2. Front Cover
With this front cover I went with a 90’s/80’s retro design. I like
the style of this generation and it made my magazine stand out
from other modern magazines. The way I made this style was
by lowering darks and white balance to create a white
overlay/grainy effect on the whole cover.
I decided to use colour combinations that I know work together
and were popular in the 90’s/80’s, this style came out very good
and enhanced the style I was going for. I also tried to match the
colours to the image that I was using for the background, this
helped the title blend into the picture.
The whole front cover looks very good and perfectly sums up
the style I was going for with the retro influence. I like the
whole style of the magazine and enjoyed making the front
cover as it is a new and unique style i have never tried to make.
I also like the colours of the magazine, the work really well
together and bring the whole thing together
3. Front Cover
This is the example of me changing
the white balance and overall style of
the magazine. The first image has very
bold colours with the blacks and the
image stands out compared the to
text, making the text lost in the page.
However, after I changed the white
balance and contrast of the whole
image the cover took shape with the
retro style.
The changing of the white balance
helps the text and the picture
compliment each other with the same
style
4. Front Cover
The image I took for my magazine
was taken with a very high quality
camera that would make the image
not fit the aesthetic and style I was
aiming to achieve.
I used the camera raw filter to
change the Exposure, Contrast,
Whites and Clarity to make the
image have the retro feel and style
to it.
This editing of the photo was a
major part of creating this whole
aesthetic of the magazine.
5. Double Page Spread
This was the end result of my double page spread ideas.
The first thing I did was look at my experiments and see
what inspiration I could get. I found a smoke football
screensaver I made as a part of those. I decided to have
the same concept but the smoke going across the whole
screen with Lewis Hamilton coming out it.
I really like the whole concept of this page as the smoke
tint with Lewis’ helmet and suit compliments each other
really well and brings a whole mood to the page. I really
like the sharpness of the colours on the image of Lewis,
it brings a lot of depth to the page and makes it look
high quality.
Tomorrow I will continue making amendments to the
double page spread and I will go onto make another one
for my fanzine.
6. Double Page Spread
The first thing I did to make this double page spread was to import a
smoke screen background effect, this one I found was perfect for what
atmosphere I wanted to create. The next thing I did, was changing the
colour balance of the background to make a dark purple tint to match
Lewis Hamilton’s helmet. After i did this I imported a picture of Lewis that
would be suitable to have coming out the smoke. I used the lasso tool to
cut him out, after this I clipped him to the background so he had the
purple tint to him. This helped blend him into the background and the
overall style of the background. After I had Lewis cut out and clipped into
the background I had to blend him into the background. I did this by
creating a clipping mask on the image then using the White colour and the
brush too I could slowly blend the smoke into the image. I repeated this
until the flat part of the image was gone and the effect of him coming out
of the image was complete.
After I had my whole background sorted I placed a rectangle on the other
side of the page but decided to lower the opacity of the rectangle to blend
it into the background and help it fit within the whole page as it without
the opacity changed It stood out too much and made the page look messy.
7. Second Double Page Spread
With this double page spread I went with a fact file type
of design. The image is a extreme close up and is pointing
in a way that guides your eyes towards the information
about the driver. The blue tint and Williams logo in the
background gives the page a nice mood and nice style to
it.
To create this grainy effect on the page i imported a .png
and lowered the opacity so the page had a nice feel to it.
I also added a drop shadow to the box that featured the
text to make the information stand out and pop off the
page, it also adds extra depth to the page and gives it a
good structure.
Overall I really like the style of this page as it has minimal
information but that’s enough to create a nice structure
and mood to the page, the different shades of the blues
and white work really well together to make a really good
double page spread
8. Third Double Page Spread
This double page spread took the same style as the
previous one. However, this one took a different
colour scheme than the previous one as I want all the
colours to match the ones of the liveries of the cars.
This colour scheme was used all around the double
page spread including the text.
I used the same techniques as the previous double
page spread as I enjoyed the style of that one. I used
various photoshop techniques such as the Camera
Raw Filter, Hue and Saturation editing and the use of
the solid colour feature.
9. Fourth Double Page spread
With this double page spread I wanted to create a artistic scatter piece for
the Prema F2 driver. First thing i did was find an appropriate picture to cut
out with the polygonal lasso tool. After I had my image cut out I duplicated it
to keep the original image. With the duplicated image I liquified that, so it
stretched the colours across the page. After I had completed this I masked
the stretched image and coloured over it with the black colour so it got rid of
the whole stretched image, leaving the original. I then chose a scatter brush
and chose the white colour to slowly reveal the colour from the liquified
image. This effect look really good but to make it even more effective I
created a clipping mask over the duplicated image and chose the white
colour so it would get rid of the colour from the normal image with the same
design as I was using the same brush. After I finished this I added factual
information in a translucent box to the left of the image. Overall think this
design came out perfect and looks quality
10. Fifth Double Page Spread
With this double page I went with the same fact file style that i did for
Daniel Riccardo and George Russell. These were simple to make and
provided information. The first thing I did for this page was to find an
appropriate image. Once I had found this I found the same grainy image
that I needed to create the effect over the page. I did this by laying the
grainy picture over the page then lowering to opacity so it created that
effect over the page. After this I created a colour fill mask of the same
colour of the car, then lowered the opacity of that to leave the theme
of the page on the car. Next I imported a picture of the McLaren
Formula One Team logo to place in the background. I added drop
shadow and lowered the opacity of that to leave the focus on the
formula one car. After this had all been done I created a text box with
the secondary colours of the car and made the text the orange main
colour of the car to have the same theme throughout the page. I added
drop shadow to that then the page was finished.
11. Sixth Double Page Spread
For this double page spread I wanted to try and make a overlapping
neon double colour exposure. The first thing I did was to find two
images of drivers with their helmets on as I thought that that would be
the easiest to make the colours work. I found out that the Max
Verstappen image I chose wasn’t going to work with the Lando Norris
Image I chose so I adapted to using a Sergio Perez image I found instead
and this worked better. After I found the images I went into the blending
options of each image and tuned off two of the Red, Green and Blue
options so each image had their own separate colour that would create
a separate colour when overlapped. After I had my images sorted I
started on the text. I placed the text underneath the images so the
colours would mix between that. After this I added drop shadow to the
Championship standings text to create this same effect with the text.
Overall this came out really good and was very simple to make.
