2. Introduction
With this PowerPoint I will get into the detailing of how my look book will set
out, what content it will have and what sort of influences I will have to get to
that point. Looking at these influences and planning it in advance will be key
for the production and what sort of stuff I will make. In addition to this,
looking at pre-existing work and picking out key features that work that I can
use in my work will also be a big feature in my production planning as that
gives me ideas on what works and what I like in a product which can
influence my idea generation.
Looking at all aspects of work will mould my work in the perfect way as I will
know what each piece of the page needs and what works well on their own
and what works well together.
Some of the external sources I will look at will mainly be from Instagram
pages I take influence from. I will look at their colour schemes, fonts,
composition etc.
3. Content Preparation
For my work I need to have high quality pictures and not only that they need to specific angles of
the cars/drivers etc. to put them in certain sicarios and environments. As due to the current climate
of the world right now, taking photos of Formula One cars is impossible and even without the
current situation with the world getting high quality photos of Formula One drivers is as impossible.
To get round this problem I will be using external photographs from online sources. However, to
avoid copyright law I will have to alter the photograph to make it unique to this piece of work. I
think this can be achieved as I have done it previous work and it has turned out very well.
Another way I can get around this is by using a technique called rotoscoping. I can use this by
tracing over existing photography and making it my own with solid colour masks. This is another
way I can get around the copyright law.
My work wone require any photography while in the production phase. However, I do have
photography of my own that I can use. These photos have been taken years when I have gone to
events in previous years. These will be relied on when I have run out of ideas or I have extra time
and can make more pages.
I feel that having no distraction of having to take pictures will help my work as I can focus on the
aesthetic features more to create better work of a higher quality. Using photos that have been taken
already off external sources will also help me with the aesthetic features as I can pick and choose
cars and drivers from different eraโs of Formula One.
5. Style Sheet โ Serif Fonts
Serif fonts are used throughout print work to set the mood of the page and
show the reader what the article on the page is about. These fonts are
usually used in more serious/formal work. For example, articles, interviews
etc.
Serif fonts play a huge part in articles and informational pieces, these fonts
are used for large pieces of writing and the reason for this is to give the
reader the impression that these long articles are serious and are full of
informational content
The serif fonts I have picked out have same sophisticated look to them and I
will use them appropriately throughout my look book. I will be using these
fonts in more informational pieces or pieces of work that involve statistics.
These fonts will help the reader recognise what is information from other
text.
7. Style Sheet โ Sans-Serif Fonts
Sans-serif fonts are a huge part of graphic design and for a big reason. In
edits that I am trying to achieve sans-serif fonts are the main fonts that are
used to portray information such as names, countries etc.
These fonts are used a lot as they have a lot of potential to be used in certain
themes and situations. Sans-serif fonts are mainly used for titles, logos or
subheadings as they stand out on the page and catch the readers eyes. This
is case for graphic design work too, if the text is eye catching you will want
this in your art work.
The way I am going to use these font is the same way a lot of graphic
designers use them. They will be there to grab the attention of the viewer
but also portray information about the subject of the edit. I can manipulate
these sans-serif fonts easily to fit the environment of the edit.
9. Style Sheet โ Retro Fonts.
These retro fonts will be scarce within graphic design
and this is due to them being not as popular as serif or
sans serif fonts. However, some of the styles I am going
to be going for will have a retro feel to them and will
have a retro theme, some of these themes will be some
sort of 80โs vaporwave theme or an adaptation of that
theme. These fonts will be very useful for providing the
same feel to the page as they will work better than
normal sans serif or serif fonts.
These fonts are all unique in their own and will help
with the retro theme I will be going for in some of my
work. Here is an example of what retro theme I will be
going for. The retro font brings a nice aesthetic to the
work and works as a big feature like car
10. Style Sheet - Colors
For these style sheets I am going to be looking at influences that I have been
taking inspiration throughout the weeks coming up to the production weeks.
These influences have developed my understanding on what I want to make
and also helps me create new ideas combining techniques that these
influences have used and I have noticed that I can use parts of their work to
help me make something I have been aiming to achieve.
My influences have been coming from the graphic design community on
Instagram. The reason I chose this area to create my inspiration is due to the
fact that I am constantly looking at these accounts that create work and this
community has created a mass community so I can easily see what features,
colours, fonts, drivers, cars people like due to what gets more likes than
other.
12. Style Sheet โ Colours TLDesign
TLDesign is a big part of the Formula One graphic design community and is
one of my favourites. His use of lighting and idea generation is inspiring for
me and lots of other creators within the community. From the three
examples we can see popular colours include, Blues, Greens and Blacks. This
creator also uses colours that relate to the driver or the car and I think this is
a very good thing as the theme fits the drivers brand and aesthetic.
Looking at these colours has given me inspiration for my work and I will use
these colours in my work as they are very popular within TLDesignโs work.
Dark colours mixed with a harsh use of the subject colour is a good way of
setting a mood and theme of the design. This technique is something I am
going to use and I will use the popular colours like Blues, Greens and Blacks
in my work as I believe they work well.
14. Style Sheet โ Colours Rflectionart
This account is a very unique one in the Formula One graphic design
community, this account makes very clean and simple graphic design which
works so well and his growth is a prime example of how popular they work
is. The reason I chose this account as another influence for the colours is the
fact that they use little colours but makes the page look very aesthetically
pleasing. A prime example of this is the Daniel Ricciardo page on the
previous slide. This use of little colours is a really good effect an I think that if
I can take influence with my rotoscoping pages I think it will come out strong.
Rflectionart uses colours like White, Green and Blue to create their work.
These colours are fresh and work well together to create that modern and
sophisticated looking work. I will try and use this colours like I said in my
rotoscoping work as I think this style is appropriate for those pages, simple
colours together will work with the simple style that is rotoscoping
16. Content โ Rotoscoping pages
For the first few pages I want to create a rotoscope collage
from famous Formula One cars and liveries. These liveries
will be very simple as the liveries won't have any sponsors
rotoscoped on them with pastel colored background.
These pages will make up half of the look book and will add a
good contrast to the detailed pages such as the Lewis
Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and Daniel Ricciardo.
Using these pages to compliment the more complex pages
will help please my target audience as some members of my
audience enjoy more simple designs and these rotoscopes
will appeal to them as they are very simple.
17. Content โ Retro Designs
For the second type of design, I want to try and create
some sort of modern vaporwave design. I want to try
and make the vaporwave my own style with new colours
and a new layout.
With this experiment I decided to try and take influence
from pictures from Behance. I used a vaporwave floor
png and used the morph tool to try and shape it to fit
the floor I wanted it to look like. After this I chose a car
picture that would fit the floor I just morphed. After I
found the correct photo I cut it out and adjusted the
lighting with hue and saturation layers.
These pages will share the similar layout but each have
something unique about them to make them standout
against each other. Also, these pages will create a good
contrast to the rotoscope pages and will help the look
book have a good balance of complex and simple
designs
18. Content โ Helmet Designs
With the final type of design, I will be trying to create designs
from famous driver helmet designs. I think this is a really
unique design approach and will add something new to the
look book compared to the previous designs.
With this experiment of the design, I chose the driver Senna as
his helmet is one of the most iconic in formula one history. I
think this experiment worked well as the whole design had the
same sort of theme and colour scheme as the background of
the helmet worked well with the car and helmet.
These pages will suit my target audience who preferred older
generations of formula one as these pages will focus on the
legendary drivers of formula one. Overall, these partner well
with the other two types of pages. One type is simple, one is
modern and complicated, and the other is complicated but has
an old feel to it
