Levi Strauss
Levi Strauss at Home and Abroad As one attempts to assess the business ethics of Levi Strauss and
Nike in this writing assignment, we are again compelled to revisit the critical distinction of conduct
that is legal, yet still unethical. In both instances, Levi Strauss and Nike behaved with the parameters
of legal conduct, yet few would argue that profiting from exploitive work conditions is an ethical
behavior of any socially responsible organization (broad view social responsibility). Obviously, it s
very tempting to just condense this argument to the point of bad companies boosting profits from
lower labor costs via exploiting foreign workers in sweatshops . I am going to take a much broader
approach here in my assessment, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The end result of this ruling is that corporations that profit greatly from outsourced labor are now able
to pay for the elections of our Congressmen and gee, wonder how this economic favor will be repaid
when attempts to rein in outsourcing come up in Congress? Let s move on to our two protagonists in
this debate: Levi Strauss and Nike. Now that we ve got the backdrop well in hand, and a reasonable
person would agree that a massive systemic failure in the U.S. has allowed and promoted unchecked
outsourcing of jobs, it s time to discuss these two corporate giants and their respective behaviors here.
Do these two corporations have a responsibility to monitor the conduct of the companies they do
business with in particular, their contractors and suppliers? As a personal believer in the broader view
of corporate social responsibility, I believe that they do. Notwithstanding the fact that all of this
outsourcing is legal, and despite the mitigating factors that I ve argued above that do alleviate these
two companies of all of the blame I still believe that they need to take the higher moral ground. Levi
Strauss overall has conducted itself with far greater corporate social responsibility than Nike has, in
my judgment. Strauss for many years withdrew from China due to their notoriety as a non democratic
country with abusive labor conditions.

Kidney Dissection Paper
Introduction
In this lab report the main objective where to be able to
Method
Firstly the kidney parts such as the ureter, renal artery and renal vein were examined. Next kidney got
cut perpendicular to the long axis to be able to reveal the internal structure and parts. This kidney was
cut open by a medical grade scalpel and scissor.
Materials/ equipment used;
Medical scalpel
Medical scissors
Medical tweezers
Wooden board to put the kidney on and to be able to carry the work out
Lab coat
Safety glasses
Latex gloves
Discussion of dissection
There were many anatomical parts which were found when completing this dissection. Everything that
should have been expected to see was seen.

The medulla controls the amount of salt and water which is in the urine before excretion (Gondar
Design Biology, 2015). The medulla also works very hard at pumping sodium ions (Gondar Design
Biology, 2015).
The ureter helps collects filtrate and urine this is from the renal pelvis the next step for it will to be
taken into the bladder; the ureter works at all times in health animals/ people (Gondar Design Biology,
2015). Urine usually flows by gravity but mainly the flow is caused by waves of contractions in which
normally happy several times per minute (InnerBody, 2015).
The renal artery is there to be able to supply blood to the kidneys this is done from the left hand side
of the heart; this blood has to have glucose and oxygen in it to be able to keep the kidneys going as it
is hard work to produce urine (Gondar Design Biology, 2015). The renal artery branches off from the
Aorta this serves a purpose by transporting the waste filled blood to the kidneys to then to be able
filter the blood (Gondar Design Biology,

Texas Government Essay
The government of the state of Texas is a difficult and complicated institution that is composed of
many different levels. The question comes in to everyone s mind at one time or another whether or not
to trust the government. It could be that people believe that the officials will take advantage of their
power, or simply people don t like the idea of being controlled by someone who is not a family
member or friend. To avoid this centralized power, the government is divided into stages and this is a
reasonable ground for trusting the government. Government runs this state and it does deserve to be
trusted. Our government here in Texas has three major parts that play a significant part in our decision
making process. These levels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If issues are brought about, or arguments are carried out, then the Conference Committees are there to
resolve these differences. The most common Governmental figure in Texas is the Governor. This
power is nothing more than that of a celebrity status. Although the Governor has the power to appoint
independent boards and commissions, the senate has to confirm these appointments. This is called
senatorial courtesy What is meant when this job is more like a celebrity is because of the Governor‘s
ceremonial roles as acting as Chief of State. This increases the Governor‘s popularity and prestige,
and broadens the image of the office. One important power or role that the Governor is responsible for
is coordinating relations between Texas and other states. This can definitely be an important factor.
For example, the need of federal aid during the time of an emergency can require the help of other
states. The Governor also acts as the Chief Budget officer of the state. Even though the presiding
officer presides over this office, the Governor does have some control. This is a very effective
example of a good trustworthy system. The last thing that is to be discussed concerns that of the Texas
Buearocracy As to the point of trusting the government, this institution takes the cake. It is

Positive And Negative Effects Of Religion And Corruption
According to Seldadyo and Haan there are both positive and negative effects of religion on corruption.
Such results can be explained by diversity of religions and their moralities. Since this issue requires
deeper estimations, it is difficult to make conclusion for that determinant. However Pleskov, Subarna
and Zadeh in their article Religion as a Determinant of Corruption Evidence from OPEC and OECD
countries examines the role of religion in the corruption, and find out that this factor can not be
ignored. Returning to the question how religion affects corruption it would be better to introduce some
evidence. Also it is interesting to note that societies who cultivate secular rational attitudes toward
authority are perceived to be less corrupt, unlike those where traditional values dominate. Relation
between gender and corruption, were investigated by many researchers, most of people consider that
women intrinsically are less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People have to be informed about consequences of future corruption action. Nowadays, each country
has different types of punishment. Concerning to punishment by heavier fines will have strong
deterrence effects and is also an effective way to punish those guilty of corruption. Punishment by
imprisonment and capital execution will have much stronger deterrence effects because the
opportunity costs for corrupters will be relatively higher if they are put in jail or even executed.
Imprisonment and execution will, on the other hand, increase social costs, which include not only the
direct costs of jail administration and other related expenses, but also the foregone productive ability
when they are imprisoned or executed. In this sense, removing corrupt officials permanently from
public offices and an increase in monetary fines may possibly be a socially efficient method for
deterrence and punishment of

Analysis Of The Article Living On The Border Essay
In its most basic definition, the U.S. Mexico Border is a 2000 mile line that divides the United States
and Mexico. However, those who spend their lives experiencing the concept of the border,
acknowledge that the U.S. Mexico Border is more than just a line. It s an epicenter of; historical,
political, social, economic, and cultural affairs that influence people on both countries. In this essay, I
will be discussing the endogeneity effect between the border and its people and how I influence this
phenomenon. Historically speaking, the endogeneity effect between the border and its people began in
1848 with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and it wasn t until the Gadsden Purchase of 1854 that
gave the border its current form. In the article entitled Living on the Border: A Wound That Will Not
Heal, the author, Norma E. Cantu states that the pain and joy of the borderlands come from a wound
that will not heal and yet is forever healing. Said quote summarizes Cantu s observations that were
influenced by the creation of the U.S. Mexico border. One of most talked about issues to those who
live in on the U.S. Mexico Border is the economy. The economic relationship between the United
States and Mexico began in the colonial era, but it was not formalized and strengthen until the North
American Free Trade Agreement was enacted and ratified by both countries, with the addition of
Canada, in 1993. Mexican government made it clear that the enhancement of foreign direct

Drug Abuse And Its Effects
1. Introduction:
Drug abuse is a serious issue in today s society. Drug abuse is a pattern of using a substance (drug)
that leads to a serious problems or distress. 7% of people experience drug abuse one point of their
lives. Drug use doesn t automatically lead to drug abuse, it depends on how much you use. There is no
specific level to were drug using moves from casual to becoming a serious problem.
2. Types of drugs/what are they:
There are three main types of drugs that people use and they can lead into drug abuse. There are
stimulant drugs, depressant drugs and hallucinogens. These drugs are very different to each other and
give different affects to users.
Stimulant drugs are psychoactive drugs that include temporary improvements in mental or physical
functions. This drug increases alertness and energy and is the most commonly used street drug that
includes cocaine and amphetamines. Prescription stimulant drugs come in tablets or capsules.
Stimulant drugs can be swallowed, injected in liquid or crushed and snorted. Depressant drugs slow
down the normal function of the central nervous system. Many people use depressant drugs for
medical reasons to help them relax muscles, calm nerves and for sleeping problems. Hallucinogen
drugs interfere with the brain and nervous system. Random images, sounds and sensations will be
experienced but will not exist. LSD, magic mushrooms and ketamine are only a few of this type of
drugs.

Nietzsche Care Ethics Analysis
Care Ethics, a Nietzschean Response.
|It has been argued that the different voice Gilligan, Held and Tronto posit in response to ethics may
not be as authentic or empowering as it would seem (Paley, 2002; Pukka, 1990). These critiques draw
consensus by utilising Friedrich Nietzsche s thoughts in Towards a Genealogy of Morals (1887) to
suggest how, in periods of oppression, the underrepresented and disempowered have a tendency to
promote morals systems that advocate inferior attributes as exhibiting increased moral capital. In this
respect the negative externalities associated with their work can be revalued as a positive,
empowering, authentic voice of the oppressed. Following from this idea, the case has been made that
care ethics fits the criteria of a salve morality, albeit one that specifically emerged from the
consequence of labor divisions enforced by patriarchy (Sander Staudt, 2001). It is the view of this
paper that this claim is erroneous― based on an inaccurate impetus, the proposal of care ethics
exhibiting slave morality represents a fundamental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this vein the concern that care ethics may not represent as an authentic and empowering voice as it
may suggest is motivated by statistics which expose the vast socioeconomic, sex and ethnic
discrepancy between those whom receive and those whom conduct care work and the possibility that
care ethics must then present a will to power focused through the concept of ressentiment . That it is
the disempowered, marginalised and underrepresented in society whom take on the majority of care
aligns to Nietzsche s suggestion that when under coercion, the feelings of the oppressed towards their
masters becomes focused on reaffirming the traits and value held endogenously to the oppressed as
virtues (Nietzsche,

The Man Without A Face Character Analysis
The Man Without a Face
The 1993 movie, The Man Without a Face, is about a former teacher, Justin McLeod, turned painter
who was involved in a fatal road accident that killed a male student who was traveling with him and
severely scarred the right side of his body. After the crash and serving some prison time, McLeod
moved to an Island off the coast of Maine where he leads an isolated life as a painter. The community
avoids McLeod because the physical scars make him ugly and even scary. Additionally, the town
spreads many wrong rumors of him and call him names except for one boy, Chuck Nordstadt. He
gravely needs McLeod s help to pass his admission exams to a military school. At the start of their
encounters, McLeod avoids Chuck because he fears a repeat of the painful past that involved the death
of his student. However, Chuck insistence and persistence to make McLeod his tutor softens McLeod
s stance, and he embraces the idea of tutoring him. Soon, the private tutoring sessions become public
when Chuck skips home one night and is found at McLeod s house the next morning. Later, McLeod
is forced to leave the island to avoid trouble with this community who have always misunderstood
him (Gibson, 1993). Below is an analysis of the film.
The film has several characters, such as McLeod, Chuck (son), Chuck (father), Catherine (Chuck s
mother), Gloria (Chuck s sister), Megan (Chuck s sister), Chief Wayne Stark, Prof. Hartley, and many
more (Gibson, 1993). Of these characters,

Chicago Bulls Research Paper
Being the team of the decade is a huge title to have. It sounds like it would be hard to obtain that title,
but we see multiple different teams dominating the NBA during certain decades. The question why? is
a good question to ask; it can all be traced back to certain star players that would dominate the league
so much that they made certain teams a power house team. I believe that teams of the decade are not a
real thing, but player of the decade is a better term to give someone and more deserving. In the 1990s,
the team of the decade was the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls won six titles in eight years through 1990 to
1998 with the Houston Rockets winning the other two titles. This was the first dominate team to arise
since the Boston Celtics in the 1950s. However, during the 1990 decade, there were eleven different
teams that made it to the finals. This showed how strong the competition was in teams around the
Bulls were. Consequently, this showed how dominate a certain super star was to dominate the league,
since there was so many other great players playing during his prime like Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing,
and Hakeem Olajuwon. Michael Jordan was the key to the Bulls success. With undeniable stats,
Jordan crushed the league around him and brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

decade and a title a year after the decade, so they won six titles in twelve years. Their main rival was
the San Antonio Spurs, which won three out of the six titles the Lakers did not win. The Lakers were
the team of the decade due to two undeniable star players, a big man and a shooter. Kobe Bryant and
Shaquille O Neal made the Lakers the team they were. The Spurs were led by great players like Tim
Duncan and Tony Parker to become a secondary team to the Lakers. This really shows how the teams
of the decades were really just players of the

It s The Furthest Thing From Extreme
That all sounds a little extreme. It s the furthest thing from extreme. You may have carved out a sweet
little community for yourself, but you are an island in a sea of misery the tide is rising quickly. It s
only a matter of time before you and your estate are consumed by famine, pestilence, and death. We
have a small window; I m thinking maybe three to five years to try and put the genie back in the
bottle. How? We have men and women in place in state capitols across the region who are working to
reconstitute local and state governments. Many of these people are the same men and women who you
worked with during the movement. If we can get some structures re established, the goal is to hold a
second round of constitutional conventions and repeal all the Liberty Amendments and the Supremacy
Amendment at the state level. Once the Liberty Amendments and Supremacy Amendment are gone,
we can begin making and enforcing laws once again. As soon as we can enforce law, we can begin to
rebuild society based on those laws. So, let me see if I ve got this straight, William said. You took your
grandson and fled Rosewood, leaving Edward Birch in the dust, and now you re bent on starting a
counter movement, and you want me to help you foment this revolution. That s exactly right. You re
doing this because you believe that Edward Birch is some demon, perhaps even the anti Christ
himself, whose goal all along has been to unleash an apocalypse on America. You believe

Blue-1 Reaction Lab Report
The Blue Dye #1 reaction can be determined by utilizing Beer s Law, and First and Second order
integration. Beer s law is first used to calculate the molar absorptivity of the Blue #1 dye. Beer s law
states that the concentration of the Blue #1 Dye is directly proportional to the absorbance of the
solution. The molar absorptivity, e was calculated to be 9.63x104 and will be used when calculating
the activation energy of the reaction. First, the rate order for both the Blue #1 and Bleach needed to be
determined. A known concentration of both Blue #1 dye and bleach are needed to conclude the rate
order of the solutions because the rate order is dependent on the concentration of the solution used.

Langston Hughes Poem Cubes
Langston Hughes poem Cubes concerns itself with the idea of young men bringing disease back from
France to Senegal. The layout of this poem is based on the French motto of liberté, égalité, fraternité
(or liberty, equality, fraternity) which is mentioned in the third stanza of the poem. The first two
stanzas of the poem refer to the lack of liberty for the people being discussed. The second stanza then
goes on to talk about the many ways equality is missing from the lives of the Senegalese in France.
Finally, the third stanza is about the fraternity that is present when they return to Senegal. The poem
shows that despite it being the French motto, these three things are not present in their society. In fact,
they are more present in Senegal. Liberty: freedom from captivity, confinement, or physical restraint .
In the first stanza, we hear about characters who do not have liberty. They are not free from these
things; instead, they are held back by them. Hughes says that the men are a little too drunk to sing ...

In the fourth stanza, Hughes s narrative returns to Senegal. Here we are introduced to
brotherhood/sisterhood felt between these people. He refers to a collective group of them as the back
girls in the palm huts (34). He indicates a sense of community between the men returning and the
women who have remained there. However, this stanza also largely refers to the spread of disease
from the men who have been in France to the people who never left Senegal. While they are sharing
(which is a brotherly act in and of itself), they are sharing something from the French that is wholly
not something that is wanted. Though the men gained disease through negative relationship with the
French people, they go on to spread it to the Senegalese people through positive interactions. It starts

of the title of the school I thought that the school I would be visiting would be large, well funded, and

So I had to settle with just being able to take pictures of the school and the diversities that the students
see every day. One sociological theme is illustrated throughout these photos. It is the diversities that
can be seen in a public school, in Mecklenburg County. The sociological literature on the diversities in
schooling includes several chapters we ve read, including Chapter 1 and chapter 7 readings. These
chapters demonstrate diversities that can be seen in schools, such as gender, race, and sexism.
Together these readings support the patterns that the photos reveal. This picture was taken in the main
office where all visitors, students, and faculty can see. They were self portraits drawn by students at
the school, representing the diversity of students at the school. Sadly it did not completely represent
the diversity I saw in the students at the school, while I was visiting. One of the most interesting things

classrooms everywhere in America. They do not represent the diversities seen in the other Mercator

Abraham Lincoln And The Emancipation Proclamation
In school we are taught that Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. This statement is reinforced
continuously throughout our education, beginning from the time we are in elementary school to when
we are in high school. However, it s never really expounded upon when taught. The discussion never
goes further than Abraham Lincoln enacted the Emancipation Proclamation and thus freed the slaves ,
but is still able to instill the implication that he did so out of his own moral values and that life for ex
slaves was better for it. The truth of the matter is actually the complete opposite. The emancipation
proclamation was a purely political decision that instead of truly freeing the slaves, only served to
keep them bound. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He
moved between Kentucky and Indiana a little bit with his family and also traveled with his friend
when he was old enough to do so. In 1831 he settled down in New Salem where he lived for 6 years,
until he moved to Springfield, Illinois. He was a member of the Whig party, where under the guise of
John T. Stuart, he studied law, obtaining licensure in 1836, and a year later became Stuart s partner. He
was successfully part of the Springfield legislature and when he retired, had a successful law practice.

Analysis Of Amazon s Amazon Essay
Amazon has outperformed every other online retailer for the past few years. There is a simple
explanation for their success. Their main strength and why consumers choose Amazon is because they
provide an excellent customer experience. They call it Customer Obsession . If a product on Amazon
is sold by or fulfilled by Amazon, the returning process is extremely simple. In my own experience
with returning products to Amazon, no matter the case, they will pay the shipping and give the
customer a full refund or a replacement for the product. This provides customers with a worry free
experience. There is absolutely no hassle if a product is defective or if the customer simply finds it
unsatisfactory.
Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO also makes it clear that technology is important to the focusing of the
customer. In Amazon s 2010 Annual Report, Bezos said, Look inside a current textbook on software
architecture, and you ll find few patterns that we don t apply at Amazon. We use high performance
transactions systems, complex rendering and object caching, workflow and queuing systems, business
intelligence and data analytics, machine learning and pattern recognition, neural networks and
probabilistic decision making, and a wide variety of other techniques. And while many of our systems
are based on the latest in computer science research, this often hasn t been sufficient: our architects
and engineers have had to advance research in directions that no academic had yet taken. Many of

Abdul Kay s Fraud Story
Once upon a time, during the peak of the Great Depression, there was a poor man named Al Jones
who spent his days stealing what he needed off the streets of Manhattan. Across town, in a luxury
penthouse suite, lived a woman named Jasmine (Jaz for short), the daughter of the wealthy socialite,
John D. Rockefeller Jr. John had a trusted adviser named Jerry, but little to John s knowledge, he was
a member of a ruthless body of criminals, also known as the Mafia. One day, Al was out trying to steal

Sound good? Jerry said. Not so fast. Eugene! Al said as Eugene appeared, I wish that Jerry is the new
genie who has to live in that pocket watch instead of you! Eugene snapped his fingers and held up the

be accidentally touched again. Phew, now that that s over, Jaz, I m so sorry for lying to you. I know I
should have told you the truth, I just knew you and your father wouldn t have approved of me. You
know, without any money to my name. You don t know that! You didn t even try to tell us the truth!
Jaz screamed at Al, and then ran out the door of the courthouse. Jaz continued to run all the way to the
building her and Al had gone to on their first date. She went up to the roof and started to cry profusely.
After she got back to her senses, she started to think about how kind he had been to her during their
first encounter. She also thought about how sweet he was when he had already gained her father s
approval and didn t need to be. This made her realize that she could forgive his lies and love him for

Examples Of Irony In The Canterbury Tales
In The Canterbury Tales there are many examples of irony and poetic justice. There is one tale in
particular that has a great example of irony. The pardoner tale in the book The Canterbury Tales shows
the ironic greed of the pardoner. The pardoner job is to sell pardons which are basically go to heaven
free cards. So that already starts to show greed, but most of his greed comes from him selling fake
artifacts. In his prologue it even shows that he would not preach unless he was paid to do so, and if he
was paid he would preach about not being greedy it shows this on line 35 36 as long as I can preach
and get their silver for the things I teach . That shows that the pardoner is greedy and tricks people out
of their money with the corruption

Jeffrey Dahmer, The Milwaukee Monster
Jeffrey Dahmer is one of the most well known serial killers of all time. He earned this reputation by
his sick and twisted ways of killing and preserving his victim s body parts. From organizing bones in
filing cabinets to freezing internal organs for later consumption, Dahmer proved to be a very sick and
twisted individual. Throughout this paper it will be analyzing and discussing the life and possible
diagnosis of Jeffrey Dahmer, the Milwaukee monster. Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer was born in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin in 1960. Although Dahmer did not have a horrible childhood, it was not an ideal one.
Jeffrey s mother, Joyce Dahmer was reported to have a rough pregnancy. Due to her complications she
suffered from post partum depression, resulting in withdrawal from Jeffrey. At the age of four he
suffered from a double hernia. Although it was not a major surgical procedure young Jeffrey was
confused and alone due to the fact that no one ever comforted and explained to him what was going
on. At the age of six Jeffrey welcomed a little brother into the world. After his brother was born
Jeffrey s father got a new job and they relocated to Ohio where Jeffrey s insecurities deepened. At the
age of ten Jeffrey s parents started noticing his interest in experimenting with dead animals. Jeffrey
would ride his bike around the woods and collect dead animals and then take them home. Once home

Samsung Competitive Advantage
Further development of the enterprise depends on way it performs under outer factors of the market.
Regarding Porter s model of business competition forces, the company s position is analyzed
throughout five aspects (Mind Tools Editor Team, 2016). There is a significant threat of the new
competitions as this company is not the only retailer company in the world of electronics and gadgets.
Buyer s behavior defines the future effectiveness of the company as it mostly depends on the way
representatives of the target market are ready to buy top notch products by Apple and Samsung. On
this level of business performance, individual success of the company is closely connected with the
way these companies present themselves and their products on the market. At the same time, the
position of the enterprise s suppliers is vital as they define the competitiveness and variety of goods to
present to the customers. Finally, the competitiveness between the existing members of the market my
significantly influences the GWEL s performance throughout the first several years. Apparently, the
GWEL expects to invest a significant amount of income into further development of the company for
the following five years concerning strong positions of the competitors on the market. To get a
competitive advantage, the GWEL has a developed approach towards each of the five aspects. The
enterprise defines it activity through analysis of the competitors and their paradigms of market
behavior to outline

Said claims that this practice of representation creates a hierarchical relationship between the Orient
and the Occident , with the West establishing a cultural hegemony over the inferior East .
Subsequently, orientalism is viewed as an epistemological device for guaranteeing Western control
over the Orient . In Orientalism Said (1978) outlines the two crucial operations of orientalist practices
: firstly, the Orient was constructed as a wild space that had to be normalised and disciplined via a
forceful Occident who had to project their perception of order and control over the East (Gregory et al.
2009:513). Secondly, the Orient was presented as an exotic and bizarre region; a living tableau of

Comparison of the Movie and Novel, Of Mice and Men Essay
A comparison between the opening section of the novel of of mice and men with the opening section
of the film of of mice and men.
Of mice and men is a novel written by John Steinbeck. A film of mice and men was also directed by
Gary Sinise in 1992. The novel and the film are a bit different from each other. The book was written
in the 1930 s, a time of high unemployment through out America and a time of racism and sexism and
segregation. The main themes are sexism, prejudice, loneliness, loyalty and protest. John Steinbeck
wrote the novel in the 1930 s a period known as The Depression. Of mice and men is about two

The tension increases as George and Lennie try to out run the men on horses. The music becomes
faster and more exciting. There is a lot of sound in the background such as dogs barking, men
shouting, George telling Lennie to run faster. This increases the tension in the audience. George and
Lennie jump and hide in the river so that the dogs lose there scent. After George and Lennie lose the
men who were after them, they jumped on to a train which was going extremely fast. It is dark and
there are shadows. They had to jump on the train because they had no money and had to run away
from Weed.
There was an atmosphere of danger. There was no music at all except sounds of the train and whistles.
There was minimal lightening so that the setting could blend into the surroundings. There are a range
of camera shots which focus on George and Lennie. These shots show that they are workers and the
state they are in which is fatigued, exhausted and drained. In side the train is only the sound of the
conversation between George and Lennie. This conversation highlights the relationship between
George and Lennie and illustrates who is in control. It also indicates that George is being a father like
figure towards Lennie as he says go to sleep Lennie and take off your coat after Lennie says I m wet .
After that George and Lennie board a grey hound bus in a town, it is day time, with long camera shots
of George and Lennie.

Supporting Prayer in Public Schools Essay
Our Father... Denied For centuries, the debate has existed whether or not to allow prayer in public
schools. Many Americans feel it is not right of the schools to teach religion. With all the diversity
associated with the United States, public schools cannot select one standard religion to practice, due to
the cultural and religious differences in the country. Not only are schools the storm center of
controversy involving religious differences, they are the principal institution charged with transmitting
the identity and mission of the United States from one generation to the next. If we fail in our school
policies and classrooms to model and to teach how to live with differences, we endanger our
experiment in religious liberty and our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prayer should be recited only in the privacy of one s own head or home. To allow individual prayer at
one s own choice is legal. To mandate standard prayer is illegal. The good thing about this is one can
choose to pray, or not, to whatever God they choose. Therefore someone praying to Allah, Buddha, or
Satan cannot require a Christian or a Jew to participate. Atheists have the right to choose not to
participate. A teacher or a government official cannot stop someone from praying silently. Public
schools are for all children, regardless of their race, sex, or religion. Schools are supported by all
taxpayers. The U.S. Supreme Court has replaced freedom of religion, guaranteed by the Constitution,
for freedom from religion. To ban school prayer diminishes the religious freedom of students who
would like to pray and forces them to act according to the dictates of a non religious minority. School
prayer would result in many societal benefits. The public school system is tragically disintegrating as
evidenced by the rise in school shootings, increasing drug use, alcoholism, teen pregnancy, and HIV
transmission. School prayer can help combat these issues, would instill a sense of morality and is
desperately needed to protect our children. The issues of prayer in the school system used to be on the
back burner but now it has been moved upstage, front and center. The discussion of a school prayer
amendment is not so much about prayer itself but more about what kind of prayer

  • 2. Levi Strauss Levi Strauss at Home and Abroad As one attempts to assess the business ethics of Levi Strauss and Nike in this writing assignment, we are again compelled to revisit the critical distinction of conduct that is legal, yet still unethical. In both instances, Levi Strauss and Nike behaved with the parameters of legal conduct, yet few would argue that profiting from exploitive work conditions is an ethical behavior of any socially responsible organization (broad view social responsibility). Obviously, it s very tempting to just condense this argument to the point of bad companies boosting profits from lower labor costs via exploiting foreign workers in sweatshops . I am going to take a much broader approach here in my assessment, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The end result of this ruling is that corporations that profit greatly from outsourced labor are now able to pay for the elections of our Congressmen and gee, wonder how this economic favor will be repaid when attempts to rein in outsourcing come up in Congress? Let s move on to our two protagonists in this debate: Levi Strauss and Nike. Now that we ve got the backdrop well in hand, and a reasonable person would agree that a massive systemic failure in the U.S. has allowed and promoted unchecked outsourcing of jobs, it s time to discuss these two corporate giants and their respective behaviors here. Do these two corporations have a responsibility to monitor the conduct of the companies they do business with in particular, their contractors and suppliers? As a personal believer in the broader view of corporate social responsibility, I believe that they do. Notwithstanding the fact that all of this outsourcing is legal, and despite the mitigating factors that I ve argued above that do alleviate these two companies of all of the blame I still believe that they need to take the higher moral ground. Levi Strauss overall has conducted itself with far greater corporate social responsibility than Nike has, in my judgment. Strauss for many years withdrew from China due to their notoriety as a non democratic country with abusive labor conditions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Urine usually flows by gravity but mainly the flow is caused by waves of contractions in which normally happy several times per minute (InnerBody, 2015). The renal artery is there to be able to supply blood to the kidneys this is done from the left hand side of the heart; this blood has to have glucose and oxygen in it to be able to keep the kidneys going as it is hard work to produce urine (Gondar Design Biology, 2015). • 4. Texas Government Essay The government of the state of Texas is a difficult and complicated institution that is composed of many different levels. The question comes in to everyone s mind at one time or another whether or not to trust the government. It could be that people believe that the officials will take advantage of their power, or simply people don t like the idea of being controlled by someone who is not a family member or friend. To avoid this centralized power, the government is divided into stages and this is a reasonable ground for trusting the government. Government runs this state and it does deserve to be trusted. Our government here in Texas has three major parts that play a significant part in our decision making process. These levels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If issues are brought about, or arguments are carried out, then the Conference Committees are there to resolve these differences. The most common Governmental figure in Texas is the Governor. This power is nothing more than that of a celebrity status. Although the Governor has the power to appoint independent boards and commissions, the senate has to confirm these appointments. This is called senatorial courtesy What is meant when this job is more like a celebrity is because of the Governor‘s ceremonial roles as acting as Chief of State. This increases the Governor‘s popularity and prestige, and broadens the image of the office. One important power or role that the Governor is responsible for is coordinating relations between Texas and other states. This can definitely be an important factor. For example, the need of federal aid during the time of an emergency can require the help of other states. The Governor also acts as the Chief Budget officer of the state. Even though the presiding officer presides over this office, the Governor does have some control. This is a very effective example of a good trustworthy system. The last thing that is to be discussed concerns that of the Texas Buearocracy As to the point of trusting the government, this institution takes the cake. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Positive And Negative Effects Of Religion And Corruption According to Seldadyo and Haan there are both positive and negative effects of religion on corruption. Such results can be explained by diversity of religions and their moralities. Since this issue requires deeper estimations, it is difficult to make conclusion for that determinant. However Pleskov, Subarna and Zadeh in their article Religion as a Determinant of Corruption Evidence from OPEC and OECD countries examines the role of religion in the corruption, and find out that this factor can not be ignored. Returning to the question how religion affects corruption it would be better to introduce some evidence. Also it is interesting to note that societies who cultivate secular rational attitudes toward authority are perceived to be less corrupt, unlike those where traditional values dominate. Relation between gender and corruption, were investigated by many researchers, most of people consider that women intrinsically are less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People have to be informed about consequences of future corruption action. Nowadays, each country has different types of punishment. Concerning to punishment by heavier fines will have strong deterrence effects and is also an effective way to punish those guilty of corruption. Punishment by imprisonment and capital execution will have much stronger deterrence effects because the opportunity costs for corrupters will be relatively higher if they are put in jail or even executed. Imprisonment and execution will, on the other hand, increase social costs, which include not only the direct costs of jail administration and other related expenses, but also the foregone productive ability when they are imprisoned or executed. In this sense, removing corrupt officials permanently from public offices and an increase in monetary fines may possibly be a socially efficient method for deterrence and punishment of ... • 6. Analysis Of The Article Living On The Border Essay In its most basic definition, the U.S. Mexico Border is a 2000 mile line that divides the United States and Mexico. However, those who spend their lives experiencing the concept of the border, acknowledge that the U.S. Mexico Border is more than just a line. It s an epicenter of; historical, political, social, economic, and cultural affairs that influence people on both countries. In this essay, I will be discussing the endogeneity effect between the border and its people and how I influence this phenomenon. Historically speaking, the endogeneity effect between the border and its people began in 1848 with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and it wasn t until the Gadsden Purchase of 1854 that gave the border its current form. In the article entitled Living on the Border: A Wound That Will Not Heal, the author, Norma E. Cantu states that the pain and joy of the borderlands come from a wound that will not heal and yet is forever healing. Said quote summarizes Cantu s observations that were influenced by the creation of the U.S. Mexico border. One of most talked about issues to those who live in on the U.S. Mexico Border is the economy. The economic relationship between the United States and Mexico began in the colonial era, but it was not formalized and strengthen until the North American Free Trade Agreement was enacted and ratified by both countries, with the addition of Canada, in 1993. Mexican government made it clear that the enhancement of foreign direct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Drug use doesn t automatically lead to drug abuse, it depends on how much you use. There is no specific level to were drug using moves from casual to becoming a serious problem. 2. Types of drugs/what are they: There are three main types of drugs that people use and they can lead into drug abuse. There are stimulant drugs, depressant drugs and hallucinogens. These drugs are very different to each other and give different affects to users. Stimulant drugs are psychoactive drugs that include temporary improvements in mental or physical functions. This drug increases alertness and energy and is the most commonly used street drug that includes cocaine and amphetamines. Prescription stimulant drugs come in tablets or capsules. Stimulant drugs can be swallowed, injected in liquid or crushed and snorted. Depressant drugs slow down the normal function of the central nervous system. • 8. Nietzsche Care Ethics Analysis Care Ethics, a Nietzschean Response. |It has been argued that the different voice Gilligan, Held and Tronto posit in response to ethics may not be as authentic or empowering as it would seem (Paley, 2002; Pukka, 1990). These critiques draw consensus by utilising Friedrich Nietzsche s thoughts in Towards a Genealogy of Morals (1887) to suggest how, in periods of oppression, the underrepresented and disempowered have a tendency to promote morals systems that advocate inferior attributes as exhibiting increased moral capital. In this respect the negative externalities associated with their work can be revalued as a positive, empowering, authentic voice of the oppressed. Following from this idea, the case has been made that care ethics fits the criteria of a salve morality, albeit one that specifically emerged from the consequence of labor divisions enforced by patriarchy (Sander Staudt, 2001). It is the view of this paper that this claim is erroneous― based on an inaccurate impetus, the proposal of care ethics exhibiting slave morality represents a fundamental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this vein the concern that care ethics may not represent as an authentic and empowering voice as it may suggest is motivated by statistics which expose the vast socioeconomic, sex and ethnic discrepancy between those whom receive and those whom conduct care work and the possibility that care ethics must then present a will to power focused through the concept of ressentiment . That it is the disempowered, marginalised and underrepresented in society whom take on the majority of care aligns to Nietzsche s suggestion that when under coercion, the feelings of the oppressed towards their masters becomes focused on reaffirming the traits and value held endogenously to the oppressed as virtues (Nietzsche, ... The Man Without A Face Character Analysis The Man Without a Face The 1993 movie, The Man Without a Face, is about a former teacher, Justin McLeod, turned painter who was involved in a fatal road accident that killed a male student who was traveling with him and severely scarred the right side of his body. After the crash and serving some prison time, McLeod moved to an Island off the coast of Maine where he leads an isolated life as a painter. The community avoids McLeod because the physical scars make him ugly and even scary. Additionally, the town spreads many wrong rumors of him and call him names except for one boy, Chuck Nordstadt. He gravely needs McLeod s help to pass his admission exams to a military school. At the start of their encounters, McLeod avoids Chuck because he fears a repeat of the painful past that involved the death of his student. However, Chuck insistence and persistence to make McLeod his tutor softens McLeod s stance, and he embraces the idea of tutoring him. Soon, the private tutoring sessions become public when Chuck skips home one night and is found at McLeod s house the next morning. Later, McLeod is forced to leave the island to avoid trouble with this community who have always misunderstood him (Gibson, 1993). Below is an analysis of the film. • 10. Chicago Bulls Research Paper Being the team of the decade is a huge title to have. It sounds like it would be hard to obtain that title, but we see multiple different teams dominating the NBA during certain decades. The question why? is a good question to ask; it can all be traced back to certain star players that would dominate the league so much that they made certain teams a power house team. I believe that teams of the decade are not a real thing, but player of the decade is a better term to give someone and more deserving. In the 1990s, the team of the decade was the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls won six titles in eight years through 1990 to 1998 with the Houston Rockets winning the other two titles. This was the first dominate team to arise since the Boston Celtics in the 1950s. However, during the 1990 decade, there were eleven different teams that made it to the finals. This showed how strong the competition was in teams around the Bulls were. Consequently, this showed how dominate a certain super star was to dominate the league, since there was so many other great players playing during his prime like Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, and Hakeem Olajuwon. The Lakers were the team of the decade due to two undeniable star players, a big man and a shooter. Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O Neal made the Lakers the team they were. You may have carved out a sweet little community for yourself, but you are an island in a sea of misery the tide is rising quickly. It s only a matter of time before you and your estate are consumed by famine, pestilence, and death. We have a small window; I m thinking maybe three to five years to try and put the genie back in the bottle. How? We have men and women in place in state capitols across the region who are working to reconstitute local and state governments. Many of these people are the same men and women who you worked with during the movement. If we can get some structures re established, the goal is to hold a second round of constitutional conventions and repeal all the Liberty Amendments and the Supremacy Amendment at the state level. Once the Liberty Amendments and Supremacy Amendment are gone, we can begin making and enforcing laws once again. As soon as we can enforce law, we can begin to rebuild society based on those laws. So, let me see if I ve got this straight, William said. Beer s law states that the concentration of the Blue #1 Dye is directly proportional to the absorbance of the solution. The molar absorptivity, e was calculated to be 9.63x104 and will be used when calculating the activation energy of the reaction. First, the rate order for both the Blue #1 and Bleach needed to be determined. • 15. Langston Hughes Poem Cubes Langston Hughes poem Cubes concerns itself with the idea of young men bringing disease back from France to Senegal. The layout of this poem is based on the French motto of liberté, égalité, fraternité (or liberty, equality, fraternity) which is mentioned in the third stanza of the poem. The first two stanzas of the poem refer to the lack of liberty for the people being discussed. The second stanza then goes on to talk about the many ways equality is missing from the lives of the Senegalese in France. Finally, the third stanza is about the fraternity that is present when they return to Senegal. The poem shows that despite it being the French motto, these three things are not present in their society. In fact, they are more present in Senegal. However, this stanza also largely refers to the spread of disease from the men who have been in France to the people who never left Senegal. Also because of the title of the school I thought that the school I would be visiting would be large, well funded, and have a verity of different students that attended the school. The school turned out to be quite small from other Elementary schools that I had visited in my neighborhood. It was also quite small compared to my own Elementary ... One sociological theme is illustrated throughout these photos. It is the diversities that can be seen in a public school, in Mecklenburg County. The sociological literature on the diversities in schooling includes several chapters we ve read, including Chapter 1 and chapter 7 readings. These chapters demonstrate diversities that can be seen in schools, such as gender, race, and sexism. Together these readings support the patterns that the photos reveal. This picture was taken in the main office where all visitors, students, and faculty can see. They were self portraits drawn by students at the school, representing the diversity of students at the school. Sadly it did not completely represent the diversity I saw in the students at the school, while I was visiting. One of the most interesting things I saw and related back to class was the traditional American Mercator maps that are seen in classrooms everywhere in America. They do not represent the diversities seen in the other Mercator maps seen in class or Peters Projection Maps. The picture on the left can be seen in the front of the main building. The picture on the right can be seen on one of the playground areas outside of the class room. We grow up with the idea, from an early age, that these are the only maps and views of the world when it comes to North America. This picture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Abraham Lincoln And The Emancipation Proclamation In school we are taught that Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. This statement is reinforced continuously throughout our education, beginning from the time we are in elementary school to when we are in high school. However, it s never really expounded upon when taught. The discussion never goes further than Abraham Lincoln enacted the Emancipation Proclamation and thus freed the slaves , but is still able to instill the implication that he did so out of his own moral values and that life for ex slaves was better for it. The truth of the matter is actually the complete opposite. The emancipation proclamation was a purely political decision that instead of truly freeing the slaves, only served to keep them bound. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He moved between Kentucky and Indiana a little bit with his family and also traveled with his friend when he was old enough to do so. In 1831 he settled down in New Salem where he lived for 6 years, until he moved to Springfield, Illinois. He was a member of the Whig party, where under the guise of John T. Stuart, he studied law, obtaining licensure in 1836, and a year later became Stuart s partner. He was successfully part of the Springfield legislature and when he retired, had a successful law practice.
