Default Judgements Analysis
Respecting both human and cultural differences in a society is vital as a society can only wholly
prosper when respect is mutual among all parties. In order for respect to be mutual among everyone,
default judgements need to be fully brought to an end. It is important for the issue of default
judgements to be resolved as they negatively impact societies as a whole, whether that be a group of
people or even an individual person. As previously stated, default judgements create just one singular
story for an entire group of people. A person is more than just what appears at face value as there is
always more to one than a single label. As Adichie discussed in her previously mentioned speech, a
professor in the United States of America suggested ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The work of the likes of Anthony Bourdain and Iris Zaki have helped in overcoming the danger of a
single story in that they show true images of people in countries such as Iran, thus allowing people to
better understand them. If people develop a better understanding of Iranians, then there is a great
opportunity that any default judgements about them may be vanquished. In Bourdain s work, the
Iranian people are shown as overall friendly people, that enjoy conversing, listening to pop music, as
well as eating dishes such as chelow kebabs. It is also discussed in his work how Middle Eastern
countries, such as Iran, are all grouped into one by foreigners in that they are all oppressive to women.
It is stated in Bourdain s work that not all countries in the Middle East are oppressive to women in the
vein of how Saudi Arabia is. It is stated that unlike in Saudi Arabia, women are able to partake in
activities such as driving and voting in Iran. Through watching Bourdain s work, one may be able to
see Iranian people for who they truly are rather than what they are portrayed as in one s own default
judgement. As for Zaki s work, both Arab and Jewish women eat and converse at a hair salon named
Fifi s . Although both the Arab and Jewish women come from very different cultures, they develop an
understanding and respect for one another through their time at the salon. They accept each other for
who they are as they have a clear understanding of one another through the conversations that they
have had. Through these understandings of one another, the danger of a single story can be

Examples Of Hubris In The Necklace And The Cask Of...
One is a story of revenge and murder, the other a story of greed and materialism. On the surface, the
short stories appear quite different, but at their heart, a similar drive beats within the three main
characters, determining their actions and altering the pathways of their lives. The Cask of Amontillado
by Edgar Allen Poe is a story of the proud Montresor, obsessed with getting revenge on the foolish
Fortunato. The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, is a story of a beautiful woman who felt she
belonged to an upper class but was forced to live a banal, ordinary life. While the plots of these two
short stories are different, the central characters all share the overarching quality of an obsessive pride
hubris. This hubris comes in many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the motto? Nemo me impune lacessit (Poe 1). Simply translated, this means no one provokes me
with impunity. The family motto indicates that pride of family honor has been a long standing and
well guarded trait. Montresor s ancestry and history of pride elevates his grievance against Fortunato,
and evokes an attack because he dared to belittle Montresor s honorable name. In fact, Montresor s
pride is still so great, and his remorse so little, that he continues to gasconade about his revenge fifty
years after the event. The pride of his family name forces Montresor to murder Fortunato,
conclusively and irreversibly directing his decisions throughout the short story.
In The Cask of Amontillado , Montresor is not the only character who displays an overwhelming and
ultimately detrimental sense of pride. Fortunato is also a very prideful man who is willing to go to
great lengths to maintain his honor and reputation. For him, it is his reputation as a fine wine expert
that he must defend. Fortunato s pride overrides his common sense and is the driving force of the
deadly decisions he makes throughout the story. Montresor claims to possess a bottle of the expensive
and highly regarded Amontillado wine. He tells Fortunato that he has called an expert, Luchresi, to
inspect the wine. Fortunato forces Montresor to take him to the vaults because he is certain that
[Montresor has] been imposed upon. And as for Luchresi, he cannot

Mental Processes In Identifying Strangers
1. Identify and define the mental processes that account for mistakes in identifying strangers. Also
identify the circumstances that affect the accuracy of perceptions in identifying strangers. Memories
can be influenced by time, emotion, prejudices, and intentions. It is important to understand how the
mind processes memories and how that could apply to criminal justice. Psychologists separate
memory into three phases: acquisition of memory, retention of memory, and retrieval of memory [1].
Acquisition of memory is when information is first received in the mind. Retention of memory is the
period of time between acquisition and retrieval: this is an on going process of storing this
information, and when memories can be influenced most. Lastly, ... Show more content on

The first element subjective tests utilize is that the subject had no intention of committing the crime
until the government encouraged them to do so [1]. For example, an undercover officer created a

second element would be that the crime was committed due to the encouragement of the government

6. Is there a constitutional right to the exclusionary rule and the defense of entrapment? Explain your
answer. The Constitution does not mention the exclusionary rule or the defense of entrapment, as there
was not a need to include them at the time. These legal guidelines were created as devices to protect
Constitutional rights: particularly the Fourth and Sixth Amendments. Not having these as explicit
Constitutional rights allow judges to use their discretion in determining whats appropriate to use in
individual cases.

Data Sheets Of Multiphase Pumps
The current study is an effort to analyse existing secondary data which includes professional journals,
industry reports, past research on related topics and data sheets of multiphase pumps (MPPs) so as to
understand the efficiencies and advantages brought in by MPPs in multiphase pumping conditions.
The study also attempts to provide a general criterion of a pump for a particular process during
production. It is understood that fluids pumped from off shore oil wells will essentially pump
multiphase fluids at all times up to separation stage. Also, oil wells undergo changes in gas volume
fraction and watercut during the lifecycle of the well including testing, installation, initial phase of
pumping, in established and operational oil wells, an aging oil well and during abandonment.
The criterion to choose a multiphase boosting solution for any oil well system is very subjective and in
most cases is dependent on the pump manufacturer or system packager data. Such a situation may
result in over dependence on the vendors and probably camouflage other available technologies or
limitations in the known technology. The study will compare both the manufacturer data sheets as well
as the available data on multiphase pump performance in oil wells across the globe. The available
literature on the subject only indicates that certain type of pump is suitable for a given application but
does not provide a generalized set of criterion for deciding up on a pump for a particular field

Reflection Paper On Self Check
Every day I perform a self check on myself. I change my routines up, and I always keep a close watch
on my surroundings. I used to leave doors open when I would go directly in and out of my home, but
there is too much crime that takes place to trust people. Any place that used to be a hot spot have been
turned into open view areas. The impractical thing I could ever do is let someone let me be victimized
again, especially when I know not to leave doors unlocked. The one person who has never left me, and
that is God. We have an open door policy.
At one time in my life, I took everything for granted because I never had any altercations with anyone
until one morning I decided I would do some spring cleaning before I went to class. Due to my
negligence, I did not lock the door to my house nor to my shop. When I returned back to my work
shop, I became what criminal justice defines as a victim . Through a lot of counseling and learning I
could not run anymore, I can tell others how to be careful. However, I m particular with whom I talk.
Since I moved back to Mississippi, I am careful in every aspect of my life. I knew what I had to do in
order to reduce the risk of being attacked, and especially protect my grandchildren. Every day I
change my pattern; especially when I travel. Although I used to travel the backroads, they are history.
I may have to take a detour periodically, but my husband knows my whereabouts all the time. I also
have a tracking device on both of our

Sigmund Freud Superego Essay
In the psychoanalytic theory of Sigmund Freud the idea of the super ego was developed. The superego
as defined by Britannica is the ethical component of the personality and provides the moral standards
by which the ego operates. The superego s criticisms, prohibitions, and inhibitions form a person s
conscience, and its positive aspirations and ideals represent one s idealized self image, or ego ideal.
Freud himself described the super ego as the long period of childhood, during which the growing
human being lives in dependence on his parents, leaves behind it as a precipitate the formation in his
ego of a special agency in which this parental influence is prolonged. It has received the name the
super ego.

We convince ourselves that the inner voice we hear is good but it is actually a false voice we have
fabricated for ourselves. The superego instils barriers in our lives, makes us less open to the world
around us and more paranoid of the idea of what we should be or should become and stops new,
unplanned experience reaching us. These barriers come from previous experience. The negative
emotions we evoked from our parents and care givers when we were younger were internalized and
became part of our inner voices, our false god. Situations which may have caused negative feedback
are when we would; Speak what was true for us, Take care of ourselves by making a choice that was
threatening to the mindset of a caregiver, Assert ourselves, even when we did it in healthy ways,
Reach for something we wanted that was beyond the status quo of those around us, Express a strong
(or in some cases ANY) opinion, Do ANYTHING that our caregivers didn t want us to do because it
rocked their boat and triggered THEIR superego voice: No, don t do that! That s bad This is a
reprimanding side to us which wants us to be normal and fit in. This element of our psyche challenges

The Endocrine System Essay
The endocrine system is a group of glands distributed throughout the human body. This group of
glands secretes substances called hormones. These hormones are dumping into the bloodstream (Shier,
Butler Lewis, 2009). The endocrine system does not have a single anatomic location. It is dispersed
throughout the human body. The final purpose of this process is to control, regulate, and coordinate
the functioning of the human body. Some body functions can be activated or inhibited by hormones,
which are secreted in very small quantities. The hormone related diseases may be due to hyper
secretion, or a hypo secretion. The hormones secreted by the endocrine glands regulate growth,
development and function of many tissues, and coordinate the ... Show more content on

Hyperthyroidism (too much hormone) may result Grave s disease. Symptoms include anxiety, rapid
heart rate, diarrhea and weight loss, nervousness, anxiety, and irritability.
The parathyroid glands are located in front of the base of the neck around the thyroid gland and
secrete parathyroid hormone. Parathyroid hormone regulates blood levels of calcium and phosphorus.
This hormone (parathyroid hormone) affects the bones, kidney, and intestine (Shier et al., 2009).
Adrenal glands are endocrine glands that sit atop the kidneys (Shier et al., 2009). The adrenal glands
secrete hormones that increase heart rate, the force of cardiac muscle contraction, breathing rate,
elevate blood pressure and blood glucose level. This activity prepares the body foe energy expending
action, sometimes called fight or flight responses (Shier et al., 2009).
According to Shier, Butler Lewis (2009) other glands that produce hormones and thus are parts of the
endocrine system include the pineal gland and the thymus gland . Shier et al., 2009 argued the pineal
gland, located deep between the cerebral hemispheres, secretes hormone melatonin that acts on certain
brain regions that function as a biological clock. The changing levels of melatonin across 24 hours
enable the body to know when day is and when is night.

The famous Hollywood director, Steven Spielberg, through his 1998 blockbuster film Saving Private
Ryan, gave us a glimpse into the realities of war, in particular, World War II s D day invasion and the
immediate aftermath, as it played out in the European theater. The story opens with a prologue, in
which a veteran brings his family to the American cemetery at Normandy, and in a flashback he joins
Captain John Miller, played by Tom Hanks, and GIs in a landing craft making the June 6, 1944
approach to Omaha Beach to face devastating German artillery fire. This mass slaughter of American
soldiers is depicted in a compelling, unforgettable 24 minute sequence. Afterwards, he is then given a
new mission, to find and extract Private James Francis Ryan, played by Matt Damon, one of four
brothers, the other three of whom have been killed in action within days of each other. Because Private
Ryan was the last remaining son of a grieving mother, Washington D.C. has ordered his extraction and
his return home. Again in contrast to Apocalypse Now , whereas the taking of one man s life was the
goal, in Saving Private Ryan , the goal was the saving of one man s life. Even further, Captain Miller

Medic Vs Emt Research Paper
Medic VS. EMT
You are a bystander to an accident on the road. You notice a person pleading for help as they are
screaming in pain, what do you do? Well, it honestly depends on which profession you have chosen:
Medic or EMT? When I compare being a Medic in the United States Military to being a civilian EMT;
I think that being a Medic is better. Upon comparing the credentials and future availability to attain
additional credentials, individual capabilities, and impact on health of those treated, I believe that you
too will agree with the idea that being a Medic is more beneficial.
First, we will discuss being a Civilian EMT. To be an EMT an individual must complete an EMT

required to pass a state test. After passing the state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Colombian Reggaeton Singer Who Is From Medellin...
Maluma, the colombian reggaeton singer who is from Medellin Colombia, and Pitbull, the hip hop
reggaeton singer who s from Miami Florida, share some familiar similarities and vast differences in
their background and songs. Both Maluma and Pitbull sing and rap to reggaeton music. With this in
mind, reggaeton originated in Puerto Rico and is considered hip hop and latin american music.
Reggaeton is also sung in spanish. Maluma began his music career in 2010 while Pitbull began in
2001. Uniquely, both singers perform live for their fans and neither of them are retired yet. Although
Maluma started out at a much later period than Pitbull, he still has the same tone as Pitbull does in his
songs. Maluma and Pitbull can each carry out beautiful vocal sounds and harmonize to music
wonderfully. Correspondingly, they are extremely professional singers. For example, Maluma sings
with a lot of low yet powerful vocals while Pitbull sings with medium to high pitched vocals. In
general, the better they sound to their audience, the more they will rise to fame. Another key point is
that they both feature other artists in some of their songs. Maluma and Pitbull can influence people to
learn more about their culture, learn about their musical influence, and learn about their albums and
visit them live in concert to experience an amazing show. Additionally, Pitbull comes from a beautiful
city with a breathtaking view of Miami s beach and Maluma comes from a place of tall buildings and

Abraham Lincoln The Best President
The best United States president is Abraham Lincoln. A survey from 2014 by America Political
Science Association, voted Abraham Lincoln as the best U.S. president. (Washington Post, 1)
Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves, took care of the civil war, and was a civil rights activist. I think he
is the best president we have had because of these reasons.
During his time in office President Lincoln abolished slavery. Abraham Lincoln became the United
States 16th President in 1861, issuing the Emancipation Proclamation that declared forever free those
slaves within the Confederacy in 1863. (whitehouse, 2) Though Abraham Lincoln felt African
Americans were not equal to whites, he believed the America s founders intended that all men were

The Earth And The Stars
Throughout the history of the human species people have looked up at the stars and wondered. Each
individual culture, past and present, has stories and myths concerning the various features of the night
sky and the constantly moving celestial objects which reside there. There are creation stories which try
to explain where the Earth and the numerous stars came from. There are other stories whcih take on a
less grand task and only try to explain a single celestial object. Some believe that the stars and the
Earth are intertwined and the motions or strange appearances of objects directly relate to what is
happening on the Earth.
There are also beliefs that the stars and night sky are the Heavens viewable from Earth, where
everything must be perfect. If things were not perfect in the Heavens, such as a new star appearing in
the sky due to a supernova occurring light years away, some cultures would take this as a bad omen. In
ancient China for example, the Emperor was responsible for what happened on Earth as well as what
happened in the Heavens, so if a new star appeared unannounced then a competing group vying for
control could use that change to try to alter the existing balance of power. In other places such as
medieval Europe even suggesting the Heavens were not perfect could land someone under arrested
from, at the time, all powerful Catholic Church. Such was the case with Galileo after his public
support of the idea that the Earth moved around the Sun and not the other

the Giant shouted, Cheater, cheater! He jumped at the Giant s face . . . and began to dig in the Giant s

The Boxer Rebellion In China From 1898-1900
The Boxer Rebellion in China took place roughly from 1898 to 1900 and is known for being an anti
foreign and anti Christian movement. China s Qing regime, also found itself at odds with the Boxer
movement due to their weak control and susceptibility to foreign influence. 1 The insurgency that
erupted throughout parts of the country focused on these three main components, however these were
not their fundamental concerns. Climate variables within lower north and east China, such as drought
and flooding, were the underlying complications for the uprising. The climate factor, known as a
powerful catalyst to the Boxer uprising, is precisely the true cause of the event. Government records,
first hand accounts, and dendrochronology show climate s implications on the Chinese population at
the time and should be acknowledged as the primary origin of the Boxer.
In the 1890 s, throughout the provinces near Beijing and Tianjin, many militant groups began
appearing, uniquely priding themselves in their marital arts training and abilities. Named the Boxers
by the West due to their trainings, the
Spirit Boxers, Red Lanterns, and Big Sword Society (to name a few) had a goal to intensify their
bodies to be able to withstand physical blows and eventually even bullets. 2 The Boxer s true
beginning coincides with the political events that took place following the Juye Incident in November
1879. A gang of men in Juye killed two German missionaries, leading the German government to

Cavities Research Paper
If you have had frequent cavities for most of your life, then your biggest fear may be that bad oral
health is in your genes and your child will live a life filled with cavities, too. While no studies have
found that children can truly inherit cavities, there are ways that cavity prone parents can pass on their
bad oral health to their children. However, the great news is that by taking the right steps now, you can
prevent this from happening. Here are two important tips for keeping cavities to yourself and not
letting your oral health affect your child s.
Know How Cavity Bacteria is Passed So You Can Stop the Cycle
If your mother had frequent cavities as well as you, then it can be easy to suspect you just have
genetically bad teeth. Parents can pass on their cavity causing oral bacteria to their children, but it is
not their DNA that causes it. Most babies are born with a healthy oral microbiome that helps keep
cavities at bay. However, a parent can pass cavity causing bacteria and alter the bacterial makeup of a

Metaphors By Sylvia Plath Essay
In Sylvia Plath s poem Metaphors there are several references and comparisons that are made between
various images and pregnancy. Plath s life experiences and the perception of women s roles of the
1950 s shaped her poems and was of particular importance in this poem. As the poem progresses, the
reader can infer that her attitude towards her pregnancy is not static. Through her ironic use of various
metaphors, Plath is able to convey her feelings of bearing a child, and how her perception and
emotions of herself change over the course of her pregnancy. Plath was an American poet, born in
1932. Her parents demanded superior academic performance and this resulted in Plath being
somewhat of a perfectionist in her writing (Carmean 1). She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Beginning at line 7 of the poem, Plath s tone shifts from one of excitement and satisfaction to that of
disdain and disillusionment because of a crushing realization. Instead of having the initial joy and
excitement of being pregnant, Plath now feels as if her body is a mere means and that its only purpose
is to bare the child she is currently supporting. She feels more like a vessel storing something or an
incubator. She sees herself as a shelter for the child growing inside of her (Devi 2). She further
highlights this feeling when she again focuses on her appearance when she mentions how she is a cow
in calf (7). Many women would feel disrespected if called a cow and the fact that Plath portrays
herself as one, she allows the reader to see her true feelings of her pregnancy and that she might, in
fact, wish she was not. The newness of pregnancy has worn off and now she is left with a sour taste
and realization as if she had eaten a bag of green apples (8). All Plath is left with now is the bitter truth

Essay on The Debate Over Campaign Finance Regulations
Money is both the nectar and poison of the human race. This fact has never been more applicable than
to modern politics. Nearly all assets to a candidate for political office, such a media advertisements,
travel expenses and campaign supplies rely on fiscal support. In an age when electronic media rules
supreme, money has never been more important. Today, it has become necessary for political
campaigns to pour massive amounts of funding into television, Internet, radio and print ads in order to
run a competitive campaign. These ads are the most prominent form of communication between a
candidate and the sovereigns, and therefore, a candidate s ability to use ads can not be inhibited. This

into affect at midnight of April 7th (Smith 2). The FECA required political campaigns to report the
source and amount of each donation. Following the Watergate incident, a movement in Congress
called for campaign finance reform in an effort to subdue political corruption. This movement was
inspired in part by the role of the Committee to Re Elect the President, and in 1974 was amended with
the passage of the Bi Partisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA) to form the Federal Election
Commission (Smith 1,3). The FEC was tasked with overseeing campaign fundraising and enforcing
the FECA, which was the first step toward full transparency and equality of political campaigns (FEC

required campaigns to report the source of major donations, as well as restricting the use of soft

Compare And Contrast The United States Vs The Congo
United States Versus the Congo
Do you ever think about how lucky you are? You should. You live in one of many countries that cares
for its citizens. Living in America you have opportunities that other countries will never have. For
example, there are many third world countries that struggle daily to keep multiple citizens alive. These
citizens have to fight for their lives and sometimes never get any form of medical help. Whereas in
America we have many different resources that allow us to be a strong world power, if we lost citizens
by the hundreds weekly we would be a country in need. Many countries in Africa are considered third
world countries because they are overpopulated and under developed.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), located in Central Africa, struggles daily because the
government fails. The country has been in civil conflicts for nearly a decade, this however is not the
main health hazard. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Congo was a popular location for slave trade,

when planning this type of healthcare facility.

He has firsthand experience the life inside of high school, so he must have seen these type of
characters when he was in high school. So what reasons wouldn t give us the mind set of trusting
someone that s experienced the high school life? This is why his ethos is so important in opposing the
other side. He also uses pathos very well through the columbine shooting. The enemy is other teens
and the social system that they impose on one another. The teens that impose such a system are the
ones that were named in this essay. And this system is imposed through insults. But one can only take
so much, and that is what happened in the Columbine shooting. These gothic kids were under attack
by the popular group, and pushed them to the edge to where they believe that doing such cruel acts
could somehow with the satisfaction of revenge. It is horrifying to realize that teens are so heartless,
but that is what has happened. This is not only emotionally effective to the reader, but also logically.
Because if you think about it, Denby imposes his statement that there is the popular bitch, the jock,
and says that they are pushing a social system. So this just reassures the fact that what Denby
describes is true and happens every day with the halls of high school without outsiders

Seamus Heaney s Peninsula Essay
Seamus Heaney is a famous Irish poet who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1995 and is
considered by many to be the most interesting Irish poet since William Yeats, who likewise won a
Noble Prize in his day. Heaney s literature frequently communicates the rather tranquil setting of his
home land, Ireland, and in particular the North of the country, where he was born. (BBC News
Magazine Faces of the week , 19 January 2007) His unique portrayal of Ireland s countryside lead to
his Noble Prize and the Swedish Academy mounting praise on him for works of lyrical beauty and
ethical depth (New York Times, October 6 1995, by William Grimes). His love for the Irish landscape
is clearly evident to the reader in many of his poems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It suggests to the reader that all the information that has been taken in, all this scenery at the peninsula,
is just an image in the mind and only in an inspired and skilled wordsmith can the written word on
page come close to realising the true beauty of these spectacular sights. Heaney describes this
peninsula as a land without marks , which really represents Ireland as a whole, with its proud ancestry
and peaceful countryside, with endless silent fields. This reinforces Heaney s idea of uncoding the
scene. This land without marks is a silent landscape, which sits dormant, waits to be seen and heard
and one must have the skill to read what one sees and hears and form that into words on paper. Also
the fact that in this land with no marks one can only merely pass through and not arrive conveys the
land s starvation of its ancestors imprints and creations, so much so that it is difficult to recognise one
part from another. One could conclude that it is not just the narrator that is struggling to express
himself, but that the landscape itself is also inarticulate. The sky is tall as over a runway, Heaney s
description of the sky here is appropriate. He uses a simile, comparing the sky on the peninsula to that
over a runway. The sky, like that over a runway, is vast as there is nothing really in the way,

Examples Of Determinism In Arrival
Determinism and Free Will in Arrival
If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things? This is one of the
heaviest hitting questions in the movie Arrival and it serves as the philosophical launching point for
my discussion here. This question comes from the main character Louise directed at her future
husband. As the movie progresses, we as viewers learn that the main character Louise has been given
the ability to see into the future. Part of these visions include the death of her future daughter to a rare
disease at a young age. Yet, even though she can see these events of the future and even though she
knows of the pain and suffering they will bring, she still chooses to follow the same course of her life
because she recognizes some type of greater purpose. It is through the actions and decisions of Louise
that this movie explicitly explores the notion of whether knowledge of future events would affect or
negate our concept of free will as human beings. Like Ted Chiang s short story entitled The Story of
You Life that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rowlands discusses this in Chapter 9 of his book and he argues that this concept allows us to
understand what it means to be a human being and how we are to achieve authenticity in our lives.
Namely, this type of thinking causes us to live in the light of our death. To do so, we require a
different understanding of time, one that transcends our standard linear notions of a past, present, and
future. By having a being towards death understanding, we begin to see everything in relation to the
now. This understanding applies directly to our understanding of our mortality. As finite beings, this
mindset makes us confront our finite nature and creates a sense of meaning through the reality of
death. It is through this realization that we find our meaning and true

Perception In The Truman Show
The film The Truman Show portrays an array of the ways of knowing continuously throughout. One
of these ways can easily be deciphered as intuition. The essential gut feeling can swallow up any other
reliable source solely because of a certain unexplainable phenomena pulling the heart and mind in
polar directions. Initially, it is Truman s intuition that over powers his refuting thoughts and this is
demonstrated when Truman explains his theory to Marlon, who then proceeds to invalidate it. This
leaves Truman empty handed and with a lack of reliable sources, except his intuition. The memory of
Sylvia s statement was the bases of Truman s instinctiveness and other events such as the sight of his

At the start of the film, Truman believes that he has a clear understanding of the reality in which he is
presented, but only through his mere sight. Eyes have a tendency to be deceiving, therefore, it should
take more than one out of the five senses to be reassured of a particular belief. The film follows
Truman as he soon begins to become skeptical of his surroundings, which in turn become the initial
cause of his route to discovering the truth. The doubt that beings to form within Truman, caused by his
sense of sight, could not support him entirely until it merges with his sense of touch. This is heavily
depicted in the duration of the final few scenes where Truman s ship collides with the sky. Despite
Truman seeing the solid plaster wall as a supposed sky, the moment he touches the wall with his bare

utter shock from realization. Forms of sense perception were put forth in order to convince Truman of

Safety
There were many hazards in the context of this experiment in some of the chemicals we used that we
needed to be aware of.
Using ethanol was a hazard as it was highly flammable above 13ºC and had a narcotic effect as a
result of inhalation of the vapour. It is also dangerous with oxidising agents as uncontrollable reactions
take place. To prepare for these hazards we needed to keep the solution away from the bunsen flame
and wear goggles in case any uncontrollable reactions happened.
The sodium dichromate we used was very toxic and could cause cancer by inhalation and was harmful
if swallowed or if contacted with skin sensitisation could occur. Ulceration also could have occurred
on damaged skin. It is also dangerous with combustible materials as it forms explosive or vigorously
burning mixtures. To prepare for this hazard we needed to be careful not to spill any and to wear lab

Sulphuric acid that we used is very corrosive and can cause severe burns. It is dangerous with sodium

The assumption held by many that Napoleon Bonaparte was a brilliant general and an exceptional

His plan backfired, and the French were pinned down in Egypt by the powerful British admiral
Horiato Nelson, which led to Napoleon crawling back to France licking his wounds (McDougal, 584).
Due to the public s ignorance towards this defeat, Napoleon s public image vastly improved, and his
gain in power started to lead to totalitarianism. When the Directory began to lose political popularity
with the common folk, Napoleon led an overthrow of the government (McDougal, 584). The
aftermath of the coup seemed to be flawless; peace had come to Europe for the first time in ten years,
and Napoleon, the most powerful public figure in France, could now focus on re strengthening France
(McDougal, 585). However, the countries of Britain, Austria, and Russia were forming the Second
Coalition, an alliance with the intent to stop Napoleon, behind the scenes of France s post victory
glory (McDougal, 585). Napoleon soon held a plebiscite, or a vote by the people, which made himself
emperor and bestowed total power upon him (McDougal, 585).
As the years passed, Napoleon made many fatal military mistakes that led to the collapse of his empire
and the defiling of the French Revolution s legacy. These mistakes were terminal in three main
campaigns, the Battle of Trafalgar, the Peninsular War, and the invasion attempt on Russia (Wilde, 2).

Analysis Of The Poem Howl
Historic Analysis of Howl Howl was a poem written by Allen Ginsberg in 1956. For us to understand
the poem it is necessary for us to understand the history behind the poem. Howl was published in
1956, right after the devastating World War II. After WWII that s when the American dream was in

for a better living. At the same time media was becoming big and powerful gaining trust from citizens
while television was on its peak being the most important part of the media growth as it exported an

news transmitted to them on the comfort of their houses, others worked hard to get a movement

arts of literature written by them. Ginsberg s Howl was Beat generation s first heartbeat, as the poem

Evolution Vs. Creationism Debate
In this paper I will be explaining two sides of the evolution vs. creationism debate. The topics I am
going to write about are fossil evidence, the origin of life, and Darwin s theory of natural selection. I
will be presenting a view of both sides of the argument they will be on the creation side and evolution
standpoint. I would suggest that you, the reader, would have a previous knowledge of all the topics so
that you may get a full understanding of both sides. If there is no prior knowledge of one side or
another know that not all people that have beliefs in any of these topics agree with all of these
standings.
There will be three topics discussed that will provide a view of two sides of the argument on the way
that life happened upon earth. For the views of fossil evidence I will present the ideas of relative
dating, this is the assumption that the lower layers of strata are older than the ones atop. For the
creationist, view that a Great Flood happened. The next topic is the origin of life. For the two views I
will present the Miller Urey experiment why it proves evolution and why it doesn t. For my final topic
I will present Darwin s ideas of natural selection why it proves evolution and why it does not.
Fossil evidence is a leading example of why evolution is true. If you open any biology text book you
will find a section on fossils and relative dating. Relative dating is the science of taking fossils from

card to play. In a meeting between Best, Mildner, and the plenipotentiary s deputy and old friend, SS
Brigadeführer Paul Kanstein, who would later be involved in the July 20, 1944 assassination attempt
on Hitler as the would be new head of the German security police, it was decided that a warning
should be issued to the Jewish community. This warning would be leaked by Best s confidant, Georg
Ferdinand Duckwitz.
Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz is a celebrated figure regarding Holocaust resistance and has been
recognized as one of the Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem since 1971. He was born in
Bremen, Germany in 1904 and became involved in the international coffee trade after college,
spending much time in Scadinavia. He joined the Nazi Party in 1932 but later drifted away from the
movement. However, in 1939 the Foreign Ministry appointed him the German maritime attaché
stationed in Copenhagen, responsible for coordinating commercial shipping between the two
countries. As he had previously worked in Denmark before the war, his knowledge of Danish affairs
and their language made him a valuable asset. When Best arrived in Denmark in late 1942, he and
Duckwitz soon became good friends. Their families were known to socialize privately and Best
trusted Duckwitz s counsel on Danish affairs. Duckwitz served as a confidant to Best, who clearly

Why Is Skidmore Guilty
In real true court cases there is always evidence that can be shown and provided to the jury in order to
persuade peoples opinions in finding someone guilty or not guilty. In this case, I am very influenced in
believing that Skidmore if found guilty in poisoning his brother. The author, Paul Haven, has an
outstanding perspective to influence the readers. In the excerpt, The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel ,
there are several ideas that are conveying the audience to believe that Skidmore is guilty of poisoning
his brother Manchester.
To begin, the first significant example for proving that Skidmore is guilty is that he was the only
person that didn t like Manchester. Skidmore has a burning hatred for his brother, some people could
say he is jealous due to everyone s love for him. In the excerpt, The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel , it
states, Everyone loved Boddlebrooks. Everyone, that is, except his younger brother, Skidmore by this
statement it simply proves that he is the only person that could possibly hate his brother enough to
commit such an action to poison such a loving and caring guy. No one else could have possibly done
the crime except Skidmore, this is a prime example on why people believe he is guilty. Everyone ...

One of the reasons that Skidmore loathes Manchester is because Manchester absolutely loves bubble
gum. Everything that Manchester loves has to do with bubble gum, even his mansion is painted his
favorite bubble gum flavor. Despite how much Manchester loves bubble gum, Skidmore despises it
mainly because of how allergic he was to bubble gum. The excerpt mentions, Skidmore saw his
brother s sweet, chewable candies as a personal insult This shows that he hated his brother and that he
most likely poisoned his brother due to the fact that he couldn t be around him because of how deathly
allergic he is to his bubble gum fanatic

Ethical Dilemmas Of Police Officers
Introduction Law enforcers are supposed to hold the ideals of honesty, integrity and responsibility at
all times in the line of duty. This is even more profound for police officers whose work should always
inspired confidence among the communities they serve and protect. In fact, one of the core values that
police officers ought to uphold at all times is inspiring public trust. A huge percentage of police
officers use their positions and authority to serve the public while upholding the highest standards of
ethics at all times. However, on most occasions, just like in any other profession, law enforcers are
faced with a multitude of ethical dilemmas. Ethical dilemmas occur when an officer faces a situation
where he does not know the right course of action, when the course of action considered as right is
difficult to follow or when following the wrong course of action was very tempting.
One of the greatest dilemmas that police officers face on a daily basis is with regard to obtaining and
or using confidential information. This is the most sensitive ethical issue that has faced the police
force over the past decade. The advent of digital information communication technology has a huge
potential of enhancing policing activities. However, most of the information that has the ability to
enhance policing is mostly held confidentially. Following the enactment of the Intelligence
Authorization act, police were given the authority to request data on when, where and for how

  • 2. Default Judgements Analysis Respecting both human and cultural differences in a society is vital as a society can only wholly prosper when respect is mutual among all parties. In order for respect to be mutual among everyone, default judgements need to be fully brought to an end. It is important for the issue of default judgements to be resolved as they negatively impact societies as a whole, whether that be a group of people or even an individual person. As previously stated, default judgements create just one singular story for an entire group of people. A person is more than just what appears at face value as there is always more to one than a single label. As Adichie discussed in her previously mentioned speech, a professor in the United States of America suggested ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The work of the likes of Anthony Bourdain and Iris Zaki have helped in overcoming the danger of a single story in that they show true images of people in countries such as Iran, thus allowing people to better understand them. If people develop a better understanding of Iranians, then there is a great opportunity that any default judgements about them may be vanquished. In Bourdain s work, the Iranian people are shown as overall friendly people, that enjoy conversing, listening to pop music, as well as eating dishes such as chelow kebabs. It is also discussed in his work how Middle Eastern countries, such as Iran, are all grouped into one by foreigners in that they are all oppressive to women. It is stated in Bourdain s work that not all countries in the Middle East are oppressive to women in the vein of how Saudi Arabia is. It is stated that unlike in Saudi Arabia, women are able to partake in activities such as driving and voting in Iran. Through watching Bourdain s work, one may be able to see Iranian people for who they truly are rather than what they are portrayed as in one s own default judgement. As for Zaki s work, both Arab and Jewish women eat and converse at a hair salon named Fifi s . Although both the Arab and Jewish women come from very different cultures, they develop an understanding and respect for one another through their time at the salon. They accept each other for who they are as they have a clear understanding of one another through the conversations that they have had. Through these understandings of one another, the danger of a single story can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Examples Of Hubris In The Necklace And The Cask Of... One is a story of revenge and murder, the other a story of greed and materialism. On the surface, the short stories appear quite different, but at their heart, a similar drive beats within the three main characters, determining their actions and altering the pathways of their lives. The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe is a story of the proud Montresor, obsessed with getting revenge on the foolish Fortunato. The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, is a story of a beautiful woman who felt she belonged to an upper class but was forced to live a banal, ordinary life. While the plots of these two short stories are different, the central characters all share the overarching quality of an obsessive pride hubris. This hubris comes in many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And the motto? Nemo me impune lacessit (Poe 1). Simply translated, this means no one provokes me with impunity. The family motto indicates that pride of family honor has been a long standing and well guarded trait. Montresor s ancestry and history of pride elevates his grievance against Fortunato, and evokes an attack because he dared to belittle Montresor s honorable name. In fact, Montresor s pride is still so great, and his remorse so little, that he continues to gasconade about his revenge fifty years after the event. The pride of his family name forces Montresor to murder Fortunato, conclusively and irreversibly directing his decisions throughout the short story. In The Cask of Amontillado , Montresor is not the only character who displays an overwhelming and ultimately detrimental sense of pride. Also identify the circumstances that affect the accuracy of perceptions in identifying strangers. Memories can be influenced by time, emotion, prejudices, and intentions. It is important to understand how the mind processes memories and how that could apply to criminal justice. Psychologists separate memory into three phases: acquisition of memory, retention of memory, and retrieval of memory [1]. Acquisition of memory is when information is first received in the mind. Retention of memory is the period of time between acquisition and retrieval: this is an on going process of storing this information, and when memories can be influenced most. Lastly, ... • 5. Data Sheets Of Multiphase Pumps The current study is an effort to analyse existing secondary data which includes professional journals, industry reports, past research on related topics and data sheets of multiphase pumps (MPPs) so as to understand the efficiencies and advantages brought in by MPPs in multiphase pumping conditions. The study also attempts to provide a general criterion of a pump for a particular process during production. It is understood that fluids pumped from off shore oil wells will essentially pump multiphase fluids at all times up to separation stage. Also, oil wells undergo changes in gas volume fraction and watercut during the lifecycle of the well including testing, installation, initial phase of pumping, in established and operational oil wells, an aging oil well and during abandonment. The criterion to choose a multiphase boosting solution for any oil well system is very subjective and in most cases is dependent on the pump manufacturer or system packager data. Such a situation may result in over dependence on the vendors and probably camouflage other available technologies or limitations in the known technology. The study will compare both the manufacturer data sheets as well as the available data on multiphase pump performance in oil wells across the globe. The available literature on the subject only indicates that certain type of pump is suitable for a given application but does not provide a generalized set of criterion for deciding up on a pump for a particular field ... The final purpose of this process is to control, regulate, and coordinate the functioning of the human body. This hormone (parathyroid hormone) affects the bones, kidney, and intestine (Shier et al., 2009). Adrenal glands are endocrine glands that sit atop the kidneys (Shier et al., 2009). She further highlights this feeling when she again focuses on her appearance when she mentions how she is a cow in calf (7). Many women would feel disrespected if called a cow and the fact that Plath portrays herself as one, she allows the reader to see her true feelings of her pregnancy and that she might, in fact, wish she was not. The newness of pregnancy has worn off and now she is left with a sour taste and realization as if she had eaten a bag of green apples (8). Nearly all assets to a candidate for political office, such a media advertisements, travel expenses and campaign supplies rely on fiscal support. In an age when electronic media rules supreme, money has never been more important. Today, it has become necessary for political campaigns to pour massive amounts of funding into television, Internet, radio and print ads in order to run a competitive campaign. This movement was inspired in part by the role of the Committee to Re Elect the President, and in 1974 was amended with the passage of the Bi Partisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA) to form the Federal Election Commission (Smith 1,3). The FEC was tasked with overseeing campaign fundraising and enforcing the FECA, which was the first step toward full transparency and equality of political campaigns (FEC 1). Not only did the BCRA set limits on donations to political campaigns and organizations, but also required campaigns to report the source of major donations, as well as restricting the use of soft money (IGM 2, 107th Congress 47). • 31. Seamus Heaney s Peninsula Essay Seamus Heaney is a famous Irish poet who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1995 and is considered by many to be the most interesting Irish poet since William Yeats, who likewise won a Noble Prize in his day. Heaney s literature frequently communicates the rather tranquil setting of his home land, Ireland, and in particular the North of the country, where he was born. (BBC News Magazine Faces of the week , 19 January 2007) His unique portrayal of Ireland s countryside lead to his Noble Prize and the Swedish Academy mounting praise on him for works of lyrical beauty and ethical depth (New York Times, October 6 1995, by William Grimes). It suggests to the reader that all the information that has been taken in, all this scenery at the peninsula, is just an image in the mind and only in an inspired and skilled wordsmith can the written word on page come close to realising the true beauty of these spectacular sights. Heaney describes this peninsula as a land without marks , which really represents Ireland as a whole, with its proud ancestry and peaceful countryside, with endless silent fields. This reinforces Heaney s idea of uncoding the scene. This land without marks is a silent landscape, which sits dormant, waits to be seen and heard and one must have the skill to read what one sees and hears and form that into words on paper. Also the fact that in this land with no marks one can only merely pass through and not arrive conveys the land s starvation of its ancestors imprints and creations, so much so that it is difficult to recognise one part from another. One could conclude that it is not just the narrator that is struggling to express himself, but that the landscape itself is also inarticulate. • 32. Examples Of Determinism In Arrival Determinism and Free Will in Arrival If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things? This is one of the heaviest hitting questions in the movie Arrival and it serves as the philosophical launching point for my discussion here. This question comes from the main character Louise directed at her future husband. As the movie progresses, we as viewers learn that the main character Louise has been given the ability to see into the future. Part of these visions include the death of her future daughter to a rare disease at a young age. Yet, even though she can see these events of the future and even though she knows of the pain and suffering they will bring, she still chooses to follow the same course of her life because she recognizes some type of greater purpose. To do so, we require a different understanding of time, one that transcends our standard linear notions of a past, present, and future. By having a being towards death understanding, we begin to see everything in relation to the now. This understanding applies directly to our understanding of our mortality. Initially, it is Truman s intuition that over powers his refuting thoughts and this is demonstrated when Truman explains his theory to Marlon, who then proceeds to invalidate it. His plan backfired, and the French were pinned down in Egypt by the powerful British admiral Horiato Nelson, which led to Napoleon crawling back to France licking his wounds (McDougal, 584). Due to the public s ignorance towards this defeat, Napoleon s public image vastly improved, and his gain in power started to lead to totalitarianism. When the Directory began to lose political popularity with the common folk, Napoleon led an overthrow of the government (McDougal, 584). The aftermath of the coup seemed to be flawless; peace had come to Europe for the first time in ten years, and Napoleon, the most powerful public figure in France, could now focus on re strengthening France (McDougal, 585).
