Advanced Ecology Midterm (1) Why is scale important in ecology?
Ecology is the study of the distribution and abundance of organisms, their interactions between each
other and their environment, and the structure and function of ecosystems. To this end, the scale
(spatial, functional, temporal, organizational, etc.) at which we observe nature and the multitude of
environments that comprise it is an extremely important factor in the study of ecology. Dumping
sewage effluent in the middle of a small pond is not going to register even a slight disturbance on a
global or even regional scale , but there is a still massive disturbance to the organisms at the small
scale of that pond ecosystem. Similarly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Large scale variations in these gradients are easy to observe, like an ecotone transitioning grassland
into desert. Smaller scale variations are harder to detect with the naked eye, and micro variations in
habitat are harder to see still. The physical size of environmental heterogeneity / variation is not
indicative of its importance to biodiversity or its ecological relevance, however, as Hutchinson reveals
in his 1959 paper. He discusses the importance of the mosaic nature of the environment as a
significant contributor to biodiversity. While large scale variations in habitat are certainly important
factors in organismal diversity and are responsible for niche differentiation, smaller scale and even
microscopic habitat variations are arguably just as (if not more) important factors that contribute to
biodiversity around the globe. Because the vast majority of animal species on Earth are physical small,
even the tiny variations in a landscape that define its mosaic nature allow for more numerous and
specialized niche differentiations than larger (and less numerous) land animals can fill . Hutchinson s
mosaic nature postulate was an extremely important breakthrough in modern Ecology, and helped
spawn further research into the importance of examining nature at many different scales microscopic,
macroscopic, and everything in between.

The Role Of The Gods In The Aztec Civilization
Most ancient civilizations, including the Aztecs were polytheistic yet most modern religions are
monotheistic, so what caused the change from hundreds of Gods to just one. I believe that the reason
for this phenomenon can be seen in the Aztec civilization dating back to the sixth century in Mexico.
In the beginning, they worshipped dozens of Gods, but as the Spanish Conquest drew closer and the
Aztec empire began to fall, fewer and fewer Gods were worshipped. A prime example of this is two of
their Gods of agriculture, Xipe Totec and Tlaloc. While both were major Gods throughout Aztec
history, as time went on the two slowly became indistinguishable from each other until only Tlaloc
was left, and then as modern day approached, not even him

Overall, a simple, tragic piece of history that tells us a bit about what happened to the overall Aztec
belief system. Some Gods, such as their sun Gods Tonatiuh and Huitzilopochtli were worshipped in
the form of Jesus. Some survived with the Nahuas, the modern day descendants of the Aztecs. Most
were simply forgotten, the obvious reason for which being that there was no room for them in the
monotheistic Catholic religion. As to why Xipe Totec was worshipped in the years proceeding this
event, I have a theory; as all cultures spread, I believe that the version of Aztec mythology that
worshipped Xipe Totec spread to the city of Tenochtitlan, one of, if not the most studied cities by
modern historians. This in turn may have created a few decades where Tlaloc and Xipe Totec
coexisted as two important Gods. However, I feel this may have created an inaccuracy, as some
historians might assume that what happened in Tenochtitlan happened in the rest of the empire (the
worship of Xipe Totec for example); this is what I consider to be the main reason Xipe Tote is
considered to be important to the Aztecs today while he wasn t important back

Environmental Factors Affecting Intelligence Quotient
Environmental Factors and Genetic Trait that influences a Child s Intelligence Quotient
Intelligence of a person involves the ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly,
comprehend complex ideas, learn quickly, and learn from experience. It is not merely book learning, a
narrow academic skill, or test taking smarts. Rather, it reflects a broader and deeper capability for
comprehending our surroundings catching on, making sense of things, or figuring out what to do.
(Makharia et al, 2016, p.1 3)
There are a couple of factors that determines a child s intelligence quotient (IQ). The first factor is
genetic trait. Naturally, parents pass on some traits to their offspring. This could be eye color, shape,
size, height and blood type. A person s intelligence is also something that is inherited, but the
environment determines if a person reaches their inherited intelligence potential. It is believed that
genetic traits start developing from prenatal period; thus, the unborn child learns and become familiar
with sound, taste, music and many more. After birth, environmental factors such as place of residence,
family income, education, interpersonal relationships with people and among other factors develops
the passed on traits from parents. In most cases, it is believed that children born into a wealthy family
would have high IQ than children born into a low income family. This is because children born into a
wealthy family would have access to good learning

LIVED EXPERIENCES OF WOMEN DIAGNOSED WITH HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS
Introduction Human Papillomavirus (HPV) has been dubbed as the most common sexually transmitted
infection that does not require sexual penetration for it to spread. Individuals infected with HPV may
be asymptomatic or they may acquire genital warts or cancer depending on the strains that have
infected them. With more than 100 strains identified, the most commonly spread strains that result to
genital warts and cancer are 6 and 11, 16 and 18, respectively. These common strains are currently
vaccine preventable with cervarix (for type 16 and 18) and Gardasil (types 6, 11, 16 and 18). In 2007,
Australia led the first vaccine program with Gardasil which have successfully ... Show more content

It is noted that statistics on HPV infection is nil worldwide, nationally or locally. Treatment of the
virus requires constant visitation to medical practitioners. According to Workowski et al (2010),
genital warts may have various recommended treatment regimen depending on considerable factors
each with its own side effects but this does not remove the virus but only removes the growth.
Treating HPV related cancers (penile, anogenital, oropharyngeal, cervical) on the other hand is
another roller coaster experience. Disappointingly, very few studies highlight the experiences of the
individuals suffering from HPV. Hence, this study is aimed in understanding the lived experiences of
women with human papillomavirus. Through this qualitative study, health care providers may be able
to analyze the personal perceptions, life changes, success and adversities of these patients. It is the
hope of the researcher that the findings of the study would be utilized in checking and improving the
current nursing practice to enable health care providers to create a more holistic method of care and
management for women with HPV.

Alexander The Great Leader
Alexander the Great was a great leader because he was always determined to be successful, even when
he was young he wanted to win and he always had good morals and a good way of life. Alexander
always loved Greece and was selfless when he was young. Alexander kept these traits and developed
as a leader and used them while he was conquering other countries. Alexander initially brought 40,000
men to take over Persia, knowing he would get more men from the places he took over. He spread the
Greek ways and he could do anything he wanted because he was such a dominant leader because he
was the best at strategizing and tactical warfare. Alexander the Great was so dominant because he had

One example of innovative tactics is when he had his men cross the Tiber River, so they could sneak
up on the Persians and destroy their army with a surprise attack. This led him to a great victory with
using a small army against a very big one. This is an example of his army being efficient. In his youth,
Alexander studied war tactics with his mentors instead of going out and wasting time on games. He
was forged to be a great, dominant leader. Alexander was very good at deciding between fair and
honorable and this was a hard thing to do that helped his military career a lot. Alexander had amazing
pre war speeches and this one consisted of him telling the soldiers their existence depended on their
effort in the war. This particular war he did not have many soldiers compared to the Persians, but his
superior tactics led him to victory. Alexander set up his army with cavalry in the middle with archers
on both sides of that, and on the sides of the archers were soldiers on foot with non ranged weapons.
This tactic is a great tactic because the archers can provide cover for soldiers or the calvary. Alexander

Charter Schools Vs. Magnet Schools
The traditional idea of schooling has evolved throughout the course of history. Our diverse world
commands alternative ways of organizing education. These alternative measures are designed to meet
the needs of students who may not have an opportunity to be successful within the traditional school
setting. Although, students are the primary constituents of education, they are not the sole culprits of
reform in education. The needs for alternative educational programs include aspects such as
population decline, economic issues, and the need for better learning experiences. Therefore,
alternative methods are designed to meet the needs of particular groups of students in various ways
that might be difficulty to meet in the traditional setting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Communities and educators are seeking programs like Charter and Magnet Schools, in place of the
traditional public school setting. Charter Schools allow teachers and a local school board to determine
decisions regarding education. Likewise, the teachers and the local school board are also held
accountable, in regards to student performance. In regards to magnet schools, students are given an
opportunity to learn through themes. Henceforth, these themes are usually centered on the talents of
the students. For example, a magnet school could be designed around performing arts. The School
Within A School is similar to the magnet school idea. Consequently, these alternative school programs
allow students to learn through their individual interests. However, there are other forms of alternative
programs. Multi Aged Classrooms is designed based on the layout of the school. In a Multi Aged
Classroom setting, students are not grouped according to their age, but are grouped based on
developmental stages. Therefore, all students are grouped in one classroom with numerous teachers.
The students receive one on one instruction. Therefore, the instructional process is delivered based on
the needs of a particular student. Another aspect of alternative programs deals with the economic and
the environment of the school. In a School/ Community Economic Development the primary focus is
on the local economy. The students work with municipal planners, research spending patterns, and
start up of student businesses. In the Community Based School, the school draws on the local
environment as a way to make abstract concepts and textbooks lessons more meaningful. Finally, the
last alterative program is the Year Round School idea. This approach is designed to keep students in
school longer durations of time with short breaks in between. Although the year round school can
vary, research has suggested that student

The Hobbit Greed
American literature
In The Hobbit we are exposed to a world were the most unanticipated and simple creatures are
expected to fulfill a great destiny or special purpose. These callings are similar to ones we find in our
faith. Throughout the book we see themes of prophecy, the unexpected strength of an underdog, and
corruption through greed which all coincide nicely with Christianity. Tolkien s work not only retains
gods word but he expands on it through the exciting world of a small hobbit named Bilbo.
Initially, In order for the company to reach its destination (the lonely mountain) they must seek advice
in Rivendell, where the elvish king Elrond is asked to not only identify the swords but to also interpret
Thorin s map. As Elrond observes the moon letters he reads, stand by the grey stone when the thrush
knocks, and the setting sun with the last night of Durin s day will shine upon the key hole. (Tolkien

entrance into the mountain. Another prophecy is the impact of the dwarves arrival had on the people

appearance does display that he is not fit to be a hero, but he is chosen as most underdogs are. Bilbo is
expected to play a role in a story that s much more exceptional then he is aware of, just as we are
called to fulfill our own roles on Earth. Gandalf even states at the closing of the hobbit you don t
really suppose do you that all your adventures and escapes were managed by pure luck just for your
sole benefit? You are a fine person, Mr. Baggins , and I am very fond of you ; but you are only quite a
little fellow in a wide world after all! (

Kelley Huttar
Immanuel Kant (1724 1804):
Immanuel Kant was a modern day German deontologist from Prussia and became one of history s
most famous Philosophers. A deontologist is someone who believes in acts that are strictly right or
wrong. Kant was an influential thinker and one of the last philosophers of the Enlightenment era.
However his work in epistemology (the study of knowledge) and theology (the study of religion) are
still influential to current philosophers of our time. He was also known for his beliefs in ethics and his
knowledge in astronomy.

An example of this would be our duty as humans to tell the truth, this would be considered a perfect
duty. Lying on the other hand would be considered an imperfect duty, because no one benefits from
lying. (Kristina)
The categorical imperative has different formulations; however there are three famous formulations
per my readings. The first is act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will
that it should become a universal law . This is describing an action based on perfect duty and
imperfect duty. A perfect duty is an action that would be blameworthy if the duty was not met and
imperfect duty would be an action that would not be considered blameworthy if not met because you
made the attempt for the better good of the universe and should be praised for taking on this action on
your own. An example of this is a police officer who is killed in the line of duty, he cannot be blamed
for not completing his duties as an officer because he died while doing his job; however the officer
will be praised and honored by his family and peers for doing his duty as an officer and doing his best
to uphold the law. (Driver, 2006).
The second is Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person in the person of
another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means . This formulation is based

First Person Narration In Denis Johnson s Work
First person narration within stories sometimes can mean that the narrator may not have complete
knowledge of all the events that occur. The narrators unequivocally refer to themselves using phrases
involving I . Doing this allows the reader or audience to see the point of view of the narrator which
includes opinions, thoughts, and feelings. These point of views are only of the narrator, and of no
other characters. In Denis Johnson s Work the narrator is a heroin addict who lives in a dream like
state of mind. The story being told in first person allows the reader to peer into his thoughts while
under the influence of mind altering drugs. However, changing the narration style to an external angle,
excludes the reader from understanding why the narrator has become an addict. Doing this deviates
the tone from depressing and dark to prosaic and humdrum like. ... Show more content on

woman who was suspended by the kite was his friend Wayne s wife. Taking out this detail of the

state of mind. The only way the reader is able to tell that he is indeed under the influence of mind

Shinto: A Japanese Religion
Uncovering the religious significance and practices of Japanese Shinto
As an ancient religion of Japan, Shinto was originally a combination of nature worship, divination
techniques, and shamanism. Meaning the way of the Gods , the origins of Shinto are not apparent in
comparison to other religions, especially other Asian religions and beliefs. With no obvious founder,
as well as original written scriptures and authentic laws, a number of theories exist about the
origination of Shinto as a religion and its development across the Japanese lands. However, the
significance of the religion has shifted the importance of discovering its origins to the religious
influences that Shinto has embarked upon Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the Shinto s, the divine, natural, and human elements are closely related to one another. The Gods
and the spirits co exist with one another; the Gods exist with humans and nature, while the humans
exist with the Gods and nature. Nature, human beings, and deities act harmoniously with one another.
Nature, in turn, is a vital part of both the spiritual world and the human world; Japanese love and
reverence for nature lies at the root of Shinto . For many other religions, this is not the case. For
Western religions, the Creator and the created, and the human and natural realms do not relate with
one another immediately. The Shinto religion can again be seen acting in a more spiritual way than
any other religion. The spirituality of Shinto and its people can be expressed further:
Shinto was the religion of a pristine people who, above all, were sensitive to the spiritual forces that
pervaded the world of nature in which they lived.
Nature, spirits, and life s existence are important to the Shinto religion. The way in which spirits
existed towards humans can be seen as follows: In their world myriad spirits shone like fireflies and
every tree and bush could speak . Religion had manifested itself into the Shinto religion. Nature was
the main religious symbol of the religion. The kami, or religious Gods and spirits could be found
everywhere in the Shinto life and religion. The Gods in the Shinto religion are

Reflective Essay On Universal Education
Universal Education Countless countries benefit from a capitalistic system, but others, like Denmark,
the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic, have a more socialistic giving society, offering free or low
cost schools, universal medical care, as well as supportive welfare to citizens. The world would gain
from a higher quality of free education. My beliefs of a fair universal education offered to every child,
no matter their place of origin, are influenced by experiencing the benefits of free education growing
up in Czechoslovakia, by living in the Netherlands, and the United States. As a child growing up
under the strict influence of forbidden profits of capitalism and receiving the education free of charge,
socialistic ideals shape my worldview. Being born in Czechoslovakia (the Czech Republic since 1993)
under a communist, socialist regime with underlying suppressed democracy during the Soviet Union
occupation, my worldview is based on a child s idealistic views of living and equality of people. Even
though the restricted media and a limited amount of imported goods made it easier for the communist
government to influence and dictate the mainstream population, I was shielded from the political
world, because I was a child and only gaining the benefits of excellent education. In 4th Grade, many
students, including me and my brother, were selected and received a written proposal to be part of
selective public talent schools, covering programs like STEM, languages,

The Importance Of The CSI Effect On Crime Scene Investigation
Introduction Television has been around for years making money off of the public s interests. Starring
shows such as CSI Miami, Forensic Files, Cold Case, Bones, and many more demonstrate the
procedures of forensic science at active crime scenes. However, these shows have given the wrong
perception of forensic science and the procedures to investigating an active crime scene. These
television shows have made a lasting impact on the public s perception of Crime Scene Investigation
still today. Often times these shows have made it difficult for judges, attorneys, lawyers, and juries to
understand forensic science. CSI Effect Crime Scene Investigations are fascinating to the public and
have been portrayed on television for many years. These television shows have influenced how the
public perceives the procedures of investigating crime scenes. Forensic science and investigating a
crime scene is a very complex and unique career. Television has exaggerated and wrongly influenced
the perception of forensic science, crime scene investigation, and procedures in criminalistics. The
effect that these crime scene television shows have on the public is called the CSI Effect (Shelton,

Social media and make up, does it blend? Nowadays, everything is heavily influenced by social media
and makeup is no exception. Everyday makeup brands come up with new ideas on how to persuade

Moreover, it also comes with different eyeshadow textures, such as shimmers and mattes, which make
the palette feel complete and perfect to create a variety of looks. Makeup lovers would be delighted
with this, since they are sometimes tired of buying the same boring and normal eyeshadows, just like a
makeup enthusiast said, I find that many of my palettes seem to be lacking these types of colors. I also
appreciate the act that she included a few pops of color. Instead of appearing RANDOM, they actually
compliment the more neutral shadows in this palette. You can tell she put a ton of thought into each
color that she included (Kate). Thanks to the variety of colors, users are able to be more versatile and
creative with the looks they create, making it a perfect choice for anyone that wants to have some fun.
Pretty eyeshadow colors are important, but pigmentation is also a big factor of the quality of an
eyeshadow. When costumers see a vibrant red color in a palette, they expect it to look the exact same
way in their eyelids, and not as a pale red. In the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill palette, the eyeshadows have
great pigmentation and the colors look just as in the palette. Besides, applying the eyeshadows to the
face once it s enough to get a great coverage, which is great because consumers would waste less
product. The combination of great pigmentation and great coverage is something that any makeup
lover would love to have.

Social Media And International News Coverage
Terrorist attacks occur around the globe, but how does the location and the target affect the world s
response to the attack? The following will investigate two attacks that occurred in two very different
parts of the world at relatively the same time and the reasons for the disparity in their attention on
social media and international news coverage. The 2015 Baga Massacre occurred January 3 7 in the
Nigerian town of Baga. The series of mass killings was committed by Boko Haram, a Salafi jihadist
group. Boko Haram raided the regional Multinational Joint Task Force base, then turned on the locals.
Grabbing their machetes, a group of young men fought the attackers off, but a few hours later, Boko
Haram fighters returned with increased numbers and opened fire, forcing everyone to run. As many as
15,000 people fled to Chad with another 5,000 seeking refuge 100 miles away in the capital
Maiduguri (Fessy). Disputes exist about the number of fatalities, with estimates varying from 150 to
2,000 deaths, part of this indeterminacy is that the government did not make an effort to solidify the
death toll and no one stayed behind to count the bodies after Boko Haram ravaged the city (Fessy). On
January 7, 2015, two brothers Saïd and Chérif Kouachi attacked the French satirical newspaper offices
of Charlie Hebdo in Paris. The newspaper was known for printing satirized versions of religious and
political figures and printed controversial depictions of the Prophet Muhammad, which was the

did not attack them the night of the raid. On the night that police planned to raid Hampton s apartment,
he was at home sleeping. The police took it upon themselves to go into his home, and shoot him as he
was sleeping. Not only did they kill Fred Hampton, but they killed Mark Clark. Mark Clark was
another leader of the Black Panthers during the time, and he just so happened to be in Hampton s
apartment with him the night of the raid. This was not justified because Hampton had done nothing to
harm the police officers that night. It was already horrible enough that they decided to raid his home,
but then killing him took it over the edge. If they were attacked by Fred Hampton that would be a
more sufficient reason as to why the police officers felt like they had to shoot him. Although, the
Black Panthers were known for killing cops and revolutionary politics, but unless Fred Hampton was
in the act of trying to kill a cop, there is no reason why he had to be killed. In conclusion, Fred
Hampton s assassination

Easter Island Downfall
Adaptive Failure: Easter s End was written by Jared Diamond and was featured in Discover Magazine
in August of 1995, this article was mainly written to discuss the rise and fall of the Easter Island
civilization. Easter Island is the world s most isolated habitable land, more than 2,200 miles from the
nearest continent (South America), and 1,400 miles from the nearest habitable island (Pitcairn).
Diamond concluded that the rise of the Easter Island civilization was around 400 A.D. when the
Polynesian ancestors of the Easter Island people. Diamond stated that when the Polynesian ancestors
arrived the island was covered with heavily forested and fertile land, however by the 1400 s the forest
were destroyed and cause the people to revert to cannibalism once the animals died off and the people

feet long and 10 feet high weighing up to 10 tons.Another extremely astonishing thing I liked was that
the statues were transported many miles with no draft animals with just manpower, and no wheels.
Another extremely interesting thing was that in 1770 there were over 200 statues standing and by

Shear Wave Elastography Analysis
Shear wave elastography technique
Shear wave elastography{SWE} is a novel technique for obtaining elastograms of soft tissue by
tracking the transverse shear waves that spread laterally away from amechanical disturbance of the
tissue. They have special properties that differ from both the longitudinal waves of conventional
ultrasound imaging (which relies on the bulk modulus of elasticity) and from conventional
compression elastography. They travel at few metres per second, depending on the visco elastic
properties of the tissue, and are rapidly attenuated, so that for practically achievable disturbances they
have dissipated after travelling for afew centimeters(101).
SWE is based on the principle of acoustic radiation force. With use of light ... Show more content on

the information on the propagating shear wave including the velocity of the shear wave could be
measured by obtaining radiofrequency images with a high frame rate , which can be used to generate a
tissue displacement map. then ,the elastic property for quantitative estimation is calculated by the
propagating velocity of shear wave .ARFI, acoustic radiation force impulse, Woo Kyoung Jeong 2014)

The recommended technique for SWE was to image the lesion with no pressure induced by the
transducer. After a few seconds of immobilization to allow the SWE image to stabilize, the SWE
image was frozen and saved(104).
The size and location of the ROI was standardized as follows: The anterior posterior margin of the
ROI was manipulated to include the area from the subcutaneous fat layer to the pectoral muscle layer,
and the lateral margin was adjusted to include at least 5 mm of breast tissue adjacent to the lesions,
because the maximum areas of stiffness in malignant lesions were always found in the peritumoral
region rather than in the lesion itself

Taking a Look at Queen Elizabeth I
She is the last Tudor monarch, and the only virgin queen in her bloodline. Elizabeth I of England was
born on September 7, 1533 at Greenwich palace to Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII. After her sister,
Mary I, died on November 17, 1558, Elizabeth came back from her arrest to claim the throne. She is
known for being a cunning and shrewd survivalist. Since birth, her life has been about surviving all
the odds against her. As she fights her way to the top, the economy, the country s culture, science and
technology, government, and communication will change all around her. Because of her family,
Elizabeth was left with a crumbling economy. As each family member ruled, the collapsing economy
would worsen, and it was up to Elizabeth to rebuild what her family destroyed. Henry VIII had
changed the coinage so that the face value was less, and Mary I lost thousands of dollars to a war that
England was not involved in yet. To undo what her family did, she not only taxed the common people,
but she taxed those with more riches as well. As she spoke with her financial advisor, Thomas
Gresham, he had advised to change the coinage. From there, the queen melted down all coins with no
real value, and had a coinage that was newly minted with precious metals. In addition, she changed
the face of the coin from her sister to her. As they maintained the coinage s new value, the economy
slowly became stable. Not only did she have economic reforms, but she also has religious reforms.

Argumentative Essay On Homeschooling
Homeschooling, not very well known, presents a new and affordable way to educate children. Home
school is a term used to refer to the education of children by their parents or guardians in a setting
other than a public or private school (Anderman Anderman, p. 467). It has never been a new thing; it
just has not been as popular as it used to be (Lines, p. 76). With this topic meaning so much to groups
for and against the right for homeschooling and what should be legalized or not, the debate still rages
on from local to even national government entities. Both sides of the argument have valid points, but
ultimately it is the choice of the parents. There are many types of ways to educate children and that
decision is difficult for both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Surprisingly, there are a variety of people that do homeschooling. Both people from high income to
low income families. There are parents that even have doctorates or even a diploma in a general
subject. Families with either one or two parents and differing ethnics and religious or secular
inducement choose to homeschool (Ray 2002). Researchers come to the conclusion that
homeschoolers, for the most part, have free reign when it comes to their homework and school pace
that they feel that suits them the best.
Many concerns are expressed for homeschoolers. When it comes to homeschooling, the first point of
emphasis that critics point towards homeschoolers is the lack of socialization. Critics charge that home
schooled children will be socially handicapped and unable to adapt to real life interaction when older
(Jeub 1994). Ultimately, critiques get their conclusions with many observations and interviews that
show how they do not choose to, or are not incorporated in social events or activities. Critiques
imagine that the children are stuck with their parents all day and only go out when their parents allow
them or when they personally go out. With this environment, critiques envision that homeschoolers
get little to no cultural experience from their world surroundings (Anderman and Anderman, p. 468) In
essence, the assessment is a never ending speech from the critics that the number one flaw in
homeschool is socialization and the

Comparison Of My Math Strengths And Weaknesses
My Math Strengths and Weaknesses
As I am approaching the end of my educational career, it is time for me to evaluate how well I will do
teaching a subject I struggled in elementary school, math. Math is a subject I had a love hate
relationship with. I liked it when I was good and hated it when I struggled. I noticed this pattern not
only because of my abilities, but also of my teacher s abilities to teach the subject. My goal is not to be
a genius in math but I do want to be able to help and problem solve when my students have a struggle.
From kindergarten to the beginning of 1st grade, the math topic that is worked on is addition and
subtraction. According to the Texas Education Association, in kindergarten adding and subtraction ...

TEA say that students start doing repeated addition toward the end of second grade to help them
transition to multiplication in third grade (TEA, 2012). When I was in school I struggled in
multiplication, but I did not give up. What helped me get better was practice until I was able to master
each multiplication term. With the takeover of calculators, I became rusty, but in order to teach my
students, I will have to practice again just like when I was in elementary school. I also have to be
ready to take a step back and go over addition although the TEKS says to move on to multiplication.
I excel in shapes, and for elementary, shapes are taught all through out. In first grade the focus is to
identify and classifying 2 dimension shapes. In second grade they move on to composing their own 2
dimensional figure and classify 3 dimensional figures. (TEA, 2017.) For students just starting to see
shapes only know square and rectangle. There are far more variations of this common shapes like
parallelograms, and they might get confused. What I will do to prepare myself to teach these students
is create vocabulary in my mind that is at their level. This way I can further explain the formal
definition if there is any confusion.
We all struggle with word problems, but since I am going to be a teacher I don t have to be perfect but
I do need to have a sense of problem solving. What I would do to help me teach word problems is
work it out with them. That way I

The British East India changed the lives of both people in Britain and people in Asia. In Britain it
changed their lives by making them rich, introducing them to new products and providing them with

to Britain to be used by the people. It also introduced new things like tea and cloves.
The British East India Company was a trading company that traded with Britain and Asia. The
Company itself made lots of money through buying produce from people in Asia and selling it back in
Britain. The British East India Company had a very big army which they used against pirates on the

The British East India Company changed the lives of people in Britain by bringing them new unique

Tupac Shakur s The Rap Game
In 1998, Tupac Shakur released the song, Changes, directly dealing with the war on drugs, the
treatment of African Americans by police officers, and the struggles of living in the ghetto. Hip Hop
music in general tends to be very impactful towards the African American community. Tupac has
always stood out in the rap game because of his ability to be poetic and show feelings while being a
gangster rapper at the same time. Changes is one of Tupac Shakur s most famous songs. The rapper
compromises his more dominant bad boy gangster side to tackle African American social issues in this
song.
In the first few lines of the song Tupac writes, I m tired of bein poor and even worse I m black, my
stomach hurts, so I m lookin for a purse to snatch. These lines illustrate how a lot of black people in
America live in poverty and are not given as many opportunities to do good in society, so instead they
divert to committing crimes in order to just get by. This concept is repeated when he raps Give the
crack to the kids who the hell cares? One less hungry mouth on the welfare.
When Shakur states, Cops give a damn about a negro? Pull the trigger, kill a n*gga, he s a hero, he s
mentioning the controversial topic of how African Americans, more commonly African American
males, are targeted by the police and if a cop kills an African American male it s not a big deal. I

Considerations For Effective Organizational Change
What Is Organizational Change?
Organizational change is the term used to describe the transformation process that a company goes
through in response to a strategic reorientation, restructure, change in management, merger or
acquisition or the development of new goals and objectives for the company. The realignment of
resources and the redeployment of capital can bring many challenges during the transformation
process and organizational change management seeks to address this by adopting best practice
standards to assist with the integration of new company vision.
Organizational change is not just change for the sake of change itself. The major precursor for
organizational change is some form of exogenous force such as an external ... Show more content on

If workers don t embrace or see the reason for change, resentment and resistance can occur You have
to emphasize the positive reason for the change and convey it to the workers. This way, improve the
chances of support.
For effective organizational change, you should create a transition management team. You should also
select a change leader from every department and conduct regular meetings. This will comprise the
transition team that can drive the change initiatives and help facilitate and implement the initiatives
throughout the various departments. This also provides a support structure for the initiatives.
Resources should be provided to the transition management team.
Additional Considerations For Effective Organizational Structure:
Evaluation of the aesthetic appeal is essential for effective organizational change. The plan should be
clear defined goals and rationale and should be concise. Ensure that the decision makers within the
organization are onboard. Any change in the policy affects the operation of the organization which
needs broad approval at some levels.
Ensure you adequately define the nature of the changes. This will help team members and employees
to interpret the core objectives.
You should measure whether the change has taken place or not. Often this process is neglected but to
ensure effective organizational change you need to have predefined benchmarks to measure
implementation progress.

There Are Many Beneficial Reasons Behind Eating Meat
There are many beneficial reasons behind eating meat. Some believe that red meat causes cancer and
contributes to heart complications. However, there is plenty of nutritional gain that a persons body can
benefit from by simply adding meat into their weekly diet regimens . Meat contains large amounts of
protein, which the body needs in order to develop and maintain muscle mass. Not only does meat
contain protein, it additionally contains iron, and zinc that a person s body essentially needs to help
improve their overall health.
Sources of meat contain a large amount of protein, which your body needs for numerous reasons.
Every human body is made up of 20% protein including amino acids that are the building blocks of it.
In that 20% in which your body is made up with protein, one of the ways the amino acids are being
used is to produce blood, skin, blood, hormones, and cartilage throughout the body. Consuming
animal meat also helps your muscles stay healthy by simply breaking the protein down into amino
acids, which is then transported throughout the blood stream. Throughout this process, the amino acids
are then delivered to different parts of the body. One of those areas is which to be the muscles that will
then begin to absorb the molecules. Once the molecules are absorbed, the body will then begin to heal
and repair the muscle. The amino acids that your body breaks down from protein found in red meat,
aids in the healing of wounds not only in the muscle as stated

Education Is An Important Part Of Society
Education was an important part of society. Since the Cold War and the Soviet Union s successful
launch of Sputnik in October of 1957, improvements of education was necessary. In the 1960 s, John

students all around the world. His proposals were to ensure that every race, and religion would receive
a good education. However, not every child was receiving the same education opportunities based on
money issues surrounding them and the minority they were classified as, the No Child Left Behind
Act of 2001 was to ensure that these issues would be dissolve. On January 8th of 2002, six months and

Under the No Child Left Behind, every state was required to develop and implement strict academic
standards in reading and math. These standards obliged by law to every student regardless of ethnicity,
social class, or mental ability to ensure that in twelve years, one hundred percent of students could
demonstrate satisfactory skills (Hudson 44). The law also required states to create their own test and
assessments, to be administrated to the third through eighth grade annually. The results of these tests
determined how much funding the school would get. If the test scores were low, the school would not
get as much funds as a school with high test score would get. Underperformance schools

  • 2. A Brief Note On Science And Its Effects On The Middle Of A... Dylan Fox Professor Brinkerhoff 3/4/15 Advanced Ecology Midterm (1) Why is scale important in ecology? Ecology is the study of the distribution and abundance of organisms, their interactions between each other and their environment, and the structure and function of ecosystems. To this end, the scale (spatial, functional, temporal, organizational, etc.) at which we observe nature and the multitude of environments that comprise it is an extremely important factor in the study of ecology. Dumping sewage effluent in the middle of a small pond is not going to register even a slight disturbance on a global or even regional scale , but there is a still massive disturbance to the organisms at the small scale of that pond ecosystem. Similarly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Large scale variations in these gradients are easy to observe, like an ecotone transitioning grassland into desert. Smaller scale variations are harder to detect with the naked eye, and micro variations in habitat are harder to see still. The physical size of environmental heterogeneity / variation is not indicative of its importance to biodiversity or its ecological relevance, however, as Hutchinson reveals in his 1959 paper. He discusses the importance of the mosaic nature of the environment as a significant contributor to biodiversity. While large scale variations in habitat are certainly important factors in organismal diversity and are responsible for niche differentiation, smaller scale and even microscopic habitat variations are arguably just as (if not more) important factors that contribute to biodiversity around the globe. Because the vast majority of animal species on Earth are physical small, even the tiny variations in a landscape that define its mosaic nature allow for more numerous and specialized niche differentiations than larger (and less numerous) land animals can fill . Hutchinson s mosaic nature postulate was an extremely important breakthrough in modern Ecology, and helped spawn further research into the importance of examining nature at many different scales microscopic, macroscopic, and everything in between. Scale is an extremely important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Role Of The Gods In The Aztec Civilization Most ancient civilizations, including the Aztecs were polytheistic yet most modern religions are monotheistic, so what caused the change from hundreds of Gods to just one. I believe that the reason for this phenomenon can be seen in the Aztec civilization dating back to the sixth century in Mexico. In the beginning, they worshipped dozens of Gods, but as the Spanish Conquest drew closer and the Aztec empire began to fall, fewer and fewer Gods were worshipped. A prime example of this is two of their Gods of agriculture, Xipe Totec and Tlaloc. While both were major Gods throughout Aztec history, as time went on the two slowly became indistinguishable from each other until only Tlaloc was left, and then as modern day approached, not even him If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall, a simple, tragic piece of history that tells us a bit about what happened to the overall Aztec belief system. Some Gods, such as their sun Gods Tonatiuh and Huitzilopochtli were worshipped in the form of Jesus. Some survived with the Nahuas, the modern day descendants of the Aztecs. Most were simply forgotten, the obvious reason for which being that there was no room for them in the monotheistic Catholic religion. As to why Xipe Totec was worshipped in the years proceeding this event, I have a theory; as all cultures spread, I believe that the version of Aztec mythology that worshipped Xipe Totec spread to the city of Tenochtitlan, one of, if not the most studied cities by modern historians. This in turn may have created a few decades where Tlaloc and Xipe Totec coexisted as two important Gods. However, I feel this may have created an inaccuracy, as some historians might assume that what happened in Tenochtitlan happened in the rest of the empire (the worship of Xipe Totec for example); this is what I consider to be the main reason Xipe Tote is considered to be important to the Aztecs today while he wasn t important back ... • 4. Environmental Factors Affecting Intelligence Quotient Environmental Factors and Genetic Trait that influences a Child s Intelligence Quotient Intelligence of a person involves the ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend complex ideas, learn quickly, and learn from experience. It is not merely book learning, a narrow academic skill, or test taking smarts. Rather, it reflects a broader and deeper capability for comprehending our surroundings catching on, making sense of things, or figuring out what to do. (Makharia et al, 2016, p.1 3) There are a couple of factors that determines a child s intelligence quotient (IQ). The first factor is genetic trait. Naturally, parents pass on some traits to their offspring. This could be eye color, shape, size, height and blood type. A person s intelligence is also something that is inherited, but the environment determines if a person reaches their inherited intelligence potential. It is believed that genetic traits start developing from prenatal period; thus, the unborn child learns and become familiar with sound, taste, music and many more. After birth, environmental factors such as place of residence, family income, education, interpersonal relationships with people and among other factors develops the passed on traits from parents. In most cases, it is believed that children born into a wealthy family would have high IQ than children born into a low income family. This is because children born into a wealthy family would have access to good learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

LIVED EXPERIENCES OF WOMEN DIAGNOSED WITH HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS Introduction Human Papillomavirus (HPV) has been dubbed as the most common sexually transmitted infection that does not require sexual penetration for it to spread. Individuals infected with HPV may be asymptomatic or they may acquire genital warts or cancer depending on the strains that have infected them. With more than 100 strains identified, the most commonly spread strains that result to genital warts and cancer are 6 and 11, 16 and 18, respectively. These common strains are currently vaccine preventable with cervarix (for type 16 and 18) and Gardasil (types 6, 11, 16 and 18). In 2007, Australia led the first vaccine program with Gardasil which have successfully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is noted that statistics on HPV infection is nil worldwide, nationally or locally. Treatment of the virus requires constant visitation to medical practitioners. According to Workowski et al (2010), genital warts may have various recommended treatment regimen depending on considerable factors each with its own side effects but this does not remove the virus but only removes the growth. Treating HPV related cancers (penile, anogenital, oropharyngeal, cervical) on the other hand is another roller coaster experience. Disappointingly, very few studies highlight the experiences of the individuals suffering from HPV. Hence, this study is aimed in understanding the lived experiences of women with human papillomavirus. Through this qualitative study, health care providers may be able to analyze the personal perceptions, life changes, success and adversities of these patients. It is the hope of the researcher that the findings of the study would be utilized in checking and improving the current nursing practice to enable health care providers to create a more holistic method of care and management for women with HPV. Review of Literature Human Papillomavirus (HPV) HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) among men and women that may infect the mouth, throat, genitalia and anus resulting to genital warts formation or cancer. Alexander The Great Leader Alexander the Great was a great leader because he was always determined to be successful, even when he was young he wanted to win and he always had good morals and a good way of life. Alexander always loved Greece and was selfless when he was young. Alexander kept these traits and developed as a leader and used them while he was conquering other countries. Alexander initially brought 40,000 men to take over Persia, knowing he would get more men from the places he took over. He spread the Greek ways and he could do anything he wanted because he was such a dominant leader because he was the best at strategizing and tactical warfare. One example of innovative tactics is when he had his men cross the Tiber River, so they could sneak up on the Persians and destroy their army with a surprise attack. This led him to a great victory with using a small army against a very big one. This is an example of his army being efficient. In his youth, Alexander studied war tactics with his mentors instead of going out and wasting time on games. He was forged to be a great, dominant leader. Alexander was very good at deciding between fair and honorable and this was a hard thing to do that helped his military career a lot. Alexander had amazing pre war speeches and this one consisted of him telling the soldiers their existence depended on their effort in the war. This particular war he did not have many soldiers compared to the Persians, but his superior tactics led him to victory. Alexander set up his army with cavalry in the middle with archers on both sides of that, and on the sides of the archers were soldiers on foot with non ranged weapons. This tactic is a great tactic because the archers can provide cover for soldiers or the calvary. Alexander had two other people who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These alternative measures are designed to meet the needs of students who may not have an opportunity to be successful within the traditional school setting. Although, students are the primary constituents of education, they are not the sole culprits of reform in education. The needs for alternative educational programs include aspects such as population decline, economic issues, and the need for better learning experiences. Charter Schools allow teachers and a local school board to determine decisions regarding education. Likewise, the teachers and the local school board are also held accountable, in regards to student performance. In regards to magnet schools, students are given an opportunity to learn through themes. Henceforth, these themes are usually centered on the talents of the students. For example, a magnet school could be designed around performing arts. The School Within A School is similar to the magnet school idea. Consequently, these alternative school programs allow students to learn through their individual interests. However, there are other forms of alternative programs. Multi Aged Classrooms is designed based on the layout of the school. In a Multi Aged Classroom setting, students are not grouped according to their age, but are grouped based on developmental stages. Therefore, all students are grouped in one classroom with numerous teachers. The students receive one on one instruction. Therefore, the instructional process is delivered based on the needs of a particular student. Another aspect of alternative programs deals with the economic and the environment of the school. In a School/ Community Economic Development the primary focus is on the local economy. The students work with municipal planners, research spending patterns, and start up of student businesses. In the Community Based School, the school draws on the local environment as a way to make abstract concepts and textbooks lessons more meaningful. Finally, the last alterative program is the Year Round School idea. This approach is designed to keep students in school longer durations of time with short breaks in between. The following will investigate two attacks that occurred in two very different parts of the world at relatively the same time and the reasons for the disparity in their attention on social media and international news coverage. The 2015 Baga Massacre occurred January 3 7 in the Nigerian town of Baga. The series of mass killings was committed by Boko Haram, a Salafi jihadist group. Boko Haram raided the regional Multinational Joint Task Force base, then turned on the locals.
