Miller s allegorical work, The Crucible, very few characters can be deemed completely innocent.
While just about every person in this story has a flaw of envy, pride, or selfishness, characters can
often be sorted into the accuser or accused categories. One exception to this is Mary Warren.
Throughout the story, her loyalties switch back and forth between these two sides. Due to this,
she may seem like a selfish and unsympathetic character; that is not the case, however. Mary
Warren is an abused and manipulated child, whose decisions in the story are certainly justified,
given her situation. The first we see of Mary is when Betty falls ill after the the girls are caught
congregating in the woods. Immediately, we see she is terrified, fully aware that them being

Miracle: Healing the Nobleman s Son
The second miracle involved a nobleman s son. The nobleman s son was very sick and lived in
Capernaum. The nobleman heard that Jesus was coming into Galilee, and approaches Him and
ask if He would heal his dying son. Jesus replies, that unless ye see signs and wonders ye will not
believe. John 4:48 According to Dr. Towns, this miracle showed power over space. Jesus did not
travel to the man s son to perform the act, but performed the miracle from a distance. Twice John
mentions the faith of the nobleman. First, he believed the word that Jesus spoke to him (John
4:50) Later, when that word was confirmed, he himself believed (John 4:53). The first expression
of faith was faith in the spoken word of God, and the second expression of faith was in the
incarnate Word of God. This sign was significant in that not only the father believed but also his
whole household, which would include not only his family but also his servants. This is the first
example of salvation to all that believe. [5] The nobleman comes to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
and he brings his whole family with him. For it says in verse 53, And himself believed and his

Hall writes poems inspired by his memories of the past and thoughts regarding his future. On
September 20, 1928, Hall was born in Hamden, Connecticut. Throughout his childhood, Hall was
influenced by the works of the American writer, Edgar Allen Poe ( Donald Hall ). When he was
only sixteen, Hall had his first poem published. He studied at Harvard University, University of
Oxford, and Stanford University. In 1957, he began teaching English at the University of
Michigan. After meeting his wife at the University of Michigan, the couple moved back to his
grandfather s farm where he had spent many summers as a boy. Both he and his wife suffered from

His careful attention to detail allows him to captivate readers whether he is employing structured
rhyme, meter, blank verse, or prose ( Donald Hall ). Many of his poems are inspired by his
childhood on the farm, love for his wife, and his reflections on old age and death.
In an interview with psychiatrist John Martin Joy, Hall addresses poetry, aging, and loss. Hall
chooses to view aging in a positive light, and although he has stopped publishing his poetry, he
continues to write because of the joy it brings to his life. In addition, he explains the crippling
depression both him and his wife faced, especially after her death. When the interviewer had
asked him if he was afraid of death, he responded, At eighty seven only an idiot would be afraid of

After reading, The Back Chamber written by Donald Hall, I can appreciate his use of concrete
words and images. His poems were easy to understand and compelling. The subject matter he
chose for this collection of poems includes childhood memories on the farm, love, sex, baseball,
and his experiences with old age. Although the inside of the cover claims that the book is far from
being death haunted , I found many of the poems rather depressing because of their nostalgic

To Edward Bloom, his life was about making his own seem as extraordinary as possible. But, as
the readers of Big Fish, we can clearly see through the lies in Edward s stories. Edward Bloom
wanted to seem like a hero, and so he wove lies into the truths of his stories. He truly was a
salesman which is evident through the description William Bloom, Edward s son, provides of
his comfortable life at home. William has everything he could possibly need, except for one
thing. He does not have a dependable Father who is constantly there for him during the entirety
of his life. Simply described, Edward was a man who couldn t sit still, and he had no routine to

is that it wasn t. He was simply born on the day the drought ended; he did not bring the rain with

beginning, such as Edward s birthday being the day the drought ended, to stories no longer even

pondering is the day that Edward moves own from his human life and turns into a fish. It is easy
for me to conclude Edward Bloom s human life was one that was not so significant, he was
merely a salesman who was not a dependable part of his family s life. He truly did go to college,
marry the girl he loved. He definitely had a son, a comfortable life, and he was constantly away
from his family. His stories are absurd, and so I am able to separate the lies from the truths. And
yet, the end of his life is so hard to understand. He loses his human form and becomes a huge fish,

Vlad was the Prince of the Wallachian kingdom (also referred as the Voivode of Wallachia, which
means the same) in three different occasions which nowadays doesn t exist, but it was located at the

This theory of mine came to my mind because I thought that it was a similar practise and a
coincidence between the two characters because in both, it was necessary the use of a steak to kill
someone.
However, I have found some web pages that explain the same thought I once had in your class, so
I am going to let the bibliographic reference of one of them at the end of the essay to let you know.
The last think I want to talk about in this essay is about the movie Bram Stoker s Dracula from
the director Francis Ford Coppola. At the beginning of this movie, it is explained how the
character of Dracula became a vampire and it is said that he was a warrior called Draculea, from
the Order of the Dragon, who fought to protect the Christian world. What s more, in the scene
where Dracula welcomes Jonathan Harker into his castle, there is a conversation about a picture
hanging in a wall. Harker asks the Count who is the man on the picture and he tells him that it is
an ancestor of him from the order of the Dragon.

Both of these businesses have much to gain from lobbying. Big Pharma refers to the group of
the biggest pharmaceutical companies, including corporations such as Gilead Sciences, Johnson

Forrest Gump The movie Forrest Gump uses flashback to narrate the Forrest s story. Forrest sits

Madam C. J. Walker was a black philanthropist, an entrepreneur, a social and political activist. She
was born as Sarah Breedlove, on the 23rd of December 1867 and died on the 25th of May 1919.
She was widely recognized as one of the wealthiest women in the country as well as the very first
female self made millionaire. She used her company, which she founded, Madame C. J. Walker
Manufacturing as her business frontier (Walker and Bundles 208). Her business was quite
successful in developing and advertising a hair and beauty products for black women. Through her
business, she ventured into philanthropy and activism. She made numerous financial donations to
many organizations, and she also became a patron of the arts. Her extravagant estate served the
purpose of a gathering venue for many African Americanpeople. Following her death, the Madame
Walker Theatre Centre opened in 1927 to ensure her legacy remained.

Minerva Breedlove, who were former slaves enslaved to Robert W. Burney s Madison Parish.

industrialization, consumerism, and urbanization. With these increases a Mass Consumerism
movement began and effected the middle class more than others. From the increase in

mother and childhood, which are brought up at a wrong moment by a memory. The poet,
similarly to Sylvia Plath, wrote this poem when he was experiencing these emotions after he lost
his mother who he was very close with. The loss is first presented in the lines, A child sitting
under the piano, in the boom of the tingling strings And pressing the small, poised feet of a
mother who smiles as she sings. This creates a very vivid picture and therefore later on in the
poem causes the speaker to miss his mother and childhood. By pressing the small, poised feet the
speaker was helping and interacting with his mother, who was dear and kind to him as suggested

next sentence the speaker uses a word betrays me back which suggest that he does not want to

This project aims to further develop the experimental side of documentary practice, with special
focus on ethnography. It will take the form of an experimental documentary juxtaposing enactments
of the past with depictions of the present, through a case study focusing on North Eastern Romanian
villages, engaging villagers into re enactments of traditional life from the past as method of
documenting their self reflection on the transition to the present.
The setting of the re enactments is based on the Romanian ballad The Little Ewe and more
specifically on the journey described in the Mihail Sadoveanu novel inspired by it, The Hatchet
(1930). These two texts are widely known in Romania having become compulsory reading material
in schools as one of the four fundamental myths of Romanians and a monographic representation of
the Romanian village and its customs respectively. The main themes of the two stories are
transhumance and death, both highlighting the traditions and the way of life of shepherding
communities. Furthering the reasons for this choice, these texts have become engrained into the
collective consciousness of Romanian people as to become an unconscious memory.
Its relevance within ethnographic practice is given by the documentation of the transition process
from traditional to modernity within the Romanian village, as well as its universal exploration of
humans facing change and their ways to adapt to it.
