A Comparison Of Count Dracula And Edward Cullen
Vampires have aroused a perennial fascination within humanity since their fictional
materialization into history. However, it is over the course of the last century that
these creatures have become an iconic symbol of mystifying horror and inexplicable
desire. Recently, the vampire has undergone a significant reconstruction of physical
appearance, behaviour, and surroundings, along with, extensive modifications to its
super natural disadvantages. These distinct character adaptations are imperative when
considering two of the most notable vampires ever fashioned: Count Draculaand
Edward Cullen. The dissimilarity between Bram Stoker s 19th century, Count
Dracula, and Stephenie Meyer s 21st century, Edward Cullen, is a complex reflection
of the contrasting societies from which these vampires emerged.
The acute variation between the presented images of Dracula and Edward mirror the
different perspectives, held by the cultures that birthed them, on the importance of
physical appearance. For example, Dracula s facial description is very strong, with a
thin nose, a lofty domed forehead, and enormous eyebrows, almost meeting over the
nose (Stoker 25 26). Attributes such as these are not standard descriptors of an
overwhelmingly enticing appearance, but rather, detail an elderly or distinguished
gentleman. Contrastingly, the depiction of Edward s facial features is outwardly
alluring, with descriptions such as, flawless (Meyer 162) and devastatingly,
inhumanly beautiful
Jigsaw Killer From The Saw Franchise
Violence depends on the personality and character traits of young adults and
children. A child or teenager who has been brought up in an abusive family and
has been hit as a child will be more likely to act out against other people especially
if they have just seen a violent film. The character s of the movie will eventually get
a huge number of fan followers and the attitude s portrayed by the heroes in the film
will be followed by someone since they feel identify in there real life situation s.
The worst part is when a fan will copy the act performed, although they will risk their
own lives.
First, the movie that is easy for me to analyze will be the move Saw, which is the
Jigsaw Killer from the Saw franchise. The main actor has all
Reaction Of Iron, Nitrate And Potassium Thiocyanate
Reaction of Iron (III) Nitrate and Potassium Thiocyanate Analysis When the light
yellow iron (III) nitrate solution was added to the colorless potassium thiocyanate
solution, the color of the final solution was red. To understand why this happens, the
individual reactants must be examined. The potassium thiocyanate solution can be
broken down as follows: KSCN(aq) ↔ K+(aq) + SCN (aq). Both the potassium
ions and thiocyanate ions are hydrated with water molecules.Similarly, the iron (III)
nitrate solution can be broken down as follows: Fe(NO3)3(aq) ↔ Fe3+(aq) +
3NO3 (aq). Again, both the iron (III) ions and nitrate ions are hydrated in water
because it s an aqueous solution. From this, a thiocyanate ion collides with other

DUI Case Study
Is there a way I can get my driver s license reinstated after getting convicted for
Driving Under the Influence (DUI)?
DUI #1 From the effective date of the conviction, your revocation will last
anywhere from 180 days up to one year. If there were serious injuries accompanying
your first DUI offense, the revocation will be a minimum of 3 years. Prior to the
revocation period being expired, you can make an application for a hardship driver s
license in your local county. If the judge orders it, you will have to complete DUI
School and treatment. At any Administrative Reviews Office (do a search on the
site for Need Driver License for Work or Under Suspension), you can make an

The FR 44 will serve as proof of liability insurance and it must be constantly kept up
for at least 3 years from when your DUI Revocation was reinstated. Any, future
violations could cost anywhere from $150 to as high as $500 in reinstatement charges.
DUI #2 If your second DUI violation is more than 5 years from the first conviction,
your driver s license will be revoked for 180 days minimum up to one year.
Reinstating for early hardship is not allowed. Prior to even requesting for a full
reinstatement of your driver s license, you have to serve the total revocation time.
If the second conviction is less than5 years from the previous offense, a revocation
of a minimum of 5 years will apply. Once you have served at least 1 year from the
revocation s effective date, you will be able to submit an application at the
Administrative Reviews Headquarters for a hardship driver s license. If the judge
ordered treatment and DUI School, they have to be totally completed and you also
need to get a positive review from the Special Supervision Services Program to
qualify for a hardship driver s license. If you get the go ahead for an early hardship
reinstatement, this proof will need to be submitted at the driver s license location.
Throughout the revocation period, you have to stay in the Special Supervision
Services Program in order to keep your hardship driver s license.

Teaching Phonics Is An Essential Part Of A Child s
Education
Understanding phonics is an essential part of a child s education, as the knowledge
they develop will assist them to read and write. Educators must have an understanding
of phonics to teach it effectively. Teachers need to support students to learn what
sounds, letters make, which is a phoneme. Educators also need to assist students to
make the connection with the letters and their names, which is called graphemes
(Tompkins, Campbell, Green, Smith, 2015, p. 142). Understanding that each letter
makes a different sound and connecting this to the letter is known as phonics, which
is required for readingand writing. According to Miskin (2016, p. 9) the English
language has more than 150 ways to represent the 44 phonemes, which are
represented using the 26 letters of the alphabet or graphemes. Australian educators
need to implement a successful phonics program, which is engaging by involving
different strategies that are suitable to student s level. According to New South
Wales (2009, p. 16) phonics must be taught in kindergarten and begins with songs,
rhymes, and books. Synthetic and analytic are two different teaching strategies,
which are used to teach students phonics. These strategies are very different to one
another and are a similar method of the top down bottom up approach. Top down
allows students to use prior knowledge by using the phonemes to make a word while
the bottom up approach allows students to use what they already know or have seen
in prior learning

Four Organizational Culture Types
Acknowledging that organizational culture is an important aspect for space planners,
this paper provides an overview of four organizational culture types: Control
(hierarchy), Compete (market), Collaborate (clan), and Create (adhocracy). This
typology reflects the range of organizational characteristics across two dimensions
that were found critical to organizational effectiveness. The spatial implications for
each type are presented so that workspace planners might be able to interpret the
results of an organizational culture assessment in their process of designing ... Show

These companies are similar to the Control (hierarchy) in that they value stability and
control; however, instead of an inward focus they have an external orientation and
they value differentiation over integration. This began largely because of the
competitive challenges from overseas that forced American companies to search for a
more effective business approach. With their outward focus, Compete (market)
organizations are focused on relationships more specifically, transactions with
suppliers, customers, contractors, unions, legislators, consultants, regulators, etc.
Through effective external relations they feel that they can best achieve success.
While Control (hierarchy) optimize stability and control through rules, standard
operating procedures, and specialized job functions, Compete (market) organizations
are concerned with competitiveness and productivity through emphasis on
partnerships and positioning. General Electric, under the leadership of former CEO
Jack Welch, is a good
Burger King Case Study
The predecessor to Burger King was founded in 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida, as
Insta Burger King. After visiting the McDonald brothers original store location in
San Bernardino, California, the founders and owners (Keith J. Kramer and his wife
s uncle Matthew Burns), who had purchased the rights to two pieces of equipment
called Insta machines , opened their first restaurants. Their production model was
based on one of the machines they had acquired, an oven called the Insta Broiler .
This strategy proved to be so successful that they later required all of their franchises
to use the device. After the company faltered in 1959, it was purchased by its Miami,
Florida, franchisees, James McLamore and David R. Edgerton. They initiated a
corporate restructuring of the chain, first renaming the company Burger King. They
ran the company as an independent entity for eight years (eventually expanding to
over 250 locations in the United States), before selling it to the Pillsbury Companyin
1967.
Pillsbury s management tried several times to restructure Burger King during the late
1970s and the early 1980s. The most prominent change came in 1978 when Burger
King hired McDonald s executive Donald N. Smith to help revamp the company. In a
plan called Operation Phoenix , Smith restructured corporate business practices at all
levels of the company. Changes included updated franchise agreements, a broader
menu and new standardized restaurant designs. Smith left Burger King for

Casino Royale Book and Movie Comparison
Today, there are a lot of movies shot in the spy genre. The special effects amaze
with its inimitability and with each film are becoming brighter and more exciting. In
this paper I want to analyze one of the most impressive and most of the first films
about spies Casino Royale filmed by Martin Campbell and compare it with the
eponymous book written by Ian Fleming, which soon served as the plot for the film.
In such way it will be seen how the spy genre have been changed for decades. Casino
Royale is one of the first Fleming s novels and it was released with the absence of
big success in 1953.
The actual plot of the Casino Royale may seem too simple for nowadays audience.
In the 1953 novel, 007 is given the mission to defeat Le Chiffre, a SMERSH agent
working for the Russians in a high stakes Baccarat game. This is a situation where
the movie has mirrored the novel to the best extent that it possibly can. When the
books were written, the whole world was hip deep in the cold war which pitted
east against west. All the characters are there, 007, Le Chiffre, Rene Mathis and
Vesper Lynd. As the movie depicts Le Chiffre loses $100,000,000 of his clients
money in a botched terrorist attack against Skyfleet s newest airline. In the book Le
Chiffre loses 80,000,000 Francs in a botched real estate deal involving brothels in
southern France. Both story lines are fairly similar, his Le Chiffre greed has gotten
him into a pickle with his
The Emotional Speech In The Queen Elizabeth I
Elizabeth I is talking directly to her English troops, nobody but her soldiers, her
knights, trustable men. Her defendants and warriors are there to listen and gain
confidence for the battle to come.
As regards to the content of the document is, firstly, clearly a motivational speech to
encourage her soldiers to the battle against the Spanish Armada.
Apart from that, it is very important the way she chooses to do it, because she starts
letting the soldiers know that she is the one to trust and that she is willing to
sacrifice herself for the country if necessary, presenting herself as a Queen and a
king. The Queen is aware of her delicate physical appearance as a woman but she
claims her power and courage and a real heritance with royal ... Show more content

The authenticity of the speech is sometimes at doubt by some historians. But there
are several components within the speech mirror the real personality of the Queen
herself, such as the strong mention of God as an ally of England or the reference to
her gender as well as her desire to rule as both King and Queen of England.
In mi opinion, the speech given by the Queen Elizabeth reflects a great personality
and strength as a public speaker, something not easy to achieve. It is thinkable that
the speech accomplished its mission of motivation and that her forces were to the
battle proudfull, given the powerful content of the same. In the text, she gives
herself the role of King and Queen at the same time. Elizabeth I was known as the
Virgin Queen for her refusal to marriage in all her life, which could proved, or at
least is what I think, a wish to keep her country safe from Crowns or Kings abroad,
showing us an overprotective queen who cared much for her people as we can see
with her own visit to the troops, taking care of them and trying to help motivating
them for the
Space Exploration And Its Impact On Earth
Space has been a topic of discussion since the dawn of man. We have made attempts
to explore the near reaches of our solar system, mainly to examine the components
of other planets compared to Earth. Space exploration has been slow since the
beginning because of the technological barrier, but now that we live in the Age of
Technology we can develop more advanced mechanisms to aid in our endeavors. We
have never had an enormous use for space exploration, until we started to discover
the natural resources we have on Earth are being drained by the vast population we
have established. Just like every ecosystem on the planet, Earth has a carrying
capacity of its own. If we reach this number or keep collecting resources at the
same rate, we will exhaust the resources on Earth, then there will be no chance of
life to flourish as it has for centuries. Deep space exploration is essential to the
advancement of mankind because it will allow us to develop new technologies,
discover new worlds and resources, and potentially extend the existence of humans in
the universe. The craze about space began in the 1950 s. After World War II, the
United States and the Soviet Unionbegan what is more widely known as the Space
Race, where the Soviet Union and the United States raced to see who could
successfully launch and orbit a satellite, then eventually a manned spacecraft( A Brief
History). The Soviets launched into orbit before the United States. In 1957, Sputnik 1
was sent into space.
Algonquian Research Paper
What is the right way to spell Algonquian ?
The right way to spell it can be two different ways. One way is Algonquian. The
second way is Algonkian. Those are the two different ways.
How many tribes does the Algonquian? The Algonquian has Abenakis, Blackfeet,
Cheyennes, Crees, Gros Venire, Illini, Kickapoo, Lenni Lenape/Delaware, and the
Lumbees. There are a lot more than that actually, but I chose these.
Where do Algonquians live? The Algonquians live throughout the United States, from
California to Maine, and throughout Southern Canada, from Alberta to Labrador.
Remember some tribes were forced to move after the Europeans arrived.
What is Algonquian culture like and how was it used?
Each Algonquian tribe had different cultures and different traditions. Most
Algonquian s made brichbark or dugout canoes for transportation. Northern
Algonquian tribes used snowshoes and dogsleds to travel in winter. ... Show more

In most tribes, each band lived in a village of a small round buildings called
wigwams. Algonquian tribes of the Great Plains used tepees for shelter instead of
wigwams. Some North eastern Algonquians built long houses like the Iroquois. The
California Algonquians lived in redwood plank houses.
What was Algonquian clothing like?
Traditional clothes, headdress, and hairstyles were different in every tribe, and
Algonquian Indians could tell each other s identify from their style of dresses.
Algonquian men generally wore breech cloths with leather leggings, and Algonquian
women wore skirts or dresses.
What was Algonquian food like?
Algonquians tribes in different climates eat different food. Some of the foods are
corn, squash, and beans. Some hunters chase elk and moose and the women collect
vegetable s and nuts. Some people from the Western Algonquian hunted buffalo and
most Algonquian Indians hunted turkeys, rabbit, and
Anne Of Green Gables
In the passage, Anne of Green Gables the author uses dialogue to develop the
characters and to advance the plot. The author, Lucy Maud Montgomery, uses
dialogue to develop Marilla as a caring person and to develop Anne as a determined
person. The dialogue suggest that Marilla is a caring person because she was
concerned when Anne dyed her hair green. According to the text, I little know how
you got into this fix, but I mean to find out, said Marilla...Now, then, what did you
do to your hair? Also the text says, Well, I hope you ll repent to good purpose, said
Marilla severely, and that you ve got your eyes opened to where your vanity has led
you, Anne. Goodness knows what s to be done. I suppose the first thing is to give

and crack the hashes using probably the most widely used password cracking tool out
there,
John the Ripper.
Let s boot up BackTrack and get hacking!
Where Linux Passwords Are Stored
Linux passwords are stored in the /etc/passwd file in cleartext in older systems and in
/etc/shadow file in hash form on newer systems. We should expect that the passwords
on anything other than old legacy systems to be stored in /etc/shadow.
Step 1: Create Some User Accounts
Since our BackTrack system probably doesn t have many users on it other than our
root account, let s go ahead and create a couple more accounts.

So, let s type both: bt cp /etc/shadow ./ bt cp /etc/passwd ./
In Linux, the cp command means copy and the ./ represents our current directory. So
this command says, copy the contents of /etc/shadow to my current directory. We do
the same for the /etc/ passwd file.
Step 5: Unshadow
Next we need to combine the information in the /etc/shadow and the /etc/passwd files,
so that
John can do its magic. bt ./unshadow passwd shadow passwords
Step 6: Crack!
Now that we have unshadowed the critical files, we can simply let John run on our
password file. bt john passwords
John the Ripper will proceed to attempt to crack your passwords. As you can see, it
cracked
all three of ours in a matter of seconds! Of course, more complex passwords will
take significantly more time, but all we need is just one user with a simple password
and we have access to the account in seconds.
It s also important to note that any password cracker is only as good as its word list

The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, by Anne Fadiman (1997), is a book
that details the complicated journey of Lia Lee and her family, who were Hmong
refugees living in Merced, California. Lia had a severe form of epilepsy that
caused her to have many hospital visits and interactions with the health care
system, where she received subpar care because of the language and cultural
differences between the health care providers and her Hmong family. This paper
will identify one social issue illuminated by Fadiman s (1997) case study and

Andrew Johnson s Assassination
When President Abraham Lincoln assassination occurs on 1865, vice president
Andrew Johnson gained office. Lincoln was a moderate Republican, who wanted to
rebuild the nation without punishing the South, and wanted to give African
American the right to vote or suffrage. Before his assassination, he had a plan for
reconstruction in where he would pardon the south and allow them to reintegrate the
Union. It would only have been possible if 10% of the voters took an oath of
loyalty, but due to his dead, the 10% plan couldn t be carried out. President Johnson
was a Democrat that believes that citizenship and voting rights were to be determined
by each state individually; he also agreed with Lincoln that states never legally left

It intended to help former slaves after the Civil War, by providing food, medical care,
clothing and education for refugees and freedmen. Many northern abolitionists risked
their lives to help the southern freedmen receiving the name of carpetbaggers. It was
given to them by white southern Democrats as northerners who moved to the South
after the civil war. Although the Freedmen s Bureau was seen as a good idea for the
Northern, the Southern saw it differently, they said that they had plenty to eat and
nothing to do. On December 1865, the 13th amendment was passed in where slavery
was abolished and involuntary service. Johnson s plan quickly carried out and as a
result, many Confederates were elected in the South and the commencing black

whites power over blacks; this codes restricted freed Slaves prohibiting, for

many blacks to become sharecroppers. Because of this codes, the freed slaves didn t

The Red Guard Movement Essay
The cultural revolution is a strange period in Chinese history laced with intense
struggle and anguish. The cultural revolution mobilized the all of society to
compete for all opposing factions that they belonged to (Ong, 2016). Mao mobilized
the young people of society during a background of political turmoil, which helped
Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his political legitimacy and ideas
(Ong, 2016). Mao s charismatic authority created his personality cult and most
defiantly leant a helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016)
(Weber, 1946) (Andreas, 2007). No matter which faction of the red guard they
belonged to, they all mobilized against their common enemy; the better off, upper
class. (Ong, 2016). Multiple ideologies within the youth led red guard movement
explain why the movement gained momentum and became incredibly powerful
(Walder, 2009).
The red guard movement can be primarily explained two different theories. The first
theory is the lack of political cohesion and party factionalism among the elites starting
during the Great Leap Forward, which boiled into 100 Flowers Campaign and then
subsequently the Cultural Revolution (Meisner, 1999). It is the battle between these
elite factions and the prohibition of dissent which resulted in the creation of the Red
Guards, which in effect served as agent for the Maoist faction (Yang, 2000). The
second theory would be the breakdown of societal institutions, such as education,
leading up to
Water Extraction Is Different Than Brewing Coffee
1.The first step of water extraction is different than brewing coffee because only a
small amount of water is used. Additionally, the same bag was brewed twice as
opposed to one time. Both of the previous processes are done in order to get a more
concentrated sample of caffeine. The hot water extraction is similar to brewing
coffee because hot water is used so that the caffeine will be more solubilizable,
however a larger amount of water is used to dilute the amount of caffeine. Another
similarity is that when the hot water extraction has concluded, the coffee contained
caffeine and other impurities such as tannins and cellulose. 2.The potassium
carbonate used in this experiment is used as a base and reacts with the gallic acid in
in the carboxylic acid of the hydrolyzed tannins. When the potassium carbonate reacts
with the tannins it produced potassium salts that are water soluble. Also the phenol
groups in the catechin react with the potassium carbonate to form salts that are water
soluble. When the salt is formed this separates the aqueous layer from the organic
layer in the centrifuge tube once they are combined. 3.... Show more content on

Water is used because it also removes tannins, caffeine, and some of the pigments in
tea. The caffeine and tannins are also soluble in water because of their similar
polarities. The organic layer consists of the dichloromethane, cellulose, and caffeine.
The dichloromethane was used as the organic solvent. This was used as the solvent
because cellulose and caffeine are soluble in it because they all have similar
polarities. The dichloromethane was also used to help purify the caffeine even more
because tannins are not soluble in it. Water and dichloromethane are also used as
solvents because when both of the solvents are combined, and centrifuged, they will
not mix because water is polar and dichloromethane is nonpolar. Therefore, once the
layers are separated there should only be caffeine in the dichloromethane
Santa Claus Stereotypes
Dreams of a White Christmas Without a doubt, Santa Claus is one of America s, if
not the world s, most iconic figures. A symbol of the secular West s religion of
consumerism, Santa Claus and his twelve reindeer have hijacked the holiday
dedicated to the birth of Jesus Christ, and replaced it with the gospel of spending. As
both a cultural icon and the patron saint of capitalism, the depiction of Santa Clausin
recent years has been seriously debated. While today he is near universally depicted
as a portly old man, in a red and white suit and with a long, white beard, some argue
that Santa s image should reflect the changing demographics of the American public.
Last year, a national debate ensued after author Aisha Harris wrote for Slate... Show

. . Making Santa Claus an animal rather than an old white male could spare millions
of nonwhite kids the insecurity and shame that I remember from childhood. Whether
you celebrate the holiday or not, Santa is one of the first iconic figures foisted upon
you: He exists as an incredibly powerful image in the imaginations of children across
the country (and beyond, of course). That this genial, jolly man can only be seen as
white and consequently, that a Santa of any other hue is merely a joke or a chance to
trudge out racist stereotypes helps perpetuate the whole white as default notion
endemic to American culture (and, of course, not just American culture).
Despite the surface frivolity of this argument, it highlights some deeper issues
endemic in race politics in contemporary America. While the white as default notion
may not strike many white Americans as particularly problematic, if they even
notice it, it does make sense that children would like to see cultural images that
reflect themselves, and not in ways that are merely comical or ironic. However,
when Megyn Kelly at Fox news read Harris s argument, she took an entirely different
stance on the preferable imagery of Santa Claus. In her segment, Kelly addresses the
children and adult members of her audience by

discrepancy of 130%. The ethical issue in this example is that it costs the same price
to manufacture these products but they are sold to consumers at different price tags
in these two countries. I think that these types of pharmaceutical products should not
cost more in different countries since they contain the same ingredients as they are
used for treatment
Music and Film
Since I ve been studying hard all day, I didn t really have time to post something.
Well I would if I wasn t watching Schindler s List again, but when the mood strikes,
one should watch that film. So here is an essay that I wrote a couple of months ago
for school, which is all about filmpiracy and why I m against it. The essay managed to
get an extremely high excellence. See how different my writing is when I m at
school compared to when I m blogging (if I seem to be over exaggerating a lot this is
because I m just trying to get my point across, as I am supposed to be writing this
essay for a school magazine ):

5.3% of that is illegitimately streamed content, a number which is set to rise as video
streaming continues to grow at a fast speed. Envisonal states that 23.76% of global
internet traffic is used for infringing content. With the internet s continual rapid
growth, these numbers are set to get bigger eventuating in a criminal act such as
piracy becoming the biggest user of the internet.
People are under the impression that downloading/watching a pirated film on the
internet is harmless, when it is really theft. What these people fail to realise is that
film making accounts for over 2.4 million jobs in the US, and is a major
contributor to the global economy. The film industry isn t the only one that loses
money to piracy, as the Department for Professional Employees says the
government loses tax revenue that would have been generated by the sale of non
pirated goods. The Motion Picture Association of America says that an estimated
$58 billion in economic output is lost to the US economy annually due to
copyright theft. This has a resounding effect on the jobs needed to make films.
Most of the workers in Hollywood are on average wages even though their services
such as costume making, food preparing or assisting directors are all vital. If their
films fail to earn their budget back, their wages are cut, or even worse, they lose
their job. Films aren t just about the rich actors and lavish sets that appear on screen.

Abstract This paper will touch over the aspects of Erik H Erickson s eight stages
and how they affect everyday lives from infancy to adulthood. The paper will go
over the approximate ages and the psychosocial crisis that they will eventually come
to. Neglecting a child can lead to a cause of mental negligence in the form of Arrested
Development . Within different cultural backgrounds, this paper will focus on the
relationship of the infant and the mother, and the stresses and trauma they may or
may not have to discuss about a future development.
The biography of Erik Erikson Who exactly was Erik Erikson? Erik Erikson (1902

Anna Freud. Erikson was a psychologist known for his psychological theory on
human beings. Erikson trained as a Freudian psychoanalyst but believed that social
interaction was more important than Sigmund Freud s psychosexual development.
(Pearson 251). The word psych relates to the brain and the thinking into the mind,
and the word social relates to the way that the mind racks with those around us in the
public. So what is psychosocial really? Psychosocial is defined as the psychological
development of the individual in relation to his or her social environment.(Pearson

Of Studies By Francis Bacon Summary
Life Lessons
(An analysis of Francis Bacon s Of Studies and the three messages derived from it)
Studies serve for Delight, for Ornament, and for Ability (Lynch). Those are the
three purposes of studies in the eyes of a man by the name of Francis Bacon.
Francis was just absolutely brilliant, and is easily considered one of the smartest
men who has ever lived. During his time, he was a philosopher as well as a
scientist in the United Kingdom. He was best remembered for his classic essays,
and one of his finest ones was Of Studies. Francis Bacon, the first major English
essayist, comments forcefully in Of Studies on the value of reading, writing, and
learning (Nordquist). In Francis Bacon s Of Studies, there were a few take home
messages that could not be overlooked. First of all, Of Studies provides us with the
take home message that, studies develop into habits. This idea is one that stood
out to me the most due to its accuracy, especially in sports activities. Before any one
person can go participate in a game of basketball, they must first study the rules
and learn about the game. For instance, a person could learn to dribble on his own
with two hands and then go attempt to play with others, but they will be quick to
tell him that what he is doing is against the rules. The poor boy would have no idea
why what he is doing is wrong, and this is why we all must study before being
actively involved in something. Practice can make permanent because by repeating
ways of acting, a young person forms habits (patterns of recurrent behavior) for good
and for ill (Pickhardt). Now when you study before participating in events, you have
a much better chance to develop good habits and succeed. Most certainly, Francis
Bacon hit the head on the nail in Of Studies, with the message that knowledge is
power. Knowledge sets us free, and makes us less dependent on others (Rai).
Freedom is truly the first step to obtaining real power, which derives from the
knowledge we obtain. Knowledge really provides people with a feeling of self
fulfillment and confidence, which in hindsight will boost your self esteem. We
could be at any point in our lives, but if we have knowledge then people are going to
respect us for
Jackie Robinson Influence
One of baseball s greatest, Jackie Robinson, once said, A life is not important
except in the impact it has on other lives. Jackie Robinson was the first African
American man to play in the Major League Baseball. Jackie Robinson played for
the Brooklyn Dodgers throughout his baseball career as number 42. The great
baseball player was faced with many acts of racism, but through it all he continued to
play the game he loved. This is the story of Jackie Robinson, the first African
American man to play in the MLB.
Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. He was the
youngest out of five siblings, Mack Robinson, Willa Mae Robinson, Edgar
Robinson, and Frank Robinson. Jackie Robinson attended John Muir High School,
Pasadena Junior College, and UCLA. At UCLA, Jackie Robinson won varsity
letters in four different sports baseball, football, track and field, and basketball.
One major influence that Jackie Robinson had in his life was Branch Rickey, the
former president of the Dodgers. Branch Rickey was a big influence because he is
the one that brought Jackie into the MLB, and he was there for Jackie when he faced
racism. Throughout his life, Jackie Robinson s main hardship was racism. During his
time period, segregation was something that burdened every African American. Even
once he was in the MLB he would receive racism from even his own teammates. He
even received things like death threats. Jackie Robinson is respected because
throughout all this he
Pipeline Failures Are Caused By Undetected Corrosion Of...
The majority of pipeline failures are caused by undetected corrosion of the pipe
(1). A real time corrosion detection technique that does not require access to the
entire pipeline would allow for maintenance and repairs to be done before a failure
occurs, saving time and money, reducing or negating environmental damage, and
easing political pressure and social stigma on pipelines. Pipeline failures can relate
to each aspect of the STEEP model. When a pipeline fails, it effects the
surrounding environment by leaking hazardous gas and hydrocarbons into the
ecosystem. In addition to the environmental affects, the economical effects are
drastic. Between 2002 and 2009, pipeline companies spent over $600,000,000 on
pipeline failures (1). Social and political stances on pipelines are very crucial right
now, as pipelines have a stigma in the media because of the damage and loss of life
failures cause. If we can reduce or negate these failures, social and political support
for pipelines should grow, enabling more pipelines to be built across the world. From
my research, I have not found any corrosion detection techniques out there that do
what I am proposing. A real time corrosion detection technique would allow
companies to detect corrosion in underground/underwater piping systems without
having to excavate, or dive and inspect them. A wireless technology that can be
introduced to a piping system capable of detecting corrosion or a corrosive

Dr. Cash And The Depression
This is about Johnny R. Cash and the depression that consumed his life after the
death of his wife Mrs. June Carter Cash who passed away in May 2003. In this
case study you will read about Mr. Cash s life from childhood till present day. The
study will show how I have diagnosed Johnny Cash with Major Depressive
Disorder as well as Alcohol, Stimulant and Sedative Use Disorder from prior drug
and alcohol abuse. It is important to note Johnny states he has been in remission
from drugs and alcohol for 40+ years which classifies as sustained remission. I do
discuss how he can possibly recover from this disorder. I have chosen the method
of family therapy and behavior changes. Mr. Cash will greatly benefit from a
strong support system in contrast to the confinement he has chosen. It is my belief
with family present to offer love and support it will change his thoughts and
destructive behavior. My goal with this type of therapy is to show Johnny that he is
loved and wanted. Also that there is a way to be happy and have peace again and
while overcoming depression and continuing his sustained sobriety. The purpose of
this case study is to reveal that John R. Cash has depression and has suffered from
this disorder for many years. Johnny Cashhas had an interesting past and some of it
hints to signs of previous depression. This study will show that depression can hit
anyone, even those that people admire and want to be like someday.

Ida Garcia s Life-Original Writing
Timothy clutched the his old, worn out necklace tightly in his hands. Life is slowly
tugging him out of his circle of comfort, yanking him into the darkness. Timothy
Garcia tumbled to the ground, and slowly shuffled his way to his little corner.
The house shook again as the wooden chair hit the floor. He didn t want to face the
catastrophe and see Ida Garcia s icy blue eyes glaring down at him, making him
cringe every time.
Ever since the death of his mother, Ida Garcia had taken over the house. Unlike his
mother, Ida s eyes were different. It is not same colour: the ordinary sky blue, or
the colour of the paint flaking off of the old shed in the back of the field, or even
the little flowers that spring up by the side of the road. Not like the sea, crystal clear
blue shimmering and crashing and churning. There is not a hint of that warm wool

No.
It was the first time Timothy yelled no back to his stepmother.
The tears burst forth like water from a dam, trickling down his face. But they were
hot tears: tears of passion, anger, and sadness.
Ida, George whispered, finally coming back to his sense, let s stop. It s over.
What is over? Us?
But without an answer, George calmly walked away.
I m tired, he said.
Then there was just silence. The silence of the waiting room made Timothy s blood as
cold as the autumnal air that crept through an open window.
The air was crisp outside his cabin window. Fall s cold brush had repainted the
treetops; in other places perhaps they were a feast of colour, but the oak tree was
different. The last piece leaf fell, not with the grace of a feather, but not so direct
as a stone. It offers only a little resistance to the air, not knowing that this is its last
dance in the sunlight, its last chance to play in the woodland air and that it soon will
be lost in the sea of leaves that have already
Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso is my choice because of 2 things; First is that anything that starts
with the letter P (like my name) usually goes well with me and second, because I
am fascinated by the fact that Picasso didn t do a different type of work aside from
the current period he was in. For example, he didn t use warm bright colors in his
Blue period. It s fascinating to me because my artistic movements don t concentrate
on a particular medium and mood within a particular amount of time; I am a very
miscellaneous artist. The works I have chosen are, The Old Guitarist and Jacqueline

Three Women and Girl with Mandolin were the well known works in this period.
Later came the Classical Period which was occured during World War I which

war had put him back to reality, where he want to back to realism temporarily. Works

After his short Realism works, he went the opposite Surrealism. The Surrealism

Communication Between Rhesus Infants And Their Non...
Using the phrase instinct very liberally creates many issues when discussing the
behaviors of non human primates, and in this case mothering rhesus macaques. To
determine the source of the disturbed agonistic behavior of the mother rhesus toward
her offspring, one must first look at the environmental conditions in which the mother
rhesus was reared as an infant. The correlation between environmental conditions and
behavioral tendencies of the mother rhesus can be observed in the behavioral
differences of the mother rhesus and related members of the group, owing to
differencing environmental conditions. In addition, one must consider exactly how
certain behaviors are used as a means of communication and socialization between
individuals, as various gestures, vocalizations, and facial expressions are a common
means of communication between members of a social group. Observing the various
signal response communication between rhesus infants and their non agonistic
mothers, and comparing that communication to that of infants and the rhesus
agonistic mothers, could give possible insight in the cues that infants give to their
mothers for interactions, such as feeding. Collected social observations from these
agonistic mothers may suggest that maternal instincts are not genetically determined,
but instead greatly influenced by the social structure and environment that the
mother, as an infant, was reared in. One of the variables that should be considered to

The Seventh Man Short Story
Should The Seventh Man forgive himself for his failure to save k.?
In the story The Seventh Man a the so called Seventh Man is someone who feels
responsible for his friends death, in a tsunami. The Seventh Man should not have to
feel responsible for his friends death. It isn t entirely his fault, but the cause of
mother nature and natural occurrences. He feels responsible however because he
thinks that their may have been enough time for The Seventh Man to grab his
friend, (k) from the ocean wave but he was frozen in shock and could not move.
Based on this The Seventh Man feels responsible for the death of his friend and has
guilt for life after these events. Based on this evidence from The Seventh Man he
probably should not have to feel bad about the death of his friend but more at
peace because of mother natures decision. Throughout the story the fact is
repeated over and that The Seventh Man does feel bad about his friends death but
he really should not have to, it really isn t his fault. If his feet did not freeze in
shock he still probably couldn t have saved K. It just wasn t meant to be that way,
it was Ks time to go and for some reason he was taken by that wave in the circle of
life. Some think it could have been different maybe if The Seventh Man was not
with K but based on knowledge from the story it probably was his time to go no
matter what. The death of K couldn t be caused by The Seventh Man because he

Rilke Tone
In the book Letters to a Young Poet Letter One by Rainer Maria Rilke is about a
young boy Franz Kappus from a military academy in 1908 who sent a collection of
his poems he wrote to Rilke seeking for advice. In Rilke s letter back to Kappus he
was explaining different things he could do to improve his writing. Rilke uses
unique words in when he wrote back to Kappus. In Rilke s letter to the young poet
he keeps the tone the same throughout. Rilke s use specific word choices on
meaning and tone of his letter. In the letter to Franz Kappus Rilke keeps the tone
the same as the central idea which is beauty from within throughout the letter. In
the letter the tone is that helpful. In the beginning of letter one Rilke states Go into
yourself. Find out the reason that commands you to write (2). This is telling Franz
Kappus that if he wants to find something good to go in to himself because that is
where he will find the best ideas. Rilke also states in the text that he should Dig into

your everyday life seems poor, don t blame it; blame yourself; admit to yourself
that you are not enough of a poet to call forth its riches; because for the creator
there is not poverty and no poor, indifferent place (2).By stating the Kappus, that
you can write even if it is not a good day. Also, Rilke is trying to teach him that a
strong poet can find the beauty in any day. Rilke, also told Kappus to rescue
yourself from these general themes and write about what your everyday life offers

History 302 Reflection
Theory and history I always thought never go together and when it was required for
me to take History 302 I was very confused why it was a theory class. At the start
and throughout the class it was a struggle to keep up what it meant to look at history
through a Marxist, cultural, or social lens and how that had anything to do with
theory. The class was a struggle but not impossible as each article or monograph that
were given out for readings provided insight of what these lens were meant to do.
Even though I have taken upper division classes at CSULA and studied
historiography, history302 provided me with a new perspective on how history
progressed through time. This course brought me a variety of different viewpoints

Marxist lens allowed me to change my grand narrative view of history and be able
to see the struggle between two parties and how that was rooted in many
monographs and lectures. When we were discussing about Marxist and Marxism I
connected more closely with that than the other lens that was taught later in the
year. I always saw the struggle between two parties as the root in every history and
monographs but always assumed that it was how history was researched and
taught. It slightly changed my perspective as I now know that my lens was not
grand narrative but more of a Marxist. This allowed my progression as a history
student to be able to look at monographs and be able to figure out the viewpoint the
historian is trying to establish to the readers. I had the most difficult time with
Foucault and his social theory as it was hard to separate what I believed was
economic when it was social. Eric Avila and his cultural theory was a bit easier for
me as I felt more comfortable with cultural theory compared to social theory. This
class provided me with different monographs based on each theory that has
strengthened my skills with writing and critical analyze of historical
Persepolis Satire
French philosopher Jean Baudrillard spoke: the world is not dialectical it is sworn
to extremes, not to equilibrium, sworn to radical antagonism, not to reconciliation
or synthesis. This is also the principle of evil. In Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis, the
events and effects of the Islamic Revolution are portrayed; what is most notable,
however, are the steps taken to portray Satrapi s personal position. In her graphic
text, she illustrates her work with a sharp blackand whitecontrast, utilized to portray
a variety of themes. How can one s perspective filter the way they view the world
around them? That question is what Satrapi challenges with Persepolis, which
distinguishes her work. Through the black and white scheme, Persepolis
illustrates political and social extremism; a lack of gray area between opposing
sides of political warfare, especially from a victim s perspective. A child s
innocence is portrayed by the black and white scheme, as well as the book s
formatting, in an attempt to both politicize the surroundings of Satrapi and humanize
her existence as a regular youth who conversely resulted in being victimized by war.
Persepolis additionally has an aimed exclusion of colorthat directly refutes those who
ostracize and discriminate against Iranian people.
Firstly, Persepolis utilizes its black and white color scheme to allow the author to be
immersed in the reality of the setting shown by the portrayal of the Islamic
revolution; the sole existence of political

A class struggle between two economic divisions is not just about the distinction and
conflict but also the ideology of dominance that the have s has set on the have not s .
The most general way of understanding economic structure within a literary work is
to apply the Marxist Literary Theory. Marxism is based on the philosophy of Karl
Marx, which follows the idea that life within an economic system is the struggle
between social classes. The literary criticism is based on the belief that historical
social and economic conditions determine literary works. Marxist literary theory
examines a text containing a power structure between two groups, the Proletariat and

To further explain, the Party entrenches the ideology to remain unquestioned by
those capable of recognizing oppression. According to the Party s slogan, who
controls the present controls the past (Orwell 37). Based on Marxist Literary
belief, historical conditions determine human thought, as mind is a product of it
historical influences. The Party dominates their people because history is
rewritten in their favor. As a result, they will remain in power because their people
s consciences will automatically stay devoted under the party without questioning
due to insufficient evidence to prove otherwise. In addition, the Party is also able
to prevent rebellion by instilling doublethink into their people s mind. The
technique convinces the brain to believe something to be true when it is not, for
example, 2 + 2 = 5 . The party is successful in maintaining its power due to the
practice of doublethink in which the proletariats are incapable of questioning their
position in life: To a Party member it means loyal willingness to say black is white
when the Party discipline demand this (Orwell 221). Orwell s use of doublethink
displays an extreme form of false consciousness. Marxism describes false
consciousness as the inability of the human mind to see things, especially during an

artist RaphaelSanzio came about being one of the best of his time. Raphael took
methods and ideas from his surrounding colleagues and then he would combine them
with his own personality to create some of the best works from his era. Raphael
Sanzio s work of the Italian High Renaissance era is the result of influences and
incorporation of techniques of MichelangeloBuonarroti, Pietro Perugino, and

To make the work his own, Raphael would mix in his own personal sentiment into
his work. Without this touch, Raphael s work would simply be a copy of the work
by Pietro Perugino. ( Raphael. ) Not only does Raphael s artwork simulate the
paintings of Perugino but, it also channels a strong Da Vinci influence with its
pyramidal composition, contour, balance, and interplay of light and dark
(chiaroscuro) and sfumato (extremely fine, soft shading instead of line to delineate
forms and features). (Raphael Sanzio. ) Leonardo Da Vincis inspiration on Raphael
can be most prominently seen in his well known series of Madonnas. One of the
several techniques favorably utilized by Da Vinci is pyramidal composition.
Pyramidal composition is a device used to pull the audiences eyes to view a
painting from the top to the bottom rather than from left to right. In pyramidal
compositon the objects in the painting are enclosed in what can be noted as an
imaginary triangle. ( Renaissance Baroque Art. ) This technique can be easily and
most obviously seen in Sanzio s Madonna of Belvedere and The Canigiani
Madonna. In Madonna of Belvedere see figure 3 the Virgin Mary is the main
structure of the triangle. In her hands she is holding a child at her feet and is
glancing at St. John. Because of the pyramidal composition, it draws the viewers
eyes to begin looking at the picture from Mary s head and work their way down to
her feet where the two children are seen. Then in The Canigiani
Affordable Care Act Controversy
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), issued in 2010 by
Former U.S. President Barack Obama, has caused such a controversy due to its
way of reforming today s healthcare system. Although, the Affordable Care Act has
so far been the most important piece of health care legislation passed ever since the
Social Security Act of 1965, which established medicaid to the elderly. In recent
events in U.S. politics of 2017, our newly elected Republican President Donald J.
Trump and the majority of Republicans plan to overthrow and replace the Affordable
Care Act, also known as Obamacare, with a more affordable way to gain health
insurance named the American Health Care Act (AHCA). However, they have not
realized that modifying the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Americans were able to get health insurance even if they re sick. Insurance
providers would not be able to deny coverage to anyone who have any pre existing
medical conditions. With current President Donald Trump s American Health
Care Act already being active as law, many insurance providers can deny anyone
with any pre existing conditions such as acne, diabetes, and pregnancy (Chavez
2017). This example just proves that the American Health Care Act is a step
backwards into achieving affordable health insurance. Other changes that are
brought upon from this Act include: that states would be able to allow insurers to
charge sick people more, and making it less affordable for some. According to the
Congressional Budget Office, over 52 Million will be left uninsured due to
unaffordable insurance plans mainly coming from the lower class (Levey and Kim
2017). The younger consumers would be charged 3x less than older consumers, but
older consumers will be charged 5x more than younger consumers. Also in the Act,
federal spending in medicaid and to Planned Parenthood would be defunded and
would be left up to the states to decide if funding is needing in those areas. The
defunding of those two factors will eventually decrease the nation s deficit and use it
in something where it is needed the most supposedly. With this said, this questions the
fact that, is the American Health Care Act honestly the most affordable way to get
Steve Mcnair And The Hall Of Fame
Steve McNair was one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and perhaps could have
been in the Hall of Fame. You will learn about his life, family, career and why he
wasn t able to make it to the Hall of Fame. Steve McNair was born on February 14,
1973 in Mt. Olive Mississippi. He was the son of Selma and Lucille McNair. When
he was young, his father left the family. His mother, Lucille, raised the 5 boys on
her own in a ramshackle house. She toiled as a factory worker and money was
limited. She instilled loyalty, fairness, appreciation for education and a strong work
ethic in the boys. Steve s four brothers are Fred, Jason, Michael and Tim McNair.

He was the highest drafted black quarterback ever. That year, Steve signed a
contract for $28.4 million for 7 years, and the first thing he did with that money
was build a new house for his mom in Mt. Olive, MI. At 22, he was the Oilers
highest paid player. In the offseason that year he was tutored intensively. His
primary mission in the 95 and 96 season was to absorb knowledge and make the
leap to the NFL. During his rookie season when the starting quarterback was
injured, Steve played against the Detroit Lions the second half of the game. He
completed 16/27 passes for 203 yards including a TD. He started the next 2 games
and won both. During 1996, he played 10 games and started 4. The team went 8 8,
just missing the playoffs. During the 1997 season, Steve had 674 rushing yards,
which was the third highest for a QB in the NFL. He had the second best overall
rating of any QB drafted in the last 6 years. In the 1998 season, the Titans placed
second in the AFC Central. In 1999 Steve had a fantastic performance against the
Bengals in a 36 35 win with 21/32 passing with 341 yards and 3 TD s. He led
Tennessee to the AFC Championship. The Titans moved on to their 1st Super Bowl
berth, where they faced the St. Louis Rams. Steve became the second black QB to
start in the Super Bowl. The Titans ended up losing to the Rams in a nail biting
game, but Steve s strong performance didn t go unnoticed. People considered him a
The Public Protest Of The Boston Tea Party
A man watches a white crescent moon shining upon a Boston harbor. As he sat and
watched the light reflect on the roaring sea, and hear the waves crash against the
shore, he catches a peculiar site. Wild men they seem to be, throwing boxes of tea
into the calm ocean waters from three British cargo vessels. The incident became
The Boston Tea Party, which occurred in the year 1773 three years before the
Declaration of Independence was issued to King George lll. Through these actions

These changes could not have taken place if it weren t for King and his followers
protests. When faced with a peaceful protest, the government was able to listen to
and address the concerns of their people, and it made America a greater nation. As
much as it is our duty to make changes, it also imperative that we follow the laws
that are put in place to keep justice, order, and peace. As the philosopher Thomas
Hobbes said In the place where the laws do not exist, insecurity and chaos are the
norm. What s more, civilization cannot occur in a world that is lawless (Hobbes
256). Drinking and driving is one example. From all 35,000 fatal car crashes in the
United States 9,000 of those crashes involved some form of alcohol. Those fatalities
could have easily been avoided if the people would have obeyed their civil duty and
followed the law. Jury duty is very important due because you re helping the
government come to an important decision. It was invented by our founding fathers
as the final checks and balances of the United States justice system. U.S. citizens
work in tandem with the judge and their fellow jury members to execute an honest
and fair trial to decide the fate of the defendant. The protection of our rights and
liberties is largely achieved through the teamwork of judge and jury who, working
together in a common effort, put into practice the

Importance Of College Internship
One of the requirements of Ferris State University to graduate with Bachelor degree
in Criminal Justice is all students must complete an internship. I decided to complete
my internship at the 17th Circuit Court Family Division located at 1565 Cedar St.
My supervisor s name is Jeff Hekman. I have worked with other six interns from
Ferris State University, Grand Rapids Community College, and Grand Valley
University. We all shared a passion for justice and to help others in our community by
mentoring, advising, and guiding in the right direction. This program is for juveniles
that are serving their sentences on probation where community serviceis a part of the
verdict.
Internships provide many benefits to college students. They offer them a chance to
learn about a career field from the inside and to gain self confidence. Also, students
can learn new things, meet new people, and practice communication, networking,
and teamwork skills. These are great additions to the resume when applying for a
job. By working hard at an internship, they can demonstrate to potential employers
and references that they have initiative and are responsible. Another advantage of
completing a college internship is to test a career objective while in the real world.
Students can develop good professional work habits and to become acquainted with
people employed in professional occupations. An internship can also enhance the self
confidence as students learn self reliance and independence and develop
Insights Into My Own Feelings
Insights into My Own Feelings
Poems often give you insights into your own feelings and experiences. Jimmy Baca
wrote a poem called So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs from Americans, and upon
reading this poem, I discovered many insights into my own feelings. Jimmy Baca
seems to be angry at the fact that Americans think Mexicans take their jobs away.
The feelings I have towards what s happening in this poem is that Americans are often
victimized, a feeling of being offended, and I feel confused.
After reading the poem So We Are Taking Jobs from Americans, I as an American
felt somewhat victimized. In the poem, Baca says, I hear Mexicans are taking
your jobs away. Do they sneak into town at night, and as you are walking home
with your whore, do they mug you, a knife at your throat, saying I want your job?
(Lines 7 11) What Jimmy Baca is saying is that Americans aren t forced out of our
jobs, but illegal immigrants do migrate to America through the night. No, they don
t hold guns or knives to our throats and make us give them our jobs, but they
illegally come into our country and work for little to nothing which is the same
thing as forcefully taking our jobs away. He also says, O Yes? Do they come on
horses with rifles, and say, Ese Gringo, gimmee your job? (1 3) Saying this makes
it seem like the only way to take something from someone is by force. It makes me
feel victimized if someone comes over to America illegally and will work for
anything, it takes the work from me.
Panopticon Watchtower
Foucault himself uses the example of the watchtower in prisons when he describes
what the panopticon is. From the tower, you can see all of the prison cells, but the
prisoners cannot see the guards, and hence cannot see if they are being watched at
any given time. They do know that there is a possibility, and therefore, they self
monitor and restrict their behaviors accordingly. This way, the power becomes as
much of an internal factor in the prisoners as it is an external factor from the guards.
One could argue that the Panopticon is very relevant and present in today s society,
for example in the fact that the Internet is being monitored, and your conversations
online are being logged. You are never sure if anyone will see what you re writing,
Honey Bee Hive Research Papers
In the early morning in Illinois, a yellow and black honey bee was sipping away at a
lavender flower, which is called a wild lilac, a popular flower that many honey bees
get their nectar from, so it can bring back the nectar to it s hive. When the bee is all
done, it starts to fly back to their hive.
The honey bee flew for miles, only to see the hive is destroyed and many dead bees
are on the ground. Their habitat has just been ruined by humans, who just got done
cutting some trees for wood to make whatever they want to make. The bee, now, is
just like a homeless person, with no shelter and no where to go. The only answer is
for them to find a new shelter, that might take days to find.
This story reveals that many humans have little to
Summary Of The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Prologue
1960
The Selkie swam into his undersea cave that contained his human clothing. Last
evening he d had a vision he would find his life mate in the area above the sea
caves. He needed to find her as his vision was too strong to disregard. She was a
well built, sturdy young Scot lass with sparkling green eyes and long dark auburn
hair which flowed to her waist. He had seen her in his dream, dancing at the local
Highland gathering. The young woman in his dreams was Mackenzie Sutherland s
destiny.
He strode into the clan gathering and saw her doing the Highland fling with her
kilt and hair whipping around her tight young body. Her smile flashed as she
moved to the intricate steps of her dance. Her cheeks flushed and her eyes blazed
with a heat which drew him like a moth to a flame. Around and around she swirled
and kicked to the music of the bagpipes. As she spun around, he could see her
beautiful long legs and the sweet curve of her rounded bottom. Her waist, he
realized he could circle with his hands. Her bust was full and appeared to be a
plump handful. Her complexion was pale as peaches he d read about in books from
her world. While he enjoyed her dance, passion heated his blood, and Mackenzie
recognized she was the young woman from his dream.

Skye loved the dancing and the way she felt as the men s eyes remained on her. In
her young girl s mind, she understood the power she held over them. She viewed the
young dark haired stranger who watched her with a
Battle Of Mogadishu Battle Analysis
Battle of Mogadishu: Battle Analysis
Throughout history, the United States Government and Armed Forces have learned
from devastating mistakes and decisive victories making the US Armed Forces
superior to most, if not all, other militaries; however, the Battle of Mogadishu in
Somalia throughout Operation Restore Hope, Operation Provide Relief, and the
Joint Special Operations Task Force missed the mark on such lessons learned . The
inadequate intelligence; the ignorance of tactics, techniques, and procedures; and
absence of reinforcements cost needless loss of US troops, and crippling a
sophisticated, well equipped military at the hands of an under equipped militia using
irregular warfare tactics. Even 24 years later, the impact resonating still weighs
heavily on minds of key leaders in the government along with all echelons of military

What alternatives should Barney Consider when addressing the problem? Try going
with a company that has the same quality with a lower price and get the same
benefits that Kodak provided.
2.Should Pacific s supply policies allow for any medical staff personnel to control
sourcing decisions? Yes I do believe that medical staff should be involved in sourcing
decisions and the quality of the product. The medical staff are the ones that are using
the film on a daily basis. Communication between Mr. Rubble and the medical staff is
important.
3.What are the advantages and disadvantages of staying with Kodak or changing
suppliers? How would you evaluate these? Staying with Kodak you already know
what you are getting and have a long term relationship already. The only thing is that
you are staying with the highest price company per the case study.
4.What action could Mr. Rubble have taken prior to Mr. Howell s death to obtain
reduced film prices? He could have found out why he stayed with Kodak for so
long and if he had ever researched the other companies to find out quality, prices,
and benefits. You never know Mr. Howell might have had a friend in Kodak and that
is the reason why he stayed with them so long instead of venturing out and finding
new film at a cheaper
Yellow Light Lab Report
Abstract:
People want to avoid insects being attracted to lights at parties, so some people
take to buying yellow insect repellent bulbs. A yellow bulb as an insect repellent
bulb is strange because insects are capable of seeing the color yellow and some
insects are even attracted to yellow. What consumers need to know is if yellow light
bulbs repel insect. This lab s objective was to determine if nocturnal insects are
repelled by yellow lights and how that repulsion compares to red, soft white, or a
black light. The most important materials needed in this experiment were a lamp, a
variety of light bulbs, and fly paper. The results show that insects are more attracted
to soft white light and black light than the insects are to red or yellow ... Show more

Insects may not be as active during overcast conditions. Only two beetles were
captured during the duration of this experiment because local beetles may not have
been within range of the light source and it is still too early in the spring for an
excess of beetles. This study needs to be improved by extending the number of nights
each light is utilized and by testing the different light colors at different seasons of the
year.

The Pros And Cons Of The Treaty Of Sussex
The Treaty of Sussex includes points which support colonialism and states that the
German colonies in Southeast Asia go to Japan and the remaining German colonies
are spread between France and Great Britain. The treaty should be encouraging
decolonization movements instead of colonialism, even if this demands France and
Great Britain to give up on their own colonies. In 1914, the whole Africa except
Liberia and Ethiopia, was ruled by Europeans. Great Britain and France were in
charge of the two biggest colonial empires. During the war, they utilized their
colonies for both human and material resources. From Britain s colonies, India
contributed the biggest number of soldiers with nearly 1.5 million gathered from the
beginning of the war until December 1919. The dominions Canada, New Zealand,
Australia, South Africa and Newfoundland contributed with an additional 1.3 million
men to the British army. Initially, France had 90,000 troops (troupes indigГЁnes)
under their control for the war. Then, between 1914 and 1918, France assembled
approximately 500,000 colonial troops in total: 166,000 West Africans, 46,000

Bernini and Borromini: The Two Faces of the Baroque
Rivalry pushes man to become better, to improve, to try and reach incredible levels of
perfection. In art, rivalry between geniuses has often resulted in masterpiece. Indeed,
it was a rivalry between two men that shaped beautiful and modern nature of
seventeenth century Baroque Rome. The story of Bernini and Borromini, and their
impacts on Baroque architecture, is one of the most dominant periods of time in the
history of Rome.
Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini spent their professional lives locked
in a complex rivalry that spans the duration of the seventeenth century. The profound
differences between the lives and personalities of these two, reflected in work still
evident in Rome today, have been a hotbed for debate and praise. Always a
competition, Bernini and Borromini have produced some of the most beautiful
staples in Roman architecture, sculpture and space. The stark contrast in fundamental
design principle, shown most prominently in the sites of Borromini s San Carlo alle

Passionate for his work, Bernini was seen as charming, and a man of his word.
Amongst Rome s most wealthy and powerful, any project he set hands on was met
with satisfaction. Bernini s skillset did not end with architecture, he was also a
fantastic sculptor, painter, and playwright. His dramatic artistic value was the focal
point of his work, by telling a story throughout a critical iteration of design decisions.
With a style of sculpture that could breathe life into its contextual surroundings, many
state that Bernini is one of the most renowned artists in the history of Rome, amongst
names like Michelangelo. Bernini viewed architecture as a stage, using art, sculpture
and lighting to create a spiritual experience. He used a sense of drama to aid his
designs and heighten emotional

This manufactured piezoelectric are usually made of barium titanate, lead zirconate
and lead metaniobate. Moreover, manufactured piezoelectric can be made in any

critical temperature better known as the Curie point [1]. The Curie point can be
between 120 oC and 600 oC, which depend on the material of the piezoelectric. There
are many mechanical piezoelectric accelerometers. Centre mounted compression
(CM) is one of them. This centre mounted has fair amount of sensitivity and it is able
to stand strong vibrations without damage. The piezoelectric in the centre mounted is
set up on a cylindrical center attach to the base of the accelerometer in order to
increment the resonance frequency and the useful bandwidth. Center mounted
accelerometer is more sensitive to base movement and thermal variability than other
piezoelectric. This Centre mounted accelerometer is possible to be used at
temperatures of 250oC without a risk of any damage. The other mechanical
piezoelectric is the delta shear (DS) type. The delta shear has high resonance
frequency and high sensitivity. Moreover, it is not affected by the base movement
and thermal variability. The delta shear piezoelectric accelerometer has three
piezoelectric components. These three components are forming an equilateral
triangle. There is a mass for each piezoelectric transducer. Each one of the
piezoelectric experiences a
Theme Of Guilt In The Seventh Man
Survivor guilt is when someone feels guilty for surviving a traumatic event when
somebody else didn t. The story The Seventh Man was told by a narrator whose
friend was killed by a wave from a tsunami. The narrator was at the beach with his
friend K, during the eye of a tsunami when all of a sudden, the waves resume. The
narrator attempts to get K s attention, but he fails to do so. The fear begins to take
over when he starts running to safety, K unfortunately didn t realize the wave until
it was too late and he was engulfed. Ever since that day, the narrator has lived his
whole life blaming himself for the death of his friend K.. If the narrator would have
tried any harder to save K he would have died as well, which is why he should
forgive himself for his failure in doing so.
Guilt can change people in many different and extreme ways, which makes sense,
but on the other hand doesn t if you never did anything wrong. Guilt takes a huge
toll on the narrator of The Seventh Man, to the point that he has to give up many
things he loves. I had always enjoyed swimming, but after that day I never even
went in a swimming pool. I wouldn t go near deep rivers or lakes. I avoided boats
and wouldn t take a plane to go abroad (Murakami 141). It seems strange for the
narrator to act this way when he didn t do anything, there wasn t anything he could
ve done differently so that K would be alive. That s why he should forgive himself
so that way he wouldn t have had to give up the things he loves, his life could have
been happier, more fulfilling, and definitely a lot happier.
As soon as he noticed that the storm was reappearing he alerted his friend, but knew
that K. was unable to hear him, which is one of the reasons K. didn t survive, some
say that the narrator shouldn t forgive himself for that reason. Saying something and
doing something are different things, some might say that just saying something
doesn t accomplish anything without actually doing something, which is why some
might argue that the narrator should feel bad for what happened to K. Sometimes
when you do something it can be the case of someone to get hurt. Captain Prior had
cleared vehicles to be sent out, the ones that killed Privet Meyke in freak

  • 2. A Comparison Of Count Dracula And Edward Cullen Vampires have aroused a perennial fascination within humanity since their fictional materialization into history. However, it is over the course of the last century that these creatures have become an iconic symbol of mystifying horror and inexplicable desire. Recently, the vampire has undergone a significant reconstruction of physical appearance, behaviour, and surroundings, along with, extensive modifications to its super natural disadvantages. These distinct character adaptations are imperative when considering two of the most notable vampires ever fashioned: Count Draculaand Edward Cullen. The dissimilarity between Bram Stoker s 19th century, Count Dracula, and Stephenie Meyer s 21st century, Edward Cullen, is a complex reflection of the contrasting societies from which these vampires emerged. The acute variation between the presented images of Dracula and Edward mirror the different perspectives, held by the cultures that birthed them, on the importance of physical appearance. For example, Dracula s facial description is very strong, with a thin nose, a lofty domed forehead, and enormous eyebrows, almost meeting over the nose (Stoker 25 26). Attributes such as these are not standard descriptors of an overwhelmingly enticing appearance, but rather, detail an elderly or distinguished gentleman. Contrastingly, the depiction of Edward s facial features is outwardly alluring, with descriptions such as, flawless (Meyer 162) and devastatingly, inhumanly beautiful

A child or teenager who has been brought up in an abusive family and has been hit as a child will be more likely to act out against other people especially if they have just seen a violent film. The character s of the movie will eventually get a huge number of fan followers and the attitude s portrayed by the heroes in the film will be followed by someone since they feel identify in there real life situation s. The worst part is when a fan will copy the act performed, although they will risk their own lives. First, the movie that is easy for me to analyze will be the move Saw, which is the Jigsaw Killer from the Saw franchise. The main actor has all
  • 4. Reaction Of Iron, Nitrate And Potassium Thiocyanate Reaction of Iron (III) Nitrate and Potassium Thiocyanate Analysis When the light yellow iron (III) nitrate solution was added to the colorless potassium thiocyanate solution, the color of the final solution was red. To understand why this happens, the individual reactants must be examined. The potassium thiocyanate solution can be broken down as follows: KSCN(aq) ↔ K+(aq) + SCN (aq). Both the potassium ions and thiocyanate ions are hydrated with water molecules.Similarly, the iron (III) nitrate solution can be broken down as follows: Fe(NO3)3(aq) ↔ Fe3+(aq) + 3NO3 (aq). Again, both the iron (III) ions and nitrate ions are hydrated in water because it s an aqueous solution. From this, a thiocyanate ion collides with other hydrated

  • 6. Teaching Phonics Is An Essential Part Of A Child s Education Understanding phonics is an essential part of a child s education, as the knowledge they develop will assist them to read and write. Educators must have an understanding of phonics to teach it effectively. Teachers need to support students to learn what sounds, letters make, which is a phoneme. Educators also need to assist students to make the connection with the letters and their names, which is called graphemes (Tompkins, Campbell, Green, Smith, 2015, p. 142). Understanding that each letter makes a different sound and connecting this to the letter is known as phonics, which is required for readingand writing. According to Miskin (2016, p. 9) the English language has more than 150 ways to represent the 44 phonemes, which are represented using the 26 letters of the alphabet or graphemes. Australian educators need to implement a successful phonics program, which is engaging by involving different strategies that are suitable to student s level. According to New South Wales (2009, p. 16) phonics must be taught in kindergarten and begins with songs, rhymes, and books. Synthetic and analytic are two different teaching strategies, which are used to teach students phonics. These strategies are very different to one another and are a similar method of the top down bottom up approach. Top down allows students to use prior knowledge by using the phonemes to make a word while the bottom up approach allows students to use what they already know or have seen in prior learning
  • 7. Four Organizational Culture Paper Four Organizational Culture Types Bruce M. Tharp ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE WHITE PAPER 04.09 ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE WHITE PAPER Four Organizational Culture Types Acknowledging that organizational culture is an important aspect for space planners, this paper provides an overview of four organizational culture types: Control (hierarchy), Compete (market), Collaborate (clan), and Create (adhocracy). This typology reflects the range of organizational characteristics across two dimensions that were found critical to organizational effectiveness. The spatial implications for each type are presented so that workspace planners might be able to interpret the results of an organizational culture assessment in their process of designing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These companies are similar to the Control (hierarchy) in that they value stability and control; however, instead of an inward focus they have an external orientation and they value differentiation over integration. This began largely because of the competitive challenges from overseas that forced American companies to search for a more effective business approach. With their outward focus, Compete (market) organizations are focused on relationships more specifically, transactions with suppliers, customers, contractors, unions, legislators, consultants, regulators, etc. Through effective external relations they feel that they can best achieve success. While Control (hierarchy) optimize stability and control through rules, standard operating procedures, and specialized job functions, Compete (market) organizations are concerned with competitiveness and productivity through emphasis on partnerships and positioning. General Electric, under the leadership of former CEO Jack Welch, is a good
  • 8. Burger King Case Study The predecessor to Burger King was founded in 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida, as Insta Burger King. After visiting the McDonald brothers original store location in San Bernardino, California, the founders and owners (Keith J. Kramer and his wife s uncle Matthew Burns), who had purchased the rights to two pieces of equipment called Insta machines , opened their first restaurants. Their production model was based on one of the machines they had acquired, an oven called the Insta Broiler . This strategy proved to be so successful that they later required all of their franchises to use the device. After the company faltered in 1959, it was purchased by its Miami, Florida, franchisees, James McLamore and David R. Edgerton. They initiated a corporate restructuring of the chain, first renaming the company Burger King. They ran the company as an independent entity for eight years (eventually expanding to over 250 locations in the United States), before selling it to the Pillsbury Companyin 1967. Pillsbury s management tried several times to restructure Burger King during the late 1970s and the early 1980s. The most prominent change came in 1978 when Burger King hired McDonald s executive Donald N. Smith to help revamp the company. In a plan called Operation Phoenix , Smith restructured corporate business practices at all levels of the company. Changes included updated franchise agreements, a broader menu and new standardized restaurant designs. Smith left Burger King for
  • 9. Comparing The Casino Royale Book And Movie Comparison Casino Royale Book and Movie Comparison Today, there are a lot of movies shot in the spy genre. The special effects amaze with its inimitability and with each film are becoming brighter and more exciting. In this paper I want to analyze one of the most impressive and most of the first films about spies Casino Royale filmed by Martin Campbell and compare it with the eponymous book written by Ian Fleming, which soon served as the plot for the film. In such way it will be seen how the spy genre have been changed for decades. Casino Royale is one of the first Fleming s novels and it was released with the absence of big success in 1953. The actual plot of the Casino Royale may seem too simple for nowadays audience. In the 1953 novel, 007 is given the mission to defeat Le Chiffre, a SMERSH agent working for the Russians in a high stakes Baccarat game. This is a situation where the movie has mirrored the novel to the best extent that it possibly can. When the books were written, the whole world was hip deep in the cold war which pitted east against west. All the characters are there, 007, Le Chiffre, Rene Mathis and Vesper Lynd. As the movie depicts Le Chiffre loses $100,000,000 of his clients money in a botched terrorist attack against Skyfleet s newest airline. In the book Le Chiffre loses 80,000,000 Francs in a botched real estate deal involving brothels in southern France. Both story lines are fairly similar, his Le Chiffre greed has gotten him into a pickle with his
  • 10. The Emotional Speech In The Queen Elizabeth I Elizabeth I is talking directly to her English troops, nobody but her soldiers, her knights, trustable men. Her defendants and warriors are there to listen and gain confidence for the battle to come. As regards to the content of the document is, firstly, clearly a motivational speech to encourage her soldiers to the battle against the Spanish Armada. Apart from that, it is very important the way she chooses to do it, because she starts letting the soldiers know that she is the one to trust and that she is willing to sacrifice herself for the country if necessary, presenting herself as a Queen and a king. The Queen is aware of her delicate physical appearance as a woman but she claims her power and courage and a real heritance with royal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The authenticity of the speech is sometimes at doubt by some historians. But there are several components within the speech mirror the real personality of the Queen herself, such as the strong mention of God as an ally of England or the reference to her gender as well as her desire to rule as both King and Queen of England. In mi opinion, the speech given by the Queen Elizabeth reflects a great personality and strength as a public speaker, something not easy to achieve. It is thinkable that the speech accomplished its mission of motivation and that her forces were to the battle proudfull, given the powerful content of the same. In the text, she gives herself the role of King and Queen at the same time. Elizabeth I was known as the Virgin Queen for her refusal to marriage in all her life, which could proved, or at least is what I think, a wish to keep her country safe from Crowns or Kings abroad, showing us an overprotective queen who cared much for her people as we can see with her own visit to the troops, taking care of them and trying to help motivating them for the
  • 11. Space Exploration And Its Impact On Earth Space has been a topic of discussion since the dawn of man. We have made attempts to explore the near reaches of our solar system, mainly to examine the components of other planets compared to Earth. Space exploration has been slow since the beginning because of the technological barrier, but now that we live in the Age of Technology we can develop more advanced mechanisms to aid in our endeavors. We have never had an enormous use for space exploration, until we started to discover the natural resources we have on Earth are being drained by the vast population we have established. Just like every ecosystem on the planet, Earth has a carrying capacity of its own. If we reach this number or keep collecting resources at the same rate, we will exhaust the resources on Earth, then there will be no chance of life to flourish as it has for centuries. Deep space exploration is essential to the advancement of mankind because it will allow us to develop new technologies, discover new worlds and resources, and potentially extend the existence of humans in the universe. The craze about space began in the 1950 s. After World War II, the United States and the Soviet Unionbegan what is more widely known as the Space Race, where the Soviet Union and the United States raced to see who could successfully launch and orbit a satellite, then eventually a manned spacecraft( A Brief History). The Soviets launched into orbit before the United States. In 1957, Sputnik 1 was sent into space.

Those are the two different ways. How many tribes does the Algonquian? The Algonquian has Abenakis, Blackfeet, Cheyennes, Crees, Gros Venire, Illini, Kickapoo, Lenni Lenape/Delaware, and the Lumbees. We should expect that the passwords on anything other than old legacy systems to be stored in /etc/shadow. • 19. The Red Guard Movement Essay The cultural revolution is a strange period in Chinese history laced with intense struggle and anguish. The cultural revolution mobilized the all of society to compete for all opposing factions that they belonged to (Ong, 2016). Mao mobilized the young people of society during a background of political turmoil, which helped Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his political legitimacy and ideas (Ong, 2016). Mao s charismatic authority created his personality cult and most defiantly leant a helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016) (Weber, 1946) (Andreas, 2007). No matter which faction of the red guard they belonged to, they all mobilized against their common enemy; the better off, upper class. (Ong, 2016). Multiple ideologies within the youth led red guard movement explain why the movement gained momentum and became incredibly powerful (Walder, 2009). The red guard movement can be primarily explained two different theories. The first theory is the lack of political cohesion and party factionalism among the elites starting during the Great Leap Forward, which boiled into 100 Flowers Campaign and then subsequently the Cultural Revolution (Meisner, 1999). It is the battle between these elite factions and the prohibition of dissent which resulted in the creation of the Red Guards, which in effect served as agent for the Maoist faction (Yang, 2000). The second theory would be the breakdown of societal institutions, such as education, leading up to
  • 20. Water Extraction Is Different Than Brewing Coffee 1.The first step of water extraction is different than brewing coffee because only a small amount of water is used. Additionally, the same bag was brewed twice as opposed to one time. Both of the previous processes are done in order to get a more concentrated sample of caffeine. The hot water extraction is similar to brewing coffee because hot water is used so that the caffeine will be more solubilizable, however a larger amount of water is used to dilute the amount of caffeine. Another similarity is that when the hot water extraction has concluded, the coffee contained caffeine and other impurities such as tannins and cellulose. 2.The potassium carbonate used in this experiment is used as a base and reacts with the gallic acid in in the carboxylic acid of the hydrolyzed tannins. When the potassium carbonate reacts with the tannins it produced potassium salts that are water soluble. Also the phenol groups in the catechin react with the potassium carbonate to form salts that are water soluble. When the salt is formed this separates the aqueous layer from the organic layer in the centrifuge tube once they are combined. 3.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Water is used because it also removes tannins, caffeine, and some of the pigments in tea. The caffeine and tannins are also soluble in water because of their similar polarities. The organic layer consists of the dichloromethane, cellulose, and caffeine. The dichloromethane was used as the organic solvent. This was used as the solvent because cellulose and caffeine are soluble in it because they all have similar polarities. The dichloromethane was also used to help purify the caffeine even more because tannins are not soluble in it. Water and dichloromethane are also used as solvents because when both of the solvents are combined, and centrifuged, they will not mix because water is polar and dichloromethane is nonpolar. Therefore, once the layers are separated there should only be caffeine in the dichloromethane

A symbol of the secular West s religion of consumerism, Santa Claus and his twelve reindeer have hijacked the holiday dedicated to the birth of Jesus Christ, and replaced it with the gospel of spending. As both a cultural icon and the patron saint of capitalism, the depiction of Santa Clausin recent years has been seriously debated. While today he is near universally depicted as a portly old man, in a red and white suit and with a long, white beard, some argue that Santa s image should reflect the changing demographics of the American public. Making Santa Claus an animal rather than an old white male could spare millions of nonwhite kids the insecurity and shame that I remember from childhood. Whether you celebrate the holiday or not, Santa is one of the first iconic figures foisted upon you: He exists as an incredibly powerful image in the imaginations of children across the country (and beyond, of course). That this genial, jolly man can only be seen as white and consequently, that a Santa of any other hue is merely a joke or a chance to trudge out racist stereotypes helps perpetuate the whole white as default notion endemic to American culture (and, of course, not just American culture). Despite the surface frivolity of this argument, it highlights some deeper issues endemic in race politics in contemporary America. While the white as default notion may not strike many white Americans as particularly problematic, if they even notice it, it does make sense that children would like to see cultural images that reflect themselves, and not in ways that are merely comical or ironic. However, when Megyn Kelly at Fox news read Harris s argument, she took an entirely different stance on the preferable imagery of Santa Claus. In her segment, Kelly addresses the children and adult members of her audience by

  • 26. Of Studies By Francis Bacon Summary Life Lessons (An analysis of Francis Bacon s Of Studies and the three messages derived from it) Studies serve for Delight, for Ornament, and for Ability (Lynch). Those are the three purposes of studies in the eyes of a man by the name of Francis Bacon. Francis was just absolutely brilliant, and is easily considered one of the smartest men who has ever lived. During his time, he was a philosopher as well as a scientist in the United Kingdom. He was best remembered for his classic essays, and one of his finest ones was Of Studies. Francis Bacon, the first major English essayist, comments forcefully in Of Studies on the value of reading, writing, and learning (Nordquist). In Francis Bacon s Of Studies, there were a few take home messages that could not be overlooked. First of all, Of Studies provides us with the take home message that, studies develop into habits. This idea is one that stood out to me the most due to its accuracy, especially in sports activities. Before any one person can go participate in a game of basketball, they must first study the rules and learn about the game. For instance, a person could learn to dribble on his own with two hands and then go attempt to play with others, but they will be quick to tell him that what he is doing is against the rules. The poor boy would have no idea why what he is doing is wrong, and this is why we all must study before being actively involved in something. Practice can make permanent because by repeating ways of acting, a young person forms habits (patterns of recurrent behavior) for good and for ill (Pickhardt). Now when you study before participating in events, you have a much better chance to develop good habits and succeed. Most certainly, Francis Bacon hit the head on the nail in Of Studies, with the message that knowledge is power. Knowledge sets us free, and makes us less dependent on others (Rai). Freedom is truly the first step to obtaining real power, which derives from the knowledge we obtain. Knowledge really provides people with a feeling of self fulfillment and confidence, which in hindsight will boost your self esteem. We could be at any point in our lives, but if we have knowledge then people are going to respect us for

  • 28. Pipeline Failures Are Caused By Undetected Corrosion Of... The majority of pipeline failures are caused by undetected corrosion of the pipe (1). A real time corrosion detection technique that does not require access to the entire pipeline would allow for maintenance and repairs to be done before a failure occurs, saving time and money, reducing or negating environmental damage, and easing political pressure and social stigma on pipelines. Pipeline failures can relate to each aspect of the STEEP model. When a pipeline fails, it effects the surrounding environment by leaking hazardous gas and hydrocarbons into the ecosystem. In addition to the environmental affects, the economical effects are drastic. Between 2002 and 2009, pipeline companies spent over $600,000,000 on pipeline failures (1). Social and political stances on pipelines are very crucial right now, as pipelines have a stigma in the media because of the damage and loss of life failures cause. If we can reduce or negate these failures, social and political support for pipelines should grow, enabling more pipelines to be built across the world. From my research, I have not found any corrosion detection techniques out there that do what I am proposing. A real time corrosion detection technique would allow companies to detect corrosion in underground/underwater piping systems without having to excavate, or dive and inspect them. The last piece leaf fell, not with the grace of a feather, but not so direct as a stone. It offers only a little resistance to the air, not knowing that this is its last dance in the sunlight, its last chance to play in the woodland air and that it soon will be lost in the sea of leaves that have already

Using the phrase instinct very liberally creates many issues when discussing the behaviors of non human primates, and in this case mothering rhesus macaques. To determine the source of the disturbed agonistic behavior of the mother rhesus toward her offspring, one must first look at the environmental conditions in which the mother rhesus was reared as an infant. The correlation between environmental conditions and behavioral tendencies of the mother rhesus can be observed in the behavioral differences of the mother rhesus and related members of the group, owing to differencing environmental conditions. In addition, one must consider exactly how certain behaviors are used as a means of communication and socialization between individuals, as various gestures, vocalizations, and facial expressions are a common means of communication between members of a social group. Observing the various signal response communication between rhesus infants and their non agonistic mothers, and comparing that communication to that of infants and the rhesus agonistic mothers, could give possible insight in the cues that infants give to their mothers for interactions, such as feeding. Collected social observations from these agonistic mothers may suggest that maternal instincts are not genetically determined, but instead greatly influenced by the social structure and environment that the mother, as an infant, was reared in. One of the variables that should be considered to have a heavy

Persepolis Satire French philosopher Jean Baudrillard spoke: the world is not dialectical it is sworn to extremes, not to equilibrium, sworn to radical antagonism, not to reconciliation or synthesis. This is also the principle of evil. In Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis, the events and effects of the Islamic Revolution are portrayed; what is most notable, however, are the steps taken to portray Satrapi s personal position. In her graphic text, she illustrates her work with a sharp blackand whitecontrast, utilized to portray a variety of themes. How can one s perspective filter the way they view the world around them? That question is what Satrapi challenges with Persepolis, which distinguishes her work. Through the black and white scheme, Persepolis illustrates political and social extremism; a lack of gray area between opposing sides of political warfare, especially from a victim s perspective. A child s innocence is portrayed by the black and white scheme, as well as the book s formatting, in an attempt to both politicize the surroundings of Satrapi and humanize her existence as a regular youth who conversely resulted in being victimized by war. Persepolis additionally has an aimed exclusion of colorthat directly refutes those who ostracize and discriminate against Iranian people. The Party dominates their people because history is rewritten in their favor. As a result, they will remain in power because their people s consciences will automatically stay devoted under the party without questioning due to insufficient evidence to prove otherwise. In addition, the Party is also able to prevent rebellion by instilling doublethink into their people s mind. An artist works upon people, places, and things that incite them to express themselves. It is these things that lay the foundation for a masterpiece that goes on to influence future artists. This is how the artist RaphaelSanzio came about being one of the best of his time. Raphael took methods and ideas from his surrounding colleagues and then he would combine them with his own personality to create some of the best works from his era. (Raphael Sanzio. ) Leonardo Da Vincis inspiration on Raphael can be most prominently seen in his well known series of Madonnas. One of the several techniques favorably utilized by Da Vinci is pyramidal composition. Pyramidal composition is a device used to pull the audiences eyes to view a painting from the top to the bottom rather than from left to right. In pyramidal compositon the objects in the painting are enclosed in what can be noted as an imaginary triangle. With current President Donald Trump s American Health Care Act already being active as law, many insurance providers can deny anyone with any pre existing conditions such as acne, diabetes, and pregnancy (Chavez 2017). This example just proves that the American Health Care Act is a step backwards into achieving affordable health insurance. Other changes that are brought upon from this Act include: that states would be able to allow insurers to charge sick people more, and making it less affordable for some. Jimmy Baca wrote a poem called So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs from Americans, and upon reading this poem, I discovered many insights into my own feelings. Jimmy Baca seems to be angry at the fact that Americans think Mexicans take their jobs away. The feelings I have towards what s happening in this poem is that Americans are often victimized, a feeling of being offended, and I feel confused. After reading the poem So We Are Taking Jobs from Americans, I as an American felt somewhat victimized. In the poem, Baca says, I hear Mexicans are taking your jobs away. Do they sneak into town at night, and as you are walking home with your whore, do they mug you, a knife at your throat, saying I want your job? (Lines 7 11) What Jimmy Baca is saying is that Americans aren t forced out of our jobs, but illegal immigrants do migrate to America through the night. No, they don t hold guns or knives to our throats and make us give them our jobs, but they illegally come into our country and work for little to nothing which is the same thing as forcefully taking our jobs away. He also says, O Yes? Do they come on horses with rifles, and say, Ese Gringo, gimmee your job? (1 3) Saying this makes it seem like the only way to take something from someone is by force. It makes me feel victimized if someone comes over to America illegally and will work for anything, it takes the work from me.

The Pros And Cons Of The Treaty Of Sussex The Treaty of Sussex includes points which support colonialism and states that the German colonies in Southeast Asia go to Japan and the remaining German colonies are spread between France and Great Britain. The treaty should be encouraging decolonization movements instead of colonialism, even if this demands France and Great Britain to give up on their own colonies. In 1914, the whole Africa except Liberia and Ethiopia, was ruled by Europeans. Great Britain and France were in charge of the two biggest colonial empires. During the war, they utilized their colonies for both human and material resources. From Britain s colonies, India contributed the biggest number of soldiers with nearly 1.5 million gathered from the beginning of the war until December 1919. The dominions Canada, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Newfoundland contributed with an additional 1.3 million men to the British army. Initially, France had 90,000 troops (troupes indigГЁnes) under their control for the war. Then, between 1914 and 1918, France assembled approximately 500,000 colonial troops in total: 166,000 West Africans, 46,000 Madagascans,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 14 points included proposals to ensure world peace in the future: open agreements, arms reductions, freedom of the seas, free trade, and self determination for oppressed minorities. The 14 points served as a basis for the terms of German surrender negotiated at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, but most of Wilson s 14 points were excluded in the Treaty of Versaillesending World War I . All of them were thinking only their own nation s interests, and they did not put the whole nations and the world s interest as a reason to enforce the treaty and to fight against Germany. There were often controversies occurred among the allied countries themselves during the discussion to make the treaty. Therefore, it showed that there were lacks of cooperation with one

Bernini And Borromini Essay Thomas Thatcher ARCH 429 15 April 2015 Bernini and Borromini: The Two Faces of the Baroque Rivalry pushes man to become better, to improve, to try and reach incredible levels of perfection. In art, rivalry between geniuses has often resulted in masterpiece. Indeed, it was a rivalry between two men that shaped beautiful and modern nature of seventeenth century Baroque Rome. The story of Bernini and Borromini, and their impacts on Baroque architecture, is one of the most dominant periods of time in the history of Rome. Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini spent their professional lives locked in a complex rivalry that spans the duration of the seventeenth century. The profound differences between the lives and personalities of these two, reflected in work still evident in Rome today, have been a hotbed for debate and praise. Always a competition, Bernini and Borromini have produced some of the most beautiful staples in Roman architecture, sculpture and space. The stark contrast in fundamental design principle, shown most prominently in the sites of Borromini s San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Passionate for his work, Bernini was seen as charming, and a man of his word. Amongst Rome s most wealthy and powerful, any project he set hands on was met with satisfaction. Bernini s skillset did not end with architecture, he was also a fantastic sculptor, painter, and playwright. His dramatic artistic value was the focal point of his work, by telling a story throughout a critical iteration of design decisions. With a style of sculpture that could breathe life into its contextual surroundings, many state that Bernini is one of the most renowned artists in the history of Rome, amongst names like Michelangelo. Bernini viewed architecture as a stage, using art, sculpture and lighting to create a spiritual experience. He used a sense of drama to aid his designs and heighten emotional

Moreover, manufactured piezoelectric can be made in any size or shape desired. However, manufactured piezoelectric loses sensitivity above a critical temperature better known as the Curie point [1]. The Curie point can be between 120 oC and 600 oC, which depend on the material of the piezoelectric. There are many mechanical piezoelectric accelerometers. Centre mounted compression (CM) is one of them. This centre mounted has fair amount of sensitivity and it is able to stand strong vibrations without damage. The piezoelectric in the centre mounted is set up on a cylindrical center attach to the base of the accelerometer in order to increment the resonance frequency and the useful bandwidth. Center mounted accelerometer is more sensitive to base movement and thermal variability than other piezoelectric. This Centre mounted accelerometer is possible to be used at temperatures of 250oC without a risk of any damage. The other mechanical piezoelectric is the delta shear (DS) type. The delta shear has high resonance frequency and high sensitivity. Moreover, it is not affected by the base movement and thermal variability. The delta shear piezoelectric accelerometer has three piezoelectric components. These three components are forming an equilateral triangle. There is a mass for each piezoelectric transducer. Each one of the piezoelectric experiences a
  • 59. Theme Of Guilt In The Seventh Man Survivor guilt is when someone feels guilty for surviving a traumatic event when somebody else didn t. The story The Seventh Man was told by a narrator whose friend was killed by a wave from a tsunami. The narrator was at the beach with his friend K, during the eye of a tsunami when all of a sudden, the waves resume. The narrator attempts to get K s attention, but he fails to do so. The fear begins to take over when he starts running to safety, K unfortunately didn t realize the wave until it was too late and he was engulfed. Ever since that day, the narrator has lived his whole life blaming himself for the death of his friend K.. If the narrator would have tried any harder to save K he would have died as well, which is why he should forgive himself for his failure in doing so. Guilt can change people in many different and extreme ways, which makes sense, but on the other hand doesn t if you never did anything wrong. Guilt takes a huge toll on the narrator of The Seventh Man, to the point that he has to give up many things he loves. I had always enjoyed swimming, but after that day I never even went in a swimming pool. I wouldn t go near deep rivers or lakes. I avoided boats and wouldn t take a plane to go abroad (Murakami 141). It seems strange for the narrator to act this way when he didn t do anything, there wasn t anything he could ve done differently so that K would be alive. That s why he should forgive himself so that way he wouldn t have had to give up the things he loves, his life could have been happier, more fulfilling, and definitely a lot happier. As soon as he noticed that the storm was reappearing he alerted his friend, but knew that K. was unable to hear him, which is one of the reasons K. didn t survive, some say that the narrator shouldn t forgive himself for that reason. Saying something and doing something are different things, some might say that just saying something doesn t accomplish anything without actually doing something, which is why some might argue that the narrator should feel bad for what happened to K. Sometimes when you do something it can be the case of someone to get hurt. Captain Prior had cleared vehicles to be sent out, the ones that killed Privet Meyke in freak
