The Declaration Of Independence From Great Britain
In 1776, the United States continental congress ratified the Declaration of Independence from
Great Britain. Following the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of
Confederation, the next few years displayed a great amount of progression for the protection of the
American citizen by implementing the United States Constitution. The first three articles of the
Constitution focused on the division of power between the President and Congress, which
comprised of the House of Representatives and Senate. Since the Constitution s establishment, the
issue of who has what certain war powers has maintained in the spotlight. The Constitution is
notoriously misunderstood because of how many ways the document can be interpreted... Show

415). In 1973 Congress adopted the War Powers Resolution in attempt to rein the President in and
consult with Congress when it came to taking any action when introducing troops to hostile regions.
There have been a number of President s who have used their executive power to move U.S. troops
into countries of a hostile nature that were of no immediate threat to the U.S. homeland. President
Wilson sent troops to Vera Cruz during the Mexican Revolution, President Carter sent aid in the
form of helicopters to hostages in Iran, and President Clinton bombed both Iraq and Serbia (Currie,
Pg. 41). Most of those actions leaned towards more of a humanitarian effort, rather than a deliberate
attack on U.S. national security.
The current U.S. President, Barack Obama, has continued this humanitarian and moral trend with
the use of U.S. military force in Libya and Syria. However, both events are very much different in
seeking the approval or consultation by Congress given their political context. In 2011, Libyan
leader Muammar Gaddafi, had come under the international spotlight as a major threat to the
citizens of Libya. Given Libya s location centered amongst several Arab states, there was much at
stake for U.S. interest. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United Nations also
backed the U.S. and other NATO allies military

Outsourcing Public Policy Essay
This week we are discussing public policy issues faced in the world today. Our reading for this
week defines public policy as a goal oriented course of action that the government follows in
dealing with a problem or issue in the country (ushistory.gov). Many policies are created based on
the needs of the American people. Although policies are created with the best interest of Americans
in mind sometimes the policymight not work out as well as initially intended. One such policy that I
feel has the potential to have a negative effect is outsourcing.
Outsourcing is simply obtaining goods or services from an outside supplier in place of an inside
source. A great example of this is how our medical center has to outsource patients to other
facilities for procedures that we are not equipped to handle. This type of outsourcing is positive
because the patient gets the best care available, the base establishes ... Show more content on

I understand that there are some industries where this cannot be avoided, but if you look at
consumable materials today you will be hard pressed to find something actually made in America.
In my opinion this country was built on the backs of coal miners and factory workers but today we
ve outsourced almost everything drastically decreasing the job market and making it difficult for
fellow Americans to find employment. Other than the outsourcing of jobs abroad America has also
hurt itself with outsourcing in the federal government. The rise of the government s do more with
less mentality is stretched the military and other government offices very thin. To combat the
decline in manning the military has outsourced many jobs to civilian contract agencies. For each
contactor hired the military loses two bodies. True the job is getting done but the strain being
placed on the members is being felt as deployments continue to leave units undermanned as they try
to continue the mission with less

Organization And Structure Is Essential For All Group...
Organization and structure is essential in all group settings. How rigid and how formal that
structure is, can be reliant upon the type of organization. A large government agency or a
corporation will evidently have several layers of management and will have an authoritative
expression and direction for and of its members. Even minor groups, a family unit for instance,
have a need to have a precise statement of individual responsibilityand overall goals, while also
maintaining an authoritative structure of headship. The triumph of each organization, in spite of
the size, is utterly reliant on the efficiency of the leadership, the eagerness and ability for each
member to work collectively, and the capacity of the group to solve all... Show more content on

Wage hours are also unswervingly effected by productivity. If each member of the organization has
high productivity output then it will take fewer wage hours, to achieve the volumes necessary, than
the budget originally accounts for. However there can also be negative effects from high
productivity levels. For example, the quicker a team works the more latent the possibility for
inefficiencies and injuries to occur. This can in reality counteract any of the financial gains
achieved from the higher productivity of the team by having to insert additional wage hours in
order to repair quality control issues as well as the additional costs related to expected lost work
hours. The objective now becomes how to increase productivity and perhaps profitability, all the
while restricting the potential for those negative side effects to take place.
Your DC is one of the larger DCs I have had the honor to assess and I am extremely grateful for
the opportunity. On the flipside though, larger groups can moreover harbor bigger overlooked or
even hidden problems. From my calculations your DC has approximately several hundred hourly
employees, twenty five immediate supervisors and six senior executives spread amongst six
separate operational departments. The department structure within the DC is of very good quality,
and on a superficial level, it encourages the success of each department by combining like functions
together.

The Regression Model Of The United States
First of all, I would like to mention that it is more reasonable to compare the models that are based
on the same data, so I tried to use the same variables and the same missing value treatment
approach (excluding decision tree) to all of the models.
All the 3 models showed a performance of nearly the same quality, according to the various lift
charts produced and presented in the further parts of the report.
However, the difference becomes more evident on the % captured response and the most efficient
and useful model turns out to be the logistic regression model.
It is described in a greater detail in part 4 of this report.
This ROC plot indicates that the logistic regression is also efficient in terms of trade off between ...

2.Recommended Model Decision Tree
The recommended decision tree model includes 2 variables : annual income and loans, both of
them are interval variables and represent the original observations. They were chosen for the final
model, because after several trials, they proved to be the key ones in determining the rules within
decision trees.
In terms of missing values, nothing particular had to be done, because decision trees conveniently
handle missing values by default.
As for the splitting criterion, after getting more knowledge about each of the criteria and
performing numerous trials , Gini was chosen, due to its ability to measure the differences between
the values of a frequency distribution.
Presented below is the model assessment graph that represents the misclassification rates at each
number of leaves.
As can be seen from the graph, the model enables to reduce the difference between the training and
actual sets compared to other situations when different settings were used and different variables
included.
Another indicator of this model s usefulness is the lift value graph. The base line represents the
nonexistence of our prediction model, while the intercept of the red line states that with this
decision tree we can identify 3,7% more bad customers than we would have done without it.

Longboarding Research Paper
Longboarding. Should it really be a crime? In some cities in the United States, Longboarding has
been banned on specific roads Dangerous sports have always been a tremendous interest to a
large percentage of the human population. The intensity of fast paced dangerous sports such as
longboarding joined with healthy rivalry and a competitive nature seems to make people more
impassioned when it comes to sports like these. Some are of the opinion that the risk involved in
sports like longboarding is far too overwhelming for participating in these sports to be justified.
Some go so far as to say that longboarding, individually should be outlawed. I am of the opinion
that while longboarding is a very dangerous sport, those that already do it are not going to stop just

A thane line is a line left on the asphalt from sliding. These are completely harmless and come off

damaging as sidewalk chalk. I m sure there are solutions to this problem but for the time being
this is a big problem for longboarding being illegal . this dresses longboarding up to by
vandalism in and of itself We must differentiate the skateboarding and longboarding styles.
Skateboarding is associated with the misconduct of vandalism, such as grinding rails. This is not
the case with a longboard. Street style skate causes much more damage than longboarding. One
main point that is often brought up by police is that urethane lines (left by sliding longboards)
leave marks on the road that are considered vandalism but as stated before, are about as damaging
as sidewalk chalk. however street style skateboards grind on benches, chip concrete and damages
stair rails. Because of this since a longboard is technically a skateboard both longboards and
skateboards suffer the consequences of

Marijuana Has A Negative Effect On Your Health
I believe that cannabis has a negative effect on your health. Now I m fully aware that a portion of
the world s population truly believe that cannabis is nothing more than a harmless drug that is used
for nothing more than recreational use and will not have any long term effects on your health, but I
want you to ponder on the thought of my statement and why I might believe that cannabishas a
negative effect on your health. First what is cannabis? according to drugs.com cannabis also known
as Cannabis sativa, is a species of the Cannabaceae family plants and contains the chemical
compound THC (delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol), which is believed to be responsible for most of
the characteristics psychoactive effects of cannabis. Furthermore, what is health? according to
Merriam Webster health is the condition of being well or free from disease . Now if you just
read the two definitions of cannabis and health you can see why someone would want to further
research this issue just based on the wording alone, in the definition cannabis is says the plant can
cause psychoactive effects and in the definition of health it states free from disease but if one is
using cannabis that can cause these effects it would be impossible to truly be free from disease
which lies the major problem and gets to the root of my thought process and why I believe that
cannabis has a negative effect on your health. To elaborate more on the factors that contributed to
me believing that cannabis has a

Conversion Therapy And Its Effects On The Lgbtq Community
About 30 years ago, homosexuality was declassified as a mental disorder. It would be assumed that
treatments for to change homosexuality would end. However, conversion therapy is still being
used today, even our future Vice President, Mike Pence, believes in such treatment. That alone is a
huge threat to people of the LGBTQ+ community.
Conversion therapy is affecting the LGBTQ+ community greatly. Conversion therapy can be
defined as psychological interventions, from behavioral methods to psychoanalytic approaches to
change a person s sexuality or gender identity (Hadelman, pg. 202, 2002). This treatment has been
proven to not work as well as having harmful implications to LGBTQ+ people. In 1960, the

NARTH heavily relies on the support of Southern Baptist, Mormon, Roman Catholic, and other
religious organizations to promote conversion of homosexuality (Baxter, pg. 1, 2015).
Love in Action, which was one of the first religious based organizations to participate in
conversion therapy, was founded in 1973. By 1976, Exodus, a national coalition of ex gay
ministries was founded. There were hundreds of participates over the years and most went back to
homosexual life.
Interestingly enough, ex gay ministries do not keep statistics on the success of their work.
However, outside observers founded that at least two thirds of those in such groups give up within
two years, and that over seventy five percent of ex gay organizations fail within five years (Baxter,
pg. 2, 2015).
There are also no peer reviewed articles that display any kind of success with conversion therapy.
Even the cases that ex gay ministries consider a person cure is when that person is asexual and
refrains from any sexual encounters. This in turn is only a change in behavior, not sexual orientation
. Giving ex gay ministries any type of push forward is
Most practitioners reject the idea of conversion therapy. However, there are still medical and health

Fitness For Tennis Research Paper
INTRODUCTION
This paper will be analysing and critiquing a training program designed specifically for pre season
fitness for tennis. Tennis is a sport that requires May different fitness components but the four main
abilities needed to be a successful tennis player include agility, flexibility, speed and musclepower.
These four components are extremely important in tennis, agility is obviously important for a
tennis player as they need to be able to move and change directions around the court quickly and
efficiently, flexibility enables the player to slide and reach for the ball without straining or injuring
muscles, speed is important to the tennis player as they will undoubtedly need to quickly chase
down wide balls hit by the opponent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The programme also utilises the principle of progressive overload, this can be seen in the plan
after week 3 the sets all increase as do most of the repetitions and the frequency increases adding
one extra day in addition to the previously stated overload and progression techniques which will
ensure that the player continues to develop and enhance their athletic ability. Finally the program
does a great job of keeping the frequency of training consistent and as stated in the last sentence.
The programme also has specific days that cater to developing each section of the body which
allows for the previously worked section to recover, while also preventing any injury to the muscle
group by not over exerting one muscle group. To conclude this programme is good for developing
the important fitness components needed for tennis, the only problem I can see with the
programme are created by the restrictions of this

Laws In Antigone By Sophocles
Throughout the play of Antigone as seen in Sophocles by Robert Fables, there are various
instances displaying the importance of the laws of the gods versus the laws of the people for
the character, Antigone. She often chose to obey the godly laws more so than those made by
man, Creon in particular. Antigone prioritized godly laws over manly laws in regards to her
own living and decision making, thus setting an example for us all if for the common good.
Antigone stated that she will stand by her choices no matter the consequences or circumstances if
it meant she was obeying the laws of the gods. As it says on page 82 lines 509 511, These laws I

Court Trial Essay
The criminal trials I attended at the Boone County Courthouse where very interesting because it
was not the first time ever being in a courthouse and courtroom. I have seen some courtrooms
through videos of trials or pictures from high profile cases such as the shooter in Colorado who
opened fire in a movie theater during Batman in 2012 and I have been to a small courthouse in
Calvert County Maryland. The difference between these two courtrooms was the size and number
of people present. At the Boone County Courthouse the room was small and had a large amount of
people ready to see the Judge. Some of the people present included: the Bailiff, who did his job by
making sure everyone had a seat, was situated and quiet during the court... Show more content on

This sentencing was in response to the multiple times this gentleman was charged with the same
crime.
The difference between the Bonne County court and the Calvert County court is the size and
how quickly cases where moved through the system. In the Calvert County courtroom I sat and
watched the cases where processed slow and meticulous even the requests for a change of date
moved slowly. While in attendance in Calvert County I heard the judge ask how defendants
mothers or families where and even postpone court dates or sentencing so farmers could bring
crops in or so people could attend family functions. Even the sentencing was odd back home
people could get sentenced to just weekends or even just nights in jail I heard one sentence
where someone had to spend every weekend in jail for the next year, which I thought was
strange but the judge said after the sentence that it was to keep the farms working. In Boone
County the courtroom seemed more formal and less personal than a small town. The judge only
cared for the rule of law and not about family matters or the occupation of the defendant and this
is the way a judge should act in my opinion. The personal approach that judges take in Calvert
County compared to Boone County is more influential than an impersonal approach because
people do not want to be seen as just a number. A friend of mine who saw his day in court in
Calvert County said that the judge was very friendly and

The Effects Of Digital Distractions On The College Classroom
Digital distractions are affecting the college classroom in many ways. First, let us establish what
a digital distraction is. By definition to be distracted is having one s thoughts or attention drawn
away: unable to concentrate or give attention to something (Distracted). To be digitally distracted
is to just add technology to that. Digital distractions range from texting and driving to checking
one s phone when socializing with other people. These two examples are very noticeable in today
s society. People are being injured and are dying at an alarming rate from compulsively using their
smartphones while driving (Greenfield). People are also losing the social skill required to
communicate face to face (The Negative Impacts of Social Media on Face to Face Interactions).
Digital distractions occur continually in the college setting and affect students in and outside of the
classroom. A common, if not the most common, means of digital distractionis a smartphone. They
allow access to the internet and social media, such as Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
With access to these, students can easily be distracted from their work in class. When a student is
texting, it not only disrupts their learning experience, but it disrupts others as well. Allowing a
student to bring a personal computer into class is another problem. The student could be working
on their class work and taking notes, or they are just browsing the internet, playing games, checking
social media,

This book was based on the events that took place after the American Revolution. It discussed about
how the lives and relationship of the founding fathers of this nation influenced and resolved their
differences in opinions in shaping the course of this nation. There was clear explanation in the
preface, The Generation, on the author s part of his main intention in writing this book. His main
objective was to delve into the relationship of the most important historical people of the

Descartes Mind And The Body
Descartes argues for mind body dualism in his Meditations on First Philosophy and Discourse on
Method. Descartes s arguments attempt to prove that the mind and the body are two distinct
substances. He argues that human existence is solely based on thought and not the existence of a
physical body. He also shows the difference between the mindand body by identifying them as
extended and non extended things. His arguments give rise to the philosophical problems of how
we can come to know other people s minds and how we can be sure if animals have minds.
Descartes solves these problems by establishing clear and distinct ideas from mental inspection

By doing this he will only know things he is certain of. The basis of doubt is how Descartes finds
his first principle of philosophy, I think, therefore I am (Method 18). Descartes deduces that the fact
that he is able to doubt that he doesn t have a body actually proves his existence because this doubt
requires thought, I was a substance the whole essence or nature of which is simply to think, and
which, in order to exist, has no need of any place nor depends on any material thing. (Method 18

and that he can t be sure it s physical because it could be based on a lie or

Alcohol Advertising Essay
Alcohol Advertising
Millions of Americans suffers from the effects of alcohol and drug abuse. It can shatter lives,
brake families, and to rob people of their dreams for the future. Once alcoholism or drug addiction
begins, an individual s problems not only don t go away, but their mental well being as well as
physical ability continues to diminish from the immediate and long term adverse effects from the
drugs and alcohol abuse. Is it really true that advertising increases alcohol consumption, which
increases alcohol abuse? No it is not. No solid evidence from either scientific research or practical

This is how young people view them. If one treats beverage alcohol as a dangerous substance to
be avoided and not even advertised, he or she inadvertently can raise it up from the ordinary into
the range of the powerful, the tantalizing, and the desirable Big Deal. (Hanson, 1997). In so doing,
we slip into the familiar, failed pattern of demonizing the substance of alcohol rather than
discouraging irresponsible behavior.
Alcohol addiction is a very serious and life threatening illness. Everything can get ruined in one s
life. The life cycle of alcohol addiction begins with a problem, discomfort or some for of
emotional or physical pain a person is experiencing and becomes difficult to deal with. At some
point alcohol or drug enters the picture and provides a temporary, synthetic relief, and for a
moment it seems to act as a solution to the problem. Alcohol addiction can be overcome and the
individual can return to leading a happy, healthy, productive and responsible life once again. Often
people drink during social occasions; it tends to loosen inhibitors.
Unfortunately, the recklessness often is the result of excessive drinking and is a leading cause of
serious injuries and accidental deaths. In addition, alcohol is the most common cause of
preventable birth defects that include fatal alcohol syndrome. The effects of alcohol abuse can be
short term and long term. Short term effects of alcohol use include: altered

Essay about Covenant and Promise
COVENANT AND PROMISE
BERITH = Hebrew word for covenant
Berith is found in the earliest records in the Bible and is fundamental to Hebrew religion. In Latin it

The Old Testament and the New Testaments means the old and the new covenants. A covenant is a
promise.
Chesed = Hebrew word for the attitude of loyalty and faithfulness which both parties should

The Mosaic Covenant
On Mt Sinai a two sided covenant is sealed. This is a unique moment and crucial for understanding
Jewish attitude to the Laws in the Torah.
Exodus 19:5, IF YOU WILL OBEY MY VOICE AND KEEP MY COVENANT, YOU SHALL BE
MY OWN POSSESSION AMONG ALL PEOPLES; FOR ALL THE WORLD IS MINE, AND

Israel agrees to this and becomes Yahweh s people. But the covenant is understood as conditional
on obedience to the laws of the covenant.
Abraham was obedient to the word of God, but now the word of God is written down and fixed,
for all generations.
These events made the Jews into a people with a unique identity, bound to each other, to God and to

he compromised computers solely by using passwords and codes acquired as a result of social

The Pros And Cons Of The Belize Guatemala Territorial Dispute
Belize Guatemala Territorial Dispute Should we agree on taking the Belize Guatemala territorial
dispute to the ICJ? The international Court of Justice commonly known as the World Court. It is
the central judicial branch of the United Nations, where the Court s role is to resolve legal disputes
and to give consultative opinions on legal questions (International court of Justice). The Belize
Guatemalaterritorial dispute is an unresolved bi national territorial dispute between both
countries, neighbours in Central America. Guatemala has been claiming Belize territory in
whole or in part since 1940. Belize is an independent country that is rich in resources, and this is
why more than ever Guatemala is claiming Belize s territory; therefore history has been made
for many centuries regarding this issue and if it is agreed in going to the ICJ there would most
likely be some advantages and disadvantage, but still there are Belizeans that agree on going to
the ICJ while others opposed from going. This few Belizeans that agree on going to the ICJ have
their own opinions regarding this issue, and they share their opinions and reasons that makes them
think that going to the ICJ would be the best decision that a Belizean can undertake. Moreover there

Differences Between Canadian Football And American Football
American vs. Canadian Football
American and Canadian football have many differences but are also very alike. They have the
same roots of play because they are of course both football. The reason they have some differences
are that they are played in different countries. American and Canadian footballhave a few different
concepts that make them different from each other. The first differenceis the field goals. The field
goals are placed in the front side of each endzone as American football has the goal posts in the
back side. The endzones are also ten yards deeper in Canada than in America. Not just the size of
the endzones are different but the whole field in general is different. A Canadian football field is
110 yards long and 65 yards wide. An American field is 100 yards long and 53 yards wide which
is much smaller than a Canadian field. The stadiums in Canada are also much smaller due to less
funding and not having as many fans as American football. American football also has different
teams and team colors which make the stadiums look nothing alike (What). ... Show more content

Sherlock The Abominable Bride Analysis
The third trailer for Sherlock: The Abominable Bride is a mere forty three seconds with only the
first thirty five seconds actually showing clips from the episode, yet the trailer is fraught with
layers of rhetoric. The trailer can be found on the YouTube channel Sherlock and was published
December 12th, 2015. Sherlock: The Abominable Bride was an episode released in between
seasons three and four and directed by Douglas Mackinnon. The trailer itself is much too short to
inform the viewer of what transpires in the episode, rather, it is a compilation of scenes that pose a
question and give a promise.
The first thing one notices when watching the trailer is the use of space and dimensions. There are
primarily two types of spaces used in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sherlock does this in two ways. The first by posing a question and the second offering a promise.
As previously stated, the trailer crafts a question by creating a contradiction that the question is
based on. The question is the strongest persuasive technique used by the trailer. The second
technique is a promise. Within less than a minute, the trailer makes two promises. The first one
is a promise of humor. There are ten pieces of dialogue within the trailer. Four of those are used
to make just one joke. Sherlock says, to the morgue! There s not a moment to lose. Which one
can so rarely say of a morgue. The joke is placed almost directly in the middle of the trailer. For
most of the trailer the atmosphere is dark and intense, yet for six seconds in the middle of the
trailer, the atmosphere shifts suddenly. The joke seems to be a complete outlier. It does not
follow the intensity of the rest of the trailer. The only practical reason that the joke is there must
be to give promise. The trailer promises that although the episode will be intense, there will also be
lighter, funnier moments. The second promise is a little less obvious. It goes hand and hand with
the question. The promise is that the question will be answered. To do this the trailer poses little
questions, such as who is hiding? by using confined spaces. The trailer then answers the question
by showing and saying the avenging ghost and the bride. So when the trailer leaves viewers with an
unanswered question, they believe that the episode will answer it because they have been trained
by the trailer to believe so. The trailer also says that Sherlock will give the answers, which is ever
so softly implied by the way Sherlock says things. To illustrate, he says I know it can t and to the
morgue, there s not a moment to lose. Sherlock makes these statements with a voice of knowledge
and control. He gives viewers a

Lab Report On The Heat Of Neutralization
Introduction: Every chemical change is accompanied by a change in energy usually in the form of
heat. If heat is evolved, the reaction is exothermic, and if heat is absorbed, the reaction is
endothermic. The energy change of a reaction that occurs at constant pressure is called the heat of
reaction or the enthalpyof reaction (О”Hr). This quantity of heat is measured experimentally by
allowing the reaction to occur in a calorimeter. In this experiment you will determine the heat of
neutralization when an acidand a base react to form 1 mole of water. In a perfect calorimeter, heat is
exchanged only between the reaction and the calorimeters water. Technically, some heat may may
be absorbed the calorimeter. All calorimeters exchange some heat with its environment. This
amount of heat is called the calorimeters heat capacity (the amount of of heat required to raise its
temperature 1в€ Celsius). We are going to pretend that our calorimeter is the perfect calorimeter.
Purpose: You will determine the molar heat of neutralization of 1.00 M HCL and 1.00 M NaOH in
Kilojoules.
Materials:
Goggles Graduated cylinder Drying wand Calorimeter Acid and base Thermometer Beaker to
transfer liquids Paper cups
Procedure:
Carefully measure 75 of 1.0 M NaOH in a 100 ml graduated cylinder and pour it into the
calorimeter. Leaving the thermometer out, place the top on the calorimeter. Rinse the graduated
cylinder with some tap water. Then rinse the graduated cylinder with some about 10.0 ml of the
1.0 M HCl. Completely dry the graduated cylinder with a paper towel drying wand. Carefully
measure 6.25 ml of the 1.0 M HCl. Leaving the HCl in the graduated cylinder measure the initial
temperature of acid. 27.8в€ C Rinse the thermometer with tap water and dry. Insert the
thermometer in the calorimeters top and measure the initial temperature of the base 28.2в€ C
Carefully add all of the acid to the base in the calorimeter being careful not to splash any acid on
the upper sides of the calorimeter. Stir the mixture gently with the thermometer observing the
temperature every 15 seconds for the next 2 minutes. Seconds: 15s: 31, 30s: 31, 45s:31, 60s:31,

Compassion In Thank You, MaAm By Langston Hughes
Compassionate people are geniuses in the art of living, more necessary to the dignity, security, and
joy of humanity than the discoveries of knowledge. Albert Einstein
Everyone has difficulties and tragedies in life, some more than others. Though when people show
compassion, it makes your spirits rise and make your challenges more bearable. In the short story,
Thank you, Ma am by Langston Hughes, Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, a woman whose
purse has been an attempted target by a boy, shows the theme of compassion with an
overflowing amount of it. The boy, Roger, learns throughout the story that compassion is very
important, and his true personality is revealed by some woman he doesn t even know. At the
beginning of Thank you, Ma am, we see how just how compassionate Mrs. Jones really is. The
moment she meets Roger, she tells the boy to wash his face. Least I can do is wash your face.
Are you hungry? This might not seem like a very compassionate thing to do at first, however,
she doesn t even know the boy, yet she has enough compassion to make sure he is clean. Then,
she takes the boy inside of her house! In addition, the boy, Roger asks, You going to take me to
jail? But Mrs. Jones doesn t. Maybe she sees that Roger is really a good boy inside, so she shows
compassion to bring out his true kindness. This makes me think that he was probably trying to
steal because he had to. And when Mrs. Jones asked him if he had anyone at home, he said, No m.

The Effects Of The Unification Of Germany And Germany
United
I m going to talk about the unification of Germany and Italy and how these two places went about
unification and how that affected Europe. Also, I m going to compare and contrast the effects that
these two places unifying had on Europe. Before the French revolution both Italy and Germany
were divided into many states, Germany was divided way more than Italy with more than three
hundred states which had to have been harder to unite. Many people don t know about the
unification of Germany and Italy occurred or know that Germany had to do many things to
achieve unification and ultimately start a war and use other wars to work towards the goal of
unification. Now looking at Italy in 1866 Italy signed a pact with Prussia promising support if
Prussia went to war with Austria. Prussia promised to get Venetia for Italy. Eventually several
months later, war between Prussia and Austria did happen. Austria was defeated by Prussia in the
Austro Prussian War. In the peace settlement, Prussia awarded Italy with Venice and the other
surrounding territories. They made Florence the capital of Italy. Wherefore Germany went to war
three times to achieve unification. The World Book encyclopedia says that for hundreds of years
Germany lived in separate states, one of the most powerful was the kingdom of Prussia. During the
late 1800 s, Otto Con Bismarck, the prime minister of Prussia, united most of these states and cities
under Prussian leadership. After Bismarck, German leaders tried

Jane Austen s writings are stories like ones that have happened in her life. In Ms. Austen s words
she once stated, It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good
fortune, must be in want of a wife, (Bruno Introduction). She even traveled when writing, she would
visit family and friends when writing so she could grasp the lives over others not in her

that endeared heartbreak, problems, and discrimination which has helped shape her books and

Ruby Moon By Matt Cameron
Ruby Moon by Matt Cameron
The Artslink Queensland production of Ruby Moon by Matt Cameron can be described as an
example of the Australian Gothic dramatic style. Ruby Moon, set in picture perfect Flaming Tree
Grove, is about the tragic dilemma of a couple, Ray and Sylvie, trying to cope with the earlier
disappearance of their young daughter, Ruby, while on the way to visit her grandmother at the end
of the cul de sac (Queensland Education, 2014).
Matt Cameron s, Ruby Moon, is an award winning contemporary Australian playwright and
screenwriter based in Melbourne which depicts a uniquely Australian landscape; employing the
conventions of the Australian Gothic Theatrical style (Queensland TheatreCompany, 2009). In the
production of Ruby Moon, the stage setting creates dramatic meaning and purpose. Ruby Moon
is set in an Australian suburban town in picture perfect Flaming Tree Grove where Ray and
Sylvie s daughter, Ruby, disappears on her way to visit her grandma at the end of the cul de sac
(HCS, 2014). The intimacy and secrecy of the Flaming Tree Grove community and its lack of
safety adds to the supernatural and paranormal intrusions of Australian Gothic Theatre. The Ruby
Moon production was fuelled and inspired by fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Snow
White, Hansel and Gretel, and Alice in Wonderland, and also newspaper headings and stories about
families and their missing children scattered around the world. Matt Cameron s purpose of the

The Effects Of Trade Limitations On The United States...
For years the United States has been an active participant in enforcing trade barriers on imported
goods. To some U.S. trade barriers are viewed as a way of benefiting domestic production, as well
as a way to generate government revenue. However, protectionism often leads to damaging
consequences for both domestic manufacturers as well as the American people. Economists, such
as Gregory Mankiw, would argue that trade barriers are not only inefficient, but create negative
externalities by increasing the social cost to society (Mankiew). This paper looks at both historic
and current examples of how the inefficiency of U.S. trade restrictions harm the social welfare of
American citizens.

The Voluntary Restraint Agreement caused the price of steel to increase dramatically during the
late 1980 s, resulting in a twenty percent increase between January 1988 and March 1989 (Seebald,
1991). With a binding price floor on foreign imports, domestic steel manufacturers took advantage
of the market by increasing the price of steel.
The increase in domestic steel prices first hurt the domestic steel consumer manufacturers and
would later contribute to the decline in social welfare for many workers of steel consuming sectors.
While the U.S. steel company s flourished, the domestic steel consuming firms struggled. In regards
to the economics of Reagan s VRA s, Demand for steel is now high, in part as a result of the surge
in American exports, but U.S. mills cannot meet the demand and imports are restricted under quota
(Richman, 1988). The shortage of U.S. produced steel hurt domestic consumer steel companies.
Benjamin H. Liebman s, a professor of economics, wrote about this topic at great length in his
article, Steel safeguards and the welfare of U.S. steel firms and downstream consumers of steel: a
shareholder wealth perspective. Liebman argues that Downstream consumers of steel are expected
to be negatively affected by the imposition of the steel safeguards. Safeguards, a form of trade
protection, may increase the price of steel and hence the production costs of downstream consumers

the importance of more grey matter linked to development as it includes sections of the brain used

God. Man and woman were created on the sixth day, named Adam and Eve, and placed in a
paradise like location on earth known as the Garden of Eden. God specifically prohibited them
from eating the fruit of a particular tree from the garden, referred to as the tree of knowledge.
Tempted by a serpent, they both ate the fruit and immediately became aware of human conditions,
such as being naked. When God discovered what they had done he banished them from the garden,
leaving the couple to

The Threat of Human Cloning Essay
The human genome is constructed of four simple chromosomes, each of which is represented by a
single capital letter; G, A, C, and T. These simple chemicals are the building blocks of life, and act
as the blueprints for one of the most complicated biological structures in the known universe; the
human. Strands of these chromosomes billions of letters long provide a uniqueness that guarantees
individuality in a swiftly growing world. Is not individuality after all one of the most highly
acclaimed American ideals? Does it not compose the backbone of freedom, our country s founding
doctrine? It most assuredly does, and individuality therefore, is one of the most integral parts of
humansociety. The importance of this ideal dictates that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cloning cannot be tolerated in society anywhere, not because of the ramifications on the individual
countries and their cultures, but more importantly because of the mental state that a clone would
inevitably have to cope with. The ability to clone humans is in essence the ability to steal a piece
of someone s individuality, which we have already closely associated as being a prime evil. The
ancient philosopher Rene Descartes stated That in order to understand the passions of the soul its
functions must be distinguished from those of the body (Hallman, 40). That is, the soul and body
must have distinctions, and this I agree with for the sake of understanding the mechanics and
interactions of the two. However after this has been established the line must be drawn.
George Johnson, believes that each person, whether they be a clone or not, should understandably
have his own soul created by the composition of previous thoughts and experiences (Nussbaum,
Sunstein 69). The example we are provided with references the unique nature of twins. According
to this reasoning, twins grow up together, composed of the same genetic makeup, but because of
personal experiences result in different persons (69). If this truly is the case then cloning does not
accomplish what it is intended for in the first place. Likewise he argues, clones who share exact
genome matches will also become different people as a

Apocalypse Now By Francis Ford Coppola
In Francis Ford Coppola s, Apocalypse Now (1979), you follow the journey of Captain Benjamin
L. Willard, as he makes his way up the Nung River on a US Navy patrol boat in Vietnam to
assassinate Colonel Walter Kurtz. Coppola s film reflects the Vietnam war and all the horrors seen
and unseen associated with it. Specifically, the dissent into madness and the dehumanizing effects
of war. Coppola uses the river to symbolize this dissent into madness. The further up the river the
crew got, the more dehumanized they became. Even Coppola s choice of title Apocalypse Now
screams what this movie is about. This symbolism accompanied by perfectly paired music and
camera angles that often cast shadows strongly show the madness of war. Coppola expresses the
decline into insanity in stages. In this first stage, there is still have plenty of light and very few
shadows. This stage represents the dehumanization of the enemy and it is where we first meet
Lt. Colonel Bill Kilgore. Coppola perfectly pairs the song Ride of The Valkyries with a scene of
Kilgore flying in with helicopters and tearing up a village. As the song plays, we can see an
uneven match between the Americans and the natives. Just like a Valkyrie, Kilgore is seen as a
decider of who lives and who dies. This is further enforced by the fact that Kilgore is a part of the
Air Calvary. A division of the Army that was once known to ride around on horses, implying that
Lt. Colonel Bill Kilgore is one of the four horsemen of

The History of Special Education in the Twentith Century
During the twentieth century, drastic changes were made to vastly improve the special education
system to ensure that all students, regardless of their ability, were given equal rights according to
the Constitution of the United States. During early colonial America, schooling was not mandatory
and it was primarily given to the wealthy Anglo Saxon children (Carlson, p230). Children were
mainly taught in the home or in a single room schoolhouse. Therefore, children of limited mental
capability were not likely to be schooled. Also, in a non graded schoolhouse, children of differing
abilities did not pose problems. With the beginning of mandatory education in 1852 ... Show more

In these special classrooms, a specially trained teacher would provide the instruction. As ideal as
this might sound, it is hardly what did occur. The optimism of the educators to successfully teach
the disabled students faded during the 1930 s and the 1940 s. Special education classes were held
under horrible conditions. The rooms were insufficient, with limited resources, the teachers were
poorly trained and the curriculum was inadequate. Schools also often classified students as having
disabilities when they did not. Additionally, students were often labeled with one type disability
when they had another. This practice (misclassification) (Turnbull et al p16) was a common
discrimination in American schools. One might wonder why the conditions were so deplorable.
Why were the teachers so terribly unqualified? It appears that the common perception of the
disabled students was like that of Quasimodo, in Victor Hugo s The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
They were misunderstood, and considered to be monstrous something to be hidden away,
shunned and rejected by normal people. The public s attitude with disabled children was one of
fear, as if the disability was somehow contagious. They were looked upon as crazy people. This
general outlook set the standard for educating students with special needs. They were classified as
inferior, so why should the school system bother to work with the retards ? The mind set was that

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas
The purpose of this essay is to analyze one of the more popular and well known poems written by
Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night. The poem relates to the
shortness of life and the inevitability of death that should not be easily accepted, which was a
common theme for Dylan Thomas. This is ironic given the poet s early death from a drunken
binge in New York City while he was visiting the United States as part of a tour in which he recited
his poems to adoring fans.
Thomas powerful message is contained in the form of a villanelle. The villanelle is a highly
structured poem which makes use of a great deal of repetition in its standard nineteen lines. The
first five stanzas are tercets while the sixth and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Loss of one s faculties can make life seem unbearable but Thomas wants his father to focus on life
s positive aspects and not dwell on the negativity.
In the sixth and final stanza, Thomas speaks to his father directly, having finished his four
examples of men who fight death ( And you, my father, there on that sad height ). Thomas
implores his father on the precipice of death to speak ill or good, as long as it is done with
passion ( Curse, bless me know with your fierce tears, I pray ). The poet realizes passion may
stave off death. He also hopes his father might identify with the four types of men cited in the poem
as Thomas apparently viewed his father as an intelligent and decent, but very ill, free spirit.
Of course, Thomas message isn t meant only for his father. It is normal to have regrets late in
life. It is not uncommon for people to give up hope and look upon death as a welcome prospect.
Yet Thomas realizes that life is better than death, which is the ultimate destroyer of hope in this
life. The poet also reminds us to seize the day and make the most of whatever time we have.
The issue Thomas addresses in his poem can be a very difficult one which all of us may face at
some point. Choosing life over death can be especially difficult for the terminally ill. Their plight
can have a dramatic effect on family members and other loved ones who

A Rhetorical Analysis Of A Booklet
For the primary audience which may include the person struggling with obesity, the fitness trainer
that works to help the client stay healthy and in shape, and the dietitian who regulates and monitors
the patient s food intake a booklet would suffice. The booklet should be engaging for all groups no
matter their educational level. It should go into depth, so that the dietitian can accurately access the
problem s that the patient might be facing. It should also be something that the person who may
have obesity can comprehend because they might need something extra to push them towards the
right direction of a healthy lifestyle. The booklet might include some diet and exercise tips that the
patient can use in order to be healthy, if they don t have access to a dietitian or trainer.... Show more

populations entering into a university (Walker Test, 2011). As this number increases, more focus
is being placed on ensuring these students are successful. Self determination skills have played a
major part in the success of students with disabilities (Walker Test, 2011). A component of self
determination is self advocacy, which is defined by students taking care of their personal business

In order to evaluate and develop rehabilitation approaches for adolescents, one should consider
utilizing the perspectives of youth (Kramer, Barth, Livingston, O Neil, Smith, Vallier and Wolfe,
2013). Utilizing youth, with disabilities, in the creation and implementation phases of new
interventions could possible ensure other youth find the interventions pleasant and functional
(Kramer et. al, 2014). With this study, youth with LD assisted in the development of programs that
focuses on shifting youth recuperation from distinct impairment to social causes of disability
(Kramer et. al, 2014). Project TEAM (Teens making Environment and Activity Modifications) is
the name of the new training (Kramer et. al, 2014). Project TEAM consisted of six youth with
disabilities, a researcher and advocate. Project TEAM used a behavioral technique called the Game
Plan to allow youth with disabilities to determine environmental barriers, identify solutions, and
request accommodations. A youth panel, consisting of students with disabilities, was created to
assist Project TEAM and the researcher on the curriculum (Kramer et. al, 2014). With the
researcher giving the youth panel space and opportunity to share their voice, the researcher was
able to maintain valuable information regarding their perception of their disability (Kramer et. al,
2014). Members of the youth panel contributions assisted Project TEAM. The youth panel
participants designed tools to collect data, retrieved data, and analyzed data (Kramer et. al, 2014).
With the ability to be involved in all phases of the research process allowed students with
disabilities the opportunity to influence other researchers in the field of rehabilitation and any
potential Project TEAM member (Kramer et. al, 2014). Environmental and social influences
surrounding a disability can be influenced in the future by new approaches created by Project
TEAM (Kramer et. al,

Social Constructs And Its Effect On Society
From the beginning of recorded history, especially in nature, some form of racism and sexism
have existed. They may have no be referred by these terms but evidence exists in many forms.
Birth determinants like the sex (male/female) and gender (masculine/feminine) of a person are
used to determine the individual s appearance and behavior in a specific time and place. These
social constructs are ideologies that hold meaning to a concrete society because the society itself
renders them meaningful; they do not necessarily exist but are enforced upon the masses
disguised as a necessary norm. It serves a purpose; to solidify an idea that serves as a norm.

Unfair treatment of human beings is a crime against humanity because every person should have
the right to dress, talk, live, peruse what feels right for them and not being limited to what the
society propels as being the right thing to do. People fail to realize that there are being violated,
and unconsciously accept the violation as a norm. Two of the most notorious social constructs are
racial and sexual classification of human beings. People are treated with the utmost disrespect, are
ostracized and denied basic human rights/life chances such as education, housing, health care based
on their race, gender and sexual orientation. Karl Marx, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Michel
Foucault, Erving Goffman conjure up theories that sheds light on the fact that racial and sexual
classifications are social constructs set in place to ensure that the elite gets the power they desire.
The elite, a select group that holds superiority over others use social constructs as way to control
the masses and gain more power. They do so by relying on people s sense of knowledge and truth.
According to Foucault, a French philosopher and a social theorist, knowledge is power Foucault
uses the term power/knowledge to demonstrate the fact that power is built through acceptance of
some sort of knowledge, scientific understanding and truth (Foucault 1998). Eeach society has their
own sets of truths which they abide by; acceptance of that truth makes it powerful. The one who has

The Reduction Of 4 Tert ¬ -butylcyclohaxanone
In this experiment, the reduction of 4 tert¬ butylcyclohaxanone was performed using sodium
borohydride. To complete this reduction, 0.5010 g of 4 tert¬ butylcyclohaxanone was added to
6.0 mL of methanol and heated until the ketone dissolved completely. Next, 0.0510 g of sodium
borohydride was added to the solution. At this time, bubbles formed and an exothermic reaction
took place. After the solution was stirred for 20 minutes, 2 mL of sulfuric acid was added to the
flask. The solution became white and cloudy, and more bubbles formed. Immediately after the acid
was added, 5 mL of water was also put into the reaction flask. The solution was stirred for 10
minutes. During this time, a white solid formed. After this, the solution was... Show more content on

This was calculated by taking the mass of 4 tert¬ butylcyclohaxanol, dividing it by the theoretical
yield determined by mass of the limiting reagent, 4 tert¬ butylcyclohaxanone, and multiplying
by 100. This percent yield is respectable, but a higher one could have been obtained. A source of
error resulting in a lower percent yield was the filtering to remove the magnesium sulfate out of
the dried organic solution. When filtering, some of the liquid was absorbed into the filter paper,
prohibiting some of the product from being recovered. To prevent this loss, one should use a
pipet to recover the product from the magnesium sulfate. The product that was recovered during
this experiment, was spectroscopically analyzed, and a ratio of cis trans product was found. IR
and 1H NMR analysis was also performed for the starting ketone, 4 tert¬ butylcyclohaxanone.
The IR spectra, RM 07 Oi, contained peaks at 2947 cm 1, 2868 cm 1, 1720 cm 1, and 1365 cm 1.
These peaks represent a carbon hydrogen stretch, a sp3 hybridized carbon, a ketone and a ring
carbon carbon stretch, which are all present in 4 tert¬ butylcyclohaxanone. This confirms that the
initial ketone used was 4 tert¬ butylcyclohaxanone. The 1H NMR also proves this. Peaks found
at 2.34 ppm, 2.07 ppm, 1.45 ppm and 0.87 ppm show that only four chemical shifts occur in this
compound. There are not four types of hydrogens in this molecule, but some chemical environments
are similar resulting in only four

The Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith
Adam Smith s masterpiece writing, The Wealth of Nations, attempts to create a different
understanding of the economy from his age. The focus mainly remains on mercantilism the most
prevalent economic system for Western Society at this time. Smith s simple and in depth
explanations of even the most basic economic concepts allow for someone with little to no prior
knowledge of economicsto easily grasp his meaning, and coupling these explanations with real life
examples provides even more teaching power to Smith s words. The text is split up between five
different books of varying length covering the division of labor, capital, the progress of opulence,
the mercantile system, and the role of government.
The first book of The Wealth of Nations begins with discussions on the division of labor, which
Smith considers to be the greatest improvements for the productivity of labor. To illustrate his
point, Smith gives an example of the pin making industry as a case where division of labor does
not just increase productivity proportionally to how much the tasks have been split, but
exponentially. Smith explains that, a singular pin maker unknowledgable of most tasks required
in pin making could not make more than twenty pins in one day; whereas, ten pin makers each
taking over some portion of the process can make upwards of 48,000 pins in one day. In the same
way that the division of labor applies to pin making so too does it apply to all industries. Smith
goes on to give three

Snake Island Manipulation
Manipulation is the crux of fiction; the Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio are no different. The
manipulation in Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, specifically in the stories of Rouge and Snake
Island, occurs as characters manipulate each other. This manipulation follows societal classes, as
those othered by society manipulate the virtuous and elite, thus setting up a societal struggle
defined by manipulation. The marginalized and elite form classes of people, thus making this
societal struggle synonymous with a class struggle. Furthermore, through literary devices, including
sentence syntax and alliteration, the tales of Rouge and Snake Island celebrate Zhang, Prefect Wu,
and Commissioner Shi who either overcome the manipulation... Show more content on

When initially describing Big Mao, Pu says that Big Mao is disreputable character who had
already made several fruitless attempts to seduce Madame Wang, and a an unscrupulous rogue,
the worst kind of street thug, both of which directly assert that Big Mao is flawed character
(411, 418). In addition to the direct descriptor that proves he is disreputable, the author uses an
alliteration and lengthens the sentence to emphasize Big Mao s flaws. First, when initially
describing him, the author says there lived in the district a disreputable character, which
alliterates d to emphasize Big Mao s reputation (411). Also, in the same sentence, Pu Songling
introduces Big Mao by first describing where Big Mao lived and his nature and then awkwardly
adding that he goes by the name of Big Mao. (411) This strange sentence syntax stresses the
importance of Big Mao s nature which when coupled with the alliteration prove that Big Mao,
the other man who manipulates Rouge, is not virtuous; because Big Mao lacks virtue, he is
flawed character, and thus he differs from the societal norms and, when compared to Rouge, a
member of the lower class. Since, Rouge symbolizes the upper class and conflicts with Big Mao
and Su, who represent the lower class, Rouge also presents a class

Values-Based Leadership
Leadership Background
Values based leadership has a significant impact on the performance and the functioning of an
organization. Boje,(2000) cites Burn s (1978) theoretical work on transformational leadership
basing his argument on Kohlberg s moral development theory and Weber s (1947) theory of
leadership and authority. In his work, Boje, 2000 agrees with Burn s that a moral value based
leader, is the one who emphasizes social exchange between leader and follower in the form of the
psychological and mutual needs contract driven by charisma, individualized consideration,
intellectual stimulation and inspirational motivation.(Homrig, 2001)

  • 2. The Declaration Of Independence From Great Britain In 1776, the United States continental congress ratified the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. Following the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation, the next few years displayed a great amount of progression for the protection of the American citizen by implementing the United States Constitution. The first three articles of the Constitution focused on the division of power between the President and Congress, which comprised of the House of Representatives and Senate. Since the Constitution s establishment, the issue of who has what certain war powers has maintained in the spotlight. The Constitution is notoriously misunderstood because of how many ways the document can be interpreted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 415). In 1973 Congress adopted the War Powers Resolution in attempt to rein the President in and consult with Congress when it came to taking any action when introducing troops to hostile regions. There have been a number of President s who have used their executive power to move U.S. troops into countries of a hostile nature that were of no immediate threat to the U.S. homeland. President Wilson sent troops to Vera Cruz during the Mexican Revolution, President Carter sent aid in the form of helicopters to hostages in Iran, and President Clinton bombed both Iraq and Serbia (Currie, Pg. 41). Most of those actions leaned towards more of a humanitarian effort, rather than a deliberate attack on U.S. national security. The current U.S. President, Barack Obama, has continued this humanitarian and moral trend with the use of U.S. military force in Libya and Syria. However, both events are very much different in seeking the approval or consultation by Congress given their political context. In 2011, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, had come under the international spotlight as a major threat to the citizens of Libya. Given Libya s location centered amongst several Arab states, there was much at stake for U.S. interest. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United Nations also backed the U.S. and other NATO allies military ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Outsourcing Public Policy Essay This week we are discussing public policy issues faced in the world today. Our reading for this week defines public policy as a goal oriented course of action that the government follows in dealing with a problem or issue in the country (ushistory.gov). Many policies are created based on the needs of the American people. Although policies are created with the best interest of Americans in mind sometimes the policymight not work out as well as initially intended. One such policy that I feel has the potential to have a negative effect is outsourcing. Outsourcing is simply obtaining goods or services from an outside supplier in place of an inside source. A great example of this is how our medical center has to outsource patients to other facilities for procedures that we are not equipped to handle. This type of outsourcing is positive because the patient gets the best care available, the base establishes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I understand that there are some industries where this cannot be avoided, but if you look at consumable materials today you will be hard pressed to find something actually made in America. In my opinion this country was built on the backs of coal miners and factory workers but today we ve outsourced almost everything drastically decreasing the job market and making it difficult for fellow Americans to find employment. Other than the outsourcing of jobs abroad America has also hurt itself with outsourcing in the federal government. The rise of the government s do more with less mentality is stretched the military and other government offices very thin. To combat the decline in manning the military has outsourced many jobs to civilian contract agencies. For each contactor hired the military loses two bodies. True the job is getting done but the strain being placed on the members is being felt as deployments continue to leave units undermanned as they try to continue the mission with less ... • 4. Organization And Structure Is Essential For All Group... Organization and structure is essential in all group settings. How rigid and how formal that structure is, can be reliant upon the type of organization. A large government agency or a corporation will evidently have several layers of management and will have an authoritative expression and direction for and of its members. Even minor groups, a family unit for instance, have a need to have a precise statement of individual responsibilityand overall goals, while also maintaining an authoritative structure of headship. The triumph of each organization, in spite of the size, is utterly reliant on the efficiency of the leadership, the eagerness and ability for each member to work collectively, and the capacity of the group to solve all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wage hours are also unswervingly effected by productivity. If each member of the organization has high productivity output then it will take fewer wage hours, to achieve the volumes necessary, than the budget originally accounts for. However there can also be negative effects from high productivity levels. For example, the quicker a team works the more latent the possibility for inefficiencies and injuries to occur. This can in reality counteract any of the financial gains achieved from the higher productivity of the team by having to insert additional wage hours in order to repair quality control issues as well as the additional costs related to expected lost work hours. The objective now becomes how to increase productivity and perhaps profitability, all the while restricting the potential for those negative side effects to take place. Your DC is one of the larger DCs I have had the honor to assess and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity. On the flipside though, larger groups can moreover harbor bigger overlooked or even hidden problems. From my calculations your DC has approximately several hundred hourly employees, twenty five immediate supervisors and six senior executives spread amongst six separate operational departments. The department structure within the DC is of very good quality, and on a superficial level, it encourages the success of each department by combining like functions together. ... • 5. The Regression Model Of The United States First of all, I would like to mention that it is more reasonable to compare the models that are based on the same data, so I tried to use the same variables and the same missing value treatment approach (excluding decision tree) to all of the models. All the 3 models showed a performance of nearly the same quality, according to the various lift charts produced and presented in the further parts of the report. However, the difference becomes more evident on the % captured response and the most efficient and useful model turns out to be the logistic regression model. It is described in a greater detail in part 4 of this report. This ROC plot indicates that the logistic regression is also efficient in terms of trade off between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2.Recommended Model Decision Tree The recommended decision tree model includes 2 variables : annual income and loans, both of them are interval variables and represent the original observations. They were chosen for the final model, because after several trials, they proved to be the key ones in determining the rules within decision trees. In terms of missing values, nothing particular had to be done, because decision trees conveniently handle missing values by default. As for the splitting criterion, after getting more knowledge about each of the criteria and performing numerous trials , Gini was chosen, due to its ability to measure the differences between the values of a frequency distribution. Presented below is the model assessment graph that represents the misclassification rates at each number of leaves. As can be seen from the graph, the model enables to reduce the difference between the training and actual sets compared to other situations when different settings were used and different variables included. Another indicator of this model s usefulness is the lift value graph. The base line represents the nonexistence of our prediction model, while the intercept of the red line states that with this decision tree we can identify 3,7% more bad customers than we would have done without it. • 6. Longboarding Research Paper Longboarding. Should it really be a crime? In some cities in the United States, Longboarding has been banned on specific roads Dangerous sports have always been a tremendous interest to a large percentage of the human population. The intensity of fast paced dangerous sports such as longboarding joined with healthy rivalry and a competitive nature seems to make people more impassioned when it comes to sports like these. Some are of the opinion that the risk involved in sports like longboarding is far too overwhelming for participating in these sports to be justified. Some go so far as to say that longboarding, individually should be outlawed. I am of the opinion that while longboarding is a very dangerous sport, those that already do it are not going to stop just because it s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A thane line is a line left on the asphalt from sliding. These are completely harmless and come off the road in a very short amount of time. Skateboarding is associated with the misconduct of vandalism, such as grinding rails. This is not the case with a longboard. Street style skate causes much more damage than longboarding. One main point that is often brought up by police is that urethane lines (left by sliding longboards) leave marks on the road that are considered vandalism but as stated before, are about as damaging as sidewalk chalk. however street style skateboards grind on benches, chip concrete and damages stair rails. Because of this since a longboard is technically a skateboard both longboards and skateboards suffer the consequences of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Marijuana Has A Negative Effect On Your Health I believe that cannabis has a negative effect on your health. Now I m fully aware that a portion of the world s population truly believe that cannabis is nothing more than a harmless drug that is used for nothing more than recreational use and will not have any long term effects on your health, but I want you to ponder on the thought of my statement and why I might believe that cannabishas a negative effect on your health. First what is cannabis? according to drugs.com cannabis also known as Cannabis sativa, is a species of the Cannabaceae family plants and contains the chemical compound THC (delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol), which is believed to be responsible for most of the characteristics psychoactive effects of cannabis. Furthermore, what is health? according to Merriam Webster health is the condition of being well or free from disease . Now if you just read the two definitions of cannabis and health you can see why someone would want to further research this issue just based on the wording alone, in the definition cannabis is says the plant can cause psychoactive effects and in the definition of health it states free from disease but if one is using cannabis that can cause these effects it would be impossible to truly be free from disease which lies the major problem and gets to the root of my thought process and why I believe that cannabis has a negative effect on your health. To elaborate more on the factors that contributed to me believing that cannabis has a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Conversion Therapy And Its Effects On The Lgbtq Community About 30 years ago, homosexuality was declassified as a mental disorder. It would be assumed that treatments for to change homosexuality would end. However, conversion therapy is still being used today, even our future Vice President, Mike Pence, believes in such treatment. That alone is a huge threat to people of the LGBTQ+ community. Conversion therapy is affecting the LGBTQ+ community greatly. Conversion therapy can be defined as psychological interventions, from behavioral methods to psychoanalytic approaches to change a person s sexuality or gender identity (Hadelman, pg. 202, 2002). This treatment has been proven to not work as well as having harmful implications to LGBTQ+ people. In 1960, the conversion therapy movement began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... NARTH heavily relies on the support of Southern Baptist, Mormon, Roman Catholic, and other religious organizations to promote conversion of homosexuality (Baxter, pg. 1, 2015). Love in Action, which was one of the first religious based organizations to participate in conversion therapy, was founded in 1973. By 1976, Exodus, a national coalition of ex gay ministries was founded. There were hundreds of participates over the years and most went back to homosexual life. Interestingly enough, ex gay ministries do not keep statistics on the success of their work. However, outside observers founded that at least two thirds of those in such groups give up within two years, and that over seventy five percent of ex gay organizations fail within five years (Baxter, pg. 2, 2015). There are also no peer reviewed articles that display any kind of success with conversion therapy. Even the cases that ex gay ministries consider a person cure is when that person is asexual and refrains from any sexual encounters. This in turn is only a change in behavior, not sexual orientation . Giving ex gay ministries any type of push forward is Most practitioners reject the idea of conversion therapy. Tennis is a sport that requires May different fitness components but the four main abilities needed to be a successful tennis player include agility, flexibility, speed and musclepower. These four components are extremely important in tennis, agility is obviously important for a tennis player as they need to be able to move and change directions around the court quickly and efficiently, flexibility enables the player to slide and reach for the ball without straining or injuring muscles, speed is important to the tennis player as they will undoubtedly need to quickly chase down wide balls hit by the opponent, ... The programme also utilises the principle of progressive overload, this can be seen in the plan after week 3 the sets all increase as do most of the repetitions and the frequency increases adding one extra day in addition to the previously stated overload and progression techniques which will ensure that the player continues to develop and enhance their athletic ability. Finally the program does a great job of keeping the frequency of training consistent and as stated in the last sentence. The programme also has specific days that cater to developing each section of the body which allows for the previously worked section to recover, while also preventing any injury to the muscle group by not over exerting one muscle group. To conclude this programme is good for developing the important fitness components needed for tennis, the only problem I can see with the programme are created by the restrictions of this ... Laws In Antigone By Sophocles Throughout the play of Antigone as seen in Sophocles by Robert Fables, there are various instances displaying the importance of the laws of the gods versus the laws of the people for the character, Antigone. She often chose to obey the godly laws more so than those made by man, Creon in particular. Antigone prioritized godly laws over manly laws in regards to her own living and decision making, thus setting an example for us all if for the common good. Antigone stated that she will stand by her choices no matter the consequences or circumstances if it meant she was obeying the laws of the gods. I have seen some courtrooms through videos of trials or pictures from high profile cases such as the shooter in Colorado who opened fire in a movie theater during Batman in 2012 and I have been to a small courthouse in Calvert County Maryland. The difference between these two courtrooms was the size and number of people present. At the Boone County Courthouse the room was small and had a large amount of people ready to see the Judge. Some of the people present included: the Bailiff, who did his job by making sure everyone had a seat, was situated and quiet during the court... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This sentencing was in response to the multiple times this gentleman was charged with the same crime. The difference between the Bonne County court and the Calvert County court is the size and how quickly cases where moved through the system. In the Calvert County courtroom I sat and watched the cases where processed slow and meticulous even the requests for a change of date moved slowly. While in attendance in Calvert County I heard the judge ask how defendants mothers or families where and even postpone court dates or sentencing so farmers could bring crops in or so people could attend family functions. Even the sentencing was odd back home people could get sentenced to just weekends or even just nights in jail I heard one sentence where someone had to spend every weekend in jail for the next year, which I thought was strange but the judge said after the sentence that it was to keep the farms working. In Boone County the courtroom seemed more formal and less personal than a small town. The judge only cared for the rule of law and not about family matters or the occupation of the defendant and this is the way a judge should act in my opinion. • 12. The Effects Of Digital Distractions On The College Classroom Digital distractions are affecting the college classroom in many ways. First, let us establish what a digital distraction is. By definition to be distracted is having one s thoughts or attention drawn away: unable to concentrate or give attention to something (Distracted). To be digitally distracted is to just add technology to that. Digital distractions range from texting and driving to checking one s phone when socializing with other people. These two examples are very noticeable in today s society. People are being injured and are dying at an alarming rate from compulsively using their smartphones while driving (Greenfield). People are also losing the social skill required to communicate face to face (The Negative Impacts of Social Media on Face to Face Interactions). Digital distractions occur continually in the college setting and affect students in and outside of the classroom. A common, if not the most common, means of digital distractionis a smartphone. They allow access to the internet and social media, such as Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. With access to these, students can easily be distracted from their work in class. When a student is texting, it not only disrupts their learning experience, but it disrupts others as well. Allowing a student to bring a personal computer into class is another problem. The student could be working on their class work and taking notes, or they are just browsing the internet, playing games, checking social media, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Descartes s arguments attempt to prove that the mind and the body are two distinct substances. He argues that human existence is solely based on thought and not the existence of a physical body. He also shows the difference between the mindand body by identifying them as extended and non extended things. His arguments give rise to the philosophical problems of how we can come to know other people s minds and how we can be sure if animals have minds. The trailer can be found on the YouTube channel Sherlock and was published December 12th, 2015. Sherlock: The Abominable Bride was an episode released in between seasons three and four and directed by Douglas Mackinnon. The trailer itself is much too short to inform the viewer of what transpires in the episode, rather, it is a compilation of scenes that pose a question and give a promise. Sherlock does this in two ways. The first by posing a question and the second offering a promise. As previously stated, the trailer crafts a question by creating a contradiction that the question is based on. The question is the strongest persuasive technique used by the trailer. The second technique is a promise. Within less than a minute, the trailer makes two promises. The first one is a promise of humor. There are ten pieces of dialogue within the trailer. Four of those are used to make just one joke. Sherlock says, to the morgue! There s not a moment to lose. Which one can so rarely say of a morgue. The joke is placed almost directly in the middle of the trailer. For most of the trailer the atmosphere is dark and intense, yet for six seconds in the middle of the trailer, the atmosphere shifts suddenly. The joke seems to be a complete outlier. It does not follow the intensity of the rest of the trailer. The only practical reason that the joke is there must be to give promise. The trailer promises that although the episode will be intense, there will also be lighter, funnier moments. The second promise is a little less obvious. It goes hand and hand with the question. The promise is that the question will be answered. To do this the trailer poses little questions, such as who is hiding? by using confined spaces. The trailer then answers the question by showing and saying the avenging ghost and the bride. So when the trailer leaves viewers with an unanswered question, they believe that the episode will answer it because they have been trained by the trailer to believe so. The trailer also says that Sherlock will give the answers, which is ever so softly implied by the way Sherlock says things. • 27. Lab Report On The Heat Of Neutralization Introduction: Every chemical change is accompanied by a change in energy usually in the form of heat. If heat is evolved, the reaction is exothermic, and if heat is absorbed, the reaction is endothermic. The energy change of a reaction that occurs at constant pressure is called the heat of reaction or the enthalpyof reaction (О”Hr). This quantity of heat is measured experimentally by allowing the reaction to occur in a calorimeter. In this experiment you will determine the heat of neutralization when an acidand a base react to form 1 mole of water. In a perfect calorimeter, heat is exchanged only between the reaction and the calorimeters water. Technically, some heat may may be absorbed the calorimeter. All calorimeters exchange some heat with its environment. This amount of heat is called the calorimeters heat capacity (the amount of of heat required to raise its temperature 1в€ Celsius). They have become iconic in the film industry, and culturally consecrated by society. The films society deems worthy of such a recognition have shifted over the years, due to how society has shifted. Due to their popularity, it raises the question if movies which involve superheros could ever rise to such a title. If they can, which ones would be able to hold this honor? All of them? The two professional reviews saw the film as good, that it made superhero movies better. But the amatuer reviews, while not as wordy, tended to state the same beliefs that it was a good film. One review from audience member, Michael S, said Completely charming, wondrous, lovingly crafted, and even progressive in the way it tackles dark, violent subject matter seriously as a backdrop to what are more traditional superheroics. Another amateur, Delania B, says Different from any other film based on DC Comics, Wonder Woman exemplifies the power one woman can have on the world. To some U.S. trade barriers are viewed as a way of benefiting domestic production, as well as a way to generate government revenue. However, protectionism often leads to damaging consequences for both domestic manufacturers as well as the American people. Economists, such as Gregory Mankiw, would argue that trade barriers are not only inefficient, but create negative externalities by increasing the social cost to society (Mankiew). This paper looks at both historic and current examples of how the inefficiency of U.S. trade restrictions harm the social welfare of American citizens. The Voluntary Restraint Agreement caused the price of steel to increase dramatically during the late 1980 s, resulting in a twenty percent increase between January 1988 and March 1989 (Seebald, 1991). With a binding price floor on foreign imports, domestic steel manufacturers took advantage of the market by increasing the price of steel. The increase in domestic steel prices first hurt the domestic steel consumer manufacturers and would later contribute to the decline in social welfare for many workers of steel consuming sectors. While the U.S. steel company s flourished, the domestic steel consuming firms struggled. In regards to the economics of Reagan s VRA s, Demand for steel is now high, in part as a result of the surge in American exports, but U.S. mills cannot meet the demand and imports are restricted under quota (Richman, 1988). The shortage of U.S. produced steel hurt domestic consumer steel companies. Benjamin H. Cloning cannot be tolerated in society anywhere, not because of the ramifications on the individual countries and their cultures, but more importantly because of the mental state that a clone would inevitably have to cope with. The ability to clone humans is in essence the ability to steal a piece of someone s individuality, which we have already closely associated as being a prime evil. The ancient philosopher Rene Descartes stated That in order to understand the passions of the soul its functions must be distinguished from those of the body (Hallman, 40). That is, the soul and body must have distinctions, and this I agree with for the sake of understanding the mechanics and interactions of the two. However after this has been established the line must be drawn. George Johnson, believes that each person, whether they be a clone or not, should understandably have his own soul created by the composition of previous thoughts and experiences (Nussbaum, Sunstein 69). The example we are provided with references the unique nature of twins. According to this reasoning, twins grow up together, composed of the same genetic makeup, but because of personal experiences result in different persons (69). If this truly is the case then cloning does not accomplish what it is intended for in the first place. Likewise he argues, clones who share exact genome matches will also become different people as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Coppola s film reflects the Vietnam war and all the horrors seen and unseen associated with it. Specifically, the dissent into madness and the dehumanizing effects of war. Coppola uses the river to symbolize this dissent into madness. The further up the river the crew got, the more dehumanized they became. Even Coppola s choice of title Apocalypse Now screams what this movie is about. This symbolism accompanied by perfectly paired music and camera angles that often cast shadows strongly show the madness of war. Coppola expresses the decline into insanity in stages. In this first stage, there is still have plenty of light and very few shadows. This stage represents the dehumanization of the enemy and it is where we first meet Lt. Colonel Bill Kilgore. Coppola perfectly pairs the song Ride of The Valkyries with a scene of Kilgore flying in with helicopters and tearing up a village. As the song plays, we can see an uneven match between the Americans and the natives. Just like a Valkyrie, Kilgore is seen as a decider of who lives and who dies. The optimism of the educators to successfully teach the disabled students faded during the 1930 s and the 1940 s. Special education classes were held under horrible conditions. The rooms were insufficient, with limited resources, the teachers were poorly trained and the curriculum was inadequate. Schools also often classified students as having disabilities when they did not. Additionally, students were often labeled with one type disability when they had another. This practice (misclassification) (Turnbull et al p16) was a common discrimination in American schools. One might wonder why the conditions were so deplorable. Why were the teachers so terribly unqualified? It appears that the common perception of the disabled students was like that of Quasimodo, in Victor Hugo s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. They were misunderstood, and considered to be monstrous something to be hidden away, shunned and rejected by normal people. The public s attitude with disabled children was one of fear, as if the disability was somehow contagious. They were looked upon as crazy people. A source of error resulting in a lower percent yield was the filtering to remove the magnesium sulfate out of the dried organic solution. When filtering, some of the liquid was absorbed into the filter paper, prohibiting some of the product from being recovered. To prevent this loss, one should use a pipet to recover the product from the magnesium sulfate. The product that was recovered during this experiment, was spectroscopically analyzed, and a ratio of cis trans product was found. The focus mainly remains on mercantilism the most prevalent economic system for Western Society at this time. Smith s simple and in depth explanations of even the most basic economic concepts allow for someone with little to no prior knowledge of economicsto easily grasp his meaning, and coupling these explanations with real life examples provides even more teaching power to Smith s words. The text is split up between five different books of varying length covering the division of labor, capital, the progress of opulence, the mercantile system, and the role of government. The first book of The Wealth of Nations begins with discussions on the division of labor, which Smith considers to be the greatest improvements for the productivity of labor. To illustrate his point, Smith gives an example of the pin making industry as a case where division of labor does not just increase productivity proportionally to how much the tasks have been split, but exponentially. The manipulation in Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, specifically in the stories of Rouge and Snake Island, occurs as characters manipulate each other.
