A Comparison of The Book of the Family and The Selected...
During the Renaissance, many writers were authoring how to books. At the same time, mail
correspondence was the main form of communication. This gives readers and historians the golden
opportunity to perform some comparisons, and to paint a picture of what life was like in the
renaissance. In The Book of the FamilyLeon Battista Albertiillustrates to his readers through
dialogue, his vision of the perfect family. Alberti wrote his book in dialogue form, featuring the
elder Giannozzo conversing with the young Leonardo. They discuss important family topics such
as thrift, friendship, work, health, housing, economics, children and how and whom to choose as a
wife. Alberti stresses thrift with family resources and money, hard work in... Show more content on

In the question of whether Alberti s visions for a family translated into Alessandra s world the
facts are conflicting, and careful analysis will allow historians and readers to find areas where
they do and don t to reach their ultimate conclusion. Alberti s first topic is thrift. He explains a
system of spending that depends on need, value and honor in which the wise person spends
money where it is needed, on goods of value, and isn t miserly. Giannozzo tells Lionardo: With
every expenditure one must only be sure that the cost is no greater or heavier or larger than is
needed, yet no less than honor requires. Alessandra spends much of her time writing about
money matters. family. Her son in law Marco followed custom of honor in dressing his wife fits
this idea of honor. When he bought his wife clothing and adornments, he spent lavishly, he had a
garland of feathers and pearls made [for her] which cost eighty florins, the headdress underneath
has two strings of pearls costing sixty florins or more. When she goes out she ll have more than
four hundred florins on her back. For the daughter of a local ruling family and his wife, it was his

Globalization Of The American Style Fast Food
Globalization is one of the most popular issues that have been discussed through the
world by the sociologist for decades.(James A. D, Dick. P, Yongseok Seo 2006)
According to John Tomlinson s (Tomlinson 2006) cognition of globalization. He
interprets that:
Globalization is a complex process because it involves rapid social
change that is occurring simultaneously across a number of dimensions in the world
economy, in politics, in communications, in the physical environment and in culture
and each of these transformations interact with the others. (p. 1)
As far as I am concerned, globalization is happening around daily life. For example,
McDonalds, they start from a small restaurant in California to one of the world s
leading food service retailers, with more than 35000 restaurants in more than a
hundred countries.(McDonald 2014) McDonalds spread the American style fast food
worldwide. This can be seen as a globalization of food culture.
Since the societies are becoming more and more alike nowadays and leading to a
phenomenon known as globalization. Some people afraid that globalization will lead
to the loss of cultural identify while some think it can have a good impact on the
societies. Based on the bookгЂЉGolden Arches East: McDonald s in East
AsiaгЂ‹which indicates the advantages of the food globalization by providing the view
that it is not only spreading the food culture but also blending with the locals and the

However that in 2007 the market of Nokia Company started to decrease and the reasons for that is
the new competitions like IPhone from Apple that introduced smartphones, along with Android by
Google, and Samsung. Even though Nokia Company results for 2012 were pre much good by
having 101982 workers across 120 countries along with sales in more than 150 countries, and the
reports for revenue were around 30€ billion. Nokia was announced to be the second largest
world for mobiles phone makers in terms of unit sales after Samsung, with having world wide
market share 18.0%. However that Nokia Company for current days has 3.2% in smartphones
and they lost 40% of their revenue in mobile phone in Q2 for 2013. Nokia was listed in fortune
global 500 to be world s 274 largest companies for 2013 from revenue sides. So Nokia Company
has good products, services, and reputations. Knowing that their products are good and have nice

The Confederate Flag And The Civil War
The Confederate Flag
The Confederate Flag is the symbol for the Southern state in the Civil War. It is not just pieces of
material. The flag represent families and where they came from. Flags have been a part of history
since the beginning of time and the Confederate flag is a large part of the United States history.
People need to learn what the flag has represented. The true meaning. Not what they think the flag
has represented. Teaching the meaning of the Confederate flag needs to start in the schools with
young children. Without knowing the true history and meaning of the Confederate flag the war
over the flag may never stop. People cannot change history by removing a flag from a pole, it is
history and history will never change. Society can move forward by educating people on the
Confederate flag and change the way future generations view this traditional symbol of the South.
With heightened controversy today over the removal of the Confederate flag, it is important to
understand the history of it. This history of the Confederate Flag, also known as the Confederate
battle Flag dates back to the Civil War. The original 11 Confederate States of Americaincluded;
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina,
Arkansas, Tennessee and Virginia. They were a Republic made up of the Southern states that
seceded from the Union to preserve slavery and political liberty for whites.

Crowd Sourcing Paper
Every organization works for its ultimate goal of attaining profit and to enjoying a good name in the
society. Organizational success depends upon how the organization manages the information and
process for attaining the target. For that the organization should have its own strategies and
technologies for adequate knowledge management. Due to the drastic changes which has happened
in our organizational working climate, career management intervention has to be given due
importance for the performance of the workers. Human resource is considered as the most
important asset of an organization but it is a true fact that no human being is complete. Solving of

The process of obtaining information by enlisting the services of a large number of people, either

was coined in Jeff Howe and Mark Robinson (2006) ,which describes how businesses were using
the Internet to outsource the work to a large and heterogenous undefined general public usuall in
the form of an open call . The emergence and popularity of the crowdsourcing phenomenon can be
largely attributed to the rise of the Web 2.0 (FГјller, Bilgram, Koch Rapp, 2013) Crowd sourcing is
based on the concept of collective intelligence: Selzer Mahmoudi (2006 ) told that under the right
circumstances, groups are remarkably intelligent, and are often smarter than the smartest people in
them. Crowd sourcing gives access to ideas, innovations and information(Aitamurto et al., 2011;

An Analysis of the Model Minority Stereotype
INTRODUCTION
According to the 2010 United States Census, those that identify as Asian numbered more than 14
million people, approximately 4.8% of the entire United States population (SOURCE). Despite or
perhaps due to being a relatively small population, Asian Americans are not exempt from
stereotyping. While a stereotype does not technically have positive or negative connotations and is
simply a widely held generalization of a particular group of people, they are often derogatory and
convey negative impressions and attitudes. Many minority groups are portrayed in a negative and
demeaning light: African Americans are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
HISTORY OF ASIAN STEREOTYPES AND PERPETUATION The model minority stereotype
is actually a relatively contemporary model, a strong contrast to some of the original portrayal
of Asians. During the 1800s, Asians, particularly Chinese, were portrayed to be alien and
insidious, these stereotypes strengthened by to fear of economic competition. However, the trait
of being hard working was present as far back as building of the transcontinental railroad. By
World War II, these stereotypes did not vanish and were only reinforced due to Japanese
involvement in the war, particularly those of being alien and other negative attributes. The term
model minority was first coined by sociologist William Peterson in 1966 as praise for the
achievements of Japanese Americans. Using that term, he proposed for other minorities to follow
their example. (The model minority : Bane or blessing for Asian Americans? 38) Since the
coining of the term, popular press and media have propagated this stereotype (asians as stereotypes
109). In the recent years, television series portray Asian Americans as holding high status positions
or as nerds (beyond minority model 23) The model minority stereotype is still strong in current
American culture, even after more than 50 years since the coining of the term. Qin Zhang
conducted a study that tested for perception of different races and racial stereotyping. Subjects
were asked to rate the likeliness of the race of the

The Early Life Of Elizabeth Cady Stanton
The early life of Elizabeth Cady Stanton starts with her being the fourth child of six children.
Her mother was from a wealthy family and a big part of the political elite of New York. Stanton s
grandfather was an officer during the American Revolution under George Washington, and was a
part of New York state legislature. Her father was a member of the New York state legislature,
U.S. House of Representatives and after 1847 became a member of the Supreme Court of New
York State.
During the 1830 s Elizabeth s cousin Gerrit Smith home was stationed on the Underground
Railroad, and listening to the experiences of fugitive slaves made a lasting impression. Elizabeth
met her husband Henry Stanton at a meeting about antislavery, he was a public speaker who often
spoke out against slavery to hostile crowds, often times risking his life. When Henry proposed to
Elizabeth, her parents were less than thrilled, they opposed the marriage considering abolitionist to
be fanatics. This was the start of her feminist conscious. Elizabeth s parents did not attend her
wedding and during her ceremony she requested to have the phrase about obeying her husband
omitted, and kept her own name. Something unheard of in those days.
After Elizabeth and Henry were married they left to go to London to go to an international
antislavery convention. During this convention the male delegates voiced their concern that they
believed that association with feminism would harm the abolitionist cause and

What Is The Impact Of The Caste System On Indian Society
The caste system is a social system developed in India. It has a great effect of Indian society
throughout the Indian history. This essay is going to introduce you about the caste system by
telling you how the caste system works, where did it come from, and how does it influence Indian
society. First, its how the castesystem works. It divides people ranks; from high to low are
Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudra. Beside these general ranks there are also
untouchables which are outside the system. The untouchables are the lowest in the society,
usually made up of slaves or war prisoners. Your rank also influences which work you are doing.
The higher the rank is the better the work is. Brahmins are the ruling class, people in this rank
are usually are spiritual leaders. Kshatriyas are usually warriors and nobles; they made up the
military class. Vaishyas are people like merchants and producers, they are the people we usually
call the middle class today. The laborers are usually consisting of Shudras, their rank is so low
that they are prohibited from the study of sacred literature call Vedas . The untouchables do the
jobs that nobody wants to do, and for most of the times all the dirty works like cleaning up or
deal with waste. People are only allowed to do the jobs that are allowed in their rank, if they do
the wrong job, the will be punished and sometimes been killed. The communications between ranks
are also limited. Usually the higher ranks are not allowed to

The International Planned Parenthood Federation
Progress in reducing maternal mortality has been slow and uneven, including in Latin America,
where 23,000 women die each year from preventable causes. Citation (research) The International
Planned Parenthood Federation helps address this concerns; this organization is located in 170
countries. This paper will specifically focus on the globalizationissues within five Latin states as
well as the economic plans within the IPPF overall. The International Planned Parenthood
Federationcan benefit from economic globalization, however, it really depends on the global market
and government monitoring specifically within the Latin states. This includes expenses, exchange
loss, transparency and restricted funding. It is of my opinion that the International Planned
Parenthood indeed does benefit from economic globalization within certain limitations. I think it is
important to first understand what the International Planned Parenthood Federation does and why
its existence is essential in this world. The International Planned Parenthood Federation is a
global service provider and a leading advantage of sexual and reproductive health and rights for
all. We are a worldwide movement of national organizations working with and for communities

Dj Kol Herc Hip Hop History
Like any style of music, hip hop has roots in other forms, and its evolution was shaped by many
different artists, but there s a case to be made that it came to life precisely on this day in 1973, at
a birthday party in the recreation room of an apartment building in the west Bronx, New York
City. The location of that birthplace was 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, and the man who presided over
that historic party was the birthday girl s brother, Clive Campbell better known to history as DJ
Kool Herc, founding father of hip hop.
When hip hop music first developed in the late 1970s, not many people knew about it. It was
created in the poorest districts of New York City by African American and Latino teenagers as
part of a hip hop scene that also produced breakdancing and graffiti art. Many of these young
people were unemployed, but some found work as DJs in discos where they learned deejaying
techniques like how to use two turntables and a DJ mixer to play records non stop. Sometimes
they d also deejay at free block parties in their neighbourhoods where they d play funk and disco
tracks non stop and ask a friend to act as their MC. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

High Costs And Risk Of War By James Fearon
James Fearon aims to shed light on the question why conflicts occur despite high costs for the
actors involved and an uncertainty of outcome. He employs a rationalist explanation with states
as main actors not the international system. The high costs and risk of war create an ex post
inefficient, which should provide motivation for rational states to find an other way of solving
their differences which would be preferable to a open conflict (Fearon 1995: 380). Yet despite
the awareness of the negative outcome and thus an incentive to avoid it, wars between states
occur and this creates the central Puzzel for Fearons theory (Fearon 1995: 383). The ex post
inefficiency of war opens up an ex ante bargaining range (Fearon 1995: 390). This bargaining
range expands between the two preferred outcome of the two opposing states. Between the two
preferred outcomes a continuous range for peaceful settlements exists (Fearon 1995: 389). Both
states have a bargaining range with possible solutions bound by expected utility of war as well as
by the costs and risks of fighting (Fearon 1995: 388).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following Fearon there are three answers in order to solve this puzzle, which will be in detail
discussed: 1) Private information about relative capabilities or resolve and incentives to
misrepresent such information (Fearon 1995: 381); 2) commitment problems (Ibid.); 3) Issue
indivisibilities (Ibid.). Anarchy and preventive wars are ruled out as rational explanations as their
either do not reflect on costs, or do not consider bargaining between states which would create a
better outcome for states (Fearon 1995: 384,

Importance Of Nonverbal Communication
Proper nonverbal communication can be as effective as giving all the right verbal answers in a job
interview. However, poor nonverbal communication can hinder an interviewee s success in a job
interview. Reference for Business lists an interviewee s arrival time to an interview as a form of
nonverbal communicationto an interviewer. If you arrive to an interview late, you are nonverbally
telling the hirer that you are irresponsible, disorganized or not interested in the position. If you
arrive on time or a few minutes early, you send a positive message. Another nonverbal form of
communication at the start of a job interview is the handshake. Psychology Today claims the best
way to make a good first impression is through your handshake. It should be strong and last between
three and four seconds. You should make eye contact with your interviewer and shake her hand
with a complete grip. Depending on your occupation, you may be required to communicate
messages to others on a regular basis; certain occupations such as teachers, salespeople, journalists,
doctors, lawyers and corporate executives spend a great deal of their workday communicating with
others. Using nonverbal cues can enhance how people receive your communication. Nonverbal
communicationindicates how a person is feeling in relation to what they are saying, and it also
reflects how people react to the message. Communicating an important message to your colleagues
with excitement and enthusiasm may have a

tragoed The Tragic Figure of Oedipus the King (Oedipus Rex)
The Tragic Figure of Oedipus Rex
Sophocles is perhaps one of the greatest tragedians ever. Sophocles said that a man should never
consider himself fortunate unless he can look back on his life and remember that life without
pain. For Oedipus Rex, looking back is impossible to do without pain. This pain stems from his
prideful life. Oedipus is aware that he alone is responsible for his actions. Oedipus freely chooses to
pursue and accept his own life s destruction. Even though fate victimizes Oedipus, he is a tragic
figure since his own heroic qualities, his loyalty to Thebes, and his fidelity to the truth ruin him.
Oedipus pride, strung from his own heroic qualities, is one factor that ruined him. A hero prizes

Aristotle explains that a tragic character is just and good, but his misfortune is brought about not by
wickedness or depravity but by error, pride, or frailty. Oedipus fits this description perfectly. The
story of Oedipus fascinates us because of the spectacle of a man freely choosing, from the
highest motives, a series of actions which lead to his ruin. (Dodds 23). Oedipus could leave the
city of Thebes and let the plague take its course but pity for the sufferings of his people
compelled him to consult Delphi (Dodds 23). When Apollo s word comes back, he could leave
the murder of Laius uninvestigated, but pride and justice cause him to act. Oedipus cannot let a
murder investigation go by without solving the riddle of who killed King Laius because his pride
overpowers him. Oedipus pride reveals itself again in his loyalty to the truth. Oedipus constant
struggle to discover the truth for the sake of his people ruined him most in the end. Even though
he is warned many times to stop seeking the truth, he keeps on searching. Oedipus has to choose
between his doom and an alternative which if accepted would betray the hero s own conception of
himself, his rights, his duties, but in the end the hero refused to yield; he remains true to himself, to
his physis (Knox 8). Therefore, one can see Oedipus need to uncover the truth about Laius and then
about himself as proof of his commitment to uphold his own nature, pride. Oedipus quest for

The Role Of Justice And The Pursuit Of Righteousness
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was and still is one of the most prominent figures in world literature,
especially in the mystery genre. While many works of literature belong in the mystery genre, Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle s Sherlock Holmes series stands out the most. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s
famous literary works, A Study in Scarlet, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and A Scandal in
Bohemia share a common theme: the importance of justice and the pursuit of righteousness.
Sir Conan Arthur Doyle was born on May 22nd, 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Doyles were
originally from London, but Arthur s father Charles Altamont Doyle and mother Mary Foley Doyle
moved to Scotland to pursue Charles career in architecture. Arthur pursued a degree in medicine at
the University of Edinburgh, where he became bored of the subject and excelled instead in sports.
Yet, at the University of Edinburgh he met who would later be the model of the famous Sherlock
Holmes, Dr. Joseph Bell. College was also where Doyle became disenchanted by organized religion,
which can also be seen in his stories later on in his life.
After graduating medical school he struggled to make a living out of being a doctor, and released
his first short story A Study in Scarlet in 1886. Because of troubles involving ownership of the
novela, he only earned ВЈ25 from it. Doyle continued to write Sherlock Holmes stories, and after
gaining much public adoration and financial stability, Doyle initially finished the series in 1893.

The Great Depression Was The Single Most Devastating...
The Great Depression was the single most devastating economic catastrophe that had resounding
effects and consequences on people all over the world. Did the various expansionary monetary
policies employed by the Fed help the US pull out of the Great Depression during the Hoover
administration? What was done differently after Roosevelt became president? Many economists
and historians have argued that the misguided monetary policies during the Hoover administration
including the mistiming of interest hike, allowance of the decrease in national money supply and
reluctance in expansionary monetary policies due to the maintenance of the gold standardwere
contributive to the length and severity of the Great Depression. Several estimates from various
models have suggested that the mistakes made in the monetary policies during the same period
contributed to around 20 to 70% of the decline in real output during the Hoover administration
(Fishback, 2010, pg 386). After the Roosevelt administration took control in 1933, recovery began
primarily due to the abandonment of the gold standard and the appointment of Eugene Black as the
Chair of the Federal Reserve. This argument is backed by numerous case studies, economic
models, and research papers. Researching these two questions would provide a deeper insight into
some of the monetary policies implemented today and also make sure that history doesn t repeat
itself. Facts presented below supports the argument on how the Fed s monetary

Types Of E Learning Synchronous And Asynchronous
Through research I have learned that there are two types of e learning synchronous and
asynchronous. Synchronous referring to a specific hour where both parties meet for the course.
Asynchronous is using computer sources for course material and contact with instructor is done
through online programs (Bubatu). Synchronous it the type of training one would expect from a
traditional classroom training. However, today s traditional classroom training also incorporates e
learning tools. Whether the instructor is using a power point presentation, video, or material
found on a website, it s important to recognize that technology has become very important for
classroom training. Besides my high school years, I have yet to see an educator teach with only a
book in hand. As technology changes, so does asynchronous training. Newer methods of online
training become available every day. E Learning has been around for decades. Knowing that e
learning is constantly changing before our eyes, let s look at how e learning has evolved over time.
According to Nicoleta Florea, There are three generations of e learning. First generation referring to
print based correspondence. Second generation refers to the use of multimedia an instructor
available. Third generation is training done by individuals/teams with little to no guidance from an
educator . First generation training was successful but obviously had its downfalls. Print based
training gave individuals access to training but no one to

The Gap Between Generation Y And The Baby Boomer Generation
This paper reviews an article written by Elza Venter from the Department of Psychology of
Education at the University of South Africa. The article is titled Bridging the communication gap
between Generation Y and the Baby Boomer generation.
The purpose of this research was to answer one key research question: How can the generational
communication gap between the Baby Boomer generation and Generation Y be closed in order to
allow them to have meaningful interpersonal communication?
According to Venter (2016), meaningful communication between the Baby boomer generation and
Generation Y is important because these generations have connected channels of communication
and can bring meaning to each other s lives. Meaningful communication ... Show more content on

On the contrary, Baby Boomers value face to face communication. Baby Boomers are digital
immigrants who grew up without technology. They had to migrate to using technology. According
to Prensky cited in Venter (2016), members of the Baby Boomer generation had to learn the
digital language in order to communicate with the digital natives. Some members still experience
difficulty in maintaining their digital immigrant accent (p.3). Baby Boomers prefer face to face
communication because of the presence of body language and non verbal cues which are
important to them (Walmsley cited in Venter, 2016, p.4).Therefore, members of the Baby Boomer
generation will only resort to computer mediated communication if the context does not allow for
face to face communication. For example, the Baby Boomer generation will send emails or phone
another person if they cannot walk or drive to that person, they rarely resort to only instant
messaging to fill their interpersonal communication (Venter, 2016, p. 2). Members of the Baby
Boomer generation do not appreciate technological skills of Generation Y because they prefer
learning in a step by step process instead of multitasking. (Prensky cited in Venter, 2016, p.4).

social presence theory (Venter, 2016, p.2). The

Contrary to that fact of radical atheism, however, the satire of religion is generally mild. For
example, God does exist, but His final message to the Universe is We apologize for the
Inconvenience (Adams, Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, IV 665). However, other
minor gods also exist, with Thor being a recurrent character. Another particularly memorable
moment is when Zarquon, a Jesus surrogate character, returns to the Universe... a few seconds
before the Universe ends (Galaxy, II 272), demonstrating how Adams believes that even if
religions are correct, that would not change much. Finally, Adams satirizes religion very
effectively with the in book device, the Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy Mk. II, which is a
device which appears to be a bird, but has immense power. God indeed exists in The Hitchhiker s
Guide to the Galaxy, but that s about the extent of His powers. His entire involvement in the
series is minimal. The opening words of one of the novels are In the beginning, the Universe was
created. This has made a lot of people angry and been widely regarded as a bad move (Adams II,
176). So the first thing God does in the entire history of everything was a mistake, in Adams s
eyes. Next, when God sent Jesus, in the words of the novel, One man had been nailed to a tree for
saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change (Adams I, 18). So, according to
Adams, God has almost no power to influence

Virginia Woolf Death Of The Moth
The Death of the Moth by Virginia Woolf explains the life of a moth that is centered around a role
that represents life. The theme is the mystery of death and the correspondence of the life of the
moth with the true nature of life. Death is a difficult subject for anyone to speak of but it part of life.
The Death Process, the struggling and fighting against death. It is demonstrated that death was
inevitable, humans tend to fight against death and anything in the way of the power will fail
eventually. Moths are associated with death as a symbol. The character of the moth itself is a
metaphorical reference and also the representation of Woolf s mental illnesses. The moth s battle
with death can represent the struggle Woolf had with her illnesses, the ups and downs in her own
personal battles. The acceptance of death relates to the suicide of Woolf, after many successes and
failures, you can t always keep fighting. The moral is that regardless of what happens to someone,
life goes on and the world does not stop turning. The word death is repeated many times in the last
paragraph as it is trying to emphasize that nothing can win the battle against oncoming doom. ...

He is methodical, reserved, and rigid in his journey recounted in Seven Pounds (Seven Pounds,
2008). Thomas disassociates from himself as he systematically betters seven lives despite it
being the end of his own. This seems to be unimportant in the grand scheme of his plan,
something to be disregarded; the selfless aspect of his melancholic personality plainly plays a
large role as the lead driving force, furthering the plot of this film. There are many parallels
between Maslows theory of self actualization and Eysenck s introversion. They are both
personality types that fit the leading hero Ben Thomas. Both show characteristic of people who
are reserved, plan their actions and control their emotions. They tend to be serious, reliable and
pessimistic (McLeod, 2007). Maslow used the term self actualization to describe a desire, not a
driving force, that could lead to realizing one s capabilities. Maslow did not feel that self
actualization determined one s life; rather, he felt that it gave the individual a desire, or motivation
to achieve budding ambitions (Gleitman et al. 2004). This is in contrast to the correlation between
Thomas personality and his actions. I believe it is through the melancholic aspect of his personality
he is able to carry out his plan through the methodical, antisocial and thoughtful manner driven by
the introverted facet of him. While I see that it is the self actualized aspect

the growing technology and job demands receiving a college education has increased in
demand. People want to be successful in their careers and want a bigger income so a college
education is the wisest way to become successful. The supply for college is always elevated and
increases each year because more and more people realize that receiving a college education is
valuable and beneficial. Two substitutes for a college education would be self educating which
is where a person can get books, do research, and learn along with teaching themselves on a
particular topic, business field, certain materials and information. Self educating is what some
people might prefer if they do not have the drive or determination, along with finances to be able
to go to college and earn a college degree. Another substitute would be if a person would ask their
job to sponsor or pay for classes, training, or even college courses to be able to have the
opportunity to move up in the business and become more successful.

Literary Devices In The Bell Jar
In light of the semi autobiographical novel known as The Bell Jar, written by Sylvia Plath, there
are apparent literary devices in which emphasize the novel thematically. Historically, the novel was
published during the heart of the burgeoning feminist movement in the United States of America
around 1971. Thus, it rendered Plath to become an icon of the feminist movement due to
publication of such a novel that detailed the coming of age story from a woman s perspective who
struggled with external and internal complications in which thwarted her ability to grow and
transform as a woman in the restrictive society of America in the 1950s. The story is loosely based
upon Plath s personal experiences disguised under a woman known as Esther Greenwood,... Show

Even more importantly, it challenges the belief that women are dependent on men. Therefore,
regardless of a woman s talents and desires, they are deemed to be wives, mothers or small scale
jobs such as a secretary. Plath furthered such a notion by using literary methods such as inner
monologue and the characterization of male characters. Esther felt as though society had forced
women into depending on men when she narrated, What a man wants is a mate and what a
woman wants is infinite security (Plath 46). Esther was bothered by the fact that society expected
her to sacrifice her dreams in order to cater to the needs of her future husband Buddy. Thus, Plath
purposely creates the male characters to be hypocrites and morally weak to mock the assumption
that men are superior to women through the character of Buddy. For instance, Esther narrates,
What I couldn t stand was Buddy pretending...he was so pure, when all the time he d been having
an affair with that tarty waitress and must have felt like laughing in my face (Plath 71). This
shows how Plath made Buddy the male chauvinism in the novel to portray the hypocoristic ways
of men. Thus, Buddy does not even feel remotely guilty for what he did even through it was
immorally weak. Plath tries to show how restrictive society actually is by developing themes
surrounding sexism that underline how Buddy s sense of superiority is built on moral hypocoristic.

Effects of the BP Oil Spill
Four years ago from today, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and sunk, killing eleven
people. Underwater cameras showed that the pipe was leaking oil and gas about 40 miles from
the coast of Louisiana. This leak would eventually release about 4.9 million barrels of oil into
the Gulf before it would be capped 87 days later. Immediately after the explosion, workers from
Transocean, BP, and the government attempted to control the spread of oil to the coast by using
oil booms and chemical dispersants to break down underwater oil. However, these methods had
problems. First, oil booms only stop the spread of surface oil. While that sounds good, lots of
the oil was beneath the surface and the booms did nothing to stop the spread of this oil. Second,
the chemical dispersants used to break down the underwater oil could be just as harmful to
marine life as the oil was. Over 1.84 million gallons of Corexit dispersant were used in the Gulf.
Use of the dispersant was described as the most effective and fast moving tool for minimizing
shoreline impact . Despite these claims, an analysis conducted by Toxipedia showed that the
dispersant could contain cancer causing agents, hazardous toxins and endocrine disrupting
chemicals. Scientists were concerned that the dispersants made a spill even more toxic, increasing
the danger to wildlife. The dangers are even greater when poured into the source of a spill, because
they are picked up by the current and washed through the Gulf. The oil

Nietzsche Pain And Good Will Analysis
There is a belief that pain and good will are closely related to achieving some type of happiness
or fulfillment in one s life. There are many who believe that there must have been some type of
great effort yielding positive outcomes or results after passing through suffering, failure, bad luck,
or any element of pain. Having a good life as characterized by Nietzsche, it fosters a level of
discomfort or reversal between success and achievement because he believed happinessor
fulfillment was capable after failing or experiencing some type of destitution. In other words, a
baseball bat was swung to a person s head by the accomplice, causing severe pain because that
person failed to steal the bubble gum from the grocery store since they had... Show more content on

Unfortunately, Nietzsche s claim to have a good life does not render absolute fulfillment or
happiness because experiencing hardships or physical or mental pain previous cannot guarantee a
person s fulfillment or happiness. In fact, there are other ways which establish a person s
willingness to be fulfilled that is more reasonable than pain before pleasure. I must disagree with
Nietzsche s philosophical thought that hardship produces or reinforces a better outcome or
transition which manifests a person becoming happier or fulfilled with self. In the YouTube clip,
the narrator, Alain de Botton, described Nietzsche s good life is the result of hardship and pain is
where the sense of fulfillment is originated. De Botton restated that Nietzsche said: any worthwhile
achievement was born out of constant struggle and hard work [and] there was no such straight
path to the top. It can only be exposed through the direct result of unvarying trial and error which
certainly is developed as physical or mental pain. There is no glory unless distress or anguish is
confronted from the

  • 2. A Comparison of The Book of the Family and The Selected... During the Renaissance, many writers were authoring how to books. At the same time, mail correspondence was the main form of communication. This gives readers and historians the golden opportunity to perform some comparisons, and to paint a picture of what life was like in the renaissance. In The Book of the FamilyLeon Battista Albertiillustrates to his readers through dialogue, his vision of the perfect family. Alberti wrote his book in dialogue form, featuring the elder Giannozzo conversing with the young Leonardo. They discuss important family topics such as thrift, friendship, work, health, housing, economics, children and how and whom to choose as a wife. In the question of whether Alberti s visions for a family translated into Alessandra s world the facts are conflicting, and careful analysis will allow historians and readers to find areas where they do and don t to reach their ultimate conclusion. Alberti s first topic is thrift. He explains a system of spending that depends on need, value and honor in which the wise person spends money where it is needed, on goods of value, and isn t miserly. However, the trait of being hard working was present as far back as building of the transcontinental railroad. • 19. High Costs And Risk Of War By James Fearon James Fearon aims to shed light on the question why conflicts occur despite high costs for the actors involved and an uncertainty of outcome. He employs a rationalist explanation with states as main actors not the international system. The high costs and risk of war create an ex post inefficient, which should provide motivation for rational states to find an other way of solving their differences which would be preferable to a open conflict (Fearon 1995: 380). Yet despite the awareness of the negative outcome and thus an incentive to avoid it, wars between states occur and this creates the central Puzzel for Fearons theory (Fearon 1995: 383). The ex post inefficiency of war opens up an ex ante bargaining range (Fearon 1995: 390). This bargaining range expands between the two preferred outcome of the two opposing states. Between the two preferred outcomes a continuous range for peaceful settlements exists (Fearon 1995: 389). Both states have a bargaining range with possible solutions bound by expected utility of war as well as by the costs and risks of fighting (Fearon 1995: 388).... If you arrive to an interview late, you are nonverbally telling the hirer that you are irresponsible, disorganized or not interested in the position. If you arrive on time or a few minutes early, you send a positive message. Another nonverbal form of communication at the start of a job interview is the handshake. Psychology Today claims the best way to make a good first impression is through your handshake. It should be strong and last between three and four seconds. You should make eye contact with your interviewer and shake her hand with a complete grip. Depending on your occupation, you may be required to communicate messages to others on a regular basis; certain occupations such as teachers, salespeople, journalists, doctors, lawyers and corporate executives spend a great deal of their workday communicating with others. Sophocles said that a man should never consider himself fortunate unless he can look back on his life and remember that life without pain. For Oedipus Rex, looking back is impossible to do without pain. This pain stems from his prideful life. Oedipus is aware that he alone is responsible for his actions. Oedipus freely chooses to pursue and accept his own life s destruction. Aristotle explains that a tragic character is just and good, but his misfortune is brought about not by wickedness or depravity but by error, pride, or frailty. Oedipus fits this description perfectly. The story of Oedipus fascinates us because of the spectacle of a man freely choosing, from the highest motives, a series of actions which lead to his ruin. (Dodds 23). Oedipus could leave the city of Thebes and let the plague take its course but pity for the sufferings of his people compelled him to consult Delphi (Dodds 23). When Apollo s word comes back, he could leave the murder of Laius uninvestigated, but pride and justice cause him to act. Oedipus cannot let a murder investigation go by without solving the riddle of who killed King Laius because his pride overpowers him. Oedipus pride reveals itself again in his loyalty to the truth. Oedipus constant struggle to discover the truth for the sake of his people ruined him most in the end. Even though he is warned many times to stop seeking the truth, he keeps on searching. Oedipus has to choose between his doom and an alternative which if accepted would betray the hero s own conception of himself, his rights, his duties, but in the end the hero refused to yield; he remains true to himself, to his physis (Knox 8). • 25. The Great Depression Was The Single Most Devastating... The Great Depression was the single most devastating economic catastrophe that had resounding effects and consequences on people all over the world. Did the various expansionary monetary policies employed by the Fed help the US pull out of the Great Depression during the Hoover administration? What was done differently after Roosevelt became president? Many economists and historians have argued that the misguided monetary policies during the Hoover administration including the mistiming of interest hike, allowance of the decrease in national money supply and reluctance in expansionary monetary policies due to the maintenance of the gold standardwere contributive to the length and severity of the Great Depression. Several estimates from various models have suggested that the mistakes made in the monetary policies during the same period contributed to around 20 to 70% of the decline in real output during the Hoover administration (Fishback, 2010, pg 386). After the Roosevelt administration took control in 1933, recovery began primarily due to the abandonment of the gold standard and the appointment of Eugene Black as the Chair of the Federal Reserve. • 27. Types Of E Learning Synchronous And Asynchronous Through research I have learned that there are two types of e learning synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous referring to a specific hour where both parties meet for the course. Asynchronous is using computer sources for course material and contact with instructor is done through online programs (Bubatu). Synchronous it the type of training one would expect from a traditional classroom training. However, today s traditional classroom training also incorporates e learning tools. Whether the instructor is using a power point presentation, video, or material found on a website, it s important to recognize that technology has become very important for classroom training. Newer methods of online training become available every day. E Learning has been around for decades. Knowing that e learning is constantly changing before our eyes, let s look at how e learning has evolved over time. According to Nicoleta Florea, There are three generations of e learning. First generation referring to print based correspondence. Second generation refers to the use of multimedia an instructor available. Some members still experience difficulty in maintaining their digital immigrant accent (p.3). Baby Boomers prefer face to face communication because of the presence of body language and non verbal cues which are important to them (Walmsley cited in Venter, 2016, p.4).Therefore, members of the Baby Boomer generation will only resort to computer mediated communication if the context does not allow for face to face communication. Thomas disassociates from himself as he systematically betters seven lives despite it being the end of his own. This seems to be unimportant in the grand scheme of his plan, something to be disregarded; the selfless aspect of his melancholic personality plainly plays a large role as the lead driving force, furthering the plot of this film. There are many parallels between Maslows theory of self actualization and Eysenck s introversion. They are both personality types that fit the leading hero Ben Thomas. Both show characteristic of people who are reserved, plan their actions and control their emotions. They tend to be serious, reliable and pessimistic (McLeod, 2007). Maslow used the term self actualization to describe a desire, not a driving force, that could lead to realizing one s capabilities. Maslow did not feel that self actualization determined one s life; rather, he felt that it gave the individual a desire, or motivation to achieve budding ambitions (Gleitman et al. 2004). This is in contrast to the correlation between Thomas personality and his actions. Thus, it rendered Plath to become an icon of the feminist movement due to publication of such a novel that detailed the coming of age story from a woman s perspective who struggled with external and internal complications in which thwarted her ability to grow and transform as a woman in the restrictive society of America in the 1950s. Even more importantly, it challenges the belief that women are dependent on men. Therefore, regardless of a woman s talents and desires, they are deemed to be wives, mothers or small scale jobs such as a secretary. Plath furthered such a notion by using literary methods such as inner monologue and the characterization of male characters. Esther felt as though society had forced women into depending on men when she narrated, What a man wants is a mate and what a woman wants is infinite security (Plath 46). Esther was bothered by the fact that society expected her to sacrifice her dreams in order to cater to the needs of her future husband Buddy. Thus, Plath purposely creates the male characters to be hypocrites and morally weak to mock the assumption that men are superior to women through the character of Buddy. For instance, Esther narrates, What I couldn t stand was Buddy pretending...he was so pure, when all the time he d been having an affair with that tarty waitress and must have felt like laughing in my face (Plath 71). This shows how Plath made Buddy the male chauvinism in the novel to portray the hypocoristic ways of men. Thus, Buddy does not even feel remotely guilty for what he did even through it was immorally weak. Underwater cameras showed that the pipe was leaking oil and gas about 40 miles from the coast of Louisiana. This leak would eventually release about 4.9 million barrels of oil into the Gulf before it would be capped 87 days later. Immediately after the explosion, workers from Transocean, BP, and the government attempted to control the spread of oil to the coast by using oil booms and chemical dispersants to break down underwater oil. However, these methods had problems. First, oil booms only stop the spread of surface oil. While that sounds good, lots of the oil was beneath the surface and the booms did nothing to stop the spread of this oil. Second, the chemical dispersants used to break down the underwater oil could be just as harmful to marine life as the oil was. Over 1.84 million gallons of Corexit dispersant were used in the Gulf. Use of the dispersant was described as the most effective and fast moving tool for minimizing shoreline impact . Despite these claims, an analysis conducted by Toxipedia showed that the dispersant could contain cancer causing agents, hazardous toxins and endocrine disrupting chemicals.
