Outliers The Story Of Success By Malcolm Gladwell
One can say that being successful is based on your actions and how you prepare for the future. In
Outliers: The Story of Success , written by Malcom Gladwell, he stated that many factors come into
play regarding the success of an individual. In regards to Mike Honda, He was a congressman from,
California and spent his early years in a Japanese internment camp. Whether if the person was talented
or not, Gladwell made intelligent observations when thinking about successfulness. I completely agree
with Gladwell on most of the points that he made and I believe that if most of the guidelines such as
the 10,000 hour rule, advantageous era of birth etc... are followed, then one will have the opportunity
to be successful. But not all of what Gladwell stated like the Matthew Effect (Wright P, 2003), are
needed to become successful.
Throughout the book, Gladwell talks about how culture family and ones upbringing can determine
ones success in the future. In the introduction of the book, Gladwell states, It s not enough to ask what
successful people are like. It is only by asking where they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His family were sent to an internment camp following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor (Clark. B,
2015). He spent the first years of his life there, and his family was left with nothing. After he was able
to leave the camp, he then shortly after started his education at Andrew Hill High school. After
graduating he Enrolled at San Jose State University. There, he majored in Spanish and Biological
Sciences. Before graduating, he had a short stint with the peace corps and traveled all throughout
South America. He then proceeded to gain a Master s degree in Education from San Jose State

Effects Of Sociology On Christianity
Often times individuals are not treating according to character. Commonly women are victims to
abuse in relation to not meeting families expectations. However intergrading sociology along with
Christian faith may introduce a deeper understanding. In addition, it is imperative for Christian to
understand the gender abuse effects of sociology. Understanding this subject will allow individuals to
assist those need. Furthermore, gender should not conclude the methods behind harsh treatment.
Sociology and the Christian faith discuss a broad topic that can be difficult to bring together. Each
topic has precise details that interlace, and complement one another. Sociology is the study of
development, structure, and functioning of human society, whereas Christianity is the religion based
on the person and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Christians who say they are followers of Christ question why do certain people act the way they
at, or are they really living this lifestyle. However, in the video clip women were forced to marry into
families without any opinion. One woman was killed by her parents in result of wanting to obtain
desired occupation. However, death should not be the outcome of unwanted marriage. Therefore,
individuals should be judged on their heart not gender. Honor and Obey Goes back to what God says
in his word, Jeremiah 17:10, I the LORD search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man
according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings . God also states in 1st Samuel 16:7,
But the LORD said to Samuel, Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.
The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the
LORD looks at the heart. Although, individuals obtain different genders treating people with respect is

Challenge Products Corporation Case Analysis
Anny Lyman was recruited to Challenge Products Corporation (CPC) from their competitor because
she has expertise in marketing and creativity. She is such a hardworking and creative manager that she
was showcased in a magazine and that is what makes her a very visible manager in her previous
organization. Before she was hired, CPC s products were very dominant because of high quality, low
costs, and durability of the design. But this has since changed because of the cheaper look alike
products introduced into the market. As a result of this, CPS s market share has significantly dropped
and it gives the CEO a concern and that is where Ann Lyman s comes into the picture to try to turn
things around. She has given a brilliant proposal to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She will have to explain in detail how her new plan appeals to everyone s values and supports the
common goal. Ann Lyman will have to thoroughly explain the reason for the need for the company to
expand its product lines, the reason why they have to offer more product options at different price
levels. The more product lines CPC has with different price levels the more market share for them.
She has to give them the reasons why CPC should branch out into trend designs that appealed to the
contemporary lifestyles of young adults which are probably their biggest customer in the electronic
housewares. In this century, for any company or organization to continue to thrive in the marketplace,
it has to adhere to consumer demands and taste. Reciprocity according to Whetten Cameron, 1993, pg.
243 involves straightforward bargaining in which each party gains something from an exchange. Ann
Lyman can use the strategy of reciprocity by striking a bargain with all the departments that will be
highly impacted by a proposal in the form of offering bonus from the potential profits that the new
product offerings will generate. Reasoning and reciprocity are the best influencing strategies to get the
other members on board with her process to implementing the changes to the sales department. Amy

Analysis Of Saturday s Child And The Secret Life Of Children
The poem Saturday s Child and the book The Secret Life of Bees have many things in common. In
Saturday s Child Countee Cullen uses the personification of death and imagery to portray the loss of
innocence, which relates to Lily Owens in The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.
Throughout the poem, the speaker uses the personification of death, which relates to Lily Owens
experience with death early on in her life. In Saturday s Child , Cullen describes Death cut the strings
that gave me life,/ and handed me to Sorrow (Cullen 17,18), which reveals that the author was
stripped of something important to them at a young age. Cullen describes the death of a family
member as Death ¨cutting the strings that gave him life¨ and saying that ... Show more content on

The speaker describes, They swathed my limbs in a sackcloth gown/ on a night that was black as tar
(Cullen 7,8), which then causes the reader to imagine the scene in their mind. Cullen describes a baby
being swathed in a sackcloth gown and this happening when the night was as black as tar . This
imagery causes an image of what they interpret this scene to appear in their mind, which further
immerses the reader into the poem. Cullen has a vivid image of what this scene looks like to himself,
and the reader creating their own image of the same scene brings a better understanding to what the
author was attempting to show. While Lily is asleep in the honey house, she has a vivid dream of her
mother following Lily s trail of honey and when she comes into view she is part roach. Lily explains,
She is smiling, so pretty, but then I see she is not a normal person. She has roach legs protruding
through her clothes, sticking through the cage of her ribs, down her torso, six of them, three on each
side, (Kidd 174). Kidd creates a vivid and detailed image of a woman with a beautiful smile but with
the lower half of her body as a roach using imagery. Kidd describes Lily s mother as following Lily s
trail of honey, smiling, so pretty, and She has roach legs protruding through her clothes. The imagery
generates an image of the woman as

Owl City Interview
Writer: Jessica Morris Category: Interview Title: Owl City: Just a day at a time Body: For one of the
most well known electro pop artists in the world, Owl City s Adam Young is definitely humble. As
soon as I asked him about his latest album Mobile Orchestra, the 29 year old turned my attention to
the myriad of duets on studio album number three. It s actually taken me quite a bit longer to make
this album than it has to make any of my earlier albums, probably just due to the fact that this album
has so many different collaborations and so many different vocal features on it, he shares with PPcorn.
It felt so good to get everybody on the same page and to have everyone contribute, and again, I feel so
lucky to have all of these collaborations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s so cool for me to meet those people out and about, it makes things like that so fulfilling, just to
write music and just to be honest, shares Young. Still living in the mid west, Young maintains a fairly
normal life considering he has sold over 2.5 million albums. I still live in a small town, I still live in
the area that I grew up in. In a lot of ways life is not very different now than it was before I started to
do music and gained some sort of success. It s always a little bit weird when I come out with a new
album and suddenly there are all these opportunities to do interviews and to do press, and to play
music live, and to do all these things.... I didn t move to LA or New York, I didn t do that whole kind
of route. So everything is still pretty normal for me, but strange. But it s very cool, it s strange in the
best way that I can describe I guess, so I m very happy. So after all his work on Mobile Orchestra,
what does Young want his listeners to take away from it? It s always easy to forget that there s
probably scenarios and situations in everybody s life that are sad and that are scary, that nobody else

The Analogy in the Short Story Xmas by Russel Banks
A person s past life is really important because it shapes the individual to be the kind of person he/she
will be in the future. No matter how much we try, we can t rid ourselves of our past nor can we run
away from it. It s embedded in our memories and will always remain to do so. In the short story Xmas
, by Russell Banks, we meet the protagonist, Gregory Dodd who tries to run away from his past and
avoid it. Eventually, the reader will learn what the consequences of such an action can lead to.
Through the epiphany that the protagonist, Gregory Dodd, undergoes, Banks illustrates the
consequences of avoiding one s past; the nature of the epiphany is defined by the car collision, and
ultimately leads Gregory to a wakeup call and a deeper self realization, leaving him with some heavy
thinking to do about his life. The forces that contribute to intensifying the moment of epiphany are
seen in the plot and symbolism.
In his story, Banks makes us meet our main character, Gregory Dodd, who is going through a
psychological crisis. After ending his two previous marriages, first in adolescence and second a fifteen
year long marriage in late manhood, he is now dating a woman named Susan who is ten years younger
than him. Gregory s life as successful and fulfilled as it may seem at first glance, is far from how it is
portrayed to be in actuality. On closer inspection, we see that Gregory lives in self deception. One of
his first delusion surfaces when we come across his fear of

Annie Lee Moss Appearance Before Mccarthy s Committee
Annie Lee Moss appearance before McCarthy s committee (1954) In addition to limiting freedom of
speech through the Espionage Act of 1917 and the Smith Act, Congress continued on a witch hunt to
remove all dissenters in any way they could, often charging and prosecuting individuals based on
circumstantial evidence. This period, often referred to as the Second Red Scare, followed World War
II and came as the United States entered the Cold War, was a time of much paranoia. One of the many
cases during this period that showed how little evidence was used against individuals to incriminate
them was the case of Annie Lee Moss. According to a F.B.I informant, Ms. Moss was a card carrying,
dues paying member of the Communist party and was brought to testify before McCarthy s
committee, for she was alleged to have examined and correct secret, encoded oversee messages. (The
McCarthy Years) As they began to question Moss, it became clear that the evidence against her was
only circumstantial. For starters, the F.B.I informant had never seen Moss in person, but just knew her
name appeared in records kept by the communist party. This was clearly not enough to convict
someone of being a spy, especially since it was later said in testimony that three others name Annie
Lee Moss in the area. Second of all, she was said to have connections with a white man by the name
of Rob Halls, who was a well known Communist, but the Rob Halls Moss knew was a colored man.
This once again poked another

Analysis Summary
Main Problems
Two issues are present in the case. The first is a decision on what research should be conducted by
Manson and Associates to allow Larry Brownlow to estimate the feasibility of a Coors beer
distributorship for a two county area in Delaware. This issue is evident, even stressed, throughout the
case. The second issue is a decision on whether or not the distributorship is feasible or, in other words,
a go/no go decision by Brownlow regarding his application. This issue is largely implicit in the case.

Cubist Collage
The readings for week five were Cubist Collage, the Public, and the Culture of Commodities by
Christine Poggi and In the Name of Picasso by Rosalind Krauss. Poggi and Krauss take two somewhat
different approaches to examine the usage of signifiers and language in Cubism collages. Poggi takes
a more personal approach at the beginning of his piece by discussing Braque and Picasso s juxtaposed
attitudes and actions towards the public and mass culture by discussing the way in which Picasso and
Braque s artworks were displayed through small dealers specifically Kahnweiler. [125] The
paradoxical element arrives from the usage of mass produced materials like newspaper or wallpaper in
the Cubist collages. Through this, he challenges not only the hierarchical distinctions between high art
and mass culture that would come to be a basis for much of twentieth century modern art, but also
challenges idea of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of these article s respective topics are discussed chiefly through the work of Picasso with Krauss
taking a more impersonal view of the usage of signs in Picasso s work. Krauss investigates the idea of
the proper name as a signifier and how it can be used in a representative function outside of indicating
an individual by using our understanding of Picasso s Seated Bather and Bather with Beach Ball after
knowing whom the figures were modeled after [23,26]. Krauss looks at the idea of the relationship
between the signifier and the signified and how, like Poggi, she believed signs can be manipulated to
add representation in the mind of the viewer in absence of pictorial representation

The last risk would be financial issues due to insurance issues. Of 10 million Americans nearly 7
million of them being over 65 rely on some level of assisted care (Weston 2012). This number does
not include the number of people that are under the age of 65. Many people that rely on long term care
live on disability or social security. These people are living on extremely limited income put them and
their families in mental distress trying to figure out how to pay for the needed care. Medicare provides
only 100 days of care following hospitalization (Weston 2012). After the 100 days it then becomes the
responsibility of the patient to either pay out of their pocket or use a supplemental insurance. For
many this is an issue as they do not have any other insurance nor do they have the finances to afford
this care on their own. With patients under Medicaid insurance there is still an issue Medicaid
provides long term care, but only after a patient has deplete his/her finances (Weston 2012). So how
does this affect the organization itself, now with lack of insurance you run the risk of not being paid
for services already rendered. The other risk involved is that if a patient is unable to pay for the care
themselves then they have to resort to other means of care, now the organization has empty beds.
Empty beds mean that there is not a high need for staff members resulting in layoffs. All of these risks

Robert K. Merton s The Rich Get Richer And The Poor Get...
Matthew effect has different meaning in each field. For example, in sociology is the where the rich get
richer and the poor get poorer. Robert K. Merton states in his book Social Theory and Social Structure
In both its original and typical usage it is meant metaphorically to refer to issues of fame or status but
it may also be used literally to refer to cumulative advantage of economic capital (Merton, 7) Matthew
effect or the story of success can be the answer of same question that many people might have. Why
some people are more successful than others? The answer couldn t be just their intelligence or hard
working, as Malcolm Gladwell explains in his book. There would be many more reasons to make a
person successful. If we want to understand that we shouldn t just research only about the person, also
we need to spend more time and research about everything around him such as culture, family, and
their habit. One of Gladwell mention in his book is about the hockey players. The players don t have
same situation and opportunities to be chosen in the team. It is hard to imagine the difference of the
age for some months will effect on the young student chance to be elected on the team. As well
Barnsley in Outliers argues that these kinds of skewed age distributions exist whenever three things
happen: selection, streaming, and differentiated experience. (Gladwell, 25) However, Gladwell named

Jeane Zaino Offensive Speech And The Contingency Clause...
Lately in the United States, there is tension. Citizens do or say things that others prefer not to see or
hear. But, when it comes to professionals, such as professors at universities, making these offensive
statements it is a whole different circumstance. Some professors are offered a contract in which they
are allowed to do and say whatever they please, but others are not. Even though the amount of tenure
contracts offered are decreasing, Jeanne Zaino, the author of Offensive Speech and the Contingency
Clause: Adjuncts who are outspoken are losing their jobs, published on the website Inside Higher Ed.,
believes professors and their jobs should still be protected under the First Amendment. Zaino
references back to the story of two professors who publicly stated very unpopular opinion. They ended
up fired due to their public statements. According to Zaino, these two should have not been fired. On
the other hand, the professors should have known better because they represent a university. These
professors knew what the consequences would be after making their statements. Besides the fact that I
disagree with Jeanne Zaino, the essay is fairly written. It is not perfect due to its poor assumptions of
what the reader must already know and believe. Although, these are key components, the author did a
good job by explaining what was currently happening and showed a decent amount of research to
back up their credibility. Zaino did a decent job writing her persuasive piece.
Zaino started off the piece bringing in background information by describing what the two professors
who lost their job said. Katherine Dettwyler from the University of Delaware would not be allowed
back to the school after her public statement. One of the University s students recently passed away.
Shortly after his passing, Katherine called him a, clueless white male and that he got exactly what he
deserved. The other professor, Lisa Durden, was fired after she stated on a national TV show that, you
white people are angry because you couldn t use your white privilege card to get into a Black Lives
Matter event. After Zanio described these current events, she transitioned into her positron on the
situation. She finds that what the

The Federal Budget Deficit
The Federal Budget Deficit Introduction The federal budget deficit is a much discussed and little
understood subject in American politics. The current recession has dramatically decreased tax
revenues, driving the United States federal government to increase spending in an attempt to stabilize
the economy. As a result the current federal deficit is at over $1.3 trillion dollars. This is
approximately $47,754 per U.S. citizen or $137,552 per U. S. taxpayer (U.S. Debt Clock: Real Time,
2012). Many contend that deficit reduction is imperative to our prosperity and economic recovery. The
deficit is blamed for a variety of economic ills including high interest rates, unemployment, the trade
deficit, the low rate of national saving and low productivity growth (Shaviro, 1997). The Causes of the
Budget Deficit Many believe the country s dramatic decent into debt began with a choice, not a crisis.
In January of 2001, with the budget balanced, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) forecast that
the nation would have over a $2 trillion dollar surplus by 2010, enough money to pay off the entire
national debt. In the years following 2001 political leaders chose to cut taxes, increase spending, and
wage two wars solely with borrowed funds (Montgomery, 2011). Today the national debt is larger, as a
percentage of the economy, than at any time in U.S. history except for the period shortly after World
War II. According to a recent Gallup Poll most Americans blame the federal

All that Heaven Allows Movie Analysis
In a film, ideology plays an important role in connecting the film to the society and allowing the
audience to have better understanding of the film. According to the German philosophers Marx and
Engels, (1978) ideology is identify as the relative systematic body of ideas, perception, and the actual
subconscious though of a given class, or group of individual in a certain time and place. In their
statement, there were four criteria to this definition, Marx and Engels always considered the state,
politics, education, religion, the law and other activities not directly a part of material production to be

Dumb And Dumber Rhetorical Analysis
After performing my informative speech, I immediately felt relieved. Mainly because I finally
completed the assignment. I felt a little nervous and shaky, but I practiced so I knew I wasn t going to
mess up that majorly. I went over it several times and changed a variety of things. I couldn t really
think of any visuals except for the video. So at first I had music behind every point I had. Each song
was planned appropriately for the topic of the point. Then, though, I knew that would be a hassle to
deal with between points, especially because I was already over on my time. I estimated that I was
around seven minutes. That was only in the beginning. So after that I apprehended I could do
something from Jim Carrey s movie Dumb and Dumber. The extra gloves act is really funny and

though, before all of that of course, I pondered about three main points of Jim. The most recognizable
is his acting career, but I wouldn t talk about that the whole time. Another was his early life because
countless of people don t know he s from Canada or how he grew up very poor and even homeless.
After those two, I knew that he s been doing some different inspirational talks and speeches. One
certain inspirational type of tour he s performing is named the The Meaning . I ve seen some of his
talks and videos on YouTube and they re pretty interesting so I added that to the end of my speech. To

Two Types of Solids

Lab Report
Physical Properties of Two Types of Solids
SCH3U0
Maggie Liu
Abstract
The purpose of this lab is to study some of the physical properties of two types of solids ionic and
molecular. The samples used are sodium chloride (ionic) and camphor (molecular). The physical
properties studied are odour, hardness, melting point, solubility in water and solubility in 2 propanol.
It is observed that some of the physical properties of sodium chloride are no odours, hard, a high
melting point, soluble in water and insoluble in 2 propanol; some of the physical properties of
camphor are a strong odour, soft, a low melting point, insoluble in water and soluble in 2 propanol. A
few conclusions can be drawn from these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Noted the observations for each solid in both water and 2 propanol.
Observations
|Physical property |Sodium chloride |camphor |
|Odour |No odour |Strong (mint) |
|Hardness |hard |soft |
|Melting point |high |low |
|Solubility in water |soluble |insoluble |
|Solubility in 2 propanol |insoluble |soluble |
Sodium chloride does not have any odours, whereas camphor has a strong mint like smell. It is found
that ionic compounds usually do not have odours because they are solids and the particles are all held
tightly which makes the gas nearly impossible to be released into air and make the smell, however,
many molecular solids do have odours because their particles are not held very tightly and there is
space between the particles. Vapor or gas can be produced and released into air which causes smell.
Sodium chloride is harder than camphor.

Films of different genres use different techniques to improve a film s quality. In the same way the film
A midnight in Paris uses similar techniques to provide a overall view on Gil s character. Despite some

National Security Agency Values
We all value our privacy, and we all know that privacy can conflict with other important social values.
However, in this increasingly digital and technological world, we are more susceptible than ever to
government intrusion of our digital communications and data. This came to light in June 2013, when
former National Security Agency (NSA) employee Edward Snowden revealed thousands of classified
documents detailing the intrusive mass surveillance and bulk data collection of the NSA to journalists
and subsequently the American public. As a result, widespread distrust and questioning of the
American government s data collection programs grew among American citizens and bipartisan
leaders who were also subject to the surveillance apparatus of the ... Show more content on

they defended mass surveillance as a crucial means of counterterrorism and maintaining national

would slow down the ability of the NSA and other agencies to lawfully acquire information necessary
to counterterrorism efforts. Although also against the Freedom Act, liberals like Bernie Sanders
opposed the act for different reasons. Strong privacy supporters like Sanders denounced the act for not
doing enough for privacy rights and argued that it would have been a better alternative to have

The National Education Goals Of The United States
The National Education Goals, adopted in 1990, specified eight goals for educational improvement in
the United States. As stated in the National Education Goals, By the year 2000, every school will
promote partnerships that will increase parental involvement and participation in promoting the social,
emotional, and academic growth of children (National Education Goals Panel, 1998). According to the
final report, there was no significant change in the level of parent participation in the majority of the
states. The No Child Left Behind law established strict provisions for states, school districts, and
schools with regard to parental involvement among the parents of disadvantaged students for
increasing academic achievement (U.S. Department of Education, 2003). Epstein suggests that schools
establish comprehensive school family partnership programs.
Partnerships programs can provide substantial benefits for students which include: improved academic
achievement (including classroom grades and standardized tests), improved academic achievement
(including classroom grades and standardized tests), improved attendance, homework habits, attitudes
toward school, behavior, and increased completion rates for secondary and postsecondary education
(Epstein, 1986). Further studies indicate substantial benefits to parents, including: additional family

THE LINK BETWEEN STOCK PRICES AND THE ECONOMY
Economic theory proposes that there should be a strong link between economic activity and stock
prices, given that its price is the discounted present value of the firm s payout. If this payout is finally
a function of real activity, such a link should exist.
There are several theoretical propositions suggesting how stock prices can have a direct impact on
economic output, which further strengthens the link amongst these two variables.
1. The first link was proposed by Tobin in 1969. The focus is on the impact that share prices have on
the cost of capital. The coefficient that captures this is called Tobin s Q, which is given by the ratio of
market value of current capital to the cost of replacement capital. When the prices of shares are high,
the value of the firm to the replacement cost of its capital is also high i.e., the Tobin s Q is also high.
Furthermore, this leads to rise in investment expenditure and thus causes a rise in the aggregate
economic output as for firms it is easier to finance their investment expenditures. This is because
investment would be simpler as it would require a lower share offering in a situation of a higher price

The Arms Race and How it Changed the United States of America
The Evil Empire that is what, at the height of the arms race, United States President Ronald Reagan
called the Soviet Union (Rudolph 1). Unsurprisingly, the Soviet Union was similarly upset at the
United States. This anger is what fueled the arms race. During the Cold War, due to fears of nuclear
attack, the US and Soviet Union designed and deployed thousands of nuclear warheads, each hoping
to deter the other from nuclear launch with threat of counter attack (O Neal 1). This massive arms
buildup, however, had many negative effects on the US. To recognize the impact that the arms race
continues to have on today, it is crucial to understand not only its causes, but also its immediate
impacts on the US economy, society, foreign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This preparation took the form of an arms race. The arms race was a competitive acquisition of
weapons by the Soviet Union and the United States. (Boilard 1). The strategy behind the arms race
was to amass more nuclear weapons than the opponent, thus enabling them to win any future nuclear
war. It was assumed that if nuclear war happened, then the country with the most nuclear weapons
would destroy more of the other country, consequently winning the war (Boilard 1). Under this
strategy, the Soviet Union built about 45,000 nuclear warheads, and obtained enough radioactive
materials to triple that. The Soviet Union also placed tactical missile sites in many countries from
Cuba to Kazakhstan, hoping to be able to perform a fast strike from close range if necessary (O Neal
1). Likewise, the US placed missiles in Europe and started the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI)
program. The SDI program was meant to defend against a nuclear attack. The SDI program included
satellites with lasers and nuclear powered railguns, which would ideally be able to shoot down
approaching missiles long before they reached their target. The SDI program was also referred to as
Star Wars because its use of lasers in space made it seem like science fiction. Furthermore, the price,
amount of electricity needed to power these weapons, and amount of research needed was so great that
the project was abandoned several billion dollars later (Rudolph 2). In essence, the

John Locke Research Paper
The 18th century is well known for its complex artistic movements such as Romantism and Neo
classical. The leading style Rococo thrived from 1700 1775 and was originated from the French words
rocaille and coquille which meant rock and shell ; used to decorate the Baroque gardens1. Identified as
the age of Enlightenment , philosophers would ignite their ideas into political movements1. Associated
with this movement is England s John Locke who advanced the concept of empiricism . This denotes
that accepting knowledge of matters of fact descends from experience and personal involvement1.

The landscape and gestures are symmetrical and balanced such as their feet, hands, and facial
expressions are all equally proportioned. Throughout this composition there are geometrical shapes
which are recognizable such as circles, ovals, and rectangles which are all natural forms. The utilities
used to create this work of art have more benefits than drawbacks. Canvases and oil paints are easier
to depict mythical and heroic figures effectively because the paint can be applied thick which makes
blending of colours easier to achieve. The linseed or walnut oil dries very slowly thus making it
simple to revise the image. In addition, canvases are light and retain a glossy surface. The only
challenge is to keep the brush strokes to a minimum, but the trace of an artist s brush stroke like the
one in this painting accentuated movement and naturalism.

instigating a mysterious composition. When up close the eyes reflect happiness in comparison to the

The Acknowledged of True Love in Marie de France’s lais
The admiration of courtly love is no more prevalent theme in Marie s lais than on Yonec and Lanval .
These two lais are showing very aristocratic views on socially states; love of nobility. A love that
cannot be explained by a commoner or peasant that cannot show status has nothing to offer, for
courtly love because a peasant has no chivalry. This courtly love is often secret in that a knight and a
lady are not married to one another but to a different partner making the story adulterous. That secret
at the end makes the story ecstatic and tragic; the adhesive of the story is the passion of love that is
displayed making the store ecstatic and the secret is the tragedy that love cannot be acknowledged.
The principal argument of this essay is to understand courtly love in Marie de France s lais. To
illustrate Marie s view of aristocratic as a point of courtly love in her lais she demonstrate her view in
two different methods in the book Yonec she uses a spiritual understanding to demonstrate aristocratic;
on the contrary Lanval where she explains aristocratic in the amount of human wealth. For instance,
Marie resists in Yonec , that She didn t know what it was. It flew into the chamber; its feet were
banded; it looked like a hawk of five or six moultings (1344). Marie uses a hawk as unhuman, this is
not like a normal commoner but more than that, he is a noble. She uses a hawk since it is as opposite

Born in Italy in 1364 but relocating to Paris, France a few years after, Christine de Pizan wrote her
literary work in the French vernacular. She was on her way to becoming a skillful scholar as a child
with a high intellectual interest and as a part of the royal court of Charles V, she had many learning
opportunities, Christine was exposed to a wide range of experiences that she apparently used to her
full advantage (Birk 17). Her most significant work was her involvement in the querelle des femmes

A continuation of her defense of women, Christine begins the book by admitting to believing the men
who wrote about women because as scholars, they could not possibly write anything but factual
things. She is visited by three allegorical ladies who not only help her realize that she is wrong in
believing those male scholars, but also in helping Christine built the city that will be inhabited by the
ladies. Christine uses this tidbit of believing the men as her driving force to showcase how important it
is for people to recognize that the misogynistic writings are an issue that many fall in line with
because of the trust in noble scholars. Her intentions in creating this city is to protect those virtuous
and favorable women from the negative reputation that has beseeched them. The city is a safe haven

Family Deployment Analysis
Military children and families face multiple challenges just for being part of this culture, these
challenges are not limited to disruption in family routines, extended separations, mental health
problems and parenting difficulties that be related to exposure to traumatic events (Paley, Lester,
Mogil, 2013). One such challenge is deployment. What is deployment, it is the sending of military
personnel and materials to a specific destination from their home installation (Military, 2015).
Deployment encompasses the preparation and personal needs that are needed before, during and after
deployment. All families preparing for a deployment separation go through a process defined by the
stages of preparation, survival, and reunion and with each stage comes with different stressors and
adjustments for the military member and family members left behind. The stages are predeployment,
deployment, sustainment, redeployment and post deployment ((Devoe, Ross, 2012), within these
stages are the seven emotional stages of deployment anticipation of departure, detachment and
withdrawal, emotional disorganization, recovery and stabilization, anticipation of return, return
adjustment and renegotiation and reintegration and stabilization (Morse, 2006).

Assessment Of Perineal Pain On Women Experience During The...
Assessment of Perineal Pain
Adequate and effective management of perineal pain begins with a comprehensive assessment
(Marcus et al, 2009; Breivikl et al, 2008; Dalton et al, 1999). However, Andrews et al, (2008) UK
based study concluded that there is no pain scale to date that has been developed to appropriately and
accurately assess the perineal pain that women experience during the postnatal period. This begins to
offer explanation as why up to 92% of new mothers endure perineal pain in the early postpartum
period (Macarthur and Macarthur, 2004).To further support these findings Way (2012) discovered that
women expect perineal pain following vaginal birth but under estimate the severity of the pain.
Women will experience high levels of pain before requesting analgesia as they attempt to normalise
the pain as a consequence of vaginal delivery (Swain and Dahlen, 2013). Macarthur and Macarthur
(2004) conclude that the current management of perineal pain is inadequate as the use of analgesia is
not standardised.
Both Macarthur and Macarthur (2004) and Andrews et al, (2008) used a prospective cohort research
design to obtain their data. The sample population that was needed to ensure that the results produced
were statistically significant was, therefore, larger (Rees, 2011). Macarthur and Macarthur (2004) used
a sample size of four hundred and forty seven women from Toronto, Canada, and Andrews et al,
(2008) included two hundred and forty one women from London, England. The

The Fall By Albert Camus
Albert Camus s absurdist novel The Fall deals with many overarching themes: justice, guilt, judgment,
freedom, and power. One of the more understated themes is that of punishment, as Jean Baptiste
Clamence is never formally punished. And yet, though the law does not condemn him, he still finds
himself plagued by guilt and fear of judgment even after he claims to have found a solution. Camus
shows, through symbolism and Clamence s own narration, that the lack of punishment is a burden for
Clamence in his supposedly happy life. While speaking to his companion of his new lifestyle in
Amsterdam, Jean Baptiste Clamence proclaims that he has discovered the secrets of the good life
(Camus 144). He even insists, repeatedly, that he is happy, happy unto death (144). And yet Camus
sprinkles hints all over the pages that this is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Water is inextricably tied to his guilt: the suicidal woman he fails to save drowns in a canal (70), and it
is from the water that he first hears the condemning laughter (39). Before he ever mentions the woman
Clamence didn t save, Camus connects water with death, as Clamence comments on the breath of
stagnant waters, the smell of dead leaves soaking in the canal and the funereal scent rising from the
barges loaded with flowers (43). The water represents his guilt and his crimes, and yet, rather than
escaping it, Clamence moves to a city of canals where he is constantly surrounded by water. This is
not because the water doesn t affect him any longer; on the contrary, he still fears to cross bridges at
night (15) and he admits that he forces himself to admire the canals (43). He outright acknowledges
that the cry of the suicidal woman would continue to await me on seas and rivers, everywhere, in
short, where lies the bitter waters of my baptism (108). Thus, in surrounding himself by water,
Clamence is sure never to be free of the torment of his

Achilles Shield In The Iliad
The Iliad tells many great mystical tales while also containing pieces of history. One of the greatest
wars documented in the Iliad is between the Trojans and the massive Mycenaean kingdom. The
greatest warrior remembered from that battle who ultimately won the battle for the Mycenaeans is
Achilles, known for his magnificent ability to take lives and conquer kingdoms. Most know him for
his great swordsmanship and his god like art of battle(Patterson, May 4th); although, his shield is the
most significant piece of equipment from that battle for Troy that he fought against Princes Hector. It
was not the sword that ended Hector s life, but the shield that Achilles used in battle due to the mass
amount of symbolic value it holds. As well as how beautiful Homer describes the shield to be. It had
to be a glorious piece of armor because it was said to be crafted by a god Hephaestus (History.com

The Value Of A Firm s Cost Of Capital Essay
Insert Creative Title Here don t forget to change paper name Calculating a firm s cost of capital is
highly important in capital budgeting as capital costs are used to determine investment opportunities,
which in turn determines the profitability of the firm. This is true even if a firm knows that a particular
project will be financed in a particular way. For example, with debt, the firm must use the concept of
Weighted Average Cost of Capital to evaluate all of their capital investment projects. 1 The target
capital structure, which determines the cost of capital, must be applied to each investment opportunity
because if all the cheap (i.e. debt) capital is used for one project, only the expensive (i.e. equity)
capital will be available for future consideration. A later project could be considered unprofitable if
evaluated with the cost of equity, but profitable if evaluated with the Weighted Average Cost of
Capital (WACC). This can become confusing for the person evaluating the projects, but there is an
easier solution. The optimal capital budget results only when each investment opportunity is evaluated
with the WACC. Each dollar in the capital budget is considered part debt, part preferred stock and part
common equity. Of course, the equity will come from either current retained earnings or the sale of
new common stock.
To find the WACC, the cost of each of the capital components mentioned above as debt, preferred
stock and common equity are calculated

internship is required before completion. Usually, the internship is fulfilled during the student s last
semester upon graduation, when they are a senior. Recently, the Health Care Management
Foundations course (HCM 2500), has become a prerequisite before beginning the internship hours. A
total of 150 hours are required during the internship course (HCM 4610). In order to register for HCM

Often, organizations utilize the same handbook and position descriptions from several years ago.
Although I am not sure when the organization last updated these documents, revising these to adhere
to new safety or credentialing regulations might be needed. Not only would this project save the
organization time, but it would also allow me to gain experience in the human resources department.
Lastly, as an intern I could work on updating their website and social media pages. Looking up
information online is becoming the standard way people find answers. The National Institute for
Change may have clients that do not want to share their struggles or legal issues with everyone,
therefore, an easy to use website can help provide them with answers while remaining private. From
personal experience, I remember finding out where to attend a specific court ordered class that met
requirements was not the easiest. Working on the National Institute for Change s internet presence

Damien walked over to Alexandria in the Amity compound and laid a hand on her shoulder. She
turned around. Oh, hey. she said. Yeah, hey. I m thinking of joining the Erudite s side. he said. What?
Why? she asked, staring at him with a puzzled expression on her face. I feel that the Erudite are
correct. The Abnegation should be gone. Also, you should come with me. he said. What the hell is
wrong with you? she asked. I know what s right and wrong, Lex. Damien said, glaring at her. No, you
don t. Alexandria said. Damien put a hand on the shoulder where she got shot and put pressure on it as
his revenge. DAMN YOU, LEX. ALWAYS UNDERESTIMATING ME! he screamed.

Is this a time out or something? Alexandria asked. Please sit. the one man said. Alexandria rolled her
eyes and sat in the chair. The one guy grabbed a syringe from the cabinet. What s that for? she asked.
We are just following Amity protocol, Alexandria. he said. He injected her with the serum before she
could argue.
The one walked over to her, cautiously. How do you feel? he asked. Although Alexandria was about to
say that she was pissed off, the serum made her feel much better. I feel...great! Thanks! she said,
smiling. The two then smiled and sighed a sigh of relief. They let her out, where she found Luke
waiting. Hey. he said, smiling a little. Alexandria smiled back. Hey! she exclaimed. She had a huge
smile on her face. That fight was pretty intense back there. What happened? Luke asked. Doesn t
matter. she responded. Luke looked at her. You okay? he asked. Never been better! Alexandria
responded. Luke stared at her. What did they do to you in there? he asked. Nothing. she responded.
Luke sighed. Let s go see Johanna and ask what happened. he said. He wrapped his arm around
Alexandria and then, the two of them started walking down to Johanna s office. Alexandria was
giggling and smiling nonstop. Once they got down there, Luke knocked on the door. Johanna opened
it. Hello. she said. Hey, um.. I have a question. Luke said. Sure. she replied.

Review Of Ice Age
Ice Age
Chapter One
The green garbage truck pulled up into a long winding ramp like driveway, the special clamps on his
wheels dug into the ice that encased the world in a snowy ice age. At five in the morning this house
seemed eerily silent, even for five A.M. The truck driver sighed. He felt sorry for this family. In fact,
he d been briefed on them this morning at his office on the 61st floor of The World Building. Mr.
Abdallah had been fired yesterday, from his job as a government official on the 98th floor. His income
had gone down drastically, and the garbage man, lowly as he was had heard that it was unlikely Mr.
Abdallah would ever be hired again. With a heavy heart the young man got out of his truck hooked up
the garbage can, flipped it into the trucked and returned it. Shawn Abdallah walked to school as usual.
He rode the packed shut elevator to floor 9 as usual. He trudged down the hall to Ms. Sweeney s class
as usual. Yet his father s words rang in his ears. You can only go to private school for three months.
Then you can go public school for three more, on floor 17. Or you can try public school for nine. Then
it s homeschool for you. I m sorry. We just don t have the money anymore. Shawn plunked himself
down in his seat and let out a long sigh. He didn t know how he would make it through the day
without someone teasing him too much about his father losing his job. Just two days ago, police had
stormed through his house, taking Shawn s parent s turban and

Cameron s Avatar Religion
On another note, because of its close relationship with people and their culture, religion is one
sensitive subject that, when challenged, can catalyze full on war, as shown in Cameron s Avatar. The
film takes place in a faraway planet inhabited by a people called the Na vi. The Na vi have strong
belief in Eywa, their mother goddess. When humans come to colonize the planet, known as Pandora,
and take its resources, the Na vi turn to Eywa to protect them. The Na vi pray to her and ask her to
protect their lands, their goddess, and the jungle. The humans look at this unfaltering faith and laugh.
They believe their religionless structure and industrialism is superior. Morton Deutsch, the E.L.

The humans look at themselves as being superior to the Na vi in all ways. And when the humans who
understand the Na vi s faith try to dissuade the other humans from destroying the Na vi s home, the
CEO of the attacking company retorts, What the hell have you people been smoking out there? They
re just goddamn trees! (Cameron). After this exchange the militant humans attack and completely
obliterate the Na vi s home tree. The humans do not believe in the Eywa and the balance she protects;
therefore, they believe the Na vi are just primitive natives who don t have a right to anything. In an
article by professor Eric Brahm on the website Beyond Intractability, he states, ...group identities are
even more for lay shaped in relation to the other group, thereby reinforcing the message of extremists
that one s religion is that end by another faith that is diametrically opposed (Brahm). Meaning that the
humans feel threatened. Their religion is their ambition to make money, which requires that they
upend Na vi sacred lands, so obviously the Na vi are opposed to this idea. This conflict of interests
creates an us and them attitude, in other words, you are either with us or against us. This does
eventually escalate into full scale war. Before the final battle between the humans and the Na vi, Jake
Sully, a human whose has become part of the Na vi, prays to Eywa for help. Later during the battle,
when it seems as though all hope for the Na vi cause is lost, all of the animals in the jungle start to
fight the humans as well, effectively turning the tide and winning the battle. Neytiri then exclaims,
Eywa has heard you... Eywa has heard you! (Cameron). Without religion in this instance, the outcome
would have been drastically different. For one thing, it starts the conflict. The unwavering Na vi refuse
to give up their faith, while the humans see this

Plains Indians Research Paper
The Plains Indians ensued two principal varieties of life: farming and hunting. The farmers lived in
perpetual villages. These tribes were the Arikaras, Pawnees, and Wichitas (who spoke languages of the
Caddoan family) and additionally the Mandans, Hidatsas, Omahas, Otos, and Osages (who spoke
Siouan languages). Their residences within the northern plains were generally fabricated from logs
coated with dirt. Within the southern plains, their residences were coated in grass. Women farmed,
prepared, and preserved food crops. The men hunted, fished, and cultivated tobacco. Twice the year
the men would endure extended hunting trips for buffalo. Once within the early summer after their
crops were planted and so once more in autumn after the harvest. ... Show more content on

The army maintained a system of forts at strategic locations and fielded heavy offensive columns
burdened by slow‐moving supply trains. The Indians fought with hit‐and‐run tactics that exploited
environmental factors and avoided open engagement unless the risk was small. The individual warrior
excelled over the typical regular in virtually every test of combat proficiency, but in open battle, this
was offset by military organization, discipline, command, and firepower. In general, the army
prevailed when the Indians abandoned their orthodoxy and fought by white rules, or when
commanders abandoned their orthodoxy and fought by Indian

Judgment In Puppy And Sonny s Blues
So Judgmental
In the world today it takes 5 seconds for a person to judge someone. That quick 5 second judgment
will stay in a person s brain forever. In the short story Puppy and Sonny s Blues Judgment plays a
prominent role in how the stories playout. In this essay I will show you the ways that judgment come
into play, the similarities in between characters, and how moving past judgment can affect the
outcome.
In Sonny s Blues the narrator and in Puppy the main character Marie presents many similarities
including judgement against other characters. In Sonny s Blues the narrator is displaying his judgment
towards his brother Sonny. For example, the narrator keeps his brother at arms length and does not
think it is possible for Sonny to ever change his ways. The narrator is very skeptical of his brother s
life. Just like in the Puppy the main character Marie emphasizes her dislike against Callie s parenting
skills. One example would be, when Marie refuses to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sonny at first does not know how to handle his emotions, causing him to go on a dark downward
spiral of drugs and trouble at an early age. It is not until later in his life that he lets his emotions come
out in a healthy way, through music. The narrator on the other hand deals with his emotions by boxing
them inside of himself, causing him to isolate himself from the world around him. The characters in
Puppy are very similar also. Both Marie and Callie come from difficult past and have strange children.
Marie s son has violent outburst. She fixes the outburst by having him constantly play a video game to
calm him. Callie s son darts in front of cars while playing outside. Callie feels as if she has solved the
issue by putting her son on a chain that is connected to a tree. Both Marie and Callie love their sons

Why Is Karl Marx Considered Radical
Karl Marx and His Radical Views
Karl Marx[i] Karl Marx is among the most important and influential of all modern philosophers who
expressed his ideas on humans in nature. According to the University of Dayton, the human person is
part of a larger history of life on this planet. Through technology humans have the power to have an
immense effect on that life. [ii] The people of his time found that the impact of the Industrial
Revolution would further man s success within this world and would ensure his success as a species.
Marx was extremely radical in finding that this was a positive impact on humans in nature.
In order to understand why his views were considered radical, it is important to understand his ...

Marx believed the workers were not collecting the benefits of the Industrial Revolution. Marx says
that men are forced to work for natural survival. Marx also suggests that working men only have time
to engage in the basic animalistic tendencies of a quest for survival. He says that man becomes
alienated from nature and other humans as well. Marx is basically saying that man lived day by day,
by day and he has nothing else to really live for.
Marx thought that as the workers grew stronger, they would eventually rebel against the organization.
In doing this, they would create a classless society where everyone would be equal and all property
would be abolished. The basis of Marxism is the conviction that socialism is inevitable. Marx believed
the free enterprise system, or capitalism, was doomed and that socialism was the only option[iv].
Obviously, this was not a favored philosophy with expanding industrialists, entrepreneurs, and
existing political systems of the mid nineteenth century [v].
Marx wrote The Communist Manifesto with the German radical, Fredriech Engels,
Fredriech Engels[vi]
who was also Marx s best friend. The Communist Manifesto was a pamphlet written on the eve of the
German Revolution in 1848. In his essay, Marx explains his radical theories on politics and history.
Marx and Engels also examined the positive aspects of capitalism in The Communist Manifesto. They
thought the bourgeoisie had

Learning Sign Language Research Paper
According to research conducted by the World Federation of the Deaf, only two percent of the world s
population has access to education in sign language. Many parents of Deaf or hard of hearing children
struggle with the decision of choosing the right approach to language for their child. Unfortunately,
many of these parents choose to deny their children an accessible language, and instead force them to
learn a spoken language first. The Nyle DiMarco Foundation and the National Association of the Deaf
have partnered with many others to prove to the world that teaching Deaf and hard of hearing children
and infants ASL is vitally important to their development. Prohibiting a Deaf or hard of hearing child
from learning the language that is most accessible to them seriously hinders both their social and
academic development. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Learning sign language actually enhances a child s spoken and auditory abilities, their academic
performance, and everyday abilities. Having an accessible language only improves a child s well
being and development, while being deprived of one has serious implications on the child. The Nyle
DiMarco Foundation and the National Association of the Deaf have begun a national movement
towards the goal of a bilingual education approach, which includes the child learning the sign
language and spoken language native to their region or family. I fully support this movement, and
aspire to get more involved to help make positive strides towards this goal. This global issue is
important to me because when I learned about this movement it inspired me to pursue the career path I
am currently seeking. In order to help provide better education in the Deaf community I aspire to

The Theme Of Symbolism In The Kite Runner
The tree was ours (27). Symbols in literature can represent a multitude ideas and there is no shortage
of important symbols in The Kite Runner. However, in Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner, one
important reoccurring symbol is the pomegranate tree which drives the theme of love and
relationships and is a physical symbol of progression throughout the novel. The recurring symbol of
the pomegranate can be viewed as a physical symbol of progression and time passing throughout the
novel. The pomegranate tree is first mentioned in Amir and Hassan s youth when they sit under it for
shade and Amir will read to Hassan. The tree is indicative of their childhood innocence and the times
they share. Hosseini states Sitting cross legged, sunlight and shadows of pomegranate leaves dancing
on his face, Hassan absently plucked blades of grass from the ground as I read him stories he couldn t
read for himself (28). Here Amir and Hassan are children sitting under a tree and enjoying their
innocence. The next time the pomegranate tree is brought up in the novel is after the pivotal scene of
Hassan being sexually abused by Assef and Amir watching while doing nothing to help. Amir is
ashamed that he did not take action and can barely function. Hassan invites Amir to go with him to
hike up the hill to the pomegranate tree and Amir accepts the invitation. As they approach the tree,
Hosseini states, We sat under our pomegranate tree and I knew I d made a mistake. I shouldn t have

Importance Of Finance As A Decision Making Tool Within...
The following report will justify the use and importance of finance as a decision making tool within
organisational contexts. In addition, an application of basic financial techniques will be present in
order to analyse the performance of an organisation in 2012 to their performance in 2013.
2.0 Justification of finance as a decision making tool
Within organisations, the justification of finance in regards to a decision making tool is critical.

The two aspects are acknowledged as debits and credits. Mott (2007)
2.11 Single Entry Bookkeeping
Alternatively, organisations not using double entry bookkeeping will use single entry bookkeeping.
Single entry differs from double entry by not following the dual aspect rule, with Hanif (2013)stating
transactions are not recorded in their two fold aspects . There are limitations of single entry
bookkeeping in comparison to double entry bookkeeping. Hanif (2013) Fleay et al (2011) Ahmed
(2008) Mukherjee and Hanif (2006)postulate that due to single entry bookkeeping not acknowledging
nominal accounts, this results in the trading and profit and loss account cannot be prepared .
Additionally, single entry bookkeeping does not have set rules that double entry bookkeeping has,
resulting in potential confusion. Additionally, employers integrating double entry bookkeeping into
their business in comparison to single entry are able to make better decisions, signifying the critical
importance of double entry bookkeeping, in regards to benefiting employers, guiding them to make
better, informed decisions.
2.2 Trial Balance
Kimuda (2008)defines trial balance as a schedule of balance, both credit and debit, extracted from the
accounts in the ledger . In addition, Rich et al (2012)asserts a trial balance explicitly states active
accounts and the debit and credit balance of each account. Additionally postulating trial balances

  • 2. Outliers The Story Of Success By Malcolm Gladwell One can say that being successful is based on your actions and how you prepare for the future. In Outliers: The Story of Success , written by Malcom Gladwell, he stated that many factors come into play regarding the success of an individual. In regards to Mike Honda, He was a congressman from, California and spent his early years in a Japanese internment camp. Whether if the person was talented or not, Gladwell made intelligent observations when thinking about successfulness. I completely agree with Gladwell on most of the points that he made and I believe that if most of the guidelines such as the 10,000 hour rule, advantageous era of birth etc... are followed, then one will have the opportunity to be successful. But not all of what Gladwell stated like the Matthew Effect (Wright P, 2003), are needed to become successful. Throughout the book, Gladwell talks about how culture family and ones upbringing can determine ones success in the future. In the introduction of the book, Gladwell states, It s not enough to ask what successful people are like. It is only by asking where they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is such a hardworking and creative manager that she was showcased in a magazine and that is what makes her a very visible manager in her previous organization. Before she was hired, CPC s products were very dominant because of high quality, low costs, and durability of the design. But this has since changed because of the cheaper look alike products introduced into the market. In Saturday s Child Countee Cullen uses the personification of death and imagery to portray the loss of innocence, which relates to Lily Owens in The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. Throughout the poem, the speaker uses the personification of death, which relates to Lily Owens experience with death early on in her life. In Saturday s Child , Cullen describes Death cut the strings that gave me life,/ and handed me to Sorrow (Cullen 17,18), which reveals that the author was stripped of something important to them at a young age. Lily explains, She is smiling, so pretty, but then I see she is not a normal person. She has roach legs protruding through her clothes, sticking through the cage of her ribs, down her torso, six of them, three on each side, (Kidd 174). Kidd creates a vivid and detailed image of a woman with a beautiful smile but with the lower half of her body as a roach using imagery. • 8. The Analogy in the Short Story Xmas by Russel Banks A person s past life is really important because it shapes the individual to be the kind of person he/she will be in the future. No matter how much we try, we can t rid ourselves of our past nor can we run away from it. It s embedded in our memories and will always remain to do so. In the short story Xmas , by Russell Banks, we meet the protagonist, Gregory Dodd who tries to run away from his past and avoid it. Eventually, the reader will learn what the consequences of such an action can lead to. Through the epiphany that the protagonist, Gregory Dodd, undergoes, Banks illustrates the consequences of avoiding one s past; the nature of the epiphany is defined by the car collision, and ultimately leads Gregory to a wakeup call and a deeper self realization, leaving him with some heavy thinking to do about his life. The forces that contribute to intensifying the moment of epiphany are seen in the plot and symbolism. In his story, Banks makes us meet our main character, Gregory Dodd, who is going through a psychological crisis. After ending his two previous marriages, first in adolescence and second a fifteen year long marriage in late manhood, he is now dating a woman named Susan who is ten years younger than him. Gregory s life as successful and fulfilled as it may seem at first glance, is far from how it is portrayed to be in actuality. On closer inspection, we see that Gregory lives in self deception. Annie Lee Moss Appearance Before Mccarthy s Committee Annie Lee Moss appearance before McCarthy s committee (1954) In addition to limiting freedom of speech through the Espionage Act of 1917 and the Smith Act, Congress continued on a witch hunt to remove all dissenters in any way they could, often charging and prosecuting individuals based on circumstantial evidence. This period, often referred to as the Second Red Scare, followed World War II and came as the United States entered the Cold War, was a time of much paranoia. One of the many cases during this period that showed how little evidence was used against individuals to incriminate them was the case of Annie Lee Moss. According to a F.B.I informant, Ms. Moss was a card carrying, dues paying member of the Communist party and was brought to testify before McCarthy s committee, for she was alleged to have examined and correct secret, encoded oversee messages. (The McCarthy Years) As they began to question Moss, it became clear that the evidence against her was only circumstantial. For starters, the F.B.I informant had never seen Moss in person, but just knew her name appeared in records kept by the communist party. This was clearly not enough to convict someone of being a spy, especially since it was later said in testimony that three others name Annie Lee Moss in the area. Poggi and Krauss take two somewhat different approaches to examine the usage of signifiers and language in Cubism collages. Poggi takes a more personal approach at the beginning of his piece by discussing Braque and Picasso s juxtaposed attitudes and actions towards the public and mass culture by discussing the way in which Picasso and Braque s artworks were displayed through small dealers specifically Kahnweiler. [125] The paradoxical element arrives from the usage of mass produced materials like newspaper or wallpaper in the Cubist collages. Some articles say that there were 12 battles fought by Arthur, killing in all, 980 men: ( Was Arthur Even a King? ). One of Arthur s celebrated 12 battles against the Saxons was fought at the City of the Legion: ( Chester Amphitheatre ). These people are living on extremely limited income put them and their families in mental distress trying to figure out how to pay for the needed care. Medicare provides only 100 days of care following hospitalization (Weston 2012). After the 100 days it then becomes the responsibility of the patient to either pay out of their pocket or use a supplemental insurance. With patients under Medicaid insurance there is still an issue Medicaid provides long term care, but only after a patient has deplete his/her finances (Weston 2012). So how does this affect the organization itself, now with lack of insurance you run the risk of not being paid for services already rendered. • 17. Robert K. Merton s The Rich Get Richer And The Poor Get... Matthew effect has different meaning in each field. For example, in sociology is the where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Robert K. Merton states in his book Social Theory and Social Structure In both its original and typical usage it is meant metaphorically to refer to issues of fame or status but it may also be used literally to refer to cumulative advantage of economic capital (Merton, 7) Matthew effect or the story of success can be the answer of same question that many people might have. Why some people are more successful than others? The answer couldn t be just their intelligence or hard working, as Malcolm Gladwell explains in his book. There would be many more reasons to make a person successful. If we want to understand that we shouldn t just research only about the person, also we need to spend more time and research about everything around him such as culture, family, and their habit. One of Gladwell mention in his book is about the hockey players. The players don t have same situation and opportunities to be chosen in the team. It is hard to imagine the difference of the age for some months will effect on the young student chance to be elected on the team. As well Barnsley in Outliers argues that these kinds of skewed age distributions exist whenever three things happen: selection, streaming, and differentiated experience. • 18. Jeane Zaino Offensive Speech And The Contingency Clause... Lately in the United States, there is tension. Citizens do or say things that others prefer not to see or hear. But, when it comes to professionals, such as professors at universities, making these offensive statements it is a whole different circumstance. Some professors are offered a contract in which they are allowed to do and say whatever they please, but others are not. Even though the amount of tenure contracts offered are decreasing, Jeanne Zaino, the author of Offensive Speech and the Contingency Clause: Adjuncts who are outspoken are losing their jobs, published on the website Inside Higher Ed., believes professors and their jobs should still be protected under the First Amendment. Zaino references back to the story of two professors who publicly stated very unpopular opinion. They ended up fired due to their public statements. According to Zaino, these two should have not been fired. On the other hand, the professors should have known better because they represent a university. These professors knew what the consequences would be after making their statements. Besides the fact that I disagree with Jeanne Zaino, the essay is fairly written. It is not perfect due to its poor assumptions of what the reader must already know and believe. Although, these are key components, the author did a good job by explaining what was currently happening and showed a decent amount of research to back up their credibility. Zaino did a decent job writing her persuasive piece. Zaino started off the piece bringing in background information by describing what the two professors who lost their job said. Katherine Dettwyler from the University of Delaware would not be allowed back to the school after her public statement. One of the University s students recently passed away. Shortly after his passing, Katherine called him a, clueless white male and that he got exactly what he deserved. • 19. The Federal Budget Deficit The Federal Budget Deficit Introduction The federal budget deficit is a much discussed and little understood subject in American politics. The current recession has dramatically decreased tax revenues, driving the United States federal government to increase spending in an attempt to stabilize the economy. As a result the current federal deficit is at over $1.3 trillion dollars. This is approximately $47,754 per U.S. citizen or $137,552 per U. S. taxpayer (U.S. Debt Clock: Real Time, 2012). Many contend that deficit reduction is imperative to our prosperity and economic recovery. The deficit is blamed for a variety of economic ills including high interest rates, unemployment, the trade deficit, the low rate of national saving and low productivity growth (Shaviro, 1997). The Causes of the Budget Deficit Many believe the country s dramatic decent into debt began with a choice, not a crisis. In January of 2001, with the budget balanced, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) forecast that the nation would have over a $2 trillion dollar surplus by 2010, enough money to pay off the entire national debt. In the years following 2001 political leaders chose to cut taxes, increase spending, and wage two wars solely with borrowed funds (Montgomery, 2011). Today the national debt is larger, as a percentage of the economy, than at any time in U.S. history except for the period shortly after World War II. As stated in the National Education Goals, By the year 2000, every school will promote partnerships that will increase parental involvement and participation in promoting the social, emotional, and academic growth of children (National Education Goals Panel, 1998). According to the final report, there was no significant change in the level of parent participation in the majority of the states. The No Child Left Behind law established strict provisions for states, school districts, and schools with regard to parental involvement among the parents of disadvantaged students for increasing academic achievement (U.S. Department of Education, 2003). THE LINK BETWEEN STOCK PRICES AND THE ECONOMY Economic theory proposes that there should be a strong link between economic activity and stock prices, given that its price is the discounted present value of the firm s payout. If this payout is finally a function of real activity, such a link should exist. There are several theoretical propositions suggesting how stock prices can have a direct impact on economic output, which further strengthens the link amongst these two variables. 1. The first link was proposed by Tobin in 1969. The focus is on the impact that share prices have on the cost of capital. The coefficient that captures this is called Tobin s Q, which is given by the ratio of market value of current capital to the cost of replacement capital. When the prices of shares are high, the value of the firm to the replacement cost of its capital is also high i.e., the Tobin s Q is also high. Furthermore, this leads to rise in investment expenditure and thus causes a rise in the aggregate economic output as for firms it is easier to finance their investment expenditures. During the Cold War, due to fears of nuclear attack, the US and Soviet Union designed and deployed thousands of nuclear warheads, each hoping to deter the other from nuclear launch with threat of counter attack (O Neal 1). The strategy behind the arms race was to amass more nuclear weapons than the opponent, thus enabling them to win any future nuclear war. It was assumed that if nuclear war happened, then the country with the most nuclear weapons would destroy more of the other country, consequently winning the war (Boilard 1). Under this strategy, the Soviet Union built about 45,000 nuclear warheads, and obtained enough radioactive materials to triple that. The Soviet Union also placed tactical missile sites in many countries from Cuba to Kazakhstan, hoping to be able to perform a fast strike from close range if necessary (O Neal 1). Likewise, the US placed missiles in Europe and started the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) program. The SDI program was meant to defend against a nuclear attack. The SDI program included satellites with lasers and nuclear powered railguns, which would ideally be able to shoot down approaching missiles long before they reached their target. The SDI program was also referred to as Star Wars because its use of lasers in space made it seem like science fiction. These two lais are showing very aristocratic views on socially states; love of nobility. A love that cannot be explained by a commoner or peasant that cannot show status has nothing to offer, for courtly love because a peasant has no chivalry. This courtly love is often secret in that a knight and a lady are not married to one another but to a different partner making the story adulterous. That secret at the end makes the story ecstatic and tragic; the adhesive of the story is the passion of love that is displayed making the store ecstatic and the secret is the tragedy that love cannot be acknowledged. One such challenge is deployment. What is deployment, it is the sending of military personnel and materials to a specific destination from their home installation (Military, 2015). Assessment of Perineal Pain Adequate and effective management of perineal pain begins with a comprehensive assessment (Marcus et al, 2009; Breivikl et al, 2008; Dalton et al, 1999). However, Andrews et al, (2008) UK based study concluded that there is no pain scale to date that has been developed to appropriately and accurately assess the perineal pain that women experience during the postnatal period. This begins to offer explanation as why up to 92% of new mothers endure perineal pain in the early postpartum period (Macarthur and Macarthur, 2004).To further support these findings Way (2012) discovered that women expect perineal pain following vaginal birth but under estimate the severity of the pain. Women will experience high levels of pain before requesting analgesia as they attempt to normalise the pain as a consequence of vaginal delivery (Swain and Dahlen, 2013). Macarthur and Macarthur (2004) conclude that the current management of perineal pain is inadequate as the use of analgesia is not standardised. Both Macarthur and Macarthur (2004) and Andrews et al, (2008) used a prospective cohort research design to obtain their data. One of the more understated themes is that of punishment, as Jean Baptiste Clamence is never formally punished. Camus shows, through symbolism and Clamence s own narration, that the lack of punishment is a burden for Clamence in his supposedly happy life. While speaking to his companion of his new lifestyle in Amsterdam, Jean Baptiste Clamence proclaims that he has discovered the secrets of the good life (Camus 144). The water represents his guilt and his crimes, and yet, rather than escaping it, Clamence moves to a city of canals where he is constantly surrounded by water. This is not because the water doesn t affect him any longer; on the contrary, he still fears to cross bridges at night (15) and he admits that he forces himself to admire the canals (43). He outright acknowledges that the cry of the suicidal woman would continue to await me on seas and rivers, everywhere, in short, where lies the bitter waters of my baptism (108). Strategic Auditing Company Background The iconic brand of Coca Cola dates back to the late 1800 s when a pharmacist from Atlanta created a distinctive soft drink that would take the world by storm. It is when they enter into third world emerging markets the Coca Cola opens themselves up to instability and corruption risks. The risk faced in these less developed countries could result in a loss of investment if problems were to arise. Economic Factors: Being a dominant brand worldwide, it means that Coca Cola products are being bought and sold using many different types of currency. Because of this, Coca Cola is face with foreign exchange risk. Recently, many economies in Europe have been struggling and currencies have become unstable. This is an economic risk faced by Coca Cola due to their global expansion. Social Factor: One of the major external factors that influence the success and decisions made by Coca Cola is the sociocultural trend towards healthy alternatives. Because the original Coca Cola was high in sugar and caffeine, which is unappealing to the current health trend, Coca Cola needed to adjust products or their success would be a thing of the past. One of the greatest wars documented in the Iliad is between the Trojans and the massive Mycenaean kingdom. The greatest warrior remembered from that battle who ultimately won the battle for the Mycenaeans is Achilles, known for his magnificent ability to take lives and conquer kingdoms. Most know him for his great swordsmanship and his god like art of battle(Patterson, May 4th); although, his shield is the most significant piece of equipment from that battle for Troy that he fought against Princes Hector. It was not the sword that ended Hector s life, but the shield that Achilles used in battle due to the mass amount of symbolic value it holds. As well as how beautiful Homer describes the shield to be. It had to be a glorious piece of armor because it was said to be crafted by a god Hephaestus (History.com Staff, 2011). • 39. The Value Of A Firm s Cost Of Capital Essay Insert Creative Title Here don t forget to change paper name Calculating a firm s cost of capital is highly important in capital budgeting as capital costs are used to determine investment opportunities, which in turn determines the profitability of the firm. This is true even if a firm knows that a particular project will be financed in a particular way. For example, with debt, the firm must use the concept of Weighted Average Cost of Capital to evaluate all of their capital investment projects. 1 The target capital structure, which determines the cost of capital, must be applied to each investment opportunity because if all the cheap (i.e. debt) capital is used for one project, only the expensive (i.e. equity) capital will be available for future consideration. A later project could be considered unprofitable if evaluated with the cost of equity, but profitable if evaluated with the Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC). This can become confusing for the person evaluating the projects, but there is an easier solution. The optimal capital budget results only when each investment opportunity is evaluated with the WACC. Each dollar in the capital budget is considered part debt, part preferred stock and part common equity. Of course, the equity will come from either current retained earnings or the sale of new common stock. To find the WACC, the cost of each of the capital components mentioned above as debt, preferred stock and common equity are calculated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marx also suggests that working men only have time to engage in the basic animalistic tendencies of a quest for survival. He says that man becomes alienated from nature and other humans as well. Marx is basically saying that man lived day by day, by day and he has nothing else to really live for. Marx thought that as the workers grew stronger, they would eventually rebel against the organization. In doing this, they would create a classless society where everyone would be equal and all property would be abolished. The basis of Marxism is the conviction that socialism is inevitable. Marx believed the free enterprise system, or capitalism, was doomed and that socialism was the only option[iv]. Obviously, this was not a favored philosophy with expanding industrialists, entrepreneurs, and existing political systems of the mid nineteenth century [v].
