Homosexuality In Ancient Greek Sexuality
Many recent movies such as Troy, 300, and Alexander address many different topics like race, gender,
ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation in diverse ways. However, the major varying topics of the
three movies is the portrayal of sexuality, which must be clarified. Homosexual contact between males
was common in ancient Greek culture. However, because of the contemporary public distress
regarding homosexuality, movies tend to keep it out of its content. It is important to understand the
similarities between each movie and the historical realities of ancient Greek sexuality. Even more so,
the significance of how modern day attitudes and beliefs have influenced the choices made on screen
regarding sexual orientation.
To begin, since the movie Troy used Homer s Iliad as its main source, the relationships in the movie
Troy were strictly heterosexual. For example, the main relationship in the movie was between Achilles
and his war prize Briseis. In the movie they fall in love and over exemplify the emotional connection
between the man and woman. In ancient Greek myth, the treatment of Briseis is much more severe.
Also, ancient Greek sources reveal that Achilles and Patroclus sometimes were represented as lovers,
although that relationship was moderated and practically absent from both Troy and Homer s Iliad.
Because many of the conservative views in America, homosexual behavior is talked about seldom. It
is safe to say that the movie tries to reflect Hollywood s discomfort

The Cabanatuan Prisoner Of War Rescue Mission
Running Estimate for the Cabanatuan Prisoner of War Rescue Mission The prisoners of the
Cabanatuan Prison are in grave danger as the US 6th Army is advancing and the Japanese are in full
retrograde; it is with this in mind that we are planning this raid. The prison camp is behind enemy
lines, approximately 30 miles from Guimba, and currently flooded with the withdrawing Japanese
forces. The camp is being used as a transit point as they retreat to the north and east. Daylight hours
are when you find the largest troop concentrations; the current TTP is for Japanese forces to move
during the night. Additionally, a projected force of about 800 Japanese with tanks and heavy weapons
are templated at Cabu. The Terrain leading up to the Camp has vegetation and easily traversable roads;
we have the support of the local population to help us in the recovery efforts. As the US rangers
approach the camp, the last mile will be treacherous because all vegetation has been cleared and the
forecasted moon and light data is not favorable. Once we start to evacuate the US Prisoners we will be
faced with soldiers who have been on reduced rations for the last few years, medical estimates suggest
that we can expect 7 10% (35/500) of the prisoners to be non ambulatory. The remainder will be
debilitated from malnutrition and disease, making their movement slow at best. Friendly forces will
consist of 120 Army Rangers, two teams from the Alamo Scouts, the Alamo Scouts bring the area

The Pigeon Power House Essay
Before I begin to describe the film, I would like to emphasize that I will tell Sean´s story formally in a
poetic realist style. Hallucinatory, sleepwalking sequences alternate with harsh reality in a desolated
environment for the sake of telling slices of true life: Emotions, diversity and the unforeseen.
Now the film.
It´s grey and dull. The Pigeon Power House in Dublin is not far away and one could smell the industry
and the sea.
12yo Sean visits drifter Johnny who is living in a tent at Ringsend beach. In daydreams Sean wears a
balaclava mask and fights adventurous battles with his hero Johnny. He admires Johnny and invites
the community´s young vagabond to his home.

Digital Technology And Social Media Essay
More recently than in years past, digital technology and social media have grown to become a part of
our everyday lives. The recent rise in those who own smartphones allows this everyday use of digital
technology and social networking to be easier than ever before. At any time and any place, we have
the ability to socialize with nearly anyone even celebrities who have no idea most of us even exist.
The continuous consumption of digital media has altered once personal face to face communication to
just that, digital. More and more people seem to be living in what Sonia Maasik and Jack Solomon
call The Cloud . The Cloud is a seemingly alternate universe of which communication is altered from
personal to digital. This universe has led to debates over whether or not these online communities are
real or whether social media is actually social. Various digital media sources also encourage users to
create individual identities, of which may or may not actually be real. It seems as though our reliance
on digital technology and social media have allowed the determination of certain aspects of our lives.
Although social media allows us to connect with nearly anyone at any time, Americans have taken
advantage of its use, and their attention has been drawn away from real life interactions to digital ones.
The ramifications of such influences reflect the hidden insecurities of Americans and, ironically,
emphasize our inclination to boast about ourselves by allowing others to see the

An Internet Address For Example Essay
An Internet address (for example, http://sju.com/men/), usually consisting of the access protocol
(HTTP), the domain name(sju.com), and optionally the path to a file or resource residing on the server
where the domain name resides (nest). A common way to get to a Web site is to enter the URL of its
home page file in your Web browser s address line. However, any file within that Web site can also be
specified with a URL. Such a file might be any Web (HTML) page other than the home page, an
image file, or a program such as a common gateway interface application or Java applet. The URL
contains the name of the protocol to be used to access the file resource, a domain name that identifies
a specific computer on the Internet, and a pathname, a hierarchical description that specifies the
location of a file on that computer.
Importance of URLs for analysts: URLs are fundamental to the internet. And, while websites are
having their digital dominance chipped away by social media and mobile apps, URLs remain a core
component of the Language of Digital. The information generated by the cookie about your use of our
website including the IP address will be transmitted to and stored on servers. Analysts will use this
information for the purpose of evaluating your use of our website, compiling reports on website
activity and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage.

Culture and History of Prague
Prague is the only city to remain intact in Europe today that didn t get destroyed in world war ll. It was
one of Hitler s favorite cities as well as mine, because of it s rich, culture and history. Prague, the
capital of the Czech Republic has breath taking sites to see, majestic, mountainous geography and a
booming economy, that pull people from all over! Prague s old world charm makes it an admirable
place to live. The geography of Prague has affected much of it s development. Prague is the largest
city in Czech Republic and is landlocked. Fertile soil, resources, water streams, and rivers, such as the
Viata played a big role in the development. Bohemia in West consists of rolling plains, hills and
plateaus surrounded by low mountain. Moravia in the east consists of hilly country. The location of
Prague creates extreme weather patterns and wildly varying seasons, from mild to cold. In the summer
it can ranging from 20 degrees C to 30 degrees C. The average low and nighttime temperatures are
quite pleasant. However, this season brings the most rainfall and thunderstorms. In the early fall you
may see temperature highs of about 22 degrees celsius. Later, such as November temperatures may
reach a low of 4 degrees C. It is a great season to visit Prague, but a little rainfall may be bothersome.
In the winter snow is common and at night temperatures can be freezing. During the day temperatures
usually do not reach below freezing. Spring is the best season to visit Prague.

Religious and Belief Systems in Australia
Religious and Belief Systems in Australia
Q1. Outline the changing patterns of religious adherence in Australia from 1945 to the present.
There has been a lot of change in religious adherence since the end of the Second World War. At the
end of the war many Australians still had British ancestors and so most people were Christian. With
immigrants arriving in Australia after the war we started to see new religions grow. Orthodox
Christians came from places like Greece, for example. The Catholics have continued to grow in
numbers while some other Christian faiths have decreased in size. One reason why the Catholic
Church is growing is because of the arrival of immigrants from places like Africa and the Philippines.
With the arrival of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There used to be a time when most people stuck with the religion that their parents followed. These
days more people are choosing denominational switching. This means that many people are no longer
making life long commitments to one church in particular. They are more likely to go wherever they
feel comfortable and look for a church that suits their needs.New age religions were among the fastest
growing faiths in the 2001 census, increasing by 140 percent in the five years since 1996. New age
religions differ from other faiths in that, while together they form an overall spiritual movement, they
nonetheless lack any singles unifying creed or doctrine. Adherents do tend to share some similar
beliefs and practices, which are often grafted onto other, more formalised religious beliefs.
Another reason for denominational switching is that some parents separate or get divorced. Surveys
have shown that children from families that have broken up are more likely to stop following the
family religion. A study of people in Catholic and Protestant churches found the following pattern: If a
family was broken up because of divorce, Catholics were 1.7 times more likely to switch to a
moderate protestant church and 2.6 times more likely to switch to a conservative protestant church.
For many years there has been a number of Australians who describe themselves as having no religion
on the census. In the 2011 census, (http://www.abs.gov.au )22.3% of the

Nutritionism Defined By Michael Pollan Rhetorical Analysis
Presenting and writing about information that people do not understand or have interest in can be
particularly challenging. As a writer, your goal is to push the reader to grasp the material that you are
writing about while also making sure the reader is enjoying reading and learning about whatever you
are writing about. However, achieving this balance in writing is not as easy as it may seem. When
writing about a topic that people may not be well versed in, it is natural to include an abundance of
facts in their work relating to and explaining the topic. In doing so, you may unintentionally bore or
confuse the reader if he/she does not have an interest in what they are reading. Fortunately, there are
strategies in which you can accomplish the aforementioned goal of making sure that the reader is
learning from and enjoying your writing. In Michael Pollan s essay, Nutritionism Defined , there are
instances in which he does a great job of presenting information that may not be very interesting to
read about and there are also instances in which he could have done a better job of capturing the
interest of those reading his essay.
One strategy an author can use in order to help the reader understand and understand the sides in the
reading is the incorporation of ethos pathos and logos. However, in this essay, only two of the three
will be used as there are clear examples of both pathos and logos. These two methods can help the
reader comprehend what is being thrown

12 Minor Prophets Of The Old Testament
One of the 12 minor prophets of the Old Testament, Haggai, played an essential role in the rebuilding
of the temple of the Lord. Although we are not given the specific details about when it is written or
who wrote the book of Haggai, it is often assumed that Haggai himself wrote it. Scholars also presume
that it was written around 520 B.C. due to the specifics of the time period given in the book itself. It is
a rather short book, only consisting of two chapters, and exact dates are given as to when the Lord
spoke to Haggai regarding the rebuilding of the temple. For example, Haggai opens up by saying that
the Lord first spoke to Haggai on the first day of the sixth month of the rule of Darius. The messages
from the Lord to Haggai were directed to the governor, Zerubbabel, the high priest, Joshua,a and
sometimes to all the people of Judah. These messages usually focus on the apathy of the people to
rebuild the temple of the Lord.
The people of God during The Book of Haggai are avoiding rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. The
first temple was built by Solomon, the son of David. David initially wanted to build the temple, but
God gave the task to Solomon. The Babylonians led by Nebuchadnezzar marched into Jerusalem and
destroyed this first temple of God. The temple was to be rebuilt, but it was being avoided largely
during the time of Haggai. Consequently, God spoke to Haggai and had him relay messages to his
people. God started by asking the people how they live in their

Nitric Oxide On Oxygen Levels
Nitric Oxide on Hypoxia Levels in Metabolism and Vasoactivity Regulation This review paper is
based on research and learned techniques through this semester (Fall 2015), conducted under Dr.
Kenneth Kambis in the Adair Hall Facility. Although final approval was authorized in December, there
were previous volunteers that were informed under another approval given. In the research project
titled: Individual Variability Upon Acute Exposure to a Normobaric Hypoxic Environment Simulating
a Physiologic Altitude Equivalent to 3,500 Meters it covered and explores hypoxia levels in various
ethnic backgrounds at rigorous activity. The concept of metabolism and vasoactivity in certain species
systems is highly regulated under laboratory conditions with proper materials, methods, and
equipment. Measuring ranging levels of oxygen whether in humans, sheep, rats or mice is essential to
understand chemical regulation in the organism s system. This may be done in vivo or in vitro. In the
laboratory, a normobaric hypoxia chamber is utilized to decrease the oxygen content of the chamber
atmosphere to a percentage that closely reflects the partial pressure of oxygen in a given hypobaric
environment without reducing the atmospheric pressure (Kambis, 2015). Thus the regulation of
oxygen in partial pressures is similar to those found in hypobaric atmospheres of up to extreme
altitude. Innovation In human research the demographics to consider in a study are age, gender,

April 26, 2017 5 Cognate Strategies in Writing
In Chapter 4 we were able to discuss the Rhetorical elements and Cognate strategies that help us as
writers be more effective and efficient. The Cognate strategies were developed by Charles Kostelnick
and David Roberts. The word cognate refers to knowledge, and these strategies are techniques to
impart knowledge to your audience which are effective both in oral and written communication.
The first cognate strategy is Clarity. Many times when we are going to write we have the ideas in our
mind of what we want to share and express to our reader, however the problem is that many times we
do not write it clear enough for the reader to understand what we wanted to say. The words we use, the
structure and the presentation all form how clear we are writing to our ... Show more content on

As a good writer we will naturally develop a relationship with our reader, and the need to make trust
an element is key to that development. The word credibility comes from the word credence, or belief.
Credibility involves your qualities, capabilities, or power to elicit from the audience belief in your
character. Developing a sense of our character and credibility may involve displaying our real us and
our sense of humor, our ability to make our reader laugh or cry, the ability to share our experiences
and get the reader s trust or all the ability to share personal insight into the topic we are discussing. All
of these helps developing character and trust. In my school we develop credibility by doing what we
promise, for example if a parent asks for a letter, we make sure that the letter is completed for when
we said it will be ready. This helps the parents trust us as a school

Wanda, her services and her gift of music to the ministry, and would like Wanda to lead a small group

This might please Wanda that she has not been pushed out of the church bluntly but has still retain her
place in the church where the church founding members really appreciate her. IN addition, Wanda
would work in collaboration with another/new music director who would direct music with Wanda. To
make the music more innovative, there would be duets where some songs would still have Wanda s

Ralph Waldo Emerson And The Transcendentalism Movement
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Author Ralph Waldo Emerson, who is considered one of the Great American authors, wrote during the
transcendentalism period. Particularly, his work titled Self Reliance written in 1841 we can see the
evidence of the characteristics, themes and style identified with the transcendentalism movement
which was an extant in American letters between 1820 s and 1830 s. As a representative of such a
movement, Ralph Waldo Emerson then remains one of the most identifiable and iconic writers of his
time.
Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American essayist, lecturer and poet who led the transcendentalist
movement of the mid 19th century. He was born in May 25, 1803, in Boston, Massachusetts, a son of

For example, A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and
philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. Here Emerson
expresses that greater minds are not bothered at the thought of thinking differently and following their
own beliefs ant any giving time. He motivates his readers to be non consistent, and to not blinded and
foolished by the words of others who are viewed as superior. Another example would be: Trust
thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron sting. Accept the place the divine providence has found for
you; the society of your contemporaries, the connection of events. In this phrase Emerson states that
we should always follow our instincts first, because our heart beats to the truth and only we know the
truth. He motivates us to never doubt in ourselves, and never doubt in what we re doing or where we
re at, because God put us in that place or situation for a reason. If you analyze it, accept it, and you
push further you will realize that what you re doing and where you re at is where exactly you need to
be.
In this way, we can clearly see why Ralph Waldo Emerson is considered the Father of
Transcendentalism and one of the greatest writers during the transcendentalist

The Impact Of The Age Of Enlightenment In Western Europe
The Age of Enlightenment saw many great changes in Western Europe. It was an age of reason and
philosophes. During this age, changes the likes of which had not been seen since ancient times took
place. Such change affected evert pore of Western European society. Many might argue that the
Enlightenment really did not bring any real change, however, there exists and overwhelming amount
of facts which prove, without question, that the spirit of the Enlightenment was one of change
specifically change which went against the previous teachings of the Catholic Church. Such change is
apparent in the ideas, questions, and philosophies of the time, in the study of science, and throughout
the monarchial system. Previously, the Catholic Church had professed to the entire medieval world
that faith in God was absolute. Indeed, the medieval world was truly an age of faith. As such, ideas
that went against the teachings of God were ignored and their preachers subsequently murdered. After
the Crusades brought back old Aristotelian learning from the middle east, all this changed. Advances
in Geography were made with the introduction of Ptolemaic Geography. More importantly than the
rediscovery of ancient geography was the beginning of skepticism in Western Europe. No longer
would the Church s word be taken on faith. The idea that the physical world could be understood
through the use of empiricism analytical thought was also introduced. René Descartes even began to
doubt his own existence

Symbolism In Under The Persimmon Tree
(AGG) Many authors use symbolism to show the development of a character, like the author of Under
The Persimmon Tree does. (BS 1) In the beginning of the novel, Najmah changes from a childlike girl
to an adult like woman and the author uses the bukri, or baby goat, to symbolize this change. (BS 2)
When Mada Jan and Habib die Shaheed is born while Golestan Najmah dies, and the author uses
Najmah s first haircut to give a deeper meaning to this change. (BS 3) After Najmah meets Nusrat, she
develops into another version of herself and the author uses another haircut to add another level
behind this literal change. (TS) The author uses symbolism to show Najmah s development throughout
the novel.
(MIP 1) Najmah goes from an innocent child in the family to an adult in the family and the author

I Love You But Then I D Have To Kill You
I d Tell You I Love You But Then I d Have to Kill You is the first book in the Gallagher Girls series.
The series is about Cameron Morgan, a teenage girl who goes to a private school called the Gallagher
Academy for Exceptional Young Women. From the outside, it looks like an ordinary all girls private
boarding school. Except that it s not. Because it actually teaches its students to become a spy. You can
expect unconventional subjects in their curriculum such as Covert Operations, Protection and
Enforcement, and other interesting subjects. In the first book, Cameron or Cammie was in the middle
of an outside class activity in the Roseville town carnival when a boy named Josh singled her out. It

Cammie couldn t tell the truth about her identity to Josh (at least the one which Josh is allowed to

dragged out. Probably because I enjoy the narration and the dialogue between the characters. The
narration might seem childish, with all the exclamation point and capital letters to MAKE A POINT!!
But it didn t annoy me. It s fun. Another thing that I like about this book is how the girls are not
damsel in distress. They are smart and tough. Though sometimes they have to hide the fact that they
are trained spies (depending on your clearance), still, reading about amazing tough girls is always a
plus. They also know their priorities, which is quite a rare case in YA books. Sure, there are times
when she doubt it. But not to the point where she makes dumb decision, at least in my opinion, and I
totally support that. All in all, I m surprised at how much I like this book. If you re looking for a fun
and fast paced YA book, I totally recommend this book. As for the rest of the series, I m looking

Descriptive Essay On The Border
If I had to give the word luck a meaning, I would start by stating that being born to my Mexican
parents and being raised in the international border between Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and its sister
city of El Paso, Texas where two cultures clash and become one, has made me an incredibly lucky
person. Being able to move freely between both countries has given me the ability to observe and
understand the environment from two different perspectives.
In a time of globalization, and taking out of the equation old and recent political events that don t
respond to progress, the traditional idea of a border seems long lost. Throughout my life, I have been
exposed to the realities that make a border a complex setting. On average 22,000 people cross the
Juarez El Paso border daily; 1,000 of them being students seeking a better education; others are part of
the workforce that impulses the economy of both cities working either in any of the 350 maquiladoras
in the area or other jobs. On the other hand, some people enjoy crossing the border to visit family or to
spend a day in one of the many shopping centers in the El Paso area as well as in other entertainment
events. The border offers a strong sense of culture and traditions on both sides which serves its people
and visitors. This international relationship is critical to the lives of many people, yet especially
Mexican Americans, like me.
I grew up in Cd. Juarez, in a house and an engraving business that my father inherited from his father,
a man who landed in Juarez seeking opportunities that he later turned into a business. Given the fact
that my father, just like my grandfather, didn t have formal higher education, and still was able to run a
successful business, has taught me the value of hard work and dedication. I also learned the basic
concepts of team work, through my mother who would help my father with the business. The
combination of these qualities allowed me and my siblings to grow up in a healthy environment until
it all changed about a decade ago during the dark times of the border.
The drug war exploded and Cd. Juarez had become famous as one of the most dangerous cities. The
streets were filled with violence and a numerous amount of people were

Better Life Analysis
Within Isaac Julien Playtime exhibition that is presented by Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture
with the Kramlich Collection and San Francisco Art Institute, there is a film called Better Life (Ten
Thousand Waves). This film is located in the Gray Box Gallery, within the San Francisco Art Institute.
Based on Isaac Julian s essay entitled The Multilayered Storytelling in Film Installation , Better Life
conveys Julian s style of incorporating different artistic discipline to create a unique poetic and visual
language that is within the art context . By repeating 1000 waves the form of calligraphy and poetry, it
conveys loss and separation ; The movement of Mazu and the lover convey the Chinese perspective of
the tragedy. conveys the theme of migration that the Chinese cockle pickers did in search for a better
life. The experience conveyed focus and darkness in the meaning of the work . With the repetition of
10000 waves in the form of a poetry and calligraphy, it conveys the loss and death of the tragedy . To
pay homage to the inspiration for the film, Isaac Julian incorporated sections of the poem of the same
name in the film by having a narrator recite particular sections. While the female narrator states, I
have no time to make love to my wife the woman head and eyes are facing down. The visual and
audio of the still is a paradox; even though the narrator is stating an infinitive verb of to make , the

The Canadian Dream In Michael Ondaatje s In The Skin Of A...
Stepping out onto Canadian soil is the dream of any new immigrant coming to create a new life for a
fresh start. The strong images of digging, logging, and construction are just some of the rough edged
images that many do not consider when imagining the Canadian Dream. The Canadian Dream in the
minds of workers in Michael Ondaatje s, In the Skin of a Lion, is labouring to create life for
themselves and working towards a steady future. Abbott describes the masterplot as stories that we tell
over and over in myriad forms and that connect vitally with our deepest values, wishes, and fears.
(Abbott 46). Ondaatje s emphasis on labour reminds readers of the difficult work that individuals
endured in the early foundational days of Toronto. The Canadian masterplot of labour in early Toronto
can be initially thought of as a sparkling dream, when in reality it was harsh work that often went
unrecognized. The less educated, along with immigrants were considered lower class and were placed
in positions of difficult work and limited pay. Historically, it may be a preconceived notion that
Canada was built with ease and peace, but in truth, weathered men and women were the backbone that
built the nation. The individuals who built the infrastructure of Toronto endured the most difficult
work yet were hidden in the darkness. They experienced the most dangerous labor yet they were
recognized the least because of the negative connotations of the job. In this essay I will be outlining

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Diversity
As philosopher, Johannes Scotus Eriugena once said, Beauty is unity in the diversity. Diversity in a
society is akin to the local signature dish, rojak , where different ingredients are mixed together in a
bowl to produce a distinct taste. Similarly, in a diverse society, there are people from various races,
ethnicities and beliefs integrating to become a unique cultural identity. Diversity inculcates acceptance
and respect in a society. One has to understand that each and everyone is unique in his own ways.
There are many diverse societies in the world and Singapore is one of them. Being a multi racial
country, Singapore is home to various races, cultures and religions. A diverse society does have its
advantages and disadvantages. The former includes the promotion of humanistic values and the
improvement of productivity and profitability while the latter may result in social tension.

One of the common disadvantages of a diverse society is that it can possibly trigger social tensions
and unrests. In instances where social tensions occur, there will be civil disorder or disturbance that is
usually caused by two opposing groups, which are made up of different races, ethnicities or religions.
This may be an impact of the rifts that are created over time due to the imminent cultural and
linguistic differences within the society. A good example is the divide and rule policy. In 1822,
Stamford Raffles devised a town plan with the purpose of remodeling Singapore into a modern city.
He set a divide and rule whereby ethnic zones were marked out for each ethnic group for residential
purposes. Such policies may result in the difficulty to maintain social cohesion and understanding
between the people of different backgrounds. It can then lead to conflicts and disagreements as well as
discriminations due to the lack of communication amongst the various

Andrew Wyeth Christina s World
Known as one of the most famous mid twentieth century paintings by American artist Andrew Wyeth,
Christina s World grows in popularity still to this date. Christina s World is much more than the
traditional landscape painting. It features a woman named Christina, who is a key subject of the
painting overall. Andrew Wyeth depicts Christina, and is able to portray her world in a detailed
manner, from an outward perspective while still being able to convey the relation of his own struggles.
Now residing in the Modern Museum of Art in New York, this painting is a direct correlation to the
artist s own emotions at the time. Painted in the summer of 1948, just three years prior to Wyeth s

or grief. This may be because of the inner struggles Wyeth himself was enduring after the recent
passing of his father. However, Christina really seemed to inspire Wyeth, and the painting of Christina
s World shows that. Even though he portrayed a plain, almost grief stricken background, the main
focus is on Christina, placed asymmetrically in the grass. She is wearing a baby pink dress, which
compared to the rest of the scene is contrasting to the other dull colors. After rendering the figure and
beginning to put color on her Wyeth said, I put this pink tone on her shoulder and it almost blew me

Environmental Regulation and the Competitive Market
Natural Resource Policy
Environmental Regulation and the Competitive Market Competition and environmental regulation are
both compulsory. Both environmental regulation and competitiveness policies are two strong policies
that are taken into great consideration. They both aim to prevent market failures and enhance social
welfare. The purpose of this essay is to find out whether strict environmental regulation can assist
industries to achieve competitiveness, followed with arguments in favor of or against. The main aim
of strict environmental regulation is to correct environmental damages while the aim of competition
policy is to prevent distortions due to the exploitation and misuse of market power. Environmental
regulations can constitute some form of barriers to entry in certain markets. It actually provides a
predatory behavior in certain markets, which is harmful to competition. Strict environmental
regulation usually results in a price rise to consumers by reducing competition in the market. Strict
environmental regulation can however reduce competition in the market through various channels like
mentioned above, by raising the price they make it difficult for other firms to enter the market and
compete and thus such regulation increases concentration on the part of firms. Strict environmental
regulation also leads to innovation by industries trying to find new ways to differentiate them from
other industries and thus increasing its competitiveness. The form of

Is the public concern over outsourcing valid?
The most cited official projection outsourcing is by Forrester. It is estimated that outsourced US jobs
will grow from about 400,000 in 2004 to 3.3 million (recenty revised to 3.4 million) by 2015 which
seems quite significant. But on a yearly basis this accounts for about 250,000 jobs but in perspective
the number is small compared to the total US employment of 137 million. It actually only constituate
less than 2 per cent of 15 million Americans who lose their jobs each year . Goldman Sachs estimates
that offshoring has accounted for 500,000 million lay offs in the past three years. A study by Ashok
Deo Bardhan and Cynthia A. Kroll at the University of California, Berkeley indicates that up to 14
million Americans now work in occupations that are at risk of being outsourced . Forrester also
estimated that 300,000 US jobs have been outsourced. While the Commerce Department 400,000 new
jobs, which leaves a net result of 100,000 new US jobs . In addition, an Economic Policy Institute in
New York announced that 144,000 new jobs were created in August 2004 . Summarizing the numbers,
it seems that outsourcing will have a positive effect on the overall US economy.

Essay about Out of This Furnace Analysis
Steel Mill Immigrants Of Industrial America
For many Americans, the late nineteenth century was a time of big business, marked by economic and
social evolution. In the period between the 1880 and 1920, the American economy was growing at a
rapid pace. Many European immigrants without industrial skills flooded into American factories and
steel mills. These new comer s came in search of better economic opportunity, which paved the way
for Heavy, low paying labor that became the job description of the era for many immigrants. One such

In the poem Icarus , Christine suggests that disaffection even affects those that are close to one
another, even when expectations are soaring. The poet frames her text around the planning of
Daedalus schemes to escape the labyrinth, but rather than being happy and proud, Icarus feels as if he
was dead weight, and urges to be something that would be of help of others with the attitude of bound
by the string connecting father and son, invisible thread I tried years to untie. I ached to be a good for
something on my own. (Lines 13 15) This metaphor conveys that Icarus even as a son, wants to stop
being connected with his dad and tries to untie their father and son bond. But as trying to untie and

The Impact Of Saint Junipero Serra
Saint Junipero Serra was born on the Island of Majorca on the 24th of November, 1713.1 To many, he
is often regarded as the founder and spiritual guardian of old Alta California, as witnessed in his rather
common title, The Father of California. 2 In response to this, an intelligent student of history might
ask himself, What effect did the man really have, if any at all? To find the answer, one must delve
back into the history of old Spanish California, taking a good look at the padre s past. To that end, this
report aims to present the logical conclusion from the facts and the evidence. Saint Junipero s ultimate
impact will be discerned with the following, especially his helping to found modern California, his
teaching and helping of the Indians, and his helping to bring the Catholic Faith.
To actually discern whether or not Saint Junipero Serra had a great effect on modern California, one
must first analyze the effect he had on old Spanish California. With this thought in mind, the first
possible thing to look at is the missions. These crusty, old adobe buildings, or groups of buildings,

into the region, and taught it to the Indians through both teaching and example. In the end, Saint

Animal Dreaming and Substantiation-A Connection to Humanity
Animal sleep is presented in various patterns like hibernation, nocturnal activity, and even napping!
For example, penguins rarely sleep in case of abrupt attacks of predators. They sleep in standing
positions for only a few minutes to provide security. In some occasions, penguins take naps in the
ocean after a full meal. In contrast, brown bats spend generally nineteen hours just on sleeping
hanging upside down. As these examples demonstrate, the state of sleeping in animals is confirmed
based on scientific research. The evidence of animal sleep is obvious, mainly characterized by
temporary unconsciousness, non responsiveness to external stimuli, and passivity in movement.

Higher blood circulation in the hippocampus was caught on the PET scan demonstrating the same

SWS, they seem to have very brief dreaming episodes. Finally, involuntary body movements show
unconsciousness or resemble the movements which happen in the dream.Initially, intellectual animals
exhibit body movements only at stages associated with dreaming. Body movements include
occasional spasms of the face, twitching, and muscular atony. For instance, dogs generally bark or

placing it into another whose organ has failed, or is injured. It is known to be life saving 80 percent of

for many dress code violations is questioned the rationale is often to prevent distracting the male
students. Young women across the country are being shamed and punished for wearing what schools
consider immodest and being a distraction to their male peers. This discrimination against female
students results in their clothes being strictly regulated and dress coded more often than male students
clothes are. The enforcement of these discriminatory dress codes has become a form of public
humiliation for female students. Theoretically, a dress code makes sense and should be effective. In
reality, it does not affect how students dress but causes a distraction and interruption of a girl s
education.
Today s fashion trends, such as leggings, yoga pants, shorter skirts, booty shorts, form fitting shirts,
and spaghetti straps, have sparked controversy in schools. They have been banned from a great many.
In my school, leggings, shorts, skirts, yoga pants, tank tops and off the shoulder tops were banned for
girls. This

A Reflection On Educational Ideas Essay
A Reflection on Educational ideas in the Enlightenment
Introduction
The Enlightenment, an anti feudal and anti church ideological liberation movement, took place
principally in Europe during the late 17th and early 18th century. The rise of concepts of reason,
liberty and the scientific method are characteristics of the Enlightenment. (Live Science, 2016) The
Enlightenment covered various fields of knowledge such as science, literature, philosophy, economics,
sociology and education. A number of influential thinkers have emerged in the age of Enlightenment.
In education, the Enlightenment thinkers John Locke in English and Jean Jacques Rousseau in French
wrote foundational texts on educational theory. Both of them laid emphasis on education in children s
early age. Their educational theories affect education not only in their respective period, but also in the
modern societies. However, there are some limitations of their educational theories.
The reason I am interested in the Enlightenment is because I have found the writings of Rousseau and
Locke are interesting and far reaching. Besides that, some of their theories strike a chord with me and
remind me of the experience in my growth process.
Rousseau and Emile, or On Education
Week 3 s lecture introduced Jean Jacques Rousseau and his novel Emile, or On Education. Emile is
divided into these five books: the first three talk about how to educate the child Emile, the fourth is
about an exploration of Emile s youth, and the

  • 2. Homosexuality In Ancient Greek Sexuality Many recent movies such as Troy, 300, and Alexander address many different topics like race, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation in diverse ways. However, the major varying topics of the three movies is the portrayal of sexuality, which must be clarified. Homosexual contact between males was common in ancient Greek culture. However, because of the contemporary public distress regarding homosexuality, movies tend to keep it out of its content. It is important to understand the similarities between each movie and the historical realities of ancient Greek sexuality. Even more so, the significance of how modern day attitudes and beliefs have influenced the choices made on screen regarding sexual orientation. To begin, since the movie Troy used Homer s Iliad as its main source, the relationships in the movie Troy were strictly heterosexual. For example, the main relationship in the movie was between Achilles and his war prize Briseis. In the movie they fall in love and over exemplify the emotional connection between the man and woman. In ancient Greek myth, the treatment of Briseis is much more severe. Also, ancient Greek sources reveal that Achilles and Patroclus sometimes were represented as lovers, although that relationship was moderated and practically absent from both Troy and Homer s Iliad. Because many of the conservative views in America, homosexual behavior is talked about seldom. It is safe to say that the movie tries to reflect Hollywood s discomfort ... • 3. The Cabanatuan Prisoner Of War Rescue Mission Running Estimate for the Cabanatuan Prisoner of War Rescue Mission The prisoners of the Cabanatuan Prison are in grave danger as the US 6th Army is advancing and the Japanese are in full retrograde; it is with this in mind that we are planning this raid. The prison camp is behind enemy lines, approximately 30 miles from Guimba, and currently flooded with the withdrawing Japanese forces. The camp is being used as a transit point as they retreat to the north and east. Daylight hours are when you find the largest troop concentrations; the current TTP is for Japanese forces to move during the night. Additionally, a projected force of about 800 Japanese with tanks and heavy weapons are templated at Cabu. The Terrain leading up to the Camp has vegetation and easily traversable roads; we have the support of the local population to help us in the recovery efforts. As the US rangers approach the camp, the last mile will be treacherous because all vegetation has been cleared and the forecasted moon and light data is not favorable. Once we start to evacuate the US Prisoners we will be faced with soldiers who have been on reduced rations for the last few years, medical estimates suggest that we can expect 7 10% (35/500) of the prisoners to be non ambulatory. The remainder will be debilitated from malnutrition and disease, making their movement slow at best. Friendly forces will consist of 120 Army Rangers, two teams from the Alamo Scouts, the Alamo Scouts bring the area expertise and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Pigeon Power House Essay Before I begin to describe the film, I would like to emphasize that I will tell Sean´s story formally in a poetic realist style. Hallucinatory, sleepwalking sequences alternate with harsh reality in a desolated environment for the sake of telling slices of true life: Emotions, diversity and the unforeseen. Now the film. It´s grey and dull. The Pigeon Power House in Dublin is not far away and one could smell the industry and the sea. 12yo Sean visits drifter Johnny who is living in a tent at Ringsend beach. In daydreams Sean wears a balaclava mask and fights adventurous battles with his hero Johnny. He admires Johnny and invites the community´s young vagabond to his home. Desperate for food and shelter Johnny agrees and Sean manages to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Digital Technology And Social Media Essay More recently than in years past, digital technology and social media have grown to become a part of our everyday lives. The recent rise in those who own smartphones allows this everyday use of digital technology and social networking to be easier than ever before. At any time and any place, we have the ability to socialize with nearly anyone even celebrities who have no idea most of us even exist. The continuous consumption of digital media has altered once personal face to face communication to just that, digital. More and more people seem to be living in what Sonia Maasik and Jack Solomon call The Cloud . The Cloud is a seemingly alternate universe of which communication is altered from personal to digital. This universe has led to debates over whether or not these online communities are real or whether social media is actually social. Various digital media sources also encourage users to create individual identities, of which may or may not actually be real. It seems as though our reliance on digital technology and social media have allowed the determination of certain aspects of our lives. Although social media allows us to connect with nearly anyone at any time, Americans have taken advantage of its use, and their attention has been drawn away from real life interactions to digital ones. The ramifications of such influences reflect the hidden insecurities of Americans and, ironically, emphasize our inclination to boast about ourselves by allowing others to see the ... • 6. An Internet Address For Example Essay An Internet address (for example, http://sju.com/men/), usually consisting of the access protocol (HTTP), the domain name(sju.com), and optionally the path to a file or resource residing on the server where the domain name resides (nest). A common way to get to a Web site is to enter the URL of its home page file in your Web browser s address line. However, any file within that Web site can also be specified with a URL. Such a file might be any Web (HTML) page other than the home page, an image file, or a program such as a common gateway interface application or Java applet. The URL contains the name of the protocol to be used to access the file resource, a domain name that identifies a specific computer on the Internet, and a pathname, a hierarchical description that specifies the location of a file on that computer. Moravia in the east consists of hilly country. The location of Prague creates extreme weather patterns and wildly varying seasons, from mild to cold. In the summer it can ranging from 20 degrees C to 30 degrees C. The average low and nighttime temperatures are quite pleasant. However, this season brings the most rainfall and thunderstorms. In the early fall you may see temperature highs of about 22 degrees celsius. Later, such as November temperatures may reach a low of 4 degrees C. There has been a lot of change in religious adherence since the end of the Second World War. At the end of the war many Australians still had British ancestors and so most people were Christian. With immigrants arriving in Australia after the war we started to see new religions grow. Orthodox Christians came from places like Greece, for example. The Catholics have continued to grow in numbers while some other Christian faiths have decreased in size. One reason why the Catholic Church is growing is because of the arrival of immigrants from places like Africa and the Philippines. With the arrival of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There used to be a time when most people stuck with the religion that their parents followed. These days more people are choosing denominational switching. This means that many people are no longer making life long commitments to one church in particular. They are more likely to go wherever they feel comfortable and look for a church that suits their needs.New age religions were among the fastest growing faiths in the 2001 census, increasing by 140 percent in the five years since 1996. New age religions differ from other faiths in that, while together they form an overall spiritual movement, they nonetheless lack any singles unifying creed or doctrine. Adherents do tend to share some similar beliefs and practices, which are often grafted onto other, more formalised religious beliefs. Another reason for denominational switching is that some parents separate or get divorced. Surveys have shown that children from families that have broken up are more likely to stop following the family religion. A study of people in Catholic and Protestant churches found the following pattern: If a family was broken up because of divorce, Catholics were 1.7 times more likely to switch to a moderate protestant church and 2.6 times more likely to switch to a conservative protestant church. • 15. Nutritionism Defined By Michael Pollan Rhetorical Analysis Presenting and writing about information that people do not understand or have interest in can be particularly challenging. As a writer, your goal is to push the reader to grasp the material that you are writing about while also making sure the reader is enjoying reading and learning about whatever you are writing about. However, achieving this balance in writing is not as easy as it may seem. When writing about a topic that people may not be well versed in, it is natural to include an abundance of facts in their work relating to and explaining the topic. In doing so, you may unintentionally bore or confuse the reader if he/she does not have an interest in what they are reading. Fortunately, there are strategies in which you can accomplish the aforementioned goal of making sure that the reader is learning from and enjoying your writing. In Michael Pollan s essay, Nutritionism Defined , there are instances in which he does a great job of presenting information that may not be very interesting to read about and there are also instances in which he could have done a better job of capturing the interest of those reading his essay. One strategy an author can use in order to help the reader understand and understand the sides in the reading is the incorporation of ethos pathos and logos. However, in this essay, only two of the three will be used as there are clear examples of both pathos and logos. These two methods can help the reader comprehend what is being thrown ... Although we are not given the specific details about when it is written or who wrote the book of Haggai, it is often assumed that Haggai himself wrote it. Scholars also presume that it was written around 520 B.C. due to the specifics of the time period given in the book itself. It is a rather short book, only consisting of two chapters, and exact dates are given as to when the Lord spoke to Haggai regarding the rebuilding of the temple. For example, Haggai opens up by saying that the Lord first spoke to Haggai on the first day of the sixth month of the rule of Darius. The messages from the Lord to Haggai were directed to the governor, Zerubbabel, the high priest, Joshua,a and sometimes to all the people of Judah. These messages usually focus on the apathy of the people to rebuild the temple of the Lord. The people of God during The Book of Haggai are avoiding rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. The first temple was built by Solomon, the son of David. David initially wanted to build the temple, but God gave the task to Solomon. The Babylonians led by Nebuchadnezzar marched into Jerusalem and destroyed this first temple of God. The temple was to be rebuilt, but it was being avoided largely during the time of Haggai. Consequently, God spoke to Haggai and had him relay messages to his people. God started by asking the people how they live in their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nitric Oxide On Oxygen Levels Nitric Oxide on Hypoxia Levels in Metabolism and Vasoactivity Regulation This review paper is based on research and learned techniques through this semester (Fall 2015), conducted under Dr. Kenneth Kambis in the Adair Hall Facility. Although final approval was authorized in December, there were previous volunteers that were informed under another approval given. In the research project titled: Individual Variability Upon Acute Exposure to a Normobaric Hypoxic Environment Simulating a Physiologic Altitude Equivalent to 3,500 Meters it covered and explores hypoxia levels in various ethnic backgrounds at rigorous activity. The concept of metabolism and vasoactivity in certain species systems is highly regulated under laboratory conditions with proper materials, methods, and equipment. Measuring ranging levels of oxygen whether in humans, sheep, rats or mice is essential to understand chemical regulation in the organism s system. This may be done in vivo or in vitro. In the laboratory, a normobaric hypoxia chamber is utilized to decrease the oxygen content of the chamber atmosphere to a percentage that closely reflects the partial pressure of oxygen in a given hypobaric environment without reducing the atmospheric pressure (Kambis, 2015). Thus the regulation of oxygen in partial pressures is similar to those found in hypobaric atmospheres of up to extreme altitude. During this age, changes the likes of which had not been seen since ancient times took place. Such change affected evert pore of Western European society. Many might argue that the Enlightenment really did not bring any real change, however, there exists and overwhelming amount of facts which prove, without question, that the spirit of the Enlightenment was one of change specifically change which went against the previous teachings of the Catholic Church. Such change is apparent in the ideas, questions, and philosophies of the time, in the study of science, and throughout the monarchial system. Previously, the Catholic Church had professed to the entire medieval world that faith in God was absolute. Indeed, the medieval world was truly an age of faith. As such, ideas that went against the teachings of God were ignored and their preachers subsequently murdered. After the Crusades brought back old Aristotelian learning from the middle east, all this changed. Advances in Geography were made with the introduction of Ptolemaic Geography. Descriptive Essay On The Border If I had to give the word luck a meaning, I would start by stating that being born to my Mexican parents and being raised in the international border between Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and its sister city of El Paso, Texas where two cultures clash and become one, has made me an incredibly lucky person. Being able to move freely between both countries has given me the ability to observe and understand the environment from two different perspectives. In a time of globalization, and taking out of the equation old and recent political events that don t respond to progress, the traditional idea of a border seems long lost. Throughout my life, I have been exposed to the realities that make a border a complex setting. On average 22,000 people cross the Juarez El Paso border daily; 1,000 of them being students seeking a better education; others are part of the workforce that impulses the economy of both cities working either in any of the 350 maquiladoras in the area or other jobs. On the other hand, some people enjoy crossing the border to visit family or to spend a day in one of the many shopping centers in the El Paso area as well as in other entertainment events. The border offers a strong sense of culture and traditions on both sides which serves its people and visitors. This international relationship is critical to the lives of many people, yet especially Mexican Americans, like me. I grew up in Cd. Juarez, in a house and an engraving business that my father inherited from his father, a man who landed in Juarez seeking opportunities that he later turned into a business. Given the fact that my father, just like my grandfather, didn t have formal higher education, and still was able to run a successful business, has taught me the value of hard work and dedication. I also learned the basic concepts of team work, through my mother who would help my father with the business. The combination of these qualities allowed me and my siblings to grow up in a healthy environment until it all changed about a decade ago during the dark times of the border. The strong images of digging, logging, and construction are just some of the rough edged images that many do not consider when imagining the Canadian Dream. The Canadian Dream in the minds of workers in Michael Ondaatje s, In the Skin of a Lion, is labouring to create life for themselves and working towards a steady future. Abbott describes the masterplot as stories that we tell over and over in myriad forms and that connect vitally with our deepest values, wishes, and fears. (Abbott 46). Ondaatje s emphasis on labour reminds readers of the difficult work that individuals endured in the early foundational days of Toronto. The Canadian masterplot of labour in early Toronto can be initially thought of as a sparkling dream, when in reality it was harsh work that often went unrecognized. The less educated, along with immigrants were considered lower class and were placed in positions of difficult work and limited pay. Historically, it may be a preconceived notion that Canada was built with ease and peace, but in truth, weathered men and women were the backbone that built the nation. Christina s World is much more than the traditional landscape painting. It features a woman named Christina, who is a key subject of the painting overall. Andrew Wyeth depicts Christina, and is able to portray her world in a detailed manner, from an outward perspective while still being able to convey the relation of his own struggles. Now residing in the Modern Museum of Art in New York, this painting is a direct correlation to the artist s own emotions at the time. Painted in the summer of 1948, just three years prior to Wyeth s father s death, the painting shows many changes that most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The grassy landscape is composed of dull browns, and muted greens conveying a sense of loneliness or grief. This may be because of the inner struggles Wyeth himself was enduring after the recent passing of his father. However, Christina really seemed to inspire Wyeth, and the painting of Christina s World shows that. Even though he portrayed a plain, almost grief stricken background, the main focus is on Christina, placed asymmetrically in the grass. She is wearing a baby pink dress, which compared to the rest of the scene is contrasting to the other dull colors. After rendering the figure and beginning to put color on her Wyeth said, I put this pink tone on her shoulder and it almost blew me across the room. It draws attention to her, and acts as a glimmer of hope. Hope for not only the struggle of Christina and her disease, but also hope for the artist himself to find a pursuit of ... Both environmental regulation and competitiveness policies are two strong policies that are taken into great consideration. They both aim to prevent market failures and enhance social welfare. The purpose of this essay is to find out whether strict environmental regulation can assist industries to achieve competitiveness, followed with arguments in favor of or against. The Impact Of Saint Junipero Serra Saint Junipero Serra was born on the Island of Majorca on the 24th of November, 1713.1 To many, he is often regarded as the founder and spiritual guardian of old Alta California, as witnessed in his rather common title, The Father of California. 2 In response to this, an intelligent student of history might ask himself, What effect did the man really have, if any at all? To find the answer, one must delve back into the history of old Spanish California, taking a good look at the padre s past. To that end, this report aims to present the logical conclusion from the facts and the evidence. Saint Junipero s ultimate impact will be discerned with the following, especially his helping to found modern California, his teaching and helping of the Indians, and his helping to bring the Catholic Faith. To actually discern whether or not Saint Junipero Serra had a great effect on modern California, one must first analyze the effect he had on old Spanish California. For example, penguins rarely sleep in case of abrupt attacks of predators. They sleep in standing positions for only a few minutes to provide security. In some occasions, penguins take naps in the ocean after a full meal. In contrast, brown bats spend generally nineteen hours just on sleeping hanging upside down. Discrimination Against Teenage Girls In School Dress Codes Discrimination Against Teenage Girls in School Dress Codes Dress codes in middle and high schools are a form of discrimination against teenage girls in today s society. Parents and students all over the country argue that dress codes are directed mainly at girls and are a blatant example of gender inequality. The idea behind the strict enforcement of a dress code is that it will teach self respect and raise moral standards for the students. However, when the reason for many dress code violations is questioned the rationale is often to prevent distracting the male students. Young women across the country are being shamed and punished for wearing what schools consider immodest and being a distraction to their male peers. This discrimination against female students results in their clothes being strictly regulated and dress coded more often than male students clothes are. The enforcement of these discriminatory dress codes has become a form of public humiliation for female students. Theoretically, a dress code makes sense and should be effective. In reality, it does not affect how students dress but causes a distraction and interruption of a girl s education. Today s fashion trends, such as leggings, yoga pants, shorter skirts, booty shorts, form fitting shirts, and spaghetti straps, have sparked controversy in schools. A Reflection On Educational Ideas Essay A Reflection on Educational ideas in the Enlightenment Introduction The Enlightenment, an anti feudal and anti church ideological liberation movement, took place principally in Europe during the late 17th and early 18th century. The rise of concepts of reason, liberty and the scientific method are characteristics of the Enlightenment. (Live Science, 2016) The Enlightenment covered various fields of knowledge such as science, literature, philosophy, economics, sociology and education. A number of influential thinkers have emerged in the age of Enlightenment. In education, the Enlightenment thinkers John Locke in English and Jean Jacques Rousseau in French wrote foundational texts on educational theory. Both of them laid emphasis on education in children s early age. Their educational theories affect education not only in their respective period, but also in the modern societies. However, there are some limitations of their educational theories. The reason I am interested in the Enlightenment is because I have found the writings of Rousseau and Locke are interesting and far reaching. Besides that, some of their theories strike a chord with me and remind me of the experience in my growth process. Rousseau and Emile, or On Education Week 3 s lecture introduced Jean Jacques Rousseau and his novel Emile, or On Education.
