2. Research and planning: how have your skills developed and what
benefit has this had on your work?
The skill which I have used from the start of the year until now have developed because at the start of the year I was unsure on
how to use the skills the best that I could, however since I am using the skills quite often now I am becoming more used to
them and In effect of this I feel as though that my work is better that what it was at the start of the year and It is more detailed
which will make my work be as good ad it can be.
Did you produce work more in line with professional practice as you have a more
detailed understanding of the forms and conventions of real media products?
When I was first getting used to the software at the start of the course is when I created my first posts to my blog, however
once I got a understanding of the forms of the media I realised that I could do a lot more with my work. So what I did was I
when I created more pieces of work I began to make them in more detail and If I would start using prezies instead of
PowerPoint so that some of my work was more interactive instead of just writing on a page.
Did you manage your time better?
The way which I managed my time was I mad sure that I had done all of my work by the deadlines (my blog was up to date). By
doing this it meant that I could use my spare time to makes any improvements to my research and planning, product and my
blog. By finishing my time by the deadline it meant that I could get my feedback on time and then change/ make improvements
to my blog to make it as good as it can be.
Was your work well planned?
My work was well planed, the way I planned my work is by using a progress tracker and this tracked my progress that I made with
my product every lesson because I wrote in what I would do each lesson. and I also used a assessing progress booklet and this is
where I put my grades in what I got for my product and I could see where I could improve.
3. These are images of the professional magazine and my magazine that I created from inspiration from the professional
magazine:
4. Construction:
How did your skills develop using software and hardware and how has this
improvement evident inco your work?
When I was first getting used to the software at the start of the course is when I created my first product, however once I got a
understanding of the forms of media I realised that I could do a lot more with my work. So what I did was I created a new final
product and that product look a lot better because I could use the tools more efficiently and in effect of this it made my magazine
look more professional. What I also made use I did was I used the best images which I had takes to that they looked more
professional and I also thought about the page layout/ set up so that my magazine look as good as it could I id didn’t have lots of
dead space on the page. The final this I will talk about is the text/ fonts that used the fonts I used that fonts I get form da font and
fonts which where already on the software, I made sure that the fonts that I used look professional and didn't look to basic. . Here
is my first magazine product and my second product I made:

5. Comparing my magazine to the professionals: mast
head
These image are of my magazine ( my magazine is the image at the top of the page with the pink
colour scheme) and image of the professional magazine ( that magazine is at the bottom of that
pages and it has different magazine for different pages such as the front cover, contents page and
the double page spread.
You can see that both of the magazine have a mast head. A mast head is the title of a newspaper
or magazine at the head of the first or editorial page. The mast head is usually located above of
bellow the skyline which can usually be the website of the magazine or any little bits of
information.
Producers normally make sure that the mast head is in a bold font and it is a bright colour so that
it will stand out and catch peoples eyes and attention.
Another thing that a mast head will do is it will inform the reader what they are reading and what
the page is about. An example of this is on my contents there is a mast head which says in bold
writing ‘contents’ this helps the reader understand that that are reading a page about the content
in the magazine. Another example would be on the front cover there mast head says ‘the beat’
this is a key bit of information because it is the name of the magazine.
6. Comparing my magazine to the professionals:
sell lines
All magazines also have headings, these are called sell lines. The sell lines are
there the arrows come from on the images of my magazine and the
professional magazine. A sell line a Short, sharp description of the title's main
marketing point. Another key think that sell lines do is that intrigue the reader
and they will then but the magazine because they have read the sell lines on
the front cover of the magazine and this then means that they will then buy the
magazine because they will be interested to what content is inside the
magazine.
The sell line on my magazine are also in pink coloured text so that they stand
out and people read the, they are also in pink because it will link to my colour
scheme which is pink, black, white and grey. If I my magazine has the same
colour scheme through out it will make the magazine look more effective and
more people will but it.
7. Comparing my magazine to the professionals: main
images A main image is a key feature to any magazine. The main images on my
magazine has to be images that look professional and that catches the
readers/ audiences eye.
what is a main image? The main image is a large image that takes up most of
the page and the main image is used to catch the attention of the reader and
appeal to them.
The main image on the contents page is also using a different model to the
image on the front cover and the double page spread, this is because my
magazine represents different social groups of the same age people and it also
shows the range of content that is in my magazine. In effect of this it will
mean that it will relate to more readers and then it will create a larger
audience the this means that more magazines will be sold because more
people are interested.
My images look very similar to the image used on the professional magazine
because they look like they were both taken in a photography studio and were
both taken using a digital SLR camera and they both had studio lights turned
on so that the image can be as good quality as possible, this will then make
the images look good and effective for the magazine.
8. Comparing my magazine to the professionals:
skylines
A skyline is usually text that is either above or below the mast head it can
give little bits of information. An example of this is on my magazine on the
front cover my skyline is below the mast head and it is the website more the
make of the magazine, which is the beat. The definition of a skyline is
The skyline is the strip at the very top of the magazine.
Usually, a skyline includes information about a free giveaway or a
competition. The purpose of the skyline is to catch the attention of the
customer by giving them an exciting offer.
The skyline is usually in a colour that isn’t as bright as the mast head however
bold enough for readers to notice and read it.
Is can also be put in a text where it isn’t as big or as bold as the mast head,
however it is often the same size, colour and font as the sell line on the
magazine.
9. Comparing my magazine to the professionals:
colour scheme
In my magazine i also included a colour scheme through out the magazine,
a colour scheme is a vital part of a magazine because it will make your
magazine stand out from others in a shop when you distribute your
magazine. The colour scheme which i used was pink, grey, whit and black.
white, grey and black are very neutral colours so i included a vibrant pink
so that it stood out on the magazine. Another reason why i used this
colour scheme is because both boys and girls read this magazine so i used
colours which appealed both to boys and girls. 87% of the audience is girls
and 13% of the audience is girls, so i included some pink in my colour
scheme so it appealed to the majority of my audience to my magazine.
Here are the colours that I used in my colour scheme:
The professional magazine tends to have the same affect on the magazine as
mine however they can use different colours in their colour scheme foe
example the double page spread, there colour scheme look like it is orange,
black and a colour which is like a light blue with hints of grey in it.
10. Comparing my magazine to the professionals: puff
A puff in a magazine tends to be a key feature on the front cover of a
magazine but can appear on other pages such as the contents page, an
example of this is the image of the professional magazines at the bottom
of the page.
A puff is usual a different coloured shape on your magazine and that
includes key bits of information, an example of this is on my front cover
of my magazine I have a white outline of a circle and inside the circle I
have a different coloured text so that it stands out and it say ‘world tour
info’ in it.
The definition of a puff is it is placed on the cover to make something
stand out. Usually by putting text into a shape. This sticker which can be
seen in almost every magazine and is used for promoting something
inside the magazine.
11. Comparing my magazine to the professionals: images
on the double page spread.
Both of the double page spreads in each magazine as all of the basic key features.
These key features are also known as the:
Mast head, text for the article, colour scheme, main image and a drop capital to
start off the article on the double page spread. And example of this is on my
magazine the T at the start of the article is bigger than all of the text in the article,
and the S in the professional magazines double page spread.
I would say that my mast head is just as affective as the one on the professional
magazine, this is because it is in a bright and bold colour that matches the colour
scheme and is in a different font to the rest of the text on the page, which is also
the biggest size. Another similarity that you can see between both of the magazine
double page spread is the main image on the left page. They both are large images
that represent the artist that the article is about however you can see that the
professional one has had a lot more thought put into the costuming and the
aspects of mise-en-scene in the image, you can see this by her colour of her
lipstick matches the colour scheme in the magazine. Also the professional
magazine has used a close up shot in there magazine and I have used a medium
shot in mine so there is some slight differences between them.
12. How improvement has been made to my magazine:
The first images at the top of the page Is my original magazine that I produced ( magazine one )
And then the other pictures at the bottom of the is the second magazine that I have produced
and that is my final product that I will use ( magazine two ). You can see that magazine one
doesn’t look as affective as magazine two you I had to make some improvement to it. The
improvements that I did was I took new images, changes the fonts used, used a different colour
scheme and did a different layout to my magazine. The reason why I took new images was
because the image looks more professional if it is took on a whit background and it will also
make it easier for me to edit the images on Photoshop. The reason why I also changed the fonts
on my magazine is so that it will look more professional and also develop the magazine further
because I needed it to look as good as it possibly could. This is also why u used a different
colour scheme, I used a deeper pick so that it looked more bold and stood out more to catch
the eyes of the audience who was looking at it. Finally, I also changed the layout of my
magazine because the layout on magazine one looks like it was just put together with colourful
squares and I needed it to look more affective so I researched professional magazines and took
inspiration off there front covers, contents pages and their double page spread.
