2. Research
Strengths:
- The main strength of my research was the inspiration for my main idea, it
gave me lots of ideas for my main idea.
- Another strength was how it gave me good ideas on how to structure the
whole magazine, and the sort of photos, shapes and fonts I should be
using as well.
Weaknesses:
- The only weakness of my research was to find the target audience for the
genre of my magazine, the target audience is very open and was to hard to
find a real target audience for the genre.
- This did not have much effect on my product.
3. Planning
Strengths:
- The main strength of my planning was finding out the main structure of
my front cover and double page spread.
- I used a lot of features of my planning in my finished product and help my
make improvements with the spare time I had at the end of the
production period.
Weaknesses:
- There were no real weaknesses of my planning as I took big inspiration
from other magazines in the genre so my planning product was useful and
helped hugely in my final product.
4. Time Management
- My time management was very good and I completed my product within
the time limit that was given to us. I improved my products over time as I
had plenty of time to make amendments
- If I had more time I would have produced more double spreads with more
articles which relate to the front cover I made. So it would be a full
magazine with relations to the front cover.
- In my previous project my time management was the thing that really
impacted my final project and effected the quality of the product, so in
this project I wanted to focus on the time management and this
dramatically improved my work.
5. Technical Qualities
The first similarity I the main picture in the middle of the
magazine, the main focus of both magazines is the huge picture
of the car and instantly grabs the eye of the reader
Another similarity between the magazine covers, is the
headline. Both covers have a big title as the headline that again
catches the eye of the reader.
A big difference between these two magazine covers is
the layout of the other stories. The ‘Sim Racer’ racer
magazine displays its stories down the side of the
magazine cover but with my magazine cover all the
stories are down at the bottom on a slant. I put these
stories down at the bottom to have my own unique
style.
Another similarity between the two covers is the
addition of the giveaway poster. This is a feature which
is a part of lots of magazines and catches the interest
of the viewer and encourages them to buy the
magazine
The first similarity between the magazine covers is the name of the
magazine is in a huge box, this is used to make the title easy to read
and to prevent the title being lost. The title is usually in bold and big
fonts to make it stand out and give the magazine character.
6. Aesthetic Qualities
I think my work looks very good and the quality of the pieces are very high. The aspects of my work I
like is mainly the photography, the pictures are very professional and gives the magazine more of an
authentic look to both pages. The only thing I would improve is the masthead for the magazine, I
don’t think it looks like it would appear on a magazine. I would improve it by making it more authentic
and realistic.
Strengths:
- The Photography looks very professional and makes the magazine look realistic
- The colour scheme of the front cover works together and fits with the photography.
- The area where the stories are fitted on the front cover is unique and gives the front cover a bit more character
and gives the magazine with its own unique style
- On the double page spread the story is written professionally and formatted like an actual magazine down the
page.
- The picture on the double page spread in edited to give the page a bit more character and this is done by
making the background black and white and making the cars in their colours, this makes the cars stand out.
Weaknesses:
- The front cover could use a bit more pictures in it.
- The only weakness for my double page spread would be the page is taken up by a lot of text.
7. Audience Appeal
The way appealed to my target audience is by using colours on the front cover that
appeal to males. I also appealed to the target audience by including a lot of information
on the double page spread which appeals to the age group that was the target for this
magazine which was 17-35 males.
Another way I appealed to my target audience is by including a free poster inside the
magazine which usually appeals to younger audiences to buy the magazine.
Another way I appealed to my target audience was by including lots of stories on the
front cover which appeals to older audiences that like a lot of text
