The Tiananmen Square Massacre
b. Tiananmen Square Massacre (June 4, 1989) Commonly known as the June Forth Incident
(е…四事件) or the 89 Democracy Movement (е…«д№ќж°‘иїђ), the Tiananmen Square protests
lead by students, was a bad memory for the protesters in China back in 1989. Student protesters in
Tiananmen Square, Beijing were brutally restrained by the Chinese military eight years before the
handover of Hong Kong to China. Chinese troops violently retook the square in Beijing where pro
democracy protesters had set up camp for weeks. The Tiananmen Square massacre left an unknown
number dead, with some estimates in the thousands, and smothered a democratic movement.

But as its citizenry awoke on July 1, 1997, there was no outward appearance of change apart from
the unnerving lines of People s Liberation Army (PLA) troop vehicles moving through the streets to
take over security responsibilities for the former British outpost. They have remained in barracks.
(Connors, 2015)
d. Anti subversion Act Mothballed (July 1, 2003) Six years after the handover, half a million
marchers questioned if the mantra, one country two systems was going to last 50 years. The
cause of the fear was anti subversion law Article 23 and its possible enactment in the Basic Law,
prohibiting any act of treason, secession, sedition, or subversion against the Central People s
Government, or theft of state secrets . It called for the banning of groups outlawed in mainland
China on national security grounds and gave police wide search and seizure powers without a
court order. By early September, the much maligned secretary for security, Regina Ip, was dumped,
and chief executive Tung Chee hwa was forced to postpone the introduction of the bill indefinitely.

Family Is The Fundamental Unit Of Society And Today It Is...
According to Dr. Alina Costin, family is the fundamental unit of society and today it is used with a
wide variety of meanings (2014). In 2007, single parent families make up thirty two percent of the
population (Benokraitis, 2012). As more adult remain single into their thirties and divorce rates are
higher, the number of children living in single parent families has increased (Benokraitis, 2012).
The number of never married people has gone up form four percent in 1960 to forty three percent in
2010 (Benokraitis, 2012). Women also run an over whelming eighty seven percent of single parent
households in the United States (Benokraitis, 2012). While these statistics seem daunting, it is
important to remember how children and the parent are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Single father families make up a small proportion of all single parent families (Coles, 2015).
Children living in these families often exhibit more behavior and academic problems than children
who live with single mother families (Pong, Dronkers, and Hampden Thomas,2015). Despite these
findings, the number of single father households has increased about nine fold since 1960, from
less than 300,000 to more than 2.6 million in 2011(Coles, 2015). Women will more likely attend to
primary and daily parenting tasks, such as feeding, dressing, and emotional nurturance of children,
whereas men will attend to play activities and financial provision (Coles, 2015). Another study also
found that single mothers and fathers displayed similar rates of participation, with single mothers
less involved than married mothers and single fathers more involved than married fathers (Nord et
al., 1997). According to Coles, living in a single mother family increases the risk for delinquency
(2015). This is likely due not to the mothers lack of parenting ability but rather the need to support
their family financially (Rodgers and Rose, 2001) The most popular explanation centers on a
resource deprivation argument single mothers have fewer resources (e.g., income, time, energy),
thus leading to diminished social control and socialization (Coles, 2015). Single fathers tend to be
better off in terms of income and social support than single mothers (Coles, 2015). They

Internal Revenue Service Pros And Cons
The Internal Revenue Service, more commonly known as the IRS and most commonly known as
the least favored federal agency, was first established during the years of the Civil War to collect
taxes levied to support the war effort in the North. During this time, the revenue bureau was meant
to be temporary and the taxexpired in 1872. However, the Commissioner of Internal Revenue and its
successor continued past the expiration date and stayed in effect up to present day in America. The
national income taxin place today was not always a part of the American taxing system, with the
exception of 1894. Congress passed a national income tax, but it was ruled unconstitutional in 1895

The audit has been dragged out for over nearly a decade regarding Microsoft s overseas
subsidiaries, and an investigation was being conducted in regards to whether the Redmond
company improperly moved software code worth billions of dollars offshore in a way that
illegally evaded its U.S. tax bill. Under current law, corporate profits earned overseas and left
overseas are not subject to taxation in America. The IRS spent years requesting documents and
interviews with Microsoft employees regarding the investigation. In December of 2014, the IRS
sued Microsoft in order to force them to turnover documents and information that the IRS
claimed the company failed to provide in the investigation. Microsoft s position in regards to the
IRS is that they abused their federal power when they hired an outside law firm to aide them in
auditing Microsoft. In 2014, the IRS decided to hire an outside law firm to discuss the case
against Microsoft. The problem was that the law firm, Quinn Emanuel, had little experience
handling taxpayer data, and in order for the firm to perform the audit, it needed the classified,
secret tax documents that was provided by the IRS. However, according to current U.S. law, only
employees of the IRS are authorized to view those files. In light of this, Microsoft asked that the
information requested by the IRS should be thrown out

I followed her directions and she gave me the chart. I asked the nurse what I had to do once I get
the patient, and she told me that I would need to ask the patient for their date of birth to confirm
their identity. In addition, to ask them if they have anything on them that will need to be put
into their locker that they have been assigned. I did as I was told and once I had brought them to
the fourth floor and preparing them to lay on the bed, an anesthesiologist came in and called the
patient who I was laying down. She had to wait about 2 minutes until the patient was laid down
and they had their conversation. If I had just asked one of the nurses earlier on the fifth floor for
help I would not have made the anesthesiologist wait and delay the patient s surgery. Another
time was on February 28, 2017 when I was assigned to the 3rd floor nurse s administration office.
When I was in the office, I saw that there was another volunteer working on a few documents. We
introduced ourselves and her name was Sharon De Narrio. She was working on a few documents
given to her by Barbara, the nurses coordinator.

Absurdity In Eugene Ionesco
Eugene Ionesco is also a very famous writer of absurd theater. He focused on isolation and
exhaustion of man s life and also gave his ironical views on spiritless situation of man in his life.
His work expressed alienation of modern man and failure of communication and also loss of
meaning. His plays like bold Soprano, The lesson, Rhinoceros they also depict man s lack of
communication with himself and with others in the society. Bold Soprano, the chairs are fully in
non sequiturs, dialogues and the language of characters are without thinking. His plays also show
the tragedyof modern man in this world and his loss of meaningful words is very much there and

For Samuel Beckett absurdity is abstract dilemma it deals with unreal ad philosophical ideas. To
Eugene Ionesco absurdity is related with concrete things but both of these writes are adhered to the
same idea and this is reflected in their plays, that absurdity is always the result of linguistic
deficiency in modern man life, failures in communication, impossibility of expressing the ideas
through language. They unveil the tragic situation of human being and elaborate personal
disruption of modern man from his self, his disgruntlement plight, insufficiency and meagerness of
language.
There is not enough work and that s why linguistic deficiency becomes a unique topic for
research. Language is researched in some ways, like long sentences, speeches yet but the way
linguistic deficiency leads to torments and fragmentation of individuals and further leads to
modern man tragedy is a very unique topic for research. Beckett s Eng Game is also explored by
many researchers in different ways, in terms of characterization, in terms of thematic concerns,
time, absurdity, there is also work on absurd language but that is not enough especially when it
comes to linguistic deficiency and its dire consequence in a absurd drama and in modern man s
life is unique one and its need to be explored

Bad Thermocouple
It can be really unpleasant to get into the shower and realize that your water heater is no longer
producing hot water. Hot water is essential to a pleasant shower and is essential for keeping
things clean and sanitary in your home. A bad thermocouple is one of the more common
reasons for a gas water heater to stop producing hot water. Check For A Pilot Light The first
thing you need to do is check and see if the pilot light on your gas water heater is lit. The pilot
light is located near the bottom of your water heater. You should literally see a flame if the pilot
light on your gas water heater is working properly. If the pilot light is not lit, and you can t relight
it following the steps on your water heater, you are not going to get any hot water. A bad

It is a sensor that provides information to the gas valve on your gas water heater. It tells the gas
valve when and if it should release gas. It also tells it how much gas to release. The
thermocouple is attached directly to the gas valve on one end, and the other end is set up to
literally feel the heat from the pilot light. This allows the thermocouple to determine who much
heat is being produced and how much gas needs to be let out. Replacing The Thermocouple It is
easy to replace a thermocouple. First, you are going to want to turn off the gas to your water
heater. You should never work on your gas water heater when gas is running to it. Take off the
cover that goes over the burner compartment. Then take apart the gas tubes that are attached to
the burner assembly. All you need to do now is replace the thermocouple on the burner unit, but
it back in place, turn the gas back on and see if you can get the pilot light to work again. The
thermocouple basically just needs to be pulled off and the new one inserted in its place. If this
doesn t fix your hot water issues, you may want to bring in a water repair expert to help you fix
your gas water

common ground with. Life is not always going to go the way you want it to, but with the help of
friends and family, it will surely turn around. Accidental pregnancies, unexpected relationships,
random murders and heartbreaks were all parts of the four girls struggles and they were there for

The author s point throughout the book was that though life can be crazy good or bad, one can

like when Claire becomes successful because of her support and love from her mom and friends.
It is something that can be taken away as a life lesson to surround yourself with good family and

Alice Walker Heritage
Roy E. Disney once said, When values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier. In
Everyday Use, by Alice Walker, this statement holds true. Through the eyes of the hard working,
single parent living in the south, Mama faces daily decisions that are often difficult. At the climax,
Mama must decide whether to give the quilt to the daughter who seems to have everything, or to
the daughter that is less fortunate. As any mother is influenced by their daughters, Mama takes
sympathy for the youngest, while judging her oldest for her actions, behavior, and ideas that are
very different from her own. The oldest daughter, Dee, sees the quilts as part of her heritage that
should be preserved while Maggie, the younger daughter, sees them... Show more content on

She strongly believes in her family heritage and does not let anything get in the way of that. She
is sympathetic at times, however also pessimistic. Mama always looks for the rough side of
things. She views Maggie as the slower child that doesn t really have much, when really she has
every opportunity to become great. Her view of Dee is a little harsher than that of Maggie. She
sees Dee as a girl in her own world who doesn t care about anything but herself. Mama describes
Dee s hair in major detail It stands straight up like the wool on a sheep. It is black as night and
around the edges are two long pigtails that rope about like small lizards disappearing behind her
ears. This shows Mama s disproval in how Dee has changed, she is in awe of what she sees. As
far as Mama s sympathy goes for both of her daughters, she does not understand the difference
between generations of time from herself to her oldest daughter, Dee. This conflict creates an
emotion that Mama doesn t know if she can ever come by. Dee shows Mama that she has grown
up and realized that family and heritage is what means the most to her. Mama doesn t
comprehend the difference of the values between her two daughters, based on the life they grew
up in. However, she has a way of showing both compassion and un forgiveness, just maybe not at
the best of times. This being said, Mama is an unsympathetic character that is based off of the
way she grew up. Mama tells the reader, I knocked a bull calf straight in the brain between the
eyes with a sledge hammer and had the meat hung up to chill before nightfall. This shows just how

Human Rights Abuses Of Fiji Essay
Human Rights Abuses in Fiji
From the time when commander Commodore Josaia Voreqe (Frank) Bainimarama abrogated Fiji s
constitution and took over the elected government, there have been increasing reports of human
rights violations within the country as well as defilements of the rule of law (Amnesty
International, 2014). The main sources of these rights violations have been from overseas tourists,
international and local journalists and also non profit organisations that have been committed into
bringing about justice for the people whose rights have been constantly oppressed by Bainimarama
s regime (Amnesty International, 2014). These sources have witnessed the situation and have
considered it as a total violation of international human rights which demands immediate action
from not only neighbouring countries but also the international community. Correspondingly,
Amnesty International continued to document cases whereby human rights are being continually
ill treated by the military (Amnesty International, 2009). For example, earlier this year Amnesty
International in one of their reports documented human rights activists peacefully protesting have
been arrested and incarcerated with no fair trials (Amnesty International, 2009). Furthermore,
peaceful demonstrations and marches have been forced to cancel or subjectively refused as well as
having the police break up secluded meetings of individuals who have gotten together to seek
solutions to the government s unjust actions

Using Correlation Method For Match Two Digital Images
MATCHING:
We have used correlation method to match two digital images. This technique is also known as
template matching. It compares portions of one image against another on a pixel by pixel basis.
Correlation is a measure of degree to which two variables agree, not necessarily in actual value but
in general behavior .The two variables are the corresponding pixel values in two images , template
and source.
The matching process moves the template image to all possible positions in a larger source image
and computes a numerical index that indicates how well the template matches the image in that
position.
Template is nothing but a small region of image. Correlation method is simple and hence can be
analyzed appreciatively. There are two key features which make it simple and they are: shift
invariant and linear.Shift invariant means that we perform the same operation at every point in the
image. Linear means replacing every pixel with a linear combination of its neighbours.
The goal of this method is to find the correlated pixel within a certain disparity range that minimizes
the associated error and maximizes the similarity.

The United States Vs. The Treaty Of Versailles
The United States vs. the Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles was a peace settlement between Germany and the Allied Powers signed
on June 28, 1919. The Treaty of Versailles officially ended World War 1. However, since the
conditions in the treaty were so punitive towards Germany many believe that it was also partly
responsible for starting World War 2. Before the treaty was signed President Woodrow Wilsonand
his opponent in congress, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge debated over the membership in the League
of Nations and about the mortality of the treaty. Many debated that the United States should have
signed the Treaty of Versaillesand joined the League of Nations while others oppose both the treaty
and the alliance. I believe that the United States did the right thing by rejecting the Treaty of
Versailles, and avoiding the entangling commitments overseas which the alliance would have
brought upon us.
Correspondingly, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge also held an anti Versailles position. Senator Lodge
viewed the treaty as suspicious and stated more than once that a matter this important should not be
rushed. My one desire is that not only the Senate, which is charged with responsibility, but that the
press and the people of the country should investigate every proposal with the utmost thoroughness
and weigh them all carefully before they make up their minds (Document 1). Lodge acknowledges
that treaties are long and serious documents pertaining to the nation and

Is Jazz Really Dead Essay
Jazz. A label associated with brass, dance and America. A music filled with so much life and
force but to the general appeal, it appears to be dying. Drowning amongst pop songs and dubstep,
it seems that the fate of jazz will resemble the one of dusty library books that have never seen the
time of day. But is Jazztruly dead? Or does it to quote Frank Zappa just smell funny?
About a century ago jazz was considered as popular music and was considerably the most
influential movement at the time. In 1920, jazz had infected Kansas City and it could be heard on
every corner of each street. It began around the early 1900s, when African Americanmusicians
congregated in the city of New Orleans. In the town of Storyville, musicians would share and
improvise their music. Eventually, some musicians would leave New Orleans to share the New
Orleans music. By the 1920s, after jazz had entered the vocabulary in 1917, indie music companies
began recording jazz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even some teenagers disagree with the statement of jazz being dead. I know jazz isn t dead
because a lot of people listen to it. It s just like our generation, we tend to listen to more like pop
and rap rather than jazz. But jazz is like it used to be the pop of a generation so and it s pretty
cool, it s funky. says Sabrina, a student who indulges in chillstep rather than jazz. Other students
agree, saying it s not dead but rather, as Vincent says, it s just not as popular as it used to be.
So maybe jazz isn t dead. Perhaps we mistake the decrease in attention and exposure for a slow
death. The jazz scene might not be as big as it once was, but music is always changing and jazz
was the product of change. It may not top MTV charts and big bands may seem to be low in
number but in my eyes, jazz isn t dying because as we speak now, a child picks up a saxophone,
or a trumpet, or maybe drum sticks and decides at this very moment that jazz is the one for

Angelica Schuyler s Duel Against Inequality
Angelica Schuyler s Duel Against Inequality
A key aspect in which Hamilton brings to light is the values of inequality. Women, while are
making strides, they are still not equal to men. As seen in Hamilton women are just as capable to
perform the same job as men and, in many instances, do the job better. Whether it is inequalitywith
slaves, even leading to some hypocrisy, or with women, some of the key values within Hamilton
are revolve around the fact of equality. In the play, if all people where believed as equal, some of
the role characters such as Angelica, could play a larger factor in the play.
To begin let s talk about gender equality. This is a large issue, one that which has plagued
America for centuries. Angelica is called by experts to be the smartest character within the play.
This is somewhat astounding because she is facing some of the brightest men in history,
including Burr, George Washington, and Alexander Hamilton himself. In the play, there is a
common motif of My Shot . In fact, one of the songs in the play itself is called My Shot . This
particular song speaks to how Hamilton as well as other character are not going to squander their
shot at making America great and free from British rule. In the song Hamilton sings I am not
throwing away my shot! I am not throwing away my shot! Hey yo, I m just like my country I m
young, scrappy and hungry And I m not throwing away my shot! (Miranda, My Shot ). However, is

What Was The Impact Of Nationalism In Germany Between 1815...
Nationalism was a result of a myriad of contributing factors which had a plethora of significant
impacts on Germany during the years 1815 and 1871. Nationalism is an ideology based on the
sense of loyalty and devotion one has to their nation and the beliefs that those who share a common
language, history, and culture should constitute an independent nation free of foreign domination.
The first, and perhaps most significant, effect that nationalism had upon Germanywas that it led to
German unification in 1871. Another impact that nationalism had in Germany was that it allowed
Germans to develop a sense of national identity. Nationalism also played a huge role in enabling
Germany to become a dominant power within Europe. Therefore, nationalism... Show more content

Many attempts to unify the separate German speaking countries were made prior to its official
unification, however, they were all ultimately unsuccessful. This was due to the fact that although
the people were Germanic, they had little sense of a national identity. Nationalism was a driving
force behind the development of a national consciousness as it assisted people in realising that they
were all German and, as a result, were all similar in many ways. These commonalities encouraged
the emergence of a distinct German identity. The biggest cultural factor was undoubtedly the
German language. Although there were different dialects used among the states, these variations

Unit 331 Understanding children and young person s Development. Assignment (Task)
Task D Report
Early identification of speech, language or communication delay is important for a child or young
persons well being. All practitioners have a responsibility to identify children s needs and
intervene with appropriate support as early as possible, to help children achieve the goals of Every
Child Matters and progress towards the Early Learning Goals. The importance of early language
and communication skills for children s later achievements is now well documented and the need
to provide support for children at this early stage is so that they can achieve their full potential.
This means recognising a child s difficulty quickly: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As most of a child s communication happens at home it is vital that close links are made between
professionals and family members/carers and to look at ways of supporting the child or young
person at home.
If a child or young person needs more than the support of the school environment, then a multi
agency team will be involved. This would involve the child s teacher, teaching assistant, the school
SENCO, qualified and experienced professionals, for example Speech and Language Therapists and
most importantly parents. This might be through a recognized programme such as the Nuffield
Dyspraxia Programme, Language through Reading or Social Use of Language Programme, or
through a combination of approaches tailored to suit the individual child or young person.
A child or young person with speech, language and communication delay will usually have a
Multi Element Plan (M.E.P.). If they do not seem to be making enough progress or they need a
lot of extra help the school SENCO will contact the Local Authority and ask them to carry out a
statutory assessment. This is only usually required for children who have the most significant and
long term special educational needs which require a very detailed assessment. It can be a long
process and both the school and parents are involved. If a statement of Special Educational Needs
(SEN) is issued, this will take

Rousey Research Paper
Now, it s officially official. There s no competition for UFC women s bantamweight champion
Ronda Rousey, who knocked out Bethe Correia in 34 seconds Saturday night at UFC 190. No,
Cristiane Cyborg Justino shouldn t be factored into the discussion because she has yet to set foot
in a UFC ring, or prove she can fight at 135 pounds. Most fight fans want to see a dream bout
between Rousey and Justino, but smart money would be on the same result as the rest of Rousey s

Prior to Correia s destruction, Rousey took to social media to dedicate the fight to WWE wrestling
legend Rowdy Roddy Piper, who passed away Friday due to cardiac arrest.
Rousey, who admired Piper, asked him if she could use the nickname Rowdy as her own in 2008.
Piper obliged and Rousey has used the moniker in her unblemished career ever since. It s safe to
say that Piper would have been proud of Rousey s performance Saturday night.

Propaganda in American Media Essay
Propaganda in American Media
One of the greatest revolutions in the twentieth century was not political in nature, however, it
aided in many different political revolutions. This revolution was the communications revolution.
The twentieth century has experienced one of the greatest changes in means of communication
including technologies such as radio, motion pictures, the Internet, advanced communications and
most importantly the television. Sadly, political leaders and the government to convince or
persuade the masses that their ideas supercede those of others have utilized these technologies.
Television, more so than any other form of communication, has been the ultimate tool of the
propaganda effort. It is the trustworthiest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, what we mostly see on the screen is what the sponsors promote, which are usually
mechanisms to keep society stable. This exactly what American media was doing from the
muckrakers of the 20 s to the war in Kosovo in the 90 s. Let us now look at some examples of the
use of TV as a mean of control over society. Before January 1991, public opinion polls showed
that the American public was split into two groups, 50% each, about whether the U.S. should
attack Iraq or not. Historians say however, if any anti war voices had been heard in the mass media
at this time, the outcome could have been completely different. The second example turns out to
be a tragic one, when we talk about the freedom of speech. After the bombing of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki, the pictures of the irradiated Japanese were not made available to the American public
until the 1980 s. In both cases we see the control of society through TV, by those who control it,
and directing society toward a certain destination, which is found to be the way forward for the
humanity , and keeping the system together by creating a popular culture based on consumerism;
turns out to be a modern way of practicing authority in our lives. Unites States government is by far
not the only organization that has utilized methods of propaganda

Examples Of Odysseus As A Modern Hero
What do you think a hero is? I think a hero is someone who cares about others, has a kind
personality, and is a good leader. In the text The Odyssey, people have argued whether or not the
main character, Odysseus, is a hero. I think that Odysseus is a modern hero because he is loyal,
smart, and he is brave.
One way that Odysseus fits the mold of a modern hero is how he is loyal. He was loyal because he
always tried to keep his men safe. In the story The Lotus Eaters while they were on the Land of
the Lotus Eaters, he made sure all of his men were on the ship so none of them were left behind.
He also made sure none of the men on Island of Thrinacia ate Helios cattle. This made him loyal
because loyal people always have their friends backs. This compares Odysseus to a modern hero
because they have to be loyal so they don t let other people down. ... Show more content on

Tips For A Successful Career
What should you do to forge a successful, gratifying career? Briefly explain each of the four
dimensions that should be considered. Where do you need to improve? What is your plan to
accomplish your improvement?
To forge a successful career you should be a specialist, a generalist, self reliant , connected and
also be able to actively manage your relationship with your organization and be able to survive and
thrive in the world.
According to the text it is said you should be a specialist and a generalist, since in your career you
do not just want to be a specialist, you want to advance up and get into higher positions in which
your responsibility increases, you will deal with more people and and understand if not all at
least more areas of the organization. To be a specialist you need to be skillful expert in a
particular valuable area which will help give the firm and the customers a more concrete and
knowledgable value. To be a generalist means to have a wide range of knowledge about diverse
areas in the organization. To be self reliant means to be autonomous and take responsibility for
your own actions. As a human who wants to grow it is our duty to go the extra mile and do what
is necessary to grow without the help of a boss or a company, we must try to be entrepreneurs and
take risk and see where we make mistakes, work hard towards improving those mistakes via
practise and rise upwards. To be connected means to have a lot of good relations with clients and

A Wrinkle In Time Title Analysis
A Wrinkle In time by Madeleine L Engle has a great title and provides the book with a confusing
background. I think that the title of this book is really effective because it will provide mystery
and confusion to the reader even opens up the book, making the reader want to read the book.
First, the title A Wrinkle In Time seems to describe some sort of irregularity of some sort in time,
which seems confusing to me, and most likely everyone else. When I first read the title, it made
me perplexed because I never heard about some sort of wrinkle in time, and the title made me
want to figure out what this meant by reading the book. Since this title is most likely confusing to
others, it will lead them to read the book, just like I did. I thought

Pigafetta s Eater Mutiny
In 1522, the expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan that circumnavigated the entire world reached its
end. Unfortunately, most of the crew perished before the end of the expedition including Magellan.
One important event during the expedition was the mutiny against Magellan. Though Magellan
was not killed in the mutiny, the mutiny must still be investigated. The main problem is that only
two written records exist that document the expedition. One of these records was written by
Antonio Pigafetta. But is Pigafetta s account reliable? Pigafetta s account of the Eater Mutiny is
fairly valid because it is mostly factual, matter of fact, and he took his chronicling seriously. If

Even if an account is emotionless, one must consider if the relevant facts are present. Pigafetta s
account does most of the relevant facts concerning the events of the voyage and the Easter
Mutiny. In order to see if these facts can be trusted, one must look for any opinions. Pigafetta s
undoubtedly had his own opinions, but he did not mention them in his account, thereby
ensuring its validity. One can tell if an account is true if it is corroborated by other sources.
Pigafetta s account is corroborated by both Documents D and E. It can be noted that Pigafetta
neglected some details about the reasoning for the mutiny out of his loyalty to Magellan, but
perhaps he did not know the exact reasoning as the men planning the mutiny would have likely
avoided speaking in front of him as they knew of his loyalty to Magellan, who they were
planning to kill and later discredit. Furthermore, Pigafetta is said to have kept the best record of
the journey in Document B. If a modern historian has said that Pigafetta s report is the best
record they have, one can assume that said report is factual and therefore reliable. In the story
about the boy who cried wolf, people stopped believing him because he was not serious.
However, this is not the case with Pigafetta s account as he took his role as a chronicler very
seriously. From the very beginning, he wrote down what was happening on board,

Almasy had already remembered that he was once in the Gilf Kebir and what he was doing there

The turnover of key employees will mean loss in productivity, loss of customers, damaged morale,
damaged organization image, destabilized business and incurring costs associated with separation,
hiring and training, all which will affect the organization s overall performance. Powerful leaders
know that the success of their company is built on the quality of their people (Cheryl Cran, http:/
/www.cherylcran.com/). Thus retaining top or key performers is critical to the long term health
and success of the business. To counter turnover and its resulting effects, concerted action is
required to retain talented people. Organizations must therefore work on their employee value
proposition. An organization s employee value proposition consists of what an organization has to
offer that prospective or existing employees would value and which would help to persuade them
to join or remain with the business (Armstrong 2009). It will include remuneration which is
important but can be over emphasized compared with other elements that are non financial in
nature. These non financial factors may be crucial in attracting and retaining people and include
the attractiveness of the organization, the degree to which it acts responsibly, respect diversity
and inclusion, work life balance and opportunities for personal and professional growth. The aim
is to become an employer of choice, a firm people want to work and stay with. The study will

(Gallagher, 1999). Collaborative learning refers to a group of students who work together to learn

The Social Development theory consists of four basic principles:
1.Children construct their knowledge
2.Development cannot be separated from its social context
3.Learning can lead to development
4.Language plays a central role in mental development
(Gallagher, 1999).
The first principle deals with the idea that children will actually talk it out to themselves, or use
what Gallagher (1999) referred to as private speech . For example, if a problem arises that is too
difficult for the child to understand, he/she may talk to him/herself to plan out the steps that they
will take to solve the problem. (Gallagher, 1999). The second principle deals with the idea that
cognitive development depends on the child s interaction with people and their culture to stimulate
growth in the child s thought and behavior processes. (Keritsis, n.d.). The third principle centers
around the idea Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) (Gallagher, 1999).; the zone of proximal
development refers to a situation where a child has a problem that is too difficult for them to
solve on by themselves; however, the child is able to solve the problem when given guidance and

Significance Of The Treaty Of Versailles
Madison Welzbacher

World History
Significance of the Treaty of Versailles
World War I was a devastating war that had a long lasting effect on every European country. After
the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austrian throne, and his wife by the hands of a
Serbian terrorist group known as the Black Hand. Germany urged Austria Hungary to attack Serbia,
but Russia stepped up to protect the country. Germany ambushed Belgium, and proceeded to
Russia, throwing Great Britain into the war due to their alliance with Belgium. As a result, the
continent of Europe, including Great Britain, Italy, Russia, Austria Hungary, and France, was
plunged into a great World War. The war lasted from 1914 to 1918, and it left Germany singled
out as the catalyst. In November 1918, Germany finally agreed to an Armistice, a halt in the
fighting, but they did not consider themselves to be surrendering. At the time, the Germans
believed that they would play a role in constructing the treaty that would end the war, but when the
time came, they were not allowed to participate. Germany was greatly angered by this, but there
was nothing that they could do for their army had been disarmed. They had two choices: sign the
Treaty or be invaded by the Allies. With no other option, the Treaty of Versailleswas signed on June
28, 1919 in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles in France. Although the Treaty of
Versailles did bring an end to World War I

It is possible for an individual who dies or becomes totally disabled at an early age to be classified
as fully insured with less than 40 quarters. To receive old age insurance benefits, covered
individuals must also meet the test of retirement. To meet this test, persons under 70 cannot be
earning more than an established amount through gainful employment. This limitation of earnings
does not include income from sources other than gainful employment such as investments or

to receive in their own behalf, called the primary insurance amount, plus supplemental benefits for
eligible dependents. These benefits can be determined from a prepared table. There are also both
minimum and maximum limits to the amount that individuals and their dependents can receive.
The Social Security program provides benefit payments to workers who are too severely

acidic or are not recovering to the point where they cannot support sensitive fish and aquatic biota.
The result is aquatic ecosystems that are unable to support a variety of species; therefore,
biodiversity continues to remain below pre acidification levels.
After reviewing different examples of how pH affects other types of plants and seeds and the
scientific information of acid rain, it is now clear that the optimum pH for plant growth is
between 5.5 and 7. It is also evident that acidic solution affects the growth rate, in which the pH s
with a low value slow down the growth process. There were a low number of seeds germinated
in the pH of 1.65 and 2.11 due to the fact that seeds do not germinate efficiently at acidic solutions.
However, they do germinate at solutions of between 5.5 and 6.5. There is a chance that there was
a decline at pH 5 (the anomaly) due to the fact that it could

Argumentative Essay On Drug War
The U.S Drug War, it has been talked about greatly by politicians, and spoken about countless
times in the news, however, the majority of people do not fully grasp the entirety of this subject,
let alone its inner workings. Like the fact that this is not a recent issue, this war, which some
people think has just been going on for the past few decades, actually started about a century ago.
When people barely noticed the severity of the problem. Even now in the present, people still do not
know the situation such as, how the current policies have not worked and the damage that has been
done to the nation. The U.S. Government should rethink how it comes up with its drugpolicies.
This issue started many years ago and will keep on going for several more to go. It started in the
U.S. about 100 years ago. The grandfather of American drug law is the Harrison Narcotics Act,
passed in 1914 (Eldredge 99). The law was meant by the U.S. Congress essentially to ensure safe
record keeping (Eldredge 99). Before that act was introduced there was very little being done about
the national drug ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) is a component of the Executive Office
of the President (EOP) responsible for running, the federal government s anti drug programs
(Office 1). The agency was made years ago with one of its purposes being to try and prevent the
spread of drugs. The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) was created by the Anti
Drug Abuse Act of 1988 (Office 1). One of the programs it runs helps to try and keep young
people away from drugs by using the media. The Media Campaign Act of 1998 directed the
ONDCP to conduct a national media campaign for the purpose of reducing and preventing drug
abuse among young people in the United States (Office 1). Which is of much help, since at that age
people are most vulnerable to fall into

Literary Theorist Thomas Pavel Takes A New Approach In
Literary theorist Thomas Pavel takes a new approach in interpreting myth in his article Reflections
on the Oedipus Myth. Pavel s main theme throughout the article consists of arguing that while Levi
Strauss s structuralist interpretation of myth is important, it is too simplistic and does not suffice in
giving an accurate analysis alone. He essentially uses Levi Strauss s binaries as framework to
approach the myth, but focuses on details within the oppositions to depict the consequences of
action. In the Aeneid, an epic poem by Virgil, the binary opposition of voluntary associations versus
blood relations is presented through Aeneas s relationship with his father versus his relationship
with Dido. When interpreting the myth solely through... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, Levi Strauss s approach to this myth just focuses on the Roman s embrace of blood
relations over voluntary associations and the demonization of the latter. Of course, this
interpretation fails to mention any sort of detail that would describe the implications Aeneas s
choice and his relationship with Dido leaving the reader with a partial analysis of the myth.
Firstly, the binary fails to recognize the effect that Aeneas s relationship with Dido had on
Carthage and Dido herself. The binary seems to romanticize Aeneas s prioritization of blood
relations over voluntary ones as it leads to the creation of Rome and in turn demonizes Dido s
relationship because if Aeneas had chosen to stay Rome wouldn t have been founded. What the
binary doesn t do is discuss the negative consequences Aeneas s involvement led to. For starters,
the relationship between Dido and Aeneas wasn t just a fleeting, temporary, and miniscule thing
at least not for Dido. Juno herself united them in holy matrimony and Aeneas just disregards their
marriage without really caring for the repercussions (Aeneid Book 4, Line 146). Aeneas didn t
even care to confront Dido over his decision to choose his blood relations over her, he opts for a
failed sneak away in the middle of the night. Eventually, he does leave Carthage also leaving his
wife, Dido, in complete and utter distress. Their relationship meant so much to Dido that

hiked across part of Africa untill he arrived at the coast where he was loaded onto a slave ship.
While crossing the Atlantic to Barbados onboard the slave ship he and his countrymen were
subject to horrors you could hardly imagine. Equiano tells about the horrors and torture slaves

With the many people in such a small place and the humidity, the temperature below decks was
unbearable. There was no fresh air, nothing but the nasty stench of the latrines and peoples body
odor. The air became unfit to breathe and almost suffocated them. There were children that
would fall into the latrines and almost drowned. Many slaves would get sick and die in this
terrible place and never make it to Barbados. Shrieks of women and the groans of the dying
made the whole scene a nightmare. This caused some slaves to jump off the ship and drown
themselves. The first time he was flogged was on the ship when he refused to eat. Two white
men tied his feet. One white man held his hands while the other flogged or whipped him.
Prisoners were severely cut and flogged for hours for trying to jump off the ship. He had never
seen such savage brutal cruelty among people. When the ship reached Barbados the slaves were
put into a pin like animals. At the sound of a drum, buyers rushed out to pick out the slaves they
wanted to buy. Then no matter if they were friends, husbands, wives, brothers, or sisters they were
separated and never to see each other again. Equiano was sold and worked on a plantation in
Virginia County, weeding grass and moving stones. On this plantation he saw the black slave cook
with some kind of iron muzzle that locked her mouth shut so she could hardly speak. I guess this

Julia Harris And Artur Samarin In The Great High School...
Everyone does crazy things. Sometimes, people cannot control themselves from acting out or
doing things that could harm others. Julia Snyde, the unsub from Gentlemen and Players by
Joanne Harris and Artur Samarin from The Great High School Impostor by Daniel Riley are
portrayed as evil people because they both make selfish decisions that hurt others around them to
fulfil their motives of extracting revenge on St Oswald s and having a comfortable life in the US
respectively. But that is just one side of the story. They have had very difficult upbringings and
have never felt loved. Julia Snyde and Artur Samarin are both portrayed as selfish and vicious by
their actions. But, their actions are a result of PTSD caused by spending their childhood... Show

But, this does not work in either case as the relationships formed are emotionally damaging and
even illegal in the case of Artur. While pretending to be a boy to attend St Oswald s, Julia Snyde
meets Leon and immediately falls in love with him. But, Leon does not feel the same way. In
fact, even when he knows that Julia is in love with him, he continues to play with her emotions
and makes her spend time around him when he is with Francesa, his new girlfriend. Leon is a
vain, self centred teenager who enjoys tormenting Julia. Leon knows that Julia does not enjoy
being around Francesa. But, he forces her to. Snyde said that she had a shack... it was there that
we went, I keeping watch, smoking and trying not to listen to the sounds that came from the
little shack behind me (Harris 213). Leon makes Julia Snyde keep watch while he was sexual
intercourse with Francesa just a few feet away. Only a sick, mentally unstable human would do
such things. He subjects both Julia and Francesa to a feeling of him wanting the other and
mentally torments Julia as she has to watch the love of her life, be with another girl and she can t
do anything about it. This affects Julia so heavily that she is never able to have a good relationship
with anyone in her life without feeling insecure about herself. In fact, she harms or pushes people

My Experience Of Teens
It is truly astonishing how much we, as teens in the 21st century, take for granted. We go
through our day, as if everything we do is a given right, rather than a privilege that we have. We
don t ever stop to think about how so much, could be taken away from us in an instant. It was
Monday, June 5th, 2017. I had just come back from an invitational hockey camp in Canada and I
was up bright and early that morning so that I could go to Westridge and take my last two finals
of the year. By the time I had gotten in the car, it was 7:20 in the morning, and I felt ready to take
my finals. While in the car, my mom was listening to KBS radio station. I wasn t completely
listening, but from what I could hear, the station was talking about a single engine planecrash in the
Santa Rosa Valley that happened the other day. They were just mentioning how the two victims
in the plane crash were identified just as I was getting out of the car. From there, I tried to clear
my mind of everything and just reviewed the things that I knew. I walked onto campus with my
face inside a binder and although I knew the material, I attempted to cram even more useless
information into my brain. I stopped in front of my math classroom when I felt my phone
ringing inside of my crossbody bag, against my hip. I grabbed my phone out of my bag to see that I
already had 4 missed calls from one of my good friends, Miles Brodey. Assuming that Miles would
be calling me with a purpose, I adjourned my terse review

born to Gertrud (Lichtwitz), from Budapest, and Emil Kiesler, a banker from Lviv. Lamarr had
three kids in her lifetime; Anthony Loder, Denise Loder, and James Lamarr Markey.
Lamarr had an interest for films and acting from a young age. She was privately tutored from age 4.
By the time she was 10 years old she was a proficient pianist and dancer. She could also speak four
languages. She enrolled in Max Reinhardt s Berlin based dramatic school, at age 16. After three
years of acting her career was halted by her 1933 marriage to Fritz Mandl. Mandl prohibited her
from doing any stage or screen appearances, he also tried to destroy all prints of Ecstasy. After
leaving Madl, she went to Hollywood in 1937.
Her first English language film was Algiers. (1938) After being confined to mainly decorative
roles, she set up her own production company in 1946 hoping to secure more substantial roles.
After three years she went back to her previous ways. Landing a part in her most known film

There were many women and children coming across the sea into America; Hedy was
determined to help. Lamarr would try to work on a device to help with the war, by herself. But
she was never successful, until she was working with composer George Antheil. Together they
created a frequency hopping device. The frequency hopping device works by rapidly changing the
radio transmission on a large number of channels. The device was invented as a way to direct
missiles that could resist Nazi jamming attempts. They received a patent in 1942, though there was
no interest among the American military until 1960 s. The device created by Lamarr and Anthiel
was first implemented on Naval ships during the Cuban Missile Crisis which caused multiple

Captain James Cook
Captain James Cook, FRS, RN (7 November 1728[NB 1] 14 February 1779) was a British
explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain in the Royal Navy. Cook made detailed maps of
Newfoundland prior to making three voyages to the Pacific Ocean, during which he achieved the
first recorded European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiian Islands,
and the first recorded circumnavigation of New Zealand. Cook joined the British merchant navy
as a teenager and joined the Royal Navy in 1755. He saw action in the Seven Years War, and
subsequently surveyed and mapped much of the entrance to the Saint Lawrence River during the
siege of Quebec. This helped bring Cook to the attention of the Admiralty and Royal Society. This...

After passing his examinations in 1752, he soon progressed through the merchant navy ranks,
starting with his promotion in that year to mate aboard the collier brig Friendship.[6] In 1755,
within a month of being offered command of this vessel, he volunteered for service in the Royal
Navy, when Britain was re arming for what was to become the Seven Years War. Despite the
need to start back at the bottom of the naval hierarchy, Cook realised his career would advance
more quickly in military service and entered the Navy at Wapping on 7 June 1755.[7] Cook
married Elizabeth Batts (1742 1835), the daughter of Samuel Batts, keeper of the Bell Inn,
Wapping[8] and one of his mentors, on 21 December 1762 at St. Margaret s Church in Barking,

Joseph (1768 68), George (1772 72) and Hugh (1776 93). When not at sea, Cook lived in the East
End of London. He attended St Paul s Church, Shadwell, where his son James was baptised. Cook

The audience must realize that the concept of the song is to fight the urge of seduction. The Siren s
voices are seductive to the all the men who will listen. Furthermore, temptation is a struggling event
that kills people s inner beliefs. This adds to the singer starting to believe that he is not strong
enough. However, he knows that he will keep fighting. With the same concept, John William
Waterhouse s painting Ulysses and the Sirens gives off the idea to use a contrast with darker and
lighter colors. Ulysses and the Sirens shows Odysseus and his crew surrounded by seven Sirens.
When looking at this picture, the viewer might feel a sudden flash of chills because of how dark
the scene is. It forces the viewer to take a closer look at the scene and see what is really
happening with Odysseus and his men. Waterhouse s painting also shows a dark scene with light
peeking through the two cliffs (Waterhouse). No hope is given off with this scene. The concept is
that temptation will beat the men and it will force them to give up. The men are believed to have
no hope until they reach the end of the

Joseph Henry s first discovery was that the power of a magnet could be immensely strengthened

pounds of weight. Joseph Henry showed the difference between quantity magnets composed of
short lengths of wire connected in parallel and excited by a few large cells, and intensity magnets
wound with a single long wire and excited by a battery composed of cells in series. This was an

Tiananmen Square Massacre (June 4, 1989) Commonly known as the June Forth Incident (е…四事件) or the 89 Democracy Movement (е…«д№ќж°‘иїђ), the Tiananmen Square protests lead by students, was a bad memory for the protesters in China back in 1989. Student protesters in Tiananmen Square, Beijing were brutally restrained by the Chinese military eight years before the handover of Hong Kong to China. Chinese troops violently retook the square in Beijing where pro democracy protesters had set up camp for weeks. The Tiananmen Square massacre left an unknown number dead, with some estimates in the thousands, and smothered a democratic movement. (Rayman, 2014) CNN report (2015) had stated, Several hundred civilians have been shot dead by the Chinese... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But as its citizenry awoke on July 1, 1997, there was no outward appearance of change apart from the unnerving lines of People s Liberation Army (PLA) troop vehicles moving through the streets to take over security responsibilities for the former British outpost. They have remained in barracks. (Connors, 2015) d. Anti subversion Act Mothballed (July 1, 2003) Six years after the handover, half a million marchers questioned if the mantra, one country two systems was going to last 50 years. The cause of the fear was anti subversion law Article 23 and its possible enactment in the Basic Law, prohibiting any act of treason, secession, sedition, or subversion against the Central People s Government, or theft of state secrets . It called for the banning of groups outlawed in mainland China on national security grounds and gave police wide search and seizure powers without a court order. By early September, the much maligned secretary for security, Regina Ip, was dumped, and chief executive Tung Chee hwa was forced to postpone the introduction of the bill indefinitely. (Connors, ... • 3. Family Is The Fundamental Unit Of Society And Today It Is... According to Dr. Alina Costin, family is the fundamental unit of society and today it is used with a wide variety of meanings (2014). In 2007, single parent families make up thirty two percent of the population (Benokraitis, 2012). As more adult remain single into their thirties and divorce rates are higher, the number of children living in single parent families has increased (Benokraitis, 2012). The number of never married people has gone up form four percent in 1960 to forty three percent in 2010 (Benokraitis, 2012). Women also run an over whelming eighty seven percent of single parent households in the United States (Benokraitis, 2012). While these statistics seem daunting, it is important to remember how children and the parent are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Single father families make up a small proportion of all single parent families (Coles, 2015). Children living in these families often exhibit more behavior and academic problems than children who live with single mother families (Pong, Dronkers, and Hampden Thomas,2015). Despite these findings, the number of single father households has increased about nine fold since 1960, from less than 300,000 to more than 2.6 million in 2011(Coles, 2015). Women will more likely attend to primary and daily parenting tasks, such as feeding, dressing, and emotional nurturance of children, whereas men will attend to play activities and financial provision (Coles, 2015). Another study also found that single mothers and fathers displayed similar rates of participation, with single mothers less involved than married mothers and single fathers more involved than married fathers (Nord et al., 1997). According to Coles, living in a single mother family increases the risk for delinquency (2015). This is likely due not to the mothers lack of parenting ability but rather the need to support their family financially (Rodgers and Rose, 2001) The most popular explanation centers on a resource deprivation argument single mothers have fewer resources (e.g., income, time, energy), thus leading to diminished social control and socialization (Coles, 2015). Single fathers tend to be better off in terms of income and social support than single mothers (Coles, 2015). They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The audit has been dragged out for over nearly a decade regarding Microsoft s overseas subsidiaries, and an investigation was being conducted in regards to whether the Redmond company improperly moved software code worth billions of dollars offshore in a way that illegally evaded its U.S. tax bill. Under current law, corporate profits earned overseas and left overseas are not subject to taxation in America. The IRS spent years requesting documents and interviews with Microsoft employees regarding the investigation. In December of 2014, the IRS sued Microsoft in order to force them to turnover documents and information that the IRS claimed the company failed to provide in the investigation. Microsoft s position in regards to the IRS is that they abused their federal power when they hired an outside law firm to aide them in auditing Microsoft. In 2014, the IRS decided to hire an outside law firm to discuss the case against Microsoft. The problem was that the law firm, Quinn Emanuel, had little experience handling taxpayer data, and in order for the firm to perform the audit, it needed the classified, secret tax documents that was provided by the IRS. However, according to current U.S. law, only employees of the IRS are authorized to view those files. Hot water is essential to a pleasant shower and is essential for keeping things clean and sanitary in your home. A bad thermocouple is one of the more common reasons for a gas water heater to stop producing hot water. Check For A Pilot Light The first thing you need to do is check and see if the pilot light on your gas water heater is lit. The pilot light is located near the bottom of your water heater. You should literally see a flame if the pilot light on your gas water heater is working properly. It is a sensor that provides information to the gas valve on your gas water heater. It tells the gas valve when and if it should release gas. It also tells it how much gas to release. The thermocouple is attached directly to the gas valve on one end, and the other end is set up to literally feel the heat from the pilot light. This allows the thermocouple to determine who much heat is being produced and how much gas needs to be let out. Replacing The Thermocouple It is easy to replace a thermocouple. First, you are going to want to turn off the gas to your water heater. You should never work on your gas water heater when gas is running to it. Take off the cover that goes over the burner compartment. Then take apart the gas tubes that are attached to the burner assembly. All you need to do now is replace the thermocouple on the burner unit, but it back in place, turn the gas back on and see if you can get the pilot light to work again. The thermocouple basically just needs to be pulled off and the new one inserted in its place. • 13. Alice Walker Heritage Roy E. Disney once said, When values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier. In Everyday Use, by Alice Walker, this statement holds true. Through the eyes of the hard working, single parent living in the south, Mama faces daily decisions that are often difficult. At the climax, Mama must decide whether to give the quilt to the daughter who seems to have everything, or to the daughter that is less fortunate. As any mother is influenced by their daughters, Mama takes sympathy for the youngest, while judging her oldest for her actions, behavior, and ideas that are very different from her own. She views Maggie as the slower child that doesn t really have much, when really she has every opportunity to become great. Her view of Dee is a little harsher than that of Maggie. She sees Dee as a girl in her own world who doesn t care about anything but herself. Mama describes Dee s hair in major detail It stands straight up like the wool on a sheep. It is black as night and around the edges are two long pigtails that rope about like small lizards disappearing behind her ears. This shows Mama s disproval in how Dee has changed, she is in awe of what she sees. As far as Mama s sympathy goes for both of her daughters, she does not understand the difference between generations of time from herself to her oldest daughter, Dee. This conflict creates an emotion that Mama doesn t know if she can ever come by. Dee shows Mama that she has grown up and realized that family and heritage is what means the most to her. Mama doesn t comprehend the difference of the values between her two daughters, based on the life they grew up in. However, she has a way of showing both compassion and un forgiveness, just maybe not at the best of times. This being said, Mama is an unsympathetic character that is based off of the way she grew up. Human Rights Abuses Of Fiji Essay Human Rights Abuses in Fiji From the time when commander Commodore Josaia Voreqe (Frank) Bainimarama abrogated Fiji s constitution and took over the elected government, there have been increasing reports of human rights violations within the country as well as defilements of the rule of law (Amnesty International, 2014). The main sources of these rights violations have been from overseas tourists, international and local journalists and also non profit organisations that have been committed into bringing about justice for the people whose rights have been constantly oppressed by Bainimarama s regime (Amnesty International, 2014). These sources have witnessed the situation and have considered it as a total violation of international human rights which demands immediate action from not only neighbouring countries but also the international community. Correspondingly, Amnesty International continued to document cases whereby human rights are being continually ill treated by the military (Amnesty International, 2009). For example, earlier this year Amnesty International in one of their reports documented human rights activists peacefully protesting have been arrested and incarcerated with no fair trials (Amnesty International, 2009). • 15. Using Correlation Method For Match Two Digital Images MATCHING: We have used correlation method to match two digital images. This technique is also known as template matching. It compares portions of one image against another on a pixel by pixel basis. Correlation is a measure of degree to which two variables agree, not necessarily in actual value but in general behavior .The two variables are the corresponding pixel values in two images , template and source. The matching process moves the template image to all possible positions in a larger source image and computes a numerical index that indicates how well the template matches the image in that position. Template is nothing but a small region of image. Correlation method is simple and hence can be analyzed appreciatively. There are two key features which make it simple and they are: shift invariant and linear.Shift invariant means that we perform the same operation at every point in the image. Linear means replacing every pixel with a linear combination of its neighbours. The goal of this method is to find the correlated pixel within a certain disparity range that minimizes the associated error and maximizes the similarity. The Treaty Of Versailles The United States vs. the Treaty of Versailles The Treaty of Versailles was a peace settlement between Germany and the Allied Powers signed on June 28, 1919. The Treaty of Versailles officially ended World War 1. However, since the conditions in the treaty were so punitive towards Germany many believe that it was also partly responsible for starting World War 2. Before the treaty was signed President Woodrow Wilsonand his opponent in congress, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge debated over the membership in the League of Nations and about the mortality of the treaty. Many debated that the United States should have signed the Treaty of Versaillesand joined the League of Nations while others oppose both the treaty and the alliance. I believe that the United States did the right thing by rejecting the Treaty of Versailles, and avoiding the entangling commitments overseas which the alliance would have brought upon us. Correspondingly, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge also held an anti Versailles position. Senator Lodge viewed the treaty as suspicious and stated more than once that a matter this important should not be rushed. My one desire is that not only the Senate, which is charged with responsibility, but that the press and the people of the country should investigate every proposal with the utmost thoroughness and weigh them all carefully before they make up their minds (Document 1). Drowning amongst pop songs and dubstep, it seems that the fate of jazz will resemble the one of dusty library books that have never seen the time of day. But is Jazztruly dead? Or does it to quote Frank Zappa just smell funny? About a century ago jazz was considered as popular music and was considerably the most influential movement at the time. In 1920, jazz had infected Kansas City and it could be heard on every corner of each street. It began around the early 1900s, when African Americanmusicians congregated in the city of New Orleans. In the town of Storyville, musicians would share and improvise their music. Eventually, some musicians would leave New Orleans to share the New Orleans music. Other students agree, saying it s not dead but rather, as Vincent says, it s just not as popular as it used to be. So maybe jazz isn t dead. Perhaps we mistake the decrease in attention and exposure for a slow death. The jazz scene might not be as big as it once was, but music is always changing and jazz was the product of change. Women, while are making strides, they are still not equal to men. As seen in Hamilton women are just as capable to perform the same job as men and, in many instances, do the job better. Whether it is inequalitywith slaves, even leading to some hypocrisy, or with women, some of the key values within Hamilton are revolve around the fact of equality. In the play, if all people where believed as equal, some of the role characters such as Angelica, could play a larger factor in the play. To begin let s talk about gender equality. This is a large issue, one that which has plagued America for centuries. Angelica is called by experts to be the smartest character within the play. This is somewhat astounding because she is facing some of the brightest men in history, including Burr, George Washington, and Alexander Hamilton himself. In the play, there is a common motif of My Shot . In fact, one of the songs in the play itself is called My Shot . This particular song speaks to how Hamilton as well as other character are not going to squander their shot at making America great and free from British rule. In the song Hamilton sings I am not throwing away my shot! I am not throwing away my shot! Hey yo, I m just like my country I m young, scrappy and hungry And I m not throwing away my shot! Nationalism is an ideology based on the sense of loyalty and devotion one has to their nation and the beliefs that those who share a common language, history, and culture should constitute an independent nation free of foreign domination. The first, and perhaps most significant, effect that nationalism had upon Germanywas that it led to German unification in 1871. Many attempts to unify the separate German speaking countries were made prior to its official unification, however, they were all ultimately unsuccessful. This was due to the fact that although the people were Germanic, they had little sense of a national identity. Nationalism was a driving force behind the development of a national consciousness as it assisted people in realising that they were all German and, as a result, were all similar in many ways. These commonalities encouraged the emergence of a distinct German identity. The biggest cultural factor was undoubtedly the German language. Although there were different dialects used among the states, these variations emerged from the same source, hence, the German people had shared a common language. All the states also shared customs and a common culture, which stemmed from similar tastes in literature and music. There was an increase in German literature, from the works of Goethe and Schiller, that recognised common German characteristics and an interest in folklore also emerged at the time, as a result of the works of The Brothers Grimm, who presented these tales as German in origin and changed details that suggested different origins. What became the German national anthem was a poem that read Deutschland Гјber alles / Гњber alles in der Welt , which translates to Germany above all else / Above all else in the world . This exactly what American media was doing from the muckrakers of the 20 s to the war in Kosovo in the 90 s. Let us now look at some examples of the use of TV as a mean of control over society. Before January 1991, public opinion polls showed that the American public was split into two groups, 50% each, about whether the U.S. should attack Iraq or not. Historians say however, if any anti war voices had been heard in the mass media at this time, the outcome could have been completely different. The second example turns out to be a tragic one, when we talk about the freedom of speech. After the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the pictures of the irradiated Japanese were not made available to the American public until the 1980 s. Collaborative learning refers to a group of students who work together to learn and understand a new skill. (Gallagher, 1999). The Social Development theory consists of four basic principles: 1.Children construct their knowledge 2.Development cannot be separated from its social context 3.Learning can lead to development 4.Language plays a central role in mental development (Gallagher, 1999). The first principle deals with the idea that children will actually talk it out to themselves, or use what Gallagher (1999) referred to as private speech . For example, if a problem arises that is too difficult for the child to understand, he/she may talk to him/herself to plan out the steps that they will take to solve the problem. (Gallagher, 1999). The second principle deals with the idea that cognitive development depends on the child s interaction with people and their culture to stimulate growth in the child s thought and behavior processes. (Keritsis, n.d.). The third principle centers around the idea Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) (Gallagher, 1999).; the zone of proximal development refers to a situation where a child has a problem that is too difficult for them to solve on by themselves; however, the child is able to solve the problem when given guidance and encouragement by someone who knows more about the problem the child is working on (More Knowledgeable Other ... • 32. Significance Of The Treaty Of Versailles Madison Welzbacher September 19, 2014 World History Significance of the Treaty of Versailles World War I was a devastating war that had a long lasting effect on every European country. After the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austrian throne, and his wife by the hands of a Serbian terrorist group known as the Black Hand. Germany urged Austria Hungary to attack Serbia, but Russia stepped up to protect the country. Germany ambushed Belgium, and proceeded to Russia, throwing Great Britain into the war due to their alliance with Belgium. As a result, the continent of Europe, including Great Britain, Italy, Russia, Austria Hungary, and France, was plunged into a great World War. The war lasted from 1914 to 1918, and it left Germany singled out as the catalyst. In November 1918, Germany finally agreed to an Armistice, a halt in the fighting, but they did not consider themselves to be surrendering. At the time, the Germans believed that they would play a role in constructing the treaty that would end the war, but when the time came, they were not allowed to participate. Germany was greatly angered by this, but there was nothing that they could do for their army had been disarmed. They had two choices: sign the Treaty or be invaded by the Allies. With no other option, the Treaty of Versailleswas signed on June 28, 1919 in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles in France. This limitation of earnings does not include income from sources other than gainful employment such as investments or pensions. Social security retirement benefits consist of those benefits which individuals are entitled to receive in their own behalf, called the primary insurance amount, plus supplemental benefits for eligible dependents. • 38. Effects of Acidic Depositon The graph shows the pH value of acid rain water affecting crops in Vietnam. The two bar charts represent two different places in Vietnam: Hoa Binh and Ha Noi. The graph proves that the frequency of rain with below a pH of 5 is more frequent than above 5. This pH value results in the crops growing less. Like Vietnam, Canada is also facing issues with acidic deposition. A case study done by un.org claims that The North American Maple is dying at a rate of 2.3% for each 100 exceedance units due to the loss of calcium and other nutrients from soils. Lakes and streams are also remaining too acidic or are not recovering to the point where they cannot support sensitive fish and aquatic biota. The result is aquatic ecosystems that are unable to support a variety of species; therefore, biodiversity continues to remain below pre acidification levels. After reviewing different examples of how pH affects other types of plants and seeds and the scientific information of acid rain, it is now clear that the optimum pH for plant growth is between 5.5 and 7. It is also evident that acidic solution affects the growth rate, in which the pH s with a low value slow down the growth process. There were a low number of seeds germinated in the pH of 1.65 and 2.11 due to the fact that seeds do not germinate efficiently at acidic solutions. Pavel s main theme throughout the article consists of arguing that while Levi Strauss s structuralist interpretation of myth is important, it is too simplistic and does not suffice in giving an accurate analysis alone. He essentially uses Levi Strauss s binaries as framework to approach the myth, but focuses on details within the oppositions to depict the consequences of action. In the Aeneid, an epic poem by Virgil, the binary opposition of voluntary associations versus blood relations is presented through Aeneas s relationship with his father versus his relationship with Dido. Ultimately, Levi Strauss s approach to this myth just focuses on the Roman s embrace of blood relations over voluntary associations and the demonization of the latter. Of course, this interpretation fails to mention any sort of detail that would describe the implications Aeneas s choice and his relationship with Dido leaving the reader with a partial analysis of the myth. Firstly, the binary fails to recognize the effect that Aeneas s relationship with Dido had on Carthage and Dido herself. The binary seems to romanticize Aeneas s prioritization of blood relations over voluntary ones as it leads to the creation of Rome and in turn demonizes Dido s relationship because if Aeneas had chosen to stay Rome wouldn t have been founded. What the binary doesn t do is discuss the negative consequences Aeneas s involvement led to. For starters, the relationship between Dido and Aeneas wasn t just a fleeting, temporary, and miniscule thing at least not for Dido. Juno herself united them in holy matrimony and Aeneas just disregards their marriage without really caring for the repercussions (Aeneid Book 4, Line 146). Aeneas didn t even care to confront Dido over his decision to choose his blood relations over her, he opts for a failed sneak away in the middle of the night.
