ISYU TUNGKOL SA SEKSWLADIDA (ISSUE ABOUT SEXUALITY
Evaluation 7
1. Looking back to your preliminary task, what
do you feel that you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product.
By Chloe Boadilla
2. What have you learnt about the conventions of magazine
productions and what progress have you made from the student
mag?
Comparing my student magazine to my music
magazine, it shows how my understanding of
magazine conventions have strengthened. In my
student magazine front cover I only focused on what
looked nice and could fit on the page, however on
my music magazine front cover I kept in mind the
conventions but at the same time the visual looks
too. E.g. My sub-headline is in a totally different font
to rest of the page, where as my student magazine’s
sub-headline does not stand out, and does not even
look like a sub headline as it’s font and size is the
same as the sell lines, which is hard to differentiate
what is what! What is the sub headline? What is the
sell lines? What is the logo?

Image: the lighting has improved,
as I took pictures where the
lighting complimented everyone.
School magazine: the sell lines were unorganised,
and had different sizes which made it hard to tell
the difference between the headline and the sell
lines. Also the background makes it hard to read the
sell lines as he colours clash.
Music magazine: the sell lines have a clear colour
scheme which stands out against the dark
background which is easy to read. Alongside that
my headline is bigger than the sell lines which
shows that it is the headline, the headline is also a
different font to the sell lines which highlights its
importance. Because I have chosen a solid
background it mad it easier to choses colours to
make my text clear. I also arranged the sell lines in a
neat position.

Looking back at my preliminary task, I have progressed a lot as I conformed to the conventions of a magazine more, and also organised where
everything should be placed. I also showed my skills I have learnt on photoshop in my music magazine. I only used powerpoint for my school magazine,
which just goes to show that I learnt many skills in the process e.g. taking away the back ground, adjusting lighting, and angels of the camera. I also
improved creatively as my school magazine was very basic unlike my music magazine as I added a cool neo outline effect. I have also improved in my
photo taking skills, I worked on angles which helped complement the model and the lighting; as the model’s face in my school magazine was half
exposed to light, causing the model have a hard time looking directly into the camera. Comparing my front cover music magazine models, they all are
looking directly into the camera, in a comfortable position, in and angle that allows them all look up.

Contents
School contents page: I only had features nothing
else which made my contents page really boring. My
photo taking pictures were not great, I held the
camera in an angle; so my pictures look
unprofessional. I didn’t label the page contents. The
features include sub headlines however you can not
tell because I used the same size and font which
could be confusing.
Music magazine: I had 3 different sections to read:
features, Hot topic and writer’s box. This allowed my
contents page to be more exciting as there is more
to read. I included 4 pictures that were taken
properly and all were camera focus. I wrote in
columns which provided a neat page.

Looking back at my preliminary task, I learnt to take risks because my contents page is different to a
professional magazine as I made the artist into a 3d position. My school magazine was a serious magazine
where as my music magazine had its own personality, as it was weird and quirky.
I improved my contents page as I changed the fonts of the features; making sure the summary of the page
was smaller. I also changed the layout and position of my images as in my school magazine it was plan and
boring but in my music magazine it had different positions.
5. Process of making my school magazine front cover
I took pictures on grass, in position that
a runner would start a race, costume
was a sport outfit: which highlights my
school magazine are for the sporty
students.
Then, using PowerPoint I then
began to add a masthead,
headline and sell lines. In the end I had to
start again, this is
due to the
unfocused photo I
took and the
background.
As my colour
scheme is white and
yellow/gold it
doesn’t show well as
the background
varies in colour,
making my sell lines
unreadable.
6. Because I started again I
had to re take photos.
This time I took various
shots and chose the best
one.
I then started adding a
masthead, sell lines, button,
banner etc. onto the image.
7. Process of making my music magazine front cover
1) I started
drafting and
sketching my
ideas to see what
type of shot I
would want to use
and where
everything should
be positioned.
2) After working out what I wanted my front cover to look like I
then began to take pictures.
I chose these models as I wanted a young group of girls to be
my front cover. Reasons why they are my front cover
-all girls.
My survey said that teens wanted to see a girl group in my
magazine.
-they are 16-17 years old which is suitable for my target market.
8. Adding main image
I took away the original
back ground and put a
solid black background
with an colour full
outline surrounding the
models.
I then added a masthead
along the top. And a
website, barcode and price.I then began to add sell lines
and buttons, this part took the
longest time as I had to figure
out how much sell lines I needed
in the space provided. I then had
to make user the sell lines were
relevant and subject specific.
Then I had to make sure the
colour scheme was clear enough
to read. I chose yellow and blue,
the blue is used to highlight the
key information.
Lastly added the
headline. This was
done last because it
was really hard to
find the right font.
9. Process of making my school magazine contents page
I didn’t do much for this stage as I just typed the
features and just added pictures.
10. Process of making my music magazine contents page
This was the best picture I took in the
best position for my idea of the artist
entering a new galaxy.
I took away the back
ground using the pen tool.
Then got a galaxy image
from google and applied it
underneath the layer of the
artist.
I wrote 3 different sections:
features, hot topic and writers
box:
I also made
another model
pop out as she
sits on the
box(shows how
alive the
contents page
is.)
11. I like the coloured
outline around the
people.
I also like the vibe it
gives, very urban.
It’s really cool! Its
really interesting
The bright
colours are really
nice and work
well with the
black back
ground
I really like the
position of the
models, they
really look
good.
I think the sell lines
should have been
more even on each
side.
Its not like a
magazine I have
seen before. I
would buy it!
12. This is so unique! I
really love it!
Its so weird and
strange. I think it is
perfect for 14-18 year
old.
It is so
unusual and
cool!
I really like how you
edited the girl to look
like she is walking out
the frame!
I think you
could’ve made it
a double page, to
fit more.
I like the layout, the layout
seems messy but its cool
to look at. I think you could
of made it bigger to fit
more edits in.
It really suits my
style, its not
boring! Its really
fun to look at!
13. Its totally different from
your front cover and
contents, which is sort of
out of place, even though
its still weird with the edit
and its cool but its still a
bit out of place.
Its really simple which
is neat and tidy.
I like your
headline, it
comes up the up
which is nice.
Its nice
because its
clear and
simple.
Its really different and
mature unlike the rest of
your product.
You really challenged the
conventions of a magazine
double spread.
14. I am really pleased with what I have created my front cover and my contents page go really well together. I think I
really improved my skills using technology and creative skills.
It would have been better if I carried out the same theme from my front cover and contents page unto my double
page spread because it seems out of place.
In addition both the contents page and double page spread have something quirky, and weird however my front
cover is more serious then them. Which I should have taken into consideration when refining my product.
However I am still very happy with my music
magazine. I think each page is exciting with its own
uniqueness and exciting creativity.
If I was to re-do this I would re-do my double page
spread and make it more like my front cover and
contents page.
