2. Conjugal Violence In Social Work
Routine Activities Along with these two amazing projects, I also engaged in administrative
work like answering phones, taking messages, making calls, notifying the social workers and
cultural intermediaries that their clients have arrived, ensuring that the client is comfortable,
and so forth. One thing that will remain memorable was when I answered the phone and a man
explained called for a friend because he feared that his friend was in danger of being killed by
her husband and asked whether there was space at SOAFS s emergency shelter. With this crisis
call, I realized how conjugal violence is a very serious issue in Quebec, and it showed me the
how severe some people s cases can be. Not only was I shaken, but I was also in awe at how
calmly and with such poise the social workers are when dealing with these types of situation.
Additionally, I realized that these are the types of situation that the social workers need to deal with

4. Essay on Mise-en-scene in Citizen Kane and Persona
Mise en scene in Citizen Kane and Persona
Mise en scene is the principle by which a piece of film will derive its meaning wholly from what
happens in the single shot and not from the relationship between two shots. For example the
director might include shots with various composition, angle, depth, movement, and lighting.
Citizen Kane has many good examples to show Mise on scene usage. The scene that I believe is
the most significant and powerful mise en scene that I have this seen this semester exists in this
movie. This occurs when the parents of the young boy are speaking with a gentleman in the house.
As the people are speaking we see the boy playing in the snow as we look into the background
through the window. This scene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The camera is moving many times as the three people who seem to be the focus of the scene are
moving. However, the real point of the shot lies with the boy in the background which is never not
in the shot. Another movie that had a great impact on me was Persona. There were many important
scenes in this film, but there was one example of mise en scene that sticks out in my mind. This
is the scene when the nurse is chasing the actress along the seashore. The actress is walking
swiftly away from her along rocks, while the nurse is trying her hardest to catch up to her. This
scene comes directly after the nurse yells at the mute actress and slaps her across the face. It
seems the whole movie she is trying to be nice to this woman and the one time that she stands up
to her, she runs away. The nurse is begging for forgiveness. This scene really proves how weak
the nurse is emotionally and mentally. She is sobbing and in a state of hysteria and the actress
still will not forgive her. This reveals a lot of the actress s persona too. It shows that she does not
really care much for the nurse, even though she is just trying to help her. The scene ends with the
actress walking off and the nurse running in the opposite direction towards the water. She stumbles
and cries and then the scene is over. This scene tells us, the audience a lot about the personality of
both women not just in this scene but in their lives. The nurse is a caring woman

5. The Civil Rights Act Did Not Happen Over Night
The Civil Rights Act did not happen over night; however, many fought for it and soon prevailed.
During John F Kennedy s presidency the Civil Rights Act was begun. The bill was called for by
President John F. Kennedy address of the nation on June 11, 1963. The President gave a speech
asking for a law giving all Americans the right to be served in all places which are open to the
public Motels, restaurants, movies, clothing stores, as well as the right to vote . President
Kennedy made this speech after protests from the Black community about how they were being
mistreated, the most current being the Birmingham campaign which ended in May 1963. There
were many factors to the civil rights act of 1964 from presidents to normal civilians . In today s
society the Civil Rights Act is allowing equal opportunities for everyone. The Civil Rights was
not just an act it was a movement fought for almost twenty years. Starting in 1948 with Truman s
executive order 9981 that gave equality in the military (infoplease.com, Brunner). Then in 1054
the case of Brown versus Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, was finalized with the decision
that segregation within public schools was wrong. In august of 1955 the tragedy of Emmett Till
occurred, where he was brutally murdered. There are many more effects of the Civil Rights act,
but these were some of the turning points. Truman s Executive order was filed during world war

Radar works by transmitting strong but short pulses of radio energy into the air in a certain
direction using whats called an antenna these pulses bounce off metallic objects such as ships or
aircrafts they bounce back to the antenna these signals are then converted to a signal which is
shown on a screen. Heinrich hertz in the late 19th century was experimenting and he showed that
radio waves were reflected by metallic objects. But It wasn t until the early 20th century that new
systems were able to use these principles. But it was the German inventor Christian HГјlsmeyer

Friedman views the consumer as strong and is totally interested in efficiency. He does note
however the FDA had done a good job of keeping us from harmful medication. The Cunningham s
objective of their research was to determine how many individuals in various sectors of society
know about the consumer protection laws and their rights as consumers. These were included, but
not limited to false advertising, false retail advertising, credit regulations, credit cards, labeling,
truth in lending and deceptive retail practices. These authors view the consumer relatively weak
due to a lack of knowledge. They also feel the low incomes are no match for the sophisticated
marketer. There these authors are interested in equity. The most important implication derives from
the lack of information demonstrated by all income segments of the consumer sample. This
situation suggests that what is needed is not more and tougher laws, but rather more information
made available to ore individuals concerning their rights as consumers. The present research has
demonstrated that one other variable is important: with the exception of a few areas of the law,
both consumers and attorneys know very little about their rights as consumers. This was
particularly true in areas such as door door selling, false or deceptive advertising, false or deceptive
retail practices. More and better information concerning consumers rights must be provided to

11. Western Christians In Global Missions Chapter Summary
Western Christians in global mission review
Western Christians in global missions by Paul Borthwick is about the interdependence and unity of
the global Church. The book starts at the conclusion of an era of missions where North America has
taken the helm. As the global missions community changes, North America needs to reassess its
role. There are 4 main integrated points that Borthwick makes that should change the perspective of
the white American middle class missionary. The greater part of evangelical Christians are no
longer in North America. The majority world has just as much if not more missionary activity than
North America. The North American Church needs to form partnerships not dictatorships. Finally,
Borthwick weaves throughout the book the idea that the North American Church has something to
learn from the majority world Church. Some estimate that 70 percent of the worlds bible believing
Christians (as opposed to nominal or cultural Christians) now live in the majority world. 1 This
reality should entirely changes the way we think about missions. If the greater part of Christians no

The research topic I plan to focus on involves studying the experiences of African American males
who have formed mentoring relationships as undergraduates, particularly when the mentor is a
Black male and the relationship takes place at Clemson or other PWIs in the south. In my opinion,
these relationships can have a profound impact on a student s ability to persist towards graduating
from college. Though my research, I want to hear the experiences of Black males who have
benefited from successful mentoring relationships with other Black men. As a mentor, I believe
that establishing a strong mentoring relationship with Black males at a young age can greatly
improve their chance of academic success. Furthermore, I believe that mentoring is a strong early
intervention mechanism to prevent Black males from dropping out of high school and deterring
them from pursuing degrees in higher education. At the same time, I would like my research
interest to focus on African Americanmales in the south, but I would like my scope to focus on
mentoring relationships between black men; both structured and unstructured. The Schott
Foundations Report (2008) on public education does a great job spelling out the educational
inequities in graduation rates and achievement gaps impacting African American males in the
United States, particularly in the south. The Schott Foundation on Public Education mission is to

13. Anselm s Existence of God Refuted Essay
Anselm s Existence of God Refuted
Anselm s Existence of God Refuted
If the only proofs for the existence of God were Aquinas s five ways and Anselm s ontological
argument, in my opinion, Anselm provides the best reasoning. I am not saying that Anselm s
argument is good, or even valid, but just that given the set of proofs by Aquinas and Anselm,
Anselm s is better.
Anselm argues, in effect, that the existence of God is built into the very concept of God. He
proceeds by a form of argument called reductio ad absurdum reduction to absurdity. He attempts to
show that the position of the fool the non believer who has said in his heart, There is no God is
incoherent and leads to absurdity. (Cottingham, 1996: 246)
How does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, just because something exists in the understanding, we would not normally conclude that
it also exists in reality. As Anselm himself points out, a painter may have the completed work of art
in his mind, but that does not make it a real painting. (Cottingham, 1996: 246)
What Anselm tries to show next is that in this case, having an idea in the understanding requires
one to admit that the thing exists in reality as well. For suppose that God exists only in the
understanding. Then we can conceive of a greater being: one who exists in reality as well.
Moreover, that would mean that this God who exists only in the understanding is not the greatest
conceivable being. (Cottingham, 1996: 246)
Now we have a contradiction.
Now come to the case of God. The GCB would have to be wise, because a wise being is greater
than a being that is not wise. In addition, the GCB would have to be just, because justice is better
than injustice. What Anselm is claiming is that the GCB must also exist, because a being that exists
in reality is greater than one that exists merely in the understanding. So:
It would be a contradiction to say; God (the GCB) is not wise
It would be a contradiction to say, God is not just.
In addition, it would be a contradiction to say, God does not exist.
There are many arguments as to why Anselm s argument is invalid. I have chosen three of them,
and have illustrated how these arguments make Anselm s

15. The Impact Of War In A Separate Peace, By John Knowles
Imagine going to war right after graduating high school. How would you feel if you or your
friends had to go to war right after graduating? How do you think a war would impact your life if
you had to go to war right after graduating? War plays a key role in the story, A Separate Peace, by
John Knowles. Throughout A Separate Peace, the outcome of the waris showcased. The impacts of
war can be overwhelming and disheartening but can also be beneficial for some individuals. War
is capable of completely changing an individual s life. In A Separate Peace, this message is seen
when war impacts Phineas, Leper, and Gene remarkably.
To begin, the impact war has on Phineas s life is clearly demonstrable.War has dramatically
changed his life, he views everything in a different perspective and tries to relate almost
everything to war. Phineas jumps off the tree branches into the river because he thinks it helps
him prepare for war and believes it makes him a man. In Devon School, it is forbidden to jump
into the river. Despite the fact that jumping out of the tree is forbidden, Phineas continues to jump
out of the tree, showing his manliness. Phineas believes he has to jump out of the tree because
[he is] getting ready for the war (Knowles 22). One particular event when Phineas attempts to

16. The Potentinal for Ozone in BTEX-Contaminated Sites
Ozone is a highly oxidative chemical known to be capable of degrading many types of organic
contaminants, including both chemicals and organisms. It is known in the grain industry to be
useful for disinfecting cereals without affecting quality of the cereal. This includes microbial
inactivation, killing pests, degrading certain pesticides and fungicides, and mycotoxins (Tiwari et
al. 2010). Ozone also has an important role in the treatment of wastewater for similar reasons. It is
used in the treatment train at both the Alfred Merritt Smith and River Mountains treatment plants
in Las Vegas (SNWA 2014). The ozonation processes in these plants kill off bacteria and
microorganisms by bubbling ozone into the wastewater. As ozone dissipates within several minutes,
no residue is left after treatment, though certain disinfection byproducts can potentially be formed
depending on the constituents in the wastewater, and the placement of ozonation in the treatment
train (Gerrity et al. 2010). Certain organic contaminants of interest, including ___, tend to have long
half lives and low water solubility, which can make traditional and natural forms of remediation
ineffective. The past decade has shown that ozone can be used in the remediation of contaminated
soils, primarily by in situ ozonation systems. As mentioned previously, ozone is an unstable
chemical that has a half life of around two minutes (Dey, Rosenwinkel, Wheeler 2002). In the
process of oxidation, ozone reacts with

The autonomous vehicle is a vehicle that can drive itself without having human input. These
vehicles are programmed with complex algorithms to mimic human behavior, but also operate on
a level of consistency that humans have a hard time replicating. As we move into a new era of
transportation, automotive vehicles are going to help change the way society operates. Why
change a system that we have been using for over one hundred years? In the automobiles of today,
we have to get in and manually give the car inputs. Since human error is natural, a lot can go

One vital way in which autonomous vehicles will dramatically alter society is that they will have
a tremendous impact on police forces around the world, potentially cutting the need for them in
half. Much of the day to day work for police and law enforcement is to enforce traffic rules and
responding to accidents. Having autonomous vehicles would mean fewer police would be needed
for these tasks.
According to McKinsey, their projects are trying to promote that in the future, autonomous
vehicles will free up huge amounts of parking space, reduce auto accidents and allow people to
have more time to enjoy TV shows, movies and digital media. Inside of the autonomous
vehicles, the interiors will become more like living rooms, allowing people to get more sleep

models and self employment opportunities. Since we will not be required to operate the vehicles,
our time in front of a computer screen will increase. People will view thirty to forty percent more

Keats, a man who, upon experiencing a great deal in his short 25 years, realized through these
painfully human experiences that beauty is an idea that exists in a state of infinity, however our
enjoyment of this beauty is ever changing. Thus, we begin to contradict ourselves, and wish
simultaneously for both the permanent beauty of an event or feeling as well as the unreachable
joy for more. Keats two poems, Ode to a Grecian Urn and Ode to a Nightingalediscuss these
opposing ideals, and build off of each other in a way that is comparable to a student educating...

Initially, he writes of generations mowing down those before them, as is the natural progression
of life. As generations age, the ones behind them step up to take their place, and so on and so

by praising the immortal bird. However, in Grecian Urn there is no sense of fear. He is
describing the same succession of life, however, it is more of a sullen acceptance rather than a
fearful cry. Perhaps this is due to the state of his health that is in constant decline that causes him to
accept the cycle of life. Regardless, the shift in tone shows the idea that Walter Jackson Batecreated

In this class I did not expect to become so intrigued about early life and the growth of how early
hominids developed. I thought that I was taught most of how we early humans developed and
came to be. Realizing that I did not I looked deeper into the study of different types of monkeys,
apes, and gorillas, especially the study Dian Fossey did on Titus. With this study it began to

humans and primates had and how they came to interact between there communities I began to see
we have behaviors that are similar. Although altruistic behaviors has to do with relatives and their

Strength of the Human Spirit Revealed in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
Life can be incredibly hard at times; nearly everyone encounters a period of time when
circumstances become unbearably difficult. Imagine being assigned to ten years of unceasing and
tremendous hardships, as is the plight of the protagonist in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. This book describes in detail only one day of Ivan s ten year sentence

nearly frozen, overworked, and punished unjustly; however, as the day unfolds, it is obvious that

he and his gang will keep warm out on the field will be to work hard and fast, which will be

other gangs are just as weak as they are; no other gang receives any more food rations, or more

In a struggle for survival, nearly all human beings will gladly pawn their pain and hardships off

would act in such a situation. The symbolism is apparent when it is understood that humans, even
those who are not in such extreme positions of survival as a Russian work camp, act in this
manner. Ivan and his gang, in their time of desperate struggle, reflect the actions of average human
beings in simple, day to day struggles.

In excess of 600 billion dollars has been spent on the war in Iraq since it began in 2003, plus over
four thousand U.S. troops have died because of this war, and despite a struggling economy the
US government is keeping our troops in Iraq with no end in sight. The war in Iraq is a current
military operation that began, without a declaration of war, on March 20, 2003 and is still taking
place today in 2009(Thompson). Americans have been shielded from this war and have forgotten
why we went to war in the first place. Thus clarification is needed by the American public on why
the invasion on Iraqwas baseless, how the mismanagement is affecting our soldiers and what the
overall end result could be. Prior to the war, the governments of the United Statesand the United
Kingdom declared Iraq was suspected to possession weapons of mass destruction and this posed
an imminent danger to our security and our allies. The American public was led to believe that
Saddam Hussein had significant stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction and was equipped to
use them. Following the terror of September 11th by al Qaeda, the American public was
apprehensive of another vicious attack, and President Bush used this fear to justify his revenge
on Saddam Hussein. These weapons were one of the key reasons the public believed why we

Women place is in the home. That was the statement made by numerous labor union groups. They
resented women in the unions, they felt it was a man s place, they believed women belonged at

for women to break through the glass ceiling and make statements regarding conditions and

Barbara Mayer Wertheimer is an American historian and labor organizer; she specializes in
United States labor and gender history and she analyses women s work and their treatment in the
labor unions. She offers various perspectives of this in her book, We Were There: The Story of
Working Women in America. In Chapter 13, Women in Teaching and White Collar Jobs she

retail clerks, nursing and teaching. Her thesis states, But even though women were entering each of

When having to choose two works of art to compare and analyze, it had occurred to me that one

post impressionist movement, deciding to choose another painter from that movement worked out
well. I chose, Auvers, Panoramic View , painted by Paul Cezanne. A majority of people admiring

equally ruin their life. After winning the lottery they need to be smart with their money. Within the
first five years of winning the lottery around 70% of the winners will file for bankruptcy,
according to the National Endowment for Financial Education. When people strike it rich they
believe that they have all the money in the world and begin to spend or give away money without a

The history of stroke first started with Hippocrates, the father of medicine, who was the first to
identify stroke 2,400 years ago, during that decade stroke was known as apoplexy meaning in
Greek struck down by violence . This was due to the fact that a person developed sudden paralysis
and change in well being. This term continued until the mid 1660 s when Jacob Wepfer realized
that apoplexy is due to either bleeding within the brain or blockage inside one the brain veins. The
transformation of the term apoplexy to strokewas a major revolution in the history of stroke. Now
stroke is known as brain attack to show the urgency needed for an instant action.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that stroke caused 5.7 million deaths in

was impressive to look at that I wanted to be one of them. Needless to say, I am pro Cavalry. To

The film, Trail of Tears, and the lecture taught me a different side of the US Cavalry. My thought of
them as defender for those who cannot defend themselves became blurry. Maybe, as soldiers, who
sworn an oath to obey the President of the United State, they were following orders. For my
personal reflection, it is unbelievable that American history included death march and ethnic
cleansing. It is difficult to fathom that these events occurred America fought the British and drove
them away. I was assuming that the unification of American citizens would follow the revolutionary
war. But, when the Cherokee Indians were forced to their lands in Georgia and march towards
west of Mississippi, with soldiers and rifles aimed at them, it was a disturbing scenario to me. It
was even called the death march, perhaps because a quarter of the Cherokee Indians perished
during the march, in which many were elderly and children. The question that came into my mind
was, why did President Andrew Jackson picked the winter months to force the Cherokee Indians to
move. He could easily make it happen, but he did not.

Nanook of the North: Directed by Robert Flaherty, Nanook of the North (1922) is one of the most
famous travel films, or scenics, of all time. Flaherty spent years in Canada learning the culture of
the Inuit (eskimo) people there. What makes this story so captivating is that it is presented as more

and the harsh snowy environment as the antagonist. The way the footage was edited together
helped make the filminteresting, since many of the sequences by themselves are boring. After being

were being constructed and Poles were possible targets because, at the time, Poland was home to

Germany and was put under the Soviet Union s control. One cultural aspect Poles like to

the first movie to connect classical music with animations. Directed by James Algar and released in
1940, this movie was the first of its kind, using classical music and creating scenes with animations
around that music or vice versa. This movie contains eight musical segments all narrated by Deems
Taylor with different music and animations like Mickey Mouse, fairies, flowers, dinosaurs, figures
from mythology, animals, and spirits for each of the scenes. As... Show more content on

After falling asleep, the brooms had the room overflowed with water and Mickey could not find or
remember how to make them stop. As a matter of fact, in this case the story came first...and the
composer wrote the music to go with it. (Grant). In contrast to what Joe Grant wrote, none of the
other segments in Fantasia had the music created for the animation, the music was there first and
then created the animations based off of the music. Throughout the creation of this film, there
were over 700 animators that worked closely with director, James Algar to make sure every
detail of the animations were perfect. These animations were extraordinarily precise as objects
came to life or moved on the exact beats going along with the music. It simply takes the audience
into a magical world of what is going on throughout the segments whether it be with spirits or
dinosaurs. Starting out as a failure after being released and barely making any money, this movie
is one of a kind as it rose to fame and reached its peak as the 22nd most grossing film. Fantasia was
the result of many great relationships and collaborations in the Disney film industry, between the
animators, composers, musicians, producers, and directors. Fantasia was the first commercial film

42. A Crucifixion Outside The City Of Jerusalem
This painting depicts a crucifixion outside the city of Jerusalem, discernible by the centrally
planned church and rounded red rotunda in the background of the city. Rounded structures that
resemble towers align the walls of the city, another definitive element of the biblical city. Although
the painting clearly represents an idealized Jerusalem, it emulates a contemporary European town
of the Northern Renaissance age, with Gothic architecture and what resembles shops at the front of
the city. The painter also depicts the mountainous terrain of Jerusalem, but portrays greenery that
the actual desert city would not have. The contemporary background makes the painting less
abstract and more relatable to the viewer. The overall composition of the painting is naturalistic:
emphasized by the light and shadow on the figures, the use of three dimensions, and the additional
details in the clothes of the figures. The body on the cross demonstrates the most amount of
modeling. The face and legs of the person are covered by shadow, while the light hits the left side
of the body at the chest the most. Also, there is an attention to showcasing three dimensions: the
objects towards the back of the painting get smaller, while the objects in the front are larger. The
three dimensions frame the picture, and create a sense of directly looking into the scene from a
front viewer. Lastly, the folding and drapery of the clothing accentuate the naturalism of the
painting by looking similar to

44. Discovery Of The Nazi Death Camps
Discovery of the Nazi death camps at the end of World War II sent shockwaves throughout the
entire world and brought to question how civilized humans could participate in the atrocity of
what is now known as the Holocaust. Although from the beginning, it was clear Nazi s believed
Jews and other races were inferior to the Aryan race, the idea of genocide was not their original
intent. How then were German soldiers able to exterminate Jews without question? Christopher
Browning in his book Ordinary Men dives into the human psyche to try and recreate the
possibilities in which the German soldier were able to carry out these horrifying acts. Easiest of
Browning possibilities to understand why the Germans were capable of these terrible acts are the
fundamentals of a race war. Initialized by seeing a fellow comrade falling to the onslaught of the
enemy and engulfing them with hate, thus allowing the killing of a certain race without empathy
for their actions. However, how could this mentality be contributed to the Reserve Police Battalions
when they had never encountered combat? Early on in the war [they] felt the need to provide
justification. They were shot, he explained, because they had been encountered without the Jewish
star during roundup... (Browning 16) justification described as that is not from men feeling racial
hate toward the Jews. These men were not completely morally certain of their actions and in order
to justify it in their heads created shaky logic as to

45. Ancient Egypt and Mondern Society
Over the last several thousand years, dozens of great civilizations have risen from nothing and
fallen back into obscurity. Not all civilizations, however, leave a lasting mark on the world,
especially not one so profound that influences the world as it exists today. One such civilization
that has had a profound impact on daily modern lives was that of Ancient Egypt. Their systems of
religion and technological innovation helped not only to leave a permanent impression on the
world, but also served to mold both the civilizations that directly followed it as well as society
today. The Ancient Egyptian civilization spanned several thousand years and is one of the few
societies of the time that came into being independently. Egyptian... Show more content on

Egyptians not only contributed to future society through the invention of their language, giving
them the ability to record their history for future generations, but they also were the first people
to create a sensible medium upon which to inscribe their language: paper. Taken from the fibers
of the papyrus plant, Egyptian paper was the first of its kind ( Ancient 1). This invention would
come to change everything about written language, but not only did Egyptians create the first
paper, they also were skilled at creating ink. The process and depth of color utilized in the
Egyptian invention of ink and dye was so marvelous that these brilliant hued colors can still be seen
today, thousands of years later ( Ancirnt 1).
Egypt is also known for its statues depicting various gods and tombs for its numerous pharaohs.
Their architectural prowess is a feat marveled at even today. The ability to design and build such
grand monuments such as the iconic pyramids of Giza, rivalling even the Mayan and Aztec
temples of South and Central America, reveals the true nature of innovation in Egypt. In fact, even
without modern tools of measurement, the Great Pyramid, the largest tomb in Egypt, is almost
geometrically perfect. For such a large structure, the length of all four sides at its base differ by
less than a foot (McKenty 1).
One other major contributions Egyptians made is the creation

46. A Short Note On Merlin
Ardeth! Your breakfast is ready! blurted my lord, Merlin. As I finished picking carrots, I swept the
loads of sweat off my forehead, went over to the table, and saw Merlin dressed up in his linen coat.
He then took a piece of bread off my plate.
I am going to meet up with another lord. I ll be back soon. He noted. I need you to pick the wheat,
barley, and peas. I nodded slightly.
As I was eating a tomato that I picked, I was wondering why Merlin seemed frustrated. He is
usually in a good mood, and is not like any other lord. He is a warm hearted and good natured lord.
After breakfast, I went back to the fields and began picking wheat. It felt like it was a thousand
degrees. I looked up at the sky, and saw no sign of a single cloud ... Show more content on

He had a heart attack while riding in a horse carriage. I couldn t believe it. I was so lucky to have a
lord like Merlin, and now he s gone.
So, now what? I whimpered.
Oh, I will be taking you. she bickered. I froze. I have to have her as my master? I couldn t imagine
having her as my master, she is about as mean as a snake.
After a long time of the lady signing papers, she told me to get all of my clothes. I walked to my
room and grabbed three dresses. One is for working in the fields, one is my nightgown, and one
extra just in case one of them gets ruined.
I walked into the livingroom, and as soon as the lady saw me, she grabbed my arm and pulled
me outside to her horse carriage. She seemed like she could be stronger than a gorilla, because of
how hard she pulled me. She pushed me into it and it began to move. I watched Merlin s manor
get smaller and smaller as we got farther away from it. Tears ran down my cheeks. I had such an
amazing lord, and he is now gone.
We then arrived at the lady s manor, with dark, mossy, old brick walls, and many small windows.
Get out, commanded the lady. We walked inside her manor and she had me sit down in her living
room. I haven t properly introduced myself, she goaded, I am Madame Theutberga. And you will

48. The Cause And Effect Of Deafness
About ninety percent of the global population has the ability to hear the sound of their family s
voice, hear their favorite songs, hear their own voice, these are just a few sounds that sadly are
taken for granted by many people, and unfortunately many will never get to experience. About
10% of the Global population is affected by some percentage of hearing loss with hundred
twenty four million people affected from a moderate level to a severe deafness. Deafness is
caused by different situations. Research shows that two to three out of thousand children in US
are born deaf. There is no actual cure for deafness, but in 1982 the invention of cochlear implants
gave profoundly deaf and severely hard of hearing individual the chance to experience sound in a
completely new way. This electronic device that is implanted in the brain behind the ears can give
deaf individuals hearing ability. While many people can agree this invention had changed the way
the world sees deafness, opinions differ on whether a deaf child needs the implant to be successful.
Despite objections by activists in the Deaf community that cochlear implants destroy Deaf culture,
children who cannot hear should receive the surgery as a way to improve their communication
skills, increase their educational options, and improve their career opportunities.
In many ways, deafness is hardest on children. Language is learned from hearing it spoken by
parents and other. Deaf children struggle with communicating more

49. The Transformation of Jean Valjean Exemplified in Les...
All humans have different morals that change based on their environment and circumstance. Jean
Valjean, in the novel Les Miserables(1961), changes from someone with confused morals to a man
with more morals than most whom with respect learns to love and share. The protagonist s
transformation begins when the bishop recognizes Jean Valjeans human soul that is capable of
goodness. When he is put out into the streets, Valjean goes from place to place being rejected for
being a convict until he meets the bishop who sees him as a common person, That men saw his
mask, but the bishop saw his face (75). Even though people might be good, they don t always see

Forget not, never forget that you have promised me to use this silver to become an honest man
(33). Even though Valjean does not recall this promise, he seals it by taking not only the silver
but the two candlesticks as well. After Valjean gets wealthier, he sells all his possessions of
value except for the two candlesticks that the bishop has given him. It was a room very well
fitted with mahogany furniture, ugly as all furniture of that kind is, and the walls covered with
shilling paper. They could see nothing but two candlesticks of antique form that stood on the
mantle, and appeared to be silver (54). The constant presence of the candlesticks reminds
Valjean of the bishop and what he has done for him. He felt the bishop was there, that the bishop
was present all the more that he was dead... (75). The candlesticks are meaningful and important
to Valjean, which makes these objects symbolic. The candlesticks have an even deeper meaning
than anything else, because the bishop gives them to Valjean as a symbol for change and the
promise he makes but never recalls. Everyone needs someone to love and care for as well as
someone who can return that love and care. When Cosette comes into Valjean s life, it makes him
feel something he didn t feel in a long time, When he saw Cosette, when he had taken her, carried
her away, and rescued her, he felt his heart move (123). At this point, she becomes more than just a
girl but another symbol in Valjean s

Here at first we should have plan to direct marketing because it will ensure us that this particular
quantity of our final product will have to sell, according to that we can decrease our risk factor
otherwise we can t depend on retail market.
Here other important factor is transporting cost. It also affects our selling price, so we should have
already plan to our direct marketing on distance basis. Sometimes big company wants more
products in that condition it would be negotiable.
Sometimes company does agreements of final product purchasing where agreements can be on
quantity basis or timely basis (like different quantity on different month), so it will be also
profitable for us that for particular period we are ensure that this much our final product will sell,
according to that we can manage our production cost.
There are two different options for final product marketing.
(1) First one is that if you have good relation in local markets and ensure about personal sufficient
selling of final product through local market or dealers, which can be a good deal for you here you
can manage your selling price in terms of transportation cost.
(2) Second one is that if you have good agreements from big company on quantity basis or timely
basis at suitable price, then here you can compromise with your transportation cost

The importance of comprehensive site investigations and getting the right report, and by an EPA
accredited auditor can be seen in the court case Charben Haulage Pty Ltd v Environmental Earth
Sciences Pty Ltd (2004) FCA 403. In this case Caltex had obtained development consent from the
local council to decommission a suburban service station and remediate it to residential standards.
A condition of the consent was that an auditor accredited by the EPA would sign off the completed
decontamination.
A consultant issued a report to Caltex stating that the former service station site was suitable for
residential use, and the sale of the service station was completed relying on the report. The contract
of sale contained a condition that the site would be suitable for purposes permitted by its current
business zoning (in which residential flats were also permitted). However, the council then rejected
the consultants report, as an EPA accredited auditor had not signed it off.
The purchaser engaged its own accredited auditor, who recommended reporting to the authority
that the site posed significant risk of harm to human health and the environment because of
contaminated groundwater, off site migration, vapors and the presence of residential units down
slope. Work stopped for 10 months, with the council instituting proceedings in the land and
environment court to restrain work until an accredited auditor had validated the site, as required by
its development consent.

Coca Cola vs. PepsiCo
Coca Cola is a leading beverage industry in the United States and many other countries in the
world. PepsiCo is also a leading worldwide beverage company, but they are also the parent
company of the Frito Lay and Quaker Oats Companies. This makes PepsiCo a leader in the
beverage, snack and cereal industries. As consumers, we have indulged in their products for
many years. My personal preference has always been Pepsi over Coke, which is why I was very
interested in conducting this analysis. Regardless of the results, I will always seek out a Diet
Pepsi over a Diet Coke and so will many of my physician friends at Children s Hospital who start
their mornings with a Diet Pepsi. These personal preferences are what contributes to a company s
profits through net sales. However, the key performance measurement tools used are not based on
sales alone. Calculating liquidity, solvency, and profitability ratios on a regular basis give us a
better insight on the performance and overall health of a company. Coca Cola vs. PepsiCo Liquidity
Liquidity ratios measure the short term ability of a company to pay its obligations and meet their
needs for maintaining cash. According to Cagle, Campbell Jones (2013), A good assessment of a

54. Benefits of Animal Experimentation
Benefits of Animal Experimentation Animal Experimentation has been used for thousands of
years from early Greeks to modern day physicians. Animal Experimentation is not only
beneficial in gaining knowledge on diseases, but can also help to discover cures. Animal testing
is not a very new idea, and has been performed for a large portion of history. Some of the earliest
experiments can be traced back to early Greek physicians and scientist such as Aristotle and
Erasistratus who did tests on living animal subjects to find the differences between sensory nerves,
tendons, and motor nerves. All of these early procedures were performed without any type of pain
reliever or sedative used. In today s times, there are plenty of different anesthetics to be used to help
make these procedures easier for both an animal and the scientist. Later on, another Greek physician
named Galen used animal testingto advance multiple fields in medicine such as pathology, anatomy,
physiology, and pharmacology. In twelfth century Spain, Arab physician Ibn Zuhr used animal
testing as a new way for testing surgical procedures on animals before they were used on humans.
These tests and experiments went without question for many centuries, until recently when these
practices came under question by many animals rights groups. Animal testing is also used to test
new pharmaceutical drugs before they are released to the public. If these tests aren t done
catastrophe may ensue. In 1937 a new drug was created
