1. The document outlines an evaluation of creating promotional materials for a fictional folk pop artist named Mathew English. 2. The initial plan was to find countryside locations associated with folk music to shoot photos for an advertisement and album packaging. However, poor weather conditions impacted the shoot and some locations had to be changed. 3. While the shoot was overall successful, issues with low light led to some blurry photos. The editing process went well though more time was spent on the cover than other elements. Valuable lessons were learned about planning shoots around weather and using Photoshop editing tools.

My initial plan was to create an advertisement and
Digipak for a made up artist. I wanted my Artist to be
a Folk Pop singer, very much like George Ezra
(Budapest) or the Icelandic group Kaleo (Way down
we go). I knew how I would like him to look. I didn’t
want my Artist (Mathew English) to be a Harry Styles
figure that has lots of fans. Instead I would want his
music to be known however he would not be a very
famous face. The plan to create this was to find
locations which would be associated with a folk style
music (rolling fields, countryside etcetera.) as the
location of the shoot is very important to the overall
outcome of the Digipak and advertisement.
My Planning went off track slightly, some locations which I wanted to use (shown in recce) I
did not end up using as the day of the shoot it was misty and overcast so the full effect of
that location would not have been reached. Another reason as to why we didn’t filmon

2. some locations which were shown in the recce is because of safety reasons. The day before
had rain which made it difficult to get out to the location as it was far out in the countryside.
If I could go back and shoot again I would have loved to of done it on a day in which the
weather wasn’t so bad. Because we shot on a dark day the quality of the photos taken was
not great which later gave me issues in the editing stage.
Overall the shoot went successfully however there were some issues during the shooting
stage mainly with the lighting as it was too dark in some location which made some photos
come out blurry. Despite this some photos I managed to take came out perfectly which I
would later use in my Digipak and Advert. One thing I would improve is to change the
location of the shoot or pick another day in which the weather wasn’t so overcast and take
more photos to show as evidence. This would allow me to get as many good quality photos
as possible and would later help me to edit. (Giving me more options and variety)
Editing went fairly successfully, a thing I would change is that I would not have spent so long
on the front cover. If I didn’t spend so long on the front cover I could work on other parts of
the digipak and advert and it would not have been such a rush.
However the edited product came out wonderfully. I felt that the finished product really
showed the codes and conventions of the folk genre (being the location) with elements of
the pop genre (being my artist’s style).
Overall I have learnt many techniques to be a better editor in Photoshop knowing how to
use the filters to full effect. I have also learnt that lighting and time of day is essential to a
successful and efficient shoot.
