Humans have controlled fire for thousands of years. This basis of technology has since allowed
humans to expand. Fire allowed humans to hunt during the winter and eventually hunt in groups.
These groups had to have a certain understanding to create a society that allowed everybody to
survive. Through many years a language developed which became a basis for society. These hunter
groups had evolved enough to settle down and create agriculture. Agriculture brought in people from
many different areas, and those people eventually learned that same language. Language helped them
by assigning a position in society such as hunters, farmers, and gatherers. As these groups expanded,
the area for hunting also expanded which may have led to the discovery of other civilizations.
Language was traded between the groups and created even more languages by combining them
together. Over time these groups took language to many different areas in the Indo European area and
allowed over 500 languages to develop. Language has since been crucial to the survival of humans.
Humans would have a difficult time communicating without language, and would not be able to teach
new techniques of farming and other jobs. Since humans can communicate, it has allowed them to
create many wonders of the world and many advancements in technology (Evolution of Language).
Technology Technology has allowed humans to create some intricate masterpieces both artwise and
architectural. Technology includes, but is not limited to, items such as tools, language related
technology, the wheel, and structures such as buildings. One of the most important pieces of the
linguistic technology is the Rosetta Stone (Rosetta

Tension and Suspense the Novel and the Opening Scene of the Film Jaws
Peter Benchley wrote Jaws the novel before it was made into a film directed by Steven Spielberg.
Jaws is a thriller with the main aim being to build up suspense and tension. In the novel Peter
Benchley uses many variations of language techniques to emphasise important points that build up
suspense. He also uses sentence and paragraph structure to affect the reader in many different ways.
Steven Spielberg on the other hand uses different camera angles and shots alongside lighting effects to
create atmosphere and tension. In the background he uses music and sound effects to add to the
dramatic visual images he creates. Finally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tempo and volume gradually increase with the intention of raising the viewer s heartbeat. This
increase also gives the effect that whatever is moving through the water is getting closer and speeding
up. Then all of a sudden a dramatic picture, from the shark s eye view appears, creeping through the
weeds on the seabed. The camera angle is very effective, as the audience moves through the weeds
with the shark. The dimly lit darkness of deep underwater which creates an unclear picture has the
effect of making the audience anxious as nobody knows what the shark is about to find.
The instant that the picture appears, an abrupt increase in the tempo and the volume of the music
makes the viewer s heart leap. Amounting tension causes an adrenaline rush and makes the viewer
edgy. Suspense is created because the viewer knows that something will happen but does not know
when. When the music comes to a climax a horn joins in with the cellos. Horns are generally
associated with any kind of hunt and although the audience doesn t yet know that the shark is after the
girl the horn adds to the overall nervousness of the atmosphere. As screeching, slashing violins can be
heard the bold, glaring title Jaws appears in capital letters signalling the ultimate climax of the tension.

In 1998 Disney released the action packed movie Mulan. Mulan is strong female lead that doesn t fit
the typical dainty Disney princess. How could it not be feminist? Hidden (or not so hidden)

Happiness Is The Best Thing Essay
For Aristotle, happiness is the best thing, for it is a thing for and in itself. Happiness is derived from
ethics, and ethics is answer to how you achieve happiness. Virtue is a means in which ethics are
preformed and are derived from passions and actions. That is, passions and actions are means in which
ethical virtue is performed in order to gain happiness. Aristotle believes that for anything to be known
it must derive from four causes. From these causes we understand what ethics is and its relation to the
soul, virtue and how these are used to obtain happiness. Though happiness is the final goal it still must
be journeyed through introspective and active movements by the self. The four causes are a means to
argue a philosophical question. They include efficient causes; the source of movement that will be
understood as the why or by which. Material cause is concerned with the out of which and formal
cause deals with form or shape and is understood as the into which or what was being. The purpose of
these causes is to come to a conclusion, the final cause, or rather an end or goal; the desire that the
original philosophical question is concerned with and it is understood as for the sake of which. It is by
these four causes we can understand what ethics deals with and how we understand it s purpose.
Ethics is concerned with what is the good life for me, and the final cause will be happiness. The
remaining causes will help in understanding why activity and emotions

Immature Parents: Role Reversal

It s hard to say why adults don t always act like grown ups. Sometimes good parents simply make
mistakes, Ward says. For these moms and dads, a conversation or a carefully worded letter might be
enough to do the trick. But others never got the parenting they needed and, Brown explains, failed to
make strides past adolescence toward a healthy, mature level of empathy. For them, she adds,
everything centers around what they want, and selfish conduct is an inherent part of their pattern of
behaviors and attitudes. In these cases, no amount of talking will change them, so instead of trying to
improve communication, Brown suggests self protection. If your parent is hurting you with his or her
behavior and won t change, you have no choice but to set up emotional barriers to protect yourself.
Ward also advises seeking support from a responsible adult, like a counselor, teacher, minister, or a
friend s parent. That s what Sarah did. I started attending a teen Bible study, and Kelly, the lady who
led it, became like a mother to me, she says. My mom was jealous, but I think Kelly saved my life.
Teens who are forced to act like adults often have a hard time reaching out for help because they are
so adult, Ward says. But they need someone who can remind them that it s OK to

The authors not only provided a longitudinal data that demonstrated safety of SCC DBS for patients
with MDD and BP, but also introduced DBS as an antidepressant intervention for patients with BP.
However, further changes and clarifications are needed for efficacy measurements and parameter
adjustments for changing the currents of stimulation and for reporting results. While this study has
potentially profound clinical implications, the authors should resubmit the study with changes before
being accepted in the publication. The inclusion and exclusion criteria for the screening and
preoperative evaluation phase were well defined as shown in Fig. 1. The authors defined TRD patients
as patients who were not adequately responding at least four antidepressant interventions and scoring
at least three on the Antidepressant Treatment History Form (Sackeim, 2001). This guideline to define
TRD is comparable to other controlled trials in similar experiments (i.e. DBS for patients with TRD)
(Fava, 2003). Also, the authors accounted for potential confounding variables by excluding all patients
who showed contraindications for DBS surgery and its active stimulation. The authors had a nice
balance of patients between MDD (n =10) and BP (n=7) prepared for SCC DBS surgery. However, the
following revisions on parameter adjustments are recommended to improve the paper. All patients
initially received 130 Hz, 91 µs pulse, and 4 mA (mA) current during the initial active

Review Of James Fenimore Cooper s The Last Of The Mohicans
Portrayed in the midst of the French and Indian war, The Last of the Mohicans, by James Fenimore
Cooper, focuses on life in the frontier and the violent clashes the French and Native Americans
experience with the English during the French and Indian war. Hawkeye, a white hunter who
identified closely to the Native Americans, becomes entangled in the grotesques battles happening in
the French and Indian war in order to save the lives of two women. Although written seventy five
years past the prime of the events happening in the novel, Cooper implements and manipulates factual
events in history to provide a subtle idea of the conflicts that happened in the French and Indian War.
France and Great Britain went to war during 1754 due to the increased tension of territorial expansion.
It is true that Major General Webb abandoned fort William Henry and appointed Lieutenant Munro
who was unprepared for the anticipated French attack. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cooper captured this through the Delawares who were made to initially oppose Hawkeye and his
friends. The title of this novel foreshadows the genocide of Indians throughout the course of the war.
The survivors of the Mohican tribe are Uncas and his father Chingachgook. In chapter 33, Uncas dies
in an attempt to save the life of his beloved Cora, the fictitious daughter of Munro. Tamenund, the
leader of the Delaware tribe says, The pale faces are masters of the earth. And the time of the red men
has not yet come again (Chapter 33). His optimism of the Native American people acquiring the
opportunity to gain power is ironic because the Indians do not gain any power in reality; instead they

Human Nature And Development Of Personality
Adlerian Therapy
Liliana Salazar
University of North Texas at Dallas
Adlerian Therapy According to Maniacci and Jonhson Migalski (2013), Individual psychology
mandates that a person must be understood in the holistic, phenomenological, teleological way
(p.179). Adlerians believe heredity and environment influence but do not determine our behaviors.
Moreover, every person has to strive for power, and humans develop inferiority feelings as a
consequence. Therefore, they need to overcome those feelings (Croake, 1975). This paper explains
how the views of human personality as holistic can explain maladjustment in the client, Allen, a 34
year old male who experiences episodes of depression. The paper will explore Allen s personality and
the relationship between those past experiences and maladjustment.
Human Nature and Development of Personality Croake (1975) argued the human being is a whole, not
just parts. Then personality can only be expressed if we take into consideration all aspects of the
human being. Adler (1982) pointed out that human nature of personality explains how heredity and
environment cannot build an attitude related to life. Instead every person builds on individual
experience. He affirmed that humans couldn t be classified. Edgar (1996) explained the medical model
does not apply to every person because everyone is unique, and when science tries to explain human
mistakes by their genes we are categorizing human beings.
According to Adler (1982), the

The Invention Of Digital Photography
Introduction
In the early 20th century, when the monochrome camera came to people s sight, round or oval frames
were as common as square frames. They offered a sense of both formality and intimacy. Though the
technology of digital photography is increasingly reaching more new heights, nothing can beat
holding a printed photo of a precious memory in hands. The incredible project has once again pushed
out a innovation in instant photography. The instant project is proud of its Impossible Instant Lab to

Photographic film is the indispensable part of Impossible Instant Lab when taking photos. The quality
of colorful photos depends on the quality of photographic films in some degree. The company can
launch three different levels of photographic films onto the market. Firstly, the photographic film is
needed to meet the demands of common consumers who only can afford low level products. This type
of photographic film may cost 20 penny each and be sold at the price of 50 penny. Next, regular level
of photographic needed to be produced in order to offer the convenience for the majority of
consumers. This type of photographic is produced at the cost of 25 penny and the price of 60 penny.
Furthermore, some advanced photographic film is also in the consideration since one part of
consumers focus on the quality and the style of photos. As a result, the company can produce some
photographic films with better material and decoration. Consequently, the cost of it is higher and the
price is more expensive at 50 penny and 1 pound respectively.
Financial plan for cost and price of camera
The instant camera attracts young generation especially girls. According to the consumers
consumption level, the Impossible Instant Lab can be divided in to three main aspects. Firstly,
consumers who have ability to afford the average price of the instant camera are expected to be taken
into consideration. So the raw material is supposed to be considered to be

The article Muscular contributions to hip and knee extension during the single limb stance phase of
normal gait: a Theoretical Framework for Crouch Gait by Allison Arnold, Frank Anderson, Marcus
Pandy, and Scott Delp investigates the biomechanics of normal gait in hopes to uncover ideas to help
determine treatments for crouch gait. Crouch gait is a bothersome abnormality that affects the gait
pattern of people who suffer from the condition of cerebral palsy. It s characterized by excessive
flexion of the hips and knees during standing and excessive use of metabolic energy to complete a
single gait cycle. Currently, the treatments for this condition are limited and have unpredictable
outcomes due to the unknown biomechanical causes of the excessive flexion in crouch gait. These
treatments include surgical lengthening of hamstrings, ankle foot orthoses, and intense stretching
regimens, with patients experiencing results ranging from no improvement in their symptoms to
dramatic improvements. The vast array of results from treatments are due to the little understanding
medical professionals have of not only abnormal gait patterns (such as crouch gait) but of normal gait
as well (Arnold, Anderson, Pandy, and Delp, 2005). Despite the article s title relating to crouch gait,
the purpose of the study conducted was to examine and quantify the accelerations of normal hip and
knee movements that were induced by specific muscles during the single limb stance phase and to
rank these

The Real Life Grind Analysis
The Real Life Grind
Most men indeed as well as most sects in religion, think themselves in possession of all truth, and that
wherever others differ from them it is so far error (Franklin 43). Many people, as Benjamin Franklin
points out in his speech, Speech in the Convention, hold their opinions above others; they believe that
their perspective is the most clear and realistic. Conversely, Albert Camus, a French philosopher,
author and journalist from the 20th century, opposed the general view of the old Greek myth about
Sisyphus s tragic fate. When everyone thought they were correct, Camus proved them wrong. Camus
argued that Sisyphus s fate was not as tragic as it was speculated to be. He states, The lucidity that was
to constitute his torture at the same time crowns his victory. . . The struggle itself toward the heights is
enough to fill a man s heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy (Camus 17 18). The general opinion
of the Sisyphus s fate was that it is tragic because he consciously knows that his labor of pushing a
boulder up a mountain for eternity serves no purpose, but Camus suggests that the fact that Sisyphus
knows his fate makes him the champion of it. He is the owner of that fate; Camus goes as far to say
that Sisyphus enjoys his labor because on his way up, he toils to push the boulder and works willingly
in spite of the gods that condemned him to this fate. When Sisyphus reaches the top of the mountain,
he feels triumphant and maybe even improves himself with skills he learned on his way to the top.
Identically, playing video games has the same impression. There is the misconception that playing
such games are a waste of time and are meaningless labor, but if examined meticulously, playing
video games have a similar grind to that of Sisyphus; they teach things to the player that only he or
she can value consciously. Viewing through the scientific lens, video games, albeit not all useful, can
offer educational benefits, such as creativity and data handling skills, collaborative skills, and career
exposure or experience, to students.
As a matter of fact, the act of playing a video game can boost a student s creativity and data handling.
In the article titled Designing Interactive Learning:

Video Games Feature Violence
Videos games that feature violence do contribute to oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder
and other childhood problems. The reason why is because children at a young age should not be
witnessing any kind of violence. One of the reason is children are in the learning process. Therefore
whatever they see, or watch, they will apply that to real life situation. That is how most TV programs
are being paid for. For example, Dora The Explorer, it teaches kids how to say things or do things.
Therefore, kids will grow up assuming that whatever they watch is okay in real life situations. It s not
just what they watch that will affect their growing but also how they feel about what they watch or

Affirmitive Action In The College Admissions Process Essay
Every year millions of high school seniors apply to colleges and universities across the country. Some
get in, some don t. These schools have strict policies on the criteria for the acceptance of such
students. The criteria involve many aspects of a student s prior academic career, such as their
academic standing, extra curricular activities and work ethic. These are criteria that put everyone on
the same level because everyone has the ability to work harder or join more athletics. However, no
one can change the color of their skin, and colleges base their admissions on these variables as well.
So racism, in a sense, affects even the most basic of human ideals, education. If all men are truly

This is due to the racism they experienced many years ago. As a result programs called affirmative
action have been implemented to make sure that people of a skin color other than that of white are
given equal opportunities, when in fact all these programs do is make it unfair to others.
Perhaps the most important individual event ever to effect affirmative action in schools was passed by
the Supreme Court in 1978. The Supreme Court Justice at the time, Lewis Powell, found the
attainment of a diverse student body as a constitutionally permissible goal for a university exercising
its educational judgement. He also found in the case that race was one factor contributing to diversity.
This all started when Allan Bakke, a white male, sued the University of California, for what he
claimed was an unfair practice. His grievance with the school was that the medical school held 16
positions open solely for minority applicants. The Supreme Court agreed with Bakke that utilizing a
specific quota to achieve diversity violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. Powell noted that race
could be considered a quot;plus, quot; in addition to other academically relevant factors, in making
admissions decisions. The Court in Bakke, however, was deeply split: six different Justices filed
opinions, and none of these opinions won the support of a majority. Powell s opinion has been looked
upon as the quot;swing vote, quot; given that he joined in other

Sociological Perspective On Marriage
Marriage can be viewed through any of the three main sociological perspectives: symbolic
interactionism, functionalism, and conflict theory. We will examine each one of these perspectives
individually. First, we will discuss marriage through the functionalist perspective. Functionalists say
that marriage fulfills the basic needs of society: economic production, recreation, sexual control, the
socialization and incorporation of children, reproduction, and the care of elders. The family fulfills
these roles. Although different societies definitions of marriage vary widely, they all satisfy these basic
criteria in some way. Functionalists also consider dysfunctions of marriage and family. They discuss
the fact that today s nuclear families, which exclude the extended family, prevent the distribution of
stress from the family s problems and may cause the nuclear family to splinter apart. It also lessens the
accountability of the nuclear family and allows problems such as abuse or incest to continue
unchecked. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conflict theorists point out that conflict is a part of every marriage, and state that this conflict comes
from a struggle for power. They insist that women have been resentful of the power held by their
husbands for centuries, and have now wrested more than their fair share from their husband s grasps.
Personally, I don t put much stock in this idea; in the diagram on page 465, the chart shows that about
the same amount of couples divide decisions equally as just wives deciding, or just husbands deciding.
It s fairly close to an even split. According to conflict theory, none of these couples should divide
decisions equally; one should have the upper

Star Wars Influence On American Culture
From the opening text that crawl with a line A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... along with
John William s timeless score, American culture has always been massively impacted by the Star Wars
universe and all of its wonders. Starting its first movie 1977, Star Wars created a phenomenon across
the US due to its originality in storytelling and amazing works in special effects. Beyond its
popularity, Star War was even selected by the Library of Congress to be preserved as a national
treasure for being aesthetically, culturally and historically significant. This shows that the spectrum of
influence of the franchise does not stop at just filmmaking, but also stretches further to American s
pop culture, history, religion and politics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had the whole space fantasy world painted in his mind, but it seemed to be just a fantasy after all
since the technology available was still limited to produce such visual effects. Lucas quickly realized
that in order for his universe to come to life, he was going to have to build it by hand
(theneweconomy, 1). It may have sounded a little ridiculous at first, but for anyone who worked with
Lucas knew that there were no impossibilities when it came to build one of the biggest franchises in
the world. John Dykstra, a visual effect designer, was chosen to work as the head director in special
effects by Lucas for the original trilogy described how he and his group were spending months to
build models and robots from scratch to achieve the realism that Lucas wanted (theneweconomy, 1).
He stated that, Back in the days of Star Wars, we kind of walked into an empty warehouse and sat on
the floor and went How are we going to do this? Lucas and Dykstra were paying close attention to the
details and motions of every creature and miniature in the film, especially how to make them look as
life like as possible through the use of animation and motion control photography that, surprisingly,
still looks fresh today. Star Wars was the first movie to use realistic explosions, action

Synthesis Essay On The Melting Pot
The United States has a motto, e pluribus unum, that suggests that in America, embracing diversity
creates unity. Long ago, during the 1900s, assimilation was considered to be crucial in order for a
naturalization process to occur. Immigrants were forced to assimilate and adopt to the American
culture, in which they had never been introduced to before. Over time, things evolved and changed to
the point where people began to assimilate to a certain point, but still have their cultural traditions,
giving America a nickname known as the Melting Pot. America being known as The Melting Pot,
defends the claim that in today s society, The United States of America is moving toward a new
standard in which diversity and individuality are encouraged more than uniformity and conformity.
Before a naturalization ceremony occurs, the United States citizens still have their cultural ideas and
languages being spoken along with them. In Source 1, it s a picture of citizens all waving American
flags, with a subtitle of, New U.S. Citizens wave American flags before being sworn in at a
naturalization ceremony. This is proving that even though the citizens have not yet been fully
naturalized, they still have their culture along with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Source 2, it states, What it means to be American in spirit, in blood is something far more borrowed
and comingled than anything previous generations ever knew. Alongside the pain of immigration,
then, and the possibility, there is this truth: America is white no longer, and it will never be white
again. This evidence is proving that it doesn t mean much to be assimilated into American culture, but
to be spirited as an American. This issue has disappeared over time, as this source is stating that
America is white no longer and will never be white again. This is meaning that America is known as
the melting pot nowadays, and is not considered white

The goal for using this model is to increase student learning growth by improving the quality of
instructional, administrative, and supervisory practices. Assessing is a major priority in the school
system because this is the only way principals are aware of the progress their students and teachers are
producing. It is recommended that principals meet monthly with other administrators to stay up to date
on the current changes in the curriculum, instruction, and assessments. The school leadership teams
must ensure that they are choosing instructional works that have high success rates for enhancing
student achievement. If the data results from the assessment show that the majority of students are not
producing learning gains, the school s principal should sit down with the teacher to discuss and
reevaluate the lessons that are being taught. Accordingly, the state of Florida requires students in
grades 3 12 to take the FCAT 2.0. This test is used to measure the competency level of students by
grade level and is an indication of effectiveness of lessons taught. Furthermore, teachers are not only
gauged by the students grades and administrator evaluation, but also by standardized test like the
FCAT.

Explain One Possible Cause Of The Great Human Migration
1. Identify and explain one example of non historical evidence for human migration out of Africa.
Throughout his article, The Great Human Migration, Guy Gugliotta analyzes various evidence that
support the theory of human migration out of Africa. Gugliotta explains how scientists use
mitochondrial DNA, which is passed on only from one s mother and has a fast mutation rate, to trace
modern humans origin. By analyzing modern mitochondrial DNA and working backwards, scientists
have found that a woman alive in Africa 200,000 years ago had the mitochondrial DNA that is found
in people alive today. The woman was named Eve and she is, what scientists call, our most recent
common ancestor. DNA evidence showed that she lived in Africa, which supports the out of Africa
theory because it proves that modern humans originated in Africa. These findings link Africa as the
hearth of modern humans all over the world and demonstrates that early humans migrated out of
Africa.

As recent scientific evidence shows, Africa may have suffered from a lack of water roughly 100,000
years ago. Since water is essential for human life, the absence of precipitation may have caused early
humans to migrate to other parts of the world. Scientists found evidence which establishes that
modern humans were separated into small, dispersed groups due to the droughts. After the droughts
ended, people decided to migrate to parts of Asia in order to ensure survival. The African people did
not want to risk another drought, so they decided to begin emigrating out of Africa and exploring the
rest of the world. The water deficiency in Africa may have caused modern humans to migrate out of
Africa and begin inhabiting other regions of the

A Wonderful Monograph By Melissa Archer
Introduction
This is a wonderful monograph by Melissa Archer with a comprehensive study of the theme of
worship in the Apocalypse . It illustrates various aspects of worship and the role of worship in the
Apocalypse. The language of the book and different approaches to the theme are appreciated, because
those are simple and clear to understand the theme.
Summary of the book
The context of the book is well organized. Archer divides her text into five chapters, and every chapter
has an introduction and a summery, which is really helpful to read and get the message at the first
glance.
Chapter one is a survey of modern scholarly literature related to the theme of worship in the
Apocalypse. It is divides into four subtopics; A) The theme of worship as a whole, B) The hymns in
the Apocalypse, C) Revelation 4 5, D) Additional worship scenes.
Chapter two is focused on the methodology for the study engaging North American Pentecostalism
and Pentecostal hermeneutics. In this chapter she introduces the term Wirkungsgeschichte ; how to
discover the worship in the Apocalypse.
Chapter three is a careful reading of the early Pentecostal periodical materials. She explains how the
worship practices of early Pentecostals using both the Wesleyan Holiness and the Finished Work
traditions during the time period of 1906 1916.
Chapter four is focused on a sustained narrative reading of the Apocalypse with the theme of worship.
In addition to the prologue and epilogue, there are four

A focus group provides the ideal setting from which to gather unbiased, authentic and in depth
information. However, a focus group is only a success if the moderator creates a suitable setting for
directing, recording and analysing discussions in a natural and unbiased manner. Planning, directing
and recording focus groups does not create problems for researchers, but analysing information takes a
great deal of time and expertise.
And yet while analysing information is the most important step in focus group research, it is also
where most researchers fail to deliver. The findings of a focus group are valuable only if the researcher
analyses the information in a fair and unbiased manner, which is, unfortunately, not always the case. It
is not unheard of for some researchers to filter out what they don t want to hear, create presentations
based on what they think they have heard, or in fact, not analyse the information at all.
A vast amount of information is discussed during a focus

Ravinder Kaur Who Says You Re A Dane Summary
In the article who says you re a dane? author Ravinder Kaur takes a deep and Poignant look at the

Throughout the article, Kaur provides numerous premises and pieces of evidence to support her two
part conclusion. The first part of the conclusion is that Being a meaningful contributor to society was
once deemed valuable in Denmark, enough to provide a sense of belonging. But now, it s the
bloodline that matters. As well as the second part of the conclusion which is that An anti immigrant

gestures of conciliation toward the New Danes . The message is now delivered rough and raw by a
new generation of outspoken politicians . In her article, Kaur provides three statements by three
different Danish politicians to premise her conclusion. The first premise she presents is a statement
from Martin Henriksen, the chairman of a parliamentary committee on immigration, integration, and

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humans have controlled fire for thousands of years. This basis of technology has since allowed humans to expand. Fire allowed humans to hunt during the winter and eventually hunt in groups. These groups had to have a certain understanding to create a society that allowed everybody to survive. Through many years a language developed which became a basis for society. These hunter groups had evolved enough to settle down and create agriculture. Agriculture brought in people from many different areas, and those people eventually learned that same language. Language helped them by assigning a position in society such as hunters, farmers, and gatherers. As these groups expanded, the area for hunting also expanded which may have led to the discovery of other civilizations. Language was traded between the groups and created even more languages by combining them together. Over time these groups took language to many different areas in the Indo European area and allowed over 500 languages to develop. Language has since been crucial to the survival of humans. Humans would have a difficult time communicating without language, and would not be able to teach new techniques of farming and other jobs. Since humans can communicate, it has allowed them to create many wonders of the world and many advancements in technology (Evolution of Language). Tension and Suspense the Novel and the Opening Scene of the Film Jaws Peter Benchley wrote Jaws the novel before it was made into a film directed by Steven Spielberg. Jaws is a thriller with the main aim being to build up suspense and tension. In the novel Peter Benchley uses many variations of language techniques to emphasise important points that build up suspense. He also uses sentence and paragraph structure to affect the reader in many different ways. Steven Spielberg on the other hand uses different camera angles and shots alongside lighting effects to create atmosphere and tension. The tempo and volume gradually increase with the intention of raising the viewer s heartbeat. This increase also gives the effect that whatever is moving through the water is getting closer and speeding up. Then all of a sudden a dramatic picture, from the shark s eye view appears, creeping through the weeds on the seabed. The camera angle is very effective, as the audience moves through the weeds with the shark. The dimly lit darkness of deep underwater which creates an unclear picture has the effect of making the audience anxious as nobody knows what the shark is about to find. The instant that the picture appears, an abrupt increase in the tempo and the volume of the music makes the viewer s heart leap. Amounting tension causes an adrenaline rush and makes the viewer edgy. Suspense is created because the viewer knows that something will happen but does not know when. When the music comes to a climax a horn joins in with the cellos. Horns are generally associated with any kind of hunt and although the audience doesn t yet know that the shark is after the girl the horn adds to the overall nervousness of the atmosphere. • 7. Happiness Is The Best Thing Essay For Aristotle, happiness is the best thing, for it is a thing for and in itself. Happiness is derived from ethics, and ethics is answer to how you achieve happiness. Virtue is a means in which ethics are preformed and are derived from passions and actions. That is, passions and actions are means in which ethical virtue is performed in order to gain happiness. Aristotle believes that for anything to be known it must derive from four causes. From these causes we understand what ethics is and its relation to the soul, virtue and how these are used to obtain happiness. Though happiness is the final goal it still must be journeyed through introspective and active movements by the self. The four causes are a means to argue a philosophical question. They include efficient causes; the source of movement that will be understood as the why or by which. Material cause is concerned with the out of which and formal cause deals with form or shape and is understood as the into which or what was being. The purpose of these causes is to come to a conclusion, the final cause, or rather an end or goal; the desire that the original philosophical question is concerned with and it is understood as for the sake of which. It is by these four causes we can understand what ethics deals with and how we understand it s purpose. Ethics is concerned with what is the good life for me, and the final cause will be happiness. The remaining causes will help in understanding why activity and emotions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For these moms and dads, a conversation or a carefully worded letter might be enough to do the trick. • 11. Application And Exclusion Criteria For The Screening And... The authors not only provided a longitudinal data that demonstrated safety of SCC DBS for patients with MDD and BP, but also introduced DBS as an antidepressant intervention for patients with BP. However, further changes and clarifications are needed for efficacy measurements and parameter adjustments for changing the currents of stimulation and for reporting results. While this study has potentially profound clinical implications, the authors should resubmit the study with changes before being accepted in the publication. The inclusion and exclusion criteria for the screening and preoperative evaluation phase were well defined as shown in Fig. 1. The authors defined TRD patients as patients who were not adequately responding at least four antidepressant interventions and scoring at least three on the Antidepressant Treatment History Form (Sackeim, 2001). This guideline to define TRD is comparable to other controlled trials in similar experiments (i.e. DBS for patients with TRD) (Fava, 2003). Also, the authors accounted for potential confounding variables by excluding all patients who showed contraindications for DBS surgery and its active stimulation. The authors had a nice balance of patients between MDD (n =10) and BP (n=7) prepared for SCC DBS surgery. However, the following revisions on parameter adjustments are recommended to improve the paper. All patients initially received 130 Hz, 91 µs pulse, and 4 mA (mA) current during the initial active ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Review Of James Fenimore Cooper s The Last Of The Mohicans Portrayed in the midst of the French and Indian war, The Last of the Mohicans, by James Fenimore Cooper, focuses on life in the frontier and the violent clashes the French and Native Americans experience with the English during the French and Indian war. Hawkeye, a white hunter who identified closely to the Native Americans, becomes entangled in the grotesques battles happening in the French and Indian war in order to save the lives of two women. Although written seventy five years past the prime of the events happening in the novel, Cooper implements and manipulates factual events in history to provide a subtle idea of the conflicts that happened in the French and Indian War. • 13. Human Nature And Development Of Personality Adlerian Therapy Liliana Salazar University of North Texas at Dallas Adlerian Therapy According to Maniacci and Jonhson Migalski (2013), Individual psychology mandates that a person must be understood in the holistic, phenomenological, teleological way (p.179). Adlerians believe heredity and environment influence but do not determine our behaviors. Moreover, every person has to strive for power, and humans develop inferiority feelings as a consequence. Therefore, they need to overcome those feelings (Croake, 1975). This paper explains how the views of human personality as holistic can explain maladjustment in the client, Allen, a 34 year old male who experiences episodes of depression. The paper will explore Allen s personality and the relationship between those past experiences and maladjustment. Human Nature and Development of Personality Croake (1975) argued the human being is a whole, not just parts. Then personality can only be expressed if we take into consideration all aspects of the human being. Adler (1982) pointed out that human nature of personality explains how heredity and environment cannot build an attitude related to life. Instead every person builds on individual experience. He affirmed that humans couldn t be classified. Edgar (1996) explained the medical model does not apply to every person because everyone is unique, and when science tries to explain human mistakes by their genes we are categorizing human beings. The article Muscular contributions to hip and knee extension during the single limb stance phase of normal gait: a Theoretical Framework for Crouch Gait by Allison Arnold, Frank Anderson, Marcus Pandy, and Scott Delp investigates the biomechanics of normal gait in hopes to uncover ideas to help determine treatments for crouch gait. Crouch gait is a bothersome abnormality that affects the gait pattern of people who suffer from the condition of cerebral palsy. It s characterized by excessive flexion of the hips and knees during standing and excessive use of metabolic energy to complete a single gait cycle. Currently, the treatments for this condition are limited and have unpredictable outcomes due to the unknown biomechanical causes of the excessive flexion in crouch gait. These treatments include surgical lengthening of hamstrings, ankle foot orthoses, and intense stretching regimens, with patients experiencing results ranging from no improvement in their symptoms to dramatic improvements. The vast array of results from treatments are due to the little understanding medical professionals have of not only abnormal gait patterns (such as crouch gait) but of normal gait as well (Arnold, Anderson, Pandy, and Delp, 2005). Despite the article s title relating to crouch gait, the purpose of the study conducted was to examine and quantify the accelerations of normal hip and knee movements that were induced by specific muscles during the single limb stance phase and to rank these ... • 16. The Real Life Grind Analysis The Real Life Grind Most men indeed as well as most sects in religion, think themselves in possession of all truth, and that wherever others differ from them it is so far error (Franklin 43). Many people, as Benjamin Franklin points out in his speech, Speech in the Convention, hold their opinions above others; they believe that their perspective is the most clear and realistic. Conversely, Albert Camus, a French philosopher, author and journalist from the 20th century, opposed the general view of the old Greek myth about Sisyphus s tragic fate. When everyone thought they were correct, Camus proved them wrong. Camus argued that Sisyphus s fate was not as tragic as it was speculated to be. He states, The lucidity that was to constitute his torture at the same time crowns his victory. . . The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man s heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy (Camus 17 18). The general opinion of the Sisyphus s fate was that it is tragic because he consciously knows that his labor of pushing a boulder up a mountain for eternity serves no purpose, but Camus suggests that the fact that Sisyphus knows his fate makes him the champion of it. He is the owner of that fate; Camus goes as far to say that Sisyphus enjoys his labor because on his way up, he toils to push the boulder and works willingly in spite of the gods that condemned him to this fate. When Sisyphus reaches the top of the mountain, he feels triumphant and maybe even improves himself with skills he learned on his way to the top. Identically, playing video games has the same impression. There is the misconception that playing such games are a waste of time and are meaningless labor, but if examined meticulously, playing video games have a similar grind to that of Sisyphus; they teach things to the player that only he or she can value consciously. Viewing through the scientific lens, video games, albeit not all useful, can offer educational benefits, such as creativity and data handling skills, collaborative skills, and career exposure or experience, to students. As a matter of fact, the act of playing a video game can boost a student s creativity and data handling. In the article titled Designing Interactive Learning: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reason why is because children at a young age should not be witnessing any kind of violence. One of the reason is children are in the learning process. For example, Dora The Explorer, it teaches kids how to say things or do things. Therefore, kids will grow up assuming that whatever they watch is okay in real life situations. These schools have strict policies on the criteria for the acceptance of such students. The criteria involve many aspects of a student s prior academic career, such as their academic standing, extra curricular activities and work ethic. These are criteria that put everyone on the same level because everyone has the ability to work harder or join more athletics. However, no one can change the color of their skin, and colleges base their admissions on these variables as well. So racism, in a sense, affects even the most basic of human ideals, education. As a result programs called affirmative action have been implemented to make sure that people of a skin color other than that of white are given equal opportunities, when in fact all these programs do is make it unfair to others. Perhaps the most important individual event ever to effect affirmative action in schools was passed by the Supreme Court in 1978. The Supreme Court Justice at the time, Lewis Powell, found the attainment of a diverse student body as a constitutionally permissible goal for a university exercising its educational judgement. He also found in the case that race was one factor contributing to diversity. This all started when Allan Bakke, a white male, sued the University of California, for what he claimed was an unfair practice. His grievance with the school was that the medical school held 16 positions open solely for minority applicants. The Supreme Court agreed with Bakke that utilizing a specific quota to achieve diversity violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. Powell noted that race could be considered a quot;plus, quot; in addition to other academically relevant factors, in making admissions decisions. The Court in Bakke, however, was deeply split: six different Justices filed opinions, and none of these opinions won the support of a majority. • 19. Sociological Perspective On Marriage Marriage can be viewed through any of the three main sociological perspectives: symbolic interactionism, functionalism, and conflict theory. We will examine each one of these perspectives individually. First, we will discuss marriage through the functionalist perspective. Functionalists say that marriage fulfills the basic needs of society: economic production, recreation, sexual control, the socialization and incorporation of children, reproduction, and the care of elders. The family fulfills these roles. Although different societies definitions of marriage vary widely, they all satisfy these basic criteria in some way. Functionalists also consider dysfunctions of marriage and family. They discuss the fact that today s nuclear families, which exclude the extended family, prevent the distribution of stress from the family s problems and may cause the nuclear family to splinter apart. It also lessens the accountability of the nuclear family and allows problems such as abuse or incest to continue unchecked. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personally, I don t put much stock in this idea; in the diagram on page 465, the chart shows that about the same amount of couples divide decisions equally as just wives deciding, or just husbands deciding. By analyzing modern mitochondrial DNA and working backwards, scientists have found that a woman alive in Africa 200,000 years ago had the mitochondrial DNA that is found in people alive today. The woman was named Eve and she is, what scientists call, our most recent common ancestor.
