Environmental Concerns And Climate Change
Proposed Research
Environmental concerns and climate change are influencing and shaping the future of the power
industry. As a result, the electricity required to meet the growing demand is mainly generated from
renewable energy resources, and this trend is expected to continue in the next decades [1]. Hydro and
wind are major renewable energy resources and are free of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. This makes
them valuable environmentally sustainable and economic resources for power generation around the
world. A hydro wind hybrid power system is an excellent combination for improved reliability, where
the resources abound [3]. In Newfoundland and Labrador, there is enormous potential for hydro and
wind renewable energy resources, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This condition imposes unique challenges on the planning and operation of a hydro wind integrated
power system in a reliable manner [8]. Previous studies on wind penetration issues and solutions
found that the limiting factors of wind integration include penetration level, forecasting reliability,
geographic diversity, hydro generation flexibility and control of the overall system [6]. Control is a
key enabling factor for the deployment of renewable energy systems [9]. Control techniques such as
linear and dynamic programming, genetic algorithms, and neural networks, proposed by past research,
for the control and economic dispatch of renewable energy systems, have not been acknowledged to
be error free [3]. Two major flaws identified in existing techniques include the lack of ease of use, and
adaptability to new situations and evolving regulations [3]. These flaws pose major operational
challenges to utilities and thus, make control technologies optimization an imperative research
endeavor.
In 1998, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Policy 1 Generation Control
and Performance Standard (CPS) was enforced to ensure effective frequency control in interconnected
power systems. In this policy, for example, it is required that each balancing authority shall achieve, as
a minimum, CPS1 compliance of 100% (a measure of the correlation between a

The American Dream Analyzed in the Great Gatsby Essay
The Great Gatsby:
The American Dream
Their love is founded upon feelings from the past, these give it, notwithstanding Gatsby s insistence
on being able to repeat the past, an inviolability. It exists in the world of money and corruption but is
not of it.
The Great Gatsby, a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is about the American Dream, and the demise of
those who attempt to capture its false goals. For Jay, the dream is that, through wealth and power, one
can obtain happiness. To get this happiness Jay must reach into the past and relive an old dream and in
order to do this he must have wealth and power.
Jay Gatsby, the central figure of the story, is a character who longs for the past. He devotes most of his

Nick attempts to show Gatsby the flaw of his dream, but Gatsby innocently replies to Nick s statement
that the past cannot be relived by saying, Can t repeat the past? Why of course you can! This shows
the confidence that Gatsby has in reviving his relationship with Daisy. Gatsby s American Dream is
not material possessions, although it may seem that way. He only comes into riches so that he can
fulfill his true dream, Daisy. Gatsby s personal dream symbolizes the larger American Dream where
all have the opportunity to get what they want.
Gatsby won t rest until his dream is finally lived. However, it never comes about and he ends up
paying the ultimate price for it. The idea of the American Dream has come to be focused on simple,
yet somewhat unattainable things such as wealth, love, or fame. There is one thing that never changes
about the American Dream; everyone desires something in life, and everyone, somehow, strives to get
it.
A big house, nice cars, kids, a dog, a beautiful devoted spouse, power and a ridiculous amount of
money. That is the classical American Dream, at least for some. The American Dream is tangible
perfection while in reality perfection does not exist. Living the American Dream is living in
perfection, which is truly impossible. Fitzgerald proves that the wonderful American Dream is
unattainable through the novel The Great Gatsby by using vain, yet amusing characters.

Argumentative Essay On Stem Cells And Cloning
Stem cells and cloning have been around for a long time now. This process of this research has caused
controversy and it has a lot of people wondering. The research on the development of stem cells and
cloning has benefits scientifically, ethnically, and medically that are outgrowing today s surrounding
controversy. Adult and/or Embryonic stem cells are conjoined with animal cells to clone. In the
process of cloning, genetic material is transferred between the human and the animal cell.
To begin with, stem cells can establish several different cell types in the human body during the times
of early life and growth. Stem cells are unspecialized cells that are capable of renewing themselves
through the division of a cell.

After the embryos were used for the experiment they were donated for extended research with the
permission of the informed donor.
In the year of 2006, the researchers made a progress by identifying several conditions that would
allow a small amount of specialized adult cells to be developed naturally and to conclude a stem cell
state called the Induced Pluripotent of Stem Cells.
On the other hand, stem cells are important for living organisms. In a Blastocyst, which is a 3 5 day
old embryo, gives improvement and rise to the entire body of an organism. The organism includes
several types of specialized cells such as the heart, lungs, skin, sperm, eggs and many other tissues.
Stem cells can multiply and when they do, they multiply for months in a laboratory while yielding
millions of cells. Parent stem cells are unspecialized cells, if the resulting of the new cells that are

Enjambment And Imagery In Langston Hughes s Mother To Son
The poem Mother to Son written by Langston Hughes, reflects on the lessons that a Black mother was
obligated to teach their child about in the early 19th century. The poem is to be read in the second
person perspective, as it employs enjambment, diction, and imagery to put emphasis on the
expectations and hardships Black children adapt to in order to ensure their well being as a person of
color. Hughes purposefully creates this poem as if his mother created it for him to reveal the unfair
conversations and lessons children like the author have to understand if they want to reach their goals;
furthermore, Hughes achieves this with his soulful use of diction, enjambment, and imagery within the
poem. The author s poem consists of the particular use of diction known as African American
Vernacular English, which is a dialect similar to American English. The diction portrayed in the poem
symbolizes the profound and empowering words spoken when a mother inspires her child to
overcome their battles, more specifically in this poem to never turn [their] back.. [to never] set down
on the steps (14 15). In the beginning of Mother to Son, the narrator figuratively describes how life
wasn t a crystal stair[case] for them, but in fact, stairs that had had tacks...splinters..boards torn up...
places with no carpet...bare (2 7). Repeatedly describing the coarse stairway with adjectives that are
associated with ideas of pain or struggle intentionally exposes the reader to the misery Black people
had to endure. Additionally, the narrator continues to apply this throughout the poem to elaborate on
the fact that this struggle is still endured, and these lessons are still taught. Towards the end of the
poem, additional diction of African American Vernacular English continually demonstrates that
mother had kept climbing that same stairwell from the beginning: [they ve] been a climbin on/ And
reachin landin s/ And turnin corners/ And sometimes goin in the dark/ Where there ain t been no light
(9 13). The actions described in this quote build off the adjectives the author employed earlier;
however, instead of displaying struggle, these actions encourage motivation and consistency. The flow
of words using diction also

Food In Japanese Food Culture
For those who don t know, Japan is an island off the coast of China in the Northern Hemisphere of the
world. One of the most important parts of Japanese culture is the cuisine. Something that might not be
known is that most of the food in Japan today was introduced when Buddhism started to spread
throughout the country. Although most of the food the citizens eat is made with ingredients from the
island, the country is a very food varied place. There are many different types of cooking in Japan,
some of which were adopted from other countries, but they all have a Japanese spin to them. The
cuisine is a good reflection of Japanese culture because it reflects the elements of geography, religion,
and customs. The use of rice in Japanese food culture is a long standing tradition that is found to be
very important to every meal ate on the island. Japan was actually introduced to the world of rice by
southern China many years ago (Web Japan). After this original introduction during the Edo period,
the rice was cultivated into wet rice paddies that the Japanese would eat (Web Japan). This use of rice
stuck around for nearly two thousand years before the Japanese started creating other ways to use the
rice they grew. When the rice was introduced the Japanese dedicated a large part of the island to
farming rice. The Japanese use so much land for just farming rice because of the large quantity that
they eat. In almost every meal that is eaten in Japan, rice is served (Katz 318).

Good Intentions Destroyed in Frankenstein
In Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, good intentions are destroyed by ambitious, selfish, and
disrespectful behavior. Frankenstein along with the creature, although seemingly different in
personalities, have many characteristics that interlock with each other creating a suspenseful plot filled
with good intentions that are never fully executed. Dominance is a reoccurring theme in Frankenstein
as both Victor Frankenstein, himself, and the creature strive to be perfect in every task they preform.
Although that strive for excellence may be a quality that many wish to attain, the intentions of both
Frankenstein and the creature are shattered due to their behaviors. As Frankenstein embarks on
adventures whose outcomes are not what he predicts, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While in Paris, Victor receives a letter from Elizabeth saying, [t]ell me, dearest Victor. Answer me, I
conjure you, by our mutual happiness, with simple truth Do you not love another? (Shelley 194).
Elizabeth is convinced that Frankenstein has found another love that satisfies him more when he is on
his journeys although she writes in the most respectful way. Frankenstein is aware that Elizabeth will
believe anything that he says and he is able to use that to his advantage knowing that Elizabeth will
wait great lengths of time as she already has to marry him. In his response to Elizabeth s letter, he
justifies his love to her but also informs her he has one secret, Elizabeth, a dreadful one; when
revealed to you, it will chill your frame with horror, and then, far from being surprised at my misery,
you will only wonder that I have surprised what I have endured (Shelley 196). Frankenstein is
desperate to marry Elizabeth still knowing the consequences of his actions as the creature previously
tells him. Conscientious of his decisions, out of his selfish love for Elizabeth, Victor wants to marry
Elizabeth and tell her of the threat only after the ceremony is finished. Although Frankenstein does
have a good intention in marrying Elizabeth, it is destroyed by his selfish behavior.

Dracula And Gothic Essay
The Gothic genre does suppress vulnerable women. They are exploited in order to please the
tyrannical male and feed his desires. When the women is no longer of use, she is then discarded. The
Gothic genre is described as formulaic and one of the key features is a tyrannical male who abuses his
power to assert his dominance over a perceived futile women. Bram Stoker s Dracula was written in
time where women started to want more equal rights and opportunities. For example, in the same year
Dracula was published (1897), Millicent Fawcett founded The National Union of Women s Suffrage .

Lucy is not seen to be the ideal Victorian wife, why can t they let a girl marry three men or as many
that want her , due to her low morals and her naivety towards the way a women was expected to act it
allowed Dracula to exploit her. Stoker presents Lucy in a way that would be shocking and
unacceptable for a Victorian reader. Stoker insinuates that Lucy is fatherless because Stoker only
refers to her father once in the book and it is in the past tense, Lucy s father, had the same habit he
would get up in the night and dress himself , even if Lucy s father is alive it is clear that he has had
minimal involvement and impact on Lucy s life. Stoker could be suggesting that Lucy s lack of a
patriarch has meant that she has a desire and craving for one leading her to finding one where ever she
could find it. When Dracula is removing blood from Lucy she is described as half reclining Stokers
use of this word suggests that Dracula is not forcing her or even restraining her, it implies that she is
accepting what is taking place. Stoker goes as far as to imply that Lucy is enjoy the experience, Her
lips were parted... heavy gasps , this is very sexually suggestive of a post climatic moment. It could be
argued that at this moment she is conforming to the hierarchy of society by being submissive due to
her possible positive father complex (created by Sigmund Feud and Carl Jung), so is therefore acting

The Negative Effects Of Juvenile Incarceration
In the past, there have been many concerns surrounding the issue of juvenile incarceration. As per the
history, there have been many cases where the effect of the incarnation of young people has been seen
to have very many negative effects. Research that has been conducted in the past has identified the
fact that incarceration has many negative effects than it was previously thought. Some of them include
the effect it has on the mental health of the inmates as well as the little effect it has in rehabilitating the
inmates (Barnert, Perry, Morris, 2016). All this has led to people being more encouraged to look for
alternatives of helping those involved to reform.
As for the economic reasons, it has over the years been proven that it is very expensive to maintain a
large number of inmates as well as hold them for long. This is a fact that has come down on both the
federal as well as the state governments that are responsible for the maintaining of the well being of
the different correctional facilities. By reducing the number of inmates in these facilities, the
governments can lower the costs incurred in the long term and hence promote the use of the same
funds in reforming the people in other ways.
Alternatives to Incarceration
There are a number of substitutes that can be considered to be alternatives to incarceration in helping
to reform the people involved. The first of this is probation which is a period ordered by the court that
an offender is under the supervision

Maze Runner Research Paper
Maze Runner is about people (specifically males) being put into a maze not knowing how they got
there, trapped until they find a way out, in the maze there are these spider looking robots called
Grievers that try to kill them while they are in the maze. The maze has doors that move around in it, so
it changes up every night, and the runners only have certain times they can go in because there s doors
to enter the maze and it has certain times it open and closes. There s different kinds of jobs they have
to do while living there: like gardening, running, and building. Gardening, to provide food and keep
plants alive, running, to find a way out the maze, they map the maze and figure out different ways to
get out, and building, for shelter. The whole purpose of these males being put in there is to be tested.

The Analysis Of The Foot Bones Of Homo Nadedi
The news is about the analysis of the foot bones of Homo nadedi, whose remains were discovered
within the Dinaledi Chamber of the Rising Star cave system in South Africa. It was introduced to the
public recently and assigned to the genus Homo provisionally. Study indicates that H. naledi was well
adapted for standing and walking on two feet, but was also possibly comfortable climbing trees, which
was described as a messiness of bipedal walking in the title. This news item is based The Foot of
Homo Naledi in Nature Communications, which indicates that H. naledi foot is predominantly human
like in morphology and inferred function.
From my perspective, the news item and the original article are overall both scientific, persuasive and
precisely reasoned.
First, the results of study are derived from plenty of samples. The news item points out that modern
human (Homo sapien) and Homo naledi both are part of the Homo genus. The Homo genus and the
Australopithecus genus are referred to as hominins. In the original article, researchers not only
compare foot of H. naledi with that of H. sapiens, but also gather samples (e.g. G. gorilla, Pan
troglodytes, Au. Africanus, Au. Sediba, Au. Afarensis, Au ramidus, H. floresiensis, Neanderthal etc.)
from several different museums. The abundant samples enable researchers to come up with rational
conclusion through plenty of comparison. The news item mentions that Homo genus also includes

Myocardial Infraction Is The Medical Term For A Heart Attack
Myocardial Infraction A Myocardial Infraction is the medical term for a Heart Attack. A heart attack
happens when oxygen rich blood is not able to get to the heart muscle. If blood to the heart is not
restored quickly enough the section of heart muscle without oxygen rich blood begins to die. The heart
muscle will continue to die for 6 to 8 hours at that point the heart attack is complete. A heart attack
happens because of Coronary Heart Disease . There is no single cause for Coronary Heart Disease but
there are risks factors that will increase your chances of getting it. It is the number one leading cause
of death in the United States. Coronary arteries provide blood to the heart and plaque buildup in the
Coronary arteries is a condition called atherosclerosis. This buildup of plaque happens over a period of
10 15 years. The plaque can rupture and form a blood clot on its surface this blood clot can block the
blood flow and the section fed by the artery will die. This can lead to unstable angina which is severe
and can last as long as 30 minutes. The dead tissue is replaced with scar tissue and can cause
unnoticeable damage. The scar tissue formed does not contract and the heart s pumping ability is
lessened. The pumping ability is decreased because of where the scar tissue is and the size of it.
A heart attack can occur for multiple reasons; angina is one of those reasons. Angina is an illness
where not enough oxygen is getting to the heart, it cans be misdiagnosed

Effects of the Cotton Gin
Effects of the Cotton Gin
!

Eli Whitney invented the Cotton Gin around 1763. At the time he invented the
engine Whitney lived with Catherine Greene, a widowed plantation owner. While staying with
Greene, Whitney learned a lot about the production of cotton. He learned it was a tedious, time
consuming and labor intensive job. Whitney was a graduate of Yale and was talented in the field of
mechanics and inventive engineering. Eli s solution was simple, an engine that separated the cotton
after it was picked. The gin would assist farmers who had a difficulty making a living off of the crop
because of the work that went into harvesting. Some history experts have shared the idea that

South Carolina was the number one producer of cotton in the United States, and they were also the
first to secede. The issue of slavery and the division it caused between the North and the South was a
negative affect of the cotton gin. !
!
In conclusion, the cotton gin successfully increased the production of cotton. The
gin lessened the burden of harvesting the crop, making it more profitable to the farmers.
As the cotton gin evolved, the profits gained by the farmers increased exponentially. The gin had a
positive lucrative effect on the farmers and plantation owners of the South. As production increased,
the demand for labor became significant. The southern farmers now had the money to buy slaves
which then assisted in further increasing cotton production. The Southern economy was booming a
century after the gin was invented.
The North did not appreciate that the southern farmers maintained slavery, which led to significant
political issues. Eventually the southern states sought to secede from the
Union. South Carolina, the leading producer of cotton, led the secession. The cotton gin had a
tremendous affect on the Southern economy. This resulted in an increase of wealth and power
throughout the South which was not well received by the North. The increase production of cotton,
resulting from the cotton gin was a primary factor in the division between the North and the South.

available. What s more, it s more comfortable in a private car than in a bus, because you don t have to

as the above mentioned points are, nevertheless, public transportation also has attractions of its own.
Public transportation is much more environmental friendly compared to private cars, it doesn t

How Does Shakespeare Use Ethos In Julius Caesar
Everyone argues at one point, but the thing we don t realize is that we are using techniques created
hundreds of years ago. The non fiction play The Tragedy Julius Caesar was written by William
Shakespeare, it was initially a play but later turned into a book. In the play, a group of conspirators
create a plan to assassinate the soon to be ruler Julius Caesar. After they murder Julius Caesar, Brutus
and Cassius put together a funeral that the people of Rome attended. At the funeral two good friends
of Caesar, by the names of Brutus and Antony, spoke to the crowd about what will happen to Rome
next. They both use Aristotle s persuasive techniques of ethos, pathos, and logos in their speeches.

Pathos is an appeal that twists people emotions. The first example of pathos is during Caeser s funeral,
Antony states When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept: Ambition should be made of sterner
stuff (cite). This quote exemplifies pathos because the term cried symbolizes negative emotion.
Hearing this brings out saddened feelings of the people in the audience because their new leader was
murdered. In this quote the underlying message Antony is trying to convey is that Caesar is weak
because the poor are crying; however, Caesar is weeping. The words Antony uses makes the crowd
lean towards Antony because he is playing with their emotions. There are many examples of pathos in
Antony s speech, but one he concludes with is Bear with me; My heart is in the coffin there with
Caesar, And I must pause till it come back to me (cite). This quote is an example of pathos because it
is changing the way the people think of Antony. This draws the people towards Antony s side because
he is convincing the people that he will always be by Caesar s side and will forever love him, and the
people also loved him. Overall, through the two quotes, one can see Antony appealing to the audience
s emotions, to manipulate the audience to side with him politely. Antony also uses the mode of
persuasion Logos, which is the appeal to convince an audience through logic. During Antony s speech

Envision the best collegiate football player you know. There s a good chance his fame is attributed to
how aggressive he is, praised for his no mercy attitude. While this mentality suits the field, it can
translate onto college campuses, where many student athletes are recruited to play for the school. A

aggression over others. Societies with higher levels of male dominance, tolerance of violence, and
greater gender segregation tended to fall into this category. Now recall that collegiate football player.

EXPERIMENT NO. 6
DETERMINATION OF THE MOLAR VOLUME OF A GAS
AND THE UNIVERSAL GAS CONSTANT
Salve, Ryan Angelo TAB3, Group 6, Mr. John Kevin Paulo Biadomang Tabor, Frances Hermilyn
March 8, 2013
I. Abstract
This experiment is working with the ideal gas law, which is the summation of Boyle s Law, where
pressure is inversely proportional to volume, Charles Law, where the volume is directly proportional
to temperature and Avogadro s Law, where the volume is directly proportional to moles. In this
experiment, the volume occupied by one mole of H2 was determined. By measuring the volume of H2
gas generated, its molar volume can also be calculated. The universal gas constant can be ... Show

The volume of the gas and the temperature of the water were recorded. The experiment was repeated
twice.
V. Results The results of the experiment were shown below.

VI. Discussion To determine the pressure of H2 in the cylinder, the vapour pressure of the water was
subtracted from the atmospheric pressure. This formula was derived from Dalton s Law of partial
pressure, Ptotal=Pgas+PH2O
The partial pressure of water vapour depends on the temperature of the water bath. To obtain the

Spark

the story of a working man who feels like he s been restricted by society s boundaries. Falling in deep

Summary Of Bella Swan
Bella Swan moves from Phoenix, Arizona to Forks, Washington to live with her father, Charlie. She is
not happy about this move but she knows her mom wants to follow her new husband who is a minor
league baseball player. Fortunately for Bella she is welcomed into Forks High School and makes
friends quite easily. The only weird thing about the school that she notices are the five Cullen siblings:
Edward, Alice, Emmett, Rosalie Hale, and Jasper Hale. They are all adopted by the town doctor,
Carlisle and his wife Esme. The fact that they are all adopted by a young doctor, who looks way too
young to have five eighteen year old kids is not the weird part. What Bella finds out of place about
them is that they are all unbelievably beautiful, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Edward starts showing her attention again and she is slightly hoping he will ask her to go even though

Bella invites him to go along to the beach with her and her pals, but he declines. She is not sure why
until she arrives at the beach and runs into Jacob Black, a Quileute Native American who s dad, Billy
Black, happens to be Bella s dad s best pal. Jacob tells her stories about how the Cullens are
considered the, Cold Ones. Along time ago they came to the tribe and asked for a treaty to be
established, which was granted. Now with all those stories and legends swirling around in her head
she can not stop thinking about Edward and his unusual family.
A few days later Bella goes with two of her pals to Port Angeles for a shopping trip. She hates
shopping so she wanders off to the bookstore down the block in search of more information on
creatures known as the Cold ones. On her way back she is cornered by these men who had had more
than enough to drink, and once again Edward is there to rescue her. They end up having dinner that
night and pretty much grilling each other with a bunch of questions and then when they are done he

Endocrine System Is The Most Important System
Have you ever wondered what endocrine system is or what it does? Ever wondered what it was made
up of or how it helps with functioning our bodies? Well, the endocrine system is really important just
as all the other systems in our bodies are important to us. The endocrine system is made up of multiple
glands in our body that are used for the production and secretion of hormones into the blood stream.
The endocrine system helps us in our growth and controlling the body s metabolic activity for
everyday use. How important do you think the endocrine system is to us? Well just as you can see,
each of us have different opinions so our answers will vary here. But in my opinion, the endocrine
system is the most important system in our body because it balances your moods, controls growth and
developments in our bodies, the tissue functions of our bodies, metabolism, and last but not least, all
of your sexual and reproductive system. That s a lot for a system that doesn t sound like much.
The endocrine system is made up of the multiple glands our bodies which includes the parathyroid and
thyroid glands, the pancreas, pituitary gland, the adrenal glands and ovaries in women meanwhile
testicles in men. When the endocrine s glands create hormones, they get shipped either through the
bloodstream or the lymph. The hormones benefits to our body to act or react to anything that could
threaten our homeostasis. Hormones support throughout the reproduction and birth. They help us sleep

Temporary Work Decisions
Many companies in some situations need to make decisions regarding workforce expansion in order to
cope with a rapid growth or a major new product development. Before taking such decisions,
managers usually try to keep in mind the short and long term costs that might occur in case of failed
product introduction, declining economy, or any subsequent negative event. In those events, costs
mainly arise from the company s needs to lay off a portion of its workforce of permanent employees.
Short term costs may include payment to unemployment benefits, severance benefits, and early
retirement. Social costs could also have an effect on those companies usually in the long term, they
may include reputational damage, which makes it hard for that ... Show more content on

Human Event Reflection
This semester in The Human Event, we read multiple diverse texts and we discussed and worked with
them in ways that I have not experienced in High School. Instead of discussing the texts based on
random details that we find in the text, we discussed what the text meant to the overall story, or better
yet, what the evidence said about the culture of the story and human nature. I learned a great deal
about the diverse meanings of human life, and I learned about various cultures and pieces of their
history. Additionally, we wrote papers based on textual evidence to argue points in a way on a higher
level than I was used to. My argumentative ability evolved from using plot summary into deeply
analyzing parts of the text to prove a point. From developing concrete skills to the cultural content I
was exposed to, I have grown from this semester in The Human Event.
When I started the semester in The Human Event, I had little ability of supporting my position
effectively. When I wrote my first paper in The Human Event, I defaulted to the standard of argument
that was present in high school: I summarized the plot of the text. Even to the foundation of my
roadmap, I attempted to follow a chronological order to Gilgamesh, as I specifically stated that I have
structured this paper to follow the order of the plot . In the rest of my paper, I didn t even follow the
plot effectively. Instead of following the plot, I provided episodes within the plot. For example, I

Core Ethical Standards
Within my own career, I plan to follow certain core ethical values as a mandatory requirement. In my
personal life, I have dealt with a lot of negative people or situations, which have left me with a
positive outcome; I have learned what NOT to do or who NOT to be. People have left me, lied to my
face, cheated, disrespected, been untruthful or dishonest, and have broken promises, etc. Within each
of these situations I took the high route instead of being down in the dumps. And I have heard growing

Comparing Ancient Female Rulers. Tang Empress Wu Zetian and Pharaoh Hatshepsut Tang Empress

Love Medicine Analysis
Domestic violence is present across America, but the role it has taken in the lives of Native American
women is most troubling as it can be harder to track. Tribal sovereignty can at times act as a shield for
violence. The independent nature of tribes as nations can impede systems established to prevent
reoccurring actions of violence within a society. However, as domestic violence is largely a result of
societal systems, it is easiest and most thoroughly examined through narratives. Louise Erdrich
provides this in Love Medicine. The multi faceted perspectives provide an analysis of the lives of
Ojibwe people. As a reoccurring presence of Native American life, domestic violence is displayed

No more are women welcome to be respected shaman, religious leaders: Thus, the primary role of this
education for Indian girls was to inculcate patriarchal norms and desires into Native communities, so
that women would lose their places of leadership in Native communities (Smith, Boarding 90). Marie
demonstrates this when she views her noteworthy accomplishments through the position her husband

toward women are a stronger indicator for domestic violence than alcohol (Mildorf 29). The gender
roles weren t just limited to social power, but were further expressed through physical dominance.
This was translated by the Native American children s experiences at boarding school, where school
leaders showed dominance through physical abuse in addition to the psychological indoctrination.
Sexual, physical, and emotional violence was rampant. Even when teachers were charged with abuse,

The factors that Cirque du Soleil reduced well below the industry s standard are the dependence on the

The factors that Cirque du Soleil raised well above the industry s standard were the emphasis on
creating a new form of entertainment which is expressed through dance, music, and acrobatic skill;
they also focussed on group performances instead of individualistic efforts (Lazenby, 2014). Cirque du

The factors that Cirque du Soleil created that the industry has never offered are the introduction of a

Genocide In Hotel Rwanda
Genocide exists as a fairly common topic of scrutiny and conversation in the world today. But what
constitutes the term genocide? Is it any mass killing of a group? Or can it only apply for certain
circumstances? These questions can be answered by analyzing recorded genocides throughout history
and also by utilizing one s own personal beliefs on what should be considered genocide . In our class,
we were required to read two chapters of Anderson and Anderson s Warning Signs of Genocide and
also discussed the movie Hotel Rwanda. Through these sources of interpretations regarding genocide,
one can develop their own opinion on what they believe to be considered genocide. In this essay, I will
analyze the specific example of Hotel Rwanda as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, as the Andersons write, The term genocide was coined in 1944 by Raphael Lemkin, a Jewish
jurist, to describe Hitler s massacre of the Jewish and Roma people. I believe that is a very fitting
event to base the term genocide, as the Holocaust meets nearly all of the criteria that I believe
constitute the definition of genocide being used. In the holocaust, specific groups were targeted, the
means of carrying out such a horrendous act were put in place and /or acquired, and a mass of people
were persuaded to believe that the actions being taken were appropriate and necessary. Although the
Holocaust is somewhat unique in its meticulous planning and execution, it did not need to be, as the
Nazi party in Germany successfully convinced the population that the Jewish people were to blame for
any and all of the nation s issues. In contrast to Anderson and Anderson, I do not believe that a
national government needs to be the party in charge of a genocide in order for the term to apply.
Instead, I believe that the targeted group must only be incapable of defending itself from such an
atrocity. In the Rwandan example, the national government was not technically responsible for the
killings, and I do not believe that Anderson and Anderson would dispute its classification as genocide.
Therefore, in addition to the need for a seed of hate to be planted in a group of people and lack of need
for painstaking planning, lack of necessity for government sponsorship, need for specific targeting of
any number of groups and need for resources to carry out such abominable acts also exist as criteria
for the use of the term

Was Roosevelt responsible for Pearl Harbour
Was President Franklin D Roosevelt responsible for the attack on Pearl Harbour?
On December 7, 1941 the infamous bombing of Pearl Harbour by the Japanese took place, but who
was really responsible? Many historians lay the blame with President Franklin D Roosevelt (FDR),
citing his approach to the war as antagonistic and inciting a Japanese attack. This report however will
highlight that the Japanese were the real antagonises, deliberately and purposely attacking the United
States (US), United Kingdom and Holland, and Pearl Harbour was but a pawn in their war plan, thus
alleviating FDR of the historical responsibility bequeathed to him over the last 70 years. The key

The notice for an attack would come via an intercepted transmission on December 6 to the Japanese

the American authorities. 13 parts were received and deciphered before midnight on December 6.
Those 13 parts contained a history from Japan s perspective on what had happened in the war thus far

Taking a Look at Educational Psychology
This course has taught me many new things about teaching. I have gained knowledge about topics
such as moral education, expertise, decision making, and classroom management, just to name a few.
Through the reading and portfolio essays, my desire to teach has strengthened throughout the
semester. Because of this course, I now have a better understanding of the educational and
psychological needs my future students, as well as myself, will have and how to meet them. The
portfolio essays that I have completed throughout this course have taught me several things. Each
week, the essay reviewed and allowed me to think more in depth about the content in the chapter. I
was forced to think critically about each topic and even occasionally do further research in order to
write the essay. An example of this, and also one of my favorite portfolio essays, was the essay from
Chapter 7. I chose to write the portfolio essay on the television show Sesame Street. I greatly enjoyed
writing this essay, as it was very interesting to watch an episode of Sesame Street while analyzing it
for educational material. Writing this essay opened my eyes to many educational opportunities outside
of school that I can utilize in my future classroom. The portfolio essay from Chapter 14 allowed me to
ponder the relationship between teacher and student. This is an area in which I have slight concern. I
fear that as a teacher I will be too nice and possibly overstep my boundaries or under estimate my

  • 2. Environmental Concerns And Climate Change Proposed Research Environmental concerns and climate change are influencing and shaping the future of the power industry. As a result, the electricity required to meet the growing demand is mainly generated from renewable energy resources, and this trend is expected to continue in the next decades [1]. Hydro and wind are major renewable energy resources and are free of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. This makes them valuable environmentally sustainable and economic resources for power generation around the world. A hydro wind hybrid power system is an excellent combination for improved reliability, where the resources abound [3]. In Newfoundland and Labrador, there is enormous potential for hydro and wind renewable energy resources, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This condition imposes unique challenges on the planning and operation of a hydro wind integrated power system in a reliable manner [8]. Previous studies on wind penetration issues and solutions found that the limiting factors of wind integration include penetration level, forecasting reliability, geographic diversity, hydro generation flexibility and control of the overall system [6]. Control is a key enabling factor for the deployment of renewable energy systems [9]. Control techniques such as linear and dynamic programming, genetic algorithms, and neural networks, proposed by past research, for the control and economic dispatch of renewable energy systems, have not been acknowledged to be error free [3]. Two major flaws identified in existing techniques include the lack of ease of use, and adaptability to new situations and evolving regulations [3]. These flaws pose major operational challenges to utilities and thus, make control technologies optimization an imperative research endeavor. In 1998, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Policy 1 Generation Control and Performance Standard (CPS) was enforced to ensure effective frequency control in interconnected power systems. In this policy, for example, it is required that each balancing authority shall achieve, as a minimum, CPS1 compliance of 100% (a measure of the correlation between a ... • 3. The American Dream Analyzed in the Great Gatsby Essay The Great Gatsby: The American Dream Their love is founded upon feelings from the past, these give it, notwithstanding Gatsby s insistence on being able to repeat the past, an inviolability. It exists in the world of money and corruption but is not of it. The Great Gatsby, a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is about the American Dream, and the demise of those who attempt to capture its false goals. For Jay, the dream is that, through wealth and power, one can obtain happiness. To get this happiness Jay must reach into the past and relive an old dream and in order to do this he must have wealth and power. Jay Gatsby, the central figure of the story, is a character who longs for the past. He devotes most of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nick attempts to show Gatsby the flaw of his dream, but Gatsby innocently replies to Nick s statement that the past cannot be relived by saying, Can t repeat the past? Why of course you can! This shows the confidence that Gatsby has in reviving his relationship with Daisy. Gatsby s American Dream is not material possessions, although it may seem that way. He only comes into riches so that he can fulfill his true dream, Daisy. Gatsby s personal dream symbolizes the larger American Dream where all have the opportunity to get what they want. Gatsby won t rest until his dream is finally lived. However, it never comes about and he ends up paying the ultimate price for it. The idea of the American Dream has come to be focused on simple, yet somewhat unattainable things such as wealth, love, or fame. There is one thing that never changes about the American Dream; everyone desires something in life, and everyone, somehow, strives to get it. A big house, nice cars, kids, a dog, a beautiful devoted spouse, power and a ridiculous amount of money. That is the classical American Dream, at least for some. The American Dream is tangible perfection while in reality perfection does not exist. Living the American Dream is living in perfection, which is truly impossible. Fitzgerald proves that the wonderful American Dream is unattainable through the novel The Great Gatsby by using vain, yet amusing characters. Fitzgerald s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Argumentative Essay On Stem Cells And Cloning Stem cells and cloning have been around for a long time now. This process of this research has caused controversy and it has a lot of people wondering. The research on the development of stem cells and cloning has benefits scientifically, ethnically, and medically that are outgrowing today s surrounding controversy. Adult and/or Embryonic stem cells are conjoined with animal cells to clone. In the process of cloning, genetic material is transferred between the human and the animal cell. To begin with, stem cells can establish several different cell types in the human body during the times of early life and growth. Stem cells are unspecialized cells that are capable of renewing themselves through the division of a cell. Many tissues have the responsibility of serving as an internal repair system ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the embryos were used for the experiment they were donated for extended research with the permission of the informed donor. In the year of 2006, the researchers made a progress by identifying several conditions that would allow a small amount of specialized adult cells to be developed naturally and to conclude a stem cell state called the Induced Pluripotent of Stem Cells. On the other hand, stem cells are important for living organisms. In a Blastocyst, which is a 3 5 day old embryo, gives improvement and rise to the entire body of an organism. The organism includes several types of specialized cells such as the heart, lungs, skin, sperm, eggs and many other tissues. Stem cells can multiply and when they do, they multiply for months in a laboratory while yielding millions of cells. • 5. Enjambment And Imagery In Langston Hughes s Mother To Son The poem Mother to Son written by Langston Hughes, reflects on the lessons that a Black mother was obligated to teach their child about in the early 19th century. The poem is to be read in the second person perspective, as it employs enjambment, diction, and imagery to put emphasis on the expectations and hardships Black children adapt to in order to ensure their well being as a person of color. Hughes purposefully creates this poem as if his mother created it for him to reveal the unfair conversations and lessons children like the author have to understand if they want to reach their goals; furthermore, Hughes achieves this with his soulful use of diction, enjambment, and imagery within the poem. The author s poem consists of the particular use of diction known as African American Vernacular English, which is a dialect similar to American English. The diction portrayed in the poem symbolizes the profound and empowering words spoken when a mother inspires her child to overcome their battles, more specifically in this poem to never turn [their] back.. [to never] set down on the steps (14 15). In the beginning of Mother to Son, the narrator figuratively describes how life wasn t a crystal stair[case] for them, but in fact, stairs that had had tacks...splinters..boards torn up... places with no carpet...bare (2 7). Repeatedly describing the coarse stairway with adjectives that are associated with ideas of pain or struggle intentionally exposes the reader to the misery Black people had to endure. Additionally, the narrator continues to apply this throughout the poem to elaborate on the fact that this struggle is still endured, and these lessons are still taught. Towards the end of the poem, additional diction of African American Vernacular English continually demonstrates that mother had kept climbing that same stairwell from the beginning: [they ve] been a climbin on/ And reachin landin s/ And turnin corners/ And sometimes goin in the dark/ Where there ain t been no light (9 13). The actions described in this quote build off the adjectives the author employed earlier; however, instead of displaying struggle, these actions encourage motivation and consistency. The flow of words using diction also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Food In Japanese Food Culture For those who don t know, Japan is an island off the coast of China in the Northern Hemisphere of the world. One of the most important parts of Japanese culture is the cuisine. Something that might not be known is that most of the food in Japan today was introduced when Buddhism started to spread throughout the country. Although most of the food the citizens eat is made with ingredients from the island, the country is a very food varied place. There are many different types of cooking in Japan, some of which were adopted from other countries, but they all have a Japanese spin to them. The cuisine is a good reflection of Japanese culture because it reflects the elements of geography, religion, and customs. The use of rice in Japanese food culture is a long standing tradition that is found to be very important to every meal ate on the island. Japan was actually introduced to the world of rice by southern China many years ago (Web Japan). After this original introduction during the Edo period, the rice was cultivated into wet rice paddies that the Japanese would eat (Web Japan). This use of rice stuck around for nearly two thousand years before the Japanese started creating other ways to use the rice they grew. When the rice was introduced the Japanese dedicated a large part of the island to farming rice. The Japanese use so much land for just farming rice because of the large quantity that they eat. In almost every meal that is eaten in Japan, rice is served (Katz 318). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Frankenstein along with the creature, although seemingly different in personalities, have many characteristics that interlock with each other creating a suspenseful plot filled with good intentions that are never fully executed. Dominance is a reoccurring theme in Frankenstein as both Victor Frankenstein, himself, and the creature strive to be perfect in every task they preform. Although that strive for excellence may be a quality that many wish to attain, the intentions of both Frankenstein and the creature are shattered due to their behaviors. While in Paris, Victor receives a letter from Elizabeth saying, [t]ell me, dearest Victor. Answer me, I conjure you, by our mutual happiness, with simple truth Do you not love another? (Shelley 194). Elizabeth is convinced that Frankenstein has found another love that satisfies him more when he is on his journeys although she writes in the most respectful way. Frankenstein is aware that Elizabeth will believe anything that he says and he is able to use that to his advantage knowing that Elizabeth will wait great lengths of time as she already has to marry him. In his response to Elizabeth s letter, he justifies his love to her but also informs her he has one secret, Elizabeth, a dreadful one; when revealed to you, it will chill your frame with horror, and then, far from being surprised at my misery, you will only wonder that I have surprised what I have endured (Shelley 196). Frankenstein is desperate to marry Elizabeth still knowing the consequences of his actions as the creature previously tells him. • 8. Dracula And Gothic Essay The Gothic genre does suppress vulnerable women. They are exploited in order to please the tyrannical male and feed his desires. When the women is no longer of use, she is then discarded. The Gothic genre is described as formulaic and one of the key features is a tyrannical male who abuses his power to assert his dominance over a perceived futile women. Bram Stoker s Dracula was written in time where women started to want more equal rights and opportunities. For example, in the same year Dracula was published (1897), Millicent Fawcett founded The National Union of Women s Suffrage . Lucy is not seen to be the ideal Victorian wife, why can t they let a girl marry three men or as many that want her , due to her low morals and her naivety towards the way a women was expected to act it allowed Dracula to exploit her. Stoker presents Lucy in a way that would be shocking and unacceptable for a Victorian reader. Stoker insinuates that Lucy is fatherless because Stoker only refers to her father once in the book and it is in the past tense, Lucy s father, had the same habit he would get up in the night and dress himself , even if Lucy s father is alive it is clear that he has had minimal involvement and impact on Lucy s life. Stoker could be suggesting that Lucy s lack of a patriarch has meant that she has a desire and craving for one leading her to finding one where ever she could find it. When Dracula is removing blood from Lucy she is described as half reclining Stokers use of this word suggests that Dracula is not forcing her or even restraining her, it implies that she is accepting what is taking place. Stoker goes as far as to imply that Lucy is enjoy the experience, Her lips were parted... heavy gasps , this is very sexually suggestive of a post climatic moment. • 9. The Negative Effects Of Juvenile Incarceration In the past, there have been many concerns surrounding the issue of juvenile incarceration. As per the history, there have been many cases where the effect of the incarnation of young people has been seen to have very many negative effects. Research that has been conducted in the past has identified the fact that incarceration has many negative effects than it was previously thought. Some of them include the effect it has on the mental health of the inmates as well as the little effect it has in rehabilitating the inmates (Barnert, Perry, Morris, 2016). All this has led to people being more encouraged to look for alternatives of helping those involved to reform. As for the economic reasons, it has over the years been proven that it is very expensive to maintain a large number of inmates as well as hold them for long. This is a fact that has come down on both the federal as well as the state governments that are responsible for the maintaining of the well being of the different correctional facilities. By reducing the number of inmates in these facilities, the governments can lower the costs incurred in the long term and hence promote the use of the same funds in reforming the people in other ways. Alternatives to Incarceration There are a number of substitutes that can be considered to be alternatives to incarceration in helping to reform the people involved. The first of this is probation which is a period ordered by the court that an offender is under the supervision ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Analysis Of The Foot Bones Of Homo Nadedi The news is about the analysis of the foot bones of Homo nadedi, whose remains were discovered within the Dinaledi Chamber of the Rising Star cave system in South Africa. Study indicates that H. naledi was well adapted for standing and walking on two feet, but was also possibly comfortable climbing trees, which was described as a messiness of bipedal walking in the title. This news item is based The Foot of Homo Naledi in Nature Communications, which indicates that H. naledi foot is predominantly human like in morphology and inferred function. From my perspective, the news item and the original article are overall both scientific, persuasive and precisely reasoned. First, the results of study are derived from plenty of samples. The news item points out that modern human (Homo sapien) and Homo naledi both are part of the Homo genus. The Homo genus and the Australopithecus genus are referred to as hominins. In the original article, researchers not only compare foot of H. naledi with that of H. sapiens, but also gather samples (e.g. G. gorilla, Pan troglodytes, Au. Africanus, Au. Sediba, Au. Pathos is an appeal that twists people emotions. The first example of pathos is during Caeser s funeral, Antony states When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept: Ambition should be made of sterner stuff (cite). This quote exemplifies pathos because the term cried symbolizes negative emotion. Hearing this brings out saddened feelings of the people in the audience because their new leader was murdered. In this quote the underlying message Antony is trying to convey is that Caesar is weak because the poor are crying; however, Caesar is weeping. The words Antony uses makes the crowd lean towards Antony because he is playing with their emotions. There are many examples of pathos in Antony s speech, but one he concludes with is Bear with me; My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, And I must pause till it come back to me (cite). My argumentative ability evolved from using plot summary into deeply analyzing parts of the text to prove a point. From developing concrete skills to the cultural content I was exposed to, I have grown from this semester in The Human Event. When I started the semester in The Human Event, I had little ability of supporting my position effectively. When I wrote my first paper in The Human Event, I defaulted to the standard of argument that was present in high school: I summarized the plot of the text. Even to the foundation of my roadmap, I attempted to follow a chronological order to Gilgamesh, as I specifically stated that I have structured this paper to follow the order of the plot . In the rest of my paper, I didn t even follow the plot effectively. Instead of following the plot, I provided episodes within the plot. For example, I jumped from writing ... In my personal life, I have dealt with a lot of negative people or situations, which have left me with a positive outcome; I have learned what NOT to do or who NOT to be. People have left me, lied to my face, cheated, disrespected, been untruthful or dishonest, and have broken promises, etc. Within each of these situations I took the high route instead of being down in the dumps. And I have heard growing up from my parents, We can learn more from our failures than from our wins, or we can learn more from a bad boss than a good boss. Tribal sovereignty can at times act as a shield for violence. The independent nature of tribes as nations can impede systems established to prevent reoccurring actions of violence within a society. However, as domestic violence is largely a result of societal systems, it is easiest and most thoroughly examined through narratives. Louise Erdrich provides this in Love Medicine. No more are women welcome to be respected shaman, religious leaders: Thus, the primary role of this education for Indian girls was to inculcate patriarchal norms and desires into Native communities, so that women would lose their places of leadership in Native communities (Smith, Boarding 90). Marie demonstrates this when she views her noteworthy accomplishments through the position her husband has attained (Erdrich 153 154). In an Anglicized society, Marie s accomplishments of raising children is negligible compared to what her husband can achieve. Marie has internalized this status and cannot see the value in anything she has done to be proud of. Gordie was raised by a woman who has lost her sense of accomplishment and might have grown to be blind to the accomplishments of the women around them. The Anglo s historical belief of gender hierarchy is problematic as negative attitudes toward women are a stronger indicator for domestic violence than alcohol (Mildorf 29). The gender roles weren t just limited to social power, but were further expressed through physical dominance. This was translated by the Native American children s experiences at boarding school, where school leaders showed dominance through physical abuse in addition to the psychological indoctrination. Sexual, physical, and emotional violence was rampant. Even when teachers were charged with abuse, boarding schools ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cirque du Soleil also concentrated on conveying a sense of intellectual sophistication (which is priced at a premium) especially appealing to adult audiences (Quartz, 2015). • 34. Genocide In Hotel Rwanda Genocide exists as a fairly common topic of scrutiny and conversation in the world today. But what constitutes the term genocide? Is it any mass killing of a group? Or can it only apply for certain circumstances? These questions can be answered by analyzing recorded genocides throughout history and also by utilizing one s own personal beliefs on what should be considered genocide . In our class, we were required to read two chapters of Anderson and Anderson s Warning Signs of Genocide and also discussed the movie Hotel Rwanda. Through these sources of interpretations regarding genocide, one can develop their own opinion on what they believe to be considered genocide. In this essay, I will analyze the specific example of Hotel Rwanda as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, as the Andersons write, The term genocide was coined in 1944 by Raphael Lemkin, a Jewish jurist, to describe Hitler s massacre of the Jewish and Roma people. I believe that is a very fitting event to base the term genocide, as the Holocaust meets nearly all of the criteria that I believe constitute the definition of genocide being used. In the holocaust, specific groups were targeted, the means of carrying out such a horrendous act were put in place and /or acquired, and a mass of people were persuaded to believe that the actions being taken were appropriate and necessary. Although the Holocaust is somewhat unique in its meticulous planning and execution, it did not need to be, as the Nazi party in Germany successfully convinced the population that the Jewish people were to blame for any and all of the nation s issues. In contrast to Anderson and Anderson, I do not believe that a national government needs to be the party in charge of a genocide in order for the term to apply. Instead, I believe that the targeted group must only be incapable of defending itself from such an atrocity. In the Rwandan example, the national government was not technically responsible for the killings, and I do not believe that Anderson and Anderson would dispute its classification as genocide. Therefore, in addition to the need for a seed of hate to be planted in a group of people and lack of need for painstaking planning, lack of necessity for government sponsorship, need for specific targeting of any number of groups and need for resources to carry out such abominable acts also exist as criteria for the use of the term ... As I bounced again, I felt a spray of water from the river hit my face, a smell of fish in the air. I fell again and bounced higher. On December 7, 1941 the infamous bombing of Pearl Harbour by the Japanese took place, but who was really responsible? Many historians lay the blame with President Franklin D Roosevelt (FDR), citing his approach to the war as antagonistic and inciting a Japanese attack. This report however will highlight that the Japanese were the real antagonises, deliberately and purposely attacking the United States (US), United Kingdom and Holland, and Pearl Harbour was but a pawn in their war plan, thus alleviating FDR of the historical responsibility bequeathed to him over the last 70 years. The notice for an attack would come via an intercepted transmission on December 6 to the Japanese Ambassador detailing a secretive 14 part message due to be transmitted and when advised, given to the American authorities. 13 parts were received and deciphered before midnight on December 6. I have gained knowledge about topics such as moral education, expertise, decision making, and classroom management, just to name a few. Through the reading and portfolio essays, my desire to teach has strengthened throughout the semester. Because of this course, I now have a better understanding of the educational and psychological needs my future students, as well as myself, will have and how to meet them. The portfolio essays that I have completed throughout this course have taught me several things. Each week, the essay reviewed and allowed me to think more in depth about the content in the chapter. I was forced to think critically about each topic and even occasionally do further research in order to write the essay. An example of this, and also one of my favorite portfolio essays, was the essay from Chapter 7. I chose to write the portfolio essay on the television show Sesame Street. I greatly enjoyed writing this essay, as it was very interesting to watch an episode of Sesame Street while analyzing it for educational material. Writing this essay opened my eyes to many educational opportunities outside of school that I can utilize in my future classroom.
