Summary Of A History Of The World In 6 Glasses
Every day we drink beverages without even stopping to think of the influence they have, in A History
of the World in 6 Glasses Tom Standage explores the idea that not only do beverages have an impact
on our diet they have shaped the world we know today. The book takes you through world history
chronologically and relates each time period to a different drink. The 6 drinks or glasses as referred to
in the title are beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. Beer corresponds with the agricultural
revolution in Egypt and Mesopotamia, wine corresponds to the age of enlightenment in Greece and
Rome, etc. While many of us consider learning about history through our diet a little strange, Tom
Standage has another book entitled An Edible History of Humanity which explored a similar concept.
I believe that while the book contains many interesting parallels between beverages and how mankind
has developed, it doesn t continue to hold your attention and in the end feels more like a textbook.

A great example that has already been previously stated was the use of wine in the Roman social
system. In addition I liked the American Revolution story being tied in so closely with spirits. It was
interesting to hear the things textbooks reference put into the frame of beverages, such as taxation
without representation was tied to the American desire for more spirits because of the tax on molasses.
The best example is how wine in Greek culture was shared out of a communal vase. I have already
brought this up before but when you think of a Greek vase what do you think of? I immediately think
of the mostly black vases with the intricate red orange designs on them. This is the type of vase that
wine would ve been mixed in and gave me an interesting perspective on Greek

The Unemployment Problem In The United States
America, the country called home. Known as one of the most powerful and advanced countries in the
world. Is full of many major problems. That could be destroying the economy and the people that live
here. With people resorting to being on the streets selling and doing drugs causes a big problem. Not
only drugs and the economy being a problem, but also people getting things that they don t deserve or
worked for. If America stays on the same path it is right now the future could be heading for the
worse. One of the biggest problems with America today is the economy. With America in trillions of
dollars of debt the last thing we need is people trying to use the government benefits in the wrong
way. With people taking advantage of Unemployment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

disability from working that will keep them out of work for over a year. Those are both ways for
someone to receive disability legitimately. Then you have those people that file for disability because
they have a back problem that they have had their whole life. They have been capable of working all
these years and then decide to file for disability so they can get those benefits while still having a job

What Is Cultural Sensitivity
Cultural Sensitivity
In this era of globalization, people from different countries, cultures, languages and backgrounds are
now communicating, meeting and doing business with one another more than ever before. As people
are starting to move together, it is necessary for them to have cultural sensitivity. Cultural sensitivity is
being aware that both cultural differences and similarities exist between people. These differences and
similarities involve attitudes, behaviors and communication styles. This need for cultural sensitivity
has become even more important in today s society as many countries are starting to expand globally.
This essay will explore three reasons why cultural sensitivity is an important characteristic in today s
globalized education institutes and workplace. It will mainly focus on international commerce, work
etiquette and growing global education.
Firstly, Cultural sensitivity should be applied in every feature in business. It is an important
consideration in advertising and promotion as well as in human resources department. Companies
should take into account the languages, lifestyles and even the spending patterns of the people in the
country that they choose to run their business. They must be very prudent in choosing their brand
names, as it can further help them to build good reputation for the company s ... Show more content on

Critical Analysis on a Tina Modotti Photograph Essay example
Critical Analysis on a Tina Modotti Photograph Tina Modotti was from a very poor working class
society. She was brought up in the northeast part of Italy, in Udine, Friuli. She was born at the tail end
of the industrial revolution, in 1896. However, you could say, by all means, that her village hadn t
changed the slightest since the seventh century. She lived vigorously throughout her childhood,
working endless hours in a silk textile factory to earn a cash flow and to support the family through
starvation. After their father had abandoned them when Tina was twelve and fled to America, the land
of dreams, to repeat, Tina was the family s sole breadwinner, and played an essential role in the ...

Finally, the texture and even the tone had a great deal of contrast in the photograph. Again, there is
evidence of a extremely rough background and very rugged working class hands. The rough puppeteer
hands represent the government, you could say she uses the rough hands to symbolise masculinity,
power and even toughness. Moreover, the other hand is similar, however, there are differences. It
represents the citizens; it is feeble, strangled in wire and being controlled by the other hand, the
government . To conclude, the textures play a key role in the development of the idea of power, as
well as the contrast in lighting. Tina Modotti grew up in an extremely marginalised and poor
environment. The way the government didn t help her family during their rough periods and
suffocating them in to labour would have been one of the several reasons that influenced her. Equally
important, her personal experiences of constant labour and hunger would have made her come to the
conclusion of disliking the government. In my opinion, the way the government had no control over
her dropping out of school and letting her go into child labour would have influenced her to produce
works that comments on marginalisation in society, the depression and the repression of working class

The Benefits Of An Early Asperger s Diagnosis
Unshackled: The Benefits of an Early Asperger s Diagnosis We all have labels. Hundreds of them,
maybe thousands. We are labeled from the day we are born until the day we die. White, black, smart,
dumb, successful, worthless, popular, weird, attractive, ugly, Jewish, Muslim, Aspergian. These are
just a few of the millions and millions of labels we affix to each other every day. Some labels are
subjective. One man s lunatic could be another man s visionary. However, there are many labels that
are permanent and inescapable. A white newborn will be white for their entire life. They cannot do
anything to change their race. They will carry a white label to the grave. An Aspergian newborn will
be Aspergian for their entire life. They cannot do anything to change their neurological makeup. They
will carry an Aspergian label to the grave. It really is not up to us whether or not we will have a
specific label. However, what we can choose is whether we will wear our labels with pride or wear our
labels with shame. There are those of us who choose to pretend our inherent labels don t exist. Living
in denial is not living at all. The sooner one accepts the labels they can t change, the better. If an
individual has Asperger s, pretending it s not there won t make it go away. An early Asperger s
diagnosis is crucial, for it can lead to treatment and acceptance. So is there a cure? I asked. It s not a
disease , he explained. It doesn t need curing. It s just how you

Report On Children s Needs Fundraising Event
Report on Children in Need Fundraising Event in Relation to Stakeholder Management
Executive Summary Children In Need was on Friday 14th of November 2014, on the 20th of
November a team of six students held a fundraising event in order to raise money for this charity. The
event that was put on was a human auction and a raffle, this event was held in the Student Union of
Brighton University on the Eastbourne campus and raised a total of £136.10. This report discusses the
stakeholder management involved with this event by drawing on different theories related to
stakeholders and how these theories were applied to the event. Introduction On the 20th of November

Theoretical Framework As all of the stakeholders involved with this event played a vital role, they all
had an influence in the success or failure. The power/interest matrix (Johnson et al, 2008, p.156) can
be used to determine how much interest a stakeholder has in the event and also the amount of power
they hold. This matrix can then map whether the stakeholder is a key player in your event, whether
they need to be kept satisfied or informed, or if there is minimal effort required with the stakeholder.
By knowing where all of the stakeholders lie on the power/interest matrix the organisers are able to
understand the level of attention that each stakeholder requires, therefore they are able to know how to
manage the different stakeholders.
In regards to the human auction and raffle the six organisers of the event along with the volunteers are
key players, this is because they have a high level of both power and interest with this event. The staff
members of the Student Union, who are another stakeholder, hold high levels of power and low levels
of interest, making them a stakeholder which need to be kept satisfied. This is also the case for the
module leader who approved the running of this event, they needed to be kept

The Senate Bill 149 ( Sb 149 )
The Senate Bill 149 (SB 149) signed by Greg Abbot is about relating to alternative methods for
satisfying certain public high school graduation requirements, including the use of individual
graduation committees. This bill gives students a better chance at graduating, although it may or not
be continued results of this bill will have to be processed first. I chose this bill because I believed that
it would be well known also, because it is important to school life which has taken a big turn in recent
years. Education has taken a decline in funding so I think this law may benefit the sudden drop in
funding or perhaps is something the government hopes to be used as an olive branch due to
withdrawal of funding. My first article details who the law effects, and what requirements for
Individual Graduation committees (IGC). One of the effects of SB 149 is, The law requires school
districts and open enrollment charter schools to have IGCs for any eleventh or twelfth grade student
who has not passed two out of the five end of the course (EOC) exams at or the end of the eleventh
grade s year (Seliger). IGCs need the principal, the teacher of the relevant course; the department chair
or lead teacher supervising the teacher of the relevant course; and either the student s parent/guardian,
or the student if the student is at least 18 years of age or is an emancipated minor (Seliger). This is a
pretty basic requirement that I believe most organizations involving students would have

snarky. The development of character was really nice, although a shame it is the last book. Finally, we
know how floor nineteen ended up being who they are, which is a nice way Riordan tied up loose
ends. Favorite character has to be Sam, she s so strong with her religious beliefs, trying to live her
double life, and let s be honest, Amir is the best boy in the world for Sam. Then there is Alex, one of
our more divers characters. With these being children books, it is truly great Riordan is accepting
more types of characters that kids can relate to. With Hearth being deaf, and yet such a strong

An Epidemic Of Baseball Spectator Injuries
Introduction: There is an epidemic of baseball spectator injuries. With an estimated 1,750 fan injuries
per year, there is serious cause for concern regarding the safety of the citizenry in Gallatin. Because
there are a number of professional, semi professional, and recreational baseball parks, including a
minor league park in Sen. Gallatin s district, it is important to consider enacting legislation to address
this issue. Some states, such as New York, have created the Baseball Rule through judicial precedent,
whereas others, like New Jersey, have statutorily codified the rule. Further, states, such as Idaho, have
altogether not adopted the Baseball Rule entirely. The purpose of public policy should be to maximize
public utility, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority further bolsters its reasoning, noting that many fans prefer seats without netting, and that
the field owners have a legitimate interest leaving certain areas uncovered. New Jersey Baseball
Spectator Safety Act of 2006 sets forth a nearly identical rule, however, the Baseball Rule is codified
legislatively, rather than as a legal precedent as it is in New York. The law s authors state that their
intent is to keep baseball ticket prices affordable by limiting owners liability. The law presumes that
spectators are aware of the risks with attending a baseball game and bars suit of baseball field owners,
unless owners fail to provide sufficient covered seating in the most dangerous sections of the
stands...behind home plate, or fail to post warning signs in non protected areas.
The dissent in Akins decries the majority s decision for explicitly defining the scope of a field owner s
duty to its attendees, a role which it claims belongs to juries. It argues that public sentiment regarding
what constitute[s] reasonable safety measures evolves and should be injected into future cases.
However, the majority ruling prevents this from happening by prescribing specific guidelines that are
certain to become outdated, if it is not already. Further, it criticizes the majority s lack of attention to
the particular facts of a case. In Akins, for example, the

Body Modifications In Millennials
The popular trend of body modifications among millennials, also known as generation Y, is a trend
that was scandalized in the generation of the baby boomers. When referring to body modifications
they refer specifically to tattoos and piercings (Swanger, 2006). Until recently, tattoos were mostly
popular among the perceived deviant, such as hoodlums, gang members, and convicts who were
associated with negative behaviour such as engaging in violent and dangerous activities and
potentially had poor mental health (Timming, 2015). This has changed for the millennials, however, as
many of the individuals who are getting piercings or tattoos are in their late teens or early twenties, as
it is commonly not legal to pierce or tattoo an individual in Canada under the age of sixteen for
piercings and eighteen for tattoos, without parental consent. Though ... Show more content on

Older generations tend to have a negative view on individuals with tattoos and piercings because, until
recently, the only people who had tattoos and piercings were gang members, bikers or convicts
(Swanger, 2006). According to Foltz (2014), some older generations have more negative mind sets of
tattoos than the younger generation, because many people in the older generations feel that people
with ink on their skin or studs on their face were less intelligent and less reliable then someone
without tattoos or piercings. Another survey cited by McElroy, Moore and Summers (2013) found that

Anne Frank Reflection
The Holocaust was a horrific event in human history that took place in the early 1930s through the
mid 1940s. This was when millions of Jews and other people who were thought to be a race and were
sent to concentration camps by those who refer to as evil people. Although many people thought this,
one girl, Anne Frank, who was a Jewish girl in hiding, said this: In spite of everything, I still believe
people are really good at heart. Regarding all of the hate and struggles Anne and her family faced, she
still saw good in everyone and everything that happened. After reading the play based on Anne s real
diary she kept while in hiding, I have to agree with her famous quote. One of the main reasons I agree
with Anne is because of the empathy Mr. Frank showed for her daughter when times were scary. Now,
I do understand that all arguments have two sides and that there are some who don t agree with me,
according to Mr. Van Daan s selfishness and greed.
Now, I m sure some of you are saying that there are more acts of kindness throughout the play, and I
agree with you, but what convinced me to side with Anne and her thought is when her father, Mr.
Frank, attended to her needs after a nightmare she had. On page 64, the following dialogue takes
place:
Mr. Frank: I want you to take this pill.
Anne: What is it?
Mr. Frank: Something to quiet you. ... Do you want me to read to you for a while?
During this scene, the Van Daan s, the Frank s and Mr. Dussel had gone to bed for the night. Everyone
was sleeping peacefully until Anne started screaming from a terrible nightmare. She accidentally woke
everyone else up with her screaming, and her father decided to take care of Anne and let everyone else
go back to sleep. Unlike Mr. Van Daan, Mr. Frank, or Anne s father, showed that he has empathy for
his daughter and would do anything to make sure that she was okay. And by asking if she wanted him
to read to her really showed that he really cared about her. His act not only shows empathy for Anne,
but that he s there for her when she needs him and that he doesn t just care about himself, but about
others. And by doing so, Mr. Frank stayed with her until she fell asleep. He was doing what any father
should do.

International Labor Standards Of Child Work
V. INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE International labour standards characterize child work by its
outcomes; it includes work that is rationally, physically, socially or ethically perilous and destructive
to children, and meddles with their educating. UNICEF characterizes child work as work that
surpasses a base number of hours, contingent upon the age of a child and on the sort of work. The 18th
International Conference of Labor Statisticians held at Geneva held that Child work (slated for
nullification) ought to reflect the engagement of children in undesirable exercises and could fall into
the accompanying classes: (i) Labour that is performed by a child who is below the minimum age
specified for that kind of work and that is thus likely to impede the child s education and full
development. (ii) Labour that jeopardizes the health, safety or morals of a child, either because of its
nature or because of the conditions in which it is carried out (known as hazardous work). (iii) The
worst forms of child labour other than hazardous work which are internationally defined to encompass
children (persons below 18 years of age) in slavery, trafficking, debt bondage and other forms of
forced labour, forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict, their use in prostitution and
pornography, and illicit activities The International Labor Organization has evaluated that in 2004
there were 218 million children caught in child work of whom 126 million where in dangerous work.

Risk Assessment At The United States Army
Risk Assessment Before Risk Assessment can be addressed we must first briefly discuss Risk
Management (RM), the framework of which is where risk assessment resides for the United States
Army. The Army uses RM to ensure mission accomplishment in current as well as future operations
and applies to operations and non operational activities (Department of the Army [ATP 5 19], 2014, p.
1 1). The Army process of RM utilizes five steps as part of its holistic approach to mitigate risks, but
because this paper s focus in on the Risk Assessment of the management solutions identified last
week, it will only focus on the first two steps of RM, Identify the hazard and Assess the hazard.
Hazards exist in all environments, are present in all activities, and a hazard, as it relates to our
assessment of the Special Activities Command (SAC), creates a condition that has the potential for
mission degradation (ATP 5 19, 2014, p. 1 4). After the hazards have are identified, Step two in the
RM processes involves assigning a level of risk to these hazards by estimating probability and severity
of loss linked to risk (DA Pam 385 30, 2014, p. 6). Probability is the likelihood of a hazard scenario
occurring and severity is the approximation of harm given the scenario occurring (DA Pam 385 30,
2014, p. 6). Although probability and severity are both considered in assessing hazards they are
independent of one another or in other words, when estimating probability, it has no direct relationship

The Is A Philosophical Theme Taught By Epicurus
Epicureanism is a philosophical theme taught by Epicurus, this theme that stresses the goal of a joyful
and a pleasurable life. In the Hellenistic Age, epicureanism was extremely influential. Epicurus, the
founder of Epicureanism, is best known for his different personality, unlike all the other ancient
philosophers, excluding Socrates (O Keefe). Epicurus accumulated a group of disciples and taught
them, after that he became known as the philosophy of the Garden. The wisdom theory, epicureanism,
is a form of the hedonism theory that describes different types of pleasure, different types of desires,
the virtues, the importance of friendship, and death. Epicureanism is a philosophical theory that is a
form of hedonism. Epicurus once said, That the only thing that is intrinsically valuable is one s own
pleasure; anything else that has value is valuable merely as a means to securing pleasure for oneself
(O Keefe). This quote from Epicurus shows that pleasure is important to the value of happiness in life.
But how is Epicureanism a type of hedonism? The answer is that, Epicureanism is a form of hedonism
because they both believe that pleasure is what leads to happiness. Since they both believe that
pleasure leads to happiness, the way to know the difference between the two is that hedonists believe
that the people must find a way to increase their own pleasures, whatever they might include and
Epicureanism is the belief that people must control their own pleasures based

Food Safety Is Extremely Severe Worldwide
Food Safety in China
Food safety tends to be a hot topic in Food safety these years. Though the meaning is similar, different
from food security, food safety concentrates more on health aspects rather than sufficiency. So what is
food safety? Food safety is a scientific discipline describing handling, preparation, and storage of food
in ways that prevent foodborne illness. (AmercianPeanutCouncil, 2014) This prevents civils from
severe health hazards and in this way is the food safety similar to the definition of food defense.
I collected data from different websites and summarized them in a chart. Here is the performance of
countries based on their 2015 food safety score. (Charlebois, 2014) Based on this chart, China ranks
42 in the whole world. It s clear that the situation of China s food safety is extremely severe
worldwide. The cause of the food safety problem is intricate; however, before I explain the complex
cause of food safety in China, I d like to illustrate the phenomenon of China s food safety problem
which will definitely promote the comprehensibility of the causes of food safety problems.
People from different fields hold different views upon food safety phenomenon. One of the directors

Why Tobacco Should Be Banned From The United States Essay
Consumption of Tobacco is a worldwide phenomenon. Nearly every country is planning to raise more
restrictions around the consumption of Tobacco. The awareness about its ill effects is rising through
the corridors of Parliaments of many countries with the help of governmental and non governmental
organizations. There are some internationally recognized organizations like the World Lung
Foundations that are striving hard to reduce the consumption of tobacco to a bare minimum. There are
numerous reasons that support the argument that tobacco should be completely banned from the
United Sates.
Tobacco consumption is the number one cause of preventable deaths in the United States. In the
United States, cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year. That is around
one in five deaths annually only because of smoking. On an average, the person who smokes dies ten
years earlier than a non smoker. These statistics are not mere numbers but speak about the gravity of
the situation. The United States government should portray a more negative view on Tabaco to save
the lives of many people worldwide (Centre for Disease and Prevention, second paragraph). America
has a major debt of over twenty trillion dollars and does not need industries like Tabaco costing them
more. There is a huge cost borne by the Federal and State Governments because of the consumption of
tobacco by its citizens. The cost, calculated by the Center for Disease and Prevention, is around

The Adoption Of Cloud Based Accounting Information System
1 Introduction
The aim of this report is to critically analyze the adoption of cloud based accounting information
system (AIS) in business organizations and also its challenges and benefits of cloud based
environment. Cloud accounting (SAASU 20124, para 3) is also called online accounting , which
provides the same service as accounting software and data is securely stored on servers as known as
the cloud. According to Emma Watkins (Demand Media 2014, para 1), cloud accounting is the use of
computer hardware and software applications delivered as a service over the Internet. It allows to store
files and use applications using many different devices and from many different locations in a simple
way . This report will evaluate the cloud ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cloud computing is an on demand service which has achieved great demand in corporate data centers.
The cloud facilitate the data center to work as the Internet and computing resources to be promoted
and shared as virtual resources in a secure and extensible manner (X). Most small business owners
shifted to use the new technological trend by adopt cloud based information system (SMH).
According to Wang et al. (2008, p. 3), A computing cloud is a set of network enabled service,
providing scalable, QoS guaranteed , normally personalized inexpensive computing infrastructure on
demand, which could be accessed in a simple and pervasive way .
2.2 Functional aspects of cloud computing
Conceptually, users acquire computing platforms or IT infrastructures from computing Clouds and
then run their applications inside. Therefore, computing Clouds render users with services to access
hardware, software and data resources, thereafter an integrated computing platform as a service, in a
transparent way:
HaaS: Hardware as a Service
Hardware as a Service was coined possibly in 2006. As a result of drastic improvement in hardware
virtualization, users could buy IT hardware, or even a complete data center, as a pay as you go
subscription service. The HaaS is flexible and manageable to fulfill the demand.

To stimulate life, leaving it then free to develop, to unfold, herein lies the first task of the educator. In
such a delicate task, a great art must suggest the moment, and limit the intervention in order that we
shall arouse no perturbation, cause no deviation, but rather that we shall help the soul which is coming
into the fullness of life, and which shall live from its own forces. This art must accompany the
scientific method.
Dr.Maria Montessori, The Montessori Method

She felt that there is an urgent need for a new education, since the prevailing educational system

system which would help to create a new generation of fulfilled and well balanced adults who would
lead the world towards peace. She called this method of education as New Education. She also shared
her observation of a child in a more intricate way.
There is a hidden man, a hidden child, a buried living being who must be liberated. Here is the urgent

should be exempt from punishment by the American government. But my concern is whether these
leaked information gives terrorists and other enemy countries advantage because they get to know
how to avoid detection by the American government. In this case, Snowden s actions harms the
national security. However, NSA eavesdrop peoples phone calls and Internet can be justifiable under
certain circumstances. For example, the surveillance program can detect the terrorists, in consequence
prevent people from terrorism attack. In order to figure out who is wrong and who is right, I should do

How Did Benjamin Franklin Use Electricity
You use lights every day? Think about it: how would you able to watch tv, charge your phone, take a
hot shower(boiler that runs on electricity), use your computers. We use electricity every day with at
any worries about how it works and if we are safe. We able to do those things without a second
thought because of the Benjamin Franklin invention of a lightning rod that will allow electricity to be
used as power.
Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706, and died on April 17, 1790. He was born in
Massachusetts the Bay Colony is now known as Boston, MA. Benjamin attended Boston Latin School
at age 8. Then George Brownell s school until he was 10. At age 12 he took an interest in the business
of printing, a had an appetite for reading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The history of physics was changed by his discoveries and theories regarding electricity. People
usually used electricity for magic tricks creating and sparks and shock. Instead of him learning how to
do magic tricks, Benjamin was curious about what else he could do with electricity. Benjamin
believed that electricity and lightning were the same because they both created light, made loud noises
when they exploded and were attracted to metal. His hypothesis asserted that power was extremely
one liquid, which could be available in abundance, or leaving from a body, accordingly clarifying its
electrical charge. To prove his theory, he stood on a hill flying a kite with a key tied to it waiting for
the lighting to strike. At the point when the lightning struck the kite, the capable jolt went down the
string and charged the metal key. Franklin then touched the key and got a shock, in this manner
demonstrating the presence of electricity. Benjamin Franklin felt the negative charges in the metal
piece of the key that pulled into the positive charges when he grasped the key and felt a shock. He
knew if a building was tall or high up on a hill, it was bound to get hit by lightning, so he invented a
lightning rod which was made out of metal. The lightning rod would have a low resistance path of
ground for lightning and prevent houses from burning. The lightning rod is an incredible conductor
and enables the current to stream to the ground without causing any

Persuasive Essay On Confirmation Bias
You see what you see, you hear what you hear but do you always believe what you see and hear. Most
people do believe everything they see and hear because they only remember what confirms their own
bias. We as people associate with others or certain medias that support the beliefs we have, and our
memories help us remember information that can be used as proof to make what we believe seem true.
The only problem that stands in the way is if the information we are receiving is true or not. There is
where most of us go wrong we don t fact check we just assume. We assumed pizzagate was true
without even considering it. Almost everyone uses confirmation bias wheather they realize it or not.
Confirmation bias is used to show intelligence and boosts self esteem, it is heavily influenced in the
news outlets and social media, and has a huge effect on society today.
Confirmation bias is something that every person is susceptible to, unless you know that you re doing
it. Confirmation bias is our tendency to seek out information that we already believe to be true. This
affects how you interpret information, how you seek information, and also how you remember things.
When you look at the world around you, it is the conformation bias in your head that is telling you
certain things to pay attention to more than others. Your brain tends to seek out evidence that confirms
your beliefs about something. You often do this because you do not want to be wrong about something
and will do anything

Shooting Dad by Sarah Vowell
Shooting Dad, by Sarah Vowell, is about two completely different groups, with contrasting views, that
can learn to get along with one another. The reader learns through unsubtle clues that Vowell is a
Democrat and her father is a Republican. These collective groups offer completely different
viewpoints on many topics, therefore Vowell has a hard time getting along with her father. Vowell is
not a strong supporter of guns; however her father has magazine subscriptions devoted to gun
ownership, owns many guns, and belongs to an association for gun enthusiasts. Each group had their
own areas devoted toward their favorite candidates and used the kitchen and living room for neutral
zones. Vowell and her father both share the trait of a messy work area, but in their own way. Her father
s work area, in the shop, consisted of a museum of death, that displayed antler from deer that he had
previously shot and metal shavings from ammunition covering the surface of the floor. Vowell spent
her free time in the music room, which had musical instruments and staff paper covering her available
surfaces. Vowell decided her opinion on all firearms when she was six years old. After shooting it
once, she knew that guns were not made for her use. She disliked the gun so much that she whispered
to it the gun as if it were a possession of Satan as soon as it went off. Years later her father completed

The Benefits Of Time Travel
Although time travel has long been since considered as fable, there have been studies and theories that
appeared supporting the time travel. Einstein s theory of relativity supports time travel and with this
scientists have come up with theories of time travel. Other theories and many experiments have been
conducted to try and prove the possibility of time travel for humans. Einstein s theory of relativity
determined that the speed of light within a vacuum is constant no matter the speed at which the
observer is traveling and with this found out that space and time were intertwined together in a
continuum identified as space time. In the theory of special relativity, time is said to move slower or
faster depending on the observer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Travelling to the future is said to be easy. Einstein s theory of special relativity shows that for people
who are moving relative to one another time passes at different rates, although the effect is only
considerable when you travel near the speed of light. Let us say that you travelled in space at about
99.5% of the speed of light. The year you have spent is space would be lesser than the time that passed
on Earth until you get back home. Many years have gone by on Earth while you have only spent a few
years in space. Travelling to the speed of light cannot be yet achieved as of today s technology. There
would be a great need for an unimaginable amount of energy to travel near the speed of light. But time
travel to the future has already happened. Cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev travelled through time and holds
the longest amount of time spent in space with 803 days. He orbited around the Earth travelling at
around 7.66 km/s. Because of the high speed travel and length of time he spent in space; he arrived
back in Earth 0.02 seconds in the future which is also due to time dilation. Although, he only travelled
seconds in the future and not like the 5 years or more in the future he was still able to arrive earlier
without travelling in the speed of light. Time travel can also occur in gravitational fields as stated in
the theory of general relativity. Einstein predicted that time passed more slowly for objects in
gravitational

What Is The Theme In Psalm 23
The heart is the greatest weapon any warrior holds because when it is connected to God it makes one
undefeatable. David, who had a heart for God, would create some of the most beautiful symbolic
themes in his psalms by combining his faith and love of the Lord with everyday settings that he was
familiar with during his time. The symbolic theme of Psalm 23 identifies David as both a shepherd
and sheep by creating a peaceful mood through the tranquil settings.
Theme
Although this psalm is often recited at funerals or solemn occasions, the original theme that David
established in Psalm 23 is faith and assurance in the Lord. This is determined by the very first line of
this poem David allows the reader to see himself as a servant of the Lord and not the great King of
Israel, The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing (Psalm 23:1 NIV). As David continues Psalm 23 , he
starts building on the assurance of putting his full trust into God. The use of the words made and lead
explains that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His metaphorical use of saying that the Lord is a shepherd, while considering himself a sheep is very
ironic because he is combining his past life experience with the theme and settings of this psalm.
David describes the detailed work a shepherd must do to provide security and disciple his flock by
saying the Lord s rod and staff comfort me (Psalm 23:4 NIV). As a shepherd David understood the
importance of finding his lost sheep, because without the protection of their shepherd they would have
to face the world alone. David carefully reflects this into the mood of Psalm 23 , so the reader can gain
an understanding of how God will not let His sheep stray too far. David allows the reader to gain a
true sense of feeling protected and guided because he states that God s hands will guide them

uneducated, peasant sharecrop farmers. This fact is important because Doroteo had a high level of
intelligence even though he did not have any formal education. After his father s death, Doroteo took
his father s place as a sharecropper and helped support his mother and four sisters. There are many
versions of how Doroteo became the outlaw bandit Pancho Villa. The most widely accepted story is

Pancho Villa redistributed the wealth gained from his illegal activities. He often took the money from
the rich and gave it to the poor. These deeds led him to be known as a modern day Mexican Robin

economy in Chihuahua, Mexico and surrounding areas. It is not clear if Pancho Villa purposely killed
the landowners or if they were causalities of war. In any event, Pancho gave land to the widows and
children of his fallen soldiers (Williams 12). Villa also built schools for orphans, distributed food, and
improved the water supply. He continued to be favored by the citizens of Mexico as his actions were
vital to the regions continued growth and betterment. Pancho Villa greatest historical contribution was

Following the Baroque era was the Classical Era. Classical music often times represented complex
emotional feelings in the music. The classical era brought forth a few new styles of music
composition. One is known as symphony. Symphonies are normally multi movement works(10)
containing four movements therefore resulting in dramatically longer pieces than the preceding era.
Symphony orchestras contained the string instruments. To the strings were added wind instruments,
usually the oboe and bassoon and fairly frequently the flute. The clarinet was introduced and gradually
became a regular member of the orchestra. However, the brass section(11) was not yet introduced. The
only brass instrument that was normally included was the French horn. Trumpets, along with the
timpani or kettle drums, were used only for reinforcing volume or rhythm. Another form that
developed from this era was sonata form(12) which was structured through binary form(13). The
classical suite(14) also was derived from this era. Variety of melodies, rhythms and dynamics using
crescendo, diminuendo and sforzando(15) were more commonplace in the Classical period than they
had been in the Baroque.

Their films were consequently banned from Egypt as a result of their lack of understanding and
awareness for cultural norms. The text cites actions, behaviors, and misperceptions that resulted in the
dismissal.
In addition to culture, Chapter 1 briefly touches on communication as an aspect of culture. Ineffective
and improper forms of communication are detailed and several examples are discussed on how not to
properly communicate in different countries.
Communication is essential to success. This area of the text explores the issues that arise when
similarly sounding phrases, tone of voice, and content are lost in translation.
This portion of the chapter utilized an example of former President Carter s improperly translated
speech in Poland. While not his intent, the translator conveyed President Carter s lust for polish
women. This example, one of many, illustrates blunders that can occur in translation.
CHAPTER 2
Chapter 2 focuses upon the issues that companies face with the production, location, layout, and
packaging of products. It is hard to imagine that a company would not do the due diligence to ensure
that its facility was located properly. Unfortunately, the text illustrates that improper planning does
occur with international companies. Several examples were illustrated within this chapter.

a group and its members, or between individuals. All members within a society are assumed to agree
to the terms of the social contract by their choice to stay within the society without violating the
contract; such violation would signify a problematic attempt to return to the state of nature. It has been
often noted, indeed, that social contract theories relied on a specific anthropological conception of
man as either good or evil . Thomas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jean Jacques Rousseau Du Contrat social (1762) Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712 1778), in his influential
1762 treatise The Social Contract, Or Principles of Political Right, outlined a different version of
contract theory, based on the conception of popular sovereignty, defined as indivisible and inalienable
this last trait explaining Rousseau s aversion for representative democracy and his advocacy of direct
democracy. Rousseau s theory has many similarities with the individualist Lockean liberal tradition,
but also departs from it on many significant points. For example, his theory of popular sovereignty
includes a conception of a general will , which is more than the simple sum of individual wills: it is
thus collectivist or holistic, rather than individualist. As an individual, Rousseau argues, the subject
can be egoist and decide that his personal interest should override the collective interest. However, as
part of a collective body, the individual subject puts aside his egoism to create a general will , which is
popular sovereignty itself. Popular sovereignty thus decides only what is good for society as a whole:
The heart of the idea of the social contract may be stated simply: Each of us places his person and
authority under the supreme direction of the general will, and the group receives each individual as an
indivisible part of the whole... Hence, Rousseau s famous sentence: We shall force them

Counseling Supervision Case Study
Counseling supervision, the ethical and legal issues, and the multiple relationships that result is a
dynamic topic that presents numerous complex issues. The important functions of the supervisory
relationship are to teach counseling through a hands on process, assess, inform, implement, and
evaluate the application of theories, ethical and competent practices to prepare the supervisee for their
future profession in the counseling field. However, while supervisors play multiple roles in the
supervision process, there are situations and times when the boundaries between therapy and
supervision are not always clear. During the supervisory relationship it is vital and of the upmost
importance that the supervisor model s ethical behavior and implements the ethical standards of the
counseling profession. In the literature on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, the location also plays an important role in whether the supervisee feels comfortable
confronting the supervisor regarding concerns and having open dialogue. In this particular case, once

company.
However, while in the case there is no information regarding how the supervisee feels, but the
supervisee could feel obligated to stay there and speak with their supervisor due to their professional
relationship. Granted, it may be possible that the supervisee feels no obligation to stay and relax, one
of the core issues with multiple role relationships in the training and supervisory process is the
potential for abuse of power (Corey, Corey, Corey, Callanan, 2015). Which leads to the second
possible ethical issues of not maintaining clear boundaries between the multiple roles of the

Roman Civilization Dbq
The greek and roman civilizations were very influential to our modern day civilization, for example
our government, sporting events, and medicine first became widely spread in their culture. In
document 6, the text explains the branches of government during ancient rome. Their government had
a significant influence in our government today. For example it split up the power between the
branches and we use similar branches today such as the judicial branch. The Romans created a system
of government which influenced many other cultures. America even developed it own form of this
government. Though it is not exactly the same there are many similarities. For instance the Roman
republic separated the power of the branches. This is so no one branch

Ban Zhao Lessons For Women
Although Ban Zhao was a woman, she was behind a sexist piece of literature meant for instruction
towards women. It isn t too hard to see this at face value, but there is more going on here than just that
in Lessons for Women . Ban Zhao was a woman who embraced the sexism and strict gender roles in
ancient China who also wrote for and taught women how to be like her in this way, her style and
perspective were certainly telling of this, and so was her word choice, intentions, and audience.
Ban Zhao, was an unofficial imperial historian to Emperor Ho. She taught history, writings,
mathematics, and astronomy to Empress Teng and other women. She wrote this piece, Lessons for
Women , which was meant to instruct women how to behave and in many ways who to be. She was
even concerned about her own daughters in these sorts of ways. This impacts the meaning of the piece
in that it shows how deep the expected roles of people were drilled into the heads of people across the
world. Even a mother such as herself thought that these roles were correct and ideal. It makes the
modern interpretation even more shocking because you can see that people who aren t viewed as equal
don t even always realize it. She was writing for the empire of China, and for the Emperors and
Empresses, and for her daughters. The situation was at a time when women were not necessarily
viewed as equals to men. We can see how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cannery Row Themes
John Steinbeck returns to the Monterey area of California for Cannery Row, a story of a few men
living in California in the aftermath of the Great Depression, specifically in an abandoned warehouse.
Steinbeck wrote this book at the behest of a WWII soldier who desired to forget the horrors of the war
he just endured. Cannery Row mixes multiple themes and tones together in order to bring together a
captivating narrative which has endured over time.
Cannery Row takes place in the cannery district of Monterey, California, following the story of Mack
and his friends as the rent a converted shack from Lee Chong, a local grocer. Mack soon meets Doc,
the owner of a local biological warehouse, a man who always has a negative vibe about him yet is ...

People who are described as whores, pimps, gamblers, and sons of bitches (1) often band together to
fight against problems, such as the influenza epidemic. Business owners who are shown throughout
the novel that money is a priority such as Lee Chong and Dora deal as often in good will as they do
with cash, helping the boys out along their journey. At the heart of this community rests Doc, someone
that everyone is in some way indebted to along with being overall a good person and becoming the
soul of the community, as when he is wronged the whole town goes into a negative state. Related to
this is finding happiness without material wealth, specifically with analyzing the story of Mack and
the boys. If you throw out side plots and various other things from the story, it s a few poor guys
trying to collect up enough booze and pocket money to throw a party. These men don t value the
concept of wealth in material earnings as much as they measure wealth in the sense of good will and
the experiences on has in life. The boys described as not mercantile men. They did not measure their
joys in goods sold, their egos in bank balances, nor their loves in what they cost (108) Steinbecks

Life On A Kiibbutz In Amos Oz s Between Friends
Life on a kibbutz is supposed to be like living in utopia; a great sense of community and a symbol of
fairness and justice in a world so full of cruelty. In Amos Oz s collection of short stories, Between
Friends, it is revealed that life on a kibbutz is not quite the Garden of Eden it was originally created to
be. In a string of melancholy short stories, Oz explores darker sides of the kibbutz that aren t often
discussed, including loneliness and the possibility of its occurrence without being alone, as well as the
theme of cruelty. The grim shadow of loneliness that is casted over the kibbutz is present in every
story and by doing so, Oz informs the reader that life is not as it seems on the kibbutz. In the story

Oded doesn t fit in with the other children of the kibbutz and is described as slow, and the kids in the
kibbutz are tormenting him constantly. In addition to this, Oded gets an extreme case of tough love
from his mother, Leah, and is only shown affection through his father, Roni. When looking through
the stamp collection that Roni and Oded share, Oded heartbreakingly asks his father if there are
countries where children are allowed to sleep with their parents at night and where children aren t
mean and don t hit. This is establishes that Oded certainly does feel the loneliness and torment from
being alienated in ironically a place that no one is supposed to be. Moreover it presents the idea that
Oded is not happy on the kibbutz and dreams of leaving for a better place. Oded s understanding of
the suffering lurking on the kibbutz is seen again when he thinks of the country that he sees on a
stamp called, Hazarmaveth, the Courtyard of Death, a title that frightens the young boy. Oded believes
that this Courtyard of Death lies in the courtyard of the children s house, the place of Oded s anguish.
This allows the reader to discern that Oded perceives places on the kibbutz as a place of utter
unhappiness and that he does feel like he needs to escape the

Essay on There is More to Vikings than Violence
History typically describes the Vikings as the fiercest, most brutal of all the barbarian groups that
invaded Europe. Historians agree that the Vikings were fierce, but was there more to them than that.
The word Viking has been used to identify people who lived in Sweden, Norway and Denmark in
early medieval times. In the language Old Norse, Viking means pirate. Sometimes they were known as
Northmen or Danes. The Vikings shared a similar heritage as the Saxons, a group of people who had
previously invaded Britain.
The Vikings sailed to other foreign countries because they weren t able to do many profitable things in
their own homes. The soil was infertile, and the land was rocky and covered in ice and snow for most
of the year. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Odin was the ?All father? of all the gods and was extremely wise. He exchanged one of his eyes for
wisdom. Other gods and goddesses included Loki (the trickster god), Freyja (goddess of love and
beauty) and Frey (god of fertility and Freyja?s brother).
England, Scotland and Wales were Christian countries, and when the Vikings resettled there, many of
them converted to Christianity. However, some remained faithful to their old religion at the same time.
This shows that the Vikings weren?t just killing machines that spent all their time murdering people
and raiding villages. They didn?t just think of war all the time and they actually spent time
worshipping gods like we still do today.
In addition, we can see that their culture was important, even down to the clothes they wore. Like
most people during that time, the Vikings mostly used wool to make their clothes. They had to dress
warmly because their home was very cold. They dyed the cloth with mineral and vegetable dyes of
red, green, yellow, brown and blue.
Viking men would wear a long woollen shirt and long cloth pants held up by a drawstring or sash. On
top of this was worn a sleeved jerkin or a three quarter coat with a belt. On their feet they would wear
socks and soft leather shoes or long leather boots. In battle, the Vikings would wear an iron helmet and
chain mail to protect themselves.
A Viking woman would wear a long linen dress. It could be either plain or pleated. Over the dress a

Human Law Vs. Divine Law
Human Law vs. Divine Law
Morality is principles that determines the distinction between right and wrong action, or good and bad
behavior. There is also a link that being moral should be determined by either human law or divine
law. The play Antigone , by Sophocles, shows the complexity of this certain concept of morality.
Antigone must determine whether she should defy King Creon s law in order to bury her brother,
Polynices, or reject her own religious beliefs in order to maintain in the King s good graces. At the
same time, King Creon also has to determine what is right and wrong; he must decide if he should
imprison and give the death sentence to Antigone for defying the law, or let her go free because of
divine law. The issues shown in Antigone further exemplify the complexity of which law is right and
if Antigone s and Creon s actions were justifiable. Should there solely be one person to create law? Or
should there be a consideration for people that prefer divine law? According to Katrin Beushausen,
Antigone was first staged around 442 BCE. It was a time of peace for Athens. Unfortunately, conflict
with Sparta would again break out ten years later in the Peloponnesian War. It is important to realize
that, at this point, democracy was not only an ambitious political system under which the life of the
Athenian citizens was organized according to the idea of equality, but also represented an ideological
instrument of power in Athens s pursuit of hegemony

  • 2. Summary Of A History Of The World In 6 Glasses Every day we drink beverages without even stopping to think of the influence they have, in A History of the World in 6 Glasses Tom Standage explores the idea that not only do beverages have an impact on our diet they have shaped the world we know today. The book takes you through world history chronologically and relates each time period to a different drink. The 6 drinks or glasses as referred to in the title are beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. Beer corresponds with the agricultural revolution in Egypt and Mesopotamia, wine corresponds to the age of enlightenment in Greece and Rome, etc. While many of us consider learning about history through our diet a little strange, Tom Standage has another book entitled An Edible History of Humanity which explored a similar concept. I believe that while the book contains many interesting parallels between beverages and how mankind has developed, it doesn t continue to hold your attention and in the end feels more like a textbook. When man first walked the earth they were hunter gatherers, another words they moved around from place to place to search for more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A great example that has already been previously stated was the use of wine in the Roman social system. In addition I liked the American Revolution story being tied in so closely with spirits. It was interesting to hear the things textbooks reference put into the frame of beverages, such as taxation without representation was tied to the American desire for more spirits because of the tax on molasses. The best example is how wine in Greek culture was shared out of a communal vase. I have already brought this up before but when you think of a Greek vase what do you think of? I immediately think of the mostly black vases with the intricate red orange designs on them. This is the type of vase that wine would ve been mixed in and gave me an interesting perspective on Greek ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That could be destroying the economy and the people that live here. With people resorting to being on the streets selling and doing drugs causes a big problem. Not only drugs and the economy being a problem, but also people getting things that they don t deserve or worked for. If America stays on the same path it is right now the future could be heading for the worse. One of the biggest problems with America today is the economy. Those are both ways for someone to receive disability legitimately. Then you have those people that file for disability because they have a back problem that they have had their whole life. They have been capable of working all these years and then decide to file for disability so they can get those benefits while still having a job on the side. What Is Cultural Sensitivity Cultural Sensitivity In this era of globalization, people from different countries, cultures, languages and backgrounds are now communicating, meeting and doing business with one another more than ever before. As people are starting to move together, it is necessary for them to have cultural sensitivity. Cultural sensitivity is being aware that both cultural differences and similarities exist between people. These differences and similarities involve attitudes, behaviors and communication styles. This need for cultural sensitivity has become even more important in today s society as many countries are starting to expand globally. This essay will explore three reasons why cultural sensitivity is an important characteristic in today s globalized education institutes and workplace. It will mainly focus on international commerce, work etiquette and growing global education. Firstly, Cultural sensitivity should be applied in every feature in business. It is an important consideration in advertising and promotion as well as in human resources department. Companies should take into account the languages, lifestyles and even the spending patterns of the people in the country that they choose to run their business. They must be very prudent in choosing their brand names, as it can further help them to build good reputation for the company s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Critical Analysis on a Tina Modotti Photograph Essay example Critical Analysis on a Tina Modotti Photograph Tina Modotti was from a very poor working class society. She was brought up in the northeast part of Italy, in Udine, Friuli. She was born at the tail end of the industrial revolution, in 1896. However, you could say, by all means, that her village hadn t changed the slightest since the seventh century. She lived vigorously throughout her childhood, working endless hours in a silk textile factory to earn a cash flow and to support the family through starvation. After their father had abandoned them when Tina was twelve and fled to America, the land of dreams, to repeat, Tina was the family s sole breadwinner, and played an essential role in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, the texture and even the tone had a great deal of contrast in the photograph. Again, there is evidence of a extremely rough background and very rugged working class hands. The rough puppeteer hands represent the government, you could say she uses the rough hands to symbolise masculinity, power and even toughness. Moreover, the other hand is similar, however, there are differences. It represents the citizens; it is feeble, strangled in wire and being controlled by the other hand, the government . To conclude, the textures play a key role in the development of the idea of power, as well as the contrast in lighting. Tina Modotti grew up in an extremely marginalised and poor environment. The way the government didn t help her family during their rough periods and suffocating them in to labour would have been one of the several reasons that influenced her. Equally important, her personal experiences of constant labour and hunger would have made her come to the conclusion of disliking the government. In my opinion, the way the government had no control over her dropping out of school and letting her go into child labour would have influenced her to produce works that comments on marginalisation in society, the depression and the repression of working class ... • 8. The Benefits Of An Early Asperger s Diagnosis Unshackled: The Benefits of an Early Asperger s Diagnosis We all have labels. Hundreds of them, maybe thousands. We are labeled from the day we are born until the day we die. White, black, smart, dumb, successful, worthless, popular, weird, attractive, ugly, Jewish, Muslim, Aspergian. These are just a few of the millions and millions of labels we affix to each other every day. Some labels are subjective. One man s lunatic could be another man s visionary. However, there are many labels that are permanent and inescapable. A white newborn will be white for their entire life. They cannot do anything to change their race. They will carry a white label to the grave. An Aspergian newborn will be Aspergian for their entire life. They cannot do anything to change their neurological makeup. They will carry an Aspergian label to the grave. It really is not up to us whether or not we will have a specific label. However, what we can choose is whether we will wear our labels with pride or wear our labels with shame. There are those of us who choose to pretend our inherent labels don t exist. Living in denial is not living at all. The sooner one accepts the labels they can t change, the better. If an individual has Asperger s, pretending it s not there won t make it go away. An early Asperger s diagnosis is crucial, for it can lead to treatment and acceptance. So is there a cure? I asked. It s not a disease , he explained. It doesn t need curing. It s just how you ... The event that was put on was a human auction and a raffle, this event was held in the Student Union of Brighton University on the Eastbourne campus and raised a total of £136.10. Theoretical Framework As all of the stakeholders involved with this event played a vital role, they all had an influence in the success or failure. The power/interest matrix (Johnson et al, 2008, p.156) can be used to determine how much interest a stakeholder has in the event and also the amount of power they hold. This matrix can then map whether the stakeholder is a key player in your event, whether they need to be kept satisfied or informed, or if there is minimal effort required with the stakeholder. By knowing where all of the stakeholders lie on the power/interest matrix the organisers are able to understand the level of attention that each stakeholder requires, therefore they are able to know how to manage the different stakeholders. In regards to the human auction and raffle the six organisers of the event along with the volunteers are key players, this is because they have a high level of both power and interest with this event. The staff members of the Student Union, who are another stakeholder, hold high levels of power and low levels of interest, making them a stakeholder which need to be kept satisfied. This is also the case for the module leader who approved the running of this event, they needed to be kept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Senate Bill 149 ( Sb 149 ) The Senate Bill 149 (SB 149) signed by Greg Abbot is about relating to alternative methods for satisfying certain public high school graduation requirements, including the use of individual graduation committees. This bill gives students a better chance at graduating, although it may or not be continued results of this bill will have to be processed first. I chose this bill because I believed that it would be well known also, because it is important to school life which has taken a big turn in recent years. Education has taken a decline in funding so I think this law may benefit the sudden drop in funding or perhaps is something the government hopes to be used as an olive branch due to withdrawal of funding. My first article details who the law effects, and what requirements for Individual Graduation committees (IGC). One of the effects of SB 149 is, The law requires school districts and open enrollment charter schools to have IGCs for any eleventh or twelfth grade student who has not passed two out of the five end of the course (EOC) exams at or the end of the eleventh grade s year (Seliger). IGCs need the principal, the teacher of the relevant course; the department chair or lead teacher supervising the teacher of the relevant course; and either the student s parent/guardian, or the student if the student is at least 18 years of age or is an emancipated minor (Seliger). Finally, we know how floor nineteen ended up being who they are, which is a nice way Riordan tied up loose ends. Favorite character has to be Sam, she s so strong with her religious beliefs, trying to live her double life, and let s be honest, Amir is the best boy in the world for Sam. • 12. An Epidemic Of Baseball Spectator Injuries Introduction: There is an epidemic of baseball spectator injuries. With an estimated 1,750 fan injuries per year, there is serious cause for concern regarding the safety of the citizenry in Gallatin. Because there are a number of professional, semi professional, and recreational baseball parks, including a minor league park in Sen. Gallatin s district, it is important to consider enacting legislation to address this issue. Some states, such as New York, have created the Baseball Rule through judicial precedent, whereas others, like New Jersey, have statutorily codified the rule. Further, states, such as Idaho, have altogether not adopted the Baseball Rule entirely. The purpose of public policy should be to maximize public utility, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The majority further bolsters its reasoning, noting that many fans prefer seats without netting, and that the field owners have a legitimate interest leaving certain areas uncovered. New Jersey Baseball Spectator Safety Act of 2006 sets forth a nearly identical rule, however, the Baseball Rule is codified legislatively, rather than as a legal precedent as it is in New York. The law s authors state that their intent is to keep baseball ticket prices affordable by limiting owners liability. The law presumes that spectators are aware of the risks with attending a baseball game and bars suit of baseball field owners, unless owners fail to provide sufficient covered seating in the most dangerous sections of the stands...behind home plate, or fail to post warning signs in non protected areas. The dissent in Akins decries the majority s decision for explicitly defining the scope of a field owner s duty to its attendees, a role which it claims belongs to juries. It argues that public sentiment regarding what constitute[s] reasonable safety measures evolves and should be injected into future cases. However, the majority ruling prevents this from happening by prescribing specific guidelines that are certain to become outdated, if it is not already. Further, it criticizes the majority s lack of attention to the particular facts of a case. In Akins, for example, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When referring to body modifications they refer specifically to tattoos and piercings (Swanger, 2006). Until recently, tattoos were mostly popular among the perceived deviant, such as hoodlums, gang members, and convicts who were associated with negative behaviour such as engaging in violent and dangerous activities and potentially had poor mental health (Timming, 2015). • 14. Anne Frank Reflection The Holocaust was a horrific event in human history that took place in the early 1930s through the mid 1940s. This was when millions of Jews and other people who were thought to be a race and were sent to concentration camps by those who refer to as evil people. Although many people thought this, one girl, Anne Frank, who was a Jewish girl in hiding, said this: In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart. Regarding all of the hate and struggles Anne and her family faced, she still saw good in everyone and everything that happened. After reading the play based on Anne s real diary she kept while in hiding, I have to agree with her famous quote. One of the main reasons I agree with Anne is because of the empathy Mr. Frank showed for her daughter when times were scary. Now, I do understand that all arguments have two sides and that there are some who don t agree with me, according to Mr. Van Daan s selfishness and greed. Now, I m sure some of you are saying that there are more acts of kindness throughout the play, and I agree with you, but what convinced me to side with Anne and her thought is when her father, Mr. Frank, attended to her needs after a nightmare she had. On page 64, the following dialogue takes place: Mr. Frank: I want you to take this pill. Anne: What is it? Mr. Frank: Something to quiet you. ... Do you want me to read to you for a while? During this scene, the Van Daan s, the Frank s and Mr. Dussel had gone to bed for the night. Everyone was sleeping peacefully until Anne started screaming from a terrible nightmare. She accidentally woke everyone else up with her screaming, and her father decided to take care of Anne and let everyone else go back to sleep. Unlike Mr. Van Daan, Mr. Frank, or Anne s father, showed that he has empathy for his daughter and would do anything to make sure that she was okay. And by asking if she wanted him to read to her really showed that he really cared about her. His act not only shows empathy for Anne, but that he s there for her when she needs him and that he doesn t just care about himself, but about others. And by doing so, Mr. Frank stayed with her until she fell asleep. He was doing what any father should do. Now, just because I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE International labour standards characterize child work by its outcomes; it includes work that is rationally, physically, socially or ethically perilous and destructive to children, and meddles with their educating. UNICEF characterizes child work as work that surpasses a base number of hours, contingent upon the age of a child and on the sort of work. The 18th International Conference of Labor Statisticians held at Geneva held that Child work (slated for nullification) ought to reflect the engagement of children in undesirable exercises and could fall into the accompanying classes: (i) Labour that is performed by a child who is below the minimum age specified for that kind of work and that is thus likely to impede the child s education and full development. (ii) Labour that jeopardizes the health, safety or morals of a child, either because of its nature or because of the conditions in which it is carried out (known as hazardous work). (iii) The worst forms of child labour other than hazardous work which are internationally defined to encompass children (persons below 18 years of age) in slavery, trafficking, debt bondage and other forms of forced labour, forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict, their use in prostitution and pornography, and illicit activities The International Labor Organization has evaluated that in 2004 there were 218 million children caught in child work of whom 126 million where in dangerous work. • 18. Risk Assessment At The United States Army Risk Assessment Before Risk Assessment can be addressed we must first briefly discuss Risk Management (RM), the framework of which is where risk assessment resides for the United States Army. The Army uses RM to ensure mission accomplishment in current as well as future operations and applies to operations and non operational activities (Department of the Army [ATP 5 19], 2014, p. 1 1). The Army process of RM utilizes five steps as part of its holistic approach to mitigate risks, but because this paper s focus in on the Risk Assessment of the management solutions identified last week, it will only focus on the first two steps of RM, Identify the hazard and Assess the hazard. Hazards exist in all environments, are present in all activities, and a hazard, as it relates to our assessment of the Special Activities Command (SAC), creates a condition that has the potential for mission degradation (ATP 5 19, 2014, p. 1 4). After the hazards have are identified, Step two in the RM processes involves assigning a level of risk to these hazards by estimating probability and severity of loss linked to risk (DA Pam 385 30, 2014, p. 6). Probability is the likelihood of a hazard scenario occurring and severity is the approximation of harm given the scenario occurring (DA Pam 385 30, 2014, p. 6). Although probability and severity are both considered in assessing hazards they are independent of one another or in other words, when estimating probability, it has no direct relationship to ... In the Hellenistic Age, epicureanism was extremely influential. Epicurus, the founder of Epicureanism, is best known for his different personality, unlike all the other ancient philosophers, excluding Socrates (O Keefe). Epicurus accumulated a group of disciples and taught them, after that he became known as the philosophy of the Garden. The wisdom theory, epicureanism, is a form of the hedonism theory that describes different types of pleasure, different types of desires, the virtues, the importance of friendship, and death. Epicureanism is a philosophical theory that is a form of hedonism. Epicurus once said, That the only thing that is intrinsically valuable is one s own pleasure; anything else that has value is valuable merely as a means to securing pleasure for oneself (O Keefe). This quote from Epicurus shows that pleasure is important to the value of happiness in life. But how is Epicureanism a type of hedonism? The answer is that, Epicureanism is a form of hedonism because they both believe that pleasure is what leads to happiness. Since they both believe that pleasure leads to happiness, the way to know the difference between the two is that hedonists believe that the people must find a way to increase their own pleasures, whatever they might include and Epicureanism is the belief that people must control their own pleasures based ... • 21. Why Tobacco Should Be Banned From The United States Essay Consumption of Tobacco is a worldwide phenomenon. Nearly every country is planning to raise more restrictions around the consumption of Tobacco. The awareness about its ill effects is rising through the corridors of Parliaments of many countries with the help of governmental and non governmental organizations. There are some internationally recognized organizations like the World Lung Foundations that are striving hard to reduce the consumption of tobacco to a bare minimum. There are numerous reasons that support the argument that tobacco should be completely banned from the United Sates. Tobacco consumption is the number one cause of preventable deaths in the United States. In the United States, cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year. That is around one in five deaths annually only because of smoking. On an average, the person who smokes dies ten years earlier than a non smoker. These statistics are not mere numbers but speak about the gravity of the situation. The United States government should portray a more negative view on Tabaco to save the lives of many people worldwide (Centre for Disease and Prevention, second paragraph). America has a major debt of over twenty trillion dollars and does not need industries like Tabaco costing them more. The history of physics was changed by his discoveries and theories regarding electricity. People usually used electricity for magic tricks creating and sparks and shock. Instead of him learning how to do magic tricks, Benjamin was curious about what else he could do with electricity. His hypothesis asserted that power was extremely one liquid, which could be available in abundance, or leaving from a body, accordingly clarifying its electrical charge. To prove his theory, he stood on a hill flying a kite with a key tied to it waiting for the lighting to strike. At the point when the lightning struck the kite, the capable jolt went down the string and charged the metal key. Franklin then touched the key and got a shock, in this manner demonstrating the presence of electricity. Benjamin Franklin felt the negative charges in the metal piece of the key that pulled into the positive charges when he grasped the key and felt a shock. He knew if a building was tall or high up on a hill, it was bound to get hit by lightning, so he invented a lightning rod which was made out of metal. Let us say that you travelled in space at about 99.5% of the speed of light. The year you have spent is space would be lesser than the time that passed on Earth until you get back home. Many years have gone by on Earth while you have only spent a few years in space. Travelling to the speed of light cannot be yet achieved as of today s technology. There would be a great need for an unimaginable amount of energy to travel near the speed of light. But time travel to the future has already happened. Characteristics from the Baroque period, Classical period, and Romantic period have had their share of impact on today s society. In order to fully develop an overall understanding of how defining each of these eras are, one must expose themselves to the vastly varying eras music, and other art forms including paintings. First in chronological order of these three eras, is the Baroque Era. The Baroque Era began roughly around the year 1600 and ended during the late 18th century. After the concert I headed downstairs for some muffins and brownies with my buddies except they were all gone by the time I got there! Following the Baroque era was the Classical Era. Classical music often times represented complex emotional feelings in the music. The classical era brought forth a few new styles of music composition. One is known as symphony. Symphonies are normally multi movement works(10) containing four movements therefore resulting in dramatically longer pieces than the preceding era. Symphony orchestras contained the string instruments. To the strings were added wind instruments, usually the oboe and bassoon and fairly frequently the flute. The clarinet was introduced and gradually became a regular member of the orchestra. However, the brass section(11) was not yet introduced. The only brass instrument that was normally included was the French horn. Trumpets, along with the timpani or kettle drums, were used only for reinforcing volume or rhythm. Another form that developed from this era was sonata form(12) which was structured through binary form(13). The classical suite(14) also was derived from this era. Variety of melodies, rhythms and dynamics using crescendo, diminuendo and sforzando(15) were more commonplace in the Classical period than they had been in the Baroque. This area of the text explores the issues that arise when similarly sounding phrases, tone of voice, and content are lost in translation. This portion of the chapter utilized an example of former President Carter s improperly translated speech in Poland. While not his intent, the translator conveyed President Carter s lust for polish women. This example, one of many, illustrates blunders that can occur in translation. An Essay on Social Contract Theory SOCIAL CONTRACT THEORY Social contract theory (or contractarianism) is a concept used in philosophy, political science and sociology to denote an implicit agreement within a state regarding the rights and responsibilities of the state and its citizens, or more generally a similar concord between a group and its members, or between individuals. All members within a society are assumed to agree to the terms of the social contract by their choice to stay within the society without violating the contract; such violation would signify a problematic attempt to return to the state of nature. It has been often noted, indeed, that social contract theories relied on a specific anthropological conception of man as either good or evil . Thomas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jean Jacques Rousseau Du Contrat social (1762) Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712 1778), in his influential 1762 treatise The Social Contract, Or Principles of Political Right, outlined a different version of contract theory, based on the conception of popular sovereignty, defined as indivisible and inalienable this last trait explaining Rousseau s aversion for representative democracy and his advocacy of direct democracy. Rousseau s theory has many similarities with the individualist Lockean liberal tradition, but also departs from it on many significant points. For example, his theory of popular sovereignty includes a conception of a general will , which is more than the simple sum of individual wills: it is thus collectivist or holistic, rather than individualist. As an individual, Rousseau argues, the subject can be egoist and decide that his personal interest should override the collective interest. However, as part of a collective body, the individual subject puts aside his egoism to create a general will , which is popular sovereignty itself. Popular sovereignty thus decides only what is good for society as a whole: The heart of the idea of the social contract may be stated simply: Each of us places his person and authority under the supreme direction of the general will, and the group receives each individual as an indivisible part of the whole... Hence, Rousseau s famous sentence: We shall force them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Historians agree that the Vikings were fierce, but was there more to them than that. The word Viking has been used to identify people who lived in Sweden, Norway and Denmark in early medieval times. In the language Old Norse, Viking means pirate. Sometimes they were known as Northmen or Danes. The Vikings shared a similar heritage as the Saxons, a group of people who had previously invaded Britain. • 52. Human Law Vs. Divine Law Human Law vs. Divine Law Morality is principles that determines the distinction between right and wrong action, or good and bad behavior. There is also a link that being moral should be determined by either human law or divine law. The play Antigone , by Sophocles, shows the complexity of this certain concept of morality. Antigone must determine whether she should defy King Creon s law in order to bury her brother, Polynices, or reject her own religious beliefs in order to maintain in the King s good graces. At the same time, King Creon also has to determine what is right and wrong; he must decide if he should imprison and give the death sentence to Antigone for defying the law, or let her go free because of divine law. The issues shown in Antigone further exemplify the complexity of which law is right and if Antigone s and Creon s actions were justifiable. Should there solely be one person to create law? Or should there be a consideration for people that prefer divine law? According to Katrin Beushausen, Antigone was first staged around 442 BCE. It was a time of peace for Athens. Unfortunately, conflict with Sparta would again break out ten years later in the Peloponnesian War. It is important to realize that, at this point, democracy was not only an ambitious political system under which the life of the Athenian citizens was organized according to the idea of equality, but also represented an ideological instrument of power in Athens s pursuit of hegemony ...
