General External Environment Analysis Essay
THE GENERAL EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT
Laka Muralidharan
General external environment is composed of dimensions in the broader society that influence an
industry and the firms within it. These dimensions can be can be grouped into the following six
environmental segments: demographic, economic, political/legal, sociocultural, technological and
global segments.
1) Demographic segment
China and India account for 1/3rd of the population and experts believe that they will remain the top
two populous countries at least until 2050. China and India would contribute 65 million and 142
million new workers respectively to the global workforce by the year 2020. Both countries offer large,
educated, relatively low cost workforces, and as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, since the recovery is just a few months old, there is still a lot of skepticism about whether it
is for real and whether it has some legs to run further. I think the worst is behind us, but the future is
still uncertain. I believe that it would take quite a while, at least a couple of years to get back to the
economic levels (unemployment rate and housing market) of 2006.
3) Political/Legal segment
This segment is an area where organizations compete for attention, resources and a voice in
overseeing the body of laws and regulations guiding the interactions among nations. As the politics of
regulations change, this segment influences the nature of competition through changing rules. An
example is the global trend toward privatization of government owned or regulated firms. Firms must
carefully analyze new political administration s business related policies and philosophies. Often,
firms develop a political strategy to influence government policies and actions that might affect them.
In the global scenario, more countries continue to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) as they
seem to believe that free trade across nations serves the best interest of individual countries and their
citizens. Down the line, many years from now, we would see a scenario where all countries in the
globe become members of organizations like WTO and there is a fair trade across all countries

One of my great difficulties with Kant s moral philosophy...
One of my great difficulties with Kant s moral philosophy is that it suggests that our moral obligations
leave us helpless when dealing with evil. Kant s theory sets a high ideal of conduct and tells us to live
up to that ideal regardless of what other persons are doing. Imagine you are a character in a
Shakespearean play and are watching your father getting murdered. He is the King and you aspire that
one day you will take his place (Even though you know it won t happen, because you re a woman).
Your brother takes the initiate to kill him and take his place. I m sure you would not be thinking oh, it
s fine that he killed your father because being king is a great thing and it doesn t matter how or why he
got there. Most likely you d be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kant s idea seems to be that we treat someone as an end only insofar as we act toward him or her in a
way that he or she can understand as appropriate or justified: we should be able to explain our reasons
in such a way that the person will see the reasonableness of acting in the way we propose. Thus, for
example, Kant writes: he who is thinking of making a lying promise to others will see at once that he
would be using another human being merely as a means, without the latter at the same time containing
in himself the end. For he whom I propose by such a promise to use for my own purposes cannot
possibly assent to my mode of acting toward him, and therefore cannot himself contain the end of this
action. What is ruled out by this idea appears to be actions which treat others in such a way that they
do not have the opportunity to consent to what we are doing. So we treat others as mere means when
we force them to do something, or when we obtain their consent through pressure or dishonesty. That
s something I think is special about being human having a normative self conception, wanting, to
respect yourself, thinking of yourself as worthy or unworthy, rating yourself, especially now with
media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and even online dating sites. It s a condition that
gives a strange extra dimension to human life, both a special source of pride and interest and a
profound cause of suffering. Some animals certainly want to be

Legalizing Marijuana Debate
Legalizing marijuana has become a controversial and highly debated topic. More specifically, the
question under investigation is will the taxation of marijuana provide relief for our Connecticut s
budget crisis and shortfalls. Legalizing marijuana has been a topic of conversation more and more as
the year s pass. First, it started off with decriminalizing marijuana to provide relief to the justice
system. Recently there have several states, including Colorado, Washington, and Oregon who have
legalized the use and sale of marijuana to provide revenue for the state. It is anticipated that Colorado
marijuana tax will yield more than $140 million in 2016 (Ekins and Henchman, 2016). Given our own
budget crisis, which seems to be the topic every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The authors are a research economist and Vice President from the organization, which contributes to
their biases on this issue. The authors argue that the marijuana industry could provide $28 million in
tax revenues. The authors also argue that the taxation of marijuana will also reduce the societal risk of
engaging in the illegal marijuana trade.
Marijuana tax would be implemented similarly to the way taxes are imposed on alcohol and cigarettes.

that legalizing and taxing marijuana also decreases the amount of money spent on enforcing current
marijuana laws. This money is then minimally repurposed to regulate marijuana

Hector Monologue
Morning arrived too quickly. Hector was awakened by George, his five year old brother, a lively
brown eyed boy, full of laughter and joy.
Wake up brother! George said while jumping on Hector s bed. George was starting his first day of
school at Riverside. Luz was going to drive him and Hector there. George couldn t contain his joy!
Laughing, Hector got up and followed George to the bathroom to get cleaned up, then to the breakfast
table. All the while George kept bouncing around like a windup toy.
After breakfast, Luz drove them both to school. She kissed their cheeks, gave them tight hugs and
wished them both a great day.
When the bell rang, Hector and another student, Jose Cortez, walked with Riverside s principal to
Mrs. Robinson s third grade classroom.

The students stared at him and Mrs. Robinson encouraged him to go on with a nod.
I love my Mexican heritage and culture. It s a part of me and a way of life that has been passed down

cultural traditions, their family values, festivities, the food they ate, language they spoke at home,
music they loved and so much more. He even told them about Tally. To his surprise, the class listened
and asked questions, showing more than a hint of curiosity. No one teased him, or whispered behind
his back.
I m proud to be a Mexican. Hector said at last and received a standing ovation.
While he still felt shy, he didn t grow quiet whenever a student approached him throughout the day,

Analysis Of Terry Gilliam s The Season Of This...
Tis the season in this dystopia, controlled by pitiless bureaucrats and synergetic police. Terry Gilliam s
Brazil depicts a retro futuristic setting dominated by a relentless totalitarian system. The setting of
Brazil takes place during Christmas in an urban region that is never characterized by name but by its
contents. The civilization presented in the film is distasteful, naive, lifeless, and overseen. Uninspiring
infrastructure, apathetic socializations, and lack of sanctuaries illustrates this society and it seems to
be an intended tactic by its government. Bulky grey ducts surround the environment, which could be a
representation of inadequate innovation of technology and culture or are a reminding factor that the

Observation can be made on a macro and micro scale, as behavior of a large group can affect the
behavior of individuals (Merton, 1938). In Brazil, society is regulated and positioned a certain way
that satisfies its government. Reaching a desirable achieved status seems hard to accomplish and only
possible if conformed to the Ministry s regime. Sam, however, was offered a promotion by the master
status himself, Mr. Helpmann. Seemingly, Sam s promotion offer was possible because of his ascribed
status being the son of Mr. Helpmann s former co worker and his power hungry mother s connection
with the Ministry. The social institution in the world of Brazil is centralized to abide the Ministry, who
targets society to be uniformed and consumers. Considering the Consumers for Christ signs and the
girls who wishes to Santa for her own credit card , there is an encompassing feeling of consumerism
that citizens believe as holy. Displays of Tönnies Gesellschaft are frequent, as social control must rest
on more formal techniques, such as laws and legally defined punishments (Schaefer, 2013). Behaviors
of the people are carried with the subconscious awareness of the Ministry, hence the lack of
individualism and expectation of carrying out usual social roles and norms. Any employee of the
Ministry of Information is ironically given a badge, similar to law enforcement which speaks to the

Mdh Assay Lab Report
Enzymes are biological catalysts, usually made up of protein molecules that act on one or more
specific substrates, converting them to products with different molecular structures. Malate
Dehydrogenase (MDH) is one example of an enzyme that catalyzes oxaloacetic acid and NADH into
malic acid and NAD+ as part of the citric cycle. In order to perform the MDH assay, a solution of pure
MDH was collected from bovine heart. A control assay was performed, along with three experimental
groups to test concentration, pH, and temperature. Units of activity were calculated and showed that
all three variables have an effect on enzyme activity. MDH was shown to have an optimum pH,
concentration, and temperature at which enzyme activity was at its highest ... Show more content on

It was hypothesized that as the enzyme concentration increases, the reaction rate increases. Also that
as the pH moves away, both increasing and decreasing, from the optimum pH (7.5) the reaction rate
decreases. Lastly, as the temperature moves away, both increasing and decreasing, from the optimum
temperature (37 oC) the reaction rate decreases. All of the results, as described below, were consistent
with the hypothesis that was made. As the results show in Figure 1, as the concentration of enzymes is
increased, the units of activity also increased with the maximum being 0.0622 µmol/min at 1X
concentration. This may be because when the enzyme is in a higher concentration there is more
catalyst present, causing the reaction rate to increase. As Figure 2 shows, altering the pH, either higher
or lower, had a negative effect on the reaction rate. This indicates that the optimum pH for this
reaction is approximately 7.5, giving a rate of 0.0622 µmol/min. It is possible that altering the pH to
extreme highs or lows causes the configuration of the enzyme to be altered and inhibits the
biochemical system. The results also show that temperature has an affect on the reaction

The Development Of New Zealand Art From The 20th Century
The development of New Zealand Art from the 20th into the 21st Century
New Zealand is home to various great artists who have crafted and created a platform for current, new
and upcoming New Zealand artists. Throughout the 19th Century New Zealand artwork was
predominantly based around New Zealand s scenery, artists during the 20th Century such as Rita
Angus demonstrated through her artworks landscapes and sceneries of New Zealand whereas other
New Zealand artists such as Gordon Walters incorporated suitable Maori patterns and styles in his
artworks.
During the 20th Century it was apparent that New Zealand artists such as Colin McCahon was heavily
influenced by international artists and their artworks, adapted the style of cubism and began to use in
his own works. In the late 20th Century New Zealand began to acknowledge culture and diversity
within the country, it was then a beginning for Maori artists to become common and known of where
many would unite European modernism with traditional Maori features together. A notable Maori
artist being the late Ralph Hotere, who during his time was New Zealand s highest selling artist.
Hotere plays a significant role in not only in New Zealand art history but Maori history too as he
broke barriers of being a Maori artist, other current artists such as Shane Cotton and Michael
Parekowhai are also important as they are successful modern, Maori artists.
Numerous artists who compose contemporary Maori artworks also associate their work

The Argument Against The Existence Of God
HJ McCloskey in 1968 wrote a paper that tried to argue against different Christian philosophy
theories. He tried to argue against the existence of God, specifically in the Cosmological Argument
and Teleological arguments. He also tries to use the existence of evil as an argument against the
existence a God. His arguments ultimately show a lack of understanding. A lack of understanding of
these basic christian arguments and basic Christian theology. The issue at the very beginning of this
article is that of differing definitions. McCloskey comes out with talking about Christians not having
proofs, and how he will refute them. He is continually using this language throughout the article. The
problem is that a Christian would not define the arguments as proofs. A proof, when defined, has the
idea that you are 100 percent certain that you are right about your thesis. It is really more of a
scientific or mathematical term. The Christian would argue that you can never completely know if
God is real. There is an element of faith involved. Instead of saying we are going to use proofs to
prove God, it is probably more accurate to believe to use the word argument. Instead of proofs, a
Christian is coming up with the best possible answers to the questions of the universe. On one hand
this may upset the atheist. The atheist may wonder why you would believe in something that you
cannot one hundred percent prove. This is faulty thinking, in that there many things that we do not

Essay about Tim O Brien s the Things They Carried
Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried is not a novel about the Vietnam War.
It is a story about the soldiers and their experiences and emotions that are brought
about from the war. O Brien makes several statements about war through these dynamic
characters. He shows the violent nature of soldiers under the pressures of war, he
makes an effective antiwar statement, and he comments on the reversal of a social deviation
into the norm. By skillfully employing the stylistic technique of specific, conscious
detail selection and utilizing connotative diction, O Brien thoroughly and convincingly makes
each point.
The violent nature that the soldiers acquired during their tour in Vietnam is
one of O Brien s predominant themes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole concept is metaphoric, based on the connotations of key words; nevertheless, it is
extremely
effective in conveying O Brien s theme.
O Brien makes a valid, effective antiwar statement in The Things They Carried.
The details he includes give the reader insight into his opinions concerning the
Vietnam War and the draft that was used to accumulate soldiers for the war. While thinking of
escaping to Canada, he says: I was drafted to fight a war I hated. . .The American
war seemed to me wrong (44). O Brien feels that U.S. involvement in Vietnamese affairs
was unnecessary and wasteful. He includes an account of his plan to leave the country
because he did not want to risk losing his life for a cause he did not believe in. Here
O Brien shows the level of contempt felt towards the war; draft dodging is dangerous. He was
not a radical antiwar enthusiast, however, for he takes only a modest stand against the
war (44). While not condoning the fighting, he does not protest the war except for
minimally, peacefully, and privately doing so. His dissatisfaction with the drafting
process is included in his statement, I was a liberal, for Christ s sake: if they needed
fresh bodies, why not draft some back to the stone age hawk? (44). O Brien s point of drafting only
those who approve involvement in the war is clearly made while his political
standpoint is simultaneously revealed. The

Future Development of Telepathology
With telemedicine becoming so popular in the healthcare system, it is not surprising that telepathology
is also becoming more and more popular. Technology has been, and continues, to improve on a regular
basis. Telepathology is not a new concept in the telemedicine arena. Even with the wide availability to
doctors and physicians, there has been a slow adoption of telepathology in everyday practice. High
operating and maintaining costs used to be the main reason physicians gave for not accepting
telepathology, but now most of the negative attitudes are contributed to the lack of education and clear
guidelines (Cross, 2002, p. 14) for new incorporators of telepathology. There is no secret that the
current system has problems, including incompatibility within systems, and the expensive
microscopes that are dedicated to telepathology, but future developments are being researched and
produced to help offset the high costs. Low cost internet solutions, videoconferencing, integrated
digital pathology workstations, and virtual microscopes are just a few of the developments in the
works. Low Cost Internet Solutions One of the most ideal situations for the future of telepathology
would be the creation of one universally compatible system that wouldn t require expensive
microscopes to be dedicated exclusively for the field of pathology (Cross, 2002). Professor Peter
Purness and Dr Jeremy Rashbass researched the vision described above. They discovered that creating

The Representation Of The Quetzalcoatl ( Feathered Serpent...
The artist was either male or female, we don t know exactly, but we do know they were from the
Mixtec culture that included the regions of Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Ouebla, Mexico. Furthermore
knowing the artists culture we have a better understanding of the significance of the representation of
the Quetzalcóatl (feathered serpent) on this three dimensional plate. The plate itself seems to be 10
inches wide and symmetrical. The feathered god covers the whole diameter of the plate. Though it s
called a plate, we can speculate that this wasn t a traditional plate for food, but rather than a plate to
show sacredness of the mighty god. The artist s palate of colors that they chose is red, brown and
white.
In the artist s palate, the color red is very relevant to the subject of Quetzalcóatl. This color covers the
whole plate showing how significant red is to this piece of artwork. Correspondingly this red isn t a
normal bright red, but more of a mahogany red to represent the symbolism of blood within the story of
Quetzalcóatl. The Indianapolis Musuem of Art explains, Quetzalcóatl was an important Mesoamerican
hero god who created humanity from his own blood. 1 The red symbolizes blood because of the
connection of the color red, blood is red and also this piece is mostly red, so we can speculate that the
artist chose the color red to connect the story of Quetzalcóatl making humanity from his own blood.
Similarly the brown on the serpent, even has a reddish tint to it. It is evident

Solid Wood Hardwood Wood Flooring
Solid wood flooring will last more than 100 years, and the finish can be easily renewed when needed.
Just having wood floors increases the value of your home.
Not too long ago, the only choice you had was the old fashioned solid wood tongue and groove strips
in maple or oak. Today, wood flooring can be planks from old barns, exotic woods, pre finished
engineered wood strips which eliminate the dust and disruption of finishing on site. You even can have
wood laminate flooring, which isn t wood, but looks like wood at a much lower cost.
SOLID WOOD FLOORING Solid wood floors, although beautiful, can t be used everywhere. They
must be nailed to a sub floor. This makes solid wood unsuitable for use directly over concrete.
Adding a sub floor between the concrete and the wood flooring might result in a height problem where
the floor meets an adjoining room. Moisture causes wood to expand, so it s not appropriate in
basements. Humidity can lead to squeaking and buckling.
The trend seems to be for homeowners to buy wood flooring with a factory applied finish. This
eliminates dust from sanding, fumes from finishing, and waiting before the floor can be walked on.
Another benefit is that the factory finishes are usually much tougher than the polyurethane applied in
the field.
The downside of pre finishing is that since that floor doesn t get sanded after it s installed, there are
slight bumps and dips where the sub floor isn t perfectly level, and where the flooring strips

The story A Blizzard under blue sky by Pam Houston is about a woman who is not happy and very
depressed. She makes a decision to go out into the wilderness. The woman believes that this adventure
is the best cure for her even if it means death. She refuses to take any drugs that her doctor tries to
prescribe her. She suffers from depression. Her friend Alex is very concerned about his friend and

decided to go on her winter camping trip anyway. It was like something was calling her out there. But
in the event of her wilderness trip she was starting to feel better. There was a positivity her in her life
that was growing and the depression had started to fade by the activities she is doing. Her experience
of sleeping in below freezing caves, digging out of a snow barricades with the help of Jackson and
Hailey. She was doing things her and her dogs would never have dreamed of. She admits that her very
cold and freezing adventure has helped her appreciate the beauty of life and her winter wilderness
experience. She was starting to feel like she belong and was appreciating the value of her life and her
surroundings. A Blizzard under blue sky gave her a new lease on life and a spark of rejuvenation.

Law Problems A Health Football Club Faced
This paper focuses on analyzing the a few questions about a series of law problems a Health Football
Club faced, those questions concern formation of contract, some remedies can be applied through
relevant law knowledge. In this case, it is essential to whether the action of HFC that inviting season
ticket holder to renew for next season is an offer or not. In some point of view, it should be an offer. it
can also be an invitation to treat without the certain term of price of £700 for all applications received
before May 5th , so the contract is legal binding automatically when offer accepted by offeree.
According to general law principle, an offer must be clear on certain terms and must be communicated
to the other party, a vague information the offeror given would be regarded as an invitation to treat and
mere buff or boast. Obviously and generally, a normal advertisement locally would be an invitation to
treat, which is not enforceable to be an offer such as case of Partridge v Crittenden(1968), but if there
are some specific set of terms in order to create legal relations, an offer can be found. See example of
Blackpool Fylde Aero Flying Club Ltd v Blackpool Borough Council(1990). The fact is Liam sent a
letter on April 28th, it takes long time than expected and received by HFC on May 7th, so HFC
terminated old offer with £700, and regard the acceptance as a one of an new offer with £850.
Nevertheless, it holds that Liam does not owe £175 to HFC. It stands to reason

Immediately after Rick has received the film s first star close up, Casablanca yields its first shot from
the point of view of a single individual at nine minutes into the film when Rick observes the German s
attempt to enter. For most of the remainder of the film, Rick s point of view is privileged, and his face
and body are centered. This is especially true when he is in the company of Victor Laszlo, who is
regularly consigned to the margins of the frame throughout the sequence when Rick first encounters
Ilsa and her husband in the cafe. All of this seems natural because the film has so carefully constructed
the viewer as a secret sharer in Rick s vision. The innumerable choices that are made in the production
of each shot in Casablanca are concealed by our acceptance of Rick as our surrogate. Although few
would find reason to object, the film chooses to deprive Laszlo of a flashback, not to mention an As
Time Goes By to unite him with Ilsa.
Ray points out that this concealing of the necessity for choice also governs the thematic paradigm in
Casablanca. The film invites the audience to identify with Rick rather than Laszlo even though official
American wartime sentiments are consistently voiced by Laszlo. Rick regularly insists upon
unmediated self interest, I stick my neck out for nobody , I m the only cause I m interested in , a
position that Ferrari explicitly identifies with a discredited American tradition: My dear Rick, when
will you realize

The Important Beliefs Celebrated at Easter and How They are Celebrated
Easter Sunday comes at the end of holy week which consists of many days which have a significant
meaning. The six weeks leading up to easter is called lent and this is celebrated by many people giving
up one of their luxuries, for example, chocolates and sweets. They do this because they are
remembering when jesus was in the desert and was tempted by the devil and how jesus rejected his
offer. During the time of lent, comes a day called ash Wednesday which certain churches have the
ceremony of putting ash on to the foreheads of people as a symbol of receieving forgiveness.

Good Friday remembers how jesus was crucified which is a serious and sombre occasion. It is called
Good Friday because people remember how jesus sacrificed his own life to save mankind. The
anglican, Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches are stripped of all colourful decorations, crosses,
candles and hangings. This is to remind the worshipers of the fact that jesus felt deserted and desolate
on the cross. On Good Friday, when people attend the church, the story of The Passion is read, and in
some churches the priest will enveil a crucifix and say this is the wood of the cross on which the
saviour of the world died. The people will then walk up to the alter to kiss the feet of the carved christ
as a mark of respect. Free churches will not have the same ritual, but they will have a service in which
the Passion story is read and thanks will be given to Jesus for going on the cross and saving humanity
from their sins.
Easter Saturday is when Roman Catholic, Orthodox and many Anglican churches keep an easter vigil
on the Saturday evening. The congregation gather outside the church where a bonfire is burning. A
large candle is brought out, called the Paschal candle. It has a cross on it and the greek letters alpha
and omega. The priest places five

Effect Of Advertising On Children Essay
Effect of Advertising on Children Advertising is something that everyone sees, whether that be driving
down the road, listening to the radio, or watching television everyone is bound to see some. Children
growing up today cannot go a day without checking Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. These children
are always on their phones or watching television so they see these advertisements hundreds of times a
month. When watching television, it is impossible not to see an advertisement about sugary or fast
food, alcohol, or sexual advertisements which are all affecting today s children and adolescents.
Although most of these advertisements are focused towards adults, they hit children and adolescents
the hardest. In late April of 2011 the New York times published a story about the use of cartoon
characters in the commercials of cereal brands. In this article, they speak about the Federal Trade
Commission enacting new rules on big name cereal brands such as Fruit Loops. The guidelines
released by the Federal Trade Commission included television and print ads, Web sites, online games
disguised as camouflaged advertisements, social media, product placement in movies, the use of
movie characters in cross promotions and fast food children s meals (Neuman). As this article was
published in 2011 I remember how many different cereal advertisements there were on television
when I watched, but, now a day I see much less advertisements about these overly sugary cereals in
part due to

Joseph M. Juran s Life
Joseph M. Juran lived a long life comprised of many accomplishments. Using his natural gifts of
intelligence, Juran went from being a poor immigrant to being known for his quality control expertise.
He has also been known as the father of quality, and even a quality guru. This paper gives insight into
Jurans life and how he was able to work his way up to his many accomplishments.
Joseph was born in Braila, Romania in December of 1904. Five years later his father, Jakob Juran,
departed Romania and came to the United States in order better the life of his family. Three years pass
by and Joseph s father had finally earned enough money to bring his family to the United States. The
Juran family decided to settle down in Minneapolis, Minnesota and even though they were very
hopeful, poverty still took control of their lives.
During his childhood, Joseph surprisingly excelled at learning. He was so far ahead of the average
students that he eventually skipped the equivalent of four grade levels (Joseph M. Juran, 2000). In
1920, Joseph enrolled at the University of Minnesota and a short four years later graduated with a B.S.
in Electrical Engineering. After returning to school, about a decade later, Joseph received a J.D. in
Law at Loyola University in 1935.
In 1924, soon after graduation, Joseph started working at Western Electric. At Western Electric Joseph
worked within the inspection department of the famous Hawthorne Works located in Chicago.

Romanticism. He studied art at age 17 and academic painter, Baron Pierre Narcisse Guerin, mentored
him. He learned from the romantic Landscapist and used some of their techniques. Early on in his life,
he demonstrated the influence that Michelangelo and Peter Paul Rubens, two excellent artists, had on
his painting. Delacroix intensely studied Michelangelo s modeling of figures and the matter of life or
death he brought to the canvas. He was also deeply affected by Rubens treatment of color. Romantic
artist play around with emotions, divinity found in nature and the sense of creativity or imagination.
He developed his own style over the years and had a unique approach with color. His style was to
show pain and suffering in his work through bright colored canvases which exploded with energy.
Delacroix s use of color was influential in the development of Impressionist and also of Post
Impressionist painting. His inspiration came mostly from historical or contemporary events or
literature, and also the visit to Morocco in 1832 provided him with further exotic subjects. Delacroix
Debuted at the Paris salon of 1822 where he exhibited his first painting Dante and Virgil in hell which
was inspired by Dante s Divine comedy but influenced by Michelangelo and Paul Peter Rubens style

Indonesi A Model For Democracy
From being ruled by an authoritative government, Indonesia now has become a model for democracy
in Asia. Over the years, Indonesia has slowly made the transition to democracy. Its new presidential
election is clear evidence of this transition because the Indonesians chose to elect a common man to be
the president: an official who they thought would understand their struggles. Within 15 years,
Indonesia has transitioned from a bureaucratic authoritarian regime to a formal presidentialism. The
newly elected president has already taken steps toward implementing his reforms which consists of
pushing to cut down fuel subsidies, getting rid of corruption and encouraging new businesses to invest
in Indonesia by giving them tax incentives. These are clear signs that consolidated liberal democracy
in Indonesia has already taken place and that Indonesia will continue to be a democratic country in the
future.
Historians study history because they find it interesting and want to keep a thorough record of events.
However, political scientists study history in order to theorize and predict what caused certain events
and how history will have an impact on the future. One of the most important theories in political
science is Lipset s modernization theory. The first part of the theory states as societies become more
modern, they inevitably become more democratic. The second part of this theory is that democracies
lacking economic and cultural status tend not to last. Modernization only aids

Sleep Deprivation Is A Common Problem
Intricate human bodies are much like carefully crafted machines. Each function has a purpose, and
each need has a particular function. And, much like a machine, bodies can replenish their power,
repair themselves, and fail and break down. One particular necessity for human bodies is sleep, and if
not acquired, numerous complications can emerge. Sleep deprivation is a common problem that is all
too often overlooked as a mere loss of a night s rest. What most people do not realize is the potential
problems sleep deprivation can cause. From undesired grouchiness and uninhibited yawns, to constant
illness and a failing mental state, sleep deprivation is condition that is nothing to be taken lightly. In
fact, it can cause an otherwise healthy person to slowly shut down and break, just as a machine does
without power. Sleep deprivation is simply the state of not having enough sleep. It can affect anybody,
and has become an ever increasing peril in today s world. Consequently, according to the National
Sleep Foundation s inaugural Sleep Health Index™, as of December, 2014, Forty five percent of
Americans say that poor or insufficient sleep affected their daily activities at least once in the past
seven days, To fully understand Sleep deprivation though, the knowledge of the process of sleeping
must be obtained. Sleep is a crucial component of every human s regime. Not only does the process of
sleep provide essential benefits to the human body, as does the actual

We live in a society filled with norms, solid framework and expectations. We are expected not to fart
at meetings or to tell every stranger we meet about our sexual preferences. Although it may seem that
these appropriate behaviors are a pure reflection of our true selves it is not, according to
psychoanalytic Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. All humans have deeply stored inside their brains a
subconscious mind, which is where all our truly desires are suppressed. These desires can be
expressed differently. To take an example: Writers are often able to access a collective unconscious

His fears are in the way for his desires and dreams: There are books I haven t read yet. I ve never been

suppressed his fears and has developed mentally. He has grown. The second time he meets the troll he

wanted to. All this experience in life is just perfect for the troll You have grown in life and experience.
More to eat. More for me. (p. 6, l. 38). Just as Jack and Louise are about to kiss, the troll appears. Yet

to be eaten, and his selfish self pushes forward Louise, even though he loves her so much. In this case
Jack acts out of mere selfishness. And at the tip of death, his evil true self is revealed. The troll sniffs
Louise but refuses to eat her because she is innocent: She is innocent, it said. You re not. I want you

Essay about The Visual Culture
The Visual Culture
Over the past few decades, enhancements in the visual fields have greatly improved, giving weight on
the importance of visual material in text. Something that is more visually stimulating can usually
make a text more convincing or credible. The term seeing is believing proves this fact. As humans, we
tend to believe something if we can actually see it, which is why Jay David Bolter has referred to this
phenomenon of the changed role of text and graphics as the visual culture in his book Writing Space.
Mere words no longer seemed adequate; they had to share their space with images. (Bolter, 69).
As Bolter describes the visual culture that we are immersed in, in this day and age, ... Show more

An example is that of headlines in the news. In such headlines that use visual metaphors, there is
usually a visual image and the point is to turn the analytic content of the headline into something
sensual. The image is merely used to confirm the puns of words that are being used in headlines and
other things. Bolter says, The dialectic of word and image in... advertisements can be commonplace or
sophisticated, but in each case there is a changed relationship in which the image is magnified at the
expense of the prose. Words no longer seems to carry conviction without the reappearance as a picture
of the imagery that was latent in them, (Bolter, 54).
Interesting, too, is the fact that Bolter mentions emotional tactics involved in emails and instant
messaging. How fascinating it is to realize that we have actually put different emotional faces to
express how we are speaking through IM s and e mails. To think that we have come so far in this
visual culture that we need icons and pictures to express how we are feeling through writing. As if the
text was not enough to describe how we are feeling, it is far more simpler to just use images like these:
J or L.
There are some negatives to the use of images along with textual writing. With our new advancements

Jet Blue Airways Corporation, a passenger transportation company that provides 93 destinations in 28
states in the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S.
Virgin Islands, and 19 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America (Yahoo Finance). Jet Blue
Airways Corporation is based in Long Island City, New York.
Financial Ratio Analysis
After computing the current ratio of Jet Blue Airways, there was a decrease from 2014 of 0.62 to 0.60
in 2015. This was a result of an increase of current liabilities that superseded the increase of current
assets. The decrease in ratio between the respective years denote the inability for the company to pay
off its most recent debts within a short period of time. Jet Blue current ratio falls extremely below the
average among the airline industry of 0.81 (CSI Market). In 2015, Jet Blue Airways acid test ratio
showed a slight increase to 0.45 from its former 0.44 rate in 2014. Consequently, the company s
increased ability to pay off its debt with its most recent assets. Combined the acid test ratio and the
current ratio, shows that the even though Jet Blue had a decrease in the current ratio, is had a much
higher immediate liquidity status due to the fact of a 52% increase in short term investments. In

Leadership Styles Of Mohandas Gandhi
For ages world leaders have practiced different styles of leadership and they have been successful in
accomplishing many things from regional peace to world wars. Whether be political, tyrannical, or

leadership styles. World leaders have built respect and trust from developed personalities or
communication styles to motivate and inspire others into action. All leaders can learn from past
success and mistakes of any world leader. In this paper we are going to look at the practices and
leadership styles of Mohandas Gandhi and a brief comparison and contrast of leadership styles to

Mohandas Gandhi was born in 1869 in the Bombay region of Porbandar, Gujarat (DuToit, 1996). He

Philosophy Paper 1
John Locke believes our ideas originate from intuitive knowledge based on our own experiences.
Locke states, We know that we exist on immediate reflection because of the nature of consciousness,
not because of any poor knowledge hidden within us (pg. 201). In this quote, Locke explains how his
ideas originate. He believes that our knowledge is based on experience of what we learn in nature
rather than in a pre existing hidden knowledge. This belief is what is usually called the white paper or
tabula rasa theory (pg. 201).

Some examples of secondary qualities are taste, color, and smell. In all these examples, perceptions
fuel our mind with what we see and how we see it. An apple can look very shiny and can have the
appearance of being red, but those are only perceptions of our mind.
It is possible to obtain certain knowledge from matters of fact because both sides of an argument in
matters of fact can be conceivable. Therefore, one would have both sides or opinions to an idea which
would lead people to obtain certainty.
Hume s fork of knowledge represents a metaphorical fork of two beliefs that seem to contrast amongst
each other. The specific beliefs in the fork of knowledge are relations of ideas and matters of fact. The
first side is called relations of ideas. Relations of ideas are propositions known with perfect certainty
that can be demonstrated using the mind alone. Thus, they do not rely on the existence of anything
(beyond the mind). If one would deny a specific relation of idea statement, the sentence would end up
sounding in an absurd and nonsense fashion. For example, if someone stated the fact; all triangles
have three sides, its opposite would be, not all triangles have three sides. This statement is nonsense
because a shape or figure that has three sides to it is and always will be a called a triangle. Thus,
relations of ideas must be true statements. These carry the weight of necessity because they are
essentially necessary

Paternal Leave Model
Paternal Leave
Another portion of the family model that is changing for fathers is the aspect of paternal leave. In
Canada, the amount of paternal leave offered for families is 35 weeks and originally had to be split
between the two parents. The Global News reported that the 2018 federal government budget included
a five week, use it or lose it incentive for new dads to take parental leave with the statement that this
will help families balance or reconcile work and family responsibilities (Blatchford, 2018). Marshall
(2008) explored the traditional use of the parental leave; initially revealing it as primarily allocated to
the mothers. Marshall noted that assuming parental leave is primarily a mother s benefit makes it
difficult for fathers to take leave as it fuels conflicts in the workplace culture and societal expectations
about the appropriate behaviour for men (Marshall, 2008). However, evidence from Statistics Canada

Drones, that all
INTRODUCTION As a human when we employ power by facts and evidence gathering with all the
tools at our disposal, they can have a significant impact. So then will we use the new technology of
unmanned aerial vehicles, drones, to create power for our stories? First of all we have to try to define
what the word drone encompasses. In the spring 2013 issue of News Media The Law, Lilly Chapa
provided this description: Technically, any aircraft that is controlled remotely is an unmanned aerial
vehicle (UAV), or drone. Most modern drones are controlled by Global Positioning System based
commands programmed through a computer. Drones can cost anywhere from $300 to $5 million and
can be as small as a dinner plate or as large as a Cessna. They can be equipped with a variety of tools,
including cameras, GPS trackers, infrared sensors and weapons [Chapa 2013]

relate to one another including how far we are willing to go for those who love us, and it also touches
on what it s like to be a rebellious teenager. Conflict drives this entire story. At the beginning, the main
character has both external conflict with her granddaughter, They had quarreled all morning, squalled
all summer (the opening line of the story, 281), and internal conflict she was done with that. And what
was it worth anyway? (on no longer being a mom, 283). The conflict between the two of them ramps
up over the course of the story until the end, when we see that, despite their arguments and
dissatisfaction with one another, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She says, I looked at my reflection... the girl staring back at me was angry, powerful (601). She
embraces this side of herself instead of trying to work with her mother or stand up for herself in a
meaningful way. Instead, she just gives up. I performed listlessly...I pretended to be bored (601). She
purposely practices the piano wrong, If I hit the wrong notes...I never corrected myself (603). While
she could have made herself into a really good piano player, it was more important to her that she go
against her mother. In the end, it s her own character that suffers.
Tiny Smiling Daddy Stew punched Kitty and knocked her down...he grabbed her and shook her (232).
Stew says to Kitty, You re a lesbian? Fine...you mean nothing to me (238). Stew could have chosen to
react in a different manner when he was upset, but he doesn t. Ultimately, he caused the train wreck of
a relationship with his daughter.

Peer Question:
In Tiny Smiling Daddy, what do you think the author intended to convey with the title? I know it
correlates to the end of the story when the father says, When a father dies, he is gone; there is no tiny,
smiling daddy who appears, waving happily, in the secret pocket in your chest (238). However, I don t
get it. I don t understand what Stew means or why the author chose that

How Does Walt Use Racism In Gran Torino
Moreover, in Gran Torino Walt is a Korean War veteran with prejudices towards other races and
ethnicities. He isolates himself from others and has a disconnection with his family who are different
from Walt s more traditional way of life. Despite his loneliness and prejudices he lives in a
predominately lower class Hmong neighborhood. The audience first sees Walt act out against his
neighbors during the wake for his wife when a boy, Thao, asks to borrow jumper cables. Walt
immediately lashes out at the boy purely for being part of the Hmong culture. This boy then sneaks
into Walt s garage in an attempt to steal his Gran Torino which almost results in the loss of Thao s life.
Immediately this deepens Walt s contempt and hatred for the Hmong community. However, knowing
little about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the drive home, Sue is sarcastic and makes humor out of Walt s racist remarks. Once this
conversation continues Walt states, You re alright . Following this event Sue begins feeling sympathy
for Walt as he lives in exile. As a result, she invites him over to feast with her family, and meet the
neighborhood who revere him as hero after he saved Thao from being abducted by his gangster
cousin. After continuously being interactive with his community Walt gradually opens up more and
more to the hmong community shedding his hatred as the story progress. The first time the audience
witnesses Walt fully shed his hatred for his neighbors, occurs when he helps Thao transition to
becoming a man and getting a construction job. Then, out of the blue, Thao begins acting different for
some days, and reveals his cousin jumped him and stole his tools. At this point Walt steps into the role
not only as a kind neighbor, but also a protector when he retaliates on behalf of Thao. Though what he
does is courageous and righteous it ultimately leads to the rape of Sue, and shooting of his neighbors

Scope of Managerial Economics
Q1. Yes. Firms represent a combination of people, physical assets, and information (financial,
technical, marketing, and so on). People directly involved include stockholders, managers, workers,
suppliers, and customers. Businesses use scarce resources that would otherwise be available for other
purposes, pay income and other taxes, provide employment opportunities, and are responsible for
much of the material well being of our society. Thus, all of society is indirectly involved in the firm s
operation. Firms exist because they are useful in the process of allocating resources producing and
distributing goods and services. As such, they are basically economic entities Q2. A. The most direct

Omaha s Warren E. Buffett, the billionaire head of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., also looks for companies
that have strong franchises and enjoy pricing flexibility, high ROE, high cash flow, owner oriented
management, and predictable earnings that are not natural targets of regulation. Like Price, Buffett has
profited enormously through his investments. To apply Price s and Buffett s investment criteria
successfully, business managers and investors must be sensitive to fundamental economic and
demographic trends. Perhaps the most obvious of these is the aging of the population. Health care
demands will continue to soar. In recognition of this fact, investors have bid up the shares of
companies offering prescription drugs, health care, and health care cost containment (e.g., home health
agencies). Perhaps less obvious is that an aging and increasingly wealthy population will save growing
amounts for their children s education and retirement. This bodes well for mutual fund operators,
insurance companies, and other firms that offer distinctive financial services. As the overall population
continues to enjoy growing income, spending on leisure activities is apt to grow; companies that offer
distinctive goods and services in this area will do well. Helping well heeled customers have fun has
always been a good business. Productivity enhancement to

Central Air Conditioning Vs Ductless
If your current air conditioning system is no longer working as well as it should, or you are building a
new home and debating what type of cooling system you should put in, you may be wondering which
system to choose. Most of the time when considering systems homeowners get stuck in the debate of
central air conditioning vs. ductless systems. Knowing the differences of each can help you to make a
clearer decision.
Central Air Conditioning vs. Ductless
When it comes to efficiency and saving money on your energy bills, ductless systems are often the
clear winner. When it comes to ductless systems you have better control over which area of the home
you are heating and cooling. You can use zones to control each area only heating and cooling

Usf Case Labeling
Standard operating procedures are built around detailed actions and functions within any operation.
Although USF has a documented standard operating procedure, it is an injustice to both the
membership and the company when employees are not trained in the detailed methodologies for
which they are to perform.
During the week of the audit, many order selectors were observed performing tasks above and beyond
those stated in the company s documented preferred methods.
For example,

The true cause of one s substandard performance must be identified and researched as to the effect of
any system errors which may have occurred during the production week, and to ensure all down time
has been allocated for the employee throughout the time period in question. Employees may be at no
fault when put into a working environment for which they have no control, especially if placed into a
situation where the work load is not reflective of the conditions the standard was meant to represent.
Members that are performing tasks that are not a part of their regular bid positions are most
susceptible, and are more likely to be hindered by these working conditions. There is a very high
probability that if one is put into these conditions that the delay allowance especially during the
summer months could in fact be much greater than the frequencies and allowances are meant to
represent for that period of time. Members and Local 104 should request all documentation and

received as a superhero and comic book character and is usually ranked as one of the greatest comic

Negative Effects Of Christian Reformation
1. A short term positive effect of the Christian reformation is that the bible was translated into German
so that everyone could read it. Another effect was that church services were preached In the common
language not Latin. A long term effect was that music was also introduced into church services. The
Christian reformation established the University of Wittenberg as the first Protestant university.
2. A short term negative effect of the Christian Reformation is infant baptism because they believed
that gave them salvation. Another negative effect was church and state were linked together. Also
church leaders had lots of power and were thought of as rulers of the church. A long term effect is that
the Lord s supper had a distorted view.

Many people die from their faith even to this day. 32 year old Fr. Jesus Adrian Sanchez was giving
religious instruction at a school when a armed man busted in and shot him dead for hearing him say
the word Jesus. Samuel Masih was a street cleaner who was thrown in jail because he was accused of
deliberately piling garbage against the wall of a mosque. While in prison a police constable decided to
earn a place in Janna (Paradise) by killing him with a brick cutting
What were Luthers teachings during the Protestant Reformation?
Luther believed Sola Scriptura the Bible is the supreme authority for Christians. Solo Fides Salvation
by faith alone. Also he believed the church of Rome is not supreme over other churches. Lastly he said
neither the pope nor the church councils are infallible.
Who helped start the Protestant Reformation?
Johann Gutenberg invented the printing press because he desired to get the Scriptures into the hands
of everyone. Erasmus Christian Humanist; Roman Catholic; preached the Philosophy of Christ .
William Tyndale gifted linguist; his translation of the Bible was considered the most accurate at the
time ( his works were influential in the KJV Bible). Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of

Theme Of Love In City Lights
I. The one theme that connects all the films we have watched in this class is an overall theme of love
this love presents itself in many different ways. In City Lights, the love between The tramp and the
blind girl, in Central Station it is the love between two strangers, Dora and Josue, The Namesake has
the love in an arranged marriage, Children of Heaven, the love between a brother and sister, and The
Kite Runner has love between two best friends that transcends the generations. All of these movies
have very different sets of characters, plots, settings, and cultures but the one theme connecting them
all is love. This love presents itself in many different ways, but the love is present all the same.
City Lights by Charlie Chaplin took place right here in the United States and started off the semester
with a traditional view of love as a culture we often view falling in love with someone as the ideal
what everyone wants. We especially want someone to love us for who we are, not the money or things
that we have. In City Lights, the Tramp inadvertently tricks the blind girl into thinking that he has a lot
of money. However despite this deception, he loves her, he wants to do what is best for her, even if it
gets him in trouble or sends her away from him. He tries working hard to get her what she needs a
cure for her blindness. Working hard does not work out for him, and he goes to great lengths to get the
money for her, including the boxing match and asking the millionaire for help. He does this because
he loves her deeply and he wants what is best for her. The movie ends with her being able to see and
still accepting him despite the fact that he is not a millionaire. This film portrays the great American
love story putting the other person first, and loving them despite their circumstances.
Central Station from Brazil by Walter Salles depicts a different kind of love. This movie could have
been about Josue, and the love with his mother or his brothers at the end when he finds them instead it
is about the love between him and Dora, an old, sad woman with no relation to him. Throughout the
film, Dora always tries to do what she thinks is best for Josue. It is misguided at first, when she sells
him to

Vitamin C Content in Fruit Juices
Aim: To investigate the vitamin C content of fruit juice. Introduction In this experiment I will be
finding out which fruit juice contains the most vitamin C. I will be using a method similar to titration
but I will be using a syringe instead of a burette.
Vitamin C Vitamin C also known as ascorbic acid is needed for growth and maintenance of healthy
tissues, especially skin, blood vessels, bones, gums, teeth. Vitamin C aids in resistance against
infection and healing of wounds. It also helps the body absorb iron from food. Vitamin C can be found
in green vegetables, potatoes, tomatoes and citrus fruits such as oranges and lemon. A lack of vitamin
C can cause scurvy, iron deficiency and poor wound healing. A healthy diet ... Show more content on

My dependant variable is the amount of Vitamin C in each fruit juice. I will observe the solution when
it is decolourizing. I will use the same volume of DCPIP solution for each fruit juice so that the results
are accurate and valid. I will use the results from this experiment to work out how much vitamin C the
fruit juices contain.
Preliminary Test In the preliminary test I used 3cm3 of DCPIP solution. A large amount of juice was
needed to change the colour of the DCPIP to colourless. I changed the amount of DCPIP solution from
3cm3 to 1cm3. This is because less juice will be needed to change 1cm3 of DCPIP from blue to
colourless. I used test tubes to hold the DCPIP and the 1% ascorbic acid but it was difficult to mix the
two solutions together so I decided to use a boiling tube instead. I tested the 1% ascorbic acid in the
preliminary test and I found that I need less than 3cm3 of the solution.
Equipment
12x Boiling tube
2x Test tube rack
1% DCPIP solution (1cm3 x15)
4x 5ml syringe
1% ascorbic acid (3cm3 x3)
Pineapple juice (30cm3 x3)
Orange Juice (30cm3 x3)
Lemon juice (30cm3 x3)
The boiling tubes will be used to hold the juice and the 1 % DCPIP solution. I will use boiling tubes
because in the preliminary test I used a test tube and I found that the test tube was too small and was
hard to shake the mixture therefore I will be using boiling tubes as the are slightly

  • 2. General External Environment Analysis Essay THE GENERAL EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT Laka Muralidharan General external environment is composed of dimensions in the broader society that influence an industry and the firms within it. These dimensions can be can be grouped into the following six environmental segments: demographic, economic, political/legal, sociocultural, technological and global segments. 1) Demographic segment China and India account for 1/3rd of the population and experts believe that they will remain the top two populous countries at least until 2050. China and India would contribute 65 million and 142 million new workers respectively to the global workforce by the year 2020. Both countries offer large, educated, relatively low cost workforces, and as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, since the recovery is just a few months old, there is still a lot of skepticism about whether it is for real and whether it has some legs to run further. I think the worst is behind us, but the future is still uncertain. I believe that it would take quite a while, at least a couple of years to get back to the economic levels (unemployment rate and housing market) of 2006. 3) Political/Legal segment This segment is an area where organizations compete for attention, resources and a voice in overseeing the body of laws and regulations guiding the interactions among nations. As the politics of regulations change, this segment influences the nature of competition through changing rules. An example is the global trend toward privatization of government owned or regulated firms. Firms must carefully analyze new political administration s business related policies and philosophies. Often, firms develop a political strategy to influence government policies and actions that might affect them. In the global scenario, more countries continue to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) as they seem to believe that free trade across nations serves the best interest of individual countries and their citizens. Down the line, many years from now, we would see a scenario where all countries in the globe become members of organizations like WTO and there is a fair trade across all countries ... • 3. One of my great difficulties with Kant s moral philosophy... One of my great difficulties with Kant s moral philosophy is that it suggests that our moral obligations leave us helpless when dealing with evil. Kant s theory sets a high ideal of conduct and tells us to live up to that ideal regardless of what other persons are doing. Imagine you are a character in a Shakespearean play and are watching your father getting murdered. He is the King and you aspire that one day you will take his place (Even though you know it won t happen, because you re a woman). Your brother takes the initiate to kill him and take his place. I m sure you would not be thinking oh, it s fine that he killed your father because being king is a great thing and it doesn t matter how or why he got there. Most likely you d be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kant s idea seems to be that we treat someone as an end only insofar as we act toward him or her in a way that he or she can understand as appropriate or justified: we should be able to explain our reasons in such a way that the person will see the reasonableness of acting in the way we propose. Thus, for example, Kant writes: he who is thinking of making a lying promise to others will see at once that he would be using another human being merely as a means, without the latter at the same time containing in himself the end. For he whom I propose by such a promise to use for my own purposes cannot possibly assent to my mode of acting toward him, and therefore cannot himself contain the end of this action. What is ruled out by this idea appears to be actions which treat others in such a way that they do not have the opportunity to consent to what we are doing. So we treat others as mere means when we force them to do something, or when we obtain their consent through pressure or dishonesty. That s something I think is special about being human having a normative self conception, wanting, to respect yourself, thinking of yourself as worthy or unworthy, rating yourself, especially now with media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and even online dating sites. It s a condition that gives a strange extra dimension to human life, both a special source of pride and interest and a profound cause of suffering. Some animals certainly want to be ... More specifically, the question under investigation is will the taxation of marijuana provide relief for our Connecticut s budget crisis and shortfalls. Legalizing marijuana has been a topic of conversation more and more as the year s pass. First, it started off with decriminalizing marijuana to provide relief to the justice system. Recently there have several states, including Colorado, Washington, and Oregon who have legalized the use and sale of marijuana to provide revenue for the state. It is anticipated that Colorado marijuana tax will yield more than $140 million in 2016 (Ekins and Henchman, 2016). Given our own budget crisis, which seems to be the topic every ... Terry Gilliam s Brazil depicts a retro futuristic setting dominated by a relentless totalitarian system. The setting of Brazil takes place during Christmas in an urban region that is never characterized by name but by its contents. The civilization presented in the film is distasteful, naive, lifeless, and overseen. Uninspiring infrastructure, apathetic socializations, and lack of sanctuaries illustrates this society and it seems to be an intended tactic by its government. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Observation can be made on a macro and micro scale, as behavior of a large group can affect the behavior of individuals (Merton, 1938). In Brazil, society is regulated and positioned a certain way that satisfies its government. Reaching a desirable achieved status seems hard to accomplish and only possible if conformed to the Ministry s regime. Sam, however, was offered a promotion by the master status himself, Mr. Helpmann. Seemingly, Sam s promotion offer was possible because of his ascribed status being the son of Mr. Helpmann s former co worker and his power hungry mother s connection with the Ministry. The social institution in the world of Brazil is centralized to abide the Ministry, who targets society to be uniformed and consumers. Considering the Consumers for Christ signs and the girls who wishes to Santa for her own credit card , there is an encompassing feeling of consumerism that citizens believe as holy. Displays of Tönnies Gesellschaft are frequent, as social control must rest on more formal techniques, such as laws and legally defined punishments (Schaefer, 2013). Mdh Assay Lab Report Enzymes are biological catalysts, usually made up of protein molecules that act on one or more specific substrates, converting them to products with different molecular structures. Malate Dehydrogenase (MDH) is one example of an enzyme that catalyzes oxaloacetic acid and NADH into malic acid and NAD+ as part of the citric cycle. In order to perform the MDH assay, a solution of pure MDH was collected from bovine heart. A control assay was performed, along with three experimental groups to test concentration, pH, and temperature. Units of activity were calculated and showed that all three variables have an effect on enzyme activity. MDH was shown to have an optimum pH, concentration, and temperature at which enzyme activity was at its highest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was hypothesized that as the enzyme concentration increases, the reaction rate increases. Also that as the pH moves away, both increasing and decreasing, from the optimum pH (7.5) the reaction rate decreases. Lastly, as the temperature moves away, both increasing and decreasing, from the optimum temperature (37 oC) the reaction rate decreases. All of the results, as described below, were consistent with the hypothesis that was made. As the results show in Figure 1, as the concentration of enzymes is increased, the units of activity also increased with the maximum being 0.0622 µmol/min at 1X concentration. This may be because when the enzyme is in a higher concentration there is more catalyst present, causing the reaction rate to increase. As Figure 2 shows, altering the pH, either higher or lower, had a negative effect on the reaction rate. This indicates that the optimum pH for this reaction is approximately 7.5, giving a rate of 0.0622 µmol/min. It is possible that altering the pH to extreme highs or lows causes the configuration of the enzyme to be altered and inhibits the biochemical system. The results also show that temperature has an affect on the reaction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Development Of New Zealand Art From The 20th Century The development of New Zealand Art from the 20th into the 21st Century New Zealand is home to various great artists who have crafted and created a platform for current, new and upcoming New Zealand artists. Throughout the 19th Century New Zealand artwork was predominantly based around New Zealand s scenery, artists during the 20th Century such as Rita Angus demonstrated through her artworks landscapes and sceneries of New Zealand whereas other New Zealand artists such as Gordon Walters incorporated suitable Maori patterns and styles in his artworks. During the 20th Century it was apparent that New Zealand artists such as Colin McCahon was heavily influenced by international artists and their artworks, adapted the style of cubism and began to use in his own works. In the late 20th Century New Zealand began to acknowledge culture and diversity within the country, it was then a beginning for Maori artists to become common and known of where many would unite European modernism with traditional Maori features together. • 11. The Argument Against The Existence Of God HJ McCloskey in 1968 wrote a paper that tried to argue against different Christian philosophy theories. He tried to argue against the existence of God, specifically in the Cosmological Argument and Teleological arguments. He also tries to use the existence of evil as an argument against the existence a God. His arguments ultimately show a lack of understanding. A lack of understanding of these basic christian arguments and basic Christian theology. The issue at the very beginning of this article is that of differing definitions. McCloskey comes out with talking about Christians not having proofs, and how he will refute them. He is continually using this language throughout the article. The problem is that a Christian would not define the arguments as proofs. A proof, when defined, has the idea that you are 100 percent certain that you are right about your thesis. It is really more of a scientific or mathematical term. The Christian would argue that you can never completely know if God is real. There is an element of faith involved. Instead of saying we are going to use proofs to prove God, it is probably more accurate to believe to use the word argument. Instead of proofs, a Christian is coming up with the best possible answers to the questions of the universe. On one hand this may upset the atheist. The atheist may wonder why you would believe in something that you cannot one hundred percent prove. This is faulty thinking, in that there many things that we do not ... It is a story about the soldiers and their experiences and emotions that are brought about from the war. O Brien makes several statements about war through these dynamic characters. He shows the violent nature of soldiers under the pressures of war, he makes an effective antiwar statement, and he comments on the reversal of a social deviation into the norm. By skillfully employing the stylistic technique of specific, conscious detail selection and utilizing connotative diction, O Brien thoroughly and convincingly makes each point. While thinking of escaping to Canada, he says: I was drafted to fight a war I hated. . .The American war seemed to me wrong (44). O Brien feels that U.S. involvement in Vietnamese affairs was unnecessary and wasteful. • 15. Future Development of Telepathology With telemedicine becoming so popular in the healthcare system, it is not surprising that telepathology is also becoming more and more popular. Technology has been, and continues, to improve on a regular basis. Telepathology is not a new concept in the telemedicine arena. Even with the wide availability to doctors and physicians, there has been a slow adoption of telepathology in everyday practice. High operating and maintaining costs used to be the main reason physicians gave for not accepting telepathology, but now most of the negative attitudes are contributed to the lack of education and clear guidelines (Cross, 2002, p. 14) for new incorporators of telepathology. There is no secret that the current system has problems, including incompatibility within systems, and the expensive microscopes that are dedicated to telepathology, but future developments are being researched and produced to help offset the high costs. Low cost internet solutions, videoconferencing, integrated digital pathology workstations, and virtual microscopes are just a few of the developments in the works. Low Cost Internet Solutions One of the most ideal situations for the future of telepathology would be the creation of one universally compatible system that wouldn t require expensive microscopes to be dedicated exclusively for the field of pathology (Cross, 2002). The artist was either male or female, we don t know exactly, but we do know they were from the Mixtec culture that included the regions of Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Ouebla, Mexico. Furthermore knowing the artists culture we have a better understanding of the significance of the representation of the Quetzalcóatl (feathered serpent) on this three dimensional plate. The plate itself seems to be 10 inches wide and symmetrical. The feathered god covers the whole diameter of the plate. Though it s called a plate, we can speculate that this wasn t a traditional plate for food, but rather than a plate to show sacredness of the mighty god. The artist s palate of colors that they chose is red, brown and white. In the artist s palate, the color red is very relevant to the subject of Quetzalcóatl. This color covers the whole plate showing how significant red is to this piece of artwork. Correspondingly this red isn t a normal bright red, but more of a mahogany red to represent the symbolism of blood within the story of Quetzalcóatl. The Indianapolis Musuem of Art explains, Quetzalcóatl was an important Mesoamerican hero god who created humanity from his own blood. 1 The red symbolizes blood because of the connection of the color red, blood is red and also this piece is mostly red, so we can speculate that the artist chose the color red to connect the story of Quetzalcóatl making humanity from his own blood. Similarly the brown on the serpent, even has a reddish tint to it. It is evident ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Solid Wood Hardwood Wood Flooring Solid wood flooring will last more than 100 years, and the finish can be easily renewed when needed. Just having wood floors increases the value of your home. Not too long ago, the only choice you had was the old fashioned solid wood tongue and groove strips in maple or oak. Today, wood flooring can be planks from old barns, exotic woods, pre finished engineered wood strips which eliminate the dust and disruption of finishing on site. You even can have wood laminate flooring, which isn t wood, but looks like wood at a much lower cost. SOLID WOOD FLOORING Solid wood floors, although beautiful, can t be used everywhere. They must be nailed to a sub floor. This makes solid wood unsuitable for use directly over concrete. Adding a sub floor between the concrete and the wood flooring might result in a height problem where the floor meets an adjoining room. Moisture causes wood to expand, so it s not appropriate in basements. Humidity can lead to squeaking and buckling. The trend seems to be for homeowners to buy wood flooring with a factory applied finish. This eliminates dust from sanding, fumes from finishing, and waiting before the floor can be walked on. Another benefit is that the factory finishes are usually much tougher than the polyurethane applied in the field. The downside of pre finishing is that since that floor doesn t get sanded after it s installed, there are slight bumps and dips where the sub floor isn t perfectly level, and where the flooring strips ... • 20. Law Problems A Health Football Club Faced This paper focuses on analyzing the a few questions about a series of law problems a Health Football Club faced, those questions concern formation of contract, some remedies can be applied through relevant law knowledge. In this case, it is essential to whether the action of HFC that inviting season ticket holder to renew for next season is an offer or not. In some point of view, it should be an offer. it can also be an invitation to treat without the certain term of price of £700 for all applications received before May 5th , so the contract is legal binding automatically when offer accepted by offeree. According to general law principle, an offer must be clear on certain terms and must be communicated to the other party, a vague information the offeror given would be regarded as an invitation to treat and mere buff or boast. Obviously and generally, a normal advertisement locally would be an invitation to treat, which is not enforceable to be an offer such as case of Partridge v Crittenden(1968), but if there are some specific set of terms in order to create legal relations, an offer can be found. See example of Blackpool Fylde Aero Flying Club Ltd v Blackpool Borough Council(1990). The fact is Liam sent a letter on April 28th, it takes long time than expected and received by HFC on May 7th, so HFC terminated old offer with £700, and regard the acceptance as a one of an new offer with £850. Nevertheless, it holds that Liam does not owe £175 to HFC. It stands to reason ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Immediately after Rick has received the film s first star close up, Casablanca yields its first shot from the point of view of a single individual at nine minutes into the film when Rick observes the German s attempt to enter. For most of the remainder of the film, Rick s point of view is privileged, and his face and body are centered. This is especially true when he is in the company of Victor Laszlo, who is regularly consigned to the margins of the frame throughout the sequence when Rick first encounters Ilsa and her husband in the cafe. All of this seems natural because the film has so carefully constructed the viewer as a secret sharer in Rick s vision. The innumerable choices that are made in the production of each shot in Casablanca are concealed by our acceptance of Rick as our surrogate. Although few would find reason to object, the film chooses to deprive Laszlo of a flashback, not to mention an As Time Goes By to unite him with Ilsa. Ray points out that this concealing of the necessity for choice also governs the thematic paradigm in Casablanca. The film invites the audience to identify with Rick rather than Laszlo even though official American wartime sentiments are consistently voiced by Laszlo. Rick regularly insists upon unmediated self interest, I stick my neck out for nobody , I m the only cause I m interested in , a position that Ferrari explicitly identifies with a discredited American tradition: My dear Rick, when will you realize ... Its new presidential election is clear evidence of this transition because the Indonesians chose to elect a common man to be the president: an official who they thought would understand their struggles. Within 15 years, Indonesia has transitioned from a bureaucratic authoritarian regime to a formal presidentialism. The newly elected president has already taken steps toward implementing his reforms which consists of pushing to cut down fuel subsidies, getting rid of corruption and encouraging new businesses to invest in Indonesia by giving them tax incentives. These are clear signs that consolidated liberal democracy in Indonesia has already taken place and that Indonesia will continue to be a democratic country in the future. One particular necessity for human bodies is sleep, and if not acquired, numerous complications can emerge. Sleep deprivation is a common problem that is all too often overlooked as a mere loss of a night s rest. What most people do not realize is the potential problems sleep deprivation can cause. From undesired grouchiness and uninhibited yawns, to constant illness and a failing mental state, sleep deprivation is condition that is nothing to be taken lightly. In fact, it can cause an otherwise healthy person to slowly shut down and break, just as a machine does without power. Sleep deprivation is simply the state of not having enough sleep. It can affect anybody, and has become an ever increasing peril in today s world. Consequently, according to the National Sleep Foundation s inaugural Sleep Health Index™, as of December, 2014, Forty five percent of Americans say that poor or insufficient sleep affected their daily activities at least once in the past seven days, To fully understand Sleep deprivation though, the knowledge of the process of sleeping must be obtained. Essay about The Visual Culture The Visual Culture Over the past few decades, enhancements in the visual fields have greatly improved, giving weight on the importance of visual material in text. Something that is more visually stimulating can usually make a text more convincing or credible. The term seeing is believing proves this fact. As humans, we tend to believe something if we can actually see it, which is why Jay David Bolter has referred to this phenomenon of the changed role of text and graphics as the visual culture in his book Writing Space. Bolter says, The dialectic of word and image in... advertisements can be commonplace or sophisticated, but in each case there is a changed relationship in which the image is magnified at the expense of the prose. Words no longer seems to carry conviction without the reappearance as a picture of the imagery that was latent in them, (Bolter, 54). Interesting, too, is the fact that Bolter mentions emotional tactics involved in emails and instant messaging. How fascinating it is to realize that we have actually put different emotional faces to express how we are speaking through IM s and e mails. To think that we have come so far in this visual culture that we need icons and pictures to express how we are feeling through writing. Hume s fork of knowledge represents a metaphorical fork of two beliefs that seem to contrast amongst each other. In Canada, the amount of paternal leave offered for families is 35 weeks and originally had to be split between the two parents. The Global News reported that the 2018 federal government budget included a five week, use it or lose it incentive for new dads to take parental leave with the statement that this will help families balance or reconcile work and family responsibilities (Blatchford, 2018). Marshall (2008) explored the traditional use of the parental leave; initially revealing it as primarily allocated to the mothers. Marshall noted that assuming parental leave is primarily a mother s benefit makes it difficult for fathers to take leave as it fuels conflicts in the workplace culture and societal expectations about the appropriate behaviour for men (Marshall, 2008). However, evidence from Statistics Canada indicated the proportion of fathers receiving paid parental leave benefits had increased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Bradly and Slade (2011), the birth of a child inevitably results in changes to men s lives and the transition to fatherhood is easier for some men than others. However, fathers experiencing mental difficulties can impact the development of the child. Unfortunately, Bradly and Slade s clinical implications were based on 20 year old data and focused primarily on depressive symptoms. More research is needed into other areas of mental health as it relates to fatherhood. (Bradley and Slade, 2011) A study by Garfield et al (2014) presented results which showed that depressive symptoms for fathers increased through the child s first 5 years of life. • 42. Drones Essay Felix Chan Dr. Wilkes Senior Seminar 6 December, 2015 Drones, that all INTRODUCTION As a human when we employ power by facts and evidence gathering with all the tools at our disposal, they can have a significant impact. So then will we use the new technology of unmanned aerial vehicles, drones, to create power for our stories? First of all we have to try to define what the word drone encompasses. In the spring 2013 issue of News Media The Law, Lilly Chapa provided this description: Technically, any aircraft that is controlled remotely is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), or drone. Most modern drones are controlled by Global Positioning System based commands programmed through a computer. Drones can cost anywhere from $300 to $5 million and can be as small as a dinner plate or as large as a Cessna. They can be equipped with a variety of tools, including cameras, GPS trackers, infrared sensors and weapons [Chapa 2013] MONEY With Bezos Amazon, as well as with Vartanian s dry cleaning business, part of the drive behind the expanded use of UAVs in the United States stems from nothing more than capitalistic ambition. To apply Price s and Buffett s investment criteria successfully, business managers and investors must be sensitive to fundamental economic and demographic trends. Perhaps the most obvious of these is the aging of the population. Health care demands will continue to soar. In recognition of this fact, investors have bid up the shares of companies offering prescription drugs, health care, and health care cost containment (e.g., home health agencies). Perhaps less obvious is that an aging and increasingly wealthy population will save growing amounts for their children s education and retirement. This bodes well for mutual fund operators, insurance companies, and other firms that offer distinctive financial services. • 50. Theme Of Love In City Lights I. The one theme that connects all the films we have watched in this class is an overall theme of love this love presents itself in many different ways. In City Lights, the love between The tramp and the blind girl, in Central Station it is the love between two strangers, Dora and Josue, The Namesake has the love in an arranged marriage, Children of Heaven, the love between a brother and sister, and The Kite Runner has love between two best friends that transcends the generations. All of these movies have very different sets of characters, plots, settings, and cultures but the one theme connecting them all is love. This love presents itself in many different ways, but the love is present all the same. City Lights by Charlie Chaplin took place right here in the United States and started off the semester with a traditional view of love as a culture we often view falling in love with someone as the ideal what everyone wants. We especially want someone to love us for who we are, not the money or things that we have. In City Lights, the Tramp inadvertently tricks the blind girl into thinking that he has a lot of money. However despite this deception, he loves her, he wants to do what is best for her, even if it gets him in trouble or sends her away from him. He tries working hard to get her what she needs a cure for her blindness. Working hard does not work out for him, and he goes to great lengths to get the money for her, including the boxing match and asking the millionaire for help. He does this because he loves her deeply and he wants what is best for her. The movie ends with her being able to see and still accepting him despite the fact that he is not a millionaire. This film portrays the great American love story putting the other person first, and loving them despite their circumstances. Central Station from Brazil by Walter Salles depicts a different kind of love. This movie could have been about Josue, and the love with his mother or his brothers at the end when he finds them instead it is about the love between him and Dora, an old, sad woman with no relation to him. Throughout the film, Dora always tries to do what she thinks is best for Josue. It is misguided at first, when she sells him to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction In this experiment I will be finding out which fruit juice contains the most vitamin C. I will be using a method similar to titration but I will be using a syringe instead of a burette. Vitamin C Vitamin C also known as ascorbic acid is needed for growth and maintenance of healthy tissues, especially skin, blood vessels, bones, gums, teeth. Vitamin C aids in resistance against infection and healing of wounds. It also helps the body absorb iron from food. I will use the same volume of DCPIP solution for each fruit juice so that the results are accurate and valid. I will use the results from this experiment to work out how much vitamin C the fruit juices contain. Preliminary Test In the preliminary test I used 3cm3 of DCPIP solution. A large amount of juice was needed to change the colour of the DCPIP to colourless. I changed the amount of DCPIP solution from 3cm3 to 1cm3. This is because less juice will be needed to change 1cm3 of DCPIP from blue to colourless. I used test tubes to hold the DCPIP and the 1% ascorbic acid but it was difficult to mix the two solutions together so I decided to use a boiling tube instead. I tested the 1% ascorbic acid in the preliminary test and I found that I need less than 3cm3 of the solution.
