The Liberal Arts Program Catches Your Attention
You arrive on campus for a tour, hear the beautiful music of the band, see some of the most amazing
pieces of art and get to sit in the classes of current students. Falling in love with the literature,
philosophy and other courses offered by the university. In general the Liberal Arts program catches
your attention. This program becomes a deciding factor in narrowing down your options and finally
making the decision of what college you are going to attend. But before you can; you find out this is
the last year they will be open because of the lack of funds. This is a common devastation for many
Universities because due to lack of funds they either shut down the program or prohibited the program
growth.
Perfect examples are Sweet Briar College, and Tennessee Temple University. Sweet Briar College a
private all women s Liberal Arts college in Virginia due to insurmountable financial challenges was
shut down.Tennessee Temple University a Christian Liberal Arts College was to shut down and merge
with Piedmont International University another private Christian College 300 miles away in North
Carolina . Could you imagine what is going through the head of these colleges students right now?
They are losing their second home, families and some maybe losing their chance at an education. Now
imagine the impact of the future generation, these two colleges could save lives of many and even turn
arounds lives of others. The issue here is that many feel as if there is no need for a

Incompetence Is Considered An Effective Employee
If an employee has been guilty of serious misconduct, habitual neglect of duty, incompetence or
conduct incompatible with his duties, or prejudicial to the employer s business, or if he has been guilty
of willful disobedience to the employer s orders in a matter of substance, the law recognizes the
employer s right summarily to dismiss the delinquent employee.
This definition of just cause, which was set in 1967 by the Ontario Court of Appeal, continues to be
referred to today. When just cause is proved, an employee can be dismissed without notice or
compensation. Just cause can be defined as, employee conduct that amounts to a fundamental breach
of the employment contract. Just cause can be found through any one of the following ... Show more

The employer may even input a program to assist the employee in increasing their performance.
Unionized or tenured employees are a special case when it comes to being able to dismiss an
incompetent employee. For example, a professor, who has tenure, fits the special case of an employee
who has worked for numerous years in the position and is then seemingly guaranteed the job for life.
College administrators frequently claim that faculty tenure prevents them from adapting the
curriculum more effectively to accommodate changes in the economy and to the patterns of student
demand. Which is why some commentators, of course, welcome the collapse of the tenure system,
saying tenure provides job security for indolent and incompetent professors. 4 Situations as above,
makes people question why professors with tenure are able to get away with being incompetent, but
other employees need to be careful and avoid it.
The current precedent case in Canada acting as the authority in situations of dismissal on grounds of
incompetence can be found in the Manitoba Court of Queen s Bench ruling of Boulet v. Federated Co
operatives Limited; the decision delivered June 25th, 2001. This case became known for establishing
the set of criteria in which

The Positive Impact Of The Roaring Twenties
Post war years have significant impacts on a society s economy, bringing an abundance of celebration,
cherished moments and highlighting the end of the plagued events of war and loss. With the end of
such an afflicted time period, the arrival of solidarity and unification in society usually follows. The
Roaring Twenties accomplished many positive changes in Canadian society, building the path it needs
to follow to become a great nation and progress into the future. The time period was regarded as a
time of excitement and prosperity concerning the fads, fashions, and entertainment, as well as the
freedom many people gained with the end of the war. Furthermore, the Roaring Twenties can also be
seen as a time of positive change due to a variety of factors such as Canada s developing autonomy
and political relationship with Britain, pushing Canada to become an independent nation. Another
factor would be the Canadian industries and economy that flourished during the 1920s which allowed
many Canadian businesses to prosper and enabled Canadians to acquire and enjoy an improved
quality of life. Finally, the change in societal status and role of women established the starting point of
gender equality between men and women, as well as the recognition of the various contributions that
women were capable of bringing to society.
Before the 1920s, Canada made decisions on its domestic matters independently. It was only during
the 1920s that Canada began to take an independent approach in

If the firm do so, they can make money without harming its loyal customers perception. Besides, the
firm would create an opponent for GAFCEL with the help of this strategy. Moreover, the coated
products Sealed Air produce corresponding to GAFCEL s uncoated bubbles can be sold for a lower
price because of the fact that the firm makes at least 50% profit for all kind of coated bubbles
according to Table D. Since the profit margin is very high, the firm would sacrifice some part of it and
can both increase distributors earnings as well as decrease the product sale price. Moreover, Sealed
Air should put aside some budget for advertisements to support brand image. It should differentiate
itself from contenders while focusing on its products strength and quality. Moreover, they should
expand their product line to meet all kind of customers need.
5. Given your plan, what will be the impact on Sealed Air s business model?
Thanks to those implementations, Sealed Air could maintain its market leadership without harming the
brand image. Besides, lowering sale prices would make the firm gain price conscious customers as
well as increasing the distributor s profit margin would improve the firm and distributors relationship.
If it is possible, the firm would distribute Astro s uncoated bubble products to abroad that Sealed Air
would dominate European packaging market mostly served for the price conscious

Macroscopic Evidence Of A Chemical Reaction Lab Report
1. What type of macroscopic evidence for chemical change did you observe during this experiment?
Give at least three different examples. (15 points) The main evidence of chemical change in this lab is
the change in color, production of gas, and the production of precipitate. These reactions can be seen
from just a little bit of reaction all the way up to a complete change of the entire sample tested. Some
samples of those tested in this experiment which showed the chemical reaction were the baking
soda/ammonia mixture, the Epson salt and baking soda mixture as well as the food coloring mixed
with the baking soda and bleach. 2. Which reactions, if any, do you believe showed no evidence of
chemical change? Justify your reasoning. (15 points) There was one combination that did not have any
reaction when tested. This combination was the MgSO4 and CH3COOH. The reason that the reaction
did not happen is because they created a mixture and not a chemical change. 3. ... Show more content

The Music Of Music And Music In The Hobbit
The Hobbit Essay
There are approximately thirteen songs in The Hobbit, enough for one in almost every chapter.
Although it cannot be classified as a musical because all the characters are aware that they are singing,
the music still plays an essential role in the development of the story. Many characters from almost all
of the races Tolkien introduces us to compose a song at one point in the story. These songs integrate
relevant details of lore, character development, and a glimpse into the world of Middle Earth. If a
reader investigates further into the songs and poems of The Hobbit, they will find that Tolkien uses
poems and songs to reveal important attributes and estab lish the history and motives of different
species, such as dwarves, elves, and goblins.
One of the first races the readers are introduced to are the dwarves. These short and squat creatures
were once great miners and metal workers whose kingdom was taken by the dragon Smaug. One of
the songs that the Dwarves sing in the first chapter, titled Over the Misty Moun tains Cold, has a
somber and vengeful tone. It has a simple structure of only four lines per stan za and contains
repetition of lines. The rhythm is reminiscent of the repetitive swing of pickaxes, reflecting the
straightforward and sturdy nature of dwarves, and their connection to mining. It speaks about the
ancestry of the dwarves, the splendor and loss of their city of Dale to Smaug, and how they must
regain what

The Art Of Flamenco Dancing
Mahatma Gandhi once stated that A nations culture resides in the hearts and souls of its people This
holds evident in the European country of Spain. Spain is a country of long time tradition in which
people work hard to continue on with a culture they created long ago. Spain is a very colorfully
cultured country with many famous and important traditions one of which is, the art of flamenco
dancing.
Flamenco, a beguiling mix of guitar, song and dance forged by the ancient Andalucía Gypsies. Its
theme of joy and sorrow appears to be an expression of the Gypsy way of life. Flamenco is very

At this time Franco took the same ideas of French romantics and turned it into a money maker. He

To find reality behind Flamencos post card image you could look towards Granada. Here you would

Gypsies lived in caves cut out of the soft hillside of Sacromonte. There are two types of gypsies.
Gypsy s from the north and gypsies from the South. Those in the south came with dancing styles
influenced by other countries. These influences came through Iran, Iraq, Greece and Turkey and they

Christian reconquest of Spain. They brought with them strong Indian connections within their song
and dance. (messynessy, 2014) This was the time of Ferdinand and Isabella, Catholic Monarchs that
were determined to remove Muslims and Jews and the gypsies where caught up in the persecution.
There were very strict laws, gypsies where forbidden to speak in their own Romany language which
was different from Castilian. They were forbidden to wear their dresses and socialize in group settings

Biography of Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin can easily be recognized as a pure genius. In his lifetime, he single handedly changed
the way we see the world. His theories led to the study of the modern evolutionary theory of the
world. Charles was a collector of plants, animals, and other specimens. From an early age, Charles had
an immense love for nature, which started his career as a scientist. His trip to the Galapagos Islands
forever changed his life and reputation. His two famous works were the Origin of Species and the
Descent of Man.
Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, England, in 1809. He was the son of Doctor Robert Darwin.
His father was a wealthy aristocrat, and also a good investor. During Darwin s first years in life, his
mother was very ill, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Darwin also theorized that man is firmly rooted in the animal kingdom and that all animals are cousins
of each other.
Darwin found the most important findings at the Galapagos Islands. These islands were filled with
exotic life. These creatures were prehistoric like, and not afraid of humans. This island was abundant
with similar animals with slight variations. He found finches with small beaks used for insects and
berries, and finches with much tougher beaks used for nuts. He determined that these creatures mutate
in order to survive in their environment. This theory became known as survival of the fittest , or
Natural Selection. Natural Selection is natural variations among a specie to insure the species
reproductive success. During his voyage around the world, Darwin collected 1,500 animals, and 4,000
samples of skin and bones of his specimens.
After his return, Darwin married his first cousin, Emma Wedgwood in 1839. A major factor in their
marriage was that he could not believe in Christianity. Darwin was troubled with chills and vomiting.
For the next 40 years of his life, Darwin s productivity was cutback. He was unable to work for more
than 3 hours at a time. Out of his 10 children, only 7 survived to adulthood. He was a loving father to
all of his children, and could not bear to see them suffering. Annie died at age 9, which spurred his
belief of the end of a just world.

Figure 1: A summary of the various types of Pukulan found in the Kompang Ezhar (Abdullah, 2005)
In Kompang, rhythm is mainly characterized by the interlocking of different parts divided within the
Kompang ensemble. Interlocking is basically done with two or more Kompangs playing
simultaneously, with one part playing the Basic beat which is usually the downbeats; another part
playing the Rhythm beat which is usually the off beats; and an additional part(s) playing the Leading
beat which is usually characterized by triplets or a syncopated rhythm that creates a unique
interlocking texture specific to the Malay Kompang musical genre (Hahril, 2010). In addition,
instrumentation is a musical element that is relatively fixed in Kompang; there is usually a group of
Kompangs playing together, and occasionally, accompanying voice.
1.3 Performance Context
In the Singaporean context, the Malay Kompang is usually seen performed at weddings and
celebratory ceremonies, or at traditional showcases. As the Kompang is usually performed in large,

The Importance Of Transportation In Canada
Toronto is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada; transportation is heart beat to it. City of Toronto

Abusive Relationships In The Movie
Yearly, referrals to state child protective services involve 6.6 million children, and around 3.2 million
of those children are subject to an investigated report, (). This staggering statistic illustrates the reality
of abuse in the real world. Abuse is a wide spanning idea, and it manages to manifest itself in several
different forms. Throughout Damien Chazelle s 2014 film, Whiplash, the main character trudges
through a psychologically abusive relationship with the film s antagonist. Three primary examples can
be provided to prove this relationship including Andrew, the main character, being persistent in
seeking the main drummer role, Andrew s car crash, and Andrew seeking out Fletcher after he is fired.

During this scene Fletcher invites Andrew to play in his band due to needing more people. Fletcher
informs him of the music that will be played during the performance, but he changes the selection as
Andrew prepares to begin playing on stage. This leaves Andrew without any knowledge of what
music he needs to play, and it causes him to serve as a ridiculous figure in front of many critical
musical figures in the audience. This situation is one final detail which is telling about the abusive
relationship between the two. Fletcher uses this situation as a final instance of abuse against Andrew
despite his intentions being seemingly genuine at their meeting in the music club. In this scene
Fletcher is entirely willing to throw away all of the work that Andrew has put into his career up to this
point, and that includes all of the teaching that Fletcher has abusively forced upon Andrew in an
attempt to make him great. Some might argue that this is a way of Fletcher making Andrew prove
himself, but this can t be the case if Fletcher is willing to put all of Andrew s progression on the line
without any justification or reasonable opportunity for Andrew to succeed. This scene serves as further
evidence of the abusive relationship between the two, and it ultimately serves as Chazelle s final
attempt at driving the abusive relationship that exists throughout the entire

than any other time of life. Childhood is a time of curiosity and realization. What you learn in your

I would not let this happen to me. (Dillard, P.26) She had realized how people s youthful appearance
deteriorate as they aged. It kind of scared her, because she didn t want it happening to her. Another
difference Dillard observed was religion. She disliked the Catholic schoolchildren, because she was
afraid of their beliefs. She expressed thoughts on how uptight the religion was compared to her own
when she said Whatever the pope said, I thought it was no prize, it didn t work, our Protestant lives
were much sunnier, without our half trying. (Dillard, P. 33). She also talked about changes in
Pittsburgh s appearance. City workers continually paved the streets, They poured asphalt over the
streetcar tracks, streetcar tracks their fathers had wormed between the old riverworn cobblestones,
cobblestones laid smack into the notorious nineteenth century mud. This message is important because
after childhood, you start to grow more aware of the world around you, which is a big change.
Children are often oblivious to changes, but as you get older, you notice how things change more up
close and personal. Throughout An American Childhood, Dillard expresses how significant history of

The Importance Of Somaliland In The United States
Thurgood Marshall said, In recognizing the humanity of our fellow beings, we pay ourselves the
highest tribute. Perhaps us senators need to take in his advice in recognizing Somaliland. Affirmation
of Somaliland is crucial because the encouragement of African action should not become the basis for
inaction on the part of the United States. Jendayi Frazer, in her report on Somaliland: Time for African
Union Leadership, states that the United States would recognize Somaliland if the others acted first.
But Somaliland deserves recognition from a purely U.S. centric national security perspective. The
United States has always stood to protect the values that it was founded upon. Somaliland, in its
entirety fits this impression. The Somaliland government and population embody a moderate voice in
the Muslim world that rejects radical interpretations of Islam, including that espoused by the Council
of Somali Islamic Courts currently in control. It would serve as a bulwark against the further
expansion of radical ideologies in the Horn of Africa by offering a brilliant case of how ... Show more

According to professor Peter Schraeder, Recognition of Somaliland, would serve as a powerful lesson
for other countries within the region of the benefits associated with the creation and consolidation of
democratic systems of governance. Somaliland would, thus, become a model to emulate. From
recognizing Somaliland, the United States would be undertaking a proactive policy in support of a
moderate, Muslim democracy. In comparison, by not recognizing the state, we would be keeping the
status quo in Somalia, which would not only prolong the human suffering there, but also, increase the
spreading radicalism and chaos that could engulf the region entirely. In this scenario, diplomatic
recognition for Somaliland would be unjustly denied and would further delay opportunity for

Conversion Of 2d Image Into 3d Image Using Segmentation
Conversion of 2D Image into 3D Image Using Segmentation

Abstract Image captured by two dimensional camera contains no depth information. However depth
information is needed in many applications, for example in robotic vision, satellite imaging and target
tracking. To extract depth information from images Stereo matching is used. The main aim of our
project is to use stereo matching algorithms to plot the disparity map of segmented images which
gives the depth information details. Particle Swarm Optimization and K means algorithms are used for
image segmentation. Our main objective is to implement stereo matching algorithms on the segmented
images, compare the results of K means and PSO on the basis of objective parameters such as PSNR,
execution time, density of disparity map and compression ratio and perform subjective analysis of
reconstructed 3 D images. The compared results show that the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm
gives better 3 D reconstructed image.

I. INTRODUCTION People can see the depth of the objects because they see the 3D world from two
moderately dissimilar angles (one from right eye and other from left eye). Our brains then figure out
how close things are by determining how far apart they are in the two images from our eyes. Our
objective here is to do the similar thing using a computer. Initially a

Death Of A Loved One Analysis
Legal Considerations and Preparations for the Death of a Loved One
Introduction
The loss of a spouse, partner or loved one is a very difficult time. Even as you try to cope with your
own loss, emotional adjustments, and grief, there are many important legal and financial arrangements
to consider and be made. Thoughtful estate planning and preparations not only help the surviving
spouse or partner, but also provides instruction for your last wishes. I hope the following some of the
most common concerns I have observed as an elder law attorney will help you prepare ahead.

Make a list of what friends and neighbors can help you with. Tasks could include collecting mail, pet
sitting, house sitting during wake/shiva/funeral, organizing meals for a period of time, carpooling kids
to school/camp, etc. Surrounding yourself with loved ones and friends will give you the strength and
support to stay organized and help in your own healing and grieving.
Estate Administration
If you are acting as the executor of an estate, you have been trusted to fulfill each of the provisions
and terms of a will. Executors are often under intense scrutiny from beneficiaries named in the
document. Unfortunately, this scrutiny can lead to a number of accusations that may require legal
representation to resolve. Legal representation will provide you with the legal advice you may need to
help you protect both your interests and the intentions of the decedent.
In many cases, disputes that arise during the probate process seriously undermine both the process
itself and the intentions of the decedent. These disputes may potentially arise at any point of the
probate process, including the process of assessing the assets included in the estate, recovering any
debts owed to the estate, dispersing funds to cover claims against the estate and distributing assets to

The Law when Two Companies Merge
1A.
During the Merger of AB and YZ into MN, an issue relating to licence keys will arise because of the
Copy Right Act of 1988. This is as the software that was previously licenced to both companies has
now become invalidated due to the fact it was licenced to each individual and respective company, but
not MN as a whole. Therefore any software used in the development and hosting of the database and
website, will now have to be renewed.
For the merging of the systems and newly built website, the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982
would expect a reasonable level of quality that someone, who is in the business would be expect from
web design and database systems university graduate. The Supply of Goods and Services Act also
stipulate that we should agree to a cost that is reasonable for part time university students. This could
be around 3 4k for the website and around 2k for the database integration. A time scale of around three
months should also be set; this will be to allow the student to carry on with their study while working
for MN.
We should also be aware that a website made by students may not have the most secure systems
employed, and a data breach could be possible. If a data breach does happen then the impending ICO
enquiry for breaking the Data Protection Act 1998, will land squarely on our shoulders. This is as the
courts will not accept our decision to allow students to become MN s data controller.
Systems should also be in place to automatically delete

American Born Chinese Stereotypes Analysis
American Born Chinese Stereotype Essay
The most common stereotypes today are dumb blonde, geek, nerd, smart asian, fat american, terrorist.
These insults are used everyday, as it is a way for society to label people for being different from
everyone else. Stereotypes are used in American Born Chinese to show how stereotypes are used to
negatively group people, to depict how others bully those who are different, and are used to show how
stereotypes affect those they are directed towards and those around them in a negative way.
The first way stereotypes are used is to show negative stereotypes from the looks from other people.
One example of this happening is on page 31. [Timmy ] My momma says Chinese people eat dogs.

One example Yang gave was when Jin was eating his lunch and a group of boys went over to him.
They teased him about eating dogs (Yang 32 33). This only because Timmy and the teacher assumed
the worst of Jin s culture and associated him with it. These kids were bullying Jin because he was
different. This happens everywhere from the workplace to the classroom and some people think that it
is true so it is okay. In order to make them look and feel superior, the kids bullied Jin and made him
feel left out and not worth anything. This also happens today, as people are constantly putting down
others at work or in school due to their race, religion, or just by the way they look. Another example of
stereotypes being used to show superiority is when Peter Grabinsky taking Jin s sandwich and
promising to be his friend if he continued to give his lunch to him (Peter) (Yang 34). Peter then treats
Jin as if he is a dog s favorite toy that will soon be forgotten and thrown away. This does happen, as
Peter leaves to live with his father and leaves Jin. This example shows how Peter took advantage of
the other children s disliking towards Jin due to what he looked like by taking his lunch and abusing
him. Both of these show how students of mayflower elementary treat Jin as if he is useless and bully
him in order to make them feel special. The kids saw that Jin was different and their brains seemed to
associate him with eating dogs and coming from china. To sum it up, the children making fun of Jin
for supposedly eating dogs just shows that the children are making him seem abnormal and a shame to
society just because he is from a country that does things that are frowned upon in their

Narrative Essay About Mickey Mouse
I remember the event like it was yesterday; my heart was beating and I could hear and feel it, I had
determination on my face and in my mind and it felt good. My determination was to beat my younger
brother to the top of the tree in our side yard. I almost never climb the trees in our yard for the fear of
falling out; which has happened before when we went apple picking which did not end well on my
part of climbing in those apple trees. But we were getting ready that nice sunny morning in the
summer. I remember the nice sunshine and heat on my face and the cool winds coming from the East
and it was just exhilarating. I told my brother Michael I bet you five bucks you can t beat me to the top
of that tree! pointing at one in the yard. I knew he would do it because he would want the money and
he always wanted to one up me.
So we were setting up and talking smack to one another, names being changed to something else
although I deflected all of his I came up with the nickname of Mickey Mouse. Funny thing is that
nickname stuck around through that day and not his real name Michael. So we are all prepared to do it
and we are at the bottom of the tree. I noticed that there was a cinder block at the bottom of the tree
and I said Mickey better not fall on that. . And that was a dumb thing to say as to I should have just

Explain Why Early Jamestown Why Did So Many Colonists Die
Early James Town: Why did so many colonists die?
These colonists died months after settlement. Why did they meet there death so early? The Colonists
came for one reason. Or at least most of them. Gold, Silver and riches. So many colonists died at
Jamestown in the beginning because of lack of commit, native American attacks and poor
environment conditions.
These people who the Virginia company sent to the New World They thought they were skilled and
prepared to survive on this new land of mystery. But this wasn t the case. They were hiding a secret.
They had no skills or plans to live and thrive on this new world. See, The settlers want to get gold and

why is this important? Because they had to drink water? And the water was right there. (Doc A) They
had the right idea. The water was on a current and they thought that when they use the bathroom it

Freudian Psychology In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
William Golding s novel, Lord of the Flies, focuses on a deserted island housing a small group of
boys. Sigmund Freud, an Austrian Neurologist, developed psychoanalysis and coined many terms and
ideas about the mind. Freudian psychology can be used to further understand Golding s characters,
Jack, Ralph, and Piggy. Jack, consumed by his impulsive urge to hunt, acts as Freud s id. Ralph
demonstrates the term ego as he logically attempts to resolve problems. Piggy, concerned with
morality and the words of his aunt, behaves as the superego. Jack, representing the Freudian term id,
acts impulsively to satisfy his basic needs with obsessive hunting. Once on the island, Jack focuses on
hunting and finding food to eat and keep himself alive. Like the id, Jack longs to fulfill his basic,
instinctual needs and receive short term satisfaction, rather than long term fulfillment. The freudian
term id is the part of the mind which deals with innate impulses and primary processes without
consideration. Instead of worrying himself with tasks that require thinking ahead, like making shelters
or fire, Jack s only concern is hunting. After the idea of being rescued is brought to his attention, Jack
had to think... before he could remember what rescue was. Rescue? Yes, of course! All the same, I d
like to catch a pig first... We want meat (Golding 62). Jack seems to have lost all trace of complex

Socrates As A Prince
Socrates believes that a prince ought to be a citizen philosopher who sets the example for all citizens
through his/her character. Socrates posits to his friend Crito that the considerations you [Crito] raise
about expense and reputation and bringing up children... are the concerns of the ordinary public, who
think nothing of putting people to death, and would bring them back to life if they could, with equal
indifference to reason (Crito 87). This indifference to reason that Socrates claims about the public
amounts to an indictment of the leadership in Athens at the time. This excerpt shows how the princes
who ruled Athens, who acted unjustly, who created the institutional climate of execution and fear
(which Socrates is a victim of), transferred these ways of thinking and acting to the people of Athens.
Socrates then paints a picture instead of how a prince should act, and what their role should be by
describing his own work: I busied myself all the time on your behalf, going like a father or an elder
brother to see each one of you privately, and urging you to set your thoughts on goodness (The
Apology 57b). This encompasses his role as a citizen philosopher when he served in the Athenian
government before the Spartans toppled the democratic regime. He acted with the virtues of
compassion, generosity, and faith, instead of the Machiavellian virtues of prowess, deceit, and cruelty.
In this matter, he was both a just leader and a philosopher, setting the standards for

Connotation In Le Message Photographique, By Roland Barthes
In le message photographique ( Communications 1, 1961), roland barthes states that photography is a
message without a code . According to him, the photographic image, as a reproduction of reality,
functions, in a first and more fundamental level, according to the regime of denotation . The
denotative impression that an image arouse, Barthes observes, is so intense to make any description
impossible considering that describing an image means to add to the denoted message a codified
message of second level: the verbal language. The denotation, however, does not exclude connotation,
instead, it is exactly the paradox of photography: the coexistence of two messages one without a code,
the other one codified. Connotation always has an historical cultural ... Show more content on

Apparently, none since the point that photography, by its nature, can t help to denote the external

Barthes, in the la camera chiara, to clamorously deny this theory admitting that he can t include in his

The Objectivity Of Science And Science
The objectivity of science would be contingent on our trust in the scientists who are feeding us
knowledge. We often believe these scientists, but is there actually a reason for us to trust what they are
passing on to us? What would science be if they had not been telling the truth? There is no denying the
existence of public trust in the words of scientists, but it should be noted that everything that we
understand as scientific fact today would be in question if we lost trust in our scientists. Teachers of
science, doers of science, and scientific writers are most definitely the source of the majority of our
scientific knowledge. We have to trust these people though because if we do not trust them, who do
we trust?
The main point I am ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And if so, is being virtuous and moral enough of a reason for us to confirm our trust in the reliability
and authority of science? Could it not be the case that scientists are seen as ordinary people possessing
extraordinary knowledge as a result of their job title or description? The fact that we have this
widespread trust of science proves that we must believe to have an understanding of what scientists
are like.
There has been a long going development of a public image of scientists, one that has recently begun
to change. Due to factors such as the internet and the media, science is something that is able to been
seen and looked into simultaneously by numerous people. When a scientist intentionally fudges their
data, it is not small news. Problems of this sort have birthed various concerns about science, and about
science s authority and reliability in specific. This speculation of dishonest scientists not only will
effect the reliability of science in the eyes of the public, but also the realm in which scientists are
producing truly credible knowledge. Our technical knowledge is only as secure as the moral economy
in which it is produced (Shapin, ?). As of now, the way in which scientists come to agree or settle
disputes, is an issue that we cannot fully grasp.
This skepticism of scientific objectivity appears to be the cause of a number of our fundamental
contemporary dilemmas regarding the morality and authority of science. As long as scientists

The second is when Dashkova expresses (almost demands) to Catherine the Great that she wants to be

Persuasive Essay On Video Games
Growing up as a gamer, I have experienced many new things in the video game industry. I ve been
playing video games since the Sega genisis that I started playing when I was three years old. I ve been
gaming almost my whole life, I have watched new console been introduced, seen video games go
from 1080p to now an amazing 4K which makes the graphics look amazing. Modern video games
even have virtual reality that you as a consumer can now play in your own living room. But, even
though we have amazing things in video games the modern gamer is being introducing to a new
problem. The problem I am addressing of coarse is micro transactions in video games. Modern game
companies are charging you $60.00 dollars for a video game. Once you purchase this said video game
you have to grind countless hours in order to obtain specific items that will enhance your abilities in
this virtue world, or you can turn your real life currency into this video game currency in order to
potentially get these items early on. This concept is called pay to win. The definition of pay to win as
stated in wikipedia is In some multiplayer video games, players who are willing to pay for special
items or downloadable content may be able to gain a significant advantage over those playing for free.
Though I believe companies should be allowed to do this in free video game, I think it is wrong to
charge someone $60.00 and afterwords try to make them buy guns in order to enhance their gameplay.

My Personal Statement On My Life
For as long as I can remember, I was told I could do anything I put my mind to if I was willing to put
forth the effort. My parents played the essential role of providing resources that would instill a good
work ethic and passion in me. While my options are limitless, I have spent most of my academic

me into the passionate person that I am today, so the answer to Who are you? is not simple but is

I learned the values of respect, honor, and drive from both my biological family and my church family.
I grew up going to Sunday school in the Episcopal Church where I learned what it meant to have
morals and how to be an all around decent human being. At home, my parents taught me similar
values and lead by example while explaining the importance of kindness towards others. Growing up
in the Episcopal Church has grounded me in such a way that I can find a home and family anywhere
in the world simply by finding a church with the iconic red doors. My spirituality and dedication to
service formed me into a caring person who can never say no to someone in need. The church has
always been my outlet where I can find peace and serenity, so in return I dedicate my time to giving

These drug metabolizing enzymes absorb and eliminate the drug through various routes of metabolic
biotransformation. Phase I enzymes mainly catalyze the oxidation, reduction, and hydrolysis reactions,
e.i. Cytochrome P450s (CYPs) are abundantly present in the liver and oxidize small molecules. Phase
II enzymes catalyze mainly conjugation reactions that involve glucuronidation, sulfation, and
acetylation. Lastly, hepatic transporters allow drugs to be absorbed and eliminated from the liver.
Therefore, the biotransformation of drug in the body is important to factor to be considered.
Hepatocyte like cells (HLCs) are tissue specific derived cells that are differentiated from iPSCs.
Unlike primary human hepatocytes, HLCs have the lower level of enzymatic activity and maturation
of hepatocyte phenotype. Most of drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters are regulated by
xenobiotic sensing nuclear receptors, CAR (constitutive androstane receptor) and PXR (pregnane X

expression of CYP activity than primary human hepatocytes as well as expression of transporters. For

expressed in the liver. However, surprisingly, in HLCs, the expression of CYP3A4 is not presented

distribution like record labels however, sometimes a deal can be made through a record label just for
distribution purposes. Although Live Nation lacks in certain areas that major labels have; they are
making agreements with other companies such as, Ticketmaster, to help their artists as well as
themselves to become successful. One of these strategies involves ticketing and fan clubs. The core of
the music industry is not albums or singles, but live performance; hence why Live Nation is

Esperanza Rising Character Analysis
Everybody has difficulties in their lives that change them in some way, shape, or form. When a person
experiences these difficulties; It can cause them to shift their outlook on certain things and/or cause
changes in character. This is certainly the case when it comes to Esperanza Ortega. She is the main
character in Esperanza Rising. Esperanza 13 years old and lives in El Rancho de las Rosas. She is the
only daughter of a very wealthy rancher. Esperanza is forced to leave her perfect life due to the murder
of her father. She comes to California and becomes a peasant worker. This journey causes Esperanza
to change in many different ways.
The first way that Esperanza changes involves the change of her attitude. She is initially very selfish
and quite arrogant. The transition that she goes through ends up causing her to be more of a kind
person. She is also very generous to everyone around. Before she made this change, her selfishness
was very obvious. This was evident when she was traveling to California with her mother. She did not
want to be in the cheap section of the train where peasants travel. Esperanza goes on to say, We cannot
travel in this car. (Munoz Ryan) She really does come off quite arrogant. Her selfishness is also very
evident when she is getting on the train. Esperanza is holding her doll and a girl named Mona,
daughter of a peasant, wants to hold her doll. She would not even allow the girl to touch the doll.
Esperanza says to her mother, Mama she is

Comparison Of Mountains Of Collioure By Andre Derain
What I initially noticed when looking at the landscape painting Mountains of Collioure(1908), by
Andre Derain was that the brushstroke is like of the impressionists, in which the strokes are short and
thin, as well as seldom use of the color black. It is also highly contrasted in color, with many hues of
various colors. I also notice that if it were painted by a kid it makes sense that the painting s colors
would not match the natural colors of the actual subject matter within the painting. The mountains are
off colored from the natural color using different tones and shades of orange and blue, while the trees
are somewhat natural, with the use of darkened orange, and intermediate hues such as blue
green, yellow green, and others. Also notice

Texas Women’s Health Program
The Texas Women s Health Program has start off on a foot of controversial opinions, personal ideals,
and questionable authority, and with these comes thousands of critiques, arguments, and overall
complaints for the program as a whole. The two prominent sides to this story, those who are for the
bill and those who are not, both have their own motives and reasons for their beliefs, and I am not
different. Biases exist in any opinion, and they become more evident in accordance to how
controversial that opinion is, yet I will try my best to break down arguments to their core evidence to
best formulate and improve my own opinion. On the side of those who not only advocate the bill but
created it there is a very complicated idealism rooted in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This tiered system sets up privileges that are difficult, if not impossible, to break out of. Even before
the cuts less than 20% of women in need... were served... out of the 1.7 million women in need
(Stevenson, 2014). A legislation that was created to benefit and, as the advocates for the bill have said
before, create the ideal world without abortion has succeed in undermining the health and safety of the
individuals within the state. The benefits of this bill help little to no one as people are forced to
conform based around moral ideals. Now here is where the issue becomes convoluted, because it
surprisingly needs to be argued that the entire backbone to the abortion debate is grounded in moral
high ground authority. Rick Perry claims that a baby can feel the pain of being killed and that we [the
state] have an obligation to end that type of cruelty, (Smith, 2013) yet there is little to no evidence that
a fetus can feel pain inside the womb as it lacks the developed nervous system to feel anything. Basic
reflexes are available to be seen but where this pain comes in has no scientific evidence, and to base
an entire law over the concept of pain and morality rather than actual irrefutable evidence is a stance
best kept in ancient times that lacked modern science.
This moral connection to human life and innocence of children can be seen further connected in Texas
new sonogram law, which requires that a woman seeking an

How I Approach Program Development
HOW WOULD I APPROACH PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Upon reading and reflecting the insight and knowledge gained from this case study my three values
for a program development and strategic analysis would be: a personal connection with the local
population, minimizing hierarchy, and enforcing accountability and transparency in the organization.
In terms of who I would work with, I favour the idea of working in a smaller organization. I would
accept funds from multilateral organizations, not the government, and I would be working at the local
level. Working in a smaller organization at the local level allows for greater accountability and a lesser
chance of conflicting motives. As previously mentioned, smaller organizations may lead to exclusion.
To prevent this I would be willing to work with like minded small organizations to divide the
population. My main interest would be cultivating a relationship with the population. The personal
connection with the population is probably the hardest task because we are not all as willing as Roy to
immerse ourselves in the community. This relationship also relies on the population because they need
to be willing to share and collaborate. This connection is the most important because it allows for the
strongest trust and the greatest understanding of the needs in the area that we are working. It also
allows us to ensure that our endeavours for the project align with our program. Having an extensive
understanding the needs specific

Copyright Laws Should Be Legal
Over two centuries ago Congress enacted the first copyright law with the intent that it would allow
authors and creators of works to be the sole profiters and exclusive rights holders over their work for a
specified time. After the specified period of time ended, the works would pass into ownership of the
general public. Since the Copyright Act of 1790, copyright laws have continued to evolve and still
struggle to keep up with an ever changing, fast paced society. With the use of the World Wide Web and
the ease of downloading, copying, and file sharing increasing, copyright holders in the United States
and those with vested interested in copyright laws are calling for changes to be made to copyright
laws. In more recent years, additional concerns with online copyright laws have arisen, leading some
to call for stricter laws, while others are calling for more lenient laws, and questions on the legality of
the laws continue to surface.
Overtime copyrights have come to hold a significant economic bearing on companies and the
Chamber of Commerce estimated copyright infringement and counterfeiting costs copyright holders
$135 billion each year, making the issue of copyright law on the forefront of a lot of corporation s
agendas (Callander, S. Hoyt D. 2013). One of the more controversial copyright laws that deals with
both foreign and domestic online activity is the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) that was proposed to
the House of Representatives in 2011 (Carrier, M. 2013).

The Character Of Diana In The New Woman
George Meredith s 1885 Diana of the Crossways accounts the charming and witty titular heroine
through her miserable marriage and the subsequent fallout. Although Diana is based on polemicist
Caroline Norton s own disastrous marriage and divorce scandal, Meredith s protagonist borders
between New Woman themes and Victorian feminine ideals, as Diana does not damningly deviates
from the latter. In this essay, I will explore how Meredith has rendered the character of Diana palatable
for upper and middle class Victorian readers by comparing her to her real life counterpart, to Thomas
Hardy s portrayal of the New Woman and his issues with publication and how Meredith s
characterization has created an archetypical character thereby allowing for critical and commercial
success. The New Woman was a feminist ideal used to describe an independent, educated, and self
reliant woman who typically would push the limits of the male dominated society. While Meredith has
come to be remembered as a friend to women s plight for his sympathetic depiction of women in his
novels, he has taken certain liberties to convey Diana as digestible as possible to his audience rather
than realistically or particularly liberated. In a time in which women were expected to get married not
that marriage was meant to satisfy their emotional or sexual needs Caroline Norton is often described
as being pushed into marriage to George Norton. Caroline Norton and her sisters had come to be
known as the Graces , an allusion to the Greek goddesses of charm, beauty, and human creativity, for
their own beauty and accomplishments. For this, George Norton was willing to accept her without a
dowry. Meredith s Diana abruptly enters her engagement after having her best friend s husband
demonstrate sexual interest in her. In a letter to her best friend, she states, Signify your approval, for I
have decided that it is the wisest thing a waif can do [marriage]. (Meredith 54) This slight narrative
alteration presents Diana sympathetically to the audience as a woman seeking male protection, a very
proper action a Victorian woman should make. The action seems sensible if not laudable, which will
only garner sympathy for Diana later on once it is revealed what

Differences Between Pre Code And Pre-Code Movies
The magazine article describes the stark contrast in the portrayal of female sexuality between pre
Code and post Code movies. Pre Code movies are flagrantly sexual; although some contemporary film
critics believe that women were simply embracing their sexual freedom through these pre code films,
the marketing for many of these brazenly sexual films often included derisive comments from males,
suggesting that the intent of overt sexuality in films was more crude. Post code films often used
screenwriting strategies to stay within bounds of the Code. Denby argues that this censorship actually
created a net benefit for women, who were given stronger personalities and more interesting plot lines
instead of simply being sexual objects. The article suggests that censorship led to the inception of the
screwball comedy genre, which was forced to create sex without sex. The article takes many examples
from primary sources, mostly from films of the pre Code and post Code era. He utilizes these films to
exemplify the difference in the portrayal of sexuality due to the Production Code. Secondary sources,
including a book called Pre Code Hollywood by film historian Thomas Doherty, are used to analyze
pre Code films, which did not follow political or moral patterns of the time. The article describes the
relationship between censorship and screwball comedies as a causal one. Pre code films would
brazenly use female sexuality to make more money through straightforward sex appeal, using

Case Study Of Chief Davis Executive Style
After carefully reading the case studies, I concluded that Chief Davis executive style is in line with
The Statesman and Chief Fortier s executive style is in line with The Administrator. The Statesman
style stresses leadership and Chief Davis had a strong subordinate leadership in which he allowed their
thoughts and ideas to be put into place (Cordner, 2016). The Statesman focuses on the department s
interests by being in constant contact with the community as well as the government and gives them
tasks in order to provide leadership within the community. Chief Davis focused on building support
from outside of the agency by becoming transparent with the community and by allowing them to see
what decisions were being made. Chief Davis had strong ties to the local businesses and as a result,
they heavily supported the Lowell Police Department. A strong indicator that the LPD had the backing
of their community was that a fundraiser led by a local businessman to raise some $200,000 to buy the
department s mobile precinct (Cordner, 2016, p. 488). Chief Davis also had the strong support from
Senator Paul Tsongas, who was a resident of Lowell and worked well with the city government. By
being involved in the local government as well as the university and businesses in Lowell, Chief Davis
was extremely successful in getting community and monetary support for his department (Cordner,
2016). Chief Davis was also successful in convincing the residents in the community to build a new
precinct in the crime riddled Cambodian neighborhood. This was largely done because he had the trust
and support of the community as well as seeking the help and advice from outside of the department
in Linda Hart. Chief Davis even was able to win over one of his non supporters by hiring Cambodian
and Latino officers to help close the communication gap between the police department and the
minority communities. The Statesman can often have a negative impact on a department because the
department members feel that he or she loses touch of who they are representing, but Chief Davis
never lost the trust of his personnel and built a supporting coalition inside as well as outside of the
department. The Administrator style of leadership

The Famous Mona Lisa Was Created During The Renaissance Essay
The famous Mona Lisa was created during the Renaissance by Leonardo da Vinci. The Renaissance
began in the 14th century and ended in the 17th century. A minority of Italian thinkers decided it was
time to begin a new age. It was a European period that linked between the Middle Ages and modern
history. It was a revival in interests of artistic achievements and literature of the Classical world.
Renaissance also means, A revival or rebirth. The Renaissance invented and created many methods
that changed artwork and education for the world. They improved science and technology to another
level that reformed the world. The movement began in Italy where libraries and academies thrived but
eventually will spread throughout Europe. Exploration was changed in the movement where new
continents would be discovered. Printing, astronomy, growth of commerce, innovations, and
gunpowder also played roles in the Renaissance. Humanism was a big theme at the time. Leonardo
was The Renaissance Man because he applied his science knowledge through every aspect of life. His
inventions and methods were remarkable for his time, but his artwork was very dramatic and
expressed a lot of meaning. There is a huge appreciation for this time period.
Leonardo da Vinci was a leading artist during the Renaissance period who created many of master
works that are admired throughout history. Da Vinci was born in a farmhouse on April 15, 1452 in
Vinci, Italy. Leonardo was a vegetarian who loved animals and was

  • 2. The Liberal Arts Program Catches Your Attention You arrive on campus for a tour, hear the beautiful music of the band, see some of the most amazing pieces of art and get to sit in the classes of current students. Falling in love with the literature, philosophy and other courses offered by the university. In general the Liberal Arts program catches your attention. This program becomes a deciding factor in narrowing down your options and finally making the decision of what college you are going to attend. But before you can; you find out this is the last year they will be open because of the lack of funds. This is a common devastation for many Universities because due to lack of funds they either shut down the program or prohibited the program growth. Perfect examples are Sweet Briar College, and Tennessee Temple University. Sweet Briar College a private all women s Liberal Arts college in Virginia due to insurmountable financial challenges was shut down.Tennessee Temple University a Christian Liberal Arts College was to shut down and merge with Piedmont International University another private Christian College 300 miles away in North Carolina . Could you imagine what is going through the head of these colleges students right now? They are losing their second home, families and some maybe losing their chance at an education. Now imagine the impact of the future generation, these two colleges could save lives of many and even turn arounds lives of others. The issue here is that many feel as if there is no need for a ... • 3. Incompetence Is Considered An Effective Employee If an employee has been guilty of serious misconduct, habitual neglect of duty, incompetence or conduct incompatible with his duties, or prejudicial to the employer s business, or if he has been guilty of willful disobedience to the employer s orders in a matter of substance, the law recognizes the employer s right summarily to dismiss the delinquent employee. This definition of just cause, which was set in 1967 by the Ontario Court of Appeal, continues to be referred to today. When just cause is proved, an employee can be dismissed without notice or compensation. Just cause can be defined as, employee conduct that amounts to a fundamental breach of the employment contract. Just cause can be found through any one of the following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The employer may even input a program to assist the employee in increasing their performance. Unionized or tenured employees are a special case when it comes to being able to dismiss an incompetent employee. For example, a professor, who has tenure, fits the special case of an employee who has worked for numerous years in the position and is then seemingly guaranteed the job for life. College administrators frequently claim that faculty tenure prevents them from adapting the curriculum more effectively to accommodate changes in the economy and to the patterns of student demand. Which is why some commentators, of course, welcome the collapse of the tenure system, saying tenure provides job security for indolent and incompetent professors. 4 Situations as above, makes people question why professors with tenure are able to get away with being incompetent, but other employees need to be careful and avoid it. The current precedent case in Canada acting as the authority in situations of dismissal on grounds of incompetence can be found in the Manitoba Court of Queen s Bench ruling of Boulet v. Federated Co operatives Limited; the decision delivered June 25th, 2001. This case became known for establishing the set of criteria in which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Positive Impact Of The Roaring Twenties Post war years have significant impacts on a society s economy, bringing an abundance of celebration, cherished moments and highlighting the end of the plagued events of war and loss. With the end of such an afflicted time period, the arrival of solidarity and unification in society usually follows. The Roaring Twenties accomplished many positive changes in Canadian society, building the path it needs to follow to become a great nation and progress into the future. The time period was regarded as a time of excitement and prosperity concerning the fads, fashions, and entertainment, as well as the freedom many people gained with the end of the war. Furthermore, the Roaring Twenties can also be seen as a time of positive change due to a variety of factors such as Canada s developing autonomy and political relationship with Britain, pushing Canada to become an independent nation. Another factor would be the Canadian industries and economy that flourished during the 1920s which allowed many Canadian businesses to prosper and enabled Canadians to acquire and enjoy an improved quality of life. Finally, the change in societal status and role of women established the starting point of gender equality between men and women, as well as the recognition of the various contributions that women were capable of bringing to society. Before the 1920s, Canada made decisions on its domestic matters independently. It was only during the 1920s that Canada began to take an independent approach in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sealed air was the packaging market leader in the US while its history has been characterized by technical accomplishment. It also expanded its packaging market through abroad. If the firm do so, they can make money without harming its loyal customers perception. Besides, the firm would create an opponent for GAFCEL with the help of this strategy. Moreover, the coated products Sealed Air produce corresponding to GAFCEL s uncoated bubbles can be sold for a lower price because of the fact that the firm makes at least 50% profit for all kind of coated bubbles according to Table D. Since the profit margin is very high, the firm would sacrifice some part of it and can both increase distributors earnings as well as decrease the product sale price. Moreover, Sealed Air should put aside some budget for advertisements to support brand image. It should differentiate itself from contenders while focusing on its products strength and quality. Moreover, they should expand their product line to meet all kind of customers need. 5. Given your plan, what will be the impact on Sealed Air s business model? Thanks to those implementations, Sealed Air could maintain its market leadership without harming the brand image. Besides, lowering sale prices would make the firm gain price conscious customers as well as increasing the distributor s profit margin would improve the firm and distributors relationship. If it is possible, the firm would distribute Astro s uncoated bubble products to abroad that Sealed Air would dominate European packaging market mostly served for the price conscious ... These reactions can be seen from just a little bit of reaction all the way up to a complete change of the entire sample tested. Some samples of those tested in this experiment which showed the chemical reaction were the baking soda/ammonia mixture, the Epson salt and baking soda mixture as well as the food coloring mixed with the baking soda and bleach. 2. Which reactions, if any, do you believe showed no evidence of chemical change? Justify your reasoning. (15 points) There was one combination that did not have any reaction when tested. Although it cannot be classified as a musical because all the characters are aware that they are singing, the music still plays an essential role in the development of the story. Many characters from almost all of the races Tolkien introduces us to compose a song at one point in the story. These songs integrate relevant details of lore, character development, and a glimpse into the world of Middle Earth. If a reader investigates further into the songs and poems of The Hobbit, they will find that Tolkien uses poems and songs to reveal important attributes and estab lish the history and motives of different species, such as dwarves, elves, and goblins. One of the first races the readers are introduced to are the dwarves. These short and squat creatures were once great miners and metal workers whose kingdom was taken by the dragon Smaug. One of the songs that the Dwarves sing in the first chapter, titled Over the Misty Moun tains Cold, has a somber and vengeful tone. It has a simple structure of only four lines per stan za and contains repetition of lines. The rhythm is reminiscent of the repetitive swing of pickaxes, reflecting the straightforward and sturdy nature of dwarves, and their connection to mining. His theories led to the study of the modern evolutionary theory of the world. Charles was a collector of plants, animals, and other specimens. From an early age, Charles had an immense love for nature, which started his career as a scientist. His trip to the Galapagos Islands forever changed his life and reputation. His two famous works were the Origin of Species and the Descent of Man. Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, England, in 1809. He was the son of Doctor Robert Darwin. Darwin also theorized that man is firmly rooted in the animal kingdom and that all animals are cousins of each other. Darwin found the most important findings at the Galapagos Islands. These islands were filled with exotic life. These creatures were prehistoric like, and not afraid of humans. This island was abundant with similar animals with slight variations. He found finches with small beaks used for insects and berries, and finches with much tougher beaks used for nuts. He determined that these creatures mutate in order to survive in their environment. This theory became known as survival of the fittest , or Natural Selection. Natural Selection is natural variations among a specie to insure the species reproductive success. During his voyage around the world, Darwin collected 1,500 animals, and 4,000 samples of skin and bones of his specimens. After his return, Darwin married his first cousin, Emma Wedgwood in 1839. A major factor in their marriage was that he could not believe in Christianity. Darwin was troubled with chills and vomiting. For the next 40 years of his life, Darwin s productivity was cutback. He was unable to work for more than 3 hours at a time. Out of his 10 children, only 7 survived to adulthood. He was a loving father to all of his children, and could not bear to see them suffering. Abusive Relationships In The Movie Yearly, referrals to state child protective services involve 6.6 million children, and around 3.2 million of those children are subject to an investigated report, (). This staggering statistic illustrates the reality of abuse in the real world. Abuse is a wide spanning idea, and it manages to manifest itself in several different forms. Throughout Damien Chazelle s 2014 film, Whiplash, the main character trudges through a psychologically abusive relationship with the film s antagonist. This situation is one final detail which is telling about the abusive relationship between the two. Fletcher uses this situation as a final instance of abuse against Andrew despite his intentions being seemingly genuine at their meeting in the music club. In this scene Fletcher is entirely willing to throw away all of the work that Andrew has put into his career up to this point, and that includes all of the teaching that Fletcher has abusively forced upon Andrew in an attempt to make him great. Some might argue that this is a way of Fletcher making Andrew prove himself, but this can t be the case if Fletcher is willing to put all of Andrew s progression on the line without any justification or reasonable opportunity for Andrew to succeed. However depth information is needed in many applications, for example in robotic vision, satellite imaging and target tracking. To extract depth information from images Stereo matching is used. The main aim of our project is to use stereo matching algorithms to plot the disparity map of segmented images which gives the depth information details. Particle Swarm Optimization and K means algorithms are used for image segmentation. Our main objective is to implement stereo matching algorithms on the segmented images, compare the results of K means and PSO on the basis of objective parameters such as PSNR, execution time, density of disparity map and compression ratio and perform subjective analysis of reconstructed 3 D images. The compared results show that the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm gives better 3 D reconstructed image. Keywords K means, PSNR, Particle Swarm Optimization, DSP, FPGA, ACO I. They teased him about eating dogs (Yang 32 33). This only because Timmy and the teacher assumed the worst of Jin s culture and associated him with it. These kids were bullying Jin because he was different. This happens everywhere from the workplace to the classroom and some people think that it is true so it is okay. In order to make them look and feel superior, the kids bullied Jin and made him feel left out and not worth anything. This also happens today, as people are constantly putting down others at work or in school due to their race, religion, or just by the way they look. Another example of stereotypes being used to show superiority is when Peter Grabinsky taking Jin s sandwich and promising to be his friend if he continued to give his lunch to him (Peter) (Yang 34). Peter then treats Jin as if he is a dog s favorite toy that will soon be forgotten and thrown away. This does happen, as Peter leaves to live with his father and leaves Jin. This example shows how Peter took advantage of the other children s disliking towards Jin due to what he looked like by taking his lunch and abusing him. Both of these show how students of mayflower elementary treat Jin as if he is useless and bully him in order to make them feel special. The kids saw that Jin was different and their brains seemed to associate him with eating dogs and coming from china. To sum it up, the children making fun of Jin for supposedly eating dogs just shows that the children are making him seem abnormal and a shame to society just because he is from a country that does things that are frowned upon in their ... • 29. Freudian Psychology In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies William Golding s novel, Lord of the Flies, focuses on a deserted island housing a small group of boys. Sigmund Freud, an Austrian Neurologist, developed psychoanalysis and coined many terms and ideas about the mind. Freudian psychology can be used to further understand Golding s characters, Jack, Ralph, and Piggy. Jack, consumed by his impulsive urge to hunt, acts as Freud s id. Ralph demonstrates the term ego as he logically attempts to resolve problems. Piggy, concerned with morality and the words of his aunt, behaves as the superego. Jack, representing the Freudian term id, acts impulsively to satisfy his basic needs with obsessive hunting. Once on the island, Jack focuses on hunting and finding food to eat and keep himself alive. Like the id, Jack longs to fulfill his basic, instinctual needs and receive short term satisfaction, rather than long term fulfillment. The freudian term id is the part of the mind which deals with innate impulses and primary processes without consideration. Instead of worrying himself with tasks that require thinking ahead, like making shelters or fire, Jack s only concern is hunting. After the idea of being rescued is brought to his attention, Jack had to think... before he could remember what rescue was. Rescue? Yes, of course! All the same, I d like to catch a pig first... Socrates posits to his friend Crito that the considerations you [Crito] raise about expense and reputation and bringing up children... are the concerns of the ordinary public, who think nothing of putting people to death, and would bring them back to life if they could, with equal indifference to reason (Crito 87). This indifference to reason that Socrates claims about the public amounts to an indictment of the leadership in Athens at the time. This excerpt shows how the princes who ruled Athens, who acted unjustly, who created the institutional climate of execution and fear (which Socrates is a victim of), transferred these ways of thinking and acting to the people of Athens. Socrates then paints a picture instead of how a prince should act, and what their role should be by describing his own work: I busied myself all the time on your behalf, going like a father or an elder brother to see each one of you privately, and urging you to set your thoughts on goodness (The Apology 57b). This encompasses his role as a citizen philosopher when he served in the Athenian government before the Spartans toppled the democratic regime. Essay On Pluripotent Cells For Toxicology 1.3.1 Pluripotent cells for toxicology (relevant cells relevant species) In 1981, ESCs were firstly developed from isolation of mouse blastocytes (PMID: 7242681), then human ESCs were derived in 1998 (PMID: 9804556). Subsequently, the derivation of human ESC line did not only raise critical ethical, religious, and political controversies, but also had scientific limitation. To circumvent these concerns, suggested the derivation of iPSCs which seemed to be a promising and great alternative though it was still controversial. Like ESCs, iPSCs have an ability to differentiate into various cell types and make unlimited copies of themselves. These drug metabolizing enzymes absorb and eliminate the drug through various routes of metabolic biotransformation. Phase I enzymes mainly catalyze the oxidation, reduction, and hydrolysis reactions, e.i. Cytochrome P450s (CYPs) are abundantly present in the liver and oxidize small molecules. Phase II enzymes catalyze mainly conjugation reactions that involve glucuronidation, sulfation, and acetylation. Unlike primary human hepatocytes, HLCs have the lower level of enzymatic activity and maturation of hepatocyte phenotype. Most of drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters are regulated by xenobiotic sensing nuclear receptors, CAR (constitutive androstane receptor) and PXR (pregnane X receptor) that are lowly expressed in HLCs (PMCID: PMC4761945). This may lead to lower expression of CYP activity than primary human hepatocytes as well as expression of transporters. For example, CYP3A4 is phase I enzymes that is an essential enzyme in the body and most abundantly expressed in the liver. However, surprisingly, in HLCs, the expression of CYP3A4 is not presented until the fourth stage of differentiation (PMID: PMC3619384). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It cannot be certain if this will be as easy and profitable as sharing music through a major label, but it is a way for an artist to keep their rights to their songs and work (Cayari, 2011). This solution is a very risky one, but it can be very successful as well. Becoming a YouTube star leads to more lucrative avenues such as TV appearances and movie deals (Curien Moreau, 2009). Whatever the outcome, the success and money will take longer than if the artist were given a contract. The other advantages to signing with Live Nation is that they are an Artist Nation; this means they believe in being a partner to the artist and assist in managing a variety of rights, fanbases, touring, and provide direct connection to fans. Unlike the 360 deal, Artist Nation does not confiscate publishing from the artist, which is a big revenue stream typically. In turn, this provides the artist with more income. The major areas that Live Nation profits from are: recorded music, merchandising, fan sites and ticketing, broadcast rights, sponsorship, marketing, and digital rights management. This may seem like a lot, but the percentage they take is about 6% in each of these areas. The biggest percentage Live Nation takes is from ticket sales because that is what they are known for and that is the money making part of the business for most artists. A disadvantage to Live Nation is they lack licensing and distribution like record labels however, sometimes a deal can be made through a record label just for distribution purposes. Although Live Nation lacks in certain areas that major labels have; they are making agreements with other companies such as, Ticketmaster, to help their artists as well as themselves to become successful. She is the only daughter of a very wealthy rancher. Esperanza is forced to leave her perfect life due to the murder of her father. She comes to California and becomes a peasant worker. This journey causes Esperanza to change in many different ways. The first way that Esperanza changes involves the change of her attitude. She is initially very selfish and quite arrogant. The transition that she goes through ends up causing her to be more of a kind person. She is also very generous to everyone around. Before she made this change, her selfishness was very obvious. This was evident when she was traveling to California with her mother. She did not want to be in the cheap section of the train where peasants travel. Esperanza goes on to say, We cannot travel in this car. (Munoz Ryan) She really does come off quite arrogant. Her selfishness is also very evident when she is getting on the train. Comparison Of Mountains Of Collioure By Andre Derain What I initially noticed when looking at the landscape painting Mountains of Collioure(1908), by Andre Derain was that the brushstroke is like of the impressionists, in which the strokes are short and thin, as well as seldom use of the color black. It is also highly contrasted in color, with many hues of various colors. I also notice that if it were painted by a kid it makes sense that the painting s colors would not match the natural colors of the actual subject matter within the painting. The mountains are off colored from the natural color using different tones and shades of orange and blue, while the trees are somewhat natural, with the use of darkened orange, and intermediate hues such as blue green, yellow green, and others. A legislation that was created to benefit and, as the advocates for the bill have said before, create the ideal world without abortion has succeed in undermining the health and safety of the individuals within the state. The benefits of this bill help little to no one as people are forced to conform based around moral ideals. Now here is where the issue becomes convoluted, because it surprisingly needs to be argued that the entire backbone to the abortion debate is grounded in moral high ground authority. Rick Perry claims that a baby can feel the pain of being killed and that we [the state] have an obligation to end that type of cruelty, (Smith, 2013) yet there is little to no evidence that a fetus can feel pain inside the womb as it lacks the developed nervous system to feel anything. Basic reflexes are available to be seen but where this pain comes in has no scientific evidence, and to base an entire law over the concept of pain and morality rather than actual irrefutable evidence is a stance best kept in ancient times that lacked modern science. • 45. How I Approach Program Development HOW WOULD I APPROACH PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT Upon reading and reflecting the insight and knowledge gained from this case study my three values for a program development and strategic analysis would be: a personal connection with the local population, minimizing hierarchy, and enforcing accountability and transparency in the organization. In terms of who I would work with, I favour the idea of working in a smaller organization. I would accept funds from multilateral organizations, not the government, and I would be working at the local level. Working in a smaller organization at the local level allows for greater accountability and a lesser chance of conflicting motives. As previously mentioned, smaller organizations may lead to exclusion. To prevent this I would be willing to work with like minded small organizations to divide the population. My main interest would be cultivating a relationship with the population. The personal connection with the population is probably the hardest task because we are not all as willing as Roy to immerse ourselves in the community. This relationship also relies on the population because they need to be willing to share and collaborate. This connection is the most important because it allows for the strongest trust and the greatest understanding of the needs in the area that we are working. It also allows us to ensure that our endeavours for the project align with our program. Having an extensive understanding the needs specific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Copyright Laws Should Be Legal Over two centuries ago Congress enacted the first copyright law with the intent that it would allow authors and creators of works to be the sole profiters and exclusive rights holders over their work for a specified time. After the specified period of time ended, the works would pass into ownership of the general public. Since the Copyright Act of 1790, copyright laws have continued to evolve and still struggle to keep up with an ever changing, fast paced society. With the use of the World Wide Web and the ease of downloading, copying, and file sharing increasing, copyright holders in the United States and those with vested interested in copyright laws are calling for changes to be made to copyright laws. In more recent years, additional concerns with online copyright laws have arisen, leading some to call for stricter laws, while others are calling for more lenient laws, and questions on the legality of the laws continue to surface. Overtime copyrights have come to hold a significant economic bearing on companies and the Chamber of Commerce estimated copyright infringement and counterfeiting costs copyright holders $135 billion each year, making the issue of copyright law on the forefront of a lot of corporation s agendas (Callander, S. Hoyt D. 2013). One of the more controversial copyright laws that deals with both foreign and domestic online activity is the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) that was proposed to the House of Representatives in 2011 (Carrier, M. 2013). ... • 47. The Character Of Diana In The New Woman George Meredith s 1885 Diana of the Crossways accounts the charming and witty titular heroine through her miserable marriage and the subsequent fallout. Although Diana is based on polemicist Caroline Norton s own disastrous marriage and divorce scandal, Meredith s protagonist borders between New Woman themes and Victorian feminine ideals, as Diana does not damningly deviates from the latter. In this essay, I will explore how Meredith has rendered the character of Diana palatable for upper and middle class Victorian readers by comparing her to her real life counterpart, to Thomas Hardy s portrayal of the New Woman and his issues with publication and how Meredith s characterization has created an archetypical character thereby allowing for critical and commercial success. The New Woman was a feminist ideal used to describe an independent, educated, and self reliant woman who typically would push the limits of the male dominated society. While Meredith has come to be remembered as a friend to women s plight for his sympathetic depiction of women in his novels, he has taken certain liberties to convey Diana as digestible as possible to his audience rather than realistically or particularly liberated. In a time in which women were expected to get married not that marriage was meant to satisfy their emotional or sexual needs Caroline Norton is often described as being pushed into marriage to George Norton. Caroline Norton and her sisters had come to be known as the Graces , an allusion to the Greek goddesses of charm, beauty, and human creativity, for their own beauty and accomplishments. For this, George Norton was willing to accept her without a dowry. Meredith s Diana abruptly enters her engagement after having her best friend s husband demonstrate sexual interest in her. In a letter to her best friend, she states, Signify your approval, for I have decided that it is the wisest thing a waif can do [marriage]. (Meredith 54) This slight narrative alteration presents Diana sympathetically to the audience as a woman seeking male protection, a very proper action a Victorian woman should make. The action seems sensible if not laudable, which will only garner sympathy for Diana later on once it is revealed what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Differences Between Pre Code And Pre-Code Movies The magazine article describes the stark contrast in the portrayal of female sexuality between pre Code and post Code movies. Pre Code movies are flagrantly sexual; although some contemporary film critics believe that women were simply embracing their sexual freedom through these pre code films, the marketing for many of these brazenly sexual films often included derisive comments from males, suggesting that the intent of overt sexuality in films was more crude. Post code films often used screenwriting strategies to stay within bounds of the Code. Denby argues that this censorship actually created a net benefit for women, who were given stronger personalities and more interesting plot lines instead of simply being sexual objects. The article suggests that censorship led to the inception of the screwball comedy genre, which was forced to create sex without sex. The article takes many examples from primary sources, mostly from films of the pre Code and post Code era. He utilizes these films to exemplify the difference in the portrayal of sexuality due to the Production Code. Secondary sources, including a book called Pre Code Hollywood by film historian Thomas Doherty, are used to analyze pre Code films, which did not follow political or moral patterns of the time. The article describes the relationship between censorship and screwball comedies as a causal one. Pre code films would brazenly use female sexuality to make more money through straightforward sex appeal, using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Case Study Of Chief Davis Executive Style After carefully reading the case studies, I concluded that Chief Davis executive style is in line with The Statesman and Chief Fortier s executive style is in line with The Administrator. The Statesman style stresses leadership and Chief Davis had a strong subordinate leadership in which he allowed their thoughts and ideas to be put into place (Cordner, 2016). The Statesman focuses on the department s interests by being in constant contact with the community as well as the government and gives them tasks in order to provide leadership within the community. Chief Davis focused on building support from outside of the agency by becoming transparent with the community and by allowing them to see what decisions were being made. Chief Davis had strong ties to the local businesses and as a result, they heavily supported the Lowell Police Department. A strong indicator that the LPD had the backing of their community was that a fundraiser led by a local businessman to raise some $200,000 to buy the department s mobile precinct (Cordner, 2016, p. 488). Chief Davis also had the strong support from Senator Paul Tsongas, who was a resident of Lowell and worked well with the city government. By being involved in the local government as well as the university and businesses in Lowell, Chief Davis was extremely successful in getting community and monetary support for his department (Cordner, 2016). Chief Davis was also successful in convincing the residents in the community to build a new precinct in the crime riddled Cambodian neighborhood. This was largely done because he had the trust and support of the community as well as seeking the help and advice from outside of the department in Linda Hart. Chief Davis even was able to win over one of his non supporters by hiring Cambodian and Latino officers to help close the communication gap between the police department and the minority communities. The Statesman can often have a negative impact on a department because the department members feel that he or she loses touch of who they are representing, but Chief Davis never lost the trust of his personnel and built a supporting coalition inside as well as outside of the department.
