My Favorite Exhibit At Mauthausen
visiting competitors, there was a couple families who were coming to picnic on this field. The
children were running, screaming, and just having the time of their lives. I felt it was not the right
place for this type of activity. In fact in made me uncomfortable. Here I was trying to learn and
respect the thousands of lives lost and impacted by this horrific time where countless immoral,
inhumane that acts had been committed and here was the exact opposite. I do not know what those
people were thinking, or how they feel about the Holocaust, but this scene outraged a group of us. I
found the memorials and what is left of Mauthausen to be very educational. Our tour guide, Daniel

I disagree with Kluger who said, The various Shoah museums and reconstituted concentration

they spit you out. Moreover, they tell you what you ought to think, as no art or science museum
ever does. They impede the critical faculty (198). While I was given a great deal of information
about Mauthausen in all forms; from our tour guide, to videos, to pictures, and informational
plaques; I still was not told what to think. I was given a brief history and idea based on
individual and collective memories. I was then able to make my own conclusions. The
Mauthausen Website educates its visitors on all aspects of this former internment camp. From
videos to maps to archives the website offers an extensive history on Mauthausen from its
beginning in 1938 to present day. There is a section of the site where it offers eyewitness stories
from former prisoner s experiences in Mauthausen. It not only includes written stories and
timelines, but also video footage. This footage was filmed for the Mauthausen Survivors
Documentation Project. Out of the 105,00 survivors of Mauthausen, five to ten thousand are still
living today, eight hundred of which were audio interviewed, eighty were video interviewed, and
twenty are available on the website free to the public. This type of

Muslim Women s Rights Today
There are approximately one billion people worldwide that follow the Islamic way of life. Islam
is the religion of Allah, and Muhammad his last prophet. They refer to themselves as Muslims.
There are many rules for the daily life of Islam. These rules are found in the Qur an, which is
their guidebook. Muslims cannot do anything that may be considered harmful to their body, mind,
or soul, which is also known as haram. For example, eating pork is not allowed, nor is lying,
stealing, or cheating. Muslims are encouraged to do what is beneficial, this is known as halal.
Popular culture portrays Muslim women as not having many rights and privileges. Islamdoes
however give women rights which include the right to be educated, work outside of the home
and to inherit wealth. Family is considered very important in Islam and obligations to other
family members are strongly stressed. It is very common for extended family members to all
live together in the same house. Muslim women are allowed to participate in public life as long
as their modesty is not affected. They are expected to wear Hijab, or covering, so that their
sexuality will not be a source of temptation for men. Their rights, as in all cultures and
communities over time, are often violated. As the Muslim empire grew, the role of women
changed as well. Muslim men and women were originally seen as equal. The prophet s teachings
proclaimed the equality of men and women before God and in Islamic worship.

Life Of A First Generation College Student
My time spent at Cogswell Polytechnical College has been one of a great experience thus,
making me more appreciative of the financial hardships my family continues to endure in order
for me to attend such a prestigious university. There is no one in my family to have made it this
far academically as I am living the life of a first generation college student. Now, being the only
person out of my other nine siblings to identify as a college student raises a lot of concern from
the adults of the family as well as intrapersonal stress. The annual income my family lives off of
could be considered at poverty level, therefore financials are allocated properly by priority with
my education not being one of them. Just as society views eighteen to be the threshold of
adulthood, so do my parents. Consequently, I am attending college strictly on my own and this is
what makes me suitable candidate for the Dragon scholarship. Simply put, anything to financially
assist in my schooling would definitely relieve the stress of wondering if Cogswell will just one
day become too expensive for me to attend. When furthering my education, problems within my
family didn t only occur at the idea of myself attending college but the logistics of doing so. It was
this conflict of, in a way, restarting life as my hometown is Vallejo and commuting to San Jose was
just not an option. Nonetheless, San Jose was first foreign to me, but thanks to the short journey

The Godfather Is A 1972 American Crime Drama Directed By...
The Godfather is a 1972 American crime drama directed by Francis Coppola based on the 1969
novel by Mario Puzo. The film stars Marlin Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a powerful
family business of crime. The story is centred on Michael Corleone, and how he grows from a
young man wanting nothing to do with the family business to a ruthless Don who will stop at
nothing to exact his revenge. The movie grossed around 286 million dollars and is touted as one of
the most successful films of all time, and in 1990 it was selected for preservation in the United
States Film Registry. The film portrays many different character stereotypes commonly used in the
Crime genre, and this helps to allow the viewer to identify with the characters better, as they already
have an understanding of what their intentions are.
Michael Corleone is the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone and, despite his families criminal
background, he doesn t want anything to do with his father s bussiness. He can be considered the
main protagonist of the story, however he fits under the character stereotype of the Villain, in
accordance with the stock characters stated by narrative theorist Vladimir Propp. Michael is a
returned war hero and is first introduced attending his sister Connie s wedding with his girlfriend,
Kay. Much of Michael character is introduced to the viewer in this scene, primarily his disinterest in
the family business. When he is talking with Kay about Johnny Fontaine, and what his

for every new chapter there is a new beginning and a new gift. In the beginning of our chapter the
Veterans fought and died in the Revolutionary War, this war was for the foundation and basic
rights of our country. Even though this 234 years ago the veterans still fought hard for the
independence and foundation of the America we know, love, and cared for today. This is only

How to Choose a Good Roommate
Today, numerous people share rooms with their roommates everywhere. I used to live with
roommates when I studied in university and worked in big cities in China. This phenomenon is
very common currently. Many students live with other classmates in one dormitory on campus;
some workers share the room with other people in big city because of the high rent fee; the
others who living with someone else would feel safety and take care of each other. So, for these
people, it is very important to find a nice person to live together. I would choose a good roommate

New Frontier Philosophy
According to the more factor of Laurence Shames, the frontier belief that America would keep on
booming has rooted deeply in American s way of life while it still influents the American people in
the twenty first century. This could be reflected in two aspects, which are the motivation of advance
and the desire to own more. On one hand, the new frontier philosophy pushes the American people
to achieve progress in different areas, which is well embodied in the advancement of technology. In
the 1960s, the technology of railroad went through a flourishing period because people were
encouraged to explore the new area in this continent to build new residency and industry
construction there. Thus, large freight transportation was needed to

The Pros And Cons Of Specific Learning Disabilities
Specific learning disability means a disorder in one or more of the basic psychological processes
involved in understanding or in using language, spoken or written, that may manifest itself in the
imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or to do mathematical calculations,
including conditions such as perceptual disabilities, brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction,
dyslexia, and developmental aphasia. Specific learning disabilitydoes not include learning problems
that are primarily the result of visual, hearing, or motor disabilities, of mental retardation, of
emotional disturbance, or of environmental, cultural, or economic disadvantage (Special Education
Guide, 2017). Attentiondeficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is not considered to be a learning
disability. It can be determined to be a disability under the Individuals with Disabilities Education
Act (IDEA), making a student eligible to receive special education services. However, ADHD falls
under the category Other Health Impaired and not under Specific Learning Disabilities. Per IDEA s
definition, Other health impairment means having limited strength, vitality, or alertness, including

Descriptive Essay On A Walk In The Park
A Walk in the Park A ways away from a town that I call home, I found a happy place. I often find
myself walking through the park by myself. The beautiful trees, the way the yellow and red
leaves crumple under my feet every step I take. When the flowers bloom and how it s the most
spectacular sight you could ever imagine seeing, all the different colors that appear. When you
breathe in and you get this smell of purity, you feel free and alive. Sometimes I like to sit on the
old wooden bench where the bench frame is a little rusted, and I get rid of my thoughts and my
eyes search the sky. In the winter the icy breeze makes me shiver, and the cold air I take in, is like
sitting in front of an air conditioner and breathingin. Some mornings the sunbeams across the sky,
which is not quite blue yet, but the sun has almost fully risen. When the wind blows, it grazes
over the blades of grass. Some days I just stand and take a deep breath in and I can taste the
spring. When summer comes around, and the bees are buzzing, and the hot sun beats on the
back of my neck, I lay on the soft grass and listen, to the birds chirping a beautiful song, and the
kids playing in the park. The sky is the bluest view in sight. Walking through the trail full of mud
and leaves always made me think about my life. It was always there when I needed to walk and
get things off my mind. Looking around watching the leaves fall off tree after tree flying like
butterflies, all different colors. When they stopped, they immediately died and they were not
coming back alive again. Piled leaves filled up under trees and children ran and jumped on them
like they were pillows. These trees tripled the height of humans with numerous branches holding
hundreds of leaves. While walking the river flows and it is such a beautiful view with the sun
shining right off of it. The ducks and little birds chirping and floating through the smooth water
puts a joy to my face. I found a rest area with a bench and by it was a fountain. The ripple of
water and the singing that the birds formed made it peaceful to sit there and study the fountain. Just
appreciating the little things in life and realizing what all I have and have overcome is what the
park helps me

the other hand, pay nothing to use the roads. Woods goes on to describe examples of how drivers
get charged for using the roads in other parts of the world and how it helps to reduce congestion
and encourage the use of public transit. Woods states that in Vancouver, the roads have been free
since the beginning of time. Consequentially, the public does not really comprehend the concept of

True Love In Anne Bradstreet s To My Dear And Loving Husband
Anne Bradstreet s poem To My Dear and Loving Husband, the magnificent writer strongly uses
vocabulary, tone, figurative language and imagery to show that the only way true love can be
repaid is by that in heaven. In order to better understand the reasoning behind such writing, it would
benefit to know delicate information on the writer. Anne Bradstreet was born Anne Dudley in 1612
in Northampton shire, England to a nonconformist former soldier of Queen Elizabeth, Thomas
Dudley, who managed the affairs of the Earl of Lincoln. Anne had been well tutored in literature
and history in Greek, Latin, French, Hebrew, as well as English. She married Simon Bradstreet, a
graduate of Cambridge University, at the age of 16. Two years later, Bradstreet, along with her
husband and parents, immigrated to America with the John Winthrop Puritan group, and the
family settled in Ipswich, Massachusetts. There Bradstreet and her husband raised eight children,
and she became one of the first poets to write English verse in the American colonies. It was
during this time that Bradstreet penned many of the poems that would be taken to England by
her brother in law. (Stanford 397) The mother of 8 children and a dynamic speaker, Hutchinson
held prayer meetings where women debated religious and ethical ideas. Her belief that the Holy
Spirit dwells within a justified person and so is not based on the good works necessary for
admission to the church was considered heretical. Bradstreet was concerned with the issues of sin
and redemption, physical and emotional frailty, death and immortality. (Svendsen 64) Much of her
work indicates that she had a difficult time resolving the conflict she experienced between the
pleasures of sensory and familial experience and the promises of heaven. As a Puritan, she
struggled to subdue her attachment to the world, but as a woman she sometimes felt more strongly
connected to her husband, children, and community than to God. (Reid 544) Simon Bradstreet s
(Anne s husband) responsibilities as a magistrate of the colony frequently took him away from
home, and he was very much missed by his wife. Bradstreet s love poems make it clear that she
was deeply attached to her husband. Marriagewas important

What Real Courage Looks Like in To Kill A Mockingbird by...
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, This essay is going to prove how Atticus and
Mrs. Dubose both show their own version of moral courage and how it has influenced others in
this novel. The first point is that Atticus shows moral courage by fighting for what he believes in,
no matter the consequence or the result. The second point is how Mrs. Dubose shows a specific
meaning of moral courageby overcoming a tough physical and mental obstacle.
First of all, what is moral courage? Moral courage, in Atticus s case, is fighting for what you
believe in no matter what the consequences or result will be. At their house, Scout had asked
Atticus why he had taken up the Tom Robinson case, Atticus replied with For a number of reasons,
said Atticus. The main one is, if I didn t I couldn t hold up my head in town, I couldn t represent
this county in the legislature, I couldn t even tell you or Jem not to do something again. (Pgs. 75
76) In this quote, Atticus was appointed to be Tom Robinson s lawyer, even though Atticus knows
that he won t win the case, and understands that he is licked before he even begins. He knows that
Tom is innocent and that he must fight for him, because no one else will. This makes Scout
question Atticus s decision on defending a Negro, not understanding that only Atticus could have
taken that case. This quote proves the thesis because Atticus shows his own special type of moral
courage by standing up to the communities racism, knowing that

Now, seeing as though the measurable aspect of SMART has been expressed, let us move to its
next part. When speaking about the attainability of the DIY Project, in general, the goals are
very attainable: there already exist similar venues. So, without absolute perfection, this idea is
attainable. We simply invite musicians to play, we invite people to listen, and we invite people
to create art. Again, this is attainable. However, there is one aspect of the DIY Project that may
be unattainable: a alcohol/drug free venue. Unfortunately, some people enjoy sneaking such
substances into venues. For this reason, we will publically exhibit our disdain for drugs and
alcohol in the venue: it ruins the experience for too many people (speaking from prior
knowledge). Also, there must be staff that watches for drug and alcohol usage. This, in the end,
may only allow for substance usage to become lower than most venues. In sum, then, the DIY
Project may not be able to rid itself of all drugs and alcohol, but it can minimize the presence of

Three Characteristics Of The Earth, Moon, And Sun
The Earth, Moon, and Sun are three of the most unique and incredible celestial bodies in the entire
universe. Each serves a distinct purpose and has remarkable characteristics that allow them to work
and coincide with one another in such a complex way. All three bodies interact and work together to
create an organized and continuous system that scientists continue to research and study. There are
various processes and techniques the Earth, Moon, and Sunpossess that help to identify and
characterise each one as well as the interactions between them. The interactions between the Earth,
Moon, and Sun manage the ocean s currents and tides, climate, weather, and seasons.
The Sun, a star, is hot ball of glowing gases at the center of our solar system (nasa.gov/sun). It s
heat and energy sustain the life we have on Earth. Without it, we would not be able to survive. The
Sun warms the entire planet, reaching the Earth s surface, oceans, and atmosphere. The heat and
energy from the Sun is what essentially drives the weather and climates (windows2universe.org).
The orientation of the Earth to the Sun is what creates the Earth s seasons. Depending on what
hemisphere you reside in, the season and weather patterns vary. If the hemisphere you live in is
pointed towards the Sun, it is summer. If it is directed away from the Sun, it is winter. This is due
to the tilt of Earth s axis.
However, the Sun not only impacts Earth, but the other planets and the rest of our solar system as

The Importance Of Teamwork And Its Advantages Essay
SECTION 1
Definition of teamwork and its advantages and disadvantages
Teamwork consists of a group of people coming together to form a team, to work together to
achieve the goals that have been set out. In order for a team to reach their objectives and be
successful as a team they must find out what each team members role is in the team. They must set
up team rules on how they will work together, how they will distribute information and how they
will resolve any team conflict if any arises. Team members should not discuss personal interests as
it is irrelevant to the contributions of team goals. Each member should respect each other.
Advantages;
Each member of the team can learn something from each other.
The sharing of information and the communication in the team can improve
Team members who are willing to share their ideas make it a better experience for the team and it
also makes it a lot easier for the shyer ones in the group to contribute
The team environment can turn into a supportive one
Every team member has a different style and this can lead to finding new approaches to tasks
Disadvantages;
Some team members may have no experience of working in a team
If disagreements develop conflict may arise

Closing The Achievement Gap
Critical Issue 16 is, will school improvement efforts alone narrow the racial/ethnic achievement
gap. Katie Haycock believes in adequate funding and that high standards will improve academic
achievement (Paciorek). She thinks the only way to really close the gap is to fix the
underperforming schools. Richard Rothstein believes the achievement gap will be narrowed when
the outside groups collaborate, not just those functioning within the school. He wants to bring
more people to the table to improve academic achievement (Paciorek). I found an article called

One of the points that is stated in our book is, student expectations must be raised. When a student
is fighting one of those barriers that McKinstry stated, it will be more difficult on those students to

often lack specialized skills to address severe behavior and learning challenges and that the time to
handle those issues doesn t exist; which will result in the students having little to no help. I
personally agree with Richard Rothstein, the achievement gap cannot be closed without the
collaboration of outside groups. Teachers cannot close the achievement gap on their own, if they
could then I think the achievement gap would be closed by now. So, being that the achievement
gap is not closed, it shows that teachers being high quality educators is not the

Summary Of Breaking The Bargain By Donald Savoie
As the years pass us by time is not the only element that changes. The governmental system is
affected by many phenomena, such as war, policy, law and power. The book written by Donald J.
Savoie scrutinizes the overall structure of the public service government. He heavily examines the
foundations of governmentto reconfiguring the organization as a whole. Breaking the Bargain was
a very impressionable book; it draws on the alterations the occurred by using charts/tables, published
/unpublished governmental documents and interviews with 45 present and former government
officials for detailed first hand perspectives on the system.
The book actively touches on the Golden Era , a traditional governing method in comparison to
today s method. It gives a different perspective on government and it s old aspects. Similarly,
Savoie recognizes that the public service has lost its way and it needs to change in order to
generate progress. I believe that this is the main idea that he s portraying through, Breaking the

In the book is it described that the bargain made by public servants and politicians stipulated from

Atmosphere In Fallen Angels
Atmosphere is essential to help bring energy to a story. Atmosphere can change throughout the
novel, but in Fallen Angels it can be broken down into three sections. The first section consists of
the uncertain state of war that the squad finds themselves in. This is shown by the opinions among
the soldiers about what it will be like when they actually go to war. The first section also includes
the shock of how different the real war is then what it is portrayed as. Peewee summed it up by
saying, I didn t think they was going to have no real fighting in this here war. (pg.23) the first
section of this book is also very thrilling and suspenseful, after Jenkins death the squad realizes that
their lives are about to get way worse than they would ve imagined. Tense is a word that... Show

The main part of the novel is set in the jungle of Vietnam which is very rainy and wet. Even
though this is the main setting Perry often talks about his home back in Harlem. Perry used to
live in the slums, which were neglected and poverty stricken as he says on page 14, How was I
going to get clothes for Kenny so he would stay in school? Mama had said that she d see to it
that Kenny stayed in school if I sent the money for clothes for him. (pg.14) So clearly Richie s
mom was not bringing in much money so Richie had to provide for the family. In Vietnam it
rained almost everyday and was mucky and grimy. The squad was placed in Chu Lai which was
proficient and very intensive. At Chu Lai they went out on patrols, and on one of them Jenkins
lost his life giving the rest of the people in the squad their first look at death. Then they had to
move to Tam Ky, which was not as proficient and was less state of the art. At Tam Ky, they are
surrounded by the Vietnamese which makes patrolling at night so much more difficult and
dangerous. At Tam Ky during a mission Richie becomes injured and his profile is found, then he is

Why Should Kids Get Summer Break
Should Your Child Get A Summer Break? Do you think kids should have summer break?
Summer break gives families more time to make memories, it releases stress off of the students
and teachers, it also gives more time for events to be made. Summer break can help out on a lot.
No kids would want to stay in a hot classroom all year round when they could be outside enjoying
the summerdays.
The first reason why kids should have summer break is because summers are made for making
memories. According to Gary Huggins, kids need to enjoy time and vacation with their families.
Vacation is freedom for everyone, including the students and teachers. Furthermore, Huggins
believes that you can tie in what you ve learned over the year with memories you re making in the
summer (Huggins). Vacations are more fun when you have all the time to make memories. Vacation
is best during the summer, everyone enjoys hot summer days and spending time with their friends

According to Kelley Holland, there is more time for sports and other events in the summer than
during the school year. Too many events are scheduled during the summer time rather than the
school year. Most kids play sports, during school, they re constantly busy with games, their
weekends involve doing what their family or coaches have planned. Some kids practice a single
sport, which means they could play all year round (Holland). Most families would rather be able
to have time to go places with their kids, not have to get it all done in a certain amount of time.
During the school year, kids usually have a bedtime or homework, if your family or sport coach
has something planned, there might not be time for other things (Holland). Birthday parties,
reunions, weddings, sport events, etc. can be made easier in the summer instead of kids and
teachers having to take off work time for those

companies. Hold all these in hand, that SGI got some competitive advantage in the market. For the
future, SGI still have a long way to go if it wants to be surviving in this market. First, We
recommend that SGI should maintain its competitive advantage by continue its traditional way to
focus on meeting customer needs, try to provide unique solutions for the toughest technology and
business problems, and try to be the first to market with new component technology. Secondly,
SGI should try to create more products and services by using its unique and valuable skills like
server design and cooling technology in order to gain more customers and competitive advantages.
Finally, try to make some cooperation with its competitors. There are no everlasting friends or

The Persistence of Imperialism Essay
The Persistence of Imperialism
Following World War II, the concrete nature of imperialism, or the subjection of people or groups
based on a social, economical, or racial hierarchy, was seemingly in decline. For instance, India and
Pakistan had both gained their independence from Britain in 1947 (p.761), and the French, though
unwillingly, gave up their colonies in Vietnam (p.754), but with the development of the Cold War
there became a need to ideologically separate the free First World , which was made up of western
Europe and the United States, from the communist Second World , which was primarily made up
by the Soviet Union. This separation unintentionally formed yet another hierarchy, and further
perpetuated imperialistic notions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time (1950 1968) the United States was undergoing an anticommunist movement
headed by Wisconsin Senator, Joseph McCarthy (Tignor et al., p.770). One of the purposes of this
movement was to inhibit the diffusion of communism to former colonial states such as south
Vietnam, and was the primary reason the U.S. invaded Vietnam. Though the implicit imperial
nature of the invasion eluded U.S. President Johnson, it was quite evident among the countries
citizens and civil rights leaders, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who noted this repetitious trend
in American values for the past century. In his Beyond Vietnam meeting at Riverside Church , New
York, Dr. King took stance that the domestic problems the U.S. was facing was symptomatic of a
nature of persistent suppression of other ideas, races, and cultures. He felt that if the U.S.
government could overcome these maladies, that the civil rights movement, which was in direct
opposition domestic racial imperialism, and the threat of further foreign dispute could be
considered a concern of the past. In this, Dr. King speaks out against the imperialistic nature of
suppression, in favor of peaceful acceptance. The United States and other former colonizers were
not the only culprits in perpetuating imperialistic tendencies during this Cold War dichotomous
context. The newly

Theories on the Effects of Acupuncture on the Nervous System
Theories on the Effects of Acupuncture on the Nervous System
Despite the growing evidence that many ailments respond positively to acupuncture, much of the
Western World remains incredulous as to its healing abilities. The centuries old Chinese practice of
acupuncture, rooted in non scientific and non Western thought and medicine, has burgeoned during
the late twentieth century trend towards alternative medicines. Numerous clients readily attest to
the positive effects of acupuncture in treating such conditions as postoperative pain, asthma, and
drug addiction. Even so, many people are skeptical that placing hair thin needles into one s skin in

Qi is the fundamental concept behind the Chinese and Eastern justification for the function of
acupuncture. Chinese texts describe channels of energy called meridians that flow throughout
the body in regular patterns, a system just like the circulatory system or the nervous system.
Flowing through these meridians is Qi, vital life energy. Disease, defined as the imbalance in the
flow of Qi, can result from blockage of the meridians or a deficiency of energy. Disharmony of
Qi will affect spiritual, emotional, mental, and the physical aspects of the body. The acupuncturist
works to restore your Qi to a natural and healthy level of circulation (7). Needles are used to
puncture the meridians where they come close to the surface of the skin in order to unblock or
nudge the Qi to flow back into its proper channels, thus restoring its balance in the body.
During the past few decades, the practice of acupuncture has come under the intense scrutiny of the
Western nations (primarily the United States, England, and Europe), and there has been a push to
formulate a scientific explanation for the consequences of this mystical phenomenon on the body.
Although no singular theory has been successful in entirely proving or discovering the intrinsic
significance of acupuncture on the nervous system, it is generally accepted that the effects of
acupuncture on the body involves the release of opioid peptides in the body.
The opioid peptides are a comprised of

life and have become virtually the second skin or the second nature for the present generations.
Contemporary nursing practice must employ technological advances into everyday client oriented
nursing process with the ultimate goal of improving the quality and safety of holistic and
humanistic client care. In this paper I will explore the role of nurses in the process of
implementation of technology into the client centered care, an influence the present day technology
exerts on the nursing process by the example of a role it plays in medication administration, benefits
and possible drawbacks the modern technology brings into the professional nursing, discuss
decisive steps the practical nursing has to take to keep pace with modern dynamics of the new
technological era. The introduction of computer technologies not only dramatically changed the
everyday life of humanity, but it has been constantly shaping our present since the invention of the
first computing machine and the development of the first informatics technologies. I also believe
that the modern technology has revolutionized the way of how the nursing care is delivered today
to the clients and continue to shape the nursing process with steady and constant substantial
infusions of new materials, techniques and approaches to the everyday nursing practice. For the

Power is defined as the ability to do or act. Oppression is the exercising of power in a cruel or

Coercion is the force of power to bonds with others in power. These terms relate to the study of

The road to fair and equal child labor laws was definitely not an easy one, nor was it a quick one.

In 322 BC Aristotle was forced to flee Athens with his family when the political leadership reacted
against the Macedonians again and his previously published works supporting Macedonian rule left
him a target. He passed on his Lyceum to Theophrastus and died later that year in Chalcis, near his
hometown.
It is during this period in Athens from 335 to 323 BC when Aristotle is believed to have composed
many of his works. Aristotle wrote many dialogues, only fragments of which survived. The works
that have survived are in treatise form and were not, for the most part, intended for widespread
publication, as they are generally thought to be lecture aids for his students. His most important
treatises include Physics, Metaphysics, Nicomachean Ethics, Politics, De Anima (On the Soul) and
Poetics.
Aristotle not only studied almost every subject possible at the time, but made significant
contributions to most of them. In physical science, Aristotle studied anatomy, astronomy,
embryology, geography, geology, meteorology, physics and zoology. In philosophy, he wrote on
aesthetics, ethics, government, metaphysics, politics, economics, psychology, rhetoric and
theology. He also studied education, foreign customs, literature and poetry. His combined works
constitute a virtual encyclopedia of Greek knowledge. It has been suggested that Aristotle was
probably the last person to know everything there was to be known in his own time.

that we were peers hoping to maintain long term relationship was also a reason. However, it was

Charlemagne And Einhard s Life Of Charlemagne
Charlemagne, translates into English as Charles the Great, was the King of the Franks, who

that Charlemagne was instrumental in the spread of culture and expressions to all edges of his
kingdom. By nearly being partners with the Papacy, he spread the Christian message to almost all
of Europe. As a consequence of his commitments in different fields, his rule was appropriately

Charlemagne and was a prominent member of the Royal court and was conscious to the

of the story due to the great respect and admiration he had for Charlemagne. Einhard begins his
version with somewhat giving his reason of why he is writing the biography. He says that he has
taken it upon himself to narrate the public and private life of Charlemagne also calling him his
foster father referring to the way Charlemagne treated students and courtiers similarly to his own

also listing his ancestors because he wanted to give background of the type of kingdom
Charlemagne came into. Along with a list of Charlemagne s military campaigns, following with
other details of his life till his death.

River Valley Civilization
The Yellow River Valley Civilization is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. It is also the
main source of Chinese civilization. The Yellow River is not just a river, the name stands for
the origins of their culture and civilization. It has been referred to as the Mother River to the
Chinese and the Cradle of Chinese Civilization. The River was the birth place of ancient
civilizations in the Xia and Shang eras from 2100 1600 BC and 1600 1046 BC. The religions of the
Chinese, were the most prosperous in early Chinese history. The people regarded yellow as a

One Flew Over Cuckoo
One flew over the cuckoo s nest Director: Milos Forman Cast : jack Nicholson, Brad Dourif, Will
Sampson, Dani Devito, Louise Fletsher... Synopsis: When Randle Patrick McMurphy (Jack
Nicholson) gets transferred for evaluation from a prison farm to a mental institution, he assumes it
will be a less restrictive environment. But the martinet Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) runs the
psychiatric ward with an iron fist, keeping her patients cowed through abuse, medication and
sessions of electroconvulsive therapy. The battle of wills between the rebellious McMurphy and
the inflexible Ratched soon affects all the ward s patients. Review: This movie is one of the best
comic movies I had ever watched because even though its comedy but it also holds a lot of
meanings of life between the lines of the script of that movie first of all the main plot of the movie
which is deciding to stay at the mental institution instead of the prison thinking that it is easier, then
we discover that the mental institution is way more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Career Goals For A Professional Career Goal
There must to be sacrifice and dedication on the road to obtaining a degree. That sacrifice and
dedication doubles when the student is a middle aged adult with a full time job and other
financial obligations. It is not easy juggling a full time job and being a full time student. The art
of time management is a valuable tool to master and will definitely help with balancing everything
and getting all tasks completed. Professional Career Statement Creating a professional career goal
statement can significantly impact a resume. According to (Starzee, 2012) a professional career
goal statement allows the candidate an opportunity to provide the employer a synopsis of the
value they intend to bring to the organization. Below is a professional goal statement for a Client
Relationship Professional: Engaging Client Relations Manager adept at evolving complex client
proposals. Expertly skilled in various business operations including client billing conflict resolution
and the implementation of effective business policies and procedures. Proficient in developing and
nurturing productive client relationships. The rationale for the above professional career goal
statement is that it shows that the professional is more than capable of performing the duties and
also has the highest level of personal skill to interact with clients. In Depth Analysis The jobs that
I will be applying for are managing others on the front lines of providing customer service. Jobs

Returning Ex-Convicts Exiled Into Our Society. Imagine
Returning Ex Convicts exiled into our Society Imagine having a next door neighbor is an ex
convict; which is defined as a former inmate in prison (ex con). According to Bonita Veysey, the
editor of How Offenders Transform their lives This year, over 600,000 people will be released
from prison, and many millions will be returning to their communities from shorter stints in jails
(2). With this statement, would you feel comfortable continuing to live in your neighborhood? Or
immediately pack up your family and move else where. Ex convicts have many challenges when
released from prisonwhich include: how society views them, finding employment, and how to
overcome their past.
Suppose ones decided to pack up and leave your neighbor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If the same character was black had tattoos on his face and sagging pants, the audience more be
much more inclined to see that person get caught and go to prison. These well organized white
collar criminals receive praise for being intelligent and manipulating the law. These aesthetically
pleasing criminals get a pat on the back and are seen as someone who made a mistake and needs a
second chance. Race plays a role on which side the convict is labeled as. When one is black they
tend to be more associated with the gangs and street violence vs. the white men who are more
likely to commit corporation criminals. Environment also plays a role in the race of the criminals
and also the act of the criminal. African American men tend to grow up on the street ; so then they
get in truble doing activities that relate to the street. White men tend to usually have a job are a
company which then they take advance of the corporation. Overall most Americans would agree
that ex convicts do not have a positive outlook and you are not expected to accept them back into
everyday life.
When criminals are finally released from the government s cage, they have to step back into the
lion s den of this cruel world. The gates were finally open, as I stepped back on solid ground I felt a
sense of relief mixed with fear (Rodriquez). In an interview with Jeffrey

The children were running, screaming, and just having the time of their lives. I felt it was not the right place for this type of activity. In fact in made me uncomfortable. Here I was trying to learn and respect the thousands of lives lost and impacted by this horrific time where countless immoral, inhumane that acts had been committed and here was the exact opposite. I do not know what those people were thinking, or how they feel about the Holocaust, but this scene outraged a group of us. They impede the critical faculty (198). While I was given a great deal of information about Mauthausen in all forms; from our tour guide, to videos, to pictures, and informational plaques; I still was not told what to think. I was given a brief history and idea based on individual and collective memories. I was then able to make my own conclusions. The Mauthausen Website educates its visitors on all aspects of this former internment camp. From videos to maps to archives the website offers an extensive history on Mauthausen from its beginning in 1938 to present day. There is a section of the site where it offers eyewitness stories from former prisoner s experiences in Mauthausen. It not only includes written stories and timelines, but also video footage. This footage was filmed for the Mauthausen Survivors Documentation Project. • 3. Muslim Women s Rights Today There are approximately one billion people worldwide that follow the Islamic way of life. Islam is the religion of Allah, and Muhammad his last prophet. They refer to themselves as Muslims. There are many rules for the daily life of Islam. These rules are found in the Qur an, which is their guidebook. Muslims cannot do anything that may be considered harmful to their body, mind, or soul, which is also known as haram. For example, eating pork is not allowed, nor is lying, stealing, or cheating. Muslims are encouraged to do what is beneficial, this is known as halal. Popular culture portrays Muslim women as not having many rights and privileges. Islamdoes however give women rights which include the right to be educated, work outside of the home and to inherit wealth. Family is considered very important in Islam and obligations to other family members are strongly stressed. It is very common for extended family members to all live together in the same house. Muslim women are allowed to participate in public life as long as their modesty is not affected. They are expected to wear Hijab, or covering, so that their sexuality will not be a source of temptation for men. Their rights, as in all cultures and communities over time, are often violated. As the Muslim empire grew, the role of women changed as well. Muslim men and women were originally seen as equal. The prophet s teachings proclaimed the equality of men and women before God and in Islamic worship. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Life Of A First Generation College Student My time spent at Cogswell Polytechnical College has been one of a great experience thus, making me more appreciative of the financial hardships my family continues to endure in order for me to attend such a prestigious university. There is no one in my family to have made it this far academically as I am living the life of a first generation college student. Now, being the only person out of my other nine siblings to identify as a college student raises a lot of concern from the adults of the family as well as intrapersonal stress. The annual income my family lives off of could be considered at poverty level, therefore financials are allocated properly by priority with my education not being one of them. Just as society views eighteen to be the threshold of adulthood, so do my parents. Consequently, I am attending college strictly on my own and this is what makes me suitable candidate for the Dragon scholarship. Simply put, anything to financially assist in my schooling would definitely relieve the stress of wondering if Cogswell will just one day become too expensive for me to attend. When furthering my education, problems within my family didn t only occur at the idea of myself attending college but the logistics of doing so. It was this conflict of, in a way, restarting life as my hometown is Vallejo and commuting to San Jose was just not an option. The film stars Marlin Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a powerful family business of crime. The story is centred on Michael Corleone, and how he grows from a young man wanting nothing to do with the family business to a ruthless Don who will stop at nothing to exact his revenge. The movie grossed around 286 million dollars and is touted as one of the most successful films of all time, and in 1990 it was selected for preservation in the United States Film Registry. The film portrays many different character stereotypes commonly used in the Crime genre, and this helps to allow the viewer to identify with the characters better, as they already have an understanding of what their intentions are. Michael Corleone is the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone and, despite his families criminal background, he doesn t want anything to do with his father s bussiness. He can be considered the main protagonist of the story, however he fits under the character stereotype of the Villain, in accordance with the stock characters stated by narrative theorist Vladimir Propp. Michael is a returned war hero and is first introduced attending his sister Connie s wedding with his girlfriend, Kay. Much of Michael character is introduced to the viewer in this scene, primarily his disinterest in the family business. When he is talking with Kay about Johnny Fontaine, and what his ... • 14. Descriptive Essay On A Walk In The Park A Walk in the Park A ways away from a town that I call home, I found a happy place. I often find myself walking through the park by myself. The beautiful trees, the way the yellow and red leaves crumple under my feet every step I take. When the flowers bloom and how it s the most spectacular sight you could ever imagine seeing, all the different colors that appear. When you breathe in and you get this smell of purity, you feel free and alive. Sometimes I like to sit on the old wooden bench where the bench frame is a little rusted, and I get rid of my thoughts and my eyes search the sky. In the winter the icy breeze makes me shiver, and the cold air I take in, is like sitting in front of an air conditioner and breathingin. Some mornings the sunbeams across the sky, which is not quite blue yet, but the sun has almost fully risen. When the wind blows, it grazes over the blades of grass. Some days I just stand and take a deep breath in and I can taste the spring. When summer comes around, and the bees are buzzing, and the hot sun beats on the back of my neck, I lay on the soft grass and listen, to the birds chirping a beautiful song, and the kids playing in the park. The sky is the bluest view in sight. Walking through the trail full of mud and leaves always made me think about my life. It was always there when I needed to walk and get things off my mind. Looking around watching the leaves fall off tree after tree flying like butterflies, all different colors. When they stopped, they immediately died and they were not coming back alive again. Piled leaves filled up under trees and children ran and jumped on them like they were pillows. These trees tripled the height of humans with numerous branches holding hundreds of leaves. While walking the river flows and it is such a beautiful view with the sun shining right off of it. The ducks and little birds chirping and floating through the smooth water puts a joy to my face. I found a rest area with a bench and by it was a fountain. The ripple of water and the singing that the birds formed made it peaceful to sit there and study the fountain. • 16. True Love In Anne Bradstreet s To My Dear And Loving Husband Anne Bradstreet s poem To My Dear and Loving Husband, the magnificent writer strongly uses vocabulary, tone, figurative language and imagery to show that the only way true love can be repaid is by that in heaven. In order to better understand the reasoning behind such writing, it would benefit to know delicate information on the writer. Anne Bradstreet was born Anne Dudley in 1612 in Northampton shire, England to a nonconformist former soldier of Queen Elizabeth, Thomas Dudley, who managed the affairs of the Earl of Lincoln. Anne had been well tutored in literature and history in Greek, Latin, French, Hebrew, as well as English. She married Simon Bradstreet, a graduate of Cambridge University, at the age of 16. Two years later, Bradstreet, along with her husband and parents, immigrated to America with the John Winthrop Puritan group, and the family settled in Ipswich, Massachusetts. There Bradstreet and her husband raised eight children, and she became one of the first poets to write English verse in the American colonies. It was during this time that Bradstreet penned many of the poems that would be taken to England by her brother in law. (Stanford 397) The mother of 8 children and a dynamic speaker, Hutchinson held prayer meetings where women debated religious and ethical ideas. Her belief that the Holy Spirit dwells within a justified person and so is not based on the good works necessary for admission to the church was considered heretical. Bradstreet was concerned with the issues of sin and redemption, physical and emotional frailty, death and immortality. (Svendsen 64) Much of her work indicates that she had a difficult time resolving the conflict she experienced between the pleasures of sensory and familial experience and the promises of heaven. As a Puritan, she struggled to subdue her attachment to the world, but as a woman she sometimes felt more strongly connected to her husband, children, and community than to God. (Reid 544) Simon Bradstreet s (Anne s husband) responsibilities as a magistrate of the colony frequently took him away from home, and he was very much missed by his wife. Bradstreet s love poems make it clear that she was deeply attached to her husband. Marriagewas important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. What Real Courage Looks Like in To Kill A Mockingbird by... In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, This essay is going to prove how Atticus and Mrs. Dubose both show their own version of moral courage and how it has influenced others in this novel. The first point is that Atticus shows moral courage by fighting for what he believes in, no matter the consequence or the result. The second point is how Mrs. Dubose shows a specific meaning of moral courageby overcoming a tough physical and mental obstacle. First of all, what is moral courage? Moral courage, in Atticus s case, is fighting for what you believe in no matter what the consequences or result will be. At their house, Scout had asked Atticus why he had taken up the Tom Robinson case, Atticus replied with For a number of reasons, said Atticus. The main one is, if I didn t I couldn t hold up my head in town, I couldn t represent this county in the legislature, I couldn t even tell you or Jem not to do something again. (Pgs. 75 76) In this quote, Atticus was appointed to be Tom Robinson s lawyer, even though Atticus knows that he won t win the case, and understands that he is licked before he even begins. He knows that Tom is innocent and that he must fight for him, because no one else will. This makes Scout question Atticus s decision on defending a Negro, not understanding that only Atticus could have taken that case. This quote proves the thesis because Atticus shows his own special type of moral courage by standing up to the communities racism, knowing that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We simply invite musicians to play, we invite people to listen, and we invite people to create art. Again, this is attainable. However, there is one aspect of the DIY Project that may be unattainable: a alcohol/drug free venue. Unfortunately, some people enjoy sneaking such substances into venues. For this reason, we will publically exhibit our disdain for drugs and alcohol in the venue: it ruins the experience for too many people (speaking from prior knowledge). Also, there must be staff that watches for drug and alcohol usage. This, in the end, may only allow for substance usage to become lower than most venues. Breaking the Bargain was a very impressionable book; it draws on the alterations the occurred by using charts/tables, published /unpublished governmental documents and interviews with 45 present and former government officials for detailed first hand perspectives on the system. The book actively touches on the Golden Era , a traditional governing method in comparison to today s method. It gives a different perspective on government and it s old aspects. Similarly, Savoie recognizes that the public service has lost its way and it needs to change in order to generate progress. I believe that this is the main idea that he s portraying through, Breaking the Bargain. In the effort to improve our system over these decades we have lost the aspect that makes government work. An entity that slips from the establishment is that the public service cannot be independent as well as dependent toward elected officials. In the book is it described that the bargain made by public servants and politicians stipulated from the absence of formal rules. Public servants exchanged some political rights for permanency and politicians traded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summer break gives families more time to make memories, it releases stress off of the students and teachers, it also gives more time for events to be made. Summer break can help out on a lot. No kids would want to stay in a hot classroom all year round when they could be outside enjoying the summerdays. • 28. The Persistence of Imperialism Essay The Persistence of Imperialism Following World War II, the concrete nature of imperialism, or the subjection of people or groups based on a social, economical, or racial hierarchy, was seemingly in decline. For instance, India and Pakistan had both gained their independence from Britain in 1947 (p.761), and the French, though unwillingly, gave up their colonies in Vietnam (p.754), but with the development of the Cold War there became a need to ideologically separate the free First World , which was made up of western Europe and the United States, from the communist Second World , which was primarily made up by the Soviet Union. This separation unintentionally formed yet another hierarchy, and further perpetuated imperialistic notions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During this time (1950 1968) the United States was undergoing an anticommunist movement headed by Wisconsin Senator, Joseph McCarthy (Tignor et al., p.770). One of the purposes of this movement was to inhibit the diffusion of communism to former colonial states such as south Vietnam, and was the primary reason the U.S. invaded Vietnam. Though the implicit imperial nature of the invasion eluded U.S. President Johnson, it was quite evident among the countries citizens and civil rights leaders, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who noted this repetitious trend in American values for the past century. In his Beyond Vietnam meeting at Riverside Church , New York, Dr. King took stance that the domestic problems the U.S. was facing was symptomatic of a nature of persistent suppression of other ideas, races, and cultures. He felt that if the U.S. government could overcome these maladies, that the civil rights movement, which was in direct opposition domestic racial imperialism, and the threat of further foreign dispute could be considered a concern of the past. In this, Dr. King speaks out against the imperialistic nature of suppression, in favor of peaceful acceptance. The United States and other former colonizers were not the only culprits in perpetuating imperialistic tendencies during this Cold War dichotomous context. The newly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Qi is the fundamental concept behind the Chinese and Eastern justification for the function of acupuncture. Chinese texts describe channels of energy called meridians that flow throughout the body in regular patterns, a system just like the circulatory system or the nervous system. Flowing through these meridians is Qi, vital life energy. Disease, defined as the imbalance in the flow of Qi, can result from blockage of the meridians or a deficiency of energy. Disharmony of Qi will affect spiritual, emotional, mental, and the physical aspects of the body. The acupuncturist works to restore your Qi to a natural and healthy level of circulation (7). Needles are used to puncture the meridians where they come close to the surface of the skin in order to unblock or nudge the Qi to flow back into its proper channels, thus restoring its balance in the body. During the past few decades, the practice of acupuncture has come under the intense scrutiny of the Western nations (primarily the United States, England, and Europe), and there has been a push to formulate a scientific explanation for the consequences of this mystical phenomenon on the body. Although no singular theory has been successful in entirely proving or discovering the intrinsic significance of acupuncture on the nervous system, it is generally accepted that the effects of acupuncture on the body involves the release of opioid peptides in the body.
