The document summarizes the student's work on creating magazine covers and pages for Formula One drivers. It discusses the design choices made for the front cover to give it a retro 1970s style. It also describes fact file pages created about three drivers that included consistent elements like fact boxes and team logos. Individual pages for Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher experimented with Photoshop techniques like masks and effects. A final page of Lando Norris and Sergio Perez used a neon 3D theme created by removing RGB colors from their photos. The student provides critiques for each page, noting things that could be improved if more time was available, like adding more detailed photos or written articles.
2. Front Cover
For the front cover I went for a retro 70’s style while following the
basic colour schemes of the times. I think the cover came out really
well as the cover has a really good retro look. The colour schemes
make the page pop but also fit really well as I used the environment
to decide what colours I will use throughout the magazine cover, for
example I used the aqua blue of the Mercedes car for the main story
colour. From there I decided to use a stronger colour that will make
the magazine name stand out compared to the rest of the cover, I
decided the red I used was perfect as it contrasted the soft colours
on the page.
The one thing I dislike about this page is the text at the bottom of
the page, it was hard to try and fill the empty at the bottom of the
page and also try and fit in extra stories on the page. I decided that
having a short titles at the bottom of the page was the best thing to
do to fill the space.
4. Fact File Pages
The next pages all followed the same theme, I wanted three pages that focused on
information on some drivers in Formula One. I decided to add the same elements
to each one, these elements include; a fact file box, Team logo and colours, the
driver photo close up.
These fact file pages were very successful, they were easy to make and look very
good. The subtle features were my favourite bits of these pages. For example, the
features like the team logo and the colour overlay made the pages look complete
and avoided the pages all looking the same.
The one thing I didn’t like about the pages were the pictures I used for the
background, I feel like I could’ve adapted them a lot more rather than just putting a
colour overlay over them.
If I had more time with this project I would’ve put more time into the pictures and
added more detail like colour masks on them to highlight certain areas.
5. Lewis Hamilton Page
With this page I wanted to use one of the
techniques I learned with my experiments.
The first thing I did was get the smoke picture
I used in my experiments, then cut out the
image of Lewis. Then I used a mask to blend
the image int the smoke to get the effect of
him coming out the smoke.
I think this page came out really well as it has
good photoshop techniques, and had a good
information tab.
The one thing I don’t like about this page is
the text box, I ran out of time to write an
article for the page so I had to just fit a fact
file in there. If I had more time I would’ve
written an article to put in the box to the left.
6. Schumacher Page
This page was similar to the Lewis Hamilton one,
where I wanted to focus on the page having a good
aesthetic look to it instead of the page relying on
information like an article or interview.
The page came out really good, I used the liquefy
tool, masks and custom brushes to create the
particle technique on the driver. This technique is
very good and made the page look really good.
The one thing I don’t like again is the text box, I
think it doesn’t fit the page and I think moving the
driver to the left then adding an article or interview
to the right of the image would have been a better
choice. Again, if I had more time I would’ve done
this but overall I think this page looks very good.
7. Lando Norris and Sergio Perez Page
This page was a big experiment, I looked at
techniques like this and tried to replicate it in this
page. The page had a sort of neon 3D theme.
This was very easy to create. I cut out the pictures
of the drivers then used the blending options tool
on each picture to remove two of the RGB colours
from the picture to create this technique. With a
few final touches like the text and drop shadows
the page came out very good.
I like the features like the contrasting colours
overlapping to create a pink colour I think that
looks really good
The one thing I don’t like is the lack of features, I
think the page is missing something and I think
with more time this could have been acheived
