Media institutions
– There is a wide range of media institutions which could potentially distribute
our product, such as cinemas, TV and film festivals, HMV and CEX or other film
and music shops. Some supermarkets may also distribute our product.
– A few of the cinemas which could distribute our product are, Odeon, VUE,
Cineworld, Ambassadors Cinema, Empire Cinemas and Showcase Cinemas,
along with many other independent cinemas.

Guildford Odeon
– The most prevalent genre at the Odeon in Guildford is Drama. This is not our genre and isn’t
particularly related. In the range of films there are a few violent genres, however none of the
films being shown at present are of the thriller genre.
– Eight of the current films being shown possess the drama genre, therefore inferring that the
main audience in and around Guildford are people who are interested in those types of films.
It may also be due to the fact that there aren’t as many new thriller genre films as there are
dramas.
– The majority of the films at Guildford Odeon are also being shown at The Woking
Ambassadors Cinema, except for “Room”. Odeon Guildford does not show “Grandma” and
“The Good Dinosaur” which is shown at The Woking Ambassadors Cinema. The similar film
listings show that even some smaller branches of cinemas are able to show the same high end
films as larger cinema companies. The Woking Cinema seems to be showing one more film
than the Odeon in Guildford. This could infer that there is an increase in the audience size at
The Woking Ambassadors Cinema, even though there aren’t as many screens as there are at
Guildford’s Odeon.

The Electric Cinema -
Shoreditch
– The most prevalent genre shown at The Electric Cinema is Drama which is the genre
of six of their films, followed by Comedy which is the genre of four of their films. This
isn’t our genre and isn’t related, as there aren’t any violent or thriller genre films.
– Six out of the eight films being shown at that cinema are dramas, therefore inferring
that the majority of people around Shoreditch are mainly interested in films of that
nature.
– This is similar to the Odeon in Guildford and The Woking Ambassador Cinema as the
most prevalent genre shown at their cinemas are also of the drama genre. This
concurs that the most popular genre at the moment is most likely to be drama as it is
shown the most at the cinemas. This could be due to the increase of drama genre
films or due to the audience preferring that genre of film.
BFI – Southbank
– The most prevalent genre at the BFI in Southbank
is drama. This isn’t our genre and isn’t related,
however, “Jackie Brown” is related to our genre as
it is a thriller.
– Six out of the eight films being shown at that
cinema are dramas, therefore inferring that the
majority of people around Southbank are mainly
interested in films of that nature.
– This is similar to the Odeon in Guildford and The
Woking Ambassador Cinema as the most
prevalent genre shown at their cinemas are also of
the drama genre. This shows that the most
popular genre at the moment is most likely to be
drama as it is shown the most at the cinemas. This
could be due to the increase of drama genre films
or due to the audience preferring that specific
genre of film.

Sundance Festival
Sundance Festival
– The films shown at Sundance festival aren’t as popular as films shown at the
Odeon and other well known cinemas.
– The audience at Sundance festival would be completely different to that of
Odeon as they are of different genres and aren’t as well known.
– Sundance Festival probably doesn’t advertise their movies for as long as
popular cinemas do as they may not be able to afford it or because the film may
not be very popular.
Cannes Film Festival
Cannes Film Festival
– The films shown at Cannes film festival will be of a much broader variety than
those that are shown at the Odeon as they will be from many different
countries and of many different genres.
– There would be a wide variety of different people within the audience as there
are many different films being shown. Therefore the audience wouldn’t be the
same as the Odeon’s audience.
– They may not advertise their films for as long as Odeon and other popular
cinemas do because the films they show may not be as well known as the films
shown at cinemas.

Where would ‘The Last Task’ be
shown?
The Electric Cinema vs. Guildford Odeon
– I think that our film would be more likely to be shown in The Electric Cinema due
to the fact that it is a much smaller cinema with a smaller audience. I think this
would suite our film more as it is an independently produced film which may
suite a cinema on a smaller scale. Where as, larger-branched cinema chains
such as Odeon, would be more likely to show films produced by Warner Bros. or
21st Century Fox, as the quality of film is much higher and the expected audience
is also much higher. Another reason is that, Odeon would probably be more
likely to show films which have been advertised a lot, where as independent
films like ours wouldn’t have the funding to pay for advertising and also may not
be able to afford to show our film in one of the Odeon’s screens.
Where would ‘The Last Task’ be
shown?
BBC vs. Film 4
– I think that our film would most likely be shown on film 4 as BBC is a much
better known channel nationwide. People all over the world watch BBC for the
news and for some of the movies, therefore I think that it’s less likely for a
unrecognised film to be shown on that channel. I think it would be more likely to
be shown on Film4 as it’s a Freeview channel which not everyone has heard of.
Not everyone would watch that channel and it wouldn’t be shown globally.
Where would ‘The Last Task’ be
shown?
– I think that our film would be shown in things such as a young film makers
competition or a low-key TV channel which isn’t well-known. I think this
because the producers of the film aren’t well-known and therefore wouldn’t be
recognisable to the majority of the public. This would result in the film only
being shown on TV channels that aren’t shown globally and aren’t very popular.
– I think that the most realistic place to have our product would be on a young
film makers competition or on a YouTube channel, due to the fact that we are A-
level students and we aren’t well-known producers.
