The Evolution Of Punishment And Its Effect On Society
Introduction
The evolution of punishment has come a long way in Canada from Confederation in the 1800 s to
present day 21st century. Research has been going on continuously to identify whether these
punishments are based on a person s behaviour or on society itself. The word punishment is referred
to as a penalty inflicted on an offender through judicial procedure ( Punishment | Definition of
Punishment by Merriam Webster ). In today s society does the punishment equivalent to the crime
committed by an offender? Therefore, how much punishment should one receive based on their
offence? It is a conflicting matter that has brought the government and the public into speculation
on the judicial system from time to time. Punishment is a philosophy, which states many years back
when someone was seen committing wrongdoings they were punished by cutting off their heads or
hanging them.
During the evolution it used to be an eye for an eye, if you killed me, I went after your family as
revenge. The days have changed, where now they have introduced the Canadian Bill of laws, to
help with the punishment of offenders. Now capital punishment is punishments that result in death
penalties for people who have committed capital crimes, and offences. It is viewed around the
world as something different. For example, in certain parts of the world people do not believe in
punishment, whereby in some parts they do believe and take very extreme measures. In parts of the
world such as India,

Journal on Financial Ratio Analysis
Session 15: Limitation of Ratio Analysis Learning Objective Explain to the participants on the
limitation of ratio analysis. Important Termss Creative accounting. Accounting Policies. Limitations
of Ratios Accounting Information Different Accounting Policies The choices of accounting
policies may distort inter company comparisons. Example IAS 16 allows valuation of assets to be
based on either revalued amount or at depreciated historical cost. The business may opt not to
revalue its asset because by doing so the depreciation charge is going to be high and will result in
lower profit. Creative accounting The businesses apply creative accounting in trying to show the

It is likely to be done in a sensitive period, perhaps when the business s profits are low. Changes
in Accounting standard Accounting standards offers standard ways of recognising, measuring
and presenting financial transactions. Any change in standards will affect the reporting of an
enterprise and its comparison of results over a number of years. Impact of seasons on trading As
stated above, the financial statements are based on year end results which may not be true
reflection of results year round. Businesses which are affected by seasons can choose the best
time to produce financial statements so as to show better results. For example, a tobacco
growing company will be able to show good results if accounts are produced in the selling
season. This time the business will have good inventory levels, receivables and bank balances
will be at its highest. While as in planting seasons the company will have a lot of liabilities
through the purchase of farm inputs, low cash balances and even nil receivables. Inter firm
comparison Different financial and business risk profile No two companies are the same, even
when they are competitors in the same industry or market. Using ratios to compare one company
with another could provide misleading information. Businesses may be within the same industry
but having different financial and business risk. One company may be able to obtain bank loans at
reduced rates and may show high gearing

The Important Role of Federalism in the Development and...
Federalism plays an integral part in the growth and development of the United States of America
and is a key factor in determining the basis of power in this country. Clearly, the term federalism
can be understood in many different ways pertaining to each person s view, but it can be more
broadly defined in terms of the separation between the state and federal government. Thomas E.
Patterson defines federalismas, the division of sovereignty, or ultimate governing authority, between
a national government and regional (that is, state) governments. Each directly governs the people
and derives its authority from them (Patterson 74). He then goes on to give a more basic definition
with, American Federalism is basically a system of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These powers provide the federal and the state governments with their role in the function of
federalism. Further, Article VI gives the dominant rule of law to the federal government over the
states rights in case there is ever a misunderstanding. The Framers of the Constitution were
worried that providing such a narrow definition would result in the government being unable to
adapt to change (Patterson 78). Thus, the implied powers are stated in the Constitution under
Article I, Section 8, Clause 18 better known as the Necessary and Proper Clause, and gives
Congress the power to make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into
execution the foregoing powers. This clause allows Congress to adapt to change and implement
laws which are necessary given the time. The remaining powers are then given to the states by the
Tenth Amendment. Federalism outlined in the Constitution allows for a separation of powers and
provides specifics for each level, which ultimately allows for a more balanced form of government.
It has been more than 200 years since the Constitution was formulated and federalism has been
through many different interpretations throughout the years. Dual federalism was outlined by a
strict line between federal and state with no room for misinterpretation. You either had the power,

The Democratic Party And Jacksonian Democracy
Political parties are formed when voters have different ideology regarding government, economics,
and politics. The Second Party System emerged after the Democratic and Whig parties came to
power in America. The development of this party system was prompted by the clashing
philosophies about individual rights, government control, and land acquisition. Despite both parties
being equally prevalent in America, the Democratic Partyflourished and was drastically much more
successful than the Whig Party at impacting the nation. Between 1824 and 1828, with the support
of Andrew Jackson, the Democratic Party was born. The beginning of this new Democratic era was
known as Jacksonian Democracybecause it was led by Jackson and his... Show more content on

The Whigs coined their name from the 18th century word used to describe American and British
opponents of tyranny. They called themselves this because they believed that Jackson abused his
presidential veto and turned into a tyrant. The majority of the Whig party consisted of highly
skilled workers, successful business owners, and manufacturers that lived in New England and the
Upper Midwest. The Whig Party favored government support in economic and social affairs. The
Whigs believed that government influence promoted the growth and success of the economy. For
this reason, the Whigs favored the spread of banks, passing of tariffs, and new transportation
projects. The Whigs also believed that they could promote social progress by allowing the
government to have control of society through regulations and reforms such as the prohibition of
alcohol and the prohibition of business activities on Sundays. The Whigs also aimed to make
society better through the building of hospitals, insane asylums, and public schools. Whig
philosophies revolved around strengthening the economy and creating a progressive society.
Despite having a strong presence in America, the Whig Party s influence on the government and
economy never surpassed the impact of the Democratic Party. Throughout most of the presidencies
during the 19th century, the Democrats dominated the campaign. The Democrats executed many of
their aspirations leaving a long lasting

Summary Of Made In America By Kilibrand
Kirsten Gillibrand presents herself as a person who wants to get her point across and someone
that is serious about their job. She always has a goal and tries to work toward that goal to
achieve and make things better for the community. Kirsten does a lot of campaign ads to get her
point across and to ensure the people that she is trying her best to help them. Her campaign ads
are usually videos she uses so help get a point across. One of the campaign ads I saw was a video
called Made in America . In this video, Kirsten talked about where she was from and how she
knows what the people is going through so it is her job to help fix the situation. In the video, she
showed her family and expressed that upstate New Yorkis where they call home so she
sympathizes with the people on the point. Also, she starts to talk about the economic priorities
taxes so she tried to fix things by making giving a property tax relief, she wrote an upstate job
bill, and she voted to end tax breaks. These are all the things the people were looking for as a start
to fix the economy in upstate New York.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything that she said in the video she has listed on her website. She makes it clear that her
main goal is change and to fix the issues that Upstate citizens are facing. When you go to her
website one of the first things you see is a paragraph about what she plans to do to help fix the
state. When looking at that paragraph you should be able to see that she listed her number one
priority is rebuilding the economy. This was a good comparison because unlike many legislatures
you usually see their ads and websites not matching up with things they have said but Gillibrand s
is spot on and I can see that she is serious about her job and she wants to help fix what has been

The Importance of Color in Toni Morrison s Beloved Essay
The Importance of Color in Toni Morrison s Beloved
Toni Morrison s Beloved a novel that addresses the cruelties that result from slavery. Morrison
depicts the African American s quest for a new life while showing the difficult task of escaping the
past. The African American simply wants to claim freedom and create a sense of community. In
Beloved, the characters suffer not from slavery itself, but as a result of slavery that is to say the
pain occurs as they reconstruct themselves, their families, and their communities only after the
devastation of slavery (Kubitschek 115). Throughout the novel, Morrison utilizes color as a
symbolic tool to represent a free, safe, happy life as well as involvement in community and ... Show

In his journey North, Paul D would scan the horizon for a flash of pink or white...[or] blossoming
plums (Morrison 113). By having Paul D search for colorful flowers, Morrison illustrates Paul D s
desire for a life full of safety, enjoyment, and freedom.
Just as Paul D desires a better life after slavery, so does Baby Suggs. As a slave, Suggs was
suppressed and did not experience the type of life she desired. Morrison indirectly demonstrates
this by purposely leaving out any descriptions of color in Suggs s life when she was a slave.
Morrison uses this absence of color to express that Suggs had lived the life which she had longed
for. She did not experience independence, freedom, safety nor a sense of community when she
was a slave. However, after she was sold, she searched for color, or the life that she had wanted.
For, she had never had time to see, let alone enjoy it before (Morrison 201). Enjoying every color
that she could, trying to compensate for the time wasted as a slave, Suggs retreated to her room
and concentrated on color. It took her a long time to finish with blue, then yellow then green
(Morrison 201). Making explicit the absence of color while Suggs was a slave and then describing
the way she relished the colors of her newly acquired freedom, Morrison conveys Suggs s
fulfillment of the life she had longed to have when she was a slave. Finally, as her life ended,
Suggs was happy with the freedom, sense of

Les Liaisons Dangereuses Research Paper
Women in 18th century literature often found themselves in a lose lose situation. Men wanted
seductive women that would cater to their every wish, but they also wanted virginal women to be
their little housewives. In 18th century literature, women often fell into the men s traps and
succumbed to seduction. After they fell though, they would have to be punished in order to prevent
women of the time period reading these stories from thinking they had too much power. One of the
most powerful weapons a womanhad over a man was her sexuality. One can see an example of two
of these women in Les Liaisons Dangereuses. CГ©cile and Madame de Tourvel both represent 18th
century literature women who succumbed to seduction and were severely punished at the... Show

She was a deeply religious woman with high morals, but she could not withstand the charms of
Valmont. He shamed her using her morals so she would feel obligated to love him. Valmont
decided to give up love forever since she would not love him back, and Tourvel felt she had to
save him from a lifetime of unhappiness (Les Liaisons Dangereuses 273). Tourvel did not give
in to Valmont due to pleasure; she felt she was sacrificing her happiness for his. When Valmont
is convinced by Merteuil to end their affair, Tourvel ran away to a convent (Les Liaisons
Dangereuses 317). She not only lost her chastity with Valmont, but she also lost her faith. Tourvel
had committed wholeheartedly to loving and saving Valmont, and he basically threw her to the
side. The letter that Valmont sent her written by Merteuil stated repeatedly that it was not his
fault (Les Liaisons Dangereuses 315). She felt there was no other way to repent for her adultery
other than to die. She believed that she was doing God s work by converting Valmont, but, when
he left her, she lost the faith that what she was doing was God s work. She said many times that
she should have trusted her friends and stayed true to her husband, but she was blinded by the need
to help Valmont. Even though her punishment was self inflicted, she was still punished. Since her
fall was much greater, the author made her punishment more severe. As many doctors could tell,
there was no physical virus plaguing her. The only thing wrong with Tourvel was her want to
punish herself with pain, suffering, and death. Until the bitter end, Tourvel wanted to still save
Valmont. When she learns of his death, she prays for God to punish her and spare him (Les
Liaisons Dangereuses 353). Tourvel s death seems like an extreme punishment for succumbing to
Valmont. However, it was the only punishment fit for a woman of the time period who betrayed

Key Implications Of The Solow Model
The Solow model is widely considered to be the standard neoclassical economic growth model
which serves as the basis for understanding economic growth. I will first introduce the two basic
equations that the Solow model is built around, discussing the main assumptions made along the
way. I will then present the key equation of the Solow model and discuss its results and
implications. I will then address why it is desirable to use log linearization, and how it can be used
to study the dynamics near the steady state. We will then briefly look into the empirical results of
Mankiw et al. (1992) and what they mean for the Solow model. We begin with the aggregate
production function of the model. Let us denote output (Y), capital (K), labour (L) and the index of
productive efficiency (A). The production function can then be written as:
Y=F(K,AL) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To the contrary, if a is high then the rate of convergence is low because diminishing returns set in
slowly.
The differential equation for output convergence is quite similar. Assuming Cobb Douglas
technology we can show that y=k^a which then implies that y М‡/y=a k М‡/k by taking logs and
differentiating with respect to time. Here a is translating a given growth rate of capital into a given
growth rate of output. Substituting into the previous differential equation we get a new one for the
growth rate of output:
y ̇/y≈ λ[logy logy^*]
The growth rate in each of these expressions is linear in the gap from the steady state measured in
logarithms.
Solving both differential equations and re arranging we get: logy(t) =(e^( О»t) )logy(0)+(1 e^(
О»t) )logy^* (5) k(t) k^*=(e^( О»t) )[k(0) k^*]

Readers gain a sense of trust with McDougall because his work highlights a notable successor in the
realm of running and athletic achievement. McDougall reports the achievements of Stanford
University head coach Vin Lananna, whose track and cross country teams won five NCAA team
championships and twenty two individual titles, and being named NCAA Cross Country Coach of
the Year (169). McDougall strategically profiles the laudable reputation of coach Lananna s success
in coaching by discussing his experiences. Coach Lananna knew of the Nike mythos, while the
brand represented vitality and wealth, the product was costly and detrimental to those who wore it.
This example increases the effectiveness and the believability of McDougall s argument by
providing expert opinion that big running companies severely hindered athletic ability. Moreover,
McDougall s targeted audience is eclectic anyone who is interested in running, by familiarizing
himself and anyone reading on the topic with the use of credible professionals. McDougall s
purpose of Lananna s testimony was to further edify the ethos of his argument that running wasn t
about the glamorous cushioned shoes it was just about running. Running is not supposed to be
coupled with shoes that have thick rubber for heel support, and big companies knew this.
McDougall not only couple his ethos with testimony, but he also couples his ethos with

The Benefits Of Gay And Lesbians In The Military
In addition, all people should be allowed to serve freely in the military. If gay, lesbian and
bisexual people are willing to serve and die for their country, they shouldn t hide their sexual
orientation. Gay and lesbian Americans are anxiously willing to serve the country but they also
want to reveal their true identity as homosexuals. And for the first time ever, they will be able to
openly join the army. Brave men and women currently serving in the army will have the
opportunity to come out freely and to be honest with their companions about whom they are and
who they love. Therefore, nationalistic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about
who they are in order to serve the country they love. And the armed forces will no longer lose its
remarkable skills and combat experience of so many gayand lesbian service members.
Today, every American can be honored that we have taken another great step toward keeping our
military the finest in the world and toward fulfilling our nation s founding ideals. Many countries
prohibited gays and lesbians from serving openly in the armed forces. The reasons to implement
this prohibition, included the hidden negative bounce on unit cohesion and confidential concerns.
However, many studies were charged to examine the effects on the military, and found that little
evidence existed to support the prejudiced policy. Moreover, when the ban was abolished in several

Takeaways Analysis
On Sunday night, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 132 113 in Game 2
of the 2017 NBA Finals, taking a commanding 2 0 series lead. Even though Cavaliers superstar
LeBron James notched his eighth NBA Finals triple double, tying him with Magic Johnson for the
most in NBA Finals history, it was not enough to overcome the offensive firepower of the Warriors.
Just like in Game 1, it was once again the Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry show.
Here are three takeaways from Game 2:
1. Kevin Durant is on his way to potentially being named Finals MVP

To answer that question, Durant did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite his stellar perimeter defense, the Warriors needed Thompson to find his shot again and give
them an extra offensive boost in Game 2.
Thompson did just that as he pitched in with 22 points and seven rebounds, plus knocked down 4
of 7 from three point range. Give Thompson credit though, he is an outstanding shooter and when
you are a shooter like him, you need to have a short memory.
A missed shot will not make or break you. Thompson was knocking down shots inside the arc,
putting the ball on the floor, and dialing it up from distance.
The Warriors will need him to continue to shoot the ball like he did on Sunday night, especially if
they want to win Game 3 on Tuesday night and take a commanding 3 0 series lead.
3. LeBron James is still the greatest player in the world but he cannot do it all
Once again in the NBA Finals, LeBron James gave us another special performance. As I mentioned
earlier, James posted his eighth NBA Finals triple double consisting of 29 points, 14 rebounds, and
11 assists, but it was not enough.
Early in the game, James was playing like a man possessed. He was controlling the tempo,
attacking the basket with force and tenacity, while also getting his teammates involved. He also
threw down a powerful dunk on Andre Iguodala, who was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
However, James teammates could not reciprocate the favor and help him out. Just like in Game 1,

QUESTION 1 Sony s TV Business Keeps Fading to Red 1.Discuss the structural characteristics of
the television manufacturing industry using the Five Competitive Forces. a.Competitors: The
competition is really high in the television manufacturing industry because there are several major
players. Therefore, price competition is created. b.Substitutes: The internet and the computer is a
strong substitute since all channels can be accessed on the web as well. Furthermore, small and
hand held devices like IPhones and IPads are also substitutes. c.New entrants: The threat of new
entrants is low since the television manufacturing market is fading away. High capital
requirements, switching costs and economies of scale are barriers to entry. In addition, the
television manufacturing industry market is saturated with competitors. d.Power of buyers: The
power of buyers in this industry is high. The main reason for this is that several of the buyers
have multiple choices to choose from. Many competitors are offered discounts and gifts in order
to attract buyers. Another reason is online shopping. It has increased the bargaining power of
buyers. Buyers are price sensitive and demand very high quality. e.Power of suppliers: The
bargaining power of suppliers is low. Television manufacturers represent big contracts for suppliers.
They are forced to cut their prices. Many manufacturers are starting to produce their own
components in house. This was they have on costs and time of

Belonging Of A Sisterhood Of Arms
Belonging to a Sisterhood of Arms
Despite having been involved in the military since the American Revolution, women are most
often overlooked as being a soldier. While many people think it is respectful to go up and thank a
person for their service and duties in the military, most often they insult women by not
acknowledging them as a soldier, because society still sees military personnel as a male based
society. There is a fallacy to this stigma.
Almost anyone can point out a man who is in the service, whether or not he is in uniform.
Although it may not be easy to tell that I was a soldier in one point in time. The main reason is, is
because I am a woman. There are not many physical attributes for a female that gives any tell tale
signs like a person would see with a male member with his high and thigh hair cut and freshly
shaven face. The only sure way to know that I was a soldier is if I had said so, or if I was seen
wearing one of my uniforms with my hair tied neatly in a low bun; however when I am in my
civys (military term for civilian clothes), it s almost impossible to tell unless one is very
observant in human behaviors. Another way to tell how a woman may be a military member is
how we talk; we usually use military jargon such as female/male , using the NATO alphabet,
FUBAR (F*** Up Beyond All Recognition) , and many others we may find reasons to use in our
civilian lives but can only find a military term to express how we feel about it.
Another way we can be

Literary Devices In Middlemarch
In Middlemarch, George Eliot utilizes several literary devices to portray her two characters and
their complex relationship that reveals their marriage is dominated by the husband who objectifies
his wife into silence. Throughout the passage, Eliot makes it clear that Rosamond and Tertius
Lydgate are in an uneven relationship, considering Tertius refuses to listen to his wifewho seems to
only have his best interest at heart, yet still, he continues to yell at her for thinking she knows
what is best for him. With the help of details, Tertius s critical tone, and imagery, Eliot is able to
showcase how complex their relationship is when it comes to Rosamond giving her opinions and
ideas, just to be casted to the side. In several parts of the passage, Eliot hints that Rosamond loves
her husband, however, is constantly disciplined by Tertius when she speaks up on his actions. With
her selection of details, it exemplifies the complexities of the couple s marriageand how as a
newlywed, their life together is only just beginning, yet already, Rosamond is getting cold feet.
This is asserted when it states, the thought in her mind was that if she had known how Lydgate
would behave, she would never have married him (77 79). Eliot explains how Rosamond is
doubting Tertius s lovefor her, considering the fact he is always making her feel inferior to him.

Forensic Entomology Procedures
Summarizing a Forensic Journal article: Forensic Entomology Procedures
The field of Forensic Entomology is essentially a type of scientific study of utilizing insects and
arthropods for a criminal investigation. These small creatures are very useful to forensic
professionals, because they are naturally attracted to decomposing bodies. The bugs might even
lay eggs in the corpse. By examining the insects and their maturing larval stages, modern forensic
experts can assess the postmortem indications, and detect any changes in the dead body, leading to
evidence of the likely cause of death. Forensic entomologists are very often called upon to assist
cops in crime scene investigations. Because of this, police and investigators should be mindful of
the many potential benefits that this field of forensic entomology has to offer them. It can be used as
an accessory to standard methods of forensic crime scene investigation.

MNEs have specific expectations for each of its foreign subsidiaries, cooperative ventures and other

positions where it decides that the good of the whole is more important than the subsidiary s short

Peter The Great Absolute Monarchy
Tristan Maracha Mr. McKinney Global 10 December 18, 2014 Peter the Great What is an
absolute monarch? This is a form of government in which the ruling monarch has absolute power
amongst the people. The royal government is dominant and ruling over its own aristocrats and all
of the other authorities. Basically, in absolutism, there are no other powers that can hold more
ground than the monarchy itself. There are many absolute monarchs that are present in our
society and even to this day, However, I firmly believe that Peter the Great is the epitome of the
various absolute monarchs who ruled from 1682 1725. Prior to Peter the Great, Russia was

Breast Cancer And Cancer Awareness Essay

1) Criteria for Comparison Cancer that starts in the tissues of the breast is known as breast

related deaths among women. One woman in fourteen will contract breast cancer during her
lifetime and one in twenty one will die of it (Fallowfield, Clark 1991). The national breast cancer
awareness is vastly known throughout the entire month of October in the United States. The goal of
the campaign is to bring attention to breast cancer throughout the entire month, help women get
educated, and raise awareness. The awareness campaigns offers the perfect opportunity to
briefly review what breast awareness means, and how to promote it in primary care (Edwards,

The Structure of a Financial Crisis Essay
The Structure of a Financial Crisis
INTRODUCTION
The year 2001 had been unlucky for Turkey. Apart from the crisis in 1994 and November 2000, the
country had to face another financial crisis, causing problems in the management of its economy.
Why does a country delve deep into financial crisis? What are the possible immediate triggers for
both the current and potential new crises? What precautions should be taken for the key issues like
the fragility of the financial and banking system, belated reforms and privatisation, rampant
corruption, exchange rate policy? And how can the governments satisfy the markets and people to
undertake these reforms?

However, unlike the Transition Economies, Turkey embarked on a prospective plan to privatise a
major part of the public sector in the mid 80 s and laws enacting and enabling the privatisation of
the State Owned Enterprises (SOE) in late 1985, was an important breakthrough. In the 1990 s
privatisation went ahead but caused disappointment in many sectors. Most privatised firms could
not improve their performance and some that succeeded, had been profitable already as SOEs. But
that was not the only problem the country had to face. Turkey had already begun to face significant
problems regarding the Privatisation Policy in the 1990 s. These mentioned problems not only
aroused from the aggregate demand concerning the SOE, and the negative effect of investment but
the ongoing debate carried by the opposing political parties in the Parliament.
The governments have overcome several difficulties and successfully resumed privatisation in the
beginning of the second decade. Though the outcome was promising, the program proceeded more
slowly than the original plan. In 1993 for example, a net revenue of US$ 543 millions was raised
through several privatised firms including two electric companies, two communications equipment
manufacturers, a supermarket chain and four cement factories. In 1994 a total of approximately
US$ 412 million was

Did you know that the most successful of these Internet marketers all share certain essential keys

The truth if the matter is these successful folk will tell you that by making mistakes they learn even
more, much faster and are able to figure out how not to make the same mistakes again, then they
pass that knowledge on to others. They develop the mindset that to fail is to learn faster.
Key to Success #4
They have excellent time management skills. Successful online marketing depends on making the
most effective usage of the time you have. The successful Internet marketer maps out a work day
that is the heaviest with necessary tasks to be completed in the morning. That way it opens up the
rest of the day for other important activities like sharing quality time with family and friends.
For those who have to still work a regular job to support themselves while their Internet business
takes off they will make time in to complete 10 minute tasks and longer through out the day, time
when they know they won t be distracted (early in the morning before work, or late at night).
Key to Success #5
They are able to maintain a clear focus. Successful folks in Internet marketing are typically
individuals who give full attention to one activity at a time. If they re up against an activity that
can t be finished in one session, they ll split it up into smaller steps to enable them to focus on one
action at a time so that they can complete each one before starting the next.

The Suburban Public School District Essay
Summary of the Case The Suburban Public School District (SPS) is a relatively small district.
The student population has a total of about 11,000 students divided between six elementary
schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. Diversity is not a problem, since the
community represents more than twenty five countries around the world. However, the change
readiness of all stakeholders will be tested due to the district administrators decision of
transforming the foreign language curriculum. From four foreign languages, only English and
Spanish will be instructed within a two years period. This change has created the necessity of re
training or let go educators due to need of a reduction in force (RIF). Nevertheless, the SPS relies
on a big and well structured administrative team who successfully supports every school. The
students of the SPS are committed to their success. Evidence of the academic achievement is that
around 80% of the SPS graduate students pursue a higher education certification or career. There is
one public university, one private university, and one junior college within the community.
Additionally, few technological companies are settling in the zone, which rises the need of skilled
workers. These companies are ready to help the SPS in their task of preparing students with the
technological skills needed for those future jobs. All schools in SPS passed the state tests. However,
they had identified a challenge. The students

Mesopotamia in Greek means between two rivers. Mesopotamia was located between the Tigris
and Euphrates rivers in the Fertile Crescent region. I think that a complex society emerged in
Mesopotamia because Mesopotamia is between two rivers. That would provide the civilization
with food, transportation and trade. According to the World History volume I, the Tigris and the
Euphrates rivers supplied water and food because of the violent floods (Wallech et al., 2013, p.

animals on land would go to the rivers for water. The rivers provided fresh water for farming and

Increasing Number of Female Athletes
Sport participation is a significant aspect of life for many female athletes beginning at a young age.
With increasing female sport participation, specifically in swimming, understanding the possible
implications of their chosen form of training is critical. Over years of training, an athlete generally
becomes more elite and focused in one specific sporthowever the timing of when they choose to do
so determines their chosen training pattern. The two most common forms of training are high
intensity single sport participationand that of multiple sports with less time dedicated in one
particular activity. With the current research showing female swimmers to start training at the age
of 10 (Malina, 2010), well before typical maturity, evaluating the long term impacts is necessary.
While data sport participation prior to menarche is not convincingly seen to impact growth and
maturation (Malina, 2010), the impacts it may have on injuries is yet to be seen. Injury patterns
have also been previously studied with female collegiate swimmers and the most common areas of
injury are in the shoulder/upper arm and the back/neck (Wolf, 2009). However, in this study,
intensity of training either currently or in the past was not also examined.
Combining all of these facets: sport specialization, age at menarche, and their possible relationship
to injuries has yet to be done. In this paper, first the current research in these areas individually be

Nitrogen Essay
Nitrogen
Nitrogen, symbol N, gaseous element that makes up the largest portion of the earth s atmosphere.
The atomic number of nitrogen is 7. Nitrogen is in group 15 (or Va) of the periodic table.
Nitrogen was discovered by the British physician Daniel
Rutherford in 1772 and recognized as an elemental gas by the French chemist, Antoine Laurent
Lavoiser about
1776.
Nitrogen is a colorless, odorless tasteless, nontoxic gas. It can be condensed into a colorless liquid,
which can be compressed into a colorless, crystalline solid.
Nitrogen exists in two natural forms, and four radioactive forms (artificial). Nitrogen melts at
210.01 degrees C, ( 349.02 F), boils at 195.79 C

Nitrogen compresses about 4/5ths by volume of the atmosphere.
Nitrogen is inert and serves as a diluent for oxygen in burning and respiration processes. It is an
important element in plant nutrition; certain bacteria in the soil convert atmospheric nitrogen into
a form, such as nitrate, that can be absorbed by plants, a process called nitrogen fixation. Nitrogen
in the form of protein is an important constituent of animal tissue. The element occurs in the
combined state in minerals, of which saltpeter (KNO ) and Chile saltpeter (NaNO ) are
commercially important products.
Nitrogen combines with other elements only at very high temperatures of pressures. It is converted
to an active form by passing through an electronic discharge at low pressure. The nitrogen so
produced is very active, combining with alkali metals to form azides; with the vapor of zinc,
mercury cadmium, and arsenic to form nitrides; and with many hydrocarbons to form hydrocyanic
acid and cyanides, also known as nitriles. Activated nitrogen returns to ordinary nitrogen in about
one minute.
In the combined state nitrogen takes part in many reactions; it forms so many compounds that a
systematic scheme of compounds containing nitrogen in place of oxygen was created by the
American chemist Edward Franklin. In compounds nitrogen exists in all the valence states between
3 and +5.

The Issue of Overfishing
In contemporary society, human society is progressing rapidly on various fronts. Nevertheless at
the same time, the problem of overfishing is becoming increasingly worrisome and attract extensive
attention of the society. In this essay, I will address overfishing and propose some possible causes
of this phenomenon which can give contribution to some solutions. Introduction
This issue of overfishing covers vast fields, such as science, humanity, economy, society and nature.
The term optimum , in regard to the yield from a fishery, is difficult to be defined, precisely and
fixedly. Generally speaking, we can describe it as follows: (Niles E. Stople, January 2009, FishNet
USA)
Will provide maximum effectiveness benefit to the Nation, particularly in relation to food
production and recreational opportunities, and giving consideration to the protection of marine
ecosystems
In case of an overfished fishery, provides for reconstructing to a level consistent with producing the
maximum sustainable yield in such fishery
Overfishing s status as the focus of public concern mainly results from its negligible but harmful
influence on individuals, collective, and even the whole world. One of the world s significant
fishery in the East China Sea is damage by overfishing and growing levels of contamination, recent
research has shown, confirming the fear of fishermen and environmentalists. (Xinhua on GOV, Lu

Abstraction Is An Old Story With The Philosophers
Abstraction is an old story with the philosophers, but it has been like a new toy in the hands of
the artists of our day. Why can t we have any one quality of poetry we choose by itself? We can
have in thought. Then it will go hard if we can t in practice. Our lives for it.
Granted no one but a humanist much cares how sound a poem is if it is only a sound. The sound
is the gold in the ore. Then we will have the sound out alone and dispense with the inessential. We
do till we make the discovery that the object in writing poetry is to make all poems sound as

Granted again that it has an equal claim with sound to being a poem s better half. If it is a wild
tune, it is a Poem. Our problem then is, as modern abstractionists, to have the wildness pure; to
be wild with nothing to be wild about. We bring up as aberrationists, giving way to undirected
associations and kicking ourselves from one chance suggestion to another in all directions as of a
hot afternoon in the life of a grasshopper. Theme alone can steady us down. just as the first
mystery was how a poem could have a tune in such a straightness as metre, so the second mystery
is how a poem can have wildness and at the same time a subject that shall be fulfilled.
It should be of the pleasure of a poem itself to tell how it can. The figure a poem makes. It begins
in delight and ends in wisdom. The figure is the same as for love. No one can really hold that the
ecstasy should be static and stand still in one place. It begins in delight, it inclines to the impulse,
it assumes direction with the first line laid down, it runs a course of lucky events, and ends in a
clarification of life not necessarily a great clarification, such as sects and cults are founded on, but
in a momentary stay against confusion. It has denouement. It has an outcome that though
unforeseen was predestined from the first image of the original mood and indeed from the very
mood. It is but a trick poem and no poem at all if the best of it was thought of first and saved for
the last. It

Chromatin Case Study Essay

making a strategic pivot present for an entrepreneurial company? The decision to pivot from a
biotechnology company to a more vertically integrated seed company was likely one of the most
important decisions in the history of Chromatin. By inserting itself into the multi billion dollar
market for sorghum, the company vastly increased its potential for profit. However, the leaders of
Chromatin certainly did not take the decision likely. As Prof. Copenhaver outlined in his January 14
lecture, a vast number of factors needed to be taken into account before transitioning into
Chromatin s current business model. In the case of scientific ventures, operating as part of a
university offers an array of benefits: they can rely on its well maintained laboratories, its legal and
bureaucratic expertise, and its established relationships with insurers, bankers, and licensing
agencies. However, in order to use these services, scientific entrepreneurs must give a portion of

How Parent s Religious Affiliation Affects the Way
Parenting methods have been affected by numerous factors over the years. Parenting is something
that is obviously successful or in the worst case, has failed miserably! We found that the parents
religious affiliation affects the way they raise their children. The particular theologies theory posits
that different religious affiliations put varying efforts into emphasizing family formation strategies
(Pearce 2002: 325). Religious affiliations, inspired parents to be fervent on implanting strong

Furthermore, discipline doesn t always have to be punishing a child; sometimes it is simply
instructing and guiding them as to what choices to make, so that they don t have to be disciplined
when they find themselves at a crossroad and they end up on a road that isn t very beneficial. If
parents focus on making their children knowledgeable on the `space between places in social
relations not on individuals or families or particular institutions, but on the space where these
important social bodies intersect, they will help their children avoid bad decisions (Schweigert
1999: 170). Conservative Protestant parenting literature suggests that training children in the virtues
of obedience is the first step toward their worldly success and eternal salvation, while neglect of
this gradual obedience training may ultimately result in the burden of failed parenting, and it also
will have detrimental affects on the children. One issue that could be researched further is how the
global values of obedience and autonomy may hold divergent meanings for different segments of the

Essay on Conscience of Queen Gertrude in Shakespeare s...
The Conscience of the Queen William Shakespeare s play Hamlet is perhaps one of his most
intriguing and scandalous pieces of work. One character who is liable for much of this excitement
and outrage is Hamlet s mother, Queen Gertrude. To some readers and critics, Gertrude is
conceived as an erratic, superficial and sensual woman. Others discern the Queen as an earnest,
intellectual and sagacious woman whose tragic fault is her yearning for sexual satisfaction.
Throughout the text, there are several legitimate arguments for both sides, but in the end, Hamlet
seems to sum up the Queen s true persona with the words Frailty, thy name is woman . Evidence of

Hamlet s conflict with Gertrude is a main part of this play. A few characters in this play give
insight on Gertrude that point in the direction of her being shallow and evil. One example is late
in the first act when Hamlet cries O most pernicious woman! O villain, villain, smiling, dammed
villain! This is when, deep in thought, Hamlet realizes that his mother could have possibly
taken part in his father s death and he thinks she s evil. In Hamlet s head, everything makes sense
now because it is now understandable how she got over the death so quickly. This is the first
time that Hamlet realizes his mother s true character. This is a very imperative notion about
Gertrude s personality because for her very own son to think a validation like this is extreme.
Often times a man will love and defend his mother until the day he dies, while Hamlet, on the
other hand, is thinking of her playing a role in his father s death. When the ghost speaks of
Gertrude s speedy marriage, it provides more evidence of her shallowness. The King s ghost says
that she is seeming virtuous . He is basically saying that while she looks holy and righteous, she isn

think and wonder our time outs good or bad? Is there really a right or wrong way to give a time
out? Will this be the next big debate?
A little girl just ran through her house covered in mud and broke her mother s favorite lamp. What
is a mother to do? Well when children are growing up and being raised reinforcers and punishments

So have you ever wondered timeouts a good thing or a bad thing? Why is it a good thing to give
a child a time out? Well according to researchers Tera L. Wolf T. F. McLaughlin and Randy Lee
Williams of Gonzaga University (2006, Vol 21 No.3), state that the use of time outs are very
acceptable when dealing with children s behaviors because it is just that a behavioral technique
that is used to decrease the frequency of a certain behavior, and it was found to be the most
effective for behaviors that are maintained either by attention or tangible reinforcers, which we are
know are well known factors in a classroom setting.
There are even ways for parents and teachers to work to make sure timeouts run effectively.

Conservation And Environmental Conservation
The ultimate aspiration of the conservation movement was to empower society to proficiently and
effectively utilize its natural resources. Since the founding of the United States, Americans have
become dependent upon the existence of raw materials. With the further western expansion, and the
increasing population, nonrenewable resources such as oil and coal were in high demand. Although
there was a sudden increase in the demand for these resources, the supply of the resource stayed
constant. Specifically, conservation highlighted the new idea behind environmentalism, the concern
for maintaining the environment. The popularity of conservation came from individuals newfound
focus on the environment, as the western frontier had officially been closed. This was due in part to
Theodore Rooseveltand Gifford Pinchot s philosophies and mandates, which spearheaded efforts to
have Americans view their use and abuse of their environment differently, and their resulting
benefits.
The practice of conservationism was a heavily contested topic during the time of Theodore
Roosevelt s presidency. As the 26th President of the United Statesof America, Roosevelt enacted
the Square Deal, which was a policy where he had complete control of corporations, the ability to
protect consumers, and the need to conserve natural resources. He initiated The Desert Land Act,
which gave the federal government the authority to sell arid land at a low price, if the customer
agreed to irrigate and cultivate

Cultural Appropriation Of The United States
It has become one of the leading issues especially in the United States in the past few years. In the
world today, many people are witless as to what is cultural appropriation. Cultural appropriation
defines as when one culture adopts an element of another culture. (Uwujaren 9/30/13) When it
comes to Cultural appropriation a lot of the South Asian cultureget appropriated. Being a South
Asian myself I feel obligated to let people know.
There are many examples of cultural appropriation today, such as henna tattoos, bindi s, sports team
names, and even clothes. These cultures or traditions have become a fad for people, especially in
America. People who are within the culture tend to get offended when their culture is made into a
fad. There are many arguments in newspapers, blogs, and articles that are against cultural
appropriation. I, myself have come upon many posts on Tumblr.com that have to do with Cultural
appropriation. Huffingtompost.com also has multiple articles on the subject.
One of the cultures that has been appropriated is Henna. Henna tattoos also known as mehndi have
become a sort of fashion in America for the past year. One can get henna tattoos applied anywhere
at any time. Yet the majority of Americans who go to carnivals, theme parks, and rodeos have no
idea where henna originates from and what it is actually meant for. Henna tattoos originated from
subcontinent India before Pakistan. (Parmer 11/13) It is meant to be put on during happy occasions

Bartleby The Scrivener Response
Bartleby, the Scrivener by Herman Melville is a story about an office worker, Bartleby, who
decides that he doesn t feel like working anymore. I can relate to that and I know, I m not the
only one. We all have those days where we just don t feel like working any harder than we have
to. Your boss walks up to you, and asked you to do something, and you think silently in your
head, I would prefer not to . Not all of have to courage to say so, but Bartleby did, and even had
the audacity to continue to show up at the office every day after that.I know for a fact, that if I
said that to my boss, and didn t have a reason why, I would surely be fired. But not Bartleby s boss,
whom the story is told through. Bartleby s refusal intrigues the old man.... Show more content on

The description of the office is extremely bleak. On one side, the windows open onto a light
shaft, and on the other, the windows look out onto a brick wall. The landscape of Wall Street is
isolated and completely cut off from nature. It is dull and cheerless, just like Bartleby. His
coworker are not the most productive, but together they get the job done. Nippers, who is about
twenty five years old, grinds his teeth, and frequently stops to readjust the height of his work
table. But despite is fidgetiness, Nipper is a good worker. Well dress and neat, unlike Turkey.
His hair is short and gray. He is a good copyist, until afternoon when he becomes reckless, and
messy like the clothes he wears. Then there is Ginger Nut, the twelve year old office errand boy.
He does odd jobs, and buys cakes for the copyists. The narrator believes that this odd bunch
balances each other out. Rather than becoming upset over the faults of both men, the narrator
appreciates the work which the men accomplish during their times of productivity. Bartleby was
hired in hopes how pushing the rest of the group to do better and unfortunately the exacted
opposite happened. When the other heard Bartleby s refusals and saw how he was getting away
with it, they started to use the phrase I would prefer not to as

Lowering The Bourbon Supply Chain Is A Shortage Of Barrels
Anyone familiar with the alcohol industry knows that bourbon is urging at the moment. Production
has steadily increased over the past 15 years and there seems to be no sign of it slowing in the near
future. However, this does not mean that the bourbon industry has maximized the potential of its
supply chain (Lariviere, 2015).
One significant risk impacting the bourbon supply chain is a shortage of barrels. There is a federal
law requiring that for a whiskey to be called bourbon it must age for two full years in a new oak
barrel. One would think that this law would cause an issue in that the supply of lumber to create
the barrels was not sufficient. That, however, is not the case. The actual issue at hand is that there
is a shortage of loggers. While the bourbon industry is urging at the moment and it does create
significant revenue for the lumber industry, that alone is not sufficient to keep logging companies
in business. Thus, a lack of loggers has resulted in a reduction in the amount of new oak barrels
available for aging bourbon (Lariviere, 2015)..
Another potential risk that could significantly impact the bourbon industry is climate change.
Climate change has the potential to severely alter weather patterns that are vital for the process of
aging bourbon. Barrel expansion and contraction is dependent on the changing of the seasons.
Barrels are rotated throughout warehouses as the seasons change. This process helps to successfully
mature the bourbon. If significant

The English colonies played a major role in progressing the history of the world as well as the
national stature of the British who held at being one of the most dominant powers. These colonies
established in the New World were not all created for the same reasons hence the initial separation
with the only connection coming from past history that intertwined with Europe and eventually
from providing raw materials to the Mother Country (Europe). This initial separation explains the
individualistic mentality that runs across all colonies. Ranging from religious discrepancies to

Meaning it pertains to a colony specifically which is expected because at this point in time,
colonies were still in their stage of self protecting. The Mayflower Compact of 1620 was the
governing set of laws for Plymouth Colony written by the Separatists/Congregationalists who
wanted to separate from the Anglican church in England. The reason for these laws was very
simple and straightforward because after observing some not well affected unity and concord but
some appearance of faction the officials thought it best for all to come together and for a central
governing body to be enacted that would maintain order and enact the laws in the name of God as
religion at this time played a heavy role in governmental policies to a certain extent (Document 1).
This is similar to the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut enacted in 1639. According to their
religious beliefs, God required that peace, order, and union be established and maintained which is
what they did. The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut states that the Word of God requires that, to
maintain the peace and union of such a people, there should be an orderly and decent government
established according to God, to order and dispose of the affairs of the people (Document 2). Both
these approaches share many similarities in the fact that unity was created via a centralized internal
government with a single ruling body. In addition, religious beliefs heavily dictated the form of

Direct Democracy Vs. Representative Democracy
Democracy is a system of government in which the utmost influence is consigned in the individuals
and implemented directly by them or by their designated representatives under a free voting
arrangement. According to my research direct democracy also known as pure democracy is when
all the individuals come together and make decisions by voting. They are the one who decide the
regulation and guidelines through which the people will oversee. In contrast a representative
democracyis when the population designate leaders who makes judgements on their behalf. There
are many differences between a direct and a representative democracyand some of them are that in a
direct democracy the public have authority and are responsible for decision making

  • 2. The Evolution Of Punishment And Its Effect On Society Introduction The evolution of punishment has come a long way in Canada from Confederation in the 1800 s to present day 21st century. Research has been going on continuously to identify whether these punishments are based on a person s behaviour or on society itself. The word punishment is referred to as a penalty inflicted on an offender through judicial procedure ( Punishment | Definition of Punishment by Merriam Webster ). In today s society does the punishment equivalent to the crime committed by an offender? Therefore, how much punishment should one receive based on their offence? It is a conflicting matter that has brought the government and the public into speculation on the judicial system from time to time. Punishment is a philosophy, which states many years back when someone was seen committing wrongdoings they were punished by cutting off their heads or hanging them. During the evolution it used to be an eye for an eye, if you killed me, I went after your family as revenge. The days have changed, where now they have introduced the Canadian Bill of laws, to help with the punishment of offenders. Now capital punishment is punishments that result in death penalties for people who have committed capital crimes, and offences. It is viewed around the world as something different. For example, in certain parts of the world people do not believe in punishment, whereby in some parts they do believe and take very extreme measures. In parts of the world such as India, ... Changes in Accounting standard Accounting standards offers standard ways of recognising, measuring and presenting financial transactions. Any change in standards will affect the reporting of an enterprise and its comparison of results over a number of years. Impact of seasons on trading As stated above, the financial statements are based on year end results which may not be true reflection of results year round. Businesses which are affected by seasons can choose the best time to produce financial statements so as to show better results. For example, a tobacco growing company will be able to show good results if accounts are produced in the selling season. This time the business will have good inventory levels, receivables and bank balances will be at its highest. While as in planting seasons the company will have a lot of liabilities through the purchase of farm inputs, low cash balances and even nil receivables. Inter firm comparison Different financial and business risk profile No two companies are the same, even when they are competitors in the same industry or market. Using ratios to compare one company with another could provide misleading information. Businesses may be within the same industry but having different financial and business risk. Federalism plays an integral part in the growth and development of the United States of America and is a key factor in determining the basis of power in this country. Clearly, the term federalism can be understood in many different ways pertaining to each person s view, but it can be more broadly defined in terms of the separation between the state and federal government. Thomas E. Patterson defines federalismas, the division of sovereignty, or ultimate governing authority, between a national government and regional (that is, state) governments. Each directly governs the people and derives its authority from them (Patterson 74). He then goes on to give a more basic definition with, American Federalism is basically a system of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These powers provide the federal and the state governments with their role in the function of federalism. Further, Article VI gives the dominant rule of law to the federal government over the states rights in case there is ever a misunderstanding. The Framers of the Constitution were worried that providing such a narrow definition would result in the government being unable to adapt to change (Patterson 78). Thus, the implied powers are stated in the Constitution under Article I, Section 8, Clause 18 better known as the Necessary and Proper Clause, and gives Congress the power to make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers. This clause allows Congress to adapt to change and implement laws which are necessary given the time. The remaining powers are then given to the states by the Tenth Amendment. Federalism outlined in the Constitution allows for a separation of powers and provides specifics for each level, which ultimately allows for a more balanced form of government. It has been more than 200 years since the Constitution was formulated and federalism has been through many different interpretations throughout the years. Dual federalism was outlined by a strict line between federal and state with no room for misinterpretation. You either had the power, or you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For this reason, the Whigs favored the spread of banks, passing of tariffs, and new transportation projects. The Whigs also believed that they could promote social progress by allowing the government to have control of society through regulations and reforms such as the prohibition of alcohol and the prohibition of business activities on Sundays. The Whigs also aimed to make society better through the building of hospitals, insane asylums, and public schools. Whig philosophies revolved around strengthening the economy and creating a progressive society. Despite having a strong presence in America, the Whig Party s influence on the government and economy never surpassed the impact of the Democratic Party. Throughout most of the presidencies during the 19th century, the Democrats dominated the campaign. The Democrats executed many of their aspirations leaving a long lasting ... • 6. Summary Of Made In America By Kilibrand Kirsten Gillibrand presents herself as a person who wants to get her point across and someone that is serious about their job. She always has a goal and tries to work toward that goal to achieve and make things better for the community. Kirsten does a lot of campaign ads to get her point across and to ensure the people that she is trying her best to help them. Her campaign ads are usually videos she uses so help get a point across. One of the campaign ads I saw was a video called Made in America . In this video, Kirsten talked about where she was from and how she knows what the people is going through so it is her job to help fix the situation. In the video, she showed her family and expressed that upstate New Yorkis where they call home so she sympathizes with the people on the point. Also, she starts to talk about the economic priorities taxes so she tried to fix things by making giving a property tax relief, she wrote an upstate job bill, and she voted to end tax breaks. These are all the things the people were looking for as a start to fix the economy in upstate New York.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When you go to her website one of the first things you see is a paragraph about what she plans to do to help fix the state. When looking at that paragraph you should be able to see that she listed her number one priority is rebuilding the economy. This was a good comparison because unlike many legislatures you usually see their ads and websites not matching up with things they have said but Gillibrand s is spot on and I can see that she is serious about her job and she wants to help fix what has been ... • 7. The Importance of Color in Toni Morrison s Beloved Essay The Importance of Color in Toni Morrison s Beloved Toni Morrison s Beloved a novel that addresses the cruelties that result from slavery. Morrison depicts the African American s quest for a new life while showing the difficult task of escaping the past. The African American simply wants to claim freedom and create a sense of community. In Beloved, the characters suffer not from slavery itself, but as a result of slavery that is to say the pain occurs as they reconstruct themselves, their families, and their communities only after the devastation of slavery (Kubitschek 115). Throughout the novel, Morrison utilizes color as a symbolic tool to represent a free, safe, happy life as well as involvement in community and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his journey North, Paul D would scan the horizon for a flash of pink or white...[or] blossoming plums (Morrison 113). By having Paul D search for colorful flowers, Morrison illustrates Paul D s desire for a life full of safety, enjoyment, and freedom. Just as Paul D desires a better life after slavery, so does Baby Suggs. As a slave, Suggs was suppressed and did not experience the type of life she desired. Morrison indirectly demonstrates this by purposely leaving out any descriptions of color in Suggs s life when she was a slave. Morrison uses this absence of color to express that Suggs had lived the life which she had longed for. She did not experience independence, freedom, safety nor a sense of community when she was a slave. However, after she was sold, she searched for color, or the life that she had wanted. For, she had never had time to see, let alone enjoy it before (Morrison 201). Enjoying every color that she could, trying to compensate for the time wasted as a slave, Suggs retreated to her room and concentrated on color. It took her a long time to finish with blue, then yellow then green (Morrison 201). Making explicit the absence of color while Suggs was a slave and then describing the way she relished the colors of her newly acquired freedom, Morrison conveys Suggs s fulfillment of the life she had longed to have when she was a slave. Finally, as her life ended, Suggs was happy with the freedom, sense of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Men wanted seductive women that would cater to their every wish, but they also wanted virginal women to be their little housewives. In 18th century literature, women often fell into the men s traps and succumbed to seduction. After they fell though, they would have to be punished in order to prevent women of the time period reading these stories from thinking they had too much power. One of the most powerful weapons a womanhad over a man was her sexuality. One can see an example of two of these women in Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Tourvel did not give in to Valmont due to pleasure; she felt she was sacrificing her happiness for his. When Valmont is convinced by Merteuil to end their affair, Tourvel ran away to a convent (Les Liaisons Dangereuses 317). She not only lost her chastity with Valmont, but she also lost her faith. Tourvel had committed wholeheartedly to loving and saving Valmont, and he basically threw her to the side. The letter that Valmont sent her written by Merteuil stated repeatedly that it was not his fault (Les Liaisons Dangereuses 315). She felt there was no other way to repent for her adultery other than to die. She believed that she was doing God s work by converting Valmont, but, when he left her, she lost the faith that what she was doing was God s work. She said many times that she should have trusted her friends and stayed true to her husband, but she was blinded by the need to help Valmont. Even though her punishment was self inflicted, she was still punished. Since her fall was much greater, the author made her punishment more severe. As many doctors could tell, there was no physical virus plaguing her. The only thing wrong with Tourvel was her want to punish herself with pain, suffering, and death. Until the bitter end, Tourvel wanted to still save Valmont. When she learns of his death, she prays for God to punish her and spare him (Les Liaisons Dangereuses 353). • 9. Key Implications Of The Solow Model The Solow model is widely considered to be the standard neoclassical economic growth model which serves as the basis for understanding economic growth. I will first introduce the two basic equations that the Solow model is built around, discussing the main assumptions made along the way. I will then present the key equation of the Solow model and discuss its results and implications. I will then address why it is desirable to use log linearization, and how it can be used to study the dynamics near the steady state. We will then briefly look into the empirical results of Mankiw et al. (1992) and what they mean for the Solow model. We begin with the aggregate production function of the model. Let us denote output (Y), capital (K), labour (L) and the index of productive efficiency (A). The production function can then be written as: Y=F(K,AL) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Belonging Of A Sisterhood Of Arms Belonging to a Sisterhood of Arms Despite having been involved in the military since the American Revolution, women are most often overlooked as being a soldier. While many people think it is respectful to go up and thank a person for their service and duties in the military, most often they insult women by not acknowledging them as a soldier, because society still sees military personnel as a male based society. There is a fallacy to this stigma. Almost anyone can point out a man who is in the service, whether or not he is in uniform. Although it may not be easy to tell that I was a soldier in one point in time. The main reason is, is because I am a woman. These small creatures are very useful to forensic professionals, because they are naturally attracted to decomposing bodies. The bugs might even lay eggs in the corpse. By examining the insects and their maturing larval stages, modern forensic experts can assess the postmortem indications, and detect any changes in the dead body, leading to evidence of the likely cause of death. The student population has a total of about 11,000 students divided between six elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. Diversity is not a problem, since the community represents more than twenty five countries around the world. However, the change readiness of all stakeholders will be tested due to the district administrators decision of transforming the foreign language curriculum. From four foreign languages, only English and Spanish will be instructed within a two years period. This change has created the necessity of re training or let go educators due to need of a reduction in force (RIF). Nevertheless, the SPS relies on a big and well structured administrative team who successfully supports every school. The students of the SPS are committed to their success. Evidence of the academic achievement is that around 80% of the SPS graduate students pursue a higher education certification or career. There is one public university, one private university, and one junior college within the community. Additionally, few technological companies are settling in the zone, which rises the need of skilled workers. The two most common forms of training are high intensity single sport participationand that of multiple sports with less time dedicated in one particular activity. It is an important element in plant nutrition; certain bacteria in the soil convert atmospheric nitrogen into a form, such as nitrate, that can be absorbed by plants, a process called nitrogen fixation. Nitrogen in the form of protein is an important constituent of animal tissue. The element occurs in the combined state in minerals, of which saltpeter (KNO ) and Chile saltpeter (NaNO ) are commercially important products. Nitrogen combines with other elements only at very high temperatures of pressures. It is converted to an active form by passing through an electronic discharge at low pressure. The nitrogen so produced is very active, combining with alkali metals to form azides; with the vapor of zinc, mercury cadmium, and arsenic to form nitrides; and with many hydrocarbons to form hydrocyanic acid and cyanides, also known as nitriles. Activated nitrogen returns to ordinary nitrogen in about one minute. In the combined state nitrogen takes part in many reactions; it forms so many compounds that a systematic scheme of compounds containing nitrogen in place of oxygen was created by the American chemist Edward Franklin. Nevertheless at the same time, the problem of overfishing is becoming increasingly worrisome and attract extensive attention of the society. In this essay, I will address overfishing and propose some possible causes of this phenomenon which can give contribution to some solutions. Introduction This issue of overfishing covers vast fields, such as science, humanity, economy, society and nature. The term optimum , in regard to the yield from a fishery, is difficult to be defined, precisely and fixedly. Generally speaking, we can describe it as follows: (Niles E. One of the world s significant fishery in the East China Sea is damage by overfishing and growing levels of contamination, recent research has shown, confirming the fear of fishermen and environmentalists. The decision to pivot from a biotechnology company to a more vertically integrated seed company was likely one of the most important decisions in the history of Chromatin. By inserting itself into the multi billion dollar market for sorghum, the company vastly increased its potential for profit. However, the leaders of Chromatin certainly did not take the decision likely. As Prof. Copenhaver outlined in his January 14 lecture, a vast number of factors needed to be taken into account before transitioning into Chromatin s current business model. In the case of scientific ventures, operating as part of a university offers an array of benefits: they can rely on its well maintained laboratories, its legal and bureaucratic expertise, and its established relationships with insurers, bankers, and licensing agencies. • 44. Lowering The Bourbon Supply Chain Is A Shortage Of Barrels Anyone familiar with the alcohol industry knows that bourbon is urging at the moment. Production has steadily increased over the past 15 years and there seems to be no sign of it slowing in the near future. However, this does not mean that the bourbon industry has maximized the potential of its supply chain (Lariviere, 2015). One significant risk impacting the bourbon supply chain is a shortage of barrels. There is a federal law requiring that for a whiskey to be called bourbon it must age for two full years in a new oak barrel. One would think that this law would cause an issue in that the supply of lumber to create the barrels was not sufficient. That, however, is not the case. The actual issue at hand is that there is a shortage of loggers. While the bourbon industry is urging at the moment and it does create significant revenue for the lumber industry, that alone is not sufficient to keep logging companies in business. Thus, a lack of loggers has resulted in a reduction in the amount of new oak barrels available for aging bourbon (Lariviere, 2015).. Another potential risk that could significantly impact the bourbon industry is climate change. Climate change has the potential to severely alter weather patterns that are vital for the process of aging bourbon. Barrel expansion and contraction is dependent on the changing of the seasons.
