Japanese Encephalitis Essay
Viral encephalitis is considered as the most common infection in the CNS as it causes acute
inflammation and infection to the brain (S. K. Saxena, 2008) . Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a serious
mosquito borne disease caused by Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) belonging to the family
Flaviviridae (Cha et al., 2014). The Japanese encephalitis virus cause significant morbidity and
mortality by infecting CNS and spinal cord. Japanese encephalitis virus (Flaviviridae, Flavivirus) is an
enveloped virus having 40 50 nm in diameter and it contains single stranded RNA as genome (Vashist,
Bhullar, Vrati, 2011). JE was first reported from Japan as a clinical entity in 1817 later the JEV was
isolated in 1934 from a fetal human case(Erlanger, Weiss, Keiser, Utzinger, Wiedenmayer, 2009). ...

The blood sucking Culex mosquitoes principally Culex tritaeniorhynchus is responsible for the
transmission of Japanese encephalitis to the human population (Tiwari, Singh, Tiwari, Dhole, 2012).
Most infections are sub clinical and arise in rural areas, however transmission is also reported from
urban and peri urban centers(Solomon et al., 2000). Non specific febrile illness including rigors and
diarrhea followed by vomiting and headache were significantly considered as the symptomatic
infection of JEV(V. Saxena, Mishra, Dhole, 2009). In addition to this Convulsions occur

The Culture Of Chin Leadership And Management
Leadership and Management
The culture of China, in terms of management inside of a company is described as each person has a
very clear role and that helps organization to keep things in order. Unlike Serbia and Montenegro
where it has a culture of employees expecting employer to give them detailed directions and no
questions are expected. Generally managers in China use autocratic leadership style. However they
will not embarrass or punish employee publicly or in front of the colleagues. Another important factor
is the hierarchy of Chinese culture. Even though the actual control is at the top of line management
there may be informal interaction between staffs or managers and staffs (Kwintessential.co.uk, 2014).

Chinese culture is more people oriented where role and responsibilities are not stated clearly and when
the problems are faced they seek for teamwork approach no matter which role they are assigned to.
Consequently, each individual can engage themselves in a plethora of ventures in contest of their time
and resources (Busch et al., 2013).
Relationships are vital in China and looking after your network of relationships is viewed as road to
success. For example during the work time people view their coworkers also as friends. If one of them
were in trouble they would help them. The goals of a team are very vital and if the team succeeds
everyone get compensated for the success. If the team fails it would be difficult to blame someone for
not performing the task well. Even though teamwork is motivating and it builds better relationship
between employees as well as trust it can result in resource waste and lack of accountability in the end
results (Connecteast.net, 2014). http://geert hofstede.com/china.html
According to Hofstede China is collectivist in nature, which means they work hard for the result of
group achievement. They do not look so much on individual achievement but stress the group effort.
Teamwork is held in high esteem in China, and is therefore interwoven into the very existence of the
people. The philosophy that they adhere is that the group is more important than any individual

This year holds one of the biggest action event in eight years and it s the election. A new change that
the whole USA sees to act on. There carried lots of bad ideas from one person running for president.
That person is Donald Trump that makes the other feel bad. First of all, the way that Trump effect this

When Twelve Genoese Ships Arrived In 1347 Messina, Sicily,
When twelve Genoese ships arrived in 1347 Messina, Sicily, barely any of the crew were alive. They
were sickly looking and covered in black boils. Quickly, the ships were sent off but it was too late.
Within a few days, the disease started affecting the town, making the Black Death s first of many
appearances in Europe (Martin 12). The Bubonic plague, known as the Black Death, was a disease
that devastated the Western World in late 1347. The disease originated in eastern Asia but was spread
by rat infested ships traveling along trade routes. The people of Europe had never been exposed to the
disease before therefore lacked the necessary antibodies to fight it off. The disease appeared in waves

The abundance of fleas and rats combined with the ability for the disease to become airborne allowed
for rapid spreading, large outbreaks, and high mortality rates. When the Black Plague arrived, Europe
was already in a state of distress. Europe s population had grown so large that it was becoming
difficult to sustain the population. They converted all available land to cereal production to produce
the basic need of bread, but they remained one bad harvest or natural disaster away from death. At the
time, the climate was going through a cold phase. This left Europe with harsh winters and wet
summers allowing for many failed harvests leading to significant famines and deaths (Naphy Spicer
27). The arrival of the plague in Sicily marked the inauguration of the cycle of movement that raged
through Europe. The Plague would slow down during the winter months then regained its fierce
momentum during the summer months as it made its way through the Western World, traveling by
ships and arriving in ports. When the people of Messina first started becoming infected with the
plague, some of them fled to Catania. These immigrants unknowingly brought the plague with them
and the people of Catania began falling ill. Catania imposed quarantine laws, regulations on
immigrants, and buried their dead outside the city walls, but none of it made a difference as hundreds
of people began dying here as well

Knowledge Increases Sorrow

That Increases Knowledge Increases Sorrow Philosophers have struggled with answering the question
of the meaning of life since the time of Plato. In attempts to answer this question they, have
deconstructed this idea and have, in the process, isolated the components of what makes life
meaningful. Among the many components one is the drive to seek wisdom and knowledge in order to
avoid suffering caused by ignorance and finding happiness. (Gyatso, The Meaning of Life: Buddhist
Perspectives on Cause and Effect, 78). There are many discrepancies present as to what constitutes
knowledge. Presently the terms knowledge and information have become ... Show more content on

They have come to conclusion that the only way to be happy is to stay away from depressing and
troubling matters, which to some degree is true, but this does not justify being ignorant about all that
happens in the world. The problem with this ideology hits the very basic of human instincts, the desire
to know. ...we can t deny our thought, or our memories. To deny our thought is to deny our dignity.
Our dignity follows the direction of our thought. (Blaise Pascal). People who hold the sentiment of
ignorance being bliss do not contribute to the evolution of society; they are consumers, not producers.
Society has a wide variety of flaws, such as rape culture, gender inequality, racism, intolerance,
extremism, etc. However, having knowledge about these only adds to one s awareness and it is
because of this awareness that the individual can work towards reducing and henceforth eradicating
these flaws from society. Unaware individuals are simply cogs in the machine, who, because of their
unawareness have no desire to change the world around them. Even if they do, they find themselves
flabbergasted when they try to think of a solution. Pessimism never got anyone anywhere.
Unfortunately being aware of these issues also includes knowing about the terrifying stories of people
who have been wronged. We can agree to the fact that rape is prevalent in society and that it is
difficult to talk about without feeling uncomfortable. The

Effects Of Urbanisation On The Hydrology Of A Catchment
Question 1 a) Explain the affects that Urbanisation can have on the hydrology of a catchment. Outline
how SuDs can mitigate these impacts and explain the role and features of the following systems:
Permeable pavements Swale Detention Ponds Urbanisation affects the hydrology of a catchment in
various ways, it causes issues with the natural drainage of the environment by blocking stream
channels and removing trees which help break the momentum of rain. Urbanisation creates a lot of
surfaces that are impermeable which causes water build up, the water picks up pollutants and
chemicals and these are dispersed into streams and rivers. Roads and pavements collect rainwater and
channel it into waterways rather than letting it disperse into the ground, like it would if it had not had
any human intervention. SuDs have been introduced within construction projects now in order mimic
the natural drainage pattern of a specific area, these SuDs that are now being introduced are aiding
urban developments in allowing surface water to be managed well without causing any impact on
other sites. Permeable paving comes in a range of materials, it was designed to allow water through a
surface that would have usually be impermeable, they are generally used on pathways, lawns and
roads that only take light vehicle movements. They essentially reduce surface water run off, which
traps solids and filters some pollutants from the water, they also give urban trees the chance to grow to

Communication Is The Most Important Aspect Of Being A...
One of the biggest challenges facing leaders/managers is communication, yet it is the most important
aspect of being a leader/manager. Communication builds trust and trust is a powerful force that builds
loyalty, increases credibility and supports effective communications. It gives you the benefit of the
doubt in situations where you want to be heard, understood and believed. For instance, developing a
new policy or changing a current policy, communication is vital for all physicians and employees to
know, apply, educate, and inforce. Formal and informal communication are just a few ways to
communicate information (Beslin, 2004).
Formal communication is a type of verbal presentation or document intended to share information and
which conforms to established professional rules, standards, and process. There are four types of
formal communication such as: Upward or Bottom up, Downward or Top down, Horizontal or Lateral,
and Crosswise or Diagonal. Upward or Bottom up, is the communication in which the flow of
information goes from sub ordinate to superior authority. Next is Downward or Top down, which is
the communication in which the flow of information goes from superior to sub ordinates. Another one
is Horizontal or Lateral, which is the communication between two employees of different departments
working at the same level. Last is Crosswise or Diagonal, which is the communication between the
employees of two different departments working at different levels (Surbhi, 2016).

Equivalent Model Essay
With respect to mechanical equivalent models, various mechanical equivalent models have been
proposed for sandwich structures[11 14]; however, a certain equivalent model is usually and directly
utilized as a research tool by previous investigations, rather than selecting an optimum equivalent
model most suitable for aluminum honeycomb panels. The improper use of equivalent model in
previous studies inevitably led to larger deviations. In this study, generally used mechanical equivalent
models for sandwich structure are discussed and compared to the experimental data; further, the
optimum equivalent model was determined and modified to reflect the mechanical properties of

Students Face A Different Education System
Welcome international students! It must be exciting to start your education in the U.S.A. Here students
face a different education system which may seem confusing at first due to the rules of avoiding
plagiarism. International students often find that the education system that they are used to has
different views on plagiarism compared to the U.S education system. As a result of this difference in
education systems, new students may unintentionally plagiarise. However, according to U.S
universities, a person commits plagiarism if they present the ideas or words of another person as their
own without proper recognition of the original author (Indiana University, 2005, Paragraph 2). When
international students don t understand the concept of plagiarism according to U.S universities, it is
difficult for them to study and work in the universities. However, it is possible to understand American
universities view towards plagiarism by understanding their outlook towards intellectual property, the
implications of committing plagiarism and its consequences. To understand the idea that American
institutes have about plagiarism, we need to first understand the American perspective about
intellectual property. In America, every person s intellectual work is their own property. When using
an author s idea or research findings from journals, books, articles, etc. their work has to be recognised
since it is their property. So proper recognition or credit, also known as citation should

Examples Of Warning Signs In Dracula

that there are so many warning signs presented to Jonathan Harker as he makes his way to
Transylvania and at the beginning of his stay at Count Dracula s house. For example, all the
superstitious reactions from the villagers, the very strange ride up to the castle, the lack of servants,
and Count Dracula s odd demeanor. All of these things should cause alarm in Harker, yet he continues

questioned in society today: why are so many females sexually assaulted?

The New York Stock Market
Mentioned the words stock market to anyone in the United States and you are likely to get a vast array
of comments, from excitement over making lots of money, to anger of losing lots of money. Everyone
seems to have an opinion about the stock market, yet only about 50 percent of Americans are invested
in the stock market. A troubling aspect is that few individuals actually understand how the stock
market works. These individuals are taking a risk by investing in stocks that they do not truly
understand. An individual choosing to invest on their own, without the advice of a financial
professional, is like a person self diagnosing a major illness; the results could be devastating and
irreversible. To achieve financial success through investing in the stock market it is imperative that an
individual work with a financial professional who will help them properly state their goals and
objectives, design a properly allocated portfolio, determine their risk tolerance, and guide them in the
ongoing investing process. The New York Stock Exchange has been a part of the United States
financial landscape almost as long as the country has existed. Less than twenty years after the signing
of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the forefathers of the American dream started what would
become the most dominate stock exchange in the world. The history of the New York Stock Exchange
begins with the signing of the Buttonwood Agreement by twenty four New York City

Why Is Huck Finn Being Civilized

I love being educated and being civilized. Huckleberry Finn, on the other hand, hates the idea of both

Miracles In The Book Grand Miracle By C. S. Lewis
Miracles by C.S Lewis centers on miracles in his book he wrote about the Grand Miracle which can be
found in chapter 14. He mentioned how these miracles and other biblical stories have influenced the
Christian worldview. In the sense that Miracle as laid this foundation for Christians and their basic
makeup of the world. He stated his views about miracles he believes there are two ways we can view
and interpret miracles which is nature and supernature. The fitness or credibility, of the Grand miracle
itself cannot obviously, be judged by the same standard (page 174). The people who view miracles
from a supernatural perspective accept that there is an empirical proof which is not just clear in history
that can validate all the importance of the Grand Miracle that the Christian religion believe exist.
While the people who view miracles using the natural perspective disagree that there is no any

Compare and Contrast Brutus and Macbeth
Brutus vs. Macbeth through Power, Ambition, and Honor Absolute power corrupts absolutely, unless
one knows how to use it, it shall not corrupt. Everyone has ambitions, a strong desire of achieving
great things, and some will do whatever it takes to achieve their goal. Honor is a title one receives
through their noble acts; but some honorable and strongly ambitious people may go as far as to give
up their noble title to accomplish their purpose. William Shakespeare is a well known English poet

It must be by his death; and for my part,/ I know no personal cause to spurn at him,/ but for the
general. (Julius Caesar, II.i.10 12). Brutus has no other reason to kill Caesar than for the greater good
of Rome, whereas Macbeth killed more than three people for his own benefit. Macbeth first kills
Duncan to become king; then Banquo and his son to make sure that they shall not be kings, but
unfortunately for him, Fleance escaped; and finally Macduff s family, though he was mainly aiming
for Macduff himself. The heroes ambitious deed also led them to lose everything. Aforementioned,
Brutus only killed Caesar for the good of Rome. However, in allowing Mark Anthony to speak at
Caesar s funeral, Brutus made himself and the conspirators the most hated people in Rome. To have
the citizens despise him was not what Brutus had planned, therefore he has lost half of what he had
admiration from the people, the meaning of his life. To make matters worse, Portia, Brutus s noble
wife, killed herself by swallowing coal. It is not known if Brutus had other family members, therefore
it can safely be concluded that he had lost everything, his fame and wife. Macbeth falls in a similar
matter, first losing his friend and relative Duncan; then his comrade in the field, Banquo; his wife; and
most importantly himself. For killing countless people, Macbeth s guilt slowly builds in him, and at

Why Is Kareem Abdul Jabbar Important
Kareem Abdul Jabbar is widely considered the best player to ever play the center position. Whether

person behind Kareem, Karl Malone. Kareem accomplished this by his great offensive ability in the

The Music Of The Band Heart
I imagine this doesn t apply to everyone, as each person is different and I know some people don t
listen to music (Gasp!). But in general, it seems as if music has the ability to move us. I ve thought
about this quite a bit, but the video of the band Heart s live cover of Led Zeppelin s Stairway to
Heaven really made me wonder (pun not intended. Seriously, though, if you haven t seen it, it s
nothing short of mind blowing; one of the best Stairway covers in a long time). I enjoy listening to
almost every kind of music, but my personal favorite has to be classic, golden age rock and roll (1960s
through 1980s, with some songs from other decades scattered throughout). I know some people who
will roll their eyes and mentally groan, I know! , at me bringing up my three favorite bands again (for
the record, they re 1) Queen, 2) Alice Cooper, 3) Aerosmith; not in order of preference, but the order
of when I got into them) but I don t let it get to me. (If I do, that s what my music binges are for). To
me, they never stop sounding amazing. Anyways, when I listen to it, it seems to control my emotions.
I have a chemical and physical response to the music. I know this happens with a lot of people. Why
do we seem to have such a powerful connection with music? Well, maybe because it affects each one
of us differently, there is no set answer; instead, there are many possible effects, such as... Dancing:

their friends in their head. Two main points proven in Night by Elie Wiesel is how he created stronger
bonds with people and how he lost faith in someone he use to praise and pray to every day. When

crematorium. The Nazis were looking for healthy, strong, and fit people. Since Ellie was young and
his father was old at the time, they probably wouldn t have met the Nazis requirements. Likewise,
another moment of hope was when Ellie shared his soup with his sick father and states Did you eat?
No. They wouldn t give us anything... I gave him what was left of my soup. (Wiesel 107). Even
though Elie is hungry too, he still managed to give up half of his soup. His father is on the verge of
death and people are telling him to stop caring for his father, but he still continues to share his meals
with him. Provided that, Elie has created a much bigger connection with his father rather than just the
father and son role. In the end, the result of inhumanity can cause people to change for the better and
help people a lot

Introduction
Water is essential for all living things to survive. Without water, life would be impossible. Seventy
percent of the world is covered by water but only 2.5 percent is fresh water. (1) Not only is freshwater
used for domestic and personal purposes, it is also used for irrigation, thermoelectric, industrial and
agriculture. (2) Although freshwater seems to be untarnished, it regularly contains a variety of solutes
ranging from gas in the environment to inorganic salts and minerals of rocks. Due to the ions
dissolved, the water has a possibility to be hard or soft.
Water hardness is defined as the amount of dissolved calcium and magnesium in the water. (2) In
order to have hard water, calcium (Ca^(2+)) and magnesium (Mg^(2+)) need to have a high
concentration of both ions dissolved into the water. Depending on the amount of dissolved minerals,
water hardness has the possibility of being detected without actually experimentally testing for it.
Have you ever felt like you still had residue on your hands after washing with soap? This is the effect
of the calcium ions reacting with the soap. These effects have no effects for humans when drinking
this water but industries worry about their water s hardness for one main reason.
Studying water hardness is important because

Workplace Literature Review
Resource will give me knowledge on how to successfully run a company. The Reducing conflict
related employee strain: The benefits of an internal locus of control and a problem solving conflict
management strategy article focus on the relationship between workplace conflict and psychological
strain. It is therefore not surprising that in the past 20 years, scholars, as well as practitioners, have
attended to workplace conflict and its consequences for individual and team performance. As a result,
our understanding of how workplace conflict affects the welfare of organizations in terms of
productivity and individual and team performance is quite developed.... However, attention should
also be given to the consequences of conflict for the welfare of the individual members of
organizations, which is reflected in stress related outcomes such as psychological strain . (Dijkstra,
2011) Basically, the article discusses how workplace conflicts can have an influence on performance,
and mental health. I do believe job conflicts can strongly affect individuals work performance and
their mental health.
Employers need to apply strategies will help solve conflicts in an organization and it will help create a
well organized environment and improve employee effectiveness. Diversity issues can cause serious
conflict in the workforce and I will like to be addressed this in my dissertation. The Managing

Application Of An Software For Soft Ware Essay
The hypothesis will be tested by the insights collected through the data analysis. By inter views
conducted, we will develop a set of standards required for the development of soft ware. A technical
document will be prepared and sent for evaluation to the certified soft ware professional to check the
accuracy and feasibility of the software solution. The similar software will be procured through public
procurement, and users will be tested on the platform, which are going to avail and offer the services.
Then they will be inter viewed again to know their viewpoints on the platform. The biggest challenge
for us is to examine their satisfaction level after availing the ser vices. For this, we will interview them
again with questions like how they find it easier while availing services through e governance

modes like window mode or online mode. Then by that, I will figure out whether the research of an

The Principles Of Supply Chain And Inventory Control
Case Overview
Harvey Industries is a Wisconsin company specializing in production, assembly, repair and the sales
of high pressure washer systems. Due to the death of the owner, the trustee of the bank Milwaukee
Bank has taken control of the company s affairs. Milwaukee appointed a new company president and
he has identified several problems, one of which pertaining to the inventory control system. The new
president requested recommendations among his employees on revising the inventory control system
and detailed analysis as to why these changes are to be implemented. To improve the inventory
management system the best way would be to identify the systems weakness and the impacts of which
they are to the company financially. Harvey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Case Summary
When creating an inventory management system, it is crucial to include team performance among
employees of the inventory supply chain. The team should know what materials are needed and if
possible find a way to reduce costs.
Inventory management is a core operations management activity (Stevenson, 2016). The Inventory
Management and Control needs to be designed to meet the demand of the marketplace and still be able
to support the company, and any plans to expand, etc. The structure of inventories is important for the
supply chain in order to have an effective material flow and order fulfillment. In the case for Harvey
Industries, the inventory control system would prompt the stockroom supervisor, purchasing and
manufacturing manager to place orders for goods to be replenished, whenever one of them finds the
materials have been depleted. Often, prompting trade offs in inventory and poor inventory
management results in a lower productivity value in operations, decreasing customer satisfaction
resulting in an increase in operating costs.
Analysis
In the management of an inventory system it cannot be run with a sole single person who is
responsible for managing inventory. It cannot be done as there are too many items to track and tons of
information flowing through. So there is no

Discuss The Relationship Between Attitudes And Behaviour
The relationship between attitudes and behaviour is one of the most popular topics in social
psychology. We form attitudes from mainly our own personal experiences including influences from
other people. Fishbein and Ajzen (1975) agreed with the idea about how direct experience, form our
attitudes i.e. if you had a horrible time at the hospital getting a needle. Then you may develop a
negative attitude to all hospitals. Alhough the definition of attitudes can not be confirmed yet, this
essay uses the description in Hogg s and Vaughan s book (1995) that attitudes are a general feeling or
evaluation about persons, object or issue as well as a relatively enduring organization of beliefs,
feelings and behavioural tendencies towards socially significant objects, groups, evens or symbols .
This definition indicates that there is a close relationship between attitudes and behaviour.

My Bike-Personal Narrative
It was in August. I was 8 and my dad told me that we were going to ride our bikes near the
Appalachian Trail. I didn t want to, but he had a rule that if you wanted to do screen time, you had to
do something outdoors. So, we got in my dad s red truck and headed to Vernon, New Jersey, where my
dad wanted us to ride our bikes. When we got there, we pulled out our bikes from the truck. That s
when my bike tipped over and fell on my leg. When it fell, I felt a sharp pain where it landed. I pushed
my bike off and realized that my leg was bleeding because of a cut. The cut was deep. As soon as my
dad saw this, he ran over, took off his sock, and tied it on my leg. Then he helped me into our truck
and drove home. On the drive home, he told me that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Victorianism Versus Modernism
Matias Gutierrez

World Literature

Victorianism in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Modernism in The Metamorphosis
Victorianism is about how the individual could improve the society. They believed that a good
individual could make the society better as a whole and therefore improve life. Victorians focused on
science and the desire for extremely realistic portrayal of life in both literature and art. Some aspects
of Victorian thinking were retained while others were discarded in a new movement called
Modernism. Modernists focus on the individual but have the view that humans are beings without free
will and that they do not look for guidance within them, but instead are driven by ... Show more

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde showed people that being a good person is the best thing
to do for society and for the individual.
The reason Jekyll is a good example to show the Victorian qualities of science exploration and the
effects the individual has on the world is explained by Masao, In this society of respectables Dr. Jekyll
stands out as the very pink of the proprieties (Chap. 1). Although his studies, like those of Faust and
Frankenstein before him, tend toward the mystic and the transcendental (Ch. 10), he still manages to
maintain a considerable scientific reputation. And yet, despite Jekyll s social role in fact, because of it
it is Jekyll who brings for Mr. Hyde. (Masao 470 480) Masao explains why Jekyll underwent his
transformation and how science heavily influenced his thinking to try this experiment. Masao also
explains that science is possible through the well mannered people of the time and their questioning of
ways to improve society. The Modernism Period was about the individual and that the individual
could not really change society. The Modernist literary period was marked by the reactions and
sentiments towards global change and tragedy. The Modernist movement began around 1890 and
lasted to 1945. Now during this time the World Wars wreaked havoc on the most culturally,
technological, and industrialized parts of the world; which caused people to want to create

Plato s The Republic and The Apology
In Plato s The Republic and The Apology, the topic of justice is examined from multiple angles in an
attempt to discover what justice is, as well as why living a just life is desirable. Plato, writing through
Socrates, identifies in The Republic what he thought justice was through the creation of an ideal city
and an ideal soul. Both the ideal city and the ideal soul have three components which, when all are
acting harmoniously, create what Socrates considers to be justice. Before he outlines this city and soul,
he listens to the arguments of three men who hold popular ideas of the period. These men act to
legitimize Socrates arguments because he finds logical errors in all of their opinions. In The Apology,
a different, more down to Earth, Socrates is presented who, through his self defense in court, reveals a
different, even contradictory, view of the justice presented in The Republic. In this paper, the full
argument of justice from The Republic will be examined, as well as the possible inconsistencies
between The Republic and The Apology. Socrates three opponents in The Republic come in the form
of Cephalus, Polemarchus, and Thrasymachus. Cephalus provides his opinion first, which is that
justice is defined by, truthfulness and returning anything we have borrowed (The Republic, 331C).
Socrates quickly counters, and says that Cephalus interpretation of justice cannot be right, because, if
one borrowed a weapon from a friend who subsequently went out of his mind

Also The Truman Doctrine was the first message that America prepared to global leadership and also
this doctrine shows that the isolationism policy of America has ended.
The Truman Doctrine
At the present moment in world history nearly every nation must choose between alternative ways of
life. The choice is too often not a free one. One way of life is based upon the will of the majority, and
is distinguished by free institutions, representative government, free elections, and guarantees of
individual liberty, freedom of speech and religion, and freedom from political oppression. The second
way of life is based upon the will of a minority forcibly imposed upon the majority. It relies upon
terror and oppression, a controlled press and radio, fixed elections, and the suppression of personal
freedoms. I believe that it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are
resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures. I believe that we must
assist free peoples to work out their own destinies in their own way. I believe that our help should be
primarily through economic stability and orderly political process.
President Harry S. Truman, March 12, 1947
After this policy United States of America started to apply three main missions. These missions are;
1) Try to provide military, economic and political stabilization of Europe.
2) Cover the Europe

Objectifies Women By Jeremy Merkel Summary
This week the essay that made the largest impact on me was Marketing to Tweens Objectifies Women

objectified by marketing. Merkel clearly dislikes the idea of marketing sexy clothes to young girls and
teens. As a mother to three girls I have kept my girls from these types of stores. Which is easy to do
when you live 280 miles from the nearest mall with any of the stores mentioned in the article. The
rules for my girls were and are they can were light colored eye shadow and tented lip gloss when they

My Personal Statement Of One Phone Call
Who would have thought that one phone call could change my whole life? I recall I was in the kitchen
grabbing a snack from the fridge when my phone rang. I remember that before even hanging up with
Ms. Rola, I found all my family around me hugging and congratulating me. I couldn t believe it at
first. After years of hard work, I made it to AUB with a full scholarship to a major that I always had a
passion in. Something to be proud of, right? I was thrilled, but scared at the same time. I knew that
AUB will be a big challenge, a different environment with different people and a different lifestyle.
Nevertheless, I was up for it. I always wanted to become an AUB student yet it was a burden to afford
such prestigious education, knowing that my father is the only breadwinner of the family. He used to
always tell me: Do not worry about the money, everything will work out eventually , but I knew that
he was just comforting me. By the time I got the call, I was already planning my next year at a public
university. I still remember my father s face the moment he knew about the scholarship as he hugged
me and whispered to me that he is very proud of my achievements.
The first few days at AUB were weird. People here were different! I was lost and I didn t know
anybody here. The whole campus gave me a hard time but I was determined to make it through.
During my sophomore year, I had the chance to be involved in multiple community service activities.

Police Accountability
Throughout the past 50 years, there have been great changes in both the legal and constitutional status
of the police forces within England and Wales, (Reiner, 2010:206) and parallel to this, the concept of
accountability within the police forces has become a controversial yet universal concept with regards
to the encompassing regulation of the police, their performance and the use of their approved legal
powers (Jones, 2008). Specifically, within the last twenty years, many issues have triggered
controversy within the general public with reference to police accountability within England and
Wales, such issues including, corruption, abuse of powers, discrimination, racial bias, and the
perceived effectiveness of crime control. In turn, these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

critically, ensured that no singular government agent would be able to control the police for the gain of

independence . In the past, such independence has allowed chief constables to direct their identifiable

the risk of criminal charges being brought against them being very minimal. Over the past 20 years,
many questions have been raised by police officers, politicians and the general public alike as to the
effectiveness of these arrangements. As a consequence, there have been many attempts of major

Performance Enhancing Drugs ? Draft

Performance Enhancing Drugs
The role of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) can be found as far back as 776BC ? 393BC in the
original Olympic Games. (Drug Use in Sports Historical Timeline, 2013) Even back then, the athletes
vied for huge cash prizes, as well as having the honor of wearing the olive wreath. These athletes ate
meat, which was not a normal staple back then, as well as herbal medications, including
hallucinogens, in an effort to boost their performances. In 100AD, Roman gladiators used stimulants
and hallucinogens to avoid fatigue and possible injuries. Even during the Modern Olympic Games in
1904 1920, athletes were using PEDs, made up of a mixture of brandy and strychnine (a stimulant). In
fact, one marathon runner nearly died from such a concoction. Other mixtures, besides strychnine,
included the use of heroin, cocaine, and caffeine; until heroin and cocaine were only available in
prescriptions in the 1920s. So, in 1928, the International Association of Athletics Foundation (IAAF),
the ruling body of track and field, became the first organization to prohibit ?doping? by athletes. On a
side note, the term doping was attributed to the Dutch word ?doop?, which is an opium juice.
Amphetamines were also used during WWII to combat fatigue in soldiers,

Consequently, each individual can engage themselves in a plethora of ventures in contest of their time and resources (Busch et al., 2013). Relationships are vital in China and looking after your network of relationships is viewed as road to success. For example during the work time people view their coworkers also as friends. If one of them were in trouble they would help them. The goals of a team are very vital and if the team succeeds everyone get compensated for the success. If the team fails it would be difficult to blame someone for not performing the task well. Even though teamwork is motivating and it builds better relationship between employees as well as trust it can result in resource waste and lack of accountability in the end results (Connecteast.net, 2014). http://geert hofstede.com/china.html According to Hofstede China is collectivist in nature, which means they work hard for the result of group achievement. When the Black Plague arrived, Europe was already in a state of distress. Europe s population had grown so large that it was becoming difficult to sustain the population. They converted all available land to cereal production to produce the basic need of bread, but they remained one bad harvest or natural disaster away from death. At the time, the climate was going through a cold phase. This left Europe with harsh winters and wet summers allowing for many failed harvests leading to significant famines and deaths (Naphy Spicer 27). The arrival of the plague in Sicily marked the inauguration of the cycle of movement that raged through Europe. The Plague would slow down during the winter months then regained its fierce momentum during the summer months as it made its way through the Western World, traveling by ships and arriving in ports. Knowledge Increases Sorrow Muhammad Ali Fawad Dr. Aamna Khalid Writing and Communication (SS 100) 17 March 2013 He That Increases Knowledge Increases Sorrow Philosophers have struggled with answering the question of the meaning of life since the time of Plato. In attempts to answer this question they, have deconstructed this idea and have, in the process, isolated the components of what makes life meaningful. Among the many components one is the drive to seek wisdom and knowledge in order to avoid suffering caused by ignorance and finding happiness. They have come to conclusion that the only way to be happy is to stay away from depressing and troubling matters, which to some degree is true, but this does not justify being ignorant about all that happens in the world. The problem with this ideology hits the very basic of human instincts, the desire to know. ...we can t deny our thought, or our memories. To deny our thought is to deny our dignity. Our dignity follows the direction of our thought. (Blaise Pascal). People who hold the sentiment of ignorance being bliss do not contribute to the evolution of society; they are consumers, not producers. Society has a wide variety of flaws, such as rape culture, gender inequality, racism, intolerance, extremism, etc. However, having knowledge about these only adds to one s awareness and it is because of this awareness that the individual can work towards reducing and henceforth eradicating these flaws from society. Unaware individuals are simply cogs in the machine, who, because of their unawareness have no desire to change the world around them. Even if they do, they find themselves flabbergasted when they try to think of a solution. Pessimism never got anyone anywhere. Unfortunately being aware of these issues also includes knowing about the terrifying stories of people who have been wronged. We can agree to the fact that rape is prevalent in society and that it is difficult to talk about without feeling uncomfortable. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Effects Of Urbanisation On The Hydrology Of A Catchment Question 1 a) Explain the affects that Urbanisation can have on the hydrology of a catchment. Outline how SuDs can mitigate these impacts and explain the role and features of the following systems: Permeable pavements Swale Detention Ponds Urbanisation affects the hydrology of a catchment in various ways, it causes issues with the natural drainage of the environment by blocking stream channels and removing trees which help break the momentum of rain. Urbanisation creates a lot of surfaces that are impermeable which causes water build up, the water picks up pollutants and chemicals and these are dispersed into streams and rivers. Roads and pavements collect rainwater and channel it into waterways rather than letting it disperse into the ground, like it would if it had not had any human intervention. SuDs have been introduced within construction projects now in order mimic the natural drainage pattern of a specific area, these SuDs that are now being introduced are aiding urban developments in allowing surface water to be managed well without causing any impact on other sites. Permeable paving comes in a range of materials, it was designed to allow water through a surface that would have usually be impermeable, they are generally used on pathways, lawns and roads that only take light vehicle movements. They essentially reduce surface water run off, which traps solids and filters some pollutants from the water, they also give urban trees the chance to grow to full ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Students Face A Different Education System Welcome international students! It must be exciting to start your education in the U.S.A. Here students face a different education system which may seem confusing at first due to the rules of avoiding plagiarism. International students often find that the education system that they are used to has different views on plagiarism compared to the U.S education system. As a result of this difference in education systems, new students may unintentionally plagiarise. However, according to U.S universities, a person commits plagiarism if they present the ideas or words of another person as their own without proper recognition of the original author (Indiana University, 2005, Paragraph 2). When international students don t understand the concept of plagiarism according to U.S universities, it is difficult for them to study and work in the universities. However, it is possible to understand American universities view towards plagiarism by understanding their outlook towards intellectual property, the implications of committing plagiarism and its consequences. To understand the idea that American institutes have about plagiarism, we need to first understand the American perspective about intellectual property. In America, every person s intellectual work is their own property. When using an author s idea or research findings from journals, books, articles, etc. their work has to be recognised since it is their property. Examples Of Warning Signs In Dracula Stoker, Dracula (1879), pages 9 74 Ch1 6 What I found immediately interesting about this novel is that there are so many warning signs presented to Jonathan Harker as he makes his way to Transylvania and at the beginning of his stay at Count Dracula s house. For example, all the superstitious reactions from the villagers, the very strange ride up to the castle, the lack of servants, and Count Dracula s odd demeanor. All of these things should cause alarm in Harker, yet he continues on with his task anyway. I wonder what makes him ignore these obvious signs? The New York Stock Market Mentioned the words stock market to anyone in the United States and you are likely to get a vast array of comments, from excitement over making lots of money, to anger of losing lots of money. Everyone seems to have an opinion about the stock market, yet only about 50 percent of Americans are invested in the stock market. A troubling aspect is that few individuals actually understand how the stock market works. These individuals are taking a risk by investing in stocks that they do not truly understand. An individual choosing to invest on their own, without the advice of a financial professional, is like a person self diagnosing a major illness; the results could be devastating and irreversible. To achieve financial success through investing in the stock market it is imperative that an individual work with a financial professional who will help them properly state their goals and objectives, design a properly allocated portfolio, determine their risk tolerance, and guide them in the ongoing investing process. The New York Stock Exchange has been a part of the United States financial landscape almost as long as the country has existed. Less than twenty years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the forefathers of the American dream started what would become the most dominate stock exchange in the world. Everyone has ambitions, a strong desire of achieving great things, and some will do whatever it takes to achieve their goal. Honor is a title one receives through their noble acts; but some honorable and strongly ambitious people may go as far as to give up their noble title to accomplish their purpose. Macbeth first kills Duncan to become king; then Banquo and his son to make sure that they shall not be kings, but unfortunately for him, Fleance escaped; and finally Macduff s family, though he was mainly aiming for Macduff himself. The heroes ambitious deed also led them to lose everything. Aforementioned, Brutus only killed Caesar for the good of Rome. Without water, life would be impossible. Seventy percent of the world is covered by water but only 2.5 percent is fresh water. (1) Not only is freshwater used for domestic and personal purposes, it is also used for irrigation, thermoelectric, industrial and agriculture. (2) Although freshwater seems to be untarnished, it regularly contains a variety of solutes ranging from gas in the environment to inorganic salts and minerals of rocks. Due to the ions dissolved, the water has a possibility to be hard or soft. Water hardness is defined as the amount of dissolved calcium and magnesium in the water. (2) In order to have hard water, calcium (Ca^(2+)) and magnesium (Mg^(2+)) need to have a high concentration of both ions dissolved into the water. Depending on the amount of dissolved minerals, water hardness has the possibility of being detected without actually experimentally testing for it. Have you ever felt like you still had residue on your hands after washing with soap? This is the effect of the calcium ions reacting with the soap. These effects have no effects for humans when drinking this water but industries worry about their water s hardness for one main reason. Studying water hardness is important because ... The team should know what materials are needed and if possible find a way to reduce costs. Inventory management is a core operations management activity (Stevenson, 2016). The Inventory Management and Control needs to be designed to meet the demand of the marketplace and still be able to support the company, and any plans to expand, etc. The structure of inventories is important for the supply chain in order to have an effective material flow and order fulfillment. In the case for Harvey Industries, the inventory control system would prompt the stockroom supervisor, purchasing and manufacturing manager to place orders for goods to be replenished, whenever one of them finds the materials have been depleted. Often, prompting trade offs in inventory and poor inventory management results in a lower productivity value in operations, decreasing customer satisfaction resulting in an increase in operating costs. Plato s The Republic and The Apology In Plato s The Republic and The Apology, the topic of justice is examined from multiple angles in an attempt to discover what justice is, as well as why living a just life is desirable. Plato, writing through Socrates, identifies in The Republic what he thought justice was through the creation of an ideal city and an ideal soul. Both the ideal city and the ideal soul have three components which, when all are acting harmoniously, create what Socrates considers to be justice. Before he outlines this city and soul, he listens to the arguments of three men who hold popular ideas of the period. These men act to legitimize Socrates arguments because he finds logical errors in all of their opinions. In The Apology, a different, more down to Earth, Socrates is presented who, through his self defense in court, reveals a different, even contradictory, view of the justice presented in The Republic. In this paper, the full argument of justice from The Republic will be examined, as well as the possible inconsistencies between The Republic and The Apology. Socrates three opponents in The Republic come in the form of Cephalus, Polemarchus, and Thrasymachus. Cephalus provides his opinion first, which is that justice is defined by, truthfulness and returning anything we have borrowed (The Republic, 331C).
