Production Process Evaluation
Research
• I found the research pages really useful, the first thing I looked at was the
existing products which allowed me to look into the features used in other
film magazines. I discovered the different layouts, colour scheme and fonts
that are used in film magazines, this meant I could see what to include in
my own product so I didn’t include unnecessary features that wouldn’t
match. I thought about the most common designs that had been used and
why they had been used. The final thing I did to gather more research I
made an audience profile which was split down into three categories
which was category, demographic and content to appeal to this audience
and I explain each category in a box. The weakness of my research was
that I didn't read any of the magazines so I couldn’t understand what a
double spread should Iook like.
Planning
• The strengths of my planning were I used a unique title for my magazine, I
used fonts with a theme for movies and I didn’t stray away from my
original ideas.
Time Management
• I felt like I have managed my time well and I successfully finished my
production work on time. I think that I gave myself to many different
projects to complete in the time that I was given. For example I couldn’t
add as much detail as I wanted to when colouring in the characters and
settings. I could of also saved time if I had collected the sources I would
need to create my final piece before I had started it. If I had been given
more time I would of added more detail to the tings I have already made,
for example I would of added more colours to my characters and settings
and I would of added more movement to the animation I had made. The
projects I had left till last didn’t get as much attention as the ones I did
first because I was running out of time.
Technical Qualities
The similarities between these two projects is that they are both film magazines and the
differences between them is that one of the double page spreads of the magazine is a review and
the other one a synopsis of a film
Aesthetic Qualities
I think that my final product is really creative and unique. I have stuck by the technological
colour scheme I had discussed in my planning. If I was to improve my final pieces I would use a
bolder font for the subtitles for my magazine cover. I think the best thing I made for this project
was the magazine cover and the double page spread because I added enough detail and made
them unique. I think that my biggest strength was sticking to the theme and ideas that I had
chosen in my planning. I think my weakness was not adding enough detail to both my projects.
Audience Appeal
The overall audience that my magazine would appeal to is all ages from all sex’s. It still doesn’t
specially aim at any social group or psychographic. My final piece would also appeal to anybody
who is into movies or TV.
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– The layout matches the conventions of a magazine.
– The images are in focus and are relevant to the genre.
– The masthead is catchy and conveys the genre of the magazine.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
• The writing on the front cover text is difficult to read
because of the colour contrast with the background
• The images on the inside of the double page spread are
quite dark
• There isn’t a page number on the double page spread
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– Colour scheme works well with the cover photo
– –Your use of the conventions of masthead, articles titles and info on the cover are accurate
and appropriate
– –Your main article is laid out well and logically, the image and article text fit well together.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• Your cover needs to make the article titles more clear, as they’re quite indistinct at
the moment [very thin font and perhaps needs a colour box behind them?],
perhaps remove the Mary Poppins text and replace with your own text?
• Magazine title could be bigger and more prominent
• Double page spread works with chosen colour and images, but could you add
some pull quotes to break up the text? Captions for the images? Make the article
heading clearer?
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– The centre page spread is great and I’m glad the Gradient made it into your final draft.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
The text MARY POPPINS RETURNS is in a font that doesn’t stand out as much as it could once it sits over
the background colours of the poster, also the word EVERY encroaches on the face of the actor which
obscures/relegates the actor within the image.
The text bottom left also struggles for legibility how about inserting as a Puff in a shape with a coloured
background – this would separate it from the poster and signal to the reader that it is information about
another film/subject.
You are missing Price and Date which could be inserted as PUGS on the cover.
The poster contains the text ‘Disney MARY POPPINS RETURNS you then have text overlapping the word
RETURNS but it is saying the same thing ie. MARY POPPINS .. do you think it necessary to say MASRY
POPPINS twice ? – could you think about possibly erasing the poster text (Disney MARY POPPINS
RETURNS) as this would give you a clear area to place your own text against a white background giving
great legibility.
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– I agree that the font is difficult to read and the
title needs to be bigger.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
I disagree that the images on the inside of the
double page spread are quite dark.
Peer Feedback Summary
The changes that I would make to my product
based upon my peer feedback is that I would get a
font that is more readable, add the price and date,
and make the title font bigger.
