Ethnography At The Train Station
I was able to practice ethnography at the Wheaton College Avenue Train Station.
People s experience at College Avenue Train Station is shaped by their class, and
particular social sanctions are instilled which further enforce these social divisions. I
observed College Avenue Train Station in their busy morning hours on three separate
occasions. Consistently, women were under represented, and whites were the primary
race represented. The age demographic represented was between age thirty and fifty.
Many of which were dressed in business attire, although some more casual than
others. In my first two observations, I did not interview commuters, but merely
observed the environment and spoke with the manager of the cafe within the train
station. He explained that the majority of the commuters that he sees on a regular
basis are young executives and businessmen who live in Wheaton and work in
Chicago. With only a few exceptions, the commuters awaited the train with their
hands and eyes glued to their smart phones, avoiding eye contact with one another
and being generally disengaged with the environment. While discussing with me, they
often held their phones near their face giving it occasional glances, indicating that
their priority lied with the virtual reality rather than the reality of the train station.

The change from the manual system to the CPOE system was met with mixed
reactions.
Classes were held to train employees with the system and Emory used Application
Content Experts, healthcare workers that had received special training in the CPOE
system, as assistants to those needing help, and a special hotline was set up to help
with any questions.
In my opinion it was a good decision for Emory to implement the CPOE system as
it will limit the number of errors occurring and in the end save costs and lives. It
was also a good decision to roll out system out in one of their smaller units as an
initial trial run. They were able to work out some of the bugs in the system by doing

Although all of those steps were positive, they should have offered additional
training and they should make extra training available for those that request it. In

My interviewee I chose was a man I initially met in the workplace and come to find
out our kids ended up going to school together. Our relationship had been an

religious identity to me.

was born into a very tense America, due to the fact World War 2 was freshly over
