must be careful when grouping these theories even further, by paying
attention to the individual similarities and differences which are found within these theories and how
they complement or contrast each other. According to International Relations by Joshua Goldstein, Jon
Pevehouse and Sandra Whitworth (hereof known as Goldstein et al.), one way to look at the variety of
theories is to distinguish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, it will conclude that the most suitable method for viewing International Relations, and the
method which I find most persuasive is the liberal pluralist perspective, as it best supports the mandate
for world peace.
Individuals who identify with realist paradigm, according to Goldstein et al., find their most fertile
ground in the subfield of international security, with its logic of military power (Goldstein et al., 5)
this means that they place a specific focus on the powers of military in anticipation of any possible
outbreak of war. This perspective mirrors the opening arguments of the Huffington Post article as it
labels its sub topic with a quote from Prime Minister Stephen Harper, No Solution to Syrian Crisis
Without Military Support (Huffington Post). From this perspective, the Conservative leader can be
characterized as a realist as he acknowledges the state actor, in this case, Canada to be the most
important actor, and while assuming the position of a decision maker who helps to decide what
Canada must do on a global stage in relation to the middle east, which in this in case he proffers a
deployment of troops into Syria.
Realists believe that the most important actors in world politics are states and state decision makers

Who Is Flawed In Edith Hamilton s Mythology Flawed
I Woke Up Like This : Flawed
One of the common things among cultures is myths. Myths are deeply ingrained within the cultures
we grow up in. Whether it s Johnny Appleseed in the US or the Talking Foxes of Eritrea. Myths give
birth to heroes. And heroes plant different seeds in people depending upon the moral of the story. Such
messages are portrayed in Edith Hamilton s book, Mythology , which depicts different heroes with
different stories. Heroes are more inspirational when depicted as flawed due to their likability to
human beings, thereby being more relatable to common people and spurring confidence that they re
just as capable.
Hercules is one of the heroes whose flaws and strengths are distinct and obvious. He s strong and
powerful, as well as brave. However he also murdered his family . He was very reckless and had an
explosive rage. He was quite daft as well. In fact, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reading about clean cut and immaculate heroes would make them strive to reach that level of
perfection. In fact Life, Death, and Subjectivity: Moral Sources in Bioethics a philosophical book on
existence by Stan Van Hooft states, ....every living thing must strive for its own perfection (pg.110).
However, this argument neglects the fact that the idea of perfection is subjective. Creating a box by
which you would abide by, in order to achieve perceived perfection is very limiting. On top of that, the
strive for perfection is a bottomless pit. Meaning perfection is unattainable and attempting to achieve
it will prove futile. It would only lead to self dissatisfaction and shame for not achieving it. One can
only try their best and proceed to learn from their mistakes as well grow and overcome their flaws.
Flawed heroes serve as examples to audiences that will internalize what they read/see and grasp that
their flaws shouldn t disturb their journey and matters they take on in

The Salem Witch Trial
Many assumptions have been made by historians to explain the occurrence of the Salem witchcraft
trials, and on why the afflicted girls behaved the way they did, but yet there still seems to remain a
sense of doubt on this issue. It seems that this case is not just because of one factor such as Ergotism,
but several more. The affliction started by mind suggestion. The early beliefs and superstitions in
Puritanical society that were practiced on an everyday basis supported the idea that the behaviors and
physical conditions of the afflicted girls were the evil works of the witches, and the Devil. Among
many Puritans, this belief becomes a fear, and then this fear becomes like an additional topping that
adds up to causing convulsive hysteria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Choking is unusually common: there are cases of arc de cercle, and the hysteric s ability to induce
bruises or welts on the skin may well explain some of the teeth marks (Davidson Lytle 33). These
symptoms of Convulsion Hysteria seem to be similar to the symptoms of bewitchment . For example,
the afflicted girls often accused their tormentor for strangling on their throats, which is relevant to
choking sensation in Convulsion Hysteria. Since the people at that period did not have much
knowledge on Medical science and health, and had to often rely on natural herbs and witch doctors,
not only must have Hysteria occurred, but there must have been other health related issues that might
have affected the way the afflicted girls behaved. Ergot poisoning can be a possibility. The convulsive
symptoms that can be a result of consuming poisonous ergot contaminated rye bread must have been
the cause of girls being bewitched. Rye is a common grain which was heavily relied by the Puritan
society during that time, and the important part of it to highlight is that it was contaminated with the
fungus (Ergot). It is most likely to grow in damp conditions. Variations in weather are therefore crucial
for its growth. In New England, Rye was often grown when wheat crops were devastated by rust.
Consuming Ergot causes hallucination and suffocation, which might have been interpreted at that time
by the Puritans as being tormented or possessed by the

Analysis Of The Movie Rampart
The movie, Rampart, which is set in Los Angeles in 1999 and focused on the life of 24 year veteran
Officer Dave Brown of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) as a part of the Rampart division.
He is a man of his own breed who follows his own code of justice disregarding the solid line that
stands between right and wrong. Brown is prone to using violence and intimidation to maintain his
own idea that he is the unnoticed, underappreciated vigilante for the public. Although he has a hero
complex, he does not seem to form intimate emotional connections, even though he was married to
two women (both of which are sisters) and has a daughter by each woman. Neither of the women
seemed to feel any emotional connection to Brown seeing as they all live together for the sake of the
children, regardless of the obvious fact that his children do not seem to have a strong bond with him
either. Years earlier Brown was involved in the death of a suspected serial rapist, which put the police
department under stress as well as earned him the nickname Date Rape Dave . To further the spotlight
on the LAPD and Officer Brown, a video was aired on the local television stations of Brown
unnecessarily beating an individual who crashed into the back of his police vehicle. An assistant DA
pressures and urges Brown to retire to try and prevent the police department from undergoing more
fire and speculation from the public. The actions of Brown thrusts a tear in the relationship between

Methodology And Format Of Any Scientific Work Essay
Research design
This refers to the plan, structure and format of any scientific or statistical work. It serves the purpose
of guiding the researcher in his study and will set out the framework to be used. Research design will
basically cover the data collection process, tools of collecting such data, how the tools will be used to
collect data and how to analyze the collected data into a useful form (Gosling, 2014). A problem will
be raised by researcher in which he will carry out his course study to draw an answer
throughcollecting data (Meyer, et al, 2012).
The research process is as follows: Statement of problem is identified( Research problem); Making a
plan how to start the actual research is determined; Determining research type to use and Stating
methods to use. The research problem will be identified as follows:
1. Obtaining a problem you are already aware of. You may choose from social environment and any
other facts that researcher knows.
2. Asking from experts and teachers. This is also another avenue of obtaining a research problem.
Practitioners can be interviewed who will provide a much deeper insight to a problem. This is one of
the best methods since practitioners have myriad of experience in research field and

The Importance Of Animals And Animal Life
As years go by, the population of humans increase, with the expansion of humans more land is needed
to provide shelter and other necessities. Yet, humans do not comprehend that they also must consider
the animals and plants lifestyle. Nowadays, people do not recognize the damages they do to society.
As each year passes, each person s changes the way they think and contributes a domino effect. When
trees are cut down and other landmarks are used to build supermarkets or hotels, humans are taking
away homes of those creatures and their food supply to survive. Humans unknowingly and knowingly,
at times relocate animals to various locations and that animal must change its habitat to be able to
survive, thinking it will be for the better. Not understanding that humans have done wrong in
unbalancing the ecosystem and what disaster come along with the trouble they started. Jack Ewing in
Monkeys are made of Chocolate provides the reader with useful information about what has been
going on with the planet and how people can change their mindsets, when will mankind accepts the
fact that if they do not learn the knowledge of what actions must be taken to provide a better lifestyle
for Earth, humans will die along with the plants and animals.
Humans tend to live a wasteful lifestyle and do not think much of what can be done to benefit

The Effect of Solute Concentration on Osmosis in Potatoes.
Martina Oganesyan
Title of investigation: The effect of solute concentration on osmosis in potatoes.
Research question: What is the solute concentration of a potato?
Hypothesis:
Osmosis is the movement of water across the membrane from an area of high concentration to an area
of low concentration. The osmosis continues until the solute concentrations are equal in both areas. In
this experiment, we put pieces of potatoes into test tubes with sugar solutions of different
concentrations and leave them there over night. It was done in order to compare the initial mass of the
pieces and the ones after being placed into the solute concentration. Pieces which were placed into a
hypotonic (lower) concentration of solute should increase in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
From this we can conclude that measuring mass gives more logical and accurate results than
measuring length. It is so because a balance measures more precisely than a human eye using a ruler,
which also doesn t even take into account if there is a widening in the potato pieces.
However, there are also some errors in this experiment. Firstly, the potato pieces were not exactly the
same size despite the care taken to cut them. A solution to this would be to use a form cutter, which
would cut exactly equal shapes. Secondly, the temperature is not exactly a constant variable as it
fluctuated throughout the experiment as the test tubes were even put in a refrigerator with a much
lower temperature than in the room. A solution for improving could be to place the test tubes into an
electric cooler in the beginning to make the temperature stable and put potato pieces when the test
tubes are in the cooler. Also, errors could be decreased by using a more precise beaker. Finally,
repeating the experiment several times would allow as to take the average results and have a more
adequate result.
Conclusion:
Thanks to this experiment, we are able to answer our research question. The solute concentration of a
potato is 0.47 mol/l. Also, we can deduce that the method of measuring the mass gives more accurate
results than the method of measuring the length. I say that because the correlation coefficient obtained
was 0.95 which is very close to 1. However, there are

Hunger Satire
Everyone feels it at one point or another. Hunger will sink its claws into anyone it comes in contact
with. Hunger, to most people, is their stomachs making slow rumbling noises; sometimes a deep ache
in the pit of the stomach; not knowing what it is they crave but know they want something. They say
hunger is simply the body needing food. While this is correct, it s the ignorant man s answer. I was
one of those ignorant people, until I experienced what it feels like to need something so bad I can t
think of anything else.
Hunger is not limited to someone merely wanting a midnight snack. It s the pain experienced when the
stomach has nothing inside but still tries to digest; the pain someone who knows they need to eat but
cannot fathom putting one bite of food into their mouth feels. Hunger is the feeling starving people
feel, as if their innards are being twisted so tight they might pop; the look in their eyes when they see a

person who wants to do what they love, but have no time to do it. It s present when someone loses a

What Does The Chrysanthemums Symbolism
The story The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck, like many stories by this author, is loaded with
symbolism and concepts about human nature. Each description of characters, places, and physical
aspects is written in a way that is simple to understand, but one should not be tricked by his ordinary
words since there is always a greater meaning behind them. In this particular story, if one considers
the period of time when the story was written, which was the nineteen thirties, is perceived how
Steinbeck presents the readers with an uncommon matter that not many writers wrote about. That
matter, being, the topic of women and their sexuality, which is the main focus of the story, in a time
when a woman s life is dominated by men and as a consequence, many women are deprived of their
personal, social and sexual fulfillment. These deprivations in a woman s life are illustrated within the
descriptions and events that occur around the primary symbol in this story, the flower chrysanthemum,
which as the story advances, reveals itself to symbolize Elisa s femininity, her fulfillment as a woman
and even her.
Elisa s masculine descriptions such as her face being lean and strong, her body being blocked and
heavy, and the man s black hat that she is wearing, which in a way, they hide the feminine side of her,
but in another way they also emphasize how she could be doing a different, or more challenging, job
in her life than just cultivating flowers. In the story, she is more

Latino Americans And Hispanic Americans
Hispanic Americans are the largest minority group in the United States. They make up approximately
16 percent of the country s population. They are considered both an ethnic and a racial minority group.
Their language, a cultural characteristic, identifies them as an ethnic minority group. Their physical
appearance identifies Hispanic Americans as a racial minority group (Healy 2012).
The majority of the Hispanic American population is located in the southwest part of the country. The
three largest populations of Hispanic people include immigrants from Mexico, Cuba, and Puerto Rico.
Most of the Hispanic Americans that live in the southwest part of the United States come from
Mexico. The majority of the Cuban population lives in or around the Miami Florida area. The Puerto
Rican population typically resides in the northeast corner of the United States including New York and
New Jersey (Healy 2012).
Although the Hispanic Americans share a language and certain customs, they are widely diverse and
consider themselves different social entities. Some Hispanic Americans made this country their home
long before the founding fathers arrived and signed the Declaration of Independence (Healy 2012).
The Latino population is growing rapidly. This is caused by a combination of their high birthrates and
of immigration. However, the Mexican American population has a growth rate above the national
average. Between 1890 and 2009 their population has more than doubled (Healy 2012).

Noise Barriers: White Noise

Assessment
Hospital noise is more than an annoyance. It disrupts patient sleep, creates spikes in blood pressure,
and hinders wound healing and pain management. The post partum unit at North Fulton Hospital has
installed a traffic light device that reinforces awareness of the need for a quieter atmosphere by
monitoring the noise level and turning from yellow to red as it rises. Even with this added device,
noise consistently gets the worst marks on patient surveys. Noise reduction efforts really gained
momentum recently, when Medicare began basing a portion of hospital reimbursement on quality
measurements including patient ratings of the quality of care (Landro, 2013). Additional measures
need to be put in place in order to improve quality care by reducing distracting noises. White noise
amplified through an intercom or machine will make the typical sounds become less obtrusive or
obvious to the patient.

staff members, signs on doors as a reminder to keep noise levels decreased, and dimming lights during
night shifts ( Transforming Care , 2014). In order to create this culture of quiet, collaborative efforts

Classical art and in Renaissance art, nudity was relevant and useful to the expression of the idea that
the creator was trying to convey. Time has not changed the relevance or usefulness of nude art. First, it
must be stated that all nude art is not acceptable. Pornography and other forms should in no way be

nude art. Once this intelligence is removed, the nude art no longer holds any meaning or significance.
As can be seen from the previous evidence and other examples not mentioned, there are certain
patterns that art and artists have been following throughout the past years. One of the present
examples of the pattern is Cider House Rules. During the movie, there are two minor scenes which

scene, that needs clarification, is the sex scene in the woods. This scene involved the two characters,

It was designed to be used to perform basic arithmetic operations. Every computer supports some
form of input, processing as well as output. In a modern computer, these processing is done
electronically hence enabling a vastly greater number of calculation to be performed in lesser time.
Binary codes which are representations of numerical numbers were used to process images, sounds,
text and graphic. In digital computers, there are ones and zeros that represents the electrical on and off
states and endless combinations of those to process any input.
Moving on, the development of computer can be assessed from two perspectives. One perspective
would be the invention of hardware components over time like vacuum tubes, transistors, integrated
circuits and microprocessors that can be referred to as a generation of change. In the other hand,
another perspective would be how user friendly were the computers over a period of time. In the
1950s the computers were almost impossible to use except by very patient geniuses. Next in the 1960s
and 1970s, it could only be programmable by highly trained people. Lastly, from the 1980s till present
time the computers are now smaller cheaper and useable by just about anyone.
From the hardware development perspective, the first generation of computer was the Electronic
Numerical Integrator And Computer (ENIAC). These first electronic computers used vacuum tubes.

this scene on, the audience is shown multiple shots of the beasts. These beasts are usually portrayed

Therefore, they should keep their minds, especially being young and on the debate team (Washington,

he was telling the students about his father. However, I believe he had thought them a good lesson in

I think was good.
However, in another scene, Denzel Washington employs Public discourse ethics. Public discourse

The second task will be with janitorial services. This service provided will ensure that all garbage bins

cleaned to prevent mold from accumulating, all microwaves and coffee machines will be cleaned
daily, and vacuuming of all carpeted areas will be performed twice a day. It is vital that

Basically, the Thénardiers were just using Cosette for the money that Fantine was sending in. Monsieur Thénardier exclaimed, I will confound her with the brat in the midst of her concealment. I must have more money (47). The family of thieves sucked all the money from Fantine, but didn t even use it on Cosette. The surrounding community outcry, skeptical legislators and a summer leadership crisis forced Temple s president, Neil Theobald, to step down. Since Theobald was the driving force behind the stadium, Temple has no clear timeline to bring a proposal to City Hall. The Owls have paid rent since 2003 to play at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles. To build its own campus stadium, Temple needs legislation passed by City Council. Although a stadium would bring a vibrant buzz to the campus, difficult obstacles stand in the way of North Philadelphia seeing a stadium in their backyard. There are many stakeholders ... Resident s also worry about the traffic and parking shortages that could jam streets with drunk tailgaters. As another stakeholder in this case, Temple University pays rent to use the Lincoln Financial Field that will triple from $1 million per year to $3 million starting in 2018. It is interesting to analyse the changes and developments from opera seria to these two examples. During the eighteenth century, composers wrote in a style of opera called opera seria. Opera seria had the following characteristics: They used similar plots involving a hero and usually some sort of conflict of human passions, and these operas were often based on a story from an ancient Greek or Latin Author. The opera always consisted of three acts with alternating recitatives and arias. To show the virtuosic skill of the singer, cadenzas were used within arias. The two mid eighteenth century composers, Jomelli and Traetta played a big part in the reform of Italian opera in the late 18th century by influencing the French towards opera of a more international flavour. Born in Bohemia, Gluck built a more international style of opera. He was strongly affected by the movement of the reform in the 1750s. He became court composer to the Emperor at Vienna after visits to London and studying under Samartini in Italy. After a collaboration with a poet named Raniero Calzabigi, Gluck composed two of his famous operas, `Orfeo ed Euridice in 1762 and `Alceste in 1767. Gluck s aims were to remove the unpopular characteristics of opera seria, as shown by his famous quote: To confine music to its proper function of serving the poetry for the expression and the situations of the plot He removed the overuse of da capo aria or the showing off desire of the singer; he also broke down the contrast of the recitative and aria and gave his opera more dramatic relevance than had been the case in opera seria: I believed that my greatest effort should be directed to seek in a beautiful simplicity ...and there is no accepted rule that I have not thought should be gladly sacrificed in favour of effectiveness. The family lives in a poor town by the sea. Kino is a pearl diver and lives a peaceful life. This all goes awry when a scorpion bites Coyotito, and they are unable to receive medical help because of their poor status. Despite being unable to receive treatment, they continue with their normal routines. However, the next day was anything but normal; Kino found a large pearl during his dive. He was the center of the town s attention, and he now had the attention of the doctor. Coyotito was healed, but the doctor was still treating him; since the doctor wanted to act like he healed Coyotito, just to get the pearl. Kino and Juana decided that they should sell the pearl, As they look for buyers, they were forced to elude thieves. When they left the town to sell the pearl, they were followed by trackers who wanted the pearl. Kino ambushes them to protect his family, but Coyotito is killed from the attack. The family blames all of their misfortune on the pearl, and they throw it back into the sea. The pearl has shown that greed is a powerful force. This is reinforced in many ways throughout the book. The power of greed is first shown through the doctor, who purposely misdiagnosed Coyotito. The doctor had always only wanted to help those who could pay well, he did not care about the poor families. The doctor refused to see Coyotito at first since the family would be unable to pay. Coyotito suffered until Kino found the huge pearl. Once the doctor learned that the family had the valuable pearl, he wanted to help and treat the baby. He treated the baby but also infected him on purpose just to later treat him. The doctor had hoped that his heroic medical treatment would earn him the pearl. When the doctor demanded payment, Kino refused and explains that he plans to sell the pearl. Piaget classified a stage as a period during which children s behaviours and thoughts reflected a certain type of underlying mental structure (Fialho, 2016). He believed that each stage was interconnected, in that each of the stages derives from its predecessor. The stages must be performed in the order in which Piaget specified. Piaget also claimed that the stages were universal across all cultures (Tourmen, 2016). The first stage, the Sensorimotor stage occurs from birth to two years old. During this time, children gain knowledge regarding their sensory and motor abilities. The second stage is called the preoperational stage, which occurs from the ages of two, to seven. Once children reach this stage, they can use language, symbolic thought and mental imagery (Wellman, 2011). The Concrete operational stage is the third stage of development and occurs around seven to eleven years old. The early beliefs and superstitions in Puritanical society that were practiced on an everyday basis supported the idea that the behaviors and physical conditions of the afflicted girls were the evil works of the witches, and the Devil. For example, the afflicted girls often accused their tormentor for strangling on their throats, which is relevant to choking sensation in Convulsion Hysteria. Neither of the women seemed to feel any emotional connection to Brown seeing as they all live together for the sake of the children, regardless of the obvious fact that his children do not seem to have a strong bond with him either. Years earlier Brown was involved in the death of a suspected serial rapist, which put the police department under stress as well as earned him the nickname Date Rape Dave . To further the spotlight on the LAPD and Officer Brown, a video was aired on the local television stations of Brown unnecessarily beating an individual who crashed into the back of his police vehicle. An assistant DA pressures and urges Brown to retire to try and prevent the police department from undergoing more fire and speculation from the public. Research design will basically cover the data collection process, tools of collecting such data, how the tools will be used to collect data and how to analyze the collected data into a useful form (Gosling, 2014). A problem will be raised by researcher in which he will carry out his course study to draw an answer throughcollecting data (Meyer, et al, 2012). The research process is as follows: Statement of problem is identified( Research problem); Making a plan how to start the actual research is determined; Determining research type to use and Stating methods to use. The research problem will be identified as follows: 1. Obtaining a problem you are already aware of. You may choose from social environment and any other facts that researcher knows. 2. Asking from experts and teachers. This is also another avenue of obtaining a research problem. Practitioners can be interviewed who will provide a much deeper insight to a problem. As each year passes, each person s changes the way they think and contributes a domino effect. When trees are cut down and other landmarks are used to build supermarkets or hotels, humans are taking away homes of those creatures and their food supply to survive. Humans unknowingly and knowingly, at times relocate animals to various locations and that animal must change its habitat to be able to survive, thinking it will be for the better. • 28. The Effect of Solute Concentration on Osmosis in Potatoes. Martina Oganesyan Title of investigation: The effect of solute concentration on osmosis in potatoes. Research question: What is the solute concentration of a potato? Hypothesis: Osmosis is the movement of water across the membrane from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. The osmosis continues until the solute concentrations are equal in both areas. In this experiment, we put pieces of potatoes into test tubes with sugar solutions of different concentrations and leave them there over night. It was done in order to compare the initial mass of the pieces and the ones after being placed into the solute concentration. Pieces which were placed into a hypotonic (lower) concentration of solute should increase in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From this we can conclude that measuring mass gives more logical and accurate results than measuring length. It is so because a balance measures more precisely than a human eye using a ruler, which also doesn t even take into account if there is a widening in the potato pieces. However, there are also some errors in this experiment. Firstly, the potato pieces were not exactly the same size despite the care taken to cut them. A solution to this would be to use a form cutter, which would cut exactly equal shapes. Secondly, the temperature is not exactly a constant variable as it fluctuated throughout the experiment as the test tubes were even put in a refrigerator with a much lower temperature than in the room. A solution for improving could be to place the test tubes into an electric cooler in the beginning to make the temperature stable and put potato pieces when the test tubes are in the cooler. Also, errors could be decreased by using a more precise beaker. Finally, repeating the experiment several times would allow as to take the average results and have a more adequate result. Conclusion: Thanks to this experiment, we are able to answer our research question. The solute concentration of a potato is 0.47 mol/l. Also, we can deduce that the method of measuring the mass gives more accurate results than the method of measuring the length. I say that because the correlation coefficient obtained was 0.95 which is very close to 1. However, there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hunger, to most people, is their stomachs making slow rumbling noises; sometimes a deep ache in the pit of the stomach; not knowing what it is they crave but know they want something. They say hunger is simply the body needing food. While this is correct, it s the ignorant man s answer. I was one of those ignorant people, until I experienced what it feels like to need something so bad I can t think of anything else. Hunger is not limited to someone merely wanting a midnight snack. It s the pain experienced when the stomach has nothing inside but still tries to digest; the pain someone who knows they need to eat but cannot fathom putting one bite of food into their mouth feels. Each description of characters, places, and physical aspects is written in a way that is simple to understand, but one should not be tricked by his ordinary words since there is always a greater meaning behind them. In this particular story, if one considers the period of time when the story was written, which was the nineteen thirties, is perceived how Steinbeck presents the readers with an uncommon matter that not many writers wrote about. That matter, being, the topic of women and their sexuality, which is the main focus of the story, in a time when a woman s life is dominated by men and as a consequence, many women are deprived of their personal, social and sexual fulfillment. These deprivations in a woman s life are illustrated within the descriptions and events that occur around the primary symbol in this story, the flower chrysanthemum, which as the story advances, reveals itself to symbolize Elisa s femininity, her fulfillment as a woman and even her. Elisa s masculine descriptions such as her face being lean and strong, her body being blocked and heavy, and the man s black hat that she is wearing, which in a way, they hide the feminine side of her, but in another way they also emphasize how she could be doing a different, or more challenging, job in her life than just cultivating flowers. Some Hispanic Americans made this country their home long before the founding fathers arrived and signed the Declaration of Independence (Healy 2012). The Latino population is growing rapidly. Nr 452 White Noise Barriers Research Paper Noise Barriers: White Noise NR 452 Erika Howe Chamberlain College of Nursing Professor Anthony Young White Noise in Post Partum Assessment Hospital noise is more than an annoyance. It disrupts patient sleep, creates spikes in blood pressure, and hinders wound healing and pain management. The post partum unit at North Fulton Hospital has installed a traffic light device that reinforces awareness of the need for a quieter atmosphere by monitoring the noise level and turning from yellow to red as it rises. Even with this added device, noise consistently gets the worst marks on patient surveys. Noise reduction efforts really gained momentum recently, when Medicare began basing a portion of hospital reimbursement on quality measurements including patient ratings of the quality of care (Landro, 2013). Pornography and other forms should in no way be considered as meaningful art. There is a certain underlying intelligence that cannot be separated from nude art. Once this intelligence is removed, the nude art no longer holds any meaning or significance. One of the present examples of the pattern is Cider House Rules.
