Future Of Public Broadcasting In Australia
The future of public broadcasting in Australia has continued to be very unknown. Since the 1990 s
Australia s public service broadcasters security has been under constant challenge and change (E.

Research Paper On Dodo Bird
The Mysterious Dodo
Picture yourself running through the woods as quickly as your legs can move you, with a heap of
emotions running through your brain. You feel betrayed, offended, helpless, terrified. You had never
been an aggressive animal. You were friendly, you didn t eat animals, and it s not like you had the
abilities to overpower anything if you did eat them. This may aid your imagination of what the dodo
bird went through while being hunted down by the Portuguese. The dodo bird may seem like a tedious
animal; However, the bird, it s misconception, and how it became extinct are intriguing in a way that
you may find odd.
The dodo bird is not an extremely famous bird, like the beautiful parrot, or the perfectly pink
flamingo. Many people aren t educated on what the bird was genuinely like, or even what the bird is.
The dodo is a flightless bird from an island in the Indian Ocean called Mauritius. It is part of the
Raphidae family(Dodo 1), which consists of pigeons and doves. The dodo clings to the forest in
Mauritius and has been extinct since the 17th century(Extinct Bird 1), eating only nuts, fruits, or seeds
it found on the ground(Viral Stats). The dodo bird has a comical appearance, that one could only
imagine. It s unique visuals were small useless wings, thick yellow legs, and a tuft of feathers high on
its rear end (Dodo 2). These odd characteristics made it easy for people to deride the dodo bird. In
terms of size, the dodo was larger than a turkey, it

The Economic Benefits Of Economic Welfare Essay
Economic welfare is defined as the well being or standard of living of an individual or individuals
taking part in an economy (Business Dictionary, 2015). This can be measured through statistics such
as individual income, health care expense, educational achievement and opportunity for economic
growth. The better one fares among these categories, the more likely one is to have a higher standard
of living and possess an inherent socio economic advantage. Currently, the aboriginal population
scores poorly across all of these standards. Despite government incentives, the average indigenous
person is born into an economic disadvantage with little room for vertical movement, indicating a
need for major social and legislative change.
Among the aboriginal population in 2005, 18.7% of individuals living with family were below the
poverty line. Unattached, or single, individuals were even more likely to fall into this low income
bracket at 42.8%. Conversely, these rates among the non aboriginal population were 8.4% and 28.0%
respectively (Collin Jensen, 2009). These numbers highlight the economic disparity Aboriginals face,
the cause of which lies rooted in their historical mistreatment. To better understand the situation today
and how it came to be, one must begin by looking at early Canadian policy involving Aboriginals.
The first important document concerned with indigenous rights was the Royal Proclamation. Signed in
1763, it recognized the sovereignty of the aboriginal

The Importance Of Communication In My Culture
In society today, people have friends that belong to numerous diverse cultural groups. When it comes
to meeting new people from unique cultural groups, the form of communication are all different.
Those that do not use the correct form of communication when encountering new people from
different ethnicity, it can lead to misunderstanding and tremendous conflicts. For instance, I am
Vietnamese and in our culture, the way people communicate determines their characteristics,
personalities, and how educated they are. This is extremely important in my culture since it reveals
how we treat adults and if we admire them or not. On the other hand, my friend Yary, who is
Cambodian, her way of communicating defines how respectful one is, based on their tone. The
Cambodian and the Vietnamese s lifestyle tends to have multiple similarities, but also have a few
differences about certain topics. When it comes to communicating, the situational context, physical
appearance, and self presentation all plays a different role in every heritage. To learn extend my
knowledge about different cultures and their way of communicating, I interviewed my friend Yary, to
compare and contrast our way of communicating through our culture.
To begin with, everyone has a different speech repertories when it comes to different situations.

Cobb Museum Paper
The Cobb Institute Museum at Mississippi State University displays items from the Old World and the
New World. When I visited the museum I noticed a wide variety of artifacts. The Old world side
contained pieces from many Old World countries, while the New World side featured a lot of pieces
that are from local areas. Since there was such a vast number of artifacts at the Cobb Museum, I have
decided to focus on the clay vessels and etchings in the Old and New World.
In the section of ceramics form Israel s Iron Age II, there were a lot of pots and vessels. A four room

I was glad to see that some of the pots were setting upside down. I liked how I was able to see what
the bottoms looked like. The Cobb Museum had a collection of Old World oil lamps. One lamp was
cream colored and teardrop shaped. The top was adorned with a thin u shaped decoration. Small
etched circles added a decorated touch. The top of the lamp had a small looped handle. At the back of
the case there was an interesting oil lamp. It was tan colored with hints of red. The handle looked like
the back fin of a whale. Next to the spout was a floral design. Two gazelles with long, thin horns
graced the sides of the lamp (http://www.cobb.msstate.edu/museum/). The lamp that stood out the
most was a black lamp with four spouts from Rome (Cobb). It was the only displayed lamp with
multiple spouts. Two of the spouts were missing, but it was obvious where the missing ones would
have been. The two remaining spouts had wide openings. The lamp had protruding triangles between
each spout to give the lamp a diamond shape. All of the oil lamps in Cobb were varied and unique.
The replica of the Rosetta Stone was obviously one of the most interesting pieces in the museum. I am
ashamed to admit that prior to taking Anthropology, I did not know what the Rosetta Stone was. This
very important artifact was made in 196 B.C. It is a shiny black stone with three different sections of
writings: ancient Greek, a Demotic script, and Egyptian hieroglyphs

Vladek s Relationship In Maus
The award winning graphic novel Maus is a first person story of Art Spiegelman s father, a Holocaust
survivor. However, through the narrative, the author conveys not only the dynamic character of his
father, Vladek, but also subtly discloses his own complexity through his commentary on his father s
experiences. In his interesting elucidation, he reveals that he may be just as fascinating of a character,
if not more so, than the dynamic persona of his father. In Maus, close reading proves that Art
characterizes himself through his portrayal of his relationship with his father, and his feelings for his
mother. One of the largest factors that defines Art s character is his complex relationship with his
father. While Maus generally details his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the author does not explicitly talk about Anja as much as Vladek, the few times that Art
reveals his thoughts are emotionally rich in context. The most notable of these powerful moments is
the author s comic, Prisoner On the Hell Planet, in which he depicts his feelings over his mother s
suicide. When he describes the last time he saw her, he adds that when she came to him, [he] turned
away, resentful of the way she tightened the umbilical cord (103). Art s abhorrence toward his mother
and the pessimistic view on her helplessness is startlingly selfish, and he continues the negative tone
in the next frame where when he is reflecting upon her actions. Art condemns his mother, saying that,
[she] murdered [him]...and [she] left [him] to take all the rap, reinforcing the accusing and selfish
attitude of the author at this point in time (103). The emotions that the author illustrates with his
diction and dark, macabre drawings demonstrate the negativity associated with the event in the author
s life. In addition, the attitude he portrays toward his mother before and after her suicide in the comic
give the impression that he was distant from his mother as well as his father. The author blames his
mother for for the psychological damage she has done to him at this point in his life, but despite his
contempt, it is evident he still loves her because he refers to Anja as mommy (103). Additionally, the
author s thoughts at the time of the comic s writing contradict with his understanding in the present,
which demonstrates a maturity in Art s view on the relationship. For example, when Vladek tells his
son that he used to have Anja s diaries of her story, Art replies in astonishment and says that [he]
need[s] those for this book (84). This yearning to know his mother s story could be motivated by Art

Tarrega The Black Death Analysis
In the text The Black Death and its Consequences for the Jewish Community in Tarrega, the authors
note that the discovery of communal burial sites in Tarrega (ca. 2007) now provides archeological
evidence for the documentary records of the mass murder of Jews in July, 1348. Long before the
discovery of the six communal grave sites, testimonies such as that of Hayyim Galipapa (1310 1380)
have provided textual records for the mass killing of Jews during the spread of the plague. The authors
argue that a consequence of the plague epidemic was the increase attacks on social minorities, Jews in
particular stood out as a powerful minority group which many of these attacks focused around. As
such, the Jewish community suffered disproportionately

Ellen Kirschman, author of I Love a FireFighter, suggests proven ways to treat cases of traumatic
stress that is experienced while on the job. Her suggestions include cognitive behavioral therapy,
exercise, medications, and eye movement and desensitization reprocessing, commonly known as
EMDR. In addition to these professional coping options, other coping mechanisms include expressing
yourself and sharing your fears and experience, creating a mission for your life to create meaning, and
distracting yourself which can provide a little temporary relief with something new and engaging to
occupy your thoughts. (p.189) I believe based on this information, it may be more helpful for a
firefighter and other emergency responders to cope via the latter mentioned mechanisms because they
focus more on the individual s fears, experiences, and emotions. Creating meaning in your life and
finding enjoyable hobbies to distract from work can help to unload much of the stress from the job.
Furthermore, researchers tend to agree that expressing your emotion is beneficial for dealing with
stress. According to the authors of the paper Trauma exposed Firefighters , Firefighters and other first
responders often engage in approach oriented coping strategies such as problem focused coping rather
than emotion focused or avoidance coping (p.357) Emotion and avoidance coping mechanisms often
involve seeking emotional support and positive reframing (p.358) By reframing ones view of the
world through positive associations, firefighters and other emergency responders are better equipped
to deal the trauma and stress from being on the job because it is a holistic effort to change their point
of view rather than just trying to deal with one specific

Sacrifice In Bruce Springsteen s Song, Nebraska
Music is something that is needed in everyday life. It fuels creativity, brings people together, and it
even helps people learn. In Bruce Springsteen s song, Nebraska , it tells the story of Charles
Starkweather, the most notorious killer in Nebraska. Charles Starkweather symbolizes fear for many
people, and will forever haunt not only Nebraska, but the whole world. Lincoln Nebraska seemed like
the perfect place to live. It was a quiet town where everybody seemed to know each other, and nobody
needed to lock their doors at night. It wasn t until December 1, under the cover of darkness, that
everything seemed to change. On that night Charles Starkweather returned to a Lincoln gas station,
robbed the attendant for $100.00, and then led him out a few miles where he proceeded to shoot him
dead. (Spencer). This robbery and murder was just the start of the gruesome spree that had yet to
occur. Almost two months after the killing, with no lead for the case, Starkweather struck again. Caril
Ann Fugate was Starkweather s 14 year old girlfriend, and her parent s didn t like that fact, so they
often got into fights with the 19 year old man. This time, however, Starkweather ended the fight

needed a new car for their escape. They reached Douglas, Wyoming and met Merle Collison, an older

another car and police officer pulled up. Starkweather then jumped in the Packard and sped off,

Summary Of KeatsOde To A Nightingale
Keats Ode to a Nightingale, can be classified as one of those most well known Odes to ever be
written. Although the poem is a tough lyrical poem to understand, it is as if the poet feels the pain and
bleakness from the day to day repetitiveness of life; therefore, seeks to disappear into the make believe
world of the Nightingale to find relief which eventually leads him to acknowledgment. While listening
to the Nightingale sing, the poet describes Greek and Roman figures to enhance the feelings he is
portraying. The poet described an inconsistent life of contradictory using the concept of life and death.
As well as, representing the struggle of reality and fantasy achieved through a transformed state of
mind. One can see the poet s feelings are described by words that show the mood of the situation
while his thoughts change throughout the poem. The day to day life of the poet is filled with pain and
disappointment. Although the poem starts out with, My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains
(Line 1), momentarily, the poet is happy because of the singing Nightingale which he describes as,
some melodious plot (Line 8); and it Singest of summer in full throated ease (Line 10). The poet uses
musical language to give the audience the portrayal of how the bird is singing. Quickly, the narrator is

The term marketing is a complex management tool and can be defined many ways.
Marketing can be defined as being all about getting the right products to the right customer at the right
time; in general the term marketing is the action or business of promoting and selling products and

Place or the location of the business is very important for success. As if a company is in a rural
country area that is hard to locate then you re not going to get as many customers as if you were to set
the business in the high street or city. The business needs to be accessible in order for customer to

The Effects Of Climate Change On The State Of Colorado
It is undeniable that climate change is drastically changing our current landscapes throughout the

progression, but many studies indicate that due to excess greenhouse gas emissions, humans are
accelerating global warming at an alarming rate. It s convenient to continuously dismiss the studies

According to Dr. Denning, as the global climate changes, average temperatures will rise sharply.
Because Colorado is so far inland, this effect will be stronger because large bodies of water help
mitigate temperature swings and Colorado is far from our oceans or Great Lakes. Imagine the climate
of Albuquerque as far north as Greeley. Additionally, we must consider the agriculture industry is
estimated to be worth around forty one billion dollars in Colorado, which means climate change will
have a drastic impact on food production. Colorado s geographic location is problematic in itself, but
the continuous temperature changes means longer growing seasons. Ultimately, the rising
temperatures make plants consume more water and it reduces the annual snowpack, which creates a
conundrum of issues. Similarly, we can assume a warmer Colorado will also mean a much drier
Colorado, which will hurt agriculture on every level.
A report submitted to the Colorado Energy Office, titled The Colorado Climate Change Vulnerability

many areas, but it offers insight into negative effects from climate variability and how to adapt to
them. Since the agricultural sector plays such a critical role in Colorado s economy, its vulnerabilities

Richard Rodriguez Hunger Of Memory Analysis
Remedial Reading Richard Rodriguez, in the passage Remedial Reading from his autobiography
Hunger of Memory (1982), promotes active reading as a developer of one s mind. He justifies his
position by describing his initial experiences with reading, specifically his attachment to the reading.
Rodriguez s anecdote functions as an encourager of stubborn minds trying to read and displaying its
potential to change their life for the better. Rodriguez uses a very descriptive style that may be too
verbose for children but compliments the verbosity with enough explanation of his purpose for his
message to be known or ascertained. The Gramercy Gym Edward Hoagland, in the passage The
Gramercy Gym (1985) from his book Heart s Desire , asserts that boxing is a sport on the decline. He
supports his assertion by describing a gym in New York throughout time. His account chronicles how
the gym is not the same energetic site it once was. Hoagland s audience includes sports enthusiasts
who particularly enjoy and want to preserve boxing, his writing would be confusing to people
unacquainted with boxing, as its jargon is riddled in the passage. The Great American Desert Edward
Abbey, in the passage The Great American Desert from his book The Journey Home (1977), asserts
that the desert is a terrible place but should still be benefited from because of its solitary nature. He
portrays the desert as a horrific place that no one would like to be in. He then describes the desert as a
quiet place to be enjoyed. His audience includes environmentalists and those who love nature. A Few
Words for Motherhood Wendell Berry, in his essay A Few Words for Motherhood (), displays the
grace and awe of animal birth. He recounts one of his cows giving birth in his barn, he expresses the
sentiments he felt: wonder and joy. He presents the cow, who amazingly knew exactly how to confront
giving birth with no prior experience. His writing is for everyone interested in animals and animal
birth. Here is New York E.B. White, in the essay Here is New York (1948) implies that there are three

Importance of the Gardens in The Sparrow Essay
The actual turning point in The Sparrow was when the Utra Light crashed. However, it was of little
interest. The importance of the novel lied within the gardens that were built. The garden the Jesuit
mission planted served as the catalyst to the future demise of the group, and especially Emilio. Emilio
not only had his body destroyed, but also his soul. The gardens caused a slaughter, an imprisonment,
an eventual destruction of the survivor s hands, another death, a rape, and a long period of despair for
the only survivor of the overall mission.
The crashing of the Utra Light by Sofia and Marc (290) was simply the turning point because it was
the beginning of the many unfortunate events that happened to the group. However, it was ... Show

They went and retrieved the seeds Marc had decided to bring along, and soon thereafter began to plant
the seeds. In the beginning the Runa were absolutely flabbergasted (342) about why the group was
digging in the ground. Once the Runa realized that the gardens grew food they too began to garden
(346). As the food in the Runa gardens grew, the fat levels and hormone production rose (346). Thus,
Runa sexual activity became more frequent, and therefore, the natality rate increased.
Soon, because of the increase in population, there was a slaughter of the Runa village. Only two
humans on the mission survived (378). The two remaining humans, Emilio and Marc, were then taken
prisoner[s] immediately (380). Once they were prisoners, they were fed some sort of meat. Despite
Emilio s effort to convince him otherwise, Marc refused to eat the food he was given throughout the
imprisonment. As the imprisonment went on, Emilio eventually found out he was eating, the meat of
the innocents (380). Emilio continued eating the meat even after he knew; his soul was hardly
functioning. As he had watched children and his close friends die, he was in such a state of despair
that his soul barely even noticed what he was doing. The gardens led to high hormone levels, which
led to more babies. The babies led to the murder of Emilio s good friends and Runa. Then the two
surviving humans were imprisoned by the patrol that performed the slaughter.

How Did The Clock Impact The Ancient World
Many of the greatest inventions ever to be created were coined in ancient China. Soap, gunpowder,
even alcohol was first made in China, long ago. The clock, however, is, I believe, the most important
of all the great chinese inventions. It tells us when to get up in the morning, when to be at school, at
work, how long to brush your teeth, everything! The world runs completely on time, and it s all
because of a certain man who changed the course of the future by just wanting to find out how to tell
time more precisely than sundials and non mechanical water clocks.. Yi Xing, who developed the clock
and who lived during the Tang Dynasty in the Chinese Civilization, impacted both the ancient and
modern world by inventing the most impactful invention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yi Xing, the inventor of the first clock, originally invented it for horoscopes, astronomical purposes,
and of course the time of day. Now, of course, we use it for much more then that. The whole human
society runs by the clock, and without the development of this specific clock, time would be
completely different. It would be like missing the first step on the stairs. You would fall down them
and land on your face. Where would that put time now? Would we still be stuck on sundials and
shadows? Maybe people would have abandoned that time set, and adopted a whole other system of
time. People would have different intervals of time, different ways of telling time, different
everything! However, the clock was made, and so no one even notices because they are too busy
running off to the next place. All because of time. Too bad Xing s clock didn t make time longer! The
clock Z=Xing made is very important for today s society. Even if it was too futuristic for its time and
wasn t used too often, the design for this clock was used time and time again, and it developed into the
clock we know

Summary Of The Devil And Miss Prym And Shirley Jackson s...
Paulo Coelho, writer of The Devil and Miss Prym and Shirley Jackson, writer of The Lottery , both
reiterate the idea that a democratic government can be very dangerous if wrong propositions are voted
upon by a public. Likewise in both stories, wrong decisions are made by society, and bring conflict
and chaos to a village. People are put in a life or death scenario, and little or nothing could be done
because society chose to believe that doing wrong was justified morally. In The Devil and Miss Prym,
a young girl by the name of Chantal is put in a difficult situation when a stranger comes into the small
village of Viscos. The stranger brings an evil proposition to her and the rest of Viscos that would bring
the evil out of everyone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The one chosen is to be stoned by the town people. Even though this would seem unfair, it was
believed that such tradition would keep a stable environment among the crops and the town itself. In
the end, a mother by the name of Tessie Hutchinson is chosen to be stoned. In both stories the main
types of conflict are between people versus society. Some would argue this is the worst type of
conflict because it is a single person against a democratic government or societal group where
everyone is opposed to your point of view. Even if the wrong decisions are being made, little or
nothing can be done since everyone voted upon it. In The Devil and Miss Prym, Chantal is opposed to
killing anyone for money. She saw these actions inhuman, especially when killing an old lady who did
not deserve to die in that way. Chantal goes against Viscos and uses fear as a way to stop them from
executing the murder. She states that getting the money after the murder wasn t going to be as easy as
it seemed, and that authorities will get involved once they go and cash in the gold bricks. Meaning
they would get caught sooner or later for committing a murder and the consequences were going to be
much severe than expected. Little by little, the views of the town people started to change and one by
one everyone started to leave back home. (Coelho, 190 197). Coelho also demonstrates person versus
society when Chantal is held responsible for

Achondroplasia Essay
Achondroplasia (ACH) is the most common form of short limb dwarfism occuring in 1 in 15,000 to
28,000 births and appears to be slightly more prevalent in females, but indiscriminent toward race (1
3). Evidence has been found in Egypt for cases of ACH dating back as far as 4500 B.C. (4). In
simplest terms, ACH is a disease where the dwarfing of bones formed in the cartilage occurs (5).
There are many features that accompany this disease including rhizomelic (proximal) shortening of
the extremities, megalencephaly (enlarged brain), short stature, trident hand, and frontal bossing
(prominent forehead) (1, 3, 4, 6 8). Expression of this gene at high levels is primarily found in cells of

A point mutation is one where only one nucleotide is changed and a missense mutation is when the
amino acid changes due to the base(s) mutated. FGFR3 consists of 19 exons, with the mutation
occuring in exon 10 (1, 16). Furthermore, the mutated base is 1138, where the base can undergo two
possible mutations. G(guanine)→A(adenine) transition accounts for 98% of all cases of ACH while
the G→C(cytosine) transversion mutation occurs in 1% of cases (6). Both of these mutations result in
the amino acid arginine being substituted for glycine at codon 380 which is in the transmembrane of
FGFR3 (1, 4, 17) (See Figure 1). The FGFR3 mutation is a gain of function mutation due to the
resulting activation of receptors, which is opposite the normal inhibitory effect the FGFR3 has on the
receptors, which upon activation, negatively regulate bone growth (4, 6). Thus, FGFR3 has been
found to become hyperactivated when mutated and undergo ligand independent dimerization (1, 11,
18). De novo mutations account for 80 90% of all cases of ACH (1, 4, 7, 8, 11). Recent research has
determined that increased paternal age correlates to this specific mutation occuring (4, 7, 11, 19). The
maternal age seems to have no effect, meaning that the de novo mutation occurs during
spermatogenesis (20). This has also been studied and each affected individual was found to have
received the mutated chromosome paternally (21). There has only been one documented case of an

My Life Of Juana
Juana was forced to leave Mexico by her parents because they wanted a superior life for her which left
her heartbroken. Many migrate to the U.S for a better life, but for Juana, this was her biggest fear. She
loved the country she was born in, and the city that build her. However, she realized how amazing it is
to face a new world and the mysteries you can discover. She was living in a world filled with joy,
laughter, and peace. Her childhood was her favorite memorable moment in Mexico. I remember
during the summer; the flowers would bloom and together with my friends would create a different
design with each flower we found. said Juana. The smell of tortillas was her favorite smell of the
entire world, so every time she smelled a tortilla she felt right at home. She lived in a ranch close to a
city called Dolores Hidalgo. The ranch that Juana was from were a lot of trees covered in dust, and
there was a stream where they would wash their clothes and they would take showers. The ranch was
about 4 acres, she lived with 2 older brothers. The house they lived in was a simple house made of
adobe. Dolores Hidalgo was the nearest city to their home. The city that s filled with beautiful trees
and music. Juana would of never imagine of leaving her best loved city.
Juana s parents didn t want her to have a rough life even if she felt like she was in the right place to
live. At the age of 21 Juana was told she was going to face a new life and she immediately poured
tears. The immigration security guard glared at Juana and asked, Why are you coming to the Unites
States? Juana looked at him with innocence and spoke, My parents are going to visit some family
members. The guard looked at her parents and said, Okay, let me see your visas in a vociferous voice.
Juana stared at the guard and her heartbeat began to increase, not from running but from the
anxiousness. The guard looked at Juana in the eyes and spoke with confidence, I m so sorry but you
and your parents can t leave the country , Juana immediately grinned. Juana s parents were told they
needed more documents, so Juana was still at risk on leaving her country. She ran and told everyone
the news, Juana was happier than ever. 2 Years went by and

Krios, Koios, Hyperion and Iapetos were posted at the four corners of the world where they seized
hold of the Sky god and held him fast, while Kronos, hidden in the centre, castrated him with a sickle.
In this myth, Iapetos and the three brothers represent the four cosmic pillars which appear in Near
Eastern cosmogonies holding heaven and earth apart. Iapetos himself was no doubt the pillar of the
west, a position which was later and more obviously held by his son Atlas. Iapetos the piercer may
also have been regarded as the Titan god of the mortal life span. Indeed, his sons Prometheus and
Epimetheus were represented as the creators of mankind and other mortal creatures.
Iapetos may have been the Titan god who presided over the mortal life span who assigned mortal
creatures their finite lot. Like his brother Titanes, he was a god of time, one of the sons of Ouranos,
the great dome of heaven which measured all of time. Iapetos, as one of the more destructive Titanes,
is described by Homer seated beside Kronos (all devouring time) in the depths of the Tartarean pit.
Iapetos and his bride Klymene might have been conceived with a variety of functions. Firstly, as the
god of mortality, Iapetos is the piercer, the god of violent death. His wife Klymene, in this sense,
would naturally be a chthonian (or netherworld) goddess, and indeed, the

10)! Edwards actually calls for the repeal of farmer subsidies and claims agriculture would thrive
without subsidies (para 40). He further claims that: It is normal for people to fear economic change,
but many industries have been radically reformed in recent decades with positive results, including the
airline, trucking, telecommunications and energy industries. If farm subsidies were ended, and
agriculture markets deregulated and open to entrepreneurs, farming would change different crops
would be planted, land usage would change.... But a stronger and more innovative industry would
likely emerge having greater resilience to shocks and downturns (para. 40). I agree with Edwards as he
makes a good argument that if other companies can survive economic change without a bailout, why
can t the farm industry do the same? He also states the whole system is practically corrupt because of
political involvement in the process as the many legislators have an interest in increasing the USDA s

After reading the article on The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction by Walter
Benjamin, it gives a lot of things to think about art these days and how it should be, whether the
thinking of Walter Benjamin is relevant to our age of society these days is a different part of the story
but how he interprets art in the article is a totally different thing, so let us view a bit about his article.
Our fine arts were developed, their types and uses were established, in times very different from the
present, by men whose power of action upon things was insignificant in comparison with ours. But the
amazing growth of our techniques, the adaptability and precision they have attained, the ideas and

I feel that he has a lot of valid points when he says that our mass production and reproduction of art
does not contain the aura that it is supposed to be. This is true because reproduction does not give the
audience a private feeling towards the work of art since it is not the real thing, it is only a
reproduction. A whole new perception of art is introduced to us, but at the same time, it also gives a
whole new meaning of the art and a mode of distraction to the audience. The aura of arts in the
mechanical world, as Walter said, has been moved into a mythological space and into the cult of
genius.
Moving on to the similarities between his article and the movie Shadow Magic that has been directed
by Ann Hu. When seeing the movie and trying to relate with Walter s article, I think the most crucial
and obvious part is about the aura that Walter has been mentioning again and again in his writing.

As I said before, the aura of art is different when human reproduces it because it has lost its aura
because we do not experience the original thing and seeing that we can see almost everything at a

The Between Religion And Music Essay
Music and religion are often intertwined, whether it be religious chanting or hymns used to worship.
However, in the case of Islam, the relationship between religion and music is more strained, as Islamic
law strictly forbids listening to music. However, there is a very strong religious debate on what
constitutes music as diversion and what is acceptable to use in worship and religious purposes. There
are two concepts in Islam which are relevant to this conversation: sama and ghina. The ghina is the
simpler of the two, referring to music and performance associated with secular art music; this is
normally banished. Ghina is the only genre which is referred to as music . The sama, on the other
hand, is more complex. Sama, which literally means listening and thus, includes the music being
listened to (as well as dance as performed by mystic societies) is more complex. The abundance of
writings about the sama is chiefly due to the debate surrounding the legality of music and dance from
a legal, mystical, and religious perspective. Some elements of music have been categorized as
acceptable sama by religious authorities, including Koran cantillation, singing of unaccompanied
hymns, old Bedouin songs, and simple functional folk songs used to mark events in a community or
individual s life, thus considering them to be non music .
Since the beginning of Islam, there has been disagreement on what is to be considered sama, with
religious leaders stances ranging from

Chapter 3: The use of cloud computing technology in business and educational organizations. In this
chapter, the researcher describes how the businesses and educational organizations use cloud
computing technology and how they benefit from using it. In addition, the researcher also covers the
advantages of cloud computing from an economic perspective. Then, the researcher will give an
explanation of how cloud computing technology relates toward intercultural communication in the
organization. The last point the researcher will discuss is the information technology rules of cloud
computing for firms and educational organizations by governing cloud computing in the institution.
3.1 Cloud computing for commercial organizations For commercial organizations, cloud computing
does not mean putting all data information in virtual storage on the Internet network such as iCloud,
which is serviced by the Apple Company. Cloud computing in commercial organization means the
firm and business to gain lower barriers to entry into business because of cost effectiveness in IT, the
ability can grow faster, the significant scalability and flexibility of IT bases and cloud services. On the
other hand, the cloud computing technology is not a miracle service, which always benefits every
business (Colt, 2014, n.p.g.). Consequently, any commercial organization has to consider the different

Paramount Decision Vs Hollywood Blacklist
The Paramount decision and the Hollywood blacklist were two major milestones that brought
dramatic changes to the film industry. The Paramount decision was a ruling made by the Supreme
Court in 1948, against the activities of the major studios called the Big 5, which were the main fully
integrated film studios between 1920 and 1948. The ruling stated that the major studios practiced bad
business tactics that included block booking and blind buying and that this in fact formed a monopoly
of the film industry. The Hollywood black list was a 20th century practice of denying screenwriters,
directors, actors, musicians and other U.S. entertainers because of their political associations. This list
was created by a group of individuals that believed that certain entertainment professionals persons
were affiliated with communists. This list of persons was not able to produce, act, or work on or in any
films during this dark period in film industry history (The Independent Producers and the Paramount
Case, 1938 1949 http://www.cobbles.com/simpp_archive/paramountcase_6supreme1948.htm). ...

Monody Context

About Widget FAQ Contact
The concept of monody was detrimental in the progression of music from the Renaissance era into the
Baroque, shaping operatic arias into what we know them to be. Monody is a musical texture
consisting of a single solo voice, supported by a free instrumental bass line. The voice line is often
simple yet ornate, using embellishments to motivate the ideas of the libretto. Whilst having simple
chordal accompaniment usually played on a lute, harpsichord, guitar or harp the listener can be
focused on the text and meaning of the recitative and aria. Two of the more noteworthy developments
of the transition from the Renaissance era to that of the Baroque, was the step away from choral

Florence, Italy said to be the heart of Baroque music. He spent a lot of his time as not just a composer

  • 3. Research Paper On Dodo Bird The Mysterious Dodo Picture yourself running through the woods as quickly as your legs can move you, with a heap of emotions running through your brain. You feel betrayed, offended, helpless, terrified. You had never been an aggressive animal. You were friendly, you didn t eat animals, and it s not like you had the abilities to overpower anything if you did eat them. This may aid your imagination of what the dodo bird went through while being hunted down by the Portuguese. The dodo bird may seem like a tedious animal; However, the bird, it s misconception, and how it became extinct are intriguing in a way that you may find odd. The dodo bird is not an extremely famous bird, like the beautiful parrot, or the perfectly pink flamingo. Many people aren t educated on what the bird was genuinely like, or even what the bird is. The dodo is a flightless bird from an island in the Indian Ocean called Mauritius. It is part of the Raphidae family(Dodo 1), which consists of pigeons and doves. The dodo clings to the forest in Mauritius and has been extinct since the 17th century(Extinct Bird 1), eating only nuts, fruits, or seeds it found on the ground(Viral Stats). The dodo bird has a comical appearance, that one could only imagine. It s unique visuals were small useless wings, thick yellow legs, and a tuft of feathers high on its rear end (Dodo 2). • 5. The Economic Benefits Of Economic Welfare Essay Economic welfare is defined as the well being or standard of living of an individual or individuals taking part in an economy (Business Dictionary, 2015). This can be measured through statistics such as individual income, health care expense, educational achievement and opportunity for economic growth. The better one fares among these categories, the more likely one is to have a higher standard of living and possess an inherent socio economic advantage. Currently, the aboriginal population scores poorly across all of these standards. Despite government incentives, the average indigenous person is born into an economic disadvantage with little room for vertical movement, indicating a need for major social and legislative change. Among the aboriginal population in 2005, 18.7% of individuals living with family were below the poverty line. Unattached, or single, individuals were even more likely to fall into this low income bracket at 42.8%. Conversely, these rates among the non aboriginal population were 8.4% and 28.0% respectively (Collin Jensen, 2009). These numbers highlight the economic disparity Aboriginals face, the cause of which lies rooted in their historical mistreatment. To better understand the situation today and how it came to be, one must begin by looking at early Canadian policy involving Aboriginals. The first important document concerned with indigenous rights was the Royal Proclamation. Signed in 1763, it recognized the sovereignty of the aboriginal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cobb Museum Essay Kyle Walker Intro to Anthropology Dr. Jean Marcus November 16, 2012 Cobb Museum Paper The Cobb Institute Museum at Mississippi State University displays items from the Old World and the New World. When I visited the museum I noticed a wide variety of artifacts. The Old world side contained pieces from many Old World countries, while the New World side featured a lot of pieces that are from local areas. Since there was such a vast number of artifacts at the Cobb Museum, I have decided to focus on the clay vessels and etchings in the Old and New World. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was glad to see that some of the pots were setting upside down. I liked how I was able to see what the bottoms looked like. The Cobb Museum had a collection of Old World oil lamps. One lamp was cream colored and teardrop shaped. The top was adorned with a thin u shaped decoration. Small etched circles added a decorated touch. The top of the lamp had a small looped handle. At the back of the case there was an interesting oil lamp. It was tan colored with hints of red. The handle looked like the back fin of a whale. Next to the spout was a floral design. Two gazelles with long, thin horns graced the sides of the lamp (http://www.cobb.msstate.edu/museum/). The lamp that stood out the most was a black lamp with four spouts from Rome (Cobb). It was the only displayed lamp with multiple spouts. Two of the spouts were missing, but it was obvious where the missing ones would have been. The two remaining spouts had wide openings. The lamp had protruding triangles between each spout to give the lamp a diamond shape. All of the oil lamps in Cobb were varied and unique. The replica of the Rosetta Stone was obviously one of the most interesting pieces in the museum. I am ashamed to admit that prior to taking Anthropology, I did not know what the Rosetta Stone was. This very important artifact was made in 196 B.C. It is a shiny black stone with three different sections of writings: ancient Greek, a Demotic script, and Egyptian hieroglyphs ... • 9. Vladek s Relationship In Maus The award winning graphic novel Maus is a first person story of Art Spiegelman s father, a Holocaust survivor. However, through the narrative, the author conveys not only the dynamic character of his father, Vladek, but also subtly discloses his own complexity through his commentary on his father s experiences. In his interesting elucidation, he reveals that he may be just as fascinating of a character, if not more so, than the dynamic persona of his father. In Maus, close reading proves that Art characterizes himself through his portrayal of his relationship with his father, and his feelings for his mother. One of the largest factors that defines Art s character is his complex relationship with his father. While Maus generally details his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the author does not explicitly talk about Anja as much as Vladek, the few times that Art reveals his thoughts are emotionally rich in context. The most notable of these powerful moments is the author s comic, Prisoner On the Hell Planet, in which he depicts his feelings over his mother s suicide. When he describes the last time he saw her, he adds that when she came to him, [he] turned away, resentful of the way she tightened the umbilical cord (103). Art s abhorrence toward his mother and the pessimistic view on her helplessness is startlingly selfish, and he continues the negative tone in the next frame where when he is reflecting upon her actions. Art condemns his mother, saying that, [she] murdered [him]...and [she] left [him] to take all the rap, reinforcing the accusing and selfish attitude of the author at this point in time (103). The emotions that the author illustrates with his diction and dark, macabre drawings demonstrate the negativity associated with the event in the author s life. In addition, the attitude he portrays toward his mother before and after her suicide in the comic give the impression that he was distant from his mother as well as his father. The author blames his mother for for the psychological damage she has done to him at this point in his life, but despite his contempt, it is evident he still loves her because he refers to Anja as mommy (103). Additionally, the author s thoughts at the time of the comic s writing contradict with his understanding in the present, which demonstrates a maturity in Art s view on the relationship. For example, when Vladek tells his son that he used to have Anja s diaries of her story, Art replies in astonishment and says that [he] need[s] those for this book (84). Tarrega The Black Death Analysis In the text The Black Death and its Consequences for the Jewish Community in Tarrega, the authors note that the discovery of communal burial sites in Tarrega (ca. 2007) now provides archeological evidence for the documentary records of the mass murder of Jews in July, 1348. Long before the discovery of the six communal grave sites, testimonies such as that of Hayyim Galipapa (1310 1380) have provided textual records for the mass killing of Jews during the spread of the plague. Ellen Kirschman, author of I Love a FireFighter, suggests proven ways to treat cases of traumatic stress that is experienced while on the job. Her suggestions include cognitive behavioral therapy, exercise, medications, and eye movement and desensitization reprocessing, commonly known as EMDR. In addition to these professional coping options, other coping mechanisms include expressing yourself and sharing your fears and experience, creating a mission for your life to create meaning, and distracting yourself which can provide a little temporary relief with something new and engaging to occupy your thoughts. (p.189) I believe based on this information, it may be more helpful for a firefighter and other emergency responders to cope via the latter mentioned mechanisms because they focus more on the individual s fears, experiences, and emotions. Creating meaning in your life and finding enjoyable hobbies to distract from work can help to unload much of the stress from the job. Furthermore, researchers tend to agree that expressing your emotion is beneficial for dealing with stress. According to the authors of the paper Trauma exposed Firefighters , Firefighters and other first responders often engage in approach oriented coping strategies such as problem focused coping rather than emotion focused or avoidance coping (p.357) Emotion and avoidance coping mechanisms often involve seeking emotional support and positive reframing (p.358) By reframing ones view of the world through positive associations, firefighters and other emergency responders are better equipped to deal the trauma and stress from being on the job because it is a holistic effort to change their point of view rather than just trying to deal with one specific ... Although the poem is a tough lyrical poem to understand, it is as if the poet feels the pain and bleakness from the day to day repetitiveness of life; therefore, seeks to disappear into the make believe world of the Nightingale to find relief which eventually leads him to acknowledgment. While listening to the Nightingale sing, the poet describes Greek and Roman figures to enhance the feelings he is portraying. FGFR3 consists of 19 exons, with the mutation occuring in exon 10 (1, 16). Furthermore, the mutated base is 1138, where the base can undergo two possible mutations. G(guanine)→A(adenine) transition accounts for 98% of all cases of ACH while the G→C(cytosine) transversion mutation occurs in 1% of cases (6). Both of these mutations result in the amino acid arginine being substituted for glycine at codon 380 which is in the transmembrane of FGFR3 (1, 4, 17) (See Figure 1). The FGFR3 mutation is a gain of function mutation due to the resulting activation of receptors, which is opposite the normal inhibitory effect the FGFR3 has on the receptors, which upon activation, negatively regulate bone growth (4, 6). Thus, FGFR3 has been found to become hyperactivated when mutated and undergo ligand independent dimerization (1, 11, 18). De novo mutations account for 80 90% of all cases of ACH (1, 4, 7, 8, 11). I remember during the summer; the flowers would bloom and together with my friends would create a different design with each flower we found. said Juana. The smell of tortillas was her favorite smell of the entire world, so every time she smelled a tortilla she felt right at home. She lived in a ranch close to a city called Dolores Hidalgo. The city that s filled with beautiful trees and music. Juana would of never imagine of leaving her best loved city. At the age of 21 Juana was told she was going to face a new life and she immediately poured tears. The immigration security guard glared at Juana and asked, Why are you coming to the Unites States? Juana looked at him with innocence and spoke, My parents are going to visit some family members. The guard looked at her parents and said, Okay, let me see your visas in a vociferous voice. Religion has always had a powerful effect on nations, even more so than the military or the political system in which the civilization confides in. In ancient Greek society, their higher deities were constantly being thought of and implicated in their society. Krios, Koios, Hyperion and Iapetos were posted at the four corners of the world where they seized hold of the Sky god and held him fast, while Kronos, hidden in the centre, castrated him with a sickle. In this myth, Iapetos and the three brothers represent the four cosmic pillars which appear in Near Eastern cosmogonies holding heaven and earth apart. Iapetos himself was no doubt the pillar of the west, a position which was later and more obviously held by his son Atlas. Iapetos the piercer may also have been regarded as the Titan god of the mortal life span. Indeed, his sons Prometheus and Epimetheus were represented as the creators of mankind and other mortal creatures. Iapetos may have been the Titan god who presided over the mortal life span who assigned mortal creatures their finite lot. Like his brother Titanes, he was a god of time, one of the sons of Ouranos, the great dome of heaven which measured all of time. Iapetos, as one of the more destructive Titanes, is described by Homer seated beside Kronos (all devouring time) in the depths of the Tartarean pit. Iapetos and his bride Klymene might have been conceived with a variety of functions. Firstly, as the god of mortality, Iapetos is the piercer, the god of violent death. His wife Klymene, in this sense, would naturally be a chthonian (or netherworld) goddess, and indeed, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Poverty Obesity Connection between Poverty and Obesity English 135 DeVry University Farm subsidy payments are over $10 billion and are authorized to make payments to people who aren t even farmers anymore (Morgan, Gaul, Cohen, 2006, para. 3). This has been going on, in some cases, over 10 years (para. 6). As long as you owned the farmland, you don t even have to be growing anything and you would continue to receive a subsidy check (para. 3). Bottom line is all these billions of dollars in government subsidies contribute to lowering the cost of processed foods; not a good occurrence if you have low income and cannot afford the high cost of healthier foods. Edwards actually calls for the repeal of farmer subsidies and claims agriculture would thrive without subsidies (para 40). He further claims that: It is normal for people to fear economic change, but many industries have been radically reformed in recent decades with positive results, including the airline, trucking, telecommunications and energy industries. If farm subsidies were ended, and agriculture markets deregulated and open to entrepreneurs, farming would change different crops would be planted, land usage would change.... But a stronger and more innovative industry would likely emerge having greater resilience to shocks and downturns (para. 40). I agree with Edwards as he makes a good argument that if other companies can survive economic change without a bailout, why can t the farm industry do the same? He also states the whole system is practically corrupt because of political involvement in the process as the many legislators have an interest in increasing the USDA s budget (para. 6). The whole system needs reform and subsidies need to be reduced or repealed. Another reason to reduce the government subsidies is because another by product of corn that is produced in overabundance is High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), which has replaced pure cane sugar because it is cheaper to produce (Pollan, p. 104). After reading the article on The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction by Walter Benjamin, it gives a lot of things to think about art these days and how it should be, whether the thinking of Walter Benjamin is relevant to our age of society these days is a different part of the story but how he interprets art in the article is a totally different thing, so let us view a bit about his article. Our fine arts were developed, their types and uses were established, in times very different from the present, by men whose power of action upon things was insignificant in comparison with ours. I feel that he has a lot of valid points when he says that our mass production and reproduction of art does not contain the aura that it is supposed to be. This is true because reproduction does not give the audience a private feeling towards the work of art since it is not the real thing, it is only a reproduction. A whole new perception of art is introduced to us, but at the same time, it also gives a whole new meaning of the art and a mode of distraction to the audience. The aura of arts in the mechanical world, as Walter said, has been moved into a mythological space and into the cult of genius. Moving on to the similarities between his article and the movie Shadow Magic that has been directed by Ann Hu. • 33. The Between Religion And Music Essay Music and religion are often intertwined, whether it be religious chanting or hymns used to worship. However, in the case of Islam, the relationship between religion and music is more strained, as Islamic law strictly forbids listening to music. However, there is a very strong religious debate on what constitutes music as diversion and what is acceptable to use in worship and religious purposes. There are two concepts in Islam which are relevant to this conversation: sama and ghina. The ghina is the simpler of the two, referring to music and performance associated with secular art music; this is normally banished. Ghina is the only genre which is referred to as music . The sama, on the other hand, is more complex. Sama, which literally means listening and thus, includes the music being listened to (as well as dance as performed by mystic societies) is more complex. The abundance of writings about the sama is chiefly due to the debate surrounding the legality of music and dance from a legal, mystical, and religious perspective. Some elements of music have been categorized as acceptable sama by religious authorities, including Koran cantillation, singing of unaccompanied hymns, old Bedouin songs, and simple functional folk songs used to mark events in a community or individual s life, thus considering them to be non music . Since the beginning of Islam, there has been disagreement on what is to be considered sama, with religious leaders stances ranging from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Paramount decision was a ruling made by the Supreme Court in 1948, against the activities of the major studios called the Big 5, which were the main fully integrated film studios between 1920 and 1948. The ruling stated that the major studios practiced bad business tactics that included block booking and blind buying and that this in fact formed a monopoly of the film industry. The Hollywood black list was a 20th century practice of denying screenwriters, directors, actors, musicians and other U.S. entertainers because of their political associations. This list was created by a group of individuals that believed that certain entertainment professionals persons were affiliated with communists. This list of persons was not able to produce, act, or work on or in any films during this dark period in film industry history (The Independent Producers and the Paramount Case, 1938 1949 http://www.cobbles.com/simpp_archive/paramountcase_6supreme1948.htm). ... Monody Context Quetext About Widget FAQ Contact The concept of monody was detrimental in the progression of music from the Renaissance era into the Baroque, shaping operatic arias into what we know them to be. Monody is a musical texture consisting of a single solo voice, supported by a free instrumental bass line. The voice line is often simple yet ornate, using embellishments to motivate the ideas of the libretto. Whilst having simple chordal accompaniment usually played on a lute, harpsichord, guitar or harp the listener can be focused on the text and meaning of the recitative and aria. Another well known solo madrigal of the Baroque era is Giulio Caccini s 1602 piece Amarilli mia bella from Le nuove musiche. Caccini spent most of his life in Florence, Italy said to be the heart of Baroque music. He spent a lot of his time as not just a composer and singer of the Medici court, but also a spy for the youngest son of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Pietro de Medici. Caccini was supported by other Florentine nobles, one being Giovanni de Bardi leader of the Florentine Camerata .
