A Personal Review Of Kayla Moore s Autobiography
Coming back to you as a LET 2, I am Kayla Moore, bringing you an interesting autobiography with a
grabbing introduction! This time around, I am sending it your way as a sophomore at Campbell
County High School. My life is actually immensely boring, so I ll try to make this brief, but not too
brief. On August 19, 2000, I was born into a family of two, my mother, Tammy Johnson, and my
father, Terry Moore, in a hospital located in Oak ridge, Tennessee. When I reached the proper age I
went to Valley View Elementary School, next Lafollette Middle School, and presently, Campbell
County High School. Although I was born in a completely different place, I have lived Lafollette all
my life. Eight years after that exciting day, my brother, Daniel Moore, was born in the exact same ...

India Is Not an Easy Market to Understand and Operate in.
1. India is not an easy market to understand and operate in. Why is the Indian market untenable for
Multinational Companies, yet at the same time attractive to global businesses? Discuss.
It is true that India is not an easy market to understand and operate in. MNCs have realized this the
hard way as their expectations have remained unfulfilled, and many have either suffered reverses or
have had to wrap up their operations. Unable to figure out the reason for their failure, they have
chosen to blame the market as erratic and fickle in its behavior.
But this is not true as there is more to India than meets the eye. This country came under the global
spotlight only in 1991 when it embraced economic reforms and allowed FDI. Before that ... Show

Therefore, Coca Cola and Pepsi ran up loses and were unable to understand why the Indians have not
taken to cola like fish to water as seems to be the case with Americans. They are, however, unable to
understand that cola will never replace water which has a pride of place over all other beverages and is
viewed as an elixir of life in India, not to mention the fact that the Indians are aware that cola is just
carbonated water which rots ones teeth and that there is a move to ban it in the US schools information
that the Indians have acquired from the satellite TV boom.
Similarly, when Nestle introduced iced tea in India, they were confident of their strategy which rested
on the research data which pointed out that this was a country of the highest number of tea drinkers in
the world and would embrace iced tea in the natural course of things.
What their strategy missed out on and what their research did not inform them was the fact that
Indians like their tea hot even on a hot summer day! They would reach out for a cold drink if they
wanted something cold but it was simply alien to their conditioning and upbringing to be able to relate
with the concept of having tea any other way than hot.
Hence, the global strategies don t suit India as the nature of emerging market economies is
fundamentally different from

Essay On Normative Work
Focus Area 1: Normative Work
The UN has served as the key forum where Member States and experts have developed universal
norms and standards in conventions, declarations, regulatory frameworks, agreements, guidelines,
codes of practice and other standard setting instruments, at national and regional levels. The UN s
normative work in Afghanistan operates at three categories: a) support in the development of norms
and standards; b) support in integrating norms and standards into legislation, policies and development
plans; and c) support in implementing legislation, policies and development plans based on the
international norms, standards and conventions. On the one hand, the UN s normative work acts as a
foundation for the work of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather, it builds on decades of lessons learned and experience and will also facilitate the insertion of
any country in international exchanges and trade or movement of persons and goods or simply provide
common references when two countries discuss border management, educational standards or
combatting illegal trade. The UN also assists with regional coordination to assist countries to establish
norms and to implement transnational actions in complex areas, such as regional activities under the
1988 Convention to prevent chemical precursors being smuggled into Afghanistan for use in the illicit
manufacture of drugs, and support to regional peace negotiation efforts.
The UN has developed unique expertise in training people on how to adopt and work with the

governments and other stakeholders (civil society or private sector) toward the new operating
conditions they often create. In Afghanistan, as elsewhere, the normative work is part of the ongoing
relationship with government counterparts and as such does not take place only through established
bilateral or multi agency mechanisms of dialogue with counterparts. For example, the entire protection
architecture, with its multiple subsidiary bodies (clusters and working groups), relies on a large and
expanding set of norms from

Dynamic Characterism In The Keeper Of The Virgins
In The Keeper of the Virgins, Hanan Al Shaykh creates a dynamic character of the dwarf. While in the
beginning of the story, the dwarf was an outcast from society and his family when he enters the
convent he gains acceptance. His family was embarrassed by him, however, after he enters the
convent, they begin to worry about him and his well being. Inside the convent walls, he finds a divine
and an overwhelming acceptance, missing in the outside world and his family. In the convent he
receives unconditional love from the nuns, unlike the hate and darkness outside.
In The House Behind, Lydia Davis establishes a divide between social classes through the creation of
the front house and the back house. Their separation is meaningful in that it represents the divide in
society between the rich and the poor. It represents the difference in power. The setting does not
change in the story, however the people s attitudes do. There s an increase in uneasiness from the
house in front after the murder. Those in the house behind became ashamed by the actions of their
neighbor. Through the association between front and superior there is an indirect connection
established. The courtyard connects the two houses as a common ground for interaction, however, it
seems to instead serve as a separator between the two.
In Wilderness Tips, Margaret Atwood writes with a third person omniscient point of view. This allows
the reader to understand all character s actions and emotions without a bias towards any one main
character. Throughout the short story the point of view remains constant. By choosing this point of
view, Atwood establishes each character (George, Portia, Prue, Pamela, and Roland), allowing the
reader to understand the story through an unbiased perspective. The reader is able to establish their
own opinion due to the lack of influence from the narrator on character bias. By focusing the narration
on Portia s weakness towards George s consistent infidelity, she s able to establish the characterization
until her breaking point, suicide. Similarly, in the narration about George the reader gains a deeper
understanding into his persona.
In The First Day, Edward P. Jones follows a largely chronological method of

Overpopulation Is The Problem
Kuo, G. (2012). MegaCrisis? Overpopulation is the problem. World Future Review, 4(3), 23 32.
Gioietta Kuo discusses overpopulation as the main problem causing all of life s problems on earth
today. Moreover, if the problem is not rectified, the world faces extinction from a shortage of
resources such as food, water, and land. Furthermore, the implied message is that overpopulation
needs to be addressed, because without reducing the inhabitants in the world, humanity will run out of
the means to sustain even the current population. This article relates to Connecting the Dots between
Species Extinction, Overpopulation, and the Use of Resources by Marshall Marcus, because Marcus
also believes that the extinction of any species can be traced back to the increase of the world s
population. Additionally, both authors feel that overpopulation is the cause for many of earth s
problems such as environmental destruction, climate change, and food shortage to name a few. With
all the data, facts and references, I feel this article credible. Using this information in my paper will
help argue my opinion on overpopulation.
Mankiw, N. Gregory. (1998). Be fruitful and multiply. (analysis of arguments for single child families)
(Brief Article)(Column). Fortune, 138(5), 48 52. Gregory Mankiw argues in his article that
overpopulation fears have been discussed for years and stem from claims that resources are limited

Essay on Discrimination in The Merchant of Venice
Discrimination is a resounding theme in The Merchant of Venice (Meyers). All of the characters are
affected by inequality. This inequity is evidenced clearly in Shylock, the Jewish usurer. He is treated
with scorn and derision by all the characters. Shylock s misfortunes stem not from poor attributes or
even a poor background; it stems from the fact he is Jewish, and what is more, he is impenitent of that
distinction. If he had been more daunted by Christian influence, he might have been forgiven, as
Jessica is subjectively exonerated. He is not contrite and it is believed that his appalling birth cannot
be absolved (Bonnell).
All of the characters are defined through Shylock. Launcelot Gobbo, Shylock s servant, treats his

As it is, all she can do to maintain her father s estate is to follow the decrees of the lottery to the letter.
If she refuses to follow all of the instructions of the lottery, she loses her inheritance. Portia is no fool;
she comprehends the importance of financial security, a quality that is woefully wanting in her male
counterparts.
The cycle of hatred and animosity are evident in The Merchant of Venice most clearly through Jessica
s deplorable treachery of Shylock (Blanchard). The theft of his money and jewels was considered by
the Christians a credit to her integrity rather than the consummate maliciousness it truly is. She is
absolved from any culpability for her betrayal of Shylock; she is praised for her ability to deceive and
defraud her father in a culture that sanctioned paternal piety (Picker). She marries the Christian
Lorenzo in hopes of improved egalitarianism; she soon discovers that this will not be the case. Her
profound guilt and strict upbringing as a Jewish female are revealed in the conversation between
herself and Lorenzo: Jessica: I am never merry when I hear sweet music. Lorenzo: The man that hath
no music in himself, Nor is moved with concord to sweet sounds, Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and
spoils The motions of his spirit are as dull as night, And his affections are as dark as Erebus. Let no

The Role That Electronic Tagging
This essay seeks to evaluate the role that electronic tagging can play in crime prevention, both in
terms of it s potential to reduce crime, and it s implications for rights and liberties. Firstly this essay
will give a brief history of how electronic tagging was implemented, it s application and for what
purposes it is used. It will discuss whether it has been a useful contribution as a method of situational
crime prevention; by means of a deterrence, lower re offending rates, increased public safety, cost
affective, the use of multi disciplinary agencies, and how well this method has been implemented,
managed and controlled. Or, whether it has had an adverse effect on society, by failing to reduce
crime, and wasting public funds. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In England and Wales, during the 1980 s tracking and electronic monitoring became the forefront of
policy maker s agenda to tackle young, low risk offenders released from prison, or as an alternative
community order for those who potentially may have been subject to a custodial sentence. Electronic
monitoring can be defined as a system of home confinement aimed at monitoring and controlling and
modifying the behaviour of defendants or offenders (Prisoners Reform Trust, 1997, as cited in Ardley,
2005), and was introduced by the Criminal Justice Act, 1991 (HMI Probation, 2012). Electronic
monitoring was founded upon the notion of tracking offenders movements, then expanded to include
curfew tagging, which involves confining offenders to their homes, (Nellis, 2004) and came into
practice in the U.K in 1995 (Ardley, 2005). Foremost, electronic monitoring was developed with the
goal that it would provide a more cost effective solution to custodial sentences, thus reducing the
prison population, with no added risk to the public. To diminish the risk of learnt criminal behaviour
through communication through offenders mixing with other offenders in custody, as identified by
Sutherland s Differential Association Theory (Newburn, 2009), and attempting to reduce stigma and
disruption to family life (Ardley, 2005).
Electronic monitoring relies on the notion that surveillance and control in the communities would
restrict an offender s power and opportunity

The Diamonds by Ravi Landeck Essay
Ravi Landeck Short Story Third Draft The Diamonds Deep in the Alps lies a small town called Clay.
The sun was rising over a frosty blue mountain, and drops of dew dripped down from the leaves in the
valley. Arthur awoke to find his bedroom filled with light. He went downstairs and drank a glass of
water, not hungry enough for food. Arthur went outside into the chilly morning and started walking
down the road. The road was lined with hundreds of huge alpine trees. A large flock of birds flew over
Arthur s head in the sky. Arthur! Hey Arthur! Arthur turned his head to see his two friends James and
Derek . The three of them had been best friends for years. Hey guys Arthur said. James winked at him.

ran toward the bag. Arthur knelt down next to it and examined it, eyeing it curiously. The bag was
sealed shut with tape. Derek drew his knife and handed it to Arthur. Here . James raised his eyebrows.
Derek looked down, squinting his eyes and frowning. Arthur cut the seal with a fluid motion of the
knife, and unzipped the bag. There it was. Hundreds of bright, polished diamonds, shining in the
forest. I ll be damned! James exclaimed. It s a miracle! Diamonds! Arthur laughed and Derek jumped
with joy. Holy shit! Derek said. My God! said Arthur. The three of them patted each other on the backs
and shook hands, laughing. This is amazing! said Arthur. Unbelievable! said Derek. How on earth did
these get here? James asked smiling. The diamonds were as big as golf balls, and some as small as
grains of rice. Each one was clear and shimmering. This is the loot of a world class thief! Derek said
and picked up the bag. Derek carried the bag on his shoulder, smiling proudly. And now its ours! Were
rich! Arthur and James followed behind. Arthur ran forward and did a cartwheel. This has to be worth

What s Eating Gilbert Grape
What s Eating Gilbert Grape is a 1993 American drama film written by Peter Hedges and directed by
Lasse Hallstrom. The film s main characters are Johnny Depp as Gilbert Grape and Leonardo
DiCaprio as Arnie Grape. The film depicts the burden of family caretaking and the affect it has on a
family both mentally, physically, and financially. Gilbert is the primary caregiver for his mentally and
developmentally disabled seventeen year old brother Arnie (who has the mental capacity of a young
child), his morbidly obese mother Bonnie, known as Mama, and his two sisters Amy and Ellen. Amy,
the oldest daughter, shares most of the household chores with Gilbert and helps with Arnie s care. She
plays the mother figure role for Arnie even though Arnie s mother is alive. Ellen, the youngest
daughter, is very negative in her feelings toward her family. She doesn t help much with the family
because she is busy being a teenage girl.
The movie takes place in the fictional small Midwestern town of Endora, Iowa. Gilbert says in the
film s opening voiceover, Describing Endora is like dancing to no music...nothing much happens here,
and never will, In one of the scenes, we understand that the father could not handle the pressures of
life so he committed suicide 15 years earlier by hanging himself in the basement. Gilbert is concerned

Why Should We Make Decisions On Experiences That They...
able to make decisions on experiences that they themselves could not understand. This really raised a
lot of questions to me about who is in power and how big of a problem it is the those in power are not
more diverse. We have struggled in society and have imprisoned so many behind stone walls of
racism, sexism, and homophobia (Rudacille 140).
It also raised awareness that the very same acts done by heterosexual couples were acceptable, and not
punishable in the confines of the home, but that gays were not even safe in private. After the decision
in Lawrence v Texas made by the U.S. Supreme Court, it was understood that the gay community had
a chance to move forward into the light even more, and that their fight for freedom would not
disappear. By declaring that it is unconstitutional to make arrests against gays in the home, it also
declared that homosexuals should have the same rights as everyone else. It made it more acceptable
and brought homosexuality into the light to where it was okay to talk about and dispute. Not only was
it just an invasion of liberty, as the Court thought , but also the case enforced a bad law, a Homosexual
Status Law, which made being gay a crime.
In writing this paper, I went back to the very beginning of our discussions, and looked at my very first
discussion post on the Stonewall Uprising. I realized, that while we did do a lot of court case focused

Fiji Water And Its Impact On Fiji
Fiji Water is everywhere in pop culture, celebrities drink it such as the Obamas and are used in hotels
and by chefs. It placed everywhere for everyone to see, to make people want to buy this water more

the company, their practices, and involvement in the Fiji Islands that are were never made known to
public or just false claims and statements. Fiji Water implies with their statements that they re the

the responsibility of Fiji Water to be open and honest with their consumers, stockholders, and to the

Electric Grid Shutdown Paper
The U.S electric power system provides power to over 300 million individuals and is comprised of
more than 200,000 miles lines of transmission, its generating capacity is over one million megawatts
and it is worth above $1 trillion (Markey Waxman, 2013). The elements of the network are greatly
interdependent and, as demonstrated by history, a system failure of a line of outage can result in fall in
other areas. Markey Waxman (2013) provides an example of a power failure that occurred on August
14, 2003 when four hanging high altitude lines of power in northern Ohio clashed into trees and shut
off. Together with an error in a computer system, the shut down lead to a flow of failures that finally

When one grid s part fails, it can lead to cascading failure phenomenon whereby the entire network
progressively collapses. Kiger (2016) noted that; for a system that relies upon several critical nodes,
like the United States electric grid, such cascading failures are pretty much unavoidable.
Ramifications of an Electric Grid Shutdown
The vulnerability caused by the electric grid shutdown creates considerable risks to the economy and
national security of the United States and also on the private businesses conducted in the nation.
Consequences on National Security
The United States electrical grid is essentially divided into three electric networks covering Texas, the
West and the East. All these networks comprise many thousands of miles of lines of transmission,
substations and power plants, a hundred year old combination of domestic utilities (Broick, 2013).
Recently the system has been modernized and thus has been experiencing cyber attack threat. The
increasing dependence on the communications based on the internet has raised the vulnerability of the
operation and control systems to hackers and spies. National security of the U.S. reported that the
Cyber spies have made a way into the electrical grid of the nation and left behind software programs
that would be applied to disrupt the system and maybe shut down areas of the network for a
considerably long period of time (Broick, 2013). A coordinated cyber attack could thus compromise
security, blackout commerce and destroy the power grid of the United

The Church s Role In Ancient Russian Society And Politics
The church s role in ancient Russian society and politics was also significant since it encountered a
semi pagan society with many barbarian practices and crude customs in the late tenth and early
eleventh centuries. These included a primitive form of marriage in which the wife was abducted or
purchased, polygamy, slavery, blood feuds and many other rituals society would deem cruel and
barbaric today. (131, Engelstein) While the church did not immediately eliminate ingrained habits and
prejudices, it gradually imparted new ideas and attitudes by educating people, changing morals, and
preparing the people to accept new standards. The church opposed barbaric customs such as blood
feuds and, together with secular leaders, attempted to formulate judicial norms and establish
appropriate punishments that fit the nature of and reasons for crimes. In these actions, the church
deeply penetrated the legal and moral foundations of society. This is another example of how the
Christianization of Russia started to shape politics and the culture of Russia specifically from some of
the earliest times of Russian society. (133, Engelstein) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

who were threatened by death or slavery in these barbaric times. In this instance, the church acted as
guardian as well as the government. This is yet another example of the construction of influence the
church had in shaping Russian culture and government. (134,

Examples Of Identity Formation In The Outsiders
Identity formation and point of view is affected by stereotypes and life circumstances. In S.E. Hinton s
The Outsiders circumstances and stereotypes makes the characters struggle with who they are. The
Outsiders is told from the point of view of Ponyboy. Ponyboy is golden and unconcerned with
stereotypes and through him we observed how the other characters are affected by those stereotypes.
The characters identity formations are delayed by stereotypes; greasers are seen as dirty, low life

explored throughout The Outsiders.
Dally and Johnny are two characters that display how their experiences and greaser stereotypes shape
them throughout the novel. Johnny is unable to form his identity because of the difficulties in his
relationships with his family and the Greasers. If you can picture a little dark puppy that has been

Podcast 1 Response Essay
Podcast 1 Response: How to be More Productive In my life I find it very easy to be productive if you
stay motivated and focused on the tasks at hand (as mentioned in the podcast); however, I find it very
easy to get distracted by others, televisions, or even social media. One connection I can make involves
my work with a lab group I was assigned to work with during a summer program. Our task was to
complete a final project on the basis of plant pigment labs. Now reflecting on the work I did with my
group, I realized that we all followed many of the productivity tips that Charles Duhigg mentioned
such as including everyone equally in the team, socializing sparingly, creating trust with one another,
and setting goals to be reached. My group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, my assumption was the complete opposite and I now know from the podcasts that people who
work on multiple tasks at the same time that are different from each other are more productive because
different tasks lead to learning which assigns values to the tasks. When someone has meaning for the
tasks at hand then he or she will be more productive. Another misconception that I believed was that
productivity and efficiency were the same thing, but from the podcast I know they are different.
Productivity involves being more alert with one s surroundings and focusing on certain tasks to
accomplish instead of just doing things mindlessly in a quick manner. Something I assumed would
increase productivity but was not sure until I listened to the podcast was reflection on the past. My
APUSH teacher Mr. Lee gave my class several times to reflect because he said we never actually do
so on our own time. Now I know from the podcast that reflecting allows us to see if we are doing
meaningful things (having meaning associated with tasks leads to productivity) and if not then we can
adjust our lives to be more meaningful hence increasing

Function Of Soliloquies In Hamlet
The Functions of Soliloquies in Hamlet. Soliloquies are a powerful writing device that can help a
writer with a large array of different things. Shakespeare uses these speeches in Hamlet quite often
and they became an important functioning feature in the story. Soliloquies helped Shakespeare to give
the readers insight into the emotion of Hamlet and Claudius through their narration directly to the
audience. These addresses to the audience fit the role of developing the plot through exposition of
plans via character narrations. The many monologues in Hamlet serve these functions to allow the
story to progress steadily and smoothly. Hamlet s first soliloquy exists in order to give both an insight
into Hamlet s emotional state and a small background on what has happened in the recent months to
put him in that state. Hamlet tells the audience that he feels disgusted with his mother for marrying
Claudius within two months of Hamlet Sr. dying. This monologue also easily explains to the audience
that Hamlet feels distraught over the loss of his father. Hamlet is just like us... his mysterious inner
life, his roller coaster of emotions...his conflicted feelings about his parents... (Hamlet). Hamlet s
heartache over his father s death and mother s quick wedding causes him to experience inner struggles
throughout the majority of the play. This soliloquy has the role of keeping the fluidity of the play by
using one of the characters in the play to temporarily act as a narrator

An Augmentation Over The Current Governance Curriculum
As indicated by the economic expert, Edmund Phelps, his proposal can aid the working poor by
allowing employers to receive taxation quotations for hiring employees at a disadvantage. In which
case, seems to be a commodity arrangement that is considered an augmentation over the current
governance curriculum. Any arrangement, which promotes a manager to contract mass individuals
who are at a fault, is practical for the economy, especially since more individuals are employed. In
fact, it should be the administration s main objective to lessen the quantity of individuals who are on
welfare or guaranteeing unemployment. Indubitably, generating credits for managers who are willing
to employ individuals on welfare and out of work, only advocates ... Show more content on

Indeed, even the U.S. Armed force has opened numerous employment opportunities for women,
despite the fact that there is still controversy and an extraordinary resistance against this change.
Different drawbacks incorporate, long breaks at work because of numerous reasons, for example, time

who lacks training or work experience is thought to be at a disadvantage. For instance, The Hire
Heroes Act of 2011 is a Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) project, which is overseen by the IRS

The Legalization Of Physician Assisted Suicide
It is obvious discussing physician assisted suicide is a very controversial issue that is discussed daily
by those who wish to die to avoid loss of dignity and also by those who think it is unethical. For
physician assisted suicide to even be considered, the patient must be of sound mind when they are
requesting death with dignity. Physician assisted suicide should be a legal option for people who are
unable to end their own lives. However, there should be safeguards to prevent any sort of abuse. There
should be the legalization of physician assisted suicide, but not for active euthanasia. It should never
be contemplated as a substitute for comprehensive comfort care or for working with patients to resolve
the physical, personal, and social challenges posed by the process of dying (Meier, D.E., p. 294). If an
incurable patient who is suffering asks for specific help in physician assisted suicide, physicians
should have the obligation to fully scrutinize the request. Not only is it the seriousness of considering
medicine as the placement of certain suicide an issue, it is a form of direct killing. Medical advances
are surely making it easier to reduce pain and suffering, so why should there be policies devised and
sanctioned by the state to kill those in pain and suffering?
An article in the journal of the American Medical Association by Ethics and Health Policy argues that
allowing physicians to assist in the suicide of hopelessly ill patients will violate the nature of

What Extent Do Liberals Support Democracy
To what extent do liberals support democracy (45 marks)
Democracy is the ultimate political form of ideological liberalism. It refers to the ideal form of state,
and is common to both classical and modern liberals.
In the 19th century, liberals often saw democracy as threatening or dangerous. Political theorists such
as Plato and Aristotle viewed democracy as being a system of rule at the expense of wisdom and
property. The principle that the will of the majority should prevail over the minority may have
negative effects. In Northern Ireland, a very divided religious country, if the 51% get their way, the
other 49% will be in outrage. Democracy thus comes down to the rule of the 51%, as French politician

Therefor although citizens may vote for a leader, they will then make decisions based on a small
number of peoples view for the majority of the people. The minority ruling the majority.
However a reason why liberals support democracy is that it shows each individual is equal one vote
per person, gives everyone equal influence on how countries governed. Since voting is done
individually, it constraints the collective pressures of groups within society.
To conclude, liberals are now staunch advocates of democracy as it provides personal development,
consent and all individuals are equal. Modern liberals embrace democracy, but only in the specific
liberal form. They reject other forms of democracy, which may be less pluralist or more participatory,
as downright

Smoking Cigarettes Should Be Legal
Most doctors smoke back then, right? So, you should smoke cigarettes too. If doctors do it, so could

doctors claimed that if you smoke a cigarette, it can starve off hunger and depression, cured rheumatic

Roe Vs Wade Abortion Research Paper
In Roe vs. Wade abortion was deemed not only legal but morally acceptable. One might be surprised
to know that not only this decision but our entire outlook on life is influenced and shaped by a cultural
ideology. These ideologies serve as a lense through which our entire life is tinted. While not all
ideologies are destructive, the real harm is done when on can not identify it and evaluate its morals
and principles individually. This paper will seek to explore how how secular humanism extends to
abortion, why this is detrimental, and how Christianity provides a better ideology.

And in Exodus 21 God commands the penalty for someone who causes the death of a baby in the

Analysis of the Homeless Family in America
High Risk Families: Statistical and Theoretical Analysis of the Homeless Family in America
Introduction While homelessness may be an issue that is so far from the minds of the average
American family, the truth remains that the current homelessness statistics in America suggest that the
issue of homelessness is far more average than one could ever imagine. As of January 2012, The
National Alliance to End Homelessness published a series of reports that listed the number of
homeless Americans at 636,017 with a rate of homelessness at 21 homeless people per 10,000
individuals in the general population (NAEH, 2012, pp.1). While 636,017 may seem small in
comparison to the country s 311,291,917 citizens, homelessness remains an issue that stems through
the ages, through families, through neighborhoods, through ethnicity and the like. Homelessness
detrimentally effects families in their health, mortality rate, and ability to seek out employment and
basic education. In further viewing the statistics at hand regarding the homeless, their health and
behavior, as well as understanding how these people and this issue can be remedied within our
country, an overarching assessment of family life and the causes and relief measures of homelessness
must be taken into account. Health Profile and Behavioral Patterns Homelessness has long been
associated with health risks and poor behavioral patterns based solely on the inability to purchase
sufficient care. Research notes that

insurance company provides a cash payment, known as a death benefit, to beneficiaries upon the

protection and investment options with Variable Universal Life Insurance. Whole Life Insurance is a
permanent policy which gives you guaranteed protection for your loves ones that last a lifetime. You

Final Reaction
In the beginning of this film, it appears these men were struggling to be truthful and honest. They
were making sure it was a safe place to do so. They all came to discuss their experiences and learn
from other men s experiences. As the film went on I was impressed by their ability to continue to talk
about the hard topics related to racism in our country. They all took many risks to explain their
experience and question when other members thoughts were inaccurate within the group setting. After
watching the rest of the color of fear I have seen a big change in everyone in the group, especially
David Christensen.
I believe that this film as a whole is so powerful and looks at many different perspectives of how
racism and oppression can affect everyone around us. As I mentioned before we all experience
privileges and oppression, but everyone experiences these in different ways as we learned when
reading about the addressing model. By the end of this documentary, we saw so many different types
of oppressions related to within group and between group differences. They were powerful messages
because they explained how both concepts influenced and allowed the cycle of oppression to continue
in our society.
The take home message I received is that racism and prejudice will not stop from having a few
discussions, but this can help to us as a society and as counselors to become more aware of these
concepts.

Why Marijuana Should be Legalized Essay
According to archeologists, the cannabis plant was among the first crops purposely cultivated by
human beings at least 6,000 years ago and perhaps even more than 12,000 years ago. It is considered
by many to be one of the most resourceful crops on earth. It can be used for industrial, medical, and
recreational purposes. Rather than waging war on marijuana users, this resourceful crop should be
legalized and utilized.
The cannabis sativa plant produces more protein, oil, and fiber than any other plant on earth. In fact, it
can be used to produce more than 5,000 textile products ranging from rope to paper. Aside from being
resourceful, it is also very nutritious. According to Dr. Udo Erasmus, hempseed oil is ... Show more

Since 1937, the US government has been waging war against marijuana users. So much time has been

According to the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 70 plus

The Discovery Of The Apollo 11 Moon Landing

Earth Landing
20% of the world are convinced that the Apollo 11 moon landing in July 20, 1969 was faked. For the
past several decades, a small group of NASA watching sleuths has repeatedly tried to pawn off the
incredulous idea that the Apollo Moon program really was an elaborate, $30 billion hoax filmed in a
movie studio. This group believes the United States needed to cement its world leadership during the
Cold War by pretending to pull off what really was a technologically impossible stunt (Villard, 2004).
If actor Orson Welles was able to convince over one million Americans that martians were invading
Earth, there s no doubt the more powerful government could persuade U.S. citizens and keep the
entire moon landing hoax a secret.
Conspiracy theorists pointed out when the first moon landing was shown on live television, viewers
could clearly see the American flag waving and fluttering as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin planted
it. Photos of the landing also seem to show rippling in a breeze, such as the image above which clearly
shows a fold in the flag. The obvious problem here is that there s no air in the moon s atmosphere, and
therefore no wind to cause the flag to blow (Fox, 2012).
The claim goes as follows: had NASA really landed us on the moon, there would be a blast crater
underneath the lunar module to mark its landing. On any video footage or photograph of the landings,
no crater is visible, almost as

An In-Depth Analysis of the European Debt Crisis
Abstract In this paper, we present an in depth analysis of the nature, causes, economic consequences,
prevention as well as control of the European Debt crisis. A definition of the debt crisis is also
provided. Recommendations on the way forward are also provided. Introduction Debt crisis is noted
by Pescatori and Sy (306) to be a term that had before 1990s been used to typically refer to defaults in
debt serving. This definition however became very problematic with the emergence of the sovereign
bond markets. Debt crisis therefore generally deals with nations as well as their ability to repay loans
that they had earlier borrowed. The concept therefore deals with international loans, national
economies as well as national budgeting. An accurate and definition of debt crisis does not exist since
no standard definition has been advanced. The definitions of the term have generally been noted to
have varied over time with various institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as well as
Standard and poor (S P) providing their own views. The most basic definition and one which is
generally accepted indicates that debt crisis is when a national government is not able to repay the
debt that it owes as therefore resorts to seeking of some forms of assistance. The European Debt Crisis

it had borrowed in the recent decades. Five main countries in the region

How Academic Pressures Can Be Detrimental For...
As Pre service teachers, we agreed that our inquiry should emphasise both formal and informal
learning, and how academic pressures can be detrimental for socioemotional wellbeing. Our current
philosophical question was not our original question (APPENDIX A), as we realised that our original
question was excessively complex and broad. By utilising and reworking various elements of our
original question, we formed our current philosophical question: Does our current educational system
value academic skills and dispositions at the expense of socioemotional wellbeing? We discussed what
we as individuals believe the Purpose of Education encompasses. There was a general consensus that
education needs to include elements of academia, however, some members saw the value of an
informal education with a basis of social interaction. In depth dialogue and Socratic questioning, lead
us to the notions of informal and formal education, where everyone drew upon their prior experiences.
Later, we built upon our understanding, concluding that an efficacious education needs to be both
formally and informally situated. We decided to focus on the Humanist and Constructivist Theorists:
Confucius, John Dewey, Paulo Freire, Henry Giroux and Maria Montessori (Lewis, 2012). Our
question is philosophical, because it can be supported by empirical evidence, it is broad, it is subject to
differing opinions, and it promotes Socratic questioning and further discussion. This philosophical
question is

These ideas leading from Sir Francis Bacon and Thomas Hobbes. The ideas of John Locke also
coincide with the empiricist view that there are simple ideas that are from sensory qualities and
complex ideas coming from several simple ideas. This could mean to say that they were atomists
because atomism is reducing complexity to its simplest basic elements. Which is the assumption of
many ideas for psychology for example John Watson s behaviorism. Locke also had a view of
empiricist philosophy because he had the idea that those who have different experiences view the
world differently. So not everyone has the same idea of how things work and someone that is defective
could potentially have a distorted view of the world. These views all happening in the 17th century

The Jewish Roots of Christian Liturgy
I Introduction First Christian communities appeared in Jewish Palestine and Diaspora after the death
of Jesus of Nazareth, called the Christ, around 30 CE. Not only Jesus himself was a Jew, but also his
followers and very first members of the new growing community were mainly Jews. They all shared
the Jewish belief, the Sacred Scripture that Christians later started to call the Old Testament (OT), and
were not aware of founding a new religion. A closer examination of Jewish worship will let us
understand how it influenced the new Christian worship. We will have a closer look at places of
worship, liturgical sources and customs which were common at that time. A last task will be to ask
whether there are any significant Jewish elements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are some references to this pattern in the gospels (e.g. Lk 2,38; Mt 11,25 30; Jn 11,41 42).
Further we will see how some of these prayers in connection with the domestic Jewish worship were
essential for the Christian liturgy of the Eucharist.
D. The third main place of Jewish worship was home, especially during the time of meal. In the OT
the communion of meal and feast was understood as a sign of covenant (eg. Gen 26,30). The Sabbath
as a day was a special sign of covenant with God (Ex 31, 13 15) and so was the meal. The main meal
of the year was the Passover meal, as a memorial day for the Lord s passover in Egypt and deliverance
from slavery (Ex 12). The weekly Sabbath meal on Friday evenings and the yearly Passover meal thus
became quite elaborate. Bradshaw reminds that there is unfortunately no detailed evidence about meal
prayers in the first century, but according to the later evidence many assume that every meal started
with berakot (plural of berakah) and ended with them. The opening berakot were pronounced over
wine and bread, while the berakot at the end of the meal, called Birkat ha mazon, consisted of a
berakah for food, a hodayah for revelation and a tefillah for redemption (Bradshaw: 44f; Kavanagh:
621). For Christians the Last Supper with Jesus, which was a Passover meal, assumed a new meaning
(Eucharist) as a thanksgiving and

capacity within five percent error. The ideal hand warmer for cost, toxicity, and heat given off would
include 5.0 g Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO4) and 10 mL of deionized water. Procedures: We set up an
appropriate apparatus including a Styrofoam calorimeter cup containing room temperature deionized
water, two thermometers, and a clean beaker also containing deionized water directly on a heat source.
After heating up the water until its boiling point, we recorded the mass of each metal and carefully

was 0.45 J/g℃. Our inaccuracy could be a result of not reading the thermometer as accurately as we
could have. To improve yield in the future, we could make sure we record more accurate temperatures.
I also accept my hypothesis on the most effective hand warmer. In terms of heat given off, toxicity,

  • 2. A Personal Review Of Kayla Moore s Autobiography Coming back to you as a LET 2, I am Kayla Moore, bringing you an interesting autobiography with a grabbing introduction! This time around, I am sending it your way as a sophomore at Campbell County High School. My life is actually immensely boring, so I ll try to make this brief, but not too brief. On August 19, 2000, I was born into a family of two, my mother, Tammy Johnson, and my father, Terry Moore, in a hospital located in Oak ridge, Tennessee. When I reached the proper age I went to Valley View Elementary School, next Lafollette Middle School, and presently, Campbell County High School. Although I was born in a completely different place, I have lived Lafollette all my life. Eight years after that exciting day, my brother, Daniel Moore, was born in the exact same ... Like I mentioned earlier, my life is awfully boring and I have to kill time somehow. Usually I spend most of my time on my laptop, and it s not just a couple of hours a day, it is all day, every day. • 3. India Is Not an Easy Market to Understand and Operate in. 1. India is not an easy market to understand and operate in. Why is the Indian market untenable for Multinational Companies, yet at the same time attractive to global businesses? Discuss. It is true that India is not an easy market to understand and operate in. MNCs have realized this the hard way as their expectations have remained unfulfilled, and many have either suffered reverses or have had to wrap up their operations. Unable to figure out the reason for their failure, they have chosen to blame the market as erratic and fickle in its behavior. But this is not true as there is more to India than meets the eye. This country came under the global spotlight only in 1991 when it embraced economic reforms and allowed FDI. Before that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, Coca Cola and Pepsi ran up loses and were unable to understand why the Indians have not taken to cola like fish to water as seems to be the case with Americans. They are, however, unable to understand that cola will never replace water which has a pride of place over all other beverages and is viewed as an elixir of life in India, not to mention the fact that the Indians are aware that cola is just carbonated water which rots ones teeth and that there is a move to ban it in the US schools information that the Indians have acquired from the satellite TV boom. Similarly, when Nestle introduced iced tea in India, they were confident of their strategy which rested on the research data which pointed out that this was a country of the highest number of tea drinkers in the world and would embrace iced tea in the natural course of things. What their strategy missed out on and what their research did not inform them was the fact that Indians like their tea hot even on a hot summer day! They would reach out for a cold drink if they wanted something cold but it was simply alien to their conditioning and upbringing to be able to relate with the concept of having tea any other way than hot. Hence, the global strategies don t suit India as the nature of emerging market economies is fundamentally different from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay On Normative Work Focus Area 1: Normative Work The UN has served as the key forum where Member States and experts have developed universal norms and standards in conventions, declarations, regulatory frameworks, agreements, guidelines, codes of practice and other standard setting instruments, at national and regional levels. The UN s normative work in Afghanistan operates at three categories: a) support in the development of norms and standards; b) support in integrating norms and standards into legislation, policies and development plans; and c) support in implementing legislation, policies and development plans based on the international norms, standards and conventions. On the one hand, the UN s normative work acts as a foundation for the work of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather, it builds on decades of lessons learned and experience and will also facilitate the insertion of any country in international exchanges and trade or movement of persons and goods or simply provide common references when two countries discuss border management, educational standards or combatting illegal trade. The UN also assists with regional coordination to assist countries to establish norms and to implement transnational actions in complex areas, such as regional activities under the 1988 Convention to prevent chemical precursors being smuggled into Afghanistan for use in the illicit manufacture of drugs, and support to regional peace negotiation efforts. The UN has developed unique expertise in training people on how to adopt and work with the international norms, adjust legislation in all relevant sectors once such norms are introduced and prepare and support Page | 3 governments and other stakeholders (civil society or private sector) toward the new operating conditions they often create. In Afghanistan, as elsewhere, the normative work is part of the ongoing relationship with government counterparts and as such does not take place only through established bilateral or multi agency mechanisms of dialogue with counterparts. For example, the entire protection architecture, with its multiple subsidiary bodies (clusters and working groups), relies on a large and expanding set of norms from ... • 5. Dynamic Characterism In The Keeper Of The Virgins In The Keeper of the Virgins, Hanan Al Shaykh creates a dynamic character of the dwarf. While in the beginning of the story, the dwarf was an outcast from society and his family when he enters the convent he gains acceptance. His family was embarrassed by him, however, after he enters the convent, they begin to worry about him and his well being. Inside the convent walls, he finds a divine and an overwhelming acceptance, missing in the outside world and his family. In the convent he receives unconditional love from the nuns, unlike the hate and darkness outside. In The House Behind, Lydia Davis establishes a divide between social classes through the creation of the front house and the back house. Their separation is meaningful in that it represents the divide in society between the rich and the poor. It represents the difference in power. The setting does not change in the story, however the people s attitudes do. There s an increase in uneasiness from the house in front after the murder. Those in the house behind became ashamed by the actions of their neighbor. Through the association between front and superior there is an indirect connection established. The courtyard connects the two houses as a common ground for interaction, however, it seems to instead serve as a separator between the two. In Wilderness Tips, Margaret Atwood writes with a third person omniscient point of view. This allows the reader to understand all character s actions and emotions without a bias towards any one main character. Throughout the short story the point of view remains constant. By choosing this point of view, Atwood establishes each character (George, Portia, Prue, Pamela, and Roland), allowing the reader to understand the story through an unbiased perspective. The reader is able to establish their own opinion due to the lack of influence from the narrator on character bias. By focusing the narration on Portia s weakness towards George s consistent infidelity, she s able to establish the characterization until her breaking point, suicide. Similarly, in the narration about George the reader gains a deeper understanding into his persona. In The First Day, Edward P. Jones follows a largely chronological method of ... • 6. Overpopulation Is The Problem Kuo, G. (2012). MegaCrisis? Overpopulation is the problem. World Future Review, 4(3), 23 32. Gioietta Kuo discusses overpopulation as the main problem causing all of life s problems on earth today. Moreover, if the problem is not rectified, the world faces extinction from a shortage of resources such as food, water, and land. Furthermore, the implied message is that overpopulation needs to be addressed, because without reducing the inhabitants in the world, humanity will run out of the means to sustain even the current population. This article relates to Connecting the Dots between Species Extinction, Overpopulation, and the Use of Resources by Marshall Marcus, because Marcus also believes that the extinction of any species can be traced back to the increase of the world s population. Additionally, both authors feel that overpopulation is the cause for many of earth s problems such as environmental destruction, climate change, and food shortage to name a few. With all the data, facts and references, I feel this article credible. Using this information in my paper will help argue my opinion on overpopulation. Mankiw, N. Gregory. (1998). Be fruitful and multiply. (analysis of arguments for single child families) (Brief Article)(Column). Fortune, 138(5), 48 52. • 7. Essay on Discrimination in The Merchant of Venice Discrimination is a resounding theme in The Merchant of Venice (Meyers). All of the characters are affected by inequality. This inequity is evidenced clearly in Shylock, the Jewish usurer. He is treated with scorn and derision by all the characters. Shylock s misfortunes stem not from poor attributes or even a poor background; it stems from the fact he is Jewish, and what is more, he is impenitent of that distinction. If he had been more daunted by Christian influence, he might have been forgiven, as Jessica is subjectively exonerated. He is not contrite and it is believed that his appalling birth cannot be absolved (Bonnell). All of the characters are defined through Shylock. As it is, all she can do to maintain her father s estate is to follow the decrees of the lottery to the letter. If she refuses to follow all of the instructions of the lottery, she loses her inheritance. Portia is no fool; she comprehends the importance of financial security, a quality that is woefully wanting in her male counterparts. The cycle of hatred and animosity are evident in The Merchant of Venice most clearly through Jessica s deplorable treachery of Shylock (Blanchard). The theft of his money and jewels was considered by the Christians a credit to her integrity rather than the consummate maliciousness it truly is. She is absolved from any culpability for her betrayal of Shylock; she is praised for her ability to deceive and defraud her father in a culture that sanctioned paternal piety (Picker). She marries the Christian Lorenzo in hopes of improved egalitarianism; she soon discovers that this will not be the case. Her profound guilt and strict upbringing as a Jewish female are revealed in the conversation between herself and Lorenzo: Jessica: I am never merry when I hear sweet music. Lorenzo: The man that hath no music in himself, Nor is moved with concord to sweet sounds, Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils The motions of his spirit are as dull as night, And his affections are as dark as Erebus. For many people, this was their first introduction to autism. The public awareness this movie gave to autism did much to dispel many incorrect ideas about those who are affected by autism. • 10. The Role That Electronic Tagging This essay seeks to evaluate the role that electronic tagging can play in crime prevention, both in terms of it s potential to reduce crime, and it s implications for rights and liberties. Firstly this essay will give a brief history of how electronic tagging was implemented, it s application and for what purposes it is used. It will discuss whether it has been a useful contribution as a method of situational crime prevention; by means of a deterrence, lower re offending rates, increased public safety, cost affective, the use of multi disciplinary agencies, and how well this method has been implemented, managed and controlled. Or, whether it has had an adverse effect on society, by failing to reduce crime, and wasting public funds. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In England and Wales, during the 1980 s tracking and electronic monitoring became the forefront of policy maker s agenda to tackle young, low risk offenders released from prison, or as an alternative community order for those who potentially may have been subject to a custodial sentence. Electronic monitoring can be defined as a system of home confinement aimed at monitoring and controlling and modifying the behaviour of defendants or offenders (Prisoners Reform Trust, 1997, as cited in Ardley, 2005), and was introduced by the Criminal Justice Act, 1991 (HMI Probation, 2012). Electronic monitoring was founded upon the notion of tracking offenders movements, then expanded to include curfew tagging, which involves confining offenders to their homes, (Nellis, 2004) and came into practice in the U.K in 1995 (Ardley, 2005). Foremost, electronic monitoring was developed with the goal that it would provide a more cost effective solution to custodial sentences, thus reducing the prison population, with no added risk to the public. To diminish the risk of learnt criminal behaviour through communication through offenders mixing with other offenders in custody, as identified by Sutherland s Differential Association Theory (Newburn, 2009), and attempting to reduce stigma and disruption to family life (Ardley, 2005). He went downstairs and drank a glass of water, not hungry enough for food. Arthur went outside into the chilly morning and started walking down the road. The road was lined with hundreds of huge alpine trees. A large flock of birds flew over Arthur s head in the sky. Arthur! Hey Arthur! Arthur turned his head to see his two friends James and Derek . • 12. What s Eating Gilbert Grape What s Eating Gilbert Grape is a 1993 American drama film written by Peter Hedges and directed by Lasse Hallstrom. The film s main characters are Johnny Depp as Gilbert Grape and Leonardo DiCaprio as Arnie Grape. The film depicts the burden of family caretaking and the affect it has on a family both mentally, physically, and financially. Gilbert is the primary caregiver for his mentally and developmentally disabled seventeen year old brother Arnie (who has the mental capacity of a young child), his morbidly obese mother Bonnie, known as Mama, and his two sisters Amy and Ellen. Amy, the oldest daughter, shares most of the household chores with Gilbert and helps with Arnie s care. She plays the mother figure role for Arnie even though Arnie s mother is alive. Ellen, the youngest daughter, is very negative in her feelings toward her family. She doesn t help much with the family because she is busy being a teenage girl. The movie takes place in the fictional small Midwestern town of Endora, Iowa. Gilbert says in the film s opening voiceover, Describing Endora is like dancing to no music...nothing much happens here, and never will, In one of the scenes, we understand that the father could not handle the pressures of life so he committed suicide 15 years earlier by hanging himself in the basement. • 13. Why Should We Make Decisions On Experiences That They... able to make decisions on experiences that they themselves could not understand. This really raised a lot of questions to me about who is in power and how big of a problem it is the those in power are not more diverse. We have struggled in society and have imprisoned so many behind stone walls of racism, sexism, and homophobia (Rudacille 140). It also raised awareness that the very same acts done by heterosexual couples were acceptable, and not punishable in the confines of the home, but that gays were not even safe in private. After the decision in Lawrence v Texas made by the U.S. Supreme Court, it was understood that the gay community had a chance to move forward into the light even more, and that their fight for freedom would not disappear. By declaring that it is unconstitutional to make arrests against gays in the home, it also declared that homosexuals should have the same rights as everyone else. It made it more acceptable and brought homosexuality into the light to where it was okay to talk about and dispute. Not only was it just an invasion of liberty, as the Court thought , but also the case enforced a bad law, a Homosexual Status Law, which made being gay a crime. In writing this paper, I went back to the very beginning of our discussions, and looked at my very first discussion post on the Stonewall Uprising. It placed everywhere for everyone to see, to make people want to buy this water more and more. But we have seen through Lenzer s article and perspective that there are certain aspects of the company, their practices, and involvement in the Fiji Islands that are were never made known to public or just false claims and statements. Fiji Water implies with their statements that they re the ambassadors of Fiji and they help improve Fiji for the better but there are discrepancies with that. It is the responsibility of Fiji Water to be open and honest with their consumers, stockholders, and to the public, not take advantage of poor and corrupt government but instead improve and bring attention to it and the lives of the Fijians, and lastly, to give back to the land they profit so much from. Fiji Water has no doubt, got great marketing and business minds such as their owners Lynda and Stewart Resnick and the founder, David Gilmour. The elements of the network are greatly interdependent and, as demonstrated by history, a system failure of a line of outage can result in fall in other areas. Markey Waxman (2013) provides an example of a power failure that occurred on August 14, 2003 when four hanging high altitude lines of power in northern Ohio clashed into trees and shut off. When one grid s part fails, it can lead to cascading failure phenomenon whereby the entire network progressively collapses. Kiger (2016) noted that; for a system that relies upon several critical nodes, like the United States electric grid, such cascading failures are pretty much unavoidable. Ramifications of an Electric Grid Shutdown The vulnerability caused by the electric grid shutdown creates considerable risks to the economy and national security of the United States and also on the private businesses conducted in the nation. Consequences on National Security The United States electrical grid is essentially divided into three electric networks covering Texas, the West and the East. All these networks comprise many thousands of miles of lines of transmission, substations and power plants, a hundred year old combination of domestic utilities (Broick, 2013). Recently the system has been modernized and thus has been experiencing cyber attack threat. The increasing dependence on the communications based on the internet has raised the vulnerability of the operation and control systems to hackers and spies. National security of the U.S. reported that the Cyber spies have made a way into the electrical grid of the nation and left behind software programs that would be applied to disrupt the system and maybe shut down areas of the network for a considerably long period of time (Broick, 2013). • 16. The Church s Role In Ancient Russian Society And Politics The church s role in ancient Russian society and politics was also significant since it encountered a semi pagan society with many barbarian practices and crude customs in the late tenth and early eleventh centuries. These included a primitive form of marriage in which the wife was abducted or purchased, polygamy, slavery, blood feuds and many other rituals society would deem cruel and barbaric today. (131, Engelstein) While the church did not immediately eliminate ingrained habits and prejudices, it gradually imparted new ideas and attitudes by educating people, changing morals, and preparing the people to accept new standards. The church opposed barbaric customs such as blood feuds and, together with secular leaders, attempted to formulate judicial norms and establish appropriate punishments that fit the nature of and reasons for crimes. In these actions, the church deeply penetrated the legal and moral foundations of society. • 21. Function Of Soliloquies In Hamlet The Functions of Soliloquies in Hamlet. Soliloquies are a powerful writing device that can help a writer with a large array of different things. Shakespeare uses these speeches in Hamlet quite often and they became an important functioning feature in the story. Soliloquies helped Shakespeare to give the readers insight into the emotion of Hamlet and Claudius through their narration directly to the audience. These addresses to the audience fit the role of developing the plot through exposition of plans via character narrations. The many monologues in Hamlet serve these functions to allow the story to progress steadily and smoothly. Hamlet s first soliloquy exists in order to give both an insight into Hamlet s emotional state and a small background on what has happened in the recent months to put him in that state. Hamlet tells the audience that he feels disgusted with his mother for marrying Claudius within two months of Hamlet Sr. dying. This monologue also easily explains to the audience that Hamlet feels distraught over the loss of his father. Hamlet is just like us... his mysterious inner life, his roller coaster of emotions...his conflicted feelings about his parents... (Hamlet). For physician assisted suicide to even be considered, the patient must be of sound mind when they are requesting death with dignity. Physician assisted suicide should be a legal option for people who are unable to end their own lives. However, there should be safeguards to prevent any sort of abuse. There should be the legalization of physician assisted suicide, but not for active euthanasia. It refers to the ideal form of state, and is common to both classical and modern liberals. In the 19th century, liberals often saw democracy as threatening or dangerous. The principle that the will of the majority should prevail over the minority may have negative effects. For the past several decades, a small group of NASA watching sleuths has repeatedly tried to pawn off the incredulous idea that the Apollo Moon program really was an elaborate, $30 billion hoax filmed in a movie studio. This group believes the United States needed to cement its world leadership during the Cold War by pretending to pull off what really was a technologically impossible stunt (Villard, 2004). An In-Depth Analysis of the European Debt Crisis Abstract In this paper, we present an in depth analysis of the nature, causes, economic consequences, prevention as well as control of the European Debt crisis. A definition of the debt crisis is also provided. Recommendations on the way forward are also provided. Introduction Debt crisis is noted by Pescatori and Sy (306) to be a term that had before 1990s been used to typically refer to defaults in debt serving. This definition however became very problematic with the emergence of the sovereign bond markets. Debt crisis therefore generally deals with nations as well as their ability to repay loans that they had earlier borrowed. The concept therefore deals with international loans, national economies as well as national budgeting. An accurate and definition of debt crisis does not exist since no standard definition has been advanced. The definitions of the term have generally been noted to have varied over time with various institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as well as Standard and poor (S P) providing their own views. The most basic definition and one which is generally accepted indicates that debt crisis is when a national government is not able to repay the debt that it owes as therefore resorts to seeking of some forms of assistance. As Pre service teachers, we agreed that our inquiry should emphasise both formal and informal learning, and how academic pressures can be detrimental for socioemotional wellbeing. Our current philosophical question was not our original question (APPENDIX A), as we realised that our original question was excessively complex and broad. By utilising and reworking various elements of our original question, we formed our current philosophical question: Does our current educational system value academic skills and dispositions at the expense of socioemotional wellbeing? We discussed what we as individuals believe the Purpose of Education encompasses. There was a general consensus that education needs to include elements of academia, however, some members saw the value of an informal education with a basis of social interaction. In depth dialogue and Socratic questioning, lead us to the notions of informal and formal education, where everyone drew upon their prior experiences. Later, we built upon our understanding, concluding that an efficacious education needs to be both formally and informally situated. We decided to focus on the Humanist and Constructivist Theorists: Confucius, John Dewey, Paulo Freire, Henry Giroux and Maria Montessori (Lewis, 2012). Our question is philosophical, because it can be supported by empirical evidence, it is broad, it is subject to differing opinions, and it promotes Socratic questioning and further discussion. This philosophical question is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Descartes And Interactionist And How Did Humans Differ... 1.) What does it mean to say that Descartes was a dualist and an interactionist? According to Descartes, How did humans differ from animals? To say that Descartes was a dualist is to say that he believed the mind and body are two separate and distinguishable essences. The immaterial mind and the material body although separate, causally interact. According to Descartes there was a clear separation between humans and animals in regards to mind body dualism. He believed that animals were nothing more than simple machines incapable of reason and language. That they lacked a mind unlike humans, who have a sound reasoning mind and mechanical body. These ideas leading from Sir Francis Bacon and Thomas Hobbes. The ideas of John Locke also coincide with the empiricist view that there are simple ideas that are from sensory qualities and complex ideas coming from several simple ideas. This could mean to say that they were atomists because atomism is reducing complexity to its simplest basic elements. Which is the assumption of many ideas for psychology for example John Watson s behaviorism. Locke also had a view of empiricist philosophy because he had the idea that those who have different experiences view the world differently. So not everyone has the same idea of how things work and someone that is defective could potentially have a distorted view of the world. These views all happening in the 17th century along with George Berkeley and his empercism view on vision. Which can be applied to the study of our perceptions and having to do with our experiences determining the distance, size and location. Kelly Haverfield 3.) • 36. Personal Narrative Caffeine I found the documentary very informative of how addictive caffeine can be. But at the same time it demonstrated tea which I had no idea there was tea which had caffeine in it. But I wish they would have shown people who drink tea regularly with caffeine properties stopping the routine of drinking tea. I wasn t really surprised with how these students were addicted to caffeine the way they are. Nowadays not all of the times do individuals drink coffee to wake up but just because of all the new flavoring with iced coffee, This has cause individuals to become addicted to coffee without knowing but the taste it what is bringing them back. I have been addicted to coffee before, and have drunk coffee to the point where I needed coffee even drank ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Jewish Roots of Christian Liturgy I Introduction First Christian communities appeared in Jewish Palestine and Diaspora after the death of Jesus of Nazareth, called the Christ, around 30 CE. Not only Jesus himself was a Jew, but also his followers and very first members of the new growing community were mainly Jews. They all shared the Jewish belief, the Sacred Scripture that Christians later started to call the Old Testament (OT), and were not aware of founding a new religion. A closer examination of Jewish worship will let us understand how it influenced the new Christian worship. We will have a closer look at places of worship, liturgical sources and customs which were common at that time. A last task will be to ask whether there are any significant Jewish elements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are some references to this pattern in the gospels (e.g. Lk 2,38; Mt 11,25 30; Jn 11,41 42). Further we will see how some of these prayers in connection with the domestic Jewish worship were essential for the Christian liturgy of the Eucharist. D. The third main place of Jewish worship was home, especially during the time of meal. In the OT the communion of meal and feast was understood as a sign of covenant (eg. Gen 26,30). The Sabbath as a day was a special sign of covenant with God (Ex 31, 13 15) and so was the meal. The main meal of the year was the Passover meal, as a memorial day for the Lord s passover in Egypt and deliverance from slavery (Ex 12). The weekly Sabbath meal on Friday evenings and the yearly Passover meal thus became quite elaborate. Bradshaw reminds that there is unfortunately no detailed evidence about meal prayers in the first century, but according to the later evidence many assume that every meal started with berakot (plural of berakah) and ended with them. The opening berakot were pronounced over wine and bread, while the berakot at the end of the meal, called Birkat ha mazon, consisted of a berakah for food, a hodayah for revelation and a tefillah for redemption (Bradshaw: 44f; Kavanagh: 621). For Christians the Last Supper with Jesus, which was a Passover meal, assumed a new meaning (Eucharist) as a thanksgiving and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Specific Heat Capacity Lab Purpose/ Research Question: Determine the specific heat capacity of two unknown metals. Find two Ionic compounds out of the several given chemicals that would synthesize in the product of the most effective hand warmer. Hypothesis: For both metals one and two, we can calculate the specific heat capacity within five percent error. The ideal hand warmer for cost, toxicity, and heat given off would include 5.0 g Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO4) and 10 mL of deionized water. Procedures: We set up an appropriate apparatus including a Styrofoam calorimeter cup containing room temperature deionized water, two thermometers, and a clean beaker also containing deionized water directly on a heat source. After heating up the water until its boiling point, we recorded the mass of each metal and carefully placed the selected metal inside the boiling water until the temperature of the water containing the metal was constant. Quickly, we placed the hot metal from the boiling water in the calorimeter cup containing room temperature water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We calculated the specific heat of metal one to be 0.39 J/g℃ which correlates to the exact specific heat capacity of element 30 Zinc. For metal two, we calculated the specific heat capacity to be 0.38 J/g℃ which was close to the actual specific heat of element 23 Iron. The specific heat capacity of Iron was 0.45 J/g℃. Our inaccuracy could be a result of not reading the thermometer as accurately as we could have. To improve yield in the future, we could make sure we record more accurate temperatures. I also accept my hypothesis on the most effective hand warmer. In terms of heat given off, toxicity, and price, Magnesium Sulfate was indeed the best choice for a hand warmer because when compared to the other given chemicals, it was the most exothermic in water, it is relatively nontoxic, and is very ...
