INSTITUTION MIGHT
DISTRIBUTE YOUR MUSIC
MAGAZINE?

Media Institutions
A media institution is a company or organisation that is
in charge of producing, distribution and marketing
different media products. Examples of Media Institutions
include Bauer Media, Time Inc. and Future PLC.
The style model that I have used throughout my
coursework is Q Magazine, which is distributed by Bauer
Media, which is a division of the Bauer Media Group
who are a privately owned publishing group. The group
is worldwide and offers over 300 magazines in 15
different countries. The Bauer Media Group was
founded in 1875 and has its headquarters in Germany
and the Bauer Media headquarters are located in
Australia.
Media Distributers
Another big magazine distributing is Time Inc.
UK (formerly known as IPC Media). Time ink
was a publishing industry in the mid-1950s and
was dominated by a handful of companies such
as the Associated Newspapers (founded in
1890). In 2014 IPC Media formerly became Time
Inc. UK. Time Inc. is the distributer of magazines
such as Marie Claire, Woman’s Weekly and
NME.
My Chosen Distributer
I would like Bauer Media to distribute my magazine
because they don’t have a specific magazine for
Indie Pop but more generalised genres of music
magazines that heavily feature rock and pop. I also
believe that because they are worldwide and
Europe’s largest publishing group my magazine
would be distributed to a wider audience opposed to
a smaller scale market like some independent
magazines. I feel there is a gap in the industry for an
Indie Pop magazine because most music
magazines are for rock or pop music or an attempt
of covering all music genres.
My Chosen Distributer
I chose Bauer Media because they would have a
bigger budget and be able to attract more
advertisement and sponsors. Not only this but I think
that Bauer Media would help to improve the
networking of my magazine and broaden the
interactive approaches to audiences, for instance Q
Magazine has it’s own radio station and television
channel. I also believer that Bauer Media would be
the best distributer for the possibility to have a
Metronome App. By using Bauer Media I feel that
my magazine would be able to reach more
consumers and especially people who would not
typically buy a magazine as they would be able to
access it online or on radio.

Product
I think that my media product is perfectly suited for
festivals and I would hope to increase the magazine
brand by having a Metronome stage at festivals such as
Glastonbury or Lollapalooza. I would think that a slot on
Radio1would help boost my brand and eventually a
Metronome radio station that goes alongside the
YouTube channel, I would place my brand out for
sponsoring events and products to boost awareness and
consumers and ensure that the social media platforms
for my brand (Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram) were
always advertising for different events and products and
have them on any advertising for the brand to ensure I
reach the social media audiences such as students who
fall into my target audience.

I feel there is a gap in the industry for an Indie Pop magazine because most music magazines are for rock or pop music or an attempt of covering all music genres.
  • 5. My Chosen Distributer I chose Bauer Media because they would have a bigger budget and be able to attract more advertisement and sponsors. Not only this but I think that Bauer Media would help to improve the networking of my magazine and broaden the interactive approaches to audiences, for instance Q Magazine has it’s own radio station and television channel. I also believer that Bauer Media would be the best distributer for the possibility to have a Metronome App. By using Bauer Media I feel that my magazine would be able to reach more consumers and especially people who would not typically buy a magazine as they would be able to access it online or on radio.

Expansion Of My Media Product I think that my media product is perfectly suited for festivals and I would hope to increase the magazine brand by having a Metronome stage at festivals such as Glastonbury or Lollapalooza. I would think that a slot on Radio1would help boost my brand and eventually a Metronome radio station that goes alongside the YouTube channel, I would place my brand out for sponsoring events and products to boost awareness and consumers and ensure that the social media platforms for my brand (Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram) were always advertising for different events and products and have them on any advertising for the brand to ensure I reach the social media audiences such as students who fall into my target audience.
