When Life Begins
One of the first medical issues arises from the question of when an embryo is
considered alive. We have laws in society that protect life. However, we don t
always consider an embryo to be a living thing. It is currently a hot topic of
discussion whether or not to allow and use stem cells taken from embryos. The fact
that cells must come from women also raises ethical questions concerning therapeutic
cloningas this can lead to the exploitation of women. Many people also believe that
such technology is unnatural and similar to taking nature in your own hand.
Creating clones for the production of transplantable organs is another issue. People
believe that we may use clones in an inhuman manner. They feel that we will clone
humans in order to use them for their organs, and when we no longer need them, we
will kill them off. Because the clones will be providing us with the source of
transplantable organs, this may result in enslaving of clones and illegal marketing of
organs as well as violating the rights of these cloned people. As cloning technology
improves, more and more applications are being seen in everyday life. The
implications of cloning in medical science can range from cloning genetically pure
organs for human transplantation to using cloned animals to produce pharmaceutical
agents. RK
Cloning could have legal implications as well. A cloned child who has multiple
donors might complicate parental right issues as well inheritance and marital
eligibility issues, and
The Impacts ofTransnational Corporations on Less...
The issue of the impacts transnational corporations have on less developed countries
has been a controversial and much disputed subject within the field of economics and
development studies. Researchers using various models such as the Rostow
Development model, Harrod Domar model and the Neoclassical Theory Model, have
studied these impacts and have tried to come to a conclusion to this issue.
Researchers have also conducted many case studies in order to investigate in depth
factors contributing to impacts and whether there are differences due to external
factors. The issue has grown in importance over the last decade and this paper
attempts to discover whether the impacts are beneficial enough in order to uphold

Literature Review
In order to examine whether economic development can be accelerated in low
developed countries it important to define and identify the characteristics of
Economic Development. Economic development is significantly more advanced than
economic growth. It is more relevant to measuring improvements in the quality of life
in developing nations. Economic development is also concerned with literacy rates,
life expectancy, poverty rates and structural changes in the economy.
According to Todaro Smith 2011, Economic Development can be specified into
three objectives of development. The first is Sustaining Goods and Services ; this
objective is the increase in supply of goods and services, which also widens the
distribution of basic needs such as food shelter, health and protection. The second is
An Increase in Income ; this objective is to increase the standard of living, jobs,
improved education and better attention to cultural values. All these factors enhance
material well being, individual and national self esteem. The third and final is the
Freedom to Make Economic and Social Choices , this objective is to increase the
range of economic opportunities available to a society.
There has been Dispute on the most reliable way to measure Economic development.
In this paper the measurement of Economic Development is the Human Development
index (HDI), which is

The Power Of Macbeth
Who has the most power? Imagine doing whatever it takes to make it to the top.
Would you risk it all? Or would you play it safe? In Macbeth, Shakespeare makes
control a demand for all of the characters. Macbeth is the thane of Glamis who is
killing to have another title. He goes to extreme measures to become the king of
Scotland. His wife, Lady Macbeth, wants this just as much and she tries to
manipulate his actions to gain control over him. After the death of Duncan, Malcolm
and Macduff flee to another country which makes them look like suspects and
Macbeth has an advantage over the title as king. After Macbeth becomes king both
him and his wife encounter a downfall that causes both of them to die with a guilty
conscious. All of the characters want to get to the top of the social class but only a
few will go to the extreme to get there. Macbeth has the most power throughout the
whole play because even when things became pathetic for him he always knew he
was in charge of his own destiny. In the play, The Three Witches possess partial
blame for the outcomes during the story. Also known as The Weird sisters, take
control over Macbeth in different aspects with their prophecies. In document D it
states that Macbeth visits them only to find out the different predictions that they
have made for him. Within the document it states Macbeth asking Whate er thou art,
for thy good caution, thanks.... (Document D), showing that they had some control
over the actions of Macbeth
Relationship Between Prison And Prison
How to go Along to get Along in Prison.
Prison life Nobody ever really wants to go to prison. Within the prison walls there is
a certain subculture involving norms, values, language, codes, and other
miscellaneous items that the inmates learn or use in order to survive prison (state or
private for profit prisons). One of the goals for prison is to protect the public while
punishing the criminal by incarceration and then hopefully rehabilitate them at the
end of their sentence to become productive citizens in the free world.
Prison Subculture The words prison subculture describe the language, norms,
beliefs, attitudes, values and lifestyles of the inmates within a certain prison
(Prisons: 2015). Research shows that many prison subcultures in the United States
are remarkably comparable to each other. It is believed that the subculture
developed in order for inmates to cope with being locked up for years at a time.
When an inmate enters a new prison or even their first prison it is not the guards
that they have to worry about, it is the other inmates. This is where the word
prisonization comes in meaning that the inmate will learn the subculture of the
prison that they are in (Prison: 2015). Within hours/days of arriving at their new cell
the new inmates might be taken in by prison families depending on the intake
procedures for the prison. For some inmates this is a comfort to know they won t be
alone and they have someone to watch their back. These
Summer Of Riley Book Report
This was a tough observation for me. I really bonded with these students and learned
about their lives so leaving them was exponentially difficult. When I walked in they
were checking their math homework like normal. Ms. J picked 5 different questions
to grade with the students as she worked them out on the board. She then had the
students put their gradeat the top and pass it in. I asked Ms. J how she inserts grades
because she is always grading when I come in her room. She said she looks for
progress more than the grade. Sometimes she averages them at the end of the week so
if the students were having an off week their grades would not suffer to terribly. The
students then moved to their centers of Tenmarks, mountain math problems 19 24 we

She added a new group to the book club. This group was just reading science
passages before because Ms. J needed to find an interesting book on level for this
group. The students made a paper booklet for their books and wrote the questions
that were posted on the board and their answers for that book on a different page.
So the first real page in the book would be the questions for chapter one the next
page would be where the students recorded the questions and answers for chapter
two, and so on. The new book added was named Summer of Riley. This novel
follows the story of an eleven year old who has a dog named Riley that they are
trying to save from being put to sleep by the law enforcement for chasing livestock.
This raises a lot of interesting questions for the students including how to lawfully
go about protesting a law, which is quite interesting to hear their conversations
about it because they would never be in the position of William but they apply the
story to their lives, which was fascinating. Ms. J really fosters the love of reading in
her class, which I have really loved to
Essay On How Did The British Colonization Of North
America
The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. Of the three
major colonizers who vied for control of North America from the 15th to 17th
centuries, it was the early bird Spanish who got the worm, but after all was said
and done, it was England who got the more desirable cheese. After 1763, the
English had control of all land east of the Mississippi river and virtually all of
present day Canada. The English were able to gain the upper hand in the conflict for
control of North America not only because of military victories, but also because of
good timing. The English victory over the Spanish Armadamarked the beginning of
the British naval dominance in the Atlantic. Englandand Spain had been enjoying a...

With the Spanish out of the picture and Portugal busy with their own colonies in
South America, the time was right for England to grab their slice of the North
American pie. The English victory over Spain in 1588 sparked an English
renaissance in taking to the sea. People became interested in sailing, also because of
the amazing treasures the newly knighted Sir Francis Drake was reaping in from the
West Indies. England had the financial capabilities to colonize, but they now
needed manpower to live in and maintain those colonies. And lucky for England,
their timing was just right. Britain s feudal system had created a large gap between
their upper and lower classes. The members of the lower class were looking to
move up on the food chain by whatever means necessary. At that time, the amount
of land you owned signified your power, but in England, there was less available
land and a growing lower class. If the lower class couldn t find land to own in
England, then they would have to search elsewhere. At that time, there happened to
be an entire continent of land available across the sea. Meanwhile, people were
being persecuted for their religious beliefs, and they were not able to tolerate this
anymore. People were turning to the New World with the hope of a religious
sanctuary. There was also the hope for a chance for a new start with their own
religion, and the opportunity to
Use Of Propaganda And How It Is Used By Donna Woolfolk
Cross
How Not to Be Bamboozled
We tend to think of language as something we use; we are much less often aware of
the way we are used by language (Cross 247). There are different types of
communication and communication styles, for example, verbal, non verbal, and
visual. Propaganda can be found in all forms of communication. It is used for
persuading, coercing, and manipulating ones feelings, actions, and belief of things in
a certain way. Donna Woolfolk Cross believes, The only defense to become wise to
the ways of words (247).
In her essay, Propaganda: How Not to Be Bamboozled , author Donna Woolfolk
Cross explains the different types of propaganda and how it is used in the United
States. The essay was first published in Speaking of Words: A Language Reader
(1977). Cross defines propaganda as simply a means of persuasion and so it can
be put to work for good causes as well as bad (247). In her article she discusses how
propaganda works and explains how propaganda is used with thirteen different
devices to manipulate people s thoughts, opinions, and ideas. She uses this essay as
an informative piece, giving advice on how not to be manipulated by propaganda.
In Cross s opinion, she believes people are bamboozled by propaganda because they
fail to recognize when they experience it (248). The thirteen propaganda methods
Cross describes in this essay include the following: Name Calling, Glittering

How To Make A Mold Inspection
A mold inspection generally takes several steps to complete. Mold is usually found
in damper areas of the home, such as the basement, crawl space or bathroom, but it
can also be found where there is constant moisture. Usually, improper drainage,
leakage or high humidity causes mold infestations. If you begin to smell a musty
odor, or you otherwise suspect you have a moldinfestation, getting a mold inspection
done may be your first line of defense to ensure both the safety of your family but
also that further damage is not done to the home. A mold inspection will figure out
exactly where the mold is, what kind of mold it is, and also the causes and potential
solutions to the issue.
Usually, a homeowner has a couple of options when it comes to mold inspection
and tests. There are a number of tester kits out there that you can find at either
home improvement stores or on the internet. However, these do not usually
provide the sort of report that you may be needing when faced with a mold
problem. There will be many questions that you have, which can usually only be
answered by someone professionally trained to deal with mold and mold related
issues. Getting an inspection done by a professional will not only assure you that
the tests are done properly, but also, give you the answers you need to be able to
have a complete inspection and also find out what your options may be. ... Show more

Make sure though that the person doing the inspection is certified to do those sort
of inspections because not all home inspectors are, and this is information you will
have to verify yourself. If you only want a mold inspection done, it is usually best to
go with someone who is certified and very experienced in the
Japan s Total Empire Summary
Louise Young in her meticulous and groundbreaking monograph, Japan s Total
Empire: Manchuria and the Culture of Wartime Imperialism, calls for a turn to the
study of ordinary people s agency in building Japanese imperialism and empire.
She accurately points out the problem at the root of previous scholarships that
concentrate on the state as the sole actor in the history of Japan s expansionism.
Certainly, to drag the ordinary into the swirl of history and the responsibility of its
cause is not to negate the state s role, but to have a fuller picture of how the empire
worked at the home front. It is interesting, in this sense, to juxtapose Wilson s piece
along with Young s to understand Japan s empire at home in the early 1930s. If

If one dissects her argument, it goes as follows: the cause is the four factors, the
effect the changing countryside, and the young men s association newspapers as the
evidence; thus, the causality is supposed to be substantiated by the evidence.
However, what is found in her evidence cannot confirm the causal relationship. For
example, to prove the impact of the depression on the rightist turn in the local
opinions, she provides the report of the young men s association as the sole evidence,
yet she does not explain the relation of this piece of evidence with the changing
society caused by the depression. When she mentions the report in the previous
section of the article, she only identifies the cleavage between the right and left and
the exacerbation of the situation because of the Manchuria Incident. Therefore, it is
confusing with not only the background of this report but its implication in terms of
the relation between the depression and the local society. For the effect of the
Manchurian Incident, Wilson indeed provides evidence from the newspapers that
talked about the rising military demands and influence at the home front. Yet
Greek Influence On The Modern World
The Greek influence in the modern world is still significant today. In a matter of
words Hellenism brought us intelligence. The cultural significance of Hellenism in
this modern world brought us libraries, museums, art, architecture, language, warfare
tactics and weapons, philosophers and philosophies, and democratic societies.
Hellenism in the modern world means to adopt Greek culture even in non Greek
regions. Hellenism has brought to the modern world many different things that may
have been once impossible. Hellenism has brought literature comedies epic tales,
poetry, and tragedy. In modern terms this is converted into books, movies, theatre,
television, plays, and they have become a part of everyday life. Furthermore,
Hellenism has brought us philosophy, which in a way increased intelligence. With the
likes of Pluto, he brought us ethics, justice, and methods of acquiring knowledge.

Voter Suppression Essay Examples
As stated in the 15th Amendment to the United States Constitution, the right of
citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United
States or by any state because race, color, or previous condition of servitude. As the
act of voting itself is the guardian of all other rights, the right to vote is by far the
most important. Our nation is arguably facing levels of dissent not seen for
generations, and the topic of voter rights and voter suppression is once again at the
forefront. Voter suppression occurs in many ways, and takes on many names, but
affects the low income and racial minorities in significant ways. This paper will bring

Tensions and emotions are running high, and some days it feels like the United States
may be on the brink of a Civil War. Millions of constituents are furious as the turn of

them. Despite all the progress that has been made for democracy over the past
century, the country seems to be moving backwards. In 2013, the Voting Rights Act
was gutted, allowing for the voter ID laws to take hold. During this year s election,
the impact of voter suppression has had a staggering effect on the results. While the
numbers are still trickling in, estimates of individuals being blocked by the voter ID
law alone estimate in the millions. It is imperative our society familiarizes itself with
the patterns of voter suppression, so that each case may be prevented in the future.
Open dialogue is critical in this matter, and middle ground must be met. For our
nation to move forward, all parties must be fully informed of the facts. Only then can
each citizen in this nation know the full potential of their constitutional
Symptoms And Treatment Of Depressive Disorders
Depressive disorders are amongst the most common and debilitating illnesses that
have a direct effect on the body and the mind. Symptomatology, complexity, and risk
factors vary greatly depending on the individual s socioeconomic status (Rush et al.
2006) as it influences access to mental health professionals, and often delays proper
diagnosis. Major Depressive Disorder(MDD) is one of the most common depressive
disorders, affecting 11.4% of the U.S. population aged 12 to 17, and 6.7% of all U.S
adults (NIMH, 2016). Regardless of type, depression is a topic of grave concern
considering the alarming rates in the country, the shortage of qualified therapists, and

Depression: Beyond SSRIs, Evidence Based Alternative Therapies The National
Institute of Mental Health reported that in 2014, an estimated 2.8 million U.S
adolescents aged 12 to 17, and an estimated 15.7 million U.S adults aged 18 or
older had at least one major depressive episode in the past year, thus representing
11.4% of the U.S. population aged 12 to 17, and 6.7% of all U.S adults (NIMH,
2016). More inclusively the lifetime prevalence of people experiencing major
depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder is 20.8%
of the U.S adult population. The 12 month prevalence is 9.5%, of which 45% are
classified as severe. Non hispanic whites and women are the most likely populations
to experience a mood disorder over their lifetime (NIMH, 2016). It is imperative for
the general population to be educated on the general concepts of depression, and
aware of the multiple options available for the treatment of depression given that
there is a strong reliance on conventional methods by primary care providers.
Alternative therapies are providing outstanding results, and the following literature
review will provide evidence based arguments supporting their use in clinical practice.

Defense Construction Canada Case Study
During the conference, I was interested in the presentation by Zita Dove and Dean
MacMullin about working at the Defense Construction Canada (DCC). Zita Dove
was explaining the company that they work for and how they have 33 work sites
with almost 1000 people working at those sites. The DCC is a construction company
who works for the Department of National Defense (DND). The DND contracts the
DCC to do their construction. Since the DCC works for the DND they are working
in a securityzone. The construction sites are within the military grounds. With the
construction being on military rounds the workers needto have the specific security
clearance needed to enter the grounds they are working on. This leads to where there
is a need for a database.
Actor, Will Rogers, Succeeded in Silent Films and Talkies...
The 1930s were known for many things, one of the biggest being the movement
from silent films to talkies which is what the first films with script and other sound
effects were called. When film was first being produced everything had to be acted
out with no sound, meaning there was no music, talking, laugh track, nothing. While
there were people who excelled at acting in silent films, not many were able to make
the transition to talkies easily. However the ones who did, flourished. One such star
was Will Rogers. He was a ranch hand, rodeo rider, vaudeville performer, film star,
columnist and author, radio personality, pioneer of aviation, tireless master of
ceremonies, friend to presidents, and unofficial ambassador of good will under...

Racism In Othello Research Paper
Racism in the play, Othello
Is a playwright being racist if they write a black character as a tragic hero? In
William Shakespeare s play, The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice, the main
character Othello is black and a powerful, respected leader. Tragically, Othello
regresses to become a jealous monster who murders own wife. Shakespeare seems to
be ambiguous about if he sees Othello as virtuous or evil. If one observes closely,
Shakespeare seems to be both sympathetic and racist toward Othello by displaying
his noble and base qualities. At first, Shakespeare seems to be sympathetic toward
Othello. By describing Othello as a well respected general in Venice, an eloquent
speaker and a prominent figure, Shakespeare shows his respect and sympathy for
Othello. Near the end, Othello reminds them I have done the state some service, and

We see this when Othello recognizes he is different: Rude am I in my speech, / And
little blessed with the soft phrase of peace (1.3.81 82). As an eloquent speaker, it is
strange that he apologizes for being uncouth. We see that Othello is aware and self
conscious that people have negative preconceptions about black people. The fact he
views himself as an outsider shows there was negative prejudice against black people
during that time. Othello both seems willing to submit to the discrimination of
society and self deprecation of himself. His insecurities about his race seem to lead
him to his downfall. When accepts that he is alien to society because of his racial
difference, it seems to lead him to easily believe Desdemona would leave him.
Shakespeare appears to be racist when presenting Othello as an outsider as it

The romantic era had begun in the early 19th century and was the most innovative era

Throughout the romantic era many innovative features were introduced such as gas
lighting, trap doors and fly wires. Gas lighting was used as the transition light from
sunshine to moonlight for the ballet acts. Gas lighting created a mood to tell the story
of a love that was destined to fail, especially in Giselle. The dark light of the second
act filtered across the willis as they haunted the graveyard. Trap doors and fly wires
were innovative as it gave the effect of the ballerina s disappearing and flying
through the air delicately.
The ballet Giselle is a romantic ballet based on a forbidden love between a royal
and a commoner. Giselle is a young girl who has a weak heart and falls deeply in
love with a royal named Albercht. Giselle has a strong passion for dancing however,
her heart limits her from doing what she loves. Later in the ballet she finds out that
the man she loves dearly is engaged with another woman.
In the romantic era the costuming had a large impact on performances. The costumes
complimented the ballerinas.
Frederick The Great Accomplishments
Frederick the Great is best remembered nowadays as the Prussian king who led his
country to the forefront of Europe through several wars and his domestic policies.
Being an enthusiastic patron of the arts, he is also remembered as being a talented
musician and Enlightened despot who sought to become the ideal platonic king .
But while Frederick the Great pursued Enlightenment ideas and patronage of the
arts, he deserves the title, The Great , because of his military and state achievements.
While Frederick is remembered as a great military mind, ironically, as a child,
Frederick seemed to shun all of the militaristic views and habits of his father. Against
his father s wishes, he was interested in learning poetry, French, and music. His
interests... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He will undoubtedly be remembered for his pursuit of Enlightenment ideas and
patronage of the arts, but it was the stories of Frederick s deeds and speeches far
outlived his own life. It was the stories of Frederick rallying the broken ranks at
Hochkirch, being hit by a cannonball at Torgau, or Frederick s rallying speech at
Leuthen that were remembered by his men and subjects, not the fact that
Frederick was more interested in French than German, or that he played the flute.
It was Frederick s reforms of agriculture, economics, and preservation and
expansion of Prussia against all odds and enemies that people remembered, not the
fact that Frederick wrote a commentary on Machiavelli or had a different taste in
music. We remember Frederick II in our textbooks as Frederick the Great not
because he was a patron of the arts or considered himself a philosopher king, but
because he used his army and reforms to turn the small backwater country of Prussia
into the a feared power in

What Does The Chimney Sweeper Mean
Daniela Ferreira Lopes English 1B 11/06/15 The chimney sweeper The poem The
Chimney Sweeper by William Blake is all about exploitation, oppression, and
abuse of young naive boys. The sweeps are innocent victims of the cruelest
exploitation. Their lives are restricted. The imagery the speaker uses show the
awful conditions in which the children were working in. The first stanza, the
speaker in the poem introduces himself by saying that he lost his mother and his
father sold him in a very young age. And my father sold me while yet my tongue

In stanza 5, the Angel told Tom, ...if he d be a good boy,/ He d have God for his
father, and never want joy . (19 20) The boy s father sold him when he was very

him happy in the morning after he woke up from that dream. In stanza 6 he simply

experiencing dreamy joy for spiritual comfort. This part of the poem are stating
that the boys have something to look forward to after life on earth. The anguish of

unlocking of coffins by an angel and being washed clean in a river. These are
Christian citations to Christ s resurrection and also baptism. The beginning of the
stanza 5, the speaker mentions the boys in the dream were naked and white, all their
bags left behind (17). Naked and white suggests innocence and purity. Baggage

Graduation Speech At Utah Valley University
Ever since I could remember my parents told me that college was key to being
successful in life, if you didn t attend a good college your life was most likely not
going to be a very happy one. This message stay throughout my life , education was
of great importance and college was the key factor of where you ended up in life.
High schoolcounselors, teachers, parents, and mentors all emphasized that the better
the collegeyou attend the more opportunities you ll have. Being a high school senior
and having to think seriously about the future now, I applied for many schools and
landed at Utah Valley University, a great feeder school for Brigham Young University
. I attended Utah Valley University for 1 semester and I really enjoyed many
aspects of going to a university but decided to go back home to orange county and
attend a community college instead, Coastline Community College. I have so far
been enrolled at coastline for about a month and can see the likenesses and the
differences between the university life and the community college life. I can see no
college is alike, and that doesn t mean one college is better than another. It took
transferring to a community college to see that not even a university is better than a
community college.
Utah Valley University and Coastline Community College, weren t the same type of
school but actually had quite a bit of similarities. For instance, both Utah Valley and
Coastline are well known for being great feeder schools to

Literary Examples Of Didactic Literature
Didactic literature is not always written alike, it has been and is written to teach
children morals, politeness, how to be obedient and responsible and to teach
children how they should conform to religious and cultural expectations. Authors
use different didactic approaches to convey their desired lesson or persuasion.
Examples of didactic readings from our class lectures are The Purple Jar by Maria
Edgeworth which uses didacticism to teach that things are not always what they
appear and the differences between need and want. In contrast, the story of The
Good Little Boy by Mark Twain, uses poking fun at the didactic message of how a
good boy is to behave to teach the lesson. Lastly, in the writings of James Janeaway s

the author is teaching the didactic lesson that things are not always as they seem
and the reader should always closely examine their decisions. Rosamond ends up
with stones in her shoes causing her pain and eventually not being able to attend
an event with her father due to her appearance. In this the author is showing the
poor decision Rosamond made and the consequences of that decision. Rosamond
confides in her mother that she made a poor decision and she would like new

must abide by your own choice; and now the best thing you can possibly do is bear
your disappointment with good humor. The Purple Jar teaches the difference of
need and want, that evaluation of the decision should be thorough as things are not
always as they appear and that there are consequences for every decision the
readers make. In The Story of The Good Little Boy by Mark Twain, Twain takes a
contrasting approach to didactic literature where he tells a story of Jacob Blivens

Summary Of Mississippi Trial By Chris Crowe
In the novel Mississippi Trial, 1955, by Chris Crowe, takes place in Mississippi s
delta. Crowe asserts injustice through the editorial and trial scene and uses
grandpa and Hiram as an example. Mississpi s rasicsm in 1955 was extreme as
shown in the novel. The fact that rasicm also determined the laws only given to
white folks at the time was injustice. Only white men and women had rights. Crowe
explains injustice in 1955 through the editorial by twisting the grieving mother s
words and making Mississippi the victim instead of her. Her determination to see
that Mississippi is going to pay for this, charging the state with the guilt of those
who took the law into their own hands. (page 127) Then the editorial went on to say

Taking the death penalty off was only the beginning for the injustice of the trial.
The end of the trial the court found the defendants not guilty. Innocent? How could
the jury find them innocent? These two men and others had murdered a boy and
now their fellow citizens had not only turned them loose but were celebrating.
(page 192) Hiram knew how injustice it was. They set white folks that had

wanted to keep the record of no white people in jail. The townspeople knew the
truth but because Emmett Till was colored it didn t matter. It was obvious that
Emmett till was murdered. There was no free boy that would ever think of suicide.

Firstly, as far as image goes I cannot literally produce a physical representation of a
TIm Hortons cup. The best I could do is pictures of what it looked like at the time.
Secondly, while I can show images of the inside a Tim Hortons I can not show the
atmosphere of a Tim Hortons. For instance, how busy the morning rush is with a
line of people trying to get coffee. Or how you see a group of retired people having
a daily discussion at lunch time over coffee. There s only so much that can be
done on the medium of digital curation. Consequently, there are also some key
issues when trying to curate the taste of something online. Because you can say
what something taste like and be very descriptive. Ultimately, you can t truly
appreciate what something tastes like until you have actually tasted it. Lastly,
while I can present in words the cultural impact that Tim Hortons and the double

Women in Oedipus Rex Essay
Women in Oedipus Rex
Charles Segal in Oedipus Tyrannus: Tragic Heroism and the Limits of Knowledge
explains one of the pivotal functions of Jocasta in Sophocles Oedipus Rex:
The second series begins with Jocasta. . . .Now Oedipus is pursuing the killer as
possibly the same as himself. . . . In this set his goal shifts gradually from
uncovering the murderer to discovering his own parents. The confidence and power
that he demonstrated in the first series of encounters gradually erode into anger, loss

The critic Ehrenberg warns that it may lead to hubris (74 75). Throughout the drama
Sophocles draws out an ongoing contrast between the godlike mastery of the king
and the softer, more balanced and selfless characteristics of Jocasta, his wife. She is a
foil to Oedipus. Shortly thereafter Creon, Jocasta s brother, is returning from the
Delphic oracle with the fateful words of the god s command: He fell; and now the
god s command is plain: /Punish his takers off, whoe er they be. Immediately
Oedipus boldly launches a campaign to do what is best for his people and for himself:
I also, as is meet, will lend my aid
To avenge this wrong to Thebes and to the god.
Not for some far off kinsman, but myself,
Shall I expel this poison in the blood;
For whoso slew that king might have a mind
To strike me too with his assassin hand.
Oedipus, in his public proclamation regarding punishment for the killer of King
Laius, shows more lenient treatment toward the guilty party if he confesses his crime:
I summon him to make clean shrift to me./And if he shrinks, let him reflect that thus
/Confessing he shall scape the capital charge . Oedipus, in his cross examination of
the holy man Teiresias, shows his mastery to be more human and less godlike:
Monster! thy silence would incense a flint. /Will nothing loose thy tongue? Can
nothing melt thee, /Or shake thy dogged taciturnity? The king is confronted with

When meeting someone for the first time, it is very easy to make assumptions about
that person without knowing anything about them at all. We re all human, we all do
this. In her essay, A Prostitute, a Servant, and a Customer service Representative: A

about their professors advocates their attitude toward their education. Racial
stereotypes challenge us to consider our own expectations of what we should get
out of a college education, and who or what constitutes a college professor. She
vigorously uses emotional appeals and establishes her tone of voice using style and
word choice in a concerned, direct manner to argue that students make personal or
racially biased assumptions about their teachers/professors, resulting in a lousy
attitude towards education. Throughout the essay, Lugo Lugo uses personal
experiences and builds bridges with her audience to further establish emotional
appeals. Carmen Lugo Lugo is a woman of color, specifically a Latina. Latinos have
become so stereotyped, that people s portrayals and descriptions of them have
become so ingrained in their minds that

Doctors can even use the images to create a black and white image that looks like an
actual endoscopy.[29]
Virtual endoscopy has some advantages over standard endoscopy; nothing is put
into the body and no drugs are needed for the test and the doctor can change the
angle or magnify the image, which can help with diagnosis. However, there are
some disadvantages, too. Virtual endoscopy shows good detail, but it s not quite as
good at showing fine surface detail as standard endoscopy such that it can t show
color differences. It also exposes the patient to about the same amount of radiation as
a standard CT. And because nothing is put into the body, the doctor can t take biopsy
samples or remove growths. If something abnormal is found, the patient may still
need a standard endoscopy.
According to Pauriol Lacaze, S. et al. [30] virtual endoscopy is a considerably new
procedure, and doctors aren t yet sure how best to use it. It will likely be used more

While HIPEC can be appropriate for a wide variety of patients, in general, the
cancer needs to be limited to the abdominal cavity for HIPEC to be used, Dr.
Labow explained, adding that it can be combined with traditional chemotherapy as
well. He cautions that patients must be generally healthy to undergo HIPEC with
cytoreduction, as the procedure can be long and complex. Another key to HIPEC
treatment is the need to be able to remove all of the visible cancer and then
administer the chemotherapy. If the disease is too extensive then HIPEC may not
be possible. HIPEC enables us to administer a high concentration of chemotherapy
right where the cancer cells live, rather than circulate it all around the body, Dr.
Labow said. This allows for fewer side effects and better killing of the cancer cells.
It can also reduce the need for regular chemotherapy, although it is usually given in
addition to regular chemo, and not instead of it. It gives us a new option to fight the
most difficult to treat cancers. Want a referral to see Dr. Labow? Check out our free

I. LANDING GEAR SAFETY DEVICES
Most airplanes with a retractable landing gear have a gear warning horn that will
sound when the airplane is configured for landing and the landing gear is not down
and locked. Normally, the horn is linked to the throttle or flap position, and/or the
airspeed indicator so that when the airplane is below a certain airspeed, configuration,
or power setting with the gear retracted, the warning horn will sound. Accidental
retraction of a landing gear may be prevented by such devices as mechanical
downlocks, safety switches, and ground locks. Mechanical downlocks are built in
components of a gear retraction system and are operated automatically by the gear
retraction system. To prevent accidental operation of the... Show more content on

What happens is that atomic hydrogen found in such substances interacts chemically
with the high tensile steel in the gear, causing the affected areas to transform
chemically into a brittle alloy with a risk of fracturing. The only way to counteract
hydrogen embrittlement is to remove the affected component and bake it in a special
oven at 375 F for 23 hours, Lind tells AMT. This allows the hydrogen atoms to
migrate to the surface and then escape.
Maintenance best practices
When damaged aircraft landing gear comes into the shop, it costs more to overhaul
than landing gear that has been maintained properly. Here is what you can do to
keep your landing gear costs down. The first step is lubrication. It may sound
simple, but insufficient lubrication during regular usage causes unnecessary wear
and tear in many of the system s components. Lubrication is critical to the
movement of all articulated parts and joints of landing gear, says Lind. Proper
lubrication ensures smooth functioning, less friction and wear, and the appropriate
transfer of forces throughout the gear during use. Lubrication is key to keeping out
water, de icing fluid, and other corrosion causing substances. Make no mistake;
corrosion is a real problem for landing gear. Before you lubricate, be sure to check
the aircraft s manual to find out what substances you can and cannot use. In some
cases, using the
The Brain And Its Effects On Human Brain
Through neurological processes, pattern recognition, and analytical resolutions that
the human brain achieves when interpreting sound, unknown scientific truths and
developments of society can be exposed through various examinations of auditory
data in conjunction with traditional visual data.
Following an advanced series of steps, the brain transforms sound waves into
interpretable information. Once the sound wave has passed the eardrum and reaches
the inner ear, the behavior of the wave is converted into electrical signals that are
sent to the brain. The spiral shaped cochlea in the inner ear is lined with sensory
cells (or hair cells) with different levels of sensitivity, allowing the ear to perceive
sounds of varying frequencies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Graphs and charts allow data to be mapped by means of two or three variables,
limiting the analysis of the star. Yet, parameter mapping accounts for various features
of sound as shown in Figure 2.
On the other hand, audificaiton is the direct translation of data samples to audio
samples (ScienceFriday, 2016). Being the most basic method of sonification, each
data point is translated into a signal level, which a digital to analog converter reads
(Vogt, 2008). This converter takes the finite number of signal levels (e.g., four in the
Potts model) and translates them into a state with an infinite number of levels,
allowing the data to sound continuous, just as human speech does.
Most recognizably, sonification can also be in the form of auditory icons. They
have images that correspond to a specific sound. For example, the trashcan icon on
the computer is accompanied by the auditory icon s sound of a crumpled piece of
paper thrown into a metal trashcan (Vogt, 2008). Additionally, the beep... beep... beep
of a heartrate monitor can easily be recognized. The auditory icon of a beep relays
the beat of a patient s heartrate so that physicians and caretakers may accurately
monitor the patient.
Model based sonification uses the data to control a model that produces sound (Vogt,
2008). This includes the human perception of pitch when filling up a water bottle; an
individual can determine the level of water in the bottle (TГјnnermann et al., 2009)

Sonya and Raskolnikov s initially awkward and perplexing relationship reflects

dim light in [the] destitute room upon the murderer and the harlot strangely come
together over the reading of the eternal book (Dostoevsky 328). When Sonya and
Raskolnikov see one another eye to eye, this represents a point in Dostoevsky s
life where he successfully balances his religious and irreligious beliefs and a happy
medium between the two is achieved. When first imprisoned, Raskolnikov shunned
everyone and spent most of his days alone without human interaction. Raskolnikov
s prison experience is based off of Dostoevsky s own experiences as a convict when
he spent four prisons at a prison in Omsk, on the Irtysh River. Raskolnikov s
gloominess made him treat Sonya very poorly despite her unwavering loyalty to him.
At this point, Raskolnikov still does not understand the sin of his murder. Several
circumstances granted Raskolnikov a lighter sentence but Raskolnikov wishes
Muslim Women Stereotypes
Breaking the Stereotypes.
Orientalism, is a current of European ideas, focused on the East. West is interpreting
the stereotypes about the Eastern world and its culture. West has made a stereotype

Orientalism has long been the subject of a religious criticism in the Arab Muslim
world that undertakes to defend Islam against the defamatory image that many
orientalist writings give it, but often confuses it in the same Opprobrium of
Orientalists, atheists and enemies of the Arab nation. This criticism is so classic
that the expression lies and calumnies of orientalists and atheists has become a
commonplace in our countries. Some of these religious critics have realized that
the orientalist was acting in concert with the colonizer, that is to say, they have
become aware of the political dimension of the question of orientalism, but this
dimension has always remained secondary. While Keith Windschuttle has
something different to say about Said s Orientalism as Keith writes in his article
called Edward Said s Orientalism revisited . He has questioned Said s work and the
way said has given solution like working and considering the social, religious and
political concepts of Muslim women. He claims that Said s theory is contradicting

Continuity And Changes In Ancient Egypt
Throughout the centuries, Ancient Egypt has faced many changes, different
Dynasties, rulers and wars. The one thing that has rarely ever changed, is Egyptian
religion, and by proxy their temples. Throughout Ancient Egypt, Temples have been
a focal point in every village. The temples more often than not were grand displays
of extravagance to show a god s strength and power in the mortal world. The temples
of Ancient egyptare rife with culture and different architectural designs. The egyptians
felt that each god had to be presented to the best of their mortal abilities.
The temples of Egypt were built for the worship of the mighty gods and the pharaohs

Argumentative Essay On Cranberry And Blue
Cranberry and blue. Why cranberry? Ah hem... Professor Bagshot stood in front of

The Role Of Portraiture For Science Education Research

There are several researchers who use portraiture method for their researches. For
example, The first example is The viability of portraiture for science education
research: learning from portraits of two science classrooms is a research that
delivered two portraits of teachers and their classrooms to explain how context
played a significant role in teachers experiences and how it influenced their
classroom pedagogy (Quigley et al., 2015, p. 21). They wanted to know in what way
portraiture can support deep, dynamic understanding of context in science education
(Quigley et al., 2015, p. 21). The knowledge given from teachers and their classrooms
clarifies how useful the portraiture methodology would be for science education
research. How portraiture guided the study will be explained and two portraits that
illuminate the dynamic influences on science teachers and their practice will be
provided.

L.L. Bean Is An Apparel, Home And Outdoor Equipment
Retailer
L.L. Bean is an apparel, home and outdoor equipment retailer based in Freeport,
Maine. It was founded in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean and has based its success
upon top notch customer service. It is a privately held, family owned company with
annual sales of $1.6 billion (L.L. Bean Company Information, n.d.). L.L. Bean is
rather unique in that you won t find a mission statement on their website. Instead
what guides the company is the combination of L.L. s Golden Rule, the guarantee
that customers must be 100% satisfied in every way, their philosophy on what a
customer is, and their stakeholder concept. These four fundamentals are found on the

Consideration was given to marketing the product without the L.L. Bean name,
given the risk of damage to the reputable Bean brand in the case of total failure, but
the decision was made with confidence to move forward with the product launch as
a new, L.L. Bean product. L.L. Bean has a solid footing among its competitors,
which among many others include Land s End, Cabela s, Bass Pro Shops, and
Dick s Sporting Goods. In a somewhat outdated, yet still relevant article from
ADWEEK, they talk about L.L. Bean s way of dealing with customers by
guaranteeing satisfaction over the long term as opposed to competitors stance of
looking at the present sale or the short term (Bean Takes On Competitors By
Touting Longevity, 2002). This philosophy on customer service is what makes
L.L. Bean stand out over the competition. The product for this launch is a new item
that will be a must have for campers, hikers, and those who live in areas prone to
power outages. It is a combination solar powered and wood, twig, brush fueled
device that delivers electricity to power small items as well as charge cell phones,
tablets and other electronic gadgets. It also has a built in light and serves as a heat
source and small cooking stovetop. This product will appeal to a wide variety of
target audiences, including the environmentally conscious, the technologically savvy,
and the rustic, outdoor type. The value this product will provide is immeasurable.

Q3 * What types of communication are integrated within Sametime s digital
environment? What type of communication is missing? Does it make a difference?
* Reciprocal it goes between two or more people changing rolls. * Linguistic and
extra linguistic People communicate through key board (chatting) or using some
familiar codes. * Private and public The communication inside the company can be
private when it occurs between two employees or public when it goes to everyone
in the organization. (In fact, it is not totally private because the conversation can be
followed for the database system.) * Formal The messages use a formal code
according to the organization policies. * Horizontal and vertical It can occur in a
same range people or from boss to assistant.
What is missing here is the physical or interpersonal communication. It can make the
difference because when people talk they express a lot of feelings. The main
advantage is that employees will not realize if the other one is tired or in another bad
situation.

Schizophrenia In The Soloist
The Soloist is a movie about a talented musician in his mid fifties named Nathaniel
Anthony Ayers. He attended Julliard but had to drop out due to the onset of
schizophrenic episodes. His time at Julliard playing the cello was cut short when the
voices in his head at the onset of his schizophrenia began to interfere with his playing.
After having difficulties with his family, he found himself living on the streets of Los
Angeles. He was discovered by an LA Times journalist named Steve Lopez. The
movie portrays the struggling daily life of Nathaniel after meeting Lopez including
the search for housing, musical opportunity, and social connections. It reveals the
obstacles that someone with schizophrenia must overcome throughout their life. The

Someone with schizophrenia has a great difficulty maneuvering through everyday
social interactions, specifically interpersonal relationships. There is a loss of life
roles , where it is hard to decipher where oneself and others fit in to social settings
(Browne Courtney, 2007, p. 74). Social networks are weakened soon after the onset
of schizophrenia. The importance of immediate and extended family increases in
response to the need for positive, supportive, reciprocating relationships (Browne
Courtney, 2007, p. 77). Positive, social interactions are supportive for schizophrenic
episodes but they cannot cure them. Another aspect of social life that is hindered by
schizophrenia is the ability to make proper judgments about others. Many people find
it difficult to make proper decisions about whether someone is good and trustworthy
or not. The intensity of these symptoms at the onset of schizophrenic episodes gives a
strong sense of the long term prognosis, meaning that highly intense symptoms at
onset lead to a poorer prognosis in the future (Siegel et al.,
Theme Of The Supernatural In Macbeth
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, there are many fascinating sections which could
be focused on due to the suspense and the connection of the supernatural. The
supernatural is what causes conflict in the play and the prophecies from the witches
in act one scene three is the inciting action in the piece. The supernatural causes the
forthcoming conflict by inspiring Macbethto execute Duncan so he could become
king of Scotland. Through temptation, the supernatural stimulates Macbeth to
contemplate arrogantly and for his own advantage. The supernatural in Macbeth
presents prophecies which tempt Macbeth with the idea of power. This leads
Macbeth to contradict his faithful and courageous nature by planning an assassination
on King Duncan with the egotistical intention of becoming king and later annihilating
other characters in the play with the determination of retaining his own powers.
Macbeth was tempted by the original prophecies and showed clear motivation to act
upon them.
Macbeth changes from being loyal and brave to an assassin executing a traitorous
plan to slay the current king due to supernatural propositions that he would be king
himself. Macbeth is respected as a man worthy of recognition by other characters as
evident in act one scene two. In this scene, the Captain states: For brave Macbeth (1.
2. 18). Macbeth is being applauded for his valor and loyalty to Scotland and the king.
This first impression is hastily juxtaposed after hearing the prophecy of the witches
Compare And Contrast Functionalist And Stylistics
Two different approaches in Stylistics: Formalist Vs Functionalist
Stylistics as a particular way of approaching the meaning that a society produces has
many tools to analyze writer s or author s style of their works. There are actually
several different approaches toward stylistics including formalist, mentalist,
textlinguistic/functionalist, pragmatic, radical and empirical, however this paper will
only focus on comparing and contrasting two different approaches, those are
Formalist and Functionalist.
Comparing Formalist and Functionalist
Generally both of them are interested in finding the meaning of the text, but
formalists look at the text semantically, while functionalists concern with the text
pragmatically.

Firth and M.A.K Halliday. Malinowski, 1923 (cited in Burke, 2014) works on the
importance of situational context. Functionalists also look at context as important
thing in constructing meaning. Context will influence how we interpret a text.
However, context is put in the highest level of interpreting meaning. And then, Firth
with his work Personality in language and society (1950). Halliday (1994) (cited in
Burke, 2014) in his work An Introduction to Functional Grammar proposed what we
called as metafunctions . Halliday believed that in a particular language there must be
tripartite functions, namely Ideational, Interpersonal and Textual. Ideational or well
known as experiential meaning which has a representational function is used to
encode any idea or experience of the world; it conveys a picture of reality.
Interpersonal function means we use it to encode interaction to see the social
relationships. And the last is Textual function of language is used to organize our
experiential, logical and interpersonal meanings into a linear and coherent whole and
it provides the formal properties of language. (Halliday, 2014). All these functions
work simultaneously and they have relation one another. However, it still can be

Why You Shouldn t Be Late At Class Staring With The
Most...
There are plenty of reasons why you shouldn t be late to class staring with the most
important thing, you can miss vital information about the lecture. For example let
s say you have a major test coming up and your professor is gracious enough to give
you the answers for the test or decides that since you showed up to class you get an
automatic A. You can also miss the review to a quiz or test, and you can miss a pop
quiz which could ve helped bump up your grade if you were failing or if you just
needed that extra boost. Missing a test or quiz can do some major damage to your
grade easily, I m speaking from experience.
If you miss class, you won t get the same type of explanation of what you read in the
book. Whether it s the explanation from the professor, working with your classmates
in a group or possibly taking notes, there s always more to learn in class. Chances
are, you won t understand everything just by staying home and reading the book a
lot of things covered in class aren t talked about in the book. You ll spend less time
studying for tests or quizzes by showing up to class, taking in all the information and
asking questions about things you didn t understand from reading the book. Every
teacher handles attendance differently.
One professor might call everyone s name in the beginning of class; another might
say flat out they don t take attendance which can be a blessing and curse at the same
time. The stricter the attendance policy, the more likely it is that

According to the social marketing conceptual framework, there are three categories
of products: actual products, core products, and augmented products. Actual
products, in this instance, are the colorectal screenings marketed to adenomatous
positive patients and their family members. Benefits of colonoscopy participation
(core products) include decreased risk of developing cancer, life, and the added
benefit (augmented product) of saving loved ones from cancer diagnoses. With
respect to colonoscopies, the price is a perceived loss of dignity, embarrassment,
and pride (Mikocla Walus, 2012). Post recovery, adenomatous positive patients
viewed an educational video regarding precancerous polyps, therefore the marketing
strategy takes place in the recovery room; and The Computer Based Education
Program and the one paged, personalized, letter of reinforcement are the tools used to
promote awareness of adenomatous polyps and the importance of colorectal
Feminist Swimming Vs Non Swimming
The results supported that the female swimmers had a higher lung performance than
the female non swimmers. The swimmers total average was 34.61 L/min higher. This
could be explained by the fact that that the swimmer subjects had been swimming
routinely and competitively for the past four years. This also leads to the question as
to if their lungvolume is also greater than non swimmers. This could be studied by
assessing the same subjects with a different pulmonary test such as the body
plethysmography. Other tests could also be performed to more accurately assess the
subjects lung function. Peak flow meters are typically used for asthmapatients to
measure the strength of their lungs. Tests such as the spirometry and the gas diffusion

The Influence Of Multitasking On Different Media Devices...
We can watch TV and look through social media news feeds on laptops while
reading texts on smartphones. With all the multitasking it could be shrinking the
structure of our brains. According to new research from the University of Sussex,
people who use cell phones or other devices tend to have a less gray matter density
in parts of the brainversus teens who use one or more devices at a time. Published
in the journal PLOS One, the research is the first to reveal links between
multitasking on different media devices and brain structure (Keating). Media
multitasking is becoming more prevalent in our lives today and there is increasing
concern about its impacts on our cognition and social emotional well being, says
Sussex neuroscientist Kep Kee Loh (Keating) . The researchers asked 75 healthy
men and women how often they divided their attention between different social
media devices, which included sending a text or listing to music while doing other
stuff. The participants were given brain scans, which showed that, compared with
people who used one device at a time, this group had a less dense gray matter in the
cortex which is the part of the brain that is involved in processing emotion (Keating).
Researches aren t sure whether people with less gray brain structures are more likely
to be good at multitasking or if the multitasking causes the gray structures to shrink.
Other studies found that learning how to juggle and learning map routes increased
the gray area in
Analysis Of The Mazurkas
This mazurka is in D major and comes from a set of four mazurkas composed by
Chopin in 1838. It has the tempo marking Vivace, which suggests a lighthearted and
energetic rendition of the music. The accent is consistently on the third beat to create
the typical mazurka dance effect, and it adds interest and character to the playing. All
the mazurkas composed by Chopin have the characteristic of the traditional Polish
dance and evoke the feeling of nationalism because of Chopin s strong identification
with his homeland. These short compositions are interesting in nature and have the
strong tendency to reveal deep feelings and pathos in the listeners even if they are
very condensed.
The piece starts with an accent on the third beat. The left hand has a staccato note on
the first strong beat and an accent on the last third beat. It is arguable whether such
a pattern applies to the right hand as well, but most likely it does, since the right
hand also has the accompanying layer added specifically to the second and third
beats. It should be noted that although Chopin provided the usual pedal marking
which changes once per measure, it is still better to execute the staccato as if there is
no pedal held down to produce a sonic effect that is different than otherwise.
The overall structure is a simple ternary form with the middle section divided into
two repeating parts and a short coda that leads to the end. It should be noted that
despite the fact that there are a lot of changes

These boards give the ultimate style and flex to make park laps stylish and fun.
Sizing is a key component of picking a snowboard. Sizing is linked to height and
riding style.
Height and Style of riding come hand in hand says Tylor Berreth. I was able to
perform an interview with one of my close friends which happens to ride for Burton,
Phunkshun, Spy and many more credible companies. He shared with me some
professional advice regarding sizing snowboards.
A beginner is advised to have a board rage from the chin to nose. A board like this
can help with balance and speed. Two components one must have to learn.
A smaller board, which Tylor rides, is easier to jump, spin, and flip. So advance park
riders like me usually steer closer to boards that are smaller and easier to maneuver.
Lastly a board that goes above the nose is usually a free riding board and used in
deep powder to a have a larger surface area to float on the snow (Berreth).
Camber of a snowboard is the way it bends and forms to the snow. Transworld

Point Of View In Mitty s View Of

The story initially takes place at Jardins Publiques where Miss Brill goes every
Sunday, as stated by the narrator: ...the blue sky powdered with gold and great
spots of light like white wine splashed over the Jardins Publiques (862). Jardins
Publiques...ermine toque and ma petite chГ©rie are also mentioned and represent
Mansfield s continuous use of French throughout the story, which alludes to the
location of the park being located somewhere in France (862 865). The setting of
time being during the 1920s supports Miss Brill s unease through the way it
represents a period of nervousness caused by the two world wars: The air was
motionless, but when you opened your mouth there was just a faint chill, like a
chill from a glass of iced water before you sip, and now and again a leaf came
drifting from nowhere, from the sky (862). This time settings is also supported
when the narrator mentions a band playing in the park every Sunday, referencing a
period when this was more common place. The reference made by the narrator
regarding Miss Brill s house also alludes to a different setting, as shown when she
says, she passed the baker s by, climbed the stairs, went into the little dark room her
room like a cupboard (865). Mansfield s contrast in settings is important because it
represents Miss Brill s realization of reality. Thurber and Mansfield both create a
contrast between reality and the central

  • 3. When Life Begins One of the first medical issues arises from the question of when an embryo is considered alive. We have laws in society that protect life. However, we don t always consider an embryo to be a living thing. It is currently a hot topic of discussion whether or not to allow and use stem cells taken from embryos. The fact that cells must come from women also raises ethical questions concerning therapeutic cloningas this can lead to the exploitation of women. Many people also believe that such technology is unnatural and similar to taking nature in your own hand. Creating clones for the production of transplantable organs is another issue. People believe that we may use clones in an inhuman manner. They feel that we will clone humans in order to use them for their organs, and when we no longer need them, we will kill them off. Because the clones will be providing us with the source of transplantable organs, this may result in enslaving of clones and illegal marketing of organs as well as violating the rights of these cloned people. As cloning technology improves, more and more applications are being seen in everyday life. The implications of cloning in medical science can range from cloning genetically pure organs for human transplantation to using cloned animals to produce pharmaceutical agents. RK Cloning could have legal implications as well. A cloned child who has multiple donors might complicate parental right issues as well inheritance and marital eligibility issues, and

  • 7. The Power Of Macbeth Who has the most power? Imagine doing whatever it takes to make it to the top. Would you risk it all? Or would you play it safe? In Macbeth, Shakespeare makes control a demand for all of the characters. Macbeth is the thane of Glamis who is killing to have another title. He goes to extreme measures to become the king of Scotland. His wife, Lady Macbeth, wants this just as much and she tries to manipulate his actions to gain control over him. After the death of Duncan, Malcolm and Macduff flee to another country which makes them look like suspects and Macbeth has an advantage over the title as king. After Macbeth becomes king both him and his wife encounter a downfall that causes both of them to die with a guilty conscious. All of the characters want to get to the top of the social class but only a few will go to the extreme to get there. Macbeth has the most power throughout the whole play because even when things became pathetic for him he always knew he was in charge of his own destiny. In the play, The Three Witches possess partial blame for the outcomes during the story. Also known as The Weird sisters, take control over Macbeth in different aspects with their prophecies. In document D it states that Macbeth visits them only to find out the different predictions that they have made for him. Within the document it states Macbeth asking Whate er thou art, for thy good caution, thanks.... (Document D), showing that they had some control over the actions of Macbeth
  • 8. Relationship Between Prison And Prison How to go Along to get Along in Prison. Prison life Nobody ever really wants to go to prison. Within the prison walls there is a certain subculture involving norms, values, language, codes, and other miscellaneous items that the inmates learn or use in order to survive prison (state or private for profit prisons). One of the goals for prison is to protect the public while punishing the criminal by incarceration and then hopefully rehabilitate them at the end of their sentence to become productive citizens in the free world. Prison Subculture The words prison subculture describe the language, norms, beliefs, attitudes, values and lifestyles of the inmates within a certain prison (Prisons: 2015). Research shows that many prison subcultures in the United States are remarkably comparable to each other. It is believed that the subculture developed in order for inmates to cope with being locked up for years at a time. When an inmate enters a new prison or even their first prison it is not the guards that they have to worry about, it is the other inmates. This is where the word prisonization comes in meaning that the inmate will learn the subculture of the prison that they are in (Prison: 2015). Within hours/days of arriving at their new cell the new inmates might be taken in by prison families depending on the intake procedures for the prison. For some inmates this is a comfort to know they won t be alone and they have someone to watch their back. These

When I walked in they were checking their math homework like normal. Ms. J picked 5 different questions to grade with the students as she worked them out on the board. She then had the students put their gradeat the top and pass it in. I asked Ms. J how she inserts grades because she is always grading when I come in her room. She said she looks for progress more than the grade. Sometimes she averages them at the end of the week so if the students were having an off week their grades would not suffer to terribly. So the first real page in the book would be the questions for chapter one the next page would be where the students recorded the questions and answers for chapter two, and so on. The new book added was named Summer of Riley. This novel follows the story of an eleven year old who has a dog named Riley that they are trying to save from being put to sleep by the law enforcement for chasing livestock. This raises a lot of interesting questions for the students including how to lawfully go about protesting a law, which is quite interesting to hear their conversations about it because they would never be in the position of William but they apply the story to their lives, which was fascinating. Ms. J really fosters the love of reading in her class, which I have really loved to

Of the three major colonizers who vied for control of North America from the 15th to 17th centuries, it was the early bird Spanish who got the worm, but after all was said and done, it was England who got the more desirable cheese. After 1763, the English had control of all land east of the Mississippi river and virtually all of present day Canada. The English were able to gain the upper hand in the conflict for control of North America not only because of military victories, but also because of good timing. With the Spanish out of the picture and Portugal busy with their own colonies in South America, the time was right for England to grab their slice of the North American pie. The English victory over Spain in 1588 sparked an English renaissance in taking to the sea. People became interested in sailing, also because of the amazing treasures the newly knighted Sir Francis Drake was reaping in from the West Indies. England had the financial capabilities to colonize, but they now needed manpower to live in and maintain those colonies. And lucky for England, their timing was just right. Britain s feudal system had created a large gap between their upper and lower classes. The members of the lower class were looking to move up on the food chain by whatever means necessary. At that time, the amount of land you owned signified your power, but in England, there was less available land and a growing lower class. If the lower class couldn t find land to own in England, then they would have to search elsewhere. At that time, there happened to be an entire continent of land available across the sea. Meanwhile, people were being persecuted for their religious beliefs, and they were not able to tolerate this anymore. People were turning to the New World with the hope of a religious sanctuary. There was also the hope for a chance for a new start with their own religion, and the opportunity to
  • 11. Use Of Propaganda And How It Is Used By Donna Woolfolk Cross How Not to Be Bamboozled We tend to think of language as something we use; we are much less often aware of the way we are used by language (Cross 247). There are different types of communication and communication styles, for example, verbal, non verbal, and visual. Propaganda can be found in all forms of communication. • 13. How To Make A Mold Inspection A mold inspection generally takes several steps to complete. Mold is usually found in damper areas of the home, such as the basement, crawl space or bathroom, but it can also be found where there is constant moisture. Usually, improper drainage, leakage or high humidity causes mold infestations. If you begin to smell a musty odor, or you otherwise suspect you have a moldinfestation, getting a mold inspection done may be your first line of defense to ensure both the safety of your family but also that further damage is not done to the home. A mold inspection will figure out exactly where the mold is, what kind of mold it is, and also the causes and potential solutions to the issue. Usually, a homeowner has a couple of options when it comes to mold inspection and tests. There are a number of tester kits out there that you can find at either home improvement stores or on the internet. However, these do not usually provide the sort of report that you may be needing when faced with a mold problem. There will be many questions that you have, which can usually only be answered by someone professionally trained to deal with mold and mold related issues. • 14. Japan s Total Empire Summary Louise Young in her meticulous and groundbreaking monograph, Japan s Total Empire: Manchuria and the Culture of Wartime Imperialism, calls for a turn to the study of ordinary people s agency in building Japanese imperialism and empire. She accurately points out the problem at the root of previous scholarships that concentrate on the state as the sole actor in the history of Japan s expansionism. Certainly, to drag the ordinary into the swirl of history and the responsibility of its cause is not to negate the state s role, but to have a fuller picture of how the empire worked at the home front. It is interesting, in this sense, to juxtapose Wilson s piece along with Young s to understand Japan s empire at home in the early 1930s. If Young s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If one dissects her argument, it goes as follows: the cause is the four factors, the effect the changing countryside, and the young men s association newspapers as the evidence; thus, the causality is supposed to be substantiated by the evidence. However, what is found in her evidence cannot confirm the causal relationship. For example, to prove the impact of the depression on the rightist turn in the local opinions, she provides the report of the young men s association as the sole evidence, yet she does not explain the relation of this piece of evidence with the changing society caused by the depression. When she mentions the report in the previous section of the article, she only identifies the cleavage between the right and left and the exacerbation of the situation because of the Manchuria Incident. Therefore, it is confusing with not only the background of this report but its implication in terms of the relation between the depression and the local society. For the effect of the Manchurian Incident, Wilson indeed provides evidence from the newspapers that talked about the rising military demands and influence at the home front. Yet

It is imperative our society familiarizes itself with the patterns of voter suppression, so that each case may be prevented in the future. Open dialogue is critical in this matter, and middle ground must be met. For our nation to move forward, all parties must be fully informed of the facts. Only then can each citizen in this nation know the full potential of their constitutional

  • 20. Racism In Othello Research Paper Racism in the play, Othello Is a playwright being racist if they write a black character as a tragic hero? In William Shakespeare s play, The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice, the main character Othello is black and a powerful, respected leader. Tragically, Othello regresses to become a jealous monster who murders own wife. Shakespeare seems to be ambiguous about if he sees Othello as virtuous or evil. If one observes closely, Shakespeare seems to be both sympathetic and racist toward Othello by displaying his noble and base qualities. At first, Shakespeare seems to be sympathetic toward Othello. By describing Othello as a well respected general in Venice, an eloquent speaker and a prominent figure, Shakespeare shows his respect and sympathy for Othello. The fact he views himself as an outsider shows there was negative prejudice against black people during that time. Othello both seems willing to submit to the discrimination of society and self deprecation of himself. His insecurities about his race seem to lead him to his downfall. • 21. Giselle And The Romantic Era The romantic era had begun in the early 19th century and was the most innovative era for the ballet. Known for the reflection of art and literature, the romantic era was the time of fantasy, etherealism and supernaturalism. Female dancers became the superstars of the ballet especially with the introduction of pointe work, the iconic romantic tutu and themes of a lovethat could never be. On a softly lit stage lights flickered over ghostly forms. Throughout the romantic era many innovative features were introduced such as gas lighting, trap doors and fly wires. Gas lighting was used as the transition light from sunshine to moonlight for the ballet acts. Gas lighting created a mood to tell the story of a love that was destined to fail, especially in Giselle. The dark light of the second act filtered across the willis as they haunted the graveyard. Trap doors and fly wires were innovative as it gave the effect of the ballerina s disappearing and flying through the air delicately. The ballet Giselle is a romantic ballet based on a forbidden love between a royal and a commoner. Giselle is a young girl who has a weak heart and falls deeply in love with a royal named Albercht. Giselle has a strong passion for dancing however, her heart limits her from doing what she loves. Later in the ballet she finds out that the man she loves dearly is engaged with another woman. In the romantic era the costuming had a large impact on performances. The costumes complimented the ballerinas.

Examples of didactic readings from our class lectures are The Purple Jar by Maria Edgeworth which uses didacticism to teach that things are not always what they appear and the differences between need and want. While HIPEC can be appropriate for a wide variety of patients, in general, the cancer needs to be limited to the abdominal cavity for HIPEC to be used, Dr. Labow explained, adding that it can be combined with traditional chemotherapy as well. He cautions that patients must be generally healthy to undergo HIPEC with cytoreduction, as the procedure can be long and complex. Another key to HIPEC treatment is the need to be able to remove all of the visible cancer and then administer the chemotherapy. If the disease is too extensive then HIPEC may not be possible. HIPEC enables us to administer a high concentration of chemotherapy right where the cancer cells live, rather than circulate it all around the body, Dr. Labow said. This allows for fewer side effects and better killing of the cancer cells. It can also reduce the need for regular chemotherapy, although it is usually given in addition to regular chemo, and not instead of it. It gives us a new option to fight the most difficult to treat cancers. Want a referral to see Dr. Labow? Check out our free Doctor Match

What happens is that atomic hydrogen found in such substances interacts chemically with the high tensile steel in the gear, causing the affected areas to transform chemically into a brittle alloy with a risk of fracturing. The only way to counteract hydrogen embrittlement is to remove the affected component and bake it in a special oven at 375 F for 23 hours, Lind tells AMT. This allows the hydrogen atoms to migrate to the surface and then escape. Maintenance best practices When damaged aircraft landing gear comes into the shop, it costs more to overhaul than landing gear that has been maintained properly. Here is what you can do to keep your landing gear costs down. The first step is lubrication. It may sound simple, but insufficient lubrication during regular usage causes unnecessary wear and tear in many of the system s components. Lubrication is critical to the movement of all articulated parts and joints of landing gear, says Lind. Proper lubrication ensures smooth functioning, less friction and wear, and the appropriate transfer of forces throughout the gear during use. Lubrication is key to keeping out water, de icing fluid, and other corrosion causing substances. Make no mistake; corrosion is a real problem for landing gear. Before you lubricate, be sure to check the aircraft s manual to find out what substances you can and cannot use. In some cases, using the

This converter takes the finite number of signal levels (e.g., four in the Potts model) and translates them into a state with an infinite number of levels, allowing the data to sound continuous, just as human speech does. Most recognizably, sonification can also be in the form of auditory icons. They have images that correspond to a specific sound. For example, the trashcan icon on the computer is accompanied by the auditory icon s sound of a crumpled piece of paper thrown into a metal trashcan (Vogt, 2008). Additionally, the beep... beep... beep of a heartrate monitor can easily be recognized. The auditory icon of a beep relays the beat of a patient s heartrate so that physicians and caretakers may accurately monitor the patient. Model based sonification uses the data to control a model that produces sound (Vogt, 2008). This includes the human perception of pitch when filling up a water bottle; an individual can determine the level of water in the bottle (TГјnnermann et al., 2009) Water bottles
  • 39. Raskolnikov And Sonya Comparison In his novel Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoevsky highlights Sonya s pious nature and contrasts it with Raskolnikov s irreverence to illustrate how Sonya preserves her soul while Raskolnikov falls into the depths of his depravity. By highlighting the similarities between Sonya and Raskolnikov s destitute circumstances, Dostoevsky unravels how Sonya uses her piety to evade depravity. Sonya and Raskolnikov s initially awkward and perplexing relationship reflects Dostoevsky s own conflict with religion in his life, and how he eventually turned to faith as a coping mechanism and as a code of ethics. Raskolnikov and Sonya represent two separate entities fighting for influence in Dostoevsky s life, with Raskolnikov representing the irrational and irreverent and Sonya representing the holy fool . For a majority of the novel, Raskolnikov and Sonya are at odds and never see eye to eye. Their morals and coping mechanisms differ greatly. However, as the novel develops, they both begin to develop an unspoken bond, a secret between them. After Sonya reads the story of Lazarus, a dim light in [the] destitute room upon the murderer and the harlot strangely come together over the reading of the eternal book (Dostoevsky 328). When Sonya and Raskolnikov see one another eye to eye, this represents a point in Dostoevsky s life where he successfully balances his religious and irreligious beliefs and a happy medium between the two is achieved. When first imprisoned, Raskolnikov shunned everyone and spent most of his days alone without human interaction. Raskolnikov s prison experience is based off of Dostoevsky s own experiences as a convict when he spent four prisons at a prison in Omsk, on the Irtysh River. Raskolnikov s gloominess made him treat Sonya very poorly despite her unwavering loyalty to him. At this point, Raskolnikov still does not understand the sin of his murder. Several circumstances granted Raskolnikov a lighter sentence but Raskolnikov wishes

  • 48. Theme Of The Supernatural In Macbeth In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, there are many fascinating sections which could be focused on due to the suspense and the connection of the supernatural. The supernatural is what causes conflict in the play and the prophecies from the witches in act one scene three is the inciting action in the piece. The supernatural causes the forthcoming conflict by inspiring Macbethto execute Duncan so he could become king of Scotland. Through temptation, the supernatural stimulates Macbeth to contemplate arrogantly and for his own advantage. The supernatural in Macbeth presents prophecies which tempt Macbeth with the idea of power. This leads Macbeth to contradict his faithful and courageous nature by planning an assassination on King Duncan with the egotistical intention of becoming king and later annihilating other characters in the play with the determination of retaining his own powers. Macbeth was tempted by the original prophecies and showed clear motivation to act upon them. Macbeth changes from being loyal and brave to an assassin executing a traitorous plan to slay the current king due to supernatural propositions that he would be king himself. Macbeth is respected as a man worthy of recognition by other characters as evident in act one scene two. In this scene, the Captain states: For brave Macbeth (1. 2. 18). Macbeth is being applauded for his valor and loyalty to Scotland and the king. This first impression is hastily juxtaposed after hearing the prophecy of the witches

According to new research from the University of Sussex, people who use cell phones or other devices tend to have a less gray matter density in parts of the brainversus teens who use one or more devices at a time. Published in the journal PLOS One, the research is the first to reveal links between multitasking on different media devices and brain structure (Keating). Media multitasking is becoming more prevalent in our lives today and there is increasing concern about its impacts on our cognition and social emotional well being, says Sussex neuroscientist Kep Kee Loh (Keating) . It has the tempo marking Vivace, which suggests a lighthearted and energetic rendition of the music. The accent is consistently on the third beat to create the typical mazurka dance effect, and it adds interest and character to the playing. All the mazurkas composed by Chopin have the characteristic of the traditional Polish dance and evoke the feeling of nationalism because of Chopin s strong identification with his homeland. These short compositions are interesting in nature and have the strong tendency to reveal deep feelings and pathos in the listeners even if they are very condensed. The piece starts with an accent on the third beat. The left hand has a staccato note on the first strong beat and an accent on the last third beat. It is arguable whether such a pattern applies to the right hand as well, but most likely it does, since the right hand also has the accompanying layer added specifically to the second and third beats. It should be noted that although Chopin provided the usual pedal marking which changes once per measure, it is still better to execute the staccato as if there is no pedal held down to produce a sonic effect that is different than otherwise. The overall structure is a simple ternary form with the middle section divided into two repeating parts and a short coda that leads to the end. It should be noted that despite the fact that there are a lot of changes
