Research
Research Introduction
• For my research I am going to look at a wide range of examples where I can judge what my
audience likes and dislikes, What my target audience is. I will also look at what features reoccur in
these examples to have a knowledge of the main features that attract their audiences.
• I will mainly look at Instagram pages that create formula one graphic design edits and look what
examples are more successful than others and find out why these are more successful. This could
be down to the driver that it is on, the team the edit is on, the colours, the theme, if its more
complex or simple, it could be down to multiple reasons.
• Looking at these Instagram pages will be the main focus of my research and as well as looking at
the accounts I will talk to the people behind the accounts in interviews to get an understanding of
what they go for and what they like when making their edits.
• Another thing I will be looking at is exhibitions and their branding for these exhibitions. This will
help me gather a further understanding on how to lay out my exhibition and branding to appeal
to my audience.
• The final thing I will do is create my own pieces of work and show my audience them in interviews
and ask them what they like, dislike and what they would add to the edit. This will help me gain
information on what features my audience like and interviewing multiple people will help me find
trends in their answers.

• This Instagram page works on sport edits. These sports range from
Basketball, American football and Formula One. This account has
gained a mass following of supporters (2000+) and gains a lot of likes
on each and every post.
• The account creates clean sports edits of your favourite athletes in
professional grade environments.
• For this account I am going to look at the formula one edits for the
purpose of my work as I am going to making my edits of formula one
drivers, teams, events throughout history.

Instagram page 1 - Crartworks
• As you can see from this page, they make very professional edits of Formula One
driver and teams. Looking at these edits will give me inspiration for my own edits
and I will take parts of each edit across every account to put into my own.
• These edits have features such as, driver, car and text of the team or driver name.
These features are common across every piece of work that these accounts
create and are good ways to dictate a certain theme or even portray information
to their audiences.
• Crartworks is successful for their edits that use simplistic features and shapes.
These can be seen in their Lando Norris, Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly edits.
These edits are very successful on their page compared to their other edits and
this gives me the impression that the audience enjoys more simplistic designs
over more hectic designs. This can be down to the fact simplistic designs give a
more modern feel to the edits and this be attractive to a younger audience.
Crartworks - Text
Text is a huge part of graphic design and definitely a
huge part of these formula one edits as it’s the best way
to portray information to their audiences. I will use text
throughout my edits to give the audience information
on the events the edit is based on. This can be about,
the track, year, driver or team the edit is on.
This account uses very simplistic fonts and text in their
edits. This can be down to the fact that the most
successful edits they do are the simplistic ones and the
use of simple fonts can appeal to their target audience.
The account uses the official formula one font as well.
The audience recognises this font in his work and helps
them gain interested in the work. I will try and use the
official formula one font in my modern pieces to help
younger audiences find something they recognise in the
edits.
Crartworks - Images
Finding good images for edits is key as this is the main part
where eyes are going to. Images have to be high quality
and also have the potential to fit in the environment that
you are planning on putting them in. Another key part of
images in finding images that express the mood of the
page, with a more serious and dark page you will want to
have to find images of drivers in a serious mood or even
have their helmet, this will help set the tone. This also goes
the other way around, if you are planning on having a
bright edit you will want to have an image that has lots of
bright colours and people who have positive emotions.
This account chooses the right images that portray the
right emotions for each page. For example for the Daniel
Ricciardo edit, the images show off the bright highlights
and the picture Daniel has him smiling.
Instagram Pages - TLDesign
• This account is one of my favourites on Instagram. This account mainly
focuses on Formula One edits and is one of the main accounts I will take
influence from for my look book.
• This account has an abundance of Formula One edits with different
themes, drivers and era’s.
• This account is popular over the Formula One community as it has a
following of 3000+ and an average 800 likes across their posts.
• Again this is the account I am going to take a huge influence from going
into my production, the edits are incredible and have a huge amount of
detail.
• The owner of this account has helped me a huge amount in my own
graphic design journey and has explained to me that he usually has about
80 layers in each edit which shows you how much detail is in these edits.
Instagram Page - TLDesign
1142 Likes 1171 Likes 736 Likes
Instagram Page - TLDesign
• Again, you can see the amount of detail and work that goes into these
designs and you can see why this account is so successful with their effort
that goes into this graphic design work. I will be looking at trying to
replicate this kind of detail and work into my look book into my own edits.
• TLDesign has edits that incorporate a wide range of drivers, teams, themes
and era’s. His edits range from a 1980’s Senna glitch edits to, 2020 Max
Verstappen Jungle edits.
• TLDesign’s account focuses on unique and high quality edits that stand out
from the other graphic design Formula One pages on Instagram. His edits
stand out even on his page. No two edits are the same and I think this is a
very good skill to have and I need to learn for my look book.
Instagram – TLDesign - Text
Again, like I said in the previous analysis, text is a major part of graphic
design and is key to present information to your audience or an
outside audience. The text needs to be the right font to set the mood,
needs to have colours that blend into the environment like the Senna
edit (bottom right) or stand out like the Daniel Ricciardo edit (middle
right). The text needs to be the right size, shape. The text is an
incredibly underrated and misjudged part of graphic design from an
outside perspective.
For my look book edits, text needs to be key to set the mood in each
edit. Each font needs to be perfect and needs to fit the tone that I am
trying to achieve on each page. Each page is unique and so is each
topic or theme of the page. Text needs to have some sort of reference
to the driver, theme or team otherwise it doesn’t fit and your
audience will notice.
Looking at these designs gives me a huge amount of ideas for text for
each and every page of my look book and I these pages will be a huge
inspiration for my look book
Instagram Page – TLDesign - Textures
Textures, just like text, is a major part of making a graphic design
edit unique and successful. Editors rely on textures mainly set
the mood of each page and help apply a certain effect to pages.
These textures can range from, rain, grain, paper etc. textures
are key for turning a basic looking page to a great looking page
As you can see on the right, this Gilles Villeneuve edit has
grainy/paper texture which gives it the effect of it being old and
really sets the mood for the whole page. The texture fits with
the car and driver as they’re from the 1970’s and an outside
audience can identify this as the texture helps give off that
effect.
Textures will be a huge part of my look book and will help me
create unique designs and mainly help me create certain moods
and effects on the pages.
Instagram Page – TLDesign - Information
• In terms of information it is hard to display a lot
of information in a stylish way in edits. But in
TLDesign’s edits they portray information is an
organised and aesthetically pleasing way. The
information is organised and is set out to look
very good. The use of information help outside
audiences understand who the edit is about
and what they achieved in their career. It can
also help your audience understand the edit
too if they don’t know about a certain driver.
• I will use information in some of my edits,
mainly about the older edits as some of the
younger audiences wont understand who the
driver is and putting career achievements will
help them understand why the driver or team
is an icon of the sport.
Instagram Page - Rfelctionart
• Rflectionart is a unique account on Instagram and goes for a different
aesthetic compared to the other accounts I have looked at.
• This account goes for a more modern style for their edits, using isometric
shapes, clean and bright colours and using shadows give the edits a clean
and crisp look which is what the account is going for.
• You can see the influence of minimalist design within the accounts work as
they use little elements within their work and combining this with the
clean and smooth colours gives off a modern vibe with these edits.
• I will take a good amount of influence from this account as they are unique
in their own way and I think taking this simple concept into my work will be
a good technique to have, especially when I want to use helmet and
Formula One liveries as the main theme for the look book and using little
components will help the aesthetic.
Instagram Page - Rfelctionart
Instagram Page – Rflectionart - Text
Text in these sort of designs is incredibly important. Manipulation of the
text is key to make the text feel a part of the page. Its especially
important in these sort of simple and minimalist designs as the text is
going to be one of the main features on the design and you need to
decide what information you want to display. This can be driver number,
manufacturer, driver name. These choices are overlooked by an outside
audience, but I know how important it is.
Having this knowledge I will take a huge amount of influence from this
account/page as their choice of font and information fits the aesthetic
they are going for. Using this influence I will use the same sort of design
with minimal text to make my edits feel simple and clean otherwise the
design page feels too cluttered and messy.
Instagram Page – Rflectionart - Shapes
Shapes can be a really effective part of graphic design edits. They can really
set the tone of the page, they can also help guide the readers around the
page. Using shapes for the background is an easy way to create a setting
too.
Rflectionart uses shaped in their edits in a really effective way to create
depth, guide your eyes around the page and also set the tone of the page.
They use bright colours on isometric shapes to create a clean and
sophisticated look on their backgrounds and floors for the formula one cars
to sit on. This is all about the aesthetic Rflectionart is iconic for. Their
simplistic art style relies on these shapes to create a theme.
Shapes on Formula One edits can be more important than any other edit as
they can simulate a moving motion, as you can see in the top example the
lines are skewed to the side to compliment the movement of the car.
I will take inspirations from Rflectionart’s simple designs in my own way, I
think less is more and his edits back up that theory.
Audience Profiling
Audience
Ever since lockdown started last year, I decided to start up an Instagram to
try and improve my photoshop work. I have been very successful with this
and have gained a decent following of 309 followers and I have a decent
amount of likes on each post.
This has helped my photoshop work and also helped me understand what
my audience is going into this project as Instagram gives you insights into the
information about your audience, such as Age, Location, Gender.
This will help me determine what my target audience is as the content have
been making for my Instagram is the same for the look book I will create for
my FMP
On top of looking at my Instagram page I will look at external information to
back up my audience inforamtion
Instagram Content - Examples
Audience - Age
Instagram has gathered that 48.1% of my audience is
between the ages of 18-24. This is good as I am within that
age bracket. Being of that age I know what they like and its
most likely what I think looks good they will think will look
good.
My secondary age is 25-34 which is at 27%, this is useful as
it tells me that I have a mature audience that enjoys my
content. I will take this into consideration when making my
content and I will include informational content to appeal
to this higher end of the age bracket.
I will be using lots of features from my popular Instagram
posts to try and appeal to my target audience. Looking at
what is unique in that post and try and adapt that feature
in a new way in my new look book content so they like
that too.
I will be looking at what 18-19 year olds like as I believe
that is the best age to look at and find what they enjoy
Audience Research - Age
18-19 Year Olds:
My audience is going to be young adults. The reason
for this is as this is where I am as a person right now. I
think having my audience as my age is very helpful as I
know what people my age like. For example, what
drivers, colours and features etc. they like.
With this graph I can see that 19% of teenagers on
average spend 274 total minutes on educations.
Taking this information, I will try and have elements of
information in my look book. For example, I can have
fact files about the driver under their edit telling the
audience what those drivers or cars achieved while
their time in the league.
Audience - Age
18-19 Year Olds:
From my experience I know that most people my age
spend their time on screens or using technology.
This graph also backs up this statement. This graph
shows that 30% of teenagers said that one of their
hobbies is using technology/computers.
To appeal to my target audience I will try and link
Instagram accounts at the back of the look book to
try and help audience stay within the world of
Formula One edits.
Audience - Age
18-19 Year Olds:
Using the same data, I can see that 47% of teenagers
around the age of my audience enjoy reading/writing
as a hobby.
Again using this information with the fact that my
audience spend 19% of their day on education I will
include information about the drivers and cars that I
decide to do edits on.
I will also do this underneath the pieces in the
exhibition to help outside audiences understand the
significance of the drivers and cars and their impact
on the history of Formula One.
Audience - Age
18-19 Year Olds:
This graph shows the most used media from
adults from the ages 16 to 75+.
My age range spends most of their time on their
smartphone. My media will be in the form of a
look book and will come under the ‘read
newspaper/magazines. This is the least used
media within my age range.
To make my magazine appeal to my target
audience, I will use little information. Magazines
and newspapers are bundled full of information
and younger audiences aren’t interested in that
sort of media and want to look at something
aesthetically pleasing. This will help look book
appeal to my target audience.
Audience - Gender
Males:
This graph shows us information about the average
earnings of each gender and at each age. My project is
going to be aimed towards the male gender. The
highest average earning age for males is 55-64 year
olds, and the lowest earning age is 16-19 years olds.
This graph also shows that males on average earn more
than females, this means my look book will be aimed at
the ABC1 group of people.
To appeal to that group of people I will include a good
amount of information within the book to appeal to
their needs to learn and gain knowledge.
Audience - Gender
Males:
This chart shows the preferred colours by each gender.
The difference between males and females in little as
their main preferred colours are blue, green and red.
However, the % of colours preferred within the genders
is very different.
Looking at this data I will be trying to focus on those
colours and try and implement them into my edits over
other colours to appeal to my target audiences needs
with their favourite colours.
My audience is males so I will be using colours like
Blues, Greens and Reds, as these are there preferred
colours within that gender group
Audience - Psychographic
Achiever:
This data shows the average earnings of both males and
females within my target audiences age, these are some of
the lowest earners out of all the age ranges.
My audience being the lowest will want to be inspired to
achieve in their future life and will be looking for inspiration
in every bit of content they read or watch.
I will put information about the most successful drivers in
the sport of formula one near the edits, these will include a
brief about their career and any problems they had to
overcome and this will appeal to my audience of achievers
as they want to be inspired
Audience – Pyschographic
Achiever:
This data shows the increase of the amount of
people attending university each year.
My audience of achievers will fall into this category
of people, they want to achieve the best possible
career so they will be attending university.
Including inspirational content for these students
will be key to appeal to their needs. So again, I will
be displaying drivers struggles with their
achievements to inspire my audience to achieve.
Audience - Geodemographic
My geodemographic will be people from Britain.
This data from my Instagram shows me that my
audience is mainly from the United Kingdom.
Having this audience will help me as I am apart of
that demographic. Adapting my audience to meet
their needs will be easy.
I will include British driver such as, Hamilton, Hill,
Mansell and many more. This will also give my
ABC1 audience the role models that they are
looking to have.
My secondary audiences are countries such as,
Brazil, Italy and the United States. To appeal to
these audiences too I will include Brazilian driver
Senna and many Italian drivers like Ascari.
Interviews and Surveys
Survey – First Question
This question was always going to be my first in
this survey, this is a question that can reinforce my
results. Getting to know your audience is key in
these surveys.
This question was to find out if my audience was
up to date with the sport of Formula One and this
helps me know that the responses in the later
questions are genuine as I know they watch every
race and that they will be honest with their
answers.
Survey – Question 2
This question was all about trying to see what
decade of cars my audience liked the most so I can
adapt my focus of my product to cater to their
needs.
Seeing that 80% of my audience like the present
day cars the most will make me focus more on
modern content and themes, so I will make edits
of modern cars and drivers to appeal to that part
of the audience.
However, 20% of the audience says they enjoy
2000’s cars the most, looking at this will adapt my
product too. I am going have a few bits on 2000’s
cars so this part of my audience is pleased but my
main focus will be modern cars
Survey – Question 3
This question was to find out more detail about my audience and see why they liked that decade of cars.
Again, making my picture of the audience better and helping my be able to cater to their needs further as I
have more detail on their opinions and aesthetic needs.
40% of my audience said they enjoyed that decade of cars for their aesthetic features, this is positive for me
as when I use these cars in my edits it will add more aesthetic enjoyment to my audience and will appeal to
their needs.
The other 60% said they enjoyed the cars for other reasons that don’t apply to my project, such as ‘close
racing’ etc.
Survey – Question 4
Again like the decade question this will help me find who or what to do my edit on. Having this understanding of what
my audience likes and helps me alter my project to try and appeal to their needs more.
66% of my audience said their favourite driver was either Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton. Looking at these results
helps me know that I need to use these drivers over other ones as it will get the most enjoyment from my audience as
the majority of the results were stating that those two were their favourite
Other results include; Senna, Charles Leclerc and Daniel Ricciardo. These will also be included in my project as my
audience also likes these drivers and to achieve the most in audience satisfaction I need to include all ideas.
Survey – Question 5
This question was very useful to me as it is a
directly asking what my audience prefers and
it influences the product more than the other
questions.
The results show that my audience enjoys
aesthetic pieces of work as much as
informational.
This will influence my product as I will include
a good amount of information on the drivers
or cars I do aesthetic pieces on. Having this
50/50 split doesn’t help my understanding of
my audience. However, this gives me more
freedom to include whatever I want in
regards to information and aesthetic work
Survey – Question 6
This question helps me understand what will
aesthetically please my audience the most, finding
what colours to use is key as it can influence the
mood of the edit and can convert a theme or idea.
From this survey I can see 80% of my audience
prefer cold colours such and blue, green and
purple when looking at aesthetic work. This will
influence my work and I will include these colours
in contrasting ways to appeal to the majority of my
audience.
However, 20% of my audience enjoy warm colours
such as red, yellow and orange. These will be used
in my work but not as much as the cold colours
that the majority of my audience enjoy
Survey – Question 7
This question paired with asking them why was the final question of the survey, this is just to find out another
feature of the edit I will be doing that should be changed. However, in contrast to the driver question these
answers are based of aesthetic opinions as cars are enjoyed and idolised when they look good. This could be
down to shape or livery design.
50% of my audience stated that they like the Red Bull the most, this will be used with the pairing of Max
Verstappen who was tied for the favourite driver question. This pairing will be the most favoured as both
answers were highest out of the two questions. This car is also used cold colours in contrast to warm colours
which backs up the results from the colour question.
Other answers include, 2005 Renault and 1988 McLaren. These cars will be used with their driver in that year to
create a retro design and give the people who like these cars a nostalgia trip.

Research

  • 2. Research Introduction • For my research I am going to look at a wide range of examples where I can judge what my audience likes and dislikes, What my target audience is. I will also look at what features reoccur in these examples to have a knowledge of the main features that attract their audiences. • I will mainly look at Instagram pages that create formula one graphic design edits and look what examples are more successful than others and find out why these are more successful. This could be down to the driver that it is on, the team the edit is on, the colours, the theme, if its more complex or simple, it could be down to multiple reasons. • Looking at these Instagram pages will be the main focus of my research and as well as looking at the accounts I will talk to the people behind the accounts in interviews to get an understanding of what they go for and what they like when making their edits. • Another thing I will be looking at is exhibitions and their branding for these exhibitions. This will help me gather a further understanding on how to lay out my exhibition and branding to appeal to my audience. • The final thing I will do is create my own pieces of work and show my audience them in interviews and ask them what they like, dislike and what they would add to the edit. This will help me gain information on what features my audience like and interviewing multiple people will help me find trends in their answers.
  • 3. Instagram Page 1 - Crartwork • This Instagram page works on sport edits. These sports range from Basketball, American football and Formula One. This account has gained a mass following of supporters (2000+) and gains a lot of likes on each and every post. • The account creates clean sports edits of your favourite athletes in professional grade environments. • For this account I am going to look at the formula one edits for the purpose of my work as I am going to making my edits of formula one drivers, teams, events throughout history.
  • 4. Instagram Page 1 – Crartwork – Examples 278 likes 356 likes 596 likes
  • 5. Instagram page 1 - Crartworks • As you can see from this page, they make very professional edits of Formula One driver and teams. Looking at these edits will give me inspiration for my own edits and I will take parts of each edit across every account to put into my own. • These edits have features such as, driver, car and text of the team or driver name. These features are common across every piece of work that these accounts create and are good ways to dictate a certain theme or even portray information to their audiences. • Crartworks is successful for their edits that use simplistic features and shapes. These can be seen in their Lando Norris, Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly edits. These edits are very successful on their page compared to their other edits and this gives me the impression that the audience enjoys more simplistic designs over more hectic designs. This can be down to the fact simplistic designs give a more modern feel to the edits and this be attractive to a younger audience.
  • 6. Crartworks - Text Text is a huge part of graphic design and definitely a huge part of these formula one edits as it’s the best way to portray information to their audiences. I will use text throughout my edits to give the audience information on the events the edit is based on. This can be about, the track, year, driver or team the edit is on. This account uses very simplistic fonts and text in their edits. This can be down to the fact that the most successful edits they do are the simplistic ones and the use of simple fonts can appeal to their target audience. The account uses the official formula one font as well. The audience recognises this font in his work and helps them gain interested in the work. I will try and use the official formula one font in my modern pieces to help younger audiences find something they recognise in the edits.
  • 7. Crartworks - Images Finding good images for edits is key as this is the main part where eyes are going to. Images have to be high quality and also have the potential to fit in the environment that you are planning on putting them in. Another key part of images in finding images that express the mood of the page, with a more serious and dark page you will want to have to find images of drivers in a serious mood or even have their helmet, this will help set the tone. This also goes the other way around, if you are planning on having a bright edit you will want to have an image that has lots of bright colours and people who have positive emotions. This account chooses the right images that portray the right emotions for each page. For example for the Daniel Ricciardo edit, the images show off the bright highlights and the picture Daniel has him smiling.
  • 8. Instagram Pages - TLDesign • This account is one of my favourites on Instagram. This account mainly focuses on Formula One edits and is one of the main accounts I will take influence from for my look book. • This account has an abundance of Formula One edits with different themes, drivers and era’s. • This account is popular over the Formula One community as it has a following of 3000+ and an average 800 likes across their posts. • Again this is the account I am going to take a huge influence from going into my production, the edits are incredible and have a huge amount of detail. • The owner of this account has helped me a huge amount in my own graphic design journey and has explained to me that he usually has about 80 layers in each edit which shows you how much detail is in these edits.
  • 9. Instagram Page - TLDesign 1142 Likes 1171 Likes 736 Likes
  • 10. Instagram Page - TLDesign • Again, you can see the amount of detail and work that goes into these designs and you can see why this account is so successful with their effort that goes into this graphic design work. I will be looking at trying to replicate this kind of detail and work into my look book into my own edits. • TLDesign has edits that incorporate a wide range of drivers, teams, themes and era’s. His edits range from a 1980’s Senna glitch edits to, 2020 Max Verstappen Jungle edits. • TLDesign’s account focuses on unique and high quality edits that stand out from the other graphic design Formula One pages on Instagram. His edits stand out even on his page. No two edits are the same and I think this is a very good skill to have and I need to learn for my look book.
  • 11. Instagram – TLDesign - Text Again, like I said in the previous analysis, text is a major part of graphic design and is key to present information to your audience or an outside audience. The text needs to be the right font to set the mood, needs to have colours that blend into the environment like the Senna edit (bottom right) or stand out like the Daniel Ricciardo edit (middle right). The text needs to be the right size, shape. The text is an incredibly underrated and misjudged part of graphic design from an outside perspective. For my look book edits, text needs to be key to set the mood in each edit. Each font needs to be perfect and needs to fit the tone that I am trying to achieve on each page. Each page is unique and so is each topic or theme of the page. Text needs to have some sort of reference to the driver, theme or team otherwise it doesn’t fit and your audience will notice. Looking at these designs gives me a huge amount of ideas for text for each and every page of my look book and I these pages will be a huge inspiration for my look book
  • 12. Instagram Page – TLDesign - Textures Textures, just like text, is a major part of making a graphic design edit unique and successful. Editors rely on textures mainly set the mood of each page and help apply a certain effect to pages. These textures can range from, rain, grain, paper etc. textures are key for turning a basic looking page to a great looking page As you can see on the right, this Gilles Villeneuve edit has grainy/paper texture which gives it the effect of it being old and really sets the mood for the whole page. The texture fits with the car and driver as they’re from the 1970’s and an outside audience can identify this as the texture helps give off that effect. Textures will be a huge part of my look book and will help me create unique designs and mainly help me create certain moods and effects on the pages.
  • 13. Instagram Page – TLDesign - Information • In terms of information it is hard to display a lot of information in a stylish way in edits. But in TLDesign’s edits they portray information is an organised and aesthetically pleasing way. The information is organised and is set out to look very good. The use of information help outside audiences understand who the edit is about and what they achieved in their career. It can also help your audience understand the edit too if they don’t know about a certain driver. • I will use information in some of my edits, mainly about the older edits as some of the younger audiences wont understand who the driver is and putting career achievements will help them understand why the driver or team is an icon of the sport.
  • 14. Instagram Page - Rfelctionart • Rflectionart is a unique account on Instagram and goes for a different aesthetic compared to the other accounts I have looked at. • This account goes for a more modern style for their edits, using isometric shapes, clean and bright colours and using shadows give the edits a clean and crisp look which is what the account is going for. • You can see the influence of minimalist design within the accounts work as they use little elements within their work and combining this with the clean and smooth colours gives off a modern vibe with these edits. • I will take a good amount of influence from this account as they are unique in their own way and I think taking this simple concept into my work will be a good technique to have, especially when I want to use helmet and Formula One liveries as the main theme for the look book and using little components will help the aesthetic.
  • 15. Instagram Page - Rfelctionart
  • 16. Instagram Page – Rflectionart - Text Text in these sort of designs is incredibly important. Manipulation of the text is key to make the text feel a part of the page. Its especially important in these sort of simple and minimalist designs as the text is going to be one of the main features on the design and you need to decide what information you want to display. This can be driver number, manufacturer, driver name. These choices are overlooked by an outside audience, but I know how important it is. Having this knowledge I will take a huge amount of influence from this account/page as their choice of font and information fits the aesthetic they are going for. Using this influence I will use the same sort of design with minimal text to make my edits feel simple and clean otherwise the design page feels too cluttered and messy.
  • 17. Instagram Page – Rflectionart - Shapes Shapes can be a really effective part of graphic design edits. They can really set the tone of the page, they can also help guide the readers around the page. Using shapes for the background is an easy way to create a setting too. Rflectionart uses shaped in their edits in a really effective way to create depth, guide your eyes around the page and also set the tone of the page. They use bright colours on isometric shapes to create a clean and sophisticated look on their backgrounds and floors for the formula one cars to sit on. This is all about the aesthetic Rflectionart is iconic for. Their simplistic art style relies on these shapes to create a theme. Shapes on Formula One edits can be more important than any other edit as they can simulate a moving motion, as you can see in the top example the lines are skewed to the side to compliment the movement of the car. I will take inspirations from Rflectionart’s simple designs in my own way, I think less is more and his edits back up that theory.
  • 19. Audience Ever since lockdown started last year, I decided to start up an Instagram to try and improve my photoshop work. I have been very successful with this and have gained a decent following of 309 followers and I have a decent amount of likes on each post. This has helped my photoshop work and also helped me understand what my audience is going into this project as Instagram gives you insights into the information about your audience, such as Age, Location, Gender. This will help me determine what my target audience is as the content have been making for my Instagram is the same for the look book I will create for my FMP On top of looking at my Instagram page I will look at external information to back up my audience inforamtion
  • 21. Audience - Age Instagram has gathered that 48.1% of my audience is between the ages of 18-24. This is good as I am within that age bracket. Being of that age I know what they like and its most likely what I think looks good they will think will look good. My secondary age is 25-34 which is at 27%, this is useful as it tells me that I have a mature audience that enjoys my content. I will take this into consideration when making my content and I will include informational content to appeal to this higher end of the age bracket. I will be using lots of features from my popular Instagram posts to try and appeal to my target audience. Looking at what is unique in that post and try and adapt that feature in a new way in my new look book content so they like that too. I will be looking at what 18-19 year olds like as I believe that is the best age to look at and find what they enjoy
  • 22. Audience Research - Age 18-19 Year Olds: My audience is going to be young adults. The reason for this is as this is where I am as a person right now. I think having my audience as my age is very helpful as I know what people my age like. For example, what drivers, colours and features etc. they like. With this graph I can see that 19% of teenagers on average spend 274 total minutes on educations. Taking this information, I will try and have elements of information in my look book. For example, I can have fact files about the driver under their edit telling the audience what those drivers or cars achieved while their time in the league.
  • 23. Audience - Age 18-19 Year Olds: From my experience I know that most people my age spend their time on screens or using technology. This graph also backs up this statement. This graph shows that 30% of teenagers said that one of their hobbies is using technology/computers. To appeal to my target audience I will try and link Instagram accounts at the back of the look book to try and help audience stay within the world of Formula One edits.
  • 24. Audience - Age 18-19 Year Olds: Using the same data, I can see that 47% of teenagers around the age of my audience enjoy reading/writing as a hobby. Again using this information with the fact that my audience spend 19% of their day on education I will include information about the drivers and cars that I decide to do edits on. I will also do this underneath the pieces in the exhibition to help outside audiences understand the significance of the drivers and cars and their impact on the history of Formula One.
  • 25. Audience - Age 18-19 Year Olds: This graph shows the most used media from adults from the ages 16 to 75+. My age range spends most of their time on their smartphone. My media will be in the form of a look book and will come under the ‘read newspaper/magazines. This is the least used media within my age range. To make my magazine appeal to my target audience, I will use little information. Magazines and newspapers are bundled full of information and younger audiences aren’t interested in that sort of media and want to look at something aesthetically pleasing. This will help look book appeal to my target audience.
  • 26. Audience - Gender Males: This graph shows us information about the average earnings of each gender and at each age. My project is going to be aimed towards the male gender. The highest average earning age for males is 55-64 year olds, and the lowest earning age is 16-19 years olds. This graph also shows that males on average earn more than females, this means my look book will be aimed at the ABC1 group of people. To appeal to that group of people I will include a good amount of information within the book to appeal to their needs to learn and gain knowledge.
  • 27. Audience - Gender Males: This chart shows the preferred colours by each gender. The difference between males and females in little as their main preferred colours are blue, green and red. However, the % of colours preferred within the genders is very different. Looking at this data I will be trying to focus on those colours and try and implement them into my edits over other colours to appeal to my target audiences needs with their favourite colours. My audience is males so I will be using colours like Blues, Greens and Reds, as these are there preferred colours within that gender group
  • 28. Audience - Psychographic Achiever: This data shows the average earnings of both males and females within my target audiences age, these are some of the lowest earners out of all the age ranges. My audience being the lowest will want to be inspired to achieve in their future life and will be looking for inspiration in every bit of content they read or watch. I will put information about the most successful drivers in the sport of formula one near the edits, these will include a brief about their career and any problems they had to overcome and this will appeal to my audience of achievers as they want to be inspired
  • 29. Audience – Pyschographic Achiever: This data shows the increase of the amount of people attending university each year. My audience of achievers will fall into this category of people, they want to achieve the best possible career so they will be attending university. Including inspirational content for these students will be key to appeal to their needs. So again, I will be displaying drivers struggles with their achievements to inspire my audience to achieve.
  • 30. Audience - Geodemographic My geodemographic will be people from Britain. This data from my Instagram shows me that my audience is mainly from the United Kingdom. Having this audience will help me as I am apart of that demographic. Adapting my audience to meet their needs will be easy. I will include British driver such as, Hamilton, Hill, Mansell and many more. This will also give my ABC1 audience the role models that they are looking to have. My secondary audiences are countries such as, Brazil, Italy and the United States. To appeal to these audiences too I will include Brazilian driver Senna and many Italian drivers like Ascari.
  • 32. Survey – First Question This question was always going to be my first in this survey, this is a question that can reinforce my results. Getting to know your audience is key in these surveys. This question was to find out if my audience was up to date with the sport of Formula One and this helps me know that the responses in the later questions are genuine as I know they watch every race and that they will be honest with their answers.
  • 33. Survey – Question 2 This question was all about trying to see what decade of cars my audience liked the most so I can adapt my focus of my product to cater to their needs. Seeing that 80% of my audience like the present day cars the most will make me focus more on modern content and themes, so I will make edits of modern cars and drivers to appeal to that part of the audience. However, 20% of the audience says they enjoy 2000’s cars the most, looking at this will adapt my product too. I am going have a few bits on 2000’s cars so this part of my audience is pleased but my main focus will be modern cars
  • 34. Survey – Question 3 This question was to find out more detail about my audience and see why they liked that decade of cars. Again, making my picture of the audience better and helping my be able to cater to their needs further as I have more detail on their opinions and aesthetic needs. 40% of my audience said they enjoyed that decade of cars for their aesthetic features, this is positive for me as when I use these cars in my edits it will add more aesthetic enjoyment to my audience and will appeal to their needs. The other 60% said they enjoyed the cars for other reasons that don’t apply to my project, such as ‘close racing’ etc.
  • 35. Survey – Question 4 Again like the decade question this will help me find who or what to do my edit on. Having this understanding of what my audience likes and helps me alter my project to try and appeal to their needs more. 66% of my audience said their favourite driver was either Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton. Looking at these results helps me know that I need to use these drivers over other ones as it will get the most enjoyment from my audience as the majority of the results were stating that those two were their favourite Other results include; Senna, Charles Leclerc and Daniel Ricciardo. These will also be included in my project as my audience also likes these drivers and to achieve the most in audience satisfaction I need to include all ideas.
  • 36. Survey – Question 5 This question was very useful to me as it is a directly asking what my audience prefers and it influences the product more than the other questions. The results show that my audience enjoys aesthetic pieces of work as much as informational. This will influence my product as I will include a good amount of information on the drivers or cars I do aesthetic pieces on. Having this 50/50 split doesn’t help my understanding of my audience. However, this gives me more freedom to include whatever I want in regards to information and aesthetic work
  • 37. Survey – Question 6 This question helps me understand what will aesthetically please my audience the most, finding what colours to use is key as it can influence the mood of the edit and can convert a theme or idea. From this survey I can see 80% of my audience prefer cold colours such and blue, green and purple when looking at aesthetic work. This will influence my work and I will include these colours in contrasting ways to appeal to the majority of my audience. However, 20% of my audience enjoy warm colours such as red, yellow and orange. These will be used in my work but not as much as the cold colours that the majority of my audience enjoy
  • 38. Survey – Question 7 This question paired with asking them why was the final question of the survey, this is just to find out another feature of the edit I will be doing that should be changed. However, in contrast to the driver question these answers are based of aesthetic opinions as cars are enjoyed and idolised when they look good. This could be down to shape or livery design. 50% of my audience stated that they like the Red Bull the most, this will be used with the pairing of Max Verstappen who was tied for the favourite driver question. This pairing will be the most favoured as both answers were highest out of the two questions. This car is also used cold colours in contrast to warm colours which backs up the results from the colour question. Other answers include, 2005 Renault and 1988 McLaren. These cars will be used with their driver in that year to create a retro design and give the people who like these cars a nostalgia trip.
