2. Evaluation – Introduction
With this Powerpoint I will be going through each stage of the FMP and
describe what I have done and what went well and what didn’t. Each stage
took a lot of time to plan and work on and I think there are a lot of
improvements that can be made to this project and with this evaluation I will
go through the ins and out of each stage of the FMP.
Some parts of the FMP I felt that went better than others for example the
Production was one of the best parts of the FMP. However, parts like the
research was very tough to work on for how I was wanting to take the
production.
Overall, I think the whole project went smoothly and I think the whole
project was very successful. Some parts didn’t go as planned but most of the
project went how I planned.
3. Evaluation - Pre-proposal/proposal
These parts of the project went smoothly and went very well as I had a very
good idea on what I wanted to make before the project had come up.
I think the main strength of these parts of the project was going through the
inspirations that I had chosen. Throughout summer I had created a graphic
design Instagram and had also discovered a lot of other graphic designers on
the platform, and these were easily my inspirations for this project. Going
through their work and picking out what was successful in their work was
another strength of my pre-proposal.
I think a weakness of my pre-proposal was trying to describe what the
project meant to me and trying to find what mood/style etc. I wanted to
portray in this production project. Trying to find a style I wanted to base my
look book around. In the end I decided on a various amount of designs from
rotoscoping and then to more poster style fantasy work.
5. Evaluation – Pre-proposal/Proposal
With the proposal it was about describing what my idea was for my FMP and
what sort of designs I was preparing to make for this project and how I was
going to approach this FMP project.
I think the main strength was the same as the pre-proposal, where
describing what my design and overall plan was for the project. Going
through each step and seeing what I wanted to make and what sort of things
I would include to help reach my target audience.
I think the main weakness of this piece of work was the word count aspect,
keeping my ideas restricted to a certain word count was a challenge. I think
another weakness was also trying to create a realistic amount of work for
myself as I think with the restriction of weeks in college and the deadline
getting cut back my original plan was very unrealistic.
6. Evaluation – Contextual Research
With this part of the FMP I needed to look into famous figures in the graphic
design field and look into their work and see what makes them unique and
what I can take from their work and put into my own.
I think the main strength of this piece of work was my research on these
famous people in the graphic design field. I think I went into a great amount
of detail on these people. Putting this much research into these people gave
me a huge advantage in my production part of the product as it gave me
more ideas and helped me to be more expressive in my work.
One weakness about this work i think was trying to implement some of these
influences work into my own and explaining how they would be an influence
to me as I think I took influence from other things and mainly from my own
unique ideas in the past rather than these famous people
7. Evaluation - Research
This part of the FMP was the biggest and most important part. With this part of the
FMP I investigated target audience profiling by looking at my Instagram data and
seeing where my audience comes from, what their age is and what my most liked
pictures are. I also investigated other Instagram pages and looked into what colours
and features they use to attract their audience which would be similar to my own
audience that I was planning on targeting.
I think the main strength of this part of the FMP was the audience profiling. Going
through my graphic design Instagram data on my audience really helped me narrow
down my audience and really see what my audience is in a passive and unique way.
I think a weakness of research was the surveys, I think I struggled with the survey
as I didn’t know what I wanted to know and the questions I asked were very vague
and didn’t give me much information in the end and at the end of the day this
survey wasn’t very useful
8. Evaluation - Experiments
With my experiments I went through techniques I was going to use in my
production and these techniques included, rotoscoping and using hue and
saturation layers to dictate layers on certain objects.
The main strength of this piece of work was the fact that I mastered the
techniques I was wanting to replicate in my production. Using this time to
practice and experiment on the techniques I wanted to use in my production.
Taking the time to perfect these techniques hugely benefits the whole
production of the project.
The main weakness of the experiments was finding what techniques I could
use in my work that I haven’t used before or know how to use. I think if I had
more time I could have found more techniques to use and try and intergrate
them into my work
10. Evaluation – Production – Rotoscopes
These rotoscope pages were going to be the main filler to the look book.
These pages were easy to make but also gave the look book a good aesthetic
feeling. Overall, these pages were a huge success as they came out looking
good and they all worked well in cohesion with each other as they work well
when paired together.
The main success from these rotoscope pages were the livery designs, these
pages I think look the best out of the rotoscopes I made. The pastel-colored
background with the simplified liveries look good together.
I think if I had more time with this project I would try and experiment with
other parts of formula one and try and rotoscope faces or try and animate
cars driving with rotoscopes.
12. Evaluation – Production – Retro Designs
These retro designs were my favorite to make out of all the pages in this
project. I think these pages have a cool modern twist on a old 80’s retro
vaporwave theme. The text in the background give the whole page a cool
filler for a background and makes the page also have a sense of disruption
around the page.
I think the main success for these pages were the use of lighting on the car
and the driver. Using hue and saturation layers I created light on the left and
right of the driver and car. This made the page look even better as this made
the car and driver look like they are in that environment and overall made
the aesthetic I was going for look really good.
If I had more time on this project, I would have focused on adding more retro
feel to these pages as that was the aim for these. Is to have a retro design
with a modern twist.
13. Evaluation – Production – Hamilton Design
With this page I wanted to create something unique to the other
pages I have been making so I decided to make something where I
take and image, cut it out and try and manipulate the environment
around that image. With this image I cut out a picture of Lewis
Hamilton and decided to create a fantasy space poster.
I think the main success from this was the way I created the
environment by using stock photos. Using features like hue and
saturation layers, color look up and other things like camera raw
filter made this poster even better.
I think if I had a bit more time I would try and improve the lighting
on the driver and sort out the lighting on the car as I feel like the
car could be a lot darker to fit the environment I was trying to
make
14. Evaluation – Production – Leclerc Design
With this page I wanted to create something simple using text
effects and hue and saturation layers. I decided to create this
Charles Leclerc page where I used hue and saturation layers to
create a two-tone page. Using red and blue makes the page have
a good balance between cold and warm colors and I think that
works very well on this page. For the text I used the exclusion
effect to make it have this contrast effect with the image behind
and I think this looks very good.
I think the main success of this page was the simplicity of it. With
many complex pages with the retro designs and the Hamilton
page I think this page has the perfect balance between the two
types of pages
I think if I had more time I would have developed this page more
to try and add more features and maybe done another driver with
new colours
