Education And Awareness Of Advanced Directives
Despite advanced public education and awareness of advanced directives there have been times when if
care is placed in the hands of physicians without a durable power of attorney, those wishes could be
terminated (CPOS, 2013). While most of the public would agree that not following specific end of life
choices is an unethical act, some hospital staff feels as though life saving measures may not be
appropriate in all situations, despite a written and signed document. The case that is analyzed in this
paper involves a man with end stage renal failure who clearly voiced and wrote his wishes on paper in
the presence of his primary physician and nephrologist. Without family or friends to act as his power of
attorney, a POLST form was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marks wishes were documented on paper and signed by himself, his primary physician and
nephrologist. Although he had schizoaffective disorder, this was medically treated and he was very
capable of making decisions. Months later Mark s health status began to deteriorate and he was sent to
the hospital after a dialysis treatment due to low blood pressure. In the hospital, his mental status
declined and a palliative care physician was consulted. The doctor noted that Mr. Turner did not have
the mental capacity to make decisions and his hospital doctor, Dr. Roper, claimed that the patient told
him to withhold all life sustaining medical treatment, even though this was not documented. Over a
period of time and deliberation among the medical staff, the decision was made to withdraw dialysis
and send Mark back to a nursing home on hospice, overriding his wishes of CPR and intubation if
necessary (CPOS, 2013).
End of life decisions are often not thought about until a serious illness or life event occurs. Specific
treatment during the dying process may encompass simple to extremely complex decisions involving
physical, legal, medical, spiritual, or psychosocial needs. Research shows that more than 75% of
Americans have thought about their end of life wishes, but had not put those decisions in writing or
designated someone on an advanced directive who would make decisions on

Through this scheme, it may help the economy but it do raise another impacts which may unstabilize
the society, such as the quality migrant may enhance the cultural difference.
To sum up, same sex marriage has destroyed the traditional system of marriage. This cannot be solved
by adopting children, in addition, homosexual parents may lead the negative impacts to their adopted
child and may affect their childhood. Furthermore, labour force will be lowered if same sex marriage
be legalized since the amount of offspring are lowered cause the rate of traditional marriages decreased.
With less amount of labour force in the society, the productivity may also decreased. Consequently,
same sex marriage should not be legalized in Hong Kong.

Research Paper On The Ugly Puppy In The Window
The Ugly Puppy in the Window
It s nearly impossible to walk by a pet store and to ignore the cute puppies in the window. Their paws
leaning against the glass, they re begging us to take them home and out of an impulse, some people
occasionally do. Taking a puppy home and introducing it to its new environment is usually associated
with great joy. Their clumsy behavior, wagging tails, and curious noses make everyone smile, and you
don t have to be a dog lover to fall for these big puppy eyes. What a lot of people don t know when
they purchase a puppy at a pet store, however, is that the little dog might have spent its first few weeks
in a large breeding facility where dogs are bred for sole profit, commonly known as a puppy mill.
Although the USDA, the United States Department of Agriculture, has laws in place to keep these
animals safe, the housing and husbandry standards are often barely minimal, leading to suffering
puppies and breeding females with terrible health concerns, as well as psychological traumas.
The Humane Society of the United States estimates that there are currently around 10,000 puppy mills
in the US which produce 2.11 million puppies for retail a year (Puppy ... Show more content on

limited to: epilepsy, heart disease, musculoskeletal disorders, deafness, eye problems, and respiratory
disorders. Indeed, 34% of the complaints with the Humane Society reported congenital defects. Sick
dogs and females that can no longer breed usually face three options. In the worst case, they are
neglected and slowly die a painful death. Some of them are euthanized by the miller, meaning they are
shot, drowned, or suffocated. The lucky ones will be given away to shelters or sold at auctions. Even
though these dogs are saved, they still have a long way to

Supreme Court Case Analysis
Well first of all, the supreme court is the highest judicial court in a country or state. The highest federal
court in the US, consisting of nine justices and taking judicial precedence over all other courts in the
nation (wikipedia.com). The supreme courts job is simply the final judge. In all cases involving laws of
congress, or the constitution, the supreme court gets to make the final judgement. However, it is not all
powerful. The power of the supreme court is limited by two other branches of government.
(scholastic.com). Now how do people get a job as a justice of the supreme court? Well the president
gets to appoint each justice. How do the justices decide to hear a case or not? Not just any case can be
heard by the supreme court so what makes the cases the supreme court does hear special? The cases
that the supreme court hears are ones that deal with issues with the federal law. or if they fall within the
limits of the federal government the supreme court might decide to hear them. If a case only has to do
with county or state laws than this case will most likely stay within the states jurisdiction, or the states
court system. The supreme court is the very last step to most cases.

Analysis Of The Story Happy Birthday Chrissie
Introduction
In an apartment in New York City a woman cried in her room. The woman was 23 and would usually
be called beautiful but today her hair was unkempt and her face was covered in the same smudged
makeup from the day before. Her room was trashed, and the woman was curled on her bed hugging a
banner that read happy birthday. The rest of the house seemed untouched. In the living room a pile of
gifts lay wrapped on the table and a painstakingly crafted cake stood on the counter the inscription in
bright blue happy lettering read Happy Birthday Chrissie. A note lay on the counter next to the cake, a
note that Chrissie would never forget. The note marked the change in Chrissie s life her life would now
be split: before the accident and after. The note was written by a man named Aaron, the man who baked
the cake. Upstairs Chrissie cried, alone, in the same position she had lay for hours, to her it seemed like
that was her whole life. She clutched the birthday banner that was meant to celebrate her 23rd but
would now just mark the day of the accident.

Communism In Germany
It all started when the rise of the Nazi Party came. Under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, and founded in
1919, the National Socialist German Workers Party, or Nazi Party, grew into much more than a meeting
on the streets. It grew into a mass movement. The movement itself was Anti Semitism and had much
turmoil with the Treaty of Versailles. It had helped put an end to the first World War. Once Hitler was
given power over Germany, he swiftly persuaded the people against the Treaty. In 1929, Germany was
in a state of economic depression, and unemployment. Once Nazi power hit, it swore in more of the
party, leading them to get 230 out of the 608 seats, located in Reichstag. January 1933, Hitler was

Comparison of Toadstool Wood and Snowy Wood
The toadstool wood describes a woodland at twilight. Everything is quiet and dark. Reeves describes
the woods as if it is hoary and inactive, I know this because in the poem he says mouldy . He also says
arching sprays of bramble which means there would be alot of cultivation as well in the wood. On the
other the poem, stopping by Woods on a snowy evening has the setting of a man on horse back
stopping by the woods for a rest when he is on a long journey. Frost describes these woods as if it is
glacial and gloomy, I know this because in the poem he says The darkest evening of the year . This
would also means that it is frightening. There are many common things between these two poems.
Firstly both poems scenes are set in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator knows the owner of the woods and knows where he lives but then he says, he will not see
me stopping here . Why will the owner of the woods not see the narrator stopping by? Then the narrator
says my little horse must think it queer, to stop without a farmhouse near , so that means his horse
thinks it is very odd, to stop when there is no farmhouse near. So why did the narrator stop then? This
is another example of the mystery the poem evokes. The author describes the woods as if it is very
scary. I know this because he says the woods are lovely, dark and deep . I think he was being sarcastic
when he said lovely . Dark and deep would mean that the woods had a lack of light and that it was very
big and you could get lost in it. In this poem the narrator still has miles to travel in his journey because
on the last two lines he says and miles to go before I sleep . Where is the narrator s destination? This
poem has an AABA rhyme scheme. Frost has added alliteration dark and deep and he uses
onomatopoeia the only other sound s the sweep, of easy wind and downy flake. Overall this poem
created a more powerful sense of mystery than the toadstool wood, which means it has created more
suspense. I can see more mystery in this poem other than toadstool wood. I have given examples.
Both poems employ striking imagery to create a powerful sense of place. Reeves describes the
toadstool wood as an isolated quite place,

Teotihuacan Artistic Influence
Teotihuacan: Sphere of Artistic Influence
In the Basin of Mexico about 7,000 ft above sea level lies the ruins of the ancient city of Teotihuacan,
the place of the gods, which flourished from 100 650 A.D. Little is known about this city s mysterious
demise of power, besides evidence of what appears to be ritualized burnings at major temples and
centers. The impact of Teotihuacan throughout Mesoamerica is evident, and the most obvious indicator
of this influence is through artistic style. Just how far was the expansion of Teotihuacan s artistic
influence across Mesoamerica? I will use a variety of sources not only to define the Teotihuacano art
style as a whole, but also to map the path of its successful impact, (and also resistance,) across
subsequent Mesoamerican civilizations, focusing principally on the Maya. The architectural style
known as talud tablero marks the presence of Teotihuacan abroad more distinctly than any other
aspects of its art. The sloping talud (talus) supports the vertical tablero (entablature), which is ... Show

By 450 AD, versatile mold made ceramics were beginning to be mass produced, stamped and
distributed out of Teotihuacan workshops, believed to be located north of the Citadel. These host
figures have been found as far as Guatemala (900 miles away).
Brightly polychromed urns and incense burners sporting human and animal faces are among the larger
ceramics that survive from this era. The Teotihuacanos may have been able to take these anthromorphic
assemblages apart and reconfigure them into different deities from the constituent parts. (Miller, Mary
Ellen 2012) One large urn from Teotihuacan displays the image of an owl deity that served the city s
war cult. Owl depictions have been tied to war iconography all across Mesoamerica because of their

Chapter 7
We live too short and die too long. Walter M. Bortz II, MD
I lay in bed tossing and turning as I struggled to take a breath. My pink cotton nightgown with white
lace trim was soaked with urine and sweat. My bed, positioned against the wall enabled me to see out
the window onto the desert landscape of my backyard. Nothing of significance grew out there but low
lying prickly pear and scrub brushes. Tumbleweeds blew haphazardly around the rocky barren
landscape that stretched out over the acre of land. In the evening, I would watch the baby blue sky
blaze with reddish orange clouds that never brought rain. The heat would slowly recede and a cool
gentle breeze would playfully move the curtain around my window frame.

I do not think I had much of a reaction to what I saw. I turned away, feeling a quiet wave of joy and
adventure suddenly wash over me. I found myself moving through a passageway filled with light.
There I was surrounded by a peaceful, loving and welcoming group of glowing balls of light. No words
were exchanged but instead heart felt feelings that created thoughts and ideas.
I remember bits and pieces about the experience. I have the impression that I was shown many things
and given a great deal of information. I thought, How am I going to remember all of this? I was
immediately put at ease and told not to worry. When I needed the information it would be there for me
and I would think that it was my own thought. So now when I have knowledge of something I could
not possibly know or a great idea that comes to me seemingly out of nowhere, I smile and nod and
remember my experience. I am reminded that there is a great deal of support and unconditional love
that is always present; I am never alone or forgotten.
I knew that sometimes, oftentimes, life did not work out the way I hoped and dreamed that it would.
But I will never give up on my dreams it is the stuff that life is made of. I now understood that health is
first and foremost a state of mind. My body responded directly to my thoughts that were super charged
by my emotions. To live a fulfilling and meaningful life I needed to stop reacting and start responding

Light Rail System
The feasibility of a light rail system is possible when looking at the amount of room in the city of
Pittsburgh. This light rail system would be able to help transport college students, city workers, and
other Pittsburgh citizens. A light rail system would help to thin out the heavy traffic that vastly impacts
the environment with car emissions and still leave the city with some room to expand. A light rail
system in the city of Pittsburgh could be set up to run on a straight line system that would follow a
North to South and an East to West pattern. Quite like the room to build a light rail system, the
engineers and construction builders are plentiful in the Pittsburgh region for such a project. So, workers

that majorly impacts the project feasibility. Even with those impacts, the project is still possible

Ozone Depletion and Industrial Output
For years, we have heard about the ozone crisis: that because of industrialization and the lack of
pollution consciousness by our industries, governments, and academia, we have put so many
environmentally harmful products into the atmosphere that our ozone the good kind, the kind that
protects us from harmful UV radiation is becoming dangerously damaged. It is becoming thinner and

However, the interaction of CFCs with the relatively unstable O3 that makes up ozone caused a
depletion of this molecule in the atmosphere thus diminishing the total amount of protective ozone.
Once CFCs were realized to be destructive and responsible for a great deal of damage to the ozone,
measures were put in place to reduce the amount of CFCs in products. These reductive measures are
probably responsible for stemming a lot of ozone depletion. Pure chlorine is another particle that is
seriously accountable for ozone damage because of the reactions it makes with O3 (Kerr). Bromide and
halocarbons are other key damagers (Fahey/Ravishankara and Kerr). A crucial component in the
reduction of ozone damage is to decrease the emissions of these and other harmful materials, both in
product development and production, as well as in product functioning itself.
One of the measures instituted to reduce destructive emissions was the 1987 Montreal Protocol. This
international document provided guidelines for the reduction of ozone damaging chemicals on a
timeline that would be helpful for ozone repair. It seems as though the reductions that have already
taken place have had beneficial effects. The importance of continuing to follow the

Their lyrics influence children everyday and they should be regulated in some shape or form. Overall
Young people should not have to listen to violent lyrics and vulgar music being produced by musicians
and record producers. That modest warning label on the corner of the CD cover is not as effective as
one would think. If the musicians would cut those offensive lyrics out of the music, young people
would not have the idea of running into a school and shooting random people just to feel better about
themselves. They would not get the idea to kill themselves from their favorite band. They would not be
bombarded with ideas and mental pictures of raping women. Vulgar lyrics are all around in all types of
music genres, from country, to rap, to rock n roll, to alternative. Musicians should not have to write
music about drugs and alcohol, and sex, and violence to sell their albums. Violent lyrics are a major
problem in today s society. Solving this problem will be very difficult but according to American
Academy of Pediatrics there are a few ways to help control the problem:
Parents are strongly encouraged to take an active role in monitoring music that their children and
adolescents are exposed to and which they purchase.
Parents should join with educators and other parents in local and national coalitions to discuss the
effects of music lyrics on children and adolescents.

How Addiction Effects the Psychological and Physical...

Fundamentals Of

I. Introduction
This qualitative research will investigate how addiction effects the psychological and physical
functioning of daily life. Psychological functioning is the cognitive and behavioral characteristics of an
individual and how they work.
This research relates to counseling. The field of counseling looks at methods that will engage an
individual with personal issues and how they cope on daily basis. I have several reasons why this topic
is of interest to me. I am a Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor, currently employed as a supervisor at a

This lack of control is the result of alcohol or drug induced changes in the brain. Those changes, in
turn, cause behavior changes.
The brains of addicted people have been modified by the drug in such a way that absence of the drug
makes a signal to their brain that is equivalent to the signal of when you are starving , says National
Institute of Drug Abuse Director Dr. Nora Volkow. It is as if the individual was in a state of deprivation,
where taking the drug is indispensable for survival. It s as powerful as that.
Addiction grows more serious over time. Substance use disorders travel along a continuum. This
progression can be measured by the amount, frequency, and context of a person s substance use. As
their illness deepens, addicted people need more alcohol or other drugs; they may use more often, and
use in situations they never imagined when they first began to drink or take drugs. The illness becomes
harder to treat and the related health problems, such as organ disease, become worse.
This is not something that develops overnight for any individual, says addiction expert Dr. Kathleen
Brady. Generally there s a series of steps that individuals go through from experimentation and
occasional use [to] the actual loss of control of use. And it really is that process that defines addiction.

5 Senses Lab Report
The five senses of the human body are vision, audition, olfaction, gustation, and somatosensory. Vision
is the sense dealing with sight. Vision is most sensitive to light. The main part of our vision comes
through our eyes and is processed through our brain. Audition is the sense of hearing. Audition is
obtained through our ears picking up vibrations and processing the sounds we hear. Olfaction is the
sense of smelling. Olfaction occurs through our olfactory receptor neurons being stimulated by a

Analysis Of The Movie I Marry A Millionaire, Marilyn...
In How to Marry a Millionaire, Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall and Betty Grable play three young,
posh models who live together in a luxurious New York City apartment. The girls have but one
mission: marry a wealthy man no matter how old, boring, or ugly he may be. The film possesses a
certain comedic quality similar to that of the Three Stooges. Shatze Page, the central character played
by Lauren Bacall, appears to be the brains of the trio while the two other women are portrayed as dim
witted blondes who are simply following along with a scheme concocted by the seemingly ever stern
brunette. In fact, throughout the film the women are depicted as weak, simple, and generally inferior to
the men that they pursue. Their absolute goal in life is to impress men. They had no desire to advance
their careers or further their education, they simply wanted to marry a wealthy man and spend their
remaining days living in ignorant luxury. This could reflect the fact that many women were not
working at the time of production, most attended to the home and children full time. In 1953, only 25%
of women in the country were working. Pola Debevoise, the character played by Marilyn Monroe,
requires glasses to see. She describes herself as blind as a bat without them. Yet, she spends a large
amount of the film bumping into walls and speaking to inanimate objects because she refuses to wear
them around men. The harsh censorship of the 1950s is glaringly apparent when states, men aren t

Cause And Effect Of `` Liberal Studies And Education ``
Cause and Effect
In today s society, people learn and receive education mainly to be able to articulate themselves and to
earn a living. In some cases, people learn an enormous amount to show off their intelligence.
Ultimately, most of their intelligence is facts and pointless information that serves them no purpose.
Within their education, they learn right from wrong; therefore, it creates a basis for them to learn
virtues, but unable to acquire a vast amount of virtues. In Liberal Studies and Education by Seneca,
Seneca believes that one must leave space for virtue in order to gain virtue, instead of filling the space
with knowledge of no purpose. When one leaves space for virtue, one gains these virtues:
unselfishness, kindliness, and loyalty.
Virtue is a substance that should be filled in the void instead of useless knowledge. Seneca says that,
virtue will not surrender herself to these narrow bounds of ours; a great subject needs wide space in
which to move. Let all other things be driven out, and let the breast be emptied to receive virtue (28). In
this example, things represent pointless knowledge. This type of knowledge must not fill up more space
than virtue. One must leave room for virtue in order to gain virtue. Furthermore, Seneca says the
pursuit of the liberal arts makes men troublesome, wordy, tactless, self satisfied, bores, and causes
people to fail to learn the essentials just because they have learned the non essentials (28). Based on
this reading,

Edith Grotberg Theory Of Resilience
The American Psychological Association (APA) defines resilience as the ability to adapt well to
adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or even significant sources of stress (APA 2011). According to Edith
Grotberg, a developmental psychologist, Resilience is important because it is the human capacity to
face, overcome and be strengthened by or even transformed by the adversities of life (1995). Resilience
is the ability to remain positive in the face of adversity, which is not the same as not having distress or
denying it (Music, 2011). Developing this capacity relies on protective factors within individuals as
well as in the family and community. Research has emphasized the importance of early childhood as a

Women And Female Characters In Homer s Medea
Another of Greco Roman mythology s strongest and most prominent female characters is Medea.
Throughout her different iterations, Medea is shown to be closely associated with the female ability to
give and withhold life. First of all, she was a disciple of Hecate who, aside from being the goddess of
the moon, witchcraft, and crossroads (Brooks, Lesson 12: Perseus and Demeter), is described in Hesiod
s Theogony as a nurse of the young (455) and having the ability to increase[e] stock in a pen [...] if she
wills in her heart she can multiply them or make them diminish (446 449). Consistent with Hecate s
abilities, Medea s plot against Pelias, described in Ovid s Metamorphoses, revolves around her ability
to give life by return[ing] the vigor and bloom of youth (7.215). Additionally, in Euripides Medea, she
tells King Aigeus that she will put an end to [his] childlessness (716) and help him beget heirs of [his]
blood (717) in order to ensure that Athens will grant her asylum after executing her revenge on Jason
(679 758). Overall, Medea is shown to be a woman with great control over life. However, she does not
only grant it, she also exercises her ability to take it away. Medea kills her own children as a part of her
plan to take revenge on Jason, stating that if die they must, I shall slay them, who gave them birth
(Euripides 63). She also kills Creon s daughter, stating that never shall [Jason] beget children by his
new bride (Euripides, Medea 803 804), which results in a complete loss of all his current and potential
heirs. Ultimately, the play ends with Medea escaping without punishment for her actions, and this fact
seems to affirm a mother s rights over the life they have given. A similar situation can be found in Ovid
s Metamorphoses, where Procne kills her son and serves him to her husband, Tereus, for dinner as
retribution for the rape and mutilation of her sister (6.620 674). It is a particularly fitting punishment as
it violates Tereus body in a similar manner, by forcing him to contain something unwanted, and allows
Procne and Philomela to retake the control that was stolen from them. Not only do both mothers kill
their children the one thing they have an inherent right to control

Corruption Of The Clergy In The Canterbury Tales By...
Geoffrey Chaucer is often referred to as the father of English literature. Chaucer s work, The
Canterbury Tales, was the first major literary work done in the English. Chaucer expresses his feelings
on the corruption of the church clergy in the General Prologue through the characters such as the
Pardoner, the Prioress, and the Friar. These characters express many of the different misgivings of the
clergy in that period. The Pardoner is described to be quite the physically unattractive man, but that is
just the start. He is even uglier on the inside than he is on the outside. The Pardoner scams hard
working people out of their money by selling false relics. He advertises pig s bones as the remains of
saints, he uses a pillowcase as the veil of Mary and a sheet as the sail of Peter. The Pardoner tells the
pilgrims that he is only preaching to make money, not for the love of god. Chaucer s Pardoner character
is supposed to represent the greed and dishonesty within the clergy. The Pardoner is a man of greed like
much of the clergy in Chaucer s time. Chaucer feels like the clergy has money on their mind more than
they have God and the flock on their mind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Prioress attempts to present herself as something she is not, thus exposing her extreme vanity. Her

than with people she is supposed to help. She tries too hard to be delicate, She was so charitably
solicitous she used to weep if she but saw a mouse caught in a trap, if it were dead or bleeding.
(Chaucer 147 149). The Prioress cares more for her little dog than for the people she is supposed to be
preaching to. Chaucer uses the Prioress s character to represent the vanity present in most clergy, they

Plagiarism Is More Effective Than Just Punishing Students

Scott Jaschik discusses various situations of plagiarism in college in his article, Winning Hearts and

plagiarism. Jaschik published this article in Inside Higher Ed, which is an online news source, that he
cofounded, targeting first year English and college writing instructors. In the article, he explores
different ways of preventing plagiarism and emphasizes the importance of academic integrity. By
drawing on different instructor perspectives, he employs various situations such as an online student

why students plagiarize. Jaschik ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there still was some unintentional plagiarizing, the open minded conversation between
Hagopian and her students was more beneficial and effective for the students because it taught them
the, difference between deliberate fraud and failed apprenticeship (Jaschik 262). This example
strengthens
Jaschik s idea by specifically illustrating how first year writing instructors being more open minded
towards plagiarism can be more beneficial for the students. Jaschik also describes another example
with Roy Stamper, an associate writing director, who followed an online student discussion board
where students discussed how they felt about plagiarizing which led
Stamper to discover that there was also a strong, intense reaction from other students much of it critical
(263). Jaschik uses this to illustrate how his lurking online raised many questions and whether, an
intense workload puts an emphasis for students on efficiency as opposed to quality (263 4). This
example also strengthens Jaschik s argument in that it appeals to the first year writing instructors by
giving insight on various students opinions on plagiarizing. This is effective to the instructors because
it allows them to learn some reasons why students plagiarize, such as being overloaded and not having
enough time. Even Stamper himself asks, Should writing instructors be looking to

Theories And Evidence On Face Recognition
Do new borns have the ability to detect faces? Discuss with reference to theories and evidence on face
recognition in infancy .
In order to understand reality, a series of processes and interpretations are necessary to make sense of
the world to any individual. Not only interpretation but also the arrangement of information received
from our senses is a must to create inside representations of the external world.
This essay seeks to explore if new borns can detect faces, pointing out theory s strengths and
weaknesses, consequently discussing previous research in order to expose evidence of babies face s
recognition abilities. This said, according to Macknik and Martinez Conde (2014), Most of what we see
is a confabulation of our brain: it makes stuff up based on the sparse data it gets from our eyes .
In other words, individuals do not perceive reality but in what manner their brain understands it.
In the early 1900s, Gestalt psychologists (such as Wertheimer), tried to explain the ideologies behind
the understanding of sensations received in a sensory manner (Gross, 2015). Their main argument was
that every individual is born able to perceive the world in specific ways, with no or little learning; that
to make sense of reality, individuals had to perceive objects as being separated from other stimuli (seen
as a whole) and once a differentiation between the figure and the ground was made, it then became

Transformational Leadership Theory Motivates Individuals
Transformational Leadership Theory Motivates Individuals
The definition of transformational leadership is the style of leadership in which the leader identifies the
needed change, creates a vision to guide the change through inspiration, and executes the change with
the commitment of the members of the group(business dictionary.com). Northouse (as cited in Hall,
Johnson, Wysocki, Kepner, 2002) stated in simplistic terms, transformational leadership is a process
that changes, motivates, and transforms individuals. In essence this form of leadership transforms the

Inspirational motivation is the degree to which a leader articulates a vision that is appealing and
inspiring to followers (Riggio, 2009). The leadership of JLB enterprises could reexamine and revise its
mission statement and introduce a more positive set of future goals at a company wide meeting.
Additionally, JLB Enterprises could create and introduce a production based incentive program. Some
possible elements of this program might include wage bonuses and additional paid days off.
Individualized influence is the degree to which the leader acts as a role model for their followers
(Riggio, 2009). In an effort to raise performance expectations JLB Enterprise s executive management
could institute both a manager of the month and an employee of the month program. If the manager of
the month program included one on one mentorship time with a senior manager then it is more likely
that the junior manager would emulate their mentors values and behaviors. Likewise the junior
manager could mentor each of his employees so that values and behaviors might be more consistent
throughout the company.
Conclusion
In conclusion, by utilizing all four elements of the transformational leadership theory employee morale
and production would likely increase at JLB Enterprises. Using one or two elements of the theory will
not be as effective as applying all four elements. Furthermore, transformational

Illegal immigration has been around ever since borders were created to divide the world. The reasons
for illegal immigration, stretch from escaping unstable governments, seeking job opportunities, and

Comparing Romeo And Juliet And A Midsummer Night s Dream
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night s Dream are both based on the same tragedy
of Pyramus and Thisbe which explains why they are very much alike. Although Romeo and Juliet is a
tragedy and A Midsummer Night s Dream is a comedy, these two plays share many similarities such as
the theme of power and control. Shakespeare develops the theme of power and control likewise in both
Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night s Dream by displaying the character s oblivion to the
amount of power they obtain. In both Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night s Dream the parents

due to their similar topics of Artificial Intelligence.

researchers are concentrated on attaining. Strong Artificial Intelligence is a computer programmed to

On this view intelligence is just being able to imitate or mimic what a human being does. So, a
computer that can pass a turing test is intelligent. Chappie relates to Turing s position because Chappie
speaks and acts the same as a human, if it wasn t for his appearance it would be very difficult to
differentiate Chappie from a human. This film fully supports Turing because Chappie perfectly
represents Strong Artificial Intelligence. As soon as Chappie is created by his inventor, he establishes a
mother and father figure for himself. He grows up the same as a child does, starting from scratch and
learning by watching and listening to his surroundings. Then, Chappie soon gets his own ideas and
opinions the more time goes by. He acts and thinks independently, just the same as a human being,
therefore he is truly intelligent.
The Chinese Room Argument is Searle s refutation of Strong Artificial Intelligence. The idea will be
that we have an entity that will pass a Turing Test, but which clearly lacks intelligence, therefore it
represents Weak Artificial Intelligence. The Chinese Room argument Searle created has an English
speaker in a room with chinese writing and symbols and rules in English for translating a words into a
symbol. Just because the person can translate a symbol into a word does not make the room intelligent.

How To Test Which Type Of Sunscreen Worked Better Than Lotion
The purpose of this experiment was to test which type of sunscreen worked better, spray or lotion. The
experiment was conducted by cutting a UV paper into squares and labeling each one with each of the
six sunscreen. A small amount of each sunscreen was applied to a square and was taken outside for
three minutes to be exposed to the sun. The UV squares were taken back inside to be soaked in water
for one minute each. The squares were left to dry for twenty four hours. Three trials were conducted for
each sunscreen. After the twenty four hours of drying time and for the results to fully come in,
immediately it was noticed that the lotions made the UV paper much lighter than the sprays. For all
three trials, sunscreen number two, made the UV paper the whitest, meaning it protected the UV paper
from sun exposure more.
It was already hypothesized that the lotion sunscreens would protect the UV paper more as all three
sunscreen lotions contained zinc oxide while none of the sprays contained this ingredient. Zinc oxide is
very helpful for sensitive skin when it comes to sun block and provides a broad spectrum sun
protection that helps prevent sunburns. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

evenly throughout the UV square and was just left as a thick material in the middle of the square. A

small square. Another error that may have occurred was that the spray was applied directly to the UV
squares. This resulted in uneven and patchy coverage. This uneven coverage could have affected the
results as only parts of the paper had sunscreen applied to it. This may not have occurred if the spray
sunscreen was first sprayed into a small container and applied with a fingertip or a paintbrush to the

Pirates Island Research Papers
Meta: While it s a common theme in today s online slots environment, with Pirate s Island iSoftBet has
really attempted to do something new. Taking everything into consideration, will players find this new
game to be a bountiful affair?
Pirates Island Review
Pirates Island is one of the many slot machines developed and created by iSoftBet. It s pretty obvious
right from the get go what the theme of the game is, as the background features a pretty pile of shiny
treasure. It s not that subtle and the game looks like it could be set almost anywhere on the Caribbean
Sea during the Golden Age of Piracy. The game is clearly set in the age where the greatest pirates of all
time sailed the seven seas, took what they wanted, and lived the pirate life to its fullest. The game looks
pretty good visually, especially when compared to the other pirates inspired slot machines. However,
while it may look the real deal, the big question is, does it play better? Read on to find out!
Stepping foot on the island
iSoftBet has put together an online video slot with the simple them of piracy. The graphics fit this
theme pretty well, and all in all Pirates Island looks great. The game is set on a beautiful tropical ...

That alone makes it a fine addition to the already long list of iSoftBet online slot machines that are
currently taking the world by storm. Traditional slots players will enjoy the game because of the great
design, high payouts, and simplistic and straightforward gameplay. Other players may find themselves
a little disappointed by the lack of features found in other games. Some may even consider this an
advantage, as the game doesn t end up becoming too complicated and it s clearly not a bad game trying
to hide behind good features. Pirates Paradise is a simple game that makes use of a winning formula
and presents you with a fun slot machine you ll enjoy

Napoleon Bonaparte Major Accomplishments
Napoleon Bonaparte was a great French military leader in the 1800s. He was very famous for his
bravery. Some of the topics that I am going to talk about is how Napoleon s childhood was very
interesting, what were some of his amazing accomplishments and what were some of the wars that
created chaos. The main thing is that Napoleon left behind a huge legacy and changed Europe forever.
Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15, 1769. When Napoleon was small, he wanted to be a
British Naval Commander. For this reason, he went to naval school but changed his mind and wanted
to learn artillery. His parents sent him to a military boarding school called Brienne le Château. The first
four classes would teach general topics such as reading, writing, history, and the use of arms. The
second class would be divided into those boys who were destined for a civil career, and those destined
for a career in the military. The main thing about his family was that his family was just his mom, dad
and his nine other siblings. Napoleon was usually a very busy man. He very rarely had any ... Show

He fought in sixty wars. One of the first wars that Napoleon had won was the Siege of Tulon. This war
was against the British. Because of his victory, he was given the ranking of a Brigadier General.
Another one of his victories was the Vendémiaire when Paris was under attack of royalists. This
showed Napoleon s capability of military leadership. These victories relate to this one quote Never
interrupt your enemy when his or she is making a mistake. BrainyQuotes. He won most of his wars.
The wars Vendémiaire and Siege of Tulon were the first wars that Napoleon won. These wars were
called the Revolutionary Wars. His life in war influenced him to say this If you want a thing done well,

Analytical Essay Of The Book Of Jude
The self entitled book written around 75 AD as the half brother of Jesus himself, the book of Jude was
written to correct false witnesses and teachings. Because of this, the book is only chapter. Heresay was
a large problem at the time, given that correct information did not spread as easily as it does now. Jude
talked frequently about true salvation Christ, as people had begun to distort and proclaim that they
could get into heaven through just good deeds, but he addresses this in verses 24 25 saying Him who is
able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with
great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and

Benito Quinquela Martin La Cambino Analysis
Make the world vibrant and a glowing array of colour in as many communities as possible. Assemble
neighbourhoods of citizens and contribute to the prosperity and happiness of society. Rejoice in all that
one has to be grateful for and step forward to create the same opportunities for others. After living in
the La Boca neighbourhood for nearly sixty years of his life, artist, Benito Quinquela Martin strived to
rejuvenate the youthfulness of Caminito Street in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He set out on his journey to
repaint the contrasting architectural scenery in the 1950s that was constructed by immigrant dock
workers in the late 1880s. The vast colour sequences were so different from the rest of Argentina that it

Film And Literature American Pop Culture
Modern Jewish identity is explored and represented through various portrayals in film and literature
American pop culture. A complicated facet of this identity is associated around Jewish masculinity and
where the Jewish man fits in contemporary society. Brought forth in Otto Weininger s Sex and
Character we come to understand that the Jewish man is perceived to be effeminate and lacking the
character traits most commonly associated with the true masculine identity that is most popular for the
portrayal of men in the media of today. Films such as The Producers, A Serious Man and Annie Hall all
represent characters that adhere to the traits of the Jewish man Weininger describes. The filmmakers
intentions of showing this characterization stems from an acknowledgement of validity and what that
means to be a Jewish man in modern American culture.
In order to fully understand what traits to look for in the characters, we must recognize where their
characterizations are coming from. Otto Weininger s Sex and Character is based entirely upon the
notion bisexuality, the idea that a person incorporates attributes associated with both sexes to make up
their character. He believed that bisexuality is a universal phenomenon among all people. He suggests
that men and women aren t completely different sexes, but rather that men and women exhibit various
levels of qualities that are associated with man or woman . He postulates that there is a spectrum of
sexualities that range from

Fredrick Douglass Argumentative Essay
After the end of the Civil War, the 13th Amendment was passed out the slave. The 14th Amendment
provides citizens with equal protection for all under the law. The 15th Amendment protects all citizens
from race discrimination on the grounds of race in the election. On April 14, 1876, Douglass made an
important speech at the inauguration of the Slavery Liberation Monument in Lincoln Park in
Washington. Douglass made candid remarks about late president, both positive and negative. Calling
Lincoln and white president , Douglass criticized Lincoln for his hesitant attitude towards the struggle
for liberation of slaves, noting that despite Lincoln s opposition to the expansion of slavery, He initially
refused to support the abolition of slavery. And then Douglass poses the question, Are there people of

Douglas played a role as one of the most influential leaders of the abolitionist movement. He was born

Exxon Valdez Oil Spill
Considering the Legal Requirements
The Exxon Valdez oil spill that took place on March 24, 1989, was responsible for an enormous
amount of damage to the natural environment of Alaska. Animal life and plant life alike, were severely
harmed from this disastrous spill. Being such a high risk company, one would assume that the legal
requirements surrounding the company policy were prioritized. Due to the scope of the disaster though,
one may wonder just how strict the requirements were that governed the operations of Exxon. Even if
there were rules in place, how well were they being followed by Exxon employees? What were the
legal requirements that governed the operations of Exxon? Did the people responsible for this disaster
consider these? In the following discussion, these are examined from a moral analysis point of view.
After a broad investigation that lead to many lawsuits and fines, it was clear that multiple factors
contributed to the Exxon disaster. The Coast Guard and the National Transportation Society were two
of several agencies that provided rules and regulations for Exxon. These agencies found violations that
Exxon committed that lead to the disaster. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the time of the Exxon disaster, it was found that Captain Joseph Hazelwood s blood alcohol level

Tankers in the 1950s carried a crew of 40 to 42 to manage about 6.3 million gallons of oil, the Exxon

Man Carrying Thing By Wallace Stevens
September 11,2001 was one of the saddest days in American history. As everyone knows, September
11, 2001 was the day that shook the world. It didn t only affect the US but everyone around the world.
The people in those buildings were not only Americans but people of every nationality. I don t think
that one person knew exactly how to react or think. This tragedy is something that should have never
happened from the start. However, it did. Most of America can tell you that they remember exactly
what they were doing and where they were on September 11th. Unfortunately, for kids my age, we
were just too young to remember the devastating events that happened on this day. Even though it may
seem as though many people lost their lives in these tragic events, we have to remember that hundreds
and thousands were saved. However, weeks after thousands were estimated dead. What is the worst
about this event is that a lot the workers or visitors who died had been at or above the point ... Show

This ties into the Jumpers sculpture because she used paper to represent the people. We all know that
paper did not really fall from the Twin Towers, it was people. So for that reason we should not let the
fact that she has paper take away from the real picture. In the poem Man carrying thing we can see that
Wallace Stevens is basically saying take your focus from the secondary to the primary. With the Twin
Towers, nobody wanted to accept that it happened and people jumped to their death but we had to
realize and accept it. In conclusion, we can see that Melinda Hoffman used many objects and
symbolism to represent a terrible tragedy that happened. If you take the time and observe, modernism
is all over this sculpture. From the everyday objects used to represent the Twin Towers, to the paper
being used to represent people. We must focus of the primary objective and not the

Assess The Causes Of Chartism
Chartism was a working class movement for political reform in Britain that existed from 1838 to 1857.
It was given its name from the People s Charter of and was a national revolt for political and social
movement. The strategy employed was to use support through petitions and demonstrations in order to
put pressure on politicians to acknowledge suffering. Chartism thus relied on constitutional approaches
to achieve its goals. By 1839 the Chartists had obtained nearly one and a half million signatures in
support of reform and presented the Charter to the lower house of parliament also known as the House
of The Commons. The charter was, however rejected by the government. A second petition of around
three million signatures was rejected in 1842, and the rejection of the third petition in 1848 saw the end
of the Chartist movement. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These can be split up into two main sections, political causes and economic causes. Firstly, one of the
main, and probably key causes of the rise of Chartism is the fact that the working classes were
disappointed with the 1832 Reform Act. This dissatisfaction with the Act came into being because the
Act did not enfranchise them, and they gained little from it. Also, they were unhappy with the
government s rejection to reform further, which therefore offered no prospect of the future achievement
of gaining the vote for the working classes. In addition, many of the working classes had campaigned
for the 1832 Reform Act and felt betrayed by the middle classes, since many of them had actually lost
the right to vote.
In general, the working classes were miserable, living in increasing poverty and convinced that those
above them were putting them in the worst conditions possible just to save money. The sizes of
boroughs still varied too much, and there was no secret ballot, so corruption and intimidation were still
a problem. Many therefore turned to Chartism as a way to continue the

Imperialism Essay
Imperialism played a major role in global development, especially in the late nineteenth and early
twentieth centuries. In order to better understand this system, it is important to first look at the history
behind it as well as a model of its implementation. Some Europeans advocated heavily for imperialism,
citing several reasons for doing so. However, other Europeans and other individuals saw the dangers
and issues that accompanied it and spoke against European imperialism.
Imperialism was a trend that gained popularity in the latter half of the nineteenth century. It is defined
as the process of nation building in which new territories, often overseas, were acquired (textbook,
608). This was done in order to increase the influence of a country through greater economic power.
Germany, France, Russia, the United States, and Japan all tried to increase their influence and compete
with Brittan on a national stage by developing their trade industries as well as seizing new territories
(textbook, 608). This resulted in the movement of several influential entities including capital,
commodities, and information. The dissemination of information in the new territory from the mother
country was common. This was done in order to help the people living in the area gain a better
understanding of the colonizers. However, these colonies were not considered equal to the mother
country and had either reduced ability to govern themselves or none at all (textbook 608 609). A good

  • 2. Education And Awareness Of Advanced Directives Despite advanced public education and awareness of advanced directives there have been times when if care is placed in the hands of physicians without a durable power of attorney, those wishes could be terminated (CPOS, 2013). While most of the public would agree that not following specific end of life choices is an unethical act, some hospital staff feels as though life saving measures may not be appropriate in all situations, despite a written and signed document. The case that is analyzed in this paper involves a man with end stage renal failure who clearly voiced and wrote his wishes on paper in the presence of his primary physician and nephrologist. Marks wishes were documented on paper and signed by himself, his primary physician and nephrologist. Although he had schizoaffective disorder, this was medically treated and he was very capable of making decisions. Months later Mark s health status began to deteriorate and he was sent to the hospital after a dialysis treatment due to low blood pressure. In the hospital, his mental status declined and a palliative care physician was consulted. The doctor noted that Mr. Turner did not have the mental capacity to make decisions and his hospital doctor, Dr. Roper, claimed that the patient told him to withhold all life sustaining medical treatment, even though this was not documented. Over a period of time and deliberation among the medical staff, the decision was made to withdraw dialysis and send Mark back to a nursing home on hospice, overriding his wishes of CPR and intubation if necessary (CPOS, 2013). End of life decisions are often not thought about until a serious illness or life event occurs. Specific treatment during the dying process may encompass simple to extremely complex decisions involving physical, legal, medical, spiritual, or psychosocial needs. Research shows that more than 75% of Americans have thought about their end of life wishes, but had not put those decisions in writing or designated someone on an advanced directive who would make decisions on ... Their paws leaning against the glass, they re begging us to take them home and out of an impulse, some people occasionally do. Taking a puppy home and introducing it to its new environment is usually associated with great joy. Their clumsy behavior, wagging tails, and curious noses make everyone smile, and you don t have to be a dog lover to fall for these big puppy eyes. What a lot of people don t know when they purchase a puppy at a pet store, however, is that the little dog might have spent its first few weeks in a large breeding facility where dogs are bred for sole profit, commonly known as a puppy mill. Although the USDA, the United States Department of Agriculture, has laws in place to keep these animals safe, the housing and husbandry standards are often barely minimal, leading to suffering puppies and breeding females with terrible health concerns, as well as psychological traumas. The woman was 23 and would usually be called beautiful but today her hair was unkempt and her face was covered in the same smudged makeup from the day before. Her room was trashed, and the woman was curled on her bed hugging a banner that read happy birthday. The rest of the house seemed untouched. In the living room a pile of gifts lay wrapped on the table and a painstakingly crafted cake stood on the counter the inscription in bright blue happy lettering read Happy Birthday Chrissie. The note was written by a man named Aaron, the man who baked the cake. Upstairs Chrissie cried, alone, in the same position she had lay for hours, to her it seemed like that was her whole life. On the other the poem, stopping by Woods on a snowy evening has the setting of a man on horse back stopping by the woods for a rest when he is on a long journey. Then the narrator says my little horse must think it queer, to stop without a farmhouse near , so that means his horse thinks it is very odd, to stop when there is no farmhouse near. So why did the narrator stop then? This is another example of the mystery the poem evokes. The author describes the woods as if it is very scary. I know this because he says the woods are lovely, dark and deep . I think he was being sarcastic when he said lovely . Dark and deep would mean that the woods had a lack of light and that it was very big and you could get lost in it. In this poem the narrator still has miles to travel in his journey because on the last two lines he says and miles to go before I sleep . Where is the narrator s destination? This poem has an AABA rhyme scheme. Frost has added alliteration dark and deep and he uses onomatopoeia the only other sound s the sweep, of easy wind and downy flake. Overall this poem created a more powerful sense of mystery than the toadstool wood, which means it has created more suspense. I can see more mystery in this poem other than toadstool wood. I have given examples. Both poems employ striking imagery to create a powerful sense of place. Reeves describes the toadstool wood as an isolated quite place, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Just how far was the expansion of Teotihuacan s artistic influence across Mesoamerica? However, the interaction of CFCs with the relatively unstable O3 that makes up ozone caused a depletion of this molecule in the atmosphere thus diminishing the total amount of protective ozone. Once CFCs were realized to be destructive and responsible for a great deal of damage to the ozone, measures were put in place to reduce the amount of CFCs in products. These reductive measures are probably responsible for stemming a lot of ozone depletion. Pure chlorine is another particle that is seriously accountable for ozone damage because of the reactions it makes with O3 (Kerr). Bromide and halocarbons are other key damagers (Fahey/Ravishankara and Kerr). A crucial component in the reduction of ozone damage is to decrease the emissions of these and other harmful materials, both in product development and production, as well as in product functioning itself. One of the measures instituted to reduce destructive emissions was the 1987 Montreal Protocol. The brains of addicted people have been modified by the drug in such a way that absence of the drug makes a signal to their brain that is equivalent to the signal of when you are starving , says National Institute of Drug Abuse Director Dr. Nora Volkow. It is as if the individual was in a state of deprivation, where taking the drug is indispensable for survival. It s as powerful as that. Addiction grows more serious over time. Substance use disorders travel along a continuum. This progression can be measured by the amount, frequency, and context of a person s substance use. As their illness deepens, addicted people need more alcohol or other drugs; they may use more often, and use in situations they never imagined when they first began to drink or take drugs. The illness becomes harder to treat and the related health problems, such as organ disease, become worse. This is not something that develops overnight for any individual, says addiction expert Dr. Kathleen Brady. The main part of our vision comes through our eyes and is processed through our brain. Audition is the sense of hearing. • 25. Analysis Of The Movie I Marry A Millionaire, Marilyn... In How to Marry a Millionaire, Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall and Betty Grable play three young, posh models who live together in a luxurious New York City apartment. The girls have but one mission: marry a wealthy man no matter how old, boring, or ugly he may be. The film possesses a certain comedic quality similar to that of the Three Stooges. Shatze Page, the central character played by Lauren Bacall, appears to be the brains of the trio while the two other women are portrayed as dim witted blondes who are simply following along with a scheme concocted by the seemingly ever stern brunette. In fact, throughout the film the women are depicted as weak, simple, and generally inferior to the men that they pursue. Their absolute goal in life is to impress men. They had no desire to advance their careers or further their education, they simply wanted to marry a wealthy man and spend their remaining days living in ignorant luxury. This could reflect the fact that many women were not working at the time of production, most attended to the home and children full time. In 1953, only 25% of women in the country were working. Pola Debevoise, the character played by Marilyn Monroe, requires glasses to see. She describes herself as blind as a bat without them. • 26. Cause And Effect Of `` Liberal Studies And Education `` Cause and Effect In today s society, people learn and receive education mainly to be able to articulate themselves and to earn a living. In some cases, people learn an enormous amount to show off their intelligence. Ultimately, most of their intelligence is facts and pointless information that serves them no purpose. Within their education, they learn right from wrong; therefore, it creates a basis for them to learn virtues, but unable to acquire a vast amount of virtues. In Liberal Studies and Education by Seneca, Seneca believes that one must leave space for virtue in order to gain virtue, instead of filling the space with knowledge of no purpose. When one leaves space for virtue, one gains these virtues: unselfishness, kindliness, and loyalty. Virtue is a substance that should be filled in the void instead of useless knowledge. Seneca says that, virtue will not surrender herself to these narrow bounds of ours; a great subject needs wide space in which to move. Let all other things be driven out, and let the breast be emptied to receive virtue (28). In this example, things represent pointless knowledge. This type of knowledge must not fill up more space than virtue. One must leave room for virtue in order to gain virtue. Furthermore, Seneca says the pursuit of the liberal arts makes men troublesome, wordy, tactless, self satisfied, bores, and causes people to fail to learn the essentials just because they have learned the non essentials (28). Resilience is the ability to remain positive in the face of adversity, which is not the same as not having distress or denying it (Music, 2011). • 28. Women And Female Characters In Homer s Medea Another of Greco Roman mythology s strongest and most prominent female characters is Medea. Throughout her different iterations, Medea is shown to be closely associated with the female ability to give and withhold life. First of all, she was a disciple of Hecate who, aside from being the goddess of the moon, witchcraft, and crossroads (Brooks, Lesson 12: Perseus and Demeter), is described in Hesiod s Theogony as a nurse of the young (455) and having the ability to increase[e] stock in a pen [...] if she wills in her heart she can multiply them or make them diminish (446 449). Consistent with Hecate s abilities, Medea s plot against Pelias, described in Ovid s Metamorphoses, revolves around her ability to give life by return[ing] the vigor and bloom of youth (7.215). Additionally, in Euripides Medea, she tells King Aigeus that she will put an end to [his] childlessness (716) and help him beget heirs of [his] blood (717) in order to ensure that Athens will grant her asylum after executing her revenge on Jason (679 758). Overall, Medea is shown to be a woman with great control over life. However, she does not only grant it, she also exercises her ability to take it away. Medea kills her own children as a part of her plan to take revenge on Jason, stating that if die they must, I shall slay them, who gave them birth (Euripides 63). She also kills Creon s daughter, stating that never shall [Jason] beget children by his new bride (Euripides, Medea 803 804), which results in a complete loss of all his current and potential heirs. Ultimately, the play ends with Medea escaping without punishment for her actions, and this fact seems to affirm a mother s rights over the life they have given. A similar situation can be found in Ovid s Metamorphoses, where Procne kills her son and serves him to her husband, Tereus, for dinner as retribution for the rape and mutilation of her sister (6.620 674). It is a particularly fitting punishment as it violates Tereus body in a similar manner, by forcing him to contain something unwanted, and allows Procne and Philomela to retake the control that was stolen from them. • 29. Corruption Of The Clergy In The Canterbury Tales By... Geoffrey Chaucer is often referred to as the father of English literature. Chaucer s work, The Canterbury Tales, was the first major literary work done in the English. Chaucer expresses his feelings on the corruption of the church clergy in the General Prologue through the characters such as the Pardoner, the Prioress, and the Friar. These characters express many of the different misgivings of the clergy in that period. The Pardoner is described to be quite the physically unattractive man, but that is just the start. He is even uglier on the inside than he is on the outside. The Pardoner scams hard working people out of their money by selling false relics. He advertises pig s bones as the remains of saints, he uses a pillowcase as the veil of Mary and a sheet as the sail of Peter. The Pardoner tells the pilgrims that he is only preaching to make money, not for the love of god. Chaucer s Pardoner character is supposed to represent the greed and dishonesty within the clergy. Although there still was some unintentional plagiarizing, the open minded conversation between Hagopian and her students was more beneficial and effective for the students because it taught them the, difference between deliberate fraud and failed apprenticeship (Jaschik 262). Jaschik also describes another example with Roy Stamper, an associate writing director, who followed an online student discussion board where students discussed how they felt about plagiarizing which led Stamper to discover that there was also a strong, intense reaction from other students much of it critical (263). Jaschik uses this to illustrate how his lurking online raised many questions and whether, an intense workload puts an emphasis for students on efficiency as opposed to quality (263 4). This example also strengthens Jaschik s argument in that it appeals to the first year writing instructors by giving insight on various students opinions on plagiarizing. In order to understand reality, a series of processes and interpretations are necessary to make sense of the world to any individual. In the early 1900s, Gestalt psychologists (such as Wertheimer), tried to explain the ideologies behind the understanding of sensations received in a sensory manner (Gross, 2015). Their main argument was that every individual is born able to perceive the world in specific ways, with no or little learning; that to make sense of reality, individuals had to perceive objects as being separated from other stimuli (seen as a whole) and once a differentiation between the figure and the ground was made, it then became possible to organise the ... Additionally, JLB Enterprises could create and introduce a production based incentive program. Some possible elements of this program might include wage bonuses and additional paid days off. Individualized influence is the degree to which the leader acts as a role model for their followers (Riggio, 2009). In an effort to raise performance expectations JLB Enterprise s executive management could institute both a manager of the month and an employee of the month program. If the manager of the month program included one on one mentorship time with a senior manager then it is more likely that the junior manager would emulate their mentors values and behaviors. Likewise the junior manager could mentor each of his employees so that values and behaviors might be more consistent throughout the company. The experiment was conducted by cutting a UV paper into squares and labeling each one with each of the six sunscreen. A small amount of each sunscreen was applied to a square and was taken outside for three minutes to be exposed to the sun. The UV squares were taken back inside to be soaked in water for one minute each. The squares were left to dry for twenty four hours. Three trials were conducted for each sunscreen. • 50. Man Carrying Thing By Wallace Stevens September 11,2001 was one of the saddest days in American history. As everyone knows, September 11, 2001 was the day that shook the world. It didn t only affect the US but everyone around the world. The people in those buildings were not only Americans but people of every nationality. I don t think that one person knew exactly how to react or think. This tragedy is something that should have never happened from the start. However, it did. Most of America can tell you that they remember exactly what they were doing and where they were on September 11th. Unfortunately, for kids my age, we were just too young to remember the devastating events that happened on this day. Even though it may seem as though many people lost their lives in these tragic events, we have to remember that hundreds and thousands were saved. However, weeks after thousands were estimated dead. With the Twin Towers, nobody wanted to accept that it happened and people jumped to their death but we had to realize and accept it. In conclusion, we can see that Melinda Hoffman used many objects and symbolism to represent a terrible tragedy that happened. If you take the time and observe, modernism is all over this sculpture. • 51. Assess The Causes Of Chartism Chartism was a working class movement for political reform in Britain that existed from 1838 to 1857. It was given its name from the People s Charter of and was a national revolt for political and social movement. The strategy employed was to use support through petitions and demonstrations in order to put pressure on politicians to acknowledge suffering. Chartism thus relied on constitutional approaches to achieve its goals. By 1839 the Chartists had obtained nearly one and a half million signatures in support of reform and presented the Charter to the lower house of parliament also known as the House of The Commons. The charter was, however rejected by the government. A second petition of around three million signatures was rejected in 1842, and the rejection of the third petition in 1848 saw the end of the Chartist movement. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These can be split up into two main sections, political causes and economic causes. Firstly, one of the main, and probably key causes of the rise of Chartism is the fact that the working classes were disappointed with the 1832 Reform Act. This dissatisfaction with the Act came into being because the Act did not enfranchise them, and they gained little from it. Also, they were unhappy with the government s rejection to reform further, which therefore offered no prospect of the future achievement of gaining the vote for the working classes. In addition, many of the working classes had campaigned for the 1832 Reform Act and felt betrayed by the middle classes, since many of them had actually lost the right to vote. In general, the working classes were miserable, living in increasing poverty and convinced that those above them were putting them in the worst conditions possible just to save money. The sizes of boroughs still varied too much, and there was no secret ballot, so corruption and intimidation were still a problem. Many therefore turned to Chartism as a way to continue the ... • 52. Imperialism Essay Imperialism played a major role in global development, especially in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In order to better understand this system, it is important to first look at the history behind it as well as a model of its implementation. Some Europeans advocated heavily for imperialism, citing several reasons for doing so. However, other Europeans and other individuals saw the dangers and issues that accompanied it and spoke against European imperialism. Imperialism was a trend that gained popularity in the latter half of the nineteenth century. It is defined as the process of nation building in which new territories, often overseas, were acquired (textbook, 608). This was done in order to increase the influence of a country through greater economic power. Germany, France, Russia, the United States, and Japan all tried to increase their influence and compete with Brittan on a national stage by developing their trade industries as well as seizing new territories (textbook, 608). This resulted in the movement of several influential entities including capital, commodities, and information. The dissemination of information in the new territory from the mother country was common. This was done in order to help the people living in the area gain a better understanding of the colonizers. However, these colonies were not considered equal to the mother country and had either reduced ability to govern themselves or none at all (textbook 608 609). A good ...
