The student created various advertising materials for Irn Bru including a poster, video, and game. For the poster, the main image was an Irn Bru can with additional cans and a water splash effect. The video followed a storyline of someone stealing Irn Bru with transitions between scenes. The game was inspired by Mario and Rayman with the goal of collecting Irn Bru cans while avoiding an evil Coke bottle. The student compared each work to similar professional ads, noting similarities like product focus but also differences in technical quality and style. Areas for improvement included adding more details, locations, and refining gameplay.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

3. • I have put my print together by using Photo shop and photo shop only. For the poster, photo shop was
the best option. For me the best idea was to to actually have the product on show all the time so the
main image I used was an Irn Bru can. Then I also took a water splash image and I used that for a new
technique I learnt. For the final image I used was a photo I took myself of one of the college hall ways.
I myself tried to make it my poster as I catching as possible because it’s a must. And by doing so I
placed multiple cans all over the middle of my poster with a large title, all in your face telling you “you
cant escape the taste”. I love how my final poster has turned out simply because it also looks very
professional. My poster is very anti realist because I have floating, moving cans fading into each other
and a big dissolved one in the middle. In a way my poster is also coercive because its telling you that
you cant escape the taste and that you have no other option to enjoy a fresh can of Irn Bru. When it
comes to lines and appeal my can comes across as dreams and fantasy because there are multiple can
floating and my drink could make you feel magical and float too.

5. • For this coca cola poster it has been put together in a very clever way in my opinion because again
like mine the drink is in the middle and center of attention even though on this poster a lot is going
on. The poster is showing that in the drink is happiness and friendship very well coming time
whilst drinking. For a while now coca cola have made their advertising campaign about friendship
and bringing everyone together. The images have been used to show what you experience would
be like drinking coke. All colorful and pure happiness. The creators of this poster have just kept
along with their theme of happiness and friendliness such as friendship, this has involved rainbows
and pretty colors and with the words “friendship on the coke side of life”. This just adds onto the
thoughts of you and the people who see the poster to be more curious to buy the product. Just like
before again this poster is very ant realist because so many magical things fly out of the bottle all in
different colors, which obviously wouldn’t happen in real life. This poster has a very big appeal and
persuasion on a huge topic of FRIENDS. Everyone wants friends or loves having friends so in a way
coca cola promises if you come join in drinking our product you will be living on the friend side of
life. And finally when it comes to lines of appeal on the posted is just looks like such a glorious
place which makes you want to be there with the coca cola family.

7. • My video was made in a pretty decent style to stay we had a camera and a try pod and only the
college grounds to film. I feel like with the video has a very mysterious feel and vibe on what is going
on. I shot in in this way because its about a person who robs the product. I had each scenes having a
black out to give it a pink panther theme which I thought went really well. And I added some cool
transitions just to make it seem a lot more cooler and adds variety. Throughout the whole of my
video I had the product in the shot at all times and that’s one of the most important rules of
advertising. Also I added in background color of orange and blue which is the color scheme that Irn
Bru use. My video is linear with a good tense and noticeable story line. The whole video is realist
with everything that happens is believable to happen. On the terms of lines of appeal in a way the
robber is an elite person or expert at the job he succeeds in.

9. • I think this video has been put together really well with a good linear layout and story line that you
can clearly understand and it gets the message across very well. Throughout from the start and even
until the end it shows the whole image of brotherly love of the older one doing horrible annoying
things to the younger brother. But then the older brother steps in when his brother is being bullied
and during this great act in the middle of it all is the drink coca cola and on a way it is sending a
message that coca cola brings brotherly love and that there's always good things happening when
coke is around. This brings a very nice realist message that makes people think positive thoughts
towards coca cola. When it comes down to lines of appeal the big obvious one would be happy
families and it almost brings comedy and humor because a lot of people can relate very well to this
advert. Finally I think that the advert gives a rewarding power in that after persevering from all the
annoying stuff his brother does to him it all pays off at the end, which also secretly puts in a life
lesson.

11. • By far this work has been my favorite simply because I love games and being able to create
something fun. The way I put all this together was a mixture of ideas which were Mario, ray man and
temple run. I used the thought of Mario for the layout of the actually game then the characters
similar to ray man and then finally the idea of being temple run where a character is being chased by
another. The images I used were all drawn by myself on Photoshop using pixels. When making the
game background I made sure there were things for the characters to jump onto which made editing
my video a lot more hard and more time consuming but the end product was very good. And I
ended up making three different backgrounds which made my game seem longer and made it look
better. How I have tried to be persuasive in the adver game is well make is actually enjoyable and
fun because if it isn't then it could make the customers have a more negative thought towards the
product. Like always and wanted the person playing the game to be none stop thinking about Irn Bru
whilst playing the game. I believe my adver game is linear which means it can appeal to a wider
range of people because its most simple to understand. I think that my adver game is way to far
from being realist, pretty much everything about it is anti realist. Running around Irn Bru bottle and
an evil coke bottle in an imaginary Irn Bru world. In my game there is a slight message of saying that
coca cola is evil and makes you think that Irn Bru is the hero. With my adver game I think it has quite
a lot of nostalgia for my age and the older generation because of what I've based my game off and
all my inspiration.

13. • This adver game has been put together in a very popular style of game for computers and mobiles.
Its like a catapult style throwing game of a stereo typical Scottish man gaining throwing a heavy
object. When it comes down to it this game is quite a simple game and personally got really bored
after a few minutes of playing. When it comes to all the techniques the game is anti realist because I
don’t think a real man couldn't throw a heavy item that far and with Irn Bru giving you an extra boost
every time you collect one on the way. Its pretty obvious that the game linear because it’s the same
repeating task over and over without any moving around with present and past. On lines of appeal
there actually is quite a lot, such as some dream and fantasy, elite people or experts, culture and
history, and hen finally it has comedy and humor. Also I think that this game gives a rewarding
benefit because its saying if you drink this drink then you will be become just as strong as the man
you're plying as.
14. Print Comparison
• Compare each of your products to the similar professional advert
– Discuss the similarities and differences? The technical qualities of your advert
compared to the professional one? Strengths and weaknesses of your own
advert? How would you change your advert if you could do so?
After a lot of different designs and constant trial and error I think I made a decent final poster
design. On my final design I listened to hat josh had been previously saying and actually use
some cool techniques that we has learnt over that past couple of weeks. Even though to a very
experienced photo shop editor my techniques seem a tiny bit basic but they all have come out
very well and work well together. The similarities of my poster and the professional one is that
they both have the product in the middle and the main center of attention. Both of the slogans
are also in clear sight so that one of the first things you when looking at the posters. Also I think
that both of the posters are very athletically pleasing to look at and I think that’s why they re
both eye catching. When it comes down to the differences the coca cola poster has more things
on and more professional but when it comes to mine I have a lot less going and and could be
made to look more professional with slight touches. Such as more experience and someone
else's opinions and thoughts on how I could improve it. When I mentioned about the
techniques I learnt and added to the poster I used a various amount of tools to complete each
technique. As in adding different layers, the eraser tool, effects and color tools. With the eraser
tool I used that too blend the water and the can together and then the effects to fade the cans
and coloring to mess around with the background.
15. Video Comparison
• Compare each of your products to the similar professional advert
– Discuss the similarities and differences? The technical qualities of your
advert compared to the professional one? Strengths and weaknesses
of your own advert? How would you change your advert if you could
do so?
With my video I thought I did the best with what I had given to us which we’re obviously limited with but
can still create some really good stuff. When it comes down to similarities the videos are based on
completely different things and have different messages and I think are shot completely differently. The
only similarity I have is that they both are linear with a good understanding of what is going on. The
technical qualities of my video are that I changed the background colors to same color scheme of the
actual product itself. And then I used simple techniques with the music by adding fade ins and outs and
also separating the clips and scenes so there would be a slight cut out of like 3 seconds then the next
scene would go on. Compared to the professional video the coloring effects on my video make it look less
professional because a lot of adverts keep plane normal background. But I feel like I've added in
techniques that professionals would and probably use all the time. Strengths and weaknesses of my
advert is that the strengths are its very relevant to the product and sticks to the task well meets all the
requirements. But I can think of more weaknesses, and those weaknesses are that it could've been shot a
lot better in some scenes and he acting could have been slightly better, our shot locations could've been
different with more variety. I made my own music for the video for a certain scene and I feel like I may
have rushed it and could have made it way better. When it comes down to improving the video I would
maybe edit the whole story of the advert and add some more creativity by adding in speech etc.
16. Advergame Comparison
• Compare each of your products to the similar professional advert
– Discuss the similarities and differences? The technical qualities of your
advert compared to the professional one? Strengths and weaknesses
of your own advert? How would you change your advert if you could
do so?
Finally my adver game by far is the project I am the most proud of. I think its because I have never
done anything like this before. Again like before I don’t really see any similarities other than they both
contain the product and are the main focus of the game. The color scheme are involved and both
games do have you thinking about the product constantly throughout watching or playing. The
differences of both games are that they are a different style of game and that they use a different
type of control mechanic to play. Another similarity of both games is that they're both very repetitive
and could have some change that could make it more refreshing to play. For the strengths of my game
I think the whole idea works very well and its very eye pleasing to look at. Another would be a feel
like I executed the final game very well for my first time. The game seems simple but still could be
seen as an actual game in my opinion. For the weaknesses if I had more time I could refine my
characters movements and make everything more detailed and practice my art skills when it comes to
pixel art. The technical qualities of mine compared to the professional one would be that mine
doesn’t look like it runs as smoothly as the professional one but I tried making some scenes longer in
duration to try and give a slow motion jumping animation. Adding on to some things I would change I
think I would design even more background scenes to make the game even better to watch and play
and this would then could branch out to adding in different levels.
