Career Goals Essay
Career Goals
Over the past few decades, people have drastically changed the way they choose their career. Times
have changed a great deal, and people no longer feel forced into a certain profession. People are now
given endless choices and possibilities, and it is up to them to decide what they want to do the rest of
their lives. When facing these important decisions, it is very easy to become confused. I once was very
uncertain about any career goals I may have had, but now, I am more sure of the direction my life is
going.
When I was young, I never really knew what I wanted to become when I got older, but I always had
very high aspirations for myself. I always thought that I would become either a doctor or a ... Show

I performed in depth research to get all of the necessary information about this profession. The more I
found out about it, the more persuasive it became. Being a pilot pays very well, but requires good
physical health and a decent amount of money invested into the training. I have always had very poor
eyesight, which would limit the career choices I would have in this field. While I still dream of flying
my own airplane to this day, I have decided to wait until my other priorities and goals are
accomplished.
Many factors came into play when I decided to give up on becoming an architect. I have always been
amazed by creative, well built structures. I have been to many extraordinary buildings designed by the
renowned Frank Lloyd Wright. After doing extensive research on this particular field, I found out that
they are paid very well. However, on the other hand, one must build their name up before given the
chance to build revolutionary structures. Also, many years of college are required before one can be a
very well respected architect. In general, this career choice seemed like a gamble, as well as an
aggravation.
After going over all of the options that have been placed before me, I have finally decided to pursue a
career in computers. I have been raised in the era when computers were making their first appearance
in people s homes. When I was a very small child, I started exploring the

Introduction Of Polonius In Hamlet
The introduction of Polonius in Hamlet is one of an elderly chief counselor to the king of Denmark,
but as his character develops, we see him evolve into a manipulator who worries about his self image
and how his family might jeopardize that; one would say Polonius fears being a simple man and will
sacrifice anything for status. As more events develop throughout the play Polonius turns into this
ruthless politician that won t stop at anything in order to manipulate and keep his status in the
kingdom; Polonius as the brilliant mastermind that he is, is always on the prowl for any information
he can get his hands on; he sleeps with one eye open and an ear on the ground. Polonius uses all this
information at the right moments to create his narrative.
Polonius is cleric who worries about his son Laertes s possible behavior, and how his son s behavior
might reflect bad on him. In previous acts Polonius gives Laertes sound advice so he doesn t go
embarrassed himself when he gets to France. Polonius worries about his son s behavior and is
intrigued to find out what he is up to. He calls to his servant Reynaldo and sets him with a task; to
inquire on his son s behavior before meeting him. In act II is clear that Polonius worries about one
thing only, and that s the reputation his son might be getting in France: inquire me first what Danskers
are in Paris, /and how, what means, and where they /keep, / what company, at what expense; and
finding /by this encompassment and drift of

Poetry Is Often Used As An Outlet To Express One’S Feelings
Poetry is often used as an outlet to express one s feelings or ideas. Sometimes it is possible to find out
a person s mental state from reading their poetry. Violeta Parra was an artist in many senses including
poetry. In her poem and song Here s to Life , it appears that Parra is celebrating life but may hint at
certain factors in her life such as racism, poverty, exhaustion, mixed emotions, and her love life that
lead to her depression and impending suicide. An ironic tone is established in the poem by the speaker
giving contradictions to the things she is grateful for. The first line of every stanza starts with the
phrase Thanks to the life that has given me so much (1). This phrase alone seems to be genuinely
grateful. The speaker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is suggested that the speaker may not happy with her life and expresses that with an ironic tone is
when she is talking about being grateful for sounds. The first sounds she talks about are generally
thought of as appealing sounds like crickets and birds. She then goes on and describes loud and
unsettling sounds Hammers, turbines, barking, squalls (14). Very few people would consider these
pleasant sounds and many would avoid hearing them. They also seem to suggest a low income area
that is perhaps near to construction or a factory. I do not know if the speaker is from a place of poverty
but even if she is not, this section appears to be referencing poverty and poverty is reason to make
someone unhappy. Exhaustion is another part of the speaker s life that is that lead to the conclusion
that the speaker was unhappy. This is when she talked about being thankful for walking. She names all
of these cool places to walk such as beaches and mountains. She names places that allude to her
having traveled all over the world and yet she describes her own feet as tired. If one was to describe
their adventures they might say after a long day of walking they were tired but the way the speaker
talks about her tired feet is not that they became tired from walking but that they were always tired.
Tiredness is often considered a symptom of depression. The inability to find energy, even when one
can travel all over the world would

The Act Of Demobilisation By George Mosses
The act of demobilisation involves the standing down of armed troops. In the case of the loss of the
First World War, once the armistice was signed, Germany needed to return their forces home from the
Eastern and Western fronts. No formal plan took place, but a speedy operation ensued to try and avoid
disgruntled and agitated soldiers.
Some historians such as Detlev Peukert and Richard Bessel would agree in the successfulness of the
act of demobilising the German troops, commenting that, The first phase of demobilization went
through astonishingly smoothly. However, a glance at home and the private sphere shows that
demobilisation was a far more contested process. As Maureen Healy would argue, civilizing the
soldier was not as simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the German defeat, plans for a gradual demobilisation, as drawn up in 1916, were
forgotten about. The terms of the armistice treaty stated all German troops must be returned home
within 31 days, which was accepted and a speedy demobilisation was further encouraged with the
soldiers determination to be home for Christmas; ...the troops could think of only one thing : we want
to be at home for Christmas. Because of this urging desire to get home as quickly as possible, many
soldiers decidedly made their own journeys home, which was found to be not as chaotic as expected,
but actually made the process of demobilisation easier, as Bessel insinuates, Rather than make more
difficult the task of getting the soldiers back home, it may have done just the opposite. Therefore, with
the means of demobilising the troops being simplified in such a way, and quickly acted upon, the
course of returning the soldiers home was surprisingly successful, especially after considering the
demoralised and hurried nature of the process.
However, this is not all that should be considered when contemplating the demobilisation of the
German soldiers. Although the act of bringing the soldiers back from the Western and Eastern fronts
was seemingly effective, introducing them into society can be construed differently; as highlighted by
Maureen Healy Demobilization did not take place at the instant when a man was discharged from

William Shakespeare s Oedipus, A Play Written By Sophocles

Blinded by the Truth
Oftentimes characters can see perfectly but are blind to the obvious truth; conversely, some characters
are in fact blind but have the insight to see the greater truth. Authors sometimes convey dramatic irony
through diction that symbolizes something to the audience. Oedipus, a play written by Sophocles,
contains numerous accounts where the author uses words to convey a deeper truth about characters
and their experiences. Sight, light, blindness, and darkness all have a literal meaning, but when placed
into this play, with its intricate plot, they express the dramatic ironies that unfold between Oedipus and
his past. Greek tragedies are known to use language that expresses the deeper truths about the to the
audiences. Sight, the most common word used by play writers, brings about a whole new meaning to
it rather that its normal literal meaning. The impression of fear and pity may be produced by sight
(Richardson). At first glance this quote looks as if it is mainly speaking about the audience s reaction
of what they saw yet as people analyze this deeper, they arise at the realization that this is discussing
how actors within a play are affected greatly by what they see. It can be taken both ways but in the
case of this essay, the people that knew the truth of Oedipus past and the prophecy felt remorse and
pity for him because for a man to endure such hardships yet be blind to the truth

The New York Times Coverage Of The Holocaust
This research topic was on the New York Times coverage of the Holocaust. When first starting this
report the idea of how the Holocaust was treated in the United States never truly came to mind. After
doing a research project on it, the things that came up was some unbelievable stuff. The American
reporting on the Holocaust was absolutely atrocious, in one of the biggest genocides in all of history,
almost half of the American people didn t even know about the Holocaust and still to this day most
people don t know much about it; One of the biggest newspapers out at this time failed in getting
important information out to the American people, and the sad part about it all is that not only did the
newspaper know about it, but the President of the United States as well. Unpublished Information The
New York Times had all the information on what was happening in Europe, however even though the
editors knew the information just DIMINISHED. The thing I truly never understood is that, why
would reporters have information and never publish what they truly could. Its essence became
knowable very fast, from Nazi threats and undisputed eyewitness reports collected by Americans
agents (Gonchar). The original sin of neglecting the Holocaust and the current trend that has seen
unprecedented coverage of alleged genocides may very well be linked, (Kersten). The New York
Times, the nation s leading newspaper, didn t report on the full effect of the killing of the Jews. ( The

In the Eyes of the Beholder
Coming of age in the United States has its privileges, you can vote, drink and buy spray paint. That s
right, spray paint. Many states, including Texas and Florida prohibit selling spray paint to minors.
That means that, without an adult, under age graffiti artists cannot purchase the medium needed for
their creative work. Unlike other styles of art, graffiti denotes passionate emotional controversy. Ask
anyone to describe graffiti and you are likely to hear anything from vandalized walls full of writings to
beautiful commissioned murals. This paper will explore this intriguing creative expression, why it has
such a negative stigma, and how or if it has evolved over the years.

To the little artist both were deliberate, but to the audience the wall print was unwelcomed and a
nuisance to be cleaned up.
To some, Picasso s WOMAN WITH FISH HAT painting may look like a beginner s attempt, but to an
expert it has immensely inventive intensity (Hans 154). To the untrained eye, Jackson Pollack s art
looks like haphazard splatters of paint. In the crime thriller CONTRABAND a seemingly tarp full of
paint was discarded by thieves, later the canvas was revealed to be a Pollack original worth millions.
Amateurs consider many famous artworks as junk but connoisseur valuable them as treasures. Who is
right? If Pollack had painted his famous, No 5, on a city wall would it still be valued at $140 million
or would it be considered worthless graffiti by youth vandals.
America graffiti acquired its bad rap from the hippie era. Protesters of the Vietnam War and other
political and worldviews began to appear on college campus and city walls. Gangs emerged from an
increase of immigrants and their need to integrate. Many youths in large cities such as Los Angeles
and New York City joined gangs to help them gain a group identity, defend themselves against other
groups, and establish a unified presence. (Doak 16). Gangs identify themselves in many ways; their
clothing, colors, even their language and slang terms helps differentiate themselves from other gangs.

Edgar Degas Blue Dancers Analysis
Edgar Degas and the Ballet Dancers Although Edgar Degas preferred to describe his work as realism
rather than impressionism, he was among the most famous impressionist of the late 1800 s. Degas
body of work protrayed many aspects of Paris life such as cafĂŠ scenes, horse races and operas. Some
of his most notalbe portrayals was that of ballet dancers. Through his many portraits of ballet dancers
Degas was able to convey one the most important attributes of a ballerina, the ballerina ligne. Dancer
Posing for a Photographer and Blue Dancers are just two of the many portraits Degas created of ballet
dancers. Both portraits are fine examples of Degas ability to render the beautiful line a ballet dancer s
body creates, the ballerina ligne. This line can be seen in both portraits starting at the neck, moving

The ballerinas in each portrait can be seen in traditional ballet garb known as the tutu. They have also
been portrayed with the traditional ballet hairstyle, the ballerina bun. Another comparison between the
two works of art is the rendering of the ballerina s faces in profile. This rendering contributes to the
depiction of the the ballerina ligne as well. Dancer Posing for a Photographer was created with oil on
canvas while Blue Dancers was created with the use of pastels on paper. A single ballerina with a
background of Parisian buildings can been seen in Dancer Posing for a Photographer . In contrast,
Blue Dancers portrays serveral ballerinas and the background is abstract. The facial features in Dancer
Posing for a Photographer are more realistic and defined through the portrayal of eyeshadow, lipstick
and blush. In Blue Dancers , the facial features for three of the ballerinas are more abstract while the
fourth ballerina s face can not been

Once Were Warriors And Tess Of The DUrbervilles Essay
How do the Authors of Once Were Warriors and Tess of the D Urbervilles Explore the Subjugation of
Women in Patriarchal Societies?
The film Once Were Warriors, directed by Lee Tamahori, and the novel, Tess of the D Urbervilles by
Thomas Hardy differ in terms of context, however each explores the subjugation of women in a
patriarchal society. Tamahori and Hardy both explore the idea that patriarchy traps women in
oppressive situations employing the settings of their texts and the characters they devised. Each author
concludes that gender subjugation forces women to respond in drastic ways through the
characterisation of their protagonists as well as through symbolism. It is Tamahori s cinematography,

Mobile Phones And Cell Phones
1) Sleeping disorder :Most of the teens keep their smart phones nearby while sleeping to respond to
calls and texts . They feel pressurized to remain reachable around the clock. It leads to sleep
interruption and disruption. Teens also become irritable when they are sleep deprived. 2) Accidents:
Teens are more likely to respond to calls, text while driving, and riding than adults. They talk and text
on the phone without realizing that it can cost their lives. Even the U.S. Government Website for
Distracted Driving has proven that traffic crashes are the leading cause of death in teens. 3) Increases
Anxiety: Relying on texting as a primary mode of communication can increase anxiety in teens.
Texting is instantly gratifying, but it also produces anxiety. The instant reply by the friend can bring
joy and elation. But in case of delayed response or no response, this same pleasure turns into
disappointment. 4) Cancer: Research shows that electromagnetic radiation emitted by mobile phones
get absorbed in the tissues when we hold the phone for longer times. The nervous systems of teens are
still developing and have a greater risk of developing brain cancer from cell phones than adults. Cell
Phone Safety For Teens: Cell phones are not going anywhere, at least no anytime soon. So you need to

Robert O. Kehoane and Joseph S. Nye, Jr. Power and Interdependence In this text, Keohane and Nye
try to shape and define a new concept of power applied on international relations based on the notion
of interdependence, which is a concept broadly used and misunderstood in the discipline.
Interdependence is getting more and more important in defining international affairs, inter state
relationships and worldwide behaviors; for a good understanding of the issue, we should now define
the cornerstone, the backbone of the whole topic. Interdependence means, in Keohane and Nye s
words, the situation of mutual dependence [...] characterized by reciprocal effects among countries or

Essay On Translocation To Mitochondria
In the critical experiment for this grant proposal, we observed that DJ 1 Cys 106 SO3 (Figs. 3, 4;
Table 1) contributes to DJ 1 translocation to mitochondria (Fig. 9). Interestingly, we found that first,
NHEJ 1 is also shifted to these organelles and second, it interacts with DJ 1 in mitochondria (Fig. 7).
We hypothesize that posttranslational modifications of DJ 1 lead to its interaction with NHEJ 1 in
these organelles. This may result in the impairment of mtDNA damage repair. To further study the
mechanism of this interaction, we will use tandem mass spectrometry (QTOF, letter attached, Fig. 8)
as a suitable method for enabling site mapping and quantification of chemical modifications of
proteins. We will treat A549 cells with mt OX as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mitochondrial amount will be analyzed using a ratio of total mtDNA to nuclear DNA by RT PCR. We
will also analyze fission and fusion and mitophagy as described in SA#1.1.2. Additionally, we will
measure the kinetics of cytosolic mtDNA release, which is a marker of mitochondrial injury, using RT
PCR in cytosolic fractions obtained from A549 cells with DJ 1 knockout or overexpression in
comparison with control. We anticipate that DJ 1 knockout will impair mitochondrial dynamics,
exaggerate mtDNA damage and mitophagy, and increase ROS formation and cell apoptosis. DJ 1
overexpression will provide cytoprotection and will rescue of A549 cell injury induced by mt OX.
Alternative approaches: We do not expect any problems with this SA. We anticipate that dysregulated
metabolic signatures in human primary ATII cells obtained from patients with emphysema will
correlate with mitochondrial dysfunction. Our proposed approach may uncover novel mechanisms by
which DJ 1 is involved in mitochondrial function and metabolism. Based on our obtained results from
mass spectrometry analysis, we may also include in our study other DNA damage repair proteins,
which interact with DJ 1.
Specific Aim #1. Genome wide RNAi screening to identify novel targets involved in mitochondrial
DNA (mtDNA) damage induced by mt OX.
Hypothesis: We hypothesize that mt OX induces mtDNA damage. We will identify novel targets
leading to mitochondrial dysfunction.
Rationale: Mitochondria are enclosed by an

The Theme Of Duality In The Lifted Veil By George Eliot
Published in 1859, The lifted Veil by George Eliot is an enthralling and complex tale of the
supernatural. George Eliot, actually Mary Anne Evans by birth, was a leading novelist, editor, and
critic of the Victorian era who went by a pen name, so she could write freely without the pressures of
following the conventions of female writers. The short story she wrote is set predominantly in
England and revolves around the conflicts that Latimer, the second son of a wealthy middle class
banker, experiences during the course of his life both ordinary and extraordinary. The most notable
element of the story is the emergence of Latimer s superadded awareness which allows him both the
ability to read the minds of others who are nearby and to experience highly detailed visions of the
future. This mental power creates a multitude of unusual conflicts which Eliot uses to characterize
Latimer and his split conscious through her employment of duality in the story. The theme of duality
manifests itself early in the story providing foreshadowing for Latimer s future supernatural ability.
During childhood, Latimer was regarded as a very sensitive child (Eliot 5) not displaying the typical
hardy qualities typical of a male. When young Latimer witnessed the loud noises of his father s estate
like the trampling of the horses on the pavement in the echoing stables (Eliot 5) or the booming bark
of the dogs (Eliot 5), he reacted in a dual nature experiencing both a mingled trepidation and delicious
excitement (Eliot 5). This strange mix of fear and joy felt by Latimer highlights the odd aspect of
Latimer s character in which he struggles between which side of the metaphorical heads or tails of a
coin he desires. The passage also accentuates the delicate quality of his mind that allows for his dual
consciousness to emerge later in the story by mentioning that the loud noises made me sob and
tremble ... I longed for them to come back again (Eliot 5). Latimer s powerful attunement with even
the most ordinary of loud sounds reveals a supernatural element about him that hungers for
stimulation. As Latimer reaches the age of sixteen, he is sent by his father to Geneva to continue his
rational studies abroad. There

The Economic Impact Of Amoebic Dysentery
There are no definitive metrics on the economic impact of amoebic dysentery. The disease mostly
afflicts children in farming communities whose source of drinking water are streams, rivers and
ponds. Knowledge of the economic cost of diarrheal diseases in the developing countries, on the other
hand, offers rough estimates of the cost of amoebic dysentery. It worth mentioning that about 40% of
the diarrheal diseases in the developing countries is attributable to amoebic dysentery according to a
paper presented at the 28th African Health Sciences Congress, Mauritius, July, 2008. A study done at a

organism that are capable of creating holes in the cell walls. The parasite induces apoptosis through

Frida Kahlo Husband Diego Rivera
Frida Kahlo piece Self Portrait on the Borderline between Mexico and the United States, finish in
1932 represents how Frida feels in the United States while her husband Diego Rivera Works. Frida
Kahlo paint is now located in New York and belongs to MR. and Mrs. Manuel Reyero. The original
image is a small oil painting on metal (11 3/4 X 13 1/2 ) (Hispanic Research Center, Arizona State
University). In her paints Frida Kahlo always shows how she feels and how her relationship with
Diego Rivera is. In this paint she is homesick and represents how she feels between the two countries.

She made this paint when she was accompanying her husband Diego Rivera to the United States.
Diego Rivera didn t have chance to be with her because he has lots of work. Been alone made her feel
homesick and she star to create this self portrait which represents how she feels at that time. As I
already mention, she divides the picture in two. Her right represents Mexico and it has lots of
symbolical representation. The juxtapositions of the sun and moon represent the Azteca culture and
how they believe that the opposites like man and women, life and death, define life. (PBS.org.). The
Pre Columbian temple represents the rejection that she has to European traditions. She also has two
fertility dolls and their position represent the cycle of life and death. In my opinion she paints this
dolls to represent how she feels because she can t have babies. She also has a Skulls that represents
Mexican culture of death. The skulls is in most of Frida s paintings. She painted because she has been
in the edge of death . I also think that she paint the skull because sometimes she wants to be death. She
was obsessed with her husband Diego Rivera but he didn t respect her feelings and he cheat her
several times. The flowers and the clouds represent the natural surrounding that Mexico has. In
contrast she represents the United Sates with machines, skyscrapers and smog that represents to her
that the nations is unfriendly and that the people that live there only think in work and made money. I
agree with her, although the people in Mexico don t earn sufficient money they care more about their
families. In contrast, Most of the people that live in the United States just think in work and how to
earn more money and forget about their family. Another Important detail is her dress on the picture.
The drees represents her culture and the proud that she feels for

Rescue Services Argument
The Argument of Rescue Services
Many people have had a an issue of safety on rescue services. Some say they are risking their lives
while others say that they are not. There have been many articles on the subject about rescuers that
died and climbers that had a false sense of hope. Some articles say that the climbers are safe and that
there is nothing dangerous about mountain climbing. But what is right is that people do have the right
to rescue services when they put themselves at risk because all humans have a right to rescue services.
The first reason people do have the right to rescue services when they put themselves at risk is that it
is their choice. In source 1 it said ...a technique developed in Switzerland. suggests that the new
technique can save more lives. As stated in line 65 69, ...there attaching a long line...and there putting
a technician at the end... This shows that there are safer ways into saving more time.. In addition, it
demonstrates that people are working on techniques into saving more people, climbers and rescuers.

What Is The Tone Of Richard Cory
In the poem Richard Cory, by Edwin Arlington Robinson, the speaker, who is a collective group of
impoverished townspeople, recounts the ironic tale of a sophisticated yet secretly unhappy gentleman
named Richard Cory. As they describe Richard Cory through simple yet dignified imagery supported
with repetitive diction, the townspeople learn that appearances can be deceiving when the wealthy
socialite commits suicide. While the speaker observes Richard Cory with a tone of admiration through
extensive detail, the tone shifts at the last line into a tone of irony that forces both the speaker and the
reader to assert their own perception of individuals in terms of reality. Throughout the poem, the
speaker, comprised of observing townspeople,

Honey Bees Nitrogen Cycle
Three of the ecosystem that I am benefiting from are pollination, nitrogen cycle and the safety of our
drinking and cooking water. Pollination is a process that is mostly carry out by bees but the wind also
plays a role in this process. There is much talk about the the honey bees becoming extinct. We can
import bees in but this will not be very cost effective. There will be a great monetary cost to import
the bees here. Also, the farmer has to be paid for the upkeep of the bee hives and it will require more
manpower. This will have a great impact on our food supply. Most of our fruits and vegetables are
produced due to the process.
Another ecosystem that I use each day is the nitrogen cycle. This is the process that consist of three

Encounters with Death in The Masque of Red Death Essays
Encounters with Death in The Masque of Red Death
After reading Edgar Allan Poe s The Masque of Red Death (317 22), the reader can only conclude that
death is the theme once again in another thrilling horror tale. Other critics such as Patricia H. Wheat,
view this tale as a battle between life and death (51 56). Yet, Leonard Cassuto brings an interesting
theory to this tale According to the narrator s own account, no one survives the Red Death. The only
one who(lives) is Death. The narrator must be death himself (317 20). Reflecting back to the various
critical analogies on tone, character, and allegory on The Masque of Red Death a certain aspect of this
work has yet to be defined. The plague that devastated a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Virgina Clemm, Poe s thirteen year old cousin who he loved dearly and eventually married, also
succumbed to a similar fate as his mother. While singing she had burst a blood vessel in her throat,
causing profuse bleeding and the coughing up of blood. She simply bled to death. Again Poe was
forced to watch helplessly and endure another Masque of Red Death. In comparison, to better
understand the probability of this affliction we should refer to Marie Bonapartes Analytical
Interpretation : Haemoptyses do not last long, either: they occur suddenly and the scarlet blood
appears, especially on the face (514). To further clarify the disease Hemoptysis (current spelling
Websters 1999ed.) as noted: The spitting of blood derived from the lungs or bronchial tubes as a result
of pulmonary or bronchial hemorrhage . Hemoptysis, particularly if it involves a large quantity of
blood or recurrent, is a frightening, potentially fatal event. Despite systematic and intensive search, the
cause of hemoptysis is not found in 30 to 40% of cases (Beers MD, Berkow, MD 1999).
While not being able to understand the affliction that had taken away Poe s loved ones, he used his
brilliant imagination to convey how death had left an everlasting impression through his writing of
The Masque of Red Death (317 22).

The Effects Of Free Speech On The United States
As an American citizen and a late bloomer to the political arena in the United States, I find myself

utopian world of money, power and greed, where the rich elites of the population has all the power to
speak up. Where money has become more out spoken and heard than actual dialog, while the majority
of the population remains silenced through underfunded attempts to express their views. Giving
money the potency of free speech enables only the people with a financial mouth to resonate loud
enough to be heard. Presidents, Senators, Legislators and House of Representative members are

Lobbying is a way for self interest groups to persuade the outcomes of policies through discussions

Interest Groups and Lobbyists identifies lobbying as fundamentally [able to] influence the way issues

groups and lobbyists should have power to influence through debate in the United States on domestic
policies that affect U.S. citizens. However, there is a overwhelming amount of cash being poured into
politics to persuade decisions. Not only from U.S. interests, but foreign interest groups are pouring
millions of dollars into American lobbying groups to persuade U.S. policies that affect millions of
American citizens nation wide. Many lobbying groups give foreign investors whose interests do not

Schindler s List Analysis
Schindlers list so we just watched the schindlers list. The movie in all was great. At the beginning, I
wasnt sure if I would get into it. I was wrong. I didnt really know what to think about Oscar, I believe
he was way different at the beginning of the movie. Defenitly had a different perspective of him of
first, he only really focused on himself and getting money. A bit selfish. I think deep down he was a
good man at heart. He defenitly dealed with things a lot better than others did. The other man was
horrible he had no empathy what so ever for other people. Not even children. Sometimes there was no
reason behind killing innocent people, he did it simply because he felt like it. There was a time when
schindler actually tried to prevent him from killing people without thinking. The bad guy said that
killing meant he had power, but schindler said that having the ability too kill and not doing so but
forgive is real power. The bad guy didnt really get it at first and just kind of laughed at him. The next

The cognitive restructuring theory commands that one s personal impractical philosophies are
precisely responsible for producing dysfunctional feelings and their subsequent behaviors, such as

in addressing behavioral issues concerning stroke victims and adolescents. Team A s focus will be
addressing the perceptions into these interventions. Behavioral changes can be difficult, but for a

An example of an exercise used to assist clients is documenting daily events that bring on unwanted
actions. Adolescents suffering from depression are often asked to record thoughts on situations
happening is day to day life. When a situation happens that furthers or intensifies the clients unwanted
behavior, thoughts are recorded, this is to monitor and change specific behaviors and thoughts. By
reporting ones thoughts and feelings the individual can document what has happened, what thoughts
are happening, and what changes need to be made to improve the unwanted behavior. By continuing
to document feelings and thoughts of depression, the adolescent will be able to notice a change in their
own behavior; they will be able to realize that emotions are dictating how they react to certain events.
With the documenting process of cognitive restructuring, many individuals will be capable of
changing their own thought process for the better. Each session with the depressed adolescent should
be well structured with feedback from the adolescent, frequent feedback allows the client to be heavily
involved and will bring about different emotions. Emotions are the overall goal, being aware of one s
emotional state during life events is a key to altering the depressive behavior. Further intervention
steps in cognitive restructuring for adolescents will include coping skills and scheduling. Depression

The Role Of Robots In The Military
During the last few decades, technology has advanced. The modern technology has the capacity to
build robots that are now being used in the military. This website discusses the diverse uses and
advantages robots have in the military force, especially in combat. Everyday soldiers go on suicidal
missions in different parts of the world. These robots have a sense of comfort to these soldiers to
prevent an injury and even death. Certain uses of these robots include performing dangerous tasks
humans cannot be exposed to, using different type of weapons that are 100 percent effective, and
having robots that include cameras to detect enemy troops. Along with these maneuvers, many
advantages for the military occur, such as programming the robot to perform a task they asked for,
completing missions without humans actually been there, and destroying enemies without hurting
soldiers. All of the purposes that robots serve within the military frontier contribute to the big picture
of how the functions of robots help us as a society. Everyday, society observes that humans now
depend on technology in one way or another. This allows the use of robots to be implemented in the
medical field, allowing them to perform surgeries, in the military by letting robots complete missions
without the presence of humans, and to increase the production and profit in big industries. In this
article, their main concern is to prevent humans from drying on the suicidal missions they go to.

The curriculum is rigorous and factors like being away from home and not knowing anyone can also
add to the anxiety. The University of Chicago provides various resources to keep the students out of
harm s way. When I got the chance to visit the campus, I noticed there were what seemed to be strange
street lights all over campus. These lights were questionable because they said emergency in big bold
letters. Later in the tour, I learned that these streetlights were emergency phones. If a student felt like
they are in any kind of danger, they can go to one of the 380 phones on campus. As well as the
physical safety of the students, the University cares for the mental safety of the students. The school
provides academic support such as student tutoring and even student counseling services. I think
everyone can agree that post secondary education is expensive and may be impossible for some
families. That s why the University s No Barriers program is so great. It waives the application fee,
doesn t make students pull out loans, and relives students of the financial stress so that they can focus
all of their attention on their education. If someone is always worried about whether they will be able
to pay for their next class, instead of studying their hardest to pass the current class, priorities will be
mixed up and scholars won t be able to reach their full educational

The Cell Body
1 The Prototypical Neuron The neuron, also known as the nerve cell, is distinguished by several
components: the soma, the axon, and the dendrites. The soma, or more commonly known as the cell
body, is the semi spherical central part of the neuron. In a typical neuron, it is about 20 um in diameter
and contains the same organelles that are found in all animal cells; a nucleolus, rough endoplasmic
reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and mitochondria. With all of its inner
components encased within the neuronal membrane. The neuronal membrane is an average of 5 nm

The axon begins by extending away from the soma, with the base region being known as the axon
hillock. The axon may then extend to various lengths (depending on the specific tissue/function that
cell pertains to) ranging from less than a millimeter to over a meter; as well as splitting into numerous
axon collaterals (axons that branch away from the original axon). As for the thickness of the axon, it
ranges from less than a millimeter to 25 mm in diameter (in humans) with the speed of electrical
impulses (nerve impulse) directly proportional to the thickness of the axon. At the end of the axon, is
the axon terminal or terminal bouton: which can be described as a swollen disk or button, where the
axon comes into contact with another neuron, or another cell (e.g. muscle cell) by which information
may be passed onto. This interface point is known as a synapse with the end of the axon known as the
presynaptic terminal; in this structure there are multiple synaptic vesicles (that average 50 nm in
diameter) with various chemical signals (neurotransmitters) used for synaptic transmission (the
process of information transfer). The membrane surrounding the synapse is heavily dense with
proteins and ion channels, in order to receive and traffic the

Analysis Of Wild Nights-Wild Nights, By Emily Dickinson
Have you ever longed to do something? Or what about longed to be with someone? In Emily
Dickinson s poem, Wild Nights Wild Nights she writes about longing to be with a lover. The poem
shows a longing to be with her lover once again. The first stanza is about her longing to be with the
lover. The second stanza is the biggest shift and the climax, the speaker has reached her limit. The
speaker is frustrated that they cannot be with the lover and is at breaking point. However, the third
stanza relates back to the first by longing for the lover once again. Emily Dickinson s self reserved,
recluse lifestyle was influential in Wild Nights Wild Nights , as she uses metaphor, imagery, and
stanzas to show her passion in a restrictive religious culture. Dickinson uses metaphors in the poem
Wild Nights Wild Nights. Metaphor, a direct comparison between two unlike things, is used to
compare the heart of the speaker and the port of a coastal town. Dickinson writes that the lover s heart
[is] in a port (5). The lover is not literally in a port but Dickinson uses the idea of being stuck in a port
to show how frustrated the speaker is that they cannot be with her lover. At this point, in the poem, the
speaker is feeling longing and frustration together create the breaking point and climax. This metaphor
relates back to Dickinson s personal life, as a girl who felt restricted by the people around her, she
often felt the longing the speaker expresses in Wild Nights Wild Nights . However, Dickinson grew up
Calvinist and she attended religious services as a child. As an adult, she did not join the church and
stopped going to services altogether. This is a huge influence in her poems because it showed how she
was then separated from many different aspects of their society. Dickinson did not keep an active
social life, it has been made of Dickinson s decision to restrict her visits with other people. She has
been termed recluse and hermit. Both terms sensationalize a decision that has come to be seen as
eminently practical (Emily Dickinson). Dickinson did not socialize with others and was often alone; In
Wild Nights Wild Nights she expresses her feelings of wanting to be with someone else despite her

  • 2. Career Goals Essay Career Goals Over the past few decades, people have drastically changed the way they choose their career. Times have changed a great deal, and people no longer feel forced into a certain profession. People are now given endless choices and possibilities, and it is up to them to decide what they want to do the rest of their lives. When facing these important decisions, it is very easy to become confused. I once was very uncertain about any career goals I may have had, but now, I am more sure of the direction my life is going. When I was young, I never really knew what I wanted to become when I got older, but I always had very high aspirations for myself. I always thought that I would become either a doctor or a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I performed in depth research to get all of the necessary information about this profession. The more I found out about it, the more persuasive it became. Being a pilot pays very well, but requires good physical health and a decent amount of money invested into the training. I have always had very poor eyesight, which would limit the career choices I would have in this field. While I still dream of flying my own airplane to this day, I have decided to wait until my other priorities and goals are accomplished. Many factors came into play when I decided to give up on becoming an architect. I have always been amazed by creative, well built structures. I have been to many extraordinary buildings designed by the renowned Frank Lloyd Wright. After doing extensive research on this particular field, I found out that they are paid very well. However, on the other hand, one must build their name up before given the chance to build revolutionary structures. Also, many years of college are required before one can be a very well respected architect. In general, this career choice seemed like a gamble, as well as an aggravation. After going over all of the options that have been placed before me, I have finally decided to pursue a career in computers. I have been raised in the era when computers were making their first appearance in people s homes. When I was a very small child, I started exploring the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Introduction Of Polonius In Hamlet The introduction of Polonius in Hamlet is one of an elderly chief counselor to the king of Denmark, but as his character develops, we see him evolve into a manipulator who worries about his self image and how his family might jeopardize that; one would say Polonius fears being a simple man and will sacrifice anything for status. As more events develop throughout the play Polonius turns into this ruthless politician that won t stop at anything in order to manipulate and keep his status in the kingdom; Polonius as the brilliant mastermind that he is, is always on the prowl for any information he can get his hands on; he sleeps with one eye open and an ear on the ground. Polonius uses all this information at the right moments to create his narrative. Polonius is cleric who worries about his son Laertes s possible behavior, and how his son s behavior might reflect bad on him. In previous acts Polonius gives Laertes sound advice so he doesn t go embarrassed himself when he gets to France. Polonius worries about his son s behavior and is intrigued to find out what he is up to. He calls to his servant Reynaldo and sets him with a task; to inquire on his son s behavior before meeting him. In act II is clear that Polonius worries about one thing only, and that s the reputation his son might be getting in France: inquire me first what Danskers are in Paris, /and how, what means, and where they /keep, / what company, at what expense; and finding /by this encompassment and drift of ... • 4. Poetry Is Often Used As An Outlet To Express One’S Feelings Poetry is often used as an outlet to express one s feelings or ideas. Sometimes it is possible to find out a person s mental state from reading their poetry. Violeta Parra was an artist in many senses including poetry. In her poem and song Here s to Life , it appears that Parra is celebrating life but may hint at certain factors in her life such as racism, poverty, exhaustion, mixed emotions, and her love life that lead to her depression and impending suicide. An ironic tone is established in the poem by the speaker giving contradictions to the things she is grateful for. The first line of every stanza starts with the phrase Thanks to the life that has given me so much (1). This phrase alone seems to be genuinely grateful. The speaker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is suggested that the speaker may not happy with her life and expresses that with an ironic tone is when she is talking about being grateful for sounds. The first sounds she talks about are generally thought of as appealing sounds like crickets and birds. She then goes on and describes loud and unsettling sounds Hammers, turbines, barking, squalls (14). Very few people would consider these pleasant sounds and many would avoid hearing them. They also seem to suggest a low income area that is perhaps near to construction or a factory. I do not know if the speaker is from a place of poverty but even if she is not, this section appears to be referencing poverty and poverty is reason to make someone unhappy. Exhaustion is another part of the speaker s life that is that lead to the conclusion that the speaker was unhappy. This is when she talked about being thankful for walking. She names all of these cool places to walk such as beaches and mountains. She names places that allude to her having traveled all over the world and yet she describes her own feet as tired. If one was to describe their adventures they might say after a long day of walking they were tired but the way the speaker talks about her tired feet is not that they became tired from walking but that they were always tired. Tiredness is often considered a symptom of depression. The inability to find energy, even when one can travel all over the world would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Act Of Demobilisation By George Mosses The act of demobilisation involves the standing down of armed troops. In the case of the loss of the First World War, once the armistice was signed, Germany needed to return their forces home from the Eastern and Western fronts. No formal plan took place, but a speedy operation ensued to try and avoid disgruntled and agitated soldiers. Some historians such as Detlev Peukert and Richard Bessel would agree in the successfulness of the act of demobilising the German troops, commenting that, The first phase of demobilization went through astonishingly smoothly. However, a glance at home and the private sphere shows that demobilisation was a far more contested process. As Maureen Healy would argue, civilizing the soldier was not as simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of the German defeat, plans for a gradual demobilisation, as drawn up in 1916, were forgotten about. The terms of the armistice treaty stated all German troops must be returned home within 31 days, which was accepted and a speedy demobilisation was further encouraged with the soldiers determination to be home for Christmas; ...the troops could think of only one thing : we want to be at home for Christmas. Because of this urging desire to get home as quickly as possible, many soldiers decidedly made their own journeys home, which was found to be not as chaotic as expected, but actually made the process of demobilisation easier, as Bessel insinuates, Rather than make more difficult the task of getting the soldiers back home, it may have done just the opposite. Therefore, with the means of demobilising the troops being simplified in such a way, and quickly acted upon, the course of returning the soldiers home was surprisingly successful, especially after considering the demoralised and hurried nature of the process. However, this is not all that should be considered when contemplating the demobilisation of the German soldiers. Although the act of bringing the soldiers back from the Western and Eastern fronts was seemingly effective, introducing them into society can be construed differently; as highlighted by Maureen Healy Demobilization did not take place at the instant when a man was discharged from ... • 6. William Shakespeare s Oedipus, A Play Written By Sophocles Kayleigh De Koker Mrs. Beckman World Literature 21 November, 15 Blinded by the Truth Oftentimes characters can see perfectly but are blind to the obvious truth; conversely, some characters are in fact blind but have the insight to see the greater truth. Authors sometimes convey dramatic irony through diction that symbolizes something to the audience. Oedipus, a play written by Sophocles, contains numerous accounts where the author uses words to convey a deeper truth about characters and their experiences. Sight, light, blindness, and darkness all have a literal meaning, but when placed into this play, with its intricate plot, they express the dramatic ironies that unfold between Oedipus and his past. Greek tragedies are known to use language that expresses the deeper truths about the to the audiences. Sight, the most common word used by play writers, brings about a whole new meaning to it rather that its normal literal meaning. The impression of fear and pity may be produced by sight (Richardson). At first glance this quote looks as if it is mainly speaking about the audience s reaction of what they saw yet as people analyze this deeper, they arise at the realization that this is discussing how actors within a play are affected greatly by what they see. It can be taken both ways but in the case of this essay, the people that knew the truth of Oedipus past and the prophecy felt remorse and pity for him because for a man to endure such hardships yet be blind to the truth ... • 7. The New York Times Coverage Of The Holocaust This research topic was on the New York Times coverage of the Holocaust. When first starting this report the idea of how the Holocaust was treated in the United States never truly came to mind. After doing a research project on it, the things that came up was some unbelievable stuff. The American reporting on the Holocaust was absolutely atrocious, in one of the biggest genocides in all of history, almost half of the American people didn t even know about the Holocaust and still to this day most people don t know much about it; One of the biggest newspapers out at this time failed in getting important information out to the American people, and the sad part about it all is that not only did the newspaper know about it, but the President of the United States as well. Unpublished Information The New York Times had all the information on what was happening in Europe, however even though the editors knew the information just DIMINISHED. The thing I truly never understood is that, why would reporters have information and never publish what they truly could. Its essence became knowable very fast, from Nazi threats and undisputed eyewitness reports collected by Americans agents (Gonchar). The original sin of neglecting the Holocaust and the current trend that has seen unprecedented coverage of alleged genocides may very well be linked, (Kersten). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To the little artist both were deliberate, but to the audience the wall print was unwelcomed and a nuisance to be cleaned up. To some, Picasso s WOMAN WITH FISH HAT painting may look like a beginner s attempt, but to an expert it has immensely inventive intensity (Hans 154). To the untrained eye, Jackson Pollack s art looks like haphazard splatters of paint. In the crime thriller CONTRABAND a seemingly tarp full of paint was discarded by thieves, later the canvas was revealed to be a Pollack original worth millions. Amateurs consider many famous artworks as junk but connoisseur valuable them as treasures. Who is right? If Pollack had painted his famous, No 5, on a city wall would it still be valued at $140 million or would it be considered worthless graffiti by youth vandals. America graffiti acquired its bad rap from the hippie era. Protesters of the Vietnam War and other political and worldviews began to appear on college campus and city walls. Gangs emerged from an increase of immigrants and their need to integrate. Many youths in large cities such as Los Angeles and New York City joined gangs to help them gain a group identity, defend themselves against other groups, and establish a unified presence. (Doak 16). The film Once Were Warriors, directed by Lee Tamahori, and the novel, Tess of the D Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy differ in terms of context, however each explores the subjugation of women in a patriarchal society. Tamahori and Hardy both explore the idea that patriarchy traps women in oppressive situations employing the settings of their texts and the characters they devised. The upwards torso shots in particular allow the audience to view Jake s body language and facial expression. From these shots, evidence of Jake s violence are captured in his tightened muscles and strained face. Tamahori contrast of power in downward camera angles for Beth highlighting her brutalization. The downward angles allow the audience to witness Beth s fearful facial expressions and the contortions of a damaged body. In this contrast Tamahori is able to further emphasise situations of domestic abuse. Jake s violent portrayal as an abusive man is symbolic of Maori men enforcing patriarchy in post colonial New Zealand communities. Although Hardy s antagonist Alec D Urberville is not physically violent, he is portrayed as an emotionally manipulative privileged male who uses these characteristics to entrap Tess. • 12. Mobile Phones And Cell Phones 1) Sleeping disorder :Most of the teens keep their smart phones nearby while sleeping to respond to calls and texts . They feel pressurized to remain reachable around the clock. It leads to sleep interruption and disruption. Teens also become irritable when they are sleep deprived. 2) Accidents: Teens are more likely to respond to calls, text while driving, and riding than adults. They talk and text on the phone without realizing that it can cost their lives. Even the U.S. Government Website for Distracted Driving has proven that traffic crashes are the leading cause of death in teens. 3) Increases Anxiety: Relying on texting as a primary mode of communication can increase anxiety in teens. Texting is instantly gratifying, but it also produces anxiety. The instant reply by the friend can bring joy and elation. But in case of delayed response or no response, this same pleasure turns into disappointment. 4) Cancer: Research shows that electromagnetic radiation emitted by mobile phones get absorbed in the tissues when we hold the phone for longer times. The nervous systems of teens are still developing and have a greater risk of developing brain cancer from cell phones than adults. Cell Phone Safety For Teens: Cell phones are not going anywhere, at least no anytime soon. So you need to teach your teens about mobile phone safety and to use it responsibly. They also need to have agreed boundaries for mobile phone usage. Here are some ways to avoid negative effects of cell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nye, Jr. Power and Interdependence In this text, Keohane and Nye try to shape and define a new concept of power applied on international relations based on the notion of interdependence, which is a concept broadly used and misunderstood in the discipline. Interdependence is getting more and more important in defining international affairs, inter state relationships and worldwide behaviors; for a good understanding of the issue, we should now define the cornerstone, the backbone of the whole topic. Essay On Translocation To Mitochondria In the critical experiment for this grant proposal, we observed that DJ 1 Cys 106 SO3 (Figs. 3, 4; Table 1) contributes to DJ 1 translocation to mitochondria (Fig. 9). Interestingly, we found that first, NHEJ 1 is also shifted to these organelles and second, it interacts with DJ 1 in mitochondria (Fig. 7). We hypothesize that posttranslational modifications of DJ 1 lead to its interaction with NHEJ 1 in these organelles. This may result in the impairment of mtDNA damage repair. To further study the mechanism of this interaction, we will use tandem mass spectrometry (QTOF, letter attached, Fig. 8) as a suitable method for enabling site mapping and quantification of chemical modifications of proteins. We will also analyze fission and fusion and mitophagy as described in SA#1.1.2. Additionally, we will measure the kinetics of cytosolic mtDNA release, which is a marker of mitochondrial injury, using RT PCR in cytosolic fractions obtained from A549 cells with DJ 1 knockout or overexpression in comparison with control. We anticipate that DJ 1 knockout will impair mitochondrial dynamics, exaggerate mtDNA damage and mitophagy, and increase ROS formation and cell apoptosis. DJ 1 overexpression will provide cytoprotection and will rescue of A549 cell injury induced by mt OX. Alternative approaches: We do not expect any problems with this SA. We anticipate that dysregulated metabolic signatures in human primary ATII cells obtained from patients with emphysema will correlate with mitochondrial dysfunction. Our proposed approach may uncover novel mechanisms by which DJ 1 is involved in mitochondrial function and metabolism. • 18. The Theme Of Duality In The Lifted Veil By George Eliot Published in 1859, The lifted Veil by George Eliot is an enthralling and complex tale of the supernatural. George Eliot, actually Mary Anne Evans by birth, was a leading novelist, editor, and critic of the Victorian era who went by a pen name, so she could write freely without the pressures of following the conventions of female writers. The short story she wrote is set predominantly in England and revolves around the conflicts that Latimer, the second son of a wealthy middle class banker, experiences during the course of his life both ordinary and extraordinary. The most notable element of the story is the emergence of Latimer s superadded awareness which allows him both the ability to read the minds of others who are nearby and to experience highly detailed visions of the future. This mental power creates a multitude of unusual conflicts which Eliot uses to characterize Latimer and his split conscious through her employment of duality in the story. The theme of duality manifests itself early in the story providing foreshadowing for Latimer s future supernatural ability. During childhood, Latimer was regarded as a very sensitive child (Eliot 5) not displaying the typical hardy qualities typical of a male. When young Latimer witnessed the loud noises of his father s estate like the trampling of the horses on the pavement in the echoing stables (Eliot 5) or the booming bark of the dogs (Eliot 5), he reacted in a dual nature experiencing both a mingled trepidation and delicious excitement (Eliot 5). This strange mix of fear and joy felt by Latimer highlights the odd aspect of Latimer s character in which he struggles between which side of the metaphorical heads or tails of a coin he desires. The passage also accentuates the delicate quality of his mind that allows for his dual consciousness to emerge later in the story by mentioning that the loud noises made me sob and tremble ... I longed for them to come back again (Eliot 5). Latimer s powerful attunement with even the most ordinary of loud sounds reveals a supernatural element about him that hungers for stimulation. As Latimer reaches the age of sixteen, he is sent by his father to Geneva to continue his rational studies abroad. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Cell Body 1 The Prototypical Neuron The neuron, also known as the nerve cell, is distinguished by several components: the soma, the axon, and the dendrites. The soma, or more commonly known as the cell body, is the semi spherical central part of the neuron. In a typical neuron, it is about 20 um in diameter and contains the same organelles that are found in all animal cells; a nucleolus, rough endoplasmic reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and mitochondria. With all of its inner components encased within the neuronal membrane. The neuronal membrane is an average of 5 nm thick, and greatly studded with various proteins; the function of a neuron is greatly regulated by the structure and components (proteins) of its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The axon begins by extending away from the soma, with the base region being known as the axon hillock. The axon may then extend to various lengths (depending on the specific tissue/function that cell pertains to) ranging from less than a millimeter to over a meter; as well as splitting into numerous axon collaterals (axons that branch away from the original axon). As for the thickness of the axon, it ranges from less than a millimeter to 25 mm in diameter (in humans) with the speed of electrical impulses (nerve impulse) directly proportional to the thickness of the axon. At the end of the axon, is the axon terminal or terminal bouton: which can be described as a swollen disk or button, where the axon comes into contact with another neuron, or another cell (e.g. muscle cell) by which information may be passed onto. This interface point is known as a synapse with the end of the axon known as the presynaptic terminal; in this structure there are multiple synaptic vesicles (that average 50 nm in diameter) with various chemical signals (neurotransmitters) used for synaptic transmission (the process of information transfer). The membrane surrounding the synapse is heavily dense with proteins and ion channels, in order to receive and traffic the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Analysis Of Wild Nights-Wild Nights, By Emily Dickinson Have you ever longed to do something? Or what about longed to be with someone? In Emily Dickinson s poem, Wild Nights Wild Nights she writes about longing to be with a lover. The poem shows a longing to be with her lover once again. The first stanza is about her longing to be with the lover. The second stanza is the biggest shift and the climax, the speaker has reached her limit. The speaker is frustrated that they cannot be with the lover and is at breaking point. However, the third stanza relates back to the first by longing for the lover once again. Emily Dickinson s self reserved, recluse lifestyle was influential in Wild Nights Wild Nights , as she uses metaphor, imagery, and stanzas to show her passion in a restrictive religious culture. Dickinson uses metaphors in the poem Wild Nights Wild Nights. Metaphor, a direct comparison between two unlike things, is used to compare the heart of the speaker and the port of a coastal town. Dickinson writes that the lover s heart [is] in a port (5). The lover is not literally in a port but Dickinson uses the idea of being stuck in a port to show how frustrated the speaker is that they cannot be with her lover. At this point, in the poem, the speaker is feeling longing and frustration together create the breaking point and climax. This metaphor relates back to Dickinson s personal life, as a girl who felt restricted by the people around her, she often felt the longing the speaker expresses in Wild Nights Wild Nights . However, Dickinson grew up Calvinist and she attended religious services as a child. As an adult, she did not join the church and stopped going to services altogether. This is a huge influence in her poems because it showed how she was then separated from many different aspects of their society. Dickinson did not keep an active social life, it has been made of Dickinson s decision to restrict her visits with other people. She has been termed recluse and hermit. Both terms sensationalize a decision that has come to be seen as eminently practical (Emily Dickinson). Dickinson did not socialize with others and was often alone; In Wild Nights Wild Nights she expresses her feelings of wanting to be with someone else despite her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
