Joel Research Paper
Joel is the second of 12 Minor Prophets in the Old Testament of the Bible. He is placed between the
prophets Hosea and Amos; this information can be used later in determining the time in which his
book was written. The book of Joel is divided into four chapters. In the book there is no true
understanding about Joel himself, except his name and his father s name. The theme of the Book of
Joel is that salvation will come to Judah and Jerusalem only when the people turn to Yahweh. The
prophet Joel plays a very significant role in the Bible and also has a message of great importance to
deliver to the people of Yahweh. The Book of Joel in the Bible stressed four main points. Joel wanted
to warn the people of Judah that the coming of the Lord was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is known that his name signifies Jehovah is God . Joel always had an original approach when he
faced the problems in his time. Because of Joel s duty as a preacher of repentance he takes high
nobility among the twelve prophets. It is also stated that he is the son of Pethuel. Like Hosea, he [Joel]
distinguished himself from others of the same name, by the mention of his unknown father (Pusey
143). It can also be possible that Joel was an inhabitant of Judah, or even a citizen of Jerusalem. This
can be proven by the constant repetition of the words Zion and children of Zion (2: I, 23), and also of
Judah and Jerusalem (3: I, 6). Many scholars believe that Joel was also a priest because of his wide
range of knowledge of the Temple and also of the worship programs. It is concluded from the works
that Joel has written that he was a very literate person or according to John Watts, a literary prophecy
that is, prophecy composed to be read . This can be seen through Joel s extensive prophetic writing
and also in his poetic and descriptive writings. The best example is seen in the writings of the Locust
plague (2:3 11) and a drought (1:15 20). Although there are many diverse opinions of when Joel lived
or who he was, Yates gives the best overview of whom he was. I found Joel to be a very interesting
prophet he in way he reminds me of my late grandfather, Daniel Hugh Derrick

The Donald Trump Effect
This year holds one of the biggest action event in eight years and it s the election. A new change that
the whole USA sees to act on. There carried lots of bad ideas from one person running for president.
That person is Donald Trump that makes the other feel bad. First of all, the way that Trump effect this
election count acts as the number one goal of this election. CNN talked about how bad the world felt
about Trump and his wrong way of thinking. Another idea that the effect that the election felt indeed a
broken mind. Furthermore, Fox has made a place of the news for what Tramp actions during the day.

that affected this time which was Trump as I talk about in the other paragraph. Trump worded harsh
words to the latinos around america. The one of hundreds of things that he said in the article 9
outrageous when mexico sends its people they re not sending their best . There came to include more
ideas that Trump said like i will make Mexico pay how the wall. The effect in the election was more in
words. Quora said Trump said They re bringing drugs. They re bringing crime. They re rapists. And
some, I assume, are good people . There been people like Andrew Mckenzie that had a abondantes
amount of word about Trump When Mexico sends its people Mexico isn t sending anybody. That s a
huge falsehood. The reality is, individuals in Mexico are deciding, based on their own free will and
ambition, to move to a completely different country he said. He also said Actually, no. Setting aside
the fact that Mexico isn t sending anyone, the people who come here often are the best . In fact, the
term brain drain describes precisely this kind of scenario he add. When looking at people that are

Peer Pressure In Teenage Movies
Bullying and peer pressure are issues that most every student in school has to deal with. Because this
is such a pertinent issue, movies are made based on these problems. This is the teen genre. Movies
from this genre are from a teenagers point of view so they can relate to them. Heathers is a dark teen
movie where the bullies are killed off in an attempt to clean out the school. Peer pressure and bullying
are a necessary part of the teen genre because of how big a part it takes in teen society.
Almost every film genre is based around groups of people who exist in real life. People who are ten
through nineteen make up over one tenth of the earth s population. This creates a demand for films
based upon the issues and hardships they go through. Just like how adults can relate to movies about
people barely making enough money to pay bills or working in a boring office. Who else would be the
antagonist in a teen movie except for bullies or those who peer pressure kids? These seem to be the
biggest problems teenagers face and that is why it is always the issue in teen movies.
Heathers starts off with a group of female teen bullies practically running a school. One of them,
Veronica Sawyer, regrets joining the group because of what she is now involved in. Heather Chandler,
the leader, peer pressures Veronica, who is evidently a great calligraphist, into forging notes to appear
to be from other people. She then uses these notes to make people think someone else wrote them,

Secret Societies
Today in the US secret societies are becoming a fascinating topic, and the US seems to be threatened
by them. Major Political figures and now even Musical entertainers are being rumored to be in some
of these secret societies. But what are they all really about? What is their history? What are their
purposes and goals, and achievements? Do they have any deeper meaning to what is revealed? Many
would like to know just how these are run, and soon bring it all to light. Strange allegories about death
and resurrection, mysterious astrological symbols and bizarre rituals are just some of the trimmings of
secret societies. These sects, cults, brotherhoods sisterhoods, and orders have thrilled powerful
curiosity for as long at they have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next and most important step is to make contact with the organization of your choice. Making
contact with a secret society may be the most difficult part of the process. The Internet is a great place
to start. If you can find a member who has identified himself, gently inquire about joining. You will
most likely need to develop a relationship with any member you meet before they will enlighten you
about any details about their group. In addition, look for any information on places or meeting spots in
your area. Masonic temples are often well established, and you may be able to find locations where
other secret societies meet. If you show up and speak with the member at the door, you may be able to
find out what you need to do to join. There is a list of people who are associated with these secret
societies. I could name almost over one thousand prominent people in government, politics, and
entertainment that are affiliated with these societies. Previous Presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush
Senior, and George Bush Junior, and Senator John Kerry were all members of the Collegiate
Organization Skull and Bones founded at Yale University. There also have been rumors that some
entertainers in the industry of music and acting are incorporated with these societies. These rumors
have stated that rapper Jay Z is affiliated with the Masons and also the Illuminati. Commentators have

Essay on The Danger of Subliminal Advertising
In modern society, advertisements and the media bombard Americans every single day. Television
advertisements, movies, radio, and even Spam mail have become a daily part of the lives of many
citizens. However, most people do not realize the sinister methods advertisers and corporations
employ with the media in order to obtain a profit. The use of subliminal and negative advertising has
increased immensely and shows no plan of stopping anytime soon. This dangerous ploy manipulates
the public and causes individuals to subconsciously crave a product or service. It is integral that
society understands the jeopardy of this malicious form of propaganda and begins to take a stand
against it for the sake of citizens privacy. Advertisers have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some groups, such as the California based Center for Cognitive Liberty and Ethics (CCLE), believes
that current advertising methods and neuromarketing are methods to express thoughts ( Marketing s
Mind Control ). In addition, Gemma Calvert, co founder of Neurosense, a group pioneering the use of
MRI technology in market research, believe that neuromarketing simply improves upon advertising
and poses no major threat ( Marketing s Mind Control ). But if these small changes are not monitored,
the situation will escalate until media openly dictates the thoughts of people. Consequently, the
propaganda must be checked to prevent such a scenario. In some cases, controversial and invasive
media can take the form of what is considered art, such as a film or play (Sardar 4). Individuals will
claim that the work is a form of free speech even if it contains subliminal messaging. The government
does not approve of subliminal messaging that takes place in such outlets, as the FTC Act Section Five
prohibits unfair or deceptive acts or practices in interstate commerce (Lechnar). Unfortunately, it is
virtually impossible to act upon this law because individuals responsible for the piece will deny that
subliminal messages are present, making it more difficult for the government to prevent subliminal
messaging. Even if one is trying to make a point, he or she should

Essay on Should the United States School Schedule Be...
The Board of Education wants to add hours to the school schedule. The problem proposed is American
student test scores are falling behind counties in Europe and Asia. To see how more time in school will
affect students and test scores, schools in Iowa, North Carolina, and California have increased the time
some students spend in class. Some parents and faculty members think extending the school year into
the summer could help American students compete academically with other countries, but the school
year should not be extended because summer is needed for academic respite, the extension will cost
millions, and there is not enough evidence to say that it can boost academic achievement.
Ideally, extending the school schedule into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Massachusetts experiment proves that the extension can produce more money for schools. Even
though some might think the extension brings in more money, the reality is extending the school
schedule cost millions and not many states have the resources to fund it. In fact in the article Schools

Florida abandoned its experiment with a longer school day years ago (King). King s statement proves
that extensions are sometimes too costly to go into action. Furthermore, many states are not financially
inclined to provide their schools with the resources needed for the extension.
The pilot project schools provide evidence that an expanded school schedule can possibly contribution
to higher test score. Some school superintendents are proposing that US schools make more class time
mandatory. According to King s Schools Give Extended Class Time a Longer Look, They ve proposed
gradually extending the current school year in the state by 25 more days, bringing it more in line with
many European and Asian nations (King). Logically extending the US school hours to make them

Essay on American Indians
amp;#8220; amp;#8217;Indians amp;#8217;: Textualism, Morality, and the Problem of History ;, an
essay written by Jane Tompkins, a professor of English at Duke University, outlines Tompkins
dissatisfaction on how American Indians are portrayed throughout history. As children, we are taught
that in amp;#8220;1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue ;, and that Peter Minuet bought all of
Manhattan Island from the Indians for only twenty four dollars worth of trinkets. In high school, we
were taught that in World War II, the Germans were all heartless savages, and that the best course of
action to end the war was to use the atomic bomb on Japan. It is seen that amp;#8220;the victor writes

Tompkins began her research of the misrepresentation of American Indians with Perry Miller
amp;#8217;s book Errand into the Wilderness. In his book, Miller writes, amp;#8220;the massive
narrative of the movement of European culture into the vacant wilderness of America. ; This passage
from Miller amp;#8217;s book provokes a shocking response from Tompkins. Tompkins is shocked
that Miller referred to America amp;#8217;s wilderness as amp;#8220;vacant. ; It is obvious that upon
the arrival of European settlers to America, the settlers encountered the Indians at some point in time.
Thus, America amp;#8217;s wilderness wasn amp;#8217;t amp;#8220;vacant. ; Miller fails to observe
the presence of the Indians. From his own personal experiences with the vast wilderness in Africa,
Miller correlates that experience to the experiences that the settlers must have had when they arrived
in America. It is clear that Miller amp;#8217;s own experiences have clouded his ability to give an
unbiased and totally truthful account of history. amp;#8220; amp;#8230; What is invisible to the
historian in his own historical moment remains invisible when he turns his gaze to the past, ;
(Tompkins, 412).

Recent studies highlighted the impact of skin microbiota on AD because microbiota has been revealed
to be involved both in the homeostasis and pathogenic conditions of the skin (Naik et al., 2012). In AD
patients, temporal dybiosis dominated by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) during disease flares was

Evaluation Of A Separate Dialogues
Introduction
This paper focuses on the evaluation of three separate dialogues. Each dialogue contains two
characters. The first character gives an argument while the second character provides a response. The
second character is then identified as to whether or not their response meets the challenge of
argument. Subsequently, an explanation will be included in order to fully clarify the reasoning that is
given. Furthermore, an analysis of all the characters of each dialogue will be included. Terminology
studied from this semester such as the ARG conditions and various forms of fallacies will be used in
order to support the suggested analysis (Govier 87). The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate
knowledge and understanding developed from Critical Thinking I.
Dialogue 1 Jim and Roger
In this dialogue, character two does not meet the challenge of argument. Character two partially denies
the claims and premises made by character one, but only provides personal beliefs as a
counterargument. Character two explains their thoughts on the United States being the one country
capable of pressuring both parties as a mediator and what the most essential quality a mediator must
have. Character one s argument is that mediators should be completely neutral between two parties in
dispute. Character one uses a sub argument explaining the unfairness of the event in which the
mediator is in favor of either side of the party beforehand. Character two provides a partial response

Ideas are scary G.E commercial
General Electric in this ad demonstrates the idea that any human from the moment of birth to death,

advertisement shows us that when an idea is born it is immature, messy and ugly as it threatens what
is already known but when it is paid more attention and when it is edited and embellished in the right
way, it can turn into a big invention that can be unique and very successful at the same time. GE has

creature. He is huge, hairy, frightened and sad, dejectedly wandering the streets of a big city. He gets

dirty alley. As referenced in the ad, the narrator says, Ideas are natural born enemy of the way things
are. The narrator explains the insecurity that people get when something different shows up in our
regular lives. Finally, after wandering around the big city, the creature walks in the GE office, he is
taken in by a kind hearted employee and embraced by the rest of GE s scary idea loving staff. He is

African American Literature Reflection Paper
Before starting this class, African American Literature, I wasn t too sure what to expect. I had never
taken an AFAS class before but I had heard great things from my friends so I decided to take one.
Professor Carter was an amazing professor and always sounded to extremely passionate and excited
during class which I found very admirable. The way he spoke about the different aspects of the class
and the different pieces of writing was very intriguing and always held my attention in class. We read
a variety of African American literature in this class which included novels, poems, and short stories
and each and every one of them related perfectly to what we were talking about during that time in
class. We studied different authors and their writing styles, as well as different eras including the
Harlem Renaissance.
The thing that set this class apart from the rest was the use of multimedia in the class. This included
the weekly voice threads, the live videos each class period, and the multimedia projects throughout the
semester. This was my favorite part of the class. I loved how the professor didn t just want us to
express our opinions of the literature in projects, but he wanted us to express our opinions in the most
creative ways. We were assigned weekly voice threads which allowed us to answer several questions
based off of our own opinions of the readings we read for class. Personally, I loved this because I felt
like I could proudly share what I felt about the reading

Compare And Contrast Culture And American Culture
Culture is a very vital part of the world as we know it today. There are very many different cultures all
around the world. In the USA, we have a mix of all the different cultures and and family values. From
the original Native Americans that inhabited America to the Middle Eastern people in Afghanistan.
These people groups have brought their language, food, values, and customs with them.
There are lots of different types of families in today s American society. Mine is a little bit weird. My
parents got divorced when I was about 5 years old. My Dad re married when I was about 8 and then
got divorced again. My mom remarried when I was around 11 years old. My dad re married again
around the same time. It seems like in today s society that more and more families are becoming split
households. That is the culture difference between the USA and other countries. In the earlier years of
the United States, many people looked down on divorce. Divorce was like a curse word to them back
then.

The Greatest Philosophers Of History
How can one truly expect to speculate through wild and whirling words the overwhelming complexity
that is human nature? It is undoubtedly one of the more daunting tasks that one can choose to take on,
and yet it is far from unprecedented. As human beings, we are fascinated by our own thoughts and
tendencies, and the manner in which we conduct ourselves during our short time on earth. It is a topic
that has never ceased to fascinate us, for as many aspects of it that remain unchanging throughout the
centuries, there are just as many that seem incapable of remaining consistent. Some of the greatest
philosophers of history dedicated their lives to this enigma of humanity, and through their minds and
words have seen that human nature is a product of both nature itself and the imperative nurturing of
other human beings; and that while it may be one of the most complicated notions we will ever face,
there are innate truths that cannot be contravened. Perhaps one of the most influential discussions of
humanity to have ever taken place was that of Plato s city, a hypothetical place of dwelling meant to
be a philosophical speculation of the mannerisms of human beings as Plato and his fellows saw them
to be. As a great philosopher, Plato knew that human beings are naturally social beings, and need
companionship like their bodies need food and water. Humans congregate into groups it is what
separates them from their animalistic instincts, and holds them above such. What is more,

The Problem Of Reckless Driving
In the United States, Reckless driving is the number one cause of teenage death in the nation. Reckless
driving can be classified as anything from speeding and swerving, to purposely trying to run someone
over, or hurt them while driving. In America, there are countless organizations calling to help end the
high death rate in teenagers that reckless driving takes. People such as Parents, Drivers Education
Instructors and even state legislators have realized the problem and are seeking reform. In 2011 alone
2,650 teens between the ages of 16 19 were killed due to reckless driving. (CDC) Reckless driving is a
death that is very preventable, with proper education and warning. As well as problem that is not taken
seriously by the juvenile s committing the act. Most juveniles don t worry what so ever about dying in
a car crash because they think that it won t happen to them. Under Reckless Driving, in Green Bay,
speeding, not paying attention and lack of caring are three of the biggest issues with teen drivers and
juveniles. In Wisconsin, Reckless driving is classified under state statute 346.62 as causing bodily

The Success Of Deng Xiao Ping s Impact On China
(Slide 1) From 1981 until the death of Deng Xiao Ping and the termination of Deng Era in 1997, Deng
Xiao Ping was the paramount leader of the People s Republic of China after Mao Zedong s death in
1976. (Slide 2) The nature of Deng Xiao Ping and the period of the Deng Era came to revolutionise
China immensely and had the desire for progress and reform at any cost. Civil rights, Economic
reforms and International relations under Deng Era can be considered to undermine the costs and
benefits of Deng Xiaoping s modernisation of China. To seek further information, a major focus
questions was built, which is, to what extent, did Deng Xiao Ping have a positive impact on China
internally, economically and internationally after 1997? A hypothesis is created to answer the question,
that Deng Xiao Ping had a detrimental impact because he dismissed civil rights in China internally,
economically and internationally after 1997. Furthermore, the costs of China s reform and progress
had a greater role than the benefits during the Deng Era. Therefore, the effects of the Deng Era,

The Effects Of Climate Change On The Country
Introduction
Climate change is one of the biggest issues in the world currently. Carbon emissions since the start of
the industrial revolution have caused the CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere to increase, thus
causing temperatures to rise and the climate to change. These changes in climate are going to have
differing effects according to the country. In this essay, the impacts of climate change and possible
adaptions to it will be explored for the countries Austria and Guatemala.
Background info
Austria is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is located around 47 degrees north of the equator
and is 83,871 sq km. Austria has a temperate climate with cold winters where rain is frequent and a
moderate summer with occasional showers. The west and south of the country is a mountainous
region, whilst the east and north are mostly flat plains. In 2015 Austria had a GDP of $404.3 billion,
with 4% of the population living below the poverty line. Austria s main exports are machinery and
equipment, cars, oil and gas and chemicals. (ref CIA)
Guatemala is a coastal country in Central America. It is around 16 degrees north of the equator and
around 108,889 sq km. Guatemala has a tropical climate which is hot and humid in low lying areas
and cooler in higher altitudes. Guatemala in mostly a mountainous country, but with narrow flat plains
surrounding the coast. In 2015 Guatemala had a GDP of $125.9 billion, with 59.3% of the population
living below the poverty line. The main

Virginia Shea s The Core Rules Of Netiquette
The most salient aspect of Virginia Shea s The Core Rules of Netiquette is empathy. We often dismiss
the notion that there are real people behind their computers, whether inadvertently or not. By
remembering that we are communicating with other people online, we can more easily follow the
rules basic netiquitte. Empathy ties into The Golden Rule, or as Shea defines it, Do unto others as you
d have others do unto you, and can itself basically explain all ten rules listed. By simply treating
others like you d want them to treat yourself, you would most likely adhere to the same standards of
behavior online that you d follow in real life, respect other people s time and bandwidth, share expert
knowledge, respect other people s privacy, forgive other people s mistakes, and not abuse your
power...which is most of netiquette. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like most people who surf the internet, I would get into the occasional flame war but haven t really
thought of its effect unto others until reading this article. I d always thought of it as a catch 22 between
me and the person I was berating...but now I can see how others could also affected. I d also
reavaluated how I make myself appear online. Occasionally, I ll post content on my Facebook, Twitter,
or Instagram with the idea of a veil...that I could act with relative freedom and limited risk, and that
my online behavior could not affect me in my offline life, but now I can more clearly see the
importance of making myself look good online. By typing and posting leggibly and respectfully, I can

Critical Review of Meta Analysis
A Critical Review of Meta Analysis
Abstract
Meta analysis has been much debated and criticized since its creation, and it has been argued that
systematic reviews are superior. The present study examined the reverse idea that meta analysis is the
superior method. A literature search was conducted of meta analysis studies for psychotherapy within
the PsycINFO database. The resulting studies were further examined and classified as either primary
articles or secondary articles. Primary articles were further examined for secondary articles associated
with them. It was found that there was some criticism within the literature. The results were compared
to a study of systematic review literature conducted at the same time. The ... Show more content on

As with any other process, meta analysis has several disadvantages or weaknesses. It s been argued,
for example, that one of the weaknesses of meta analysis is associated with the fact that it requires a
great amount of effort and expertise, and that currently there is a major drawback in the research
community of those who conduct them (Berkeljon Baldwin, 2009). Lipsey Wilson (2001) also argued
that meta analysis often loses a lot of valuable qualitative data (for example, the social context of the
study) because it aggregates only quantitative data. It is further argued that the exclusion of such data
may sometimes interfere with the process of arriving at the right conclusion (Lipsey Wilson, 2001).
Other authors also argue that meta analysis includes a mix of different studies in a single review which
could be very problematic (Berkeljon Baldwin, 2009). For example, Glass, McGraw Smith (1981)
referred to this as the apples and oranges problem, arguing that different treatments and measures are
given the same weight, when, in fact, they are not always the same. This, Glass, McGraw, and Smith
claimed, can result in a misrepresentation of the measures used in each study, as well as their level of
contribution to the review, which would skew the results. Lastly, the weaknesses of meta analysis have
been noted by others to stem from the fact that if poor quality studies or

Negative Impacts and Harm of Drinking Alcohol Essay

Also for many people, alcohol provides a wonderful function, people drink alcohol to temporarily
relieve stress.(Lin, 2013). Alcohol related crashes kills someone in the U.S. every 22 minutes. At any
minute, one of 50 drivers on the road is drunk and every weekend night, one out of 10 is drunk.(Kypri,
1994). This quote means In United State, every 22 minutes there was a person killed by car accident
involving alcohol. One of 50 drivers on the road was drunk at any minute; one of 10 is drunk in
weekend night. The quote shows the number of traffic fatalities annually related to alcohol, do you
realized what does those numbers truly represented? Those are the examples of drunk drive that got
people killed in the life. Underage drinking is a leading contributor to death from injuries, which are
the main cause of death for people under age 21. Annually, about 5,000 people under age 21 die from
alcohol related injuries involving underage drinking.( Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,

Little Miss Sunshine Analysis
Little Miss Sunshine Essay
Maia Falkner
Little Miss Sunshine , is a film directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. This film is about a girl
named Olive (played by Abigail Breslin) and her family, on their physical and emotional journey to a
beauty pageant in California. In the film Little Miss Sunshine the important settings that helped me
understand an idea was, backstage the beauty pageant, onstage the beauty pageant and a contrasting
scene on the wharf. These three scenes helped me understand the idea of society s unrealistic false
standards and the intense judgement of those that fall beneath these standards. The settings backstage
and on stage the beauty pageant portray the idea that in order to obtain beauty , extreme lengths must
be taken. In this setting young girls are stripped of their identity and objectified. The falseness of the
makeup and spray tan automatically creates an air of self doubt and pressure to reach this unreachable
perception of beauty . The setting on the wharf contrasts with the falseness of the pageant and exposes
the idea that judgement is all throughout life and somewhat inescapable, that essentially life is one big
beauty contest.
The first setting that portrays the idea of society s unrealistic standards is backstage at the Little Miss
Sunshine beauty pageant. This setting portrays this idea by showing us an environment in which the
falseness is almost overbearing. The hotel in which the pageant takes place is filled with young girls
being pampered by their mothers, spray tan, absurd amounts of makeup and over the top costumes.
These all represent this terribly false perception of beauty and objectify these young girls. A
downward, mid shot of a girl getting her legs spray tanned by her mother describes the distorted
reality of this situation. The girl s face is out of the shot which is objectifying her and taking away her
the identity. This is followed by a wide shot of Olive and Sheryl walking through the room showing
products and clothes. In this shot, we see a huge contrast between the materialistic setting and the
naturalness of Sheryl and Olive with their ordinary clothes, natural hair, and pale skin. The mise en
scene of the hotel lobby reinforces the

The Story Of W. E. B. Dubois
People of the Southern States of America, we are facing an epidemic of bigotry and a relentless wave
of cruelty toward and undeserving group of people. There seems to be no hope for the African victims
of the blatant profiling and hate. However, I believe they can find refuge and peace under the wings of
the prominent leader, W.E.B DuBois. His vision of the future America is a strong, united, and
accepting country. With his famous quote, The cost of liberty is less than the price of repression. I am
pleased to say that the heart of the South should no longer rest in the hands of white supremacists that
seek distance and separation of the white and Negro communities. Take Booker T. Washington for
example, his quote In all things that

Hollywood Film Industry s Role In The Bush Administration
This study intends to determine whether the Hollywood film industry and the American media have
played a role in the Bush administration s War on Terror that was declared following the 9/11 2001
attacks, by influencing, informing or misinforming, and by encouraging or condemning it. Hypotheses
are that the magnitude of the terrorist attacks was such that the American mass media were pressured
by strong feelings of patriotism and eager to serve national interest , at the risk of failing to cover
news objectively and thoroughly, and that, consequently, the American public let the Bush
administration carry out a disastrous foreign policy in the Middle East. The study has shown that these
hypotheses are well founded, and demonstrates that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is believed that both are powerful forms of entertainment as well as sources of information for a
broad range of Americans, of different ages and backgrounds. For this reason, the mass media, which
include movies, may have been used as tools by the American government and military to sell a war
that at first provoked mixed reactions, and which, in addition was carried out for illegitimate reasons,
though they were initially concealed from the public. This topic is particularly interesting as it is about
a country that is regarded as the world s top superpower of this era, at least militarily speaking, and
that defines itself as the world s first and oldest democracy. This is, however, a disputable claim,
especially as it is believed that in order to justify their actions and War on Terror policies, the U.S.
military and government made a great use of misinformation, lie and framing, that is, methods of
propaganda, to the detriment of Americans themselves and of the rest of the world. Furthermore, the
U.S. foreign policy has resulted in the death of millions of civilians in the Middle East, in the
destruction of rather stable, although unquestionably totalitarian societies, and in a chaotic and
concerning socio economic situation in the Middle East, beyond Iraq and Afghanistan. What is more,
it has been established that the Bush administration s decision to invade the Middle East for debatable
reasons has resulted in the rise of anti Americanism and anti Western feelings, and greatly contributed
to radicalisation, as the rising terrorist organization Islamic State has

Cambridge CELTA assignment: Focus on the learner Part A My student s name is Corrado, he s 42
years old and his L1 is italian. He is an entrepreneur. In fact, he owns a bar where he works with two
friends. However, he doesn t need English at work as I thought. He loves to travel and that s the main
reason for him to learn English: he s been to London many times and he would like to travel to the US
as well and also he likes to organize his own trips so he needs English also to book hotels and flights
online. He s studied English only in school and (he says) with a terrible teacher who gave him no
motivation. When he was travelling, he was always with friends who knew English very well so he
was not led to try to talk himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the vocabulary he chooses is spelled correctly and most of the times it s appropriate for the
context. Listening: he s very good with gist comprehension, and when he doesn t understand he s able
to ask to repeat or to say something slower. That probably comes from his ability to communicate
effectively and from the habit of travelling. However, again when it comes to specific use of tenses
(such as present continuous used for planned future) he gets lost. Reading: I ve observed him in class
and he seems to not like particularly reading tasks, when he s doing pair work he starts making up
jokes and gets easily distracted. But then when he arrives at the activity after the reading he enjoys it
more and starts concentrate. Generally speaking with Corrado we have to consider that he s an
elementary student and he makes many mistakes because he tries to use complicated structures for his
level such as present perfect and relative clauses. I think the best thing about Corrado is that he s very
enthusiastic and he s a natural leader in the group so when he likes an activity (which most of the
times he does exept maybe for reading) he s able to draw the whole class. That s why I think me and
my colleagues tend to choose him as our volounteer for demontrations, because he s not afraid of
making a fool of himself and on the contrary he s happy to laugh

Media Violence For The Canadian Radio Television And...
For a child, almost any type of conflict, such as a heated discussion on a radio talk show or between
two experts during a newscast, may seem as aggressive as two comic book characters throwing anvils.
As of yet, we do not have a clear explanation of what causes violence and aggression in our youth,
whether we analyze media content or explore the everyday aggressive behavior that may cause violent
behavior, Individual studies define these notions in a lot of different ways; Thus, the rules of the game
are constantly changing for those who try to analyze the situation as a whole. The difficulty in
quantifying aggression and violence in ways that make it almost impossible to answer the following
question: Does violence in the media cause people to commit acts of violence?
In 1994, Andrea Martinez of the University of Ottawa conducted a thorough review of the scientific
literature on media violence for the Canadian Radio television and Telecommunications Commission
(CRTC). She concluded that: the lack of consensus is caused by three gray areas in this type of
research . These gray areas still apply today.
First, it is very difficult to define and measure violence in the media. Some experts who follow
violence in television programs, such as the late George Gerbner, defined violence as the act (or
threat) of hurting or killing another person, regardless of the method used or the surrounding context.
As such, Mr. Gerber included cartoon violence in his data set. But

her father was gone and her mother had little or no education in order to help support them. My great
grandmother worked in a local supermarket to provide food for them. Clothes were something that she

Industrial Revolution Good Or Bad
Introduction: Have you ever wondered how all of our manufacturing systems and products and
inventions came to be? Well if you look back in history, you will see that the true beginning of
manufacturing began around the 18th to 19th centuries, during a period called the Industrial
Revolution. The Industrial Revolution first began in Britain, and then it started to spread. Factories,
inventions and immigration bloomed in America. More inventions and machines were made and that
help mass produce goods. Factories brought a bunch of workers in a area to operate and produce
goods. And because of the amount of jobs available, more immigrants came to America. This cause
increase in production of products and population, in other words the Industrial Revolution. The
Industrial Revolution was a time of a new beginning, new inventions and innovation, and legacies ...

Many inventions helped improve work and production. Inventions such as the flying shuttle invented
and patented by John Kay, helped the weavers weave more cloth (The Industrial Revolution 8). As
more products were being made, more money was also being made. To make more products faster at
factories, more workers were being hired. But they had to work in really bad conditions such as bad
lighting, tight spaces, etc. So some workers went on strike against the factory. In England this was
bad, because more people were demand more products to be made (historyworld.net 1). The factory
owners needed new workers fast, and the answer was immigrants. More and more immigrants came to
the U.S. because of the religious freedom and jobs opportunities, and the factory hired the immigrants
to replace the workers that quit, since they knew that immigrants were less likely go on strike (The
Industrial Revolution 30). The increase in factories and workers, increased the amount of products that

Effects of Rising Technology
Effects of Rising Technology
In the twenty first century, evolution and constant use of technology have greatly impacted humans,
and their ways to approaching media. Many people believe that technology has improved the quality
of life of the people at a great depth, while others see it as a force that has escaped from human
control. Modern technology such as Internet, may help people solve problems or gather information
faster than an ordinary human being is capable of. At the same time, it can also destroy one s social
life and interactions with humans if proper balance is not maintained. While people s thoughts
regarding the two sides are intriguing, the question is, are the negative effects gradually outnumbering

While both authors present some of the positive effects of technology, as mentioned above, to us, each
of them addresses different issues on how exactly uses of technology and technological improvements
negatively impact human life. As people become addicted to the valuable web efficiency, it turns out
that the Internet serves to be quite harmful towards human cognition in such that it diminishes the
capacity of human concentration and contemplation. As Carr says in Is Google Making Us Stupid ,
media supply the stuff of thought, but they also shape the process of thought (Carr 2). In other words,
Internet is controlling and changing the way we think or consume information and thus, flattering our
own intelligence into artificial intelligence (Carr 8). People nowadays are so used to the information
provided by the Internet that they do not rely on their own knowledge or think on their own like they
used to prior to the advent of Internet. An instance that reflects this idea of self manipulation is shown
in Carr s own statement, Once I was a scuba diver in the sea of words. Now I zip along the surface
like a guy on a Jet Ski (Carr 2). Even though Carr does not go onto to say that he is becoming
vacuous, he believes that his mind is changing due to spending so much time on the web over the last
several years. Before, he was very much engaged

Comparing The National Council Of Teachers Of Mathematics...
This paper serves to compare the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards for
Secondary Mathematics (NCTM), Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and Virginia s Standards of
Learning (VSOL). The comparison will include similarities and differences among the three
documents as well as discuss their strengths and weaknesses. Lastly, a combined set of standards will
be developed and presented, encompassing the strengths of the various standards. The first similarity
between the three documents would be the structure of the standards. Each document varies in the
number of standards, but all are separated through domains of mathematical learning. For example,
out of the fourteen NCTM Curriculum Standards for Secondary Mathematics, five standards detail the
process of learning mathematics. These standards include Mathematics as Problem Solving,
Mathematics as Communication, Mathematics as Reasoning, Mathematical Connections, and
Mathematical Structures. Similarly, Common Core State Standards provide the state of Alabama with
Mathematical Practice Standards which parallel with similar methods of learning mathematics. Within
the Virginia Standards of Learning are embedded similar languages describing mathematical learning.
There are several parallel thoughts concerning the mathematical learning process. NCTM Standard 1:
Mathematics as Problem Solving outlines the expectations for students to refine their method of
problem solving by investigation and integration of

1. BP made several mistakes over the time period following the Gulf Oil Spill. The early comments by
CEO Tony Hayward that the environmental impacts of the spill were very, very modest was the initial
mistake. This was followed by the embarrassing fact that BP digitally altered some of the photos of
the spill operation on the company website. I think they should have been honest with the public. We
all know they messed up, so it is important to be transparent. When crises like this happen it usually
calls for a change in top management. The BP chief executive at the time became a lightning rod for

The communities in the Gulf of Mexico should ve been the primary concerns for BP. This spill
threatened the livelihoods of thousands of fishermen and led to less traffic for hotel owners in the
southeast with tar balls washing up on beaches. In addition BP should ve been concerned the overall
reception from the United States. Many people were turned off from buying BP strictly by how they
handled the Gulf Oil Spill. Lastly, BP should be less concerned with their pending lawsuits. They can
remain optimistic that many people will apply for compensation rather than go to court. BP s
shareholders are another less important concern. BP canceled the company divided to pledge $20
billion in aid to those affected by the spill.
3. In BP s PR campaign they tried to state that there was very little oil was leaking into the Gulf, when
this contradicted the estimates of specialist outside of BP. In addition BP tried to give blame for the

more resources in cleaning up the spill. They tried to win the public back before the cleaned the spill

  • 2. Joel Research Paper Joel is the second of 12 Minor Prophets in the Old Testament of the Bible. He is placed between the prophets Hosea and Amos; this information can be used later in determining the time in which his book was written. The book of Joel is divided into four chapters. In the book there is no true understanding about Joel himself, except his name and his father s name. The theme of the Book of Joel is that salvation will come to Judah and Jerusalem only when the people turn to Yahweh. The prophet Joel plays a very significant role in the Bible and also has a message of great importance to deliver to the people of Yahweh. The Book of Joel in the Bible stressed four main points. Joel wanted to warn the people of Judah that the coming of the Lord was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is known that his name signifies Jehovah is God . Joel always had an original approach when he faced the problems in his time. Because of Joel s duty as a preacher of repentance he takes high nobility among the twelve prophets. It is also stated that he is the son of Pethuel. Like Hosea, he [Joel] distinguished himself from others of the same name, by the mention of his unknown father (Pusey 143). It can also be possible that Joel was an inhabitant of Judah, or even a citizen of Jerusalem. This can be proven by the constant repetition of the words Zion and children of Zion (2: I, 23), and also of Judah and Jerusalem (3: I, 6). Many scholars believe that Joel was also a priest because of his wide range of knowledge of the Temple and also of the worship programs. It is concluded from the works that Joel has written that he was a very literate person or according to John Watts, a literary prophecy that is, prophecy composed to be read . This can be seen through Joel s extensive prophetic writing and also in his poetic and descriptive writings. The best example is seen in the writings of the Locust plague (2:3 11) and a drought (1:15 20). Although there are many diverse opinions of when Joel lived or who he was, Yates gives the best overview of whom he was. I found Joel to be a very interesting prophet he in way he reminds me of my late grandfather, Daniel Hugh Derrick ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Peer Pressure In Teenage Movies Bullying and peer pressure are issues that most every student in school has to deal with. Because this is such a pertinent issue, movies are made based on these problems. This is the teen genre. Movies from this genre are from a teenagers point of view so they can relate to them. Heathers is a dark teen movie where the bullies are killed off in an attempt to clean out the school. Peer pressure and bullying are a necessary part of the teen genre because of how big a part it takes in teen society. Almost every film genre is based around groups of people who exist in real life. People who are ten through nineteen make up over one tenth of the earth s population. This creates a demand for films based upon the issues and hardships they go through. Just like how adults can relate to movies about people barely making enough money to pay bills or working in a boring office. Who else would be the antagonist in a teen movie except for bullies or those who peer pressure kids? These seem to be the biggest problems teenagers face and that is why it is always the issue in teen movies. Heathers starts off with a group of female teen bullies practically running a school. One of them, Veronica Sawyer, regrets joining the group because of what she is now involved in. Heather Chandler, the leader, peer pressures Veronica, who is evidently a great calligraphist, into forging notes to appear to be from other people. She then uses these notes to make people think someone else wrote them, usually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You will most likely need to develop a relationship with any member you meet before they will enlighten you about any details about their group. In addition, look for any information on places or meeting spots in your area. Masonic temples are often well established, and you may be able to find locations where other secret societies meet. If you show up and speak with the member at the door, you may be able to find out what you need to do to join. There is a list of people who are associated with these secret societies. I could name almost over one thousand prominent people in government, politics, and entertainment that are affiliated with these societies. Previous Presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush Senior, and George Bush Junior, and Senator John Kerry were all members of the Collegiate Organization Skull and Bones founded at Yale University. Individuals will claim that the work is a form of free speech even if it contains subliminal messaging. The government does not approve of subliminal messaging that takes place in such outlets, as the FTC Act Section Five prohibits unfair or deceptive acts or practices in interstate commerce (Lechnar). The thing that set this class apart from the rest was the use of multimedia in the class. • 17. The Greatest Philosophers Of History How can one truly expect to speculate through wild and whirling words the overwhelming complexity that is human nature? It is undoubtedly one of the more daunting tasks that one can choose to take on, and yet it is far from unprecedented. As human beings, we are fascinated by our own thoughts and tendencies, and the manner in which we conduct ourselves during our short time on earth. It is a topic that has never ceased to fascinate us, for as many aspects of it that remain unchanging throughout the centuries, there are just as many that seem incapable of remaining consistent. Some of the greatest philosophers of history dedicated their lives to this enigma of humanity, and through their minds and words have seen that human nature is a product of both nature itself and the imperative nurturing of other human beings; and that while it may be one of the most complicated notions we will ever face, there are innate truths that cannot be contravened. Perhaps one of the most influential discussions of humanity to have ever taken place was that of Plato s city, a hypothetical place of dwelling meant to be a philosophical speculation of the mannerisms of human beings as Plato and his fellows saw them to be. As a great philosopher, Plato knew that human beings are naturally social beings, and need companionship like their bodies need food and water. Humans congregate into groups it is what separates them from their animalistic instincts, and holds them above such. What is more, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Success Of Deng Xiao Ping s Impact On China (Slide 1) From 1981 until the death of Deng Xiao Ping and the termination of Deng Era in 1997, Deng Xiao Ping was the paramount leader of the People s Republic of China after Mao Zedong s death in 1976. (Slide 2) The nature of Deng Xiao Ping and the period of the Deng Era came to revolutionise China immensely and had the desire for progress and reform at any cost. Civil rights, Economic reforms and International relations under Deng Era can be considered to undermine the costs and benefits of Deng Xiaoping s modernisation of China. To seek further information, a major focus questions was built, which is, to what extent, did Deng Xiao Ping have a positive impact on China internally, economically and internationally after 1997? A hypothesis is created to answer the question, that Deng Xiao Ping had a detrimental impact because he dismissed civil rights in China internally, economically and internationally after 1997. Furthermore, the costs of China s reform and progress had a greater role than the benefits during the Deng Era. Therefore, the effects of the Deng Era, internally, economically and internationally had a greater cost impact than benefits on China. Three focus questions were acquired for this investigation. The present study examined the reverse idea that meta analysis is the superior method. A literature search was conducted of meta analysis studies for psychotherapy within the PsycINFO database. The resulting studies were further examined and classified as either primary articles or secondary articles. Primary articles were further examined for secondary articles associated with them. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As with any other process, meta analysis has several disadvantages or weaknesses. It s been argued, for example, that one of the weaknesses of meta analysis is associated with the fact that it requires a great amount of effort and expertise, and that currently there is a major drawback in the research community of those who conduct them (Berkeljon Baldwin, 2009). Lipsey Wilson (2001) also argued that meta analysis often loses a lot of valuable qualitative data (for example, the social context of the study) because it aggregates only quantitative data. It is further argued that the exclusion of such data may sometimes interfere with the process of arriving at the right conclusion (Lipsey Wilson, 2001). Other authors also argue that meta analysis includes a mix of different studies in a single review which could be very problematic (Berkeljon Baldwin, 2009). For example, Glass, McGraw Smith (1981) referred to this as the apples and oranges problem, arguing that different treatments and measures are given the same weight, when, in fact, they are not always the same. This, Glass, McGraw, and Smith claimed, can result in a misrepresentation of the measures used in each study, as well as their level of contribution to the review, which would skew the results. Lastly, the weaknesses of meta analysis have been noted by others to stem from the fact that if poor quality studies or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Little Miss Sunshine Analysis Little Miss Sunshine Essay Maia Falkner Little Miss Sunshine , is a film directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. This film is about a girl named Olive (played by Abigail Breslin) and her family, on their physical and emotional journey to a beauty pageant in California. In the film Little Miss Sunshine the important settings that helped me understand an idea was, backstage the beauty pageant, onstage the beauty pageant and a contrasting scene on the wharf. These three scenes helped me understand the idea of society s unrealistic false standards and the intense judgement of those that fall beneath these standards. The settings backstage and on stage the beauty pageant portray the idea that in order to obtain beauty , extreme lengths must be taken. In this setting young girls are stripped of their identity and objectified. The falseness of the makeup and spray tan automatically creates an air of self doubt and pressure to reach this unreachable perception of beauty . The setting on the wharf contrasts with the falseness of the pageant and exposes the idea that judgement is all throughout life and somewhat inescapable, that essentially life is one big beauty contest. The first setting that portrays the idea of society s unrealistic standards is backstage at the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. This setting portrays this idea by showing us an environment in which the falseness is almost overbearing. The hotel in which the pageant takes place is filled with young girls being pampered by their mothers, spray tan, absurd amounts of makeup and over the top costumes. These all represent this terribly false perception of beauty and objectify these young girls. A downward, mid shot of a girl getting her legs spray tanned by her mother describes the distorted reality of this situation. The girl s face is out of the shot which is objectifying her and taking away her the identity. This is followed by a wide shot of Olive and Sheryl walking through the room showing products and clothes. In this shot, we see a huge contrast between the materialistic setting and the naturalness of Sheryl and Olive with their ordinary clothes, natural hair, and pale skin. The mise en scene of the hotel lobby reinforces the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hypotheses are that the magnitude of the terrorist attacks was such that the American mass media were pressured by strong feelings of patriotism and eager to serve national interest , at the risk of failing to cover news objectively and thoroughly, and that, consequently, the American public let the Bush administration carry out a disastrous foreign policy in the Middle East. This topic is particularly interesting as it is about a country that is regarded as the world s top superpower of this era, at least militarily speaking, and that defines itself as the world s first and oldest democracy. For a child, almost any type of conflict, such as a heated discussion on a radio talk show or between two experts during a newscast, may seem as aggressive as two comic book characters throwing anvils. As of yet, we do not have a clear explanation of what causes violence and aggression in our youth, whether we analyze media content or explore the everyday aggressive behavior that may cause violent behavior, Individual studies define these notions in a lot of different ways; Thus, the rules of the game are constantly changing for those who try to analyze the situation as a whole. The difficulty in quantifying aggression and violence in ways that make it almost impossible to answer the following question: Does violence in the media cause people to commit acts of violence? In 1994, Andrea Martinez of the University of Ottawa conducted a thorough review of the scientific literature on media violence for the Canadian Radio television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). She concluded that: the lack of consensus is caused by three gray areas in this type of research . These gray areas still apply today. First, it is very difficult to define and measure violence in the media. Some experts who follow violence in television programs, such as the late George Gerbner, defined violence as the act (or threat) of hurting or killing another person, regardless of the method used or the surrounding context. Well if you look back in history, you will see that the true beginning of manufacturing began around the 18th to 19th centuries, during a period called the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution first began in Britain, and then it started to spread. Factories, inventions and immigration bloomed in America. More inventions and machines were made and that help mass produce goods. Factories brought a bunch of workers in a area to operate and produce goods.
