This document summarizes control strategies for wheat stripe rust in Ethiopia. It notes that wheat is a major staple crop for the country, but production has been negatively impacted by recurrent rust epidemics. Control strategies implemented in Ethiopia include fast deployment of resistant varieties, awareness campaigns, disease surveillance, fungicide use, and strengthened international collaboration. Breeding efforts focus on developing varieties with durable rust resistance suited to Ethiopia's agro-ecological zones. Rapid seed multiplication and distribution are also used to disseminate new varieties. These coordinated efforts have helped reduce losses from recent rust outbreaks compared to past epidemics.
