An Enemy Of The People Analysis
Sometimes, even when you are trying to be a hero, you can become an enemy of the people. The play
written by Henrik Ibsen illustrated the defeat a man can face while trying to do what is right for his
people. This play allows the audience to witness the reality of society and how individuals are often
criticized for their findings because it is not supported by the entire population, or it is not a popular
idea. In the play An Enemy of the People , I believe that the concept developed by the director,
Michael Boynton, focuses on how no matter how many obstacles and barriers are put in the way, a
person must remain strong to do what is necessary and good for the people. I believe this production is
trying to showcase a production that illustrates nothing but realism. Dr. Stockmann discovers a major
discovery that can lead to the end of sickness that has been happening in the town due to the springs.
His once support system that he could lean on towards support from in the beginning of his discovery,
disappeared and was no longer firmly behind him like they assured him they would. Even through the
trials and tribulations Dr. Stockmann, his family, and even the Captain faced for supporting him, he
remained focused on revealing the truth about the springs. Three ways that the production emphasized
this concept is the actor s vocal choices, the scenery, and the post show music.
First of all, the production An Enemy of the People the director helps support the concept that

Reasons To Stay At Halifax
Halifax is the biggest city in Maritime Provinces, well at the same time being a one of the big
economic center of Eastern Canada. The city was established in 1749 and historically have been a
very important port city. This is due to its accessibility to the Atlantic Ocean and traders from Boston
and New York do not need to go up to St Lawrence River to trade with Canadians. Halifax s harbor is
bless by its natural shape which results in the port having a very low freeze point and will stay
operational under extreme low temperature. The harbor is also located near major fishing ground and
shipping lanes. When I decided to pick this city was due to few reasons. First, I really enjoyed my stay
at Halifax when I traveled the Maritime Provinces,

College Sports Case Study
Some of college football s leaders thought that more college football on television would create fan
indifference in the mid 80s. The opposite actually occurred; whereas fans continue to attend the games
in mass numbers, even a greater amount continue to watch games throughout the week, quite
frequently Mid American Conference games, and the weekend, with some Eastern Time zone fans
watching till Sunday morning to see the west coast games. In 1984, The Associated Press estimated
that the new landscape of television rights would generate $43.6 million. This would have been down
from the $69.7 million that the NCAA paid for the entire 1983 season. To put this into perspective,
ESPN will pay $80 million yearly to nationally broadcast the Rose

The Political System Of America
The political system in this country is heavily influenced by special interests that undermine what is
beneficial to society. When the corporate agenda meets politics, profit takes priority. There is a mutual
desire between politicians and businesses to maintain power. Getting re elected and achieving donor s
goals just like a company does for its share holders. The governments job is to protect the rights of
those with different interests, not to give rights to an entity, making it equal to people. There is a
conflict of interest between the profit driven corporate world and the public welfare. Politicians are
frequently offered financial benefits for favors, large donations influence decision making. Those
relationships are really unhealthy to the political process and the power of the people.
When money controls politics, all anyone would have to do is control the money. The founding fathers
had a fear of central banks due to the history of banks devaluing currency by inflation and deflation.
Thomas Jefferson feared the power that central bank could gain, and claimed it was unconstitutional.
Jim Marrs, a political researcher, reminds us of Jefferson s feelings, To take a single step beyond the
boundaries thus specially drawn around the powers of Congress, is to take possession of a boundless
field of power ... banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies (Marrs, The
Trillion dollar Conspiracy, 61).1 They knew a central bank is against the interest

Astrology In The Renaissance Era
Renaissance Historical Research Analysis Report (Astrology)
The practice of Astrology began in the early 17th century. It s one of the greatest impacted that had hit
humanity in the mid 1700s, It created an impact so big, that everyone started to question their future.
Although some people never took Astrology, many thought it was a superstitious belief, some thought
it was very much unreal. On the other hand some thought it was the key to changing their destiny, and
lifestyle. Astrology began its journey from weather predictions, to zodiac signs, to changing peoples
destiny just by saying a few words, or reading something off of a card. But the real questions is
astrology still as strong as it was in the renaissance era, or has it changed ... Show more content on

some succeeded. A famous writer and astrologist was Pico della Mirandola wrote a book Disputations

techniques with astrological practice. (renaissance astrology.com). With the correct practice of

People Face Trade-Offs
People deal with plenty of choices in their everyday lives. At the moment we open our eyes, we have
to make decisions. For instance, should we get up and prepare ourselves for a new day, or should we
continue resting in our beds? Even after when we have made this decision, we will still face choices
after choices. However, we cannot get all the things we want as according to Mankiw, scarcity exists
in our society. In other words, scarcity means that society has limited resources and therefore cannot
produce all the goods and services people wish to have. To get one thing that we like, we usually have
to give up other things that we like. Making decisions require trading off one goal against another.
This phenomenon is also called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the trade offs that I faced before in my life is when I had to make a decision about what I want
to do after high school. If I chose to further my studies, that means I would have to give up the chance
to earn money and gain working experiences. When I made up my mind to continue studying, I
hesitated about which university to choose because there are too many choices. For example, if I had
chosen to study at local university, I would have lost the opportunity to experience the university life
in foreign country. Contrarily, if I had chosen to study abroad, there would have been a bigger
financial burden for my family. I had to make the wisest decision as it affects my future. When
government makes public policies, they have to consider between equality and efficiency. I have
noticed that our government imposes price ceiling on some necessities such as eggs and bread. This
may improve the equality, as everyone can buy eggs at the same price. However, it is inefficient
because suppliers would produce less eggs since they cannot get a higher price. In this case, they have
to ration limited resources to produce the right number of eggs. Nevertheless, I agree with Mankiw
that recognizing that people face trade offs does not by itself tell us what decisions they will or should
make (p.5). In conclusion, there is not no such thing as a free lunch , I believe that life is all about
trade offs. By

Analysis Of On The Subway

ENGL 101
17 September 2015
Textual Analysis Essay #1
Sharon Olds, poet of on the subway depicts a situation where a white female makes observations and
internal thoughts about a black male that she witnesses on a subway that Olds describes as
representing tension between the white and black races. The black teenage male possibly portrays not
just one black teen, but the entire race as a whole. He represents the entire race. Olds uses
enjambments, powerful imagery, as well as figurative language, specifically metaphors, in order to
point out the stereotypical differences and tensions between races in today s community and the bigger
picture of the common stereotype of Caucasian people being above the African American people on
the socio economic ladder. Her forceful tone reflects the severity and prevalence of this harsh
commonly seen contrast between the two races.
Enjambments can be utilized for a variety of different reasons in order to change the way the reader
analyzes and thinks about the poem. A basic reason to use enjambments would be to make the lines of
the poem look more even, but in this poem they are used for a little more reasoning. One example of a
critical and essential enjambment in the poem that helps Olds prove her purpose exists when she says I
am / living off his life (18 19). This really

ENC 1102 Dutchman Thematic Analysis
The phrase racial tension is a small description of the main theme in Dutchman by Amiri Baraka.
While race is a vital part of the underlying messages in the play, it stems to a much broader term. In
Dutchman Amiri Baraka attempts to grasp the attention of the African American society. Baraka uses
Clay s character to show readers that complete assimilation into another culture is wrong. He wants to
awaken the African American men and women in a predominately Caucasian American culture to
subconsciously kill the person that is portrayed by Clay in the play. Not only does Baraka want
readers and audience members to kill their inner Clay, but refuse to conform to ... Show more content

Clay, you liver lipped white man. You would be Christian. You ain t no nigger, you re just a dirty
white man. Get up. Clay. Dance, with me, Clay. Clay: Lula! Sit down, now. Be cool. Even through
Lula insulted him and spoke badly about his mother clay still responded in an apprehensive way. Lula
s aggressiveness in her speech angers Clay to the point where he curses at her, that is after she calls
him an Uncle Tom Wooly Head. (Martin 62)(Kumar 276)
At the end of scene one Lula says You re a murderer, Clay, and you know it. (Baraka 2751)This quote
could be thought of as a subliminal way of saying that Clay killed the black man inside of him. All
throughout the first scene Lula has the more aggressive and dominant role, but in scene two Clay takes
on the more authoritative role, while Lula ends up being the actual murderer at the end of the play.
Lula s plot to kill Clay is in some way foreshadowed when the other passengers board the train and
she says we ll pretend that people cannot see you . (Baraka 2751) Clay tries to defend himself all
throughout the play but doesn t succeed because he can t defend something that he is not. While Lula
is insulting the stereotypes and behavior of black men, Clay cannot fully defend them because he
himself isn t truly black . (Klinkowitz 123 124)
Baraka used a sense of satire because instead of directly inputting his opinion about Clay he played off
of Lula s character,

Drunk driving can be easily stopped. Alcohol is a poison that alters your mind in a negative way, and
when you try to drive while under the influence it can be dangerous to you as well as the world. When
people drink and drive, they can t focus and can easily crash, this can hurt the person who is drinking
and driving as well as any passengers in the car and also innocent people around. The way to stop
drunk driving is simple, stop drinking, and if you re going to drink make sure you drink in a safe
environment or have a safe way to get home. Another easy way to prevent drunk driving is to put the
bottle down and not drink at all. Drinking alcohol has many negative effects on the brain as well as the
body and kills millions every year just in America. Alcohol can be addictive and can change the user s
life in a negative way forever, and it will alter your mind to make many bad choices you will regret
later (like drunk driving). Don t let alcohol ruin your life, and don t let it accidentally ruin an innocent

It was dusk as I walked along the oceans edge, the air is humid and tastes salty. All of my
surroundings are hazy. I do not know where I am or how I came to be here, yet my heart rate is slow
and steady. I see a dimly lit light off in the distance, so I decide to go investigate. As I draw closer I
realize it is a lamppost situated beside a boardwalk to a small town. As I looked down I found the most
peculiar tracks in the sand, it resembled the shapes of a humans hand. Curiously, I ventured into the
quaint little village. I followed the boardwalk, it took me nearly all night to find the town. By

Essay What is the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
The polymerase chain reaction or PCR for short can be used to create many copies of DNA. This
allows the DNA to then be visualized using a dye like ethidium bromide after gel electrophoresis. The
process has been refined over the years, however the basic steps are similar.
The first is to denature dsDNA through heating to ~96 °C. This separates the two strands of DNA. The
exact temperature to be used can be calculated with Tm = 4oC x (no. of G C) + 2oC x (no. of A T).
Tm is the melting point of the strands and to supply the number of G, C, A, T s the primer is used.
Annealing of primers is then possible when the temperature cools down to 37 65 °C.
Extension from these primers can be done through the use of heat stable (has to ... Show more content

However it is a known carcinogen and therefore alternatives have been developed. These, for instance
gelred, can be used without the use of UV lighting. However they are often a lot more expensive.
A general issue is that PCR techniques can be very sensitive; any contamination can be amplified.
This in combination with the improvements in technique seen over the last few years can mean that
for instance in forensics, extensive care needs to be taken when handling samples to prevent
contamination. The interpretation of results can also prove tricky for levels of contamination (or DNA
that was there due to circumstances unrelated to the crime) that may not have been noticeable with
earlier techniques can point the blame to someone who was in fact innocent.
However forensics is not the only area that has been advanced by PCR techniques. Diseases diagnosis
can be made much more accurately and quickly. The diagnosis however is not just limited to
infectious diseases caused by bacteria, tumours can also be analysed. Therefore it may become
apparent if it is the result of a general genetic abnormality or simply an untimely mutation. Viruses
similarly can be detected if someone is infected, along with the viral load; this allows disease
progression to be monitored.
Genetic mutations are important for tracking disease abnormalities and if there are any causal links
between unsuspecting genes and diseases. Not

The Levels Of Carbon Dioxide
In the modern industrial era, the levels of Carbon Dioxide produced are much more significant than in
years before. Due to Carbon Dioxides involvement in ocean acidification, this is a major issue. Since
the beginning of the industrial revolution, the pH of the ocean surface has fallen by 0.1 units.
Although this may not seem significant, due to the logarithmic properties of the pH scale, this change
signifies about a 30% increase in ocean acidity. If this issue isn t addressed, there will be dire
consequences for both marine organisms, as well as humans. To understand ocean acidification, some
chemistry needs to be defined and understood.

The molecules gain a shell of water molecules and are transformed from CO2 (g) to CO2 (aq). This is
known as the dissolution process. This can be shown in the equilibrium reaction.
Equilibrium is a state in a reaction in which both the reactants and the products are present in
concentrations that are both constant, and will not change over time. This state results when the
forward reaction is proceeding at the same rate as the reverse reaction. An example of this can be seen
in the dissolution of Sodium Chloride in water. If the equilibrium equation NaCl(s) NaCl (aq) is used,
we can see that the compound in the solid form is re crystalizing at the same rate as the aqueous form
is dissolving. There are 3 main disturbances that can alter equilibrium, a change in concentration of
reactants or products, a change in temperature or a change in pressure. According to Le Chatelier s
principle, if any of these three is disturbed, the system compensates by shifting the equilibrium to
either the left or the right. This can be seen in the equilibrium reactions associated with sea water. In
the dissolution process of CO2 discussed before, not all of the CO2 molecules remain dissolved. A
small amount react with the water to form carbonic acid (H2CO3), which can be seen in the equation
CO2 (aq) + H2O H2CO3 (aq). As carbonic acid is a weak acid, it can dissociate to bicarbonate or
carbonate. These two equations respectfully are H2CO3 (aq H+ (aq) + HCO3 (aq),

want to mow lawns and trim trees for a living and continuously fights with his father and has a lack of

Gun shots! Chanting killing songs! There are dead bodies everywhere. That s what one would see if
one took a trip to Rwanda in the year 1994. There was an enormous amount of people who were being

Shrek is brave, loyal, and lives up to the standards our society expects and appreciates. Shrek presents
himself as evil and mean but on the inside he is actually compassionate and gentle. Campbell s
Monomyth and the process for an epic hero that includes the departure, the initiation, and the return

Fiona requests that Shrek take off his helmet so that they can kiss demonstrating the meeting of the
oracle. Shrek resists the seizing of the sword and will not take off his helmet. They go back and forth
until Shrek resists the journeying to the sword and picks up Fiona and carries her away. Shrek has a
near death experience as he battles Robin Hood and ends up with an arrow in his butt. The atonement
of the father is revealed when Shrek and Fiona fall for each other. The apotheosis of the monomyth is
when Donkey finds Fiona and realizes that she turns into an ogre at night. The ultimate boon could be
one of two things in this tale. At first Shrek planned on the ultimate boon to be getting Fiona back to
Lord Farquaad. However, right when he is about to return her, his ultimate boon is to get her to love
him back. In Campbell s book the ultimate boon is described as, What the hero seeks through his
intercourse with them is therefore not finally themselves, but their grace. For the most part the
initiation is the capturing of the princess and escaping the dragon. However, the return of the hero
mixes in with the initiation due the journey not being complete. Since there are two climaxes to the
movie, the return can either be after the capture of the princess or after Fiona declares her love for
Shrek. The refusal of the return is Shrek not wanting to bring Fiona to Lord Farquaad due to him
falling in love with her. Campbell explains the

Comparing Gruwell, Miss Campbell, And Eva Benitez In...
In both movies there are key individuals, organizations, movements, and programs. In the Freedom
Writers, some key individuals are Erin Gruwell, Miss Campbell, and Eva Benitez. Ms. Gruwell
believed in her students. She knew that they can learn and was determined to teach them; she was an
extremely involved teacher. She played a role in solving the divisions of race tensions between ethnic
groups by teaching her students to tolerate and understand one another. Miss. Campbell was apart of
the administration at the school. She opposed Erin s teaching tactics. She also thinks Mrs. Gruwell s
students can t be trusted and are lost causes. Miss. Campbell is part of the reason that the students are
not getting the education they need. Eva Benitez is one of the main student character in the movie. She
resisted Ms. Gruwell s teaching the most, but by the end of the movie she grew as a student and
person. Eva is a third generation gang member and is a prime example of how gang violence is a

parents, and students lack initiative, and a teacher hero is needed to turn the school around. Donald
Trump discusses what he thinks about urban schools. He describes inner city communities in a rally
on October 27th. So many horrible, horrible problems. The violence. The death. The lack of education.
No jobs (Sullivan, 1). He is portraying that the inner city is a crime filled area with no education and is
very dangerous. Precious Knowledge gives a different perspective to urban education and schools.

education. Also, teachers are eager to help students in

The lyrics express Guthrie s belief that the working class should have the same rights as the rich. He
very proudly carried the torch of singing songs about the American worker. Woody Guthrie s music
was not written down, but instead sung, performed, and taught completely by memory. The structure
of this song is easy and memorable, using an ACAB format, which repeats the beginning of the
melody (A section) for the third line. There was a certain Americana aspect to his folk music. He was
a migrant farmer traveling as a country singer, using only his guitar and voice (occasionally using a
harmonica) in his performances. He created songs from the sights he saw as he traveled all over the
USA as a country singer, and spoke out against the lack of fairness and justice of capitalism and poor
treatment of blue collar workers. He preached that his folk music was not just something that was
made just to sell and make money , it was intensively focused on political and worldly events.
Nat King Cole s Unforgettable released in 1952. Nat King Cole was widely accepted among white
households, despite his ethnicity. He was widely known for his soft, calming, incandescent, baritone
voice. He was originally a jazz pianist and he mostly performed in jazz and big band genres which
allowed him to break through the racial barrier with the white community. His trio was made up of

The New Testament Saul
Freedom Through Christ
According to writings in the New Testament Saul was dedicated to the persecution of the early
disciples of Jesus in and around Jerusalem. In the book of Acts, chapter nine, it is stated that Saul was
traveling on the road from Jerusalem to Damascus on a mission to bring anyone of the Christian faith
bound to Jerusalem. As he traveled the resurrected Jesus appeared to him in a great light, Saul was
struck blind. After three days Ananias of Damascus restored his sight. This transformed Saul of Tarsus
into Paul the Apostle. Paul then began to preach that Jesus of Nazareth was the Jewish Messiah and
the Son of God. Paul s experience that turned him from persecutor to apostle was a prophetic call and
a direct encounter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through Paul s letters it is clear that freedom is an important theme. Paul concludes his claim of the
freedom of Abraham s descendants with for freedom Christ has set us free (Galatians 5:1). Paul uses
the idea of freedom to persuade the gentile Christians into understanding that they need not enslave
themselves to observing Torah. It was proposed to the Galatians that gentile Christians be circumcised.
Paul believed this to be an act that would undercut the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and instead
enslave us (Galatians 2:4). So in disagreement, Paul urges the gentile Christians to stand firm against
the ones who support their circumcision and that the Galatians be burdened by a yoke of slavery
(Galatians 5:1). Freedom then can become the idea that salvation does not come from being aware of
the obligations of Torah. Paul instead, preaches the gospel of salvation by grace through faith. This
becomes misinterpreted though, and leads some to believe that sin is acceptable because they are not
under law but under grace. The belief that those who have faith in Jesus may live in any fashion
without worry of being condemned as sinners and it may even improve God s reputation as gracious
and forgiving towards those who have put their faith in Jesus. Paul s response to those who
misunderstand his teachings this way is that their condemnation is deserved (Romans 3:8). Through
this, Paul

William Shakespeare Fraud Essay
Was Shakespeare A Fraud? One of the most argued cases in history is whether or not William
Shakespeare was the one to write his own plays, or if he had someone else write them for him. There
are numerous amounts of arguments agreeing that Shakespeare wrote his plays, and then there are
numerous amounts disagreeing with his penmanship of his plays. According to some sources,
Shakespeare was an impractical choice to write such famous works of art due to his lack of traveling,
and his lack of education (Hechinge). These theories come into play when explaining that Shakespeare
was, indeed, a fraud. One of the most common pieces of evidence used to support that Shakespeare
did not write his own plays was his social status. Shakespeare was a ... Show more content on

The idea of Edward de Vere being the author was first proposed in 1920 by a man named J.T Looney,
and is still being argued to this day (Hechinge). Edward de Vere being the playwright came into idea
because of his social status. As he was a highly educated man, and had been trained as a lawyer he
made a perfect fit for plays that contained so much legal information and knowledge (Hechinge).
Multiple strange connections had been made between the writings of Hamlet and Edward de Vere. For
example, Vere had previously been captured by pirates in the English Channel and later was found
naked on Denmark s shore and in Hamlet, Hamlet describes himself as being naked on a kingdom s
shore after he encounters buccaneers

Guilt And Appreciation In Those Winter Sundays By Robert...
Something so simple as thanking someone for holding the door open or smiling at passerby s can
make a big difference in someone s day. So, it is even more important to treat loved ones with respect
and to show them appreciation, as it means much more than a simple smile from a stranger. Guilt is a
very difficult thing to live with. It is better to be courteous of others and thoughtful than to deal with
the dreadful guilt. The themes of guilt and appreciation are shown in the poem, Those Winter Sundays
by Robert Hayden. To appreciate and respect a loved one shows them how truly special they are, and
lets them know that they are noticed and their actions are not taken for granted. Everyone deserves to
know that they are loved and appreciated.

Frasnian-Famennian Extinction
Abstract
The Frasnian Famennian mass extinction in the Late Devonian has often been considered as one of the
major 5 extinctions through time. Conflicting interpretations for the cause of this extinction exist, but
the role of volcanism is becoming increasingly appealing due to recent advances in radioisotope
dating. New K Ar and 40Ar/39Ar ages for the Viluy traps in Siberia suggest multiphase emplacement
of the Viluy traps with an early phase likely contributing to the Frasnian Famennian mass extinction.
Other work supports this idea of multiphase emplacement. Changes in earth systems during the late
Devonian support the argument for the role of volcanism as a root in the destruction of multiple
marine habitats during the Late Devonian. One explanation for the Frasnian Famennian extinction
involves an initial pulse of Viluy Trap volcanism which lead to elevated levels in the atmosphere,
marine anoxia and ultimately extinction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rocks associated with the Viluy traps include dikes, sills, and layered basalt breccia, and are overlain
by Late Devonian Early Carboniferous sediments (Ricci et al., 2013). Previous analysis on dating the
traps has proved difficult due to high rates of erosion and burial by Mesozoic sediments in the east and
Siberian traps to the west (Kiselev et al., 2006). The current extent of the Viluy traps is 800 by 450 km
(Gaiduk, 1987; Kiseleve et al., 2006) with a total thickness of sediments up to 9 km and a volume of
about 300X103km3 (Kiselev et al., 2006). However, effects of erosion and burial through time have
likely contributed to a decrease in volume with time, and initial volume likely reached one million
cubic kilometers (Kiselev et al., 2006). Thus, this value is similar to other volcanic provinces which
have been associated with major mass extinctions through time

Risk Management and Contingency Planning
Project: A case of manufacturing, delivery and installation of a large power transformer. 1.
INTRODUCTION
A project to manufacture, deliver and install a large power transformer is time and resource (material
and labour) consuming, relies on services and products provided by more than one supplier, involves
multiple expertise, and costs tens of millions of Rands. If a transformer fails, the cost of rectification
can go as high as over 70% of the price of a new one. By so saying, risk management and contingency
planning plays a key role in the management of such a project. In this report, the need and process of
risk management as well as the types of risks in relation to the power transformer project are
discussed.
2. PROJECT ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like in many other projects, the basic concerns in the power transformer project are schedule and
costs, while continuously ensuring that the product meets required specifications and performance any
deviation to what is planned constitutes a risk. In practice however, things do not always go according
to plan and therefore risk management is needed to ensure that chaos does not prevail.
The point that Kippenberger (2000) is making in his article titled there s no such thing as risk free
project is that almost everything we do in a project involves a risk of some kind by so saying, it is
therefore essential that we are prepared or able to deal with risks. Most literature puts emphasis on the
negative connotation that the word risk carries. For instance, Chapman and Ward (2003) provide the
meaning of risk as: hazard, chance of bad consequences, loss, and exposure to chance of injury or loss.
Galway (2004) defines risk as an event which is uncertain and has negative impact, and similarly,
Martin (2008: 38) defines risk as the chance of something occurring that has an adverse effect on the
project . This negativity highlights the fact that problems can occur or things can go wrong and it is
therefore important to have a systematic approach to managing them. Therefore in project
management, risk management is necessary to increase the chances of the proposed project
succeeding.

The process of managing

  • 2. An Enemy Of The People Analysis Sometimes, even when you are trying to be a hero, you can become an enemy of the people. The play written by Henrik Ibsen illustrated the defeat a man can face while trying to do what is right for his people. This play allows the audience to witness the reality of society and how individuals are often criticized for their findings because it is not supported by the entire population, or it is not a popular idea. In the play An Enemy of the People , I believe that the concept developed by the director, Michael Boynton, focuses on how no matter how many obstacles and barriers are put in the way, a person must remain strong to do what is necessary and good for the people. I believe this production is trying to showcase a production that illustrates nothing but realism. Dr. Stockmann discovers a major discovery that can lead to the end of sickness that has been happening in the town due to the springs. His once support system that he could lean on towards support from in the beginning of his discovery, disappeared and was no longer firmly behind him like they assured him they would. Even through the trials and tribulations Dr. Stockmann, his family, and even the Captain faced for supporting him, he remained focused on revealing the truth about the springs. Three ways that the production emphasized this concept is the actor s vocal choices, the scenery, and the post show music. First of all, the production An Enemy of the People the director helps support the concept that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Reasons To Stay At Halifax Halifax is the biggest city in Maritime Provinces, well at the same time being a one of the big economic center of Eastern Canada. The city was established in 1749 and historically have been a very important port city. This is due to its accessibility to the Atlantic Ocean and traders from Boston and New York do not need to go up to St Lawrence River to trade with Canadians. Halifax s harbor is bless by its natural shape which results in the port having a very low freeze point and will stay operational under extreme low temperature. The harbor is also located near major fishing ground and shipping lanes. When I decided to pick this city was due to few reasons. • 4. College Sports Case Study Some of college football s leaders thought that more college football on television would create fan indifference in the mid 80s. The opposite actually occurred; whereas fans continue to attend the games in mass numbers, even a greater amount continue to watch games throughout the week, quite frequently Mid American Conference games, and the weekend, with some Eastern Time zone fans watching till Sunday morning to see the west coast games. In 1984, The Associated Press estimated that the new landscape of television rights would generate $43.6 million. This would have been down from the $69.7 million that the NCAA paid for the entire 1983 season. To put this into perspective, ESPN will pay $80 million yearly to nationally broadcast the Rose ... • 5. The Political System Of America The political system in this country is heavily influenced by special interests that undermine what is beneficial to society. When the corporate agenda meets politics, profit takes priority. There is a mutual desire between politicians and businesses to maintain power. Getting re elected and achieving donor s goals just like a company does for its share holders. The governments job is to protect the rights of those with different interests, not to give rights to an entity, making it equal to people. There is a conflict of interest between the profit driven corporate world and the public welfare. Politicians are frequently offered financial benefits for favors, large donations influence decision making. Those relationships are really unhealthy to the political process and the power of the people. When money controls politics, all anyone would have to do is control the money. The founding fathers had a fear of central banks due to the history of banks devaluing currency by inflation and deflation. Thomas Jefferson feared the power that central bank could gain, and claimed it was unconstitutional. Jim Marrs, a political researcher, reminds us of Jefferson s feelings, To take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specially drawn around the powers of Congress, is to take possession of a boundless field of power ... banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies (Marrs, The Trillion dollar Conspiracy, 61).1 They knew a central bank is against the interest ... It s one of the greatest impacted that had hit humanity in the mid 1700s, It created an impact so big, that everyone started to question their future. Although some people never took Astrology, many thought it was a superstitious belief, some thought it was very much unreal. On the other hand some thought it was the key to changing their destiny, and lifestyle. • 7. People Face Trade-Offs People deal with plenty of choices in their everyday lives. At the moment we open our eyes, we have to make decisions. For instance, should we get up and prepare ourselves for a new day, or should we continue resting in our beds? Even after when we have made this decision, we will still face choices after choices. However, we cannot get all the things we want as according to Mankiw, scarcity exists in our society. In other words, scarcity means that society has limited resources and therefore cannot produce all the goods and services people wish to have. To get one thing that we like, we usually have to give up other things that we like. Making decisions require trading off one goal against another. This phenomenon is also called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the trade offs that I faced before in my life is when I had to make a decision about what I want to do after high school. If I chose to further my studies, that means I would have to give up the chance to earn money and gain working experiences. When I made up my mind to continue studying, I hesitated about which university to choose because there are too many choices. For example, if I had chosen to study at local university, I would have lost the opportunity to experience the university life in foreign country. Contrarily, if I had chosen to study abroad, there would have been a bigger financial burden for my family. I had to make the wisest decision as it affects my future. When government makes public policies, they have to consider between equality and efficiency. I have noticed that our government imposes price ceiling on some necessities such as eggs and bread. This may improve the equality, as everyone can buy eggs at the same price. However, it is inefficient because suppliers would produce less eggs since they cannot get a higher price. In this case, they have to ration limited resources to produce the right number of eggs. Nevertheless, I agree with Mankiw that recognizing that people face trade offs does not by itself tell us what decisions they will or should make (p.5). In conclusion, there is not no such thing as a free lunch , I believe that life is all about trade offs. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of On The Subway Jake Lipschutz Lipschutz 1 Ms. Kristen ENGL 101 17 September 2015 Textual Analysis Essay #1 Sharon Olds, poet of on the subway depicts a situation where a white female makes observations and internal thoughts about a black male that she witnesses on a subway that Olds describes as representing tension between the white and black races. The black teenage male possibly portrays not just one black teen, but the entire race as a whole. He represents the entire race. Olds uses enjambments, powerful imagery, as well as figurative language, specifically metaphors, in order to point out the stereotypical differences and tensions between races in today s community and the bigger picture of the common stereotype of Caucasian people being above the African American people on the socio economic ladder. Her forceful tone reflects the severity and prevalence of this harsh commonly seen contrast between the two races. Enjambments can be utilized for a variety of different reasons in order to change the way the reader analyzes and thinks about the poem. A basic reason to use enjambments would be to make the lines of the poem look more even, but in this poem they are used for a little more reasoning. One example of a critical and essential enjambment in the poem that helps Olds prove her purpose exists when she says I am / living off his life (18 19). This really ... • 9. Dutchman Williams, Jae`da June 19, 2012 ENC 1102 Dutchman Thematic Analysis The phrase racial tension is a small description of the main theme in Dutchman by Amiri Baraka. While race is a vital part of the underlying messages in the play, it stems to a much broader term. In Dutchman Amiri Baraka attempts to grasp the attention of the African American society. Baraka uses Clay s character to show readers that complete assimilation into another culture is wrong. He wants to awaken the African American men and women in a predominately Caucasian American culture to subconsciously kill the person that is portrayed by Clay in the play. Even through Lula insulted him and spoke badly about his mother clay still responded in an apprehensive way. Lula s aggressiveness in her speech angers Clay to the point where he curses at her, that is after she calls him an Uncle Tom Wooly Head. (Martin 62)(Kumar 276) At the end of scene one Lula says You re a murderer, Clay, and you know it. (Baraka 2751)This quote could be thought of as a subliminal way of saying that Clay killed the black man inside of him. All throughout the first scene Lula has the more aggressive and dominant role, but in scene two Clay takes on the more authoritative role, while Lula ends up being the actual murderer at the end of the play. Lula s plot to kill Clay is in some way foreshadowed when the other passengers board the train and she says we ll pretend that people cannot see you . (Baraka 2751) Clay tries to defend himself all throughout the play but doesn t succeed because he can t defend something that he is not. While Lula is insulting the stereotypes and behavior of black men, Clay cannot fully defend them because he himself isn t truly black . (Klinkowitz 123 124) Baraka used a sense of satire because instead of directly inputting his opinion about Clay he played off of Lula s character, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As I draw closer I realize it is a lamppost situated beside a boardwalk to a small town. As I looked down I found the most peculiar tracks in the sand, it resembled the shapes of a humans hand. • 14. Essay What is the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) The polymerase chain reaction or PCR for short can be used to create many copies of DNA. This allows the DNA to then be visualized using a dye like ethidium bromide after gel electrophoresis. The process has been refined over the years, however the basic steps are similar. The first is to denature dsDNA through heating to ~96 °C. This separates the two strands of DNA. The exact temperature to be used can be calculated with Tm = 4oC x (no. of G C) + 2oC x (no. of A T). Tm is the melting point of the strands and to supply the number of G, C, A, T s the primer is used. Annealing of primers is then possible when the temperature cools down to 37 65 °C. Extension from these primers can be done through the use of heat stable (has to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However it is a known carcinogen and therefore alternatives have been developed. These, for instance gelred, can be used without the use of UV lighting. However they are often a lot more expensive. A general issue is that PCR techniques can be very sensitive; any contamination can be amplified. This in combination with the improvements in technique seen over the last few years can mean that for instance in forensics, extensive care needs to be taken when handling samples to prevent contamination. The interpretation of results can also prove tricky for levels of contamination (or DNA that was there due to circumstances unrelated to the crime) that may not have been noticeable with earlier techniques can point the blame to someone who was in fact innocent. However forensics is not the only area that has been advanced by PCR techniques. Diseases diagnosis can be made much more accurately and quickly. The diagnosis however is not just limited to infectious diseases caused by bacteria, tumours can also be analysed. Therefore it may become apparent if it is the result of a general genetic abnormality or simply an untimely mutation. Viruses similarly can be detected if someone is infected, along with the viral load; this allows disease progression to be monitored. Genetic mutations are important for tracking disease abnormalities and if there are any causal links between unsuspecting genes and diseases. Not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Levels Of Carbon Dioxide In the modern industrial era, the levels of Carbon Dioxide produced are much more significant than in years before. Due to Carbon Dioxides involvement in ocean acidification, this is a major issue. Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, the pH of the ocean surface has fallen by 0.1 units. Although this may not seem significant, due to the logarithmic properties of the pH scale, this change signifies about a 30% increase in ocean acidity. If this issue isn t addressed, there will be dire consequences for both marine organisms, as well as humans. To understand ocean acidification, some chemistry needs to be defined and understood. Co2 is a compound molecule comprising of one carbon atom bonded to two oxygen atoms through a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The molecules gain a shell of water molecules and are transformed from CO2 (g) to CO2 (aq). This is known as the dissolution process. This can be shown in the equilibrium reaction. Equilibrium is a state in a reaction in which both the reactants and the products are present in concentrations that are both constant, and will not change over time. This state results when the forward reaction is proceeding at the same rate as the reverse reaction. An example of this can be seen in the dissolution of Sodium Chloride in water. If the equilibrium equation NaCl(s) NaCl (aq) is used, we can see that the compound in the solid form is re crystalizing at the same rate as the aqueous form is dissolving. There are 3 main disturbances that can alter equilibrium, a change in concentration of reactants or products, a change in temperature or a change in pressure. According to Le Chatelier s principle, if any of these three is disturbed, the system compensates by shifting the equilibrium to either the left or the right. This can be seen in the equilibrium reactions associated with sea water. In the dissolution process of CO2 discussed before, not all of the CO2 molecules remain dissolved. A small amount react with the water to form carbonic acid (H2CO3), which can be seen in the equation CO2 (aq) + H2O H2CO3 (aq). As carbonic acid is a weak acid, it can dissociate to bicarbonate or carbonate. These two equations respectfully are H2CO3 (aq H+ (aq) + HCO3 (aq), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through Paul s letters it is clear that freedom is an important theme. Paul concludes his claim of the freedom of Abraham s descendants with for freedom Christ has set us free (Galatians 5:1). Paul uses the idea of freedom to persuade the gentile Christians into understanding that they need not enslave themselves to observing Torah. It was proposed to the Galatians that gentile Christians be circumcised. Paul believed this to be an act that would undercut the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and instead enslave us (Galatians 2:4). So in disagreement, Paul urges the gentile Christians to stand firm against the ones who support their circumcision and that the Galatians be burdened by a yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1). Freedom then can become the idea that salvation does not come from being aware of the obligations of Torah. Paul instead, preaches the gospel of salvation by grace through faith. This becomes misinterpreted though, and leads some to believe that sin is acceptable because they are not under law but under grace. The belief that those who have faith in Jesus may live in any fashion without worry of being condemned as sinners and it may even improve God s reputation as gracious and forgiving towards those who have put their faith in Jesus. • 29. Frasnian-Famennian Extinction Abstract The Frasnian Famennian mass extinction in the Late Devonian has often been considered as one of the major 5 extinctions through time. Conflicting interpretations for the cause of this extinction exist, but the role of volcanism is becoming increasingly appealing due to recent advances in radioisotope dating. New K Ar and 40Ar/39Ar ages for the Viluy traps in Siberia suggest multiphase emplacement of the Viluy traps with an early phase likely contributing to the Frasnian Famennian mass extinction. Other work supports this idea of multiphase emplacement. Changes in earth systems during the late Devonian support the argument for the role of volcanism as a root in the destruction of multiple marine habitats during the Late Devonian. One explanation for the Frasnian Famennian extinction involves an initial pulse of Viluy Trap volcanism which lead to elevated levels in the atmosphere, marine anoxia and ultimately extinction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rocks associated with the Viluy traps include dikes, sills, and layered basalt breccia, and are overlain by Late Devonian Early Carboniferous sediments (Ricci et al., 2013). The current extent of the Viluy traps is 800 by 450 km (Gaiduk, 1987; Kiseleve et al., 2006) with a total thickness of sediments up to 9 km and a volume of about 300X103km3 (Kiselev et al., 2006). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like in many other projects, the basic concerns in the power transformer project are schedule and costs, while continuously ensuring that the product meets required specifications and performance any deviation to what is planned constitutes a risk. In practice however, things do not always go according to plan and therefore risk management is needed to ensure that chaos does not prevail. The point that Kippenberger (2000) is making in his article titled there s no such thing as risk free project is that almost everything we do in a project involves a risk of some kind by so saying, it is therefore essential that we are prepared or able to deal with risks. Most literature puts emphasis on the negative connotation that the word risk carries. For instance, Chapman and Ward (2003) provide the meaning of risk as: hazard, chance of bad consequences, loss, and exposure to chance of injury or loss. Galway (2004) defines risk as an event which is uncertain and has negative impact, and similarly, Martin (2008: 38) defines risk as the chance of something occurring that has an adverse effect on the project . This negativity highlights the fact that problems can occur or things can go wrong and it is therefore important to have a systematic approach to managing them. Therefore in project management, risk management is necessary to increase the chances of the proposed project succeeding. 3. THE PROCESS OF MANAGING PROJECT RISKS The process of managing ...
